Medical Malpratices in Surgery
Medical malpractice cases increases when a patient is harmed or injured by a doctor or nurse or other
medical professional who fails to provide proper and better health care treatment. Fortunately, doctors,
nurses, and hospitals make mistakes in a small number of cases. But within that small minority of
cases, certain types of errors crop up more often than others.
Surgical errors can be medical malpractice if the surgeon s performance falls below the accepted
standard of care for a reasonably competent surgeon under similar circumstances, and the patient is
injured as a result. Although some surgical errors are the result of a physician s actual incompetence,
most result from poor planning before surgery or failure to properly communicate with the patient or
his/her family about the possible risks associated with a procedure. During surgery, doctor, nurses and
medical provider often face situations where quick and fast decisions need to be made. When mistakes
occur during surgery, the patient on the operating table can suffer severe and weaken injuries.
Medical mistakes during surgery can occur when a doctor, nurse or hospital staffs fail to give their full
attention to the patient they are operating on. This can result in the wrong procedure being performed,
medical supplies used during the surgery being left inside of the patient, or a failure to promptly and
properly react when unanticipated problems arise. In many cases, problems during surgery are the
direct result

The Ten Main Organs In The Digestive System
The digestive system has a track that is about nine meters long. The ten main organs in this system are
the mouth, oesophagus, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum,
and the anus. Throughout the digestive system food that we eat is broken down, nutrients we need are
absorbed from this, and the waste materials left at the end are eliminated.
The digestive process begins at the mouth. When you eat food, obviously, it enters your mouth first.
Then, in the mouth mechanical digestion, the physical act of breaking down food, happens through the
means of your teeth. Chemical Digestion , the act of breaking down food through chemicals, also
happens in the mouth due to the enzymes found in the saliva. Saliva ... Show more content on

The small intestine is the longest organ in this system as it is estimated at about four times your
height. This is where the most chemical digestion happens. The enzyme that breaks down fats in the
small intestine is called bile. Bile is produced in the liver, and stored in the gallbladder. Enzymes that
break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates are the pancreatic enzymes as there are multiple different
ones. The liver, the gallbladder, and the pancreas are the three main organs in the digestive system in
which food does not pass through. The small intestine, however uses all these enzymes to break down
food chemically. Also, the small intestine has a lot of absorption. Absorption is the act of the digestive
system absorbing, or taking in, nutrients that our body needs. The small intestine is responsible for a
lot of absorption through finger like structures called villi. These villi also increase the surface area of
the small intestine allowing for maximum absorption and chemical digestion.
After the food leaves the small intestine it enters the large intestine. The large intestine s main job is to
absorb water. The direction of the large intestine is to go up, then right, down again, left once, and
finally down once

Ptsd Trauma
Chapter five discussed trauma and stress disorders. Two of these disorders being acute stress disorder
and posttraumatic stress disorder. For this week s discussion we were asked to discuss what types of
events in modern society might trigger these disorders. I feel that many events could trigger this type
of disorder. The initial events that come to mind are the Iraq war, Hurricane Matthew that is affecting
the east coast currently, the San Bernardino terrorist attack, death of a child, and being a victim of a
sexual assault. I think that all of these can be extremely stressful for an individual. However, people
on the outside may view one event to be more traumatic than another. Some things that may help
relieve the stresses of modern society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the only way that you would be able to handle that is to go through modeling to re teach
your mind that those instances do not have to always associate with the traumatic event. Although this
may take a large amount of time since it would be hard to control when a flashback is going to occur
and how long they will be stuck in that frame of mind. Possibly hypnosis could help with this. I think
some younger kids know that if they throw a fit about something or threaten violence they will get
what they want. I think that this is hard to deal with. How do you gauge if the threats are real or if it
just that, a threat. It would be terrible if you thought it was and they really did follow through. This is
probably learned at a young age. I know that for myself if I act like I can t do something or if I do it
wrong my mom will help me. Which is terrible, at the age of 26, still acting like I don t know how to
boil water or something so simple just so my mom will jump in and help me but I continue to find
myself doing. However, I do think that having your parents available to help you when you need help

In A Flood Inside Me Analysis
At the start of the book Ed is simply existing. He s not living, I cook. I eat. I wash but rarely iron. I
live in the past and believe that Cindy Crawford is by far the best supermodel. That s my life. (p.20)
This is a sentence that I feel really shows who Ed is at the beginning. He more or less does the same
thing every day in sort of a monotone way. Throughout the cards and difficulties that Ed goes through,
we really start to see a person emerging out of Ed. We see someone who is feeling and hoping and
living. In a flood inside me....three minutes straight. (pg.351) This change that we see in Ed happens
progressively. Each card and task that is given to Ed brings out something in him that in the beginning
we didn t see often. During the first chapter it doesn t seem that Ed has a lot of fears. When we were
first introduced to him during the bank robbery scene I perceived him to be quite stupid. Then, we got
to know him a little more and I saw that he was afraid, afraid of not doing anything with his life. Just
prior to the bank robbery, I d been taking stock of my life. Cabdriver and i d funked my age at that. (
You need to be twenty.) No real career. No respect in the community. Nothing. (pg.15) ... Show more

Social Network And Its Effects On Social Networking Essay
Social Network have been a helpful and reasonable approach to make early associates and acquire
upgrades from companions we don t usually meet as it encourages correspondence between associates
in the digital world. For all intents and purposes everybody nowadays possesses a gregarious systems
administration page and it can be tedious to look after it. Keeping an online status, every now and
again upgrading the profiles and amusements on Social networking destinations require much
consideration. While investing energy online can be backup in picking up overhauls of regular life,
extravagant and impulsive use of Social Network can bring about enslavement. Genial media
enslavement can meddle with one s day by day life and cause wellbeing issues. This article will depict
jovial media fixation and the wellbeing situations connected with it in America and propose elective
approaches to manage the compulsion and wellbeing dilemmas.
Examines gave proof which recommends that dependence on Social Network and systems
administration might be a potential noetic and physical wellbeing difficulty. Measurements
demonstrate that 55% of adolescents uses Social Network systems and the time spent on Facebook by
individuals augmented by 566% from 2007 to 2008 (Kuss and Griffiths, 2011). Individuals who have
higher use of pleasant systems administration destinations (SNSs) were seen to be less included with
their valid life groups. The common profiles of dependence can be loner or outgoing

Meg Murry Quotes
In the book, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L Engle, Meg Murry travels throughout the universe to
save her father. During this journey, Meg discovers her weaknesses and strengths. As Meg and her
friends travel they run into many problems, but always find ways to fix them. Throughout the novel, A
Wrinkle in Time, Meg proves to be a character who shows stubbornness, who learns to be
independent, and who understands love. In A Wrinkle in Time, Meg Murry tends to be stubborn. An
example of this is when Meg cannot hear the horses, and she asks Charles Wallace to try as hard as he
can so she can hear them. In the text it says, I want to know what they re saying! I want to know what
it means (63). This quote shows Meg was not going to take no for an answer and she was going to
hear what the creatures were singing. Another example of Meg s stubbornness is when she is
paralysed and determined to get back to Camazotz to save Charles Wallace from IT even though
Calvin and Mr. Murry say no. The story says, And you d better take me back to Camazotz and Charles
Wallace quickly (165). Mr. Murry and Calvin are telling Meg it is too dangerous for Meg to go back
with IT. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is when Meg wants to reach out to get Calvin s hand, but she decides not to because she
had done that the whole journey. The text says, She wanted to reach out a grab Calvin s hand, but it
seemed that ever since they had begun their journeyings she had been looking for a hand to hold, so
she stuffed her fists into her pockets... (131). This is important because Meg has finally learned that
she has to be more self confident and cannot depend on others to comfort her. Another quote to
support this is ...it has to be me. There isn t anyone else (189). This quote shows Meg realizes it has to
be her who saves Charles Wallace

Hum 115 Oil Pipeline Research Paper
Oil Pipelines Opposing Viewpoints Clayton Brooks HUM/115 Dr. Disque Oil Pipelines Opposing
View Points Pipeline is the best alternative and safest mode of transporting fuel compared to freight
trains or tanker tracks. However, there are those who argue that it is not safe because of lack of
adequate resources to inspect them, as well as the absence of regulations regarding the use of a
pipeline to transport fuel. Equally important, another issue is the great hazard to human life and
environment that can be difficult to control or eliminate in case of a spill. Explanation of Two
Different Points of View Regarding the Topic Opponents of the use of the pipeline mode to transport

accidents is attributable to the fact that as a mode of fuel transportation, minimal oversight, outdated

The authors contend that a majority of individuals often confuse ethics with acting in line with the
law, religious beliefs, and social conventions. Consequently, people depend on various principles and
concepts to differentiate between helpful and harmful behaviors. The opponents base their arguments
regarding the topic on the concept of law. According to their arguments, the pipeline unlike other
modes of transporting fuel is not well regulated. Likewise, its accidents are catastrophic and often
attract the attention of the government and the media. Therefore, the pipeline should not be utilized as
an alternative to transporting fuel because it is quite dangerous. However, those with the opposing
viewpoints base their arguments on social conventions. The opponents claim that the pipeline is the
safest way because the fatalities that result from the use of tanks or freight trains are 70 times higher

According to Mr. D. Ian Guild, Senior Advisor, Forfeiting Syndications Group, Standard Bank, the
cell was being set up after a series of meetings with the bank, and is essentially aimed at spreading the
message of Forfeiting as an effective trade financing mechanism to increase exports. Suggesting that
forfeiting was the ideal springboard for effecting a quantum jump in exports in the medium term, Mr.
Guild said he was confident of aggregating forfeiting business of $100 millions in 1998 and $250
millions in 1999 in the country. Since its introduction in 1992, Exim Bank had facilitated 69 forfeiting
transactions valued at around $75 millions, with credit periods ranging between 90 days and seven
years, and covering the export of goods ranging from textiles to plant and machinery. The RBI has
now permitted all commercial banks to act as facilitators for forfeiting transactions. Mr. Guild pointed
out that forfeiting has not really taken off in India because exporters and commercial banks lacked the
knowledge of the mechanics of the scheme. In India, the real challenge would be to motivate small
and medium exporters to use the forfeiting route for exports to countries which may not be able to buy
on cash terms. Mr. S. Bhattacharya, deputy general manager, Exim Bank, Calcutta, said: Payment

Understanding Jesus
P1. Jesus touchs each of our lives in different ways, his desire for each of us is to know who He
is.Though Jesus would love for each of us to have an insightful persecutive of who he is, the reality is
the perspectives from individuals very. Jesus does not pressure the dynamics of having him as the
ultimate source of our lives, despite the fact he awaits upon us all to proactively invite him into our
lives. The wisdom we formulate around knowing who God is, will establish the characteristics of how
we portray Him. To demonstrate God s love, Jesus defended from the Father and worker toward his
hour, time of his suffering and death on behalf of the world. P.290 Our efforts of understanding who
Jesus is will determine the standards of how our faith with God will grow. Eventhough faith is a
significant element to the formulation of believing in Christ, proception, disarmament and impression

The Role Of Women In Edith Wharton s The House Of Mirth
In Edith Wharton s The House of Mirth, she presents us the real New York City in late nineteenth
century. Due to the rapid development of industry, the wealth gap got wider and wider. Money
functions extremely important in people s social lives. People from upper class can purchase anything
they want: luxury goods, artworks, even women. As the main part of consumption, women s
consumption reflects the gender relation in American society during this time period. The protagonist
Lily Bart is a representative of females in 19th century. She was born in a rich family. However later
she can only marry the rich from upper class, by her perfect appearance, in order to continue her
luxuries life. Things do not turn out as her wishes, her marriage doesn t go well. Lily is just viewed as
a beautiful decoration of upper class which can be taken advantage of. Women are tempted by money
and controlled by vanity. They consume on the basis of men s standards. They are more like men s
accessories. Ultimately they become goals of men s sexual desire and victims of the society. Gender
relation is clearly established in this book.
In book, woman is commercialized and objectified by the male dominated society. When Lawrence
Selden first meets Lily Bart in train station, he is surprised by her appearance. He believes Everything
about her was at once vigorous and exquisite, at once strong and fine (Pg 5). This quote indicates that

Salt Marshes And Salt Marshes
Apparently, marshes are often imagined incorrectly. To some people, they might confuse a marsh to a
swamp or to a wetland. Although relative, marshes are only a kind of wetland, which is land where the
water level is close to the soil surface or covers the surface for at least part of the year. Marshes,
specifically salt marshes, are lush, intertidal grasslands renowned for their productivity (Silliman
2014). Simply, a salt marsh is a coastal ecosystem of grasses characterized by poorly drained mineral
soils due to regular flooding of salt water brought in by ocean tides. Since salt marshes serve as
estuaries between the land and ocean, people do not realize an important role they play in protection;
these coastal marshes are presumed to protect human communities from coastal hazards, such as
storms and hurricanes, by providing important ecosystem services. One very important ecosystem
service is their role as a buffer in protecting coastlines (Shepard et al. 2011). As humans fail to
appreciate and protect these marshes, their continuous impacts on coastal infrastructure would not
only negatively impact humans but to the life on the salt marshes as well. Salt marshes are found in
the temporal zone on protected shorelines throughout the world and are stressful environments due to
their intertidal behaviors. As a result, plants and animals living in salt marshes must have adaptations
to deal with the harsh physical stressors, ranging from high salt concentrations, intense heat, and low
oxygen in waterlogged soils (Sulliman 2014). Nevertheless, there is a positive trade off: although
plants and animals have to overcome these physical obstacles, they get access to abundant resources,
protection from predators, and a high potential for both them and their offspring in return. An example
of this trade off is investigated with a fish, a mummichog Fundulus heteroclitus, a resident of intertidal
salt marshes on the east coast of North America. The study suggests that mummichogs have the ability
to alter their habitat use accordingly to environmental factors, such as heat stress and oxygen
depletion, to create a predation refuge habitat, which would then allow high growth rates (Halpin
2000). Due to the stressful

Many individuals depend on the sound functioning of our banking system in order to pay bills, save,
invest, and provide for their future. When banks are unable to fulfill their duties to the economy due to
over speculation or poor risk assessment, it is the role of the regulators to step in and right the ship.
Once technology was introduced to the banking world many things changed. Banking and any
transactions related to banking had to be done in person. Along came the telephone, in which allowed
banking to be conducted at home or work. A phone call is what it took to have transaction
implemented. The age of ATM s (Automatic Teller Machines) allowed banking 24 hours a day. Debit
cards and Credit cards allowed us to transfer monies or put things on credit instantly. Next came the
era of online banking and electronic transfers of money, which allows us to take care of many other
transactions instantly. From the 1st day until today the every changing world of banking changes the
way we live and we do business.
Credit unions go back to 1852 in Germany. A credit union is mutual owned by the people who deposit
money into the credit union. Credit unions offer saving, loans, or credit and other financial services.

Ancient Roman Home
It is amazing to know that the concept of architectural design to homes had already flourished even in
ancient Rome. The layout and functions of every Roman homes were intricately laid out for the
comfort of its dwellers. The pattern and designs were made susceptible to the heat of the
Mediterranean climate. Therefore, it is typical among the houses of the ancient Rome to have an
atrium and peristylium. These two parts of the Roman house were important. Its primary function is to
ventilate the corridors and rooms. This types of houses were common designs in both urban and rural
areas. On other hand, there were also big houses which refers to villas, where the rich people lived. In
addition, there were also tenement houses where poor people live, particularly to the household
workers or slaves ( The Romans web, n.d).
Atrium is an open space with a garden on it. When it rains the water directly goes inside, so they had

The spaces in homes designed only for two purposes for dining (triclinium) and for sleeping
(cubiculum). The Greek influence in those dwellings was evident. In the front of the home most parts
of the house were named in Latin, however at the back of the house all parts of it were named in
Greek (Roman Empire.net, n.d).
In conclusion, we can see among the different types of houses in the ancient Rome the distinction and
gaps among the rich, middle class and the poor in terms of their homes. Villas and high end flats are
for the rich; town houses, for the middle class and filthy and dilapidated buildings were for the poor.
One thing I observed that if you are poor you must live in a dirty place and rich to a squeaky clean
abode. Even in our present time, this issue still prevails among many countries in the world. However,
is it possible for a poor person to live and breath in clean homes if they

Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization
Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization This paper aims to explore and confirm the ceremonial and
ritual importance of Theobroma cacao to the Maya civilization and its various uses therein. Firstly, I
will provide a brief overview of the cultural history of cacao, which is known as kakaw in the Maya
language. Next, I will examine the connection between cacao and ancient Maya religion, which is the
basis for its importance to the Maya culture. I will then discuss the ritual and ceremonial significance
of cacao and its forms of use, based on the analysis of Maya hieroglyphs and iconography, as well as
ethnohistorical, ethnographic, and other historical accounts, and the recent research by archaeologists
who have found cacao residues in ancient pottery. The cacao tree (Theobroma cacao L.) is native to
the northwest Amazon basin of South America and the wild species was spread by humans into
Southern Mexico and Central America, where it is thought to have been domesticated (Ogata et al.
2006). The data collected by Ogata et al. (2006) supports Mesoamerica as a center of cacao
domestication, but also suggests a possible secondary area of domestication in South America. At first,
only the cacao pulp was used for its sweet flavour, yet it wasn t until 1800 BC that the inhabitants of
this region discovered how to turn the cacao seeds into chocolate through a process of drying,
roasting, and grinding the cacao seeds (Coe and Coe 1996). By the time the Olmec civilization

The Importance Of A Transformational Leader As One Essay
Coleman (2005) describes a transformational leader as one who is a role model, building capacity in
others who follow. A leader with high standards of ethical and moral conduct.
These ideas have guided my leadership. Working with teachers I provide examples and feedback for
others to build on. As a principal, responsible for change, action research is an important component
of transforming our school and community culture. Thus, action research plays a strong influence in
the search for democracy and cross cultural leadership in my work environment.
Context/ Background.
Unearthing my own Maori and Pakeha identity has led me on a journey of discovery and interest in
early New Zealand social anthropology and ethnography. The literature of Elsdon
Best, Edward Tregear and S. Percy Smith has helped shape the hegemony of post colonial New
Zealand. Indeed, much of what I learned in high school about the history of New
Zealand came from their ethnographic research.

Analysis Of The Book Ole Miss Baseball
#7 Ole Miss baseball takes on #6 Vanderbilt in the winners bracket of the SEC tournament.
Ole Miss upset #2 seed South Carolina on day two, and took the game over #10 seed Georgia on day
one in an elimination game. The Rebels are set to face #6 seed Vanderbilt now on day three, and look
to advance to day four undefeated. The Rebels will have a tough road ahead of them, as Vanderbilt is
playing good baseball and fighting to lock up a regional in Nashville. So here is how the Rebels can
do it.
Stop the offensive power.

The Gamecock squad hit a whopping .290, while this Commodore squad only hits .274. South
Carolina did only hit 38 home runs this season, while Vanderbilt hit 40. Again, Bryan Reynolds led the
team in home runs with 12.
Who do the Rebels have to stop?
Reynolds struggles to hit the inside and low fastballs, so I would expect to see the Rebel pitching
squad try and take advantage of that. His arm is above average at best as well, so the Rebels should be
aggressive when rounding the bases and the ball is in his hand.
Reynolds has a good eye at the plate and does not swing at bad pitches. He is one of the most
disciplined batters in the league. [pullquote]He is very good at hitting the ball in the gap as well, but

It s important to observe the person you want to communicate with in order to see how they
communicate and how it may differ from you. Through observation, it s possible to establish which
language is being used, any sensory impairment and/or any disability be it physical, developmental or
cognitive. These characteristics may determine the use and/or interpretation of communication so it s
vital to understand and know each individual needs so effective communication can be made. For
example, when there is a language barrier, gestures and facial expressions may be emphasised when
trying to communicate towards one another or those with a hearing impairment may use sign language

Policies and Politics of Government in Charge of a Public...
Policies and Politics of Government in Change of a Public Agency:
Government policy can be described as the declaration that defines the objective of the priorities and
goals of the government. Since these policies outline the rules, role, and procedures, they develop a
framework in which the government and its citizens can carry out their specific duties. The public
policies are created by all governmental levels and target the entire population or particular groups.
The process of developing these policies involves the engagement of governmental officials and
citizens. On the other hand, politics of government provide the platform for the development,
establishment, and implementation of public policy. Therefore, the politics of government are the
platform with which public policies are adopted and implemented. Governmental policies and politics
play a critical role in the realization of change in a public agency since the policies are developed and
implemented at various levels (Dukeshire Thurlow, 2002). Since these policies may range from formal
regulations and legislation to informal guidelines in an agency, understanding them is important in the
achievement of change in a public agency. A Public agency basically functions based on the
established policies and politics in the government. Therefore, the accomplishment of the change in a
public agency requires an increased understanding of the politics and policies of government. It s

Research On Vigilance And Sustained Attention
Introduction:
Studies on vigilance and sustained attention have been a widely studied part of psychology since the
Second World War. This is because it was found that people monitoring radars for enemy ships
experienced what is now known as vigilance decrement. That is when the ability of a subject to detect
an abnormality during a task which primarily displays a normal screen. In the case of WWII radar
monitors, this was to detect when an enemy submarine entered the radar. (Helton, W. S. Russell, P. N.
(2012). ) After a short time, typically 20 30 minutes but in certain cases as little as 5 minutes,
vigilance decrement can occur. (Caggio, D. M., Parasuraman, R. (2004)). There are two main theories
commonly cited to explain this phenomenon, mindless theory and resource theory. Resource theory
says that the vigilance decrement is due to the exhaustion of brain resources required to maintain
focus on the task. Mindless theory simply explains vigilance depletion as being caused by
disengagement from the task due to boredom. (Helton, W. S. Russell, P. N. (2012).) The two theories
explain the same phenomenon much differently; resource theory says it s caused in part by cognitive
overload, while mindless theory suggests it s caused by cognitive under load causing boredom.
(Helton, W. S., Russell, P. N. (2015)). Resource theory is strongly supported by a wide array of
evidence from behavioural studies, mental workload studies, and brain imaging studies. When the

The House Of Bernarda Alba Themes
Freedom and Repression: How opposing themes go hand in hand In the play by Federico Garcia
Lorca, The House of Bernarda Alba, a recurring theme throughout the play is freedom. Lorca
expresses freedom using characters, situations and objects. The characters in the story are Bernarda s
daughters who are under her control and have extremely little freedom and privacy by being forced to
abide by her rules. Freedom and Repression are most significant themes conveyed throughout the

Martirio once had a man interested in her but that opportunity was snatched away from her by
Bernarda. On page 191 Poncia says, Martirio is lovesick, I don t care what you say. Why didn t you let
her marry enrique Humanas? Why, on the very day he was coming to her window did you send him a
message not to come? And Bernarda responded, ... My blood won t mingle with the Humanas while I
live! This is an example of how different Martirio s circumstances were from Adela and Angustias.
Martirio was repressed from her desire for freedom from her mother and became jealous when her
sister s were not denied in the same way. These two themes lead the characters to believe that escaping
one prison will make them free, only to be confined to another. This is the situation the women in the
play recognize as a inner conflict. An example of this is on page 169 when Amelia says, These days a
girl doesn t know whether to have a beau or not. Additionally, On page 208 Adela says, I can t stand
this horrible house after the taste of his mouth. I ll be what he wants me to be. This quote shows how
the girls view men as an escape from their sheltered home. Men represent freedom as well as
repression. For Example, On page 169 it says ... Her sweetheart doesn t let her go out even to the front
doorstep. This shows us that Bernarda s daughters realize if they stay at home forever, they will be
controlled by their mother,

The Beginning of Our Annual Beach Journeys
I can remember the day clearly as if it were yesterday. The sand covering my feet was shining brightly
with resilient sunlight. The tides crashed gently against the sand as if caressing it. The wind carried on
casually; at times I felt no breeze at all, as if the wind itself stopped for a second to enjoy the relaxing
scene. This day marked the beginning of our annual family beach journeys. I was 9 years old and was
overly obsessed with an old raggedy purse made out of old pillow cases and bed sheets. My mom was
a seamstress and I considered myself very lucky growing up being able to watch her work. Months
prior to our summer trip, for Christmas, I received a pink kid s mini sewing machine. I could feel the
enthusiasm bubbling inside me as I opened my gift. The patchwork on the purse was a display of
creativity on my first fashion accessory. Psychologically, this item brought to me so much comfort just
like my baby brother who was emotionally attached to his smelly, old blankey. It was the summer of
1996, when we arrived at Malaquite Beach in Corpus Christi, Texas. There were many other families
sitting at the beach sharing the warm summer day. We began to set up our area by creating some shade
with a wide, heavy beach canopy. My family came prepared with large coolers full of cold waters and
sodas. My sisters and I began applying plenty of sunblock, meanwhile, my dad and brother in laws
fired up the pit. There is nothing more enjoyable than playing with Frisbee s at the

The Cultural Impact Of Electricity And The World We Live
In today s world nothing is more important than the gadgets we use on a every day to day basis. What
we take for granted sometimes is the thing we use most and most importantly we use to charge
everything most of the time is some type of electricity. I hope to provide a clear and concise paper that
details and gives the cultural impact of electricity and the world we live. This paper will hit on three
topics reconstruction to the beginning of where man first began to harness electricity, how man used
this electricity to change the course of history as we know it, and the positives as well as the negatives
of electricity and the world we live in.
Electricity is a form of energy involving the flow of electrons. All matter is made up of atoms, and an
atom has a center, called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged particles called protons
and uncharged particles called neutrons (Joseph, 2002)The nucleus of an atom is surrounded by
negatively charged particles called electrons. The negative charge of an electron is equal to the
positive charge of a proton, and the number of electrons in an atom is usually equal to the number of
protons (Joseph, 2002).When the balancing force between protons and electrons is upset by an outside
force, an atom may gain or lose an electron. When electrons are lost from an atom, the free movement
of these electrons constitutes an electric current (Joseph, 2002). To understand electricity one must
know that it is not an invention but a

The Process and Factors of Wound Healing
Introduction
The skin, the biggest organ in the human body, has several vital functions, including sensation,
thermoregulation, protection and synthesis of vitamin D. Nurses would like to be knowledgeable
concerning what is thought of to be healthy skin (Pringle and Penzer2002). This is very important, as
the condition of the skin might typically be a sign of underlying disease (Casey 2002). Changes within
the skin may be one among the first indicators of an underlying health downside. Injury of either the
epidermis or the dermis can cause systemic infection, increased morbidity, increased value of care,
and negative psychosocial consequences (Schindler, Kuhn, Christopher, Conway, Ridling Simpson;
201one).
Wound healing is a dynamic, interactive method involving soluble mediators, blood cells, extracellular
matrix, and parenchymal cells. Wound healing has three phases: the inflammatory section, the
proliferative part, and the maturational or transforming phase. These phases could overlap in time
(Porth, 2011).
Inflammatory Phase
The inflammatory part starts at the time of injury with the formation of a blood clot and therefore the
migration of phagocytic white blood cells into the wound web site. The primary cells to arrive, the
neutrophils, ingest and take away bacteria and cellular debris. When twenty four hours, the neutrophils
are joined by macrophages, that still ingest cellular debris and play a necessary role in the production
of growth factors for the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Polio
In the summer of 1959 a seven year old came in from play feeling feverish and headachy. His mother
gave him aspirin (the drug of choice in that time) and put him to bed with what she imagined was the
flu. The next morning his condition had produced physical weakness in his legs. A visit to the doctor,
and a spinal tap, brought the devastating news: polio. He was rushed to the isolation ward of the
county hospital where his condition was judged to be very grave; the next morning, he could move
nothing but his head. This young boy, my great uncle Ken, spent his childhood years in and out of
hospitals, enduring surgeries, wheelchairs, leg braces, and years of physical therapy before he was
able to walk. Why, at a time when the Salk vaccine was available, did my great grandmother, a woman
totally dedicated to the welfare of her children, choose not to vaccinate him against what was then the
great terror of childhood?

Elo Boosting and the Impact it has on High and Low Level Play in League of Legends (Draft 1)
Ranked queue in League of Legends provides competitive players an arena in which they can test and
hone their skills against other like minded opponents and see how skilled they are relative to the rest
of their region and fellow gamers. It is a great environment for players who thrive in a competitive
atmosphere and players of all ranks receive some sort of reward, with larger rewards earned the higher
one s rank is. The most competitive players, who are often the highest ranked, earn prizes often in
cash, gaming hardware worth a significant amount of money or in game currency, glory and possibly
even a career. Unfortunately, there are a good amount of individuals that wish to bypass the trials of
ranked play and attain rewards that they themselves cannot earn. As in any competitive environment,
cheaters will inevitably exist and League of Legends is no exception. Those that do not wish to endure
the stress of ranked or are unable to climb with their own skill will cheat. This form of cheating in
League of Legends, called elo boosting, is highly frowned upon by the community and its developers,
is a punishable offense, undercuts the skill necessary to attain certain ranks and degrades the
sportsmanlike and competitive nature of the game at all tiers and divisions of the game.

The Purpose Of The Marshmallow Experiment
The Marshmallow Experiment was pioneered in the 1960s at the Stanford University daycare. It
introduces a connection between success in the future of young children by their ability to delay
gratification. This study has been operating for more than forty years and still more studies are being
added to test different variables such as studying an individual s emotional impulses and studying the
effects of changing the reliability of a child s environment during the marshmallow experiment. When
these variables are taken into account the result drastically changed. There have also been follow up
studies on the first participants with findings that explain the results of having low and high delayed
gratification. The purpose of the Marshmallow Experiment is to test how long a young child, typically
in the range of 3 5 years old for the experiment, could wait before giving into temptation. First, the
children were given one given a marshmallow by a researcher of the study, they were instructed to
wait to eat the marshmallow until the researcher came back. If they waited for a total of 15 minutes
the researcher would return with a second marshmallow. 2 out of 3 of the kids gave into temptation.
While, 1 out of 3 kids had enough willpower to distract themselves so that they could receive the
second treat. Several years later, researchers remained in contact with these subjects and found that the
high delayers, as they were referred to in Mia Szalavitz s article, The

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Drop Shipping
Drop shipping is a retail satisfaction strategy where a store doesn t keep the items it offers in stock.
Rather, when a store offers an item, it buys the thing from an outsider and has it transported

The liver, the gallbladder, and the pancreas are the three main organs in the digestive system in which food does not pass through. The small intestine, however uses all these enzymes to break down food chemically. Also, the small intestine has a lot of absorption. Absorption is the act of the digestive system absorbing, or taking in, nutrients that our body needs. The small intestine is responsible for a lot of absorption through finger like structures called villi. These villi also increase the surface area of the small intestine allowing for maximum absorption and chemical digestion. After the food leaves the small intestine it enters the large intestine. The initial events that come to mind are the Iraq war, Hurricane Matthew that is affecting the east coast currently, the San Bernardino terrorist attack, death of a child, and being a victim of a sexual assault. • 16. Salt Marshes And Salt Marshes Apparently, marshes are often imagined incorrectly. To some people, they might confuse a marsh to a swamp or to a wetland. Although relative, marshes are only a kind of wetland, which is land where the water level is close to the soil surface or covers the surface for at least part of the year. Marshes, specifically salt marshes, are lush, intertidal grasslands renowned for their productivity (Silliman 2014). Simply, a salt marsh is a coastal ecosystem of grasses characterized by poorly drained mineral soils due to regular flooding of salt water brought in by ocean tides. Since salt marshes serve as estuaries between the land and ocean, people do not realize an important role they play in protection; these coastal marshes are presumed to protect human communities from coastal hazards, such as storms and hurricanes, by providing important ecosystem services. One very important ecosystem service is their role as a buffer in protecting coastlines (Shepard et al. 2011). As humans fail to appreciate and protect these marshes, their continuous impacts on coastal infrastructure would not only negatively impact humans but to the life on the salt marshes as well. Salt marshes are found in the temporal zone on protected shorelines throughout the world and are stressful environments due to their intertidal behaviors. As a result, plants and animals living in salt marshes must have adaptations to deal with the harsh physical stressors, ranging from high salt concentrations, intense heat, and low oxygen in waterlogged soils (Sulliman 2014). Nevertheless, there is a positive trade off: although plants and animals have to overcome these physical obstacles, they get access to abundant resources, protection from predators, and a high potential for both them and their offspring in return. An example of this trade off is investigated with a fish, a mummichog Fundulus heteroclitus, a resident of intertidal salt marshes on the east coast of North America. The study suggests that mummichogs have the ability to alter their habitat use accordingly to environmental factors, such as heat stress and oxygen depletion, to create a predation refuge habitat, which would then allow high growth rates (Halpin 2000). • 21. Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization This paper aims to explore and confirm the ceremonial and ritual importance of Theobroma cacao to the Maya civilization and its various uses therein. Firstly, I will provide a brief overview of the cultural history of cacao, which is known as kakaw in the Maya language. Next, I will examine the connection between cacao and ancient Maya religion, which is the basis for its importance to the Maya culture. I will then discuss the ritual and ceremonial significance of cacao and its forms of use, based on the analysis of Maya hieroglyphs and iconography, as well as ethnohistorical, ethnographic, and other historical accounts, and the recent research by archaeologists who have found cacao residues in ancient pottery. The cacao tree (Theobroma cacao L.) is native to the northwest Amazon basin of South America and the wild species was spread by humans into Southern Mexico and Central America, where it is thought to have been domesticated (Ogata et al. 2006). The data collected by Ogata et al. (2006) supports Mesoamerica as a center of cacao domestication, but also suggests a possible secondary area of domestication in South America. At first, only the cacao pulp was used for its sweet flavour, yet it wasn t until 1800 BC that the inhabitants of this region discovered how to turn the cacao seeds into chocolate through a process of drying, roasting, and grinding the cacao seeds (Coe and Coe 1996). • 25. Policies and Politics of Government in Charge of a Public... Policies and Politics of Government in Change of a Public Agency: Government policy can be described as the declaration that defines the objective of the priorities and goals of the government. Since these policies outline the rules, role, and procedures, they develop a framework in which the government and its citizens can carry out their specific duties. The public policies are created by all governmental levels and target the entire population or particular groups. The process of developing these policies involves the engagement of governmental officials and citizens. On the other hand, politics of government provide the platform for the development, establishment, and implementation of public policy. Therefore, the politics of government are the platform with which public policies are adopted and implemented. • 26. Research On Vigilance And Sustained Attention Introduction: Studies on vigilance and sustained attention have been a widely studied part of psychology since the Second World War. This is because it was found that people monitoring radars for enemy ships experienced what is now known as vigilance decrement. That is when the ability of a subject to detect an abnormality during a task which primarily displays a normal screen. In the case of WWII radar monitors, this was to detect when an enemy submarine entered the radar. (Helton, W. S. Russell, P. N. (2012). ) After a short time, typically 20 30 minutes but in certain cases as little as 5 minutes, vigilance decrement can occur. (Caggio, D. M., Parasuraman, R. (2004)). There are two main theories commonly cited to explain this phenomenon, mindless theory and resource theory. Resource theory says that the vigilance decrement is due to the exhaustion of brain resources required to maintain focus on the task. Mindless theory simply explains vigilance depletion as being caused by disengagement from the task due to boredom. (Helton, W. S. Russell, P. N. (2012).) The two theories explain the same phenomenon much differently; resource theory says it s caused in part by cognitive overload, while mindless theory suggests it s caused by cognitive under load causing boredom. (Helton, W. S., Russell, P. N. (2015)). Resource theory is strongly supported by a wide array of evidence from behavioural studies, mental workload studies, and brain imaging studies. When the ... My blood won t mingle with the Humanas while I live! This is an example of how different Martirio s circumstances were from Adela and Angustias. Martirio was repressed from her desire for freedom from her mother and became jealous when her sister s were not denied in the same way. These two themes lead the characters to believe that escaping one prison will make them free, only to be confined to another. • 29. The Beginning of Our Annual Beach Journeys I can remember the day clearly as if it were yesterday. The sand covering my feet was shining brightly with resilient sunlight. The tides crashed gently against the sand as if caressing it. The wind carried on casually; at times I felt no breeze at all, as if the wind itself stopped for a second to enjoy the relaxing scene. This day marked the beginning of our annual family beach journeys. I was 9 years old and was overly obsessed with an old raggedy purse made out of old pillow cases and bed sheets. My mom was a seamstress and I considered myself very lucky growing up being able to watch her work. Months prior to our summer trip, for Christmas, I received a pink kid s mini sewing machine. I could feel the enthusiasm bubbling inside me as I opened my gift. The patchwork on the purse was a display of creativity on my first fashion accessory. Psychologically, this item brought to me so much comfort just like my baby brother who was emotionally attached to his smelly, old blankey. It was the summer of 1996, when we arrived at Malaquite Beach in Corpus Christi, Texas. There were many other families sitting at the beach sharing the warm summer day. We began to set up our area by creating some shade with a wide, heavy beach canopy. My family came prepared with large coolers full of cold waters and sodas. My sisters and I began applying plenty of sunblock, meanwhile, my dad and brother in laws fired up the pit. There is nothing more enjoyable than playing with Frisbee s at the ... What we take for granted sometimes is the thing we use most and most importantly we use to charge everything most of the time is some type of electricity. I hope to provide a clear and concise paper that details and gives the cultural impact of electricity and the world we live. This paper will hit on three topics reconstruction to the beginning of where man first began to harness electricity, how man used this electricity to change the course of history as we know it, and the positives as well as the negatives of electricity and the world we live in. Electricity is a form of energy involving the flow of electrons. All matter is made up of atoms, and an atom has a center, called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged particles called protons and uncharged particles called neutrons (Joseph, 2002)The nucleus of an atom is surrounded by negatively charged particles called electrons. The negative charge of an electron is equal to the positive charge of a proton, and the number of electrons in an atom is usually equal to the number of protons (Joseph, 2002).When the balancing force between protons and electrons is upset by an outside force, an atom may gain or lose an electron. When electrons are lost from an atom, the free movement of these electrons constitutes an electric current (Joseph, 2002). The Process and Factors of Wound Healing Introduction The skin, the biggest organ in the human body, has several vital functions, including sensation, thermoregulation, protection and synthesis of vitamin D. Nurses would like to be knowledgeable concerning what is thought of to be healthy skin (Pringle and Penzer2002). This is very important, as the condition of the skin might typically be a sign of underlying disease (Casey 2002). Changes within the skin may be one among the first indicators of an underlying health downside. Injury of either the epidermis or the dermis can cause systemic infection, increased morbidity, increased value of care, and negative psychosocial consequences (Schindler, Kuhn, Christopher, Conway, Ridling Simpson; 201one). Wound healing is a dynamic, interactive method involving soluble mediators, blood cells, extracellular matrix, and parenchymal cells. Wound healing has three phases: the inflammatory section, the proliferative part, and the maturational or transforming phase. These phases could overlap in time (Porth, 2011). Inflammatory Phase The inflammatory part starts at the time of injury with the formation of a blood clot and therefore the migration of phagocytic white blood cells into the wound web site. The primary cells to arrive, the neutrophils, ingest and take away bacteria and cellular debris. When twenty four hours, the neutrophils are joined by macrophages, that still ingest cellular debris and play a necessary role in the production of growth factors for the ... This young boy, my great uncle Ken, spent his childhood years in and out of hospitals, enduring surgeries, wheelchairs, leg braces, and years of physical therapy before he was able to walk. It introduces a connection between success in the future of young children by their ability to delay gratification. This study has been operating for more than forty years and still more studies are being added to test different variables such as studying an individual s emotional impulses and studying the effects of changing the reliability of a child s environment during the marshmallow experiment. When these variables are taken into account the result drastically changed. There have also been follow up studies on the first participants with findings that explain the results of having low and high delayed gratification. The purpose of the Marshmallow Experiment is to test how long a young child, typically in the range of 3 5 years old for the experiment, could wait before giving into temptation. First, the children were given one given a marshmallow by a researcher of the study, they were instructed to wait to eat the marshmallow until the researcher came back. If they waited for a total of 15 minutes the researcher would return with a second marshmallow. 2 out of 3 of the kids gave into temptation.
