How can I do business with Iran the safest way today?
What if I have American customers or interests? Would I get
a fine? Or would I have my business raided? What can I
realistically sell in Iran and to whom?
These are recurring questions any business would want
to ponder/get clarity on before engaging in business
relationships with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The presentation will present a pragmatic approach to the
sanctions and present latest development.

With a 78 million people population and a GDP per capita
of US$17,600 Iran is a very unique frontier market. For the
last 36 years, Iran has been operated outside of western

This part of the workshop will provide an overview of the
different potential models one can choose from while
attempting to enter the country.

With 153 billion of proven oil reserves and 34 trillion cubic

lowest production costs in the world, Iran is poised to
become an energy super power over the next 25 years.

2025.

Marianne Abib-Pech, Co-Founder
Principal, Eastern Intelligence
Marianne started her career in Arthur
Andersen as an Auditor, before joining
Motorola Corporate Audit division.
After her auditing years, she held several positions
within General Electric Europe- in financial planning
and commercial finance to finally become the global
CFO of Shell Aviation a $20B turnover operating in 80
countries, where she specifically worked on strategy
formulation and delivery through a series of de/
investment in Russia, Brazil, Turkey.
Her last corporate position was as of Head of Finance
and Commercial for BHP-Billiton Iron Ore Business with
the specific mandate to deploy $600MM of capital in
West Africa (Sierra Leone and Guinea)
Marianne has an extensive audit and financial
planning experiences, complemented with strategic
formulation and corporate finance activities.
She holds several advising positions with European
and Asian families.
She is also the author or the Financial Times Guide to
Leadership and an active angel investor.
Thibault Normand, Co-Founder
Principal, Eastern Intelligence
Thibault has extensive experience in
energy matters with a specific focus on
risk management and energy security
advisory services for governments.
Former advisor to the Prime Minister of Latvia on
strategic planning and energy security, Thibault
now concentrates his focus on developing market
penetration strategies for Eastern Intelligence’s clients.
Thibault has spent his personal and professional life
in over 30 different countries across all continents. He
uses his dense multi-cultural understanding to bridge
people and focus their competences on international
ventures. He is also the Chairman of the French
Chamber of Commerce in Latvia.
Nigel Kushner, Chief Executive, W Legal
Following his formative years at Clyde
Co, a leading City based international
law firm, Nigel spent 8 years as sole
in house lawyer at one of the world’s
largest privately owned steel traders and latterly
at Triland Metals, an LME ring dealer owned by
Mitsubishi Corporation. With an equal mix of litigious
and non-litigious work, Nigel specialises in shipping,
international trade and sanctions, topics he regularly
lectures on. Nigel’s clients include some of the major
ship owners, commodity producers, trading houses
and international exporters.
Acting as part time general counsel for many clients,
Nigel provides hands-on, practical advice in a down
to earth manner.
Nigel regularly advises clients worldwide in relation to
their dealings with Iran and helps them navigate the
complex labyrinth of sanctions in order to ensure that
such business is conducted in a legitimate manner
and exposures are mitigated. Nigel is also a director of
the British-Iranian Chamber of Commerce.
Claire Smith, Partner, Lead the Future
Claire Smith was a UK diplomat for 27
years. During her career, she worked
extensively on regional and international
security and foreign policy issues,
including as member of the UK’s Joint Intelligence
Committee, with her area of focus on the Middle East.
She is now a partner at LeadtheFuture an innovative
leadership lab, and lectures on postgraduate
international relations programmes.
Claire is currently completing an Executive MSc at
Said Business School Oxford.

Kambiz Homayounfar, CEO,

Mr. Kambiz Homayounfar serves as the
Chief Executive Officer and President at
Genista Corporation. Mr. Homayounfar
was formerly the President and
Chief Executive Officer at Algorex Inc., a
communications software company that he founded
in October 1996 and sold to National Semiconductor
in December 1999. He has worked at Asahi Chemical
as a Technology Investment Analyst and at TCSI
(Berkeley, CA) as Director of Worldwide Marketing.
Kambiz studied electrical engineering at University of
Wales and at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a
focus on Digital Signal Processing.
Kambiz is also involved in the organisation of the
Europe-Iran Forum and is an Associate at Solbacken
Associates with a proven track record of helping
international companies develop into Iran.
David Gigauri, Partner,
Gryphon Emerging Markets
David is involved in origination and
execution of cross border transactions
for companies and their shareholders
with a specific focus on CIS states and Georgia.
Additionally, he advises and assists clients from
the Emerging Markets on inbound investments in
the United Kingdom. David Gigauri has 10 years
of experience of working with entrepreneurs and
organisations in the Emerging Markets of Eastern
Europe.
Prior to joining Gryphon in 2009, he worked for the
Consumer, Healthcare Retail (CHR) investment
banking team at JP Morgan in London, and
Communications Public Affairs Department at TNK-
BP Oil Company in Moscow. He has also worked on
several Real Estate projects in New-York, London and
Moscow.
David also independently advises on asset
management, brokering and private equity in Iran.
David holds a BA in Business and Economics from
University College London (UCL) and an MSc (with
merit) from the London School of Economics (LSE). In
addition to English he speaks Russian and Georgian.
