Physical Effects Of Child Abuse And Neglect
Effects of Child Abuse
Child abuse affects a person beyond their youth mentally, socially, and physically. Childhood
experiences can affect and determine adult personalities. This abuse, though it can be repressed, may
never be completely devoid from a victim s memory. These effects can be long lasting and damaging
to a victim s overall health.
Child abuse has long lasting effects on a person s mentality and emotional state. During early infancy
and childhood years, a child s brain develops at an incredible pace that it will never again experience.
Studies about early childhood development indicate that the brain develops in response to experiences
with caregivers, family and the community, and that its development is directly linked to the quality
and quantity of those experiences ( Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect ). If young ... Show more

Physically, effects of abuse may or may not be visibly present. Perpetrators, at times, will be careful to
leave little to no evidence of abuse. However, being able to recognize the physical effects of abuse can
be a crucial part of identifying abusive situations. Children, as their bodies are still developing, are
more susceptible to injury than adults are. Common physical effects that have been observed in
children who have been physically or sexually abused include: welting, bruises, abrasions, difficulty
walking or sitting, poor hygiene, and torn, bloody, or inappropriate clothing ( Effects of Child Abuse
and Neglect ). Sometimes the physical effects of abuse are not from the source of neglect. Often
children will develop a harmful tick as a way of coping or suppressing the traumatic memories.
Common ticks include eating disorders, drug use, self harm, and risky sexual decision making (
Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect ). Victims of abuse often have trouble learning or relearning to be
comfortable with touch, becoming an issue in several of their

Venesta Vs Covenanta Analysis
We can t run away from life because we are that life; and that life exist and it is real, we can
experience it according to TANTRA. So TANTRA uses this and reverses this cycle. One difference I
find is that TANTRA suggests transformation of anything or any non thing that binds/contract us. For
example attachment to our body or ego believing that we are that body or that we are that ego. So in
TANTRA, the body and all the things , non things and the energies of life are fully respected because
they are considered manifestations of the Divine, and the Divine resides within them, we are also that
Divine. The body is not good or bad, it is something to be transcended. On the other hand, VEDANTA
suggests a direct experience of transcending anything or any non thing as opposed to transformation
because there is nothing to be transformed. We are already that oneness, pure consciousness,
Brahman, the Absolut. The method of non dualistic VEDANTA is to negate all things or non things ,
which VEDANTA calls unreal, until one sees nothing, but Brahman, or pure and undifferentiated
consciousness. In order to reach the affirmation of oneness, every trace of duality must be rigorously
rejected; in other words, VEDANTA asks us to renounce the world of concepts, names and forms.
However, this is very easy to say, but more difficult to practice. It is like seeing the political map of
the world, we can see many borders dividing the world in many different countries, but in reality, if
we observe the world out from space, we do not see those lines/divisions; we see a beautiful round
planet mostly blue from its higher content in water. Those divisions do not exist ... Show more content

Triple Alliance Dbq
The Entente s odds in 1917 were grim. Both major offensives ended up in failure, the Russians
abandoned the war, the Italians were close to annihilation after Caporetto, and the Americans sent over
troops in small droves that were not battle ready. However, behind the wins of the Triple Alliance,
things were not boding well for them. The British blockade was slowly starving them, and Germany s
primary ally, Austria Hungary, was more of a liability than a help. Come 1918, Germany knew they
needed a big push for the win. Their supplies were rapidly depleting as all efforts to thwart the
continuation of Britain s blockade via unrestricted submarine warfare were unsuccessful. American
troops were being shipped in, albeit slowly, and Germany

Man s Search For Meaning By Viktor Frankl
Introduction
Man s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl describes his therapeutic doctrine (pg. 97), logotherapy.
Frankl further developed his theory based on his experiences living in the concentration camps during
World War II. He shares how this philosophy enabled him to survive the toughest times and find
motivation in life. In this paper, I will describe how Man s Search for Meaning provided personal
insights for dealing with the stresses of professional school. I will also address the impact of the
concentration camps on the prisoners using a biopsychosocial spiritual perspective and how Frankl s
challenge to always have a purpose in life can benefit families that are facing a difficult health related
diagnosis.
Personal insights
In logotherapy, Frankl states there are three different ways to find meaning in life, (1) by creating
work or doing a deed; (2) by experiencing something or encountering someone; and (3) by the attitude
we take toward unavoidable suffering (pg. 111). I realized these three tactics could be relevant to my
own life as I take on the challenge of optometry school. Optometry school is a huge commitment and
it demands four years of heavy course loads with challenging material. There is evidence that almost
30% of medical students experience symptoms of depression and around 11% have had suicidal
thoughts (Rotenstein et al., 2016). I prefer not to become one of these statistics during my time in
optometry school. I feel one way to prevent this

(Wells, 2011, p. 241). Bribery can come in many different forms but generally is defined as an act in
which something of value is offered, given, received or solicited with the intent of influencing an
official act. Illegal gratuities can be similar to bribes except these are usually given as a reward.
Economic extortion is basically the demanding of money. A conflict of interest occurs when an
employee, manager, or executive has an undisclosed economic or personal interest in a transaction that
adversely affects the organization. (Wells, 2011, p. 242). These are not all corruption schemes that
exist but have been determined to be more common than others and ones that should definitely be
watched for when completing an audit or a full financial status review.
Recommendation of types of accounting evidence and methods of gathering such evidence to support
the financial status review
Not all evidence is the same nor does it hold the same value in a case or trial. Evidence is defined as,
Anything perceptible by the five senses and any species of proof such as testimony of witnesses,
records, documents, facts, data or concrete objects... (Singleton and Singleton, 2010, p. 214). In order

Censorship Of The Media By Herbert Foerstel
The British tradition of censoring speech and press to preserve governmental power and dignity stems
from the 1275 enactment of De Scandalis Magnatum, which initially imposed penalties for any false
talk about the king and later covered such expression about any government officials [Foerstel, 1998:
4]
Censorship of the media as described by Herbert Foerstel took shape during the reign of King Edward
I. Ever since he made the decision to protect his government from the press the law has continued to
evolve, and while the regulations have since loosened to give the media freedom, the idea behind the
law remains constant. But can censorship be justified in a period, which by law (Article 10 of the
Human Rights Act 1998) offers the right to freedom of speech and acceptance of opinion and
interpretation?
Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and
to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority regardless of
frontiers. [HRA, 1998: Article 10]
Aims of content:
Establishing the advantages and disadvantages of censorship
Finding circumstances in which censorship can be justified in a democracy
Pointing out the dangers with censorship
To use examples, such as the Vietnam War and Page 3 to illustrate the first two points
Censorship is restrictions on communication flows imposed by the government rather than the media

The Characteristics And Features Of Mutual Funds
1.1 General Introduction
The term investment refers to the commitment of funds made with an expectation of some positive
returns. Two essentials aspects of investment are that firstly it involves waiting for returns, and
secondly it involves an element of risk of not getting what is expected of the investment. Basically
investment means purchase of financial asset that yield a return, which is proportionate to risk
assumed over some future period of time.
In finance, investment means buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the
money markets or capital markets, or other in fairly liquid real assets, such as good as an investment,
real estate or collectibles with a view to earn some gain over a period of time.
1.2 Features of Investment
All the investment have the following features:

Professional Management
Mutual Funds provide the services of experienced and skilled professionals, backed by a dedicated
investment research team that analyses the performance and prospects of companies and selects
suitable investments to achieve the objectives of the scheme.
2. Diversification
Mutual Funds invest in a number of companies across a broad cross section of industries and sectors.
This diversification reduces the risk because seldom do all stocks decline at the same time and in the
same proportion. You achieve this diversification through a Mutual Fund with far less money than you
can do on your own.
3. Convenient Administration
Investing in a Mutual Fund reduces paperwork and helps you avoid many problems such as bad
deliveries, delayed payments and follow up with brokers and companies. Mutual Funds save your time
and make investing easy and convenient.
4. Return Potential
Over a medium to long term, Mutual Funds have the potential to provide a higher return as they invest
in a diversified basket of selected securities.

Pros And Cons Of The Treaty Of Versailles
Treaty of Versailles
In January,1919 the allied leaders attended a peace conference to discuss about the peace terms they
would offer to the central power in Paris. Twenty seven victorious Allied powers were present, but the
meetings were dominated by the Winners , Britain, France and USA. Russia was not summoned
because she was not trusted after the Bolshevik Revolution of November 1917 and had already made
peace with Germany. The treaty was crafted so that Germany would be disabled and it wouldn t restart
another war and the country was severely treated as her most worthy assets were taken. The
stipulations of the treaty were categorized into three groups: Territorial, Military and Financial and
economic. Germany was coerced by the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During World War One, Bulgaria was an ally of Germany and the big three were not made to either be
understanding or open handed to Bulgaria. Like Germany and Austria, as other settlements after the
war, Bulgaria was required to shrink its army and pay restitutions. Following the treaty of Neuilly, the
Bulgarian Army was limited to just 20,000 men and was ordered to pay reparations of £400 million.
Under the articles, Thrace (a geographical and historical area in southeast Europe, now split between
Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey) was granted to Greece.
What s more, Bugalria lost its admission to the Aegean Sea, which it had achieved in 1913 in the first
Balkan war. The newly formed kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of Yugoslavia after
1929) stretched its eastern borders and gained the Macedonian territory. Southern Doruja was also lost
to Romania.
This treaty was not effective because Bulgaria did not follow it through until 75% was decreased from
it. Upon learning of the terms of the Treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian people were furious. However,
they were powerless and couldn t do anything to change the conditions. When World War Two broke
out, Bulgaria sided with Nazi Germany and regained all the land taken from her by the Treaty of
Neuilly. By the time World War Two ended, Bulgaria s effective independence also

Ethical Issues In America
Many Americans have the luxury of purchasing new electronics almost every year. Something that is
ignored, since it has become so natural, is exactly how their little devices had come to their lives and
what happens when it is thrown away. In a more perfect world, the production of electronics would
that of an ethical process, but it is unfortunately not that case. It all starts with the harvesting of raw
materials. When bringing up the idea of a 100 percent ethically sourced smartphone, Caroline Winter
quotes from researcher for the company Fairphone, That would be nearly impossible, says Bibi
Bleekemolen, a researcher for the company (Winter). This was followed by a conversation of the main

Jefferson also brings to attention is that these conditions can become better, he mentions that
Consumers can and should demand better from our electronics manufacturers when we do so, things

The Refugee Crisis And The Arab Spring
The Refugee Crisis
Nothing ever stays in the place it stars; everything has a habit of spreading. Throughout history,
problems rarely ended in the places they started. Like the plague, Ebola, WWI/II, communism, the
Arab spring, and now the Syrian crisis. The Arab Spring was a series of anti government protests,
uprisings, and armed rebellions that spread across the Middle East in early 2011. The Arab spring
protest against al Assad s Syrian government in the spring of 2011 evolved into an armed conflict
between oppositions and government forces in certain cities and then evolved into a civil war. The
Syrian civil war caused the large scale diaspora of Syrian citizens, leading to the Syrian refugee crisis.
The Syrian refugee crisis led to psychological and physical problems for the refugees and various
problems in neighboring host countries, but solutions have been effective so far.
The refugee crisis led to physical problems like inadequate accommodation, lack of necessities, and
comfort. In addition, Psychological problems, due to trauma that has been suffered and continuing
problems with day to day living. According to the United Nations, approximately 2 million Syrian
refugees are seeking asylum in the neighboring countries of Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon and half of
those refugees are children Thousands of these children were displaced in refugee camps; some of
them without their parents to comfort them from the horrors of war (a1). According to Dr. Rona,

It came with croutons, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled chicken tossed in ceasar dressing in an enormous
plate. I was so satisfied with my appetizer and the delicious complimentary bread that I had to order a
salad and even that was too much for me to finish. Even though I was too full, I had to order one of
their infamous cheesecakes after all. I ordered the Oreo Extreme which was a special edition
cheesecake and it was big and delicious enough to feed my whole family.
Lastly the service at The Cheesecake Factory caught my attention. As soon as we walked through the
door we heard, How are you? Welcome to the Cheesecake Factory . We were taken to our table by our
hostess and then we were asked a drink order. Our drinks were received and the order was taken in a
timely manner. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and was very polite while taking our
order. We were told our order would be put right in, and the drinks with the complimentary bread
came in no time. Then the food arrived and we began to eat. As we ate our meal the server came over
twice to check on us and get us refills. We asked for our check and it was received and paid very
quickly. While dining at The Cheesecake Factory, the service was fantastic. The server was very
attentive and took very good care of us. I enjoyed my experience impressively and will continue to
come back here any chance I get. The Cheesecake Factory restaurant makes the best out of everyone s

Essay on Automobiles in the 1950s
Automobiles in the 1950s Another element that was present in the 1950 s was automobiles.
Automobiles were something that everyone once dreamed of owning. Now after the war. they could
finally own one. Automobiles of the 1940 s were dull and very plain. This was because designers were
too busy designing tanks, planes, etc... for the ongoing war. The major event that took place that
changed the way cars looked and how they performed happened on October 14, 1947. This was when
Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier. From this point on everyone wanted to go faster.
People wanted automobiles with larger displacement engines. They also wanted sleek and

The caddy tail fins continued to grow until they reached there height in 1959 when they were almost
as tail as the car itself.
As the number of automobiles increased so did the number of road trips that people were going on. All
of the traveling motorists needed places to stay. This brought about the development of the motel.
Motel combines the words motorist and hotel . By the mid 1950 s the smaller quaint motor lodges of
the 30 s and 40 s no longer could compete with rising motel corporations like Howard Johnson or Best
Western. These corporations designed their motels to be comfortable and practical for those staying in
them. They also built them with a standard design. The catchy facades of the older motels were no
longer attracting the customers. Motels also started franchising and referral chains. A referral chain
would consist of several motels that form a union and refer customers to the other hotels in the union.
Some large franchises that started in the 1950 s were Super 8 and Holiday Inn. These franchises soon
spread out all over the country and put the smaller mom and pop motels out of business. With the
number of road trips increasing the destinations that they were traveling to were also bringing in more
people.
These destinations included national parks, family camps, wilderness areas such as the beach and the

Tuberculosis And The World Health Organization
Every 25 seconds a person dies from tuberculosis. This equates to approximately 1.3 million people
every year (Global Alliance for TB Drug Development, 2014). Tuberculosis, or more commonly
known as TB, is more prominent in developing countries with 80% of Asian and African countries
testing positive for tuberculosis (Abbas AK, 2007). India currently has the most cases of TB in the
world (World Health Organization, 2009). There are a few types of TB such as common, partial drug
resistant and drug resistant. The disease that will be focused on today is common tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis is as old as mankind. It was first officially recognised by Hippocrates who described the
symptoms of the disease as coughing up blood and weight loss that eventually led to death. In the 16th
century a theory was proposed that the disease was transmitted via microorganisms. This was not
proven until 1882. In the 1880 s, the chosen way of curing tuberculosis was for the patients to receive
clear air, a balanced diet and plenty of rest. This was used not only to treat the patients but to also
isolate them. During the 19th century, the spread of the disease slowed as living conditions and
hygiene improved. In the 20th century a vaccination was developed as well as antibiotics. This
resulted in the disease declining dramatically. It wasn t until the 1980 s that the disease reappeared
again due to the aids epidemic. Due to the aids sufferers having a weaker immune system, they were

Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle Tale
Once I read the Norton Anthology section as well as the Washington Irving introduction. I learned a

This tale was found in papers belonging to a Diedrich Knickerbocker. He was a man with curiosity in
the province of the Dutch. And how the primitive settlers behaved. Although his resources did not
come from books, but from men themselves. Even still his researches resulted in accuracy and has
been established as a history of the Dutch governors province. There really is no questions about the
writings now. And are now historical collections. Yet still his mistakes are not remembered with anger
but sorrow. This is because he never meant to offend one, and this makes his critics appreciate it.
Many people hold him close. And provided him the chance of immortality, which is equal to the

Analysis Of Doctrine By Yoan Capote
Today, Wednesday, July 5, 2017 I took my first trip ever to the North Carolina Museum in Raleigh
North Carolina. I found myself in shock at how much I enjoyed myself looking and analysing all the
different types of art pieces that were present in the gallery. While walking around there were so many
different types of artwork that I found it hard to decide on which piece to shared about this week.
While walking and observing all the beauty that was being seen it amazed me about all the different
way an artist could express themselves. While looking and taking in every little detail of each artwork,
there was one particular piece of artwork that was very interested. It was called Doctrine by Yoan
Capote.
Yoan Capote was born in 1977 and is from Cuba. Yoan Capote creates artwork that poetically captures
personal experience and universal issues of power, alienation, isolation and restrictions. Capote works
symbolize themes of humanity, studying their interface, representation of physical or sensory
possibilities. His artwork Doctrine is a sculpture of a cast bronze chair and steel handcuffs. In his
artwork, Doctrine the chair is made of wax pulled out of shape by the addition of real hand cuffs, were
then cast into bronze. His art is a 3 D in, which made this piece appear more realistic than a painting.
As I stood there looking at a Capote sculpture of the chairs it was obvious that he really wanted
everyone to see that he had a story that he was trying to tell by

Unit 2 Assignment 1 Cellular Structures and Pathogenicity
Cellular Structures and Pathogenicity
Jennifer L. Wethington
ITT Technical Institute
Unit 2 Assignment 1 Bacterial illness is a result of complex interactions between bacteria and the host.
During evolution, humans developed many ways to protect themselves against bacterial pathogens.
On the other hand, bacteria have developed strategies to evade, subvert or circumvent these defenses
(Sousa, 2003) One of the most important characteristics of bacterial pathogenicity is the various
strategies developed by prokaryotic organisms to use host molecules for their own benefit (Sousa,
2003). To accomplish this, bacteria have evolved elaborate control mechanisms to turn genes on and

In the initial phase of infection, environmental strains of P. aeruginosa from any aqueous setting are
inadvertently inhaled or otherwise delivered to the upper respiratory tract (Feldman, et al., 1998). It is
at this stage where the expression of functional flagella is critical, providing chemotaxis toward
desirable substrates, such as mucin, and the motility essential for widespread dissemination (Feldman,
et al., 1998). In the normal host, the presence of defenses and additional antimicrobial peptides, the
affinity of flagella components for mucin glycopeptides, and the process of mucociliary clearance are
likely to eradicate such transiently inhaled organisms from the respiratory tract before any epithelial
immune response is elicited (Feldman, et al., 1998).
While motility is commonplace among the prokaryotes, it is important to note the variety of structures
responsible for motility. These structures vary depending not only on the organism in question, but
also on the particular environment (Bardy, Ng, Jarrell, 2003). Study of the bacterial flagellum has
provided insights into many aspects of prokaryotic cellular activities including genetics and
regulation, physiology, environmental sensing, protein secretion and assembly of complex structures
(Bardy, Ng, Jarrell, 2003). Continued study of all prokaryotic motility structures will provide
knowledge that is likely to reach far beyond the topic of motility and pathogenicity (Bardy, Ng,

System Development Life Cycle Models
System Development Life Cycle Models The concept of making employees to form a work group is
very simple. But to make it fit the system is challenging. System Development Life Cycle uses certain
principles to assure that systems meet their requirements (DOJ, 2000). These principles impose
various degrees of discipline to the process to make it efficient and even predictable. The entire model
goes through certain phases of investigation to System Operation. It is matter of personnel choice
entirely to develop any model. Each model will suit only particular conditions. The main challenge is
to select the correct model for the system to make more efficient. THE SEVEN STEP

Forelimb Ladder Experiment
The purpose of this experiment was to compare rat forelimb preference in the cylinder task and
performance on the horizontal ladder task before and after ischemic stroke in the left motor cortex.
This demonstrates the behavioural effects of ischemic strokes in localized brain regions, including
motor areas. Our results implicate the motor cortex in the production of voluntary movement, and
illustrate the effect of neuronal death on this behaviour. These results support our hypotheses,
revealing that stroke produces deficits in horizontal ladder task performance and decreases forelimb
preference for the limb contralateral to the stroke region. Our results for the horizontal ladder task
found that, on the side contralateral to where stroke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also likely that the rat forepaws could not fit through this gap, and that fewer errors were recorded
simply due to the close spacing of the rungs. In the 1 Irregular condition, it is possible that
compensatory changes in locomotion to the stroke occurred. This is unlikely, however, as the purpose
of irregular spacing is to control for post stroke compensation (Metz and Whishaw, 2009). All other
ladder conditions showed an increase in paw slip errors post stroke, including the regular patterns.
This suggests that rats were unable to compensate behaviourally to the regular patterns post stroke.
Regardless, literature shows that compensatory behaviours occur on the horizontal ladder task within a
few sessions (Metz and Whishaw, 2002; Metz et al., 2005). However, our rats only performed three
trials for each condition on the horizontal ladder over one day. Thus, the compensatory mechanisms
may have needed more time to develop in response to stroke. Results from the cylinder task showed a
significant increase in left forelimb preference (with a corresponding decrease in right forelimb

Pros And Cons Of The Bill Of Rights
The Bill of Rights is the collective name for the first ten amendments to the United States
Constitution. Proposed following the often times bitter 1787 1788 battle over ratification of the
Constitution, and crafted to address the objections raised by Anti Federalists, the Bill of Rights
amendments add certain safeguards of democracy specific guarantees of personal freedoms and rights;
clear limitations on the government s power in judicial and other proceedings; and explicit
declarations that all powers not specifically delegated to Congress by the Constitution are reserved for
the states or the people to the Constitution. The concepts codified in these amendments are built upon
those found in several earlier documents, including the Virginia

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Role Play Activity
The Role Play Activity
The Role Play Activity could be the best way to stimulate conversation. By this activity, 1st year EFL
learners can learn new vocabulary, words statements and know how to use them in its correct context
by asking to perform dialogues, negotiate with your partner on an item such as computer or large piece
of furniture, and discuss things such as warranty that are found in (ESLGold, 2010). This activity will
help them to know the right place of each discourse and give them an opportunity to practice it well,
improve the FL and create a relaxed area while sharing ideas. As Livingstone said, The role play is a

In simulations, 1st year EFL learners could bring items to the class to create a realistic environment.
For instance, if a learner is acting as a singer, she brings a microphone to sing and so on. Role plays
and simulations have many advantages. First, since they are entertaining, they motivate the learners.
Second, as Harmer (2001, p. 275) suggests, they increase the self confidence of hesitant learners,
because in role play and simulation activities, they will have a different role and do not have to speak
for themselves.
Storytelling
First year EFL Learners could create their own stories to tell their classmates or summarize a tale or
story they heard from somebody else. Story telling could help learners developing creative thinking
and to know how to develop ideas from introduction, body, and then conclusion without forgetting to
include the characters and the setting. Learners also can tell riddles or jokes. For instance, at the
beginning of each class, the teacher should call few learners to tell short riddles or jokes as an
opening. In this way, he will not only address their speaking ability but getting the attention of the
class.

The Death of Communism
The Death of Communism
The United States longest and bloodiest war was the Vietnam War, which was fought from 1959 until
1975.(Communist Manifesto 1) In this war 57,685 Americans were killed, and their were over 2
million Vietnamese deaths.(Communist Manifesto 3) One of the main causes of the war was a
commonly held American belief called the Domino Theory. This theory stated that if the U.S. allowed
one country to fall to communism, those around it would fall, and then those around it, eventually
taking over the whole world. However, the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 allows to approach
communism in a new light.
The Communist Manifesto has three sections. The first is an outline of the history of the bourgeois and

Marx states that the distinguishing feature of Communism is not the abolishment of property
generally, but the abolishment of bourgeois property. (Marx 7) Marx is arguing that the capitalist
societies of the time have done away with property for nine tenths of the population already, and the
only way to remove class distinctions is to abolish private property.
The final section of the Communist Manifesto, Marx attacks various countries attempts at socialism
and proclaims that communist disdain to conceal their aims. (Marx 8) He finishes with a call to arms:
Let the ruling classes tremble at a communist revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but
their chains. They have a world to win. Working men of all countries, unite! (Marx 9)
The Communist Manifesto was written in a time when people were starting to realize all the injustices
the industrial revolution and modern industry had created. However, this situation no longer exists.
Gone, are the bourgeois and proletarians; a middle class has risen up; communism has begun to fall.
Marx describes the rise of the bourgeois by saying the place of manufacture was taken by the giant,

Boeing Co amp; Lockheed Martin Corp Analysis
Our financial reporting analysis consists of Lockheed, the largest defense company in the world and
Boeing, the largest commercial aircraft producer. Both companies rely heavily on government
funding, contracts, and regulation. Future growth for the two companies relies on sales of Lockheed
and Boeing s aircrafts such as the Fighter Jet F 35 and the Dreamliner 787. Although these companies
have many similarities, their core business varies. Furthermore, to properly compare these two
companies, financial analysts have to make adjustments to their quarterly and yearly filings. ... Show

Capital Lease Analysis
According to Boeing s most recent 10 K, the company states property, plant and equipment (PP
amp;E) at $8,931 million which excludes all operating leases (Exhibit 1). However, after making our
adjustments we found an increase to PP amp;E of $1,509 million or 16.90 percent with the addition of
operating leases stated in company s footnotes of their 2010 annual report. Boeing s long term debt
also increased by 13.15 percent which demonstrates to investors that the company is significantly
more risky after the conversion of operating leases. These adjustments would also increase the
company s expenses in earlier years for any plant or equipment leased as capital leases are depreciated
over time, therefore creating a decrease in net income in earlier years.
Boeing s financial risk ratios were also impacted by converting all operating leases into capital leases.
The Debt to Total Capital Ratio increased from 68.36 percent to 69.04 percent and the Debt to Equity
Ratio increased from 16.38 to 16.90 (Exhibit 1). It is imperative for the company s corporate finance
division to closely manage their long term debt by minimizing the capital lease values on the balance
sheet as Boeing s debt covenants could be broken should these ratios increase above

On June 10, 2015, I will be graduating and entering the real world. In the days to follow, I plan on
attending college and playing collegiate sports. My first option is to attend Central Washington
University, the school that my dad attended in the 1980 s; there I would major in Communications.
However, if I am not offered a scholarship for baseball, and I am not able to attend, I will attend a

The way that this works is exactly like any other syllabus, except each grade has a zero after the
normal grade, so if it was 93 for an A, it would be 930 for an A in this class. Also what I gathered from
this is that, the attendance policy is completely different than in high school. It states, no more than
three absences are allowed. For each absence beyond the third, your grade will be dropped one step.
For example, if you have been absent four times and have a B average, you will be assigned a B .if
you are not prepared for class, e.g. You have no rough draft on peer review day, or if you have been
consistently late for class, you will be counted absent. Also if you do not bring your books on a day
that it is necessary, you will be marked absent. The workload for Mrs. Browner s English 101 class
appears to be immense, but when you actually read the schedule on the syllabus, it is not a horrible
amount but it is decent. The only time consuming piece of work would be all of the editing and
portfolio and reflection work. Along side of this work is a good amount reading. In this class there is
not a final, all you need to turn in is your portfolio and reflections, which is only worth 50 of 1000
points. Unfortunately Mrs. Browner does not have any office hours

The Pros And Cons Of Net Neutrality Rules
Have you ever wondered why we can t curse on TV or on the radio? And if he/she does that, that
person gets fined an exorbitant amount of money. But who s giving the fine? Who is saying it is
illegal? The answer is the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). They regulate interstate and
International Communications by radio, television, water, satellite, and cable in all 50 states. In other
words, they monitor communications through regulations. These FCC regulations has the force of law.
Everyone must follow these regulations; citizens and corporations.
Even during the eighteenth Century the United States Communications was being regulated. But what

But what exactly is Net neutrality? Net neutrality means cable companies such as Time Warner Cable
and Verizon cannot charge more for faster internet speeds. Which means everybody who uses the
internet will have the same speed. Hence the word neutrality. Verizon communication sued the Federal
Communication Commission (FCC) saying that they do not have jurisdiction over that subject and
limiting speeds is a violation of the First Amendment. The FCC says Net neutrality rules are designed
to preserve the internet as an open platform enabling consumer Choice, freedom of expression, and
end user control, competition, and the freedom to innovate without permission. This case went to the
US court of appeals for the DC circuit. The courts ruled in favor of a Verizon. The reasoning for the
decision is that FCC has no authority to apply common carrier obligation like non discrimination and
no blocking rules to broadband providers. I agree with this decision. The reason is that the internet
should not be like electricity. If you plug your phone into the wall to charge. It s going to have the
same amount of current as someone else charging their phone. But what happens if I want to charge
my phone faster? I can t because electricity is neutral. But when I go on the internet and I see it is
slow. What happens if I want to make it faster? With Net neutrality I could not make it faster. I want
the option to make my internet faster. And what happens to large corporations where internet speed is
essential to stay in business? The fact of the matter is that the FCC does not have jurisdiction over this
matter. Net neutrality should never be passed. It will only hurt the consumer. In addition, the FCC
approved of a $9.25 monthly charge to help low income families connect to the internet. Three out of
the five Commissioners voted for the subsidy plan. This approval is one part of the reform of the fund

Example Of Prospect Theory
Prospect theory is a theory of decision making under conditions of risk. The theory is best known for
its hypothesis that individuals are risk averse with respect to gains and risk acceptant with respect to
losses and for its emphasis on the importance of the actor s framing of decisions around a reference
point.
Prospect theory is one of a number of alternative theories of individual choice that behavioral decision
theorists have constructed in an attempt to integrate observed anomalies in expected utility theory into
a more descriptively accurate theory of choice using an S shaped value function. The S function curve
of the value is derived from the experimental results and lacks a complete theoretical explanation. But

Prospect theory is considered substantive rationality rather than procedural rationality. Substantive
rationality is the optimization of a given goal under given conditions and constraints, and is a function
of goals and situational constraints but not intervening reasoning process. While procedural rationality
focuses on the decision making process. Therefore, the prospect theory cannot be adapted to the
cognitive rational debate . The evaluation stage in the prospect theory is more similar to the rational
economic theory. But it is the theory editing and framing have more in common with cognitive
process theories. To conclude, the prospect theory research program is a limitation of the theory but
not a fatal flaw.
Shortcomings of Prospect Theory
a) The descriptive generalizations on which prospect theory is based emerge from static conditions of
experimental research in highly structured, non interactive laboratory settings make it difficult to
extrapolate its findings to the complex world of international relations where the consequences of one
s actions are partially a function of the actions of another.
1) It is extremely difficult in the real world to identify whether an actor selects a particular option
because of framing, loss aversion, or any other anomalies of expected utility

Was Andrew Jackson Democratic?
Andrew Jackson was the 7th president of the United States. He started out poor and worked his way
up. Jackson was in some cases democratic and in others, he was not democratic. Democracy is a
government where the people have the power. Jackson was undemocratic when he took over the

Tracing Narrative Threads in Life of Pi Essay examples
Tracing Narrative Threads 1) Father s admonitions to stay away from the tiger in the zoo.
During this part of the novel, Pi s father is teaching him a lesson by letting a tiger brutally kill a goat
right in front of him. He is trying to teach Pi to not go near an animal such as tigers because they are
incredibly dangerous. I believe this thread represents the foreshadowing of what is to come for Pi.
When Pi and Ravi s father was telling them about staying away from tigers he said Tigers are very
dangerous. I want you to understand that you are never under any circumstances to touch a tiger, to pet

The name Pi is also symbolic because as Pi stated: I was named after a swimming pool (8) The word
Piscine in French translate to swimming pool in English. The significance of his name is because he
spends 227 days in a huge swimming pool (the ocean) fighting for his life.
The thread develops during the novel because as the novel goes on and he s stuck on the lifeboat, Pi
starts to question who Pi really is. When he starts questioning who he is, he finds it hard to learn who
he truly wants to be. The message the author is trying to get across is be true to yourself. 3) Young Pi s
dedication to three religions
As explained in the book, Pi follows three different religions; Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. Pi is
extremely interested in all three religions and tries to find himself through religion. Although, he does
not understand why he can t follow all three religions. But he can t be a Hindu, a Christian and a
Muslim. It s impossible. He must choose. (76) This thread represents that he dedicates himself to the
things he believes in and will fight for what he believes in. Even when his family disagreed with his
decision of following all three religions, he still fought for what he believed.
This thread develops during the novel because while he is on the lifeboat Pi starts questioning who
truly he is and wants to be. The young boy who was once dedicated to vegetarianism, which was
rooted in his religion, must make a life changing decision.

Color Checker Research Paper
I used to play checkers as a kid and I was good at the game. Most of the time I won at the game so I
would throw half of a game to create more of a challenge for me. I would wonder, where did the game
come from, and who played it first. I never had the notion to look it up until now.
From my research I had found that it is a very old game as old as 3000 B.C. The rules are simple: you
place your checkers on the darker squares on your side of the board. You take turns moving the
checkers diagonally towards your opponent. You take your opponents pieces by jumping your piece
over theirs. You must jump when a jump presents itself.

First, determine who is to be black . You can use any method for this you wish, flip a coin, alternate,
etc. However, the most common method in amateur play is for one of the players to take one color
checker in each hand and hold out his hands before him. The other player chooses a hand, the color
checker in that hand determines the color with which he plays.
The object is to eliminate all opposing checkers or to create a situation in which it is impossible for
your opponent to make any move. Normally, the victory will be due to complete elimination. Black
moves first and play proceeds alternately. From their initial positions, checkers may only move
forward. There are two types of moves that can be made, capturing moves and non capturing moves.
Non capturing moves are simply a diagonal move forward from one square to an adjacent square.
(Note that the white squares are never used.) Capturing moves occur when a player jumps an opposing
piece. This is also done on the diagonal and can only happen when the square behind (on the same
diagonal) is also open. This means that you may not jump an opposing piece around a corner. On a
capturing move, a piece may make multiple jumps. If after a jump a player is in a position to make
another jump then he may do so. This means that a player may make several jumps in succession,
capturing several pieces on a single

Dear Dr. Kwa,
I chose to write about the play Oedipus Tyrannous by Sophocles, I found this play to be very
encapsulating to the very end. I really enjoyed the suspense, as well as the turn of direction that the
play took in the end as the plot thickened. In this essay, I will describe why I personally believe that
this play was not just a tragic event and the many reasons why I believe that Oedipus can be viewed as
a tragic hero by his actions throughout the play. I believe that some of my strengths in this essay will
show that I have written a well developed and explanatory essay that will prove to be true of my
analysis of Oedipus s heroism in his words to support my opinions. I know that some of the verses that
I quoted form the play can be interpreted differently so I would definitely like to get your take on
those quotes that I cited that you feel may have a deeper meaning or interpretation altogether. I also
view this as my weakness because of the way that some of the verses are worded or the choice of
words used, it was hard for me to understand as it sounded a bit off. I also know that I used a few large
sections of quotes which I made up for in my in my word count.

also to old services which are need to improve the service design which are necessary to maintain the

They said that design is moving closer to the social innovation linking its characteristics at different
levels. For example, service and relationships to social needs or improving life conditions and social

In order to successfully implement the plan of design or projects of service management there has to
be efficient use of 4P s: The People, the Process, the Products and the Partners. To function the service
management, the 4P s must be overlapped to each other. There should balance between all the 4P s to
ensure safe and appropriate design. The design approach must be comprehensive, because most of the
problems faced by the organizations are focus on the functional requirements. The design architecture
should be considered from all the aspects. Therefore, there are several design aspects, they are:
Service level management, Availability management, Service catalogue management, Security

Service Level Management:
Service level management is an important link between IT and business. Service level provides a good
foundation for good quality service, cost reduction IT services and ensuring compliance with the

speak and comprehend language was from watching a family. Someone said, Frankenstein ends up
living in the forest and observing a family he calls cottagers (1). This is where he started to learn and

Learning Theories And Their Application
The different learning theories and their application in e learning are discussed in this paper. This
paper provides a clear idea of learning and the various learning theories which helps people in the
acquisition of knowledge through their environments; and also the history and the role of significant
people involved in the development of those theories. It also provides the information about the role of
these theories in the process of making e learning materials, or in the process of e learning.
INTRODUCTION
Learning, though seems to be an uncomplicated topic, it has a deep subject to go through. Firstly, what
is learning? Learning is simply defined as the process of acquiring, enhancing, or modifying one s
prevailing skills, knowledge, behavior, etc. Perceptional, emotional, and environmental influences
play an active role in the process of learning. The information that is acquired, processed, and retained
during learning is described by Learning Theory. Simply, learning theory describes how the people
learn.
There are three main categories in Learning Theories: Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism.
Behaviorism
Behaviorism is a theory of learning which defines that all behaviors are acquired through the
interaction with the environment. As stated in the writings of John B. Watson, B. F. Skinner, and
others, behavior can be studied through careful observation, irrespective of the internal mental states.
Behaviorists believe

Will T. Snider s Essay Hey Daddy
Hey Daddy argumentative essay by Will T Snider In the poem Hey Daddy (please come back) we
know very little about Jesse s dad other than he has a son named Jesse and one day he left on a plane
and didn t come back. Have you ever wondered what happened to Jesse Debenport s dad in Hey
Daddy To answer this question, let s dive into the realm of speculation as to what happened to Jesse s
dad. You will find that if you look between the lines you will find a convoluted answer to a simple
question. So let s start with what we know about Mr. Debenport and try to conclude why he left. The
information we know about Mr. Debenport is minute; we know he has a son, which means either he
adopted or had a wife. According to the poem, .....The whole family ... Show more content on

I mean I this situation wouldn t you be too? But there other people who believe different things about
this poem many people claim he just had a divorce so here is why he didn t. The poem mentions the
whole family is grieving key word here grieving. Yes a little sadness happens over a divorce but
centrally not grieving, grieving is usually used in the context of death. But how did you come to the
conclusion of 9/11 being the cause death of for the dad well as the intro stated this is just a speculation
as to what happened to Jesse s dad not fact. So this leaves you with a basic answer that seems like a
mad lib fill in the blank the dad died on (9/11). Though it s cheesy up until this though all other
theories were to be turf and pithy stupid and nonsensical they were all death by plane crash, divorce,
went missing and just left all of Theas are missing a why and how he either died or left. I m Shure you
know the statement don t judge a book by its cover well with other hey daddy theories you can and
they go along these lines uninteresting, cliché, thoughtless and heavy handedly written. We now know
a tiny more about Jesse s dad and what happened to him. We can guess that Jesse was driven to
depression after the death of his dad and chose to be an author. Jesse chose to be an author after his
dad died on a business trip to New York. So to conclude we now see why this poem is so depressing at
the end. Jesse s dad didn t leave he died on 9/11 on united airlines flight 175 when the plane hit the

Head Start Essay example
Head Start
Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs which serve children
from birth to age five, pregnant woman and their extended families. They are child focused programs
that have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low income families.
. These programs try to prepare young children intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically for
their future educational and social endeavors. ( U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
2002).. The programs prepare the parent(s) to be supportive in the endeavor. Head Start has the
philosophy that parents are a child s first and most influential teacher. The Head Start program is
beneficial to early learning.

The program serves approximately
915,000 children. During the 1999 reauthorization, Congress decided that there was a need for
standards of literacy (which have not yet been fully implemented) . ( Good Start, Grow Smart: The
Bush Administration s Early Childhood Initiatives, 2002).
In the 1994 legislation revised Head Start performance standards.
Guidelines and new standards were set nationwide. The legislation focused on infants and toddlers and
their families as well as quality services for children. The education program is designed to meet the
needs of each child in Head Start.
Children must meet specific guidelines in order to qualify for Head Start. Family income (over the last
year) is considered. The family must be a low income family (income below the official poverty
level). Other things taken into consideration for acceptance are the lack of another pre school program
in the community, a population of less than 1,000 persons and residence in a remote area.
Head Start programs emphasize the importance of early identification of health problems. Referrals
are made to various agencies after each family s needs are identified. Every child accepted into the
program receives free medical benefits. The child must have a thorough physical examination and a
complete dental examination, as well as hearing and vision screening. Follow up and treatment are a

Erving Goffman s Essay Footing
In simple terms, footing is what your stance in a conversation is. Erving Goffman, author of Forms of
Talk, writes an essay titled Footing. In this essay, Goffman introduces a story of president Nixon and
an interviewer in which the president in a way changes her occupation from a reporter to a housewife.
By talking to her in a nonprofessional way and demeaning her from her job status, to referring to her
as a woman that would look good in a dress, he is changing her footing in this environment and
conversation. Goffman, himself has defined a change in footing: A change in footing implies a change
in alignment we take up to ourselves and the others present as expressed in the way we manage the
production or reception of an utterance, (Goffman 1981:128). In our daily lives with our normal
conversations, we may not take a step back and analyze every move we make or the choice of words
we use. This past week I have been thinking about what Goffman has written about footing and have
analyzed a few conversations and interactions with myself. There was only one major event that had
happened where there were quite a few turns. Last Thursday, May 11th, a friend and I went to the dog
park with my dog, Miley. As I picked up my friend, Onica, I told her ... Show more content on

  • 2. Physical Effects Of Child Abuse And Neglect Effects of Child Abuse Child abuse affects a person beyond their youth mentally, socially, and physically. Childhood experiences can affect and determine adult personalities. This abuse, though it can be repressed, may never be completely devoid from a victim s memory. These effects can be long lasting and damaging to a victim s overall health. Child abuse has long lasting effects on a person s mentality and emotional state. During early infancy and childhood years, a child s brain develops at an incredible pace that it will never again experience. Studies about early childhood development indicate that the brain develops in response to experiences with caregivers, family and the community, and that its development is directly linked to the quality and quantity of those experiences ( Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect ). If young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physically, effects of abuse may or may not be visibly present. Perpetrators, at times, will be careful to leave little to no evidence of abuse. However, being able to recognize the physical effects of abuse can be a crucial part of identifying abusive situations. Children, as their bodies are still developing, are more susceptible to injury than adults are. Common physical effects that have been observed in children who have been physically or sexually abused include: welting, bruises, abrasions, difficulty walking or sitting, poor hygiene, and torn, bloody, or inappropriate clothing ( Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect ). Sometimes the physical effects of abuse are not from the source of neglect. Often children will develop a harmful tick as a way of coping or suppressing the traumatic memories. Common ticks include eating disorders, drug use, self harm, and risky sexual decision making ( Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect ). • 3. Venesta Vs Covenanta Analysis We can t run away from life because we are that life; and that life exist and it is real, we can experience it according to TANTRA. So TANTRA uses this and reverses this cycle. One difference I find is that TANTRA suggests transformation of anything or any non thing that binds/contract us. For example attachment to our body or ego believing that we are that body or that we are that ego. So in TANTRA, the body and all the things , non things and the energies of life are fully respected because they are considered manifestations of the Divine, and the Divine resides within them, we are also that Divine. The body is not good or bad, it is something to be transcended. On the other hand, VEDANTA suggests a direct experience of transcending anything or any non thing as opposed to transformation because there is nothing to be transformed. We are already that oneness, pure consciousness, Brahman, the Absolut. The method of non dualistic VEDANTA is to negate all things or non things , which VEDANTA calls unreal, until one sees nothing, but Brahman, or pure and undifferentiated consciousness. In order to reach the affirmation of oneness, every trace of duality must be rigorously rejected; in other words, VEDANTA asks us to renounce the world of concepts, names and forms. However, this is very easy to say, but more difficult to practice. It is like seeing the political map of the world, we can see many borders dividing the world in many different countries, but in reality, if we observe the world out from space, we do not see those lines/divisions; we see a beautiful round planet mostly blue from its higher content in water. Those divisions do not exist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both major offensives ended up in failure, the Russians abandoned the war, the Italians were close to annihilation after Caporetto, and the Americans sent over troops in small droves that were not battle ready. However, behind the wins of the Triple Alliance, things were not boding well for them. The British blockade was slowly starving them, and Germany s primary ally, Austria Hungary, was more of a liability than a help. Come 1918, Germany knew they needed a big push for the win. Their supplies were rapidly depleting as all efforts to thwart the continuation of Britain s blockade via unrestricted submarine warfare were unsuccessful. • 5. Man s Search For Meaning By Viktor Frankl Introduction Man s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl describes his therapeutic doctrine (pg. 97), logotherapy. Frankl further developed his theory based on his experiences living in the concentration camps during World War II. He shares how this philosophy enabled him to survive the toughest times and find motivation in life. In this paper, I will describe how Man s Search for Meaning provided personal insights for dealing with the stresses of professional school. I will also address the impact of the concentration camps on the prisoners using a biopsychosocial spiritual perspective and how Frankl s challenge to always have a purpose in life can benefit families that are facing a difficult health related diagnosis. Personal insights In logotherapy, Frankl states there are three different ways to find meaning in life, (1) by creating work or doing a deed; (2) by experiencing something or encountering someone; and (3) by the attitude we take toward unavoidable suffering (pg. 111). I realized these three tactics could be relevant to my own life as I take on the challenge of optometry school. Optometry school is a huge commitment and it demands four years of heavy course loads with challenging material. There is evidence that almost 30% of medical students experience symptoms of depression and around 11% have had suicidal thoughts (Rotenstein et al., 2016). I prefer not to become one of these statistics during my time in optometry school. I feel one way to prevent this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bribery can come in many different forms but generally is defined as an act in which something of value is offered, given, received or solicited with the intent of influencing an official act. A conflict of interest occurs when an employee, manager, or executive has an undisclosed economic or personal interest in a transaction that adversely affects the organization. (Wells, 2011, p. 242). • 7. Censorship Of The Media By Herbert Foerstel The British tradition of censoring speech and press to preserve governmental power and dignity stems from the 1275 enactment of De Scandalis Magnatum, which initially imposed penalties for any false talk about the king and later covered such expression about any government officials [Foerstel, 1998: 4] Censorship of the media as described by Herbert Foerstel took shape during the reign of King Edward I. Ever since he made the decision to protect his government from the press the law has continued to evolve, and while the regulations have since loosened to give the media freedom, the idea behind the law remains constant. But can censorship be justified in a period, which by law (Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998) offers the right to freedom of speech and acceptance of opinion and interpretation? Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority regardless of frontiers. During World War One, Bulgaria was an ally of Germany and the big three were not made to either be understanding or open handed to Bulgaria. Following the treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian Army was limited to just 20,000 men and was ordered to pay reparations of £400 million. Under the articles, Thrace (a geographical and historical area in southeast Europe, now split between Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey) was granted to Greece. The newly formed kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of Yugoslavia after 1929) stretched its eastern borders and gained the Macedonian territory. Southern Doruja was also lost to Romania. This treaty was not effective because Bulgaria did not follow it through until 75% was decreased from it. Upon learning of the terms of the Treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian people were furious. In a more perfect world, the production of electronics would that of an ethical process, but it is unfortunately not that case. It all starts with the harvesting of raw materials. • 11. The Refugee Crisis And The Arab Spring The Refugee Crisis Nothing ever stays in the place it stars; everything has a habit of spreading. Throughout history, problems rarely ended in the places they started. Like the plague, Ebola, WWI/II, communism, the Arab spring, and now the Syrian crisis. The Arab Spring was a series of anti government protests, uprisings, and armed rebellions that spread across the Middle East in early 2011. The Arab spring protest against al Assad s Syrian government in the spring of 2011 evolved into an armed conflict between oppositions and government forces in certain cities and then evolved into a civil war. The Syrian civil war caused the large scale diaspora of Syrian citizens, leading to the Syrian refugee crisis. The Syrian refugee crisis led to psychological and physical problems for the refugees and various problems in neighboring host countries, but solutions have been effective so far. The refugee crisis led to physical problems like inadequate accommodation, lack of necessities, and comfort. In addition, Psychological problems, due to trauma that has been suffered and continuing problems with day to day living. Now after the war. they could finally own one. Automobiles of the 1940 s were dull and very plain. This was because designers were too busy designing tanks, planes, etc... for the ongoing war. The major event that took place that changed the way cars looked and how they performed happened on October 14, 1947. This was when Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier. The caddy tail fins continued to grow until they reached there height in 1959 when they were almost as tail as the car itself. As the number of automobiles increased so did the number of road trips that people were going on. All of the traveling motorists needed places to stay. This brought about the development of the motel. Motel combines the words motorist and hotel . By the mid 1950 s the smaller quaint motor lodges of the 30 s and 40 s no longer could compete with rising motel corporations like Howard Johnson or Best Western. These corporations designed their motels to be comfortable and practical for those staying in them. They also built them with a standard design. The catchy facades of the older motels were no longer attracting the customers. Motels also started franchising and referral chains. A referral chain would consist of several motels that form a union and refer customers to the other hotels in the union. Some large franchises that started in the 1950 s were Super 8 and Holiday Inn. These franchises soon spread out all over the country and put the smaller mom and pop motels out of business. With the number of road trips increasing the destinations that they were traveling to were also bringing in more people. These destinations included national parks, family camps, wilderness areas such as the beach and the mountains, and to large cities such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Remote ... Tuberculosis, or more commonly known as TB, is more prominent in developing countries with 80% of Asian and African countries testing positive for tuberculosis (Abbas AK, 2007). India currently has the most cases of TB in the world (World Health Organization, 2009). There are a few types of TB such as common, partial drug resistant and drug resistant. The disease that will be focused on today is common tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is as old as mankind. It was first officially recognised by Hippocrates who described the symptoms of the disease as coughing up blood and weight loss that eventually led to death. In the 16th century a theory was proposed that the disease was transmitted via microorganisms. This was not proven until 1882. In the 1880 s, the chosen way of curing tuberculosis was for the patients to receive clear air, a balanced diet and plenty of rest. This was used not only to treat the patients but to also isolate them. During the 19th century, the spread of the disease slowed as living conditions and hygiene improved. In the 20th century a vaccination was developed as well as antibiotics. This resulted in the disease declining dramatically. While walking around there were so many different types of artwork that I found it hard to decide on which piece to shared about this week. Yoan Capote was born in 1977 and is from Cuba. Yoan Capote creates artwork that poetically captures personal experience and universal issues of power, alienation, isolation and restrictions. Capote works symbolize themes of humanity, studying their interface, representation of physical or sensory possibilities. His artwork Doctrine is a sculpture of a cast bronze chair and steel handcuffs. In his artwork, Doctrine the chair is made of wax pulled out of shape by the addition of real hand cuffs, were then cast into bronze. His art is a 3 D in, which made this piece appear more realistic than a painting. As I stood there looking at a Capote sculpture of the chairs it was obvious that he really wanted everyone to see that he had a story that he was trying to tell by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wethington ITT Technical Institute Unit 2 Assignment 1 Bacterial illness is a result of complex interactions between bacteria and the host. During evolution, humans developed many ways to protect themselves against bacterial pathogens. On the other hand, bacteria have developed strategies to evade, subvert or circumvent these defenses (Sousa, 2003) One of the most important characteristics of bacterial pathogenicity is the various strategies developed by prokaryotic organisms to use host molecules for their own benefit (Sousa, 2003). To accomplish this, bacteria have evolved elaborate control mechanisms to turn genes on and off, varying the transcriptional activator or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the initial phase of infection, environmental strains of P. aeruginosa from any aqueous setting are inadvertently inhaled or otherwise delivered to the upper respiratory tract (Feldman, et al., 1998). It is at this stage where the expression of functional flagella is critical, providing chemotaxis toward desirable substrates, such as mucin, and the motility essential for widespread dissemination (Feldman, et al., 1998). In the normal host, the presence of defenses and additional antimicrobial peptides, the affinity of flagella components for mucin glycopeptides, and the process of mucociliary clearance are likely to eradicate such transiently inhaled organisms from the respiratory tract before any epithelial immune response is elicited (Feldman, et al., 1998). While motility is commonplace among the prokaryotes, it is important to note the variety of structures responsible for motility. These structures vary depending not only on the organism in question, but also on the particular environment (Bardy, Ng, Jarrell, 2003). Study of the bacterial flagellum has provided insights into many aspects of prokaryotic cellular activities including genetics and regulation, physiology, environmental sensing, protein secretion and assembly of complex structures (Bardy, Ng, Jarrell, 2003). Continued study of all prokaryotic motility structures will provide knowledge that is likely to reach far beyond the topic of motility and pathogenicity (Bardy, Ng, ... System Development Life Cycle uses certain principles to assure that systems meet their requirements (DOJ, 2000). These principles impose various degrees of discipline to the process to make it efficient and even predictable. The entire model goes through certain phases of investigation to System Operation. It is matter of personnel choice entirely to develop any model. Each model will suit only particular conditions. • 20. Forelimb Ladder Experiment The purpose of this experiment was to compare rat forelimb preference in the cylinder task and performance on the horizontal ladder task before and after ischemic stroke in the left motor cortex. This demonstrates the behavioural effects of ischemic strokes in localized brain regions, including motor areas. Our results implicate the motor cortex in the production of voluntary movement, and illustrate the effect of neuronal death on this behaviour. These results support our hypotheses, revealing that stroke produces deficits in horizontal ladder task performance and decreases forelimb preference for the limb contralateral to the stroke region. Our results for the horizontal ladder task found that, on the side contralateral to where stroke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also likely that the rat forepaws could not fit through this gap, and that fewer errors were recorded simply due to the close spacing of the rungs. In the 1 Irregular condition, it is possible that compensatory changes in locomotion to the stroke occurred. This is unlikely, however, as the purpose of irregular spacing is to control for post stroke compensation (Metz and Whishaw, 2009). All other ladder conditions showed an increase in paw slip errors post stroke, including the regular patterns. This suggests that rats were unable to compensate behaviourally to the regular patterns post stroke. Regardless, literature shows that compensatory behaviours occur on the horizontal ladder task within a few sessions (Metz and Whishaw, 2002; Metz et al., 2005). However, our rats only performed three trials for each condition on the horizontal ladder over one day. Thus, the compensatory mechanisms may have needed more time to develop in response to stroke. Results from the cylinder task showed a significant increase in left forelimb preference (with a corresponding decrease in right forelimb preference) after ischemic stroke induced in the left motor cortex, supporting our hypothesis. This is most likely due to the stroke in the left forelimb motor area making it difficult to control digit movements, wrist extension, elbow flexion, and shoulder movements for the right limb (Neafsey and Sievert, 1982; Tennant et al., 2011). Therefore, the left forelimb would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Net neutrality means cable companies such as Time Warner Cable and Verizon cannot charge more for faster internet speeds. Which means everybody who uses the internet will have the same speed. Hence the word neutrality. Verizon communication sued the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) saying that they do not have jurisdiction over that subject and limiting speeds is a violation of the First Amendment. The FCC says Net neutrality rules are designed to preserve the internet as an open platform enabling consumer Choice, freedom of expression, and end user control, competition, and the freedom to innovate without permission. This case went to the US court of appeals for the DC circuit. The courts ruled in favor of a Verizon. The reasoning for the decision is that FCC has no authority to apply common carrier obligation like non discrimination and no blocking rules to broadband providers. I agree with this decision. The reason is that the internet should not be like electricity. If you plug your phone into the wall to charge. It s going to have the same amount of current as someone else charging their phone. But what happens if I want to charge my phone faster? I can t because electricity is neutral. But when I go on the internet and I see it is slow. What happens if I want to make it faster? With Net neutrality I could not make it faster. I want the option to make my internet faster. And what happens to large corporations where internet speed is essential to stay in business? The fact of the matter is that the FCC does not have jurisdiction over this matter. Net neutrality should never be passed. It will only hurt the consumer. I believe that some of my strengths in this essay will show that I have written a well developed and explanatory essay that will prove to be true of my analysis of Oedipus s heroism in his words to support my opinions. I know that some of the verses that I quoted form the play can be interpreted differently so I would definitely like to get your take on those quotes that I cited that you feel may have a deeper meaning or interpretation altogether. I also view this as my weakness because of the way that some of the verses are worded or the choice of words used, it was hard for me to understand as it sounded a bit off. I also know that I used a few large sections of quotes which I made up for in my in my word count. Tamara McDowney In the play Oedipus Tyrannous by Sophocles; I viewed Oedipus as a Tragic Hero. The reason I view Oedipus as a tragic hero is because a tragic hero is determined to be a character in a play with power or of royalty whose decisions or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Erving Goffman s Essay Footing In simple terms, footing is what your stance in a conversation is. Erving Goffman, author of Forms of Talk, writes an essay titled Footing. In this essay, Goffman introduces a story of president Nixon and an interviewer in which the president in a way changes her occupation from a reporter to a housewife. By talking to her in a nonprofessional way and demeaning her from her job status, to referring to her as a woman that would look good in a dress, he is changing her footing in this environment and conversation. Goffman, himself has defined a change in footing: A change in footing implies a change in alignment we take up to ourselves and the others present as expressed in the way we manage the production or reception of an utterance, (Goffman 1981:128). In our daily lives with our normal conversations, we may not take a step back and analyze every move we make or the choice of words we use. This past week I have been thinking about what Goffman has written about footing and have analyzed a few conversations and interactions with myself.
