important canal within Venice, the Grand Canal ( Canalasso ), is about two miles (3 km) long and

and the gorgeous church of Santa Maria de Salute, that is over 350 feet wide. While over one
hundred seventy buildings line the Grand Canal.
The Venetian Gothic style of design began to show in buildings made on the Grand Canal within
the fifteenth century and a few of the simplest examples will still be found today, as well as the
splendid Ca d Oro (House of Gold). Throughout this era, facades enclosed plaster in bright colors,
pointed arches were standard, and columns were skinnier than before.
Buildings and houses designed within the Renaissance and Classical designs era arrived within the
sixteenth century. Several featured white facades instead of colored ones and windows touted

3. The Case V. Long Island Railroad Co
Introduction
Different case laws are referred while representing any case in the court; however seminal cases
are different as it can be regarded as the case in which revision of proposition or legal definition
occurred. It is a scenario when first revision or addition of any clause is done to any legal clause,
which is done to have a better understanding and judgement on the given scenario. In this report, the
seminal case on the causa proxima clause of negligence will be evaluated in detail.
Summary of the case
The case Palsgraf v. Long Island Railroad Co is between Palsgraf who is the plaintiff in the given
case and Long Island Railroad is the defendant in the case. In the given case there was a passenger

However, in this case dissenting opinion was of higher importance than the deciding opinion.
The case was carried on the trail court which gave decision in favour of Ms. Palsgraf, then the
case was appealed at intermediate New York which has also given decision in the favour of Ms.
Palsgraf; then it was taken the court of appeals, highest court in New York which provided the
reverse decision and dismissed. This was a classical example in the tort law.
In this case, the dissenting opinion changed the course of the case, provided new directions but
leading to the formation of new clause under tort law. In this case, question was raised against the
guard position and it was held that as guard did not know anything about the material within the
parcel, he should be held responsible for the harm caused to the plaintiff (Miller Cross, 2011).
However, with a new perspective of causa proxima the whole scenario received a new perspective.
Violation of laws
According to the code of ordinance of city of New York, no passenger is authorised to carry
explosive. This case was regarded as the law of negligence and tort; it is failure to obey the duty

4. A New World Order For The United States
A New World Order
The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst
for an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world.
Technological advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of
the world, therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy
would eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European
continent. However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to
establish itself as the leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to
attempt to create a new, less conflict ridden global order. Though World War Iset the stage for the
United States to assume a global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war,
it is not to say that the United States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first
place. I argue that the U. S. failures to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series
of actions and events beginning at the turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible
to avoid joining either war once they began.
Samuel Morse s telegraph revolutionized long distance communication, making it possible for near
instant communication, even across such a vast space like the Atlantic Ocean. Equally important as
the telegraph, advancements in the capabilities of the steam

The Boys and Girls Club had a different atmosphere, compared to the Child Study Center. When
I arrived on the first day I was intimidated by the mass number of children that were in the
building. I noticed that even though the Boys and Girls Club is a structured environment for
children, it does not do nearly as well at administering the children. While I did have a wonderful
time with the children when I was there, I felt like there was more still activity from the children
getting in trouble, than there were the children doing activities. I had a great time with the kids,
I noticed that they were very aware of what the orange volunteer tag meant. I was not assigned a
room upon entering, so I was able to roam from room to room and interact with any age range I
wanted to. For my first visit to the Boys and Girls Club, on November 6, 2017, I was swarmed
by the children aging from five to eight (kindergarten and first). The children were very
affectionate and wanted affection back. From the time I walked in the gym until I left I had five
or six children who wanted to be with me the whole time. I was in the gym for the first rotation
with the kindergarten and first graders, I noticed that they were not as willing to participate in
activities as the children at the Child Study Center were. Also, I was able to visit the media room
and observe the various reading levels the children were on. I noticed that some children were very

6. The Future Of Terrorism In The United States
Over the past Century, terrorism has advanced from random killings to enormous plans for
terrorist groups. To understand terrorism you must first define it. Terrorism as we all know it is
hard to define and understand, and has many different definitions as it is used widely. The word
terrorism stems from the word terror , which means to instill fear in. People become terrorists
when they take the actions towards instilling fear and terror upon people to prove a certain point
or agenda. Some terrorists may have the motivation of proving something political, while some
may just inflict terror to keep control over a group, people or country. Then there are terrorists who
act under the notion that they are showing support for something, as in religious regions, while
others do so to show disdain for something they don t agree with. Government, individual agencies,
private agencies, and academic experts have all developed, proposed, designed, and analyzed what
constitutes acts of terrorism. The meaning of terrorism has definitely changed and acquired new
definitions over the years. The million dollar question is how will the future of America be affected
by this act of terrorism?
Terrorism represents a continuing threat to the United States. It is the most significant threat to our
national security. Terrorist attacks have definitely left many concerns about the possibilities of
future incidents of terrorism in the United States. Since the events of September 11, 2011,

7. Descriptive Essay On Animals
On October 19th 2017, my classmates and I had the opportunity to visit the Lamar Bruni
Vergara Environmental Center. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to
have an employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region.
Throughout the tour, we observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I
decided to focus on five: The first species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx
rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order
carnivora, which consists of meat eating organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae
commonly referred to as the family of cats. Found all throughout North America, from southern
Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and
deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because they can camouflage with their
environment and have more success as hunters. Bobcats are known for their brown reddish coat
with black spots and a few stripes. Apart from their coat which allows them to camouflage,
bobcats are also efficient hunters because of their speed and intelligence. When approaching its
prey, a bobcats tends to creep on its victim and attack once it is close enough. Using its sharp teeth,
claws, and strength, this wildcat can kill prey much larger than its size. Their diet consists of
mostly rabbits, hares, and mice. Aside from those animals, bobcats sometimes prey on

8. How Does Henry Fleming Change In The Red Badge Of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage
War can force young soldiers to grow up quickly. In The Red Badge of Courage, Henry Fleming
is no exception. He enters the war with romanticized ideas of what war is like, and leaves with
those ideas very much changed.
In the beginning of the book, the author describes Henry s beliefs about the war. He thinks war is
about the glory soldiers receive or dying a hero s death. As he gets into the first battle, he is
suddenly faced with the reality. Passing be dead soldiers and watching the battle before him causes
Henry to flee. As he is running away, he happens to stumble upon a rotting corpse, this makes the
realities become even more clear. Shaken from the encounter, he moves on.
As Henry is trying to find ways to justify running from the battle, he happens to overhear a few
men talking about the very same battle. His side had won, and Henry is faced with the harsh
truth, Henry ran out of fear. Not because he though that the soldiers fighting alongside him would
lose, but because he was afraid only for his own life. As he is thinking about all of this, Henry
finally comes across other soldiers. As he inspects them more closely however, he notices that they
are all badly wounded. Still trying to escape the battle, he joins ... Show more content on

9. Essay On The Second Great Awakening
The Second Great Awakening was known as a religious revival that occurred throughout the United
States. This Awakening took place during the late eighteenth century and lasted through the middle
of the nineteenth century. However, this religious movement was greatly forced among the
Northeast and the Midwest. In addition to being a religious movement, other reforms took place
socially including women s and slaves rights, and contributions to education. Ultimately, a
distinctive feature of religious life during the Second Great Awakening was the Camp Meetings.
Camp Meetings was a technical developed by Minister James McGready. Preachers of every
denomination attended and were encouraged to preach about their experiences. George Baxter,
president of Washington College in Virginia, stated, I found Kentucky the most moral place I had

11. American Masculinity In The Searchers
The movies I will discuss and analyze in this essay are Stagecoach (1939), The Searchers (1956)
by the director John Ford, and a post modern version of a Western, Django Unchained (2012) by
Quentin Tarantino. The protagonist in both movies by John Ford are John Wayne, Jane Tompkins
says: John Wayne, the actor whose name is synonymous with Westernfilms, became the symbol of
American masculinity from World War II to Vietnam (5). What does this American masculinity
stand for? This term actually appears to be an underlying factor of Western heroism in the American
society. Heroes in Western movies have many common characteristics.
The most prominent example among them are that heroes are male, they are, though, good looking
patriots who are entitled to protect their homeland and their women . They are mostly alienated
from the society and their families since they have the rugged individualism , they have the urge to
prove that they are able to make it on their own. They are hardly ever exhausted and can endure

12. The Dangers Of Internet Monitoring And The Internet Privacy
In 2013, 71% of the US population over the age of three used the internet. Our everyday lives are
typically filled with technology and internet, but how much of it is being monitored by the
government, and how does it affect our privacy? Our entire lives are completely wrapped around
internet, all the way from posting what you ate on Instagram to paying your bills through
technological systems, such as PayPal. As the internetbecomes an almost necessary part of life,
privacybecomes even more likely to be violated and be misused by crooks or other immoral
business corporations. This topic obviously deals with legal issues and normalities, bringing up
how the issue of securityshould be addressed by the government with the least amount of privacy
invasion. There are many who say that there needs to be a lot more government monitoring and
tighter security, while others say that the government and other internet securities need to back
away completely and keep out. On the topic of there being even more government monitoring, we
need to look at how internet usage is monitored in the first place. The article by M. Kerner (8/24

need a basic understanding about internet security monitoring, and why it s needed. Internet

14. Causes Of The Salem Witch Trials

Classic Literature
2 October 2017
The Salem Witch Trials The Salem witch trials were an important event in American history.
However this affected more than Salem, the ripples from these trials swept throughout the United
States. Over two hundred witches where accused and twenty where killed. Later the judges
admitted that they had been mistaken and tried to make it right but frictions lasted for a long time
after word. (Blumberg, 2007) The main reason behind the Salem Witch Trials was fear. The
location of Salem was a town that was on the edge of the settled colonies. Therefor the settlers of
this area had many reasons to fear death, by starvation, sickness, or being killed and scalped by
the Native American that lived in the forest. The people that lived in constant fear took it out on
the weaker people. These weaker people where; the old, the poor, and women. When the
movement started this fear compelled the people to take action. (Salem Witch Trials, 2011)
These trials started in Salem when some young girls had fits. The doctor said it was because of
witches and the town blamed several women. Titub, one of the accused, was a slave form the
Caribbean. Sarah Good, another, was a homeless beggar. Sarah Osborne, an elderly impoverished
woman, was the third accused. These three where imprisoned and where tried. Two of them,
Osborne and Good, refused to confess, but finally Titub confessed to associating to with the devil.

using one s fingers in order to do basic forms of arithmetic. After some time Finger reckoning

arithmetic more efficiently than Finger reckoning. This numeric system was easier for calculations,

17. A Brief Note On The Global Car Rental Industry Essay
Did you know the global car rental industry is expected to reach an estimated value of $81.2
billion by 2019? The transportation sector is one of the main operating sectors of the tourism
industry. Looking further into the transportation sector, since the beginning people have been
traveling by various modes, rather it was by feet, by aircraft or some form of vehicle. Tourismand
transportation are very inextricably linked, that s why it s hard to overstate the importance of
transportation. As tourism increases there will be more demands that will be placed on
transportation. In research it finds that air travels dominates long distance and middle distance
tourism but the private automobiledominates for shorter trips and by far the most popular means of
travel for most domestic journeys. The automobile is very much so important in regional and
international tourism, because when you think about transportation it simple means to carry
passengers from point A to point B, when it s considering from a tourism point of view, it simply
refers to carrying tourists from their residents to the place where the touristic products are
introduced. With travel and tourism experience of tourists no matter where they are start and end

transportation. If we can t move people from place to place weather by air, sea, or land then there is

In modern times, youth and beauty is an image seen everywhere. For example, a Versace
billboard, magazine ad, TV commercial, all of which displays images of beautiful people. But
what happens when this beauty fades? Shakespeare in his 12th sonnet talks about his experience
and fading beauty. The purpose of this poem is to encourage a young man to not lose his beauty to
the ravages of time. In order to do this, one must reproduce so beauty will live.
In the first quatrain, Shakespeare begins his meditation on the process of decay. He begins the poem
with quot;I quot;, which signals that Shakespeare will later give his own experience and account.
The first object presented in this sonnet is a clock, which is to set the mood of the poem. ... Show

The idea Shakespeare tries to convey is that death takes everything. The violet was once
beautiful and strong but as time passes, the violet will age and become frail. Shakespeare
proceeds to speak of black sable curls hiding behind white. I have two observations about this
line; the first being that as a man ages he will notice more white hairs on his head. The man will
lose the vibrant black curls he once had as a young man. Second, Shakespeare may be implying to
the young man that his hair too will become gray.
Proceeding on to quatrain two, the poet continues to meditate by using images of decay; lofty
trees, barren of leaves, white and bristly beard. Just as time progresses, day changes to night, and
the young become old, summer becomes winter. In the warm weather, the trees were leafy and
bountiful. They served as a canopy that sheltered herd of animals from the blazing sun (L.6). In
winter, however, the lofty trees are now barren and stripped of their leaves. The outward
appearance of the tree is pathetic and unsightly. The herd of animals will no longer seek shelter
under the trees because they look lifeless. Shakespeare further elaborates the imagery of plant life
decaying. Summer flowers are beautiful and they exemplify life. However, quite the contrary,
Shakespeare states that these flowers are gathered together to be used as funeral arrangements and
carried on the coffin over the white and bristly

19. Film Reflection On The Film Shottas
Introduction
For this assignment, I decided to reflect on the film Shottas . The film begins in the streets of
Kingston, Jamaica home of Biggs and Wayne, the two main characters. They lived within a very
dangerous and violent town, which drove them into their own violent lifestyle. As young men, how
the movie starts off, they rob the local drug dealers of a gun for a premeditated robbery. The money
allowed for them to purchase visas to come to Miami, Florida. While in the United States, as
adults, the two continue their criminal activities leading them to be deported back to their home in
Jamaica. Mad Max and Wayne, who was deported years before Biggs made his return, had already
formed a striving extortion business. Wayne made it mandatory for all businesses in the Kingston
area to pay money to operate there, or they will be killed. The Jamaica Police did not like Wayne
or his Shoota crew, after the gruesome public murder the police then killed Wayne s brother.
Later, the Congressmen offered to renew Wayne, Biggs, and Mad Max s visa to get them out of
the country. Happily back in Miami, the three men aim to becoming the top drug dealers of the
city, by extorting the new top drug dealer, Teddy. As they raise to power in Miami, they commit
several forms of extortion, murder, and assaults. The film ends in extreme violence leading to the
murders of Wayne and Mad Max, in a shootout with Teddy s crew. Biggs then murders Teddy and
his girlfriend, while getting away with all his money and escapes.
Scanning
This movie has a lot to do with organized crime and how organizations typically build their way up
to it. In the beginning, Biggs and Wayne were just acting as partners in low leveled criminal
activities, however, with age came more discipline and a striving criminal organization named
Shottas . The film focuses on different organized crimes, yet for this paper the focus will be on
extortion. Extortion is, the act of obtaining property of another through threats of future harm. It
seems to be a major issue within the movie, because it is the way the Shottas came to power in the
underworld.

21. Benefits Of Performance Related Pay
Introduction
It can be said that performance related pay has been motivating employees who works in
companies/organisations from small to big, hence the distribution of bonuses definitely need to be
taken into account. A bonus is an extra compensation given to an employee above his/her normal
wage. A bonus also could be used as a reward for accomplishing specific goals set by the company,
or for devotion to the company. However Performance related pay methods has broaden up into
different topics, Individual performance pay and group performance pay being the most common
methods. This essay will therefore discuss not only just identifying both distribution methods, but
its relationship between one and another. Also, preferred ideals which... Show more content on

In conclusion, prosocial bonuses can have a causal impact on employee satisfaction and
performance, and a greater organizational impact which benefits all (Anik et al 2013).
For and against distribution of bonuses based on self performance basis
Advantages and disadvantages of distributing bonuses to individuals are broad, but just basing on
statistics won t reveal the sustainability of performances from employees in the long run. Firstly,
organisations such as the food industry tend to reward their individuals PRP, Performance related
Pay, especially to roles such as sales and marketing (Wilkinson 2015). By giving bonuses for
individuals unlocks a counterproductive spectrum inside the employee, hence making the
workplace to a much more competitive environment. However after further research done by
Journal of Business Research , it concludes with an opposite result. Distributing bonuses in Groups
has a higher chance to product more cooperative, team work mindset imbedded into their
employees compared to individual performances (Wilkinson 2015). Should every organisation
change the way of distributing bonuses? No, Performance related pay plans are essentially
ubiquitous, but they come with a price. Organisations (e.g. Motorola) ended up spending millions
of dollars in PRP plans, and the outcome viewed like investment is increasing. With the

Labour Party in Britain in the Years 1924 31
Historians have debated just how competent the two Labour administrations were between 1924
and 1931. Governments are normally only considered competent if they have managed the
economy efficiently, prevented widespread corruption and maintained law and order. Labour came
to power at the end of 1923, a time when the Conservatives and other right wing groups were
spreading vicious rumours about Socialism. MacDonald was determined to disprove these fears,
particularly Churchill s jibe that a Labour Party would not be fit to govern . Since the Prime
Minister is an integral part of a government, it will also be important to look at the competency of ...

Other historians have stressed Labour s poor industrial relations during their first term in office,
claiming that this indicates a degree of governmental incompetence. MacDonald was determined
that the Labour Party would be representative of the nation as a whole, and not merely a political
wing of the TUC. Therefore, MacDonald did not want to be seen as giving in to strikers or other
industrial activists. In February 1924 there was a national dock strike for higher wages which ended
in success for the workers, but MacDonald had been planning to use troops to unload ships had it
continued. The following month he proclaimed a state of emergency during a London tram and bus
strike. Some historians have argued that the fact that MacDonald was determined to stand up
against the TUC and strikers suggests that his party was competent at running the country, since it
was not simply pandering to the industrial movement. But others claim that MacDonald was unable
to deal with the strikes sufficiently, making his government look weak and incompetent.
Some historians have argued that the cabinet of the first Labour government was chosen poorly,
with many of the ministers knowing little or nothing about their departments. For example, J.H
Thomas, the former railwaymen s leader, became Colonial Secretary despite knowing

25. The Chaco And Its Effects On Indigenous Peoples
Much of the Chaco is still inhabited by indigenous people who often do not have rights to the
territory they are on. Development brought on by actions from organizations like the IIRSA can be
devastating to the indigenous people. Natural resource companies can displace communities. They
can also harm the indigenous people by extracting resources which the indigenous rely on for their
way of life. The IIRSA is attempting to boost economic development by promoting resource
extraction and agricultureproduction, but in doing so they are harming many communities that need
the Chaco s resources to survive. According to a USAID Issue Brief about Tenure and Indigenous
Peoplesnew infrastructure to improve access to markets, facilitate trade, and promote economic
growth leads to an increase in demand for land. This new infrastructure makes it easier for settlers,
merchants, and illegal loggers to clear forests and settle in indigenous territories. The USAID brief

26. Slaves Reaction To The Haitian Revolution
The Haitian Revolution is known to be one of the main focal points in the history of slave. It is
known for being the biggest and triumphant slave revolution in the Western Hemisphere. The
Haitian Revolution was the only revolt that led to the creation of a state free from slavery. Past the
struggling, the people of Haitieventually, after this whole situation, won their independence from
the mother country France. This event in American history is crucial to teaching about the lives of
slaves and the struggle of slavery.
In around 1791, slaves started to defy authority and revolt against the government. These revolts did
not stop until early 1804. The Haitian Revolution, nevertheless, was significantly more mind
boggling, comprising of a few transformations going on at the same time. Slaves reaction to the
French Revolution in a way that sort of jump started the revolution and got it going.
Saint Dominigue, which is what Haiti is now known, blossomed with wealth during the 18th
century. It simply thrived off of crops such as indigo, sugar, coffee and cotton. The French
Revolution played a big part in the slaves just having enough of their rulers. However, by the
time the French Revolution started settling down in 1789, there were five particular social
classes of people, if you will. It started off with the plantation owners, also known as the white
growers, who obviously owned the slaves and the land. The other group was known as petit
blancs. They had tasks such as being a craftsman, or as they called it an artisan, a business
specialist, and some even became teachers. The petit blancs were free slaves, but some of them
eventually had slaves further down their life. Those groups combined equaled to 40,000 people. A
considerable lot of the whites on Saint Dominigue started to help a freedom development that
started when France forced tariffs on the things brought into the state. The grower did not as France
s decision to prohibit trade with another country. In spite of their calls for freedom, both the grower
and petit blancs stayed focused on the establishment of servitude.

Forty years ago, the Islamic banking industry was created, on a modest scale, to fill a gap in a
banking system that was not listening to the fervent Muslim believers. Morocco has been
following the same development in offering Islamic finance services to its citizens through
Islamic windows in conventional banks. In parallel to this development of the Islamic financial
industry in Morocco, it seems very crucial to evaluate critically based on Maliki law school the
previous experience of Islamic windows in conventional banks. Taking into considerations, the
differences between schools in the interpretation and implementation of Islamic law in economy
life, the objective of this paper was to critically analysis the practice of Islamic banks in Morocco.
This paper aimed at analyzing the characteristics of different schools of Islamic law and how this
would affect Islamic banking. The final aim of this paper was to highlight the importance of
jurisprudence/ new interpretations in developing Islamic banking. Qualitative methodology based
on semi directive interviewees was the main approach for this paper. Three levels of gaps have
been found out. These gaps are related respectively to Murabaha, Musharaka and Ijara. Three
recommendations have been advised to fill the gaps: Absolute isolation of Fund, Sharia auditing

28. Summary Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress
In the novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, by Dai Sijie, it can be observed that
through another character s perspective as well as their own, Luo and the Seamstress
relationship is less than ideal and what once may have been a whimsical experience would soon
fall from its glorious state. A big indicator of the relationship issues is the Old Miller s point of
view, him being unbiased and just an observer. His use of imagery may symbolize more than
what initially meets the eye, so to speak. The Old Miller relates the Seamstress to a swallow, her
arms as wings and he shows her flying through the air with the other birds, this could show many
different things but to tie all this together it would be best to say that this shows that the Old
Miller sees the Seamstress as a free living and elegant being. He shows her flying above her
surroundings and that seemingly depicts her as a celestial being, above(or better than) this
world in which this takes place. This is contradictory to how the Old Miller views Luo. The
Miller briefly goes over Luo while calling part of him shrunken, and depicting him falling asleep.
At first glance the shrunken comment was very accurate but it may also be to show how much
of opposites Luo and the Seamstress are, what with the Seamstress flying with the birds and Luo
laying on the shore, shrunken. The Old Miller also tells how the Seamstress falls into the water,
her wings, extended, did not fold until she touched the surface of the water and plummeted into
the depths , this not only shows that she can jump into a pool of water but also may give an
unintended representation of the relationship between Luo and the Seamstress. Although this
would be beyond the Miller s knowledge it is possible that Sijie intended this, the Seamstress
being the bird, being swallowed by the water, surrounded in it s embrace. Moreover Luo is
controlling the Seamstress in ways that are unconventional to a good relationship, he trains her to
be civilized and won t let her be herself, sounds like he s enveloping her into his world, much like
the water envelops the Seamstress into itself and pulls her to the depths. The Miller s overseeing
eye may provide an

Classic Car

James Bond s 1964 Aston Martin DB5. It is the classic car best known for representation in
movies and is recognizable across the world of vehicle enthusiasts. It has left its mark on history.
The same can be said for the Mercedes 1957 300SL Gullwing, a production car that was one of the
fastest and most eye catching vehicles of its time. Indeed, these types of classic cars are from a
bygone era.
Today, they are auctioned off for millions of dollars and stand as a heritage of a different period.
However, they are not alone in this mission. There are hundreds if not thousands of cars that can
be considered classic, with many being far less cumbersome on a bank account to own. In fact,
ones like Austin s 1961 Mini Cooper S, for instance, are miniaturized versions of some of their
bigger brothers. The Mini has served as an ever growing symbol of the classic car era, with over
5,000,000 international sales of its iterated versions.
Whether you are interested in the loud V12s and beautiful aesthetics, or the more compact and
purposeful classic cars, the bottom line is that by investing in a classic car, you are investing in a
slice of history and in a slice of art. While today there has become a culture of upgrading and
tuning more widely available and cheap production cars, there is still that pure hearted, nostalgic
interest in the art of old. Yet, the goal amongst these two different groups is the same: they are there

30. The Death Of Marat By Jacques Louis David
An outstanding figure in neoclassical art, Jacques Louis David released his painting titled The
Death of Marat in 1793 after the murder of Jean Paul Marat. The revolutionary painting shows
Marat s deceased body soaking in a bloody bath, with a quell in hand. Many thoughtfully placed
details are included in the piece that add to the implication that one should focus on the sacrifices,
and involvement Marat made during the French Revolution. With the use of symbolism, David
coax s the audience into viewing Marat as the political martyr of the revolution. One of the more
palpable contributions to the glorification of Marat is the position in which his body is painted.
Marat was involved in many beheadings of the revolution and would have voted in favor of
many more. His most successful occupations included being a journalist and politician involved
with the radical Jacobins. He would frequently post his political views in his own self published
newspaper. As he worked his way up the political ladder many began to fear and despise him. In
the end, his success would be his downfall. This was a man with obvious influence over others,
who would use those willing to follow. Feeling fear for her home, young noble Charlotte Corday
decided to take matters into her own hands, and quickly moved into action. She deceived Marat
with a false list of anti revolutionaries, who in return, promised to have each beheaded the next day.

32. ##ity And Intimacy In Ernest Hemingway s In Our Time
Ernest Hemingway grasps the intimacy and authenticity of human relationships, in his book, In Our
Time. The book consists of short stories following the lives of different individuals. Few of the
short stories include The End of Something, Mr. and Mrs. Elliot, Cat in the Rain, and The Doctor
and The Doctors Wife. Through these short stories, relationships between male and female
characters, lack meaningful intimacy. There is a disconnect amongst these couples. Hemingway
redefines intimacy and what it means. Intimacy goes beyond sex; it is a bond between individuals.
He is depicting two forms of intimacy through his characters. One form of intimacy is emotional
intimacy, which is portrayed in the male characters. The other form would be sexual intimacy.
Thus, Hemingway is changing our perception of intimacy; it is not only found in male and female
relationships, but also in friendships. The bond between the male characters is more meaningful
and stronger than the female and male relationships.
Furthermore, Hemingway explores the absence of emotional intimacy in the male and female
relationships. In The Doctor and The Doctor s Wife, the couple that is portrayed are the doctor
and his wife. The theme of isolation is prevalent in this story. For example, Aren t you going back
to work, dear? asked the doctor s wife from the room where she was lying with the blinds drawn
(Hemingway 25). From this example, it is clear that the wife is in her own room. Given another

New Imperialism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries compared to Old Imperialism of the 16th
and 17th centuries. Imperialism is the spread of control over territories across the globe. The
Industrial Revolution and interests in nationalism created a new period of imperialism around 1750.
Old imperialism lasted from 1450 1750, but imperialism alone remained until 1914.Old imperialism
and new imperialism shared the same basic concept of controlling and utilizing foreign countries.
Old imperialism focused mainly on systems of trade while new imperialism took bolder steps to

This led to a focus on a trading system because Europeans didn t want to take on territorial
responsibilities. During the Old imperialism era, Europeans set up trading posts, ports, and docks.
These trading centers benefited the places the mother country was supplying too. They had
objectives to protect their trading centers in native places and none to obtain territories in them.
Europe s trade within and between native lands led to cultural diversity which may have caused a
small breach in unity. However, the old Imperialism era ended due to high costs in taking over
territories and too much time to supply the mother country. There was no time to build up a
superior, organized, skilled army for anyone. Also, due to the Industrial Revolution there was now a
faster more efficient way to create and manufacture products. Throughout Western Europe, political
authority was completely controlled by central governments, while leaders, such as Isabela I, were
busy with the concept of how to increase the power of the state. National wealth was widely
viewed as the groundwork of national power, governmental controls soon dominated nearly all of
the state s domestic economy.
The start of Old Imperialism was based on the military and naval power and the underlining motive
was essentially capitalistic. It began with sea explorations of the Spanish and Portuguese in the

I can consume 3373 Calories per day because of my above average height, my weight, my young

of what I eat. One of my favorite restaurants is the Olive Garden, thus I am going to compare the
caloric intake of a typical meal at the Olive Garden with my estimated caloric needs. A meal that
I typically have is the chicken parmigiana, the chicken and gnocchi soup, and a raspberry

Calories, and a raspberry lemonade has 170 Calories; with a total of 1,470 Calories for the entire
meal. This means that I would have 1,903 Calories leftover for my day. This is a lot of Calories
leftover, but at the same time its not if the Calories I consumed were empty Calories, or if I ate

the nutrients that I need. Undoubtedly Calories from restaurants add more to the empty Calories of
my diet without supplying me with needed nutrients, than if I would just eat at home. The meal

Though Pollan expresses his opinions on modern day methods of food production and
categorization of these means of production, he experiences the dilemma that is commonly faced
by many individuals in this day and age. Therefore, he undergoes the endeavor to find the solution
to this national dilemma.
He poses the question: what should we have for dinner? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many consumers are not able to see where their food comes from, similarly to how the corn no
longer has the information of how it was produced. The change in food production also is
evident in the decline in personal nature via packaging. Two centuries ago, people were able to
purchase their corn from the farm where the corn had been grown and most likely where they had
developed a more personal linkage with the farmer on a local level. Now, the connection between
the source of consumer s food production and the consumer itself are separated by thousands of
miles, lacking communication, acknowledgement, and awareness of the production process. Pollan
implements something as simple as a produce sack to showcase the reality that modern day
consumers are denied their right to know where and how their food was developed, violating one
foundation of food justice: the right to know what one is eating.
A possible explanation for why food production has changed so much can be that its consumers
have also evolved as a society the commercialization of agriculture has culminated this alteration
within the industry. The consumer s desire to connect back with their ancestors can be easily
ascertained by going to healthier markets like Wholefoods, among others. Pollan compares
Wholefoods to a good quality bookstore, filled with extensive nutritional vocabulary on their
packaging. However, much of it is not

40. The Beliefs of German Nationalists
German nationalism was not greatly different from the nationalism of the other European
countries, much until the late 1870 s to early 1880 s. At this point in time, nationalists of the era
had come to the belief that they had made an illustrious discovery. They discovered that they had
dominion over all of Europe, socially and physically. From this discovery, they concluded that
they were powerful enough to overtake and successfully conquer Europe, or if not the entire
Western World. Their beliefs are stated as followed: The Germans, save for the Russians, are the
most numerous, in all of Europe. The Reich (German Kingdom) has more people in its
boundaries, of any European country, save for the same exception. Outside of the Reich, are
millions of people who share similar descent and beliefs, and so, by right, should join the Reich.
Russia, is not really a country, but more so an amalgamate of people of different religious orders,
descents, and beliefs. In fact, if one were to dissect the ethnicities of those of Russia, you would
have many people who themselves share German descent, and only a few Great Russians . From
this, one can say that Germanyis the most industrious and most quickly growing in all of Europe.
Germany greatly benefits from its location, in the fore front of central Europe. It holds control of
all European countries, strategically, and has access to parts of Africa, and Asia, not commonly
enjoyed by other countries. Germans are possess a youth and

41. Osmosis Potato Lab Report
Effects of Osmosis on Potatoes Lab Report
Tristan Dunlop Period 3 12/4/14
Introduction:
Within every cell, a movement of a solvent occurs through a semipermeable membrane to equalize
the concentration of solute on both sides of the membrane. The diffusion of water across the cell s
membrane down to its concentration gradient is called osmosis. In this case, the concentration
gradient is the difference of density between one side of the cell membrane to the other. Since the
cell s membrane is permeable, particles can flow freely in and out of the cell, but the net flow will
be strong in the direction of lower concentration until the system has reached a stage of equilibrium,
the point at which both sides of the membrane are equal. In the ... Show more content on

There should be no potato skin on each cube you cut out. You do not have to cut each cube to be
exactly 1 cm2, but make sure they are very close to that measurement.
Now label the cups with the sharpie and write down your group s name and the concentration of
solutions: 40%, 20%, 10%, 5%, 0%.
Measure the correct amounts of sugar and water into each of the labeled cups. One at a time,
place a cup on the scale and add the sugar directly, but before you do so, hit the button on or zero
to restart the scale. This way, the scale will only measure the amount of sugar that is poured into
the cup and not the cup itself. The chart shown below will tell you how much sugar to weigh in
each cup. Once you have finished, add 50 mL of water to each cup using the graduated cylinder.
Then stir your cups with the spoon until the sugar has dissolved in each solution.

42. The Argument For The Constitution Of The United States Essay
The Argument for the Constitution of the United States of America On July 3rd, 1776, the Second
Continental Congress unanimously declared the independence of the thirteen United States of
America from Great Britain. Determined to unify the thirteen colonies, the Continental Congress
adopted the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, the first constitution of the United States
, on November 15, 1777. However, ratification of the Articles of Confederation by all thirteen states
did not occur until March 1, 1781. Although the articles did not prevent the United States from
winning independence, the innate flaws of the articles became apparent in the years following the
revolution. The problems of the weak, purely legislative national government became too prevalent
for agents of the revolution, such as James Madison and George Washington. Madison and
Washington were strong supporters of a federal, or national, constitution, and on June 21, 1788,
congress ratified the Constitution of the United States. And in doing so, violated the Revolutionary
Ideology and the will of the American people.
The Revolutionary War effectively ended on October 17th, 1781. Having successfully won
independence, that task shifted to maintaining independence. The newly independent United States,
faced an array of issues, and proved to be anything but united under the existing Articles of
Confederation. In hindsight, analyzing the arguments against the articles, as well as the

43. The Nature And The Realization Of Conversion Essay
These two major pieces, the nature and the realization of conversion are reflected in what we
believe, our theology. So Luther further reminds us Conversion changes man so that he can accept
grace. (Tappert, 1959:537.83) But not just any old kind of grace, but the grace of God! Luther put
forth a very Lutheran theological understanding of conversion, in which we are saved by grace
through faith, which is a gift to us (humankind) from God. But God does all the acting; we are just
merely beneficiaries of God s grace and mercy.
For the conversion of our corrupt will, which is nothing else than a resuscitation of it from
spiritual death, is only and solely the work of God (just as also the resuscitation in the
resurrection of the body must be ascribed to God alone), as has been fully set forth above and
proved by manifest testimonies of Holy Scripture. (Tappert, 1959:537:87)
Tappert goes on to confirm,
how God in conversion changes stubborn and unwilling into willing men through the drawing of
the Holy Ghost, and that after such conversion, in the daily exercise of repentance, the regenerate
will of man is not idle, but also cooperates in all the works of the Holy Ghost, which He does
through us, has already been sufficiently explained above. Tappert, 1959:537.88)
So also
Again, when Luther says that man behaves in a purely passive way in his conversation (that is, that
man does not do anything toward it and that man only suffers that which God, works in

In Flanders FieldsIn Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,That
mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns

loved, and now we lieIn Flanders fields.Take up our quarrel with the foe:To you from failing

After the Second Battle of Ypresthere was no longer any doubt of the courage and strength of the
Canadian troops. On May 2nd, McCrae #8217;s close friend and one time student, Lieutenant
Alexis H. Helmer was killed by a German shell. McCrae performed the burial himself in the
absence of a chaplain service that night to avoid any enemy detention. The next day during a
lull in the fighting, McCrae took a break and stared at the cemetery where his friend was buried
the day before. He noticed that each day the rows of white crosses grew longer and the field of
Flanders #8217; was carpeted with blood red poppies. John McCrae then spent twenty minutes
scribbling fifteen lines of verse on a scrap piece of paper. When he was done he took the piece of
paper and gave it to Cyril Allinson, a twenty two year old sergeant major who was delivering
mail that day. Allinson describes the seen: #8220;The poem was exactly an exact description of
the scene in front of us both. He used the word blow in that line because the poppies actually
were being blown that morning by a gentle east wind. It never occurred to me at that time that it
would ever be published. It seemed to me just an exact description of the scene. #8221; General
Morrison wrote, #8220; #8230;this poem was literally born of fire and blood during the hottest
phases of the 2nd Battle of Ypres. #8221; The poem was eventually sent to England. The

45. The Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Disintegration of the...
Communism is defined as a political and economical doctrine, the aim which is to abolish private
ownership of property and for profit enterprise and to replace these with public ownership and
control of industry, agriculture, and resources ( Communism ). The product of this government is
supposed to be a society free of class ranking based on wealth, property, and political power. The
Soviet Unionwas the first country to test these governmental strategies and it did not take long for
the regime to collapse. The inevitable collapse of communism led to the fall of the Berlin Wall; this
started the domino effect of freedom that ultimately led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
On Sunday, August 13th, in 1962 the Eastern German government... Show more content on

During the Soviet Union regime the health care system became socialized and citizens were
allowed to have full health care without charge. The Soviet Union was also the first country to
have an equal number of hospital beds to citizens (Hoeppler). Even though they had great access
to heath care the hospitals lacked the essentials needed for the hospitals to operate up to standards.
In 1990, 24 percent of hospitals did not have adequate pluming, 19 percent lacked central heat, 45
percent lacked bathrooms or showers, 49 percent had no hot water, and 15 present operated without
any water at all (Hoeppler). These conditions were unacceptable according to Boris Yeltsin.
In June of 1991, Yeltsin won the presidential election in Russia. He became the first Russian
leader to stand in a legitimate election. Yeltsin inspired mass demonstrations against the 1991
attempt to overthrow Gorbachev s, the president before him, government ( The Fall of the Soviet
Union ). This brought him popularity. Yeltsin decided to capitalize on his popularity by going
forward with radical reform policies. After doing things like banning the CPSU, confiscating CPSU
s assets, and distributing the state s assets to the populace. So, it did not take Yeltsin much time at
all to start to dismantle the Soviet Union ( The Fall of the Soviet Union ).
The fall of the Soviet Union became the most dramatic event of the twentieth century. With the
Soviet Union being the world s first communistic state it

46. Spirits In The Christmas Carol
In the Christmas Carol there are a lot of differences here are some. In the drama all the spirits of
Christmas are women and in the book you don t know the genders other than the male christmas
present. It s not a big deal but the Cratchits are different races in the drama they are African
American and in the book they re Caucasian. In the book the first sign of Seeing spirits is Jacob
Marley s face on the door and in the drama you don t get to see that so you miss a detail of
entertainment. These are just some of the differences of the ChristmasCarol and all I m going to say.
Although there are differences there still has to be similarities here are some. You have to have all
the characters the same; you have to have all the spirits and the
