TRENDS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
On the 11th of October, Mark Zuckerberg revealed his new wireless and affordable virtual reality headset, Occulus Go. His goal: to make this
technology more accessible.
Occulus Go will be available in early 2018 and will cost 199$ (168€). With this new headset, the user will be able to move in the real world
without any constraint because it doesn’t need to be connected to any other device. It also has internal cameras and sensors to track
movements that are reproduced in the virtual world.
This new Oculus should allow Facebook to make a breakthrough in the virtual reality market, currently dominated by Sony and its equipment
on the PS4 gaming console.

Now, we no longer need to lift a finger to get a pizza! The voice assistants developed by the Internet giants, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant,
allow consumers to order their pizza orally without using any smartphone or tablet. Indeed, the development of voice shopping apps is booming.
Today, they allow us to buy digital content like music tracks, to book a taxi, and even to do our shopping!
However, to use these services, the customer must pay a fee. "This is the main feature of voice shopping apps, which makes them different from free
voice services, which allow you to control connected objects, to have access to content such as weather or information, to check your emails, your
agenda... ", says Vincent Ducrey, co-founder and director of the Hub Institute.
Today, the largest vocal apps store remains Amazon’s one, which has more than 15 000 programs, called “skills”.

Google and crowdsourcing: what a long lasting relationship! Indeed, in 2016, Google spent $ 3 million to reward hackers who had identified
vulnerabilities in 13 applications from 8 publishers, including Alibaba, Dropbox, Duolingo, Headspace, Line, Mail.ru, Snapchat or Tinder. 350
people from 59 different countries were awarded.
Thanks to its collaboration with the Hacker One platform, Google has decided to extend its bug hunting program to a larger community: a bonus
of $ 1 000 will be offered to anyone who will be able to hack a security breach. The most popular apps on the Play Store will be concerned by
this operation.

After being rolled out in the US, Facebook Messenger’s financial micro-transactions will be rolled out in France and in the United Kingdom.
This feature allows users to send small amounts of money to each other on a national scale. To do so, they simply have to open a
conversation with the contact they want to send money to and press the payment icon.
Concerning the deadlines, each operation will be carried out in 1 to 3 working days. Concerning the safety, Facebook guarantees full
protection of the banking information.
International money transfers are already possible but for this, users have to use the bot of TransferWise, an international money transfer
company, available on Messenger since February.

Since Hurricane Maria devastated the North Atlantic area, 44% of the relay masts have not been fixed yet.
To solve this issue, in partnership with AT & T, T-Mobile and government agencies, Google has launched a project to allow people to have
access to the Internet again. Its name: the Loon project.
According to Google’s data, the web giant has managed to connect 100 000 people in Puerto Rico.
Initially, Loon balloons were designed to connect areas not covered at all by the relay masts.

This is the "Political Lamp": a cloud lamp reacting in real time to Donald Trump's tweets. Indeed, this connected lamp is able to react in real time to
messages posted on Twitter, creating a real lightning storm every time a tweet is posted. Each tweet is then materialized by series of lightnings,
rolling in the cloud and disturbing the soft light of the lamp.
This lamp has been set up to follow Donald Trump's tweets that perfectly embody a dangerous era, where the words of one man on a global social
network can put the fate of millions of people at risk.
It was made by ParseError, French artist based in Marseille.

Being able to look for a real estate property to buy or an apartment to rent only with emojis? This is now possible, thanks to the new app of
the real estate network Laforêt, developed with the agency Les Gros Mots.
An emoji "bathtub" combined with emoticons "bat" and "bus"? The app then understands that you are looking for an apartment with bath
and cellar, close to a bus line. Result: a more intuitive and fun search !

As everyone says: 2017 is the bitcoin year. Launched in February 2009, this cryptocurrency is a huge success and its price recently reached 7
000 dollars.
In less than a year, its price has raised by more than 600%. Bitcoin now represents up to 54% of the market capitalization of cryptocurrency,
which is $ 94 billion out of a total of $ 172 billion. Remember that in January, the price of virtual currency was just over $ 1000. And today, this
currency tends to leave the digital and virtual world.
Indeed, since April, Japan uses it as an official means of payment. Russia has also announced plans to launch its own bitcoin derivative,
CryptoRouble.
Maybe one day media buying will use its own cryptocurrency?

26. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT INSTAGRAM
After “duet” lives and superzoom, Instagram announced in an interview published in
"The Verge", a magazine specialized in tech news, that the stop-motion format was
in the test phase and that they were working on it.
This new feature will allow users to take several pictures and turn them into a GIF.
The user could then customize his GIF with stickers or text. Then, he could publish
his video or save it.
With the stop-motion, Instagram wants, just like Snapchat, to conquer the young
generation fond of such formats. According to a recent survey from ComScore,
46.8% of Snapchat’s subscribers have between 18 to 24 years old.
27. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT INSTAGRAM
A new feature is being tested in Instagram: the ability to cross-post an
Instagram story on Facebook via Facebook stories.
This would increase the potential of Instagram Stories but most of all
boost the use of Facebook stories, which didn’t meet the expected
success so far.
Only drawback for the brand pages: as they don’t have access to
Facebook stories format, the cross-post will not be possible for them ...
at least for now! Watch this space !
28. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT INSTAGRAM
It's been a while since we've heard anything more on Instagram's
shopping tags, their coming eCommerce addition which would enable
businesses to add information and price tags to products featured in their
posts.
The tags themselves are still in development, but more businesses will
soon have access to a version of the tool via an expanded integration with
Shopify.
The Shopify tags will enable users to make purchases from any Instagram
post, within the app, which is essentially the same process as Instagram's
Shopping Tags, though it will only be available to selected Shopify
merchants at this stage.
29. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT FACEBOOK
Facebook has announced an innovation in the fight against fake news. Its users will
now have access to additional information about articles posted on the social
network, allowing them to assess their relevance.
Link post related to articles will soon have a new "Information" button, located at the
bottom right of the link, where users will be able to click to access additional content
from Facebook and other sources: details regarding the source of information
retrieved from Wikipedia, articles on the same topic from other sources, information
on how users are sharing this article on the platform, where this article is the most
popular or who are the people who have shared this article.
When Facebook won’t have any detail about the source of an article, it will also warn
the user that no information is available at the moment.
30. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT FACEBOOK
Facebook is currently testing, on Android devices, a new paid formula linked to
the Instant Articles, that will allow its users to have access to the contents of
some newspapers.
This project is the result of a close collaboration between the social network
and a dozen publishers including Le Parisien. The paid subscription will be
divided into two models: Metered which will offer ten articles and Freemium in
which the publisher will choose the free contents.
Through this development, Facebook aims to win back the media which have
been disappointed by the low economic impact of Instant Articles, and to give
them the opportunity to reach a new audience.
Apple is not part of the project.
31. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT WHATSAPP
Thanks to a new update being deployed on WhatsApp, you can now delete a
message that is gone too fast or sent by mistake, and make it inaccessible
to everyone.
To be able to do this, having the latest version of the instant messaging
app is necessary.
To achieve this, it must be done within 7 minutes after sending the
message. Small problem: the original recipient of the message will be
notified that the message was deleted by its sender.
32. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT TWITTER
On Twitter, many users use the "Like" feature to save tweets and easily find them
again for later reading. This diversion of the "likes" feature may cause some
problems: the “likes” are public and everyone can see the tweets you liked.
Indeed, since the "Favorite" feature in Twitter (star) has become a "I like" (heart),
the action is no longer neutral: it can be considered like an appreciation.
That's why Twitter is developing a new feature, "Save for later," which will allow
users to bookmark tweets.
33. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT TWITTER
Twitter announces the deployment of a new video format: the Video
Website Card, which will be made of:
- an auto-play video
- a customizable title
- a website url.
Its goal: to combine the boost of video views and conversions with the
addition of the link on the video that will increase the possibility of
generating site visits and conversions.
This new format gives brands the opportunity to interact more with
consumers and keep their attention throughout the purchase journey. In
fact, on mobile, the video is displayed at the top of the screen and
continues to appear while the website is loading at the bottom of the
screen.
34. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT MICROSOFT
It was expected… it’s finally here! The integration of Cortana in Skype, announced more than
a year ago by Microsoft, has officially begun.
The Skype users in the United States are the firsts who will benefit from the virtual
assistant on the Android and iOS applications of the service.
Like Facebook with its M assistant on Messenger or Google with Allo, Cortana will be able to
appear under the most recent Skype message to offer a useful action, such as suggesting
quick answers, providing directions or listing nearby restaurants.
Cortana will also be represented in Skype through a contact with which it will be possible to
interact.
35. AND IN THE MEAN TIME AT APPLE
Apple has announced the launch of hundreds of new emojis for the next iOS
11 update on iPhone and iPad: a dinosaur, a gyoza, a broccoli, a pie, a scarf, a
curling accessory or even a hedgehog ... the list is quite long!
Some existing emojis will also be modified to make them more neutral for
genders or origins.
Many more clothes will be available, as well as emotions, or creatures such
as fairies or mermaids: just enough to spend even more time looking for
emojis to illustrate our messages or our publications.

A rather successful imitation of WhatsApp Messenger application has been
available on Google Play Store for a few days. This application, like any other
fake app, has generated many ads carrying dangerous codes and over a
million people have downloaded it on their phone.
“Update WhatsApp Messenger” had all of an original app: color, logo ... and
even the name of the developer WhatsApp Inc. that misled everyone.
Reported by Reddit users, this fake application has no messaging function
and is just a sharing tool for other smartphones software.
For the moment, it has been removed from the US Play Store, but still is
downloadable in France.

Three years after its last makeover, Apple has finally restyled its Mac mini.
Tim Cook has indeed announced that the cheapest machine of the firm was
being revisited to make it an important part of its next range of products.
Last April, Phil Schiller, vice president of the company in charge of
marketing, had talked about the future Mac Pro and had evoked the
evolution of the machine without keyboard, mouse or screen but with
remote control.
As the Mac pro, Mac mini will also be more muscular, with the latest
processors Kaby Lake Refresh and will offer the opportunity to be turned
into a hub.

In November, L'Oréal will launch its startup boost program at the Parisian
Station F campus.
The number one manufacturer of consumer products will host 10 to 12
startups per year, for 6 to 12 months, with a capacity of 62 workstations.
A team of 3 to 4 people was also created to support these project leaders
from around the globe, recruited thanks to an international call for
projects launched on October 20th on their website.
This acceleration program represents a complementary approach to the
digital initiatives brought by the L'Oréal group since 2010.

October witnessed one of the biggest debates in the history of emojis: where to
place cheese in an hamburger emoji?
On his emoticons, Google places it at the bottom, unlike Apple, Microsoft or
Samsung. According to the website emojipedia.org, which lists all the emojis on
the market, the hamburger designed by Google is the only one to place the cheese
under the meat. All other emojis of high tech giants like Facebook or Apple are
opting for a more orthodox presentation with the minced steak under the cheese.
The controversy was such on Twitter that Sundar Pichai himself promised to
urgently address this crucial topic.
And you, are you more of the “cheese below” team or the “cheese under” team?
