Glass Ceiling in the Australian Work Force
Glass ceiling in the Australian work force is still an issue in today s society.
I will demonstrate how stereotyping affects males perception of women and how it affects women
s perception of gender roles, which supports the concept, that glass ceiling still exists.
Stereotyping is to believe that, all people or things with similar characteristics are the same, (
stereotype , 2014). The term glass ceiling refers to the invisible barriers that prevent women from
succeeding and moving up the metaphoric ladder in the corporate world. Women are perceived as a
minority in the workforce, they are aware of the occupational advances, but find them difficult to
achieve due to prejudice, (Weir, 2004). Feminismis defined as the social movements ... Show more

Businesses should see a women s caring nature as an attribute to their business and adapt their
business to become more appealing to a wider audience. Studies have shown that companies that
promote gender equality are more productive, holistic, competitive and higher educated, (Workplace
Gender Equality Agency [WGEA], 2014).
Stereotyping affects women s perception of gender roles and supports the concept that glass
ceiling still exists. The main stakeholder in the issue of glass ceiling in the work force, are the
women themselves. Feminism is a word used to describe individuals who express a different view
in gender equity, and desire to make changes in society s perception of women. In history we have
seen many forms of feminism, in 1792 Mary Wollstonecraft led the early liberal feminist movement,
which raised awareness of the inequity of women. Mary Wollstonecraft wrote that everybody
should have the right to self determination, that is the reasoning by which liberal enlightenment
thought opposed the divine rights of the kings and aristocracies should be used against the divine
right of the husbands and women s obedience to men, (Bowden Mummery, 2009). The Feminist
movements began in Australia in 1827 with riots in Parramatta Sydney, over unfair

Peopl My Leadership Model (Mbti)
Week one into this course has been a defining moment in my life. It sets the stage into life as a
more consciously self aware and emotionally intelligent being, and the awareness of others as
equally emotional beings whether or not these others are self aware or not. In it, the MBTI were
taught to which I as at then, tentatively identify my preference as one that is inclined to
Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling and Perceiving (INFP).
Now, I can say with certainty, in the light of what I have learned thus far that I am a
compassionate leader who wants the best out of my followers by minimizing their threat responses.
I am relatively transparent, love my relative importance in comparison to others and love to have
autonomy. Because, I naturally gravitated towards non violent communication base on my MBTI
preference, I tend to extend empathy in my dealing with people and give them the preferences with
which I would like to be given.
This have a side effect, which in my experience appears to paint me as a weak leader who carries
almost all the burden in a sacrificial way just not to offend my subordinates. However, the moment
I then become more assertive and change in my leadership style, I am immediately seen as
threatening and perhaps trigger my followers threat responses. ... Show more content on

Three Main Reasons For The Abolition Of The Atlantic Slave...
The abolition of the Atlantic slave trade. The aim of this essay is to evaluate the reasons for the
abolition of the Atlantic slave trade as well as conclude on what I determine to be the main
reason for the abolition. I will consider the three main factors; The influence of William
Wilberforce in parliament, The abolitionist campaign and its influence on public opinion, as
well as slave resistance and rebellion. The trade took place throughout the years of the 15th
century and continued through to the 19th century. The trade involved Europeans taking goods
from Europe such as weapons and fabric to Africa which they would trade for the brutal capture
of men, women and children from their homes and countries, these people would then be taken
to countries in north and south America on slave ships where they lived in terrible, cramped and
diseased conditions for months as they travelled through the middle passage. When they arrived
in America they would be forced to work in awful conditions on plantations in order to produce
goods such as sugar, cotton and tobacco. Which would then be transported back to Europe.
William Wilberforce was born in 1759. He grew up very privileged and became very popular and
well known for his eloquent, witty and powerful speeches and was elected to the house of
commons aged only 21. Wilberforce then used his platform to advocate for many causes such as
education reform. Wilberforce began to focus his efforts on the abolition of the slave trade

Nelson Mandela In South Africa
I am Nelson Mandela but everybody call me Madiba and I am a leader of South Africa. South
Africa is not a normal country when the nation remains s racially and economically divided after
the end of apartheid. One country but two societies such as Black and White. As a Black leader, I
do not have a support from White community. He can win the election but can he run the country?
Ruin the country when apartheid still appears as well as not let South Africaappears to be on the
verge of a civil war are the monumental oppositions I have to face with. My mission is to unify
the societies. And this is my first day of working as the president position. When I walk into the
Union Buildings, I can see the White staffs are bitter and disrespect through their body language
and action such as eyes cat down, arms folded and some of them turn away from me with the
belongings in their hands. Understand their thinking and feeling, I organize a small meeting to
convince the staffs to stay with me and run the government with their hearts. And when Jason,
my bodyguard asks me for more men, I decide to use SAS staff because this is the opportunity to
show the citizens that South Africa is different now and we have to look into the future, I know
Jason does not like this but I say with him Forgiveness start here. Few days later, I attend the
rugby match between Springbok and England. This match likely to present the entrenched
problems in South African community. I can see how serious the situation is when the Black
cheering England team and the White sport fans support the old ways with their outdated flags.
Moreover, when I arrive there are many aggressive people throw beer cans to me. At that day, our
team lose. Based on the bad result, National Sport Council decides to eliminate the emblem and
colour of Springbok because they represent apartheid through the colour of the uniform. As a
leader of the whole nation, I believe rugby is the symbol of South Africa and Springbok is the
factor for reunification without using any power or taking away White South African their most
valued traditions. Therefore, I ask the National Sports Council to restore the Springbok s name,
emblem as well as the colour. Luckily, I have

Dark Matter Research Paper
Dark Matter: The Number One Mystery in Our Universe
Dark matter is a mystery in astrophysics that could not be explained until the 1970s. Even now,
with the understanding of space we have, cosmologists do not know a plethora of knowledge about
dark matter. Dark matter is non baryonic matter that cannot be detected in normal ways and was not
discovered until the 1930s, but is one of the main components of our universe. Dark matter makes
up about 27 percent of our entire universe (Dark Energy, Dark Matter NASA Science), and another
75 percent of all matter (Dunbar). Dark matter forms in giant, unevenly spread clumps around
celestial bodies, mostly galaxies. One theory of how the clusters of dark matter form is the Weakly
Interacting Massive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since when the dark matter particle collide and produce gamma rays, cosmologists can use gamma
ray telescopes to detect the placement of dark matter clumps. Another way to disclose the location
of dark matter clusters is to use gravitational lensing. Light behind galaxies is distorted by the
intervening invisible dark matter within the cluster (Hubble s Dark Matter Map). In the 1930s, an
astronomer named Fritz Zwicky theorized dark matter. He studied the Coma galaxy cluster,
specifically how fast the cluster revolves. The speed of the revolution depends on the weight and
position of the matter within the cluster. The speed that Zwicky measured implied that the cluster
had more matter than what matter was observable. Then, in the 1970s, Vera Rubin and her team
justified Zwicky s idea by studying galaxy rotation with better technology. The work of Rubin
helped to establish the notion of dark matter (Dunbar). Dark matter is one of the main mysteries in
the universe, that cosmologists still do not know much about. Dark matter is non baryonic matter,
discovered in the 1930s, that is a main component of our known cosmos. Dark matter is made after
WIMPs, colliding, making gamma rays. Using the gamma rays emitted, astrophysicists detect the
placement of dark matter. With the next technological advancements in the studies of our universe,
cosmologists can acquire new information about dark

Abstract¬¬¬ This paper presents a low hardware overhead test pattern generator (TPG) for
scan based built in self test (BIST) that can reduce switching activity in circuits under test
(CUTs) during BIST. BIST is a device, here part of the functional device is self dedicated to self
testing the correctness of the device. In general BIST is comprised of two TPGs: LT RTPG
(Low Transition Random Test Pattern Generator) and 3 Weight WRBIST(Weighted Random Built
In Self Test) Minimization of hardware overhead is a major concern of BIST implementation. In
test per scan BIST, a new test pattern is applied to the inputs of the CUT every m + 1clock cycles,
where m is the number of scan elements in the longest scan chain. By using two proposed TPG
increasing fault coverage is achieved through the reduction of switching activity, thereby dissipation
of power is minimized.

The very first music piece started off slow but then flutes and chimes came in and took the song
to a different level. It then later on has the same type of beat which helps it continue to flow. I
really like the flute solo that was played around the middle of the song. In the next song it starts
out as if it is a church choir. The song sounds serious and probably takes part of some ritual or
ceremony. The third song sounds very inviting and calm. This song also is song by a choir or a
group of people. Throughout the video the church is present so in that case this means that this
song had an importance inside the church. The beginning of the fourth song is different by how the
drums are the first things you hear. In this song you will also presence all the songs playing at the

very hard, and that is something different that has happened in this song than the other ones so far.
The Hallelujah chorus song which is the sixth example is a song that is still played and heard
around churches and the world. This song instantly begins with singing Hallelujah which brings the
listeners attention in the first few seconds of the song. The seventh example begins with opera
type singing that is meant to be sad and gloomy but precious and elegant all at the same time. This
song is shown to pay tribute to an occasion with beautiful singing. The eight example is played
with a piano and it all begins with a loud and big entrance. This song shows and hits many
different ques and notes as the song continues to go on. In a few instances you can see the
musician play the instrument and you can see how many different notes he hits. The next example

The History of Global Climate Change Essay
Earth has experienced many episodes of dramatic climate changes with different periods in earth
history. There have been periods during which the entire planet has been covered in ice and at
another time it has been scorchingly hot and dry. In this regards, earth has experienced at least
three major periods of long term frigid climate and ice ages interspersed with periods of warm
climate. The last glacial period which current glaciers are the result of it, occurring during the last
years of Pleistocene, from approximately 110,000 to 10,000 years age (Clayton, 1997). Indeed,

Remote sensing has become a very valuable tool for documenting the response of glacier to
changing climate (Bamber and Kwok, 2003; Kuhn, 2007; Pellikka, 2007; Solomon et al, 2007)
because the rugged terrain, inaccessibility and legendary poor weather of glacier areas has
resulted in relatively few field based studies. Indeed, in order to use glaciers and their changes as
indicators of climate change, or as an early warning signal for sea level rise, remote sensing is
the only tool to provide glacier change information from all the continents and from a large
number of glaciers and ice sheets. On the other hands, because space borne and airborne remote
sensing data provide superior cost effective and area effective data and methods for monitoring
the glaciers and their changes, part of this monitoring can be carried out by it. Glacier topography
is one of the most important parameter to monitor as it is a key to glacier volume and glacier mass
balance studies using the geodetic method. Topography of glacier can be mapped using various
data types such as terrestrial photography, aerial photography, digital camera data, airborne radar
data, satellite radar data (SAR), very high resolution satellite imagery and laser scanner data. By
means of interferometric processing DEM could be retrieved by Synthetic aperture radar images

pieces of literature that are considered by many to be timeless classics. Perhaps the reason these
stories are so popular is not just because they are well written. People are also able to relate to the
characters who are often entangled in one of the many complexities within a given society.
Authors such as Shakespeare or Charles Dickens are able to discuss some of the issues and
problems that face people within society. The answers to the these issues are often left unclear.

Paper On Migraines
In the last few years of my life I began to experience migraines. At first, I assumed they were
headaches. My knowledge of migraines was limited. I knew that my migraines begin as a mild
pain in my forehead (a headache), and progress to pain on the sides of my head accompanied by
intense throbbing. This pain causes me to have a sensitivity to light and sound, I cannot focus, and
they usually last a matter of hours. Occasionally they are longer, as sometimes I will go to bed
with a migraineand wake up with it still there.
As this pain progressed in intensity and length I decided it was time to do some research. I made
a list of all of the things I wanted to learn. From that list, I was able to form my research
question: Would I be able to lead a life where I could control or at least minimize my migraines?
Later, I was able to form an answer: I cannot cure my migraines, but I can minimize their effects
and frequency. I came to this conclusion by researching different migraine remedies and how they
work.
My search was a new experience for me. I started by doing a Google search using the keywords

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Outliers

Quite the defining name for Malcolm Gladwell s book the Outliers. Gladwell argues against our
daily belief of a successors successes. Throughout his examples in the book, Gladwell starts off by
retelling the assumed story behind a person success. Then goes and re examines each story in such
a detail matter, that he pinpoints the unknown facts that led to that person success. Gladwell
unmasked our so called big shoots in our nation through a series of factual, ethical, and emotional

Anti Vietnam War Era Essay
Anti Vietnam War Era
The SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) gave perspective into the mindset of Washington
University students during the late 1960 s and early 1970 s. These students would provide
demonstrations and opinions that would impact the social environment and activities of a time of
confusion and political un justification. Many returning VietnamVeterans and students would take
action during the anti war era. As the war had continued, the public had changed their views of the
war becoming aggressive and unsupportive to what they felt was a lost cause. After reviewing
several leaflets and newspapers written by students of Washington University, demonstrations of
their ideas and involvement during the anti Vietnam War movement would give considerable detail
to this era. Peace on Earth G.I Movement Past and Present, and A US Infantry Squad Just Came
through Here, all provided evidence that civilians and military would not continue to support the
war and take action regarding it. Peace on Earth, was an itinerary written by Jon Birch (C.O
National Office) in 1971 to announce events taking place by the Vietnam Veterans against the War.

How To Write An Informative Speech On Barbie
Barbie
Purpose statement: The purpose of this speech is to inform the audience about Barbie.
INTRODUCTION: I. Did you know in every second of everyday, two Barbie dolls are sold
somewhere in the world? A. Barbie was invented in 1959 by Ruth Handler. B. She was
introduced to the world at the American Toy Fair in New York City. II. Barbie has been an
important part of the toy fashion doll market for fifty years. A. She has been the subject of
numerous controversies and lawsuits, often involving parody of the doll and lifestyle. B. In recent

III. ControversiesA. Barbie s popularity ensures that her effect on the play of children attracts a
high degree of scrutiny. The criticisms leveled at her are often based on the assumption that
children consider Barbie a role model and will attempt to emulate her. 1. One of the most
common criticisms of Barbie is that she promotes an unrealistic idea of body image for a young
woman, leading to a risk that girls who attempt to emulate her will become anorexic. A standard
Barbie doll is 11.5 inches tall, giving a height of 5 feet 9 inches at 1/6 scale. Barbie s vital
statistics have been estimated at 36 inches (chest), 18 inches (waist) and 33 inches (hips).
According to research by the University Central Hospital in Helsinki, Finland, she would lack
the 17 to 22 percent body fat required for a woman to menstruate. In 1965 Slumber Party Barbie
came with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which advised: Don t eat. The doll also came with
pink bathroom scales reading 110 lbs., which would be around 35 lbs. underweight for a woman 5
feet 9 inches tall. In 1997 Barbie s body mold was redesigned and given a wider waist, with Mattel
saying that this would make the doll better suited to contemporary fashion designs. 2. In March
2000 stories appeared in the media claiming that the hard vinyl used in vintage Barbie dolls

Satire In The Firebombing Of Vonnegut
Satire is an important part of postmodernism and it is one of the most prominent aspects of
Vonnegut s novels, with his humor manifesting itself as a form of black humor. With his very
dark sense of humor, Vonnegut confronts many of the negative aspects of the world and
describes them in such a way that it disarms and desensitizes the reader to the shock of what they
are reading. Slaughterhouse Five is an excellent example of this. When describing the shock and
horror that Billy witnessed during the firebombing of Dresden, Vonnegut takes the time to
describe Weary and Wild Bob and Rumfoord, characters who find glory in wholesale death and
destruction (Cox 272). In writing his response to the horrors of war, Vonnegut takes the
approach that it is better to make the reader laugh at something and have them slowly realize the
horror of what they have read, as opposed to immediately shocking the reader by presenting gory
details of his experiences in Dresden. Even the name of his main character is subtle black
humor. Billy Pilgrim, whose name is a reference to John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s Progress and
connotes that Vonnegut s pilgrim is an average joe burdened with a life of agony and terror
(F1). His name is also in reference to Vonnegut s feeling that the Second World War was a war
fought by mere children, hence the book s subtitle The Children s Crusade. The idea of young
men who were no more than children in essence when they were sent off to fight and die in a
foreign land is a distressing and horrible idea for many people to think about. Yet through his
humor Vonnegut forces the reader to come to terms with this, but in a way that eases a reader into
the darkness of the novel instead of running into it head on. In Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut does
not limit his black humor to the topic of war, but also opens up criticisms of society as he sees it.
Through the Tralfamadorian aliens that kidnap Billy and take him captive on their planet and the
science fiction of Kilgore Trout, Vonnegut uses his humor in regards to a variety of topics not
related to war. Once such example of Trout s novels that are throughout the story is The Gospel
from Outer Space in which a visitor from outer space studied

Similarities Between The Signalman And The Signalman
Just like the slow ticking of an old grandfather clock, gothic literature will be one of the most
feared titles one will ever read for good reason. It s heart pounding. Sweat inducing. Pupil shaking.
It is startlingly real and lifelike, and you won t be able to stop yourself from turning around to just
check. Those deep, dark, unexplained laments in the murky recesses of our minds have moulded
itself into two very distinct types of gothic literature traditional and contemporary. Traditional gothic
literature, like Charles DickensThe Signalman utilises an unusual setting, and revolves heavily
around the supernatural, which is further emphasised in its use of first person; contemporary

that is bothering him, but he is hesitant in confiding it in the narrator. As a whole, the quote
indicates that the signalman is troubled because of correlated events, and is unwilling to voice his
fears out to another. Another character that spells out suspense is the spectre the spectre always
appears at uncanny times, and soon after, events happen with devastating consequences. Within six
hours after the Appearance, the memorable accident on this Line happened... Taking a closer look
at the quote, the word memorable is indelible in its meaning, for this coincidence has deeply
imprinted itself in the signalman s mind along with the Appearance . This quote does show that
the spectre is a character that unloads a boatful of suspense right into the reader s lap that will
make the reader wondering if this really is just a mere fortuity. On the other hand, Dahl uses his
characters in Lamb to the Slaughter in a vastly different way to create suspense. Mary Maloney goes

Long term memory
Long term memory refers to the continuing storage of information. In Freudian psychology, long
term memory would be call the preconscious and unconscious. This information is largely outside
of our awareness, but can be called into working memory to be used. Some of this information is
fairly easy to recall, while other memories are much more difficult to access. In long term memory,
Tulving (1972, 2000) has proposed the existence of three kinds of long term memory storage, which
have different properties, and based on different brain mechanisms. The three long term memory
storage are; procedural memory, semantic memory and episodic memory.
Procedural memory is used to storage the memory of movement and skills, such as writing, cook

Major Concerns for Canada s Northwestern Territories
To solve the shrinking population and already small population issue the Northwest Territories
has decided to look for recruits. The government has come up with a plan to attract 2,000 more
residents over the next five years, to help grow the territory s economy. ( N.W.T. Aims to Attract
2,000 to Territory1 ) This plan seems to have very good promise since there is a lot to be attracted
to in the Northwest Territories. Aside form the cold temperatures there is a surplus of job opening
and offering, there is plenty of land and space, resources have yet to be exploited and as
mentioned before there are the northern lights and plenty of adventurous activities. The
government hopes that at least 20% of the 2000 residents will be students who leave the territory
for post secondary education coming back to live and work. ( With Population Shrinking 1) The
government also has hopes to improve its immigrant nominee program ( With Population
Shrinking 1), which will help eliminate fly in/fly out workers. The potential for economic
growth is very promising. In a time where a good portion of economies are taking a hit, this is
the perfect opportunity for people to move and take advantage of the Northwest territories small
population and weak economy. Many people struggle to find jobs and if they move there is a
good chance they could land their dream job instead of a fall back dream. For example, in the

high end paint product. Increased R D, material, and labor cost have allowed Jones Blair to have

Jones Blair is aware that it is approaching the threshold in its prices. Jones Blair is afraid that once
the threshold price is reached, then the decline in volume sales will lead to Jones Blair

1. Resources The resources of an organisation are those assets that deliver value added in the
organisation (Lynch, 2015). According to the resource based view, firm performance is achieved
through competitive advantage that derives from the application of resources that are valuable,
rare, difficult to imitate and unable to substitute (Barney, 1991). 1.1 Types of Resources Tangible
resources A secure financing capability allows the firm to guarantee the flow of funds used to

physical resource refers to technology equipment, production capacities, and access to supplies

Brown and Hamilton promised Northup he would meet the circus in New York City, they
promised he d meet the circus in Washington D.C., they promised him high wages, they promised
a quick departure from Washington D.C., then postponed it, forcing Northup to stay longer than

Hurricane Rubin Carter Analysis
The instrumentation and the nature of the lyrics link Hurricane back to a larger tradition of folk
music. The song combines aspects of typical folk and rock music in a particular kind of
electrified that is commonly associated with Dylan, as well as a distinct ballad form, offering the
narrative of a particular event in Rubin Carter s life. The instrumentation includes Scarlet Rivera s
fiddle, acoustic guitar, vocals, electric bass, and drums. All of these instruments, save for electric
bass, are characteristic of folk performance. Nonetheless, the driving rhythm of the song makes it
often described as a kind of folk rock music. In spite of its electrified sound and driving rhythm,
the greater roots of the song are steeped in American folk... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some of the most important figures of this chapter in the development of folk music were
Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Alan Lomax. In 1928, Charles Seeger and Ruth Crawford
Seeger, Pete Seeger s father and step mother, along with John Lomax and his son Alan, began the
Archive of American Folk Song at the Library of Congress, not only working to transcribe
traditional songs that were at risk of disappearing, but they also encouraged the development of
folk music as a tool for radical politics. This anthology of music would later help inspire Bob Dylan
and others during the folk revival of the 1960s. This chronicling of folk music was all part of
this rise of collectivist folk music at a time in which leftist politics wanted to produce a cultural
identity in America for the folk before the power of corporate America. Some of the folk
anthems of this time were songs like This Land is Your Land , recorded Woody Guthrie in 1944,
or Which Side Are You On? , originally by Florence Reece in 1931 and recorded by the Almanac
Singers in 1941. Both of these songs play into the collective ideas of the time by drawing the
listener into the story of the song. Additionally, both songs serve as vehicles for political protest.
This Land is Your Land can be seen as somewhat of a rallying cry because, after all, This land is
your land/This land is my land , and not the land of

Universal Declaration Of Human Rights
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a doctrine created to ensure a mutual
standard of treatment amongst all humans, every person deserves an equal set of life standards.
According to Article 18 of this 30 Article document, everyone has the right to freedom of thought,
conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom,
either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief
in teaching, practice, worship and observance (Campbell, MacKinnon, and Stevens 98). This
document also states in Article 5, no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or
degrading treatment or punishment (Campbell, Mackinnon, and Stevens 97).
The idea of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is commendable and I believe that
achieving the goals that it states is necessary for ultimate global progress, but it unfortunately falls
flat when put into practice, comparable in assessment to the goals and purpose of the United
Nations versus the actual actions of the United Nations. Many of the declarations in the UDHR
overlap with one another and prevent certain action from occurring. In the contentious issue of
Female Genital Cutting, we can see the above articles clashing with one another. While it is every
persons right to be able to freely practice their religion, it is also apparently every persons right to

Introduction Due to stiff competition, marketing has become an essential component in the
management of organizations. According to Turnbull and Paliwoda (2012) marketing revolves
around the manner in which organisations communicate with consumers in the market. There are
two main perspectives towards the understanding of what marketing is. From one perspective, it is
the manner in which organisations communicate with their consumers regarding the existing
products and also commication that is geared towards creating positive perceptions in the consumer
market. Thus the approach points out that marketing is a tool used for value creation. The other
perspective of marketing is more comprehensive as it encompases marketing as a tool and a process
in the organization. with regards to this perspective, Challagalla, Murtha, and Jaworski (2014)
define marketing as: the process of conception planning and execution, pricing, promotion and
distribution of goods, ideas and services. This means that marketing starts from the designing and
producing products and services, to when they are promoted and distributed to the consumers.

change for the nation. Firstly, change began as Thomas Jefferson was elected president, which
meant the beginning of the Democratic Republicans reign in office. But this development of the
modern United States led not to a unified nation, yet it led to one divided. The expansion and
development of ideas and land exposed great regional differences in the United Statesbetween 1800
and 1848. Jefferson s Louisiana Purchase had not only provided the country with land to farm, but
it had doubled the size of the United States. Decisions over what to do with the new land separated
the country. This is clearly seen in disputes concerning the United States

War from the 16th and 17th Century to Invention of Gunpowder
WAR FROM THE 16TH AND 17TH CENTURY TO INVENTION OF GUNPOWDER
The invention of the powerful artillery guns would change man s role in warring engagements.
The artillery guns at first were very limited by their own design. The guns were very heavy and
had to be transported by water, which meant that only towns and fortresses that were close to a
body of water could be attacked with artillery also known as the cannon. There were also some
fortresses that were impervious to the early cannon attacks based on strong designs or natural
defenses. The French were able to penetrate the round shaped castles and large walls during the
late 1400s by using concentrated fire of several small guns instead of a few large ones. A new

The problem with recruitment was solved in many ways. The most common method of
enlistment was actually through volunteering, but other men were forced to serve as well. The
volunteers were attracted to service because of the money, and recruits joined from the
mountains, towns, and even in war zones and the majority of them consisted of peasants or
townsmen that needed work. Many men joined the army to escape the life of their father s work,
to avoid criminal prosecution, to see more of the world, or to pursue honor. In addition to the
volunteers, the governments also used forceful means of enlistment by recruiting an entire
population of an area as a unit and forcing them to fight together. Other forms of forced recruiting
included soldiers of defeated armies and the use of conscripts. The most sought after combat
soldier was the veteran and many times a veteran would move from army to army depending on
which one would make him the most money. Financing the large organizations was no easy task
when so many mouths had to be feed, clothed, and armed. Not only were there a lot of soldiers,
but the price of weaponry was increasing as well. Combat basically comes down to one thing,
money; and the army that could last the longest was eventually able to wear down the enemy
instead of having to destroy their armies. Many times the kings of the 1700s would devote

European Exploration Factors
There were many factors that led to the European exploration. Out of the many factors, God,
gold, and country were the three main ones. God was a major factor because everyone wanted to
please God and spread Christianity all over the world. Gold was also a major factor because if
you made a discovery, you could make al lot of money off of the discovery. Finally country was
also a great factor in the European exploration because when an explorer brought something back
for the country than he could be praised. The rivalry between Portugal and Spainwas how much
land and resources each country was discovering. Constantly the two were at each others necks
trying to see who would discover more land. Finally in 1943, pope Alexander VI wanted to

by many names; king of hell, demon, destroyer, all which is wrong with the world. But many has

Azazel.

The Bi-Polar World Order Essay
Under the ruins of the World War II (WWII), a new world order was beginning to appear. The old
and weak European powers, were devastated from the war, and could no longer hold the world on
its shoulders. Subsequently, new superpowers had to take over the control; they were the USSR
and the USA. Soon after the end of WWII, new international tensions became apparent after the
break of the Grand Alliance (Taylor, 1993, p. 49). The disagreements between the new
superpowers grew to a point where the Cold Warbecame a fact. That new world order split the
world ideologically into two camps; the anti imperialist(USA) and the anti capitalist(USSR)(Ibid,
p.51).The ideological war was underlined by a geopolitical transition, subsequently creating... Show

With the start of the Cold War, however, the concept was developed and incorporated within its
rhetoric (Dodds, 2000, p.61). For Agnew, the term began to be referred to the newly formed
states, product from the ongoing wind of change (Taylor, 1993, p.55), and other states that were
outside the settled spheres of influence of the superpowers (Agnew, 1998, p.112). However, in
the Cold War rhetoric the Third World still referred, in certain a certain sense, to another way the
Third Way. According to Agnew, those states signified the resistance to the dominating political
and economic discourse of the Cold War (Ibid, p.113). Those resistances led to the creation of the
Non Alignment Movement (NAM), in 1961. It included, member states, such as Egypt, India and
Yugoslavia. The idea of the movement, according to Dodds(2000, pp.57 8), was to resist the
geopolitical pressures of the Cold War, and to establish a forum where common problems could be
discussed, without any interference from the superpowers. As it appeared this wasn t the only
rationale behind the creation of NAM. In the NAM summit of 1973, in Algiers, the member states
committed to pursue a New form of International Economic Order (NIEO), aimed at reducing the
economic and political gap between the North and the South (Ibid, 58). These events were in
conjunction with the rise of oil prices, declared by

The Beach Boys Research Paper
For a person to go a day without hearing music is a rare occurrence. Music is found on the radio,
in videos, and in advertisements. Music, being found in every person s life every single day, it
is continually changing to some for the better, while to others opinions, the worse. Music lacking
originality will not stand the test of time. Nowadays, music is found on everywhere: on
applications like iTunes and Spotify, as well as on CD; but, fifty years ago, vinyl and singles
were the only way to listen to music other than the radio. Albums on vinyl records are seven inches

The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment
The Age of Enlightenment was an intellectual and scientific movement which is characterized by
its rational and scientific approach to religious, social, political, and economic issues.
Enlightenment ideals challenged the way people were taught to think and let them express their
criticism of the church, the monarchy or whatever system they saw as unjust. The impact of the
enlightenment movement was first seen in 18th century Europe and soon spread to different parts
of the world. People who believed in these ideals were called enlightenment thinkers. Enlightenment
thinkers were a voice for the masses who felt they were being manipulated by people holding all the
power. It also helped the masses realize that they did not need the church or monarchy, and
enlightenment thinkers were able to assemble a following to stop people of power taking advantage
of those who were not quite as powerful. Enlightenment thinkers gave an outlet to the common
citizen who were seeing injustices in their government system. Enlightenment ideals caused a
domino effect. Throughout history, we saw that the more the enlightenment ideals spread the more
people stood up to their oppressors. It first started with the Renaissance this was a time when
interest in knowledge and learning was reborn after the middle ages (Szalay). Then came The
Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation was the religious, political, intellectual and
cultural movement that spread across Europe, setting in place the

Learning Changes Students Learning Essay
Collective learning changes students learning style to a more effective way. With the combination
of technology and in class group activities, collective learning as an educational method becomes
more fun and acceptable. Duke University brought the iPod as an academic device and use for the
educational experiment to all first year students. The iPodinverts the traditional role of music player
into a useful study tool. Students can not only listen to music, but also use the iPod as an academic
device to share knowledge and communicate with others. People from outside Duke University can
also have the access to these shared documents, which makes everyone have the same opportunity
to learn. In Project Classroom Makeover, the author Cathy Davidson introduces the use of the iPod
for an educational experiment for collective learning, which brings out the idea of crowdsourcing.
Crowdsourcing is a group of students will share their ideas and solve the problem together, which
is one way of collective learning. At Duke University, the introduce and widespread of collective
learning have enhanced the educationinto a higher level; whereas, collective learning has played
both positive roles and negative roles in education. Positively, collective learning makes students
regain the interest of studying and improving students social skills, which would increase the
likelihood of students to success in the future; however, negatively, students might over relying on

The Relationship Between Playing Musical Instruments And...
Over the years various researchers have raised concern about the relationship between playing
musical instruments and performance in math. Performing well in math is a significant
requirement in passing an examination. For this reason, extensive research has been conducted on
some of how students can improve their performance in math. According to Cindy Zhan, playing
music instruments engages the right hemisphere of the brain. On the other hand, tackling math
problems involves the left hemisphere of the brain. Playing musical instrumentsthus creates a
correlation between the two brain hemispheres and increases the brain thinking capacity. My
prediction is that playing musical instruments greatly increases a student s performance in math.
The main purpose of this investigation is to determine whether there is a relationship between
playing musical instruments and increased performance in math. Data that will be collected
include the math grades (American Grading System) of students playing musical instruments as
well as for those who do not. The math scores will be used to determine how high students scored
an overall grade in math and how good they are in playing musical instruments. The data which
will be used will take the average score for 100 or more students both who play the instruments and
those who do not. I will investigate the relationship between math scores and play various musical
instruments. I will collect data on the math scores of students playing

The Characteristics Of Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation
1.1Background of the study
Motivation is a theoretically construct that used to explain our behaviour. It represents the reasons
for people s desire or actions. Motivation can also be defined as what causes a person want to
repeat behaviour or one s direction to behaviour. Behaviour is the way in which one acts or
conducts oneself, especially toward others.
Motivation can be describe as a starting point for any activity, job, intensity and persistence of
behaviour associate with particular task (Buckworth, Lee, Regan, Schneider, Diclemente, 2007).
They also state that motivation can influence behaviour and they emphasize that basically
motivation consists of two types which is intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Based on Buckworth et
al. (2007) intrinsic motivation reflect as the purpose for an individual performing a behaviour, for
example for the pleasure and satisfaction but in extrinsic motivation it is difference because an

Jowett (2008) also claimed that extrinsic motivation may not the main factor that can influence an
individual s action but have an important role in fulfil the human basic needs. Intrinsic motivation
is crucial for the education phenomenon. This is because education needs a natural learning
process for achievement and this is where the intrinsic motivation is needed. Ryan and Deci (2000)
also emphasized that any profession or responsibility that associated to education such as parent and
teacher need high quality in creativity which mean this quality cannot be develop by intrinsic
motivation but in the other hand, understanding on these different type of extrinsic motivation are
also important to create an enjoyment in learning

  • 2. Glass Ceiling in the Australian Work Force Glass ceiling in the Australian work force is still an issue in today s society. I will demonstrate how stereotyping affects males perception of women and how it affects women s perception of gender roles, which supports the concept, that glass ceiling still exists. Stereotyping is to believe that, all people or things with similar characteristics are the same, ( stereotype , 2014). The term glass ceiling refers to the invisible barriers that prevent women from succeeding and moving up the metaphoric ladder in the corporate world. Women are perceived as a minority in the workforce, they are aware of the occupational advances, but find them difficult to achieve due to prejudice, (Weir, 2004). Feminismis defined as the social movements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Businesses should see a women s caring nature as an attribute to their business and adapt their business to become more appealing to a wider audience. Studies have shown that companies that promote gender equality are more productive, holistic, competitive and higher educated, (Workplace Gender Equality Agency [WGEA], 2014). Stereotyping affects women s perception of gender roles and supports the concept that glass ceiling still exists. The main stakeholder in the issue of glass ceiling in the work force, are the women themselves. Feminism is a word used to describe individuals who express a different view in gender equity, and desire to make changes in society s perception of women. In history we have seen many forms of feminism, in 1792 Mary Wollstonecraft led the early liberal feminist movement, which raised awareness of the inequity of women. Mary Wollstonecraft wrote that everybody should have the right to self determination, that is the reasoning by which liberal enlightenment thought opposed the divine rights of the kings and aristocracies should be used against the divine right of the husbands and women s obedience to men, (Bowden Mummery, 2009). It sets the stage into life as a more consciously self aware and emotionally intelligent being, and the awareness of others as equally emotional beings whether or not these others are self aware or not. In it, the MBTI were taught to which I as at then, tentatively identify my preference as one that is inclined to Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling and Perceiving (INFP). Now, I can say with certainty, in the light of what I have learned thus far that I am a compassionate leader who wants the best out of my followers by minimizing their threat responses. I am relatively transparent, love my relative importance in comparison to others and love to have autonomy. Because, I naturally gravitated towards non violent communication base on my MBTI preference, I tend to extend empathy in my dealing with people and give them the preferences with which I would like to be given. This have a side effect, which in my experience appears to paint me as a weak leader who carries almost all the burden in a sacrificial way just not to offend my subordinates. However, the moment I then become more assertive and change in my leadership style, I am immediately seen as threatening and perhaps trigger my followers threat responses. ... • 5. Three Main Reasons For The Abolition Of The Atlantic Slave... The abolition of the Atlantic slave trade. The aim of this essay is to evaluate the reasons for the abolition of the Atlantic slave trade as well as conclude on what I determine to be the main reason for the abolition. I will consider the three main factors; The influence of William Wilberforce in parliament, The abolitionist campaign and its influence on public opinion, as well as slave resistance and rebellion. The trade took place throughout the years of the 15th century and continued through to the 19th century. The trade involved Europeans taking goods from Europe such as weapons and fabric to Africa which they would trade for the brutal capture of men, women and children from their homes and countries, these people would then be taken to countries in north and south America on slave ships where they lived in terrible, cramped and diseased conditions for months as they travelled through the middle passage. When they arrived in America they would be forced to work in awful conditions on plantations in order to produce goods such as sugar, cotton and tobacco. Which would then be transported back to Europe. William Wilberforce was born in 1759. He grew up very privileged and became very popular and well known for his eloquent, witty and powerful speeches and was elected to the house of commons aged only 21. Wilberforce then used his platform to advocate for many causes such as education reform. Wilberforce began to focus his efforts on the abolition of the slave trade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Nelson Mandela In South Africa I am Nelson Mandela but everybody call me Madiba and I am a leader of South Africa. South Africa is not a normal country when the nation remains s racially and economically divided after the end of apartheid. One country but two societies such as Black and White. As a Black leader, I do not have a support from White community. He can win the election but can he run the country? Ruin the country when apartheid still appears as well as not let South Africaappears to be on the verge of a civil war are the monumental oppositions I have to face with. My mission is to unify the societies. And this is my first day of working as the president position. When I walk into the Union Buildings, I can see the White staffs are bitter and disrespect through their body language and action such as eyes cat down, arms folded and some of them turn away from me with the belongings in their hands. Understand their thinking and feeling, I organize a small meeting to convince the staffs to stay with me and run the government with their hearts. And when Jason, my bodyguard asks me for more men, I decide to use SAS staff because this is the opportunity to show the citizens that South Africa is different now and we have to look into the future, I know Jason does not like this but I say with him Forgiveness start here. Few days later, I attend the rugby match between Springbok and England. This match likely to present the entrenched problems in South African community. I can see how serious the situation is when the Black cheering England team and the White sport fans support the old ways with their outdated flags. Moreover, when I arrive there are many aggressive people throw beer cans to me. At that day, our team lose. Based on the bad result, National Sport Council decides to eliminate the emblem and colour of Springbok because they represent apartheid through the colour of the uniform. As a leader of the whole nation, I believe rugby is the symbol of South Africa and Springbok is the factor for reunification without using any power or taking away White South African their most valued traditions. Therefore, I ask the National Sports Council to restore the Springbok s name, emblem as well as the colour. Luckily, I have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Dark Matter Research Paper Dark Matter: The Number One Mystery in Our Universe Dark matter is a mystery in astrophysics that could not be explained until the 1970s. Even now, with the understanding of space we have, cosmologists do not know a plethora of knowledge about dark matter. Dark matter is non baryonic matter that cannot be detected in normal ways and was not discovered until the 1930s, but is one of the main components of our universe. Dark matter makes up about 27 percent of our entire universe (Dark Energy, Dark Matter NASA Science), and another 75 percent of all matter (Dunbar). Dark matter forms in giant, unevenly spread clumps around celestial bodies, mostly galaxies. One theory of how the clusters of dark matter form is the Weakly Interacting Massive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since when the dark matter particle collide and produce gamma rays, cosmologists can use gamma ray telescopes to detect the placement of dark matter clumps. Another way to disclose the location of dark matter clusters is to use gravitational lensing. Light behind galaxies is distorted by the intervening invisible dark matter within the cluster (Hubble s Dark Matter Map). In the 1930s, an astronomer named Fritz Zwicky theorized dark matter. He studied the Coma galaxy cluster, specifically how fast the cluster revolves. The speed of the revolution depends on the weight and position of the matter within the cluster. The speed that Zwicky measured implied that the cluster had more matter than what matter was observable. Then, in the 1970s, Vera Rubin and her team justified Zwicky s idea by studying galaxy rotation with better technology. The work of Rubin helped to establish the notion of dark matter (Dunbar). Dark matter is one of the main mysteries in the universe, that cosmologists still do not know much about. Dark matter is non baryonic matter, discovered in the 1930s, that is a main component of our known cosmos. Dark matter is made after WIMPs, colliding, making gamma rays. Using the gamma rays emitted, astrophysicists detect the placement of dark matter. With the next technological advancements in the studies of our universe, cosmologists can acquire new information about dark ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BIST is a device, here part of the functional device is self dedicated to self testing the correctness of the device. In general BIST is comprised of two TPGs: LT RTPG (Low Transition Random Test Pattern Generator) and 3 Weight WRBIST(Weighted Random Built In Self Test) Minimization of hardware overhead is a major concern of BIST implementation. In test per scan BIST, a new test pattern is applied to the inputs of the CUT every m + 1clock cycles, where m is the number of scan elements in the longest scan chain. By using two proposed TPG increasing fault coverage is achieved through the reduction of switching activity, thereby dissipation of power is minimized. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The last glacial period which current glaciers are the result of it, occurring during the last years of Pleistocene, from approximately 110,000 to 10,000 years age (Clayton, 1997). Remote sensing has become a very valuable tool for documenting the response of glacier to changing climate (Bamber and Kwok, 2003; Kuhn, 2007; Pellikka, 2007; Solomon et al, 2007) because the rugged terrain, inaccessibility and legendary poor weather of glacier areas has resulted in relatively few field based studies. Indeed, in order to use glaciers and their changes as indicators of climate change, or as an early warning signal for sea level rise, remote sensing is the only tool to provide glacier change information from all the continents and from a large number of glaciers and ice sheets. On the other hands, because space borne and airborne remote sensing data provide superior cost effective and area effective data and methods for monitoring the glaciers and their changes, part of this monitoring can be carried out by it. Glacier topography is one of the most important parameter to monitor as it is a key to glacier volume and glacier mass balance studies using the geodetic method. Dorothy Parker was a legendary literary figure, known for her biting wit. She worked on such magazines as Vogue and Vanity Fair during the late 1910s. In addition to her writing, Dorothy Parker was a noted member of the New York literary scene in 1920s. Names such as these bring to mind both plays and pieces of literature that are considered by many to be timeless classics. Perhaps the reason these stories are so popular is not just because they are well written. People are also able to relate to the characters who are often entangled in one of the many complexities within a given society. Authors such as Shakespeare or Charles Dickens are able to discuss some of the issues and problems that face people within society. The answers to the these issues are often left unclear. I knew that my migraines begin as a mild pain in my forehead (a headache), and progress to pain on the sides of my head accompanied by intense throbbing. This pain causes me to have a sensitivity to light and sound, I cannot focus, and they usually last a matter of hours. Occasionally they are longer, as sometimes I will go to bed with a migraineand wake up with it still there. As this pain progressed in intensity and length I decided it was time to do some research. I made a list of all of the things I wanted to learn. From that list, I was able to form my research question: Would I be able to lead a life where I could control or at least minimize my migraines? Later, I was able to form an answer: I cannot cure my migraines, but I can minimize their effects and frequency. I came to this conclusion by researching different migraine remedies and how they work. My search was a new experience for me. I started by doing a Google search using the keywords migraine causes . The criticisms leveled at her are often based on the assumption that children consider Barbie a role model and will attempt to emulate her. 1. One of the most common criticisms of Barbie is that she promotes an unrealistic idea of body image for a young woman, leading to a risk that girls who attempt to emulate her will become anorexic. A standard Barbie doll is 11.5 inches tall, giving a height of 5 feet 9 inches at 1/6 scale. Barbie s vital statistics have been estimated at 36 inches (chest), 18 inches (waist) and 33 inches (hips). According to research by the University Central Hospital in Helsinki, Finland, she would lack the 17 to 22 percent body fat required for a woman to menstruate. In 1965 Slumber Party Barbie came with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which advised: Don t eat. The doll also came with pink bathroom scales reading 110 lbs., which would be around 35 lbs. underweight for a woman 5 feet 9 inches tall. In 1997 Barbie s body mold was redesigned and given a wider waist, with Mattel saying that this would make the doll better suited to contemporary fashion designs. 2. • 25. Satire In The Firebombing Of Vonnegut Satire is an important part of postmodernism and it is one of the most prominent aspects of Vonnegut s novels, with his humor manifesting itself as a form of black humor. With his very dark sense of humor, Vonnegut confronts many of the negative aspects of the world and describes them in such a way that it disarms and desensitizes the reader to the shock of what they are reading. Slaughterhouse Five is an excellent example of this. When describing the shock and horror that Billy witnessed during the firebombing of Dresden, Vonnegut takes the time to describe Weary and Wild Bob and Rumfoord, characters who find glory in wholesale death and destruction (Cox 272). In writing his response to the horrors of war, Vonnegut takes the approach that it is better to make the reader laugh at something and have them slowly realize the horror of what they have read, as opposed to immediately shocking the reader by presenting gory details of his experiences in Dresden. Even the name of his main character is subtle black humor. Billy Pilgrim, whose name is a reference to John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s Progress and connotes that Vonnegut s pilgrim is an average joe burdened with a life of agony and terror (F1). His name is also in reference to Vonnegut s feeling that the Second World War was a war fought by mere children, hence the book s subtitle The Children s Crusade. The idea of young men who were no more than children in essence when they were sent off to fight and die in a foreign land is a distressing and horrible idea for many people to think about. Yet through his humor Vonnegut forces the reader to come to terms with this, but in a way that eases a reader into the darkness of the novel instead of running into it head on. In Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut does not limit his black humor to the topic of war, but also opens up criticisms of society as he sees it. Through the Tralfamadorian aliens that kidnap Billy and take him captive on their planet and the science fiction of Kilgore Trout, Vonnegut uses his humor in regards to a variety of topics not related to war. Once such example of Trout s novels that are throughout the story is The Gospel from Outer Space in which a visitor from outer space studied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1928, Charles Seeger and Ruth Crawford Seeger, Pete Seeger s father and step mother, along with John Lomax and his son Alan, began the Archive of American Folk Song at the Library of Congress, not only working to transcribe traditional songs that were at risk of disappearing, but they also encouraged the development of folk music as a tool for radical politics. This anthology of music would later help inspire Bob Dylan and others during the folk revival of the 1960s. This chronicling of folk music was all part of this rise of collectivist folk music at a time in which leftist politics wanted to produce a cultural identity in America for the folk before the power of corporate America. Some of the folk anthems of this time were songs like This Land is Your Land , recorded Woody Guthrie in 1944, or Which Side Are You On? , originally by Florence Reece in 1931 and recorded by the Almanac Singers in 1941. Both of these songs play into the collective ideas of the time by drawing the listener into the story of the song. Additionally, both songs serve as vehicles for political protest. This Land is Your Land can be seen as somewhat of a rallying cry because, after all, This land is your land/This land is my land , and not the land of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Universal Declaration Of Human Rights According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a doctrine created to ensure a mutual standard of treatment amongst all humans, every person deserves an equal set of life standards. According to Article 18 of this 30 Article document, everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance (Campbell, MacKinnon, and Stevens 98). This document also states in Article 5, no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment (Campbell, Mackinnon, and Stevens 97). The idea of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is commendable and I believe that achieving the goals that it states is necessary for ultimate global progress, but it unfortunately falls flat when put into practice, comparable in assessment to the goals and purpose of the United Nations versus the actual actions of the United Nations. Many of the declarations in the UDHR overlap with one another and prevent certain action from occurring. In the contentious issue of Female Genital Cutting, we can see the above articles clashing with one another. While it is every persons right to be able to freely practice their religion, it is also apparently every persons right to be able to be free of any degrading and harmful treatment that ... According to Turnbull and Paliwoda (2012) marketing revolves around the manner in which organisations communicate with consumers in the market. There are two main perspectives towards the understanding of what marketing is. From one perspective, it is the manner in which organisations communicate with their consumers regarding the existing products and also commication that is geared towards creating positive perceptions in the consumer market. Thus the approach points out that marketing is a tool used for value creation. The other perspective of marketing is more comprehensive as it encompases marketing as a tool and a process in the organization. with regards to this perspective, Challagalla, Murtha, and Jaworski (2014) define marketing as: the process of conception planning and execution, pricing, promotion and distribution of goods, ideas and services. Firstly, change began as Thomas Jefferson was elected president, which meant the beginning of the Democratic Republicans reign in office. But this development of the modern United States led not to a unified nation, yet it led to one divided. The expansion and development of ideas and land exposed great regional differences in the United Statesbetween 1800 and 1848. The guns were very heavy and had to be transported by water, which meant that only towns and fortresses that were close to a body of water could be attacked with artillery also known as the cannon. There were also some fortresses that were impervious to the early cannon attacks based on strong designs or natural defenses. The most common method of enlistment was actually through volunteering, but other men were forced to serve as well. The volunteers were attracted to service because of the money, and recruits joined from the mountains, towns, and even in war zones and the majority of them consisted of peasants or townsmen that needed work. Many men joined the army to escape the life of their father s work, to avoid criminal prosecution, to see more of the world, or to pursue honor. In addition to the volunteers, the governments also used forceful means of enlistment by recruiting an entire population of an area as a unit and forcing them to fight together. Other forms of forced recruiting included soldiers of defeated armies and the use of conscripts. The most sought after combat soldier was the veteran and many times a veteran would move from army to army depending on which one would make him the most money. The disagreements between the new superpowers grew to a point where the Cold Warbecame a fact. However, in the Cold War rhetoric the Third World still referred, in certain a certain sense, to another way the Third Way. The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment The Age of Enlightenment was an intellectual and scientific movement which is characterized by its rational and scientific approach to religious, social, political, and economic issues. Enlightenment ideals challenged the way people were taught to think and let them express their criticism of the church, the monarchy or whatever system they saw as unjust. The impact of the enlightenment movement was first seen in 18th century Europe and soon spread to different parts of the world. People who believed in these ideals were called enlightenment thinkers. Enlightenment thinkers were a voice for the masses who felt they were being manipulated by people holding all the power. It also helped the masses realize that they did not need the church or monarchy, and enlightenment thinkers were able to assemble a following to stop people of power taking advantage of those who were not quite as powerful. Over the years various researchers have raised concern about the relationship between playing musical instruments and performance in math. Performing well in math is a significant requirement in passing an examination. For this reason, extensive research has been conducted on some of how students can improve their performance in math. According to Cindy Zhan, playing music instruments engages the right hemisphere of the brain. On the other hand, tackling math problems involves the left hemisphere of the brain. Playing musical instrumentsthus creates a correlation between the two brain hemispheres and increases the brain thinking capacity. My prediction is that playing musical instruments greatly increases a student s performance in math. The main purpose of this investigation is to determine whether there is a relationship between playing musical instruments and increased performance in math. Data that will be collected include the math grades (American Grading System) of students playing musical instruments as well as for those who do not. The math scores will be used to determine how high students scored an overall grade in math and how good they are in playing musical instruments. The data which will be used will take the average score for 100 or more students both who play the instruments and those who do not.
