Stakeholder Analysis in EIA
Perhaps the most important activity for any Environmental
Impact Assessment study is to conduct an Environmental Impact
Assessment.
“Stakeholder analysis is the process of identifying the individuals
or groups that are likely to affect or be affected by a proposed
action, and sorting them according to their impact on the action
and the impact the action will have on them1
”.
This is used to assess how the interests of stakeholders may be
addressed. Such Mapping exercise may be done through a lot of
ways but the most commonly used is based on power to
influence and legitimacy of each stakeholder’s relationship with
the organization
The results of this exercise may answer the fundamental
question of "which groups deserve / require project’s attention,
and which do not?"
