This study carried out the bibliometric analysis of research on “Indian Cinema” from 1973 to 2023. It aimed to examine the type of publications, year wise publication growth, most preferred journals, authors’ preference of keywords used, collaboration with different countries, most prolific authors, and top contributing organizations. During 50 years of study, 2622 research items were published and indexed in Scopus bibliographic database. Analysis discovered that number of publications increased from one (0.03%) in 1973 to 241 (9.19%) in 2023 and observed good progress in scholarly literature. Majority of scholarly publications were published in the form of article (1269, 48.39%). From 2007 to 2023, number of publications increased rapidly from (61, 2.32%) to (241, 9.19%) publications, which was the most productive years. On an average 52 documents were published per year. South Asian Popular Culture journal published majority of the publications (135, 25.09%). The word “India” was the most frequently used keyword. Most prolific author is Mukherjee, M with 20 publications. Jawaharlal Nehru University was highly contributing organization, which published 55 documents (11.45%). Highly contributing country USA published (769, 34.22%) documents and stood first rank among the top ten contributing countries.

• Over a century, the film industry has not only entertained
the masses but also shaped economic, technological, and
cultural shifts. As a component of a dynamic entertainment
industry ecosystem, it is, also constantly reshaped and
redefined by technological innovations and shifts in the
marketplace. (Vogel, 2014).

• To find out author productivity on Indian Cinema.
• To recognise the journals preferred for the publications.
• To investigate the geographical distribution of articles.

4. Methodology:
• Fifty years literature on “Indian Cinema” published in different
journals indexed in the Scopus database from 1973 to December
2023 were explored in this study.
• Normal subject keyword search is adopted to retrieve literature
related to the “Indian Cinema”.
• After retrieving the data, only suitable data were extracted directly
from the database into Microsoft Excel format.

11. Findings:
• Maximum number of publications (241) were found in the year 2023.
• Majority 66% of the total publications are coming from the top two countries (USA and India)
• Top three publications are coming from the Indian institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University,
Jadavpur University and University of Delhi.
• Mukherjee M is the most prolific author among the 879 authors, who has published highest 20 articles
during the last fifty years.
• Most of the publications are in the form of journal articles.
• South Asian Popular Culture journal is the prolific journal in the field of Indian Cinema.

12. Conclusion:
• In the light of the results of this study, we can conclude that interest
of authors on the topic of Indian Cinema research has improved due
to which they contributed more publications during last decade.
They were not much interested in writing book chapters and review
papers.
