Outsiders In The Outsiders
Society has always been separated into stereotypical groups. Now a days, those groups are represented
by classes: lower, middle, and upper class. What about back then? During the 1960 s in Tulsa,
Oklahoma; high school student Susan Eloise Hinton (S.E Hinton) writes a book called The Outsiders
about the diverse groups in her town. Between the Greasers and the Socs, who are the real outsiders of
the story? Though the groups are separated into privileged and unfortunate, the outsiders are the ones
who unintentionally disassociate themselves with their social clicks by socializing with the opposite
side and treating them respectfully.
The Socs are prosperous teens whom live on the opulent side of town. They re thought to be smarter,
sophisticated and less emotional than the Greasers, as shown throughout parts of the story: There were
a lot of Socs in that class I get put into A classes because I m supposed to be smart and most of them
thought it was pretty funny. (Document B); You re more emotional. We re sophisticated ... (Document
C). The expectation of them is to be around other Socs, not to fraternize with someone who s
classified as lower than them. Cherry Valance, a Soc, is an outsider because she feels comfortable
talking with a younger Greaser named Ponyboy, who is also an outsider, about things she s never told
anyone before: She smiled at me. I never told anyone that. I think you re the first person I ve ever
really gotten through to. She was coming through to me all right, probably because I was a Greaser,
and younger; she didn t have to keep her guard up with me. (Document C). It appears that Socs are
invariably showing a fabricated persona to other Socs to exude their reputation: That was the truth.
Socs were always behind a wall of aloofness, careful not to let their real selves show through.
(Document C). The same is with another outsider, a Soc named Randy is afraid of being christened a
coward if he flees a fight and he d resent himself if he didn t walk away. Randy feels that violence isn
t going to solve any conflicts between the Greasers and the Socs, yet he thinks about staying for the
sake of his respectability: but what can I do? I m marked chicken if I punk out at the

The Prehistory Of Human Existence
The prehistory of human existence in Britain includes an outlook into the Stone Age which consisted
of the lower Palaeolithic (Homo erectus), middle Palaeolithic (early Homo sapiens) as well as the
upper Palaeolithic. While there are other species within the Homo genus such as the Homo
rudolfensis, Homo habilis, Homo antecessor and the Homo ergaster, I intend to focus on the Homo
erectus, Homo heidelbergensis and of course ancient Homo sapiens as I feel they have the closest
connections to modern day humans. While Homo erectus and Homo heidelbergensis are relatively
similar I am going to mainly define them as somewhat separate species to maintain the views of
modern researchers. Most fossils now known as Homo heidelbergensis were ... Show more content on

However the strong similarities between the Homo heidelbergensis and the Homo erectus means there
is some debate that there is no need to differentiate between the two and that it was Homo erectus who
first reached Britain. The Homo erectus species were believed to have lived between about 1.89
million and 143 000 years ago. Through the study of fossil remains of these early humans
archaeologists have gained evidence to show they were one of the first of the species to expand
beyond Africa. While we do have evidence showing Homo heidelbergensis/erectus presence in Britain
(for example Boxgrove) around 500 000 years it can be seen that they did not remain after this
original arrival, glacial periods playing a large part in the dispersion of these early visitors. The middle
Palaeolithic period was between approximately 300 000 and 45 000 years ago, the upper Palaeolithic
being between approximately 45 000 and 10 000 years ago. The Homo sapien species was believed to
have emerged during the middle Palaeolithic, more specifically around 195 000 years ago in Africa
and these are seen to be the first humans to have eventually permanently inhabited Britain. Despite the
evidence for homo sapien existence in Britain 400 000 years ago the presence of modern humans in
Britain remained brief and sporadic. It has only been continuous since about 12,000 years ago.
(Natural History Museum) The homo sapien species is therefore the species us

The Basic Principles Of Biological Criminology
The basic principle of biological criminology comes from the belief people are born criminal through
genetic inheritance or physiological predisposition to crime as written by Mclaughlin and Muncie
(2013, p. 26). Early theorists such as Cesare Lombroso identified criminals by their distinctive
physical features such as by their Large cheekbones, thick eyebrows and flat nose . Lombroso (1897)
claimed in his later work only a third of criminals were actually born criminal which means we should
be able to spot a criminal by looking at them because of their features. Lombroso classified criminals
into 4 major categories including born criminal . Studies have been carried out to isolate the genetic
factor and theory assuming people are born criminals due to genetic inheritance. The types of research
that were carried out to test whether we inherit criminal genes which cause us to offend are twins
studies (identical and fraternal), adoptees and family studies. Several attempts were made to test
biological and genetic theories. A study of 3000 prisoners in London in 1910 s found a strong link
between criminality of spouses and between children, siblings and their parents. It was then greatly
argued that criminality was passed down through an individual s inherited genes. Further study from
the Cambridge study in Delinquent Development established in 1960 s suggested crime did run in
families. Studies showed the link between one convicted family member leading to another

Imagery In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
In the short story, The Lottery , Shirley Jackson examines the characters in the story and their
emotions toward the lottery. The creator utilizes tons of imagery in the story that may be difficult to
perceive.
The most typical thing that shows up in The Lottery is the black box. This box is an image for those in
the town since it is one of the main associations with the birthplace of the lottery. The shabby black
box speaks to both the convention of the lottery and the illogic of the villagers dependability to it. The
black box is almost unrepairable, with peices of wood sticking out, yet the villagers are unwilling to
replace it. This is a part of the tradition, from which nobody wants to change. The lottery must occur
simply along these lines since this is the way it s always been. The black box is a physical appearance
of the villagers association with belief.
In The Lottery, Shirley Jackson applies imagery in his story to make us mindful of the silly way of
humankind in regards to convention and savagery. The story begins off on a lovely summer day in a
residential community. The author describes the day as extremely enjoyable, however it soon changes
the significance of the title and the ending has a twist. The lottery speaks ... Show more content on

dependably, a group produced passing. At the end of the day, stones permit everybody in the town to

noteworthy as murder weapons on the grounds that the first human tools were made of stone. So it s
not only an early type of murder; stoning has a solid religious relationship with group discipline of

The Characteristics Of Aliens In Avatar And District 9
In the films Avatar and District 9, which were both released in 2009, there are stereotypical elements
of the science fiction genre. By discussing humanity towards aliens, a reliance on an advance in
technology, the use of corporate giants as a controlling forces as well as moral and emotional
manipulation, this essay will prove to a large extent that District 9 and Avatar have evolved past
typical science fiction films. However, it will also prove how District 9 has continued to evolve and
therefore is more evolved as a science fiction film than Avatar.
In Avatar and District 9, the initial interaction between the humans and the aliens revealed the true
characteristics of the aliens. For example, in District 9, this scene involved very poor ... Show more

In Avatar, humans use their advanced technology to travel to another planet to obtain precious
elements. The power of the technology is shown as Jake first lands on Pandora. His point of view is
shot at a low angle to the futuristic buildings and machinery, indicating man s inferiority without

RISK MANAGEMENT
ASSIGNMENT 5
A man, his wife and 3 young children live on an isolated and nearly self sufficient farm (that is they
produce most of their own food and are served by few public utilities). A river runs through the farm.
Cattle and other farm animals drink from the river, and the children swim in it. The farmer grows
soybeans on half of his land as a cash crop. He has a crop duster spray pesticide from an airplane onto
his soybeans twice each summer. The other half of the farmer s land is used for pasture or to grow hay
for his animals.
Write a paper the addresses the following in detail:

How would you rate Xi Jinping s visit to the US (Sept.24 25) on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is utter
failure and 10 is an unqualified success ? Provide detailed reasons in support of your answer
On September 25th, 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a state visit to the United States in a
gesture meant to reciprocate United States President Barack Obama s trip to Beijing last November in
2014. The visit served as an opportunity to bolster US China relations and cooperation among a
variety of global and bilateral issues, endeavoring to close their discord and strive for progress. It also
served as a strategic move to improve the relationship between America and China so that they stay on
track with their Bilateral Investment Treaty negotiations. The two leaders both addressed issues such
as China s alleged cyberespionage, military relations, people to people exchange, and China s act of
intimidation in the off the Alaskan coast. Moreover, Xi Jinping intended to meet with American tech
leaders with a desire to boost the economies of both nations. The question at hand is the measure of
success this visit and to what extent it lived up to its intention of expanding and deepening cooperation
. If I were to put this visit up to a scale of 1 to 10, I d rate it a 7/10 which is what I d like to call
success with caution . There are many aspects of the visit that I believe greatly improved US China
relations. On the other hand, there are gray areas

Three Things Learned From Plato s Apology
Apologies Are the New Teachers
(Three things Learned from Plato s Apology)
There are many writers, authors, and speakers in this world that are considered among the greats, but
perhaps the greatest two of western speculation are Plato and Socrates. These two hand in hand had a
huge influence on American Literature and others as well. Perhaps one of the most remarkable
writings of Plato, since Socrates never once himself wrote anything down, is his writing of Apology.
The writings of Apology showed some of Socrates final moments, how he carried himself, and most
importantly what he said. Socrates was perhaps one of the most intellectual and perceptive minds that
ever lived this life, and he had many important ideas and most specifically questions. There are many
important things to be derived and learned from the writings of Plato, and voice of Socrates. From
Plato s Apology I learned three important things; how to question society, how to defend oneself with
poise, and most importantly, That the unexamined life is not worth living. according to Socrates.
To begin, one of the important things i learned from Plato s Apology is that it s okay to question
society. Socrates himself questioned everyone, questioned the mind, made his pupils think, which is
why I think one of the most important things to take away from this piece is how he made you think,
how he questioned everything that you thought was stable until you realize that nothing around is
actually even set in

Why Is Laerte A Noble
Nobility is a trait that many men seem to desire. It is not necessarily genetic nor can one purchase it
like other traits, such as clothing, but rather is earned demonstrated. What makes one noble is not
easily determined, despite being the desire of many individuals. Whether it is nobler, more honorable,
and more admirable to live on one s knees or to die on one s feet has been a source of debate for
centuries. In his tragic play Hamlet, William Shakespeare proves that it is nobler for one to die for
what he believes in than to live in inaction.
Laertes was noble because he died for his cause, avenging his father s death and defending his father s
honor, but he would not have been had he not sought revenge. Towards the end of the play, Laertes
returns from France upon hearing that his father died, but he misses the funeral because of its haste.
Furious, Laertes leads a mob into the Castle Elsinore and, upon finding King Claudius, ... Show more

castle warn the King of treason. The willingness of the people to share in his treason and storm the
castle shouting that they will make laertes king is proof that they see his cause as justified and his
actions as noble and honorable. Later, when Laertes learns from Claudius that Hamlet killed Polonius,

Analysis Of Piano And Snake

Snake in D.H Lawrence s representations express an inner conflict; the troubles they face are for
distinct and similar reasons; they want an escape to their present state. The interpretation received
when analyzing Piano was that the narrator himself was having a troublesome time because he aspired
something that was nostalgically unreachable for him, his childhood. What caused this inclination to
be unreachable was due to the time passing which resulted in him becoming an adult and conforming
to the constitutional systems. Snake s narrator s inner distress came from the need to break down the
structural voices and principles that educational systems had constructed upon him. Both narrators
have heavily built up emotions for the want of liberation from the prisons that confine them to the
structures meant for them; their desires although differing in context are similar in topic matter. There
are in fact differences in what they long for, but there is no doubt that they do desire something
different from what they presently have. Both Poems are faced with the problematic situation of inner
hassle. Piano s narrator struggles with his oppression of his emotions in sentimentality. When he is

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Prokaryotes
All living organisms on Earth are classified within three domains Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya.
Bacteria and Archaea encompass a generalised classification known as the prokaryotes. This definition
follows the extensive similarities between the two domains, such as their manner of gene expression,
their fundamental metabolic pathways, as well as their lack of membrane bound organelles, and
compartmentalisation. Due to the cellular compartmentalisation that eukaryotes exhibit, as well as
more complex modes of metabolism and replication, prokaryotes are generally considered to be the
precursors to eukaryotic cells. One of the other defining characteristics of eukaryotic cells that allow
for multicellularity to occur is the presence of a complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is therefore suggested that MreB and actin originated from a common ancestor, as so, further
suggests that actin was a result of MreB divergence in eukaryotes. Bacterial MreB functions in
maintaining the shape of the bacterial cell, whereby MreB assembles into filaments which display an
extensive structural resemblance to actin. The divergence of MreB in eukaryotic cells is seen to be
similar to the divergence of FtsZ to tubulin, where MreB acquired new functions as eukaryotes
evolved. These new functions included the ability to perform cell division specific to eukaryotic cells,
cell movement through pseudopodia, and phagocytosis. Phagocytosis is postulated to have been a
central step in the success of eukaryotic evolution, as the ability to engulf other organisms such as
bacteria and archaea led to eukaryotes becoming predators. The ability to perform predation
contributed heavily to the survival of the eukaryotic line, as it reduced competition. Phagocytosis also
allowed for the engulfment of cyanobacteria and other bacteria which contributed to endosymbiosis,
further increasing the complexity of eukaryotic cells. In order to perform phagocytosis, eukaryotic
cells would have had to remove their inflexible cell wall, a remnant of their prokaryotic ancestors. The
remaining plasma membrane would have allowed for increased flexibility and the ability to project
towards the prey,

happiness is called peace. A very select few people will do absolutely anything to attain this type of
happiness. A young gentleman named Siddhartha is one of those people. In the book Siddhartha by

According to a reliable website The giant panda is a well known and well loved species that is being
driven to extinction by habitat loss. It has become one of the most endangered mammals in the world,
with only 1,600 of them left (Exploring nature education). Also According to another credible website
about polar bears, Polar bears might not be endangered but they are one category off of becoming
endangered, there are 20,000 25,000 left worldwide (animalpawnation). As you can see the Giant
panda is classified as endangered. There are only about 1,600 left in the world. 1,600 may be a lot but
surprisingly not to many scientists and researchers. On the other hand polar bears are classified as
threatened one step away from becoming endangered. There are only about 20,000 25,000 left
worldwide.Other than being endangered and threatened they also share many similar characteristics.
The giant panda and polar bear are both similar and different in their physical qualities, habitat, and
diet. As members of the mammal family, the giant panda and the polar bear share many of the same
physical characteristics. On the other hand their appearances set them apart from one another in many
ways. To start with pandas and polar bears are well alike and different in many ways. When being
born pandas are about 15 17 centimeters long. Polar bears on the other hand though are born about 30
35 centimeters long. Pandas over the time grow and are white with big black spots around their body.

I chose the vocabulary words emboldened (courage), and apprehension (anxiety or fear something bad

because courage is a major characteristic of the underdog, and without it they become the average
person who is unable to overcome disadvantages exceedingly well. In particular courage was a key
aspect in the way Freirich approached the children with leukemia. In contrast, apprehension is a
quality that the underdog is not familiar with, alternatively it is a trait of a person who is not willing to

In addition, Gladwell painted a good picture of the sorrow felt due to the severity of the affects on the
children from drugs, procedures, and imminent death more often than not. Gladwell gave extensive
detail to drive the point home of how audacious it was not to think outside of the box or form an
unconvential strategy to help save these childrens lives. In order to really understand the general
atmosphere, which appeared to be morgue like; the attitudes of the doctors who worked on that ward
issuing death sentences providing no hope to their patients needed to be made crystal clear. Otherwise,
it would be difficult for your average person who has empathy to understand some of Freirichs
approaches as they were viewed as haineous and unempathetic. Even though Freirich did not possess a
great amount of bedside manner, he did have empathy for the continued torture that the children were
experiencing; relative to his childhood. Freirich could empathize because he also had a tormented
period of life, his ability to emotionally express this was void. In essence the lack of affection as a
child affected his genteel nature in adulthood. Freirich is able to handle these factors in the Cancer
ward because he immediately began attempting to conform to the heinous conditions by finding a
resolution or way to improve the statistics. The difference in Freirich and your average person is his
resilience in opposing the giants in these circumstances despite the consequences. Once again similar
to the underdog strategies used in previous chapters such as Randadive and Boeis; different unique
strategies are utilized to overcome disadvantages attaining success in impossible

Effects Of Money In The Great Gatsby
Does money truly give us what we want? Having vast amounts of money may be a dream to various
people and characters within The Great Gatsby chase this dream without realizing consequences.
People do not understand that with money, comes problems and there are often dreadful things about
the wealthy that does not appear at first. Just like characters in The Great Gatsby, people in the real
world do not realize there is corruption in the rich and that money will bring you more problems than
solutions. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald creates the worlds of East
Egg and West Egg as representations of the idea that money creates illusions, and part of this idea is
further developed by Fitzgerald s use of Gatsby s car, Tom and the character s homes.
Having money and dreaming to be a wealthy person is an illusion. In The Great Gatsby the idea that
money is directly related to corruption is exhibited perfectly by Jay Gatsby. Gatsby lives in West Egg,
and it represents new money and spending it on the newest, fanciest things. Since Gatsby has this new
money, he buys a lavish car that will end up ruining him. This elegant car was a rich cream color,
bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat boxes and
supper boxes and tool boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of wind shields that mirrored a dozen suns
(Fitzgerald 64). Gatsby s special car is a money boast for him. He wants to let everyone know that he

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, By Francis Scott...
The story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by Francis Scott Fitzgerald shows society s refusal of
accepting anyone out of the ordinary. The story is about a man named Benjamin Button who is born as
a 60 year old man. As he ages from the day he is born his body and brain grows younger and younger
until he eventually forgets everything he has achieved in life, has the brain of a newborn and then
fades into nothingness.
In the face of a remarkable occurrence the only thing that Button s community cares about is their
reputation kept through conformity, although having money can earn a higher place on the social
ladder. At first his family is shocked that Benjamin is their child, his Father says , My heavens! he

He does this to show that in 1860 and still today people care about being judged by society so much
that they try extremely hard to make themselves acceptable by following harsh and foolish
conformities and Fitzgerald thinks this is wrong. I agree with Fitzgerald s point of view, people should
care less about being examined by society and trying to fit in, and more about being their very best
selves because when people get too wrapped up in their appearance they forget who they really are.
Benjamin learns a great deal about life and society through the story. Such as learning to deal with
judgement and comments from society and also learning more about himself as a person. This made
me realise that I should also focus less about what others judge me on and focus more on how I can
challenge myself and grow bigger as a person.
I found the story, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button very inspirational. Fitzgerald shows society s
refusal of accepting anyone out of the ordinary in a creative and intriguing story. It showed me how
society can affect people and how I can grow as a

The Brain That Cause Broca s Aphasia
The study of human communication in the physiological and in the psychological field are paramount
as they are understood as the basis of mankind. As a collective human race, people have been able to
evolve due to the ability to talk and to listen, which eventually lead to reading and writing. Linguistics
allows for the recording and collecting of historical documents and data that has been passed down to
generations as a form of knowledge. Conversational exchanges are a significant way one can indicate
to the other some sort of behavioral response; whether it be asking for an object or for assistance in
performing a task. Also in an instance where one is asked a pedagogical question, there is a given
window for a response that prompts learning. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ability to do so is achieved through a compilation of neurons in the superior temporal gyrus
within the left hemisphere of the brain, and this lesion is known as Wernicke s area. The type of
aphasia associated with this area is known as Wernicke s aphasia, which is identified as the opposite of
Broca s aphasia: being that poor speech and fluent meaningless utterances are prevalent in patients
with Wernicke s aphasia. Due to damage in the brain s Wernicke area or a fracture in within the
auditory system, a patient may develop pure word deafness. This type of deafness allows patients to
hear however they are unable to process the meaning of linguistic speech. Transcortical sensory
aphasia is a type of disorder which links the Broca and Wernicke areas of the brain: patients with this
speech problem typically can follow repetition but cannot produce meaningful speech on their own.
The connecting fibers of axons that link the two lesions of the brain that cause transcortical damage
are the arcuate fasciculus neurons. Another sort of aphasia is conduction, where the patient is unable
to speak words through repetition but they can speak normally and understand the speech of others.
Anomic aphasia is where the patient has difficulty choosing the correct word to use in order to prompt
controversial exchanges: they use what is known as circumlocution and that is the

Obesity Is An Increasing Problem All Over The World And...
Obesity is an increasing problem all over the world and its prevalence differs from one area to another.
According to World health Organization (WHO) obesity is defined as body mass index (BMI) of
30kg/m2 or more.1
It was reported that the proportion of obesity in surgical patients is greater than general population.2
This means that anesthesiologists are going to deal with increased number of obese patients whose
airway management is one of their own responsibilities. Endotracheal intubation is more difficult in
obese than in lean patients.3 Difficult tracheal intubation is defined by the American Society of
Anesthesiologists (ASA) as tracheal intubation requiring multiple attempts in the presence or absence
of tracheal pathology.4 1 Failure of tracheal intubation is one of the major causes of morbidity and
mortality during anesthesia.5,6
Consequently, the use of new tools that increase the success of tracheal intubation, particularly in
settings of potentially difficult intubation, can have a profound clinical impact.
The LMA CTrach® is a modified intubating laryngeal mask airway, which incorporates an inbuilt

W H Auden On A Tyrant Essay
The W.H. Auden of the 1930s is quite a different man compared to his to his 1940s counterpart. Not
only did his personal viewpoints and opinions dramatically change, but his but the subjects of his
poems also demonstrated a marked shift. Characterized by powerful political rhetoric, his earlier work
may appear to have little in common with his later poems, which examined religious themes.
However, while the subject matter of Auden s work changes, his poems consistently forcing the
audience to reexamine their own world views. The vast majority of Auden s earlier work revolves
around the political upheaval he witnessed as a young man. His travels took him from Spain to China

As time went on, Auden gradually distanced himself from his political poems. He felt that they were
inherently dishonest, and comprised the integrity of the relationship between reader and poet by
forcing the reader to accept only one interpretation of a political event: the poet s own personal
opinion. Coupled with Auden s increasing personal spirituality, this caused the focus of his poems to
shift from politics to religion and morality. He was an observant Christian, though he only practices
the aspects of the faith that focused on betterment of mankind. He felt that like church doctrines, like
all human creations, were subject to judgment (Mendelson). This opinion is especially prominent in
his poem Victor . His protagonist had been raised in a devoutly religious environment. Throughout his
life, Victor continues to live according to the rules and regulation laid forth in the Bible. Auden uses
the concept of time as an extended metaphor to relay Victor s emotional state. As a young man in
frosty December , there is no life around Victor, and everything is bleak. His life bears no color, much
like the cold winter itself; he has his strict religious rules and nothing more. However, the deep cold
begins to slowly ebb away as April comes around. Winter concedes to spring as the beautiful Anna
brings life and vibrancy to Victor s previously barren world. He immediately falls for her, as she

Major Influences Affecting Political Attitudes
1. I believe the three major influences that affect the origins of political attitudes are family, gender,
and education. I believe that family has a major impact because those are the people you grow up
around. Gender is important because women tend to support the nominee that supports more women
issues than the competing nominee. In the book, it states since the late 1960s they [women] have been
more likely to be Democrats . Also, education plays a role because more educated people are more
likely to know the issues and what vote would have the most benefit to society compared to someone
who didn t attend school and being less educated. But I believe the most important issue is family
because since your parents raised you, you are

Audre Lorde s Essay On Intersectionality
Audre Lorde s essay on intersectionality highlights the point that there is not a single issue fight
because we do not live day to day with our single issue lives (Lorde, pg 654). Acknowledging that we
are beneath the dominant class is important to reconstruct the structural power. Intersectionality
requires power that fortifies how our differences come together on both an individual level an a
collective foundation. There are many issues we tend not to even look at because the women that it
affects usually have always been overlooked for the dominant groups oppressed world (Lorde, pg

The babysitter responds with it s the law, you know. So God is protecting me. This response brings up
the concept that Muslim women are childlike needing to be saved. An intersectional translation of
islamophobic misogyny. I believe this scene particularly highlights the point that gender trumps
religious faith and ethnicity. Johnson Reagon says that a coalition is not a home and should not feel

The Major Roles Of A Primary Teacher
What are the major roles of a Primary Teacher?
Defining the roles and duties of a Primary Teacher can be quite difficult. Gipps et al. (2000) define
teaching as: a diverse, complex activity with no clear rules except that the teacher should teach and the
children should learn. (Gipps et al. 2000 p.4).
The roles of a primary teacher may be decided by what we believe is effective teaching. The idea of
how children should be taught and how children learn has changed over time. Gipps (1992) examines
how contributions from theorists change the way we look at children s development and learning. She
proposes that there are two main types of models of learning, constructivist and transmission and goes
on to suggest that the roles a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this perspective, Carroll suggests the role of the teacher is not to hand down information but to
support children s learning and help them reach higher attainment levels than they would if they were
working alone. Teachers must facilitate discussions to allow pupils to share and co construct meanings
as well as organise problem solving activities. Carroll s writing further cements the point earlier
mention by Gipps (1992), suggesting the roles a teacher takes in the classroom depends on the theory
they follow. This can be seen as the roles a teacher performs when following either perspective are
very different.
Having good and substantial knowledge of relevant subjects is often stated in current literature and
documentation as a necessary factor for good and effective primary teaching. It is included in the
Department of Education (2011 p.11) Teachers Standards, where it is stated that teachers should have
secure subject and curriculum knowledge, and be able to inspire pupils into developing their own
learning and knowledge. A report from Ofsted (2009) looking into the connection between high
quality teaching and subject knowledge in primary education, showed that where lessons were deemed
satisfactory, the teachers weakness in their subject knowledge had negative effects on their pupils
achievement. Writing for the Times Educational Supplement, Morrison (2014) suggests that subject
knowledge is the most important factor for successful teaching in

The house that built me
Never in a million years did I think that I would be moving out of my house in Iowa Falls. Growing

When you would approach my house you would notice a large evergreen tree sitting right outside our

names as McDonald s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Popeye s, Burger King, Starbucks and the like. They
all fulfill a service which the general public supposedly needs. From a simple fried chicken leg, to a
strong cup of specialized coffee, or even a set of bed linens, they all serve a general purpose. Each one
supplies the public with goods and services at a cheaper price.
The people or individuals who purchase a franchise also have to follow certain rules and regulations
which are presented to them in the form of a binding contract.
The accounting field also plays a major part in such transactions and the everyday life of a franchise.
Everyone needs to be informed of how much income a franchise is taking in as well as what the
myriad of expenses are. These expenses include how much they have to pay out in wages, inventory
costs, insurance, rent, repair and upkeep, along with all the matters concerning taxation and billing.
Sometimes things work out properly and everything is kept strictly honest while at other times illegal
situations arise.
My paper will be a brief explanation regarding how crime is and is not committed within a franchise.
First will be a brief discussion that defines a franchise and the obligations of both the franchisee and
franchiser. I will then discuss three recent accounting crimes, look at how the people in the industry
feel about such matters, and

Release Me from My Prison Essay
It felt like to me as if the days seemed to trudge on, never getting anywhere. I sat up at my desk and
checked on my Company e mail again as I d been doing about twice a minute for the past two hours.
All of the mail that had collected overnight had been dealt with and there was little left to do, though I
couldn t go home for another hour and a half. I got up and began to pace around my office. The walls
of the office were done in a tan color that contrasted with the short, dark brown carpeting. The desk
was made of maple and simply had a computer on top of it along with a phone restricted to inter office
communication. There was a short, grey, three drawer filing cabinets in the corner, a black leather
executive chair behind the desk, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Company took no chances with a man as high up as Soy. The office contained two stern looking
grey metal chairs across a grey metal desk with Soy, in a grey suit, sitting behind it in a high backed
grey metal chair. There was a small grey metal lamp on the desk illuminating the files in two neat
piles on the desk; one was labeled outgoing and the other incoming. There was a grey metal filing
cabinet behind the desk also. The only real source of color in the room came from an ancient blue
Navajo rug in the middle of the office. Aside from these few pieces of furniture, there was nothing else
in the room, and it conveyed the exact feeling Soy wanted it to, that of a prison. Soy waived me to one
of the chairs across the desk from him, and I obeyed, for one did not disobey Soy. A situation has
arisen in Idaho, he told me as I sat down. One of our agents has become... he paused as he appeared to
be choosing his words carefully, estranged from communication. She was on a vital reconnaissance
assignment checking into one of our competitors. What we need from you is an extraction. You ll be
flying immediately out to Boise to meet up with Quinoa to organize the extraction. Be careful, Barley,
he warned me, which is something Soy never does, though there seems to be something he is holding
back from me. We need this to go off without a hitch and get Oat back here alive. He slid an envelope

Battleship Potemkin And The Russian Revolution
A revolution is something that s very common in history of any country. The only thing that separates
a Revolution is the difference in reason and purpose of settling a dispute between either a country or a
city. In Russian History there was a revolution that set a new standard of fighting for a new rule. This
Russian Revolution took place from March 1917 until November 1917 in the Russian Empire. The
Russian people were tired of the imperial power of Tsarist leaders and they wanted to overthrow
power. Two films made in 1925 portrayed the Revolution through silent films Battleship Potemkin and
Aelita: Queen of Mars. Both films were produced mainly for showing the people what was going on
in society. This form of entertainment was highly recommended because of the lack of the Television
and Radio production during the time.
In the film production Battleship Potemkin, Sergei Eisenstein makes many eye opening points
throughout the film. The first point I would like to address is at the beginning of the film when the
soldiers are all on the deck. There is meat hanging up and as the men are inspecting it they have found
that the meat is rotten. Viewing their responses from this instance shows that this is not the first
incident with them getting rotten meat. One of the sailors response to this situation was We are tired of
rotten meat1 . While this is taking place the ship s Doctor comes and inspects the meat and sees the
maggots and tells the soldiers that Sailors were

China: Torn Apart Or Mended By The Rule Of Mao Zedong
There is controversy whether the rule of Mao Zedong was beneficial or destructive, though by looking
into the depths of history the answer is revealed. As Mao Zedong took control over China on October
1, 1949, he immediately installed many reformations to China s economy, culture, and government.
These reformations proved to be devastating towards the people of China. After decolonization Mao
Zedong s enforcement of communism and international isolation lead China into attempting
industrialization by imposing labor intensive methods, and preventing China from technologically
advancing.
During the beginning of the twentieth century China had become a republic after the rule of Sun ...

However, Chiang s decision to focus his military on the Communists turned out to be a poor choice
because, while the Chinese were occupied with their internal conflicts, the Japanese set up the puppet
state of Manchukuo in 1932 ( China ). The invasion of Japan was devastating for China; civilians were
murdered, raped, tortured, military groups were destroyed, and the government went bankrupt. The
Sino Japanese war finally ended when Tokyo surrendered to the Allies in 1945 at the end of World
War II (Kenley, Republican China ). This lead to the continuation of conflict between the Guomindang
and the Communists. The war turned in favor of the communists, forcing Chiang and his followers to
retreat to the island province of Taiwan (Kenley, Republican China ). On October 1, 1949, Mao
Zedong proclaimed the People s Republic of China after taking domination over China s mainland
(Kenley, Republican China ). Mao Zedong continued to rule China under Communist rule and started
to transform the former Republican China.
Due to Mao s aspirations of industrialization and modernization, the Chinese leader drastically
devastated the working class by enforcing collectivization and labor intensive methods. In order to
achieve Mao s vision, to forbid privately owned plots and to push all farmers into agricultural
collectives Mao,

The French and Indian War and the American Revolution
At a surface level, historical accounts of The French and Indian War and the American Revolution are
presented as wars between two sides: The British versus the French and the British verus the
Americans, respectively. In each war the aforementioned opposing sides held the most crucial roles in
each battle that these wars lead to. However, in this essay I will argue the crucial role of allies of each
victorious side and how they were incredbily useful to the defeats of the British in the wildnerness in
1755 during Braddock s defeat and in Yorktown, Virginia in 181 durng Cornwallis s defeat.
Discussing the former, I will argue the importance of the Native American s as allies to France and
with the latter, the significance of the French as allies to the Americans. The aim of this essay is not to
argue that without their allies, the French and the Americans would not have won the battles but that
because they did have these allies, their victories occured faster, easier and with less conflict that if
they had fought without allies. Braddock s defeat in 1755 occured during the French and Indian War
which involved British and French armies battling for land possession in North America. The
commander of British forces in America, General Edward Braddock, was to lead 2,200 British troops
to capture Fort Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Heavily outnumbered by British troops, the
French army were not in a position to defend Fort Duquense without help, nor would they have even

Achieving Conservation Goals With Urbanizing Landscapes
Synopsis: Achieving Conservation goals with Urbanizing Landscapes
Goal of the Study: To help Conservation biology realize that they need to embrace urbanizing
ecosystems; to consider designing a protected area of network in NJ highlands; to apply the costs of
obtaining land and integrating this land into a protected urban area and to observe the performance of
a long stand preserved urban area in central university in terms of its biodiversity protection.
Rationale: Urban areas should not be ignored because they hold a surprisingly high number of native
species, some of which are very much of conservation concern. At time conservation biologist think
about what areas are the best areas that will allow them to conserve as much species ... Show more

In 1996 to 2004, State0wide voters accepted a budget of $11.4 billion dollars to fund many urban land
conservation projects. During this vote, New Jersey accounted for over 75% of this funding. Major
motivations include preserving local biodiversity in an urbanizing environment and protecting
important populations or rare species. Professor Lockwood realized that 17 species found in the area
were rapidly declining, such as Least flycatcher, field sparrow and cerulean warbler. Professor
Lockwood made it her goal to find an urban area that would allow these bird species to thrive, and
affordable cost of acquiring the land.
Methods: Professor Lockwood used distribution maps from MAxent software for each of the 17
species of birds and then overlaid these distribution maps unto the maps of land use/land cover in the
study region. In order to build a protected areas network in the New Jersey highlands that will provide
sufficient habitat for the 17 species, Professor Lockwood used an optimization algorithm.
Optimization algorithm often used in evolution studies and industrial. These are very well developed
for many situations in which the goal needs to be met at minimum costs. In this situation, the
Algorithm would search through the red dots of the species, looking to include those that satisfy
habitat needs for birds while minimizing the costs, such as

Al-Nakba 1948 Research Paper
Cut Out the Suffering
The year of Al Nakba 1948 was a critical year that affected the life of millions of Palestinians. In this
year, Palestinians were forced to immigrate to neighboring countries. Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria
contain a major number of Palestinian refugees; with the number of Palestinians in Lebanon doubling
because the war in Syria drove them there (Alwani, 2015). However, other Palestinians were able to
migrate into European countries, while others went to Arab gulf countries. Furthermore, unless the
Palestinians got the nationality of the country they live in they do not have but foreign civilian rights.
Palestinian refugees who live in Lebanon for more than 10 years should be granted the Lebanese
nationality to overcome the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, in Canada, the laws do not oblige the politicians to be of a specific sect or religion.
Maryam Monsef, an Islamic Canadian, of Afghan origins, was elected to represent the state of
Peterborough in Canada in 2015; Harjit Singh Sajjan, of Indian origins, baptized as a Sikh, is the
Minister of National Defense of Canada. These are examples of politicians from one of the most
industrialized and advanced countries that do not restrict political positions for specific people that
belong to a particular sect or religion. This fact that Canada has this variety in their regime did not
affect their progress; on the contrary, this is thought to be a kind of development and enhancement to
their political system. As can be seen, preventing Palestinians form gaining the Lebanese nationality is
not the solution to prevent the imbalance in the system from arising; the problem is in the sectarian
regime which tightens the chances of development for both the Lebanese and the Palestinian

Essay on Genocide in Rwanda
Genocide in Rwanda
Raphael Lemkin coined the term genocide in 1944. According to Lemkin, genocide signifies the
destruction of a nation or of an ethnic group and implies the existence of a coordinated plan, aimed at
total extermination, to be put into effect against individuals chosen as victims purely, simply, and
exclusively because they are members of the target group. This coordinated plan is committed with the
intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. According to the
United Nations definition of genocide in their 1948 declaration of the Convention on the Prevention
and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, genocide is a crime under international law and classified
as such: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, genocide has the tendency to occur in rural societies that are communal, divided, and in
the mode of inequality and problematic issues. It also has the tendency to occur when the government
says that it is okay to resolve those problematic issues using violence. An example in which there was
a combination of racism, power struggles, and violence that all led to genocide is in the specific case
of Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi populations. Before colonial rule, the Tutsi were herdsmen and
came from the Nile Valley. They brought concepts of power, monarchy, and kingship to Rwanda. The
Tutsi took grazing lands from the Hutu, who were farmers, and lived among them. Gourevitch states
that this was the original inequality: cattle were a more valuable asset than produce #8230;and the
word Tutsi became synonymous with a political and economic elite (p. 48). The Tutsi, who were the
powers of Rwanda, also became the protectors of the Hutu because they were armed with weapons
and spears. Rwanda was certainly an unequal society, but the ethnic boundary was permeable.
Overtime, some Tutsi married Hutu. Also, Hutu farmers could, and did, become wealthy Tutsi and
acquired cattle as chiefs were incorporated into the ruling elite. Much authority was given to Hutu
chiefs and certain obligations were imposed on Tutsi administrators as well.
Colonial rule, however, transformed this

I Believe An Act Of Violence
In many cultures, the age of thirteen is considered to be an age of knowledge and awareness. Such as,
knowing right from wrong. At some point in a person s life they understand what it means to harm,
destroy, and kill. They re many cases where juveniles, guilty beyond all means, receive shortened
sentences. For example, a rich sixteen year old in Texas, kills four people while driving under the
influence, and receives only ten years probation (huffingtonpost.com) If it had been any anybody over
age, they would have gave them the twenty year incarceration. I believe an act of violence, is still an
act of violence. A murder is still a murder regardless of what the age may be. These young murderers,
rapist, drug dealers, and thieves are getting away with slaps on the wrists.
These Juveniles are smart. They have got to a point where they know if something happens, they re
tried as a juvenile and receive the delinquent sentence. Therefore, they are certain there sentences will
be reduced. Older gang members sometimes use there younger recruits to commit crimes, knowing
they will receive a shorter sentence than if they do it themselves. If you knew you could get away with
something, would you do it ? This is the state of mind juveniles are influenced to believe is true. It
makes juveniles careless to the fact that they have done something wrong. I believe a longer sentence
would discipline teens and do them just. Just ask one of the victim s families, do

  • 2. Outsiders In The Outsiders Society has always been separated into stereotypical groups. Now a days, those groups are represented by classes: lower, middle, and upper class. What about back then? During the 1960 s in Tulsa, Oklahoma; high school student Susan Eloise Hinton (S.E Hinton) writes a book called The Outsiders about the diverse groups in her town. Between the Greasers and the Socs, who are the real outsiders of the story? Though the groups are separated into privileged and unfortunate, the outsiders are the ones who unintentionally disassociate themselves with their social clicks by socializing with the opposite side and treating them respectfully. The Socs are prosperous teens whom live on the opulent side of town. They re thought to be smarter, sophisticated and less emotional than the Greasers, as shown throughout parts of the story: There were a lot of Socs in that class I get put into A classes because I m supposed to be smart and most of them thought it was pretty funny. (Document B); You re more emotional. We re sophisticated ... (Document C). The expectation of them is to be around other Socs, not to fraternize with someone who s classified as lower than them. Cherry Valance, a Soc, is an outsider because she feels comfortable talking with a younger Greaser named Ponyboy, who is also an outsider, about things she s never told anyone before: She smiled at me. I never told anyone that. I think you re the first person I ve ever really gotten through to. She was coming through to me all right, probably because I was a Greaser, and younger; she didn t have to keep her guard up with me. (Document C). It appears that Socs are invariably showing a fabricated persona to other Socs to exude their reputation: That was the truth. Socs were always behind a wall of aloofness, careful not to let their real selves show through. (Document C). The same is with another outsider, a Soc named Randy is afraid of being christened a coward if he flees a fight and he d resent himself if he didn t walk away. Randy feels that violence isn t going to solve any conflicts between the Greasers and the Socs, yet he thinks about staying for the sake of his respectability: but what can I do? I m marked chicken if I punk out at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Prehistory Of Human Existence The prehistory of human existence in Britain includes an outlook into the Stone Age which consisted of the lower Palaeolithic (Homo erectus), middle Palaeolithic (early Homo sapiens) as well as the upper Palaeolithic. While there are other species within the Homo genus such as the Homo rudolfensis, Homo habilis, Homo antecessor and the Homo ergaster, I intend to focus on the Homo erectus, Homo heidelbergensis and of course ancient Homo sapiens as I feel they have the closest connections to modern day humans. While Homo erectus and Homo heidelbergensis are relatively similar I am going to mainly define them as somewhat separate species to maintain the views of modern researchers. Most fossils now known as Homo heidelbergensis were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the strong similarities between the Homo heidelbergensis and the Homo erectus means there is some debate that there is no need to differentiate between the two and that it was Homo erectus who first reached Britain. The Homo erectus species were believed to have lived between about 1.89 million and 143 000 years ago. Through the study of fossil remains of these early humans archaeologists have gained evidence to show they were one of the first of the species to expand beyond Africa. While we do have evidence showing Homo heidelbergensis/erectus presence in Britain (for example Boxgrove) around 500 000 years it can be seen that they did not remain after this original arrival, glacial periods playing a large part in the dispersion of these early visitors. The middle Palaeolithic period was between approximately 300 000 and 45 000 years ago, the upper Palaeolithic being between approximately 45 000 and 10 000 years ago. The Homo sapien species was believed to have emerged during the middle Palaeolithic, more specifically around 195 000 years ago in Africa and these are seen to be the first humans to have eventually permanently inhabited Britain. Despite the evidence for homo sapien existence in Britain 400 000 years ago the presence of modern humans in Britain remained brief and sporadic. It has only been continuous since about 12,000 years ago. (Natural History Museum) The homo sapien species is therefore the species us ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Basic Principles Of Biological Criminology The basic principle of biological criminology comes from the belief people are born criminal through genetic inheritance or physiological predisposition to crime as written by Mclaughlin and Muncie (2013, p. 26). Early theorists such as Cesare Lombroso identified criminals by their distinctive physical features such as by their Large cheekbones, thick eyebrows and flat nose . Lombroso (1897) claimed in his later work only a third of criminals were actually born criminal which means we should be able to spot a criminal by looking at them because of their features. Lombroso classified criminals into 4 major categories including born criminal . Studies have been carried out to isolate the genetic factor and theory assuming people are born criminals due to genetic inheritance. The types of research that were carried out to test whether we inherit criminal genes which cause us to offend are twins studies (identical and fraternal), adoptees and family studies. Several attempts were made to test biological and genetic theories. A study of 3000 prisoners in London in 1910 s found a strong link between criminality of spouses and between children, siblings and their parents. It was then greatly argued that criminality was passed down through an individual s inherited genes. Further study from the Cambridge study in Delinquent Development established in 1960 s suggested crime did run in families. Studies showed the link between one convicted family member leading to another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The creator utilizes tons of imagery in the story that may be difficult to perceive. The most typical thing that shows up in The Lottery is the black box. This box is an image for those in the town since it is one of the main associations with the birthplace of the lottery. The shabby black box speaks to both the convention of the lottery and the illogic of the villagers dependability to it. The black box is almost unrepairable, with peices of wood sticking out, yet the villagers are unwilling to replace it. This is a part of the tradition, from which nobody wants to change. The lottery must occur simply along these lines since this is the way it s always been. The black box is a physical appearance of the villagers association with belief. Foreign Relations Between America And China Jimmy Ji AAS 390 How would you rate Xi Jinping s visit to the US (Sept.24 25) on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is utter failure and 10 is an unqualified success ? Provide detailed reasons in support of your answer On September 25th, 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a state visit to the United States in a gesture meant to reciprocate United States President Barack Obama s trip to Beijing last November in 2014. The visit served as an opportunity to bolster US China relations and cooperation among a variety of global and bilateral issues, endeavoring to close their discord and strive for progress. It also served as a strategic move to improve the relationship between America and China so that they stay on track with their Bilateral Investment Treaty negotiations. The two leaders both addressed issues such as China s alleged cyberespionage, military relations, people to people exchange, and China s act of intimidation in the off the Alaskan coast. Moreover, Xi Jinping intended to meet with American tech leaders with a desire to boost the economies of both nations. The question at hand is the measure of success this visit and to what extent it lived up to its intention of expanding and deepening cooperation . If I were to put this visit up to a scale of 1 to 10, I d rate it a 7/10 which is what I d like to call success with caution . • 11. Three Things Learned From Plato s Apology Apologies Are the New Teachers (Three things Learned from Plato s Apology) There are many writers, authors, and speakers in this world that are considered among the greats, but perhaps the greatest two of western speculation are Plato and Socrates. These two hand in hand had a huge influence on American Literature and others as well. Perhaps one of the most remarkable writings of Plato, since Socrates never once himself wrote anything down, is his writing of Apology. The writings of Apology showed some of Socrates final moments, how he carried himself, and most importantly what he said. Socrates was perhaps one of the most intellectual and perceptive minds that ever lived this life, and he had many important ideas and most specifically questions. There are many important things to be derived and learned from the writings of Plato, and voice of Socrates. From Plato s Apology I learned three important things; how to question society, how to defend oneself with poise, and most importantly, That the unexamined life is not worth living. according to Socrates. To begin, one of the important things i learned from Plato s Apology is that it s okay to question society. Socrates himself questioned everyone, questioned the mind, made his pupils think, which is why I think one of the most important things to take away from this piece is how he made you think, how he questioned everything that you thought was stable until you realize that nothing around is actually even set in ... • 12. Why Is Laerte A Noble Nobility is a trait that many men seem to desire. It is not necessarily genetic nor can one purchase it like other traits, such as clothing, but rather is earned demonstrated. What makes one noble is not easily determined, despite being the desire of many individuals. Whether it is nobler, more honorable, and more admirable to live on one s knees or to die on one s feet has been a source of debate for centuries. In his tragic play Hamlet, William Shakespeare proves that it is nobler for one to die for what he believes in than to live in inaction. Laertes was noble because he died for his cause, avenging his father s death and defending his father s honor, but he would not have been had he not sought revenge. Towards the end of the play, Laertes returns from France upon hearing that his father died, but he misses the funeral because of its haste. • 13. Analysis Of Piano And Snake Piano and Snake in D.H Lawrence s representations express an inner conflict; the troubles they face are based upon distinct and similar reasons, they want an escape to their present state. Piano and Snake in D.H Lawrence s representations express an inner conflict; the troubles they face are for distinct and similar reasons; they want an escape to their present state. The interpretation received when analyzing Piano was that the narrator himself was having a troublesome time because he aspired something that was nostalgically unreachable for him, his childhood. What caused this inclination to be unreachable was due to the time passing which resulted in him becoming an adult and conforming to the constitutional systems. Snake s narrator s inner distress came from the need to break down the structural voices and principles that educational systems had constructed upon him. Both narrators have heavily built up emotions for the want of liberation from the prisons that confine them to the structures meant for them; their desires although differing in context are similar in topic matter. There are in fact differences in what they long for, but there is no doubt that they do desire something different from what they presently have. Both Poems are faced with the problematic situation of inner hassle. Piano s narrator struggles with his oppression of his emotions in sentimentality. • 14. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Prokaryotes All living organisms on Earth are classified within three domains Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya. Bacteria and Archaea encompass a generalised classification known as the prokaryotes. This definition follows the extensive similarities between the two domains, such as their manner of gene expression, their fundamental metabolic pathways, as well as their lack of membrane bound organelles, and compartmentalisation. Due to the cellular compartmentalisation that eukaryotes exhibit, as well as more complex modes of metabolism and replication, prokaryotes are generally considered to be the precursors to eukaryotic cells. One of the other defining characteristics of eukaryotic cells that allow for multicellularity to occur is the presence of a complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is therefore suggested that MreB and actin originated from a common ancestor, as so, further suggests that actin was a result of MreB divergence in eukaryotes. Bacterial MreB functions in maintaining the shape of the bacterial cell, whereby MreB assembles into filaments which display an extensive structural resemblance to actin. The divergence of MreB in eukaryotic cells is seen to be similar to the divergence of FtsZ to tubulin, where MreB acquired new functions as eukaryotes evolved. These new functions included the ability to perform cell division specific to eukaryotic cells, cell movement through pseudopodia, and phagocytosis. Phagocytosis is postulated to have been a central step in the success of eukaryotic evolution, as the ability to engulf other organisms such as bacteria and archaea led to eukaryotes becoming predators. The ability to perform predation contributed heavily to the survival of the eukaryotic line, as it reduced competition. Phagocytosis also allowed for the engulfment of cyanobacteria and other bacteria which contributed to endosymbiosis, further increasing the complexity of eukaryotic cells. In order to perform phagocytosis, eukaryotic cells would have had to remove their inflexible cell wall, a remnant of their prokaryotic ancestors. The remaining plasma membrane would have allowed for increased flexibility and the ability to project towards the prey, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. To Kill A Mockingbird Chapter 5 Analysis I chose the vocabulary words emboldened (courage), and apprehension (anxiety or fear something bad or unpleasant will happen). The reason they apply to comprehending chapter 5 and the book is because courage is a major characteristic of the underdog, and without it they become the average person who is unable to overcome disadvantages exceedingly well. In particular courage was a key aspect in the way Freirich approached the children with leukemia. In contrast, apprehension is a quality that the underdog is not familiar with, alternatively it is a trait of a person who is not willing to take risks, chances, think outside of the box, or oppose the norm . Hence, the difference between these two qualities is a major factor when considering the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Gladwell painted a good picture of the sorrow felt due to the severity of the affects on the children from drugs, procedures, and imminent death more often than not. Gladwell gave extensive detail to drive the point home of how audacious it was not to think outside of the box or form an unconvential strategy to help save these childrens lives. In order to really understand the general atmosphere, which appeared to be morgue like; the attitudes of the doctors who worked on that ward issuing death sentences providing no hope to their patients needed to be made crystal clear. Otherwise, it would be difficult for your average person who has empathy to understand some of Freirichs approaches as they were viewed as haineous and unempathetic. Even though Freirich did not possess a great amount of bedside manner, he did have empathy for the continued torture that the children were experiencing; relative to his childhood. Freirich could empathize because he also had a tormented period of life, his ability to emotionally express this was void. In essence the lack of affection as a child affected his genteel nature in adulthood. Freirich is able to handle these factors in the Cancer ward because he immediately began attempting to conform to the heinous conditions by finding a resolution or way to improve the statistics. The difference in Freirich and your average person is his resilience in opposing the giants in these circumstances despite the consequences. Once again similar to the underdog strategies used in previous chapters such as Randadive and Boeis; different unique strategies are utilized to overcome disadvantages attaining success in impossible ... • 22. Effects Of Money In The Great Gatsby Does money truly give us what we want? Having vast amounts of money may be a dream to various people and characters within The Great Gatsby chase this dream without realizing consequences. People do not understand that with money, comes problems and there are often dreadful things about the wealthy that does not appear at first. Just like characters in The Great Gatsby, people in the real world do not realize there is corruption in the rich and that money will bring you more problems than solutions. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald creates the worlds of East Egg and West Egg as representations of the idea that money creates illusions, and part of this idea is further developed by Fitzgerald s use of Gatsby s car, Tom and the character s homes. Having money and dreaming to be a wealthy person is an illusion. In The Great Gatsby the idea that money is directly related to corruption is exhibited perfectly by Jay Gatsby. Gatsby lives in West Egg, and it represents new money and spending it on the newest, fanciest things. Since Gatsby has this new money, he buys a lavish car that will end up ruining him. This elegant car was a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat boxes and supper boxes and tool boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of wind shields that mirrored a dozen suns (Fitzgerald 64). Benjamin learns a great deal about life and society through the story. Such as learning to deal with judgement and comments from society and also learning more about himself as a person. This made me realise that I should also focus less about what others judge me on and focus more on how I can challenge myself and grow bigger as a person. As time went on, Auden gradually distanced himself from his political poems. He felt that they were inherently dishonest, and comprised the integrity of the relationship between reader and poet by forcing the reader to accept only one interpretation of a political event: the poet s own personal opinion. Coupled with Auden s increasing personal spirituality, this caused the focus of his poems to shift from politics to religion and morality. He was an observant Christian, though he only practices the aspects of the faith that focused on betterment of mankind. He felt that like church doctrines, like all human creations, were subject to judgment (Mendelson). This opinion is especially prominent in his poem Victor . His protagonist had been raised in a devoutly religious environment. Throughout his life, Victor continues to live according to the rules and regulation laid forth in the Bible. Auden uses the concept of time as an extended metaphor to relay Victor s emotional state. As a young man in frosty December , there is no life around Victor, and everything is bleak. His life bears no color, much like the cold winter itself; he has his strict religious rules and nothing more. However, the deep cold begins to slowly ebb away as April comes around. In the book, it states since the late 1960s they [women] have been more likely to be Democrats . (2000) define teaching as: a diverse, complex activity with no clear rules except that the teacher should teach and the children should learn. (Gipps et al. 2000 p.4). The roles of a primary teacher may be decided by what we believe is effective teaching. The idea of how children should be taught and how children learn has changed over time. Carroll s writing further cements the point earlier mention by Gipps (1992), suggesting the roles a teacher takes in the classroom depends on the theory they follow. While returning to friendly lines CM3 Shields was wounded a third and final time (HistoryLink, n.d.). CM3 Marvin Glenn Shields received The Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic actions. He was the first Seabee to earn the Nation s highest award, and the first Navy person to earn this award for action in Vietnam (Seabee, 2014). His actions personify the Navy s Core Values of honor, courage, and commitment. The events of the past help us shape the needs of the future and allow us to better train and motivate our personnel. If you add salt to ice with a bit of water it can lower the freezing point of water lowering the temperature enough for it to melt and keep it from freezing again. The salt can lower the freezing point of ice through a process that is called freezing point depression. This works by the ice starting to melt which is making, then if you add the salt, the salt dissolves the water by adding ions that increase the temperature. With the using of salt, it helps melting icy driveways because salt lowers the freezing point of ice. What temperature is the freezing point of water? The freezing point of water is 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Its freezing point is also known as 0 degrees Celsius. A 10% of the salt solution was to lower the melting point to 6°C (20°F) and a 20% salt solution was said to lower it to 16°C ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Success Of The Franchise Industry The franchise industry is an industry that is highly visible to the public eye; mainly because of such names as McDonald s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Popeye s, Burger King, Starbucks and the like. They all fulfill a service which the general public supposedly needs. From a simple fried chicken leg, to a strong cup of specialized coffee, or even a set of bed linens, they all serve a general purpose. Each one supplies the public with goods and services at a cheaper price. The people or individuals who purchase a franchise also have to follow certain rules and regulations which are presented to them in the form of a binding contract. The accounting field also plays a major part in such transactions and the everyday life of a franchise. Everyone needs to be informed of how much income a franchise is taking in as well as what the myriad of expenses are. These expenses include how much they have to pay out in wages, inventory costs, insurance, rent, repair and upkeep, along with all the matters concerning taxation and billing. Sometimes things work out properly and everything is kept strictly honest while at other times illegal situations arise. My paper will be a brief explanation regarding how crime is and is not committed within a franchise. First will be a brief discussion that defines a franchise and the obligations of both the franchisee and franchiser. I sat up at my desk and checked on my Company e mail again as I d been doing about twice a minute for the past two hours. All of the mail that had collected overnight had been dealt with and there was little left to do, though I couldn t go home for another hour and a half. I got up and began to pace around my office. The walls of the office were done in a tan color that contrasted with the short, dark brown carpeting. The desk was made of maple and simply had a computer on top of it along with a phone restricted to inter office communication. There was a grey metal filing cabinet behind the desk also. The only real source of color in the room came from an ancient blue Navajo rug in the middle of the office. • 42. Battleship Potemkin And The Russian Revolution A revolution is something that s very common in history of any country. The only thing that separates a Revolution is the difference in reason and purpose of settling a dispute between either a country or a city. In Russian History there was a revolution that set a new standard of fighting for a new rule. This Russian Revolution took place from March 1917 until November 1917 in the Russian Empire. The Russian people were tired of the imperial power of Tsarist leaders and they wanted to overthrow power. Two films made in 1925 portrayed the Revolution through silent films Battleship Potemkin and Aelita: Queen of Mars. Both films were produced mainly for showing the people what was going on in society. This form of entertainment was highly recommended because of the lack of the Television and Radio production during the time. In the film production Battleship Potemkin, Sergei Eisenstein makes many eye opening points throughout the film. The first point I would like to address is at the beginning of the film when the soldiers are all on the deck. There is meat hanging up and as the men are inspecting it they have found that the meat is rotten. Viewing their responses from this instance shows that this is not the first incident with them getting rotten meat. One of the sailors response to this situation was We are tired of rotten meat1 . Chin Torn Apart Or Mended By The Rule Of Zedong China: Torn Apart Or Mended By The Rule Of Mao Zedong There is controversy whether the rule of Mao Zedong was beneficial or destructive, though by looking into the depths of history the answer is revealed. These reformations proved to be devastating towards the people of China. After decolonization Mao Zedong s enforcement of communism and international isolation lead China into attempting industrialization by imposing labor intensive methods, and preventing China from technologically advancing. • 44. The French and Indian War and the American Revolution At a surface level, historical accounts of The French and Indian War and the American Revolution are presented as wars between two sides: The British versus the French and the British verus the Americans, respectively. In each war the aforementioned opposing sides held the most crucial roles in each battle that these wars lead to. However, in this essay I will argue the crucial role of allies of each victorious side and how they were incredbily useful to the defeats of the British in the wildnerness in 1755 during Braddock s defeat and in Yorktown, Virginia in 181 durng Cornwallis s defeat. Discussing the former, I will argue the importance of the Native American s as allies to France and with the latter, the significance of the French as allies to the Americans. The aim of this essay is not to argue that without their allies, the French and the Americans would not have won the battles but that because they did have these allies, their victories occured faster, easier and with less conflict that if they had fought without allies. Braddock s defeat in 1755 occured during the French and Indian War which involved British and French armies battling for land possession in North America. The commander of British forces in America, General Edward Braddock, was to lead 2,200 British troops to capture Fort Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1996 to 2004, State0wide voters accepted a budget of $11.4 billion dollars to fund many urban land conservation projects. During this vote, New Jersey accounted for over 75% of this funding. Major motivations include preserving local biodiversity in an urbanizing environment and protecting important populations or rare species. Professor Lockwood realized that 17 species found in the area were rapidly declining, such as Least flycatcher, field sparrow and cerulean warbler. Professor Lockwood made it her goal to find an urban area that would allow these bird species to thrive, and affordable cost of acquiring the land. Methods: Professor Lockwood used distribution maps from MAxent software for each of the 17 species of birds and then overlaid these distribution maps unto the maps of land use/land cover in the study region. In order to build a protected areas network in the New Jersey highlands that will provide sufficient habitat for the 17 species, Professor Lockwood used an optimization algorithm. Optimization algorithm often used in evolution studies and industrial. These are very well developed for many situations in which the goal needs to be met at minimum costs. In this situation, the Algorithm would search through the red dots of the species, looking to include those that satisfy habitat needs for birds while minimizing the costs, such as ... These are examples of politicians from one of the most industrialized and advanced countries that do not restrict political positions for specific people that belong to a particular sect or religion. • 47. Essay on Genocide in Rwanda Genocide in Rwanda Raphael Lemkin coined the term genocide in 1944. According to Lemkin, genocide signifies the destruction of a nation or of an ethnic group and implies the existence of a coordinated plan, aimed at total extermination, to be put into effect against individuals chosen as victims purely, simply, and exclusively because they are members of the target group. This coordinated plan is committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. According to the United Nations definition of genocide in their 1948 declaration of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, genocide is a crime under international law and classified as such: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, genocide has the tendency to occur in rural societies that are communal, divided, and in the mode of inequality and problematic issues. It also has the tendency to occur when the government says that it is okay to resolve those problematic issues using violence. An example in which there was a combination of racism, power struggles, and violence that all led to genocide is in the specific case of Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi populations. Before colonial rule, the Tutsi were herdsmen and came from the Nile Valley. They brought concepts of power, monarchy, and kingship to Rwanda. The Tutsi took grazing lands from the Hutu, who were farmers, and lived among them. Gourevitch states that this was the original inequality: cattle were a more valuable asset than produce #8230;and the word Tutsi became synonymous with a political and economic elite (p. 48). The Tutsi, who were the powers of Rwanda, also became the protectors of the Hutu because they were armed with weapons and spears. Rwanda was certainly an unequal society, but the ethnic boundary was permeable. Overtime, some Tutsi married Hutu. Also, Hutu farmers could, and did, become wealthy Tutsi and acquired cattle as chiefs were incorporated into the ruling elite. Much authority was given to Hutu chiefs and certain obligations were imposed on Tutsi administrators as well. Colonial rule, however, transformed this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. I Believe An Act Of Violence In many cultures, the age of thirteen is considered to be an age of knowledge and awareness. Such as, knowing right from wrong. At some point in a person s life they understand what it means to harm, destroy, and kill. They re many cases where juveniles, guilty beyond all means, receive shortened sentences. For example, a rich sixteen year old in Texas, kills four people while driving under the influence, and receives only ten years probation (huffingtonpost.com) If it had been any anybody over age, they would have gave them the twenty year incarceration. I believe an act of violence, is still an act of violence. A murder is still a murder regardless of what the age may be. These young murderers, rapist, drug dealers, and thieves are getting away with slaps on the wrists. These Juveniles are smart. They have got to a point where they know if something happens, they re tried as a juvenile and receive the delinquent sentence. Therefore, they are certain there sentences will be reduced. Older gang members sometimes use there younger recruits to commit crimes, knowing they will receive a shorter sentence than if they do it themselves. If you knew you could get away with something, would you do it ? This is the state of mind juveniles are influenced to believe is true. It makes juveniles careless to the fact that they have done something wrong. I believe a longer sentence would discipline teens and do them just. Just ask one of the victim s families, do ...
