Definition
• Advisor operates from a growth mindset, whereby she/he understands the importance of
continually expanding their client base and revenues associated with their book of business.
• He/she describes the importance of internal motivation and has focused on understanding their
“why” – their life’s internal motivations.

Introduction
• Best Practitioners agree that a growth mindset is critical to growing a book and staying
resilient.
• The ability to absorb challenges, failures, setbacks and emotional “ups and downs” and turn
them all into fuel for growth are a critical part of sustaining success as an Advisor.
• In order to maintain the level of engagement and excellence need to grow your book over time,
you need to cultivate your Growth Mindset.

6. Actions provide evidence – they’re votes in favor of who you want to become. Who do you

1. Motive. What’s your motive? Your WHY behind why you’re doing this job? Why behind your
success? What’s your motive?
2. “Success and failure are slow processes.” Where can you give away or make up ground
every day? What do you need to be paying attention to daily?
3. Where are you making excuses? Are you believing lies that are limiting you?
4. “Stop looking for a shortcut and go find an alarm clock.” Where do you need to stop looking
for a shortcut and just go get it done?
5. What part of this role will take discipline for you?

Meet with your mentor or an experienced Advisor and use the Discussion
Questions below to get insights about how they effectively manage time.
1. What are the most relevant skills I need to learn in the next 12 months?
2. What are the daily activities you are committed to that have lead to your success? How have

3. Have you ever wanted to quit? How did you work through it? What are the ways you deal with

6. Do you have the knowledge and skills to make the necessary changes?
7. Do you have the encouragement of your peers, family and friends?
8. Do you need help to make the necessary changes?
9. What is the incentive to making these changes?
10. What can you change in your physical space / environment / surroundings to make the
desired behaviors easier?

Growth Mindset – BUSINESS PLAN
For your Business Plan slides, there are no “rules” other than they need to be in PowerPoint
format.
On this page, you should create a draft slide which you will be updating throughout the program
as you gain insight and receive feedback.
You will be presenting your final Business Plan at the final workshop in late 2020.
For this slide, think about your Growth Mindset goals. Think about what specific and measurable
actions you need to take to achieve those goals.
How will you cultivate a growth mindset, grit, habits, and discipline to propel your
success?
Use the Action Development Plan on the previous slide to help guide your thinking.
