Aspects Of Transnational It Operations
Aspects of Transnational IT Operations
The social, economic, and technological market places are incorporating information technology
(IT) systems in many countries that support the activities of a business. Competition throughout
several industries have brought about many new changes, but specifically, a growth of transnational
opportunities. A transnational business conducts operations in several countries with varying
degrees of coordination and integration of strategy and operations (Basu, n.d., para. 1).
Transnational operations provide companies a way to establish activities that add value to its
business. These activities include various world markets with national similarities as well as
national differences. A strategic managementplan should enhance the company s global vision,
sometimes with a modified effect for local markets. Transnational IT operations offer companies
many advantages, but with these rewards also come drawbacks.
Advantages
The following advantages of global networking can positively impact any company that is actively
involved in global marketing. These include:
Lower labor costs as the cost of living and labor are less expensive than in the United States
The use of external skill sets in other countries
Outsourcing repetitive and less challenging tasks to other countries
Business continuity across an entire network when potential issues arise
Continued support for customer service and satisfaction
Efficient network IT resources

Queer As Folk
Television has changed to include the LBGT community, but seldom do you see the Gay
community with HIV shown on television. This chapter covers a study about Gay undergraduate
males and the way it makes sense of HIV and its storyline on television. The study draws from
the fictional television series Queer as Folk, one of the highest rated programs on cable television.
First, the chapter begins by explaining the series Queer as Folk. This series is one wear lesbian and
gaymen and women live their lives, work, have good and bad days. During this series they do not
show HIV as a one time special occurrence, but as filtrated into the lives of the characters. During
the series loved ones were lost, and they discussed prevention. According to the text, there were
many critics due to the strong sexuality.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focus group believed the couple was a good looking couple before one of them revealed he
had HIV. The focus group said the attractiveness of the couple decreased when the HIV bomb
was dropped. One focus group member said having HIV was a deal breaker. The focus group
revealed that on the series they rarely seen the happy side of a person live with HIV. Generally
focus group members felt that shows like this help people understand that people living with
HIV are living with one more thing to deal with instead of always being consumed with the
possibility of death or illness (Dines and Humez). Ultimately, the focus group recognized though
they were initially entertained, they could appreciate education of the aspects of gay culture
including HIV awareness and prevention. The focus group had positive reviews of how the
storylines are presented. I will admit this summary took me a little bit out of my comfort zone. I do
realize there are all types of people in this world and we all deserve to be loved. I have never seen
Queer as Folk personally, but from the chapter reading it is very

Marginalizing Yunior s Footnotes
power of the fukГє, distinguishes his narrative from the profound precision that is typically
applied to history. This can be seen when Yunior rejects the supposed objectivity of history by
questioning, Where in coГ±azo do you think the so called cure of the Kennedys comes from?
How about Vietnam? Why do you think the greatest power in the world lost its first war to a Third
World country like Vietnam? (4) In this case, objective facts would be useless; without being
applied to the context of a narrative, facts possess no meaning. Rather, Yunior s employment of the

manipulation on hearsay disfigures the authoritative preference of fact over fiction, challenging the

First, imitating the literal separation of the marginalized text from the content of the body, Yunior
undoes the authority that Trujillo wrongfully gained through suppressing others by making him the
subject of a majority of the novel s footnotes. In doing so, Yunior establishes a reversal of roles
between Trujillo and the marginalized people of the Dominican Republic. In addition, Yunior s
inclusion of footnotes creates a double narrative containing the contesting authorial voices that are
found within the margins and in the main text. In addition to asserting the dangers of a single
voice, Yunior s use of footnotes enable him to neatly intertwine the historical facts of the Trujillo s
dictatorship with the fictional narrative of the Cabral family. This nuance between history and
narrative obscures the line between fact and fiction and allows Yunior to undermine the authority
associated with history s characteristics of being linear, singular, and

Dracula Essay
Written in 1897, the greatest horror book in its time was created, Dracula, by Bram Stocker. This
book contained different aspects of vampirism that was had associated itself with flight of the
imagination of romanticism. Freud s idea of psychoanalysis was basically intertwined with this
book, because his psychoanalytical reasoning s was based on this book. All human experiences of
morbid dread and aggressive wishes and in vampirism we see these repressed wishes becoming
plainly visible. Sigmund Freud. The way psychoanalysisand this book relate is how the Victorian
ideology affects the war how people think and act according to the situation. Such as many of the
characters in this book had suffered from the fog of confusion which they... Show more content on

This causes the people in the city and his wife to be, worried and quite curious about his
whereabouts. Another example of psychoanalysis was used in the novel would be when Dr.
Seward irrationalizes the situation of which Mina was transforming into a vampire. The reason
he ignores the symptoms of Mina, is because he believes that there has to be something else
wrong with her such as an infection. He does not realize that the same symptoms were noticed
on Lucy which goes along the lines of how Victorian ideology affects people in this time period.
Not only does it affect them but it may affect others as well. This caused the life of Lucy and
roughly Mina s; even though Mina s life was spared his job was basically put into question. His
beliefs have the better then him as of right now. The mindis like an iceberg, it floats with one
seventh of its bulk above water. This quote describes how the mind is still operational even when
only a small portion of it is still functioning. Dr. Van Helsing rather was a doctor that actually
thought rationally considering the others and was the only one that knew what was going on with
Lucy s illness . Dr. Seward as of right now is more of a threat to situation instead of helping
resolve this issue. Well basically the reason Victorian ideology, taking any part of the novel explains
the confusion and also the difficult situations. These beliefs have been somewhat dangerous,
because this is the

tooth decay and in tooth loss. Carrying on, NHS stressed more on workers having safer working

huge development in policies and methods that has significantly helped in decreasing workplace
accidents and safer working environments. Thirdly, they have also reduced salt targets in foods

The Possibility Of Evil Analysis
We all like to look at things that appeal our preferences. But sometimes, appearances can deceive
us, such as a good deal you may see. One common example would be online shopping. The price
that is offered upfront is very appealing, all until it comes down to the final cost after including
shipping and handling, taxes, or any other unmentioned expenses. Or maybe a movie that has an
interesting trailer, but the actual film as a whole was not as good as it appeared to be. Instead of
judging at first glance, one should first investigate and then make a decision after their analysis.
The main characters in the short stories Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahland, The Possibility
of Evil , by Shirley Jackson, should have known this lesson. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary
Maloney is a kind housewife this sweet who loves her husband dearly, but changes to a bitter and
angry widow after her husband leaves her. In The Possibility of Evil, Miss Strangeworth appears
to be a kind elderly lady, but behind close doors, she is the complete opposite. After reading both
stories, the readers learn that even though something may appear one way, it can turn out to be
something completely different than we expected. True colors are not always revealed at first sight.
In The Possibility of Evil, Shirley Jackson gives us a character who seems to be the town s
sweetest, most innocent, and is the longest established resident, but in reality is a nosy, dark
woman with a destructive

Descriptive Essay Day
Willow was excited to go to the beach with Evelyn. They were going to have a fun time there.
The day was sunny and hot. The water was going to be cool against their hot skin. There were
some clouds in the sky and a slight breeze. Evelyn parked her car and they both got out. When
they got to the end of the cement stairs, Willow started to run to a shady spot in a secluded part
of the beach. Evelyn started running to try to catch up. When they both got to the shade, Willow
threw down her t shirt, shorts, and towel onto the sand. Then she took off her sandals and set
them near her towel. Evelyn put her towel down then laid her shorts, shirt, and shoes on top of
it. I ve been wanting to swim for a few weeks. I m so glad that we chose to go today. It s a perfect
day for it. Evelyn said in an excited voice. I know. I haven t been able to come to the beach since
last summer. Let s go enjoy that ocean! said Willow. They started to jog towards the water with
joy. They could feel the hot sand burning their feet. It felt horrible but good at the same time.
Willow started to walk onto the wet sand then into the water. The water felt cool against her
burnt feet. She was thrilled to have a beach day. Willow was going to enjoy every second of it.
Evelyn ran into the water with pure joy. She had a big smile on her face when the water hit her
bare legs. They couldn t feel the breeze when they got deeper. The water started to get a little colder
each time the waves hit them. The sun was

According to the study done by Gallup, Inc. (2010), Businesses big and small are realizing the
importance of their role in the health and wellbeing of their employees. Healthy employees are
more productive, report higher job satisfaction and lead to higher employee retention rates. The
monetary benefits of providing for employees wellbeing are immense; and a comprehensive
corporate wellness plan can dramatically reduce health insurance costs and premiums, sick days and
employee turnover.
DISADVANTAGES The actual costs of implementing a wellness plan varies from company to
company, from provider to provider, and it also depends upon the type of plan implemented.
However, ScienceDaily (2010) reports that A Midwest utility company learned firsthand that it
pays to keep healthy employees fit, reaping a net savings of $4.8 million in employee health and
lost work time costs over nine years. Over the nine years, the utility company spent $7.3 million for
the program and showed $12.1 million in savings associated with participation. Medical and
pharmacy costs, time off and worker s compensation factored into the savings.

The Main Conflict Within the Administration of the Title IX
I consider myself quite the feminist. Likewise, if you believe that women should receive equal
rights to men, then you should consider yourself a feminist, too, and possibly look into the Title IX
law, because it is the epitome of feminist success. Since the passing of Title IX, the number of
women participating in intercollegiate sports from 1971 has more than quadrupled, going from
about 30,000 to more than 150,000 (Garber). Yet, astonishingly, it is far from my favorite
amendment to be passed by the federal government. This is because this law has morphed from a
well intentioned piece of legislation that helped to increase female athletic opportunities into an
obtrusive quota system that has begun to do more harm than good. Although Title IXhas helped in
the past to increase genderequality within collegiate sports, in recent years, enforcing its policies
has resulted in a decrease of support for male athletes.
The problem is not with the general law of Title IX itself, which simply states that any education
program receiving federal funding cannot discriminate based on gender ( Gender Equity 339): it
is the way that this law has been enforced. Although the entirety of the Title IX law pertains to a
number of aspects of educational institutions, a college s compliance requirements (that is, the
rules that must be met in order to be in conformity with the Title IX law) under the athletic portion
of Title IX boil down to three major prongs : 1. The proportion of female

(3) List the objectives of the pharmacokinetic study. What can we learn from studying drugs in the
selected population?
The objective of this pharmacokinetic study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of prucalopride
in individuals with renal impairment. By studying drugs in patients with renal impairment, a greater
understanding of the effect of decreased drug renal clearance on drug doses can be made. This is
particularly important in the current aging population, whereby decreased renal function is a natural
consequent of old age, as is the increased prevalence of constipation associated with drug treatments
and lifestyle changes. Considering 60% of prucalopride is excreted unchanged in urine, renal
excretion is one of the most important routes of elimination for prucalopride. This further validates
the importance of this study in the selected population.
Although prucalopride is not currently approved for use in men, this pharmacokinetic study
involved both men and women. This enables results of the study to be applicable for potential
future use in men.

Social Care Ethics Essay
Applying care ethics to reproductive tourism appears too optimistic and simple at first glance, but
upon further investigation this approach is reviewed to be capable of yielding the most personal
and effective results when it comes to parents making their decisions to utilize this service. In
comparison to other approaches, this theory views all parties involved in the process of this
assisted reproductive service as humans with equal moral value and emotions; emotions that are
ultimately responsible for the 150% growth of the global surrogacy industry (Parks 334).Written
by Jennifer Parks, the article on care ethics defines this view as one that neither overlooks the
importance of human relationships nor the infant s right to human care (335). This perspective is
also interesting in the sense that it employs the social connection model, which is heavily discussed
by Anne Donchin in her article on the same matter. Care ethics incorporates Iris Marion Young s
idea of the social model for the commissioned parents to forge a relationship with the... Show more

Parks realizes that a care ethics perspective makes global surrogacy expensive, rendering it
undesirable from an economic point of view. This revelation is not a problem for care ethics, if it
means the surrogates are to be seen as morally equal to the infants, the commissioned parents, then
Parks has fulfilled her goal. Care is expensive, but this proves to be beneficial to this theory. In an
effort to avoid a false dichotomy, commissioned parents either have to care for their future children
and the surrogates that carry those children, or choose other means of reproductive assistance
which are as expensive. Care ethics makes it possible to illustrate that there are more than economic
benefits and abstract ethical norms that should be considered in terms of reproductive

Essay about Dickens Great Expectations
Dickens Great Expectations
The novel Great Expectations uses the central character, Pip, to depict the ups and downs of a
young child on a quest to become not only a man, but a gentleman. Dickens uses a variety of
different techniques to create mood, setting, and atmosphere.
Charles Dickens grew up in the nineteenth century, when times were hard and punishments were
extremely harsh. So harsh you could be imprisoned or even hanged for stealing a loaf of bread.
Dickens s father was in debt and as a result he was imprisoned and Charles went to a workhouse.
The miniscule amount of money he earned supported his family. As a result of this punishment,
Dickens grew to detest the law and everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on what the driver said we immediately think that Jaggers is not only powerful, but also a

In chapter one dickens uses imagery such as the gibbet to show punishment: No matter how small,
pip still committed a crime and could still be punished severely, even hanged. Another image, used
to portray punishment is the hulks. They were huge prison ships out on the marshes and were there
to represent the punishment pip could face. Dickens uses chains to show that pip and magwitch are
connected, by the crime they committed together.
But on the other hand, in chapter twenty the images used to represent punishment are: Jagger s

In chapter one, Dickens uses the river to illustrate the journey pip is about to embark upon. He
uses the fog to represent pips uncertainty in life however the fog is also used to create mood

In chapter twenty Dickens describes Jaggers chair like a coffin

comes to older adults, one of the aspects that can affect memory is stereotypes. In their work, the

grammatically correct four word sentence. Participants in this condition had an unlimited amount of
time to complete the task. In contrast, the task failure condition had 10 seconds to complete the
task. This was half the time that it took participants in the task success condition to arrange a

participants completed a memory experiment. For the experiment, the participants were given a list

words as they could remember. For the results, the researchers found that there was a statistically
significant difference between the groups. Specifically, older adults in the task success group had
better recall than the control and task failure groups. Additionally, the older adults who experienced
prior task failure did not have worse memory recall than the control group. Although these results
posed true for the older adults, they did not extend to the younger adults. In regards to these results,
the researchers theorized a couple potential reasons why these relationships exist. First, they

How Important Was The Privy Council
How important was the Privy Council
It could be argued that the monarch was an important member of government however some may
disagree and put forward the idea that the Privy Council was more important. This is for several
reasons the first reason (for the monarch) was the fact that she could decide who could become a
member of the Privy Council this is because it meant that she had total power over those who that
would help run the country. However this did not mean that the monarch was the most important
figure as it could be argued that the monarch did in fact have a Back Seat with regards to running

Gorbachev And The Fall Of The Soviet Union
Gorbachev and the fall of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union was an empire centered in Moscow, Russia. The Soviet Union consisted of more
than just Russia, it consisted of fifteen sovereign republics, and its formal title was the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics. In addition to the 15 sovereign republics that comprised the Soviet Union
after World War II there was also the Soviet Outer Empire. The Soviet Union Outer Empire was
commonly referred to as the Soviet Bloc, which consisted of East Germany, Poland,
Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. The Soviet empire extended from Berlin in the
west to the Pacific Ocean in the east.
The Soviet Union was a communist country, meaning that the Communist Party of the Soviet
Union, herein referred to as CPSU, exercised absolute rule. The Communist Party controlled both
the government and the economy. The Soviet Union s economy was based on a centrally planned
economy, which was composed every five years at the CPSU Party Congress. Despite early
successes under Stalin, the five year plan system proved to be a mistake. The plans that were
produced were unrealistic, and inconsistent with sound economic policy. The ideology that
motivated people in the early years of the Soviet Union started to fail to serve as sufficient
motivation, and without further incentives, the workforce remained unmotivated and inefficient. In
addition to the failures of the planned economy, the people who ran the party were thoroughly

The True Value Of College Athletes. College Student-Athletes
The True Value of College Athletes College student athletes have some of the most time consumed
schedules of any college student. In regards to time commitment with their athletic team, that can
be a full time job in itself. Not to mention the academic commitment that should come before
athletic in the first place. Because college student athletes bring so much to the table in their
commitments, there has been an increased discussion on if college athletes should be paid. With
increasing controversy of the topic, college athletes should ultimately be paid because they are the
cause for high revenue streams of colleges, it would limit illegal or under the table payments, and
because they make significant sacrifices that deserve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Johnson and Acquaviva make the point that between weight training sessions, film room,
practice, individual workouts, travel, and finally competition, these student athletes cannot feel
much like students. (Brill 7) This further validates the point that college athletes should be paid
if they are spending so much time on athletics, and helping the school earn money along the way.
If college athletes were paid, it would motivate them competitively as well because the revenue
the program brings in is partially based off performance for signing TV deals and getting bids to
postseason games that earn more money for the school. The more successful a team is, the more
money they will be able to negotiate for in TV deals and the more likely they get bids to play in
post season games to generate extra revenue. Universities also make a fortune off of selling Since
the players are the source for this revenue by playing in these games, they would be even more
competitively driven to perform their very best because as a result they would get paid more
money and generate more money for the school at the same time. A win win scenario for both the
student athletes and their respective universities. Many of these college student athletes come from
low income homes as well. The argument could be made that if the university is able to help these
athletes families with a form of pay without making significant sacrifice, then they

A Brief Article On Being An Atheist
Response Paper on H.J. McCloskey article On being an atheist
Name
Course

During the year 1968, an atheist philosopher H.J. McCloskey came up with a powerful argument
about how being an atheist was greater than the theistic way of life. Through this article,
McCloskey finds a way to condemn numerous arguments which theist consider as true and in most
cases seem to mock and impeach the believers of God. Some of the arguments that McCloskey tries
to diminish are the three mutual proofs that most theists depend upon for their belief in God. The
proofs include; cosmological proof, teleological proof and the argument from design. McCloskey
also talks about the complications of evil and how its presence rejects the truth about God. At the
end of the article, he maintains that atheism is heartening, meaning that it is more calming than
theism. Below are a detailed discussion and validity of the truth about the three claims that
McCloskey wants to rebate in the article and finally dispute the problem of evil to censure the
thought that atheism is cool and comforting1.
McCloskey mostly insults the theistic opinion as one of ignorance and ambiguity. Referring to the
believers of God, he say they do not think hard enough nor far enough about the difficulty of an
uncaused reason, who has to be a unavoidably existing being to prove that the argument is far less
conclusive than it appears to be at first sight. In addition, his reference of theists as being ignorant

Design A Safety And Longevity Bridges
In designing the bridges, an engineer need to completely understand the problem to be solved. To
design a safety and longevity bridges, they have to consider different types of loads, how and where
they need to apply the load. They also have to undergo several steps that usually need in designing
bridges such as understanding the problems, determining the potential loads of bridges, calculating
the highest possible loads and calculate the amount of material need to counteract the loads.
Retrofit is one of the important features of maintenance. It is can be defined as upgrading or
strengthening the bridge structural quality to enhance the performance of the bridge. Strengthening
and retrofit methods are different from the repairing and it includes a component host. Most
bridges are in need for the retrofit and strengthening every 15 years. There are a lot of
strengthening methods like steel pre stressed girders, micro piles, pile caps, extended footings,
abutment wall, wall piers and column bent pier. Other than that, there are also concrete deck repair
by patching, epoxy injection, silica fumes and salvaging of existing railing and beam where it is
customary to retain the existing ones. If demolition needs to be conducted, extra care is strictly
prohibited so that the features that required for continuity are not damage.
There are a few ways to retrofit bridge structure to prevent it from collapse. It is because these

Similarities Between Ancient Greece And China Essay
1. Using three civilizations as examples, describe the concept of the Axial Age The concept of
axial age was introduced into the sphere of philosophical knowledge by German existentialist
philosopher Karl Jaspers for characterizing the period of ancient history during about the 8th to the
3rd century BC. In this period of time we have developed a fundamentally new religious beliefs and
doctrines that promoted human and cultural values of the era. Jaspers described the Axial Age as
an interregnum between two ages of great empire, a pause for liberty, a deep breath bringing the
most lucid consciousness. Jaspers argued that during the Axial Age, the spiritual foundations of
humanity were laid simultaneously and independently in China, India, Persia, Judea and Greece.
And these are the foundations upon which humanity still subsists today. Consider, for example
Greece, India and China. Ancient Greece up to the 6th century BC was on a par with other
civilizations by the level of spiritual development. Hellenic culture range was one of those, whose
coordinate system covers the problems of family, God, nature and Eros. As a general rule, the
mentality of this culture consisted the two vectors Apollonian and Dionysian. Dionysian beginning
was aimed at the satisfaction of the instinctual needs, as opposed to the Apollonian, whose essence
consisted of creative and scientific elements. The widespread fall of the monarchy and the

1820 cm 1 (presence of C O) and a broad peak between 2400 and 3400cm 1 (presence of O H)
indicates the presence of carboxylic acid (COOH). In this graph there is a peak at 3248 cm 1 (C O)
and a peak at 1589 cm 1 (O H) which confirms the presence of carboxylic acid. To confirm the
presence of amides, a medium absorption near 3400 cm 1 should be observed which is the case
in this graph. Absorptions in the region of 1450 to 1600 cm 1 often designate an aromatic ring
and when consulting the C H region we can confirm its aromatic since the peak is to the left of
the 3000 cm 1. Nitro groups give two strong absorptions at 1530 1600 cm 1 and 1300 1390 cm 1.

We Are The Cosmos Made Conscious And Life Is The Means By...
We are the cosmos made conscious and life is the means by which the universe understands itself.
Brian Cox. What is consciousness? I remember being a student in a NSCS 200 class, answering the
attendance question of whether plants are conscious beings. They aim to fulfill a goal, they sense
things, and with those stimuli, they make actions. So theoretically, they are conscious. But do they
have consciousness? Are they aware what they are doing and why they are doing it? Do they feel
things within themselves? And if the answers are no, what is then the difference between humans
and between plants?
Susan Schneider wrote in The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness, anything that we are at a
given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most
familiar and most mysterious aspects of our lives. Searching for the word consciousness in the
dictionary, a definition of the state or quality of awareness, or, of being aware of an external object
or something within oneself could be found. It can also be described as sentience, awareness,
subjectivity, the ability to think or feel, and the executive control of the mind. Many theories of
where consciousness comes from have arisen, but there seems to be an underlying theme of what
consciousness is, in the broader sense, to most theories.
For instance, most theories agree that all sensory organs and their perceptions must combine within
the brain to give us consciousness, and not separate

Archimedes Of Syracuse And The Current State Of Computing
As long as the field of mathematics has existed, people have been searching for shortcuts to
eliminate the monotony and difficulty of calculating figures accurately. As a result, human beings
began to develop new technologies to simplify this process. In ancient history, the abacus was a
useful device in calculating simple numbers requiring addition and subtraction. In the seventeenth
century, the first mechanical calculators were able to perform multiplication and division through
repetitions of addition and subtraction. Calculators were then programmed in order to multiply and
divide automatically. From these early devices emerged the first computers and calculators, which
were originally intended to calculate figures. Now, modern computers are expected to perform a
variety of functions, outside of calculations, quickly and effectively. However, back in the time of
abacuses, an ancient Greek mathematician was discovering the formulas and primitive mechanical
devices that have evolved into the current state of computing technology. Archimedesof Syracuse
was born in 287 BC in Syracuse, Sicily. Not much is known about his early life or his parents, but
it is believed he studied alongside his mathematical contemporaries Conon of Samos and
Eratosthenes of Cyrene in Egypt. In 212 BC, he was killed by the invading Roman soldiers when he
refused to comply while solving geometrical problems in the dirt. Although he died prematurely,

Blog #23_ Leverage_ What is The Best Leverage for Your Forex Trading Strategy
Introduction
Understanding how to trade forex isn t always the easiest of tasks, as in order to successfully turn
a profit a trader must have a detailed knowledge of the market, the right trading strategy, and a
selection of functional trading tools. One tool that is commonly praised is leverage, as through
correct use it can boost a trader s output without the need for any additional capital upfront. The
following article takes an in depth look at leverage, helping you get a grasp on what leverage is
appropriate for your forex trading strategy and all round market approach.

The margin in this instance would be $1,000, with margin based leverage equalling 100:1
(100,000/1,000). Many don t equate margin based leverage to being legitimate leverage, as it
doesn t affect a trader s risk exposure, as a trader s margin requirement might not influence his or
her profits or losses. Reason being that a trader can choose to allocate more than the required
margin for any active position.
Real Leverage
In order to understand the real degree of leverage within any position you are undertaking, you
must divide the total value of your positions by your trading capital. For example, should you
have $10,000 in your account and you choose to open a $100,000 position, by default you are
trading with 10x leverage. Now, should you trade two standard lots ($200,000) instead of a
single standard lot ($100,000), you will then be trading at 20x leverage. You can probably start to
figure out how this works from a real leverage perspective using these examples, with the leverage
offered being related to the level of margin and the discretion of the broker.
Understanding associated levels of risk
As you can plainly see, by making use of leverage you can magnify not only your profits, but
should things take a turn for the worse, your losses as well. Think about it this way, the greater the
level of leverage you use, the greater the level of risk you take on. What this means is that leverage

With wasteful consumer spending decreased, Americans will be able to focus their hard earned
dollars on more important items, such as flat panel LCD s and energy efficient hybrids. Thus
Americans would become less consumer culture. Also, replacing the American currency with

criminals target individuals who appear to be carrying cash, among other things. However,
since cash will become obsolete, individuals will not be able to carry money with them, thus

The Asian currency crisis was a period of financial crisis started in Thailand in July 1997. Many
Asian countries experienced a financial crisis are a large drop in the value of its currency and a
large drop in its traded equity prices. Before the crisis happened, many Asian countries produced a

It can be present any time two parties come into agreement with one another. In a contract, each
party may have the opportunity to gain from acting contrary to the principles laid out by the
agreement. For example, a salesperson may not try his or her best to sell the owner s goods if
the salesperson is paid a flat salary without commissions for the sales. Because the salesperson s
income stays the same regardless of how much the business owner s profit from his or her work.
This kind of risk is recognized as the moral hazard. Moral hazard can be reduced by the placing
of responsibilities on both parties of a contract. In the salesperson s example, the owner can pay a
wage comprised of both flat salary and commissions to improve the incentive of the salesperson.
From the mini case, it is showed that moral hazard was at the center of the Asian currency crisis. In
the crisis, moral hazard was created by overprotecting the investors, which included government
guarantees, industrial policy, and crony capitalism accorded to industrial firms and banks. Deposit
insurance and other government guarantees for banks were the major source of moral hazard. For

Entity Relationship Diagrams
An entity relationship diagram is the basic design model for any database. It is the major
deliverable for a conceptual database design. It is the logical organization of any data in the
database and is usually made up of three components namely; entities, attributes and relationships.
Entities are the major categories of data in the databaseand are usually represented by rectangles.
Attributes are the characteristics of the entities and are usually written in the rectangle.
Relationships are the connections between entities and are usually represented using lines joining
the rectangles. Entities that share major characteristics are known as entitytypes, and are also
referred to as classes. An entity instance is the individual occurrence of one entity type. It is
important to define entity types as it makes it easier to determine the requirements of the database
and how it will be structured.
In defining an attribute, the analyst must state the importance of the attribute, the value of the
attribute and whether the value of this attribute can change. When drawing an entity relationship
diagram, the analyst must be aware of the following types of attributes; multi valued attributes,
required attributes, optional attributes, composite attributes and derived attributes. When showing
relationships, an analyst must be aware of three types of relationships; unary (between instances of
one entity type), binary (between instances of two entity types), and ternary (between

Similarities Between The Democratic Party And The...
The Democratic Party and the Republican Party have many differences, but they also share many
similarities. The Democratic Party is the oldest continuing party in the United States. A new
coalition of Westerners, Southerners, and non property owning white men emerged from the
Democratic Republican Party and formed the Democratic Party. The core beliefs that tie the
Democratic Party together are: Democrats believe that they are greater together than on their own,
that the country succeeds when everyone has an equal opportunity, everyone does their fair share,
and everyone plays by the same rules. The Democratic Party is focused on building an economy
that lifts up all Americans, not just those at the top. For more than two hundred years,... Show more

The Democrats believe that only middle and lower income families should get tax cuts and that
corporations and the wealthy should pay more. The Republicans believe there should be tax
cuts for everyone including corporations. Democrats are more progressive in their views; they
favor abortion and gay marriage, but favor strict gun control laws that limit ownership. They
favor increasing the minimum wage so that Americans have more money to purchase goods.
They favor trade restrictions to protect American jobs. The Republicans are more conservative
in their views; they oppose gay marriage and promote marriage being between a man and a
woman. They also oppose abortion and promote the right of gun ownership. They oppose
increases to the minimum wage, citing that businesses need to keep costs low so they can
prosper and all Americans have access to products and services. They favor free trade in order to
keep costs low for consumers and businesses make more profits. Democrats prefer government
regulation and oversight of the health care system making the health care system accessible to
everyone. They believe that government should run social programs such as welfare,
unemployment, SNAP, and Medicaid to support those in need. Republicans oppose the Affordable
Care Act stating that too much government involvement will cause a rise in costs and have a
negative impact on the quality of care. They believe that social welfare programs should have less
funding and tighter control. The Republicans favor a full military effort to displace regimes that are
totalitarian, detrimental to their own people, and who are threatening others; while Democrats
favor limited use of manpower. Democrats believe in restricting drilling for oil; Republicans favor
expanding drilling operations. Democrats favor progressive approaches to education, such

William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying Essay
The past is never dead. It s not even past.
― William Faulkner
In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying, characterization, specifically through the multitude of
narrators, transforms an otherwise pedestrian plot into a complex pilgrimage to the truth. As I Lay
Dying is told from the perspective of fifteen different characters in 59 chapters (Tuck 35). Nearly
half (7) of the characters from whose perspective the story is narrated are members of the same
family, the Bundrens. The other characters are onlookers of the Bundrens journey to bury their
mother, Addie. Each character responds to the events that are unfolding in a unique way and his or
her reactions help to characterize themselves and others.

I saw... it was between [Addie] and Darl that the understanding and true love was (Faulkner 24).
The reader could either take the words for face value as true, or discard them as utter fiction. The
decision is based upon the credence of the speaker. In this case the speaker is Cora, the overly
religious neighbor. Although not initially apparent, it is later revealed that her view of Addie s
affection towards Darl is completely inaccurate. Cora bases her verbal reaction on Addie s physical
response, but does not take into account Addie s reasoning. This example makes the importance of
credibility, especially based on knowledge of the situation, more pronounced.
Furthermore, the onlookers narration needs to be free of bias for true objectivity. Faulkner lets
the most detached characters of the book give the most objective views of the Bundrens, because
they have no bias towards them. The stronger a character s morals are and the stronger their
predisposition, the more skewed their objectivity. Cora is a good example for distorted objectivity.
As a deeply fervent religious character Cora is biased against Addie s supposedly sinful ways
stating, the eternal and the everlasting salvation and grace is not upon her (Faulkner 8). Cora s
husband, Tull, however, observes the Bundrens with an unbiased mind, simply retelling what he
observes. His interpretation of Anse, the Bundren

Topic 1: It is hard imagine people can live without friends.
Many people have said that we can t live without friends. I totally agree with this point of view.
There are many reasons why I support this idea.
First of all, we do not live alone. As human being, we have a need in sharing our feeling both
happingess and sadness. There is a saying that sorrow shared is sorrow halved, andjoy shared is joy
double . This world and life will be nothing if we do not have any friends nearby.Secondly,
friends can bring us joys and happiness. Friends also heip and give us good advice when we meet

Theories Of John Stuart Mill
John Stuart Mill can be recognized as an influential English philosopher of his time. He strongly
believed in the concept of freedom of speech and choice, without the censorship that laws and
legal constitution bring. In other terms Mill s approach states that democracy is the only way we
can flourish if we let our ideas surface. This paper will be centered around John Stuart Mills theory
of liberal democracy. This paper will be examining five different authors that have been inspired by
Mills theoretical ideas.
Su, H. C. (2009). Is social justice for or against liberty? the philosophical foundations of mill and
Hayek s theory of liberty. Review of Austrian Economics, 22(4), 387 414. For this scholarly
article author, Huei Su compares two philosophers Mills and Hayek s theory of liberty. The
author argues that the the similarities in the economic theories of Mill and Hayek s main
similarities between their theories are actually based on different rationales . The author focused
on two particular ideals, liberty, and justice. From Mill s side he focused on liberty; how Mills
believed that social justice aids in obtaining real freedom. While Hayek theory on liberty defers,
however, Hayek supports his theory with his concept of rules and law. The author states that in
regards to Mill, social justice and individual liberty can be achieved by utilitarianism only through
various secondary principles of justice, rather than through the single first principle of

years of your childhood. Before you know it, you re suddenly caught up in thoughts of who you
were and how you ve changed or perhaps reflecting on which decisions brought you to where you
are in that particular moment in life. It s in that moment, those short lived moments, that one deeply
appreciates the ability to smell and maybe wonders how such an arbitrary smell can have such a
strong emotional response. Most of the scents that have strong emotional connections, nowadays,

Emergency Preparedness, Response And Recovery Programmes
1.Introduction
In the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and resulting tsunami, over 4000 scientists,
government officials, NGOs and UN representatives met in Kobe, Japan to address one of the
most important tests the world has to face: disaster risk reduction (DRR). The product of the
conference was the 10 year Hyogo Framework for Action 2005 2015. Endorsed by 168 countries,
the document promotes 3 main aims: the integration of DRR into viable development policies and
planning, building resilience to hazards and incorporating risk reduction methodologies into the
implementation of emergency preparedness, response and recovery programmes (GNDR, 2014). In
order to achieve these goals, the framework states 5 priorities of action:

Nevertheless, one point that everyone agrees on is that the HFA has achieved very much in
giving greater momentum to DRR worldwide. Judging by the stable growth of the number of
countries reporting their progress on HFA implementation, from 27 countries in 2007, to 77 in
2009 and over 100 in 2011 (GNDR, 2014), and by the overall rise in their quality, it is easy to see
the increase of interest towards achieving HFA goals. Moreover, the continuous increase in
participants at conferences related to disasters can also point to a new level of popularity of DRR,
thanks in no small part to the Framework.
There has also been some well documented progress towards accomplishing the first priority of
action, with a growing number of nations updating their existing laws based on HFA standards,
including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc. (Oxfam International, 2011). Also, the number of
National Platforms enacted across the world has increased from 38 in 2007 to 73 in 2011 (Oxfam
International, 2011), while the number of HFA Focal Points for HFA implementation has risen
from 63 to 192, indicating a clear commitment to the standards and provisions of the Hyogo
Framework for Action. Nonetheless, there is yet to be seen some significant headway in
harmonizing legislative frameworks in other sectors, such as water resources, agriculture, etc. with
the new laws, which sometimes can lead to key difficulties in disaster risk management.
The most important accomplishment of the HFA is

The Importance Of Alcoholism In Beowulf
Alcohol has been observed in countless works of literature throughout history. It has been seen a
tool of an assailant, the preferred drink of unsavory character, or maybe even a symbol of peace.
The versatile concoction has taken many forms, and at times it seems to be specifically praised and
at other moments it is just a convenient transition to the next viable part of the narrative. Yet there
are some narratives that expose alcohol as an important part of their ceremonies and rituals without
calling undue notice to this feature. While glory, fame, and reputation are significant elements to
the overall foundation of the Warriorsociety that is explored within Beowulf, there are other less
obvious elements that hold crucial substance as well. The ceremonies such as the feasts, the passing
of the beer horn, and gift presentations are saturated with ritualdemands that must be observed.
This analysis will take a deeper look at the significance of beer drinking that is exposed as a
crucial element to the ritual completion during two different moments with the text. The first
will be the Feast after Beowulf s arrival at King Hrothgar s court and the second will be during
the feast as which Freawaru is observed distributing drink and gifts. Could the drink be used as a
formality of displaying alliance and safe boarding or could it be a be a way to temper reactions
during more emotionally charged moments? Beowulf s unannounced and uninvited presence to
King Hrothgar s mead hall

Understanding The Limitations Of A Person With Mcardle s...
In 2005, my husband was forced to retire from a job at Georgia Pacific. This was a job that he
had been working at for thirty three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason
that we knew of and he was having some other health problems. It was very upsetting to both of
us not knowing the outcome about his health and now no income as well. We had seen many
doctors on many different occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a
new doctor, a neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband,
you have McArdle s disease. It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My heart dropped
and I was not sure what we were up against. Understanding the limitations of a person with
McArdle s disease is the best way to live with it.
What is McArdle s disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011). 1 in 100,000
persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr. Brian McArdle. McArdle s
disease is caused by a missing enzyme, myophosphorylase C. This breaks down glycogen (which is
the body form of stored energy) into glucose (sugar).
People who have McArdle s disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they seem to be very
healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents would have to have the defective
gene. This is called autosomal recessive inheritance pattern ( McArdle s Disease Overview Facts
June 2014). You are born with the disease but some

Wise Blood Quotes
There are many different ideas and thoughts on religion and anti religion. There is not a certain
set amount of religions, but rather a broad spectrum of them. In Wise Blood, the author Flannery
O Connor, created a character who has developed different beliefs throughout his life. Hazel
Motes, or Haze, was born into a Christian family with a grandfather who was a preacher. He had
intent to become one himself until WW2 drastically altered his beliefs. Haze entered the war as a
Christian, but came back an atheist. Hazel, newly released from the Army, has fled after finding his
family home abandoned (Harris). Throughout this novel, Hazel has a hard time with his mind

From the time he gets back from WW2, he creates the Church Without Christ which is him
preaching his anti religious beliefs on the streets. Throughout his time in Taulkinham, Haze
keeps seeing Jesus in his mind, sees signs of Christianity everywhere, and is mistaken as a
preacher on multiple occasions. In the essay, Jesus, Stab Me in the Heart! : Wise Blood,
Wounding, and Sacramental Aesthetics, the author Robert H. Brinkmeyer, talks about Hazel
not being able to escape Jesus. Identifies Haze as a Christian malgre lui whose integrity lies in
his not being able to escape from his haunting vision of Christ (Brinkmeyer, 71). As Brinkmeyer
suggests here, Hazel continues to see Jesus in his mind, but as a ragged figure. The boy didn t
need to hear it. There was already a black wordless conviction in him that the way to avoid Jesus
was to avoid sin. He knew by the time he was twelve years old that he was going to be a preacher.
Later he saw Jesus move from tree to tree in the back of his mind, a wild ragged figure motioning
him to turn around and come off into the dark where he was not sure of his footing, where he
might be walking on the water and not know it and then suddenly know it and drown (O Connor,
16). Along with these appearances, Hazel encounters many religious and Christian related signs.
These appearing signs create

Narrative Voice In Romeo And Juliet
Male characters who serve as a narrative voice often express their love and affection through an
enthusiastic response towards a female. In the song, Michelle , performed by Sir Paul McCartney,
the male narrative voice is proclaiming his love for a girl named Michelle through his words both
in French and English. Similarly, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William
Shakespeare, Romeo shows his enthusiasm upon catching sight of Juliet and expresses that he
believes that she is the most magnificent girl Romeo had ever met. Considering what both of these

1.5. 52 53). Romeo in the quote conveys his emotions about Juliet by mentioning verbally that, that
night was the first time he had seen true beauty and that no one can compare to Juliet. Likewise, in
Michelle, the narrator of the song sees the beauty of the woman he is discussing within the lyrics,
and acting upon this through words. The male narrator wants the woman he is talking to to know
something and expresses it by saying, I will say the only words I know that You ll understand
Michelle, ma belle Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble Tres bien ensemble . (Doc 1). The
male character s choice of words in this part of the song is essential because he is communicating
that he needs Michelle to understand that he is inspired by her beauty and has a desire for her.
Moreover, upon noticing Juliet, Romeo realizes that she is different from other girls that has met
and done things with. Romeo remarks about Juliet, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear! (1.5.

Competition throughout several industries have brought about many new changes, but specifically, a growth of transnational opportunities. This chapter covers a study about Gay undergraduate males and the way it makes sense of HIV and its storyline on television. The study draws from the fictional television series Queer as Folk, one of the highest rated programs on cable television. First, the chapter begins by explaining the series Queer as Folk. This series is one wear lesbian and gaymen and women live their lives, work, have good and bad days. During this series they do not show HIV as a one time special occurrence, but as filtrated into the lives of the characters. During the series loved ones were lost, and they discussed prevention. Ultimately, the focus group recognized though they were initially entertained, they could appreciate education of the aspects of gay culture including HIV awareness and prevention. The focus group had positive reviews of how the storylines are presented. I will admit this summary took me a little bit out of my comfort zone. • 4. Marginalizing Yunior s Footnotes power of the fukГє, distinguishes his narrative from the profound precision that is typically applied to history. This can be seen when Yunior rejects the supposed objectivity of history by questioning, Where in coГ±azo do you think the so called cure of the Kennedys comes from? How about Vietnam? Why do you think the greatest power in the world lost its first war to a Third World country like Vietnam? (4) In this case, objective facts would be useless; without being applied to the context of a narrative, facts possess no meaning. Rather, Yunior s employment of the fukГє enables the reader to imagine links that were formerly unseen. As a result, Yunior s manipulation on hearsay disfigures the authoritative preference of fact over fiction, challenging the nature of objectivity that is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, imitating the literal separation of the marginalized text from the content of the body, Yunior undoes the authority that Trujillo wrongfully gained through suppressing others by making him the subject of a majority of the novel s footnotes. In doing so, Yunior establishes a reversal of roles between Trujillo and the marginalized people of the Dominican Republic. In addition, Yunior s inclusion of footnotes creates a double narrative containing the contesting authorial voices that are found within the margins and in the main text. In addition to asserting the dangers of a single voice, Yunior s use of footnotes enable him to neatly intertwine the historical facts of the Trujillo s dictatorship with the fictional narrative of the Cabral family. This nuance between history and narrative obscures the line between fact and fiction and allows Yunior to undermine the authority associated with history s characteristics of being linear, singular, and ... Another example of psychoanalysis was used in the novel would be when Dr. Seward irrationalizes the situation of which Mina was transforming into a vampire. The reason he ignores the symptoms of Mina, is because he believes that there has to be something else wrong with her such as an infection. He does not realize that the same symptoms were noticed on Lucy which goes along the lines of how Victorian ideology affects people in this time period. Not only does it affect them but it may affect others as well. This caused the life of Lucy and roughly Mina s; even though Mina s life was spared his job was basically put into question. His beliefs have the better then him as of right now. The mindis like an iceberg, it floats with one seventh of its bulk above water. This quote describes how the mind is still operational even when only a small portion of it is still functioning. Dr. Van Helsing rather was a doctor that actually thought rationally considering the others and was the only one that knew what was going on with Lucy s illness . • 8. The Possibility Of Evil Analysis We all like to look at things that appeal our preferences. But sometimes, appearances can deceive us, such as a good deal you may see. One common example would be online shopping. The price that is offered upfront is very appealing, all until it comes down to the final cost after including shipping and handling, taxes, or any other unmentioned expenses. Or maybe a movie that has an interesting trailer, but the actual film as a whole was not as good as it appeared to be. Instead of judging at first glance, one should first investigate and then make a decision after their analysis. The main characters in the short stories Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahland, The Possibility of Evil , by Shirley Jackson, should have known this lesson. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary Maloney is a kind housewife this sweet who loves her husband dearly, but changes to a bitter and angry widow after her husband leaves her. In The Possibility of Evil, Miss Strangeworth appears to be a kind elderly lady, but behind close doors, she is the complete opposite. After reading both stories, the readers learn that even though something may appear one way, it can turn out to be something completely different than we expected. • 12. The Main Conflict Within the Administration of the Title IX I consider myself quite the feminist. Likewise, if you believe that women should receive equal rights to men, then you should consider yourself a feminist, too, and possibly look into the Title IX law, because it is the epitome of feminist success. Since the passing of Title IX, the number of women participating in intercollegiate sports from 1971 has more than quadrupled, going from about 30,000 to more than 150,000 (Garber). Yet, astonishingly, it is far from my favorite amendment to be passed by the federal government. This is because this law has morphed from a well intentioned piece of legislation that helped to increase female athletic opportunities into an obtrusive quota system that has begun to do more harm than good. Although Title IXhas helped in the past to increase genderequality within collegiate sports, in recent years, enforcing its policies has resulted in a decrease of support for male athletes. The problem is not with the general law of Title IX itself, which simply states that any education program receiving federal funding cannot discriminate based on gender ( Gender Equity 339): it is the way that this law has been enforced. Although the entirety of the Title IX law pertains to a number of aspects of educational institutions, a college s compliance requirements (that is, the rules that must be met in order to be in conformity with the Title IX law) under the athletic portion of Title IX boil down to three major prongs : 1. The proportion of female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(3) List the objectives of the pharmacokinetic study. What can we learn from studying drugs in the selected population? The objective of this pharmacokinetic study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of prucalopride in individuals with renal impairment. By studying drugs in patients with renal impairment, a greater understanding of the effect of decreased drug renal clearance on drug doses can be made. This is particularly important in the current aging population, whereby decreased renal function is a natural consequent of old age, as is the increased prevalence of constipation associated with drug treatments and lifestyle changes. Considering 60% of prucalopride is excreted unchanged in urine, renal excretion is one of the most important routes of elimination for prucalopride. This further validates the importance of this study in the selected population. Although prucalopride is not currently approved for use in men, this pharmacokinetic study involved both men and women. This enables results of the study to be applicable for potential future use in men. (4) Briefly describe the study design including information about the dosage and the route of administration. In comparison to other approaches, this theory views all parties involved in the process of this assisted reproductive service as humans with equal moral value and emotions; emotions that are ultimately responsible for the 150% growth of the global surrogacy industry (Parks 334).Written by Jennifer Parks, the article on care ethics defines this view as one that neither overlooks the importance of human relationships nor the infant s right to human care (335). This perspective is also interesting in the sense that it employs the social connection model, which is heavily discussed by Anne Donchin in her article on the same matter. Care ethics incorporates Iris Marion Young s idea of the social model for the commissioned parents to forge a relationship with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parks realizes that a care ethics perspective makes global surrogacy expensive, rendering it undesirable from an economic point of view. This revelation is not a problem for care ethics, if it means the surrogates are to be seen as morally equal to the infants, the commissioned parents, then Parks has fulfilled her goal. Care is expensive, but this proves to be beneficial to this theory. In an effort to avoid a false dichotomy, commissioned parents either have to care for their future children and the surrogates that carry those children, or choose other means of reproductive assistance which are as expensive. Care ethics makes it possible to illustrate that there are more than economic benefits and abstract ethical norms that should be considered in terms of reproductive ... Essay about Dickens Great Expectations Dickens Great Expectations The novel Great Expectations uses the central character, Pip, to depict the ups and downs of a young child on a quest to become not only a man, but a gentleman. Dickens uses a variety of different techniques to create mood, setting, and atmosphere. Charles Dickens grew up in the nineteenth century, when times were hard and punishments were extremely harsh. So harsh you could be imprisoned or even hanged for stealing a loaf of bread. Dickens s father was in debt and as a result he was imprisoned and Charles went to a workhouse. The miniscule amount of money he earned supported his family. As a result of this punishment, Dickens grew to detest the law and everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another image, used to portray punishment is the hulks. They were huge prison ships out on the marshes and were there to represent the punishment pip could face. Dickens uses chains to show that pip and magwitch are connected, by the crime they committed together. But on the other hand, in chapter twenty the images used to represent punishment are: Jagger s office (because he represents the law), Newgate prison and the court rooms. In chapter one, Dickens uses the river to illustrate the journey pip is about to embark upon. He uses the fog to represent pips uncertainty in life however the fog is also used to create mood atmosphere. In chapter twenty Dickens describes Jaggers chair like a coffin Rows of brass nails in it, like a coffin And as chapter one is set in a graveyard there are quite a few similarities. The article that I will be reviewing for the third discussion day is titled, Improving Older Adults Memory Performance Using Prior Task Success. This research was completed by Lisa Geraci and Tyler M. Miller, two researchers from Texas A M University. In order to better understand their work, it will be benefical to look at some of the background information on the topic. When it comes to older adults, one of the aspects that can affect memory is stereotypes. In their work, the researchers provided a thorough review of this phenomenon, which was labeled as stereotypethreat effect. On a whole, this is when knowledge of a stereotype influences behavior. Next, they were instructed to arrange the word to rearrange the words to form a grammatically correct four word sentence. Participants in this condition had an unlimited amount of time to complete the task. In contrast, the task failure condition had 10 seconds to complete the task. This was half the time that it took participants in the task success condition to arrange a sentence. Moreover, the control group did not receive this task to complete. After this task, all participants completed a memory experiment. For the experiment, the participants were given a list of 30 words. They had 2 minutes to evaluate this list after which they had to write down as many words as they could remember. For the results, the researchers found that there was a statistically significant difference between the groups. Specifically, older adults in the task success group had better recall than the control and task failure groups. Additionally, the older adults who experienced prior task failure did not have worse memory recall than the control group. Although these results posed true for the older adults, they did not extend to the younger adults. The Communist Party controlled both the government and the economy. The Soviet Union s economy was based on a centrally planned economy, which was composed every five years at the CPSU Party Congress. Despite early successes under Stalin, the five year plan system proved to be a mistake. The plans that were produced were unrealistic, and inconsistent with sound economic policy. Through this article, McCloskey finds a way to condemn numerous arguments which theist consider as true and in most cases seem to mock and impeach the believers of God. Some of the arguments that McCloskey tries to diminish are the three mutual proofs that most theists depend upon for their belief in God. The proofs include; cosmological proof, teleological proof and the argument from design. McCloskey also talks about the complications of evil and how its presence rejects the truth about God. At the end of the article, he maintains that atheism is heartening, meaning that it is more calming than theism. Below are a detailed discussion and validity of the truth about the three claims that McCloskey wants to rebate in the article and finally dispute the problem of evil to censure the thought that atheism is cool and comforting1. Referring to the believers of God, he say they do not think hard enough nor far enough about the difficulty of an uncaused reason, who has to be a unavoidably existing being to prove that the argument is far less conclusive than it appears to be at first sight. Using three civilizations as examples, describe the concept of the Axial Age The concept of axial age was introduced into the sphere of philosophical knowledge by German existentialist philosopher Karl Jaspers for characterizing the period of ancient history during about the 8th to the 3rd century BC. In this period of time we have developed a fundamentally new religious beliefs and doctrines that promoted human and cultural values of the era. Jaspers described the Axial Age as an interregnum between two ages of great empire, a pause for liberty, a deep breath bringing the most lucid consciousness. Jaspers argued that during the Axial Age, the spiritual foundations of humanity were laid simultaneously and independently in China, India, Persia, Judea and Greece. And these are the foundations upon which humanity still subsists today. Consider, for example Greece, India and China. I remember being a student in a NSCS 200 class, answering the attendance question of whether plants are conscious beings. They aim to fulfill a goal, they sense things, and with those stimuli, they make actions. So theoretically, they are conscious. But do they have consciousness? Are they aware what they are doing and why they are doing it? Do they feel things within themselves? And if the answers are no, what is then the difference between humans and between plants? Susan Schneider wrote in The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness, anything that we are at a given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most familiar and most mysterious aspects of our lives. Searching for the word consciousness in the dictionary, a definition of the state or quality of awareness, or, of being aware of an external object or something within oneself could be found. It can also be described as sentience, awareness, subjectivity, the ability to think or feel, and the executive control of the mind. Many theories of where consciousness comes from have arisen, but there seems to be an underlying theme of what consciousness is, in the broader sense, to most theories. For instance, most theories agree that all sensory organs and their perceptions must combine within the brain to give us consciousness, and not separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Archimedes Of Syracuse And The Current State Of Computing As long as the field of mathematics has existed, people have been searching for shortcuts to eliminate the monotony and difficulty of calculating figures accurately. As a result, human beings began to develop new technologies to simplify this process. In ancient history, the abacus was a useful device in calculating simple numbers requiring addition and subtraction. In the seventeenth century, the first mechanical calculators were able to perform multiplication and division through repetitions of addition and subtraction. Calculators were then programmed in order to multiply and divide automatically. From these early devices emerged the first computers and calculators, which were originally intended to calculate figures. Now, modern computers are expected to perform a variety of functions, outside of calculations, quickly and effectively. However, back in the time of abacuses, an ancient Greek mathematician was discovering the formulas and primitive mechanical devices that have evolved into the current state of computing technology. Reason being that a trader can choose to allocate more than the required margin for any active position. Real Leverage In order to understand the real degree of leverage within any position you are undertaking, you must divide the total value of your positions by your trading capital. In a contract, each party may have the opportunity to gain from acting contrary to the principles laid out by the agreement. Because the salesperson s income stays the same regardless of how much the business owner s profit from his or her work. This kind of risk is recognized as the moral hazard. Moral hazard can be reduced by the placing of responsibilities on both parties of a contract. In the salesperson s example, the owner can pay a wage comprised of both flat salary and commissions to improve the incentive of the salesperson. In chapter 15 of, The AbsoluteTrue Diary of a Part Time Indian, whilst Junior is discussing his flourishing friendship with Penelope, a Caucasian girl, Alexie Sherman potently expresses the theme of isolation through literary devices. • 36. Entity Relationship Diagrams An entity relationship diagram is the basic design model for any database. It is the major deliverable for a conceptual database design. It is the logical organization of any data in the database and is usually made up of three components namely; entities, attributes and relationships. Entities are the major categories of data in the databaseand are usually represented by rectangles. Attributes are the characteristics of the entities and are usually written in the rectangle. Relationships are the connections between entities and are usually represented using lines joining the rectangles. Entities that share major characteristics are known as entitytypes, and are also referred to as classes. An entity instance is the individual occurrence of one entity type. It is important to define entity types as it makes it easier to determine the requirements of the database and how it will be structured. In defining an attribute, the analyst must state the importance of the attribute, the value of the attribute and whether the value of this attribute can change. When drawing an entity relationship diagram, the analyst must be aware of the following types of attributes; multi valued attributes, required attributes, optional attributes, composite attributes and derived attributes. When showing relationships, an analyst must be aware of three types of relationships; unary (between instances of one entity type), binary (between instances of two entity types), and ternary (between ... It s not even past. ― William Faulkner In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying, characterization, specifically through the multitude of narrators, transforms an otherwise pedestrian plot into a complex pilgrimage to the truth. As I Lay Dying is told from the perspective of fifteen different characters in 59 chapters (Tuck 35). Nearly half (7) of the characters from whose perspective the story is narrated are members of the same family, the Bundrens. The reader could either take the words for face value as true, or discard them as utter fiction. The decision is based upon the credence of the speaker. In this case the speaker is Cora, the overly religious neighbor. Although not initially apparent, it is later revealed that her view of Addie s affection towards Darl is completely inaccurate. Cora bases her verbal reaction on Addie s physical response, but does not take into account Addie s reasoning. This example makes the importance of credibility, especially based on knowledge of the situation, more pronounced. Furthermore, the onlookers narration needs to be free of bias for true objectivity. Faulkner lets the most detached characters of the book give the most objective views of the Bundrens, because they have no bias towards them. The stronger a character s morals are and the stronger their predisposition, the more skewed their objectivity. Cora is a good example for distorted objectivity. As a deeply fervent religious character Cora is biased against Addie s supposedly sinful ways stating, the eternal and the everlasting salvation and grace is not upon her (Faulkner 8). Moreover, the continuous increase in participants at conferences related to disasters can also point to a new level of popularity of DRR, thanks in no small part to the Framework. There has also been some well documented progress towards accomplishing the first priority of action, with a growing number of nations updating their existing laws based on HFA standards, including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc. (Oxfam International, 2011).
