Design Theory And The General Systems Theory
Introduction
The uses of conceptual models are essential to help guide the nursing process. There are many
different types of conceptual models and among these models there is the Roy Adaption model that
was created by Sister Callista Roy. According to McEwen, like many models/theories in this unit, it is
a deductive theory based on nursing practice (p. 177, 2014). Throughout this paper, we will be
explaining, discussing and analyzing this specific model by the use of a clinical situation.
Presentation of the conceptual model The Roy adaption model was influenced by Helson s Adaption
Theory and the General Systems Theory, which was developed by Ludwig von Bertalanffy in 1968
(Pepin, Kerouac Ducharme, 2010). Each and every theory has a basic philosophy as to where it stems
from and the Roy model stems from the concepts of humanism and veritivity. The principle of
humanism describes that every individual s human experiences affects their knowledge and values in
the world. The principal of veritivity was created by Roy and is defined as, a principal of human
nature that affirms a common purposefulness of human existence (Roy Andrews, 2008, p. 27).
Roy has four basic components of adaption. The first component is physiological and as for the other
three, they are considered psychosocial. Each component can be evaluated as being either adaptive,
which is considered positive, or ineffective, which is considered negative (Roy Andrews, 2008). To
decide whether a

Early Years Education Essay
Early Years Education is the provision of an education environment for children between the ages of 0
and 5. Children between the ages of 4 and 5 will then start school in the reception class. The
environments that education can be provided in include the following:
Nursery Schools: Nurseries schools provide early learning for children between the ages of 3 and five.
The nursery may be linked to/ adjoining a school. Some nurseries are also extending their provision to
include 2 year olds.
Play groups and pre schools: Often run voluntarily, they usually take children between 3 and 5
although may have a provision for 2 year olds.
Day Nursery: A day nursery is a childcare centre that caters mainly for working parents (whether full
time or part time) and this means that they are usually open for extended ... Show more content on

They can look after no more than three children under the age of 5. They can look after up to six
children under the age of 8.
Nannies: Nannies (or other home based carers) are childcare providers who work in the childñ€TMs
own home, able to look after children of any age.
Although not compulsory, free early years education is available to all 3 and 4 year olds throughout
the UK if their parents wish for them to attend. It is also being extended to some two year olds.
This free education covers nurseries and childminders. All 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours of
free Early Years Education per week, for up to 38 weeks of the year. In nurseries this is usually taken
as 3 hours per day (either a morning place or an afternoon place attending 5 days a week).
Childminders will be flexible to the needs of the parents and provision may depend on their
availability. All free early education must be within an approved setting for it to be provided free of
charge. There is now also a provision of free education including nursery and childminders

Self Perceived Prototypicality In Self-Verification Of...
The Role of Self Perceived Prototypicality in Self Verification of Group Members In many of previous
theories and research, the concept of prototypicality has been highly relevant in examining the nature
of group membership and inter and intra group behaviours (Kleef et al., 2007; Steinel et al., 2010;
Ellemers Jetten, 2013). Based on self categorisation theory, prototypicality is defined as the position
within the group according to the degree to which one represents the group s most typical
characteristics (Oakes, 1996; GĂłmez, Jetten Swann, 2014). An individual is considered to be a core
member when they possess most of the defining features of the group, and a peripheral group member
when they display only some of the features. Numerous

Chemical Castration for Repeat Sex Offenders Essay
Chemical Castration for Repeat Sex Offenders
Child molestation and sexual assault is an ever growing problem in the United States today, but an
even bigger problem is that these pedophiles are being released after only serving as little as one
quarter of their sentence. In California alone (at the time the bill was first passed), there was an
estimated 680 individuals on parole for molestation and other sexual assaults including sodomy by
force with a victim under the age of thirteen as well as child molestation with foreign objects.
The practice of castrating violent criminals can be traced back to Germany in the 1930s, and
throughout Europe. It has shown to be one of the most effective deterrents for sexual ... Show more

Chemical castration is a reversible treatment for those with urges to commit sex crimes, as well as
those who have had a history of convicted sex crimes. This drug treatment helps to lower sex drives
and decrease aggressive and violent tendencies. There are side effects to this drug just as there are for
every other medicine on the market. Although it was not created for men, they suffer no extra side
effects than the women. Chemical castration is an exceptional alternative to prison time or it works as
a stepping block for integration back into society. It is a more cost effective alternative as well as
being more efficient in correcting the problem as opposed to locking it up. With strict guidelines and
continual use it can be the most effective course of action for sexual offenders today.
Monitored chemical castration should be the only alternative to full sentence prison time for repeat sex
offenders, and child molesters, unless he voluntarily requests surgical castration. Sometimes the
gangrenous toe has to be sacrificed for the well being of the rest of the body UNKOWN.
Chemical castration in short, is the suppression of sex drive through injections of anti androgen drugs,
one commonly known as Depo Provera. Once every three months, the offender is injected
intramuscularly with a concentrated version of Depo Provera, which inhibits

was dominated by Jewish artists and writers who, knowing their brethren in Europe were being
targeted by the Nazis, felt helpless. They wanted America to join the Allied Forces and go to war, but
couldn t do much about the US policy of non interference at the time. Hence, Captain America came
into existence. Steven had been born on July 4, 1922 in the lower east side of Manhattan to poor Irish
immigrant parents. He was an orphan by the time he was in his teens and, disturbed by the rise of the
Nazi party, desperate to fight against them. His repeated attempts to enlist in the army, however, were
rejected because he couldn t pass the physical. Steve s persistence, however, paid off when he was
selected to be a test subject for a super soldier project where a special serum created by a Professor
Reinstein would instantly and permanently turn him into a stronger and faster soldier codenamed
Captain America. Every superhero needs an evil to fight, and for Joe Simon, that evil was Adolf Hitler.
And in the very first issue of Captain America dated March 1941 9 months before America joined
WWII we see Steve punching the Nazi leader. This verse shows the propaganda angle in the Captain

Sanchi Team Reflection
ANSWER 3.
PART A)
Sanjay likes to work as a team, he loves teamwork. He thrives in cooperative, integrative, and friendly
work environments. He relies on the team members to help him solve problems, answer questions, and
increase his work efficiency. He shares struggles and successes with the peers and celebrates group
achievements.
Working as a team pays off handsomely for him. As they say, Two heads are better than one. Each
person has a limited set of skills and a finite knowledge base. A group need others help (and unique
perspectives) to solve difficult problems and see beyond the blind spots. Team members benefit
greatly from sharing challenges and ideas.

Young workers may have different work environment values than more established workers. The
distinction in values isn t really the reason for employee dissonance ,but the inability to acknowledge
the difference is. At the point when representatives neglect to acknowledge the differences, co workers
may offend each other s characters. At the point when insults happen, the contention escalates until the
point that the correct arrangement is offered and acknowledged.
Competition
Unhealthy work environment and rivalry is a reason for worker strife. Rivalry that isn t appropriately
overseen can bring about representatives disrupting or offending each other, which makes an
antagonistic workplace. Undesirable work environment rivalry debilitates teamwork and promotes
working independently.
Therefore, its natural to have such differences and conflicts of opinion at a work place but its all about
bridging the generational gap and finding a common interest and working things out.
PART B)
Our generation is the Generation Y, the cohort born between 1996 and 2010, is ready for the spotlight.
Finally escaping the shadows of the generations before them, many Gen Y are now entering the
workforce. As a result, their spending power, currently valued at $44 billion, is growing every day.
Generation Y aren t merely Millennials on steroids. It s a distinct generation with attitudes, values and
a lifestyle that often deviate from the generation just before them.

The Ocean s Unique Creatures
The Ocean s Unique Creatures
The ocean is full of many unique creatures. From the water s surface to the sea floor, there is a
plethora of organisms we have yet to even discovered; however, even the organisms we do have data
on are completely different from anything that we have previously seen on land. This gives cause to
think they must have unique habits and patterns completely separate from all that we must know. (
Kelp 1)
Starting the closest to the surface, giant kelp is a photosynthetic organism in the photic zone. Giant
kelp consists of many blade like leaves that comprise the whole of its body (Cabrillo). Being a

The kelp must have a strong place to anchor itself so it does not get ripped out. Giant Kelp can
reproduce in two ways, sexually and asexually. It is capable of producing sperm and egg cells as well
as being able to grow off of broken fragments (Harvey). Some interesting facts about kelp is that it can
grow up to two feet a day under ideal conditions and that it can be used in a variety of products from
cosmetics to cereals (Monterey). Giant kelp is a very useful organism under the ocean that is
constantly used for many different products making this plant unique in many ways. (Roper) Deep
into the depths of the ocean is the giant squid. It has a radial body with two large eyes, eight arms, two
feeding tentacles and one funnel (Roper). They lurk near the coastlines in the Atlantic ocean and live
about 300 to 1000 meters deep into the bathyal zone (Roper). Giant squids can only live where there is
salt water, and often times thrives when exposed to colder waters as it has few predators that live in
colder environment. Often times it feeds on larger fish and other, smaller squids. When reproducing,
male giant squids contain a sperm packet which is expelled from the penis which is up to seven feet
long. When the male finds the female, he directly injects the sperm packet into her arm (Roper). The

Basic Principles of Democracy
The United States of America has five basic principles which ensure the ability of the country. The
basic foundations: fundamental worth, equality of all persons, majority rule minority rights, necessity
of compromise, and ividual freedom. This paper reviews three of the five principles: majority rule and
minority rights, individual freedom, and necessity of compromise. Two of these cases of individual
freedom plus majority rule and minority rights the United States has failed to uphold. The third case

Troxel Vs. Granville is the case at hand, concerning the lives of two grandchildren who are not
allowed to see their paternal grandparents. Visitation rights is what the grandparents are seeking to
attain. Gary and Jennifer Troxel are both physically and mentally capable of being with their two
grandchildren, but instead have been forbidden by their daughter in law. Brad Troxel, the father of
these two children committed suicide six years ago. The mother forbids visitation rights at all. To
uphold the necessity of compromise, visitation rights must be granted to these loving, caring, and able
grandparents. These children will lose out on a colossal amount of family history and values unless the
Supreme Court rules in favor of the grandparents. Grandparents may not be a part of the nuclear
family (father, mother, and children). However with the absence of the father they already lack a
nuclear family to learn from. A compromise must be made to save these children and their
grandparents from all the grief that is being caused by the children s mother. This is the only way to
uphold this basic foundation. Any person who sees these examples might worry that the United States
of America has simply failed to structure a sound foundation of democracy for itself. Horrifying as it
is, many cases such as the three in this paper show facts do not lie. Anyone has the capability to see

Neat People Vs Sloppy People Analysis
One may say that a neat person cleans every second of the day while a sloppy person doesn t clean up
after themselves but in the article we will differentiate between the two. In the essay Neat People vs.
Sloppy People, by Dave Barry he has his own opinion on the two. In the essay he says Neat people are
lazier and meaner than sloppy people , I agree with that because I am a very neat person but I am not
lazy. I like my room to be cleaned a certain way and the bathroom, cleaned the certain way because if
it isn t cleaned the way I clean it will make me feel like it wasn t cleaned to its full potential. If I had a
long day from school and work I might brush off cleaning for that day but that doesn t mean I am
lazier than anyone else. If I don t have time to clean my room and the bathroom I might get upset

Their sloppiness is merely the unfortunate consequence of their extreme moral rectitude. Sloppy
people carry in their mind s eye a heavenly vision, a precise plan, that is so stupendous, so perfect, it

different definitions for the word sloppy. The definition I know for sloppy is a person who is careless
and unsystematic; excessively casual. When I hear those words you think of someone who is messy
and is careless or even carefree about the world around them and how they present themselves. I
understand what the author thinks about sloppy people but the opinion that he is saying I don t think
that is the correct term to use for his opinion I believe the term that he sound of used was open minded

The Laughing Man by J.D. Salinger
J.D. Salinger (Jerome Davis Salinger) was said by some people to be one of the best American
Authors of past century. Salinger s works reflects the many experiences he had as a child. One of the
more common focuses tends to be his fascination with protecting the innocence in children.
Salinger was born in New York City an attended public school until he switched to the exclusive
McBurney School. In attending this school, Salinger was called an academically unexceptional
student . After this he was sent to the Valley Forge Military Academy. During his time there he added
to the literary magazine and yearbook. After this he went on to NYU for a short amount of time.
Teddy, a short story that details a young boys life, is an example of Salinger s struggle with the
corruption of a child s mind by the pursuit of knowledge. In this story Teddy McArdle is an extremely
smart boy. Similarly to the other stories in Nine Stories, this one also is about the loss of childhood
innocence and trying to get it back, even though it may be too late. Just like the others, this one also
features an adult and child relationship/interaction. Like Salinger, Teddy is interested in eastern
philosophy and believes that he has lived thousands of lives through incarnation. He also believes that
at one point in time he was very close to enlightenment. He said that the reason he didn t reach
enlightenment was because he fell in love with a girl. In his next life he said he didn t want that to

Improvements on the Evaluation Scope of Evaluation I would continue to use a mixed method
approach in the evaluation of the summer programs. However, I would first address the survey and
interview questions, and how the observation process occurred. Before doing anything else I would
attempt to make sure that these questions being evaluated were being asked in a manner suited to the
age appropriateness of the participants. This may entail that several different versions of the surveys to
exist. I would also ensure that the number of questions each survey contained was limited in hopes to
increase accuracy and completion due to the limited amount of time needed for completion. In the
questions asked, I would make sure to ask how the summer program impacted the participants.
Additionally, I would also survey the parents of the participants to get a take on what their perceptions
of the summer program were. Criterion Following revamping the scope of the evaluation a criterion in
which the data will be compared would be established. The established criterion would be presented in
the evaluation in length. The current evaluation seems to arbitrarily make a judgment of the worth of
the program, and there were no references to the criterion process used.

Malvolio and the Way he is Treated in William Shakespeare s The Twelfth Night
Malvolio is an extremely complicated and difficult character to study because of his mixed, complex
personality. At times in the play he seems very reliable and loyal but sometimes he seems foolish and
weak, and in many scenes in the play the audience are encouraged to laugh at him, his actions or his
words. He is not portrayed as a lovable character, which makes the play funnier. Also, the way that
Malvolio seems humourless actually makes him humorous. Just Malvolio s name can give you some
idea of his personality, it means in Latin evil wishing!

So, from being rude and offensive earlier on in the scene to Feste, he is now obedient and loyal.
Malvolio could, at this point, be called two faced. His personality changes depending on whom he is

Act II Scene 2 consists of a conversation between Malvolio and Viola/Cesario. Malvolio seems very
proud and pleased to be telling Viola/Cesario that Olivia does not want him to bring messages from
Orsino any more. Of course he does not realise that the implications of this message are actually the
complete opposite! He says:
And one thing more, that you never be so hardy to
come again in his affairs, unless it be to report your
lord s taking of this. (Lines 8 10)
Malvolio is then rude and selfish to Viola/Cesario because he obviously feels that he is more important
than him. Instead of handing Viola/Cesario the ring, he throws it onto the floor.
In the next scene, Act II Scene 3 Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are drinking, they persuade Feste to sing for
them but Maria is wary and warns them of the trouble they could be in. Malvolio is sent down by
Olivia to stop their unruly behaviour. Of course, Malvolio takes this opportunity to scold all of them
and be generally impolite to them:

The Life Of A Paleontologist
The Life Of A Paleontologist
Paleontology is the study of the history of life on earth based on fossils. Fossils are the remains of
plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, and single celled living things that have been replaced by rock
material or impressions of organisms preserved in rock. Overall it incorporates knowledge
occasionally from biology, geology, ecology, anthropology, archaeology, and computer science to
understand the processes that have led to the origination and extinction of the different types of
organisms since life arose. Henceforth, a paleontologist is a scientist who studies the history of
organic life on Earth, primarily focusing on the past.

Paleontologists use geologic maps to identify places that has the potential of finding a fossil. Geologic
maps show the age and the type of rock found on the Earth s surface. For example, in the case of
finding dinosaur fossils Paleontologists locate sedimentary rocks from the Mesozoic Era on a geologic
map, and go to those areas to hunt for fossils. Paleontologists also need to know how to use a
topographic map to locate a fossils elevation and to determine the best sites for paleontological
excavation.
Paleontologists often study amber. It is a type of fossil resin that can preserve tissue as delicate as
dragonfly wings. Some ants get trapped in amber while eating leaves, allowing scientists to know
exactly what they ate, and how they ate it. Also the air bubbles trapped in amber can conclude what
atmospheric changes were around when the organism lived, with the help of studying meteorology
(Landing. Ed, 2015) .
I interviewed Dr. Ed Landing, a paleontologist at the New York State Museum. Paleontologists who
work for a museum might see his/her days split between research and service, service might include
answering questions of public, answering emails of government agencies about different fossils and
often giving tours of the museum. The service also includes preservation, conservation, and data
basing of existing collections so that the collection might be used in research elsewhere (Landing. Ed,
2015) . Loaning or providing pictures of

What Is The Principle Of Management Principles
Universality: Principle of management are universally applicable. Principles of management are
applied in every situation, where the objectives are attained through group efforts. All organizations
such as social, political, cultural or even religious organizations apply for the successful operations of
their activities. Every organization must make optimum use of its available resources by the
application of management principles i.e., planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling
effectively and achieve the desired result. Flexibility:The principle of management are relative.
Management principles are dynamic guidelines and not satic rules. management helps the business in
multiplying its profit at minimum cost. The business situation and its socio economic environment is
enough to suit the size, nature, needs and situations of the business. Improvement and modification of
management principles is a continuing process, so the principles of management is always flexible and
can be molded.
General Statement: Management principles are concerned mostly with human behavior which cannot
be tested under controlled conditions i.e., a laboratory. Human behavior is always unpredictable. So,
management principles are not as exact as the principles of physical science. In this way, the

Florence, Italy, The Birthplace Of The Renaissance
Florence, Italy is often referred to as the birthplace of the Renaissance because many early artists and
writers in this period emerged from this city as well as the northern hills of Italy. Florence became a
center for trade, with its most wealthy merchants selling wool. This source of income provided the
rebirth of the city such as the building of large cathedrals, gilded mansions, and beautiful villas.
During most of the Renaissance the Medici family controlled Florence, and through their political
power encouraged the arts and the upcoming developments of the city. The most influential figure in
the Italian court towards the evolution of the ballet de cour was Catherine Medici. While she held her
title as the Queen Mother to her sons, she made sure that Italian pageants were a part of the French
court and included daily dance classes as a requirement of the courtesans. At this time there was great
conflict between the Catholics and the Huguenots (French Protestants). Catherine tried to bring peace
between the two factions, but neither side wanted anything but complete victory. Catherine used dance
as a way to bring harmony to disagreements, especially between religious groups, and to help bring
both of the royal courts together.
The Moresca is a style of dance that has been documented as early as the twelfth century, and began to
flourish during the Renaissance when the Medici family was in power. The dance is meant to be
performed by all types of people, and

European Colonisation In Australia Research Paper
Was European colonisation a positive thing overall?
Asking the question was European colonisation positive or negative? Isn t straight forward. One thing
that must be decided is who s perspective should be used? The only fair way to judge this without bias
is to use all perspectives equally and set the base line of judgment with factual evidence and basic
Principles of equality. The two primary perspectives are categories of the European settlers and the
indigenous Australians. The reason these two should be emphasised as categories and not one
perspective is they are comprised of thousands of people and each person will have a slightly varied
view. Although the focus will be be on the separate nations and categories viewpoints with variation
will be explored especially those that are drastically varied compared to the rest of the category.
The first of the two primary perspectives, the European settlers, is commonly seen as the unfair and
cruel side, and not without reason. When the European settlers first encountered the ... Show more

Boeing 787 Case Analysis
System viewpoints regards the organization as a system interrelated parts , can be considered a system
with many parts/departments that contributes to its organization to becoming successful. A systems
viewpoint includes four parts Inputs, Transformation processes, Output and Feedback which all are
important in a company. In the article Boeing especially displayed all systems to become a better
company. Throughout this paper I will be discussing how Boeing Company tries to get their company
back in order, starting with management involvement, suppliers and elaborating how management
methods plays a role in a company s outcome.
After reading the WSJ Boeing 787 article I was able to get a better understanding of what was going
good and bad within the company. Boeing is an overall good company but they were having
difficulties producing enough jets along with supplies coming in on time. Vaupell Holdings Inc.
Supplier of Boeing is in need of change in their system. Boeing has become more involved as a
company sending engineers to examine products for planes and jets. In my opinion Boeing as a
company is showing Quality control minimizing errors by managing each stage of production which
calls for engineers to examine supplies before they carry forward with making planes.
Boeing is trying to change the past and prove themselves to the world they can also keep up. Boeing
has won a series of contracts hope to make 300 more jets a year with their new plan. In the past they

Essential Competencies For Electrician
Essential Competencies for an Electrician
The work of electricians demands the application of specific knowledge, skills, and abilities among
other competencies. The competencies span a wide range of requirements. Notably, these
competencies are imperative, but not all of them are critical or essential. The set of essential
competencies delineates high performers from average performers. The following are some of the
essential competencies in this field.
Building and construction Knowledge
The knowledge of building and construction is imperative as it encompasses other skills as well. It
includes the utmost knowledge of methods, tools and materials applied in the construction and
maintenance of structures and buildings. The competency is critical because it inculcates imperative
engineering perspectives involved in electrical practice. For instance, most electric ... Show more

applications in constituting electrical systems.
Public Safety and Security Knowledge
Safety and security protocols constitute mandatory in the work of electricians. The installation, repair
and use of electricity are parameters that are subject to various risk factors. For electricians to work
efficiently, knowledge on the security procedures, policies and strategies is essential. The safety

Generational Difference in the Attitude of Immigrants Essay
There are many factors that contribute to what attitude an immigrant is going to have on their
newfound home. Some think the most important thing is their economic outlook, some their religious
beliefs, but for most, it is as simple as when they were born. Out of any factor, the generational
difference has the largest affect on the approach the immigrants have on their new country, which in
many cases is the United States. The generational difference is the largest determining factor because
of the impressionability of children, the established identity that the adults must change, and the
attachment to the old country that is stronger in some than others. It cannot be said for sure that a
certain generation is the better immigrant, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to culture, the children are the first to adopt it. The new society and all it has to offer
captivates them. Like Gogol and his sister, they want to eat all the food from America, they want all
the new toys, and they want to be American. In Crossing Over by Ruben Martinez, the fancy shoes
and clothes that come from America captivate many young Mexicans that cannot wait to go cross the
border themselves. They want to be like the migrant boys and their brand new sneakers and cooler
than cool beanies... (87). More so than adults, kids are mesmerized by a flashy society that has newer
and better things to offer. Other than what the society has to offer, kids are often benefited by a more
tolerant age. Many immigrants are treated poorly whether it be at the hand of racism or stereotypes.
This can really turn people off the American society and taint the image of the average American. It is
often said that kids are colorblind, and that very much holds true to different races, whether it be
Asian, Latino, or African. Adults can face discrimination when it comes to the way they talk or dress,
but children usually avoid this. Then, by the time they are adults, they have assimilated very well the
American culture and blend right in. Adults usually have a harder time adjusting to the new culture.
Many times, they simply do not want to have anything to do with a new culture because they already
have an identity with the culture of their past home.

What Is Predictive Technology In Law Enforcement
Over the course of the last two decades, intelligence led policing has made a major impact on law
enforcement. As its usage has emerged, two sides have formed regarding the implementation of this
controversial technology. Proponents of this strategy, including law enforcement agencies and
technology companies, have backed the efficient and effective nature of predictive policing. Critics of
the technology claim that policing tactics such as predictive algorithms and hotspot monitoring have
created more problems than they have solved, and that they have placed a wall between law
enforcement and the public. As high tech crime and cyber terrorism efforts in the United States

In an article by Sidney Perkowitz, titled Should we trust predictive policing software to cut crime? ,
Perkowitz questions the integrity of predictive technology and its effect on crime. She mentions that
PredPol is one of the only software companies that currently reports comprehensive statistics
regarding their effect on crime. Nevertheless, while the numbers reported by the company present its
software as a success in cities like Los Angeles, the information is generated by the company itself
and is therefore unreliable. In cities like Chicago, where independent studies have been conducted, the
results were not as promising. The results showed that the software did not reduce the number of
homicides committed, nor did it lower the chances of shooting victimization. Additionally, similar
studies in Shreveport, Louisiana have concluded that the software currently being used is not having a
significant effect on the property crime rate (Perkowitz, 2016). Perkowitz is insisting that there is not
enough evidence to back the effectiveness of predictive software in reducing crime rates. In addition,
because of the cases in which predictive software did not affect crime, positive trends in cities like Los
Angeles are not representative of the rest of the

A projector accomplishes this task by shining a light beam through an opening controlled by a device
called an iris diaphragm. An iris diaphragm is made of thin, opaque plates, and turning a ring changes
the diameter of the central opening. For optical camouflage to work properly, this opening must be the
size of a pinhole. Why? This ensures a larger depth of field so that the screen (in this case the cloak)
can be located any distance from the projector.
The Combiner:
The system requires a special mirror to both reflect the projected image toward the cloak and to let
light rays bouncing off the cloak return to the user s eye. This special mirror is called a beam splitter,
or a combiner a half silvered mirror that both reflects light (the silvered half) and transmits light (the
transparent half). If properly positioned in front of the user s eye, the combiner allows the user to
perceive both the image enhanced by the computer and light from the surrounding world. This is
critical because the computer generated image and the real world scene must be fully integrated for
the illusion of invisibility to seem realistic. The user has to look through a peephole in this mirror to
see the augmented reality.
INVISIBILITY CLOAK SYSTEM:
Now let s put all of these components together to see how the invisibility cloak appears to make a

Economic Effects Of The Great Depression
Economic Fallout
On October 29, 1929, Black Tuesday, the United States of America s stock market crashed causing the
Great Depression. The Great Depression of the 1930 s greatly impacted millions of people s lives
around the world. The Depression caused millions of people to lose their homes, jobs and food for
their families. The events causing, during, and after the Great Depression will forever be an important
part of American History that will never be forgotten.
The events that leading up to and caused the Depression date all the way back to World War I. After a
small economic downfall after the First World War, the economy began to boom in 1924 . The United
States economy boomed until 1929 and was at an all time high in 1928 due to the lowering of taxes .
One of the many reasons that caused the Great Depression was an overproduction of goods. During
World War, the consumption of goods was unbelievably high. When the war ended the United States
did not slow down on production and eventually had too much product for the demand. With the
numbers of products being sold, no one needed to buy anything because they had already stocked up
on everything needed. A Second reason for the Great Depression was the lack of foreign trade around
the world. In 1930, President Herbert Hoover passed the Smoot Hawley Tariff Act . The Act increased
Tariffs to such a high rate, that no countries would trade with the United States . International trade
has fallen by two thirds since

Block s Encounters With Death in The Seventh Seal
A 1957 film, written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, a Swedish writer, producer, and director, The
Seventh Seal concentrates on Antonius Block s journey following his return from the Crusade to
Sweden at a time when the country was plagued by the Black Death. In addition to displaying the
knight on his journey home, the film focuses on the continuous chess match he has against the
personification of Death, who has come to take him away. The use of multiple chess scenes between
Block and Death as a metaphor for Block s attempt to elongate his life to find the meaning in life not
only leads the knight to go on a quest in search of knowledge , but at the same time, allows the
important theme of light against dark to emerge, presenting the constant struggle between hope and
despair as a way to describe Block s struggle and triumph. The film starts in a gloomy mood as wild
waves and dark background music welcome knight Antonius Block following his return from the
Crusades after ten years to his homeland Sweden. To add further darkness to an already hostile
surrounding, Death, whose pale face is covered in black robe, ominously emerges out of nowhere,
unexpectedly surprising Block and creating even more suspense. Once they encounter with one
another, Death expresses his intent to take Block s life in the immediate aftermath of his return: Who
are you? I am Death. I have long walked at your side. That I know Are you ready? My body is, not

Cinderella In Therapy Essay
Cinderella in Therapy
In the movie Cinderella, Cinderella is a maid to an evil stepmother and two very heartless and
obnoxious stepsisters. The only reason that Cinderella still puts up with their orders is an example of
the Behavioral perspective. The Behavioral Perspective puts emphasis on learning by experience with
rewards and punishments. She knows that if she does not do the chores, she will be punished or
thrown out of the household. She does not have anywhere to go because her mother and father have
passed away. Because Cinderella is a genuinely kind human being who wishes to please, she usually

She is very kind to all creatures, whether it be animals or humans. Cinderella takes it upon herself to
robe, feed, and befriend the animals of the house. She takes care of her evil stepmother and stepsisters
because she is good at heart, and she will put up with their torture to help them. She could choose not
to help them, or just to leave, but she knows that she won t have anything left, and they need her. It is
because of this pure, perfect attitude that the prince falls in love with her instantly, and not with the
other girls that just want to be with the prince for superficial reasons. Her effervescent kind
heartedness that prevails through her hardships is an example of the humanistic perspective. The
humanistic perspective views behavior as controlled by the decisions that people make about their
lives based on their perceptions of the world. It s a view in which personality is seen as developing
through an actualizing tendency which unfolds in accordance with each person s unique perceptions of
the world.
There are some small parts in the movie that infer what Cinderella wants through her dreams. This
would be an example of psychoanalysis which is a method that seeks to help gain insight into one s
mind by recognizing and understanding unconscious thoughts and emotions. She mentions that she
dreams at night of finding someone who will take her away from the house she is spending her days in

Maya
The ancient Maya were a group of American Indian peoples who lived in southern Mexico,
particularly the present day states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo, and in
Belize, Guatemala, and adjacent Honduras. Their descendants, the modern Maya, live in the same
regions today, in both highlands and lowlands, from cool highland plains ringed by volcanos to deep
tropical rain forests.
Through the region runs a single major river system, the Apasion Usumacinta and its many tributaries,
and only a handful of lesser rivers, the Motagua, Hondo, and Belize among them. The ancestors of the

events in rulers lives. The chronological record turned out to serve history and the perpetuation of the

and TIKAL, confirmed much of what the writings said, and examination of Maya art has revealed not
only historical portraiture but also a pantheon of gods, goddesses, and heroes in other words, Maya
religion and mythic history.
HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT MAYA
By 5000 BC, the Maya had settled along Caribbean and Pacific coasts, forming egalitarian fishing
communities. Certainly by 2000 BC the Maya had also moved inland and adopted agriculture for their
subsistence. Maize and beans formed the Maya diet then as today, although many other foodstuffs
squash, tomatoes, peppers, fruits, and game were supplements. The word for maize wa is synonymous
with food itself, and the maize god was honored from early times.
Preclassic Period
During the Early Preclassic (2000 900 BC), civilization began to take shape in parts of
MESOAMERICA. By 1200 BC, the OLMEC of the Gulf Coast had risen to preeminence, dominating
trade routes that extended from the modern Mexican state of Guerrero to Costa Rica, passing through
Maya regions. At COPAN, Honduras, and Cuello, Belize, around 1000 BC, local Maya leaders began

Count Of Monte Cristo Accuracy

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) was written by Jay Wolpert and directed by Kevin Reynolds. It was

Surprisingly to me I couldn t find too many historical inaccuracies in this movie. The settings of
scenes match up well with 1800s France and all of the architecture is generally similar to French
architecture of the time period. Where I found the most inaccuracies was in the clothes that the
characters wore. Doing a little research on the fashion of the 1800s, specifically 1815 1844 when the
story takes place, I found that the style of clothes that the characters wear would be nearly half a
century old, the clothes worn in the film being more reminiscent to late 1700s fashion. Not to mention
the total negation of hats in the film which were a staple of men s fashion throughout the 1800s. But
the most glaring inaccuracy, concerning fashion of the time, are the clothes that are worn by the Count
of Monte Cristo himself, Edmond DantĂšs. In what I assume to be an artistic design choice to make the
count seem more regal or foreign, as he tries to appear as if he s not from France, only comes off as
odd and off putting for the time period. Unfortunately since the story of The Count of Monte Cristo is

Why Guns Should Be Banned
Is it time to ban guns? Yes guns must be banned because they are the causes of many deaths amongst
the people of the U.S today. Gun violence result in fifty percent of today s tragedies. Handguns causes
too many deaths, the government need to make gun less accessible, and the law enforcement need to
really enforce the laws they make. First, and foremost many handguns have claimed the lives of too
many people. This is a very serious issue we must tackle globally not just in the United States. 1.7

Industry concentration. It s imperative to choose if there s really a danger of a Monopoly, before the

The amount of households subscribing to cable and satellite television has indeed grown. What they
could not have foreseen was the emerging rent by mail market. Pay per view has always been a
competitor to Blockbuster, but also offers a limited, dynamic selection of new releases only. Premium
cable channels such as HBO and Showtime have also been on the rise in subscription, but lack of
quality movies and control over what is shown have still allowed Blockbuster to fulfill its target
market. Recently, certain major cable providers have begun offering On Demand television. On
Demand has two forms, fee per month, and pay per view. The fee per month system is offered by the
major pay channels such as HBO and Showtime, and basically allows the subscriber to browse the
network s constantly rotating selection and pick what movie they want to watch and when. This is not
widely available but could become a major threat as more cable providers offer it as an option. Its only
drawback is the consumer pays their monthly fee and has no control over the selections they have to
choose from. Now, there is online rent by mail. Under rent by mail, the consumer still pays a monthly
subscription fee comparable to HBO On Demand, but now can choose from thousands of titles and
watch and return them whenever they please. The leader in this niche of the market is Netflix. Netflix
boasts offering over 25,000 titles available for rent at anytime. Netflix,

Intercommunion Research Paper
Intercommunion has been a major discussion when it comes to the uniting the Christian churches.
Intercommunion is when non Catholic Christian receive the Eucharist/communion in the catholic
church or when other Christian receive communions in a different church. Although the reason behind
intercommunion is for uniting the different churches, it still challenges belief and practices. The
Catholic Church viewpoint of the Eucharist is different from other Christian, and this creates issues
because there is a different appreciation for it. The catholic Church views the Eucharist as being more
than a symbol (Heintz). To them, it s a special sign that shows the representation of Jesus Christ. The
Eucharist represent the body, blood and soul of Jesus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes it difficult to do intercommunion because it s other Christian receiving the Eucharist in a
church they do not belong to. It defeats the purpose of this sacrament. According to the code of Canon
Law, it is considered illicit or unlawful if a catholic receives communion from a protestant church
because an individual can only be in full communion with one church (Field). Although they may
have an expectation when it comes to the law such when a dying person request for a communion.
Catholics and Intercommunion: Intercommunion is a very touchy subject by Michael Heintz talks
about a significant difference in belief and practice between Catholics and other Christian, and these
differences still exist. This another reason why intercommunion is not possible because to part take in
communion one must believe in what the church practice. But if one do not believe in the practice,
and have a practice of their own then one cannot part take in it. This is a major factor when it comes to
the Eucharist because it connecting the individual to the church. Intercommunion cannot be possible if
the churches have a different understanding of the Eucharist (Heintz). People who do not understand
the meaning of the Eucharist should ask a question before part taking it because it also shows respect.

How Is Thor Related To Norse Mythology
The legend of Thor is a bit different than what is portrayed in Marvel s movie Thor. Thor was a very
important god is from Norse mythology and was a thunder god while his wife was a fertility goddess.
Odin, Thor s father was the chief Viking god and legend says that Odin enjoyed disguising himself as
a human and would seduce human women. In the Marvel movies, Odin is depicted as a completely
different god and Thor is your average all brawns, quick tempered, hero myth. Norse mythology and
Marvel s rendition of Thor and the Norse gods are completely different and while prior to the course, I
never would have known otherwise. I have always thought that I understood mythology prior to this
course but it would seem that over the last 6 weeks, my understanding of mythology came from comic
books and Marvel movies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While many myths have been turned into movies and comic books, my opinion was that Vikings were
hot tempered fair skinned brutes. I recently sat down at watched Marvel s Thor and thought I could get
into it. Thor was handsome, hot tempered, strong, but he had a tender side for his human companion. I
did not really know or understand the true myth of Thor nor did I truly understand Norse mythology
which left me feeling a bit naĂŻve. After delving into the past few weeks, I realize that many ancient
civilizations have myths and traditions, Thor is true Norse mythology and after learning the
differences between Thor, the Marvel character, and Thor the god, Norse mythology, I have a deeper

The Indigenous People Of Australia
Ever since the colonization of Australia by the British Empire in the 18th Century, the indigenous
people of Australia have been subject to social inequalities that have left their community ravaged.
This treatment of the indigenous people was justified by the concept of Racial Othering, and it
continues to perpetuate the unequal treatment of the indigenous people in Australia, to this day. One
group of people are deemed the norm, and everyone else is designated as the Other, who are
considered deviant (Fozdar, Wilding Hawkins 2009, pp. 4 5). In the case of the Indigenous people,
Racial Othering was originally based on physical differences determined by genetics that differed
from race to race, but today it also takes into account the cultural differences of people (Wilding
Hawkins 2009, p. 5). What exactly Racial Othering is, and just how it has contributed to the
inequalities experienced by the indigenous people of Australia, and what those inequalities are, will be
elaborated on below.
To begin with, the concept of Racial Othering must be properly explained. It is an offshoot of
Othering itself, which as explained by George Herbert Mead, is a process whereby people learn to
become members of the society they belong to, by defining themselves by what they aren t, rather than
what they are (Mead, 1934). Typically, those differ to the majority of people in society will be
considered deviants, and the majority considered the normal. In this vein, Racial Othering is when

Designing The Costume For The Tin Man
1. Imagine you are designing the costume for the Tin Man. What advantages and disadvantages does
the costume in the film have? (Consider aspects such as mobility, realism, artistic intent, and so on.)
Would you make any changes to the costume for a theater production? Why or why not? If i were to
design a costume for the tin man, some advantages would be price, and portability, but some of the
disadvantaged would be the way it may reflect light and also if it s comfortable for the one who wears
it.
2. In the scene where Dorothy says goodbye to Oz (time code 1:37:38), what is the mood of the scene?
How does the filmmaker achieve this mood? The mood of the scene was very depressing because of
how she accomplished so much and then she had to return back home to her family. The way that they
have the success was to make everyone look sad and silent, even the expression of tears put out more
of the mood of that whole scene. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Museum Misconceptions
This thesis focuses on archaeology programming in museums and the common visitor misconceptions
about archaeology that museum educators face, especially those promoted by popular culture. By
recognizing the notions and understanding of archaeology that visitors and program participants carry
with them, museums can create truly educational programs that go beyond the adventure/detective
version of pop culture archaeology and successfully introduce the archaeological discipline to the
general public. This thesis analyzes and explores what misconceptions of archaeology are commonly
held by museum visitors, what their source is, and how museum programming can address these
notions.
The author of this thesis chose to pursue this research topic thanks to a personal background in
archaeology and an interest in education, which coincidentally led them to The University of the Arts

This is especially true for university museums where the university has its own archaeology
department. In general, the types of archaeology programs found in museums feature tours of
archaeological collections, hands on art making activities, and mock digs. The University of

Making Summer Camp. Each week of this camp has a different theme, one of which is solely
dedicated to the subject of archaeology and featuring a mock dig. During the summer of 2016 this
week focused on the archaeology of Greece and Rome. The author first encountered this program
from a colleague who had previously worked as a camp counselor. The Penn Museum summer camp
became a major component of this thesis. Conversations with the director of the program, Jennifer

The Influence Of Digital Media On The United States Army
The Influence of Digital Media on the United States Army Digital media has integrated itself into
nearly every facet of the modern United States Army. For many years, the Army has increased its
dependency on the use of digital media in day to day operations, training, communications, public
relations, and administrative tasks. Some people claim that we are too dependent on these
technologies for our own good. However, it has helped keep us the most powerful fighting force on
the face of the planet. This case study will look at five functional areas that digital media has
improved the Army: Administration, Training, Communication, Public Relations, and Warfighting
Capabilities. In each of these functional areas, we will explore how ... Show more content on

This meant the signed copy then had to be scanned back into the computer and then emailed or
uploaded into a database. Of course, the original paper copy still existed, so the Army had not met the
goal of being paperless yet. Finally, around 2012 the Army acquired the technology that included the
digital signature that would allow them to truly go paperless. The technology had existed for five
years, but the Army s slow procurement and distribution process was one of the many lessons learned:
in the digital age, the Army had to move faster and be more flexible to change. This paperless platform
would allow the Army to overhaul all administrative systems. The Publication Directorate stopped
printing paper copies of manuals and regulations, and posted the digital copies to an online library,
where changes could easily be updated. Evaluations could be completed online, signed online, and
submitted online. Leave forms and award recommendations could go from one user to approver with
the click of a button across the world if needed. And promotion boards no longer needed to flip
through endless reams of paper to select candidates just click through digital copies of a file for a
potential promotion candidate. The Army is positioning itself for the future by reducing the number of
people it needs to do the administrative work of the past and train the future administrators in
computer applications for the future. A company 20 years ago traditionally had two

Suspense In The Others By Trojandro Amenabar
The Others written and directed by Alejandro Amenabar is a suspenseful horror film revolving around
the concepts of dissociation and denial. It is quite possibly the most unexpected ghost story ever told
on film and is very iconic in the horror genre for its many cloak and dagger twists.
The plotline centers within an old Victorian styled mansion located in the Isle of Jersey, England
during WWII from the viewpoint of a family that appears to live there. Three mysterious servants
arrive to the home after the previous servants are no where to be found, since their arrival a series of
strange incidents occur as they discover they are not alone. The implied plot is that the home is
haunted, at times scenes are shown in which there appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fog plays an important role as Grace attempts to walk through it seeking a priest to rid her home
of what she believed to be ghosts . However since they are dead Grace and her children are tied to the
house and the fog prevents them from going past a certain point. The mood or emotional response
experienced by the reader is a very important element that contributes to the overall whole .
This film borrows themes dealing with insanity and madness, which are direct extensions to the
overall concepts of dissociation and denial this film portrays. Grace introduces herself to the viewers
as a flawed, emotional and troubled woman. Which sets the mood for the viewer and contributes to the
overall impression.
The conflicts that arise appear to come from external sources but as the story is revealed we realize
these conflicts are actually representations of internal strife. In this way, the film utilizes person via
self while appearing to be person vs.

Mandatory Non Medical Funding For Children Entering Public...
Choosing to vaccinate or not vaccinate children has become a large topic of contention between
parents and medical personnel. Rates of non medical vaccine exemptions for children entering public
school continue to increase across the country. This increase has coincided with a resurgence in
outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases, or VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.1). There are a variety of
reasons why a family might apply for a non medical exemption and the validity of these exemptions
varies from state to state. Regardless of the justifiability of an exemption, growing numbers of non
vaccinated children entering school will increase the prevalence and mortality from VPDs (Lynfield,
2014, p.2). The recommended vaccinations for children entering kindergarten are 4 doses of
diphtheria, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis (DTaP), 2 doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella
(MMR) vaccine, and 2 doses of the varicella vaccine. The national Healthy People 2020 goal for
kindergarten vaccination rates is 95%. Although the majority of states report vaccination rates at or
near the goal, clusters of non vaccinated groups can develop in some communities (Seither, 2014, p.1).
Anthropological studies showed that the higher rates of non vaccination correlated with outbreaks of
diseases for which children typically receive vaccines. In reaction to numerous outbreaks related to
higher rates of non vaccinated children, California and other states introduced legislation to make it

How Video Games Changed Throughout History
From Fad to Phenomenon: How Video Games Changed Throughout History
Around the middle of the 20th Century man cultures started to grow beyond what they previously
were thanks to different mediums (such as television and music) helping to push boundaries; with this
came the birth of pop culture. Considering pop culture is a shortened version of popular culture it s
clear that many of the things in pop culture would be short lived. The short lived trends and
happenings are labeled as fads . Strangely enough, some fads progress beyond their short lifespan and
actually become a mainstay in the varying international cultures. One such example might be familiar
as it is common in today s society. This example is, indeed, video games. When video games were
first being introduced to the general public, they weren t all that exciting. Most gaming took place in
arcades and most arcades didn t have many game cabinets due to their being very few games to begin
with. However, all of this changed when the Atari 2600 was released. At the time, Atari was known for
their home computers and their hit arcade game Pong . Though the Atari 2600 might not have been the
first video game system, it was definitely the most successful at that time and a great success for Atari
s first attempt at a home video game console. Thanks to the success of the 2600, video games began to
take off and arcades started popping up all over the world with hits like Pac Man and Donkey Kong .
These would be the

Classroom Management Strategies For High School Teachers
Six Classroom Management Strategies for High School Teachers
(Without Good Classroom Management a Teacher Loses Control)
One of the biggest keys to being a successful teacher is classroom management. Of course, there are
different needs depending on if you teach kindergartners or high school auto shop students, and every
teacher has his or her own individual style. A constant through out all classrooms is this, without good
classroom management, a teacher loses control. Once you lose control of the classroom the amount of
actual teaching and learning diminishes to almost nothing.
I am by nature not a strong disciplinarian and like to be relaxed and fun with my class. I will never be
known as that mean teacher . I am the teacher students think they can get away with mischief in class,
and in my early years, they did get away with a lot. I will never be up to the level of one of my
colleagues, who has been teaching high school English for almost 40 years. She is a wonderful woman
who can even scare other teachers during staff meetings if they were to talk or fidget.
I have however, over the years been able to find ways to combine my somewhat easygoing personality
with some constant classroom rules and ideas to maintain a good learning atmosphere. Here is a
simple list of six suggestions I think most teachers will agree with and should use.
1) Over plan each day You need to keep students busy working or listening. If you have a dead time at
the end of your class, it can be

  • 2. Design Theory And The General Systems Theory Introduction The uses of conceptual models are essential to help guide the nursing process. There are many different types of conceptual models and among these models there is the Roy Adaption model that was created by Sister Callista Roy. According to McEwen, like many models/theories in this unit, it is a deductive theory based on nursing practice (p. 177, 2014). Throughout this paper, we will be explaining, discussing and analyzing this specific model by the use of a clinical situation. Presentation of the conceptual model The Roy adaption model was influenced by Helson s Adaption Theory and the General Systems Theory, which was developed by Ludwig von Bertalanffy in 1968 (Pepin, Kerouac Ducharme, 2010). Each and every theory has a basic philosophy as to where it stems from and the Roy model stems from the concepts of humanism and veritivity. The principle of humanism describes that every individual s human experiences affects their knowledge and values in the world. The principal of veritivity was created by Roy and is defined as, a principal of human nature that affirms a common purposefulness of human existence (Roy Andrews, 2008, p. 27). Roy has four basic components of adaption. The first component is physiological and as for the other three, they are considered psychosocial. Each component can be evaluated as being either adaptive, which is considered positive, or ineffective, which is considered negative (Roy Andrews, 2008). To decide whether a ... Children between the ages of 4 and 5 will then start school in the reception class. The environments that education can be provided in include the following: Nursery Schools: Nurseries schools provide early learning for children between the ages of 3 and five. Play groups and pre schools: Often run voluntarily, they usually take children between 3 and 5 although may have a provision for 2 year olds. Although not compulsory, free early years education is available to all 3 and 4 year olds throughout the UK if their parents wish for them to attend. It is also being extended to some two year olds. This free education covers nurseries and childminders. All 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours of free Early Years Education per week, for up to 38 weeks of the year. In nurseries this is usually taken as 3 hours per day (either a morning place or an afternoon place attending 5 days a week). The Role of Self Perceived Prototypicality in Self Verification of Group Members In many of previous theories and research, the concept of prototypicality has been highly relevant in examining the nature of group membership and inter and intra group behaviours (Kleef et al., 2007; Steinel et al., 2010; Ellemers Jetten, 2013). Based on self categorisation theory, prototypicality is defined as the position within the group according to the degree to which one represents the group s most typical characteristics (Oakes, 1996; GĂłmez, Jetten Swann, 2014). An individual is considered to be a core member when they possess most of the defining features of the group, and a peripheral group member when they display only some of the features. Numerous ... Chemical Castration for Repeat Sex Offenders Essay Chemical Castration for Repeat Sex Offenders Child molestation and sexual assault is an ever growing problem in the United States today, but an even bigger problem is that these pedophiles are being released after only serving as little as one quarter of their sentence. In California alone (at the time the bill was first passed), there was an estimated 680 individuals on parole for molestation and other sexual assaults including sodomy by force with a victim under the age of thirteen as well as child molestation with foreign objects. The practice of castrating violent criminals can be traced back to Germany in the 1930s, and throughout Europe. It has shown to be one of the most effective deterrents for sexual ... This drug treatment helps to lower sex drives and decrease aggressive and violent tendencies. There are side effects to this drug just as there are for every other medicine on the market. Although it was not created for men, they suffer no extra side effects than the women. Chemical castration is an exceptional alternative to prison time or it works as a stepping block for integration back into society. It is a more cost effective alternative as well as being more efficient in correcting the problem as opposed to locking it up. With strict guidelines and continual use it can be the most effective course of action for sexual offenders today. Monitored chemical castration should be the only alternative to full sentence prison time for repeat sex offenders, and child molesters, unless he voluntarily requests surgical castration. He was an orphan by the time he was in his teens and, disturbed by the rise of the Nazi party, desperate to fight against them. His repeated attempts to enlist in the army, however, were rejected because he couldn t pass the physical. Brad Troxel, the father of these two children committed suicide six years ago. The mother forbids visitation rights at all. To uphold the necessity of compromise, visitation rights must be granted to these loving, caring, and able grandparents. A compromise must be made to save these children and their grandparents from all the grief that is being caused by the children s mother. This is the only way to uphold this basic foundation. Neat People Vs Sloppy People Analysis One may say that a neat person cleans every second of the day while a sloppy person doesn t clean up after themselves but in the article we will differentiate between the two. In the essay Neat People vs. Sloppy People, by Dave Barry he has his own opinion on the two. In the essay he says Neat people are lazier and meaner than sloppy people , I agree with that because I am a very neat person but I am not lazy. I like my room to be cleaned a certain way and the bathroom, cleaned the certain way because if it isn t cleaned the way I clean it will make me feel like it wasn t cleaned to its full potential. • 12. The Laughing Man by J.D. Salinger J.D. Salinger (Jerome Davis Salinger) was said by some people to be one of the best American Authors of past century. Salinger s works reflects the many experiences he had as a child. One of the more common focuses tends to be his fascination with protecting the innocence in children. Salinger was born in New York City an attended public school until he switched to the exclusive McBurney School. In attending this school, Salinger was called an academically unexceptional student . After this he was sent to the Valley Forge Military Academy. During his time there he added to the literary magazine and yearbook. After this he went on to NYU for a short amount of time. Teddy, a short story that details a young boys life, is an example of Salinger s struggle with the corruption of a child s mind by the pursuit of knowledge. In this story Teddy McArdle is an extremely smart boy. Similarly to the other stories in Nine Stories, this one also is about the loss of childhood innocence and trying to get it back, even though it may be too late. Just like the others, this one also features an adult and child relationship/interaction. Like Salinger, Teddy is interested in eastern philosophy and believes that he has lived thousands of lives through incarnation. He also believes that at one point in time he was very close to enlightenment. He said that the reason he didn t reach enlightenment was because he fell in love with a girl. Malvolio and the Way he is Treated in William Shakespeare s The Twelfth Night Malvolio is an extremely complicated and difficult character to study because of his mixed, complex personality. At times in the play he seems very reliable and loyal but sometimes he seems foolish and weak, and in many scenes in the play the audience are encouraged to laugh at him, his actions or his words. He is not portrayed as a lovable character, which makes the play funnier. Also, the way that Malvolio seems humourless actually makes him humorous. His personality changes depending on whom he is interacting with. Act II Scene 2 consists of a conversation between Malvolio and Viola/Cesario. Malvolio seems very proud and pleased to be telling Viola/Cesario that Olivia does not want him to bring messages from Orsino any more. Of course he does not realise that the implications of this message are actually the complete opposite! He says: And one thing more, that you never be so hardy to come again in his affairs, unless it be to report your lord s taking of this. (Lines 8 10) Malvolio is then rude and selfish to Viola/Cesario because he obviously feels that he is more important than him. Instead of handing Viola/Cesario the ring, he throws it onto the floor. In the next scene, Act II Scene 3 Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are drinking, they persuade Feste to sing for them but Maria is wary and warns them of the trouble they could be in. Malvolio is sent down by Olivia to stop their unruly behaviour. Of course, Malvolio takes this opportunity to scold all of them and be generally impolite to them: Have you no wit, manners, nor honesty, but to gabble like tinkers at this time of night? Fossils are the remains of plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, and single celled living things that have been replaced by rock material or impressions of organisms preserved in rock. Overall it incorporates knowledge occasionally from biology, geology, ecology, anthropology, archaeology, and computer science to understand the processes that have led to the origination and extinction of the different types of organisms since life arose. Paleontologists also need to know how to use a topographic map to locate a fossils elevation and to determine the best sites for paleontological excavation. Paleontologists often study amber. It is a type of fossil resin that can preserve tissue as delicate as dragonfly wings. Some ants get trapped in amber while eating leaves, allowing scientists to know exactly what they ate, and how they ate it. Also the air bubbles trapped in amber can conclude what atmospheric changes were around when the organism lived, with the help of studying meteorology (Landing. Ed, 2015) . • 18. Florence, Italy, The Birthplace Of The Renaissance Florence, Italy is often referred to as the birthplace of the Renaissance because many early artists and writers in this period emerged from this city as well as the northern hills of Italy. Florence became a center for trade, with its most wealthy merchants selling wool. This source of income provided the rebirth of the city such as the building of large cathedrals, gilded mansions, and beautiful villas. During most of the Renaissance the Medici family controlled Florence, and through their political power encouraged the arts and the upcoming developments of the city. The most influential figure in the Italian court towards the evolution of the ballet de cour was Catherine Medici. While she held her title as the Queen Mother to her sons, she made sure that Italian pageants were a part of the French court and included daily dance classes as a requirement of the courtesans. At this time there was great conflict between the Catholics and the Huguenots (French Protestants). Catherine tried to bring peace between the two factions, but neither side wanted anything but complete victory. Catherine used dance as a way to bring harmony to disagreements, especially between religious groups, and to help bring both of the royal courts together. Out of any factor, the generational difference has the largest affect on the approach the immigrants have on their new country, which in many cases is the United States. • 36. Count Of Monte Cristo Accuracy Historical Movie Analysis: The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) was written by Jay Wolpert and directed by Kevin Reynolds. It was based on the novel of the same name written by Alexander Dumas and Auguste Maquet in 1844. The movie was met with moderate financial and critical success making $75.4 million dollars off a budget of $35 million and receiving a 73% on rotten tomatoes. But statistics aside how historically accurate and relevant is The Count of Monte Cristo? That is the question I will be answering in this short paper but before I go over the historical accuracies and inaccuracies let me give you a brief summery of the movie to give you a better idea of the world and time period this movie tries to portray. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surprisingly to me I couldn t find too many historical inaccuracies in this movie. The settings of scenes match up well with 1800s France and all of the architecture is generally similar to French architecture of the time period. Where I found the most inaccuracies was in the clothes that the characters wore. Doing a little research on the fashion of the 1800s, specifically 1815 1844 when the story takes place, I found that the style of clothes that the characters wear would be nearly half a century old, the clothes worn in the film being more reminiscent to late 1700s fashion. Not to mention the total negation of hats in the film which were a staple of men s fashion throughout the 1800s. But the most glaring inaccuracy, concerning fashion of the time, are the clothes that are worn by the Count of Monte Cristo himself, Edmond DantĂšs. In what I assume to be an artistic design choice to make the count seem more regal or foreign, as he tries to appear as if he s not from France, only comes off as odd and off putting for the time period. Unfortunately since the story of The Count of Monte Cristo is a fictional story there isn t a lot more that I can compare to real world events that took place during the time period, however I can go over some events that the film ... The Indigenous People Of Australia Ever since the colonization of Australia by the British Empire in the 18th Century, the indigenous people of Australia have been subject to social inequalities that have left their community ravaged. This treatment of the indigenous people was justified by the concept of Racial Othering, and it continues to perpetuate the unequal treatment of the indigenous people in Australia, to this day. One group of people are deemed the norm, and everyone else is designated as the Other, who are considered deviant (Fozdar, Wilding Hawkins 2009, pp. 4 5). In the case of the Indigenous people, Racial Othering was originally based on physical differences determined by genetics that differed from race to race, but today it also takes into account the cultural differences of people (Wilding Hawkins 2009, p. 5). What exactly Racial Othering is, and just how it has contributed to the inequalities experienced by the indigenous people of Australia, and what those inequalities are, will be elaborated on below. To begin with, the concept of Racial Othering must be properly explained. It is an offshoot of Othering itself, which as explained by George Herbert Mead, is a process whereby people learn to become members of the society they belong to, by defining themselves by what they aren t, rather than what they are (Mead, 1934). Rates of non medical vaccine exemptions for children entering public school continue to increase across the country. This increase has coincided with a resurgence in outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases, or VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.1). There are a variety of reasons why a family might apply for a non medical exemption and the validity of these exemptions varies from state to state. Regardless of the justifiability of an exemption, growing numbers of non vaccinated children entering school will increase the prevalence and mortality from VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.2). The recommended vaccinations for children entering kindergarten are 4 doses of diphtheria, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis (DTaP), 2 doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and 2 doses of the varicella vaccine. The national Healthy People 2020 goal for kindergarten vaccination rates is 95%. How Video Games Changed Throughout History From Fad to Phenomenon: How Video Games Changed Throughout History Around the middle of the 20th Century man cultures started to grow beyond what they previously were thanks to different mediums (such as television and music) helping to push boundaries; with this came the birth of pop culture.
