3. INTRODUCTION
Motion measurement instrument.
Measures the direction,forces acting on a body,orientation,velocity&acceleration.
It consist of a accelerometer, gyroscope and sometimes a magnetometer.
Accelerometer; An accelerometer measures change of linear velocity of moving or vibrating object.
Gyroscope; A gyroscope detects change in orientation or in other words angular velocity.
Magnetometer; A magnetometer measures the magnetic field at a particular location.
4. 6 AXIS IMU & 9 AXIS IMU
In real time problems (3D space) a body have 6 degrees of freedom.
3 linear & 3 rotational movements.
3 Axis accelerometer sensor measures the 3 linear axis movement.
5. 6 AXIS IMU & 9 AXIS IMU
3 Axis magnetometer sensor measures the 3 rotational axis movement.
3 Axis magnetometer+3 axis accelerometer together called 6 axis IMU.
6 axis IMU together with 3 axis magnetometer is called 9 axis IMU.
6. WHAT IS MEMS?
Micro Electro Mechanical System.
Tiny machines which is not visible to human eye(micro machines).
Micro machines of varying width of 1-100 microns.
It contains both mechanical & electrical elements.
Mechanical elements are used to collect data.
Electrical elements are used to process data.
Sensors; gather information from surrounding.
Actuators; executes the given commands.
7. MEMS ACCELEROMETER MICRO PROCESSOR UNIT
MEMS APPLICATIONS MEMS ADVANTAGES
Crash sensing device for air bag system
(measures the force).
MEMS incorporated projectors & printers
for producing colorful images from black
and white images
Increases the accuracy.
Reduce the cost.
Reduce the number of mechanical&
electrical devices.

based upon miniature MEMS inertial sensor technology
17. CONCLUSIONS
IMUs are used to measure acceleration, angular velocity and magnetic fields, and, when combined
with sensor fusion software, they can be used to determine motion, orientation and heading
They’re found in many applications across consumer electronics and the industrial sector.
IMUs will provide more accurate information.
IMUs will help to incorporate advanced features.
