- Hi all Welcome to the start of something special Purley in Bloom I’m Simon Cripps CEO of Purley Business Improvement District (BID) Life long local resident to Purley ever since England were still holding a major Football trophies. Hopefully you are here because you would like to make a Positive difference to Purley This meeting is about setting up Purley in Bloom, what it is and why are we trying to achieve this. Even though I represent the Purley BID, does not make this a Purley BID project, This is a project for all, young old, groups individuals, and of all different tallents. The BID is here as a fuse to ignite this project, it is also here to provide some support and also as a means to enter the “in Bloom” Competitions which we shall discuss in a bit.
- Purpose of this meeting is to establish the steering group to deliver this project. Why are the BID involved at this stage, we are supporting #DestinationPurley to make the district centre the preferred local destination. The benefits that you achieve with an “inBloom” town are shared with many of the goals the BID and destinationPurley. In Bloom is perfect vehicle to deliver many of our goals and as you will see that by its nature Purley in Bloom will be a cross community project and hopefully will be community led. This meeting will demonstrate why we need inbloom and create the first steps to achieving our goals
- London In Bloom has been around for 53 years and is a conduit to 1.5m hrs voluntary work It is as much community focused as it is on the horticultural aspect, there are also Britain in bloom and Europe in Bloom Peter Holman Horticultural Consultant, Chairman South & South East in Bloom, Co Chairman London in Bloom so many letter after his name related to horticulture t would be great starting hand in scrabble. Been guiding us on what in bloom is about and managing expectations.
- Having in Bloom as a goal for Purley will deliver 3 key benefits whether we win or not, we will at least make improvements If we aim for wining a medal in London in bloom we will improve the look of the area, the environment and build community. The points are split almost evenly across these 3 areas. So having these as our driving goals for all we do will only bring benefit to the area.
- Those benefits include
- So we currently propose the goals for Purley in Bloom to be ;;; These goals need to be confirmed by the steering group, we are here to create
- The vision currently is ;;;; Again to be ratified by the steering group The steering group needs to be positive motivated people to provide guidance, support and direction the teams delivering the projects. There are numerous roles for all different skill sets and whether 1 role is shared between 2 or more or that 2 or more roles and managed by 1 person we will need to provide structure to see Purley in Bloom
- This is the current org structure for in Bloom, we have several of these spaces already pencilled in. But have this meeting to show what we are looking for, what is required in the role please get in touch if you are interested in any. - Key role to delivering the work is the Friends of groups. A coordinator then any number of people or groups in a Friends of group to focus on that area. To focus on only a few at a time and then to grow over the next few years to encompass Purley District Centre and possibly beyond
- For those interested Lets start with next meeting Last Monday of the month 6:30pm If you are interested in a role or would like to discuss due to commitment levels or perceived skill inbloom@inPurley.London, join the facebook group Next meeting to confirm the goals and visions, and build the plan to delivering success for Purley in Bloom Then also build on engagement with the key partners such as TFL, GLA, CC tesco, community groups and more Looking at funding opportunities and the skills and resources currently at our disposal, what we need to deliver the plan and how to fill the gap. Do you know people or groups who would be perfect for this, whether to do a bit of weeding, to be a friend of champion, to be on the steering group or to take on the Chair of Purley in Bloom and run the whole show please get in touch.
