Individualism In The House On Mango Street
Let your home be your mast and not your anchor, said Kahlil Gibran, exposing the unneeded
focus on materialism to keep people in a harsh cycle of poverty. Expressing an idea that
materialistic should not force stigma and should show individualism, Gibran provides insight
into the bullying through goods. In this way, he relates to Cisneros s ideas through the usage of
a house as a metaphor for good created feelings of shame. In Sandra Cisneros s House on Mango
Street, Esperanza s contesting views on her impoverished house demonstrate that she accepts her
role in poverty, one of being left helpless and exploited by callous bullies and one of shamed
individualism. Using Esperanza s view of her house as an unlikable symbol that deteriorates... Show

During one of Esperanza s wishful daydreams, she delineates what she wants to own, saying, A
house all to my own. With my porch and my pillow (Cisneros 43). Perpetuating my , Esperanza
shows that she wants her house to show that she is an individual who is not to be shamed by
what she lives in. This image of individualism is expanded through the stress on own . In a
similar fashion, while thinking about foreign neighborhoods, Esperanza thinks, All brown all
around, we are safe. But watch us drive into a neighborhood of another color and our knees go
shakity shake and our car windows get rolled up tight and our eyes look straight . Esperanza
shows that she feels safe when there is all brown all around , further emphasizing her point of
being an individual. The usage of the home in this case represents a flaw of Esperanza and how
it is bad to be in a different home than her. Later, Cisneros utilizes Esperanza s fantasy of her
aspiration to own her house, One day I ll own my own house, but I won t forget who I am or
where I came from. Passing bums will ask, Can I come in? I ll offer them the attic, ask them to
stay, because I know how it is to be without a house . Her house acts as a compassionate being,
such as her dream is to be. It also represents her desire to remain sturdy and

Biodiesel Synthesis Lab Report
Leah Romero 04/30/2018 Lab 13 Chem. 102L In lab 13, synthesis of biodiesel, the main purpose
was to test for the presence of contaminants like soap, and to determine the purity of the sample.
This was done by performing a transesterification of vegetable oil when a solid catalyst is present
in order to produce biodiesel. In the lab procedure the outcomes that were observed were
biodiesel being synthesized using a solid state catalyst, biodiesel being tested for quality, and
being able to explain the synthesis pathway for biodiesel. Biodiesel can be produced from a
variety of renewable sources. The chemical properties that lie behind this lab all tie in with the
components of biodiesel. The biodiesel production process is just a few simple... Show more content

The Testament Of The Bible Essay
Like many individuals in today s world, not many of us actually know of the true accounts
conveyed to us by means of the Bible. Being able to decipher the Bible, in its own way is a task
in itself. Growing up as a young child, I had attended church with my grandfather, but back then I
was not really exposed to the Bible, as I have been exposed to it by taking this course. The purpose
of this assignment, is to research Mosesand the Passover in Exodus 10 15 of the Old Testamentin the
Hebrew Bible. By using various resources such as commentaries, dictionaries, and the Bible itself
has helped me grasp a better knowledge of Moses and the role that he played within the Bible, as
well as the story of Passover. I always knew that Moses was considered to be an important figure
within the Bible. But, I never knew exactly how significant he truly remained. Since enrolling in
this religion course, I have learned background information, that I never knew previously. The text
studied within this course was a brief introduction to the Old Testament discussing the Hebrew
Bible in its context. The Old Testament integrates the scared writings of the Jewish belief, that are
all inscribed at different periods of time from anywhere around 1200 to 165 BC. The Old Testament
positions the foundations for the education and proceedings that transpire in the New Testament. I
find it absolutely necessary to study the Old Testament in order to gain the concept of events,

Sectionalism In The Early 1800s
The ideas of nationalism and sectionalism in the early 1800s played a large role in the presidential
elections leading up to the Civil War. Nationalism is when the population of a nation has love for
their country put their country first. Sectionalism is when the population identifies more with the
ideals of their region more than they identify with the nation as a whole. Please two ideas would
become the basis of the Missouri compromise, the Monroe doctrine, and this establishment of new
political parties in the United Statesduring the early 1800s. The conflict between the ideas of
nationalism and sectionalism came in part from the practice of slavery. In the Missouri
Compromise is a key example of this the Missouri compromise Set boundaries

Advertisement Analysis Of An Advertisement
There are many things that go in to make an advertisement successful for the audience. In 2014, a
photography blogger, Johnny Baker, posted a set of four photos stating that smoking dulls your
senses. The ad is successful because of the use of how simple and plain the photos are but also
explaining the true facts and how dangerous and expensive smokingis. To understand the purpose of
this print advertisement, you must understand why Baker created these. He states, I created still
life scenes that represented certain facts about smoking, these facts were chosen as they would
be off putting to new smokers and people that smoke already. (baker)I feel the ad appeals more
towards women than men but also relates a little to everyone because it talks about the effects
that smoking has during a pregnancy and how smoking can cause your skin to wrinkle and age
faster. This is important because pregnancy is wanted for most women and smoking can cause
serious affect to fertility. Also, men do not care as much about wrinkles like women. All four of
the photos are items, but what makes the message so powerful is Baker creates them with
cardboard. He says he did this to make it eye catching and to replicate the color of the
addictiveness, which is nicotine. The first picture to appear, appeals to everyone because
everybody needs food to survive. It shows a drink, a hamburger and some fries, but all made from
cardboard. The caption explains that smoking dulls your

A current interview with local Senior Manager at...
A current interview with local Senior Manager at RadioShack backs the company s reinvigorated
focus on wireless phones, RadioShack has established their position in the wireless phone
business because of the one on one attention clientele can receive from shopping at RadioShack.
This form of attention cannot be given on such a multifaceted product by anyone other than a
highly trained team member, such as at RadioShack. The company center of attention for 2006 is
wireless phones, plain and simple. Employees are paid a commission on wireless sales. This is

But the transition to a greater wireless focus has proved painful. In order for RadioShack to
properly evaluate and resole this issue it must apply the systems organizational behavior theory.
This theory evaluates companies as individual yet interconnected pieces of a much larger operation.
If the management team of the company alters just one facet of a department, it may cause
aftershocks which echo through other departments. Under this theory, it is important to
comprehend that a dynamic equilibrium must exist in order for the company to continue operating
efficiently. That being said, RadioShack s increased focus on wireless needs to be examined and
addressed. In an effort to regain the wireless lead from retailers, such as Wal Mart, RadioShack is
continuing to expand its wireless kiosks and replacing long time partner, Verizon Wireless, with
Cingular Wireless. One thing is for certain. RadioShack acknowledges they need to react more
rapidly than in the past to the ever changing retail environment, if they plan to survive. Survival
requires adaptation, and adaptation often involves predictable sequences. As the organization ages,
it will pass through the stages of forming, developing, maturing, and declining in relation to
environmental circumstances. Thus ultimately, the criteria of effectiveness must reflect the stage
of the organization s life cycle. Time will tell if RadioShack is in a

Rites Of Passage, Right Or Wrong
Rites of Passage, Right or Wrong ? Throughout history the term rights of passage has been used
to describe the transition of a person into a new stage of their lives. Rites of passage are relevant
in every day life all over the world. Most prominently though, Africa has a large population of
people whose groups still practice traditional rites of passageto mark special life achievements.
Basically, anything meaningful that happens within their tribe such as the birth of a child, the
entrance into adulthood, marriage, death, and so on, are all celebrated with the completion of
different customs. The celebration of rituals include dances, songs, and other formalities, however
groups across the continent also use varying methods of initiationthat most commonly include
circumcision in both sexes. For decades, people have questioned whether or not this traditional
initiation ritual is necessary and if it could possibly be harmful to young people within certain
tribes that practice them. Much controversy surrounds the issue of following tradition even while
performing procedures such as female mutilation. How are these rites of passage viewed as
beneficial and how are they seen as destructive? What are some alternative rites of passage for
these young initiates? A rite of passage, in African culture, is a ceremonial event in which a person
enters into a new stage of their life(Haley, McNaughton, Moss, Sallah and Wilson 3). Many of the
traditional rituals and ceremonies

A Cord Of Three Strands Analysis
The Faculty Jazz Ensemble was on Monday, November 9 in the Westbrook Music Hall. The
Performers included Peter Bouffard on guitar, Paul Haar on saxophone, Dave Hall on drums,
Tom Larson on piano, Hans Sturm on bass, and Darryl White on trumpet. The first piece was A
Cord of Three Strands composed by Darryl White. It was in a minor mode and was in triple meter.
The piece started off with a calm piano dynamic and homophonic texture with the trumpet playing
the melody over the drums, bass, and piano playing a countermelody underneath. The trumpet soon
fades out with a cadence and the saxophone comes in with a deeper more calming sound than the
trumpet, again with a homophonic texture. The piece reminds me of a calm pouring rain. When
the saxophone and trumpet are included, the rain picks up and when it is just the drums, bass, and
piano it is like a slight drizzle of rain. The piece fizzles out in the end with a clam cadence.... Show

The piece starts of with a light sound and homophonic texture. The bass, piano, saxophone, and
trumpet are on the melody with the drums countering underneath. Soon, the saxophone comes in
with a solo over the rest of the instruments. This solo is flowy and lingering. The melody seems to
be conjunct. I envisioned a person ice skating, gliding around on the ice without tripping or
stumbling. As the saxophone settles out, there is a decrescendo. There is a combination between a
homophonic texture of saxophone and trumpet over bass, drums, and piano and polyphonic
textures of the bass, piano, and drums playing various different melodies. This created a great deal
of tension with made for a not so tonal rhythm. In this part, the ice skater is doing a lot of starting
and stopping, stumbling. The piece ended with a short, but complete cadence that resolved the

Quote Approval In Interviews
The practice of quote approval in interviews with politicians and their campaign officials is
becoming more common as the constant need for information allows sources to dictate the terms of
interviews. Case study 2 A presented by Patterson Wilkins (2014, p. 37) is concerned with the
ethical implications of allowing governmentofficials use quote approval in their interviews and how
quote approval affects the reliability of information. Quote approval is a practice that is relatively
harmless when omitting parts of quote doesn t change its meaning, but quote approval also sets a
dangerous precedent that could lead to more governmental control over public information and the
press.
Micro Issues First, journalists need to provide citizens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The freedom of expression is granted unconditionally on the grounds that it is used to do moral
good, and placing the needs of a few politicians over the general public is not morally good
(Patterson Wilkins, 2014, p. 38). Bending the truth to benefit the campaign or image of a public
figure is deceiving the public regardless of the information being withheld. Citizen journalism
heavily influence quote approval since many politicians have misspoke when speaking off the cuff
with citizens and damaged their public image. Quote approval is used to assure that these situations
do not occur and hurt polling numbers, but quote approval could be considered to be breaking the
ethical news values of accuracy and community (Patterson Wilkins, 2014, pp. 35 36).
Conclusion
In conclusion, quote approval can blur the lines between ethical and unethical journalism
depending on the degree of alteration to a quote. Altering quotes can be ethical if it only makes the
quote more concise and easy to understand, but there is a fine line between altering for readability
and altering the meaning. Quote approval is a slippery slope that could lead to public figures and
government officials controlling the flow of information, and the implications of a news media
controlled by the government are extremely

How Lean Manufacturing Helps Our Economy Essay
Lean manufacturing plays a major role in our economy and yet it is almost unheard of outside
manufacturing. It is important to know lean manufacturing relates to our individual lives and how
we can all benefit from this concept. With current slow economic recovery, it is imperative that we
find avenues that consumers can get through these difficult times, but also to implement the lessons
learned values into future thinking. The rising cost of goods and the unemployment rate high, lean
manufacturingis helping to keep cost low and jobs in America where they belong.

(Return on Investment) would be used to reinvest in product development and refining

Lean Manufacturing is actually a concept by way of the removal of all waste from any process
associated with expense with the goal of a greater return by introducing additional products or
processes that would be invested for a greater return on every dollar spent. For instance, how much
more groceries can a family purchase if they could get paid for the right purchases made throughout
the month, without sacrificing quality and usefulness.
The concept of Lean Manufacturing was not quickly adopted by the United States manufacturing
companies because of the cost incurred by changing the old manufacturing processes; the perceived
need did not outweigh the benefits. In the 1970 s and the1980 s manufacturing companies in the
United States took a closer look when Japanese and Chinese companies were selling similar
products as the United States like cars, trucks, electronics, and toy, but at lower cost to the U.S.
consumers. Companies within the United States urgently sought out experts from Japan to
understand this new method due to declining revenues and the realization they were being forced
out of market share. They learned that the concept of Lean Manufacturing was to change the goals
by exposing waste in all areas within the manufacturing process with an increased focus to satisfy

Economic Systems Essay
Introduction
Economic systems are organized way in which a state or nation allocates its resources and
apportions goods and services in the national community. An economic system is slackly defined
as country s plan for its services, goods produced, and the exact way in which its economic plan is
carried out. There are three types of economic systems exist, they are command economy, market
economy, and mixed economy. Command economy is also sometimes called planned economy. The
expectations of this type of economy is that all major decisions that related to the construction or
production, distribution, commodity and service prices are all made by the government. However,

Businesses can decide which goods to produce and in what quantity and consumers can decide
what they want to purchase and at what price. The role of the state is limited to ensure right
precision in the prices charged by the sellers. Prices also have the function to allocate and
distribute a country s resources. Market leads to complete effectiveness bringing about the best
possible distribution of a country s resources in a perfect world. This would only happen in a
state of equilibrium and there is a unique price for every commodity. But in a realistic world
which is imperfect by nature, prices are never at equilibrium and very unstable depending upon
the vagaries of the market forces. This generally harms people living below the poverty line. It
is impossible for them to pay high prices in cases of demand shortage. Thus, the free market
model is not a viable option in developing countries which has a large number of poor. Besides,
producers are aim to minimize profit and maximize rent of production. Examples of countries that
are using this economy system are Hong Kong, USA, and UK. Many developing countries like
India and China are moving towards totally free market economy. The command economy is
government directed. The market forces have very little say in such an economy. There is no
private property. On the other hand, a command economy aims at using all available resources for
developing either

Relation Between Inflation Rate and Unemployment
Eurozone unemployment and inflation both rise
01 March 2012 by Daniel Mason
Eurozone unemployment rose to a record high in January, while inflation in the currency bloc has
also continued its upward trend a combination described by economists as unpalatable and a double
whammy of bad news .
The jobless rate in the 17 member currency bloc was 10.7 per cent in January, up from 10.6 per
cent in December, according to statistics published today by Eurostat. It means that, in January,
there were 16.9 million people out of work in the eurozone. Meanwhile in the European Union as a

A rise in income will create increased purchasing power. Thus, the demand remains high as it
reaches a point where the supply can no longer meet the demand, inflation occurs. However, at the
same time, when unemployment is high, workers are unable to ask for better wages. This means
that prices can fall, since businesses are not having to pay their employees better wages. Therefore,
in many cases, when there is low unemployment, there is high inflation and vice versa. It has been
observed that there was a stable and inverse relationship between rate of inflation and the rate of
unemployment in an economy. In other words, a lower unemployment rate could be had by
tolerating a higher rate of inflation.
However, since the simultaneous occurrence of high inflation and high unemployment in the
United States and other countries during the 1970s, there has been general agreement that this
econometric relationship is unstable. Indeed, the instability has been so great that Lucas and
Sargent characterized it as econometric failure on a grand scale. (1)
As is known to all, widespread joblessness in Greece and Spain pushed the unemployment rate in
the eurozone to the worst level since 1999. Coupled with the pitched unemployment rate, the
economy has suffered from fluctuation. Take the example of the news released in recent time,
which is concerned with the financial situation in Eurozone. As what we can see in the news report,

A survey of 140,000 men in eight European countries showed that 10 cm more in abdominal

The Allegory of the Cave ties in with our world and society we live in today in many ways. One
way would be that our world we live in values education a lot, more than a lot of things. In Plato:
Allegory of the Cave the prisoners value education just as much as we do in the modern century.
The prisoners praise one another if they guess the right shadow that is going to be displayed. If
they guess the wrong shadow then they make fun of one another. As they sit there in the little cave
for most of their life they do not really understand or know what education is but they do think the
shadow game makes them smarter than the other prisoners. The prisoners think the shadows are
real so they feel smart when they guess right as to what they are.

Tetanus Is An Infection Caused By Clostridium Tetani Bacteria
Tetanus

November 22, 2016
Tetanus Tetanus is an infection caused by the Clostridium tetani bacteria, also written C. tetani.
The C. tatani bacterium is gram positive and shaped like a slender rod, once it has developed a
terminal spore it may resemble a drumstick (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC],
2015). The actual bacteria are heat sensitive and cannot survive when there is oxygen present, the
spores on the other hand are very heat resistant and can survive the presence of oxygen (CDC,
2015). Cases of tetanus continue to shrink in the United States and other developed countries
thanks to the availability of the tetanus vaccination; however, in underdeveloped countries tetanus
is still a major problem. Tetanus presents with various visible signs and symptoms which may vary
based on the type of tetanus. The type of tetanus will also determine the methods used to treat the
infection.
Epidemiology
Tetanus can occur anywhere in the world. You will find occurrences of this infection more
frequently in hot, damp climates with highly populated areas (CDC, 2015). The spores of the C.
tetani bacterium are found in unassuming locations such as the soil in your garden, especially if
treated with animal manure, as well as the intestines and feces of many animals, such as your
favorite cat or guinea pig (CDC, 2015). The normal mode of transmission is

General Positivism And The Interpretive Paradigm
Part 1: Purpose
a)Social Science Research Paradigm
The social science paradigm also known as Post positivism consists of testing hypothesis and
research questions that are developed through reasoning. This is done through measurements and
observation. Social scientists aspire to science and they seek to study human behaviour, interaction
and thought in an organized way; which we can then measure, generalize and replicate. Like any
research, post positivism needs to be backed up by evidence. When a social science research sets
out a research project, it is their goal to find evidence that can either agree or disagree with the
hypothesis or theories. Post positivism, compared to positivism allows more interaction with the
participants of the research project and seeks to highlight the relationship between universal
properties between the variables. The best way to understand post positivism is by comparing it to
positivism and the interpretive paradigm. Compared to positivism, post positivism is more tolerant
for value based information, however is not focused on qualitative information like the interpretive
paradigm, instead the research is mainly focused on quantitative data.

Examples Of Disillusionment In The Hollow Men
Inspired by a combination of nationalistic fervor and glorified expectations of a short war,
thousands of soldiers from multiple countries enlisted to fight in the devastating conflict known as
World War I. These men were quickly met with disillusionment when they discovered the truly
nightmarish conditions of this war characterized by attrition. Much of the war took place in
trenches where soldiers fought in filth and watched helplessly as comrades were massacred by
bombshells, machine guns, and mustard gas. As it drew to a close, the survivors were left in the
rubble to contend with the unearthly conditions they had experienced and the unspeakable acts they
had committed during the war. Struggling to process the unfathomable destruction and... Show more

Apparently, Eliot s metaphorical language portrays the dread of the veterans anticipating the
omniscient judgmental eyes of either god or those of the people they killed in the afterlife since
they feel unable to atone for their sins. As a result of this fear of damnation, the veteran prays, in
an ironically similar fashion to the Lord s prayer, to be no nearer to death s dream kingdom and
to wear the disguise of a Rat s coat, crow skin, [and] crossed staves (31 35). Here, Eliot implies
that the veteran s faith is dwindling, as the veteran knows that if there is a God, he will likely be
punished for his actions; therefore, he feels he must abandon his beliefs to escape imminent hell.
As for the disguise, the veteran wishes to mask any semblance of being a soldier and rather
appear as an innocent civilian wielding crossed staves, or rather an outward display of Christianity
as represented the symbol of the crucifix, despite the veteran s own recession from faith

It is not important to move on fast, but to examine how the past has made an impact on you and
your children. A person that has been divorce should see if the relationship with spouse could be
reconciled. Deal recommends that you should prep yourself and the kids for dating. The family
should conquer fears of what they have. Adult fears can consist of losing kid connection, causing
kid pain, not blending, choosing a mate poorly, ex spouse fear, fearing spiritual judgment. The
person should rate their fear between 1 10. Single parents should pray to God and ask him to help
you overcome your fears and help you have successful dating relationship. Parents should commit
to each other fully to love one another. Help children overcome their fears by telling them that you
will always love them no matter what. Children are very smart and they want to know what is
going on. Have conversations with them about how things might change with you dating. Remain
patient with your children and do not force them to love your partner like you love them. This will

Persuasive Essay About Black Friday
I normally participate in the Black Friday festivities myself so, going out and just asking
questions was a normal part of it. It started about 6 years ago when I went out Black Friday
shopping with two of my best friends. The three of us went to Best Buy with the intention of our
friend Hansford getting this surround sound speaker for $200 that was regularly $300 I believe.
It was my first time ever going as well as theirs too I believe. We were a year out of High School
and all had jobs so once Hansford suggested it Jagger and I agreed to go out with him. We ended
up leaving Thanksgiving dinner at about 8 and getting to Best Buy shortly after because the store
opened at 12 a.m. that night. We sat out in the cold talked and joked for about 4 hours to only get
in the store and Hansford decide he did not want the speaker anymore. Since that year I have been
out for Black Fridayeven though two of the years I worked at Champs Sports for them. Now Black
Friday is not even Black Friday its more so Black Thanksgiving Shopping. This year I decided to
spend Thanksgiving in Ohio with my in laws where I did not really know the area or what to

the line because the doors opened at 5 p.m. So, I decided to go across the street to a target where a

Billie Holiday Strange Fruit Meaning
It s nearly impossible to overstate the significance of Strange Fruit , as its influence is still felt
today. Despite popular belief, the song was not written or composed by Billie Holiday, but by
Lewis Allan. It first started as a poem and then was later put to music. Abel Meeropol, pen name
Lewis Allan, was a high school English teacher at DeWitt Clinton who was involved in progressive
activism, communism, and the teachers union. He wrote many poems and songs, yet Strange Fruit
was his proudest (and most famous) achievement and for good reason. Published in 1937, the poem
was Meeropol s response to witnessing a photograph of the lynching of Thomas Sharp and Abram
Smith.
There is something to be said about the empathy between oppressed people. A Jewish American
white man wrote this protest song and was able to hand it off to an African American woman,
Billie Holiday. The film indicates that this Jewish composer and black artist relationship was vital
to Jazz at the time, yet none beforehand produced such weight as Strange Fruit did. This was a
shocking song, born from grotesque events, and it eventually sparked activism, becoming the
anthem for the anti lynching movement.
At first, Billie Holiday was actually reluctant to sing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

depersonalizes lynching victims, the same way a lynch mob would, by depicting them as strange

which could be seen as a metaphor for the United States itself. America was built upon the slavery
of Africans, their blood, sweat, and even lives. This unjust sacrifice was the very foundation of
economic growth for the South, as in the bloody roots that supply and support the tree. Alone the

Fortune In Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare often uses other worldly themes and powers in his works. One of the most
prominent ones is his use of fate, or fortune as it is more often referred to as. In Romeo and
Juliet, Shakespeare alludes to the role that fate plays in the story of this pair of star cross d lovers
(Rom. Prologue 6). Shakespeare s opening line in the prologue states from the beginning that fate
will be playing a pivotal position in this work. Shakespeare s other plays, such as Julius Caesar,
Macbeth, Hamlet, and King Lear all makes hints to the role that fortune plays throughout these
character s journeys. The role of fortune is often illustrated as Fortuna, goddess of fortune.

An Alien On Earth And Hunted Humans
Question One: If an alien race landed on Earth and hunted humans, we would need many
different protection methods. The five methods I think would benefit humans the most in an
alien invasion would be: venom, speed, webbed feet, strong claws, and strong jaws. Venom
would be very important for my protection because I would rather kill the aliens, instead of
avoiding them. In order to inject venom into the aliens, humans would need to have sharper
teeth. I would sneak up on an alien and bite them. This could immobilize the alien once the
venom affects them. Two animals that utilize venom are spiders and snakes. Speed would be
another important protection method because if a group of aliens were chasing you, they
would not be able to keep up with your incredible speed. If you were traveling in a large group,
you could all go separate directions and confuse the aliens. They would not be able to keep track
of everyone or even be able to catch up to any human. This would also include the speed of
climbing things, such as trees and mountains. Two animals that utilize this method of protection
are the cobra and the rattlesnake. Webbed feet would also be an important protection method for
humans if they were being hunted by aliens. Webbed feet are helpful for swimming and would
allow humans to swim quickly away from the predators. Webbed feet would make our feet look a
lot different than they do now. We would walk differently with webbed feet, but would swim very

Health, Education, And Women
Raisa Feliz and Emmett Rafferty Interim Report #3 Health, Education and Women
Over the past few decades Brazil has made major improvements to its healthcare system. Before
1988, half of Brazil s population did not have health care coverage (World Health Organization).
This changed when Brazil implemented Unified Health System (Sistema Гљnico de SaГєde) which
provided universal free healthcare coverage for its citizens. Since its enactment, 75% of Brazil s
population now rely on Sistema Гљnico de SaГєde (SUS) as their sole provider of health coverage,
making it the largest public health system in the world (World Health Organization). SUS receives
its funding primarily through federal and local taxation totaling $208 billion (Deliotte).
However, this large amount of spending is not reflected in the quality of healthcare provided to
Brazilians. Brazil has an estimated 2.5 hospital beds per 1,000 citizens and the beds are of bad
quality and are poorly distributed (Deliotte). Brazil s Federal Medical Council conducted a
survey that showed 93% of Brazilians considered the healthcare systems to be either very bad or
mediocre (Deliotte). While more Brazilians have access to healthcare than ever before, the quality
of care does not meet the requirements that would allow the system to be truly effective. Despite its
operational healthcare inefficiencies, Brazil s life expectancy has been rapidly increasing since
SUS s implementation, as shown in Figure 1.

Madonna And Virgin And Child Essay
The Medieval Ages marked thirteenth century Europe, but steady progression towards the
fourteenth century showed a contrasting image of the world. The Renaissance movement slowly
overshadowed the Gothic and Italo Byzantine characteristics that dominated Medieval Europe in
favor of the resurgence of classical antiquity. Late fourteenth to early fifteenth century artwork
exemplified the development of Greco Roman naturalism the increased piety of Italians evident on
the heavy demand for devotional images, and the expanding consciousness of philosophical and
scholastic abstractions relating to the natural world. Likewise, the Master of Straus Madonnas

The frames of both paintings are gold and ornate, but more importantly, both have the same
phrases engraved below the painting. Ave Maria Gratia Plena are the words of Catholic devotional
prayer typically spoken with rosary beads, and directed towards the Virgin Mary. Personal
devotions became an increasingly common practice during the late 1340 s, following the
proliferation of the Black Death especially within populated Italian cities (Gardner, p.406).
Responding to the growing fervor for the Bible, artists receive many commissions to conceive
biblical legends into reality. The Madonna and Christ child in both Strauss Madonna and Virgin
and Child convey an allegorical and symbolistic representation of Resurrection: the parallel of the
sacrifice of the Christ s body to the suffering of humans. Jesus Christ s suffering through
crucifiction and physical worldly suffering. Despite the celestial backgrounds and striking halos,
Master of Straus Madonna and Romano illustrates these venerated idols as humans. Tale dictates
that a goldfinch received a red spot from the blood of Jesus after pulling a thorn from his head as
he approached closer to the time of his crucifixion. The goldfinch held by infant Christ serves as a
reminder that God lived as a man and died as a man, and a consolation to the audience that
suffering and death will lead to human

The Federal Government Should Have Greater Authority On...
This paper will discuss the prevailing Canadian debate of whether the federal government should
have greater authority on administering health care. Essentially, Canada s health care program
referred to as Medicare, is administered by the provinces while regulated by the federal government
through the Canada Health Actof 1984. One side of the debate, using the political theory of
pluralism, argues against federal leadership and instead emphasizes for provincial authority on
matters of health care since Canadais inherently composed of individuals with differing interests
and values. Through a decentralized framework, each province will be able to implement efficient
health services that will meet the demands of its citizens. Their... Show more content on

The political elites also acknowledged that it would be in their best interests to respond to group
demands. Barker s second contention states that provinces can provide the best quality health care
according to their demographics and socioeconomic factors. For example, Saskatchewan primarily
utilizes its federal grants for a community based approach of providing health care such
rehabilitation services while Ontario primarily invests in effective hospital care. Through a
pluralist approach, Barker argues that various interest groups exist that want to play a role in the
decision making of national programs to meet their own needs and therefore diversities can be best
accommodated when provinces lead social programs.
However, an institutionalist approach can critique the pluralist contentions made by Barker.
Regarding his legal contention, it can be argued that the distribution of power on health care
depicted in the constitution is outdated since there were vast divisions between English and French
physicians as well as differing health and religious practices during the 1800s. Due to the divisions,
it was resolved that the provinces would administer public policies regarding

The Historical Values Of Ubuntu
The argument here that exists is that Ubuntu has no historic significance or cultural value. Its
source and origin cannot be identified as it is still believed to be a discourse that was just
invented for the sake of it. This is why many critics have gone to great lengths to comment that this
terminology is empty and does not have any concrete relevance or even origination and should be
discarded instead of being commercialized or made popular. The societies that practiced Ubuntu
cannot be found either which further weaken the position of this term and its emergence as a value.
However, I believe that Ubuntu should not be discarded only because it has no historic value or
origin because even without these fundamental aspects the term and concept has emerged as a
universal African humanist value. When Africans could not oppose the colonialism, they clung to
Ubuntu as a critique and this ideology has been with them in ... Show more content on

This can be seen by the fact that humanism believes staunchly in predestination and that the fate of
a person is sealed which cannot be changed in the course of a lifetime. Whereas, the Muslim phase
of humanism provides a more logical approach which suggests that the concept of predestination
does exist but it can be changed through efforts. This approach is not only more logical but also
more rational in terms of its existence. It has been said by the Muslim phase of humanism that men
are distinct creatures, separate from the rest of Creation, due to the fact that God gave them an

that the concept of humanism is flawed and man has power over their actions because of which

The Pursuit Of Freedom And Justice There Was A Hurricane
In the Pursuit of Freedom and Justice there was a Hurricane
In times of national discontent and social injustice, music is one of the leading forms of rebellion
and storytelling. In 1975, Bob Dylan contributed to this rebellious storytelling narrative by creating
Hurricane a song about the wrongful imprisonment of middleweight fighter Rubin Hurricane
Carter. There is a common idea that the issues we face do not have the same magnitude the issues
our predecessors faced. By assuming this idea, the implications of similar issues are ignored. The
importance of this comparison relies on the magnitude of their influence. Their songs enlightened a
variety of people about the daily dealings of corruption within our nation and enforced the need to
fight for one another when the system proved treat the members of the society unfairly. The song
Freedom by BeyoncГ© Knowles Carter created in 2016 discusses current struggles that African
Americans are facing by being reduced to stereotypes that prevent unity and fairness and even
includes a verse performed by rapper Kendrick Lamar specifying instances of racial tension that
have affected him. Though both songs are written about wrongful imprisonment the purpose of
their songs, the intended audience, and the use of expression differ. The contrast between the songs
only elevate the notion that no two issues are exactly alike. After each song was created the
awareness of wrongful imprisonment has accounted to the fight for justice

Immunotherapeutic Strategies
Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by a wide range of viruses. The most common viruses are:
HIV 1, HSV 1/2, and HPV. Often the contraction of these viruses goes undiagnosed until the patient
has acquired severe symptoms, by this time they have also transferred the disease to another
individual. For this reason, the importance of developing and understanding immunotherapeutic
strategies has become essential for immunologists (5). There are many factors that contribute to
viral infection, therefore, targeting these virus specific factors is a key to preventing viral spread to
neighboring cells. Factors like viral attachment, entry, un coating, synthesis, assembly, and... Show

Cytokine therapy has been a crucial advance in the treatment of HIV because this disease is highly
affiliated with cytokine production. Cytokines are inserted in tumor cells as immune stimulatory
genes (5). Following insertion, the patient is injected with a cytokine based vaccine which is used
as a therapeutic measure for cancer prevention in patients that have HPV. Activation of cytokines
(IL 2, IL 12, GM CSF) have been theorized to inhibit the growth on tumors. HIV is linked to a
decline of the host s immune system response and decrease of CD4 T cells, therefore cytokine
therapy enables the production of these cells by treating patients with IL 2 (5). HPV has been
associated with cancer and there is no cure for HPV, however, there are preventative and therapeutic
medications (2,6). In the case of HPV vaccination, natural killer cells are activated which induce an
immune response. Immune modulators have suppressive and stimulatory effects on macrophages.
Stimulation allows for the secretion of cytokines which allows the immune system to produce
antibodies due to the high antigen presentation in dendritic cells.
Although these viruses often remain undetected, HSV typically causes a more visible and painful
reaction in the infected tissues. Shedding of the HSV virus is prominent when the symptoms occur

Teachers Students And The Learning Environment
Teachers conducting action research in there class Action research is a means through which an
educator stays informed of the on going trends in education with specific interest in individual
content areas or classroom management techniques. Teachers need to understand these trends to
better serve the students. By participating in these research activities, teachers embrace change in
pedagogical strategies and learn how to best understand their students and the learning environment.
These in turn opens avenues for differentiated instruction. Differentiated instruction is a teaching
strategy that varies teaching techniques depending on individual student needs to meet the student
at their points of need. Meeting students at their points of need and teaching them required content
based using the most appropriate method should be the sole purpose for every educator. Therefore,
teachers should conduct action research in their own classrooms to be better educators. Action
research in classrooms can also yield new teaching and testing strategies. Action research project

The Is The Best For The Human Condition
Transhumanism For years, scientists and transhumanists have conceptualized and cultivated ways
and processes which they believe are beneficial to human life. Transhumanists want the best for the
human condition by improvements of medical technology, economics, medicine, culture, and
mental capacities. There are copious amounts of prototypes and ideas that are currently pushing the
movement forward and giving hope to those involved. Though naysayers hold the opinion that
transhumanismwill separate humans into two or more distinct species, that is not the intended goal.
In fact, the intentions are to bring us together, rid us of the illness and disease that riddle the human
body, and create a near perfect world. Nick Bostrom, a professor of philosophy at the University of
Oxford and an outspoken member of the transhumanist movement, introduces an approach that very
well summarizes the ambition of the research of transhumanism, ...to radically extend increased
funding for healthy lifespan and favor the development of medical and technological means to
improve memory, concentration, and other human capacities. (Bostrom 202 214). Some argue that
transhumanists are overstepping their moral and ethical boundaries by assuming the role of a
higher power. In any case, the ambitions of transhumanists are to create a better world, one without
the stressors we experience today. Though the intent of transhumanism is positive, there is a
downside. Scientists and transhumanists main

  • 2. Individualism In The House On Mango Street Let your home be your mast and not your anchor, said Kahlil Gibran, exposing the unneeded focus on materialism to keep people in a harsh cycle of poverty. Expressing an idea that materialistic should not force stigma and should show individualism, Gibran provides insight into the bullying through goods. In this way, he relates to Cisneros s ideas through the usage of a house as a metaphor for good created feelings of shame. In Sandra Cisneros s House on Mango Street, Esperanza s contesting views on her impoverished house demonstrate that she accepts her role in poverty, one of being left helpless and exploited by callous bullies and one of shamed individualism. During one of Esperanza s wishful daydreams, she delineates what she wants to own, saying, A house all to my own. With my porch and my pillow (Cisneros 43). Perpetuating my , Esperanza shows that she wants her house to show that she is an individual who is not to be shamed by what she lives in. This image of individualism is expanded through the stress on own . In a similar fashion, while thinking about foreign neighborhoods, Esperanza thinks, All brown all around, we are safe. But watch us drive into a neighborhood of another color and our knees go shakity shake and our car windows get rolled up tight and our eyes look straight . Esperanza shows that she feels safe when there is all brown all around , further emphasizing her point of being an individual. The usage of the home in this case represents a flaw of Esperanza and how it is bad to be in a different home than her. Later, Cisneros utilizes Esperanza s fantasy of her aspiration to own her house, One day I ll own my own house, but I won t forget who I am or where I came from. Passing bums will ask, Can I come in? I ll offer them the attic, ask them to stay, because I know how it is to be without a house . Her house acts as a compassionate being, such as her dream is to be. Biodiesel Synthesis Lab Report Leah Romero 04/30/2018 Lab 13 Chem. 102L In lab 13, synthesis of biodiesel, the main purpose was to test for the presence of contaminants like soap, and to determine the purity of the sample. This was done by performing a transesterification of vegetable oil when a solid catalyst is present in order to produce biodiesel. In the lab procedure the outcomes that were observed were biodiesel being synthesized using a solid state catalyst, biodiesel being tested for quality, and being able to explain the synthesis pathway for biodiesel. • 4. The Testament Of The Bible Essay Like many individuals in today s world, not many of us actually know of the true accounts conveyed to us by means of the Bible. Being able to decipher the Bible, in its own way is a task in itself. Growing up as a young child, I had attended church with my grandfather, but back then I was not really exposed to the Bible, as I have been exposed to it by taking this course. The purpose of this assignment, is to research Mosesand the Passover in Exodus 10 15 of the Old Testamentin the Hebrew Bible. By using various resources such as commentaries, dictionaries, and the Bible itself has helped me grasp a better knowledge of Moses and the role that he played within the Bible, as well as the story of Passover. I always knew that Moses was considered to be an important figure within the Bible. But, I never knew exactly how significant he truly remained. Since enrolling in this religion course, I have learned background information, that I never knew previously. The text studied within this course was a brief introduction to the Old Testament discussing the Hebrew Bible in its context. The Old Testament integrates the scared writings of the Jewish belief, that are all inscribed at different periods of time from anywhere around 1200 to 165 BC. The Old Testament positions the foundations for the education and proceedings that transpire in the New Testament. • 8. Advertisement Analysis Of An Advertisement There are many things that go in to make an advertisement successful for the audience. In 2014, a photography blogger, Johnny Baker, posted a set of four photos stating that smoking dulls your senses. The ad is successful because of the use of how simple and plain the photos are but also explaining the true facts and how dangerous and expensive smokingis. To understand the purpose of this print advertisement, you must understand why Baker created these. He states, I created still life scenes that represented certain facts about smoking, these facts were chosen as they would be off putting to new smokers and people that smoke already. (baker)I feel the ad appeals more towards women than men but also relates a little to everyone because it talks about the effects that smoking has during a pregnancy and how smoking can cause your skin to wrinkle and age faster. This is important because pregnancy is wanted for most women and smoking can cause serious affect to fertility. Also, men do not care as much about wrinkles like women. All four of the photos are items, but what makes the message so powerful is Baker creates them with cardboard. He says he did this to make it eye catching and to replicate the color of the addictiveness, which is nicotine. The first picture to appear, appeals to everyone because everybody needs food to survive. It shows a drink, a hamburger and some fries, but all made from cardboard. Throughout history the term rights of passage has been used to describe the transition of a person into a new stage of their lives. Rites of passage are relevant in every day life all over the world. Most prominently though, Africa has a large population of people whose groups still practice traditional rites of passageto mark special life achievements. Basically, anything meaningful that happens within their tribe such as the birth of a child, the entrance into adulthood, marriage, death, and so on, are all celebrated with the completion of different customs. The celebration of rituals include dances, songs, and other formalities, however groups across the continent also use varying methods of initiationthat most commonly include circumcision in both sexes. For decades, people have questioned whether or not this traditional initiation ritual is necessary and if it could possibly be harmful to young people within certain tribes that practice them. Much controversy surrounds the issue of following tradition even while performing procedures such as female mutilation. How are these rites of passage viewed as beneficial and how are they seen as destructive? What are some alternative rites of passage for these young initiates? Citizen journalism heavily influence quote approval since many politicians have misspoke when speaking off the cuff with citizens and damaged their public image. Quote approval is used to assure that these situations do not occur and hurt polling numbers, but quote approval could be considered to be breaking the ethical news values of accuracy and community (Patterson Wilkins, 2014, pp. 35 36). Conclusion In conclusion, quote approval can blur the lines between ethical and unethical journalism depending on the degree of alteration to a quote. Altering quotes can be ethical if it only makes the quote more concise and easy to understand, but there is a fine line between altering for readability and altering the meaning. Thus, the demand remains high as it reaches a point where the supply can no longer meet the demand, inflation occurs. However, at the same time, when unemployment is high, workers are unable to ask for better wages. This means that prices can fall, since businesses are not having to pay their employees better wages. Therefore, in many cases, when there is low unemployment, there is high inflation and vice versa. It has been observed that there was a stable and inverse relationship between rate of inflation and the rate of unemployment in an economy. In other words, a lower unemployment rate could be had by tolerating a higher rate of inflation. However, since the simultaneous occurrence of high inflation and high unemployment in the United States and other countries during the 1970s, there has been general agreement that this econometric relationship is unstable. Indeed, the instability has been so great that Lucas and Sargent characterized it as econometric failure on a grand scale. Champion Georgia Northwestern Technical College Introductory Microbiology Curtis Wright November 22, 2016 Tetanus Tetanus is an infection caused by the Clostridium tetani bacteria, also written C. tetani. The C. tatani bacterium is gram positive and shaped like a slender rod, once it has developed a terminal spore it may resemble a drumstick (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015). The actual bacteria are heat sensitive and cannot survive when there is oxygen present, the spores on the other hand are very heat resistant and can survive the presence of oxygen (CDC, 2015). Cases of tetanus continue to shrink in the United States and other developed countries thanks to the availability of the tetanus vaccination; however, in underdeveloped countries tetanus is still a major problem. General Positivism And The Interpretive Paradigm Part 1: Purpose a)Social Science Research Paradigm The social science paradigm also known as Post positivism consists of testing hypothesis and research questions that are developed through reasoning. This is done through measurements and observation. Social scientists aspire to science and they seek to study human behaviour, interaction and thought in an organized way; which we can then measure, generalize and replicate. Like any research, post positivism needs to be backed up by evidence. When a social science research sets out a research project, it is their goal to find evidence that can either agree or disagree with the hypothesis or theories. Post positivism, compared to positivism allows more interaction with the participants of the research project and seeks to highlight the relationship between universal properties between the variables. The best way to understand post positivism is by comparing it to positivism and the interpretive paradigm. Compared to positivism, post positivism is more tolerant for value based information, however is not focused on qualitative information like the interpretive paradigm, instead the research is mainly focused on quantitative data. b) Literature Review Students are now busier than ever, according to the survey conducted by the New Zealand Union of Students Association, 63% of students are working while at university, with an average of 25 hours a week (2010), this causes clashes when it comes to arranging physical group ... Abel Meeropol, pen name Lewis Allan, was a high school English teacher at DeWitt Clinton who was involved in progressive activism, communism, and the teachers union. He wrote many poems and songs, yet Strange Fruit was his proudest (and most famous) achievement and for good reason. Published in 1937, the poem was Meeropol s response to witnessing a photograph of the lynching of Thomas Sharp and Abram Smith. There is something to be said about the empathy between oppressed people. A Jewish American white man wrote this protest song and was able to hand it off to an African American woman, Billie Holiday. The film indicates that this Jewish composer and black artist relationship was vital to Jazz at the time, yet none beforehand produced such weight as Strange Fruit did. This was a shocking song, born from grotesque events, and it eventually sparked activism, becoming the anthem for the anti lynching movement. At first, Billie Holiday was actually reluctant to sing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its words describe the aftermath of such a hanging, with imagery dark and vivid. The text depersonalizes lynching victims, the same way a lynch mob would, by depicting them as strange fruit, hanging from a poplar tree. Meeropol continues by describing blood on the leaves and roots, which could be seen as a metaphor for the United States itself. America was built upon the slavery of Africans, their blood, sweat, and even lives. This unjust sacrifice was the very foundation of economic growth for the South, as in the bloody roots that supply and support the tree. Alone the poem provides a haunting ... One of the most prominent ones is his use of fate, or fortune as it is more often referred to as. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare alludes to the role that fate plays in the story of this pair of star cross d lovers (Rom. Prologue 6). Shakespeare s opening line in the prologue states from the beginning that fate will be playing a pivotal position in this work. There are six such references (Soellner 275). Three times uses this concept three times in King Lear. • 32. An Alien On Earth And Hunted Humans Question One: If an alien race landed on Earth and hunted humans, we would need many different protection methods. The five methods I think would benefit humans the most in an alien invasion would be: venom, speed, webbed feet, strong claws, and strong jaws. Venom would be very important for my protection because I would rather kill the aliens, instead of avoiding them. In order to inject venom into the aliens, humans would need to have sharper teeth. I would sneak up on an alien and bite them. This could immobilize the alien once the venom affects them. Two animals that utilize venom are spiders and snakes. Speed would be another important protection method because if a group of aliens were chasing you, they would not be able to keep up with your incredible speed. If you were traveling in a large group, you could all go separate directions and confuse the aliens. They would not be able to keep track of everyone or even be able to catch up to any human. This would also include the speed of climbing things, such as trees and mountains. Two animals that utilize this method of protection are the cobra and the rattlesnake. Webbed feet would also be an important protection method for humans if they were being hunted by aliens. Webbed feet are helpful for swimming and would allow humans to swim quickly away from the predators. Webbed feet would make our feet look a lot different than they do now. We would walk differently with webbed feet, but would swim very fast. I am a slow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Health, Education, And Women Raisa Feliz and Emmett Rafferty Interim Report #3 Health, Education and Women Over the past few decades Brazil has made major improvements to its healthcare system. Before 1988, half of Brazil s population did not have health care coverage (World Health Organization). This changed when Brazil implemented Unified Health System (Sistema Гљnico de SaГєde) which provided universal free healthcare coverage for its citizens. Since its enactment, 75% of Brazil s population now rely on Sistema Гљnico de SaГєde (SUS) as their sole provider of health coverage, making it the largest public health system in the world (World Health Organization). SUS receives its funding primarily through federal and local taxation totaling $208 billion (Deliotte). However, this large amount of spending is not reflected in the quality of healthcare provided to Brazilians. Brazil has an estimated 2.5 hospital beds per 1,000 citizens and the beds are of bad quality and are poorly distributed (Deliotte). Brazil s Federal Medical Council conducted a survey that showed 93% of Brazilians considered the healthcare systems to be either very bad or mediocre (Deliotte). While more Brazilians have access to healthcare than ever before, the quality of care does not meet the requirements that would allow the system to be truly effective. Despite its operational healthcare inefficiencies, Brazil s life expectancy has been rapidly increasing since SUS s implementation, as shown in Figure 1. Source: World Bank A ... The Renaissance movement slowly overshadowed the Gothic and Italo Byzantine characteristics that dominated Medieval Europe in favor of the resurgence of classical antiquity. The Madonna and Christ child in both Strauss Madonna and Virgin and Child convey an allegorical and symbolistic representation of Resurrection: the parallel of the sacrifice of the Christ s body to the suffering of humans. Jesus Christ s suffering through crucifiction and physical worldly suffering. Despite the celestial backgrounds and striking halos, Master of Straus Madonna and Romano illustrates these venerated idols as humans. This paper will discuss the prevailing Canadian debate of whether the federal government should have greater authority on administering health care. Essentially, Canada s health care program referred to as Medicare, is administered by the provinces while regulated by the federal government through the Canada Health Actof 1984. One side of the debate, using the political theory of pluralism, argues against federal leadership and instead emphasizes for provincial authority on matters of health care since Canadais inherently composed of individuals with differing interests and values. The political elites also acknowledged that it would be in their best interests to respond to group demands. Barker s second contention states that provinces can provide the best quality health care according to their demographics and socioeconomic factors. For example, Saskatchewan primarily utilizes its federal grants for a community based approach of providing health care such rehabilitation services while Ontario primarily invests in effective hospital care. Through a pluralist approach, Barker argues that various interest groups exist that want to play a role in the decision making of national programs to meet their own needs and therefore diversities can be best accommodated when provinces lead social programs. However, an institutionalist approach can critique the pluralist contentions made by Barker. Regarding his legal contention, it can be argued that the distribution of power on health care depicted in the constitution is outdated since there were vast divisions between English and French physicians as well as differing health and religious practices during the 1800s. Due to the divisions, it was resolved that the provinces would administer public policies regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pursuit Of Freedom And Justice There Was A Hurricane In the Pursuit of Freedom and Justice there was a Hurricane In times of national discontent and social injustice, music is one of the leading forms of rebellion and storytelling. In 1975, Bob Dylan contributed to this rebellious storytelling narrative by creating Hurricane a song about the wrongful imprisonment of middleweight fighter Rubin Hurricane Carter. There is a common idea that the issues we face do not have the same magnitude the issues our predecessors faced. By assuming this idea, the implications of similar issues are ignored. The importance of this comparison relies on the magnitude of their influence. Their songs enlightened a variety of people about the daily dealings of corruption within our nation and enforced the need to fight for one another when the system proved treat the members of the society unfairly. The song Freedom by BeyoncГ© Knowles Carter created in 2016 discusses current struggles that African Americans are facing by being reduced to stereotypes that prevent unity and fairness and even includes a verse performed by rapper Kendrick Lamar specifying instances of racial tension that have affected him. Darleene Rodriguez Bio 416 08 May 2017 Immunotherapeutic Strategies Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by a wide range of viruses. The most common viruses are: HIV 1, HSV 1/2, and HPV. Often the contraction of these viruses goes undiagnosed until the patient has acquired severe symptoms, by this time they have also transferred the disease to another individual. For this reason, the importance of developing and understanding immunotherapeutic strategies has become essential for immunologists (5). There are many factors that contribute to viral infection, therefore, targeting these virus specific factors is a key to preventing viral spread to neighboring cells. Cytokine therapy has been a crucial advance in the treatment of HIV because this disease is highly affiliated with cytokine production. Cytokines are inserted in tumor cells as immune stimulatory genes (5). Following insertion, the patient is injected with a cytokine based vaccine which is used as a therapeutic measure for cancer prevention in patients that have HPV. Activation of cytokines (IL 2, IL 12, GM CSF) have been theorized to inhibit the growth on tumors. HIV is linked to a decline of the host s immune system response and decrease of CD4 T cells, therefore cytokine therapy enables the production of these cells by treating patients with IL 2 (5). HPV has been associated with cancer and there is no cure for HPV, however, there are preventative and therapeutic medications (2,6). In the case of HPV vaccination, natural killer cells are activated which induce an immune response. Immune modulators have suppressive and stimulatory effects on macrophages. Stimulation allows for the secretion of cytokines which allows the immune system to produce antibodies due to the high antigen presentation in dendritic cells.
