Tea During The Tang Dynasty
During the Tang Dynasty, tea was widespread. The uprising of the tea culture brought the
prosperity of literature in the Tang Dynasty because many monk poets wrote poems about tea. Tea
was very famous in the Buddhist monasteries during the Tang Dynasty. Monks drank tea as a
beverage because they thought the teacan help them to stay awake, so that they could have more
time to focus on their mediation. The art of serving and drinking tea in Buddhist monasteries
inspired lots of Tang poets to create poems about tea. One of the famous monk poets was Jiaoran,
he wrote a poem titled On the Double Ninth Festival, Drinking Tea with Recluse Lu Yu , in this
poem, he drank tea with his friend Lu Yu in the Monastery courtyard. The purpose of this

Animosity In Beowulf
Hrothgar, the ruler of the Danes, places the people of his city as the highest priority. Not being
timid to present emotions along with wisdom and admirability are certain qualities held by
Hrothgar. Additionally, he lacks vigor to physically combat his civilian enemies, as he displays
the aspects of an aging ruler. Hrothgar displays that he is not a careless king in terms of his
people, showing grievance to the victims of Grendels hand, Hrothgar, their lord, sat joyless/ In
Herot, a mighty prince mourning/The fate of his lost friends and companions, (Beowulf44 46).
Showing animosity in Grendel s attacks, Hrothgar cries across the seas for assistance, wanting an
end to the torment Grendel has inflicted. Twelve winters of grief for Hrothgar, king/of the Danes,
sorrow heaped at his door/by hell forged hands. His misery leaped/the seas, was told, and sung in
all/Men s ears, (Beowulf 62 66). When Beowulf arrives to assist Hrothgar with the occurring
murders in Heorot, Hrothgar explains what has happened in his kingdom, My tongue grows heavy,
/and my heart, when I try to tell you what Grendel/has brought us, the damage he s done, here/ in
this hall. (Beowulf 207 210).

Oskar Schindler Argumentative Essay
Over 11 million people died in the holocaust, and more than 7 million of them were Jewish.
Oskar Schindler was an entrepreneur who sacrificed himself for a cause he believed was unjust.
He spent most of his life around Germany in Europe. During the Holocaust, he saved over 1,200
people from the gas chambers. There are some people who don t think of him as a hero, but as a
man looking to make an easy dollar. In my opinion Oskar Schindlerwas a hero of the highest class
and deserves all the credit he received for his actions. When Oskar was born in 1908, no one could
ve guessed he would have such an impact on the world.
When Oskar was a young boy, he adored his father and strived to be like him. His Father and
Mother were both German, even though he was born in Zwittau, Hungary. His Father, Johann,
owned a farm machinery business that Oskar eventually worked at. He had one sister, named
Elfriede, who was seven years younger than him. After Oskar attended primary and secondary
school, he enrolled in a technical school. He was expelled from the school in 1924 for forging
his report card. After later graduating from a different school, he worked for his father for several
years. In 1928, he married his lifelong friend Emilie and he immediately stopped working for his
father but started looking for more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Oskar moved to Krakow at the beginning of WWI, and hired hundreds of Jews to work at his
factory it was much cheaper than hiring regular workers. He didn t have to pay them and only
had to feed them 1 time while they were at work. This made his business extremely profitable.
The one problem with that theory is that Schindler all though very profitable spent nearly all of
his profits bribing Nazi officers so they would let his Jews live. Oskar nearly went broke from
spending so much money on

Brownies Research Paper
Brownies are one of the easier things to bake but cooking or baking isn t one of my strong suits.
This recipe that I found was easy to understand and the steps were distinct and helpful for people
that need things to be straight and to the point. These brownies came out great and gave me the
satisfying, melt in your mouth that I was looking for!
The first step was to locate all the ingredients and equipment I needed. I looked at the website and
then proceeded to the cabinets and pantries to scour for everything that the recipe calls for. The
ingredients I needed were; unsweetened cocoa, butter, sugar, vanilla, salt, flour, and eggs. I
gathered all the items and scattered them across the counter so I can check them off the list that

I took a toothpick, a recommendation of the online recipe, and poked my brownies to make sure
that they were baked fully. If the toothpick comes out clean that means the brownies are done!
Thankfully, my brownies were done and were ready for the cooling process. After 30 or so
minutes of waiting, it was time to cut my brownies! I took a knife out of the drawer and began to
cut the dessert into squares and take them out using a spatula. I placed them all on a plate and
admired my work. I took a bite of one and was overjoyed that they tasted even better than they

Woolworths has capitalized on the idea of becoming the fresh food people . They have

Suicide By Emile Durkheim
In a classic sociological study, Durkheim (1966) identifies four types of suicide: altruistic and
fatalistic suicides which he associates with pre modern, traditional community and anomic and
egoistic suicides characteristic of modern society. (Kuhling, 2004) The ideas of sociologist,
Emile Durkheim have undoubtedly helped my understanding of suicide of contemporary society.
Durkheim has aided me in understanding the complexity of this topical issue and made me more
aware of the roots of suicide. Altruistic suicide is committed for the benefit of others. This is
whereby a certain individual feels obliged to commit suicide for the good of a group. An example
is someone who commits suicide for the good of a religious or political... Show more content on

(Crossman, 2017) Anomie refers to alienation caused by erosion of standards and values which
includes people in transitions such as adolescents. Durkheim s theory based on anomie has
greatly enhanced my understanding of suicide among adolescents today. Many teenagers today
suffer pain and according to him/her they have no reason to endure life s sufferings patiently
(Durkheim, 1951) and therefore revert to suicide as the easiest way out. Adolescence may be an
unsettling time and may be a major challenge for many in contemporary society. Therefore,
suicide amongst adolescents has risen dramatically in recent years for many a reason;
depression, peer pressure, stress, etc. These struggles can be academically, socially or family
orientated. We, adolescents fear rejection and annihilation and are not always able to deal with
these fears in an effective nor an efficient manner. Therefore, suicide is often a common answer
for many. Recent surveys indicate that as many as 1 out of 5 teenagers suffer clinical depression
and according to suicide.org depression is the third leading cause of death among 15 24 year olds
today. In conclusion, sociologist Durkheim, has greatly helped my understanding of suicide of
contemporary society. Suicide is very much a complex and difficult issue to understand, however
from the study of Durkheim s theory, it can be concluded that we are to

Ownership And Sense Of Self
What does it mean to you when you own something? Is it the gratification that makes it
rewarding? Or is it the cost and struggle it took to buy it? Or how about what others think about
your object? Ownership and sense of self comes together as a perception of how we see ourself
being an owner.
Buying something from a store or from a person makes it yours. When you buy something you re
paying for it in money that you earned which then makes it yours. People might say if they take an
object or find it, the object then belongs to them. They would be wrong since it would still belong
to that person even though they have it in their possession.
Ownership is important in a way that makes it a part of you. Mortimer J. Adler wrote, Full

The Life and Work of Carl Warren
Carl Warren was appointed the 14th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1953. Warren
was appointed to take the place of the current Chief Justice Fred Vinson who died suddenly of a
heart attack. So, Warren immediately began his term in the Supreme Court and did not get
Senate approval with March 1, 1954 on a simple voice vote of the full Senate without any of the
typical confirmation hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee, This approval process was
very noncontroversial and without any of the detailed reviews that a Supreme Court appointment
would typically face.4 Warren became a very controversial Supreme Court Justice after the
Senate did little to review how he might act as a Supreme Court Justice. This may have changed
how much review future Supreme Court appointments would get from the Senate. Carl Warren
was an average student in college with no experience as a judge before he became a very active
leader of the Supreme Court, making many controversial decisions for the times. His leadership
and decisions still impact our lives today. He was appointed by President Eisenhower mostly
because Eisenhower thought Warren was a middle of the road Republican (like Eisenhower) and
because Warren was a Catholic Eisenhower wanted to appeal to the Northeastern USA catholic
voters. Also, during the Republican Party presidential nominating convention of 1952, Warren, then
the Governor of California and a potential rival to Eisenhower for the office of President of

A Brief Note On Shale Gas And Natural Gas
Shale gas is a natural gas that can be extracted from the fabric of shale rocks by means of
hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. There is controversy surrounding this extraction process, as in
the process of building facilities in which gases are extracted, people are made aware of the
hazards that are involved both with building the site of extraction and with extracting the gas itself.
This essay aims to assess the extent to which these hazards can affect those residing in Lancashire.
Throughout the course of human history, conventional natural gas deposits have been the easiest to
extract from formations below the surface. These conventional deposits cannot last forever and
are declining in number, meaning that people are pushed to search for alternative sources whilst
increasing the price of the natural gas that is currently available (Berman, 2016). Fortunately, the
search for alternative sources for natural gas has generally been positive; recent utilisation of
unconventional gas deposits in the US which have led to them becoming the US s primary
source of indigenous gas production (Korn, 2010: 5). As humans advance technologically and
steadily improve their geological knowledge, the percentage of unconventional gas sources that
make up power supplies continue to grow. In 2010, 47% of the UK s electricity was produced by
burning natural gas. In comparison 28% of the electricity the UK had produced in 2010 was from
burning coal, 16% from nuclear reactors and 7% from

Suicide And Suicide
While awareness of suicide and its rippling effect on the community is increasing, much of the
research into the psychological impact of those exposed to death by suicide has been focused on
adults.
Which is why top academic and suicide postvention expert, Karl Andriessen has focused his PhD
project at the University of New South Wales, on investigating the grief, mental health and help
seeking experiences of adolescents who have lost a loved one through suicide.
The study, supported by the Anika Foundation for Adolescent Depression and Suicide, identifies the
adolescents experiences, which may be specific for this age group, to determine whether they
require specific attention from caregivers or health professionals.
It is well known that exposure to suicide and bereavement after suicide is a risk factor for adverse
outcomes related to health, mental health and social functioning, says Mr Andriessen.
We started this research project because most of the research has been focused on the adult
population, not on the younger age groups.
Hence, little is known about their grief and mental experiences, and their needs for support.
The study aims to redress that gap in our knowledge.
The project involved semi structured telephone interviews with 39 adolescents bereaved by suicide
and/or another cause of death.
During the interview participants talked about their relationship with the person they had lost,
feelings and needs at time of death, support sought

The Components Of The Right Equipment
right equipment is one thing but also having the correct substances is vital. As in manufacturing
most of the equipment are mechanical controlled systems, alongside with electronics they ll consist
of actuators, mechanisms, motors, valves and other mechanical parts . So essential substances can
be lubrication to ensure seamless and flawless functionality to coating the equipment to avoid rust
or corrosions depending on what products are being produced.
Transportation: Transportation is essential. 8/10 cases raw materials, essential ingredients, and
many useful items are procured from other facilities, transportation is vital. From the costs for rent

Uncertainty in Manufacturing:
What does this mean? Uncertainty in manufacturing is when the fate of a company or a product
is not certain. This can be due to the reputation the company has or the product produced has
failed to gain popularity. Quality of the product is vital, consumers expect to buy products with
the intention that it will be reliable. For an example the games console Atari Jaguar which was
released in the early 1990 s. Featuring a 64 bit system it was very powerful for its time, and was
significantly cheaper then rivals. So to the average person you d think this would have been a
huge success. However in the marketing campaigns the slogan Do The Maths was used as a
sales tactic, unfortunately this lead to potential customers being made redundant, this was seen
as a cheeky ploy on Atari s part. The design was not ergonomic, the control pad was simply too
big and consisted of loads of buttons which rendered the feel of the pad uncomfortable.
Furthermore a very small selections of game were made to run on Atari s firmware, the console
also didn t have a great software to run in the first place. Unfortunately the console was a failure
and also led to Atari s demise. So by looking at that example, that was believed to be a huge
success but since little

Scapegoating In Society
Scapegoating in Society In Bill Moyers interview with Margaret Atwood, she states When
societies come under stress these kinds of things happen. People start looking around for
essentially human sacrifices (?). A scapegoat is a person or a group of people who are punished
for the mistakes of others. In the history of our society, scapegoats have been both necessary and
important. The reason for this is because it unites people and can be seen as a temporary solution
to problems that a society may be facing. Is it easier to get rid of individuals or groups of people
than it is to solve the underlying problem? History shows that it is common for scapegoatingto be
used especially under stressful situations. Psychologically uncomfortable feelings such as anger,
frustration, envy, guilt, and fear are projected onto another person or group. This is the human
ego at work. Scapegoating has been a part of our history and although it was more barbaric in the
past, as a society we still express the same wants and feelings in different ways. For example, in
ancient society, humans and animals were sacrificed after a disaster in hopes that the community
would avoid further punishment from the gods. In the bible days, the people sacrificed goats and
lambs as a cleansing for their sins. Abraham was asked to sacrificehis only son Isaac, he was to be
used as a scapegoat to prove Abraham s love for God. In the end, God provided Abraham with a
sacrificial lamb instead. This is one

Artificiality In Joel Edgerton s The Gift
Joel Edgerton s The Gift is great because it s so well constructed. This is Edgerton s directorial
debut, and it s a masterpiece of direction, specifically. I noticed this immediately. The entire thing
feels orchestrated, but never seems fake because the actors are really quite subtle. Plus an
orchestrated plot doesn t particularly mean a bad one. The Gift shakes the audience around so much
that it s almost worth the slight amount of artificiality. REALLY WORTH IT.
The Gift has a young couple, played by Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall, who move into a new
house. Their lives are then upheaved by the appearance of an old acquaintance, named Gordo (Joel
Edgerton). The Bateman s character is hiding something, and everything unwinds. I will not say ...

There always seems to be something off. Always something that makes your chest tighten up, and
your hands shake. This is achieved, I think, because Edgerton uses staging incredibly, even though
he pushes it a little far. The film is over staged, but it somewhat works to it s benefit. Edgerton
doesn t just want you to see the characters; he wants you to see the whole frame. He wants you to
see what s in the background, and the way it s all staged means that you notice that. These small
details in the background then link to other details, and so on, and so forth. It s really satisfying
when you realize that something small that you noticed earlier pays off in a big way, and it
makes the film seem all the more rich. Richness that the film needs to counterweight the
somewhat implausible proceedings, as well as the fact that it s all a little over staged. The
details also make the film pretty scary. There are two jump scares in this movie, but they feel
earned because there is truly something to be scared of on the other end of them; one song s use
is so scary I almost cried when it came blasting

Feminist Criticism Of Virginity In The Works Of William...
In this Critical Review, I will talk about the taboo of Virginity which regulated female sexuality in
the age of Shakespeare. Tracing the developments in the Feminist Criticism of Shakespeare, I will
discuss the various allusions which Shakespeare employed to describe virginity in his plays. I will
conclude by presenting the contemporary view of feminist criticism ofShakespeare.
Jean E. Howard analyses a brief history of development of Feminist Criticism within Shakespeare
Studies. Feminist Criticism of Shakespeare changed the landscape in Shakespeare studies.
Feminists analysed the portrayal of women characters in each genre, focusing on the patriarchal
norms and gender stereotypes that shaped these representations. However, in the 1970s and early
1980s, the first goal was to change the questions one could ask of Shakespeare s plays and to put
issues such as gender and sexuality on the critical agenda. The 1980s, however, saw a new emphasis
on historicising the particular gender system within which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The first one assumes that Shakespeare has earned his position at the heart of the traditional
canon of English Literature by creating characters who reflect every possible nuance of that
richness and variety which is to be found in the world around us. His female characters,
according to this view, reflect accurately the whole range of specifically female qualities ( which
qualities are supposed to be fixed and immutable from Shakespeare s own day down to our own).
The Second line of approach assumes quite the opposite. Shakespeare s Society is taken to be
oppressively chauvinistic ... Shakespeare s maleness therefore makes it inevitable that his female
characters are warped and distorted. (1)As Russ McDonald asserts that the second position began to
emerge as the dominant feminist approach during the late 1980s and

College Professors Essay
College Professors
The first day of class for a college student is like drawing cards in a poker game. Just as the cards
that one receives determines their outcome in poker, the types of professors a student gets on the
first day will determine the success of their year. The difference between a helpful and a harmful
professor can easily result in a much lower grade. College professors have a wide range of
personalities and backgrounds. However, professors fall into one of 3 categories: helpful,
malicious, or uncaring.
One type of professor in the college system is the helpful professor. This professor can be
recognized right away by their smile and joyfulness in the classroom. These professors give upbeat

This professor has a sour attitude toward life in general; therefore they want the students to be
miserable as well. Their lectures are never to the point and usually stray off to make some
negative point about life. They encourage students to ask questions, but only so that they can
make the person with the question feel incompetent for asking it. They are willing to talk with a
student after class, but unlike the helpful professor, the malicious professor is only there to
criticize. They will emphasize the student s faults but never point out their strengths, thus
lowering the self esteem of the student. The tests given by the malicious professor are vague,
full of trickery, and composed of the most difficult material. These tests are not designed to
survey the student s knowledge of the subject, but rather to trip them up and make them fail. If
one works really hard it is possible to earn a good grade in this type of professor s class, but in
general the grades will be as low as the malicious professor can make them.
The third type of professor is the uncaring professor. This type of instructor has lost interest in
teaching; therefore, they do not put any effort into it. This professor can be recognized by their
monotonous tone of voice and lack of interest of the subject. Their lectures only cover the basics of
the material. They make no effort to appeal to the students interests; consequently, most students

The Effects Of The Civil War And The Woods Of Ashokan
The civil war was an important event in the history. During and after the civil war, the natural world
provided calmness and peace from the ongoing events. Many artists tried to portray the effects of
the civil war through their paintings. One such artist was Thomas Worthington Whittredge.
Whittredge worked during the same time period as the civil war. All of his paintings are naturalistic
and realistic. One such painting was Woods of Ashokan, which was created by Whittredge after the
conclusion of the civil war. Thomas Worthington Whittredge was an American artist who was

Dr Home Character Analysis
1)Describe the following characters
a)Dr. House
Dr. House is a doctor who is always looking for the truth in every situation regardless of who they
are. He seems to have a way of seeing through people and their tales regardless of what they may
be. He is a believer, but also knows there is a medical reason for everything. He has a mindset to
get to the bottom of everything. He is also the go to guy in the hospital if there is a serious
problem. People like him and trust him. I would say he is a confident man.
b)The Teenager

She is giving up on life at this point. The doctor has prescribed four different types of pain
medications, but they are not working. She knows she is at the end, but the doctor does not want
her to give up. She said she lived, but is ready for things to be over. She has basically given up to
the illness. She meets the teenager and he turns her thinking around. He makes her think different,
feel different, as well as feel better. She now believes and wants a life.
e)The other doctors
The doctor s seem to be optimistic throughout this process. They seem to believe the things the
teenager states because he knows things other would not typically know. They see the medical
reports, hear the diagnosis, and see the Father s reaction, but cannot put it all together. The doctor

Princess Culture And Gender Stereotypes In Princess Movies
From a young age, princess culture has impacted the lives of numerous people. Some individuals
may have spent their childhood in the attire of their favorite Disney princess while they put on
their best rendition of the character they admired most. Other children went seemingly unfazed by
the phenomenon, as their peers remained spellbound by the magical world of princesses. With
Disney s debut of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, princess movies provided the defining factor
of the Disney entertainment empire for years to come. From this, fairy tales embarked into a
territory that would touch the lives of many in a new way. However, since princess culture has
considerably grown, opponents, such as Monika Bartyzel, question if princess... Show more content

By doing so, Disney princess culture increases gender roles and affects how young girls view
themselves.
Bartyzel s wide array of evidence to support her claim that princess culture narrowly defines what
femininity means to young consumers makes her argument compelling. She used Disney s
unfitting princess makeover of the character Merida from Brave who desperately fought against
princess ideals in the movie as an example of how Disney has a habit of backtracking their own
progress. Bartyzel also provided accounts from mothers who support her claim by expressing that
their daughters behavior had been shaped by princess culture. Additionally, Disney routinely
overshadows the darkness of traditional fairy tales with overly idealistic narratives and has a history
of depicting harmful racial stereotypes, problematic female characterizations, and unrealistic
storylines (Bartyzel, 2015). Bartyzel examined these stereotypes and problematic characterizations
with the design alterations made to Disney princesses; specifically, princesses of color. Finally,
Bartyzel reinforced her argument by conveying that women are diverse and to overlook these
differences affects how young girls view themselves. Bartyzel s professional presentation, the
various forms of evidence, her counter arguments, and her examination of the different issues tied
to princess culture helped convey a strong argument.
Bartyzel is not the only one who believes that Disney has a

The Play Beauty And The Beast By James Clemens
The James Clemens theater production, Beauty and the Beast, was an overall decent play, that
had a lot of energy and very eventful. There were some faults due to lack of detail, set visual, and
technical issues, such as audio. There were also great aspects of the play such as the actors,
costumes, and special effects. The audience could easily tell the microphones would cut off and
on, and It was very hard to ignore. Belle s doorway to her house did not look realistic, you could
easily tell the door was flimsy and seemed like It was made out of cardboard. The costumes were
great, I really loved Belle s yellow dress, It had a tremendous amount of detail. Meanwhile, the

The screams in that scene really made the whole scene come together. The forest scene was really
beautiful and my favorite scene with the lighting. The flashes of blue, pink, and purple made the

brought a positive energy to the audience. Overall the lighting was fantastic and I could tell the
technical director put a lot of effort into it. Hair and Makeup, I thought Madame De La Bouche
had the best hair and makeup, including the white wig. The makeup made the actress stand out
and It almost looked real, but it really made the costume come together. The actors also did a
really good job In playing their part, I felt like Belle had a good connection with her father. I also
felt like chip and Mrs Potts had a good relationship The dancers brought energy to some parts of

The topic of abortion is one of the most controversial topics affecting our society. The disagreement

Benefits Of A Small Business
I.Executive Summary In order to finance future expansion or get past a temporary business slow
down (particularly in seasonal business) it is necessary to raise working capital and that involves
determining which method of financing is best; debt or equity.
II.Business Challenge
One of the main challenges businesses face when trying to grow is how to raise the necessary
working capital to achieve the necessary growth, whether for additional employees, inventory or
plant expansion, technology upgrades or other. The big decision then becomes whether to raise the
working capital in the form of debt or equity.

Assets of the business are usually held as collateral.
Owners of small companies must usually self guarantee the business loan.
Debt financing is typically easier to get than equity financing. If the company is showing good
results and has positive cash flow, debt can typically be raised by going to banks. Though lending
is still tighter than in years past, it has loosened significantly in the last two years allowing for
business growth financing.
Bank loans can be in various forms depending on the company s needs. Typical loans are working
capital loan with a fixed payment of principal and interest for a specific term. Depending on the
strength of the company these loans are usually based around some form of measurement such as
points above or below LIBOR or Prime Rate.
Prime rate in July 2015 is at 3.25% and LIBOR (London Interbank Offered Rate) is approximately
0.81%. Depending on the bank or financial institution a company borrows from will determine
which index is used. Regardless, companies will pay approximately the same based on their
riskiness to the bank as determined by the banks underwriters.
The average interest rate for a small business loan depends upon a number of factors. One factor is
the size of the loan. For example, loans under $100,000 have a higher interest rate than loans over
$100,000, according to a July rate report by Bloomberg Businessweek.

The World Tourism Organization ( Untwo )
The world tourism organisation (UNTWO) states: tourism comprises the activities of persons
travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one
consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity
remunerated from within the place visited. Throughout this essay the concept of tourismwill be
discussed using a systems approach as well as using Neil Leiper s basic whole tourism system
(Leiper, 2004) theory. The vulnerability of the open tourism system to periodic disruption will
also be looked at through the example of The September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on The United
States of America. 9/11 as it is referred to today, was an event that shocked the world. Four
airplanes were hijacked by the Islamic extremist group, al Qaeda, and carried out suicide attacks in
the United States. Over 3,000 people were killed because of these attacks as well as the tourism
industry suffering worldwide and the American employment and economy declining significantly.
The tourism system is complex. Tourism has been analysed using a systems approach since the
1960s the idea that a single structure is comprised of multiple related and dependent groups. Key
to this approach is the idea of interdependence; because everything is related, a change in one
component of the system will affect other components in the system. Neil Leiper designed a basic
whole tourism system (Leiper, 2004) that showed tourism

Female Poets And The Dark Side Of Life Research Paper
Female Poets and the Dark Side of Life
During the mid nineteenth century many female poets including
Christina Rossetti seemed to lean upon the dark side of life presenting very dark and shadowed
emotions within their poetry. Yet this is not to say that they were depressed but in many ways in
can be inferred that these dark themes may have been influenced by the era in which they were
living. Many historians have suggested that the second half of the nineteenth century was culturally,
a rather strange period. The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was started in 1848 by Dante Gabriel

Raphael represented high renaissance, a time when painters, instead of letting their subjects dictate
their qualities to the artist, would manipulate the subject into their own ideal of beauty. Thus, all
realism was lost. The PRB, with full spirit, denounced this art of idealization, and led the way to
produce works based on real landscapes and real models, and paid intense attention to accuracy of
detail and color
These painters had a specific agenda. Instead of painting the typical still lifes, landscapes and
seascapes, they drew their subject matters from medieval tales, bible stories, classical mythology,
and nature.
Using bright colors on a white background, the artists were able to achieve great depth and
brilliance.
No one can deny that the works these young men produced are truly great. However, in their own
immature rebelliousness, they unfortunately made hypocrites of themselves. The PRB scorned The
Royal
Academy for its snobbiness and closed, high society ways, although they themselves were very
reluctant and too jealous to allow many others into their society as well. The artists painted with
great detail and professed to paint realistically. However, although they didn t idealize, they often
omitted distortions. This causes their work to have an almost surreal effect. I ask too, how could
they call their work realistic with the very subject matter that they chose?
Certainly mythological

Over the years I ve seen many changes in real estate investing. Currently, I m seeing a subtle but oh
so ever present transition in real estate investing. It involves a shift in the way folks think about
their real estate investment, a movement towards being more dispassionate, a movement away
from qualitative and being more focused on the quantitative. Folks historically look at property
differently than they do other investments. They look at their rental properties with the same
viewpoint that they look at their home, with some pride of possession.
You would not look on your technology stock with pride of possession, unless maybe it was
Apple stock and you used to be a Macophile. But with real estate, there has a tendency to not only
take pride in your properties, but to extend the stock analogy a buy and hold mind set.
What I am both seeing and recommending is a shift away from that. For one thing, if you go into
RE investing with that disposition, it will break your heart. You can not think about investment

The Beauty Myth, By Naomi Wolf
THE TRUTH BEHIND BEAUTY
As a woman, have you ever faced a mirror, gazed at your reflection and scrutinized the craters on
your face, the excess flab in your stomach, the scars on your legs? Did you recognize yourself, or
did your reflection show you a stranger a monster? Did you turn green in jealousy when you turned
the television on or rummaged through the magazines glossy pages as you stared at the flawless
and picture perfect models?
On the other hand, if you are a man, have you ever fixed your eyes longingly to some lady and
mumbled to yourself, Wow, she is beautiful ?
Women of today are fortunate because they are recognized and are more powerful compared to
what they have to go through years ago. They are empowered and successful because they fought
for their rights. However, writer and feminist Naomi Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth: How Images

Fall 2016
Parkinson s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms or tremors,
rigidity, (bradykinesia) or slowness of movement and posture instability. Parkinson s involves the
malfunction and death of vital nerve cells in the brain. This disease primarily affects neurons in
area of the brain called substantia nigra. Some of these dying neurons produce dopamine a chemical
that sends messages to the part of the brain that controls movement and coordination. The
symptoms of Parkinson s disease usually begin on one side of the body and within time spread
to both sides of the body. The primary process that causes Parkinson s disease signs and
symptoms is when dopamine producing nerve cells in the brain die prematurely. Dopamine is one
of the main neurotransmitters in the brain. In a healthy brain, ample dopamine is produced so that
the brain cells can coordinate smooth and precise muscle movements. However, when dopamine
cells are lost, brain cells communicate abnormally with muscles, which can lead to impaired body
movement. (Null, 2013, pp. 153 176) When Parkinson s disease progresses there is a gradual loss
of many functions that depend on muscle control such as the ability to write legibly, or speak

The Outsiders Reflection
In the novel The Outsiders, one of the many thematic statements is that people become trapped on
one side of an argument. They only see from one perspective and fail to see the other side. The
paragraphs below illustrate when and how Ponyboy changes his perspective, understands the other
side, and gradually breaks the barrierbetween the Socs and greasers.
Ponyboy started to learn that not all Socs were arrogant and violent when Dally took the gang of
greasers to the movie. Coincidentally, this was the day after Johnny got jumped by a group of
Socs. They saw 2 girls named Marcia and Cherry who were Socs. Dally asked Cherry and Marcia
if they wanted cokes. Marcia took the Coca Cola, although Cherry didn t. Afterwards, Cherry
asked if Ponyboy wanted to go get some popcorn and they started talking and chatting. While the
were chatting Ponyboy told Cherry what had happened to Johnny. Through that conversation
Cherry was able to convince Ponyboy that not all Socs were violent and arrogant. From my
perspective I think that Greasers and Socs weren t really all that different. Moreover, Ponyboy
never actually knew what the Greasers had done to the Socs. For example all Socs aren t like that,
she said.
You have to believe me, Ponyboy. Not all of us are like that.
Sure, I said.

Biodiversity Hotspot of the Mountains of Central Asia
Central Asia is associated with seven countries: Western China, Southern Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan,
Kyrgyzstan, northeastern Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan. Central Asia has many sub
regions, a wide range of altitude belts, and surrounded by some world s highest mountain ranges,
such as the Tien Shan and the Pamir, the latter is known as the roof of the world . The mountains of
Central Asia have a high level of biological diversity due to its ecosystems, populations, and
species because of its unique geographical locations. The mountains play the role of the origins
for many varieties of domesticated plants and animals (Yessekin, 2005). There are around 5,500

Chesnutt expresses this as sight imagery through the boy wept and also a keen eyed . Chesnutt
uses the first image to give a demonstration of the horror and grief the barber went through as a
boy. He also used this image to reveal that the barber has seen and experienced violence. Chesnutt
also uses this image to show that the barber has felt and understands love. He also chose this to give
a feeling of understanding and compassion towards African Americans who has faced injustice.
Chesnutt uses the second image to reveal that the barber is not the weeping boy and has
transformed into a man just trying to do his job. Chesnutt uses the second image to demonstrate
how unhappy the barber felt about shaving the Colonel. He uses this to demonstrate that even how
unhappy the barber feels he is controlling himself from murdering the colonel. Chesnutt stresses

Medieval Ireland Research Paper
Urban authorities had to enact provisions for the health and safety in their urban town for their
citizens to ensure that the town survived and prospered. Medieval Irish towns were occupying a
small amount of land, nevertheless it was overcrowded. Hence, there was a need for provisions
against fire, insults, pigs, lepers and filth.
Safety was an important aspect and liberty in Irish towns. Clearly, this is shown by the appearance
of walls that surrounded the towns in Anglo Norman Ireland. Townwalls were curtain walls with
towers, gates, ditches and they formed a complete enclosure around the urban settlement. There
were many purposes to these walls, although in terms of safety, they were used primarily to protect
against invasion. Accordingly, to protect, the walls must be strong and able to withstand attack, so
citizens in towns applied to murage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are always exceptions. A major attack on Anglo Norman Irish towns came in 1315
with the invasion of the Bruce family from Scotland. Edward Bruce landed in Larne and
subsequently made his way south with the Irish. Although this attack ended in defeat, many towns
were affected and their safety was breached. Dundalk was a town that was affected as the town
was burned on 29th June 1315 due to the actions of Bruce.
There were many internal problems within a town that made the urban authorities enact bye laws to
prevent major problems. One such problem was that of public insults. The urban administration of
Dublin believed that public insults against them (including the mayor, bailiffs and the council) and
men and women of substance was a problem. This is shown in both the White book of Dublin and
the Dublin Chain Book, where it was decreed that anyone whom insults those mention above will
be subject to a fine. These people must have felt threaten and needed a provision made to protect
them and to deter any further

endemic areas the disease would go unnoticed. There are a couple of reasons why it would go

second reason would be the manner of exposure. The final reason would be the transfer of antigens,
antibodies and anti idiotypes from the mother. Immediately after exposure the person will have

Concept Analysis
Management Focusing on Acute Pain: A Multidisciplinary Concept Analysis
The concept of managing acute pain is extremely significant to nursing as pain is one of the most
common problems for which patients seek out health care resources. Pain is a complex and abstract
concept that encompasses sensory, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual perceptions of pain
that may occur in combination with physical pain. Pain is difficult to describe and often hard to
measure; although, most healthcare providers agree that pain is subjective and is to be measured
qualitatively and quantitatively as the patient perceives its intensity. Pain can affect the quality of
life of the individual by impacting them physically, emotionally, and... Show more content on

Pain is described as a process instead of a sensation. Pain can be influenced by decreasing sensory
inputs, and changing behavioral cognitive factors. It was no longer necessary to differentiate
between organic and psychogenic pain. GCT is to be utilized as a multidisciplinary approach in
pain management along with CBT and pharmacological interventions. Defining pain from a
psychological perspective, it can be agreed that pain involves a physiological stimulus. The
presence of a physiological stimulus cannot determine the pain behavior. The impact of an
individual s mood, cognition, culture, social, and environmental influences need to be considered
to view the totality of the individual and pain management as a complete concept.
Medical Discipline
Upp, Kent, and Tighe (2013) in their review of the evolution of acute pain management (APM)
recognized that pain is no longer treated as a symptom but as a disease process. APM by
anesthesiologists broadened from the perioperative period to include interventional and
pharmaceutical treatment of non surgical pain in collaboration with chronic pain clinicians. In
APM the totality of the patient is treated through a multi modal and multidisciplinary approach.

The Influence Of The Domino Theory In Vietnam
The U.S. couldn t have one this war because they didn t take the time to gain the intelligence
required to give them the upper hand, research what technology would work or wouldn t work, and
create a strong clear mission for everyone to follow.
The U.S fought in the Vietnam War because of the domino theory. The domino theory is the fear
that if one country fell to the influence of communism then the surrounding countries would soon
follow. President Eisenhower quotes You have a row of dominoes set up, you knock over the first

The Importance Of Football Uniforms
Football Uniform What if football players did not wear uniforms? Football teams would look
discombobulated, and Football players would not be able to specify who is on which team
during a game. A football uniform has so many different components. Football uniforms have
three main sections: a lower body section, a torso, and a helmet section. Each section includes
different equipment and items that make up each part. Some of pieces of the uniform are
strictly for enhancing performance, while others are for improving style, but every part is
important to a football uniform. First, football players wear important uniform pieces on their
lower body. The lower body part of a football uniform contains tights, a girdle, football pants, a
towel, and cleats. The first piece of the lower body section of a uniform are tights. Tights are
tight fitting pants that fit to a player s legs, hence the name tights. Tights are skin tight and keep
the leg muscles stable and cool. Tights also posses a component of style. Tights come in all
different colors and can bring a uniform together. For example, players on the Minnesota
Vikings all wear purple tights that look awesome. The next part of the lower body is a girdle. A
girdle is used strictly for keeping players safe by protecting the hips and thighs. In a way, a
girdle is practically underwear with pads. The next important piece of the lower body are
football pants. Football pants go just below the knees and are tighter fitting around the legs.
Football pants are built to endure hits and rough games, and they have knee pads to add
protection. A belt loops around the pants to keep the pants from falling down. Football pants
vary in color depending on the team color and style choice. Football pants also bring a football
uniform together by giving the uniform a solid pop in color. Following the football pants, the
next part of the lower body is the towel. The towel is a small, rectangular, white towel that
velcros around the belt. Towels are both useful and good looking. Players use towels to keep
their hands dry so that they can throw and catch the football to the best of their ability. Towels
also give a football uniform a flash of style. The final piece of the lower body

Why Is Job Shadowing Important In High School
Why high school does not prepare one for life?
In high school teachers do not prepare you for the things that the real world has. Life lessons

prepares you for a job, which a job is something you need to survive in the real world, however
there are aspects that come with applying for jobs. Applying for a job should be a class or a
taught lesson while you re in high school. For instance, what you should wear? How to approach
the people that are interviewing you? How to dress? These are important aspects that are not

kind of way and saying what sup instead of greeting them in the proper way, if this was
mandatory to learn in high school he or she would have been more likely prepared and knew
what would come up at the interview and would know how to approach the situation in a
mannerly way. Applying for a job and filling out applications are important life lessons that should

Cretaceous Time Period Research Paper
Cretaceous Period
Everyone knows about the dinosaurs and how they went extinct. This was one of the major
events that took place in the Cretaceous Time Period. The Cretaceous Period was the longest and
last of three time periods in the Mesozoic Era. This time period lasted from about 144 million
years ago until about million years ago (about 79 million years), and over that 79 million years the
earth changed dramatically. Way back in the Cretaceousall of earth s land was together in one big
super continent we call Pangea. The average temperature was warmer throughout earth then in
comparison to present day. The north and south poles were still colder than places along the
equator even back then. But still, the earth was warmer than it is now with excessive rains in some
places and little to no rain in deserts. Maybe the most notable ... Show more content on

Approximately 65.5 million years ago most of the planet s land animals and many of the animals
in the seas went extinct. As far as we know this was caused by a massive asteroid colliding with
earth in what is now the Chicxulub crater in the Yucatan peninsula. The collision is thought to have
caused tsunamis and clouds of hot dust were sent into the atmosphere and probably started huge
wild fires. Many of the animals that survived all of that would later die when the sun was blocked
out for months or possibly years causing temperatures to drop and plants to die.
I would not like to have lived in the Cretaceous Period. For one thing pretty much all of the
planet s land area was in a much hotter climate than we live in which I don t think I would like.
Another reason is the fact that the land and plants were different in a way that may have been
interesting to see but not so great to live in. And of course the obvious reason that there were still
dinosaurs which would probably be pretty dangerous and make life

1. Introduction
Filter is a device used that removes unwanted noise in the signal.
Classification of filter
Filters are classified into different categories depending on their transfer function.
Linear and nonlinear
Time variant and time invariant
Casual and non casual Analog and digital Passive a ndactive filter
Infinite impulse response (IIR) or finite impulse response (FIR) filter.
IIR(Infinite impulse response
IIR filters are digital filters with infinite impulse response. They have the feedback (a recursive
part of a filter) and are known as recursive digital filters. They are the time invariant systems. IIR
filter has better frequency response than FIR filters.
FIR(Finite impulse response) The transfer function of FIR filter approaches the ideal as the filter
order increases, thus increasing the complexity and amount of time needed for processing input
samples of a signal being filtered.
IIR filters require more multiplication and addition when compared to FIR, because FIR is of a
higher order in comparison to IIR, which is of lower order
Digital filter
A digital filter uses a digital processor

Trim Castle
Send me somewhere in Ireland. The Mrs. Sparr asked. Well the place I am going to send you,
Mrs. Sparr, is a place called Trim Castle. And here is an interesting fact I found about that exact
place. Trim Castle is built on the site of a wooden fortress, which was burned down by the Irish
while on British rule. I believe that Trim Castle is the absolute best place for Mrs. Sparr to go
that is in Ireland. First of all, Trim Castle sounds breathtaking, astonishing, and an especially
riveting place to go. If this castle looks familiar it is because the people who created the movie
Braveheart shot part of the movie in that very castle. It was used as a scene in a Scottish assault
on York. The castle itself is in ruins and it was the scene of many battles. But, don t be sad because

Sparr should pick this place to go is because it is very historic. Trim Castle was the first and
largest stone castle ever constructed in Ireland. It was also taken and retaken repeatedly by
many groups of people who were fighting. Trim Castle, when it was newer, more acted as a
garrison than a place of residence. One last reason, the defenses of Trim Castle are amazing and
very well thought out. Trim Castle covers about three acres of land. It is surrounded by outer
curtain walls. Complete with defensive towers to defend a seventy five foot high central

Out Of Ignorance In Socratic Philosophy
Socrates argues that all evil is born out of ignorance. According to Socrates, evil or wrongdoing
is the result of ignorance. Socrates assumed that nobody willingly opts to do wrong or evil
things. He says that doing wrong always injured the wrongdoer and that no one seeks to carry
harm upon themselves. The Socratic philosophy reveals that is not normal for an individual to
want to do wrong on the grounds that their perception for self interest keeps them from doing as
such. People do things every day that we may think is good but in all actuality is wrong. We
may do it because we think it may have a positive outcome but deep down we know it s not right.
We may do wrong even though it may harm us. For example, a person that cuts themselves. They
re dealing with some type of pain or issue that becomes unbearable and they re just looking for an
easy way to end that feeling. By cutting themselves they think they were relieved stress while at
the same time causing bodily harm. All they want done is to relieve the stress and rid the bad
feelings they may be having. Nobody... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lot of people may agree with this because to them only bad people would commit a crime. I
would have to disagree with this statement because not all criminals are evil people. A poor
person that can t afford food for himself or family may be forced to steal food or any necessary
items that may pertain to his survival. This person isn t thinking about the consequences or what
may go wrong if he is caught, all he is worried about is what he can do to feed his family with
limited resources. This doesn t mean he is an evil person, he s just trying to feed himself by any
means necessary and unfortunately for him he got caught. Maybe if her knew the repercussions of
his actions he may have thought twice before committing such a criminal act. There are many
people who are in jail that are not evil but just ignorant to the consequences of their

Pros and Cons of Genetically Modified Foods Essay
The most wonderful activity a human being can experience is new flavors and foods. For
example, the first time a person tastes a delicious juicy piece of prime rib or a delightful
hamburger with cheese and ham, his world is never the same. However, since the beginning of the
twentieth century, the production of food has been supplemented by science. This has triggered an
angry dispute between the people who support the advances of biotechnology and people who love
nature. In order to understand the controversy, we have to know the meaning of genetically
modified foods. With new technological advances, scientists can modify seeds from a conventional

The key is in the production. The growth of GM crops is faster than the conventional seeds. For
that reason, farmers can produce more and more. These seeds are resistant to cold and hot
weather and have more chances to resist dryness than the others. Also, these crops are herbicide
resistant; that means that farmers can spray with herbicide and defeat the weeds without altering
the crop. For that reason, a lot of money is saved by the reduced use of pesticides, and the cost of
production is benefited. Almost 8.25 millions farmers all over the world planted genetically
modified seeds in 2004, compared to 7 million in 2003, said the international Service for the
Acquisition of Agri biotech Applications (ISAAA)( Biotech 1).
In addition to the strong production, as John B. Alfred, a professor in the department of food
science and technology at Ohio State University, said, These foods are as safe and nutritious as
their conventional counterparts (Alfred 1). These GM plants are modified to produce proteins that
plants would not produce by natural means. They grow up with built in Vitamin A that prevents
blindness in people who have Vitamin A deficiency. Scientists have also created GM potatoes
which absorb less oil when fried. That means less fat in the potato, converting popular french fries
from junk food to nutritious and healthy food. Scientists have also developed an apple with a built
in vaccine which prevents childhood pneumonia ( GM Food 1). These are only

My Experience In Singapore
A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. These
words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly describe how my travel experience in Singapore
this past summer has changed my life. Traveling to Singapore has been an item on my bucket
list that I never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my
travel, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while
visiting the major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with
the Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the beauty of the country. Because of this, my
travel to Singapore has given me a new perspective on countries and has broadened my horizons
in terms of travelling to a new place. On July 31st, 2017, my trip to Singapore commenced with
a four hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at seven o clock in the morning. Despite having
woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on sleep, I was euphoric that I
was finally given an opportunity to visit such a multi cultured country. As the airplane began to
ascend, I leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have
flown a couple of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive. However,
my nausea soon subsided when the airplane levelled out and the flight attendants strolled along
the aisles to distribute snacks. Shortly after, I peeked out the window and admired the thin
wisps of clouds in the dawn sky until I succumbed to my much needed slumber. I woke up from
my nap when I felt a light tap on my shoulder by my brother, Alex. He told me that it was time for
the plane to begin its descent so I gathered my belongings and adjusted my seat until it was
upright. As the airplane began to descend, I was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. I could feel
so much energy rush through my veins as my ears popped and I finally heard the flight attendant
say, Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Singapore Changi Airport! As soon as I stepped off of
the airplane, I was met with many fluorescent lights lining the lofty ceilings and glass windows
showcasing the modernistic architecture Singapore was

  • 5. Oskar Schindler Argumentative Essay Over 11 million people died in the holocaust, and more than 7 million of them were Jewish. Oskar Schindler was an entrepreneur who sacrificed himself for a cause he believed was unjust. He spent most of his life around Germany in Europe. During the Holocaust, he saved over 1,200 people from the gas chambers. There are some people who don t think of him as a hero, but as a man looking to make an easy dollar. In my opinion Oskar Schindlerwas a hero of the highest class and deserves all the credit he received for his actions. When Oskar was born in 1908, no one could ve guessed he would have such an impact on the world. When Oskar was a young boy, he adored his father and strived to be like him. His Father and Mother were both German, even though he was born in Zwittau, Hungary. His Father, Johann, owned a farm machinery business that Oskar eventually worked at. He had one sister, named Elfriede, who was seven years younger than him. After Oskar attended primary and secondary school, he enrolled in a technical school. • 10. Suicide By Emile Durkheim In a classic sociological study, Durkheim (1966) identifies four types of suicide: altruistic and fatalistic suicides which he associates with pre modern, traditional community and anomic and egoistic suicides characteristic of modern society. (Kuhling, 2004) The ideas of sociologist, Emile Durkheim have undoubtedly helped my understanding of suicide of contemporary society. Durkheim has aided me in understanding the complexity of this topical issue and made me more aware of the roots of suicide. Altruistic suicide is committed for the benefit of others. This is whereby a certain individual feels obliged to commit suicide for the good of a group. An example is someone who commits suicide for the good of a religious or political... Durkheim s theory based on anomie has greatly enhanced my understanding of suicide among adolescents today. Many teenagers today suffer pain and according to him/her they have no reason to endure life s sufferings patiently (Durkheim, 1951) and therefore revert to suicide as the easiest way out. Adolescence may be an unsettling time and may be a major challenge for many in contemporary society. Therefore, suicide amongst adolescents has risen dramatically in recent years for many a reason; depression, peer pressure, stress, etc. These struggles can be academically, socially or family orientated. We, adolescents fear rejection and annihilation and are not always able to deal with these fears in an effective nor an efficient manner. Therefore, suicide is often a common answer for many. Recent surveys indicate that as many as 1 out of 5 teenagers suffer clinical depression and according to suicide.org depression is the third leading cause of death among 15 24 year olds today. In conclusion, sociologist Durkheim, has greatly helped my understanding of suicide of contemporary society. • 11. Ownership And Sense Of Self What does it mean to you when you own something? Is it the gratification that makes it rewarding? Or is it the cost and struggle it took to buy it? Or how about what others think about your object? Ownership and sense of self comes together as a perception of how we see ourself being an owner. Buying something from a store or from a person makes it yours. When you buy something you re paying for it in money that you earned which then makes it yours. People might say if they take an object or find it, the object then belongs to them. They would be wrong since it would still belong to that person even though they have it in their possession. Ownership is important in a way that makes it a part of you. Mortimer J. Adler wrote, Full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Life and Work of Carl Warren Carl Warren was appointed the 14th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1953. Warren was appointed to take the place of the current Chief Justice Fred Vinson who died suddenly of a heart attack. So, Warren immediately began his term in the Supreme Court and did not get Senate approval with March 1, 1954 on a simple voice vote of the full Senate without any of the typical confirmation hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee, This approval process was very noncontroversial and without any of the detailed reviews that a Supreme Court appointment would typically face.4 Warren became a very controversial Supreme Court Justice after the Senate did little to review how he might act as a Supreme Court Justice. This may have changed how much review future Supreme Court appointments would get from the Senate. Carl Warren was an average student in college with no experience as a judge before he became a very active leader of the Supreme Court, making many controversial decisions for the times. His leadership and decisions still impact our lives today. He was appointed by President Eisenhower mostly because Eisenhower thought Warren was a middle of the road Republican (like Eisenhower) and because Warren was a Catholic Eisenhower wanted to appeal to the Northeastern USA catholic voters. Also, during the Republican Party presidential nominating convention of 1952, Warren, then the Governor of California and a potential rival to Eisenhower for the office of President of ... • 13. A Brief Note On Shale Gas And Natural Gas Shale gas is a natural gas that can be extracted from the fabric of shale rocks by means of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. There is controversy surrounding this extraction process, as in the process of building facilities in which gases are extracted, people are made aware of the hazards that are involved both with building the site of extraction and with extracting the gas itself. This essay aims to assess the extent to which these hazards can affect those residing in Lancashire. Throughout the course of human history, conventional natural gas deposits have been the easiest to extract from formations below the surface. These conventional deposits cannot last forever and are declining in number, meaning that people are pushed to search for alternative sources whilst increasing the price of the natural gas that is currently available (Berman, 2016). Fortunately, the search for alternative sources for natural gas has generally been positive; recent utilisation of unconventional gas deposits in the US which have led to them becoming the US s primary source of indigenous gas production (Korn, 2010: 5). As humans advance technologically and steadily improve their geological knowledge, the percentage of unconventional gas sources that make up power supplies continue to grow. It is well known that exposure to suicide and bereavement after suicide is a risk factor for adverse outcomes related to health, mental health and social functioning, says Mr Andriessen. We started this research project because most of the research has been focused on the adult population, not on the younger age groups. Hence, little is known about their grief and mental experiences, and their needs for support. The study aims to redress that gap in our knowledge. The project involved semi structured telephone interviews with 39 adolescents bereaved by suicide and/or another cause of death. However in the marketing campaigns the slogan Do The Maths was used as a sales tactic, unfortunately this lead to potential customers being made redundant, this was seen as a cheeky ploy on Atari s part. The design was not ergonomic, the control pad was simply too big and consisted of loads of buttons which rendered the feel of the pad uncomfortable. Furthermore a very small selections of game were made to run on Atari s firmware, the console also didn t have a great software to run in the first place. • 16. Scapegoating In Society Scapegoating in Society In Bill Moyers interview with Margaret Atwood, she states When societies come under stress these kinds of things happen. People start looking around for essentially human sacrifices (?). A scapegoat is a person or a group of people who are punished for the mistakes of others. In the history of our society, scapegoats have been both necessary and important. The reason for this is because it unites people and can be seen as a temporary solution to problems that a society may be facing. Is it easier to get rid of individuals or groups of people than it is to solve the underlying problem? History shows that it is common for scapegoatingto be used especially under stressful situations. Psychologically uncomfortable feelings such as anger, frustration, envy, guilt, and fear are projected onto another person or group. This is the human ego at work. Scapegoating has been a part of our history and although it was more barbaric in the past, as a society we still express the same wants and feelings in different ways. For example, in ancient society, humans and animals were sacrificed after a disaster in hopes that the community would avoid further punishment from the gods. In the bible days, the people sacrificed goats and lambs as a cleansing for their sins. Abraham was asked to sacrificehis only son Isaac, he was to be used as a scapegoat to prove Abraham s love for God. In the end, God provided Abraham with a sacrificial lamb instead. This is one ... This is Edgerton s directorial debut, and it s a masterpiece of direction, specifically. I noticed this immediately. The entire thing feels orchestrated, but never seems fake because the actors are really quite subtle. Plus an orchestrated plot doesn t particularly mean a bad one. The Gift shakes the audience around so much that it s almost worth the slight amount of artificiality. REALLY WORTH IT. He wants you to see what s in the background, and the way it s all staged means that you notice that. These small details in the background then link to other details, and so on, and so forth. It s really satisfying when you realize that something small that you noticed earlier pays off in a big way, and it makes the film seem all the more rich. Richness that the film needs to counterweight the somewhat implausible proceedings, as well as the fact that it s all a little over staged. The details also make the film pretty scary. Tracing the developments in the Feminist Criticism of Shakespeare, I will discuss the various allusions which Shakespeare employed to describe virginity in his plays. I will conclude by presenting the contemporary view of feminist criticism ofShakespeare. Jean E. Howard analyses a brief history of development of Feminist Criticism within Shakespeare Studies. Feminist Criticism of Shakespeare changed the landscape in Shakespeare studies. Feminists analysed the portrayal of women characters in each genre, focusing on the patriarchal norms and gender stereotypes that shaped these representations. However, in the 1970s and early 1980s, the first goal was to change the questions one could ask of Shakespeare s plays and to put issues such as gender and sexuality on the critical agenda. Throughout this essay the concept of tourismwill be discussed using a systems approach as well as using Neil Leiper s basic whole tourism system (Leiper, 2004) theory. The vulnerability of the open tourism system to periodic disruption will also be looked at through the example of The September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on The United States of America. 9/11 as it is referred to today, was an event that shocked the world. Many historians have suggested that the second half of the nineteenth century was culturally, a rather strange period. The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was started in 1848 by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt, as a reaction against what they saw as the stale, formula driven art produced by the Royal ... Raphael represented high renaissance, a time when painters, instead of letting their subjects dictate their qualities to the artist, would manipulate the subject into their own ideal of beauty. Thus, all realism was lost. The PRB, with full spirit, denounced this art of idealization, and led the way to produce works based on real landscapes and real models, and paid intense attention to accuracy of detail and color These painters had a specific agenda. Instead of painting the typical still lifes, landscapes and seascapes, they drew their subject matters from medieval tales, bible stories, classical mythology, and nature. Using bright colors on a white background, the artists were able to achieve great depth and brilliance. No one can deny that the works these young men produced are truly great. However, in their own immature rebelliousness, they unfortunately made hypocrites of themselves. The PRB scorned The Royal Academy for its snobbiness and closed, high society ways, although they themselves were very reluctant and too jealous to allow many others into their society as well. The artists painted with great detail and professed to paint realistically. However, although they didn t idealize, they often omitted distortions. This causes their work to have an almost surreal effect. I ask too, how could they call their work realistic with the very subject matter that they chose? Certainly mythological ... Currently, I m seeing a subtle but oh so ever present transition in real estate investing. It involves a shift in the way folks think about their real estate investment, a movement towards being more dispassionate, a movement away from qualitative and being more focused on the quantitative. Folks historically look at property differently than they do other investments. They look at their rental properties with the same viewpoint that they look at their home, with some pride of possession. You would not look on your technology stock with pride of possession, unless maybe it was Apple stock and you used to be a Macophile. But with real estate, there has a tendency to not only take pride in your properties, but to extend the stock analogy a buy and hold mind set. What I am both seeing and recommending is a shift away from that. For one thing, if you go into RE investing with that disposition, it will break your heart. Did you turn green in jealousy when you turned the television on or rummaged through the magazines glossy pages as you stared at the flawless and picture perfect models? Symptoms And Symptoms Of Parkinson s Disease Essay Parkinson Disease by Melissa Green Topical Bibliography In partial fulfillment of the writing requirement for Anatomy and Physiology 304 and the Department of Speech Language Pathology SUNY Buffalo State Fall 2016 Parkinson s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms or tremors, rigidity, (bradykinesia) or slowness of movement and posture instability. Parkinson s involves the malfunction and death of vital nerve cells in the brain. This disease primarily affects neurons in area of the brain called substantia nigra. Some of these dying neurons produce dopamine a chemical that sends messages to the part of the brain that controls movement and coordination. The symptoms of Parkinson s disease usually begin on one side of the body and within time spread to both sides of the body. The primary process that causes Parkinson s disease signs and symptoms is when dopamine producing nerve cells in the brain die prematurely. Dopamine is one of the main neurotransmitters in the brain. In a healthy brain, ample dopamine is produced so that the brain cells can coordinate smooth and precise muscle movements. However, when dopamine cells are lost, brain cells communicate abnormally with muscles, which can lead to impaired body movement. (Null, 2013, pp. 153 176) When Parkinson s disease progresses there is a gradual loss of many functions that depend on muscle control such as the ability to write legibly, or speak ... They only see from one perspective and fail to see the other side. The paragraphs below illustrate when and how Ponyboy changes his perspective, understands the other side, and gradually breaks the barrierbetween the Socs and greasers. Ponyboy started to learn that not all Socs were arrogant and violent when Dally took the gang of greasers to the movie. Coincidentally, this was the day after Johnny got jumped by a group of Socs. They saw 2 girls named Marcia and Cherry who were Socs. Dally asked Cherry and Marcia if they wanted cokes. Marcia took the Coca Cola, although Cherry didn t. Afterwards, Cherry asked if Ponyboy wanted to go get some popcorn and they started talking and chatting. While the were chatting Ponyboy told Cherry what had happened to Johnny. Through that conversation Cherry was able to convince Ponyboy that not all Socs were violent and arrogant. From my perspective I think that Greasers and Socs weren t really all that different. For example, the first time a person tastes a delicious juicy piece of prime rib or a delightful hamburger with cheese and ham, his world is never the same. However, since the beginning of the twentieth century, the production of food has been supplemented by science. This has triggered an angry dispute between the people who support the advances of biotechnology and people who love nature. The key is in the production. The growth of GM crops is faster than the conventional seeds. For that reason, farmers can produce more and more. These seeds are resistant to cold and hot weather and have more chances to resist dryness than the others. Also, these crops are herbicide resistant; that means that farmers can spray with herbicide and defeat the weeds without altering the crop. For that reason, a lot of money is saved by the reduced use of pesticides, and the cost of production is benefited. Almost 8.25 millions farmers all over the world planted genetically modified seeds in 2004, compared to 7 million in 2003, said the international Service for the Acquisition of Agri biotech Applications (ISAAA)( Biotech 1). In addition to the strong production, as John B. Alfred, a professor in the department of food science and technology at Ohio State University, said, These foods are as safe and nutritious as their conventional counterparts (Alfred 1). • 57. My Experience In Singapore A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. These words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly describe how my travel experience in Singapore this past summer has changed my life. Traveling to Singapore has been an item on my bucket list that I never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my travel, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while visiting the major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with the Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the beauty of the country. Because of this, my travel to Singapore has given me a new perspective on countries and has broadened my horizons in terms of travelling to a new place. On July 31st, 2017, my trip to Singapore commenced with a four hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at seven o clock in the morning. Despite having woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on sleep, I was euphoric that I was finally given an opportunity to visit such a multi cultured country. As the airplane began to ascend, I leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have flown a couple of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive. However, my nausea soon subsided when the airplane levelled out and the flight attendants strolled along the aisles to distribute snacks. Shortly after, I peeked out the window and admired the thin wisps of clouds in the dawn sky until I succumbed to my much needed slumber. I woke up from my nap when I felt a light tap on my shoulder by my brother, Alex. He told me that it was time for the plane to begin its descent so I gathered my belongings and adjusted my seat until it was upright. As the airplane began to descend, I was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. I could feel so much energy rush through my veins as my ears popped and I finally heard the flight attendant say, Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Singapore Changi Airport! As soon as I stepped off of the airplane, I was met with many fluorescent lights lining the lofty ceilings and glass windows showcasing the modernistic architecture Singapore was ...
