Accident Report Involving Human Errors
NTSB Accident Report Involving Human Errors
Abstract
The American Airlines Flight 1420 fatal accident is reported as a runway overrun accident. The NTSB
(National Transportation Safety Board) investigated the accident on what would result in the accident.
This work s basic objective is to put emphasis on the human aspects that resulted in the accident by
applying the Human Factor Analysis and Classification System (HFCAS). It also incorporates the
Swiss Chess approach to link the series of events that eventually became the set of events that
triggered the accident.
NTSB applied the HFCAS in the analysis of the human factors in the flight, and it was enlightening to
see that it proved on how the fatal even occurred. The HFACS synergized with the Swiss Chess
illustrates the manner in which one occurrence resonates to the other. Also, the model revealed that the
resources and regulations of the company after inadequate monitoring, combined with the prevalent
weather conditions and fatigued flight crew instigated unsafe actions. This includes wrong judgment
and errors that took place before and during the landing of the airplane.
Introduction
The American Airlines Flight 1420 was on its way to Little Rock National Airport on the 1st June
1999. The pilot of the airplane was regarded as an experienced one. NTSB (2001) reports that the
aircraft used in the flight is a McDonnell Douglas DC 9 82 (MD 82). The flight was scheduled to
touchdown at 11:50 P.M. and had an on

Exercise Is A Good And Normal Way For Lose Weight
Did you know, the percent of adults who are obese in the United States is 34.9% now, and it was
continually getting larger in the recent years (CDC)? What a surprise that more than 1 out of 3 adults
are obese in our country. Obesity can cause various health problems, such as high blood pressure,
diabetes, coronary heart disease, or even directly cause death. So, it is time to control and prevent
obesity. Exercise is a good and normal way to lose weight, but Melinda Moyer discusses about
another way, reducing the amount of carbs in people s daily lives. She leads readers to explore the
relation between carbs rich diet and obesity or chronic disease. Even though some other theories like
low fat diet were supported in the history, more facts and evidence prove that low carbs diet is the best
way to solve the problem. Moyer uses pathos, ethos and logos to persuade her audience to against
carbs, and choose low carb diet in her article Against The Grains. Pathos is the strategy that is used in
some sections of the article to appeal to audience s emotions. Moyer promptly attracts readers
attention by starting the article with her own experience of weight loss. She says she lost 15 pounds
because of the wheat free diet (Moyer 2). It may let readers (especially who are obese, and looking for
an efficient way to lose their weight) excited about this fact, and curious about how and why wheat
free diet helps with weight loss. Then, the readers will go through the following content

Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape
On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay not
much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia) According
to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a woman should
pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does. Because a woman is
likely become a victim in a rape case. In this article, the author also implies that even the law should
protect women from the rape, but women themselves still should build up a self protection awareness
to keep them away from the rape crime. (Paglia) However, even this article points out a main
argument about self protection awareness is necessary for a woman, but some of its point didn t
support the main argument of this article. In additional, the focus of my article is about to analysis the
article of Camille Paglia, On Date Rape. Also, I ll point out some misconceptions about her work.
The first point I recognized in Paglia s article is the third paragraph of the article, which explains that
because of the young feminists come from a white, middle class world, so that they expect everything
should be safe as they think. On the other side, because the black or Hispanic women grow up in a
different environment, where full of sexual culture, therefore they will pay more attention of their
safety (Paglia). In my opinion, the rape crime is not only existing in black and

Compare And Contrast Civilization And Western Civilization
The texts, The Western Heritage , and the Western Civilization offer unique perspectives on the birth
of the western civilization through the years predating the 1300s. Both narratives navigate through
thousands of years of history, exploring the political, economic, social and military aspects of the
evolution of the western civilization. Whilst both texts discuss the birth and creation of civilization as
defined by the western world, the readings vary stylistically as well as in their elaborations of the
evolution of society. While their themes of civilization such as religion, and agriculture coincide with
one another the approach in their discussion differs.
Once such difference can be seen in the introductions of the readings. While ... Show more content on

While Mesopotamia is greatly defined through it development of literature through writings such as
Hammurabi s code and religion through Babylonian gods and goddesses, Egyptian civilization is
greatly defined through the development of irrigation and agriculture. Egyptian civilization as
described in great lengths in the, Western Heritage was centered around the Nile River. With the aid of
the river, Egyptians were able to develop a complex agricultural system of planting and harvesting,
which allowed for a surplus of crops incomparable to the rest of the ancient world. By having an
advantageous agricultural system, Egypt was able to place their focus elsewhere, allowing for unified
society rather than having individual city states. Under this unified society, religion was the dominant
factor, leading to one of the world s first theocracies, as well as some of the western civilization s
greatest dynastic rulers. Although Egypt s unified state allowed for it to become one of the most
highly developed civilizations of the western world, it also led to its destruction. Due to its highly
unified state, Egypt rarely engaged in warfare amongst itself and other civilizations. This led to a
fundamentally lacking military skill, which caused their destruction by the

Deafness And Other Communication Disorders Essay
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD),
approximately 2 to 3 out of every 1,000 children in the United States are born with hearing loss in one
or both ears. (Quick Statistics About Hearing, 2016) Children who have impaired hearing face a
unique set of challenges, and as with many disabilities, early intervention is vital to their success both
academically and socially.
There are a few different categories of hearing loss in young children. Damage or obstruction to the
outer or middle ear results in conductive hearing loss. This damage is usually treatable but can have an
effect upon speech development. However, if the cause of the damage is dealt with medically, any
speech problems can typically be rectified by the time the child reaches school age. Another kind of
hearing loss is called sensorineural hearing loss, and is caused by damage or trauma to the auditory
nerve or the cochlea. This kind of hearing loss is usually permanent. Hearing loss also spans a range
from mild to profound, with the most severe resulting in deafness. Deafness is defined as a condition
in which a person cannot process language and speech aurally, and typically rely upon visual means
for communication. People who experience less profound hearing loss are termed to be hard of
hearing and can often process language to some extent, often with tools such as hearing aids or
cochlear implants. (Hunt, 2012, pp. 374 377)

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cost Oriented Pricing
Avoid Pricing Mistakes
Pricing is too cost oriented. Companies do not take enough account of the overall market demand and
consumer psychology.
Prices are not revised often enough to take advantage of changed conditions in the marketplace. Prices
are set independently of the rest of the marketing plan.
Prices are not varied enough for different product items and market segments.
Prices are set to match or better a competitor without justification or analysis. Types Of Pricing
Strategies
The best strategy for you will depend on your firm, your product and your market. Remember that you
do not have to use just one of the strategies outlined above. Many firms, in fact, use more than one
approach and arrive at a price that represents a reasonable compromise between each of these
strategies. 1. Cost oriented pricing: Many firms set product prices largely on the basis of ... Show

Demand oriented pricing: One obvious disadvantage of at least the target pricing component of cost
based pricing is that sales volume is affected by price. What is missing is a demand function showing
how many units the firm could expect to sell at different prices. It is very difficult to quantify how
much a price increase or decrease will affect demand. This relationship is called the price elasticity of
demand and differs between products. Another approach to pricing is to work backwards from the
products perceived value to the buyer, rather than forward from costs. A company develops a product
for a particular target market with price, quality and service to match the competition for that segment
of the market. Having determined this demand oriented price, the manufacturer then works out
whether, allowing for costs, there is sufficient profit on the item to make it worthwhile. There is no
formula for working out sales volume at the demand price. This figure has to be arrived at on the basis
of experience and a conservative estimate of the market share the product will

Comparing The Epics And The Epic Heroes
Comparison of the Epics In every epic, there are common themes that present themselves throughout
the story, such as war. The epics Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and The Mahabharata, share similar
characteristics in terms of their strength, values, and journeys. In each of the epics that will be
discussed, there is the occurrence of fighting for honor and to have a legacy. The epic heroes follow
many of the guidelines that Joseph Campbell has written in his book Hero with a Thousand Faces.
Joseph Campbell believed that the stages of a hero were to have a call to adventure, he is introduced in
his ordinary world, he is hesitant and may not want to fulfill his mission, the person is encouraged by
someone old and wise, the person is committed to their journey, there are tests and people to help the
hero, the hero faces his last, challenging quest, he potentially faces death, the hero survives his
journey and is rewarded in some way, he has a journey back to his home and could face more danger,
the hero is transformed by his experience, and the hero brings back treasures. Gilgamesh shows the
characteristics of hero according to Joseph Campbell because he faces many challenging quests in
particular his most dangerous is going to the king and queen of (idk) (where) to find the secret of
immortality, Gilgamesh survives his journey back from (where), Gilgamesh is transformed because he
becomes less shellfish, on the journey home he could have possibly been in danger because of the

Age Norms Within The Age
Age represents the length and duration of someone s life however; age also comes with an individuals
experience and maturity throughout his lifespan. Age norms are considered to be what society believes
an individual should act due to their own age. For example, having a job as bus boy at a restaurant
would fall under the category of age norms because typically teens are the ones who occupy these
kinds of jobs. As opposed to being older, the age norms appropriate for a waiter is someone who is a
young adult or older. The difference in age norms in these two jobs is being a waiter justifies you
being an adult in comparison to being a bus boy, which people of younger age usually occupy.
Acting your own age signifies the maturity one has. Although from time to time, we find ourselves not
acting our age in social situations. For example, the way I behave myself with my friends totally
differs from the way I behave with my parents. When I am with my parents I behave in a more formal
matter on the other hand, when I hang out with my friends the level of maturity and formality drops
enormously. When I am with my friends I feel that I don t need to act my age because I am
comfortable and let loose easier then if I am with my parents. A social situation in where I typically
don t act my age in is at concerts. In reality, concerts are age appropriate for everyone but it s the way
I react to the music and how I let loose that affects my level of maturity to act my age. When, I

Entitlement In A Few Good Men
Professor of American Literature Sarah Churchwell once said, People who are given whatever they
want soon develop a sense of entitlement and rapidly lose their sense of proportion. In the famous
movie A Few Good Men, Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, who is masterfully played by Jack Nicholson,
exudes arrogance in his every action throughout the crime fiction thriller. Furthermore, Lieutenant
Daniel Kaffee uses his late father s past occupation of United States Attorney General to obtain his
own sense of entitlement and invincibility. Two independent scenarios occur in the film that support
this theory of entitlement; three different decorated authors also contain evidence as to why this might
be the case for Colonel Jessup and Lieutenant Kaffee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene refers to a situation early on in the film when Lieutenant Kaffee is late to a meeting with
his fellow comrades. Unprepared and disrespectful, he is still assigned a case to defend two marines
who have killed another. No punishment for neither being late to the meeting nor being unprepared
and disrespectful to his equals. Zimbardo and Milgram alike would likely begin by both regressing to
their previous points in proving that submission to a person causes the entitlement feeling in that
person s mind; both of which concluded with these results in their respective experiments (Z M
84,113). However, specialized writer and editor, Kori Ellis, would refute that this is the only reason
that Kaffee feels as entitled and invincible that he indeed feels. Spoiled kids often develop into self
absorbed adults with a lack of self control and a major sense of entitlement, she writes. Furthermore,
she illustrates that these spoiled children, as adults, carry this sense of entitlement throughout their
lives causing them to be disliked and frowned upon in the work force (Ellis). Quick, concurring
comments would likely be made by School Age Children Expert Katherine Lee when she discusses
the effects on children as a result to a lack of discipline throughout her article, Surprising Reasons
Why We Need to Discipline Our Children. Discipline is essential to a child s proper development and
a lack of discipline is detrimental, she illustrates. This causes the child to struggle respecting others,
similar to how Kaffee feels throughout the duration of the film especially coming to focus in the
meeting scene discussed (Lee). Lieutenant Kaffee s father, as previously mentioned, was the attorney
general of the United States: To put this in perspective, the only authority to this position is the
President of the United States. There was

The Snowman Symbolism
The scene of the snowman that Jem and Scout built represents the Plantation South and how the
whites got credit for everything that the slaves did. Jem s creation of the snowman also brings to mind
God s Creation of man. That God was willing to save mankind from sin by sacrificing His Son Jesus
shows that all people have worth.
That shows symbolism of how the building blocks of white society was based on black labor. Jem and
Scout built a mudman because there wasn t enough snow on the ground to make a snowman. When
Scout sees what he is doing she says Jem I ain t ever heard of a nigger snowman. Jem finishes
building the mudman and then covers it with white snow. The snowman that eventually turns out to be
a snow woman is symbolic. It

Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning small
battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes masculinity in a
way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our society today.
Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and ability to discover
and examine all the possible meanings of masculinity by different scholars, academics, peers and even
through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we choose to identify ourselves with.
William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive author who is rich in his writing.
Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on women s studies, it does nonetheless share
and consists of issues in women s studies and gender ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he
occasionally supports the English Renaissance stereotypes of men and women and the ... Show more

However, when reflecting upon the character Orsino, one may begin to question this. A significant
attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and appearances
in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these distinctions today.
In the Renaissance period, facial hair often granted masculinity as the beard made the man (Fisher,
2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the genitals can definitely
distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the Renaissance period, something
as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore, it is obvious that masculinity can
be presented through a combination of

Racial Segregation In Birmingham, Alabama
Birmingham, Alabama was described by King to be probably the most thoroughly segregated city in
the United States and was heavily impacted by racial discrimination. The city was in need for change,
the failure in previous desegregation campaigns did not benefit the predominant racism that occurred
in Birmingham. In 1963, Birmingham had a population of almost 350,000 people, 60% white and 40%
black meaning white dominated in numbers. Racism occurred everywhere, Birmingham had no black
police officers, firefighters, sales workers in department stores, bus drivers, bankers or even store

An Organization For Employee Incentives
Short Paper
In any organization implementing employee incentives will only make the business flourish. An
incentive is something that motivates an individual to perform to the best of their ability. Using
incentives to motivate the employees can create a successful business, but it has to be done properly.
In fact, employee incentives relate to positive reinforcements because if an individual gets rewarded
for performing a task efficiently, then they are more likely to repeat that task again. Some people
believe that money is as the only incentive to motivate employees, but that is incorrect. Money can
only motivate employees when a task is simple and does not require conceptual, creative thinking.
(YouTube) Consequently, money does not always influence individuals and may create an even bigger
problem. According to the book, An important principle is that the stronger the incentive intensity, the
stronger the motivation, but also the greater the chance that there will be unintended, undesirable
consequences. In other words, if there is a giant cash reward in play, this will increase motivation of
all employees, which may lead to an unfortunate result because the employees will become stressed
out. Therefore, the more a manager creates employee incentives the more the company will benefit in
the end. Managers have to first start by treating their employees as people and nothing else. In fact,
employee recognition programs create an increased sense of worth and improved

Social Media And Electronic Communication
Communication
Electronic communication technologies influence the social development of adolescents in several
ways including interpersonal communication, and emphasized that interpersonal communications are
depersonalized because adolescent now conduct a higher proportion of communication electronically
rather than face to face or voice to voice. (Subrahmanyam greenfield, 2008). Any type technology to
communicate with others, such as cell phones, instant messaging, and social networking sites, it
deprives any visual or auditory cues of facial expression, body language, and voice dynamics (Cyr,
Berman, Smith, 2014). Interpersonal relationship problems arise when messages on either end are
misunderstood (Erozkan, 2013).
When adolescents communicate face to face, it provides an adequate tone of voice, therefore the
message is more clearly, in contrast, when using social media, the reader may misinterpret the
message. Erozkan (2013) emphasized that without effective communication, a message can turn into
error, misunderstanding, or frustration. Communication is the basis of personal relationships and
effective communication happens when the message that is sent is the same message that is received
(Erozkan, 2013). This can cause differences in relationships as interactions face to face are necessary.
Although face to face interactions provides more meaning to relationships, adolescents opt to use their
electronic communication. Some adolescents might be more expressive

Reason In Tartuffe
Michelle Dixon
Response Paper #3
February 18, 2015 The seventeenth century play Tartuffe, by French writer MoliĂšre, is essentially
governed by the central theme of reason. MoliĂšre illustrates the importance of reason and logic by
highlighting it in some of the main characters, and exaggerating lack thereof in others. Like many
other French works from the seventeenth century, he emphasizes the significance of having the ability
to reason, and in doing so brings attention to the religious hypocrisy associated with this period of
enlightenment. Although he focuses on this theme through most of the characters in the play, I feel
that Dorine and ClĂšante are the two characters that essentially serve to represent or personify the voice
of reason. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the entire play, ClĂšante s calm and careful observations and rational suggestions serve to
illustrate that he is both knowledgeable and reasonable. His sensibility and rationality is exemplified
in his statement to Damis that the King will put a stop to people who use violence to get their way
(195). In this statement, ClĂšante is urging Damis to show some self control, and this conveys that
ClĂšante s character serves as an example of maturity and good reasoning to others. For the duration of
the play, ClĂšante gives advice to several characters, and ultimately reminds them all to show mercy to
Tartuffe, despite his hypocrisy and deceitfulness. He says, He feels quite bad enough no need to
remonstrate. Its better you should hope that what s been done today will coax his wayward heart to
follow virtue s way (206). In this statement, it is apparent that ClĂšante s character is a symbol of
reason, for despite Tartuffe s trickery, ClĂšante maintains his sensibility, and convinces the others to do

I appreciate the usage the small bird as a symbol which can provoke such deep thoughts about our life.
For me, the nightingale s song is the symbols of beauty which should be really enjoyed. It is this small
bird who is free to fly wherever it wants to, singing its beautiful song and making the world better and
nicer for us. I really like the whole idea of John Keats having a moment for himself listening to this
sweet song and thinking about it and its originator. Our life can sometimes be a little bit stressful.
People deals with stress in different kinds of way. One of them can be savouring of those moments
that feels really nice, in which we can be left alone to our thoughts. I think that it is really important to
always look on the brighter side of life. My life is sacred to me. I feel that people are given lives for
some reason and it should be their duty to try to live in the best possible way. Those small moments,
sometimes similar to the one John Keats experienced in the garden of his friend Charles Brown while
listening to the nightingale5, are also important. These moments can compensate for the suffering
which sometimes comes to our days. Life is a precious thing and we should savour it like the smallest
breath of air. We should not waste our time and energy on bad things which will not matter in the end.
One moment our life is in our lungs and in a few seconds it fades away.

Taiping Rebellion Research Paper
December of 1850 to 1864 gave us an event that has been lost in time, yet this extraordinary event
took the lives of over 20,000,000 Chinese people, more casualties than any other world event except

Mistakes In Siddhartha
Life: A Trial and Error
Each and everyday countless mistakes are made, some insignificant and some life changing.
Regardless of a mistake s magnitude, all are followed by a set of consequences. While a mistake is an
accidental error in the human decision making process, a consequence is the price in which an
individual must pay as a result. Although mistakes are made without intention, they can, in turn, be
analyzed as a source of knowledge and learning. Hermann Hesse depicts the true value and
importance of mistakes throughout his novel Siddhartha. Experiencing many mistakes along with their
consequences, the novel s protagonist, Siddhartha, learns to face and embrace them as a part of his
path through life. This acceptance in which Siddhartha displays allows him to become closer in his
journey to finding enlightenment. Much like any other human being, Siddhartha makes innumerable
mistakes that both help and hinder his journey to enlightenment. Despite ... Show more content on

How Fear Can Destroy An Individual
Incident at Vichy displays the powerful and compelling example of how fear can destroy an
individual. The play takes place in Vichy, France in 1942. The Vichy government is controlled by the
Germans, who have taken over power for the last two years. A group of men and a young boy have
been arrested and have found themselves in a depressing and empty building sitting on a bench
waiting. All of the men and young boy were stopped, while alone, on a street when suddenly a car
pulled up to them and detectives in street clothing accompanied by a Professor, forced them to get into
a car. The moment all the men are brought together on the bench without an explanation given to them
as to why they were arrested, their location corresponds to or becomes relative to the guarded door
down a long corridor. A couple of the many themes that this play explores is the theme of humanity s
behaviors towards one another and responsibility. How does ones fear become clear or obvious? At
what point are we able to make logical justifications when face to face with fear? When confronted
with an institutionalized system that takes away all of your rights, would an individual or group of
people realize the importance of other acts of prejudice or discrimination? Would this injustice trigger
one to act? Would this injustice trigger others who are not affected to act? The destiny of these group
of men are determined in a short amount of time. But these moments, filled with tension, uncertainty,

Spider-Man Is A Favourite Hero
The World s Favourite Webslinger.
Everyone has once wanted to be a superhero. Whether you grew out of it to play with basketballs and
Barbie dolls or race cars; or if you still hope that one day you ll miraculously be able to fly and lift
things three times your size that dream was still there. As kids, being able to save people and the world
seems unlikely, yet because of figures that we had to look up to, we believed that nothing was really
impossible. Spider Man is one of these said figures. Spider Man was created by Steve Ditko and Stan
Lee for Marvel comics in the sixties, but if you couldn t already tell by the countless reboots, Peter
Parker s Spider Man is still one of Marvel s most popular superheroes to date. Peter Parker is a fifteen
year old, who s just like anyone else. It just so happens that he got bit by a radioactive spider one day
and his life changed immensely. He s incredibly smart and inventive, but when it all comes down to it:
he s just a normal teenager who s struggling to find himself, let alone strategize how to defeat bad
guys in his spare time when he doesn t have to worry about homework. Spider Man has been a
superhero that has transcended through time as the underdog that resonates with people, providing
those with the hope that anyone can be a hero and help out the little guy.
Though he was created in 1962, Spider Man seems to never grow old or become outdated. He
naturally wants to help people, to be someone who helps

1.5 Rationale for the study
Backing out of job offers is a big issue especially in country like India because of the bullish job
market. Market has become filthy now a days, guys are playing with the Offer Letters... they try to get
one offer and play around with other companies to get more than what he had in that offer.
Recruitment is an expensive activity. Every time a candidate backs out the recruitment process has to
be initiated all over again. Good amount of time and effort is wasted to find a new replacement and
projects can and do get delayed and all these translates to revenue loss. But most important of all is the
loss of client s trust. This is intangible and will have long term adverse effect vis Ă  vis client vendor
relationship. Hence the study to find the areas where WIPRO fails in retaining recruited candidates .

are extremely crucial to the organisation since their value to the organization is essentially intangible

Collectivism Is More Rational Than Belief
I will be using rationality as the main criterion for evaluating which philosophy is preferable, so the
resolution can basically be re stated as belief in collectivism is more rational than belief in
individualism . My case revolves around 3 independently functioning reasons for why an affirmation
of the resolution is more plausible than a negation of it. I. Collectivism increases the chances of
individual success The logic underlying this is simple. A society, by definition, is a group of
individuals. So when we value the interests of society , we are really just valuing the interests of the
largest possible number of individuals within that society we are valuing the interests of the majority.
And since an individual is statistically more likely to part of the majority than the minority (duh),
collectivism ensures that any given individual is more likely to have their interests protected than not.
Thus, theoretically, collectivism increases the probability of individual prosperity. However, this is not
only demonstrable in theory; we can see empirical examples of this holding true in practice as well.
Just take a look at nature we can easily observe a large variety of species that instinctively live in
large, interactive groups in which collective welfare is valued over individual welfare wolves,
elephants, lions, chimpanzees, meerkats, bison, sheep, antelopes, ants, bees, ducks, small fish, and
many more fall into this category. There is a reason why such a

Explain How Is Dubai A Capitalist Model
Is Dubai a capitalist model in the Middle East? Even that Dubai has its own challenges to deal with,
but it dazzled the world s attention in the last few years from its remarkable success story. Dubai is a
city that considered as one of the fastest growing country in the world. It has gone from strength to

reasons that makes Dubai a capitalist model is that the way they have built and organized their roads.
Dubai s streets have a reputation for their width and infrastructure. The Dubai roads instructor helped

other words, Dubai Municipality s budget spends approximately billions on the infrastructure every

Greek Funerals Death
The Loss of a Loved One
Have you ever wondered how other culture s funerals play out? Diverse cultures have different
religions. Therefore, funerals and mourning look different depending on their religion. The Greek,
Roman, and Egyptian mourning and funerals are strange, fascinating, and somewhat gross. Roman
funerals and mourning were precise, and had peculiar ways in completing them. The structure of the
funeral depended on whether the deceased person was rich, famous, or poor. A process called the
Procession was a time of mourning and respect for the dead. If the deceased was wealthy or famous,
they always had flashier funerals then the poor. They would hire musicians, mimes, and sometimes

An Egyptian funerary ritual consists of death and the soul s journey to the afterlife. Historian Bunson
once said, Eternity was the common destination of each man, women and child in Egypt , however,
not an Egypt in the clouds or sky, but one that mirrored one s life on earth. The Fields of Reeds was
the Egyptian afterlife which was a perfect reflection of the deceased s life on earth. These burial rites
were practiced as early as 4000 BCE and help reflect this vision of eternity. Next was the
mummification process, which was practiced in Egypt as early as 3500 BCE. After a person had died,
the family would bring the body to embalmers. Then the embalmers would offer three choices to the
bereaved. The first was (Ikram, 53) which involved the family agreeing upon a price and leaving the
task to the embalmers. For ( Ikram, 53) the embalmers would have the internal organs removed, to
help preserve the body. Then the organs were put in jars and left in tomb with the wrapped body. The
second chose was (Osiris) and it was the most expensive of the three choices. If this process is chosen
the body is laid out on a table and the brain is extracted from the body, before they deceased is
wrapped and buried. The last choice of the three is (Nardo, 110) which represents the cheapest of them
all. In this choice nothing was removed from the body, the embalmers would simply wash out the

Characteristics Of Regionalism
Essay 1
American Literature 2328
Fall 2017
Professor Roy Ruane
Tham Paija October 2, 2017
Realism is the portrayal of the reality of everyday life and period of literature between 1850 1900.
Realist fictions speculate myths, assumptions, social norms, sentimentality, collective wisdom, and
prejudices. Realism stories are usually about the middle class people, and it aims to show a truthful
portrayal of truth. Regionalism is a class of realist literature distinguished by closeness to the habits,
language, dialects, manners, history, traditions, beliefs of a particular geographical region.
Regionalism manifests the characters of both realism and romanticism. Romanticism is cultural the
period from 1830 1860 in America. Humankind is naturally good. The characteristics of romanticism
are passion and emotion, nature over the man, spiritual, intuition, and insight. A White Heron, by
Sarah Orne Jewett, is an example of local color because of its realism. Jewett uses characteristics of
regionalism like dialogue to show the contrast between the locals and outsiders, habits, their daily
activities, the dress, features of a place. Editha by William is the story of realism which has many
characteristics of realism like details about war; he uses dialect to hold out the trend of the story, using
middle class peoples character. Dean Howell uses a part of romantic style but all together its

How Did The Gaelic League Affect The Irish Dance
When I hear the words The Gaelic League , I automatically think of the period when the Irish
language was restored in Ireland. I agree with the above statement. The Gaelic League influenced the
promotion of the Irish dance tradition greatly in the 20th century as dance was very important. It was a
massive part of Irish culture and it maintained Irish identity. It was founded by O Growney and
Douglas Hyde in 1893. It established an agency called An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (the
commission for Irish dances) in 1930. It was set up to promote and standardize Irish traditional group
dancing and solo step dancing. It organised classes, festivals and competitions. An Coimisiun is still
around today. In this essay, I will discuss the impact the Gaelic League had on Irish dance, how it
spread from Ireland and became global and how it is still very popular today.
There is very little reference of Irish dance before the 20th century. The earliest reference was a group
dance with various different formations. Before the Gaelic League formed, dance classes were mainly
held in rural Munster. There were held simultaneously with language classes. Irish dance became more
popular in Ireland as a result of regular weekly classes, competitions and ceili dances. Dance was once
forbidden in houses of rural Ireland. In Brennan s article, we learn that during the ... Show more

In addition, this new nationalist designation of the form provided a necessary ingredient to the
institutional organization of Irish dancing and the modern competitive model through which the form
developed and is practiced today (Cullinane, 2003, p.6). The Gaelic League set up Irish dance schools
in the 1920s. The dances that were taught were controlled by the league and had to be Irish. The
league organised competitions called feiseanna to promote Irish culture. This also developed more
interest in Irish

The Ferocactus Latispinus
Assignment #2 The ferocactus latispinus, commonly known as the crow s claw cactus, is a barrel
cactus originated from Mexico. The cactus is in the phylum Tracheophyta and of the family
Cactaceae, with three recognized subspecies. It resides in the states of Aguascalientes, Guanajuato,
Jalisco, Querétaro, Zacatecas, Coahuila, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Puebla, and Mexico State.
The crow s claw grows in mountain elevations of ten thousand feet, and blooms between the months
of October and March. Goats are a great factor in dispersing viable seeds of the cactus. (IUCN) The
body of the crow s claw cactus is barrel like, and averages approximately ten to fifteen inches in
height. Fourteen to twenty three ribs and grey black areoles compose the body of the cactus, along
with four large central spines. The cactus blooms yellow or pink purple flowers in late autumn or the
early winter, and are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. (Faucon) A distinctive difference between crow s
claw cactus and other plants is that cacti have stems which function as leaves. Because cacti do not
have leaves, stems contain main photosynthetic organs, areoles, and water storage tissues. In addition,
stems are coated with a cuticle, a waxy layer that prevents water loss. A possible hypothesis as to why
cacti, specifically the ferocactus latispinus, have stems rather than leaves relates to the climate in
which cacti grow; environments in which cacti grow in are relatively hot and dry, with little

Montresor s Aristocracy
Aristocracy in the nineteenth century was widespread and revered in many nations in Europe. It was
the basis upon which many diplomatic and governing bodies ruled. Poe attempts to portray an element
of social class and order into The Cask of Amontillado, though it was cleverly modulated almost to the
point of barely existing as is reminiscent of his literary aesthetic. Baraban adopted this principle as the
principal argument to the events occurring in the text. She explains that unlike many detective stories,
the question asked is not who did it? But why do it? In her research, she discovered that this single
unattainable portion of the story led to many critics justifying the actions of Montresor as a result of
his insanity, which was not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first offence as portrayed in the text was when Fortunato took hold of Montresor s arm and led
them towards the latter s residence. According to Baraban, He suffered when his offender virtually led
him to his palazzo because etiquette does not allow minor aristocracy the liberty of touching someone
of more noble origin. This supports her previously stated notion concerning the difference of class
between the two characters. Montresor, having a higher aristocratic background, feels unsettled with
Fortunato s display of dominance over the situation and his effort to belittle the esteem of his host.
The second offence was Fortunato s statement concerning the Montresor coat of arms, I forget your
arms....And the motto? Overlooking the main identifier and representative figure of a notable family is
an insult on its own, relaying the demeaning notion that one s family crest is not important enough to
be remembered and revered. The final offence committed by Fortunato was his implication that
Montresor was not a part of the masons. Then you are not of the brotherhood....You are not of the
masons. The masons were a group of nobles and social elites with high ranks in the society joined
together by their common need to influence decisions and policy making in the society, performing in
a sort of oligarchy. Montresor could not identify the gesture made by Fortunato because he was not as
involved in the politics of his peers as he ought to be in order to maintain his social standing in the
society. This proves why Fortunato was quick to assume that he was unaware of the inner workings of
the masonry

The Invention Of Nature By Andrea Wulf
Alexander Von Humboldt was a Prussian naturalist whose work has helped shape and define our
modern understanding of nature. He used enlightenment rationalism to navigate his way through life
and his deep connection to his natural environment inspired a visionary movement in ushering out the
monotheistic creationist worldview. Humboldt s books, diaries and letters reveal a visionary, a thinker
far ahead of his time. He invented isotherms...discovered the magnetic equator...came up with the idea
of vegetation and climate zones that snake across the globe...and revolutionized the way we see the
natural world. (Invention of Nature, 5). Although his work was extensive, author of The Invention of
Nature, Andrea Wulf suggests that his work has largely been forgotten due to his polymath approach
of including art, history, poetry and politics that made him unfavorable. While Humboldt gave us our
concept of nature itself, the irony is that Humboldt s views have become so self evident that we have
largely forgotten the man behind them. However, although his work individual work may be
overlooked, Humboldt s success in making science more accessible work and as a result, his legacy
lives on as the source of inspiration for many influential thinkers throughout history. One of the most
influential thinkers inspired by Humboldt, who helps us remember Humboldt s legacy is John Muir.
Inspired by Von Humboldt s travels, Muir wanted to explore the world just like Von Humboldt. He

The Effects Of Climate Change On Sea Otters
How Does Climate Change Change Affect Sea Otters
Sea Otters as well as many other species are in danger because of Climate Change. The sudden change
in climate has disturbed the ocean s temperature which causes an insufficient amount of food for sea
otters which causes the otters to be malnourished and starved. Because of the change in climate there
has been a decrease in the amount of harp seals (Foley, 2013) which happens to be the killer whales
main prey, because of this the killer whales have now turned to sea otters. Other likely threats to sea
otters because of climate change are ocean acidification in the north Pacific, pathogen transport,
marine invasive species, biotoxins withdrawn in bivalve prey, and the recurrence and intensity of
storm events (Doroff and Burdin, 2015) . Sea otters have a noticeably solid influence on the wealth of
kelp through the impact they have on sea urchins, said James A. Estes, a professor of ecology and
evolutionary biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz who was a co author on Schmitz s
2014 review and on the original sea otter study. Otters eat urchins. Urchins eat kelp. So in ocean
patches where otters are bountiful, urchin populations collapse and kelp tends to thrive (Estes,Cruz
and Schmitz,2014). The study, led by Wilmers and published in 2012, found that across the otter s
range the animal could be indirectly at fault for getting rid of as much as 8.7 million tons of carbon
dioxide, more than twice what an average

AP Classes Advantages And Disadvantages
High school is a very hectic time in a teenager s life. There are multiple different things going on, such
as classes to choose, who to be friends with, deciding on colleges and careers, and much more. There
are many classes to choose from. Once classes have been chosen, it is now time to pick what level is
most beneficial: regular, honors, or Advanced Placement. But be warned, Advanced Placement classes
do not benefit US students because they are too rushed and the students are not prepared to take them.
It is understood that many parents believe that AP classes can improve their GPA, prepare them for
college, and teach them many important skills; such as leadership, determination, and critical thinking.
Taking an AP class, even one, can change a student s GPA. The common misconception is that the
courses being taken can improve a one s GPA. It is indeed true that doing well in an AP course can
drastically improve a student s GPA. The amount of points awarded for having a high grade in the
class is much higher than the amount of points for taking the same class at a regular level. An A in a
regular class is worth four points, but an A in an AP class is worth 4.08 points. Those .08 points can
add up quickly if a student is taking more than one AP course. While doing well in an AP course is
rewarded handsomely, doing poorly in an AP course can have a negative impact on a student s GPA.
As stated above, the .08 that comes with the course can add up, what with multiple classes

The hip, one of the largest major weight bearing joints in the body. It s where the thigh bone also
known as the femur meets three other bones known as the pelvic bone. These bones create a ball and
socket joint which is when a ball shaped bone (femur) articulates with cup shape cavity of another
bone (pelvic bone). A ball and socket joint is also characterized as synovial joint. Synovial joints are
more complex joints that are held together by a capsule of dense connective tissue and filled with
synovial fluid that lubricates the joints. The joint capsule which is composed of large ligaments,
tendons, and other muscles keeps the hip from dislocating. The head of the femur and the socket of the
hip bone (acetabulum) is covered with articular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The femoral neck or intracapsular fracture occurs when the neck of the femur breaks and sometimes
the ball may move out of it s place. This type of fracture happens more likely with athletes and
performers. Over years there have been several methods orthopedists have used to fix femoral neck
fractures. In 1931, Smith Petersen used internal fixation by reducing pain and pressure to the fractured
parts followed by immobilization in a spica cast application. Until 1970 another widely spread method
called the multiple pin fixation technique was introduced by another orthopedist. In this method the
fracture fragments would heal with the insertion of Pugh nails and Richards screws. Both of these
methods include a sliding fixation process where the fractured fragments rub against each other. The
second type of hip fracture which is repaired more frequently is intertrochanteric hip fracture. The
intertrochanteric hip fracture occurs slightly below the neck of the femur and the lesser trochanter.
These fractures undergo a treatment that involves the insertion of AO proximal femoral or sliding
plates, intramedullary nails, cannulated or dynamic hip screws, and/or rods to balance and protect the
fractures. After the surgery, surgeries suggest that the patients stay in bed to make sure the fracture
does not occur again. The third type of hip fracture is subtrochanteric fracture. The

  • 2. Accident Report Involving Human Errors NTSB Accident Report Involving Human Errors Abstract The American Airlines Flight 1420 fatal accident is reported as a runway overrun accident. The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) investigated the accident on what would result in the accident. This work s basic objective is to put emphasis on the human aspects that resulted in the accident by applying the Human Factor Analysis and Classification System (HFCAS). It also incorporates the Swiss Chess approach to link the series of events that eventually became the set of events that triggered the accident. NTSB applied the HFCAS in the analysis of the human factors in the flight, and it was enlightening to see that it proved on how the fatal even occurred. The HFACS synergized with the Swiss Chess illustrates the manner in which one occurrence resonates to the other. Also, the model revealed that the resources and regulations of the company after inadequate monitoring, combined with the prevalent weather conditions and fatigued flight crew instigated unsafe actions. This includes wrong judgment and errors that took place before and during the landing of the airplane. Introduction The American Airlines Flight 1420 was on its way to Little Rock National Airport on the 1st June 1999. The pilot of the airplane was regarded as an experienced one. NTSB (2001) reports that the aircraft used in the flight is a McDonnell Douglas DC 9 82 (MD 82). The flight was scheduled to touchdown at 11:50 P.M. and had an on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exercise Is A Good And Normal Way For Lose Weight Did you know, the percent of adults who are obese in the United States is 34.9% now, and it was continually getting larger in the recent years (CDC)? What a surprise that more than 1 out of 3 adults are obese in our country. Obesity can cause various health problems, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary heart disease, or even directly cause death. So, it is time to control and prevent obesity. Exercise is a good and normal way to lose weight, but Melinda Moyer discusses about another way, reducing the amount of carbs in people s daily lives. She leads readers to explore the relation between carbs rich diet and obesity or chronic disease. Even though some other theories like low fat diet were supported in the history, more facts and evidence prove that low carbs diet is the best way to solve the problem. Moyer uses pathos, ethos and logos to persuade her audience to against carbs, and choose low carb diet in her article Against The Grains. Pathos is the strategy that is used in some sections of the article to appeal to audience s emotions. Moyer promptly attracts readers attention by starting the article with her own experience of weight loss. She says she lost 15 pounds because of the wheat free diet (Moyer 2). It may let readers (especially who are obese, and looking for an efficient way to lose their weight) excited about this fact, and curious about how and why wheat free diet helps with weight loss. Then, the readers will go through the following content ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay not much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia) According to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a woman should pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does. Because a woman is likely become a victim in a rape case. In this article, the author also implies that even the law should protect women from the rape, but women themselves still should build up a self protection awareness to keep them away from the rape crime. (Paglia) However, even this article points out a main argument about self protection awareness is necessary for a woman, but some of its point didn t support the main argument of this article. In additional, the focus of my article is about to analysis the article of Camille Paglia, On Date Rape. Also, I ll point out some misconceptions about her work. The first point I recognized in Paglia s article is the third paragraph of the article, which explains that because of the young feminists come from a white, middle class world, so that they expect everything should be safe as they think. On the other side, because the black or Hispanic women grow up in a different environment, where full of sexual culture, therefore they will pay more attention of their safety (Paglia). Compare And Contrast Civilization And Western Civilization The texts, The Western Heritage , and the Western Civilization offer unique perspectives on the birth of the western civilization through the years predating the 1300s. Both narratives navigate through thousands of years of history, exploring the political, economic, social and military aspects of the evolution of the western civilization. Whilst both texts discuss the birth and creation of civilization as defined by the western world, the readings vary stylistically as well as in their elaborations of the evolution of society. While their themes of civilization such as religion, and agriculture coincide with one another the approach in their discussion differs. Once such difference can be seen in the introductions of the readings. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Mesopotamia is greatly defined through it development of literature through writings such as Hammurabi s code and religion through Babylonian gods and goddesses, Egyptian civilization is greatly defined through the development of irrigation and agriculture. Egyptian civilization as described in great lengths in the, Western Heritage was centered around the Nile River. With the aid of the river, Egyptians were able to develop a complex agricultural system of planting and harvesting, which allowed for a surplus of crops incomparable to the rest of the ancient world. By having an advantageous agricultural system, Egypt was able to place their focus elsewhere, allowing for unified society rather than having individual city states. Under this unified society, religion was the dominant factor, leading to one of the world s first theocracies, as well as some of the western civilization s greatest dynastic rulers. Although Egypt s unified state allowed for it to become one of the most highly developed civilizations of the western world, it also led to its destruction. Due to its highly unified state, Egypt rarely engaged in warfare amongst itself and other civilizations. This led to a fundamentally lacking military skill, which caused their destruction by the ... (Quick Statistics About Hearing, 2016) Children who have impaired hearing face a unique set of challenges, and as with many disabilities, early intervention is vital to their success both academically and socially. There are a few different categories of hearing loss in young children. Damage or obstruction to the outer or middle ear results in conductive hearing loss. This damage is usually treatable but can have an effect upon speech development. However, if the cause of the damage is dealt with medically, any speech problems can typically be rectified by the time the child reaches school age. Another kind of hearing loss is called sensorineural hearing loss, and is caused by damage or trauma to the auditory nerve or the cochlea. This kind of hearing loss is usually permanent. Hearing loss also spans a range from mild to profound, with the most severe resulting in deafness. Deafness is defined as a condition in which a person cannot process language and speech aurally, and typically rely upon visual means for communication. People who experience less profound hearing loss are termed to be hard of hearing and can often process language to some extent, often with tools such as hearing aids or cochlear implants. • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cost Oriented Pricing Avoid Pricing Mistakes Pricing is too cost oriented. Companies do not take enough account of the overall market demand and consumer psychology. Prices are not revised often enough to take advantage of changed conditions in the marketplace. Prices are set independently of the rest of the marketing plan. Prices are not varied enough for different product items and market segments. Prices are set to match or better a competitor without justification or analysis. Types Of Pricing Strategies The best strategy for you will depend on your firm, your product and your market. Remember that you do not have to use just one of the strategies outlined above. Many firms, in fact, use more than one approach and arrive at a price that represents a reasonable compromise between each of these strategies. 1. Cost oriented pricing: Many firms set product prices largely on the basis of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Demand oriented pricing: One obvious disadvantage of at least the target pricing component of cost based pricing is that sales volume is affected by price. What is missing is a demand function showing how many units the firm could expect to sell at different prices. It is very difficult to quantify how much a price increase or decrease will affect demand. This relationship is called the price elasticity of demand and differs between products. Another approach to pricing is to work backwards from the products perceived value to the buyer, rather than forward from costs. A company develops a product for a particular target market with price, quality and service to match the competition for that segment of the market. Having determined this demand oriented price, the manufacturer then works out whether, allowing for costs, there is sufficient profit on the item to make it worthwhile. There is no formula for working out sales volume at the demand price. This figure has to be arrived at on the basis of experience and a conservative estimate of the market share the product will ... • 8. Comparing The Epics And The Epic Heroes Comparison of the Epics In every epic, there are common themes that present themselves throughout the story, such as war. The epics Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and The Mahabharata, share similar characteristics in terms of their strength, values, and journeys. In each of the epics that will be discussed, there is the occurrence of fighting for honor and to have a legacy. The epic heroes follow many of the guidelines that Joseph Campbell has written in his book Hero with a Thousand Faces. Joseph Campbell believed that the stages of a hero were to have a call to adventure, he is introduced in his ordinary world, he is hesitant and may not want to fulfill his mission, the person is encouraged by someone old and wise, the person is committed to their journey, there are tests and people to help the hero, the hero faces his last, challenging quest, he potentially faces death, the hero survives his journey and is rewarded in some way, he has a journey back to his home and could face more danger, the hero is transformed by his experience, and the hero brings back treasures. Gilgamesh shows the characteristics of hero according to Joseph Campbell because he faces many challenging quests in particular his most dangerous is going to the king and queen of (idk) (where) to find the secret of immortality, Gilgamesh survives his journey back from (where), Gilgamesh is transformed because he becomes less shellfish, on the journey home he could have possibly been in danger because of the deadly ... • 9. Age Norms Within The Age Age represents the length and duration of someone s life however; age also comes with an individuals experience and maturity throughout his lifespan. Age norms are considered to be what society believes an individual should act due to their own age. For example, having a job as bus boy at a restaurant would fall under the category of age norms because typically teens are the ones who occupy these kinds of jobs. As opposed to being older, the age norms appropriate for a waiter is someone who is a young adult or older. The difference in age norms in these two jobs is being a waiter justifies you being an adult in comparison to being a bus boy, which people of younger age usually occupy. Acting your own age signifies the maturity one has. Although from time to time, we find ourselves not acting our age in social situations. For example, the way I behave myself with my friends totally differs from the way I behave with my parents. When I am with my parents I behave in a more formal matter on the other hand, when I hang out with my friends the level of maturity and formality drops enormously. When I am with my friends I feel that I don t need to act my age because I am comfortable and let loose easier then if I am with my parents. A social situation in where I typically don t act my age in is at concerts. In reality, concerts are age appropriate for everyone but it s the way I react to the music and how I let loose that affects my level of maturity to act my age. When, I ... • 10. Entitlement In A Few Good Men Professor of American Literature Sarah Churchwell once said, People who are given whatever they want soon develop a sense of entitlement and rapidly lose their sense of proportion. In the famous movie A Few Good Men, Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, who is masterfully played by Jack Nicholson, exudes arrogance in his every action throughout the crime fiction thriller. Furthermore, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee uses his late father s past occupation of United States Attorney General to obtain his own sense of entitlement and invincibility. Two independent scenarios occur in the film that support this theory of entitlement; three different decorated authors also contain evidence as to why this might be the case for Colonel Jessup and Lieutenant Kaffee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scene refers to a situation early on in the film when Lieutenant Kaffee is late to a meeting with his fellow comrades. Unprepared and disrespectful, he is still assigned a case to defend two marines who have killed another. No punishment for neither being late to the meeting nor being unprepared and disrespectful to his equals. Zimbardo and Milgram alike would likely begin by both regressing to their previous points in proving that submission to a person causes the entitlement feeling in that person s mind; both of which concluded with these results in their respective experiments (Z M 84,113). However, specialized writer and editor, Kori Ellis, would refute that this is the only reason that Kaffee feels as entitled and invincible that he indeed feels. Spoiled kids often develop into self absorbed adults with a lack of self control and a major sense of entitlement, she writes. Furthermore, she illustrates that these spoiled children, as adults, carry this sense of entitlement throughout their lives causing them to be disliked and frowned upon in the work force (Ellis). Quick, concurring comments would likely be made by School Age Children Expert Katherine Lee when she discusses the effects on children as a result to a lack of discipline throughout her article, Surprising Reasons Why We Need to Discipline Our Children. Discipline is essential to a child s proper development and a lack of discipline is detrimental, she illustrates. This causes the child to struggle respecting others, similar to how Kaffee feels throughout the duration of the film especially coming to focus in the meeting scene discussed (Lee). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinity by different scholars, academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we choose to identify ourselves with. • 14. An Organization For Employee Incentives Short Paper In any organization implementing employee incentives will only make the business flourish. An incentive is something that motivates an individual to perform to the best of their ability. Using incentives to motivate the employees can create a successful business, but it has to be done properly. In fact, employee incentives relate to positive reinforcements because if an individual gets rewarded for performing a task efficiently, then they are more likely to repeat that task again. Some people believe that money is as the only incentive to motivate employees, but that is incorrect. Money can only motivate employees when a task is simple and does not require conceptual, creative thinking. (YouTube) Consequently, money does not always influence individuals and may create an even bigger problem. According to the book, An important principle is that the stronger the incentive intensity, the stronger the motivation, but also the greater the chance that there will be unintended, undesirable consequences. In other words, if there is a giant cash reward in play, this will increase motivation of all employees, which may lead to an unfortunate result because the employees will become stressed out. Therefore, the more a manager creates employee incentives the more the company will benefit in the end. Managers have to first start by treating their employees as people and nothing else. Any type technology to communicate with others, such as cell phones, instant messaging, and social networking sites, it deprives any visual or auditory cues of facial expression, body language, and voice dynamics (Cyr, Berman, Smith, 2014). Interpersonal relationship problems arise when messages on either end are misunderstood (Erozkan, 2013). When adolescents communicate face to face, it provides an adequate tone of voice, therefore the message is more clearly, in contrast, when using social media, the reader may misinterpret the message. Erozkan (2013) emphasized that without effective communication, a message can turn into error, misunderstanding, or frustration. Communication is the basis of personal relationships and effective communication happens when the message that is sent is the same message that is received (Erozkan, 2013). This can cause differences in relationships as interactions face to face are necessary. MoliĂšre illustrates the importance of reason and logic by highlighting it in some of the main characters, and exaggerating lack thereof in others. Like many other French works from the seventeenth century, he emphasizes the significance of having the ability to reason, and in doing so brings attention to the religious hypocrisy associated with this period of enlightenment. In this statement, ClĂšante is urging Damis to show some self control, and this conveys that ClĂšante s character serves as an example of maturity and good reasoning to others. Collectivism Is More Rational Than Belief I will be using rationality as the main criterion for evaluating which philosophy is preferable, so the resolution can basically be re stated as belief in collectivism is more rational than belief in individualism . My case revolves around 3 independently functioning reasons for why an affirmation of the resolution is more plausible than a negation of it. I. Collectivism increases the chances of individual success The logic underlying this is simple. A society, by definition, is a group of individuals. So when we value the interests of society , we are really just valuing the interests of the largest possible number of individuals within that society we are valuing the interests of the majority. And since an individual is statistically more likely to part of the majority than the minority (duh), collectivism ensures that any given individual is more likely to have their interests protected than not. Thus, theoretically, collectivism increases the probability of individual prosperity. However, this is not only demonstrable in theory; we can see empirical examples of this holding true in practice as well. Just take a look at nature we can easily observe a large variety of species that instinctively live in large, interactive groups in which collective welfare is valued over individual welfare wolves, elephants, lions, chimpanzees, meerkats, bison, sheep, antelopes, ants, bees, ducks, small fish, and many more fall into this category. There is a reason why such a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, funerals and mourning look different depending on their religion. The Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mourning and funerals are strange, fascinating, and somewhat gross. Roman funerals and mourning were precise, and had peculiar ways in completing them. The structure of the funeral depended on whether the deceased person was rich, famous, or poor. An Egyptian funerary ritual consists of death and the soul s journey to the afterlife. Historian Bunson once said, Eternity was the common destination of each man, women and child in Egypt , however, not an Egypt in the clouds or sky, but one that mirrored one s life on earth. The Fields of Reeds was the Egyptian afterlife which was a perfect reflection of the deceased s life on earth. These burial rites were practiced as early as 4000 BCE and help reflect this vision of eternity. Next was the mummification process, which was practiced in Egypt as early as 3500 BCE. After a person had died, the family would bring the body to embalmers. Then the embalmers would offer three choices to the bereaved. The first was (Ikram, 53) which involved the family agreeing upon a price and leaving the task to the embalmers. For ( Ikram, 53) the embalmers would have the internal organs removed, to help preserve the body. Then the organs were put in jars and left in tomb with the wrapped body. Characteristics Of Regionalism Essay 1 American Literature 2328 Fall 2017 Professor Roy Ruane Tham Paija October 2, 2017 Realism is the portrayal of the reality of everyday life and period of literature between 1850 1900. Realist fictions speculate myths, assumptions, social norms, sentimentality, collective wisdom, and prejudices. Realism stories are usually about the middle class people, and it aims to show a truthful portrayal of truth. Regionalism is a class of realist literature distinguished by closeness to the habits, language, dialects, manners, history, traditions, beliefs of a particular geographical region. Regionalism manifests the characters of both realism and romanticism. Romanticism is cultural the period from 1830 1860 in America. Humankind is naturally good. The characteristics of romanticism are passion and emotion, nature over the man, spiritual, intuition, and insight. A White Heron, by Sarah Orne Jewett, is an example of local color because of its realism. • 32. How Did The Gaelic League Affect The Irish Dance When I hear the words The Gaelic League , I automatically think of the period when the Irish language was restored in Ireland. I agree with the above statement. The Gaelic League influenced the promotion of the Irish dance tradition greatly in the 20th century as dance was very important. It was a massive part of Irish culture and it maintained Irish identity. It was founded by O Growney and Douglas Hyde in 1893. It established an agency called An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (the commission for Irish dances) in 1930. It was set up to promote and standardize Irish traditional group dancing and solo step dancing. It organised classes, festivals and competitions. An Coimisiun is still around today. In this essay, I will discuss the impact the Gaelic League had on Irish dance, how it spread from Ireland and became global and how it is still very popular today. There is very little reference of Irish dance before the 20th century. The earliest reference was a group dance with various different formations. Before the Gaelic League formed, dance classes were mainly held in rural Munster. There were held simultaneously with language classes. Irish dance became more popular in Ireland as a result of regular weekly classes, competitions and ceili dances. Dance was once forbidden in houses of rural Ireland. • 33. The Ferocactus Latispinus Assignment #2 The ferocactus latispinus, commonly known as the crow s claw cactus, is a barrel cactus originated from Mexico. The cactus is in the phylum Tracheophyta and of the family Cactaceae, with three recognized subspecies. It resides in the states of Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Jalisco, QuerĂ©taro, Zacatecas, Coahuila, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, San Luis PotosĂ, Puebla, and Mexico State. The crow s claw grows in mountain elevations of ten thousand feet, and blooms between the months of October and March. Goats are a great factor in dispersing viable seeds of the cactus. (IUCN) The body of the crow s claw cactus is barrel like, and averages approximately ten to fifteen inches in height. Fourteen to twenty three ribs and grey black areoles compose the body of the cactus, along with four large central spines. The cactus blooms yellow or pink purple flowers in late autumn or the early winter, and are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. (Faucon) A distinctive difference between crow s claw cactus and other plants is that cacti have stems which function as leaves. Because cacti do not have leaves, stems contain main photosynthetic organs, areoles, and water storage tissues. In addition, stems are coated with a cuticle, a waxy layer that prevents water loss. A possible hypothesis as to why cacti, specifically the ferocactus latispinus, have stems rather than leaves relates to the climate in which cacti grow; environments in which cacti grow in are relatively hot and dry, with little ... • 35. Montresor s Aristocracy Aristocracy in the nineteenth century was widespread and revered in many nations in Europe. It was the basis upon which many diplomatic and governing bodies ruled. Poe attempts to portray an element of social class and order into The Cask of Amontillado, though it was cleverly modulated almost to the point of barely existing as is reminiscent of his literary aesthetic. Baraban adopted this principle as the principal argument to the events occurring in the text. She explains that unlike many detective stories, the question asked is not who did it? But why do it? In her research, she discovered that this single unattainable portion of the story led to many critics justifying the actions of Montresor as a result of his insanity, which was not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first offence as portrayed in the text was when Fortunato took hold of Montresor s arm and led them towards the latter s residence. According to Baraban, He suffered when his offender virtually led him to his palazzo because etiquette does not allow minor aristocracy the liberty of touching someone of more noble origin. This supports her previously stated notion concerning the difference of class between the two characters. Montresor, having a higher aristocratic background, feels unsettled with Fortunato s display of dominance over the situation and his effort to belittle the esteem of his host. The second offence was Fortunato s statement concerning the Montresor coat of arms, I forget your arms....And the motto? Overlooking the main identifier and representative figure of a notable family is an insult on its own, relaying the demeaning notion that one s family crest is not important enough to be remembered and revered. The final offence committed by Fortunato was his implication that Montresor was not a part of the masons. Then you are not of the brotherhood....You are not of the masons. The masons were a group of nobles and social elites with high ranks in the society joined together by their common need to influence decisions and policy making in the society, performing in a sort of oligarchy. Montresor could not identify the gesture made by Fortunato because he was not as involved in the politics of his peers as he ought to be in order to maintain his social standing in the society. • 36. The Invention Of Nature By Andrea Wulf Alexander Von Humboldt was a Prussian naturalist whose work has helped shape and define our modern understanding of nature. He used enlightenment rationalism to navigate his way through life and his deep connection to his natural environment inspired a visionary movement in ushering out the monotheistic creationist worldview. Humboldt s books, diaries and letters reveal a visionary, a thinker far ahead of his time. He invented isotherms...discovered the magnetic equator...came up with the idea of vegetation and climate zones that snake across the globe...and revolutionized the way we see the natural world. (Invention of Nature, 5). Although his work was extensive, author of The Invention of Nature, Andrea Wulf suggests that his work has largely been forgotten due to his polymath approach of including art, history, poetry and politics that made him unfavorable. While Humboldt gave us our concept of nature itself, the irony is that Humboldt s views have become so self evident that we have largely forgotten the man behind them. However, although his work individual work may be overlooked, Humboldt s success in making science more accessible work and as a result, his legacy lives on as the source of inspiration for many influential thinkers throughout history. One of the most influential thinkers inspired by Humboldt, who helps us remember Humboldt s legacy is John Muir. The Effects Of Climate Change On Sea Otters How Does Climate Change Change Affect Sea Otters Sea Otters as well as many other species are in danger because of Climate Change. The sudden change in climate has disturbed the ocean s temperature which causes an insufficient amount of food for sea otters which causes the otters to be malnourished and starved. Because of the change in climate there has been a decrease in the amount of harp seals (Foley, 2013) which happens to be the killer whales main prey, because of this the killer whales have now turned to sea otters. Other likely threats to sea otters because of climate change are ocean acidification in the north Pacific, pathogen transport, marine invasive species, biotoxins withdrawn in bivalve prey, and the recurrence and intensity of storm events (Doroff and Burdin, 2015) . Sea otters have a noticeably solid influence on the wealth of kelp through the impact they have on sea urchins, said James A. Estes, a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz who was a co author on Schmitz s 2014 review and on the original sea otter study. Otters eat urchins. Urchins eat kelp. So in ocean patches where otters are bountiful, urchin populations collapse and kelp tends to thrive (Estes,Cruz and Schmitz,2014). Once classes have been chosen, it is now time to pick what level is most beneficial: regular, honors, or Advanced Placement. But be warned, Advanced Placement classes do not benefit US students because they are too rushed and the students are not prepared to take them. It is understood that many parents believe that AP classes can improve their GPA, prepare them for college, and teach them many important skills; such as leadership, determination, and critical thinking. Taking an AP class, even one, can change a student s GPA. The common misconception is that the courses being taken can improve a one s GPA. It is indeed true that doing well in an AP course can drastically improve a student s GPA. The amount of points awarded for having a high grade in the class is much higher than the amount of points for taking the same class at a regular level. An A in a regular class is worth four points, but an A in an AP class is worth 4.08 points. Those .08 points can add up quickly if a student is taking more than one AP course. In 1931, Smith Petersen used internal fixation by reducing pain and pressure to the fractured parts followed by immobilization in a spica cast application. Until 1970 another widely spread method called the multiple pin fixation technique was introduced by another orthopedist. In this method the fracture fragments would heal with the insertion of Pugh nails and Richards screws. Both of these methods include a sliding fixation process where the fractured fragments rub against each other.
