The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale by the Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen. The tale is
about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a merperson to gain a
human soul and the love of a human prince. The tale was first published in 1837 and has been adapted
to various media including musical theater and animated film. The standard of this classical story has
been set to be the Disney Movie titled the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But to gain legs, she must give up her most precious asset, her beautiful voice. There are some
standard elements of teenage life here, including young love, and some degree of rebellion from ones
parents, in this case King Triton, Ariel s father. It was not Ariel s physical beauty that the Prince loved,
but her voice. He is enraptured by the voice even in the presence of Ariel s physical beauty and great
legs. The metaphor here should be obvious. What does a woman lose when she becomes subservient
to a man, or male dominated culture in general? She loses her voice. The point of the movie is that a
young woman s beauty should come not from her physical attributes, but from her voice, her
personality, her self. Metaphorically, without her voice in society, she is pretty helpless and powerless
to change what s going on around her, explain herself, etc. As for the prince he isn t interested in Ariel
just for her looks. It is also important to note that she gets her reward only after working together with
her father, King Triton.
In the original version The Little Mermaid, longing for the prince and an eternal soul, eventually visits
the Sea Witch, who sells her a potion that gives her legs, in exchange for her tongue. The Sea Witch
cuts her tongue and warns her that once she becomes a human, she will never be able to return to the
sea. Drinking the potion made out of snakes and

Language And Interpretation In A Midsummer Night s Dream
A Midsummer s Night Dream is a story of requited and unrequited love between two couples,
conventions existing within society, supernatural enchantment and features a play within a play. The
extract from Act III, Scene 1 is of pivotal importance. It is the first oie themes, symbolismccurrence of
two character types converging; namely the Queen of Fairies Titania and Bottom, a weaver and
performer. The use of distinct language techniques, diction, and contextual relationships expands on
themes and symbolism introduced in earlier scenes, and which are prevalent throughout the play.

Bottom s ignorance of having his head transformed into an ass s by Puck balances mischief against
Oberon s malicious intent. In the lines leading up to the extract, there is ample opportunity for the
audience to laugh at the antics on stage, but for the purpose of the extract, negative aspects of love are
present, and there is little comedic value. Atmosphere and tone is important when considering
performance possibilities, and can be enhanced by setting or scenery, light, sound effects and music. If
considering a live performance, the type of venue should also be considered, and whether the text
should be performed in the open air, a traditional theatre or a playhouse styled venue. The delivery of
the lines, whether in verse or prose should aid the audience s understanding of the language, and if
there is the potential for the meaning to be unclear, expressive acting and actions may counter any
confusion. In the extract, Bottom is given four fairies to attend to him. Their names are
Peasseblossom, Cobweb, Mote and Mustardseed! (Line 144). The audience may be unaware these
fairies have been named after plants of herbal remedy, and although Shakespeare provides
clarification of this point, the performer s delivery of the lines, through the spoken words or through
acting, should allow the audience to make that connection. Shakespeare often includes stage

The Role Of Genocide In Rwanda
In April of 1994, a terrible atrocity began in the African country of Rwanda where around eight
hundred thousand individuals were massacred over a time period of 100 brutal days. If thought about
in mathematical terms, this works out to about 333 deaths per hour; which is a rate of deaths worse
than what occurred during the Holocaust. (2) The term genocide is defined in the United Nations
Genocide Convention, established in 1948, as any of the following acts committed with the intent to
destroy in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: a) killing members of
the group; b) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; c) deliberately inflicting

This becomes incredibly apparent surround the cable sent by the Canadian General Roméo Dallaire
who was leading the UNAMIR mission on January 11th. It was sent directly to the office of Kofi
Annan, and contained information about a meeting between a UNAMIR official and a Hutu informant
who that a genocide was incredibly imminent and gave the location of a major weapons cache of the
Interhamwe, the military of the Hutu government, as he did not agree with what was about to take
place and was willing to share this information in exchange for protection. (8) The Secretariat receive
this report a full three months before the genocide occurred and were fully aware of what might
happen should no action be taken, but the information never made it to the security council. (8)
Although some countries, especially those in the P5 were well aware of what was occurring, many
other member states relied purely on the information provided and therefore had no idea that a
genocide could occur in the small African nation.

Nonconformity In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
It is all too common in today s society to follow the accepted standards rather than promote one s own
ideas. Even those who disagree with this mentality often do not make their ideas known for fear of
backlash. Ayn Rand presents Howard Roark as an incorruptible individual unafraid of disagreement
within her novel The Fountainhead. Roark and his creator share the same ideals: individuality,
nonconformity, and the individual pursuit of happiness. Roark s motives are simply to seek his own
satisfaction without interfering with the contentment of others, and he never falters in his drive to
achieve his ultimate desires. His behavior wholly reflects this outlook, making him the perfect
ambassador for Rand s philosophy. Because of this, Howard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He realizes that in order to understand a situation objectively, he must confront it honestly and purely.
Doing this promotes his well being because facing situations in this manner helps him gain an
insightful perspective, which gives him an advantage over those who do not understand the whole
picture. Ellsworth Toohey, for example, encourages others to abandon independent thought in favor of
a twisted sense of selflessness designed to turn them into drones feeding off the speculation of others.
While talking to his niece, Toohey declares that consciously focusing on one s own emotions makes a
person become selfish and egotistical. He explains, That is why the mind is so unreliable. We must not
think. We must believe (365). Essentially, Toohey preaches that people must abandon free thought
because it causes them to dwell on their own emotions, which makes them egotistical. However,
ignoring free thought requires that one ignore the truth. Roark, on the other hand, believes that one
must not reject his own emotions so that he may find the truth and reach his or her goals, as long as
those goals do not interfere with the well being of another. In this sense, Toohey and Roark uphold
two totally opposing ideas, further establishing a contrast between the two

Treatment Of Sickle Cell Anemia Essay
Treatment Sickle Cell Anemia is a group of disorders that cause red blood cells to become misshapen
and break down. Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States,
affecting 70,000 to 80,000 Americans (Ashley Koch, Yang and Olney). Sickle Cell Anemia causes
your red blood cells to be thin, stiff, and shaped like a sickle. But your red blood cells are supposed to
be round and soft. A person that is diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, their blood cells start to become
clogged, causing blood clots, which can cause a great amount of health issues including: infections,
stroke, and acute chest syndrome. People get sickle cell anemia by inheriting a mutated gene from
both of their parents. On the down side, there is not currently an effective cure for sickle cell anemia,
there are several different therapeutic approaches to treating and attempting to cure the disease and
help people who are affected with sickle cell anemia better manage their symptoms. There have also
been several great scientists that dedicated a lot of research to help find a cure for sickle cell anemia.
Epidemiology and Genetics Sickle Cell Anemia is a disease that affects how oxygen is carried
throughout the body by blood. Specifically, sickle cell anemia is characterized by a change in the
shape of red blood cells from a smooth donut shape to a crescent or sickled shape, almost the same
shape as a crescent moon. The sickled cells are very long and stiff, so sometimes

A Vindication Of The Rights Of Women By Mary Wollstonecraft
I have a profound conviction that women are rendered weak and wretched, especially by a false
system of education, gathered from books written by men who have been more anxious to make
women alluring mistresses than rational wives. (Mary Wollstonecraft. A Vindication of the Rights of
Woman.) Mary Wollstonecraft s main argument was to denounce the unfair treatment that many
women had to endure since the moment of their birth being object of segregation from mainly men
and all of society as they were viewed as only trophies to accompany men and to be stay at home
mothers. We can consider Wollstonecraft to be a pioneer of feminism this book being a response to
Jean Jacques Rousseau s Declaration of the Rights of Men and of Citizens where he clearly excludes
women.
Having been a victim of the same segregation is what maked Wollstonecraft so passionate about this
subject. These writings are a reflection of the conditions of her own life having had a hard upbringing,
being abused by her father and sustaining hard situations in an unfortunate life. More than an gender
feminism she worked towards equal opportunity as a result of living in a society that did not offer that.
Wollstonecraft mainly writes a controversy and presents a resistance towards the works of other
authors, those being men. She addresses her ideas to those contrary of men who thought that a woman
should not be educated and if so only a domestic education as did M. Talleyrand Perigord who she

Chinese American Transnationalism
This paper is a brief reaction to a scholarly article in Airriess Text entitled Chinese American
Transnational Migration and Connections. This article is located in chapter 11 of Airriess text
Contemporary Ethnic Geographies in America, on pages 263 through 283. The text begins by
explaining that transnationalism is a reinterpretation of immigration, and natural to Chinese Americans
from birth. The first mechanism of transnationalism is called an astronaut family, and it means that
family members reside in different countries across the world. Another common mechanism of
transnationalism is called parachute kids. This title is used to describe the situation where both parents

purposes. After higher education, many Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Children in the 19th Century Essay
Children in the nineteenth century were usually faced with poverty and lived in the urban slums.
Progressive reformers, who were generally people from small towns who later lived in cities, focused
primarily on these children and their problems. The goals of the reformers were to change the meaning
of childhood and help people understand how children should really be treated.
A child growing up in the nineteenth century was expected to live an adult life by an early age. In the
colonial period in America, once children became toddlers they were considered as miniature adults in
the making. (Twenty First Annual Report 1901) They would do chores and labor even at the age of
six. Some would enter the work force and be exposed to harmful ... Show more content on

The two women were passionate about their work and strived to get the information on healthy
childhoods out to mothers in order to restore the meaning of childhood. Not only did it help mothers
better understand how to handle their situations, but also decreased the infant mortality rate. The
progressive reformers analyzed that parents provided poor diets for their children causing malnutrition
and diarrhea. This was a huge cause to the death of infants and toddlers. The Bureau hoped to educate
families to weaken the child mortality rate and hopefully create a better understanding of how a child
should be raised.
The reformers were very successful in many ways. The advice they gave out to mothers helped save
man y children and help define a healthy childhood. For example, one response of the Children s
Bureau was, the infant is especially sensitive to uncleanliness. (Ladd Taylor 1986) This made it clear
to mothers that the child must be exposed to a clean and healthy environment in order to prevent
diseases or sicknesses from arising. Not only the clothing of the child should be clean, but also its
food, bedding, or anything else it may come in contact with. The reformers also feel that children
should not be guided into the workplace to work with dangerous and unhealthy conditions. They
believe a child should be raised and nurtured by loving parents until they reach an

Metaphors In American Childhood
We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48).
This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of
space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences
can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the
reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and
understanding that as you grow older your awareness of time and space deepens in understanding.
Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an
outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood, Dillard
explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black phalanx (34).
This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a few nuns that are
walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word Dillard attributes to
something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent one of the first real
things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this metaphor as a sign of fear
when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice that the awareness she has of
the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and think deeply about her thoughts.

Biography of Carol Johnson
Carol Johnson, born September 6th 1929, is one of the leading ladies in the field of landscape
architecture. She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and spent most of her childhood outside hiking
and camping. The love for the outdoors was inspired by her parents; a lawyer and a school principal.
According to Lewis (2014), the parents were avid and skilled gardeners who frequently talked to her
about plants and nature. The family also vacationed on the Massachusetts island; she has memories of
walking along the Gaylord Cliffs, where Native Americans used to live. This created a nature and
culture connection in her mind that has guided her till now (Lewis, 2014).
She is a graduate from Harvard University with a degree in landscape architecture in 1957 and was the
only woman student in the Graduate School of Design s landscape Program then. Her personal growth
is attributed to professors such as Sigfried Gideon, the author of Space, Time and Architecture. During
her time at Harvard, Johnson picked sentiment in environmentally sensitive landscape design and
became acquainted with collaborative design processes (Sickle, 2008). These two concepts formed a
major part of her design approach and ethic.
One of her first employments after graduation was with the Architects Collaborative in 1958. She only
worked there for one year though after which she started her own practice, the Carol R. Johnson
Associates, Inc. A lot of the encouragement and business came mainly from her old

What Is Socrates Argument For The Soul s Immortality
On the day of Socrates execution, conducted by the state of Athens, he has a number of friends and
philosophers join him in his cell to discuss his perceptions on death and his soul in the afterlife.
During his final conversation preceding his passing, Socrates presents four arguments for the soul s
immortality and suggests that each genuine philosopher should not be fearful of death, but should
instead look forward to it. While I agree with Socrates on the premise that the soul is immortal, I do
not feel that any of his arguments are sufficient enough to prove this belief to be true. Plato s Phaedo
allegedly recounts these events and departing conversations with Socrates. Socrates first argument
regarding the soul s immortality focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soul is and always will be indestructible (106e). He believes that every single new life created
came from the death of another life. Socrates does not go into many specifics with this point, as he
poses his belief as a closing testimony to his life. In addition, none of the bystanders argue against his
final argument, as they realize that this is the last of Socrates. If one is intended to believe that
Socrates means any form of life and any form of death, then I fully support his four arguments in
totality and would take back all of my previous claims. However, he doesn t openly say that the
transmigration of the soul reaches beyond humans and into animals or other living organisms. For this
reason, his fourth argument is rather unnecessary and is repetitive. Socrates fails to bring any new
knowledge to the table, and is simply reiterating points that he made in his previous three arguments.
It seems that he has ran out of justifications for his beliefs, so he finalizes with his main point all along
instead of presenting a new argument. I applaud Socrates for this, as he wants his peers to realize that
he believes his soul will live on and that is all that should matter for him on the day of his death. For
this reason, I do not have any negative things to say, other than it not being obligatory, about Socrates

5. How is the conversation about Vicksburg that James and Captain Keller have at breakfast the
conversation that is interrupted by the battle between Annie and Helen symbolic? Explain its
relationship to the long, dialogue free section of this act during which Annie and Helen struggle
against one another.
Answer: This was symbolic because all the other characters wanted Annie to stop and just let Helen
get what she wanted but Annie was persistent. This was I think one of the best parts in the book just
because of how persistent Annie is. After the long battle between the two Annie had gotten Helen to
eat her own food off of a plate and also fold her own napkin. All the characters were also thinking
about sending Annie home until after this when Helen ran outside a complete mess and reached for her
mother like she was a savior, and then found out that Annie had gotten Helen to eat her own food off
of a plate and also fold her own napkin. After this the whole family and workers were completely
awestruck, I thought this was very symbolic.

about the beliefs that Annie Sullivan has repeatedly expressed in the play?

Testicular Cancer Research Paper
Testicular Cancer Testicular cancer is a cancer that only occurs on men. This cancer forms in the
testicles, or testes, of a male. The testicles are positioned inside of the scrotum which is next to the
penis and looks like a bag of skin. The purpose of the testicles is to produce sperm and they contain
sex hormones. Reproductive bodies called germ cells develop into sperm through a process of cellular
division called meiosis (4). Normally cell division is regulated but in testicular cancer the germ cells
begin to divide uncontrollably and, instead of producing functional sperm, the germ cells create copies
of themselves making them cancerous cells. This kind of out of control division may happen to any
type of cell in the testicle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are numerous ways to treat it since there are different types of testicular cancers and different
stages. One treatment can be surgery. There are two different surgical procedures, one is to remove the
testicle and the other to remove a lymph node (2). Removing the testicle is the most common
treatment because it can be done on merely all types of testicular cancer and in different stages. The
procedure to remove the testicle is done by having the surgeon makes an incision in your groin and
extracts the entire testicle through the opening (2). The patient also has the option to have a prosthetic
testicle implanted to replace the one the surgeon took out. However, having only one testicle does not
impair the patients sexual potency or fertility. There is a brief decrease of sperm production but that is
only temporary (5). The surgery in which the lymph node is removed is done by making an incision
on the abdomen. This surgery is more dangerous due to all the nerves surrounding the lymph nodes. If
the surgeon accidentally damages a can be difficult for the patient to have an ejaculation, but they can
still have an erection (2). After the surgery the patient will most likely need to schedule for another
appointment to check on the progress. These follow up appointments consist of blood tests, CT scans
and periodic x rays in order to check that the

Lab Safety Code At Biosafety Labs
Chemistry laboratories pose a threat to the consumer; however, they also affect the researcher. A
young Singaporean researcher contracted Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) through an
experiment that had gone wrong. At first many people thought he was sickened with this disease
because there was a SARS crisis all around Asia; however, that was not the case. In the article, SARS
Experts want Labs to Improve Safety Practices, the researcher claimed that he didn t have the
background to understand how to handle dangerous agents. Due to the chemistry lab, the researcher
was injured. This then formulated an international problem in which the national legislation instructed
a very detailed safety code at biosafety labs. Many amateur experimenters do not know lab safety by
heart so they tend to perform dangerous actions that may lead to injuries or death depending on how
potentially dangerous the experiment is. In my personal experiences, I have seen many improper lab
practices in which I helped teach people how to correctly perform these actions. This includes adding
acids to water and not the reverse way because acids may bubble and splash everywhere, pouring
liquids from small containers to big containers unless a valve is available is favored because it is
easier to spill the content from a big container into the small container, and to wear close toed shoes in
order to prevent falling dangerous materials from making contact with skin. As one may see, there are

Star Life Cycle
The life cycle of star is on an eternal cycle of birth, death and regeneration where the gases that form
stars are ejected by the very stars when they die. This all starts with the helium gas and fusion of
hydrogen. The life cycle of a star is formed from stellar nebula to high mass stars and low mass stars.
Hertzsprung and Russell classified stars on the main sequence of the H R diagram about 1910 that
shows the relationship between luminosities and spectral types.
Stellar Nebula A nebula contains dust and gas where gravity causes these to group together. Before the
star is formed, the protostar will need to attain hydrostatic equilibrium by balancing the gravity getting
atoms in and pushing heat and light out with radiation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are very bright since they have large diameters, but with low surface temperatures compared to
the Sun. When the helium in the core is completely used the core collapses again.
Planetary Nebula Planetary nebula are formed in the outer core of the star that are vanished when the
star of the Sun s mass changes from a red giant to white dwarf. At this stage all the energy from the
star fades away losing layers and forms a complex structure. White Dwarf White dwarf is very small
with diameter as the Earth and mass similar to the Sun formed when the core of red giant collapsed.
The maximum mass a white dwarf can have is about 1.4 solar masses which is known as
Chandrasekhar limit. A single star can be one mass at the start of life and still evolve into a white
dwarf being 0.6 mass compressed into approximately the volume of the Earth. Even though it is hot, it
is not as bright compared to its temperature of more than 8000° C. However, they cool down and fade
over billions of years.

How Does Lawrence s Use Of Juxtaposition
In D.H Lawrence s novel The Rainbow the woman is faced with a situation: a lust for a different life.
One that is not based on blood intimacy like the ideals of her rural family. One that allowed her to face
away from the pulsing heat of the sun and explore the magic land where men were dominant and
creative. However, it is a dream that she may never achieve. Since he used literary devices such as
Irony and juxtaposition, it allowed him to characterize the woman and capture her situation.
One literary device that he chose to used in order to capture the woman s situation was Irony. The
Irony is created by the woman s house. One would expect that if she wanted to leave her house and
explore the world beyond the one she knew, she would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The juxtaposition was created by the description of the two types of men. In the story both men share
a common trait of power. However, lawrence began to further explain how The vicar moved in worlds
beyond where her own menfolk existed. Did she not know her own menfolk; fresh, slow, full built
men, masterful enough, but easy, native to the earth laking outwardness and range of motion. Whereas
the vicar, dark and dry and small beside her husband had yet a quickness and a range of being made
Brangwen, in his large geniality, seem dull and local (Lawrence). This explains the difference between
the two men. This explains how the woman s husband is strong and has a deep connection with the
earth. Her husband does not need a lot to make himself happy and is content with his limited
knowledge that allows him to work the land. The other description was of the vicar who was satisfied
with small, clean and was capable of doing multiple task. The juxtaposition between the men helps to
characterize the woman by showing what she does and does not want. She wants to live like the vicar,
a life with more mindful and individualistic activities. She does not want a life that is connectied to the

Essay about Physics Behind Flying Airplanes
The Physics behind Flying Airplanes
There are several aspects involved in the dynamics of airplane and how they become airborne. This
report will address the main physics involved and mathematic formulae that prove how airplanes get
above the ground from a small fighter jet to a massive Boeing 747. The necessities involved in
keeping there massive weights in the air and the extreme forces needed to land these airplanes and
bring them to a halt will also be explored.
Firstly, the formula F = ma, where F is force, m being mass and a meaning acceleration. This formula
is used in the design stage of airplanes but in a different format, a = F/m. This meaning that for the
acceleration to be greater F and m needs to be changed, this would ... Show more content on

This clearly shows that the greater the force and the smaller the mass go towards making the
acceleration greater.
Another formula that s used is, a = v u/t, a meaning acceleration, v being average velocity, u as initial
velocity and where t is equal to time. So lets assume that the initial velocity of the airplane is zero and
its average velocity is at 6.7 x 101 m s 1 and the airplane has been traveling at this velocity for 10
seconds, so a = (6.7 x 101 0)/10 = 6.7 m s 2. This would then require a runway of 6.7 x 102 metres in
length and obviously for the velocity to become greater a longer runway and greater acceleration
would have to be a necessity. This formula would then be used, at = v u, now the acceleration of the
airplane is increased to 1.2 x 101 m s 2 and the time measured is increased to 12 seconds. In a formula
it looks like this, (1.2 x 101 m s 2) x (12 s)= 144 m s 1. We can determine the distance of the runway
by using this formula, d = vt, this means d=144 m s 1 x 12= 1.73 x 103 m. This shows why a larger
runway is a lot more beneficial to an airplane and results in the plane reaching its needed speed. By
making a runway longer this dramatically increases the safety, if a runway was not long enough the
airplanes would not be able to reach the needed speed to leave the ground but

This paper will explore the issue of problem gambling, specifically focusing on problem gambling as
a major issue in Australian society. It will also compare Australian gambling institutions with other
international gambling institutions including Las Vegas and, more importantly, Macau.
Gambling can be defined as an activity involving a participant who allows for something of value or
money to be put at risk. This includes playing poker machines, online games that risk the loss of
money, cards, casino games, as well as placing bets on sporting events, and purchasing lottery tickets
(Beyond Blue, 2010). Gambling is currently a very prominent issue in Australia ... Show more content

Gambling problems can create major financial problems, impact negatively on one s family and other
relationships, cause mental health issues such as depression and anxiety due to addiction, and establish
exposure of national and international serious organised crime through VIP high rollers that come to
Australia to gamble (Besser and Richard, 2014). Therefore it is mandatory for policy regulations to be
implemented by Australian federal and state governments with the cooperation of gambling
establishments in order to assist in combatting the serious issue of gambling in Australia.
Historical background to the issue and any historical precedents to current policy
Problem gambling is not a new issue and has occurred throughout the course of history. Gambling has
been obvious problem in the Australian community since the arrival of the first fleet (Australian
Government, 1999). Over time, more and more people have taken up the addictive activity of
gambling that becomes a large problem for many individuals over time. Since the advancement of

Types Of Deep Sea Mining Essay
A huge problem with deep sea mining is that the sea/ ocean waters is something that humans have not
even begun to scratch the surface of grasping a full understanding of it. The sea is the largest

The English Puritans
The English Puritans were a group of reformed Christians looking to escape for England and its
religious persecutions. With reformed beliefs and ideals, the Puritans came to the New World forming
new behaviors and strengthening unity among believers in God and worship. Causing controversial
conflict and laying persecutions of their own, the Puritans will subse quently transform early America
by laying the foundation for political, social and religious plat forms.
During the 16th century, King Henry VIII would come to find himself in a bit of a pre dicament. His
first wife, Catherine failed to produce a son which was unacceptable since there was such precedence
in having a male heir as a successor to the throne. King Henry s answer to this would be a divorce.
However, this was strictly forbidden under the laws of the Catholic Church so King Henry would start
a reformation leading to the Church of England. Most of the beliefs and religious structure will stay
the same apart from divorce. These shifts in religious re form would bring about many who disagreed
with the fundamental beliefs of the Church of Eng land and they would come to be known as the
Puritans. The Puritans were of Protestant faith and found the reformed Church of England to be still
too true to the Catholic Church. This group of Protestants believed in a more simple and pure way of
life with a closer relationship with God. Thus, being deemed with the title, Puritans. They felt that the

Sexual Imagery In Sexual Advertising
The idea of using sexual imagery to boost products sales and company revenue is defiantly not a new
one. Tom Reichert from the University of Alabama wrote in his article A review of Content, Effects,
and Functions of Sexual Information in Consumer Advertising that as early as 1885 W. Duke Sons
placed trading cards in cigarette packs that had sexually provocative ladies on them to try and boost
sales. The company seemed to be successful with the promotion and by 1890 they were one of the
leading brands of cigarettes. Another early example was found in 1910. A women s beauty bar
company; Woodbury s Facial Soap was struggling with sales until they started using advertising that
showed couples in a romantic embrace. Reichert notes in contemporary mainstream consumer
advertising (e.g., magazines, network and cable television), sex is present in promotional messages for
a wide range of branded goods (Reichert, 2002 pg. 242).
Reichert then goes on to say
ads feature provocative images of well defined women (and men) in revealing outfits and postures
selling clothing, alcohol, beauty products, and fragrances. Advertisers such as Calvin Klein, Victoria s
Secret, and Pepsi use these images to cultivate a ubiquitous sex tinged media presence (Reichert,2002
pg. 242).
Reichert explains to his readers that there are six distinct types of sexual advertising content. The first
type is Body Display. This type of advertising content could be described as revealing clothing

The Reasons For The Europeans Voyage Of Exploration At The...
The reason for the Europeans voyage of exploration at the end of the Sixteenth Century was because
in the past ages the Europeans thought that the earth was flat. In the exploration of the world they had
known the world to be the Age of Discovery . They only knew about the land that was close to their
home and country. They wanted to explore the world by sea so that could search for new trading

Chesapeake, Middle Colonies, and New England were there governance, economy, social structure,
and the American Indians. In the Chesapeake, Virginia was governed by a royal charter until 1624 and
Maryland was a proprietary colony which gave the Calvert all the right to appoint governors and also
control the government. Economically, Virginia and Maryland big cash crop between the two states
were tobacco. Social structure minority consisted of mostly free men and women, as the majority
consisted of laborers and servants, which they became free after a certain period of time. Around the
1700s slaves had become a wide proportion of the southern population. The social and political was
very much similar to England. The American Indians in the 1640, being a native population in
Virginia decreased from 20,000 to 10,000. By 1670s only about a dozen tribes and 2,000 Native
American remained in the colony. In the Middle Colonies, they experience a lot of diversity in their

Essay about Coral Reefs
Coral reefs have been undergoing global degradation due to increasing natural and anthropogenic
impacts for at least the last half century. The intensity and frequency of stressors, including global
climate change, have rapidly increased in number over recent years (Hughes Connell 1999; Hoegh
Guldberg et al. 2007; Pandolfi et al. 2011). Frequent disturbances such as hurricanes/cyclones,
predation outbreaks, diseases and mass bleaching events eat away at the percent of living coral cover
and without recovery, the available space is colonized by sponges, soft corals, and macroalgae. These
alternative organisms are often competitive dominants in less than ideal conditions (Norström et al.
2009). The transition is termed a phase shift from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

chemically mediated competition (deNys et al. 1991, Morrow et al. 2011). Macroalgae can cause
physical stress (Quan Young Espinoza Avalos 2006) decreased photosynthetic abilities (Titlyanov et
al. 2007), reduced fecundity (Foster et al. 2008), and harbor potential coral pathogens (Nugues et al.
2004). The ability of macroalgae to competitively damage stony corals also depends on the species of
macroalgae (Maypa Raymundo 2004; Birrell et al. 2008), and other compounding factors such as
irradiance, sedimentation, dissolved nutrients, and level of herbivory on the reef.
Over the past several decades the incidence of coral disease has increased, with striking correlation to
increasing macroalgal cover (Goreau et al. 1998; Harvell et al. 1999; Harvell 2004; Weil Smith 2006).
The enhanced need for disease research coupled with the massive advancements in molecular
techniques made the study of coral associated microbes more efficient and less cost prohibitive. Thus,
we have recently recognized the significant role microorganisms play in the physiology of both
healthy and diseased corals. The term holobiont was coined to describe the dynamic relationship

The Earth On The Turtle s Back
How was Earth created? How were people created? Why was everything made how it was? All of
these questions and many more were asked by Native Americans, and so they came up with stories to
answer these questions in a way they could understand. Some of these stories include; The Sky Tree,
The Earth on the Turtle s Back, Coyote Finishes His Work, Coyote Steals the Sun and Moon, The
Blackfeet Genesis, When Grizzlies Walked Upright, and The Navajo Origin Legend. According to
these titles, one could conclude that there were different stories explaining the same thing, and a lot of
them had to do with animals.
The first two stories that are similar in many ways is The Sky Tree and The Earth on the Turtle s Back.
Both of these stories are the explanation of how the land came around, stating that the Earth started as

In 1996, Toyota engineers discovered an issue with the Hilux Surf, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that
was sold in England. Toyota sold this same SUV in the United States, but it was called the 4Runner.
The engineers were concerned because with a combination of heavy loading and severe steering
maneuvers, the SUVs could lose directional stability. This resulted in the possible consequence of
drivers losing control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. Toyota did make a design
change to correct the steering mechanism, but instead of issuing a recall on the existing Hilux Surfs
and 4Runners that were already on the road, Toyota simply installed the design change on the new
models. Eight years later, there was an accident that involved an out of control Hilux Surf that

After winning contests and gaining recognition he developed more interest in the film industry. As
adulthood arrived Spielberg had settled down with two women, Amy Irving and Kate Capshaw. He
only had one son before divorcing his first wife Amy, but had seven children with second wife Kate.
His children s names are Jessica, Sasha, Mikaela, Theo, Max, Sawyer, and Destry. He s now known as
the family man or the giant kid ( Steven Spielberg, Business). In 1980, Steven s career began when he

Electrical Engineering And The Field Of Engineering
Electrical Engineering is a well respected and growing field of engineering that centers on the
practical application of electricity, electromagnetism and electronics. The field is of considerable
necessity to modern life and infrastructure, having applications in many diverse branches of modern
life. Some of these include telecommunications, energy and power distribution, transportation,
manufacturing and consumer electronics. In this report we will go over the education and coursework
requirements, fields of the industry, the work environment, salary, tools of the trade, and professional
organizations of electrical engineers. According to Frederick Terman; Electrical Engineering as a
discipline first appeared in the United States during the early 1880 s as classes in physics and energy
flows intended to prepare students to enter the new and fast growing electrical manufacture industry.
As the industry grew, EE education followed. Within ten years the discipline made a place for itself
along the more classical engineering departments. An example of the industry s adaptability to change
would be the industry before and after the First World War. Before WWI, work in the industry was
concentrated primarily on the distribution of power, building electric infrastructure using the
properties of AC and DC circuits. Also before WWI, many students did not opt to take on graduate
work. Instead, students typically would obtain a Bachelor s of Science and learn practical skills in

Emigre Foundry Case Study
Emigre Foundry was founded in 1984 in Northern California by Zuzana Licko and
Rudy VanderLans. It is a digital type foundry that holds exclusive license to over 300 original typeface
designs created by a roster of contemporary designers (Emigre).
Emigre was the first type foundry that created type on a computer for computers. They also used to
publish a magazine that was highly regarded in the graphic design industry,
Emigre magazine, and designed new fonts for the magazine.
Zuzana Licko was one of the first designers to create type for computers.
Because of the early, poor screen resolution, she created bitmap fonts that had jagged edges. Licko
also created one of the first vector fonts that worked well with the screen resolution and dot matrix
printers. The font was called Matrix II. It used 45Âș serifs that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

increased its popularity in the 1990s. space and resulting in fast printing (Emigre).

Zuzana Licko.
Licko and VanderLans ran into some criticism though. The graphic designer
Massimo Vignelli called Emigre a typographic garbage factory that signifies the degradation of
culture. This was at the time when the Mac computer was introduced, and printing was being done by
offset typography which was a fairly new technology itself. As with most change, a new idea or
technology is often met with skepticism and a reluctance to change. I am sure that the pixilated fonts
were not pretty or familiar and the letterpress and offset typography were preferred.
Emigre paved the way for contemporary designers and the growing graphic

Comparative Essay On The Tempest
The Tempest is a play written by William Shakespeare around 1610 toward the end of his career as a
poet and playwright. The Tempest fits in the genre of tragicomedy. The genre blends aspects of
tragedy and romance together which are depicted in a humorous way. The Tempest is set on an island
where its location is unspecified. The play finds Prospero and Miranda, ousted former Duke of Milan
and his daughter, living in exile on an island with Caliban, its lone native inhabitant. Change affects
the characters throughout the play when a crew caught in a storm shipwrecks and washes onto the
island. This seemingly natural event allows for many characters to gradually reveal their true motives
as the play progresses. The worldwide acclaim of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ariel finds his duties meaningful since they will eventually lead to his freedom. A Tempest depicts
Ariel differently, since it presents him as a mulatto slave rather than a spirit. An addition from the
adaptation shows an encounter between Ariel and Caliban, a black slave, which adds a new
relationship in how they view Prospero. Ariel tries to convince Caliban that Prospero is the one we ve
got to change, to which he replies, Prospero is a scoundrel who has no conscience. This conversation
highlights the complete difference in their attitudes while serving under Prospero. Ariel has a positive
outlook on this path, unlike Caliban who views his role as a slave as a hindrance to his freedom.
Retamar points out that Ariel is tied to Prospero in less burdensome and crude a way than Caliban, but
also in his service. Their status as slaves establishes a common ground and allows each of them to
understand the other in a better way. They are both related as equals, despite Prospero entrusting the
conjuring of magic to Ariel who receives the better treatment. This common ground is emphasized
further when Ariel refers to Caliban as a brother throughout their meeting. Calling Caliban by this
term allows Ariel to express sympathy for him and offer unification. Although utilizing different
methods, both share the same goal of achieving everlasting freedom. In the adaptation, the portrayal of
being a mulatto represents the state of being conflicted

Somebody Nobody- Comic Play
Somebody Nobody
Somebody Nobody was a comical play, I wish it was longer because as you go along it starts to get
more in depth. When it got to the end of the play I did not realize it, felt like I wanted to know the
afterlife of Loli and Sheena s friendship. Did Sheena and Joe Don stay together? Did Galaxy (bigger
than the stars) get fired?
Loli s character portrayed that she was energetic and she decided to better her life by moving to a
different state to start a new life. Despite what Loli went through she tried her best to keep a positive
attitude. Loli s voice inflection was excellent from when she spoke with Mr. Johnston stating that she
lost her job she seemed hopeless. When she answered the phone speaking to her mother she sounded
disappointed that her mother wanted her to move back home to Flatt Kansas. To the time she was
excited that Sheena Keener was at her door step. As for Sheena Kenner s character, I viewed her as
uppity though she was a B List Celebrity. I admire her for telling the story as she gazed off into the
audience, it made me wonder what she was looking at so I visualized as she spoke. As Sheen was
acting I seen that she used a lot of hand gestures when she has an attitude or so called sass.
Loli and Sheena were the opposite of each other but they turned that into a friendship. I think they
both build themselves off from one another so the character s relationship will have a strong
foundation. I think Sheena taught Loli how to get out of her shell

Diaz 01339429 ENG 215: Studies in Children s Literature Prof. Bonniecki September 30th, 2010 Diaz 1 The Little Mermaid The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale by the Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen. The tale is about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a merperson to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince. The tale was first published in 1837 and has been adapted to various media including musical theater and animated film. The standard of this classical story has been set to be the Disney Movie titled the same ... There are some standard elements of teenage life here, including young love, and some degree of rebellion from ones parents, in this case King Triton, Ariel s father. It was not Ariel s physical beauty that the Prince loved, but her voice. He is enraptured by the voice even in the presence of Ariel s physical beauty and great legs. The metaphor here should be obvious. What does a woman lose when she becomes subservient to a man, or male dominated culture in general? She loses her voice. The point of the movie is that a young woman s beauty should come not from her physical attributes, but from her voice, her personality, her self. Metaphorically, without her voice in society, she is pretty helpless and powerless to change what s going on around her, explain herself, etc. As for the prince he isn t interested in Ariel just for her looks. It is also important to note that she gets her reward only after working together with her father, King Triton. In the original version The Little Mermaid, longing for the prince and an eternal soul, eventually visits the Sea Witch, who sells her a potion that gives her legs, in exchange for her tongue. The Sea Witch cuts her tongue and warns her that once she becomes a human, she will never be able to return to the sea. Drinking the potion made out of snakes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bottom s ignorance of having his head transformed into an ass s by Puck balances mischief against Oberon s malicious intent. In the lines leading up to the extract, there is ample opportunity for the audience to laugh at the antics on stage, but for the purpose of the extract, negative aspects of love are present, and there is little comedic value. Atmosphere and tone is important when considering performance possibilities, and can be enhanced by setting or scenery, light, sound effects and music. If considering a live performance, the type of venue should also be considered, and whether the text should be performed in the open air, a traditional theatre or a playhouse styled venue. The delivery of the lines, whether in verse or prose should aid the audience s understanding of the language, and if there is the potential for the meaning to be unclear, expressive acting and actions may counter any confusion. In the extract, Bottom is given four fairies to attend to him. Their names are Peasseblossom, Cobweb, Mote and Mustardseed! (Line 144). The audience may be unaware these fairies have been named after plants of herbal remedy, and although Shakespeare provides clarification of this point, the performer s delivery of the lines, through the spoken words or through acting, should allow the audience to make that connection. Shakespeare often includes stage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of Genocide In Rwanda In April of 1994, a terrible atrocity began in the African country of Rwanda where around eight hundred thousand individuals were massacred over a time period of 100 brutal days. If thought about in mathematical terms, this works out to about 333 deaths per hour; which is a rate of deaths worse than what occurred during the Holocaust. (2) The term genocide is defined in the United Nations Genocide Convention, established in 1948, as any of the following acts committed with the intent to destroy in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: a) killing members of the group; b) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; c) deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to ... Even those who disagree with this mentality often do not make their ideas known for fear of backlash. Ayn Rand presents Howard Roark as an incorruptible individual unafraid of disagreement within her novel The Fountainhead. Roark and his creator share the same ideals: individuality, nonconformity, and the individual pursuit of happiness. Roark s motives are simply to seek his own satisfaction without interfering with the contentment of others, and he never falters in his drive to achieve his ultimate desires. His behavior wholly reflects this outlook, making him the perfect ambassador for Rand s philosophy. Because of this, Howard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doing this promotes his well being because facing situations in this manner helps him gain an insightful perspective, which gives him an advantage over those who do not understand the whole picture. Ellsworth Toohey, for example, encourages others to abandon independent thought in favor of a twisted sense of selflessness designed to turn them into drones feeding off the speculation of others. While talking to his niece, Toohey declares that consciously focusing on one s own emotions makes a person become selfish and egotistical. He explains, That is why the mind is so unreliable. We must not think. We must believe (365). Essentially, Toohey preaches that people must abandon free thought because it causes them to dwell on their own emotions, which makes them egotistical. However, ignoring free thought requires that one ignore the truth. Roark, on the other hand, believes that one must not reject his own emotions so that he may find the truth and reach his or her goals, as long as those goals do not interfere with the well being of another. • 7. A Vindication Of The Rights Of Women By Mary Wollstonecraft I have a profound conviction that women are rendered weak and wretched, especially by a false system of education, gathered from books written by men who have been more anxious to make women alluring mistresses than rational wives. (Mary Wollstonecraft. A Vindication of the Rights of Woman.) Mary Wollstonecraft s main argument was to denounce the unfair treatment that many women had to endure since the moment of their birth being object of segregation from mainly men and all of society as they were viewed as only trophies to accompany men and to be stay at home mothers. We can consider Wollstonecraft to be a pioneer of feminism this book being a response to Jean Jacques Rousseau s Declaration of the Rights of Men and of Citizens where he clearly excludes women. Having been a victim of the same segregation is what maked Wollstonecraft so passionate about this subject. These writings are a reflection of the conditions of her own life having had a hard upbringing, being abused by her father and sustaining hard situations in an unfortunate life. More than an gender feminism she worked towards equal opportunity as a result of living in a society that did not offer that. Wollstonecraft mainly writes a controversy and presents a resistance towards the works of other authors, those being men. She addresses her ideas to those contrary of men who thought that a woman should not be educated and if so only a domestic education as did M. Talleyrand Perigord who she boldly ... Progressive reformers, who were generally people from small towns who later lived in cities, focused primarily on these children and their problems. The goals of the reformers were to change the meaning of childhood and help people understand how children should really be treated. A child growing up in the nineteenth century was expected to live an adult life by an early age. In the colonial period in America, once children became toddlers they were considered as miniature adults in the making. The two women were passionate about their work and strived to get the information on healthy childhoods out to mothers in order to restore the meaning of childhood. The progressive reformers analyzed that parents provided poor diets for their children causing malnutrition and diarrhea. This was a huge cause to the death of infants and toddlers. The Bureau hoped to educate families to weaken the child mortality rate and hopefully create a better understanding of how a child should be raised. The reformers were very successful in many ways. The advice they gave out to mothers helped save man y children and help define a healthy childhood. For example, one response of the Children s Bureau was, the infant is especially sensitive to uncleanliness. (Ladd Taylor 1986) This made it clear to mothers that the child must be exposed to a clean and healthy environment in order to prevent diseases or sicknesses from arising. Not only the clothing of the child should be clean, but also its food, bedding, or anything else it may come in contact with. The reformers also feel that children should not be guided into the workplace to work with dangerous and unhealthy conditions. • 12. Metaphors In American Childhood We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48). This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and understanding that as you grow older your awareness of time and space deepens in understanding. Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood, Dillard explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black phalanx (34). This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a few nuns that are walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word Dillard attributes to something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent one of the first real things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this metaphor as a sign of fear when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice that the awareness she has of the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and think deeply about her thoughts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Biography of Carol Johnson Carol Johnson, born September 6th 1929, is one of the leading ladies in the field of landscape architecture. She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and spent most of her childhood outside hiking and camping. The love for the outdoors was inspired by her parents; a lawyer and a school principal. According to Lewis (2014), the parents were avid and skilled gardeners who frequently talked to her about plants and nature. The family also vacationed on the Massachusetts island; she has memories of walking along the Gaylord Cliffs, where Native Americans used to live. This created a nature and culture connection in her mind that has guided her till now (Lewis, 2014). She is a graduate from Harvard University with a degree in landscape architecture in 1957 and was the only woman student in the Graduate School of Design s landscape Program then. Her personal growth is attributed to professors such as Sigfried Gideon, the author of Space, Time and Architecture. During her time at Harvard, Johnson picked sentiment in environmentally sensitive landscape design and became acquainted with collaborative design processes (Sickle, 2008). These two concepts formed a major part of her design approach and ethic. One of her first employments after graduation was with the Architects Collaborative in 1958. She only worked there for one year though after which she started her own practice, the Carol R. Johnson Associates, Inc. A lot of the encouragement and business came mainly from her old ... • 14. What Is Socrates Argument For The Soul s Immortality On the day of Socrates execution, conducted by the state of Athens, he has a number of friends and philosophers join him in his cell to discuss his perceptions on death and his soul in the afterlife. During his final conversation preceding his passing, Socrates presents four arguments for the soul s immortality and suggests that each genuine philosopher should not be fearful of death, but should instead look forward to it. While I agree with Socrates on the premise that the soul is immortal, I do not feel that any of his arguments are sufficient enough to prove this belief to be true. Plato s Phaedo allegedly recounts these events and departing conversations with Socrates. Socrates first argument regarding the soul s immortality focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The soul is and always will be indestructible (106e). He believes that every single new life created came from the death of another life. Socrates does not go into many specifics with this point, as he poses his belief as a closing testimony to his life. In addition, none of the bystanders argue against his final argument, as they realize that this is the last of Socrates. If one is intended to believe that Socrates means any form of life and any form of death, then I fully support his four arguments in totality and would take back all of my previous claims. However, he doesn t openly say that the transmigration of the soul reaches beyond humans and into animals or other living organisms. For this reason, his fourth argument is rather unnecessary and is repetitive. Socrates fails to bring any new knowledge to the table, and is simply reiterating points that he made in his previous three arguments. It seems that he has ran out of justifications for his beliefs, so he finalizes with his main point all along instead of presenting a new argument. I applaud Socrates for this, as he wants his peers to realize that he believes his soul will live on and that is all that should matter for him on the day of his death. For this reason, I do not have any negative things to say, other than it not being obligatory, about Socrates final ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The testicles are positioned inside of the scrotum which is next to the penis and looks like a bag of skin. The purpose of the testicles is to produce sperm and they contain sex hormones. Reproductive bodies called germ cells develop into sperm through a process of cellular division called meiosis (4). Normally cell division is regulated but in testicular cancer the germ cells begin to divide uncontrollably and, instead of producing functional sperm, the germ cells create copies of themselves making them cancerous cells. There are numerous ways to treat it since there are different types of testicular cancers and different stages. One treatment can be surgery. There are two different surgical procedures, one is to remove the testicle and the other to remove a lymph node (2). The procedure to remove the testicle is done by having the surgeon makes an incision in your groin and extracts the entire testicle through the opening (2). The patient also has the option to have a prosthetic testicle implanted to replace the one the surgeon took out. However, having only one testicle does not impair the patients sexual potency or fertility. There is a brief decrease of sperm production but that is only temporary (5). A young Singaporean researcher contracted Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) through an experiment that had gone wrong. At first many people thought he was sickened with this disease because there was a SARS crisis all around Asia; however, that was not the case. In the article, SARS Experts want Labs to Improve Safety Practices, the researcher claimed that he didn t have the background to understand how to handle dangerous agents. Due to the chemistry lab, the researcher was injured. This then formulated an international problem in which the national legislation instructed a very detailed safety code at biosafety labs. Many amateur experimenters do not know lab safety by heart so they tend to perform dangerous actions that may lead to injuries or death depending on how potentially dangerous the experiment is. In my personal experiences, I have seen many improper lab practices in which I helped teach people how to correctly perform these actions. This includes adding acids to water and not the reverse way because acids may bubble and splash everywhere, pouring liquids from small containers to big containers unless a valve is available is favored because it is easier to spill the content from a big container into the small container, and to wear close toed shoes in order to prevent falling dangerous materials from making contact with skin. This all starts with the helium gas and fusion of hydrogen. The life cycle of a star is formed from stellar nebula to high mass stars and low mass stars. Hertzsprung and Russell classified stars on the main sequence of the H R diagram about 1910 that shows the relationship between luminosities and spectral types. • 25. Essay about Physics Behind Flying Airplanes The Physics behind Flying Airplanes There are several aspects involved in the dynamics of airplane and how they become airborne. This report will address the main physics involved and mathematic formulae that prove how airplanes get above the ground from a small fighter jet to a massive Boeing 747. The necessities involved in keeping there massive weights in the air and the extreme forces needed to land these airplanes and bring them to a halt will also be explored. Firstly, the formula F = ma, where F is force, m being mass and a meaning acceleration. This formula is used in the design stage of airplanes but in a different format, a = F/m. This meaning that for the acceleration to be greater F and m needs to be changed, this would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This clearly shows that the greater the force and the smaller the mass go towards making the acceleration greater. Another formula that s used is, a = v u/t, a meaning acceleration, v being average velocity, u as initial velocity and where t is equal to time. So lets assume that the initial velocity of the airplane is zero and its average velocity is at 6.7 x 101 m s 1 and the airplane has been traveling at this velocity for 10 seconds, so a = (6.7 x 101 0)/10 = 6.7 m s 2. This would then require a runway of 6.7 x 102 metres in length and obviously for the velocity to become greater a longer runway and greater acceleration would have to be a necessity. This formula would then be used, at = v u, now the acceleration of the airplane is increased to 1.2 x 101 m s 2 and the time measured is increased to 12 seconds. In a formula it looks like this, (1.2 x 101 m s 2) x (12 s)= 144 m s 1. We can determine the distance of the runway by using this formula, d = vt, this means d=144 m s 1 x 12= 1.73 x 103 m. This shows why a larger runway is a lot more beneficial to an airplane and results in the plane reaching its needed speed. By making a runway longer this dramatically increases the safety, if a runway was not long enough the airplanes would not be able to reach the needed speed to leave the ground but ... Tom Reichert from the University of Alabama wrote in his article A review of Content, Effects, and Functions of Sexual Information in Consumer Advertising that as early as 1885 W. Duke Sons placed trading cards in cigarette packs that had sexually provocative ladies on them to try and boost sales. The company seemed to be successful with the promotion and by 1890 they were one of the leading brands of cigarettes. Another early example was found in 1910. A women s beauty bar company; Woodbury s Facial Soap was struggling with sales until they started using advertising that showed couples in a romantic embrace. Reichert notes in contemporary mainstream consumer advertising (e.g., magazines, network and cable television), sex is present in promotional messages for a wide range of branded goods (Reichert, 2002 pg. 242). Reichert then goes on to say ads feature provocative images of well defined women (and men) in revealing outfits and postures selling clothing, alcohol, beauty products, and fragrances. Advertisers such as Calvin Klein, Victoria s Secret, and Pepsi use these images to cultivate a ubiquitous sex tinged media presence (Reichert,2002 pg. 242). The intensity and frequency of stressors, including global climate change, have rapidly increased in number over recent years (Hughes Connell 1999; Hoegh Guldberg et al. 2007; Pandolfi et al. 2011). Frequent disturbances such as hurricanes/cyclones, predation outbreaks, diseases and mass bleaching events eat away at the percent of living coral cover and without recovery, the available space is colonized by sponges, soft corals, and macroalgae. Macroalgae can cause physical stress (Quan Young Espinoza Avalos 2006) decreased photosynthetic abilities (Titlyanov et al. 2007), reduced fecundity (Foster et al. 2008), and harbor potential coral pathogens (Nugues et al. 2004). The ability of macroalgae to competitively damage stony corals also depends on the species of macroalgae (Maypa Raymundo 2004; Birrell et al. 2008), and other compounding factors such as irradiance, sedimentation, dissolved nutrients, and level of herbivory on the reef. Over the past several decades the incidence of coral disease has increased, with striking correlation to increasing macroalgal cover (Goreau et al. 1998; Harvell et al. 1999; Harvell 2004; Weil Smith 2006). Toyota sold this same SUV in the United States, but it was called the 4Runner. The engineers were concerned because with a combination of heavy loading and severe steering maneuvers, the SUVs could lose directional stability. This resulted in the possible consequence of drivers losing control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. Toyota did make a design change to correct the steering mechanism, but instead of issuing a recall on the existing Hilux Surfs and 4Runners that were already on the road, Toyota simply installed the design change on the new models. Eight years later, there was an accident that involved an out of control Hilux Surf that prompted a police investigation. The Japanese government heavily criticized Toyota and ordered them to overhaul its recall system. Since 2007, Toyota has received major criticism regarding the safety and quality of their vehicles. The company has faced many issues in a short period of time. Following is a brief timeline that highlights the major events that took place: 2007 March 2007 Toyota receives reports about an accelerator pedal glitch in its Tundra model. • 42. Electrical Engineering And The Field Of Engineering Electrical Engineering is a well respected and growing field of engineering that centers on the practical application of electricity, electromagnetism and electronics. The field is of considerable necessity to modern life and infrastructure, having applications in many diverse branches of modern life. Some of these include telecommunications, energy and power distribution, transportation, manufacturing and consumer electronics. In this report we will go over the education and coursework requirements, fields of the industry, the work environment, salary, tools of the trade, and professional organizations of electrical engineers. According to Frederick Terman; Electrical Engineering as a discipline first appeared in the United States during the early 1880 s as classes in physics and energy flows intended to prepare students to enter the new and fast growing electrical manufacture industry. As the industry grew, EE education followed. Within ten years the discipline made a place for itself along the more classical engineering departments. An example of the industry s adaptability to change would be the industry before and after the First World War. Before WWI, work in the industry was concentrated primarily on the distribution of power, building electric infrastructure using the properties of AC and DC circuits. Also before WWI, many students did not opt to take on graduate work. Instead, students typically would obtain a Bachelor s of Science and learn practical skills in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Emigre Foundry Case Study Emigre Foundry was founded in 1984 in Northern California by Zuzana Licko and Rudy VanderLans. It is a digital type foundry that holds exclusive license to over 300 original typeface designs created by a roster of contemporary designers (Emigre). Emigre was the first type foundry that created type on a computer for computers. They also used to publish a magazine that was highly regarded in the graphic design industry, Emigre magazine, and designed new fonts for the magazine. Zuzana Licko was one of the first designers to create type for computers. Because of the early, poor screen resolution, she created bitmap fonts that had jagged edges. Licko also created one of the first vector fonts that worked well with the screen resolution and dot matrix printers. The font was called Matrix II. It used 45Âș serifs that ... Licko and VanderLans ran into some criticism though. The graphic designer Massimo Vignelli called Emigre a typographic garbage factory that signifies the degradation of culture. This was at the time when the Mac computer was introduced, and printing was being done by offset typography which was a fairly new technology itself. As with most change, a new idea or technology is often met with skepticism and a reluctance to change. I am sure that the pixilated fonts were not pretty or familiar and the letterpress and offset typography were preferred. Emigre paved the way for contemporary designers and the growing graphic design ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Comparative Essay On The Tempest The Tempest is a play written by William Shakespeare around 1610 toward the end of his career as a poet and playwright. The Tempest fits in the genre of tragicomedy. The genre blends aspects of tragedy and romance together which are depicted in a humorous way. The Tempest is set on an island where its location is unspecified. The play finds Prospero and Miranda, ousted former Duke of Milan and his daughter, living in exile on an island with Caliban, its lone native inhabitant. Change affects the characters throughout the play when a crew caught in a storm shipwrecks and washes onto the island. This seemingly natural event allows for many characters to gradually reveal their true motives as the play progresses. The worldwide acclaim of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ariel finds his duties meaningful since they will eventually lead to his freedom. A Tempest depicts Ariel differently, since it presents him as a mulatto slave rather than a spirit. An addition from the adaptation shows an encounter between Ariel and Caliban, a black slave, which adds a new relationship in how they view Prospero. Ariel tries to convince Caliban that Prospero is the one we ve got to change, to which he replies, Prospero is a scoundrel who has no conscience. This conversation highlights the complete difference in their attitudes while serving under Prospero. Ariel has a positive outlook on this path, unlike Caliban who views his role as a slave as a hindrance to his freedom. Retamar points out that Ariel is tied to Prospero in less burdensome and crude a way than Caliban, but also in his service. Their status as slaves establishes a common ground and allows each of them to understand the other in a better way. They are both related as equals, despite Prospero entrusting the conjuring of magic to Ariel who receives the better treatment. This common ground is emphasized further when Ariel refers to Caliban as a brother throughout their meeting. Calling Caliban by this term allows Ariel to express sympathy for him and offer unification. Although utilizing different methods, both share the same goal of achieving everlasting freedom. In the adaptation, the portrayal of being a mulatto represents the state of being conflicted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Somebody Nobody- Comic Play Somebody Nobody Somebody Nobody was a comical play, I wish it was longer because as you go along it starts to get more in depth. When it got to the end of the play I did not realize it, felt like I wanted to know the afterlife of Loli and Sheena s friendship. Did Sheena and Joe Don stay together? Did Galaxy (bigger than the stars) get fired? Loli s character portrayed that she was energetic and she decided to better her life by moving to a different state to start a new life. Despite what Loli went through she tried her best to keep a positive attitude. Loli s voice inflection was excellent from when she spoke with Mr. Johnston stating that she lost her job she seemed hopeless. When she answered the phone speaking to her mother she sounded disappointed that her mother wanted her to move back home to Flatt Kansas. To the time she was excited that Sheena Keener was at her door step. As for Sheena Kenner s character, I viewed her as uppity though she was a B List Celebrity. I admire her for telling the story as she gazed off into the audience, it made me wonder what she was looking at so I visualized as she spoke. As Sheen was acting I seen that she used a lot of hand gestures when she has an attitude or so called sass. Loli and Sheena were the opposite of each other but they turned that into a friendship. I think they both build themselves off from one another so the character s relationship will have a strong foundation. I think Sheena taught Loli how to get out of her shell ...
