Why NEK606?
From 1972 to 1988 a huge variety of cable types were specified by
different oil companies / operaters.
E.g. DNK manufactured over 40 different single pair cables due to different core colours, sheath marking
etc.
In 1988 a commitee was established in Norway to standardise the
variety of offshore topside cables in North Sea area.
All major oil companies plus cable manufacturers participated in
this work
After one year’s teamwork the first draft was issued. This
standardisation resulted in increased availability and cost
effectiveness
NEK 606 puts the necessary IEC standards into a single system for
the specification of high preformance offshore topside cables.
Including minimum test requirements for harsh environments.
