Hurricane Andrew Research Papers
The sound of the wind, that s what you never forget. The initial whisper. The growing mewing that
turns into a howl. Then they cry of glass shattering. The grumbling of a roof peeling apart , said Ana
Veciana Suarez, as she remembers one of the worst, fiercest, and most powerful storm to hit South
Florida, Hurricane Andrew. On August 24, 1992, Category 5 Hurricane Andrew came through and
devastated South Florida turning its full forces on Miami Dade county. The aftermath of this hurricane
was completely unbelievable and devastating, being that it was the most high priced storm ever
recorded in United States History. Rebuilding the community took several years and even after
everything was rebuilt, citizens of South Florida, would never forget Hurricane Andrew.
As many know, hurricanes are considered to be among the most powerful forces in nature. A hurricane
is a powerful storm system that produces intense winds and heavy rainfall. Hurricanes form over
warm ocean water during warm months such as June, July, and August which is known as the ... Show

If I would have known that this storm was coming that bad, I would have left, she said in a laughing
manner. As she continued to speak, she talked about how they prepared for Hurricane Andrew. We
went out and brought cold cuts, flashlights, candles, we even tied down everything on our back porch
and whatever we could not tie down, went in our shed. I thought we prepared more than enough, but
we didn t. We prepared just enough. She explained how the storm was furious, how it was very
powerful and dangerous. When I asked Mrs. Brown was there any damage done to her house, she said
yes. Our big avocado tree that has been there for almost 25 years, fell and hit our back porch and or
kitchen window cracked. Other than that, everything else was

Product Life Cycle ( Plc )
Product Life Cycle (PLC) Introduction: A new product goes through a set of different stages said to be
product life cycle. The product life cycle proceeds through multiple phases, involves many
professional disciplines, and requires many skills, tools and processes. By explaining the product life
cycle stages, we clearly define the phase, each with its own characteristics that will have different
impact on each reader depending on their particular situation. We discuss introduction, growth,
maturity and decline. Once the product is designed and put into the market, the offering should be
managed efficiently for the buyers to get value from it. Before entering into any market complete
analysis is carried out by the industry for both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boom is on. This is the beginning of Stage 2 the market growth stage. At this point potential
competitors who have been watching developments during Stage I jump into the fray. The first ones to
get in are generally those with an exceptionally effective used apple policy. Some enter the market
with carbon copies of the originator s product. Others make functional and design improvements. And
at this point product and brand differentiation begin to develop. The ensuing fight for the consumer s
patronage poses to the originating producing an entirely new set of problems. Instead of seeking ways
of getting consumers to try the product, the originator now faces the more compelling problem of
getting them to prefer his brand. This generally requires important changes in marketing strategies and
methods. But the policies and tactics now adopted will be neither freely the sole choice of the
originating producer, nor as experimental as they might have been during Stage I. The presence of
competitors, both dictates and limits what can easily be tried such as, for example, testing what is the
best price level or the best channel of distribution. As the rate of consumer acceptance accelerates, it
generally becomes increasingly easy to open new distribution channels and retail outlets. The
consequent filling of distribution pipelines generally causes the entire industry s factory sales to rise
more rapidly than store sales. This creates an

Heroes In Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell
Heroes can be explained in many different ways. Heroes can be said to have specific features like
being ultimately stronger than everyone else, being able to use special powers to defeat their enemy,
or just being able to accomplish something that they themselves or other people thought that they
could never do. Through many years of studying different cultures and their historic myth, people are
able to come up with a theory on how many of the myths complete their heroic cycle.
Joseph Campbell has spent many years studying different cultures and their myths in order to find out
the true qualities of a hero. In the series Power of Myth where he sits down and talks about his
experiences with other cultures and different types of myth, he explains ... Show more content on

A hero can be at the burning house physically helping put out the fire, down the street putting their life
on the line to catch the convict, or in the closest church spreading the word of their religion and how it
has affect their life. Everywhere you go you can always find a hero nearby. The one that is like family
to me that I consider a hero is my elementary teacher. She is there for anyone at any time. Starting at a
young age, she was not always the best or brightest person around. She has told stories of the things
that she has done and the trouble that she and her friends use to cause. In her late teens she decided
this would not be the type of person that she wanted to be and decided to change the way that she was
behaving. She started going to church and found programs that helped her change her way. After a
while she started to reach out to her old friends and eventually got a few of them to change with her.
After a while of this she decided she needed to help more people and more families and not just the
friends and family that she knows best. She started to go to college and became a teacher that way
every year she could help out at least another twenty kids and their families. For the past 48 years she
has continuously helped out these families year after year. She has also reached out even farther and
has helped children out by being a foster parent. Almost every year she would be given a child or two
and has had to raise the kid for the year until someone was able to properly give them a home. Many
of these children had mental problems from being switched in and out of homes and once she got
them she was able to fully understand them and help them out tremendously, then after a couple
months they were able to find a permanent home where she would send them and then get her next
child. Time after time this was done and she has help more than a dozen children get through this and

Mummification In Egyptian Mythology
A dark room with quiet voices chanting sacred incantations. Four jars rest upon a table, now full. The
smell of chemicals lingers in the air, and men lean over a form covered in linen. The stillness in the air
is palpable; all is silent except for the praying. Extravagant items, precious jewels, and coins litter the
table next to the form. These treasured objects will soon be with the dead around the sarcophagus.
After the mummification is finished, the body will be transported into a pyramidal tomb where the
spirit will travel to the Afterlife with his possessions. All of these steps were a part of the holy rite to
help the deceased on his journey. If one step was done incorrectly, the embalming would be for
nothing. The process of mummification ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an accurate representation of Osiris: the King of the Dead. In Egyptian mythology, Osiris was
killed and cut apart by his brother, Seth, but put back together by Isis, the sister and wife of Osiris.
(Ikram and Dodson 103). He was then embalmed and mummified by Anubis, the God of
Mummification. Osiris was the first mummy and represented rebirth. The process of mummification
took place over three thousand years and came to a close at the start of the Christian era (Ikram and
Dodson 120). The words mummy and mummification are from the Persian word, bitumen, which has
to do with resin and pitch, or unrefined oil (Dictionary.com). This definition makes sense since resin
was used to secure the linens onto the body. The first mummies were unintentional. These ancient
Egyptians were buried in the fetal position, thrown into shallow graves in the sand with only religious
items (Brier 15). The desert sand and dry air naturally preserved the bodies, and the Egyptians
discovered that the human remains were preserved when the bodies were uncovered by the sand or
wild dogs dug them up. The Egyptians then developed a method to preserve the bodies of kings,
queens, and

Blast and Vorticism Magazines
Blast is a key literary magazine of the English avant garde, published during 1914 and 1915. Although
founded by Wyndham Lewis, Ezra Pound holds an important post of assisting Lewis with the
publishing of the magazine, dealing with its main theme of Vorticism. Not only this, but Pounds
involvement with Imagism prior to the publication of Blast plays an influence in the way literature is
evidently shaped and associated within the magazine. With themes of Cubism and Futurism also being
evident in the magazine; emphasises the focus on providing a magazine which prides itself in
producing literature rich in artistic detail to the themes of its time. Although images and layout are a
key factor in emphasising these themes, it is the content for example poems within the magazine
relating to Vorticism, that is new in which it focuses on locating the movement and stillness within the
image .
Blast and Vorticism s roots are said to lie and be based on Pounds history with Imagism in literature,
particularly poetry, and Cubism and Futurism in arts . With Pound forming the group Imagism based
on similarly discovering new philosophies of thought and experimenting with new changes in verse
form , he was in constant pursuit for literary advancement. With the group founded in 1912, by 1914
Pound assisted Lewis in the production of Blast. With inspiration coming from Imagism s objectivity,
efficiency and creativity , Pound further strived for a style of writing in poetry which suggested

Advanced Practice Nurse Implications. Spiritual Assessment
Advanced Practice Nurse Implications
Spiritual assessment and care of a patient at each medical or psychiatric appointment is an essential
aspect of providing adequate care by all NPs. To be able to do so, NP must understand that spirituality
and religiosity are not synonymous. Unlike the concept of religion, which defined by the online
Oxford dictionary (2017) as The belief in a worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a
personal God or gods, spirituality holds various definitions depending on whom you ask. According to
Taylor (2002; who credits Reed [1992]) ...spirituality refers to that part of being human that seeks

possible to identify, or grasp, in its entirety the phenomenon of humility (p. 578). Equally, Castledine
(2011) states, The trouble with humility is that it is a very humble virtue to have and one that cannot
be easily rated in the same way as other values in life (p. 527). Likewise, Srokosz (2013) suggests,
humility is difficult to define and a clear scientific understanding of humility does not exist yet (p.
103). Similarly, Crigger and Godfrey (2010) review of literature offer two reasons for the lack of
scholarly interests in humility : (a) original meaning of the term humble, narrow sense of having a low
estimation of one s self and being of little value, the notion of humility conflicts with modern
conceptions of the self and (b) its religious affiliation may also dampen the benefit of acquiring or
nursing humility, particularly in the US culture... (p. 311 312).
Notwithstanding, de Vries (2004) examined humility by applying qualitative approach in order to
explore the following two objectives: (a) To describe how washing feet is a participatory experience,
and (b) To describe how the experience of washing feet can change the relationship between nurse and
patient (p. 580). Utilizing a sample size of seven post registered nurses as participants de Vries

Mexico is a country that is located in North America. Mexico is a country that has major problems
with its military and Government. It also has major problems with organised crime and drug
trafficking. It has many cases and reports of abuses of the Human Rights. Mexico also faces many
problems for its future and has a lot of problems to tackle.

3.4 LABOUR RIGHTS
In Mexico the Unions and the government are corrupt and work together. The government has made it
easier for the employer to fire someone for very little reason or for just striking over the poor labour
conditions or pay. So in Mexico the Labour rights is almost non existent.
3.5 MILITARY ABUSES
In Mexico the military is used a lot for fighting crimes drug related that are violent. The military has
committed strong violations against the human rights though while enforcing the law. From 2007
November 2012 109 cases have been found where the Mexican army has committed serious Human
Rights violations. Although the military is making violations against the Human Rights they are not
being bought to justice.
3.6 UNFAIR TRIALS
There are many cases of unfair trials in Mexico. This is because the country is very bias and lives by
the army. The army get away with a lot of things that they shouldn t and keep doing so because they
are not punished when they do.
4.0 ATTEMPTS AND PROGRESS TO STOP THESE VIOLATIONS

How Millercoors Creates Up Porter s Five Forces
The fourth force that makes up Porter s Five Forces is the bargaining power of buyers. For
MillerCoors specifically, the main buyers are distributors. The distributor controls the price by setting
it on profit margins. In addition, distributors are consolidating and increasing in power. For example,
in 1970 there were 5,000 distributors; today there are only 2,500 distributors. The distributors are also
eliminating new competition. Two examples of this are how MillerCoors puts pressure on itself to
carry its own brand and how there are more and more regulations on beer. Because of these reasons,
there is more power to current distributors than there was in the past.
The fifth and final force is the threat of new entry. One of the ... Show more content on

Some of the weaknesses that I could think of are that the company has one very large competitor that
represents 50 percent of the market share instead of several semi large competitors, so gaining the
majority of the market share is a difficult task. The second weakness is that the beer brewing industry
has slow industry growth, while the wine industry is growing much more rapidly. In terms of
opportunities and threats, MillerCoors has several opportunities that it could capitalize on. The
opportunities that stand out to me are the foreign market explosive growth, financial markets,
innovation, and increasing the awareness of sustainability issues among consumers and employees. If
MillerCoors took advantage of these opportunities, it would find great success in several different
realms of the competitive market. As far as threats go, there are three main ones that face MillerCoors.
The first one is the competition that the company faces, the second one is the overall falling beer
consumption that is happening worldwide, and the third one is the growing popularity of
microbreweries and craft beer. These threats can also be seen as opportunities, though, such as homing
in on the creation of more microbreweries in its market to keep up with the growing popularity and

Comparing Attentional Capture By Rare And Constant, Novel,...
Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant, Novel, Sudden Onset Stimuli
Samuel Tong (450472150)
ABSTRACT
Novel and rare sudden onset stimuli are known to attract attention in different situations. Previously
Yantis Jonides (1990) have shown novel sudden onsets capture attention mainly when attention is
diffuse, and Neo Chua (2006) have shown rare sudden onsets capture attention so long as attention is
not already pre deployed to a stationary target. The current study aims to examine the interaction
between rarity of a novel, sudden onset and attention pre deployment by cues or stationary targets, and
how this interaction affects the attentional capture of novel sudden onsets. In doing so, a better
understanding of how these stimuli affect attentional processes may be established. Based upon the
experimental findings, it is proposed that when a sudden onset stimulus is both rare and novel, the
attentional capture processes when perceiving these stimuli are influenced by perceptual load and
modes of attention. Implications of these findings are discussed further in the paper.
Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant Novel Sudden Onset Stimuli
Attentional capture is controlled by top down, goal orientated processes, or by bottom up, stimulus
orientated processes (Wolfe, 1994, as cited by Emerson Kramer, 1997). Stimuli that appear suddenly,
or sudden onset stimuli, are known to attract attention in a bottom up fashion (Donderi, Zelnicker

Minorities Affected By Civil And Equal Rights
Minorities Affected by Civil and Equal Rights The Times They Are A Changin is a lyrical poem
written by Bob Dylan. The Fear of Losing a Culture is an auto biographical essay written by Richard
Rodriguez. Both of these literary works have a shared theme of change and social conflict. However,
both works were written at different times in history. There are similarities as well as differences
between the two works. The shared theme of change for these two works is the change that is taking
place in America concerning black Americans and civil rights in The Times They Are A Changin and
Latin Americans and equal rights in The Fear of Losing a Culture . Both authors wrote about the
changes that were taking place in America regarding cultures. Cultures have changed throughout the
years and different cultures should be embraced by the American public. The Times They Are A

The Intervention Plan By Hofstede s Intervention Plan
The Intervention plan, written for the board of directors of Bank X, consists of two parts. The first part
includes a diagnosis of information which define the core issues that should be addressed, and
secondly provide a fitting intervention plan to guide Bank X into the right direction.
The board presented a set of problems, what we should solve, the most concerning are the lack of
loyalty among the employees and the lack of honesty of the Bank towards its environment. We used
two diagnostic approaches to reach the core of the problems Bank X faces, the Onion model invented
by Hofstede, which help us to understand the different layers of the culture in the bank and the
Behaviour approach model, which aims to present a clear summary of the behaviour of your
colleagues. The diagnosed core issue, the outcome of the analysis, is related to the organizational
culture of Bank X. This connection ultimately leads to the question: How can the management of
Bank X overcome these cultural oracles concerning their lack of loyalty, which mainly results because
of the high fluctuation, the high risk taking of the employees and their self interest and on the other
hand, the lack of honesty? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Justice In The Odyssey
As Mahatma Gandhi once noted astutely, An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Gandhi s
assertion challenges this moral code established in both the Odyssey and the Old Testament, just as
Aeschylus challenges the validity of vendetta as a successful technique for maintaining societal order
in his Oresteia trilogy. The revenge ethic plays a key role in the story because it makes justice the
personal responsibility of the person insulted; the killer must be killed, and the act of retribution must
be carried out by the most appropriate person preferably a close blood relative. It is a radically
straightforward basis for justice, linking retribution to the family and its collective honor. Like the
storied blood feud between the Hatfields ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

College Is The Time Of Your Life
Haakon Lovestad Dr. Van Bergen Rylander 24 Nov. 2104 Every once in a while, one comes across the
saying college is the time of your life , true enough, every person who has had the opportunity to
attend college, regularly reminisces about the time they had. In all fairness, the time in college is
indeed memorable. The reason as to why even Hollywood regularly releases movies with a theme and
setting of college. What these movies inevitably end up doing is glamorizing the all things to do with
college other than actually studying. In fact, in most instances, these movies glamorize parties, casual
sex, drinking binges and use of drugs. To the high school teenager with raving hormones, this is a
place to look forward to, which is if it ends up motivating them to the quests of higher grades.
Nevertheless, parents and other stakeholders more so in the department of health are regularly
wondering what exactly the place of sex in college is. (Bruce and Stewart) It is worth it to analyze the
whole issue of sex with an open mind. The reason for this is that external influences cloud the
perception of most regarding the topic of sex in relation to college. Society encourages modesty in
matters relating to sex, ironically, the media is awash with sex if not explicitly, it is implicit. However,
the common denominator to all this is the ever willingness of college girls to engage in sexual activity
in a rather casual and care free manner. Therefore, it is within prudence to assume

The House Of Lords Outlook Regarding The Doctrine Of...
The House of Lords outlook concerning the doctrine of precedent is reflected in Lord Woolf s
statement in the case of R v Simpson [2003] . The excerpt brings up the practice of the courts, and
how the rules of precedent had to be applied bearing in mind that their objective was to assist in the
administration of justice , as well as precedential certainty and flexibility. The dicta used in his lengthy
statement leaves space for discussion, such as; the precedent assisting the administration of justice, the
appropriate degree of certainty that precedent carries. There is also room for examination as to just
how far flexibility in precedent serves a positive purpose to meet contemporary needs.
The first point of discussion stems from the objective of precedent to assist in the administration of
justice . Being a key component of the common law legal system, precedent is based on stare decisis,
which is Latin for to stand by things decided , and is the first rule of precedent . It refers to policy of
the court to abide by rulings set by decisions made in previous cases. This involves the ratio
decidendi, which is the basis of binding precedent because it stands as the reasoning behind a ruling.
Without this, the doctrine of precedent would be unable to operate. Parts of the judgment that do not
form the ratio are referred to as obiter dicta, and are merely persuasive precedent. The second rule of
precedent is in relation to court hierarchy . An integral part of the

Round Trampoline Research Paper
Meta Description:
Trampoline is an equipment made of strong, stretched cloth over a solid frame made of steel or iron
using some coiled springs to connect. People jump on trampolines for fun and sometimes even as a
competitive game. A question quite often in mind that arises is Which one should someone get a
rectangular or a round trampoline?
Introduction
While trampolining is widely known to be a recreational activity there are other benefits of this
activity. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) in a study found that jumping on a trampoline was
more useful exercise than biking, running and also Frisbee. People rated this to be an easier workout
although it has the benefits of a vigorous workout. This is because of the fact that when ... Show more

But according to research, more than 80% of the accidents happen because of the absence of an
enclosure. This enclosure is a mesh screen, fixed around the trampoline which prevents the user
getting too close to the edge. Also, checking the trampoline mat for any cuts and if trampoline springs
are firmly attached to the mat always helps to be safe.
Weight Limit:
Maximum weight supported by a round trampoline is 400 pounds, whereas for rectangular trampoline
it is 450 pounds. Round trampoline supports only one jumper at a time.
Cost Factor:
Round trampolines are cheaper and readily available in the market.
Bounce experience and Altitude of Jump:
Bounce experience and height are higher for rectangular trampoline due to more space for takeoff.
Conclusion:
Rectangular trampoline is more suitable for training purposes while round one is most appropriate for
refreshment activities. Round trampoline is affordable and more efficient when safety factor is
considered. If you want a bigger bounce, a rectangular trampoline is more suitable, but it should be
kept in mind that it comes with an expense of higher

Discover Your Strength And Execute
Discover your Strength and Execute We live in a world, where people are busy focusing on each other
s weak spots. Today s societies are revolving around fixing our weakness rather than focusing on our
strength (Rath, 2007). According to research, it has been discovered that people progress more when
they invest their energy to build their strength rather than fixing their weakness (Rath, 2007). Gallup,
the writer of the book says the book strengths finder actually measures our talent, not strength because
the goal is to help us find our true talents and build them as our strength (Rath, 2007). In the book
strengths finder 2.0, the writer talks about 34 most common talents which help us find the areas where
we have the greatest capacity to develop our strengths (Rath, 2007). All 34 themes can be our greatest
strength if we apply in a right way in right time. In this paper, I will be talking about mainly three
strengths that I chose from the book to apply in nursing career as well as in my daily life practice.
Three talents that will help build our strengths are focus, empathy and responsibility. Focus, is when
we set goals, we must stay on track with timelines and measurements (Rath, 2007). Because, staying
focused is very important as a leader in order to achieve our goal. Staying focused means we need to
set a clear destination because focus is a powerful theme where it helps us to filter our goal and
instinctively make us to decide whether that action will

Expectations Of Women In The 19th Century
An Insight into the Expectations of a 19th Century Woman Since the beginning of time, women have
been considered the weaker sex. During the nineteenth century, women were considered illogical and
vulnerable. Women could not partake in employment opportunities and they could not vote. Men
believed that women were the mentally and physically insuperior gender, therefore women were not
considered equal to men. In opposition to this exhausted belief, women are now seen as strong and
influential individuals. In modern time, females have the rights of voting, attaining jobs, and living the
same traditional lives that the majority of males have always pursued. In the short story The Birthmark
by Nathaniel Hawthorne, one can see how Georgiana can be considered a submissive, passive, and
dependent wife to Aylmer. Georgiana was the epitome of an average nineteenth century woman and
followed the rules that society had laid for all matrons. Additionally, Georgiana was a dedicated wife
who yearned to please her husband. Aylmer was the dominant and outspoken figure in their household
whilst Georgiana was the meek and accommodating shadow. Therefore, according to nineteenth
century standards, Georgiana succeeds as a wife to Aylmer. Considering that women during this era
were seen as physically weaker than men, their bodies were also classified as their husband s property.

Impact Of Physical Geography
Impact of Physical Geography and Development: Physical geography plays a significant part in the
development and success of different people and countries. A country s location can greatly affect how
that country does economically. For example, country s near water typically do better economically
than landlocked because water unlocks more trade opportunities. However, some landlocked countries
can still do well because of it s neighboring countries that may be located near water. Another example
is the type of environment you re located in. People in countries with a more agricultural based
environment will live very differently than a country surrounded by desert that may focus on oil or
minerals. Yet, some countries, like the U.S, are so big that they have many different climates,
ecosystems, and environments; allowing for many different types of ways to make money, trade, and
live. A countires location can also affect how people live. Anything from climate to where the country
is located compared to the equator can completely determine how someone lives. A place with a rainy
climate that may rely on industry will be completely different that one with a more mild climate that
relies on agriculture. A countires location from the equator will also drastically affect how people live.
A country like Brazil that is right next to the equator will focus their industries on different things than
a country like Russia, who is far away from the equator, will rely on different types of industries. A
country s location can also determine how it is affected by natural disasters. For example, Thailand has
a risk of tsunamis, California is greatly affected by earthquakes, and places like Hawaii are affected by
volcanos. All of those things can affect a country s economy and development.
Core Periphery Model or World Systems Theory: In The Power of Place Harm De Blij divides the
world into two parts; the core and periphery. Core countries are often successful economically, have a
dominant military, and have overall better health. Periphery countries are often poor, don t have much
power, have more diseases and overall worse health, and low standards of living. Global cores are
places like the U.S.A, China,

Poetry Analysis of Introduction to Poetry
Poetry analysis of Introduction to Poetry
The Poem Introduction to Poetry is by Billy Collins, an English poet, and it is about how teachers
often force students to over analyze poetry and to try decipher every possible meaning portrayed
throughout the poem rather than allowing the students to form their own interpretation of the poem
based on their own experiences.
Throughout the poem, a number of literary devices are used. For example: or press an ear against its
hive . Using this metaphor, Billy Collins is comparing the body of a poem to the hive of a bee. The
hive of a bee appears to be something dangerous and unknown, just like a new poem, never before
seen, with which one is unfamiliar. Using this metaphor, Billy Collins is ... Show more content on

This is an effective metaphor as water skiing brings about a great sense of joy and is fun, just as
reading a poem in Billy Collins opinion should be.
The use of onomatopoeic devices and onomatopoeic words are abundant in this poem. For instance, I
say drop a mouse into a poem is a line whereby the word drop , a very onomatopoeic word, effectively
suggests that the reader of a poem must gently analyze a poem. This is portrayed through the gentle p
sound of the word and this is therefore effective as the reader gets a sense of the gentleness Billy
Collins wishes his readers had when it comes to analyzing poetry.
The fact that enjambment is used throughout the poem such as in the lines, like a colour slide or press
an ear against its hive portrays a lack of structure and therefore emphasizes the initial enjoyment one
feels when reading a poem before the chore of analyzing it begins. This is also emphasized through
the fact that the poem is a free verse poem.
The poem suddenly becomes much darker in the last stanza and a Billy Collins explains how teachers,
students or general readers of poetry torture a poem by being what he believes is cruelly analytical. He
says, all they want to do is tie the poem to a chair with rope and torture a confession out of it . Here,
the poem is being personified yet again and this brings about an almost human connection between the
reader and the poem. This use of personification is effective as it makes the

1984
In the face of pain there are no heroes George Orwell s 1984 is a brilliant commentary on the dangers
of totalitarianism, mind control, technology and both physical and psychological manipulation. The
novel s protagonist, Winston Smith, is a very pensive and curious man. He is desperate to uncover the
roots behind the twisted caste system that has been set in place by an organization called the Party.
The Party demonstrates absolute control over every aspect of life in Oceania (formerly London). They
are a totalitarian organization using language as a mind control device as well as psychological and
physical intimidation and manipulation in order to keep its citizens, or effectively its slaves, in line.
One thing always holds true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He goes to unbelievable lengths in order to rebel against the Party. He commits various crimes
throughout the book ranging from simply writing, Down with Big Brother in is illegal diary to having
a forbidden love affair with a woman named Julia and everything in between. He even gets himself
accepted into the anti Party brotherhood. However, it is only through the great efforts that Winston
goes through carrying out his rebellion that the true effect of the power of the party can be seen. The
beginning of the parties control stems from their ability to use language as a mind control device. In
Oceania, if you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself. The Party implements a
new language called Newspeak which simply eliminates any potentially disloyal words from the
vocabulary. Orwell uses this to illustrate the point that language is the most crucial part in the
generation of unique and original human thought. Without language, the formation of thought is
nearly impossible. Even the conceptualization of an idea questioning the Party s absolute power is
made impossible by Newspeak. Therein lies another issue; once the Party controls language they have
the ability to exercise psychological and physical intimidation and manipulation over the society.
Winston comes to a terrifying realization, nothing is worse than physical pain, for after all, how do we
know that two and two make four? Or, that they force of gravity works? Or that they

Staphylococcus Aureus ( S. Aureus
Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a spherical bacteria which is known to produce a
cytotoxin called Panton Valentine leucocidin (PLV) which destroys leukocytes, and kills tissue (Lina
et al., 1999). Five percent of strains of Staphylococcus are known to produce the disease causing toxin
(Lina et al., 1999), but though the amount of PLV producing strains is somewhat small, the strains
which produce PLV are apparently resistant to vancomycin, an antibiotic commonly used to treat staph
infections (CDC, 2002). The first recorded case of S. aureus resistance to vancomycin was a reduction
in sensitivity to the antibiotic observed in Japan, and has since spread to the United States (CDC,
2002). The most common source of infection of these drug resistant bacteria are actually in hospitals,
wherein the patients are exposed to the bacteria and subsequently infected (CDC, 2002). Because of
this rise of selection for vancomycin resistant bacteria, finding an alternative antibiotic treatment for
this strain of bacteria is imperative. There has been some consideration of alternatives to vancomycin
treatment of bacteria as sensitivity toward the drug decreases. Though vancomycin is still the
treatment standard for methicillin resistant bacteria, other compounds such as linezolid have proven to
be more effective. Linezolid is a currently FDA approved compound that disrupts protein synthesis in
the ribosomes of bacteria. The result of this disruption is

The Walking Dead is a horror/drama television series based on the comics written by Robert Kirkman.
This is a show about the rest of the world trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. But, is there more
to this series than just the blood, gore, and death? Yes, it seems there truly is more to this series. The
Walking Dead is about many things including: family, friendship, love, forgiveness, and learning who
to trust, it s not just filled with horror as some may believe. Rick, one of the main characters, quickly
learns that he has been betrayed by his own wife and best friend. This is where the plot thickens and

their family. What do they do now that the one they ve lost has turned into a zombie? They must kill
them of course. Some see an act to keep themselves alive, and I absolutely agree, but a true fan can
put themselves in their shoes and realize that they only want the best for their family. To keep them
from being this horrible creature they must kill them, and they do it out of love. By doing this they get
the chance to grieve and give this person a proper burial, well as proper as it can be in this life. This
family keeps going no matter what. They lose people, but they also meet new people. At times, they
find this shocking to learn they are not the only people left. It seems like if you found another living

Summary Of One Night Two Proms
One night, Two Proms. In the town of Charleston, Mississippi they lived in the past of what we tried

the other for whites or african americans, but only african americans showed up. After some
arranging, the high school was able to finally have an integrated senior prom in 2008. This
documentary affected me in both a positive and negative way. During the documentary, I was in
disbelief that things like this still are happening around the world, let alone the United States. My faith
in how good and the equality humanity decreased immensely after watching this movie. I was aware

Essay about The Debate Over Truman s Use of the Atomic Bombs
On August 7, 1945 the headline of the front page of the New York Times read: First Atomic Bomb
Dropped on Japan; Missile is Equal to 20,000 Tons of TNT: Truman Warns Foe of a Rain of Ruin. 1
Now the debate between historians on the question of whether Truman s decision to use the atomic
bomb was correct or not had begun. There are critics and historians who say that Japan was already
beat and that the war could have ended by negotiations. In their opinions because Germany had
surrendered, the Imperial Navy was driven from the sea by the Pacific Fleet, Okinawa and Iwo Jima
were in our hands and because Japan was cut off from resources from the Indies, they believe Japan

An answer to the problem had been handed to Truman by Secretary of War, Henry L. Stimson when
he asked to speak to the President about an urgent matter. Truman wrote in his Memoirs: Stimson told
me that he wanted me to know about an immense project that was under way a project looking to the
development of a new explosive of almost unbelievable destructive power.5 Only a handful of people
knew about the bomb or the research on the use of atomic energy for military purposes. Now Truman
had been informed about the best kept secret of World War II. Truman s military advisers were
working on ways to end the war. One of their plans was an invasion of Japan. On June 18th the
President met with his military advisers who recommended an invasion of Kyushu. The operation
would be enormous with an estimate of 31,000 casualties in the first thirty days.6 A report by the Joint
War Plans Committee estimated that the invasion would cost approximately 4,000 dead, 150,000
wounded, and 3,500 missing in action for a total of 193,000 casualties.7 Truman did not like the high
numbers of casualties that the invasion was reported to bring. He had Secretary Stimson to head up a
committee of top men to study the implications that the atomic bomb would have for the United
States. On June 1, the committee brought their recommendation to Truman. They recommended that

Hampton Roads area from before the turn of the 20th century under the operation of several different
railway companies. From the 1920 s to through the 1940 s buses gradually replaced the streetcars.
Extending the Tide to Virginia Beach would improve the overall transportation network. The project
will also help foster the growth of transit oriented development and extending the light rail will also
keep the door open for consideration of future transit expansion. Some of the benefits of the expansion
will include better transportation into the city, and provide a better energy source and better air quality
and an increase in tourist attractions. The Commonwealth of Virginia s Department of Rail Public
Transportation is studying possible extensions to The Tide in several different directions within the
multi city Hampton Roads area (HRT 3).
Hampton Roads Transit, the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization, and local cities
are exploring extensions of the starter line. Possible extensions might run north to the Norfolk Naval
Base, east to the Virginia Beach oceanfront and resort area, west of Portsmouth, and south of

John Proctor s Confession In The Crucible
The Crucible Essay
Towards the ending of the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor shreds his confession he
signed to prevent himself from hanging. He chose to do this to save the names of the innocent people
who were unlucky enough to be named, and who chose to be honest. Throughout his life, Proctor has
made mistakes, however, he is a good man who tries to repair the damages he caused. He shreds his
confession, berates himself for the evil sin he committed, and he does his best to fix what he
destroyed.
Proctor is a man who feels guilty for the wrongs he has done to others. Humans aren t infallible, and
all can attest to this. Proctor is no exception to this simple fact of life. Even his wife, who has been

He refuses to hand the paper over, which he knows Governor Danforth will nail to the church door.
This will appear to condemn those innocents who were killed for an accused crime. Proctor yells to
Danforth, who is still trying to convince John Proctor to give the confession to him, that, God does not
need my name nailed upon the church! ... It is enough! (Act IV. 695 697). Proctor knows Danforth will
use his confession as evidence to incriminate, to blacken, to degrade the names of his friends who died
for honesty. Proctor denies him this simple request, but Danforth attempts to ask a question. Before he
can complete a full sentence, Proctor cries out, Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another
in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them
that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name! (Act IV.
725 730)
John Proctor knows he is the one who needs to forgive himself. He has tried to appeal to Elizabeth,
confessing to his sins in front of the court, and even sacrifices himself to save his friends names.
Throughout this whole encounter, Proctor still doesn t believe he deserves to be forgiven, which is
obvious by his actions. Proctor is a good man, and to prove this he rips up his confession to save
others which, in the process, regains the goodness he lost when he

Annotation Of Langston Hughes Weary Blues
Langston Hughes the writer of this poem. He was born February 1, 1902, he died on May 22, 1967.
He grew up in Joplin, Missouri. There are a few interesting things that caught my eye as I was reading
about him, like he was raised by his grandmother, he started to have an interest in poetry in Lincoln,
he was working as a seaman at one point of time in his life, the poem Weary Blues was his first book,
he made his first novel in 1930, and last but not least he won a Harmon gold medal for literature. The
poem Weary Blues was published by him in 1926. Now here we go with the poem Weary Blues. It
only has one staza, that s it just one stanza. Since its only one stanza I found things within the lines
such as in lines one, two, four, and five they all have ten syllables. The poem does have a little bit of a
rhyme but there is no actual set rhyme scheme. The poem have a couple of repetition lines like, in the
poem he said he did a lazy sway.... He did a lazy sway..... which was showing that the man was
showing a type of interest in the music that was playing. Also there is another repetition which is O
Blues! but they are not back to back he just said that word about three times throughout the poem.

The type of figurative language that is happening is similes and onomatopoeia. Here is an example of
both the simile and the onomatopoeia that I spotted in the story. In lines 35 it says he slept like a rock

on line 23 it says Thump, thump, thump, went his foot on the floor which is showing a meaning of
him really getting interested into the music as the person plays it. The allegory of the poem is that he
wants people to know that there is a deeper meaning to the song that is playing at the moment of the

How The Environment Affects A Person And Many Places
Places have a lot of significance tied to them depending on what they mean to people. The place that I
am going to talk about in this paper reminds me of a peaceful place, because it has provided me with
comfort and has allowed me to grow within this calm place. Oxford Dictionary defines place as A
building or area used for a specified purpose or activity: the town has many excellent eating places .
Specific memories link with certain places that individuals go to, and have had them shape them into
who they are, or have guided them into having a better understanding with what brings them peace. It
has been shown that places actually do bring a certain emotion or feeling onto a person, almost like an
extra sense. Modern science is confirming that people s thoughts, feelings and actions are indeed
shaped not by just their genes and neurochemistry, history and relationships but also by their
surroundings. How the environment affects a person and several places that are considered by some
cultures to be sacred and discussed. (Gallagher, 1993, p. 62)
A place that has an importance to me is the park behind Parkwood hospital. It has a field with
beautiful flowers that you can admire all day long, and there are also walkways with a tiny waterfall
followed with a couple of benches to be able to sit down and admire the scenery. On the other side of
it, there are picnic tables and areas for families to come together and spend time with each other while

course Professor Weaver s ecotourism book is used as the textbook, and in light of this course we
became interested in sustainability and ecotourism in the first place. Luckily, he was teaching at the
university we did our exchange semester at, and due to that we got the opportunity to interview him in
person for this bachelor thesis. As already mentioned, the research question for this bachelor thesis is
about how GBR can be seen as a sustainable destination. To figure this out, it is important to
understand how tourism or visitors affect the GBR. During the interview with Weaver, he expresses
himself about climate change, chemical waste, tourism impacts, global warming, etc. According to
Weaver, tourism impacts includes that the good outcomes overwhelmed the negative impacts in GBR.

Astronomy Camp Slam! I shut the car door behind me. This would be the first year on my own, away
from my home and my family. I set my feet on the rough, yet new looking gravel road and let out a

Burning Down The House By Neil Bernstein
Burning Down the House Review
America s answer for dealing with crime prevention is locking up adult offenders in correctional
facilities with little rehabilitation for reentry into society. American response for crime prevention for
juvenile s offenders is the same strategy used against adult offenders taken juvenile offenders miles
away from their environment and placed in adult like prisons. However the way juvenile our house

of juvenile offenders as explained in Neil Bernstein (2014) Burning down the House. Neil Bernstein

and that is where my soccer career comes in play. I have experienced a lot in my soccer career, I know
this is what I want to do with my life because I get to entertain a lot of people and I have a passion for
the game. One day I was watching a Real Madrid game vs Athletico Madrid in the Champions League
final. A guy named Cristiano Ronaldo was playing, I had a passion for soccer before that game but I
did research on Cristiano Ronaldo, I learned very quickly that I wanted to be just like him. The game
of soccer has a lot of emotion to it and I am a very emotional person, that s why my personality fits
one of the greatest soccer players ever said I learned all about life with a ball at my feet (Ronaldinho).
This career is one of the only ways I will try so hard in life, it is my #1 priority to play soccer, that is
what draws me to this career. My other career is a video editor, because without movies and other
entertaining things would not be around. Soccer inspired me to make soccer video edits. I have been
doing that for 2 years, I fit for this job because I am very good with editing software and I am
motivated by it. For both of these careers no special clothing is required, except in soccer I have to
wear athletic clothing. The lifestyle of a video editor is easy for the most part. All they have to do is
make video edits for any company they are a part of. According

Secondhand Smoke Persuasive Essay
I stumbled out of a building, coughing and wheezing, smoke filled my eyes and lungs. I pulled my tie
frantically, my head beating as I ran out the entryway. I was having my supper when a refined man at
the table decided to light a cigarette. The smoke went directly to my face and lungs, suddenly, I could
not inhale, my chest hurt and I froze.
Secondhand smoke, also known as environmental tobacco smoke, is a mixture of two forms of smoke
from burning tobacco. Mainstream smoke exhaled by a smoker and Side stream smoke from a lighted
pipe, cigarette or cigar. When non smokers are exposed to secondhand smoke it is called passive
smoke and they take in nicotine and harmful elements the same way actual smokers do. Tobacco

Everyone can be exposed to secondhand smoking out in the open spots where smoking is permitted,
for example, a few eateries, malls, open transportation, stops, and schools. The Surgeon General has
proposed individuals to pick specific smoke eateries and organizations that restrict smoking. They
should inform proprietors of organizations that are not sans smoke realize that secondhand smoking is
destructive to your family s wellbeing.
Making your homestead smoke free is the most important thing to do for the sake of the health of your
family. Any family member can develop health problems related to secondhand smoking since we
spend more time at home than any other place. Multi unit housing can be essential where smoking is
allowed, although, tobacco smoke can move through air ducts, walls and shafts, secondhand smoke
can be controlled with ventilation, air cleaning or by separation of non smokers and smokers.
Young kids are the most affected by instances of secondhand smoke and are least able to avoid it.
Most of their exposure comes from guardians or parents smoking, studies show that children whose
parents smoke get sick more often. The children have more cases of lung infections like pneumonia
and bronchitis, are more prone to coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath and get more ear
infections. Secondhand smoke can cause asthma attacks, worsen asthmatic symptoms or result in new
cases of asthma in

The Realization Of One s Importance
Fred Newman
Professor DeMaris
CORE 110, Section G

Rough Draft
The Realization of One s Importance What is the purpose of life? Some may say life is about having
fun and making lots of money. Others may say that life is about having a family and a good job. Life
is described to be in your own hands. There is no one telling you how to live your own life, and that is
the joy about it. Even when discussing life, one has to think about what is important to themselves.
People are described by their morals and how they view this idea of life. Others will disagree, having
their own views and opinions. As in the story A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, family is
an important aspect in life. Every common human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were all excited to go and have a great time. Both of our families were packing away our luggage,
our minds constantly thinking about all of the fun we were going to have. I was young and only
thought about how much swimming I was going to do. I thought about all of the different slides I
would be enjoying and all of the laser tag I would be partaking in. My entire family and I could not
wait until the next day to depart on our journey to the Dells and just get away from everything and
enjoy ourselves. During the late hours of the night, everything changed. It was in the middle of the
night. My family was all asleep in their respective homes. I was sound asleep in my bed when I heard
the phone ring. I woke up from the ringing, but thought nothing of it because my dad had always
gotten alarm calls in the middle of the night for his shops he owned. I figured this was just another
alarm call. I sat for a little longer in my bed listening to my dad answer the phone. After a while, I
heard my mom take the phone from my dad, and she started sobbing. I had no idea what was going on,
so I just went back to bed. My mom woke me up earlier than usual, and I could tell she had been up all
night. She explained to me that we weren t going on the vacation anymore because something had
happened to my cousins family. She explained to me that my uncle, who was a truck driver, had gotten
a stroke in the middle of the night while he was

Ben Moy s The Attraction Of Men And Women
The Attraction of Men and Women All animals including humans have the ability to be sexually
attractive. This is called sex appeal, the potential to interest or excite others by appearance, style, or
charm. Sexual attraction is used for finding a potential mate. In the book, The Real Science of Sex
Appeal, the team from HowStuffWorks.com claims that since puberty we have tried to present
ourselves as attractive as possible to find the perfect mate. Humans attempt to make themselves more
appealing by using the rudimentary skills of staying in shape, dressing well, and smelling decent. But
being sexually attractive has a great deal more to it than just those few things. Studies have shown that
sex appeal is biologically programmed into humans brains. Some senses play an immense role in sex
appeal. The olfaction sense the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cara Di Yanni a psychology professor from Rider University believes that attraction can be based off
more than just genetics. In Ben Moy s article, The science of sex appeal; The ideal man and woman,
Di Yanni agreed that, We are biologically predisposed to find certain aspects of humans to be
attractive, and others are most definitely learned. She gives examples of how men find that women
with long hair, large breasts, a healthy weight, and an hour glass shape. These all indicate fertility and
the capability to give birth. Women tend to be enticed by men with money, and this can explain why
women seem picky. When it comes to women dating they calculate everything about men including
their money. Unlike men, having sex can be pricier for women because they may end up pregnant and
must carry a child for nine months, and care for it years after birth. Women wanting men with money
dates back to caveman times. Back then women would typically want to marry a man with high rank
or the best hunter. They wanted someone who could best provide for the family and bring home

Macbeth Superstition Research Paper
The Scottish Play and the The Bard s Play are euphemisms for William Shakespeare s Macbeth. The
first is a reference to the play s Scottish setting, the second a reference to Shakespeare s popular
nickname. According to a theatrical superstition, called the Scottish curse, speaking the name Macbeth
inside a theatre will cause disaster. A variation of the superstition also forbids quoting it within a
theatre except as part of an actual rehearsal or performance of the play.
Because of this superstition, the lead character is most often referred to as the Scottish King or
Scottish Lord. Lady Macbeth is often referred to as the Scottish Lady. Sometimes Mackers or MacB is
used to avoid saying the name, mostly in North America. Those who believe ... Show more content on

The rituals are supposed to ward off the evil that uttering the play s name is feared to bring on. The
rituals include turning three times, spitting over one s left shoulder, swearing, or reciting a line from
another of Shakespeare s plays. Popular lines for this purpose include, Angels and ministers of grace
defend us , If we shadows have offended , and Fair thoughts and happy hours attend on you . For
example, in the Blackadder episode Sense and Senility, a parody ritual performed by two actors
involves slapping each other s hands pat a cake fashion with a quickly spoken ritual, followed by a
pinching of the nose. In Slings and Arrows, a guest director mocks the superstition by saying the word
Macbeth onstage, spins around, and falls off on her third spin, resulting in an injury that takes her out
of commission for the rest of the season. On The Simpsons, the core five are invited into a
performance by Sir Ian McKellen . The family keeps saying the title, which only makes more bad luck
strike the actor, including lightning striking him and the MAC falling from the

Analysis Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce, is an eerie short story about a man who
believes he has escaped from death but in reality, he was dreaming the whole time and is killed by the
Union soldiers. I found it interesting that Farquhar truly believed that he escaped his death. Narration
is a huge component with this story. Without the literary devices used, the story would not flow and
the readers would not understand why the story is told the way it is. Themes that stand out within the
text are the war, perception and death. This story reflects on how a person who is in danger creates a
distorted perception of a serious or death threatening event.
The short story starts off with a man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bierce breaks up the story by firstly explaining what is happening at that moment, it then moves to a
description of Farquhar, and lastly the story moves to Farquhar s distorted perception of his reality and
his death. The story is well descripted which helps the reader understand what is going on, the
descriptions also allow the reader to know what is going on around Farquhar and what he is seeing.
The story is written in third person narrative, which is an omniscient narrator. As a reader, the narrator
gave lots of information but left a big chunk of information out. Throughout the whole story, we get
all our information from the narrator. The only thing the narrator did not inform us about is that half
the of the story was not real. I believe this was done to show the readers that your perception is not
always true. Bierce also used foreshadowing in the beginning of the story. In the first half of the story
Farquhar mentioned a plan to escape If I could free my hands, I might throw the noose and spring into
the stream. By diving I could evade the bullets and, swimming vigorously, reach the bank, take to the
woods and get away home. , he knew it wasn t possible to get out of his situation but was optimistic.
In his distorted perception, Farquhar

Armenia Genocide Dbq
In a letter to Cleveland Hoadley Dodge on May 11th, 1918 the 26th US President Theodore Roosevelt
in less than a year before his death made a prophetic prediction: ... the Armenian massacre was the
greatest crime of the war (WWI), and failure to act against Turkey is to condone it; because the failure
to deal radically with Turkish horror means that all talk of guaranteeing the future peace of the world
is mischievous nonsense . The prediction was right.
Mass extermination and deportation of Western population of Armenia, Cilicia and other provinces of
the Ottoman Empire carried out by the ruling circles of Turkey in 1915 1923. The policy of genocide
against Armenians was due to several factors. The leading role among them was the ideology ... Show

Christianity has become something more than a religion for the Armenian people. It was their soul and
mentality. However, the Armenians had especially hard times when their ancestral lands were invaded
from the Far East and Central Asian Turkic tribes. When a breakdown of Constantinople began it also
affected an allied capital of the Byzantine the Great Armenia, and so hard times began: Christian
churches were turned into mosques, the minarets were set around, and the faces of the saints in the
churches painted over. The Ottomans considered Armenians, Greeks and Slavs as an inferior class.
Islamic fundamentalism was formed in the second half of the 19th century and flourished during the
reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid. Armenians became especially hateful for the Turks when they hoped to

A Christmas Memory Analysis
A Christmas Memory is an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his
dear friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930 s, right after the depression, in a rural Southern part
of Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is a sixty something (3) year old woman
who has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook
share a home with other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are
overall unkind. However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an
unbreakable friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last
Christmas with Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language. One of
the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make us feel joyful, giddy and
excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we giggle: as if
unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably, the way this passage is composed gives the reader a
sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsively of loud singing. His whimsical language is
taken a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23), as it makes the reader
visualize being tickled until they are out of breath. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the
beginnings of dawn splash us like cold water... (36). This makes the reader feel as though they are
being abruptly splashed with cold water. Capote wanted to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas
morning and capture the excitement of not wanting to make waste of time. Capote uses vivid language
to make us feel cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the
household. Not only does Capote use language to depict a sense of happiness, similarly, he also uses it
to portray a sense of misery and somberness. During the whiskey scene, the relatives in the household
erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and
graphic. In the same passage, the relatives say, shame! scandal! humiliation! kneel, pray, beg the Lord!
(24). The three things that are of the

Management Operations Management
Management in all business and organizational activities is the act of coordinating the efforts of
people to accomplish desired goals and objectives using available resources efficiently and effectively.
Management comprises planning, organizing, staffing, leading or directing, and controlling an
organization (a group of one or more people or entities) or effort for the purpose of accomplishing a
goal. Resourcing encompasses the deployment and manipulation of human resources, financial
resources, technological resources, and natural resources.
Since organizations can be viewed as systems, management can also be defined as human action,
including design, to facilitate the production of useful outcomes from a system. This view opens the ...

The phrase management is what managers do occurs widely, suggesting the difficulty of defining
management, the shifting nature of definitions and the connection of managerial practices with the
existence of a managerial cadre or class.
One habit of thought regards management as equivalent to business administration and thus excludes
management in places outside commerce, as for example in charities and in the public sector. More
broadly, however, every organization must manage its work, people, processes, technology, etc. to
maximize effectiveness. Nonetheless, many people refer to university departments that teach
management as business schools . Some institutions (such as the Harvard Business School) use that
name while others (such as the Yale School of Management) employ the more inclusive term
management .
English speakers may also use the term management or the management as a collective word
describing the managers of an organization, for example of a corporation. Historically this use of the
term often contrasted with the term Labor referring to those being managed.
Nature of managerial work[edit]
In for profit work, management has as its primary function the satisfaction of a range of stakeholders.
This typically involves making a profit (for the shareholders), creating valued products at a reasonable
cost (for customers), and providing rewarding employment opportunities for employees. In nonprofit
management, add the

Employee Holidays
Most employees, whether part time or full time are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid annual leave.
More annual leave may be agreed as part of an employee s contract. A week of leave should allow
workers to be away from work for a week i.e. it should be the same amount of time as the working
week. If a worker does a five day week, he or she is entitled to 28 days leave. If he or she does a three
day week, the entitlement is 16.8 days leave. If a worker s employment ends, he or she has a right to
be paid for the leave time due and not taken. Paid public holidays can be counted as part of the
statutory 5.6 weeks of holiday.
Rest Periods Rest Breaks, Daily rest and Weekly rest
An employee is entitled to an uninterrupted break of 20 minutes when their working time is more than
six hours. It should not be taken either at the start, or at the end, of a working day. An adult worker is
also entitled to one day off a week, this can be averaged over 2 weeks.
Working Hours
Employees cannot be forced to work more than a 48 hour week averaged out normally over a 17 week
period. There are some jobs were this rule does not apply and there are also jobs were these rules are
an absolute must. Employees can choose to opt out of this rule unless they are one of the listed
professions that

  • 2. Hurricane Andrew Research Papers The sound of the wind, that s what you never forget. The initial whisper. The growing mewing that turns into a howl. Then they cry of glass shattering. The grumbling of a roof peeling apart , said Ana Veciana Suarez, as she remembers one of the worst, fiercest, and most powerful storm to hit South Florida, Hurricane Andrew. On August 24, 1992, Category 5 Hurricane Andrew came through and devastated South Florida turning its full forces on Miami Dade county. The aftermath of this hurricane was completely unbelievable and devastating, being that it was the most high priced storm ever recorded in United States History. Rebuilding the community took several years and even after everything was rebuilt, citizens of South Florida, would never forget Hurricane Andrew. As many know, hurricanes are considered to be among the most powerful forces in nature. A hurricane is a powerful storm system that produces intense winds and heavy rainfall. Hurricanes form over warm ocean water during warm months such as June, July, and August which is known as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We went out and brought cold cuts, flashlights, candles, we even tied down everything on our back porch and whatever we could not tie down, went in our shed. I thought we prepared more than enough, but we didn t. We prepared just enough. She explained how the storm was furious, how it was very powerful and dangerous. When I asked Mrs. Brown was there any damage done to her house, she said yes. Our big avocado tree that has been there for almost 25 years, fell and hit our back porch and or kitchen window cracked. The product life cycle proceeds through multiple phases, involves many professional disciplines, and requires many skills, tools and processes. By explaining the product life cycle stages, we clearly define the phase, each with its own characteristics that will have different impact on each reader depending on their particular situation. We discuss introduction, growth, maturity and decline. Once the product is designed and put into the market, the offering should be managed efficiently for the buyers to get value from it. Before entering into any market complete analysis is carried out by the industry for both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boom is on. This is the beginning of Stage 2 the market growth stage. At this point potential competitors who have been watching developments during Stage I jump into the fray. The first ones to get in are generally those with an exceptionally effective used apple policy. Some enter the market with carbon copies of the originator s product. Others make functional and design improvements. And at this point product and brand differentiation begin to develop. The ensuing fight for the consumer s patronage poses to the originating producing an entirely new set of problems. Instead of seeking ways of getting consumers to try the product, the originator now faces the more compelling problem of getting them to prefer his brand. This generally requires important changes in marketing strategies and methods. But the policies and tactics now adopted will be neither freely the sole choice of the originating producer, nor as experimental as they might have been during Stage I. The presence of competitors, both dictates and limits what can easily be tried such as, for example, testing what is the best price level or the best channel of distribution. As the rate of consumer acceptance accelerates, it generally becomes increasingly easy to open new distribution channels and retail outlets. The consequent filling of distribution pipelines generally causes the entire industry s factory sales to rise more rapidly than store sales. This creates an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Heroes In Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell Heroes can be explained in many different ways. Heroes can be said to have specific features like being ultimately stronger than everyone else, being able to use special powers to defeat their enemy, or just being able to accomplish something that they themselves or other people thought that they could never do. Through many years of studying different cultures and their historic myth, people are able to come up with a theory on how many of the myths complete their heroic cycle. Joseph Campbell has spent many years studying different cultures and their myths in order to find out the true qualities of a hero. In the series Power of Myth where he sits down and talks about his experiences with other cultures and different types of myth, he explains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A hero can be at the burning house physically helping put out the fire, down the street putting their life on the line to catch the convict, or in the closest church spreading the word of their religion and how it has affect their life. Everywhere you go you can always find a hero nearby. The one that is like family to me that I consider a hero is my elementary teacher. She is there for anyone at any time. Starting at a young age, she was not always the best or brightest person around. She has told stories of the things that she has done and the trouble that she and her friends use to cause. In her late teens she decided this would not be the type of person that she wanted to be and decided to change the way that she was behaving. She started going to church and found programs that helped her change her way. After a while she started to reach out to her old friends and eventually got a few of them to change with her. After a while of this she decided she needed to help more people and more families and not just the friends and family that she knows best. She started to go to college and became a teacher that way every year she could help out at least another twenty kids and their families. For the past 48 years she has continuously helped out these families year after year. She has also reached out even farther and has helped children out by being a foster parent. Almost every year she would be given a child or two and has had to raise the kid for the year until someone was able to properly give them a home. Many of these children had mental problems from being switched in and out of homes and once she got them she was able to fully understand them and help them out tremendously, then after a couple months they were able to find a permanent home where she would send them and then get her next child. Time after time this was done and she has help more than a dozen children get through this and at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Mummification In Egyptian Mythology A dark room with quiet voices chanting sacred incantations. Four jars rest upon a table, now full. The smell of chemicals lingers in the air, and men lean over a form covered in linen. The stillness in the air is palpable; all is silent except for the praying. Extravagant items, precious jewels, and coins litter the table next to the form. These treasured objects will soon be with the dead around the sarcophagus. After the mummification is finished, the body will be transported into a pyramidal tomb where the spirit will travel to the Afterlife with his possessions. All of these steps were a part of the holy rite to help the deceased on his journey. If one step was done incorrectly, the embalming would be for nothing. The process of mummification ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an accurate representation of Osiris: the King of the Dead. In Egyptian mythology, Osiris was killed and cut apart by his brother, Seth, but put back together by Isis, the sister and wife of Osiris. (Ikram and Dodson 103). He was then embalmed and mummified by Anubis, the God of Mummification. Osiris was the first mummy and represented rebirth. The process of mummification took place over three thousand years and came to a close at the start of the Christian era (Ikram and Dodson 120). The words mummy and mummification are from the Persian word, bitumen, which has to do with resin and pitch, or unrefined oil (Dictionary.com). This definition makes sense since resin was used to secure the linens onto the body. The first mummies were unintentional. These ancient Egyptians were buried in the fetal position, thrown into shallow graves in the sand with only religious items (Brier 15). The desert sand and dry air naturally preserved the bodies, and the Egyptians discovered that the human remains were preserved when the bodies were uncovered by the sand or wild dogs dug them up. The Egyptians then developed a method to preserve the bodies of kings, queens, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Blast and Vorticism Magazines Blast is a key literary magazine of the English avant garde, published during 1914 and 1915. Although founded by Wyndham Lewis, Ezra Pound holds an important post of assisting Lewis with the publishing of the magazine, dealing with its main theme of Vorticism. Not only this, but Pounds involvement with Imagism prior to the publication of Blast plays an influence in the way literature is evidently shaped and associated within the magazine. With themes of Cubism and Futurism also being evident in the magazine; emphasises the focus on providing a magazine which prides itself in producing literature rich in artistic detail to the themes of its time. Although images and layout are a key factor in emphasising these themes, it is the content for example poems within the magazine relating to Vorticism, that is new in which it focuses on locating the movement and stillness within the image . Blast and Vorticism s roots are said to lie and be based on Pounds history with Imagism in literature, particularly poetry, and Cubism and Futurism in arts . With Pound forming the group Imagism based on similarly discovering new philosophies of thought and experimenting with new changes in verse form , he was in constant pursuit for literary advancement. With the group founded in 1912, by 1914 Pound assisted Lewis in the production of Blast. With inspiration coming from Imagism s objectivity, efficiency and creativity , Pound further strived for a style of writing in poetry which suggested ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spiritual Assessment Advanced Practice Nurse Implications Spiritual assessment and care of a patient at each medical or psychiatric appointment is an essential aspect of providing adequate care by all NPs. To be able to do so, NP must understand that spirituality and religiosity are not synonymous. Unlike the concept of religion, which defined by the online Oxford dictionary (2017) as The belief in a worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods, spirituality holds various definitions depending on whom you ask. Equally, Castledine (2011) states, The trouble with humility is that it is a very humble virtue to have and one that cannot be easily rated in the same way as other values in life (p. 527). Likewise, Srokosz (2013) suggests, humility is difficult to define and a clear scientific understanding of humility does not exist yet (p. 103). Similarly, Crigger and Godfrey (2010) review of literature offer two reasons for the lack of scholarly interests in humility : (a) original meaning of the term humble, narrow sense of having a low estimation of one s self and being of little value, the notion of humility conflicts with modern conceptions of the self and (b) its religious affiliation may also dampen the benefit of acquiring or nursing humility, particularly in the US culture... (p. 311 312). Notwithstanding, de Vries (2004) examined humility by applying qualitative approach in order to explore the following two objectives: (a) To describe how washing feet is a participatory experience, and (b) To describe how the experience of washing feet can change the relationship between nurse and patient (p. 580). • 12. How Millercoors Creates Up Porter s Five Forces The fourth force that makes up Porter s Five Forces is the bargaining power of buyers. For MillerCoors specifically, the main buyers are distributors. The distributor controls the price by setting it on profit margins. In addition, distributors are consolidating and increasing in power. For example, in 1970 there were 5,000 distributors; today there are only 2,500 distributors. The distributors are also eliminating new competition. Two examples of this are how MillerCoors puts pressure on itself to carry its own brand and how there are more and more regulations on beer. Because of these reasons, there is more power to current distributors than there was in the past. The fifth and final force is the threat of new entry. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the weaknesses that I could think of are that the company has one very large competitor that represents 50 percent of the market share instead of several semi large competitors, so gaining the majority of the market share is a difficult task. The second weakness is that the beer brewing industry has slow industry growth, while the wine industry is growing much more rapidly. In terms of opportunities and threats, MillerCoors has several opportunities that it could capitalize on. The opportunities that stand out to me are the foreign market explosive growth, financial markets, innovation, and increasing the awareness of sustainability issues among consumers and employees. If MillerCoors took advantage of these opportunities, it would find great success in several different realms of the competitive market. As far as threats go, there are three main ones that face MillerCoors. The first one is the competition that the company faces, the second one is the overall falling beer consumption that is happening worldwide, and the third one is the growing popularity of microbreweries and craft beer. These threats can also be seen as opportunities, though, such as homing in on the creation of more microbreweries in its market to keep up with the growing popularity and developing ... • 13. Comparing Attentional Capture By Rare And Constant, Novel,... Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant, Novel, Sudden Onset Stimuli Samuel Tong (450472150) ABSTRACT Novel and rare sudden onset stimuli are known to attract attention in different situations. Previously Yantis Jonides (1990) have shown novel sudden onsets capture attention mainly when attention is diffuse, and Neo Chua (2006) have shown rare sudden onsets capture attention so long as attention is not already pre deployed to a stationary target. The current study aims to examine the interaction between rarity of a novel, sudden onset and attention pre deployment by cues or stationary targets, and how this interaction affects the attentional capture of novel sudden onsets. In doing so, a better understanding of how these stimuli affect attentional processes may be established. Based upon the experimental findings, it is proposed that when a sudden onset stimulus is both rare and novel, the attentional capture processes when perceiving these stimuli are influenced by perceptual load and modes of attention. The first part includes a diagnosis of information which define the core issues that should be addressed, and secondly provide a fitting intervention plan to guide Bank X into the right direction. The board presented a set of problems, what we should solve, the most concerning are the lack of loyalty among the employees and the lack of honesty of the Bank towards its environment. We used two diagnostic approaches to reach the core of the problems Bank X faces, the Onion model invented by Hofstede, which help us to understand the different layers of the culture in the bank and the Behaviour approach model, which aims to present a clear summary of the behaviour of your colleagues. The diagnosed core issue, the outcome of the analysis, is related to the organizational culture of Bank X. Gandhi s assertion challenges this moral code established in both the Odyssey and the Old Testament, just as Aeschylus challenges the validity of vendetta as a successful technique for maintaining societal order in his Oresteia trilogy. The revenge ethic plays a key role in the story because it makes justice the personal responsibility of the person insulted; the killer must be killed, and the act of retribution must be carried out by the most appropriate person preferably a close blood relative. College Is The Time Of Your Life Haakon Lovestad Dr. Van Bergen Rylander 24 Nov. 2104 Every once in a while, one comes across the saying college is the time of your life , true enough, every person who has had the opportunity to attend college, regularly reminisces about the time they had. In all fairness, the time in college is indeed memorable. The reason as to why even Hollywood regularly releases movies with a theme and setting of college. What these movies inevitably end up doing is glamorizing the all things to do with college other than actually studying. In fact, in most instances, these movies glamorize parties, casual sex, drinking binges and use of drugs. To the high school teenager with raving hormones, this is a place to look forward to, which is if it ends up motivating them to the quests of higher grades. Nevertheless, parents and other stakeholders more so in the department of health are regularly wondering what exactly the place of sex in college is. (Bruce and Stewart) It is worth it to analyze the whole issue of sex with an open mind. The reason for this is that external influences cloud the perception of most regarding the topic of sex in relation to college. Society encourages modesty in matters relating to sex, ironically, the media is awash with sex if not explicitly, it is implicit. However, the common denominator to all this is the ever willingness of college girls to engage in sexual activity in a rather casual and care free manner. The House of Lords outlook concerning the doctrine of precedent is reflected in Lord Woolf s statement in the case of R v Simpson [2003] . The excerpt brings up the practice of the courts, and how the rules of precedent had to be applied bearing in mind that their objective was to assist in the administration of justice , as well as precedential certainty and flexibility. The dicta used in his lengthy statement leaves space for discussion, such as; the precedent assisting the administration of justice, the appropriate degree of certainty that precedent carries. There is also room for examination as to just how far flexibility in precedent serves a positive purpose to meet contemporary needs. The first point of discussion stems from the objective of precedent to assist in the administration of justice . Being a key component of the common law legal system, precedent is based on stare decisis, which is Latin for to stand by things decided , and is the first rule of precedent . It refers to policy of the court to abide by rulings set by decisions made in previous cases. This involves the ratio decidendi, which is the basis of binding precedent because it stands as the reasoning behind a ruling. Without this, the doctrine of precedent would be unable to operate. Parts of the judgment that do not form the ratio are referred to as obiter dicta, and are merely persuasive precedent. The second rule of precedent is in relation to court hierarchy . According to research, it has been discovered that people progress more when they invest their energy to build their strength rather than fixing their weakness (Rath, 2007). Gallup, the writer of the book says the book strengths finder actually measures our talent, not strength because the goal is to help us find our true talents and build them as our strength (Rath, 2007). • 22. Expectations Of Women In The 19th Century An Insight into the Expectations of a 19th Century Woman Since the beginning of time, women have been considered the weaker sex. During the nineteenth century, women were considered illogical and vulnerable. Women could not partake in employment opportunities and they could not vote. Men believed that women were the mentally and physically insuperior gender, therefore women were not considered equal to men. In opposition to this exhausted belief, women are now seen as strong and influential individuals. In modern time, females have the rights of voting, attaining jobs, and living the same traditional lives that the majority of males have always pursued. In the short story The Birthmark by Nathaniel Hawthorne, one can see how Georgiana can be considered a submissive, passive, and dependent wife to Aylmer. Georgiana was the epitome of an average nineteenth century woman and followed the rules that society had laid for all matrons. Additionally, Georgiana was a dedicated wife who yearned to please her husband. Aylmer was the dominant and outspoken figure in their household whilst Georgiana was the meek and accommodating shadow. Therefore, according to nineteenth century standards, Georgiana succeeds as a wife to Aylmer. Considering that women during this era were seen as physically weaker than men, their bodies were also classified as their husband s property. Girls would often marry in their early twenties, whilst their grooms would normally be at least five years older. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Impact Of Physical Geography Impact of Physical Geography and Development: Physical geography plays a significant part in the development and success of different people and countries. A country s location can greatly affect how that country does economically. For example, country s near water typically do better economically than landlocked because water unlocks more trade opportunities. However, some landlocked countries can still do well because of it s neighboring countries that may be located near water. Another example is the type of environment you re located in. People in countries with a more agricultural based environment will live very differently than a country surrounded by desert that may focus on oil or minerals. Yet, some countries, like the U.S, are so big that they have many different climates, ecosystems, and environments; allowing for many different types of ways to make money, trade, and live. A countires location can also affect how people live. Anything from climate to where the country is located compared to the equator can completely determine how someone lives. A place with a rainy climate that may rely on industry will be completely different that one with a more mild climate that relies on agriculture. A countires location from the equator will also drastically affect how people live. A country like Brazil that is right next to the equator will focus their industries on different things than a country like Russia, who is far away from the equator, will rely on different types of industries. A country s location can also determine how it is affected by natural disasters. For example, Thailand has a risk of tsunamis, California is greatly affected by earthquakes, and places like Hawaii are affected by volcanos. All of those things can affect a country s economy and development. Core Periphery Model or World Systems Theory: In The Power of Place Harm De Blij divides the world into two parts; the core and periphery. Core countries are often successful economically, have a dominant military, and have overall better health. Throughout the poem, a number of literary devices are used. For example: or press an ear against its hive . Using this metaphor, Billy Collins is comparing the body of a poem to the hive of a bee. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an effective metaphor as water skiing brings about a great sense of joy and is fun, just as reading a poem in Billy Collins opinion should be. The use of onomatopoeic devices and onomatopoeic words are abundant in this poem. For instance, I say drop a mouse into a poem is a line whereby the word drop , a very onomatopoeic word, effectively suggests that the reader of a poem must gently analyze a poem. This is portrayed through the gentle p sound of the word and this is therefore effective as the reader gets a sense of the gentleness Billy Collins wishes his readers had when it comes to analyzing poetry. The fact that enjambment is used throughout the poem such as in the lines, like a colour slide or press an ear against its hive portrays a lack of structure and therefore emphasizes the initial enjoyment one feels when reading a poem before the chore of analyzing it begins. This is also emphasized through the fact that the poem is a free verse poem. The poem suddenly becomes much darker in the last stanza and a Billy Collins explains how teachers, students or general readers of poetry torture a poem by being what he believes is cruelly analytical. He says, all they want to do is tie the poem to a chair with rope and torture a confession out of it . Here, the poem is being personified yet again and this brings about an almost human connection between the reader and the poem. This use of personification is effective as it makes the ... He is desperate to uncover the roots behind the twisted caste system that has been set in place by an organization called the Party. He even gets himself accepted into the anti Party brotherhood. However, it is only through the great efforts that Winston goes through carrying out his rebellion that the true effect of the power of the party can be seen. The beginning of the parties control stems from their ability to use language as a mind control device. In Oceania, if you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself. The Party implements a new language called Newspeak which simply eliminates any potentially disloyal words from the vocabulary. Orwell uses this to illustrate the point that language is the most crucial part in the generation of unique and original human thought. Without language, the formation of thought is nearly impossible. Even the conceptualization of an idea questioning the Party s absolute power is made impossible by Newspeak. Therein lies another issue; once the Party controls language they have the ability to exercise psychological and physical intimidation and manipulation over the society. Winston comes to a terrifying realization, nothing is worse than physical pain, for after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or, that they force of gravity works? Or that they ... Aureus Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a spherical bacteria which is known to produce a cytotoxin called Panton Valentine leucocidin (PLV) which destroys leukocytes, and kills tissue (Lina et al., 1999). Five percent of strains of Staphylococcus are known to produce the disease causing toxin (Lina et al., 1999), but though the amount of PLV producing strains is somewhat small, the strains which produce PLV are apparently resistant to vancomycin, an antibiotic commonly used to treat staph infections (CDC, 2002). The first recorded case of S. aureus resistance to vancomycin was a reduction in sensitivity to the antibiotic observed in Japan, and has since spread to the United States (CDC, 2002). The most common source of infection of these drug resistant bacteria are actually in hospitals, wherein the patients are exposed to the bacteria and subsequently infected (CDC, 2002). Because of this rise of selection for vancomycin resistant bacteria, finding an alternative antibiotic treatment for this strain of bacteria is imperative. There has been some consideration of alternatives to vancomycin treatment of bacteria as sensitivity toward the drug decreases. Though vancomycin is still the treatment standard for methicillin resistant bacteria, other compounds such as linezolid have proven to be more effective. I set my feet on the rough, yet new looking gravel road and let out a sigh. From behind, I hear cars coming my way, and I look around at my surroundings as I grab my things. Trees of all shapes and forms surround me, their green leaves and giant branches enticing me to get closer. I swallow a lump that forms in my throat, urging the already swarming butterflies in my stomach to calm down. This year, I would meet new people and make new friends, it was thrilling. Yet beneath it all, I found myself anxious of the upcoming week. I look around at the trees, trying to convince myself that it wouldn t be so bad. The camp was small, only 3 buildings, but it was quaint.I glance at the buildings of wood and stone surrounding me, and I notice a woman on the porch. She sits with a smile, her lengthy hair down on the ground. I m drawn to her like a sheep to a shepherd and I grab my stuff, walking to her. The woman stands and I note she is short and stout. Though she spoke with power and intelligence, she had a soft and kind tone to her voice. She welcomes me into the camp, showing me to a room where I will be sleeping. Without the literary devices used, the story would not flow and the readers would not understand why the story is told the way it is. • 50. A Christmas Memory Analysis A Christmas Memory is an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his dear friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930 s, right after the depression, in a rural Southern part of Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is a sixty something (3) year old woman who has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook share a home with other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind. However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language. One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make us feel joyful, giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably, the way this passage is composed gives the reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsively of loud singing. His whimsical language is taken a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23), as it makes the reader visualize being tickled until they are out of breath. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the beginnings of dawn splash us like cold water... (36). This makes the reader feel as though they are being abruptly splashed with cold water. Capote wanted to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas morning and capture the excitement of not wanting to make waste of time. Capote uses vivid language to make us feel cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the household. Not only does Capote use language to depict a sense of happiness, similarly, he also uses it to portray a sense of misery and somberness. During the whiskey scene, the relatives in the household erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and graphic.
