Emancipation Proclamation Dbq
The Emancipation Proclamation was presidential executive order given by Abraham Lincoln on
January 1, 1963. It changed the Federal legal status of enslaved people in the South from slave to free.
This proclamation ordered all ten states to free slaves. This proclamation excluded areas not in the
rebellion. The reason these areas were excluded is because the proclamation was issued under the
president s authority to suppress rebellion and it was not passed by Congress as a law. The Southern
Confederate supporters were given sixty days to surrender their slaves or they would face confiscation
of their land and slaves. This proclamation did not ban slavery or grant citizenship to ex slaves. It was
intended to cripple the Confederacy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Battle of Gettysburg is one of the most important events to occur in the American Civil War. The
Federals were attacked by the Confederates from the left and the right. General Robert E. Lee learned
that the Army of Potomac was on its way and he assembled his army in the Harrisburg. When he
arrived, he found that two Union brigades had arrived the day before. By July 2nd, the Union Army
had strong forces in Culp s Hill and Cemetery Ridge. General Lee decided to attack the Federals
where they already were. It was a devastating defeat for the Confederates. The Union lost 23,000 men.
The Confederate lost 28,000 men. This battle turned the Civil War in the Union s favor. Major General
Ulysses S. Grant and his Army met on the Mississippi River in the Summer of 1863. They trapped a
Confederate Army under the control of Lt. Gen. John Pemberton. He surrendered to General Grant
because he was out numbered two to one. He surrendered on July 4th. Grant s activities at Vicksburg
was considered one of the most brilliant attacks of the war. This victory led to Grant being promoted

The Conflicted Linda Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Watching a solitary blade of grass will never tell you the direction of hurricane, just as one
characteristic can never describe Linda Loman. In Death of a Salesman, Linda Loman is a woman torn
between guilt, retaliation, and pity. Her guilt stems from the fact that she prevented Willy from
pursuing his true American Dream; she retaliates in response to Willy s failure; she feels sorry for
Willy, because he is a pitiful lone adventurer of the road (47). As the battling motivations blow from
opposing directions, the reader is left to decide to which one motivation Linda will succumb.
Willy is a source of guilt for Linda, because, in part, she blames herself for ... Show more content on

Willy undermines her authority with the boys. He denies any negative comments out of her mouth
when their children are discussed. He interrupts her. He shouts at her. Linda reacts with veiled hostility
to Willy?s disrespect. She laughs at the idea of planting a garden, pointing to Willy?s past failures at
growing a garden. Every time Linda pokes at his failures, she is retaliating against Willy?s failures and
the fact that she has been pulled into Willy?s dead end dream against her will.
When Linda refers to Willy as a little boat looking for a harbor, another wind blows against Linda,
pushing her to act with pity (1247). To her, he is nothing more than a small, helpless old man. She
blames the business for forgetting Willy in his old age, and passing him over like an orange peel.
Toward the end of Act I, Linda presents a sorry image of Willy, describing his past greatness as a
salesman and ending with a sad description of treachery. She tells her sons that Willy is exhausted
from driving 1400 miles without earning a penny, and that his reward from the ones he loved the most,
his sons, is spite and rejection (1237). The picture she paints of her husband is on filled with pity and
sorrow.
All the motivations conflict with each other constantly. On one hand, Linda more than loves her
husband, she admires him (1213). She wants to follow his dreams to the end, but at the same time

Vibration test of composite materials on the basis of measurement of dynamic properti
INTRODUCTION
On the basis of measurement of viscoelastic and dynamic properties, there are four important
parameter such as damping, relaxation, creep, and strain rate, which describes evidence of viscoelastic
behavior and can be calculated with the help of an experiment, but this paper describes the method of
test for the measurement of damping. In addition, the notation of complex modulus describes
conventionally for damping and dynamic stiffness of linear viscoelastic materials, where the methods
of vibration test are considered for measurement of complex moduli of composites. With the help of
this test of plates and beams to find dynamic elastic moduli also get evaluated.
In vibration test, notation for complex modulus is suitable for portrayal of dynamic behavior of linear
viscoelastic composites. The damping and stiffness which are the constituent part of the complex
modulus are belongs to the dynamic mechanical properties, which may be measured with the help of
experiments with vibration and wave propagation experiments ,and the measurement of the same is
considered for dynamic mechanical analysis.
However, there are many traps with respect to the different kind of techniques which must get
avoided. In example, there was a development of commercial dynamic mechanical analyzers for the
testing of small specimen of unreinforced low modulus polymers, and stiffness is generally

A World That Madeline Foo Is Tired Of An Artificial...
2092. A world that Madeline Foo is tired of. Firstly, she is tired of being in an artificial environment.
The plastic grass that was painted four times a year, the artificial trees that were programmed to grow
five centimetres a year. They were all fake. They cannot photosynthesize and transpire nor can they
produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. This showed the advancement in technology of this world
but it was reflected no more than a decaying city to Madeline. Secondly, self centred was just one of
the many few adjectives that Madeline used to describe her race. Kampong spirit and helping out one
another in need? It was all but a fantasy. Reality was much harsher. Humans of today are too
preoccupied with getting the latest technology and looking good to notice what is going on around
them. Madeline found humans no better than automatons programmed to wake up, work, eat and
sleep. They are hollow shells with no heart to feel and this was the thing that Madeline hated the most.
Humans have no feelings. They pursue pleasures without knowing what it was. They have no
compassion, no empathy, especially so when treating animals. Madeline got to her main point. She
never undergone cosmetic surgeries and treatment because of a very simple reason because animals
were part of this; because of the horrible ordeal that animals are put through for people to produce
such technology for human use. A visit to a laboratory decades ago had left a great impact on her. She

Impact Of Globalisation On Higher Education
Globalisation is the evolution of society which affect human life, education is one of those, especially
in postgraduate degrees which receive the most influence from globalisation. The development in
technologies and communication have produced a shift in learning system which affect cultures and
national economic growth. Higher education systems has been transformed by globalisation, which is
the widening, deepening and speeding up of worldwide interconnectedness (Held et al., 1999, p.14).
When examining the impact of globalisation on higher education all over the world, the positive and
negative aspects of this phenomenon have been widely mentioned. Some writers argue that
globalisation has the destructive effect to the postgraduate system in developing nations and non
English speaking developed nations (Marginson, 2006). Although the downsides of globalisation to
higher education remain highly controversial, the occurrence of this phenomenon could significantly
encourage national universities and governments to develop their standard of higher education which
will benefit to students (Damme, 2001). Globalisation could increase cultural exchange and
multicultural reality as well. This article sets out to analyse critically the overview of globalisation and
how it has valuable effects to higher education in long terms.
There are a large number of definitions for Globalisation which could have different meaning for
different people. According to Knight (2001), it

Contributions And Durkheim On Suicide
Émile Durkheim on suicide.
Émile Durkheim was a French sociologist, social psychologist and philosopher. Durkheim had an
important impact on the development of sociology. Durkheim s studies into suicide helped me in
understanding it as an issue in contemporary society. His most significant contribution was his work
defining suicide in social terms rather than individual terms. He was interested in how suicide might
be influenced more by social context and have a broader interpretation beyond the
individual.Durkheim wanted to prove that social situations, characteristics, activities, interactions etc,
influence and control individual and person behavior rather than the other way around. Durkheim
wrote a book called Le Suicide in 1897. This was a groundbreaking book in the field of sociology. In
this book Durkheim explores the differing suicide rates that are among society. In the book Durkheim
also distinguishes between four different types of suicide making is easier to understand. He talks
about the different rates of suicides and how they differ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of Durkheim s hypothesis involve some aspect of social state or social gender, age, occupation,
religion, marital status etc. He wanted to show that suicide was to be thought of in social terms not
individual terms which it had been thought as. Durkheim was seen as one of the Fathers of sociology
and his work is greatly admired. Durkheim s research and hypotheses have helped my understanding
of suicide in social terms and has helped me in seeing the different types of suicide and the different
rates. His work has shown me not only look at suicide from an individual point of view but to look at
the individuals social setting and social influences around them and see how those influences have

The International Monetary Fund Essay
1. Introduction
1.1 What is the International Monetary Fund (IMF)?
The International Monetary Fund is an organisation that provides short term credit to 186 member
nations. The International Monetary Fund works to maintain orderly payments arrangements between
countries and to promote growth of the world economy without inflation. It supports free trade in
goods and services. To stabilize its members economies, the IMF provides policy advice and short
term loans when a member nation encounters financial difficulty.

The cumulative effect of history on the institution has been rather more profound and requires a longer
and larger perspective.
The fixed but adjustable exchange rate system ended in August 1971 when President Nixon closed the
gold window, ending the U.S. commitment to keep the dollar price of gold at $35 per ounce. In 1973
the month of March, major countries agreed that the fixed exchange rate system would not be
restored. Thereafter, currency values would be determined in various ways ranging from freely
floating exchange rates at one end to firmly fixed exchange rates at the other. By then, many countries
had removed exchange controls on both trade and capital movements. The international economy
faced a new challenge; they had to reconcile growth, low inflation and high employment with open
trading arrangements and international capital mobility. The oil shocks of the 1970s and the mistaken
economic policies in many countries that produced large deficits and inflation increased the difficulty
of achieving these goals and objectives. Nothing in the founding mission or the accumulated
experience of the IMF prepared it to deal with these evolving challenges.

Persuasive Essay On Medical Progress
We live in an age where a medical breakthroughs happens every few days, and new discoveries are put
into practice. We continue to progress with medicine, because we discover new techniques and
medications to help medical progress grow. Through clinical trials and laboratory testing, they show
how it will react and if it is a safe way to use them. Medical progress is where health care
professionals record details and achievements during the patient s care and how far medicine and
medical technology (like CT and MRI machines) have progressed from years ago. Medicine, over the
past few years, has advanced and improved the quality of life of many people s lives, but because of
that, there is now a limit on how far medicine will progress in the future. My mother, Carrie, recently
had to undergo a hysterectomy, and was supposed to have this surgery before my little sister had been
born in July of 2007. This is a surgical procedure in which a woman s uterus is removed and they are
usually performed by a Gynecologist. My mother only has two small scars from it, one scar on her
right hip and one on her left hip. She woke up about an hour after her surgery and was able to go home
just a few hours after because of the anesthetics that they gave her. The doctors gave my mom

medical advancements have improved lives is using the generic medication. This has saved the U.S.

Short term vs. long term success.
Yahoo was a short term success because it built a brand around a hard attribute, search. But it is failing
in the long term because it failed to differentiate the role of a product brand vs. a company brand.
As a company, Yahoo should have jumped on every new development on the internet with a new
strategy and a new brand name and a new website using that brand name. Not by expanding the Yahoo
product brand, but by expanding the Yahoo company brand with additional, narrowly focused product
brands.
The future belongs to multiple brand companies, but with a caveat. A multiple brand company still
needs a focus. Compare the focused Apple company brand with other high tech companies.

The American Culture And Values
Critiquing American Culture and Values: (The Social) Network The emergence of novel forms of
communication in American history tends to produce two contrasting reactions: general acceptance
from society and moral outrage from a limited, vocal portion of the public. As a medium, film was met
in such a fashion with the creation of the Production Code Administration in 1934, designed by
Catholic leaders to uphold their conception of American values. At the same time, the example of
Middletown depicted a rural community incorporating the experience of film into their regular lives,
treating it as entertainment alongside shows at the opera house. Decades later, we see film utilized to
criticize the social impact of emerging communicative methods, including television and social media
in the form of Network (1976) and The Social Network (2010). A method of universal programing, by
which centralized, censored content is broadcast in synchronous to an audience discriminant only by

Because of Edna s heightened sexuality, desire for independence, and awakenings ,
The
Awakening created a series of controversy leading to the book being censored (Overview). Edna,
defying race, sex, and class, inspired women across the world to pursue their own sexuality and
independence (

In the end, the theme of solitude as the consequence of independence arises because of the fact that the
main character, Edna Pontellier, senses a feeling of solitude after becoming independent that led to her
suicide (SparkNotes). Along with the theme of solitude as the consequence of independence, the
theme of the implications of self
expression also becomes present through the different ways Edna

Risk and Return Analysis
1.1 INTRODUCTION Every investment is characterised by return and risk. The concept of risk is
intuitively understood by investors. In general, it refers to the possibility of incurring a loss in a
financial transaction. But risk involves much more than that. The word risk has a definite financial
meaning. The possibility of variation of the actual return from the expected return is termed risk.
Corporate securities and government securities constitute important investment avenues for investors.

Existentialism, Nihilism, And Objectivism
From the beginning of time people have pondered existence and what it means to truly Be , indeed the
most important questions that one can ask are those of a metaphysical nature. The deeper questions
that seek to explain the reason we re here in the first place, if for any reason at all. It s easy to get lost
in the many differing theories proposed from Determinism to Rationalism to Solipsism to Absurdism
the possible theories one can ascribe as correct are endless. But the ones that try to answer those big
questions in the most general of terms are the ones that seem to hold the most verisimilitude.
Existentialism, Nihilism, and Objectivism are the most general, and although quite different they are
also quite similar. But existentialism seems to be the one which offers the most hope for optimism or
any concern for altruism and personal growth.
To begin with it should be taken into consideration the circumstances in which humanity found itself
in when these sort philosophical musings of ontology became so prevalent among the society of
thinkers and intellectuals. With the turbulence and constant change of the late 19th and 20th century it
only makes sense that people would begin to wonder what it all really means. With wars, genocide,
and poverty contrasted against the unprecedented industrial and technological advances of the time not
to mention the exponential growth in some populations, it became easier and easier to lose one s

Reaction Paper On Cellular Respiration
Cellular respiration is the oxidation of organic compounds that occurs within cells, producing energy
for cellular processes (Dictionary.com, 2017) . The process of cellular respiration occurs in three
phases. The first process is called Glycolysis and is the breakdown of glucose in the cytoplasm. The
next process is the pyruvate molecules transported into the mitochondria (aka powerhouses of the
cells), the pyruvate are then converted into 2 carbon molecules and enter the Krebs cycle. Finally the
energy enters the electron transport chain and the energy is used to produce ATP (CK 12, 2017). The
lungs co operate with cellular respiration as the lungs produce oxygen which is vital in helping the
process of turning glucose into ATP.
The process of the respiratory system begins at the nasal cavity and mouth where air is inhaled. The
air then passes through the sinuses located in the skull which regulate the humidity and temperature as
someone breathes (Zimmermann, Live Science, 2016). The air is filtered in the trachea (windpipe) and
then enters the lungs through a system of pipes called the bronchi. The bronchi are located at the end
of the trachea as the left or right bronchi. The bronchi branch throughout the lungs eventually forming
thin walled air sacs or bubbles, known as the alveoli ( Respiratory System, 2017). In the alveoli gas
exchange takes place between the air and blood. Covering each alveolus is a network of blood vessel
called capillaries, which are small

Fast Food Nation By Eric Schlosser
Meat Packers or Criminals Slaughter houses started in urban areas close to the railroads and shipping
ports. Cattle and other livestock arrived by railroad. After the animals were slaughtered, they would be
shipped to meat counters around the country and overseas. In his book Fast Food Nation, Eric
Schlosser writes about the changes in the meatpacking industry. Among those changes, Schlosser
explains, Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) changed the entire meatpacking industry by turning the business of
slaughtering animals into an assembly line. Meatpacking no longer requires skilled workers because
each employee is only responsible for one small part of the whole; therefore, training an employee is
easy and inexpensive (153). The meat packing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The top four meatpacking businesses hold 20 percent of the nation s cattle in company owned feedlots
or cattle bought before hand, sometimes using secret pricing contracts (138). These farmers are doing
everything they can to make a living. This includes rotation practices that big companies would never
care about. Small business today is changing from a mentality of all success and forget about the
consequences; to a more earth friendly thought process that asks how the company can do business
longer. Schlosser writes, the small rancher today has more in common with environmentalist than they
do with huge cattle lots and meat packers (134). Small ranchers invest in the land and need to preserve
it to continue just making a living not a profit. Schlosser explains,
Hank was practicing a form of range management inspired by the grazing patterns of elk and buffalo
herds, animals who d lived for millennia on this short grass prairie. His ranch was divided into thirty
five separate pastures. His cattle spent ten or eleven days in one pasture, then were moved to the next,
allowing the native plants, the blue grama and buffalo grass, time to recover (134).

Incidents At Lot s House On Gays
It seems apparent that these weren t just angels who took on the mere appearance of men. They were
angels that either took on a substantive and tangible human likeness or were sanctioned by God to

to intentions involving sodomy, I have a real problem with explaining away their motivations as
merely homosexual urges in nature. First off, the verse seems to clearly indicate that this was ALL the

to doubt that these two angels were beautiful men, especially if they were just taking on the form of
men. But to suddenly have ALL of the men of the city ready to break down the door to get

Ocean Oil Spill Essay
There have been many oil spills in the ocean, some big and some small. All of these oil spills have had
a huge effect on the wildlife in the ocean. The oil from the oil rig stays on the surface of the water
because oil is less dense than the water, this causes the oil to just float cause it can t go anywhere else
and it won t mix in with the water. This is harmful in so many different ways to the life in the ocean.
The oil can prevent sunlight from penetrating the surface, which can cause it to be dark under the
surface. The oil also can cover thousands of birds, mammals, and sea turtles. When birds land in the
water they become covered in oil. The oil ruins the insulating and waterproofing properties of the fur
and feathers, and without feathers

Narrative Essay On Hawaii Culture
We don t need to chant! our site manager Robert said.
This is part of my culture Kama, my team leader retorted.
Robert sneered, We re here to work, not to pray. Only two weeks passed since I joined Kupu to
volunteer for seven weeks. My team started our first day working in the forest. Although I joined this
program to save Hawaii s environment, I found myself lodged between cultures when at 4 a.m. Kama
woke us to chant.
Why don t haoles respect our culture? Kama asked Robert. As the only non Native member of my
group, I felt removed from the others. I am haole, foreign. I lacked exposure to their culture. His tribal
tattoos, hunting knives and Pidgin English intimidated me. Around my team, I felt pretentious. I

Surprised, he responded, E Ala E , it s a prayer, to make the sun rise in the east. He paused, and in a
deep and soulful voice, he chanted, E ala e, ka la i ka hikina. I joined in, as the rest of the team
followed. Kama added, Sing till the sun rises. Then, as the sun appeared, the profound resonance in
our voices sent shivers down my spine. Kama turned to me, Mahalo me ke aloha la [thank you].
Throughout the week, Robert made us work hard. My relationship with my teammates changed, and
their demeanor no longer intimidated me. I developed an appreciation for the Hawaiian culture. While
Kama and I worked in the forest, he taught me about the native plants, the maile vines that climbed the
trees. I learned to make a lei, through Wili, a process of knotting.
One day, I wound vines together and went to Kama and said, I don t know a lot about native culture,
but I love this group. As I placed the maile lei around his neck, he said, Being native isn t about race,
it s about attitude. You may not be Hawaiian, but you are Hawaiian in your heart. I realized sensitivity
and respect goes a long way. A gesture of friendship overcame barriers. I no longer feared my heritage
or theirs. I said to my friend, Mahalo me ke aloha

Yes. When caught, the copyright owner ¥§may then choose between actual damages, which includes

Essay about Prohibition vs War on Drugs
The United States of America ˆs war on drugs today is very similar to America ˆs
Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920 ˆs. These two major issues of their time may not seem like they
can be logically compared, but statistics for usage and a correlating rise in crime for both eras show a
strong relationship. There is also a tendency for an outright defiance of the laws and law makers of the
United States government in both cases. Most people today think that the prohibition of the 1920 ˆs
and the current war on drugs have many contrasting points. The opposite is true. However, the points
that do contrast are more opinion based than fact oriented. The following paragraphs will attempt to
clearly and effectively show a comparison and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A change was clearly needed and the government responded by redefining the Volstead Act. The
redefinition made any drink containing more than 3.2% alcohol illegal. Wine, because of its lower
alcohol content, became very popular and sales soared. Then on December 5th,
1933, thirty three states ratified the 21st Amendment to the Constitution which repealed the 18th
Amendment. Drinking, and the sale of alcohol were once again legal in the United States.
A summary of the war the United States is waging on drugs is necessary before any comparison and
contrast position can be made with the Prohibition Era.
In the past several decades, millions of people in America have become involved in illegal drugs,
either through usage or through the importation, manufacture, sale and distribution of these illegal
substances. According to United States Justice Department statistics, of the millions of Americans who
use illegal drugs today, 2.7 million of these people are hard core drug abusers. The hard core drugs
that enjoy the most popularity are crack, cocaine and heroin all of which are highly addictive.
Addiction increases consumption and consumption increases the necessity to provide the drugs. It is
an illegal example of a supply and demand scenario.
While drugs attract users in all economic levels, it appears to be especially prevalent among those
living in poverty. One possible explanation is that at the poverty level there is little

My Experience With The Common Kings Concert
It was just your average beautiful Saturday morning. Waking up that morning I had the intention that it
would be just a good, chill, laid back type of day. I go to unlock my phone and notice my phone going
crazy with texts. My friends all decided to go to a concert. Not any ordinary concert, the Common
Kings concert. Common Kings was the type of band that made the feel good type of music. Every
time I would turn on their station my heart fills with happiness. With no time to think, I immediately
go to check their site if it was sold out show. My heart pumping with excitement, I go to see that there
are still tickets available to purchase! I quickly inform my dad about this and he seemed to be just as
excited as I was. With a solid hour or two to get myself put together, I anxiously go and grab my
phone and put their station on blast. In that moment my heart was racing with such excitement. I
quickly hop in the hot steamy shower belting out to one of my favorite songs by them. In no time I
was ready for one of the best nights of my life. At around five in the evening my friends came by to
pick me up. I said all my farewells for the night to my family, hopped in the car, and we drove off. I
couldn t even explain my happiness level. I was on cloud nine. Belting out to the whole album on the
way to the venue, we drive through the beautiful city of roses. Roaming past the dazzling skyline

Mark s Great Commission Research Paper
Mark s Great Commission Out of all three Synoptic Gospel s, Mark s Gospel is the shortest as well as
the first Gospel to be written. . Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of
Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a
commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are similar, Mark is
the only gospel that addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel. In Matthew s
gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesus teachings, and all nations of the world.
On the other hand, Mark s gospel focuses on preaching, good news, and reaching every creature. The
differences discovered between the two gospels are not contradictory, but rather, they complement
each other and give added insight to the church. George Peters maps out Mark s Gospel in three
categories

teachers and preachers who are in the world and church today it is imperative that the true and living
Christ be preached correctly and effectively. Secondly, the gospel of Christ should not be altered to fit

Filariasis has no clear vaccine. Thus, the best way to eradicate the disease is by eliminating
microfilaria from the infected individuals, which therefore will interrupt the process of transmitting
the infection by the mosquito. Administration of diethylcarbamazine concurrently with albendazole or
invermectin (DEC) is proven to eliminate 99% of microfilaria from the infected individual. Albeit
advance treatment of this disease is currently available, vigorous action should be taken by the
communities and the respective agencies to abolish all potential breeding sites for mosquitoes.
WHO classify this disease a disease of the poor, due to its pervasiveness to occur in remote rural
areas. Thus, if I were to construct two premises on filariasis, I would say; first, to have a filariasis is to
live in poverty. Second, people are infected by filariasis. And therefore, I would conclude that those
who are infected by filariasis are most likely to live in poverty. As has been stated by the WHO, the
fight to eliminate filariasis is also a fight against poverty .
Malaria is another example of vector borne infectious disease that uses mosquitos as vectors and
would infects the blood. Malaria remains a big problem in many sub tropical and tropical countries.
The United States is considered Malaria free since it has been eradicated in this country since early
1950 s. However, over 1300 cases of malaria, including 8 deaths were reported in 2002.

Oppression In Lolita
In Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, Humbert Humbert is a disgusting pedophile who took Lolita s self
worth as he realizes his mistake as he is locked in prison until he dies. People are mistreated every
day, but still rely on the abuser. Lolita may seem like a victim but she is really in control of everything
which is seen in her controlling where they go, her manipulation of Humbert, and leaving right as
soon as Humbert was not of any use to her.
Reading through the story, people will think or see that Lolita is an innocent little girl who is a victim
of Humbert. She was just a child who knew nothing (43). She is seen as any other child who likes to

he was her mother s husband (147). She wanted to escape from him and when she had the chance
from Quilty, she took it. She takes advantage of any kind of moment she can get, so she can have the
life she wanted and she knows that she does not deserve the life she is having. By starting over would
mean she will have a happy life and she thought she did when her and Humbert began their extensive
travel all over the States (102). The life she wanted was showing and that is why she did everything
that Humbert wanted him to do and she thought it would work out like she thought. By travelling, she
will be able to go to places and will see where she wanted to go live at and start the life she wanted.
She is like that, because of how Humbert is firmly resolved to pursue my policy of sparing her purity
(89). She notices that Humbert treats her as an object instead of an individual and she does not like
that, that is why she is trying to get away from him. Trying to get away from Humbert is a first step
for her, so she can find a new person who can actually treat her like she deserve it and will treat her
like a person. This is why Lolita is the way she is, because she knows her childhood is being ruined by
Humbert and she just wanted to leave him so she can start

Analysis Of Gang Related
After many mixtapes and nearing the edge of household name status, Maryland rapper Logic drops his
first album. In this album is a song titled Gang Related. This song tells the story of what environment
and household he grew up in. His brother is in a gang and sells cocaine to his father in front of him.
Logic s mother is in an out of mental institutions, all the while logic is growing up and trying not to
get shot when he walks outside. With drugs and gangs all around him, it is quite amazing that he got
out and become a famous rapper. Gang Related also has a core message of stopping the violence,
which leads to a question, is this song about his story or a message about ending the violence? Gang
Related starts out with logic saying Yeah, livin life like this/ Gotta paint a picture when I write like
this/ Tales from my hood, not a sight like this . Early on it would seem that this song is clearly about
telling a story. Use of the terms of painting a picture and tales is a classic way to talk about telling a
story. Through this first verse, logic grows up from being a baby to teenage waking up in the middle
of the night thinking there is an intruder. In most stories, growing up and changing is common. In the
second verse, he switches to the view of his brother, who does whatever needed to keep his family
safe. Logic uses a common way of telling a story, by changing view point. In this first verse, he only
allows the audience to see him as a scared boy unsure of this

Mothership Zeta is the final bit of DLC for Fallout and after the previous four attempts I was hoping
that Bethesda had learned enough to let this one end with a bang. The premise is certainly promising
enough. Your character follows a strange signal that leads to a crashed alien ship but before you can
loot anything you are abducted and stripped of all belongings. Aliens are hardly newcomers to the
Fallout universe but an entire DLC set aboard an alien space ship came as a surprise. I guess space
really was the final frontier for Fallout 3 after all the adventures on, around and below the capitol

Personal Assessment Of Strengths And Areas For Development
What did you learn about your leadership? Personal Assessment of Strengths and Areas for
Development. I have more than one overdone strengths. One of them is over optimism about people,
organization, and trust in the management team. Whether it s upper level, or middle management, I
always feel that they know the best, and they know what they are doing. I only see that everything is
done accurately as they are versus how they could or should be. Remaining loyal to others and the
organization does cause issues for me, because others don t normally see it that way. Trying to make
things easier for others, or trying to be less of a burden on others is perceived as I have no backbone of
myself. Defending the rights of others is seen as I m just always siding with the others. Ensuring
others are valued is seen as what do I need from them. Being sincere is seen as I don t know what I m
doing, and am very easy to please, so I can be ignored. Involve family and friends to point out to me
when I m over using my strengths. This will make me aware of what I really need to concentrate on.
This will help me focus and align my strengths on the needs of everyone, and the organization, and
concentrate on other people who have complementary strengths. Realization that my overdone
strengths could in fact be detrimental to not only my progress, but also others. In general, overdoing it
may hurt my effectiveness just as much as underdoing it. I have to be more cognizance of how others

Family As A Traditional Family
Family
Language constantly evolves and changes as it is adopted by different cultures. Consequently, words
have many definitions, connotations and origins. Family is a term that has changed over time; as a
result the traditional definition of family is inadequate, and limited to describe the modern version of
the term. Our society tends to attach itself to the traditional conceptualization of family better know as
a nuclear family which includes a set of parents, and their biological offspring (Kompara). In America,
known as a melting pot of all cultures and races, there are many implications for the word family thus
there is no such thing as a traditional family. The traditional definition, which is limited parents and
their children, can no longer be used to describe an American family because of our diverse and
changing familial structures.
The word family dates back to the 13th century and is derived from Old French word famelie ( Family
). The word originally defined the relationship of group of people living under the same roof,
household [including servants] (1337), group of people related by blood, lineage (1442 4), a group of
people who share a common philosophy (1658) ( Family ). Growing up in a different country, my
culture taught me an immediate family only consists of a mother, a father and siblings. But in America
it s not as simple because there are many variants of a family.
American families are the most diverse, encompassing gay/lesbian

A Common Trope Within International Relations That Is Often
A common trope within international relations that is often discussed by analysts and average
individuals alike, is the inevitable decline of American power. Delving into this trope in his book, IS
THE AMERICAN CENTURY OVER?, Joseph S. NYE, JR, argues that the period of American pre
eminence in military, economic, and soft power resources is not over (116). In structuring his
argument, Nye first analyzes Europe, Japan, Brazil, and India and their potential role in challenging
America s ability to maintain an international order. Then, Nye turns his attention towards China, and
comparatively analyzes its military, economic, and soft power to that of the United States. Conversely,
Nye explores potential American responses to China s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within these terms, Nye contextualizes his argument. For example, Nye explains that though China s
economic and military power allow it to be a more of a potent threat than other challenger, it has a
host of domestic issues, ranging from an underdeveloped countryside to rapid industrialization (50).
Even if China were to overcome its domestic problems, which would translate to an increase in
Chinese economic power, a preponderant role for China in the world economy would not equate to a
Chinese hegemony. It s political and military actions would still have to account for the United States.
Through dissecting how any economic advantage China has over America is negligible, as it comes at
a price for it as well, Nye makes the argument that interdependence constrains China into working
with America in maintaining the international order, rather than working against it. As the United
States derives power from the dollar, much has been said about China s massive holding of dollars,
and how it could potentially use it as a bargaining chip in its relationship with the United States.
However, Nye claims that in the interdependent relationship between the nations, power depends on
asymmetries in interdependence (54). Thus, if China were to dump its dollars on world financial
markets, it could bring America to its knees, but it would also bring

What Is Yossarian s Point Of View In Catch 22
The novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is about a man named Yossarian who during the second half of

Always looking for a way out, Yossarian claims that he is insane, only to find out that by claiming that
he is insane he has proved that he is obviously sane since any sane person would claim that he or she
is insane in order to avoid flying bombing missions. Elsewhere, Catch 22 is defined as a law that is
illegal to read. Ironically, the place where it is written that it is illegal is in Catch 22 itself. It is yet
again defined as the law that the enemy is allowed to do anything that one can t keep him from doing.
In short, then, Catch 22 is any paradoxical, circular reasoning that catches its victim in its illogic and

Foraging Affects The American Culture
Foraging affects the American Culture because sometimes it is hard for them to be able to find food
for the families to be able to eat. Everyone has to work together as a family and help one another to be
able to survive with being able to find food for everyone. Some of the American Cultures have
different methods they that use in order to be able to find food. Foraging is a mode of livelihood base
on obtaining food that is available in nature methods such as gathering, hunting, fishing or scavenging
(Miller, 2013). Sometimes they do not have difficulties with finding food so a lot of times they will
just have to hunt for food. Fr example, they will collect different things from a nearby river such as
fish or and small species that they see that they can eat. The men are the ones that do most of the
hunting of the big animals because the big animals go a long way. In order for the American Cultures
they have to be prepared. They have to rely on a diverse set of tools used for gathering, transporting
and processing wild food (Miller, 2013). They need tools in order to be able to catch food so that they
are able to eat and so that they are able to plant things in the ground such as corn, potatoes, tomatoes,
and different kinds of fruits. When the American cultures are hunting, they have to make sure that they

Critical Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream
Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows
four characters as they struggle with, and eventually succumb to their different addictions. This leads
to the characters imprisonment in a world of delusions and reckless desperation that is eventually
overtaken by reality. The film makes effective use of imagery and sound to create the feeling of the
film reeling towards the end at an impossible pace. By the end of the movie, the characters are
completely changed: withered, broken, and alone. Requiem for a Dream was screened at the 2000
Cannes film festival, and was met with primarily positive reviews.
Darren Aronofsky created the feeling of the film speeding up by shortening the length of the scenes as
the film progresses. At the beginning of the movie scenes are 90 seconds to 2 minutes in length, and it
s by shortening the length of scenes and frames that he created a sense of unease within the audience.
It s also reflective of the emotional states of the characters. At the beginning of the film, the characters
aren t necessarily too far gone to be saved. They still have time for each other, for their future, and
their plans. But as the scenes shorten their chances of saving themselves become slimmer. They
characters find themselves more and more alone as they becomes slaves to their addiction, doing
whatever they can to get their next fix.
Requiem for a dream is split between two primary narratives which center on

Preparing For Senior Night, My Last Home Volleyball Game
Preparing for senior night, my last home volleyball game, I found myself sorting through pictures of
my high school years and noticed a recurring theme: a bittersweet memory, my walking boot. As silly
as it may sound, I have derived much of my identity from this boot. When I meet new classmates, they
ask about the status of my injury. How is your foot? Can you play volleyball again? I cannot blame
them for noticing my bum ankle. For more than a year (on and off), a bulky, grey piece of plastic
masked the lower half of my leg. For a part of this time, I even rode through the hallways on a rented
medical scooter that my friends affectionately dubbed Ricky Bobby. This boot, the thing that once
caused me anxiety is now a symbol of my determination. Additionally, it opened my eyes to the field I
want to spend the next chapter of my life pursuing: physical therapy. The summer before my junior
year, I worked harder than I ever had to train for my first varsity season. Immediately after an intense
run, I would go home and ice my ankle to relieve the pain that I ignored during the workout itself.
Push through; I would tell myself, be strong! I thought that I was being strong by working through the
pain. Sports media always praises the athletes who played the championship game on a broken foot or
a sprained ankle, but you never hear about the kid who trains through the everlasting two a days of
preseason and never makes it to the first game. I thought that by pushing

  • 2. Emancipation Proclamation Dbq The Emancipation Proclamation was presidential executive order given by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1963. It changed the Federal legal status of enslaved people in the South from slave to free. This proclamation ordered all ten states to free slaves. This proclamation excluded areas not in the rebellion. The reason these areas were excluded is because the proclamation was issued under the president s authority to suppress rebellion and it was not passed by Congress as a law. The Southern Confederate supporters were given sixty days to surrender their slaves or they would face confiscation of their land and slaves. This proclamation did not ban slavery or grant citizenship to ex slaves. It was intended to cripple the Confederacy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Conflicted Linda Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Watching a solitary blade of grass will never tell you the direction of hurricane, just as one characteristic can never describe Linda Loman. In Death of a Salesman, Linda Loman is a woman torn between guilt, retaliation, and pity. Her guilt stems from the fact that she prevented Willy from pursuing his true American Dream; she retaliates in response to Willy s failure; she feels sorry for Willy, because he is a pitiful lone adventurer of the road (47). As the battling motivations blow from opposing directions, the reader is left to decide to which one motivation Linda will succumb. She laughs at the idea of planting a garden, pointing to Willy?s past failures at growing a garden. Every time Linda pokes at his failures, she is retaliating against Willy?s failures and the fact that she has been pulled into Willy?s dead end dream against her will. When Linda refers to Willy as a little boat looking for a harbor, another wind blows against Linda, pushing her to act with pity (1247). To her, he is nothing more than a small, helpless old man. She blames the business for forgetting Willy in his old age, and passing him over like an orange peel. Toward the end of Act I, Linda presents a sorry image of Willy, describing his past greatness as a salesman and ending with a sad description of treachery. She tells her sons that Willy is exhausted from driving 1400 miles without earning a penny, and that his reward from the ones he loved the most, his sons, is spite and rejection (1237). Vibration test of composite materials on the basis of measurement of dynamic properti INTRODUCTION On the basis of measurement of viscoelastic and dynamic properties, there are four important parameter such as damping, relaxation, creep, and strain rate, which describes evidence of viscoelastic behavior and can be calculated with the help of an experiment, but this paper describes the method of test for the measurement of damping. In addition, the notation of complex modulus describes conventionally for damping and dynamic stiffness of linear viscoelastic materials, where the methods of vibration test are considered for measurement of complex moduli of composites. With the help of this test of plates and beams to find dynamic elastic moduli also get evaluated. In vibration test, notation for complex modulus is suitable for portrayal of dynamic behavior of linear viscoelastic composites. The damping and stiffness which are the constituent part of the complex modulus are belongs to the dynamic mechanical properties, which may be measured with the help of experiments with vibration and wave propagation experiments ,and the measurement of the same is considered for dynamic mechanical analysis. However, there are many traps with respect to the different kind of techniques which must get avoided. In example, there was a development of commercial dynamic mechanical analyzers for the testing of small specimen of unreinforced low modulus polymers, and stiffness is generally ... The plastic grass that was painted four times a year, the artificial trees that were programmed to grow five centimetres a year. They were all fake. They cannot photosynthesize and transpire nor can they produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. This showed the advancement in technology of this world but it was reflected no more than a decaying city to Madeline. Secondly, self centred was just one of the many few adjectives that Madeline used to describe her race. Kampong spirit and helping out one another in need? It was all but a fantasy. Reality was much harsher. Humans of today are too preoccupied with getting the latest technology and looking good to notice what is going on around them. Madeline found humans no better than automatons programmed to wake up, work, eat and sleep. They are hollow shells with no heart to feel and this was the thing that Madeline hated the most. Humans have no feelings. They pursue pleasures without knowing what it was. They have no compassion, no empathy, especially so when treating animals. Madeline got to her main point. Impact Of Globalisation On Higher Education Globalisation is the evolution of society which affect human life, education is one of those, especially in postgraduate degrees which receive the most influence from globalisation. The development in technologies and communication have produced a shift in learning system which affect cultures and national economic growth. Higher education systems has been transformed by globalisation, which is the widening, deepening and speeding up of worldwide interconnectedness (Held et al., 1999, p.14). When examining the impact of globalisation on higher education all over the world, the positive and negative aspects of this phenomenon have been widely mentioned. Some writers argue that globalisation has the destructive effect to the postgraduate system in developing nations and non English speaking developed nations (Marginson, 2006). Although the downsides of globalisation to higher education remain highly controversial, the occurrence of this phenomenon could significantly encourage national universities and governments to develop their standard of higher education which will benefit to students (Damme, 2001). Globalisation could increase cultural exchange and multicultural reality as well. This article sets out to analyse critically the overview of globalisation and how it has valuable effects to higher education in long terms. Durkheim had an important impact on the development of sociology. Durkheim s studies into suicide helped me in understanding it as an issue in contemporary society. His most significant contribution was his work defining suicide in social terms rather than individual terms. He was interested in how suicide might be influenced more by social context and have a broader interpretation beyond the individual.Durkheim wanted to prove that social situations, characteristics, activities, interactions etc, influence and control individual and person behavior rather than the other way around. Durkheim wrote a book called Le Suicide in 1897. This was a groundbreaking book in the field of sociology. In this book Durkheim explores the differing suicide rates that are among society. In 1973 the month of March, major countries agreed that the fixed exchange rate system would not be restored. • 12. The American Culture And Values Critiquing American Culture and Values: (The Social) Network The emergence of novel forms of communication in American history tends to produce two contrasting reactions: general acceptance from society and moral outrage from a limited, vocal portion of the public. As a medium, film was met in such a fashion with the creation of the Production Code Administration in 1934, designed by Catholic leaders to uphold their conception of American values. At the same time, the example of Middletown depicted a rural community incorporating the experience of film into their regular lives, treating it as entertainment alongside shows at the opera house. Decades later, we see film utilized to criticize the social impact of emerging communicative methods, including television and social media in the form of Network (1976) and The Social Network (2010). • 19. Reaction Paper On Cellular Respiration Cellular respiration is the oxidation of organic compounds that occurs within cells, producing energy for cellular processes (Dictionary.com, 2017) . The process of cellular respiration occurs in three phases. The first process is called Glycolysis and is the breakdown of glucose in the cytoplasm. The next process is the pyruvate molecules transported into the mitochondria (aka powerhouses of the cells), the pyruvate are then converted into 2 carbon molecules and enter the Krebs cycle. Finally the energy enters the electron transport chain and the energy is used to produce ATP (CK 12, 2017). The lungs co operate with cellular respiration as the lungs produce oxygen which is vital in helping the process of turning glucose into ATP. The process of the respiratory system begins at the nasal cavity and mouth where air is inhaled. The air then passes through the sinuses located in the skull which regulate the humidity and temperature as someone breathes (Zimmermann, Live Science, 2016). The air is filtered in the trachea (windpipe) and then enters the lungs through a system of pipes called the bronchi. The bronchi are located at the end of the trachea as the left or right bronchi. The bronchi branch throughout the lungs eventually forming thin walled air sacs or bubbles, known as the alveoli ( Respiratory System, 2017). This isn t hard to imagine why. Many unredeemed men have no inhibitions when it comes to sex. This is true whether they re gay or straight. It s usually (although not exclusively) the woman that has more restraint. Put two guys together and you have a recipe for debauchery. Although the incident at Lot s house related to intentions involving sodomy, I have a real problem with explaining away their motivations as merely homosexual urges in nature. First off, the verse seems to clearly indicate that this was ALL the men of the city, both young and old, from every quarter. Was every single male gay? There s no reason to doubt that these two angels were beautiful men, especially if they were just taking on the form of men. But to suddenly have ALL of the men of the city ready to break down the door to get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Ocean Oil Spill Essay There have been many oil spills in the ocean, some big and some small. All of these oil spills have had a huge effect on the wildlife in the ocean. The oil from the oil rig stays on the surface of the water because oil is less dense than the water, this causes the oil to just float cause it can t go anywhere else and it won t mix in with the water. This is harmful in so many different ways to the life in the ocean. The oil can prevent sunlight from penetrating the surface, which can cause it to be dark under the surface. The oil also can cover thousands of birds, mammals, and sea turtles. When birds land in the water they become covered in oil. • 25. Essay about Prohibition vs War on Drugs The United States of America ˆs war on drugs today is very similar to America ˆs Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920 ˆs. These two major issues of their time may not seem like they can be logically compared, but statistics for usage and a correlating rise in crime for both eras show a strong relationship. There is also a tendency for an outright defiance of the laws and law makers of the United States government in both cases. Most people today think that the prohibition of the 1920 ˆs and the current war on drugs have many contrasting points. The opposite is true. However, the points that do contrast are more opinion based than fact oriented. The following paragraphs will attempt to clearly and effectively show a comparison and ... Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are similar, Mark is the only gospel that addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel. In Matthew s gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesus teachings, and all nations of the world. On the other hand, Mark s gospel focuses on preaching, good news, and reaching every creature. Albeit advance treatment of this disease is currently available, vigorous action should be taken by the communities and the respective agencies to abolish all potential breeding sites for mosquitoes. Family is a term that has changed over time; as a result the traditional definition of family is inadequate, and limited to describe the modern version of the term. Our society tends to attach itself to the traditional conceptualization of family better know as a nuclear family which includes a set of parents, and their biological offspring (Kompara). In America, known as a melting pot of all cultures and races, there are many implications for the word family thus there is no such thing as a traditional family. The traditional definition, which is limited parents and their children, can no longer be used to describe an American family because of our diverse and changing familial structures. The word family dates back to the 13th century and is derived from Old French word famelie ( Family ). The word originally defined the relationship of group of people living under the same roof, household [including servants] (1337), group of people related by blood, lineage (1442 4), a group of people who share a common philosophy (1658) ( Family ). A Common Trope Within International Relations That Is Often A common trope within international relations that is often discussed by analysts and average individuals alike, is the inevitable decline of American power. Delving into this trope in his book, IS THE AMERICAN CENTURY OVER?, Joseph S. NYE, JR, argues that the period of American pre eminence in military, economic, and soft power resources is not over (116). In structuring his argument, Nye first analyzes Europe, Japan, Brazil, and India and their potential role in challenging America s ability to maintain an international order. Conversely, Nye explores potential American responses to China s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within these terms, Nye contextualizes his argument. For example, Nye explains that though China s economic and military power allow it to be a more of a potent threat than other challenger, it has a host of domestic issues, ranging from an underdeveloped countryside to rapid industrialization (50). Even if China were to overcome its domestic problems, which would translate to an increase in Chinese economic power, a preponderant role for China in the world economy would not equate to a Chinese hegemony. It s political and military actions would still have to account for the United States. Through dissecting how any economic advantage China has over America is negligible, as it comes at a price for it as well, Nye makes the argument that interdependence constrains China into working with America in maintaining the international order, rather than working against it. As the United States derives power from the dollar, much has been said about China s massive holding of dollars, and how it could potentially use it as a bargaining chip in its relationship with the United States. • 43. Critical Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows four characters as they struggle with, and eventually succumb to their different addictions. This leads to the characters imprisonment in a world of delusions and reckless desperation that is eventually overtaken by reality. The film makes effective use of imagery and sound to create the feeling of the film reeling towards the end at an impossible pace. By the end of the movie, the characters are completely changed: withered, broken, and alone. Requiem for a Dream was screened at the 2000 Cannes film festival, and was met with primarily positive reviews. Darren Aronofsky created the feeling of the film speeding up by shortening the length of the scenes as the film progresses. At the beginning of the movie scenes are 90 seconds to 2 minutes in length, and it s by shortening the length of scenes and frames that he created a sense of unease within the audience. • 45. Preparing For Senior Night, My Last Home Volleyball Game Preparing for senior night, my last home volleyball game, I found myself sorting through pictures of my high school years and noticed a recurring theme: a bittersweet memory, my walking boot. As silly as it may sound, I have derived much of my identity from this boot. When I meet new classmates, they ask about the status of my injury. How is your foot? Can you play volleyball again? I cannot blame them for noticing my bum ankle. For more than a year (on and off), a bulky, grey piece of plastic masked the lower half of my leg. For a part of this time, I even rode through the hallways on a rented medical scooter that my friends affectionately dubbed Ricky Bobby. This boot, the thing that once caused me anxiety is now a symbol of my determination. Additionally, it opened my eyes to the field I want to spend the next chapter of my life pursuing: physical therapy. The summer before my junior year, I worked harder than I ever had to train for my first varsity season. Immediately after an intense run, I would go home and ice my ankle to relieve the pain that I ignored during the workout itself. Push through; I would tell myself, be strong! I thought that I was being strong by working through the pain. Sports media always praises the athletes who played the championship game on a broken foot or a sprained ankle, but you never hear about the kid who trains through the everlasting two a days of preseason and never makes it to the first game. I thought that by pushing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
