Y Secuelas Del Gran Quemado
Tratamiento y secuelas del Gran Quemado.
IntroducciГіn:
AdemГЎs estos
pacientes suelen tener una gran carga de analgesia debido a el dolor que provocan estas heridas,
pese a que las quemaduras de tercer grado estГЎ demostrado que no poseen sensibilidad estas

Palmata Case Study
A study by Ritchie, 2006 illustrated how a temperature increase initiates a temporal shift within
A.palmata mucus isolates, from beneficial bacteria to dominance by members of the genus Vibrio,
suggesting that protective mechanisms employed by this species are lost under warmer
conditions. Increased temperatures lowering coral resistance, thus, increasing disease
susceptibility is well documented (Bruno, 2007; Muller et al, 2008), as is the rise in ocean heat
content (Figure 3). Figure 3: Time series showing seasonal and annual average of global upper
ocean heat content for the 0 700m layer since 1955 (National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration) A suggested source of the WBD pathogen is African dust of which hundreds of

Both species affected emphasise asexual fragmentation at the expense of dispersive sexual
reproduction therefore, recovery is further strained due to the reproductive strategies (Aronson
Precht, 2001). In addition to this, two pesticides commonly incorporated into African dust have
been found to interfere with the settlement of coral larvae (Virginia et al, 2003). Management
Strategies Responsive management plans are limited due to a lack of effectual diagnosis
methods. Protective statuses such as being listed on the IUCN can act as a buffer following
outbreaks, and it has been shown the decreased damage from human impacts via the designation
of Marine Protected Areas (MPA s) lowers disease prevalence in corals (Lamb et al, 2015; Groner
et al, 2015), yet despite this, implementing effective preventative and conservation methods remains
a cause for concern. Trial studies have shown antibiotic treatments to be successful in supressing
transmission of WBD, specifically with the use of Ampicillin and Tetracycline, although the latter
being less efficient (Kline, 2011) and Paromomycin has been shown to arrest the disease
completely (Sweet et al, 2014). Genetic research has shown that gene flow is regionally restricted
in both Acropora species; Hemond and Vollmer, 2010, identified mitochondrial DNA sequence data
unique within A. cervicornis of the Florida Keys suggesting colonies within this area are highly

Affecting Emotions in the Workplace and Long Term...
Affecting Emotions in the Workplace and Long Term Consequences Employees, particularly in
service industries, find themselves increasingly called upon to display positive emotions in the
workplace. Ashford and Humphrey (1993) define the act of displaying an emotion according to a
display rule as emotional labor (p. 90). According to Grandey (2003), research has shown that
positive affective displays, or expressing positive emotions, in service interactions, such as smiling
and conveying friendliness, are positively associated with important customer outcomes, such as
intention to return, intention to recommend a store to others, and perception of overall service
quality. Types of emotional displays include surface acting (modifying facial... Show more content

Socialization as part of the onboarding process and throughout an employee s career provides
examples and constant reminders of the affective displays that are desirable for the organization.
Finally, rewards and punishments provide the reinforcement needed to continually modify positive
and negative displays. Negative Long Term Effects According to Ang Chooi Hwa (2012)
emotional labor had both beneficial effects for the organization and negative effects on the
employee (p. 115). Montgomery et al. (2006) assert that emotionally demanding interactions can
mean less energy available for leisure and family involvement (p. 204). Additionally, Pines and
Aronson (as cited in Montgomery et al., 2006) affirm that emotionally demanding work situations
over long periods of time can lead to burnout, a state of exhaustion (p. 204). Burnout, as an overall
negative state, can be responsible for poor health and negative mental states. Hoschild (as cited in
Grandey, 2000) agrees that emotional labor is stressful and may result in burnout. However,
Grandey (2000) differentiates between surface acting and deep acting to determine that emotional
labor can have both positive and negative long term effects for the employee (p. 97 101). The
author further asserts that since surface acting is often equivalent to faking that it is the more
detrimental of the two, resulting in stressful experiences for the employee. This makes sense, since
it logical to assume that forcing oneself to

Impact Of Slavery On African American Literature
Voices of Freedom: Slavery s impact on African American Literature In the early to mid nineteenth
century, America found itself divided over the issue of slavery. The culture, traditions, and economy
of southern states depended heavily on slave labor, while the northern states opposed the institution
of slavery. Even though the slave trade was declared illegal in the early nineteenth century, slavery
itself was not illegalized until more than a half century later. Abolitionists used powerful anti
slavery writings as a way to fight against slavery. During this time, African Americanliterature
emerged with a distinct focus on black culture within the larger American society. These authors
and their writings preserved the culture of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This uncompromising narrative documents the horrors faced by female slaves, particularly sexual
abuse and the heartache felt by slave mothers whose children were taken from them. Often slave
narratives were deemed fictional by the white American public. These autobiographies were
constantly under scrutiny for their veracity, even though many narratives were published with
endorsements from famous abolitionists confirming the story s authenticity. Some slave narratives
were penned by authors referring to themselves as Himself or Herself. Jacobs was forced to write
under the pseudonym Linda Brent to publish her own narrative. Jacob s autobiography showed how
female slaves struggled with sexual harassment and their efforts to protect their identities as women
and mothers. With a mounting national debate over slavery, these ever growing narratives provided
a unique manuscript documenting glimpses into the inner thoughts of slaves. Another African
American writer whose literature was influenced by slavery was Phillis Wheatley. She was
kidnapped from Africa at the age of eight and brought to America on a slave ship. John Wheatley,
a prominent figure in Boston, purchased the young child and made her a servant for his wife.
Wheatley s owners soon recognized her intelligence and extraordinary literary talent and afforded
her an education. Wheatley s life was an exception

African American Stereotypes In Literature
Minorities are some of the most targeted and mistreated people in the world because of a
misconceptions we are given. Many people already have this image or idea of a person before
getting to know them because of what they have heard or read. Cultural representation of people
and how they are portray in literature affect how people are viewed and treated.
Some common stereotypes are that Asians are very intelligent people. For Latinos, many people
believe that they are gang affiliated and not very intelligent. As for African Americans, some
common ones include that they all are very similar in appearance or that they are all on welfare or
that they have big lips. Many believe that white people are rich and privileged. We hear these
stereotypes as well as others all the time that many ignorant people believe it and treat ... Show

Going back to the Freedom Writers book, many of the student had a hostile attitude towards
their teacher because she was white and they don t feel like she is up to the task because they
feel like she is too delicate and doesn t really know how rough their life is. One of her student
even thought that she was rich because culturally white people are represented more highly as
opposed to minorities. Many people have less trust in African Americans and Latinos because they
are associated with drugs and violence. In Ferguson Brown was shot by a police officer because
he believed brown was armed, this mistrust caused brown s death and an up roaring.
Historically literature undermines the minorities. African Americans went from being slave to
separate but equal to equal though there is still some racism. In literature minorities are sometimes
portrayed as bad people. Even in television, the heroes are mostly white people. In the future there
could be more diversity since more ethnic groups are being added. Take Princesses for example,

Nonetheless, the Allies did consistently gain ground on the Axis forces. On May 7, the Allies took

ruler, Benito Mussolini, was overthrown by a peaceful coup, and Italian officials promptly began
approaching the Allies about an armistice. Prior to Mussolini s ouster, U.S. and British forces had

A Brief Note On North American Aerospace Defense Command...
A. Introduction
NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) is always prepared to intercept hijacked
airplanes with fighter jets, and are able to debilitate them or shoot them down Fact or fiction? This
is a fact; however, on the day of September 11, 2001, four commercial airplanes were hijacked with
the intent to crash into the world trade center, the pentagon, and possibly the white house. Three of
these planes were successful on this mission and there is substantial evidence that NORAD knew
about these hijackings, at least after the first one hit the World Trade Center. NORAD generals said
they learned of the hijackings in time to scramble fighter jets. (NewsOne) Why did they instead
choose to stand down? Obviously, NORAD was commanded by a higher authority to abstain from
thwarting these men s attempts. This must be because the corrupt government of the United States
either knew these attacks were going to take place, or they allowed them to happen to benefit from
the after effects. The government may not have been completely behind the 9/11 attacks, but they
most certainly had some part in it and had the capability to prevent them; therefore, we must
consider the theories we could possibly believe, and those that we dismiss outright through analysis
and contemplative thought.

Finandal statements issued by lodging properties contain a considerable amount of information. A

Best distinguished by his cautionary novels on the rise of communism, George Orwell was
frequently influenced by his up bringing, careers, and experiences fighting fascism. Born Eric

to St. Cyprian s, one of the best preparatory schools in England, although he often showed loathing
towards the strict policies and teachers at the school. However, in later years of school his
academic interest slipped and with it his grades. With little options George Orwelljoined the Indian
imperial police and was sent to Burma. His time in Burma had a profound affect on

Performance Based Compensation Strategy
Compared to the other competitors Nucor provided employees with a performance related
compensation system. All employees were covered under one of four basic compensation plans,
each featuring incentives related to meeting specific goals and targets. 1. Production Incentive Plan.
Employees those directly involved in manufacturing were paid weekly bonuses based on actual
output in relation to anticipated production tonnages produced. The bonuses were paid only for
work that met quality standards and were pegged to work groups, rather than individual output.
Bonuses were tied to attendance and tardiness standards. If one worker s tardiness or attendance
problems caused the group to miss its weekly output target, every member of the group was denied
a bonus for that week. If they are late, even only five minutes, they lose their bonus for the day. If
they are thirty minutes late or they are absent for sickness or anything else, they lose their bonus for

The Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings Why Did William Win?
On the 14th of October 1066, Duke William of Normandy defeated King Harold at the Battle of
Hastings. His win could be summed up by the fact that William was a better leader. Other factors
that contributed to William s victory include: William was better prepared, the English army was
severely weakened as Harold had just fought off an invasion in the North of England, and Harold
made a fatal mistake of prematurely entering the Battle of Hastings.
William was a better leader because although Harold had the upper hand in the battle and they were
losing, William managed to outwit and defeat the English. In the Bayeux Tapestrythere is a scene
depicting that in the days preceding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he was victorious in both of them, his troops were exhausted and did not have
sufficient energy to perform at their best. At the beginning of the battle, he managed get a good
advantage he positioned his troops on top of a hill, making it difficult for William to get to his
army and attack him. However, towards the end of the battle, William set a trap to draw Harold
from his strong position and he fell for it. Once they were on even ground, Harold s exhausted
troops could not counter the attacks from William s well trained and nourished army.
The biggest mistake Harold made was entering the Battle of Hastings too early. Harold lost some
of his best fighters at the Battle of Stamford Bridge earlier that day and the rest of his army were
tired out from their previous battle. When they finally arrived in the South, he was
overconfident that he could win this battle because of his recent victories. Because of his
misjudgement, he decided to rush into battle with exhausted and unprepared troops. Towards the
end of the battle, he fell for the trap that William had set, seeing as he was tired and his troops
couldn t wait to finish them off and get a good rest. If he had given his army only a few days rest
and fed them like William had to his troops, his chances of winning the battle would have been a lot
higher.

The New Command That Christ Gave The 11 Remaining...
This morning, we considered the new command that Christ gave the 11 remaining disciples.
But they can t focus on that.
They are bewildered because Christ is going away.
They are confused and Peter speaks up perhaps for the whole group...
And this is where we come to our text this evening:
John 13:36 38
36 Simon Peter said to Him, Lord, where are You going?
Jesus answered him, Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me
afterward.
37 Peter said to Him, Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake.
38 Jesus answered him, Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the
rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times.
It s almost as if Peter didn t hear the NEW command.
But can we blame him?
His Beloved Master has just said, I am going away and you can t come.
I m going and you re staying.
Peter s mind is occupied; and He missed the command to love one another.
Peter, probably similar to the Jews in chapter 7 and 8 who said where is He going that we can t find
Him? Will He go among the dispersion?
Peter was probably thinking geographically Why can t I follow you?
The other disciples seem to have missed it too they are just slower to respond.
Thomas in ch. 14 will say, Lord, where are you going and how can we know the way?
Jesus takes up the distraction and speaks with His little children tenderly.
But He will come back to the vital command to love a few chapters later in

On Wenlock Edge Poem Analysis
Evaluate the use of melody, rhythm and texture in creating an effective setting of the poems by A.E
Housman in On Wenlock Edge by Vaughan Williams.
On Wenlock Edge is a song cycle of six pieces by Vaughan Williams, set to words from A.E
Housman s collection of poems A Shropshire lad . Having studied musicwith the likes of Ravel,
Williams was very aware of the impressionist movement (particularly in France) that was in full
swing at the beginning of the 20th century he also spent much of his life travelling around England,
collection folk songs (particularly those of the Tudor period). These influences are distinctly heard
in On Wenlock Edge . Put simply, the poems that make up A Shropshire Lad depict country life,

The melodies in these pieces also have been used to attain a sense of immersion in the English
countryside, a place where Williams folk songs would have been found. The recitative style
melodic line at the beginning of Is My Team Ploughing? contributes to this feeling as it was
written in D Dorian mode, a particular scale that is very recognisable from it s use in traditional
folk songs. A famous example of this is Greensleves, a traditional Elizabethan folk song written in
Dorian mode, which, like in Williams song, has a very distinctive feel to it.
In the poem that On Wenlock Edge is set to, Housman presents a landscape that is under torment in
a heavy storm, with strong winds. With resources that are not suited to create such an effect (a
string quartet, piano and voice), Williams relies on other composition methods to set the text
truthfully. At the beginning, the strings and piano play triplets and sextuplets, with the strings
using tremolo. The rhythms are often used to present a constant movement, or fluidity in the music,
as is used to represent the wind, with the tremolo adding a slightly frantic, unpredictability to it. At
the time that the pieces were written, programme music had recently become a popular style of
composing, particularly shown by BedЕ™ich Smetana, whose work Ma Vlast was published in
1872. The piece Vltava from this describes the journey of the river

John Pepper Clark s is in block form. However, they also share a variety of qualities in common,
such as nature imagery and belief in incarnation. One similarity between Soyinka s and Clark s

For example, it is said that the Abiku will come again when the snail is burnt in his shell,/Whet

the Abiku is returning when the ground is wet with mourning/White dew suckles flesh birds

is the format, as one is written in block form and the other is in stanzas. First, the piece by
Soyinka contains stanzas, which are used to group specific ideas and themes together, as well as
indicate a shift into a new idea. However, the primary use of this format in Abiku is to demonstrate
the many lives of the Abiku as it continues to torment its mother. This also adds to the belief in
incarnation of the African people. Conversely, Clark use block style poetryin order to demonstrate
the circular manner of the Abiku s numerous reincarnations. There is no separation between the
lines, showing that the Abiku keeps on returning with very little break in between. It is interesting
to read two pieces of literature on the same topic, but written in different manners to get a new
perspective. For example, Clark s focuses on the circular manner of the reincarnation, while
Soyinka s stanzas demonstrated the many lives of the child. While there are

How Accurate Was the Term Era of Good Feelings in the...
In the 1800 s following the war of 1812, the term commonly applied to that era in the United States
was known as the era of good feelings . While the United States was growing in several different
aspects, such as politically, socially and economically, and changing as a country, there are several
key factors that denote this term, and nullify its meaning. While the changes were significant, and
the United Statesevolved at an exponential rate after the war of 1812, the accuracy of the term era
of good feelings is way off, and the United States was anything but experiencing an era of good
feelings .
Following the war of 1812, growth occurred primarily economically, politically, and socially for the
United States. These changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this was increase throughout the United States, this economical situation occurred
primarily in the North, and much less in the south. In the south, the economic increase was much
different. Because of the large amounts of plantations and farms in the south, new land was needed
so that the crops that had dried up the soil could continue to grow and the economy can continue to
benefit. This growth in land and economy indicates that the economic benefit in the south came
from crops and agricultural might, rather than industrial. These differences help identify that the era
of good feelings and the nationalism that is implied is incorrect and inaccurate, as people have
more of a connection towards the land that they make their money on, which implies sectionalism.
Politically, the era of good feelings was extremely off. Even before the war of 1812, there had
always been a major difference in the political parties and systems of the government. A major
difference in this coming from extremely opposing ideologies of the parties and the lack of unity
between the two. The difference between the parties is also present in Document C, which shows
two different party tents during the fourth of july. Whilst the people are generally happy, the party
tents show that the difference is quite evident, and

Gender Roles Of Women Before World War II
Before World War II, women were typically seen as wives and mothers. A majority of jobs were
saved for men and it was very uncommon for a woman to have a job that was outside of the
house, especially if they were married. The need to prepare for war was so strong that political
and social leaders agreed that both women and men have to change their perceptions of genderroles
at least as long as there was a national emergency ( Changing Images 1). America s view on the
womanwas about to entirely change. Women were about to change the typical stereotype and prove
to men that they could do anything they could.
With men getting drafted into the war, there was a huge need to fill their jobs. Women began to

Essay on Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone
Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone
Wolves have always been a symbol of the wild, free in spirit and roamers of the land. These
animals are considered majestic and protectors of the wilderness. They have always roamed the
western United States, although their population has fluctuated over time. Over the past 10 years
wolf reintroduction into YellowstoneNational Park has been a controversial topic to those of the
United States. As of 1995, wolves have been reintroduced into the park. This has come with some
strong opposition and yet has prevailed. The future of the wolf in Yellowstone park is now looking
bright, although not certain since there still are those who want them banished again.

Created in 1872 by the department of the Interior, the park was developed by congress for
preservation of its natural curiosities or wonders and prohibiting wanton destruction of its fish and
game (defenders). Wolves were protected in Yellowstone.
Wolves lived in the park for forty years, with claimed increasing nuisance to outsiders. The
people around Yellowstone were complaining that the wolves, basically a nuisance to society,
were killing animal. Thus after discussions and studies, congress agreed and the wolf
extermination began. In 1914, the Yellowstone wolf extirpation campaign began after congress
appropriated funds for destroying wolves, prairie dogs, and other animals injurious to
agriculture and animal husbandry on public lands (defenders). The killing of wolves continued
until 1926 when the last two wolf pups of some 136 wolves were killed on a poisoned bison
carcass (defenders). The eradication of wolves by hunting and other means soon cleared out most
wolves in all areas of the United States. By the 1940 s humans had eliminated red and gray wolves
from almost all of their historic range in the contiguous 48 states (Noecker).

The Dangers Of The Holocaust
When learning about the Holocaust in school some teachers play videos or show pictures of the
carnage of a concentration camp, all the student really sees are either walking skeletons or dead
skeletons. Some soldiers say they can never forget the smell when they first walked into a camp,
and thousands of people visit the remaining camps and feel as if they are walking through a
cemetery, which they are really. It has been sixty years since the Holocaustended, and over six
million Jewish people died in some of the worst possible ways. There are very few survivors left
today, and even after the camps were liberated the survivors were not treated humanely when they
finally got to return home. After all they went through they should have had more support to help
them after their ordeal, but to this day there are still people that deny that the Holocaust ever
happened. Something as terrifying as the Holocaust should not be questioned because someone
does not believe mankind is that cruel, that they just think survivors were mentally unstable and
wanted to get publicity, and mainly the reason is that they are anti Semitic. A person may not want
to believe that mankind is that cruel, but they have to know that it happened because something
that awful must be known to prevent it from happening again. Deborah Lipstadts podcast, How Do

Methods Of Observation A Surface Measurements
II. Methods of observation
A. Surface Measurements
Rain gauge observations dating back to 1986 have been used to estimate precipitation rates. Figure
1 shows the distribution of rain gauges around the globe. Precipitation is measured in terms of the
total depth of a flat surface area, assuming no water vapor is lost by melting or evaporation.
Precipitation depth is measured in inches in the United States and in millimeters for research
purposes and most other countries. Frozen precipitation is melted and added to the total amount of
rainfall (i.e. liquid water equivalent). Precipitation measurements may utilize either touched
(mechanical gauges) instruments, such as standard rain gauges and tipping buckets, or untouched
instruments (remote sensing gauges). Untouched measurements may use disdrometer or remote
sensing by radar.
A standard rain gauge consists of four components: a large outer container, a measuring tube, a
collector funnel, and a measuring stick. Disdrometers measure the drop size distribution and the
resulting velocity of falling hydrometeors, which in combination can be used to estimate the
precipitation rate. The size distribution can be used to measure radar reflectivity.
Surface measurements may contain several errors due to potential losses of evaporation/runoff and
the melting of frozen precipitation. Surface contamination may occur as wind, soil, and vegetation
must be accounted for. Other factors may include the diameter or height of the gauge

The Importance Of Soccer
Soccer is a popular sport all over the world and it is most popular in places like Europe and Spain.
The objective of soccer is to score goals by passing the ball down the field into the opposing team s
goal. The objective is to score more goals than your opponent. Soccer is popular all over the
world, but why isn t it popular here in the U.S?
Sports like basketball, Football, Baseball, and Tennis are all popular here in the U.S, yet, soccer
doesn t get as much attention. The U.S international team has qualified for the biggest
international tournament, The World Cup, for 32 years in a row. They never won the World cup,
but they have been performing really well over the years. If soccer was more popular here in the
U.S, they would have more people wanting to play the sport, causing them to improve massively as
a team.
A major reason soccer isn t popular here is because the U.S only has 1 league to play in. For
example, all major countries have over 2 4 leagues so that more teams can play to reach for the top.
The U.S has a league called Major League Soccer, also known as the MLS. Firstly, the MLS only
has 22 teams in its league, that is more than most popular leagues in Europe and Spain! More teams
mean more excitement and fans right? Well not necessarily, The MLS might have more teams than
any other league in Europe, but it is very boring to watch.
You might ask, why would it be boring if there s more teams? It is boring since there is only 1
league, meaning there is

The Pros And Cons Of Plagiarism
In a world surrounded by phones, computers, and other technological devices, information is
always just a click away. School work has become more clicking and typing, and less reading
and writing. When kids get an assignment to read a book and do a book report on it, laziness
kicks in, and they go to the internet to look up a summary. Then what they do is copy and paste
other people s writings into their paper. What a majority of kids do not know is that this is
considered plagiarismand it is illegal. Plagiarism is something that is very common in today s world
and although it is common and a great deal of people do it, it is still illegal and wrong
Plagiarism, defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary is to commit literary theft or to present
as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source . What this means in
simpler words is that plagiarism stealing someone else s words or ideas and using them as if they
were your own. It is considered plagiarism even if you forget to put quotation marks around the
information you are using. While reading the article ВЁWhat is Plagiarism?ВЁ the reader learns
that although it may not seem like a big deal to copy what someone else said online or in a book, it
is actually breaking the U.S. law. For example, if a music composer wanted to write a new piece of
music they would research and spend time trying to think about what their piece is going to consist

Franklin s life was full of wisdom and science, as he was a well known writer, inventor, printer, as
well as, a founding fatherof the United States. I had the opportunity to sit down and converse with

this time it was not uncommon to scare people into doing something. Next, he told me why the

English class I have taken that focused on the style of writing I will need to be familiar in the
future with. Because of that fact, I defiantly enjoyed this class. I feel like my knowledge and ability
to navigate the writingtechniques of my major have improved and my in text citations skills have
improved greatly. Overall this course opened my eyes to the many different styles there are in the
field of Communications, which is my intended field of study, and how to use these styles
correctly and efficiently. I learned an array of new things with every paperand project we

the works of Sören Kierkegaard (1813 1855): the existentialist savant, theologist, religious writer

captivated by the philosophy embraced by this philosophical independent, in particular, to utilize

How Does Earthquake Affect The Earthquake
Task Two: Earthquakes and Buildings
The type of buildings that were the most damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
In the 6.3 magnitude Christchurch earthquake that occurred at 12.51pm on the 22nd of February
2011, the types of buildings that were the most damaged were houses and commercial buildings
that were built in the 19th and early 20th century. The majority of these buildings that were
damaged were ones that relied on single or double brick for their structure. This relates to how the
bricks are placed on the house and whether there are two layers or one layer of brick. Buildings
made of bricks and stones were damaged because they can t move with the earth and most of the
bricks crack and fall off making the structure a lot less stable and more likely to collapse in an
aftershock.
Brick chimneys on the old wooden houses fell over and crashed through the roofs and caused a
lot of damage. Stone buildings such as the Old Stone House were also badly damaged and had to
be closed following the February 2011 earthquake. The most structural damage mainly occurred in
houses that were made of heavy materials such as stones, bricks or concrete. This is because it is
harder for these building materials to withstand strong shaking and to support their own weight
when they begin to lose shape. They can t bounce back as easy once they have been forced in the
other direction. This forces the buildings to fall outwards or collapse.
A lot of damage occurred in houses and

The Role Of Identity In S. Morgenstern s The Princess Bride
What if? A question that many people find themselves asking. What if someone read Lord of The
Rings instead of Harry Potter? Would they be attempting to learn Elvish instead of learning magic
spells? In life, there are choices that have to be made. One or the other. The same applies to
literature. For example, The Princess Bride, by S. Morgenstern. Readers of this novel may begin
to ask themselves this very question. What if Westley did not reveal his identity to Buttercup
when he fell down the ravine? How would this affect the remainder of the story? There are so
many different ways that the story could have gone if the author had changed when Westley
revealed his true identity. There are so many times and places where it would be logical for him to
uncover his disguise, but it is up to the imagination to decide on the best way. S. Morgenstern in his
work, The Princess Bride, demonstrates the ability to change by allowing the reader to modify
his story with their own creative thoughts. In order to have several different outcomes to the
story, someone must first take out the original written portion where Westley reveals his identity
to Buttercup. After someone mentally erases everything that happened after Westley fell down
the ravine, they can now think of all of the different possible outcomes. In the text, it states,
Words followed her. Whispered from far, weak and warm and familiar. As... you... wish...(185).
This is the original point in which he shows her his true identity. Now, what if he had fallen
down the steep hill and said nothing? Based on Buttercup s instinct for survival and her
powerful characteristics, one could assume that as soon as her attacker was no longer able to
harm her, she would try her best to find her way back to safety. She made no effort to not
consistently explain to all four of her assailants that her Prince would find and save her no matter
how long it took, and knowing this, one would assume that she would wait for her Prince as long
as she needed to. However, the main plot of the story revolves around murder and suicide, so
Buttercup would either die from suicide, or be murdered by Prince Humperdinckon their wedding
night depending on what horrible

certainly seem Platonic especially as this idea of wholeness is presented in a speech in the
Symposium, and it is of intrigue as to why it never became a part of the soul Platoset out to define.
Perhaps it was too much for him to interfere with the parallel between the city and the soul that
he describes earlier in this work and their reliance on three parts. Or, as Cooper asks, was Plato
meaning to leave a discussion on the eros under the surface of his work in the Republic? (pgs.

example of that is David H. McNeill. He argues that human eros cannot involve the desires of
something other worldly, at least in the Republic which he contrasts with the Phaedrus. Of the two
works, art is something approached very differently and is a part of a philosophical orientation that
Plato is assigning to each, according to McNeill. The problem is that each discuss it by very
different means. In the Republic such things as poetry and paintings are dismissed fairly easily as
imitations while the Phaedrus gives an account that suggests divine inspiration for these things.
McNeill uses this to suggest that human

The Top Three Brands Of Virtualization Software
Virtualization is a combination of software and hardware engineering that creates Virtual
Machines (VMs) an abstraction of the computer hardware that allows a single machine to act as if
it were many machines, or a computer that does not physically exist as a piece of hardware. The
hardware that is seen by the operating system is emulated in an effort to separate the physical
hardware from operating system. This allows the virtual machineto be moved and hosted on any
machine independent of hardware. Virtualization technology is possibly the single most
important issue in IT and has started a top to bottom overhaul of the computing industry which
is why many companies around the world have are using its softwares to enhance their business
opportunities. There are many virtualization software programs such as IBM PowerVM,
Microsoft Hyper V, VMware, Oracle Solaris, Citrix, XenServer, and KVM. However, based on the
information I have read so far, I believe that the top three brands of virtualization software are
Citrix XenServer, Oracle VM Server and KVM. Oracle VM Server for x86 and KVM are open

big enterprises whereas Citrix XenServer and KVM are used by small to medium business and by

In terms of marketing, even the buying patterns and reasons for purchase of the consumers play a
large part in the different marketing techniques of B2B and B2C companies. In the business to
business companies, the buyers are buying based off of rational decisions and the business value a
product or service brings. This is why the marketing strategy must focus on the relationship
between businesses: the need to communicate the details and benefits of a product or service, to
prove it as a beneficial and worthwhile for another company to have, is critical.
Business to Consumer
The consumers in this type of business have buying patterns based on emotions. The products
they seek out often are selected based on price, the desire to own something they don t necessarily
need but really want, or to reflect a certain status within their social circles. These reasons create
the need for an entirely different marketing strategy one that appeals to the social status, or the
price that most consumers would be willing to pay for that product or service. The need to be
competitive, to market something so that it will sell better than the competitors is critical, as in the
technological e commerce world there is the possibility for limitless competitors, and not every one
of them will survive (Murphy, 2008).

Essay about Rate of Reaction Between Marble Chips and...
Rate of Reaction Between Marble Chips and Hydrochloric Acid
To investigate the factors which affect the rate of reaction between marble chips and hydrochloric
acid, with one in specific detail. Scientific knowledge:
Marble chips erode when they are exposed to acid rain or pollution.
Erosion is evident when you look at older marble buildings as in certain cases the erosion take a
long time. It is more likely to occur in areas, where there is more pollution. This is because there
are a greater number of industries in city than in the countryside.
Especially the higher amount of cars which release carbon dioxide, formed as a waste gas in
reactions such as internal combustion.

If each collision requires less energy, then more collisions can take place in a shorter period of
time. They also provide a surface for the molecule to attach to, increasing the probability of particles
bumping into each other. However, each different reaction needs a unique catalyst.
Surface of a catalyst
Temperatures:
Increasing the temperature gives the particles more energy, resulting in faster moving particles and,
consequently, more collisions and an increased rate of reaction.
When the reactants are heated, the rate generally increases. When the reactants are cooled, the
reaction generally goes slower. According to the collision theory, particles must collide in order to
react. Heat gives the particles more energy to move around and so they increase their speed. This
increases the chances of a collision, and more importantly a successful one, as they are hitting each
other with greater force with increased energy. On the other hand, cooling has the opposite effects
and the chances of successful collisions are reduced. Cold Hot
Surface Area:
A smaller piece within a large surface area means more areas of contact, resulting in an increased
number of collisions and, so, an increased reaction rate.
When the surface area of the solid reactant is increased, i.e. the reactant is powdered, the rate of the
reaction will also increase.
This is because there are more particles exposed for the particles of the other reactant,

Endicott s Internship Program
Endicott s internship program I feel, will help me narrow down my fields of interest in order to
choose a major. A successful internship could help me determine classes that are more
applicable to my interests. I believe I can find the right kind of classes that will expand my
thinking and increase my opportunities to succeed. With the variety of degrees and small class
sizes I know I will get a more personable experience in and out of class. The only path I see to
achieving academic success at Endicott is through hard work, dedication as well as faculty support.
It is very important to me that I am in the correct setting and I think Endicott s setting will
contribute to my success. In a proper environment, I will be able to prosper and achieve my true
personal success. Besides the ocean views, I see little distracting me from reaching my goals. One
of my more immediate goals is to make the volleyball team. I see it as enriching my college
experience and adding more structure to my days that will help me focus and be more successful.

Communism In The Film Atomic Cafe
Apart from the fear and paranoia towards the Communist camp, Americans were also shocked by
the news of Communist spies and espionages within their own backyard. This not only led to
increased surveillance in the US but the environment also became rather hostile and surveillance
was very high. When the Soviet s obtained their own nuclear bombs, the threat of the nuclear bomb
and the advancement of Communismitself became blur. In the film Atomic CafГ©, archival footage
of U.S. Senator Owen Brewster reveals him saying that the Russians obtained the atom bomb, not
through independent research, but from America, from traitors within our own ranks, referring
specifically to alleged Communists. This instigated a new sense of fear and paranoia

Outdoor Cats Cause A Decline
Sub arguments are: (1) Outdoor cats cause a decline in wildlife. (2) T.N.R. is an ineffective
treatment. (3) Outdoor cats are a threat to human health.
Therefore, the main argument is: (4) Cats should not live outdoors.
Premises support (1): (5) Outdoor cats killed 2.4 billion birds annually in the lower 48 states. (6)
Outdoor cats also kill about 12.3 billion small mammals and about 650 million reptiles and
amphibians.
Premises support (2): (7) T.N.R. is generally not particularly effective at reducing feral cat
colonies. (8) It is a way for shelters to save their image instead of euthanizing cats.
Premises support (3): (9) Cats are more likely to carry rabies. (10) They also share parasites or
infectious microbes with humans. (11) Outdoor cats are the primary hosts of toxoplasmosis, which
effects around 30% of humans.
Diagram:
(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11)
(1)(2) (3)
(4)
Sub argument (1): I perceive (1) to be a deductive argument as all the premises seem to be
intended to provide conclusive support for the conclusion. (5) and (6) both provide statistical
support for (1), claiming that outdoor cats killed about 2.4 billion birds a year in the lower states
and 12.3 billion small mammals, as well as 650 million reptiles and amphibians. The use of these
figures appear to have been included to conclusively support the claim that outdoor cats cause a
decline in wildlife. These numbers are pretty substantial. Therefore, this large amount of small
mammals,

World Is Flat Essay
The phrase: the world is flat can be interpreted in many ways. Basically what Friedman means by
flat is linked. The falling of trade and political barriers and technical advances have made it
possible to do business, instantaneously with billions of other people around the world. It has
allowed for parts of the world, which had previously been cut off, like China and India, to
successfully compete in the world market. Thus, the playing field is being leveled, and no one
nation has an advantage. Friedman could also refer to a flat world in a metaphorical sense. In a
spherical earth you cannot see around the world and cannot recognize the opportunities far from
where you live. If the world were flat you could see it all. There... Show more content on

so they could be viewed over the internet. Individuals could post their digital content so it could

kicked off by Netscape. Netscape was a huge flattening force for many reasons. The Netscape
browser not only brought the internet alive but also made it accessible to everyone. Individuals
immediately found themselves hooked with anybody s website on the internet, and in no time,
they were able to interact and be in touch with virtually anyone. Work flow software: In the late
90s, an abundance of application software hit the marketplace. The rise of this work flow

The Biological Weapons Of The Field Of Biotechnology
hnology can be defined as using living organism or their components to change or create
material for specialized use. Biotechnology is a relatively new term but it has been used for
centuries in a variety of civilizations (Gossett Kähler, 2014). The field of molecular biology
has drastically progressed the field of biotechnology essentially operating on higher order of
magnitude than our ancestors. With more knowledge of genetic material and metabolic
functions, scientists have been capable of extraordinary feats from gene therapy to genomic
sequencing. The advancements in biotechnology and in other research areas has also increased
the potential misuse of scientific research that could be used to harm humanity and the world
instead of help it. This concept has been dubbed dual use research and defined to be technology
that could be used for general public and combat purposes (Rath et al., 2014). The possible usage
of biological weapons (BW) has increased with growing technology and disputes amongst nations.
The use of genetic engineering has greatly opened opportunities for specifically generated
weapons to be produced. The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) has stopped production and
storage of BW but select parties are permitted to study and perform research on potential BW as
long as it s for neutral or beneficial objectives (Biological Weapons Convention, 2001). These
conditions have inflicted major concern within the general public and inaugurated major ethical

American Diet Needs To Change Essay
America, a nice place to just stop at a McDonalds, a Burger King or any other fast food place and
order a nice juicy burger, but did you even know what was just in that burger? Some think that
America eats plenty of good choices of foods while others think that we are out of control when it
comes to food. It s clear that overall the American diet is out of control and needs to change. The
reason why it needs to change is because processed foods are addictive and can cause people to
overeat, because the nutritionstandards are not being met, and because the high obesity rate is
partially blamed by the fast foodindustry.
One reason that the American diet needs to change is that most of the processed foods that are

The USDA recommends 8.5 grams of added fat for every 1,000 calories. Americans eat more than

The last reason that the American diet needs to change is that America has the highest obesity
rate in the world. For example Dan Mangan of CNBC argues 67% of people believe they need to
only lose a median of 27 pounds of body weight . Americans need to eat a little less than they are
right now. When most people see a food that they are craving they often take one helping but
most take 2, 3, or even sometimes 4 helpings of that food. While some may argue that its too
difficult to change when the food is processed it is more true that the food industries produce
more fresh fruit than processed fruit. Some evidence from a USA TODAY writer Nanci Hellmich
argues that fast food industries produce mostly fresh fruit and are also making organic milk come
with meals . Yes some may say that they produce organic milk and fresh food but most of the fruit

Synthesis And Characterisation Processes Of Pharmaceutical...
INTRODUCTION: The pharmaceutical industry has long been trying to improve the effectiveness
of certain drugs it would like to introduce and mass produce. The concept behind many of these
drugs is sound; however, they appear to fall short when it comes to some of their chemical
properties. These properties, including solubility, stability, intrinsic dissolution and bioavailability,
affect the extent to which the body can utilize the drugeffectively, and it is thus vital that drugs are
developed to have a maximum effect on an individual after administration. This is where
pharmaceutical co crystals are the potential key to advancing drastically the design of drugs by
enhancing their bioavailability and solubility. There has been a growing interest in the design of
pharmaceutical co crystals over the past decade and this is only going to escalate as the focus is
shifted to designing, synthesising and characterising better and more improved crystalline
structures. This report aims to examine and compare several methods in the design, synthesis and
characterisation processes of pharmaceutical co crystals in addition to providing examples of the
effectiveness of these co crystals in pharmaceutics.
WHAT ARE PHARMACEUTICAL CO CRYSTALS?
It is important first to define a co crystal, although there has been a large debate on what actually
constitutes a co crystal.1 A co crystal is, in essence, a mixed crystal or a crystal that contains two
different molecules.2 It is a solid,

The Filippino Street Children
The Filippino Street Children: A Constructivist and Behavioral Analysis Introduction: Right now
there are millions of children all over the world running around playing games of tag, engrossing
themselves in intense video games, or using their time to bury their noses in a book. Very few
of these children, and their parents for that matter, realize just how privileged they are to live in
communities here these activities are available and acceptable. In some areas of the world the
children live amongst the garbage, have never seen a video game, and struggle to make enough
money for survival. The problems lead to physical, sexual and substance abuse, criminal activity
and homelessness. The Philippines is one of these places. The issues related to street children are
some of the largest struggles of the Philippines; about 1.5 million adolescences survive on
handouts and trash (Cullen, 2005). They are often subject to violence from parents as well as
public officials. Frequently they come caught up in drug abuse and sales, prostitution, and other
illegal activities in an attempt to survive their conditions. Nutrition is a foreign concept as the
children struggle to find food of any type and in any condition. The nature and complexity of these
struggles are key components to understanding how these atrocities can be abated. From plentiful
research comes a clearer understanding of the situation, followed by an exploration of key points
and finally a proposal for furthering

Assessing Renewable Energy Projects Essay
As aforediscussed, many authors agree that capital utilization play an important role in defining
business viability; however there is a lack of assessment methodologies for making such assessment
possible on the context of assessing Renewable Energy Projects. In view of that, and in order to
tackle this difficulty, a generic assessment model has been presented on Chapter three Within the
context of studying Renewable EnergyProjects, this section provides an application of the generic
model as to provide a glance on the insights, or gains in knowledge that can be achieved from the
exploration of capital.

With its 8.5 million square kilometers and over 190 million inhabitants, Brazil is not only the
fifth largest territory, comprising nearly half of South America, but also the world s fourth
largest democracy (CIA, 2008). This tropical country is a major world player comprising one of
the most modern and sophisticated industrial economies of the developing world the tenth
largest at market exchange rates. Despite ranking as the world s 15th largest oil producer,
advancing to become oil independent due to recent massive discoveries in oil resources along its
coast (see Mello, 2008), few countries with reasonably good levels of industrialization and oil
reserves have an energy matrix with such an important share of renewable energy sources (as
Brazil) (Walter, Dolzan, E. Piacente, 2006). Brazil is considered to have the world s

Concerns of Bioterrorism
Issues/ Concerns of Bioterrorism US/Guam
What is Bioterrorism? What are the types of Bioterrorism? What issues or concerns should we
be aware of when talking about Bioterrorism? How is Bioterrorism different from the United
States and that of Guam? These are some of the things people would think of and wonder when
they hear the word Bioterrorism. It s important to know the different steps or precautions that a
person can look into in order to prevent themselves from being a victim of Bioterrorism. First
things first, Bioterrorism is defined as the intentional release of toxic biological agents to harm
and terrorize civilians, in the name of a political or other cause. The history of Bioterrorism goes
way back. According to the Terrorism Issues and Homeland Security, there have always been
efforts to use germs and disease as weapons. The reported risk has led the U.S. government to
expend immense resources for bio defense in the early part of the 21st century. According to Right
Diagnosis from health grades, there was a list of the different types of Bioterrorism and they are:
Anthrax, Salmonella, Glanders, Melioidosis, and Smallpox.
Anthrax is an acute infectious disease caused by the spore forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis.
This disease mostly occurs in wild and domestic animals such as: antelopes, camels, cattle, goats,

Washington Irving expertly reflects American history in his piece of 1819 Rip Van Winkle.
Unbeknownst to Rip Van Winkle, the colonies are now free of British rule as Irving writes, Here

Irving s keen writing exemplifies his historical insight in the tale Rip Van Winkle.
Strong puritan beliefs are discussed in Nathaniel Hawthorne s piece of 1835 Young Goodman
Brown. An important question rises that ignites more questions on the role of God versus the
devil in how we live our lives, the choices we make, and our uncertain salvation. Do we look to
God or succumb to the temptation of the devil? Hawthorne writes, What if the devil himself
should be at my very elbow (Hawthorne, 2011, para. 9). His uncertain curiosity leads him down a
wicked path of which the devil continuously pursues him and he struggles with his own
conflicting thoughts, identity, and Faith. Hawthorne historically reflects the Puritans in their
relentless struggle to become perfect in the eyes of God. Under the Puritan doctrine it s common
for individuals to live a life of uncertainty, never knowing whether God is pleased. This dilemma
is characterized by their daring desire to please themselves and still feel spiritual fulfillment.
Goodman Brown expresses his fears as well as his hopes when Hawthorne states, Faith! Faith!
cried the husband, look up to Heaven, and resist the wicked one (Hawthorne, 2011, para. 69). In
this declaration Goodman Brown advocates good while identifying evil as he renounces Satan.
Puritan history dictates that only strong belief in God makes resisting Satan possible. It is daily
repentance of sin which results in

Freight Rate Management and Shareholder Value

To avoid the risks associated with fluctuating freight rates and volatility as witnessed over the last
couple of years, companies must ensure that they consider hedging. Hedging helps in controlling
the cash inflow and outflow as dictated by both internal and external parameters (Kavussanos
Visvikis 2006). Operating costs, which is affected by among other things bunker prices, should be
addressed through hedging to ensure that companies maximize their profits and that the share
prices remain competitive and profitable.
Being registered in the London Stock Exchange, Hellenic Company has witnessed a significant
reduction in its share prices, mainly due to changes in the freight rates. The charges associated with
transporting gods and commodities from one region to another have been affected by among other
things, competition, bunker prices and inflation. The companies in the shipping business have to
adopt many strategies to minimize the risks associated with freight services (Schwartz Smith 2000).
Change in technology and services would influence management of cash inflows and outflows as it
would influence change in freight rates and hence maximize profits.
Volatility
Shipping companies have experienced volatility over the last couple of years due to inflation,
change in market demand of certain goods and competition due to an increase in the number of

• 3. Palmata Case Study A study by Ritchie, 2006 illustrated how a temperature increase initiates a temporal shift within A.palmata mucus isolates, from beneficial bacteria to dominance by members of the genus Vibrio, suggesting that protective mechanisms employed by this species are lost under warmer conditions. Increased temperatures lowering coral resistance, thus, increasing disease susceptibility is well documented (Bruno, 2007; Muller et al, 2008), as is the rise in ocean heat content (Figure 3). Figure 3: Time series showing seasonal and annual average of global upper ocean heat content for the 0 700m layer since 1955 (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) A suggested source of the WBD pathogen is African dust of which hundreds of millions of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both species affected emphasise asexual fragmentation at the expense of dispersive sexual reproduction therefore, recovery is further strained due to the reproductive strategies (Aronson Precht, 2001). In addition to this, two pesticides commonly incorporated into African dust have been found to interfere with the settlement of coral larvae (Virginia et al, 2003). Management Strategies Responsive management plans are limited due to a lack of effectual diagnosis methods. Protective statuses such as being listed on the IUCN can act as a buffer following outbreaks, and it has been shown the decreased damage from human impacts via the designation of Marine Protected Areas (MPA s) lowers disease prevalence in corals (Lamb et al, 2015; Groner et al, 2015), yet despite this, implementing effective preventative and conservation methods remains a cause for concern. Trial studies have shown antibiotic treatments to be successful in supressing transmission of WBD, specifically with the use of Ampicillin and Tetracycline, although the latter being less efficient (Kline, 2011) and Paromomycin has been shown to arrest the disease completely (Sweet et al, 2014). Genetic research has shown that gene flow is regionally restricted in both Acropora species; Hemond and Vollmer, 2010, identified mitochondrial DNA sequence data unique within A. cervicornis of the Florida Keys suggesting colonies within this area are highly genetically ... • 4. Affecting Emotions in the Workplace and Long Term... Affecting Emotions in the Workplace and Long Term Consequences Employees, particularly in service industries, find themselves increasingly called upon to display positive emotions in the workplace. Ashford and Humphrey (1993) define the act of displaying an emotion according to a display rule as emotional labor (p. 90). According to Grandey (2003), research has shown that positive affective displays, or expressing positive emotions, in service interactions, such as smiling and conveying friendliness, are positively associated with important customer outcomes, such as intention to return, intention to recommend a store to others, and perception of overall service quality. Types of emotional displays include surface acting (modifying facial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socialization as part of the onboarding process and throughout an employee s career provides examples and constant reminders of the affective displays that are desirable for the organization. Finally, rewards and punishments provide the reinforcement needed to continually modify positive and negative displays. Negative Long Term Effects According to Ang Chooi Hwa (2012) emotional labor had both beneficial effects for the organization and negative effects on the employee (p. 115). Montgomery et al. (2006) assert that emotionally demanding interactions can mean less energy available for leisure and family involvement (p. 204). Additionally, Pines and Aronson (as cited in Montgomery et al., 2006) affirm that emotionally demanding work situations over long periods of time can lead to burnout, a state of exhaustion (p. 204). Burnout, as an overall negative state, can be responsible for poor health and negative mental states. Hoschild (as cited in Grandey, 2000) agrees that emotional labor is stressful and may result in burnout. However, Grandey (2000) differentiates between surface acting and deep acting to determine that emotional labor can have both positive and negative long term effects for the employee (p. 97 101). The author further asserts that since surface acting is often equivalent to faking that it is the more detrimental of the two, resulting in stressful experiences for the employee. This makes sense, since it logical to assume that forcing oneself to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Impact Of Slavery On African American Literature Voices of Freedom: Slavery s impact on African American Literature In the early to mid nineteenth century, America found itself divided over the issue of slavery. The culture, traditions, and economy of southern states depended heavily on slave labor, while the northern states opposed the institution of slavery. Even though the slave trade was declared illegal in the early nineteenth century, slavery itself was not illegalized until more than a half century later. Abolitionists used powerful anti slavery writings as a way to fight against slavery. During this time, African Americanliterature emerged with a distinct focus on black culture within the larger American society. These authors and their writings preserved the culture of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This uncompromising narrative documents the horrors faced by female slaves, particularly sexual abuse and the heartache felt by slave mothers whose children were taken from them. Often slave narratives were deemed fictional by the white American public. These autobiographies were constantly under scrutiny for their veracity, even though many narratives were published with endorsements from famous abolitionists confirming the story s authenticity. Some slave narratives were penned by authors referring to themselves as Himself or Herself. Jacobs was forced to write under the pseudonym Linda Brent to publish her own narrative. Jacob s autobiography showed how female slaves struggled with sexual harassment and their efforts to protect their identities as women and mothers. With a mounting national debate over slavery, these ever growing narratives provided a unique manuscript documenting glimpses into the inner thoughts of slaves. Another African American writer whose literature was influenced by slavery was Phillis Wheatley. She was kidnapped from Africa at the age of eight and brought to America on a slave ship. John Wheatley, a prominent figure in Boston, purchased the young child and made her a servant for his wife. Wheatley s owners soon recognized her intelligence and extraordinary literary talent and afforded her an education. Wheatley s life was an exception ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. African American Stereotypes In Literature Minorities are some of the most targeted and mistreated people in the world because of a misconceptions we are given. Many people already have this image or idea of a person before getting to know them because of what they have heard or read. Cultural representation of people and how they are portray in literature affect how people are viewed and treated. Some common stereotypes are that Asians are very intelligent people. For Latinos, many people believe that they are gang affiliated and not very intelligent. As for African Americans, some common ones include that they all are very similar in appearance or that they are all on welfare or that they have big lips. Many believe that white people are rich and privileged. We hear these stereotypes as well as others all the time that many ignorant people believe it and treat ... Going back to the Freedom Writers book, many of the student had a hostile attitude towards their teacher because she was white and they don t feel like she is up to the task because they feel like she is too delicate and doesn t really know how rough their life is. One of her student even thought that she was rich because culturally white people are represented more highly as opposed to minorities. Many people have less trust in African Americans and Latinos because they are associated with drugs and violence. In Ferguson Brown was shot by a police officer because he believed brown was armed, this mistrust caused brown s death and an up roaring. Historically literature undermines the minorities. African Americans went from being slave to separate but equal to equal though there is still some racism. In literature minorities are sometimes portrayed as bad people. Even in television, the heroes are mostly white people. In the future there could be more diversity since more ethnic groups are being added. Thus, by the time U.S. and British forces began their attacks, the Axis forces substantially outnumbered them. The Allies faced a difficult challenge in Tunisia, and their progress was very slow. Rommel s forces fought with tenacity in one battle after another as the fighting continued well into the spring of 1943. Nonetheless, the Allies did consistently gain ground on the Axis forces. On May 7, the Allies took Tunis and soon took the remaining Axis forces in Africa more than 200,000 in all prisoner. With that, the war in North Africa was over. Results of the North African Campaign The war in North Africa was essentially an adventure initiated by Italy in an attempt to seize former colonial territories of Britain and... Many of these landings were disrupted by high winds, making it difficult for Allied troops to regroup once on the ground. During the first few days, the invaders encountered significant resistance around Sicily s main airfield, but it was quickly overcome. On July 22, the Sicilian capital of Palermo fell to the Allies, and Sicily was secured. The Invasion of the Italian Mainland The day after the fall of Sicily, Italy s Fascist ruler, Benito Mussolini, was overthrown by a peaceful coup, and Italian officials promptly began approaching the Allies about an armistice. Prior to Mussolini s ouster, U.S. and British forces had planned an invasion of the Italian mainland, and the sudden turn of events took the Allied leaders by surprise. Although Italy officially surrendered to the Allies on September 8, 1943, the Allied invasion of Italy proceeded as planned, as there were still a large number of German forces stationed in the ... • 8. A Brief Note On North American Aerospace Defense Command... A. Introduction NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) is always prepared to intercept hijacked airplanes with fighter jets, and are able to debilitate them or shoot them down Fact or fiction? This is a fact; however, on the day of September 11, 2001, four commercial airplanes were hijacked with the intent to crash into the world trade center, the pentagon, and possibly the white house. Three of these planes were successful on this mission and there is substantial evidence that NORAD knew about these hijackings, at least after the first one hit the World Trade Center. NORAD generals said they learned of the hijackings in time to scramble fighter jets. (NewsOne) Why did they instead choose to stand down? Obviously, NORAD was commanded by a higher authority to abstain from thwarting these men s attempts. This must be because the corrupt government of the United States either knew these attacks were going to take place, or they allowed them to happen to benefit from the after effects. The government may not have been completely behind the 9/11 attacks, but they most certainly had some part in it and had the capability to prevent them; therefore, we must consider the theories we could possibly believe, and those that we dismiss outright through analysis and contemplative thought. B. Background It is September of 2001. The United States has not been actively involved in a war in 10 years since the end of the Persian Gulf War(Kelly). The U.S. is relatively ... • 10. How Did George Orwell Influence The Rise Of Communism Best distinguished by his cautionary novels on the rise of communism, George Orwell was frequently influenced by his up bringing, careers, and experiences fighting fascism. Born Eric Arthur Blair, George Orwell was born in British India to a family he would later famously described as lower upper middle class . His win could be summed up by the fact that William was a better leader. Other factors that contributed to William s victory include: William was better prepared, the English army was severely weakened as Harold had just fought off an invasion in the North of England, and Harold made a fatal mistake of prematurely entering the Battle of Hastings. However, towards the end of the battle, William set a trap to draw Harold from his strong position and he fell for it. Jesus answered him, Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward. 37 Peter said to Him, Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake. 38 Jesus answered him, Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times. Peter s mind is occupied; and He missed the command to love one another. Peter, probably similar to the Jews in chapter 7 and 8 who said where is He going that we can t find Him? On Wenlock Edge is a song cycle of six pieces by Vaughan Williams, set to words from A.E Housman s collection of poems A Shropshire lad . Having studied musicwith the likes of Ravel, Williams was very aware of the impressionist movement (particularly in France) that was in full swing at the beginning of the 20th century he also spent much of his life travelling around England, collection folk songs (particularly those of the Tudor period). These influences are distinctly heard in On Wenlock Edge . Put simply, the poems that make up A Shropshire Lad depict country life, however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The melodies in these pieces also have been used to attain a sense of immersion in the English countryside, a place where Williams folk songs would have been found. The recitative style melodic line at the beginning of Is My Team Ploughing? contributes to this feeling as it was written in D Dorian mode, a particular scale that is very recognisable from it s use in traditional folk songs. A famous example of this is Greensleves, a traditional Elizabethan folk song written in Dorian mode, which, like in Williams song, has a very distinctive feel to it. In the poem that On Wenlock Edge is set to, Housman presents a landscape that is under torment in a heavy storm, with strong winds. With resources that are not suited to create such an effect (a string quartet, piano and voice), Williams relies on other composition methods to set the text truthfully. At the beginning, the strings and piano play triplets and sextuplets, with the strings using tremolo. The rhythms are often used to present a constant movement, or fluidity in the music, as is used to represent the wind, with the tremolo adding a slightly frantic, unpredictability to it. At the time that the pieces were written, programme music had recently become a popular style of composing, particularly shown by BedЕ™ich Smetana, whose work Ma Vlast was published in 1872. In contrast, one significant difference between the poems by Soyinka and Clark is the format, as one is written in block form and the other is in stanzas. First, the piece by Soyinka contains stanzas, which are used to group specific ideas and themes together, as well as indicate a shift into a new idea. However, the primary use of this format in Abiku is to demonstrate the many lives of the Abiku as it continues to torment its mother. This also adds to the belief in incarnation of the African people. Conversely, Clark use block style poetryin order to demonstrate the circular manner of the Abiku s numerous reincarnations. There is no separation between the lines, showing that the Abiku keeps on returning with very little break in between. Because of the large amounts of plantations and farms in the south, new land was needed so that the crops that had dried up the soil could continue to grow and the economy can continue to benefit. This growth in land and economy indicates that the economic benefit in the south came from crops and agricultural might, rather than industrial. These differences help identify that the era of good feelings and the nationalism that is implied is incorrect and inaccurate, as people have more of a connection towards the land that they make their money on, which implies sectionalism. • 28. Methods Of Observation A Surface Measurements II. Methods of observation A. Surface Measurements Rain gauge observations dating back to 1986 have been used to estimate precipitation rates. Figure 1 shows the distribution of rain gauges around the globe. Precipitation is measured in terms of the total depth of a flat surface area, assuming no water vapor is lost by melting or evaporation. Precipitation depth is measured in inches in the United States and in millimeters for research purposes and most other countries. Frozen precipitation is melted and added to the total amount of rainfall (i.e. liquid water equivalent). Precipitation measurements may utilize either touched (mechanical gauges) instruments, such as standard rain gauges and tipping buckets, or untouched instruments (remote sensing gauges). Untouched measurements may use disdrometer or remote sensing by radar. A standard rain gauge consists of four components: a large outer container, a measuring tube, a collector funnel, and a measuring stick. Disdrometers measure the drop size distribution and the resulting velocity of falling hydrometeors, which in combination can be used to estimate the precipitation rate. The size distribution can be used to measure radar reflectivity. Surface measurements may contain several errors due to potential losses of evaporation/runoff and the melting of frozen precipitation. Surface contamination may occur as wind, soil, and vegetation must be accounted for. Other factors may include the diameter or height of the gauge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Critical Narrative And Story Telling Style English 2201 helped me discover not only myself as a writer, but allowed me to go more in depth with learning how to write in the field of my intended discipline. This is the first specific English class I have taken that focused on the style of writing I will need to be familiar in the future with. Because of that fact, I defiantly enjoyed this class. I feel like my knowledge and ability to navigate the writingtechniques of my major have improved and my in text citations skills have improved greatly. Overall this course opened my eyes to the many different styles there are in the field of Communications, which is my intended field of study, and how to use these styles correctly and efficiently. I learned an array of new things with every paperand project we participated in. Our first project was a critical narrative styled paper. Personally when it comes to writing, I prefer the critical narrative and story telling style because I enjoy putting my creative mind to work. It is easier for me to write down exactly what I am thinking, rather than writing research papers with sources to go off of. So, I extremely enjoyed the first project. The main element I can take away from writing the Category 1: Writing in the Field assignment was how to conduct a proper interview. I interviewed Marc Morriston, who is the head of marketing at WNCT News here in Greenville. I conducted the interview based off of what we learned in class and I ended up making connections that I can use in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Peter Drucker, whose life crossed the previous century (1909 2005), was an exceedingly instructed native of the world: an innovative soul who composed thirty nine books including numerous fantastic chips away at business management. He was a man of numerous parts: a sharp eyewitness, a long lasting understudy, an educator, mentor of eminent corporate pioneers, and the organizer of an official school in Claremont, California, that bears his name. The point when Peter Drucker, then a trainee bank assistant in Hamburg, initially contemplated the works of SГ¶ren Kierkegaard (1813 1855): the existentialist savant, theologist, religious writer and advocate of the Idea of Christianity, Kierkegaard was still moderately obscure. Drucker was captivated by the philosophy embraced by this philosophical independent, in particular, to utilize logic as an instrument for reflecting upon Christianity. Kierkegaard suspected that people existed in an element relationship as both profound creatures and individuals from society. As per Kierkegaard, it is conviction that instills our otherworldly existence with the conviction that we are not the only one, with importance, and with a flat out perspective, in particular God. The distinguishment on one hand that wickedness is a piece of human instinct and on the other that a sufferable coexistence is still conceivable got to be natural to Peter Drucker s own rationality. This gathering of Peter F. Drucker s papers investigates the crossing point between society, governmental issues, and financial aspects. • 35. How Does Earthquake Affect The Earthquake Task Two: Earthquakes and Buildings The type of buildings that were the most damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. In the 6.3 magnitude Christchurch earthquake that occurred at 12.51pm on the 22nd of February 2011, the types of buildings that were the most damaged were houses and commercial buildings that were built in the 19th and early 20th century. The majority of these buildings that were damaged were ones that relied on single or double brick for their structure. This relates to how the bricks are placed on the house and whether there are two layers or one layer of brick. Buildings made of bricks and stones were damaged because they can t move with the earth and most of the bricks crack and fall off making the structure a lot less stable and more likely to collapse in an aftershock. Brick chimneys on the old wooden houses fell over and crashed through the roofs and caused a lot of damage. Stone buildings such as the Old Stone House were also badly damaged and had to be closed following the February 2011 earthquake. The most structural damage mainly occurred in houses that were made of heavy materials such as stones, bricks or concrete. This is because it is harder for these building materials to withstand strong shaking and to support their own weight when they begin to lose shape. They can t bounce back as easy once they have been forced in the other direction. This forces the buildings to fall outwards or collapse. A lot of damage occurred in houses and ... • 36. The Role Of Identity In S. Morgenstern s The Princess Bride What if? A question that many people find themselves asking. What if someone read Lord of The Rings instead of Harry Potter? Would they be attempting to learn Elvish instead of learning magic spells? In life, there are choices that have to be made. One or the other. The same applies to literature. For example, The Princess Bride, by S. Morgenstern. Readers of this novel may begin to ask themselves this very question. What if Westley did not reveal his identity to Buttercup when he fell down the ravine? How would this affect the remainder of the story? There are so many different ways that the story could have gone if the author had changed when Westley revealed his true identity. There are so many times and places where it would be logical for him to uncover his disguise, but it is up to the imagination to decide on the best way. S. Morgenstern in his work, The Princess Bride, demonstrates the ability to change by allowing the reader to modify his story with their own creative thoughts. In order to have several different outcomes to the story, someone must first take out the original written portion where Westley reveals his identity to Buttercup. After someone mentally erases everything that happened after Westley fell down the ravine, they can now think of all of the different possible outcomes. In the text, it states, Words followed her. Whispered from far, weak and warm and familiar. As... you... wish...(185). This is the original point in which he shows her his true identity. Now, what if he had fallen down the steep hill and said nothing? Based on Buttercup s instinct for survival and her powerful characteristics, one could assume that as soon as her attacker was no longer able to harm her, she would try her best to find her way back to safety. She made no effort to not consistently explain to all four of her assailants that her Prince would find and save her no matter how long it took, and knowing this, one would assume that she would wait for her Prince as long as she needed to. However, the main plot of the story revolves around murder and suicide, so Buttercup would either die from suicide, or be murdered by Prince Humperdinckon their wedding night depending on what horrible ... Cooper s ideas concerning this desire seem to fit a model Plato would readily accept as this interpretation of wholeness is fleshed out in greater detail certainly seem Platonic especially as this idea of wholeness is presented in a speech in the Symposium, and it is of intrigue as to why it never became a part of the soul Platoset out to define. Perhaps it was too much for him to interfere with the parallel between the city and the soul that he describes earlier in this work and their reliance on three parts. Or, as Cooper asks, was Plato meaning to leave a discussion on the eros under the surface of his work in the Republic? (pgs. 350 61). Regardless, discourse concerning eros in the Republic has taken place and one such example of that is David H. McNeill. He argues that human eros cannot involve the desires of something other worldly, at least in the Republic which he contrasts with the Phaedrus. Of the two works, art is something approached very differently and is a part of a philosophical orientation that Plato is assigning to each, according to McNeill. The problem is that each discuss it by very different means. In the Republic such things as poetry and paintings are dismissed fairly easily as imitations while the Phaedrus gives an account that suggests divine inspiration for these things. The hardware that is seen by the operating system is emulated in an effort to separate the physical hardware from operating system. Consumer Buying Patterns Business to Business In terms of marketing, even the buying patterns and reasons for purchase of the consumers play a large part in the different marketing techniques of B2B and B2C companies. In the business to business companies, the buyers are buying based off of rational decisions and the business value a product or service brings. This is why the marketing strategy must focus on the relationship between businesses: the need to communicate the details and benefits of a product or service, to prove it as a beneficial and worthwhile for another company to have, is critical. Business to Consumer The consumers in this type of business have buying patterns based on emotions. The products they seek out often are selected based on price, the desire to own something they don t necessarily need but really want, or to reflect a certain status within their social circles. These reasons create the need for an entirely different marketing strategy one that appeals to the social status, or the price that most consumers would be willing to pay for that product or service. They also provide a surface for the molecule to attach to, increasing the probability of particles bumping into each other. However, each different reaction needs a unique catalyst. Surface of a catalyst Temperatures: Increasing the temperature gives the particles more energy, resulting in faster moving particles and, consequently, more collisions and an increased rate of reaction. When the reactants are heated, the rate generally increases. When the reactants are cooled, the reaction generally goes slower. According to the collision theory, particles must collide in order to react. Heat gives the particles more energy to move around and so they increase their speed. This increases the chances of a collision, and more importantly a successful one, as they are hitting each other with greater force with increased energy. On the other hand, cooling has the opposite effects and the chances of successful collisions are reduced. Cold Hot Surface Area: A smaller piece within a large surface area means more areas of contact, resulting in an increased number of collisions and, so, an increased reaction rate. These properties, including solubility, stability, intrinsic dissolution and bioavailability, affect the extent to which the body can utilize the drugeffectively, and it is thus vital that drugs are developed to have a maximum effect on an individual after administration. This is where pharmaceutical co crystals are the potential key to advancing drastically the design of drugs by enhancing their bioavailability and solubility. There has been a growing interest in the design of pharmaceutical co crystals over the past decade and this is only going to escalate as the focus is shifted to designing, synthesising and characterising better and more improved crystalline structures. • 56. The American Character Essay Washington Irving expertly reflects American history in his piece of 1819 Rip Van Winkle. Unbeknownst to Rip Van Winkle, the colonies are now free of British rule as Irving writes, Here a general shout burst from the bystanders A Tory! a Tory! a spy! A refugee! hustle him! Away with him (Matthews, 2007, para. 36). Rip enters the village armed, ignorant of the fact that he presents the look of a loyalist. The question of being a refugee is preferable to accusations of being a Tory, as a colonist refugee would not claim British loyalty which Rip did openly saying ...And a loyal subject of the king, God bless him (Matthews, 2007, para. 35). If Rip had not been justified by one who once knew him, there could have been an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Irving s keen writing exemplifies his historical insight in the tale Rip Van Winkle. Strong puritan beliefs are discussed in Nathaniel Hawthorne s piece of 1835 Young Goodman Brown. An important question rises that ignites more questions on the role of God versus the devil in how we live our lives, the choices we make, and our uncertain salvation. Do we look to God or succumb to the temptation of the devil? Hawthorne writes, What if the devil himself should be at my very elbow (Hawthorne, 2011, para. 9). His uncertain curiosity leads him down a wicked path of which the devil continuously pursues him and he struggles with his own conflicting thoughts, identity, and Faith. Hawthorne historically reflects the Puritans in their relentless struggle to become perfect in the eyes of God. Under the Puritan doctrine it s common for individuals to live a life of uncertainty, never knowing whether God is pleased. This dilemma is characterized by their daring desire to please themselves and still feel spiritual fulfillment. Goodman Brown expresses his fears as well as his hopes when Hawthorne states, Faith! Faith! cried the husband, look up to Heaven, and resist the wicked one (Hawthorne, 2011, para. 69). In this declaration Goodman Brown advocates good while identifying evil as he renounces Satan. Puritan history dictates that only strong belief in God makes resisting Satan possible. It is daily repentance of sin which results in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To avoid the risks associated with fluctuating freight rates and volatility as witnessed over the last couple of years, companies must ensure that they consider hedging. Hedging helps in controlling the cash inflow and outflow as dictated by both internal and external parameters (Kavussanos Visvikis 2006). Operating costs, which is affected by among other things bunker prices, should be addressed through hedging to ensure that companies maximize their profits and that the share prices remain competitive and profitable. Being registered in the London Stock Exchange, Hellenic Company has witnessed a significant reduction in its share prices, mainly due to changes in the freight rates. The charges associated with transporting gods and commodities from one region to another have been affected by among other things, competition, bunker prices and inflation. The companies in the shipping business have to adopt many strategies to minimize the risks associated with freight services (Schwartz Smith 2000). Change in technology and services would influence management of cash inflows and outflows as it would influence change in freight rates and hence maximize profits.
