Welcome, dear readers, to the second issue of the Spenderrific Magazine, where we celebrate and encourage women's empowerment and inclusivity.
Despite the strides made in promoting the empowerment of women in recent years, the inclusivity of women is still lacking in many areas, from workplaces and homesteads to healthcare and policies.
Last year, I read one of the most impactful books in my library, Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Pérez, followed by a binging session of her podcast, Visible Womenby Caroline Criado Pérez, and it absolutely blew my mind just how lacking the inclusivity of women is in all aspects of life.
Women across the world are fully aware of women-centric problems, from watching your every move and behaviour in public and private spaces to our health concerns being brushed off even by healthcare providers.

The issues run deeper beyond these daily
annoyances, like dealing with products built with
small-sized male targets as representation for
women. As you scroll through this magazine, how
well does your phone fit on your hand compared
to a man? Or the fact that women are more likely
to sustain severe injuries or lose their lives during
a car crash than men because most vehicle
manufacturers are yet to use female dummies for
safety testing.
The lack of women's inclusivity has contributed
greatly to these unfortunate occurrences, a
testament to the need for the inclusivity of women
in all facets.
As a woman, this is a cause very dear to my heart.
Women's inclusivity is not just a buzzword; it is
the foundation for a fairer, more equitable society.

Solo Female Travel
Embracing Solo Adventures as a Woman
Traveling solo as a woman—there's something
simultaneously thrilling and terrifying about the
prospect.Theinitialfear,thequestioningglances,
and the societal norms that have conditioned
women to believe that adventures are best
undertaken in groups are the barriers we aim to
dismantle.
Yes, acknowledging the fear is necessary. It is
okay to feel apprehensive about venturing into
the unknown alone. Yet, it is precisely this fear
that transforms into liberation once you step out
of your comfort zone.
By stepping out on your own, you are not merely
moving geographically; you are redefining
boundaries and challenging stereotypes. Each
trip you take is a chapter of fearless exploration,
whereeverydecision—fromthestreetyouwander
down to the strangers you might befriend—is
yours to make. Let’s take a closer look at the key
benefits of adventures as a woman.
Building Confidence
Solo travel throws you headfirst into unfamiliar
territory, forcing you to navigate new situations
and problem-solve independently. Imagine
reading a complex train schedule in a foreign
language, bargaining with street vendors in a
bustling marketplace, or confidently asking for
directions in a remote village.
Each successful encounter builds self-reliance
and a sense of "I can do this" that overextends
the travel experience.
Self-Discovery
Traveling solo allows women to shed societal
expectations and truly connect with themselves.
Unburdenedbythedynamicsofgrouptravel,solo

interests and passions without compromise.
Picture yourself spending extra time at a pottery
workshop in Marrakech, indulging in a silent
meditation retreat in Bhutan, or taking on a
challenging solo hike through Patagonia—
experiences that might be less appealing or
feasible when traveling with others.
This immersion in personal interests fosters self-
awareness and a deeper understanding of one's
values and desires.
Unbridled Freedom
Solotravelgrantswomenunparalleledautonomy

freedom to explore hidden gems off the beaten
path, delve deeper into specific interests, or
simply indulge in the luxury of spontaneous
exploration.
This ability to create a schedule that revolves
solely around your desires fosters a sense of
liberation and empowers women to define their
own travel narrative.
Building Connections
Contrary to popular belief, solo travel can be a
breeding ground for unexpected friendships.
Unbound by a pre-existing group, solo female
travelers are naturally more open to connecting
with others.
Shared experiences, like navigating a busy
marketplace or exploring a historical landmark,
can spark conversations and forge genuine
connections.
8. 7 SPENDERRIFIC / Know When and Where to Spend
Additionally,hostels,guesthouses,andorganized
tours specifically designed for solo travelers
often foster a sense of community, providing
opportunities to meet like-minded women from
around the world. These newfound connections
can not only enrich the travel experience but also
create a global network of support and lasting
friendships.
But the benefits of solo female travelers aren’t
confined to women only. Companies, specifically
those in the travel industry, stand to gain greatly.
The travel industry holds immense potential as a
catalyst for economic empowerment, and solo
female travel is no exception.
Encouraging women to explore the world solo
translates into increased demand for various
travel-related services, from accommodations to
transportation and cultural experiences.
Despite these advantages, solo female travelers

inclusivity. Companies can play a pivotal role in

address the specific concerns and preferences of
female travelers.
Safe Accommodations and Transportation
Key among these is safety. While solo female

measures to stay safe, companies in the industry
must take the initiative to ensure the safety of
women travelers.
Accommodation options like single rooms with
secure locking mechanisms and well-lit common
areas are crucial. This should also go beyond
investing in high-end surveillance equipment.

rooms and ensuring the security of the room or
simply pointing at their room number rather than
saying it out loud for all and sundry to hear can go
a long way in making female travelers safe.
Additionally, destinations with clear signage,
readily available public transportation, and well-
trained tourism staff who understand female

Tailoring Experiences to Female
Preferences
Travel companies can offer tours and activities
specifically designed for women travelers. This
is not a new phenomenon, with numerous tour
operators already offering travel packages for
group and solo female travelers only.
Besidesthese,companiescanimplementwellness
offerings, female-friendly group activities, and

enhance the appeal of travel for women.
Additionally, homestays with local female hosts
can also offer cultural immersion. These strategies
foster a sense of security, community, and shared
experiences.

F*** You Fund:
A Woman's Blueprint for
Financial Resilience
It is the year of our Good Lord 2024, and women
arestillfightingforequality,beitintheworkplace,
at home, and in society.
The fact that women have been seen and treated
as lesser beings is no secret. You don’t have to
look very far to see all the signs.
Inyourworkplaceorindustry,forexample,what’s
the pay disparity between male and female
workers, assuming both possess the same level
of education, skills, and experience? What’s the
composition of the upper management? Are
women penalized for trying to balance career
and family? Or does the employer offer better
parental leave benefits not just for the mother but
for fathers as well?
It’s just a little over a month since women in Kenya
took to the streets to demonstrate against the
ever-rising rates of femicide. Since then, there
have been more femicide events, reported and
unreported.
A significant percentage of these are committed
by intimate partners and
family members. Most of
thetime,it’sjustbecausethe

This inequality isn't just
emotionallytaxing;ithastangible
financial consequences that limit
our options and stifle our potential.
But why can’t women just leave?
There are, of course, other factors that keep
women from walking away from such conditions,
like the fear about their safety. But there’s one key
factor we cannot brush aside, the lack of financial
security.Withoutthefinancialmuscletoknowthey
can easily say ‘Fuck You’, walk away, and never

continue to be stuck in these situations.
That's where the F*** You Fund comes in.
Think of it as more than just a swear jar for bad
bosses, toxic families, and abusive partners. A
F*** You Fund is a woman's path to financial
independence and true agency.
It's the freedom to walk away from any situation
that compromises your safety, dignity, mental
health, career progression, or dreams – whether
it's a toxic workplace, a harmful relationship, or
the soul-sucking grind of dead-end work.

This can manifest in various ways, such as your
salary discrepancies for comparable work or
underrepresentation in leadership roles.
With a F*** You Fund, you can command respect
thanks to the confidence it equips you with to
negotiate and the choice to walk away.
Financial security fosters self-assurance, which
enables you to confidently negotiate for fair
compensation, better working conditions, or
desired career opportunities.
When you find yourself in an environment where
contributions are undervalued or you face unfair
treatment, the F*** You Fund provides the critical
resources to walk away from such a situation
without succumbing to financial pressure.
This ability to make independent choices fosters
self-respect and sends a powerful message to
potential employers or collaborators.
Invest in Yourself
Investing in oneself is very important for both
personal and professional growth. However, due
to societal pressures and the juggling act of
managing various responsibilities, women often
prioritize the needs of others over their own self-
development.
13. SPENDERRIFIC / Know When and Where to Spend 12
This can lead to feelings of stagnation, unfulfilled
potential, and a disconnect between personal
aspirations and professional realities.
However, a F*** You Fund affords you the
opportunity to prioritize self-investment. You
can use this fund to finance various forms of
self-investment, such as attending professional
development workshops, pursuing additional
education or certifications, or seeking therapy
or coaching services to address personal or
professional challenges.

Tech Essentials for
Staying Productive
on the Road
Vacationing while working, or "workation," is
becoming a thing, especially for those who prefer
to work in a beach cabana with Wi-Fi rather than
sit in a traditional office cubicle.
Staying productive while on the road requires
some essential tech gear that acts like a toolbox
empowering you to work anywhere, from a cozy
café corner to a bustling city square.
Finding the right technology can be confusing,
though. You don't want to carry a suitcase filled
with every possible gadget, but you also don't
want to miss that one crucial device that can save
the day.
The right tech gear can make all the difference,
whether you're an experienced digital nomad or
just starting out.
Imagine typing away on a keyboard that feels so
right under your fingertips or joining a video call
with crystal clear audio even with background
noise. That's the level of productivity you should
aim for, and it's not just about the big-ticket items
like laptops or tablets.
The little things matter too, like a portable charger
that keeps your devices powered up or noise-
canceling headphones that let you focus.
Here are some essential tech gears that you must
pack to work while you're on vacation:
1. High-Performance Laptops: You need a
laptop with a robust processor, long battery life,
and lightweight design. The Apple MacBook Air
and Dell XPS series offer both performance and
portability.

c. Offline Access Solutions: If you don't have

Evernote provides a place to store your notes,
accessible with or without connectivity.
Making the Most of Your Workation: A
Balanced Approach
Now that you've equipped yourself with the right
tech gear, it's crucial to strike a balance between
workandrelaxationduringyour"workation."Here
are a few tips to make the most of your time:
i. Set Boundaries: Establish clear work hours to
avoid burnout. Communicate these boundaries
with your team and clients, ensuring everyone is
on the same page.
ii. Explore Your Surroundings: Take advantage
of your new work environment. Whether it's a
beach, mountain retreat, or bustling city, make
time to explore and experience the local culture.
iii. Stay Connected: While focusing on work,
don't forget to stay connected with loved ones.
Schedule virtual calls, share your adventures, and
maintain a healthy work-life balance.
iv. Embrace Flexibility: One of the perks of

While this lifestyle presents its challenges,
it provides an opportunity to create a work
environment that not only fulfills professional

This year's International Women's Day theme,

mere representation and foster environments
where women in supply chains thrive.
Here are some effective strategies for building
diverse and inclusive teams:
Make it a continuous process
Diversity isn’t just a one-time initiative, it’s an
ongoing commitment. It is good to have diversity
and inclusion ingrained in a company culture from
the start.
Companies should regularly assess and improve
practices to maintain an inclusive environment.
Hire leaders who understand the

Create inclusive facilities
True inclusivity of women in the workplace
necessitates fostering an environment where they
feel welcome, safe, and empowered to thrive.
Offering prayer rooms and smoking zones, non-
gendered restrooms, and facilities for persons
with a disability demonstrates respect for diverse
religious and gender identities.
Lactation spaces create a supportive environment
for working mothers and friendly parental leave
policies foster work-life balance and support new
parents.
Beyond this, addressing safety and security
concerns can help alleviate such concerns by
women.
Arrange safe and reliable transportation options,
especially for late-night shifts or work in remote
locations.
While there was an increase in the number of women in the C-level positions to 19% up from

Apply the Win-Win Criteria
Establish a criterion where both parties can win.
Negotiate terms that benefit everyone involved,
rather than focusing solely on individual gains.
Conduct Partnership Audits
Regularly assess your partnerships. Are they

Ensure you have the right team involved in
negotiations. Their expertise and authority go a

Societal stereotypes and perceptions, for
instance, continue to create an uphill battle for
women trying to break or grow in the industry,
thanks to the skepticism about their technical

Companies can counter these preconceived

The auto industry, like many others, is not immune
to issues of workplace harassment and

or overt forms of gender-based discrimination,
ranging from biased treatment to inappropriate

Companies must establish and enforce stringent
anti-harassment policies, fostering a culture that
promotes respect and equality.
Juggling work and family responsibilities
remains a significant challenge for women
everywhere, including in the automotive industry.
The demanding nature of certain roles, combined
with societal expectations, can create hurdles
for women aiming to maintain a healthy work-life

My experience is a mix of challenges, surprises, and
appreciation.
Climate
Coming from Nairobi, where the weather is cool, I
found it hard to adapt to the hot and arid climate in
the Middle East. But eventually, I got used to it and
learned to appreciate the beautiful sunny days.
Exploring the beaches and deserts in the region
was definitely a highlight for me. However, the hot
weather was a challenge, and I had to find ways to

Language Barrier
The language barrier was also a challenge. Most
people in the country spoke their local language,
which made communication difficult at first.
However, with time, I learned a new language,
which made it easier to communicate with my
fellow co-workers. I also took language classes,
which helped me to improve my communication
skills and connect with the locals.
It was a great opportunity to learn a new language
and explore the culture.
Cuisine
Cuisine was another significant challenge for me.
The foods were all imported and frozen, and the
fruits were not as fresh as I was used to. However, I

I also learned to cook some of the local dishes,
which was a great opportunity to explore the
