Language And Second Language Acquisition
Language acquisition is the way in which humans perceive and understand a certain language, as
well as producing and using words and sentences in order to communicate with one another. The
way in which people learn another language is known as Second Language Acquisition, this refers
to someone learning a language other than their mother tongue. A very important aspect within this
process is cross linguistic influence. Cross linguistic influence is a term used to describe the various
ways that certain language systems in the brain interact with and influence one and other. It
explains how they can affect either the linguistic performance or the linguistic development of the
learner, if not both. This most commonly refers to two separate languages, for example the effect
that French has on a native speaker trying to learn another language such as Italian.... Show more

Cross linguistic influence can however be noticed throughout one language by distinguishing
between different varieties and dialects of the language. Due to misunderstandings between
languages, a negative factor of cross linguistic influence can be noticed. Vildomec stated in 1963
that if two languages a subject has mastered are similar they may co operate in interfering with
other tongues. (Vildomec 1963) For example, in the English translation of the Allied Note
answering Germany s first offer of peace in the year 1917, the French word prГ©tendu meaning
alleged was understood as meaning pretended. There are 200 countries in the world we live in
today along with over 6000 languages. Due to various conditions such as social, economical,
political or historical factors, people all over the world are acquiring a language every day which is
not their native tongue. Cross linguistic influence, thus, plays a very important role in connecting

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Density Forecasts
The density forecast of a random variable is an estimation based on the past observed data. This is
a symmetric interval prediction which means that the outcomes will fall into an interval that is a
band of plus/minus a fixed times of standard errors. The estimation provides a probability
distribution of all possible future values of that variable. Over the past decades, the price density
forecast has been widely used to study microeconomic and financial issues. Forecasting the future
development of the economy is of great importance for proper government monetary decisions and
individual risk management. A good macroeconomic density forecast presents a subjective
description of inflationary pressure and other information related to economics.... Show more

Although the methods they first used have many drawbacks, these analyses still help governments
in understanding the macroeconomic environment and making adjustments to current monetary

Essay Cover Letter For Store Manager

Re: Store Manager Operations position | SW Raleigh, NC (New Store) | Raleigh, NC, 27523
INTRODUCTION
I am proud to present my resume for the position of Store Manager Operations. I m excited by the
prospect of returning to retail, managing store level operations, providing outstanding customer
service, driving sales, and being responsible for the learning, growth, and development of the next
generation of retail leaders!
I have the skills and qualifications to accomplish everything you re looking for in a retail manager,
and I can contribute much more. I ve been in retail my entire adult life (except the last 15 months),
and I have a tremendous record of success ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your associates delivered beyond expectations, and she ended up returning the product to your
competitor and purchasing from you because of it. So I visited your store while I was in town
(Cumming, GA). I m impressed with the store layout, the service, and the quality of retailing, in
general. And being an outdoor/sports enthusiast, the positive experience resonated with me. I did
more research after returning to the Raleigh area, and I m excited to learn that you re opening a
store nearby.
ABOUT MY RESUME
I have enormous respect for tradition, but occasionally it creates barriers to success. For example,
recapping 20+ years of responsibilities, achievements, purposeful skill development, and complex
contributions in two pages doesn t do justice to recruiters, hiring managers, employers, or people
changing careers. And Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) add more restrictions and nuances to the
process.
The resume I ve submitted attempts to summarize my most relevant experience based on the job
description, but the chances are good that you ll be looking for things that didn t make the cut. Rest
assured, if it s related to retail, leadership, management, general business acumen, operations,
training, communications, sales, or customer service, I probably have in depth experience. But
even if I don t, I ll figure it out quickly, guaranteed.
WHY ME?
My resume just covers the highlights.

Compare the Theatrical Techniques and Staging in Act One...
Compare the theatrical techniques and staging in act one of Oleanna and Street Car Named Desire
The two plays Street car named desire and Oleanna are very different plays in their use of
theatrical devices. Tennesse Williams play Street Car Named Desire gives us a long description
of the New Orleans world its based in. Describing the flats with the name elysan fields relating the
to heaven despite the appearance of the street that seems falling apart at the fabric of the seems ,
the colour of the sky tender blue , even the smell of bananas and coffee making the set described

Oleanna doesn t seem to include stage directions other than the phone ringing and John either
igonoring it or picking it up.
Lighting is also an important theatrical technique used in Street Car Named Desire. It is especially
utillised in Almadova s fim interpretation of the play, as he uses the strong primary coloured
lighting pallette throughout. Stanley and the boys are given strong primary colours, shown by
what they wear and the description of the room often red and blue. This is excluding Mitch who
wears checked or soft colour shirts to highlight his difference to the other men in the play. Whilst
Blanche has to hide from the natural light and cover it with paper laterns, in an attempt to hide
from the cruel reality of life. In Oleanna there is no mention of lighting so again it is up to the
audience or director to imagine how the single room would be lit.
Music and sounds are another theatical technique often used is Street Car Named Desire. The
blues piano is often heard in the background of act one and throughout the play. Linking to the
culture of New Orleans and the political freedom and less disrciminatory nature of the area. There
is also the sound of the train that symbolises Stanley and his power and masculinity . The polka
tune that blanche hears in her head relating to her past and the young boy linking to her happy past,
that ends with the sound of a shot. Much like convesation stops with the phone ringing in

Ibn Taymiyyah s The Song Of Roland
Ibn Taymiyyah a scholar from the medieval age once said, What really counts are good endings not
flawed beginnings. In the poem The Song Of Roland the main character, Roland struggles with his
pride and bitterness towards the man who married his mother. The story starts with Roland sending
his stepfather off to what they thought would be death, this bitterness ultimately sent hundreds of
soldiers to their deaths. The stepfather, Ganelon, betrayed Charlemagne and Rolandand sided with
the enemy swearing to get back at Roland for his bad deed. The Song Of Rolandstarts with a bitter
beginning and a revival of character in the end, like Ibn Taymiyyah said. The book shows the
character of Roland in many different ways, bitter, prideful, and heroic, but none of these save him
or his men.
Firstly, some could argue Roland s bitterness in his character acted as the major flaw and the
possible cause of his death. As an example, My noble knights, said the Emperor Charles, choose
me one man: a baron from my march, to bring my message to King Marsilion. And Roland said:

collection of brave warriors. After everyone passed away Roland was the only one left, despaired

I Love Lucille Ball Essay
Lucille Ball has rightfully earned the nickname the ultimate trickster by her character s depiction
through the popular 50s comedian show, I Love Lucy. For six seasons, it was aired on CBS
consistently receiving the #1 rank show for six years straight. The show and Lucille s character
was one of the most successful products television has broadcasted to the society. America was
experiencing a postwar era in the 1950s, a devastation that occurred to the economy and the society
after World War II ended and the country needed a change. The show addressed the central
ideological concerns of the postwar period within the emerging medium of television situation. The
comedy in I Love Lucyshow climaxed with a performance by perhaps be the most brilliant
physical comedienne on film. Through the dramatized and personified cultural conflicts about
gender, marriage and commodification of the series that accumulated by the postwar America;
Lucille took the hearts of all. The show demonstrated an average family with problems that
millions of Americans could relate too. The reality check for many was displayed in comedy in
order to address the problems and to make the public aware of these problems. Lucille Balland her
husband, both in real life and on the show, Desi Arnazwere married on November 30, 1940

Violent Screen Time On Children
The Impact of Violent Screen Time on Children A ten year old boy stares at a television screen
mashing buttons on a PlayStation controller as the sound of gunshots, bombs, and shouts fill his
bedroom. While his parents say, It s keeping him out of trouble, they don t see the emotional
problems violent video games are causing their son. In 2014, TIME Magazine reported that,
Approximately 90% of children in the U.S. play video games, and more than 90% of those games
involve mature content that often includes violence(Park). Even though many parents and
caregivers don t see the harm in the violence shown in video games, television, and the internet,
the effects of this exposure on children today is undeniable. Because children are being exposed
to the harmful effects of violent screen time, they are more aggressive, more likely to engage in
violent behavior, and desensitized to violence in general. When children play a lot of video
games with adult content or watch television shows that include violent scenes, research has
shown that they are more aggressive toward their classmates, friends, siblings, teachers, and even
their own parents. They think that being mean and vicious, like they see on television and video
games, is how they can act in real life. This aggressive behavior can result in bullying, physical
and verbal. A recent study stated that, 60 percent of middle school boys and 40 percent of middle
school girls who played at least one Mature rated (M rated)

Keeping Your Dog Healthy Essay
Many people believe when they purchase a dog all it needs is food and water and vaccinations
really aren t that important. Almost all pets need vaccinations that are crucial to their wellbeing.
The price of keeping pets healthy are quite high which is one reason why most owners refuse to
get their pets vaccinated, but the cost for vaccinations are nowhere near as expensive as the cost of
treatment it takes to get a sick petwell again
There are five vaccinations dogs need every year, Rabies, DAPP, Lyme, Bordetella, and Lepto.
During Vaccination, modified bacteria, a parasite or virus is administered to your pet by injection or
intra nasally (though the nose). The vaccination triggers an immune response within your pet s

As of right now there are no tests that directly respond to the rabies virus but the fluorescent
antibody test is the most accurate at helping diagnosing this deadly virus. Unfortunately, there is
not cure or treatment for the rabies virus. Once your pet has been infected, if not vaccinated before
hand, the only option other than euthanasia is for the pet to be isolated and observed for 6 months
and hope they survive.
The DAPP (Distemper/Parvo) vaccination protects your dog from contracting the Parvovirus which
usually houses in the intestinal tract. The parvovirus can be transmitted by contact with an
infected dog, or even contact with infected feces, and infected feces can remain active in the
ground for five to seven months. The Parvovirus attacks the intestinal structure of the dogs
organs and can lead to a massive loss of proteins, blood and fluids usually the dog will become
sick, losing its appetite, vomiting, and having bloody diarrhea which will result in the pet
becoming very lethargic. It usually takes three to seven days for symptoms to show after being
infected with the Parvovirus. The Parvovirus can be treated if caught in its early stages having a
survival rate of eighty five percent or greater and if left untreated it has a mortality rate of ninety
percent or

Questions On The Theoretical Lens
Jesus F. Garcia 6/15/2015 Midterm Question 1 Part A Theoretical lens refers to a set of
assumptions made, that are composed of factors such as past experiences, cultural background,
and religion. This concept can be problematic when a society attempts to assume the way things
will be and turn out to be unexpected. Dennis Phillips explains, people often learn to understand
things based on the set of theories and belies with which they were raised. (Seminar 1, June 1) In
child development, theoretical lens of developing countries can ultimately hurt the way a society
views the progress of its future generations. Additionally, outcomes that are outside of the
theoretical lens are often rejected, which can cause distress to those individuals who are not
conforming to these expectations. Different countries have different assumptions about how the
world works and the role that each individual plays in it. These individuals, such as children,
across the globe have different expectations from society based on the region s theoretical lens.
For example the main issues facing young people in India will be the school versus work, the
tradition of early arranged marriages, the caste system, and the rights of women. (Gielen, 2004)
The expectations of Indian culture are completely different from those found in the United States
for young people. The culture difference is key in how new generations will develop in accordance
to societies expectations. A young person in

Why We Should Eat Pork
It seems clear that, there are various different reasons why we consume pork and many people
would feel that all these reasons are enough to justify and explain its consumption. This could be
down to the nutritional value of the meat, the idea that if we didn t eat pigs then they wouldn t
exist in the first place and the philosophical views on the consumption of meat in the first place.
However, my research has also shown that there are many reasons why people feel we should not
eat pork. The next section of my essay will look into the arguments against the consumptions of
pork and the reasons for this view.
Why we should not eat pork

The researchers also found that it s possible to train pigs and teach them different talents, such as
jumping hoops, bowing and playing video games as well as being able to learn routines quickly.
Many other scientists have also shown that pigs are highly intelligent, for example , We have
shown that pigs share a number of cognitive capacities with other highly intelligent species such as
dogs, chimpanzees, elephants, dolphins, and even humans, said neuroscientist Lori Marino of
Emory University . It was also discovered that pigs can understand basic symbolic language and
learn multiple signs for actions as well as placing coloured pig shaped blocks in the correct
coloured holes on a wooden board. They found that the pig can do this using its mouth and on its
own. The Discovery News has also reported that, pigs have complex social networks, with them
often learning from one another and cooperating together.
Lastly, researchers in the Netherlands carried out an experiment to understand the behaviours of
pigs in more depth. The experiment went as follows: pigs were placed in 16 groups of six, two
of the pigs in each of the groups were trained to expect either happiness or distress. This was done
by playing them music and either rewarding them with a treat such as chocolate raisins, or putting
them in a stressful situation, such as keeping them in isolation in a small pen. After that, untrained
pigs were added to a

The Effects of Malpractice in the Healthcare Field in...
The Effects of Malpractice in the Healthcare Field in Today s Society. The real costs of medical
malpractice have little to do with litigation but the lost lives, extra medical expenses, time out of
work, and pain and suffering of tens of thousands of people every year (Baker 1). The effects of
malpractice in the health care field are a major issue in today s society. Working on a more
profitable and safe way to ensure the prevention of malpractice is what should be worked on to

United States medical physicians perform the wrong procedure on a patient at least twenty
times a week. They performed on the wrong body part at least twenty times a week (Walker 1).
Inform consent from the patient is by far a concern that healthcare workers are liable for if they
are to operate or continue any medical examination without the patient permission. If the patient
does not give informed consent to a medical procedure, the doctor or health care provider may be
liable if the procedure result in harm or injury, even if it was carried out flawlessly. Cases on
malpractice go up every year, some are rewarding and some are failures. Several years ago a
patient woke up from surgery and asked her surgeon, Why is he bandage on my left ankle
instead of my right (Levy 1)? The doctor realized e operated on the wrong ankle and
immediately reported the error to the higher authority in the hospital (Levy 1). During the cases
the doctor wasn t punished for his mistake because the people thought he had suffered enough

field are well intentioned and feel distress when they harm patients. Let s reserve punishment for
clear cares of negligence. Other error should be used to reinforce a learning environment in which
we are hard on problems rather than hard on the people (Levy 1). Two former patients of John

BMW s aircraft engine plant was then forced to close, being that their only product at the time

other alternatives which resulted in them obtaining a license with a very successful Berlin
based company called Knorr Bremse AG. This partnership was pursued in effort to begin
manufacturing brake systems as a response to survive the cessation of aircraft engine
production. The contract was over a ten year span and was intended to provide BMW with
employment and profit until 1930 ( History of BMW , 2015). This directional shift resulted in
great advantage for BMW as manufacturing power was allocated to BMW from Knorr Bremse
AG because they could not handle the demand they were receiving for manufacturing in their own
factories. This allowed BMW to be accessible for governmental bodies to pursue contracted
agreements. Bavarian trains were then fit and prepared for Knorr brakes in which the Bavarian
government contracted with BMW permitting them to be the official Knorr brake producers of
Bavaria because BMW was located in the homeland ( History of BMW , 2015). Furthermore, these

The Irony Of The Sinner
While traveling through Hell, Dante the pilgrim encountered numerous sinners on each level, all
prepared to tell their tales of misfortune and transgression. However, though some ask Dante to
remember them or tell their stories on Earth, most of them speak for their own gain, not simply to
educate Dante on the penalties of their sins. Each sinner appears to wallow in the past, isolating
themselves in their sinand occasionally ignoring Dante as a person entirely. Even when these
sinners find themselves physically trapped together with another soul, they remain lonely and
miserable in their suffering: they have deprived themselves of the forgiveness and love God
offered them and now must find something else to love. As they have rejected God, these sinners
still seek to fill that void of emptiness to which they have forever condemned themselves. In Dante
Alighieri s Inferno, the irony of the sinner s contrappaso reflects the irony that, even in the suffering
they have brought upon themselves, they have a misplaced love in their sin in place of the love
God offered them.
In Canto V, Dante encounters the Francesca and Paulo, who have thrown away their chance for
heaven for one another, yet enjoyed the action of sinning itself more then each other s company.
As soon as Dante the pilgrim comes upon the pair, Francesca relates the tale of their sin,
explaining how this one, who never shall be parted from me, while all his body trembled, kissed

sign of possible failure. There did not seem to be any emphasis on customer satisfaction. History

the leader became incapacitated. Arrogance had no role in an expedition of this magnitude.
Experienced climbers with concerns were stifled and kept their opinions to themselves. The
whole idea of recruiting multiple experienced personnel in any organization is to allow them to

Isidore Story
Saint Report
Hi, I m Clayton Stuhrenberg! I am a junior at Palacios High School and am going to talk about
Saint Isidore. I chose this saint because he kinda reminds me of myself. But first, you need to
know his story. This is Isidore s life story.
Isidore was actually born into a family made up of saints that lived during the sixth century in
Spain. Both of his brothers, Leander and Fulgentius and his sister, Florentina, are all recognized as
saints in Spain. It was also a family of pioneers and they had a ton of determination, with his strong
and great brothers serving as bishops. On the other hand, the sister was an abbess.
Because of the high standards set and other reasons, life was not easy for Isidore. On the contrary,

Isidore was able to separate the abusive way he was taught from the joy of learning. He didn t avoid
learning after what his brother did but embraced education and worked out any problems he had.
Isidore moved past his past and became known as, The best teacher is Spain. .
His absolute love of learning leads him to promote the creation of a seminary in every diocese of
Spain. He wanted to make sure that everyone had access to a place where they could learn.
Furthermore, he made sure that all branches of knowledge, even including the arts and medicine,
were taught in these seminaries.
His encyclopedia of knowledge or the Etymologies was a popular textbook for about a period of
nine centuries. He also had written books about grammar, astronomy, and geography, as well as
theology. At the point when the Arabs took the investigation of Aristotle back to Europe, this was
just the same old thing new to Spain on the grounds that Isidore s receptive outlook had as of now

On April 18, 1906, in San Francisco, California there was an earthquake that was a major
geological disaster that affected people in many ways. According to www.History.com, San
Francisco had a population of around 400,000, and 3,000 people. The earthquake destroyed over

earthquake started many fires that burned for days and destroyed around 500 city blocks. The
earthquake could be felt from Los Angeles to southern Oregon, and in central Nevada. This
earthquake was caused by the transform plate boundary from the pacific and North American

Factors That Affect The Child
A child is somebody under the age of 18 who is dependent on their parents. According to the
NSPCC, the UN Convention on the rights states that a child is anybody under the age of 18. All
around the world the age of a child depends on the culture in which the child is born into. In some
societies, they believe that children are socially constructed which relates to the historical, cultural
and social factors. It depends on where the childis born for their construction and what it means to
the child, this then relates to the birth lottery. The birth lottery can cause problems for the child
which could affect their life chances. There are three factors that could affect the child; economical
factors (this concerns a lot of the time money and social status), cultural factors (religion and
ethnicity) and social factors (social class). All three of theses factors can impact the child
massively, again it depends on the birth lottery; where the child is born; what the race of the
child is; whether the child is born into poverty or wealth and also the gender of the child. A lot
of things goes off children s parents so, for example, social mobility, where it goes off the parent s
income and social status, the child just follows their parents. Low income can affect the child s
health, living and education. If children living in poverty it could mean they are dealing with harsh
experiences. In the UK alone there is 3.9 million children living in poverty (Child Poverty

Effectiveness Of Reading Comprehension Strategies
This paper focuses on two major concerns: the effectiveness of reading comprehension strategies
and the effectiveness of professional development. There has been a great amount of study and
writing on both topics. In addition to these subtopics, the topic of reading inventories will also be
explored with regards to the Scholastic ReadingInventory and the use of these tools in evaluating
comprehension in reading.
Reading comprehension strategies. Throughout the history of reading education, there has been
extensive research on phonological awareness and phonics. More recently, educational theorists
have also recognized and researched the need for instructing students in the use of comprehension
strategies in reading (Muspratt, Luke, Freebody, 1997). Block, Gambrell, and Pressley (2002) state
The message is clear the most important thing about reading is comprehension (p. 3)
Reading comprehension is the process of acquiring meaning from written text ( Block, Gambrell,
Pressley, 2002, p. 4) and is an interactive process involving the reader, the text, and the context (p.
5). While there are many ideas on the most effective way to teach comprehension skills, most agree
on a few basic skills that students should know. Keene and Zimmerman (1997) identify 7 key
comprehension strategies: making connections, visualizing, questioning, inferring, synthesis,
problem solving, and deciding what is important. Making connections involves the use of the reader

Persuasive Essay On Anti Smoking
Did you know that 20% of adult s smoke cigarettes in the United States and every year more than
480,000 people die from tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, making it the leading
cause of preventable death in this country? (CDC, 2017) How many of those people do you think
have children? Second hand smoke is just as dangerous as lighting up according to the Center for
Disease Control and Prevention. It causes numerous health problems in infants and children,
including more frequent and severe asthma attacks, respiratory infections, ear infections, and
sudden infant death syndrome. (CDC, 2017) Anti smokingadvertisements began in 1998 as part of
a 206 billion dollar settlement. Major tobaccocompanies, including Philip Morris USA, R. J.
Reynolds, Brown Williamson, and Lorillard, were to pay for anti smoking ads due to a lawsuit
from 46 states. The states filed a lawsuit against the major tobacco companies for Medicaid and
costs incurred while treating the sick and dying cigarettesmokers. (Public Health Law Center,
2015) In 2012, the federal government took on an effort to attack the nation s tobacco addiction
with a series of advertisements highlighting the grisly toll of smoking. (Harris, 2017) You have
probably noticed one of these ads. In one TV ad, a woman who has a hole in her neck and barely
any hair on her head after suffering head and neck cancer. (Harris, 2017)
Even today, there are many powerful advertisements focused towards a shrinking market of
smokers. They often depict the harmful effects of tobacco through graphic pictures or other
startling images. The advertisement I chose depicts a black background with a clear baby bottle
full of cigarette butts. There is smoke coming from the nipple of the baby bottle with the words,
How many cigarettes a day does your child smoke? in all white bold letters. Under the baby bottle
are the words, Prevent passive smoking in a smaller font. Through this, the image is able to
convey a sense of danger and promote awareness of the hazards of smoking around children.
In advertising, the importance of tone is used to impact a specific group of people. Setting the right
tone can convey your message to the intended audience. In the advertisement I

Machiavelli s Prince
Humanism is a term that is applied to beliefs, methods and philosophies that place human beings at
the center all life and the universe. Humanists observe that the goal of human life is happiness on
earth. Besides happiness, humanism is also grounded in naturalistic metaphysics (Lamont 13). It
considers all supernatural things and beliefs to be mythical, hence warranting dismissal. It is also
conceived of the idea that humanbeings are products of nature rather than supernatural creation. The
earthly experience is more important than any forms of predestination or determinism. According to
humanist, human beings have choice of action and have the capacity to shape their destiny. The
process of self definition also leads to critical inquiry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Prince Machiavelli maps a political ideology that values citizen active participation in public
life as opposed to the idea of waiting for divine repudiation and salvation. The essence of virtue is
central to humanist thought and action. Machiavelli like all other humanists saw virtue in those
with power to rule. A virtuous ruling class had the capacity for more efficient and accountable
governance. He goes on to argue that an elite ruling class was not sufficient enough for political
stability. A stable political system needs power. He observed that a political system that had poor
organization led to its subjects bad behavior which in the end resulted in it getting attacked by
outside enemies. Machiavelli s project was to separate the political from the moral and he thought
this did not necessarily benefit the ruler but the general populace. His civic humanism is found in
his assertion that a prince should not resort to mistreating his subjects. When he is feared enough,
the state is strong and every citizen does their civic duty. In the process no one is hurt and the

Every morning, my parents drink at least one diet pepsi. But now, diet soda brands, especially
Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi sales have declined. Diet Coke sales have fallen 3.4 percent and Diet
Pepsi sales have fallen 5.7 percent over the past year (Estrel). One of the factors is that people are

In The Film Farewell My ConcubineAndThe King And The Clown
Drawing on the two films Farewell my Concubine and The King and the Clown will further
explore how homosexuality is represented among China and South Korea. The film, Farewell my
Concubine was one of the first and most significant discussions towards homosexuality being
depicted on screen. It was released in the year 1993, covering the period of the Chinese social
upheavals between the 1920s through to the 1970s in the setting of the Beijing Opera. The film
raises the attitude of homosexualityin the most painful period of the traditional Chinese history, for
the Chinese and Western viewers (Lau 1995, 22). According to Lau, this film was an opportunity to
stimulate the inherent of the Beijing Opera in relation to the homosexual practices that were

understand the homophobic anxiety of the historical and political brutality in Chinese history
(Zhang 1999, 101). The film attempts to illustrate that the Chinese cultural connections and
homosexuality cannot coexist. The main protagonist, Cheng Dieyi, sense of identity is heavily
reinforced by the power structure within the environment through harsh symbolic rapes. Lau

Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Many companies today use information as a basis to increase productivity, producing quality
products, providing quality services, creating customer confidence, and making timely decisions.
As such, information technology has become the prime reason for the success and failure of a
company to compete in business. This illustrates the impact of information technology on business
operations today. As a result, designing an information system of high quality is important so that
organisations can compete successfully in the global market.
Information systems experts need to understand the business operation of a company before they
can design a comprehensive system. Every business is likely to be different. ... Show more content

The purpose of the design phase is to determine the specified problem and plan a solution for the
specified problem. We used the data flow diagram to show the flow of data within the existing
system and the proposed system. Once the design is complete, most of the major decisions about
the proposed system have been made.
Chapter 4.0
THE EXISTING SYSTEM
An information system commonly refers to a basic computer system but may also describe a
telephone switching or environmental controlling system. The IS involves resources for shared or
processed information, as well as the people who manage the system. People are considered part of
the system because without them, systems would not operate correctly.
There are many types of information systems, depending on the need they are designed to fill. An
operations support system, such as a transaction processing system, converts business data
(financial transactions) into valuable information. Similarly, a management information system
uses database information to output reports, helping users and businesses make decisions based on
extracted data.
In a decision support system, data is pulled from various sources and then reviewed by managers,
who make determinations based on the compiled data. An executive information system is useful for

The Pros And Cons Of Drunk Driving
Cops rush to the scene of a tragic accident, where two cars are crumpled on the road. One
minivan, carrying a group of teenagers going home, laid upside down in a ditch. The other
vehicle, a truck driven by a drunk man, sat with a flattened front end in the middle of the
highway. The drunk driver came out of the wreck virtually unscathed compared to the teenagers.
Two teenagers were horribly injured, while the third teen was killed. This is an example of what
can happen when a driver gets behind the wheel while intoxicated. Innocent lives could be lost and
many people can be injured by irresponsible drivers. According to the article Drunk Driving, more
than ten thousand fatalities are caused by impaired driving every year. Also, 1.4 million drivers
were arrested for driving under the influenceof alcohol and drugs ( Drunk Driving ). Even though
many efforts, such as increase in police patrol and slightly higher fines, drunk driving is still a
major problem in the United States. Many people have proposed solutions to the drinking and
driving problem. These solutions include, educating people to know the risks of drunk driving,
and other people think that there should less laws on drunk driving, or legalize it all together. A
great solution that could deter people from drinking and driving, is to make fines higher than they
already are and have longer jail sentences for each DUI a person commits. This solution would
keep people from driving under the influence(DUI) because

The Themed Land Concept Of Parks
The Themed Lands Concept
All Disney theme parks are designed based on themed lands. In each land, the theme is reflected in
the surrounding infrastructure, the appearance of employees, the character of food and other
franchises, and the entertainment (Curwen, 1995, p.15). The original Disneyland in California was
designed with a land that acts as a throughway to guide guests to the castle, Main Street, USA.
From the castle, the other themed lands jut out like spokes of a wheel with the castle being the
main focal point of the theme park. The Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland
Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland all follow the same original layout of the park in California.
Most of the theme parks across the world include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Main Street, USA represents a time of a wholesome America to many guests and while walking
down Main Street, USA, they feel a sense nostalgia. For this reason, the moment guests step into a
Disney theme park, America thus becomes the dominant narrative of the park, with the majority of
its lands devoted to telling the stories of American history (Philips, 2002, p.34). Although this land
does not host any attractions, it does have shops and eateries for guests to stop by on their way to
and from the castle and the rest of the theme park.
Although Tokyo Disneyland claims to be a replica of Disneyland in California, there are a lot of
differences between the two theme parks. When building the theme park, the Oriental Land
Company modified a few themed lands and attractions so that themes nostalgic for Americans but
meaningless for the Japanese have been renamed and recontextualized to capture the attention of
the new clientele (Brannen, 1992, p. 221). Main Street, USA is renamed to the World Bazaar at
Tokyo Disneyland and keeps the quasi Victorian architecture of the buildings , but hints of Art
Deco façade are added to the buildings in Tokyo (Brannen, 1992, p.222; Marling, 1997). The
renaming of the land does not change the theming of the land being inherently American. The idea
of Main Street is a concept used by American towns to describe their main thoroughfare. There are

In America today the rise of violence that is being committed by children is growing daily. The
pressure that is placed upon a parent to raise children in a certain demeanor has fallen to the waste
side, and every man, woman, and child is for themselves. Outside influences play a major role in
the upbringing and rearing of children no matter what age and time they were brought up in.
Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them or by a power

The Problem Of Aggression And Violence
Aggression and violence are common in every day life, so common everyone is exposed to it.
Krahe defines aggression as behavior that has intention to inflict negative consequences on a target
with an expectancy the action will have a particular outcome (2001).There are an innumerable
amount of studies to explain why aggressionand violenceoccur, which are ranged from social and
biosocial explanations as seen by the frustration and aggression theory (Dollard, 1939), the
excitement transfer theory (Zillman, 1979), and the social learning theory (Bandura, 1961). Also
ranged from biological theories, such as, psychodynamic (Freud, 1920), evolutionary (Buss,
1990), and ethological (Lorenz, 1966). Aggression has many forms, from social, verbal and
physical aggression and other serious kinds of violence (Karriker Jaffe, Foshee, Ennett,
Suchindran, 2008). Based on theories and studies; I will propose my FIVEstop approach, which
are 5 solutions that may help reduce aggressive in society, and why the solutions may work. First, I
recommend starting with children and parents. Since children are our future adults who will grow
to learn different behaviors and actions, I believe it is crucial to reduce aggression in children first
starting from birth. Many studies have shown that spanking children causes aggression. Maccoby
(1992) found that children who have experienced physical discipline from their parents are more
aggressive than those who have not. However, to understand

Harriet Beecher Stowe And His Family Essay
During the 1800s slavery was common. Although, many people thought it was wrong and sinful,
some actually did not mind the practice. Harriet Beecher Stowe and her family were one of many
who were activists in the anti slavery movement. She was born in Litchfield, Connecticut on June
14, 1811. Her father, Lyman Beecher, was a Calvinist preacher, and her mother, Roxana Foote, died
when she was four. When Stowe was 25 years old, she married Calvin Ellis Stowe, who was also
against slaveryand a well known minister. Stowe s sister, Isabella Beecher Hooker, was an
advocate for women s rights. Another of her sisters, Catherine, founded a school to offer
education for young women. Uncle Tom s Cabin is about the life of Tom, an african slave, who

where he would begin his life like he has never done. Slavery has always been a sorrowful topic, so

hand, was very negative and did not trust any slave. Shelby spoke about this one particular slave

The book which we see at the start dissolves from one shot to another; in this case it dissolves
from the book to Pip running to the churchyard. The narrative (voice over) gives a wide
perspective. When Pip is running to the churchyard there is a long shot used, this long shot makes
Pip look small and vulnerable. The first things we see in the long shot are the gibbets where the
convicts are hanged; this tells us that Pip is in a dangerous and isolated place.
Then the camera shot is in the graveyard, where the creepy sound effects such as the trees
creaking and the wind whistling come into play. The scenery is very spine chilling in the
graveyard. The wind gets louder as Pip gets more tense and the tree creeks just before the
convict arrives so the entrance is made more dramatic. We see a tree from Pips eyes this makes

Aquinas Cosmological Argument Analysis
In the Cosmological argument, we are presented with a very sound argument. In this argument,
Aquinas is answering the question of why there has to be a first cause and why the first cause is
God. He tells us that everything that exist in this universe needs an explanation for why it exist.
Secondly, Aquinas tells us that all the objects that exist now were caused to exist by other objects
before them and this cycle goes on. Thirdly, he tells us the universe couldn t possibly be something
that goes on infinitely. Aquinas thinks there has to be something that caused this a first cause.
Lastly, Aquinas tells us the only possible thing that caused all of this is God. In this paper, I will be
defending Aquinas Cosmological Argument. Aquinas first premise is everything, every person,
plant, or object, that exist in this universe needs an explanation for why it exist. I believe there is
a logical reason for why everything exist and everything that happens has an explanation. For
example, we need water to survive. If we don t have water, we will eventually die of dehydration.

to perpetrators of the crime and their motives even though they are fictional. In a similar manner,
the motive and overall story also exemplify components of philosophy. More specifically, the two
detective fictiongenres of Locked Room stories and Hoist on their Own Petards stories portray
crime and perpetrators in relation to philosophy. For example, the detective fiction story, The
Leopold Locked Room, written by Edward D. Hoch, exemplifies Hegel s master versus slave
theory and components of Hegel s recognition of self while also demonstrating social bonds theory
and choicelearning theory. Peter Lovesey s detective fiction story, The Secret Lover, also consists
of both philosophy and criminology as it demonstrates Hegel s master versus slave theory,
metaphysics, object petite x, social bonds theory, and qualities of an organized killer.
The Leopold Locked Room Hoch s story, The Leopold Locked Room, is part of the locked room
genre and demonstrates many different aspects of both criminology and philosophy. The basis of
this story concerns Captain Leopold who is framed by his ex wife, Monica, for her own murder.
Monica develops an elaborate scheme during her fifteen years apart from Leopold and puts her
plan into action with the help of a fake doctor named Dr. Felix

disturbed couples; a straight couple and a gay one. This narrative entails Harper who is the Joe
s wife. The gay couple comprises of Prior and Louis while the straight one comprises of Joe and
Prior. The play Angels in America is a narrative that focuses on two disturbed couples; a straight
couple and a gay one. Harper is the wife of Joe and her objective is to determine whether the
insinuations gotten from Prior in their mutual fantastical are dreams. In other words, she wants to
clear her suspicion and determine whether her husband is a closeted homosexual just like Prior and
Louis. Thus her super objective is to determine whether Joe might be having an affair with his
friend Louis since they have been having an unlikely friendship after Joe stumbled into Louis

Harper introduces a beat at the climax when she asks his husband whether he is a homosexual
and ends it when she threatens to fill the house with smoke. (Tony 37). The minor objective is
coaxing Joe and pushing him to show the truth about his sexuality. In addition, Prior introduces a
beat when he tells Louis about his disease symptoms like new lesions then it ends when he says
he shat blood (Tony 39). The minor objective is to show to Louis his state of health and what he
has been enduring in his illness state. The scene has a beat when Harper yells to Joe to SHUT
UP! (Tony 36) The dialogue reaches climax at this utterance. The beat begins when Joe starts to
prove why he has been late for dinner and ends when Harper tells him to stick to the project. The
minor objective is to divert the conversation, from Joe s explanation and lead him to the big
question that Harper wants to ask

Driving Testing Persuasive Essay
I hope you are doing well. I am Amy Ratigan, a sophomore at Merion Mercy Academy, located
outside of Philadelphia, and I am writing to you in hopes that you will consider my plan. I am
proposing that when drivers turn seventy years old, they should be required to retake the
driving exam. Mercury News states: According to the Institute of Highway Safety, drivers 85
years and older have the highest rate of fatal accidents per miles driven of any age group. However,
if there were a law passed which required drivers to retake it age seventy, there would be a
decrease in fatal accidents and an increase in safer drivers. I can say from experience that family
members at home worry about their loved ones who refuse to abandon their right for freedom.
With this new law, family members will be worry free, roads will be safer, and the drivers
themselves will benefit with a refresher course. Families nationwide agonize... Show more content

Having those over the age of seventy retake the driving test would allow for safer roads and less
accidents. The last major effort to have a bill passed to retake the driving test was in 1999 when a
Santa Monica teen was killed by a 96 year old driver who last took the driving test eighty one
years ago. Although this bill failed, I would only hope that if the driver had retaken the test, that
Santa Monica teenager may still be alive today. There would be safer drivers on the roadif everyone
was aware of the updated laws when they reached seventy. This would eventually lead to a
decrease in fatal accidents due to the fact that drivers would be more experienced and capable.
Once they turned seventy, most would have taken their last driving test over 50 years ago,
obviously way too long. This renewed driving exam would allow for safer roads and a better
overall driving atmosphere. However, disagreements will arise with this new

  • 2. Language And Second Language Acquisition Language acquisition is the way in which humans perceive and understand a certain language, as well as producing and using words and sentences in order to communicate with one another. The way in which people learn another language is known as Second Language Acquisition, this refers to someone learning a language other than their mother tongue. A very important aspect within this process is cross linguistic influence. Cross linguistic influence is a term used to describe the various ways that certain language systems in the brain interact with and influence one and other. It explains how they can affect either the linguistic performance or the linguistic development of the learner, if not both. This most commonly refers to two separate languages, for example the effect that French has on a native speaker trying to learn another language such as Italian.... Due to misunderstandings between languages, a negative factor of cross linguistic influence can be noticed. Vildomec stated in 1963 that if two languages a subject has mastered are similar they may co operate in interfering with other tongues. (Vildomec 1963) For example, in the English translation of the Allied Note answering Germany s first offer of peace in the year 1917, the French word prГ©tendu meaning alleged was understood as meaning pretended. There are 200 countries in the world we live in today along with over 6000 languages. Due to various conditions such as social, economical, political or historical factors, people all over the world are acquiring a language every day which is not their native tongue. Cross linguistic influence, thus, plays a very important role in connecting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a symmetric interval prediction which means that the outcomes will fall into an interval that is a band of plus/minus a fixed times of standard errors. The estimation provides a probability distribution of all possible future values of that variable. Over the past decades, the price density forecast has been widely used to study microeconomic and financial issues. Forecasting the future development of the economy is of great importance for proper government monetary decisions and individual risk management. A good macroeconomic density forecast presents a subjective description of inflationary pressure and other information related to economics.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) add more restrictions and nuances to the process. The resume I ve submitted attempts to summarize my most relevant experience based on the job description, but the chances are good that you ll be looking for things that didn t make the cut. Rest assured, if it s related to retail, leadership, management, general business acumen, operations, training, communications, sales, or customer service, I probably have in depth experience. But even if I don t, I ll figure it out quickly, guaranteed. WHY ME? My resume just covers the highlights. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stanley and the boys are given strong primary colours, shown by what they wear and the description of the room often red and blue. Garcia 6/15/2015 Midterm Question 1 Part A Theoretical lens refers to a set of assumptions made, that are composed of factors such as past experiences, cultural background, and religion. This concept can be problematic when a society attempts to assume the way things will be and turn out to be unexpected. Dennis Phillips explains, people often learn to understand things based on the set of theories and belies with which they were raised. (Seminar 1, June 1) In child development, theoretical lens of developing countries can ultimately hurt the way a society views the progress of its future generations. Additionally, outcomes that are outside of the theoretical lens are often rejected, which can cause distress to those individuals who are not conforming to these expectations. Different countries have different assumptions about how the world works and the role that each individual plays in it. These individuals, such as children, across the globe have different expectations from society based on the region s theoretical lens. For example the main issues facing young people in India will be the school versus work, the tradition of early arranged marriages, the caste system, and the rights of women. (Gielen, 2004) The expectations of Indian culture are completely different from those found in the United States for young people. However, though some ask Dante to remember them or tell their stories on Earth, most of them speak for their own gain, not simply to educate Dante on the penalties of their sins. Each sinner appears to wallow in the past, isolating themselves in their sinand occasionally ignoring Dante as a person entirely. Even when these sinners find themselves physically trapped together with another soul, they remain lonely and miserable in their suffering: they have deprived themselves of the forgiveness and love God offered them and now must find something else to love. As they have rejected God, these sinners still seek to fill that void of emptiness to which they have forever condemned themselves. In Dante Alighieri s Inferno, the irony of the sinner s contrappaso reflects the irony that, even in the suffering they have brought upon themselves, they have a misplaced love in their sin in place of the love God offered them. In Canto V, Dante encounters the Francesca and Paulo, who have thrown away their chance for heaven for one another, yet enjoyed the action of sinning itself more then each other s company. According to the NSPCC, the UN Convention on the rights states that a child is anybody under the age of 18. All around the world the age of a child depends on the culture in which the child is born into. In some societies, they believe that children are socially constructed which relates to the historical, cultural and social factors. It depends on where the childis born for their construction and what it means to the child, this then relates to the birth lottery. The birth lottery can cause problems for the child which could affect their life chances. There are three factors that could affect the child; economical factors (this concerns a lot of the time money and social status), cultural factors (religion and ethnicity) and social factors (social class). All three of theses factors can impact the child massively, again it depends on the birth lottery; where the child is born; what the race of the child is; whether the child is born into poverty or wealth and also the gender of the child. A lot of things goes off children s parents so, for example, social mobility, where it goes off the parent s income and social status, the child just follows their parents. Humanists observe that the goal of human life is happiness on earth. Besides happiness, humanism is also grounded in naturalistic metaphysics (Lamont 13). It considers all supernatural things and beliefs to be mythical, hence warranting dismissal. It is also conceived of the idea that humanbeings are products of nature rather than supernatural creation. The earthly experience is more important than any forms of predestination or determinism. In Prince Machiavelli maps a political ideology that values citizen active participation in public life as opposed to the idea of waiting for divine repudiation and salvation. The essence of virtue is central to humanist thought and action. Machiavelli like all other humanists saw virtue in those with power to rule. A virtuous ruling class had the capacity for more efficient and accountable governance. He goes on to argue that an elite ruling class was not sufficient enough for political stability. A stable political system needs power. He observed that a political system that had poor organization led to its subjects bad behavior which in the end resulted in it getting attacked by outside enemies. Machiavelli s project was to separate the political from the moral and he thought this did not necessarily benefit the ruler but the general populace. His civic humanism is found in his assertion that a prince should not resort to mistreating his subjects. When he is feared enough, the state is strong and every citizen does their civic duty. The original Disneyland in California was designed with a land that acts as a throughway to guide guests to the castle, Main Street, USA. For this reason, the moment guests step into a Disney theme park, America thus becomes the dominant narrative of the park, with the majority of its lands devoted to telling the stories of American history (Philips, 2002, p.34). Although this land does not host any attractions, it does have shops and eateries for guests to stop by on their way to and from the castle and the rest of the theme park. Although Tokyo Disneyland claims to be a replica of Disneyland in California, there are a lot of differences between the two theme parks. Proverbs 22:6 New King James Version (NKJV) In America today the rise of violence that is being committed by children is growing daily. First, I recommend starting with children and parents. Since children are our future adults who will grow to learn different behaviors and actions, I believe it is crucial to reduce aggression in children first starting from birth.
