Coming Of Age In Mississippi Analysis
In the chapter Coming of Age in Mississippi;
Anne Moody had always heard about so many people shot dead floating down the river but she never
really knew why. She overheard a little about Emmett Till s death as her and her friends were
following behind a group of boy s on their way home from school. She thought they were unusually
quiet until they started shouting about a fourteen year old boy that got killed by white men because he
whistled at her. Mrs. Burke also asked her about the boy and told her, He was killed because he got
out of his place with a white woman. (1) She then went to her teacher Mrs. Rice for questions and
found out about Emmett till s case.
Anne s mother said that an evil spirit killed Emmett Till because the white ... Show more content on

The majority of the African American people lived in fear of this evil that was everywhere around
them. One mistake, one look, one word, it takes one wrong move to get you killed. Anne lied when
Mrs. Burke asked her about Emmett Till s death; one because she was a very scary woman, and two
she remembers her mother telling her to do her work like she doesn t know anything. Her mother
knew better, she knew that Anne would be in big trouble if she said anything to Mrs. Burke about
what happened. I guess back then, staying quiet and acting like you don t know anything is better than
disappearing.
According to Mrs. Burke, Emmett Till had to die because he was a very disrespectful boy that got out
of his place with a white woman. He was from up North so she said that the Negro men were more
disrespectful up north than there in the south.
After finding out about Emmett Till s tragic death and the many others who were slaughtered and
tortured she became a student activist and joined the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP) organization to fight for their own

Camping Is A Outdoor Activity That Is Enjoyed By Many Each...
Camping is a outdoor activity that is enjoyed by many each year. Family, friends and strangers, come
together to enjoy the great outdoors. Where the musical sounds of Mother Nature s symphony
orchestra sings you her lullaby as you fall asleep. The warmth from the fire warms your heart as you
listen to stories of ghost, creatures, and goblins that the smoke seems to form into as it fades into the
midnight sky. This is what I picture when I think about camping until I interview Ryan Oiler about it.
Ryan Oiler grandparents introduce him to camping when he was just two years old. Ryan (now 20) has
camped out at the Pocono s, Valley Forge, and even the senator s baseball field when he was in the
Boy scouts. Ryan stated he cannot imagine life without camping. With a big smile as he first started

camping trips is not like packing for a weekend to your grand mom s house. When packing your tent
make sure you spray it with waterproofing spay so it does not get wet from the morning dew or worst
rain. As you pack your clothes keep in mind that the weather during the day and night can change
drastically. The weather can be 90 degrees during the day and drop to the 70 s at night depending on
the camp site. The food surprising just doesn t consist of chocolate bars, marshmallows, and graham
crackers. Some items can be pack are bacon, eggs, and bananas. Depending if you have a cooler and a

Examples Of Irony In Open The Window
In the two short stories, Like the Sun and Open the Window there is irony and paradox hidden within
them both . Paradox is when a statement or phrase cancels out another sentence . For example , I ate
no pizza , but I had a piece . Irony is when you say something that references something else . For
example , a person doesn t know that there is a scary clown outside, but the audience or reader does .
The first paradox is in the story Like the Sun . The main paradox in this story is you are suppose to tell
people the truth, but if you do it can cause many conflicts, than if you just say nothing and nod . In the
story, Sekhar was asked if he heard about the death of a character, if it was a pity . The other man
replied and said how nice

How Did The Seven Year War Affect Canada
Canada was a very unstable country 150 years ago, with two countries fighting over the land. John A
MacDonald helped make Canada a very strong and stable country. The French took over the land of
Canada and called it New France. Later on, he British took control of New France and later on, called
it British North America. One big part of Canadian history was developing a Responsible government
to take care of its citizens. In the time period between 1700s and the 1850s there was a lot of war and
acts in Canada. Like the war of the Spanish Succession, the Seven Year War, the Constitution Act and
the Act of Union, until they found peace. From 1700s to the 1850s there were a lot of events that

The French were affected because they lost the war. Both sides returned some of the places they had
captured from the other war. New France was not among them, it remained a British colony. The
French Empire in this part of North America was at an end. The colony of New France did not last. It
officially ended with the Treaty of Paris, in 1763. Britain ended up getting Louisbourg and New
France did not want to sign the treaty of Paris because they gave up everything. In 1791 when the
Loyalists originally from Britain came to Quebec, they quickly took up their free land and built
communities. They were shocked by some of the differences between their new home and the homes
in the United States. They had given up their homeland because of their attachment to the crown. They
recently had been abused by the Patriots who were French rebels fighting the British. Many Loyalists
had fought in the British army and some had lost family members in the conflict. The Loyalists said is
this any way to treat heros, we came here to live in freedom. You gave us French land laws and no
elections . They demanded to change the system, the British government listened. The British agreed
to change the system of the government law. The Constitution Act brought happiness to the Loyalists,

Software Components Of The Hardware Platform Available Essay
Regardless of the hardware platform available, it is the software that makes the hardware do its job.
The software is the piece of the puzzle that turns the hardware into a powerful system capable of
making ideas for how to apply augmented reality into areas of interest come to fruition. There are
software components that are part of the AR infrastructure that is required regardless of the application
being used, there is software specific to the application, and there is software used to create the
content for applications. This section addresses each of these categories of software.
Augmented Reality in Retail Industry From shopping windows to products that come alive in your
hand, the worlds of augmented reality and retail have collided spectacularly in recent years.
The retail landscape is overcrowded and customers are becoming desensitized to traditional marketing
methods. That s where augmented reality comes in. As shoppers turn to a blend of online, mobile, and
bricks and mortar shopping for their convenience, brands and retailers have to think of new and
innovative ways in which they can capture customer attention.
Augmented reality has the power to bring an image, product label or even shop window to life.
Customers can see brands and their stock in a new way and engage with them on a completely new
level.

enable shoppers to visualize how certain pieces of furniture

Examples Of Diction In Night By Elie Wiesel
Night by Elie Wiesel is an autobiography about his experience during the Holocaust when he was
fifteen years old. Elie is fifteen when the tragedy begins. He is taken with his family through many
trials and then is separated from everyone besides his father. They are left with only each other, of
which they are able to confide in and look to for support. The story is told through a series of creative
writing practices. Mr. Wiesel uses strong diction, and syntax as well as a combination of stylistic
devices. This autobiography allows the readers to understand a personal, first hand account of the
terrible events of the holocaust. The ways that diction is used in Night helps with this understanding.
Elie Wiesel uses words that are relevant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Never shall I forget that smoke.
Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a
silent sky.
Never shall I forget those flames that consumed my faith forever.
Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams into
ashes.Never shall I forget these things, even were I condemned to live as long as God himself.
Never. (page 34)
Elie Wiesel has experienced a horrible tragedy. When he repeatedly says over and over Never shall I
forget... he emphasizes his fear of what he has seen. He drills into the reader how traumatized he is.
This creates sympathy and makes the reader feel worse for Mr. Wiesel. Dramatic irony gives the
reader an advantage over the characters. This form of irony is where the reader knows something that
the characters do not. (Poor father! Of what then did you die?) (page 11) During this scene in the book
Elie s father has given the news to the other Jews that they are all required to wear the yellow star. His
father said The yellow star? So what? It s not lethal... (page 11) This is ironic because the star is what
killed nearly all of the Jewish people. Hate killed a countless number of innocent people because of
their beliefs. This is the dramatic Irony. Everything that Elie Wiesel uses to create his autobiography
makes it more that just a page taught

Once upon a time, in the Tall Tree Forest, Danny the Bear and Timothy the Turtle were playing hide

perfect place. Timothy counted down from 15. Then there were 13 seconds. Soon enough, Danny had
10 seconds to hide. Little did he know that his mother was hurdling toward him. The time was up and
Thomas began to seek. Danny was ecstatic. The forest was silent except for Timothy s steps and a

Danny! Oh, Danny!
Yes, Mother?
What have I told you about hanging around that Turtle?

Excuse you, I am the mother and I can do whatever I please.
If I was a bear, you would let us be friends, and I don t see anyone telling you not to be friends with
Mrs. Tiger or the Monkey family.
Mrs. Bear started to turn red and the only thing on her mind was how she was going to respond; but
she didn t.
The next day, the Bear family loaded the last of their boxes onto the moving truck and wiped the tears
from their loved ones. Timothy was sad that they were moving, but he felt satisfied that Mrs. Bear is
allowing Danny to have more friends.

The World s Largest Solar Collectors And Energy Storage...
We have many different kind of energy source in our world and the ocean is a big part of one of
thought energy source. The ocean makes up more than 70% of the Earth s surface and it collects a lot
of sun s heat and energy. This will make it the world s largest solar collectors and energy storage
system and the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) will probably seems like a great tool to
have [7]. This energy source works is by using the solar energy collected from the sun by the ocean
and converting that energy into electric energy. The OTEC uses the warm ocean water that was heated
up from the sun (around 77 degrees Fahrenheit) to vaporize a working fluid with a low boiling point.
The working fluid expands and spins a generator, creating electricity. From there, the vapor is then
cooled down from the cold ocean water (around 41 degrees Fahrenheit) that is pumped up from the
deep parts of the ocean layer. This cause the vapor to turn back into the working fluid from before and
condenses back into a liquid. Because of this, the whole system is reusable and is a continually
electricity generating cycle [7]. This is only one type out of three OTEC systems, known as closed
cycle system. The other two systems will be explain later on in the paper. This paper will explain
different aspects of the OTEC systems, from the different types that are currently being used to the
costs and environmental effect to the pros and cons of the OTEC systems.

And Disadvantages Of A Separate Army
INTRODUCTION
Joint warfare and separate military have their advantages and disadvantages, the benefits of the war
force joining together and forming a separate and single unit.
BENEFITS OF JOINT WARFARE The benefits of joint forces to forming a single unit includes all
the members i.e. service members having the tactical knowledge, understanding and the operational
procedures and capabilities of each unit that will be joint together. They also reduce casualties in
mission that they go to due to the joint understanding of each unit. Joint warfare and units of forces
allows the forces to be able to adapt to new and modern patterns of war. During the war, an
opportunity to grab and have an understanding of the war and the tactics and not just the individual
war departments or unit where they will have different deals and tactics which may in turn not have
any synchronization in the pattern of execution. The joint unit can handle different aspects of war like
the Navy, Air force separately through the air, the military on the ground, and all working at the same
time together will reduce the time of operation and make it faster. Joint forces would also be
advantageous due to the monetary aspects, whereby the monetary systems ... Show more content on

Willy Loman As A Modern Tragedy Analysis
The definition of a modern tragedy is ordinary people in tragic situations. Death of a Salesman the
play by Arthur Miller demonstrates this theme. The main character, Willy Loman, is a salesman who
created his own tragedy. He had a poor moral compass which lead him to make the wrong decisions.
Also, he was unable to recognize his flaws in his personality. Finally, Willy had not in any way
developed the proper coping abilities to help him handle his problems properly. Willy was living a
modern tragedy due to nothing other than his moral weaknesses, tragic flaws and his inability to cope
with unfavourable circumstances.
Willy had a poor moral compass. He knew right from wrong yet he always acted on the wrong
decision. For 32 years Linda and Willy were married and Willy still cheated on her. When in a
marriage cheating is one of the worst deeds a person could do. Considering that a marriage binds the
bond of love between 2 people until the death. Cheating in a relationship can happen in many types of
forms. Willy cheated in a physical way. She s nothing to me, Biff I was lonely, I was terribly lonely
(Miller 95) When Willy used to go on business trips in Boston he acquired a mistress. He thought that
no one would find out. When Biff knew that he wasn t going to graduate high school because he failed
a math test he wanted to tell Willy in person. Biff surprised Willy at the hotel he was staying in.

The Battle Of Little Bighorn
I chose the battle of little bighorn because I enjoy learning about Native Americans. I find interest in
their beliefs and lifestyles. Take Sitting Bull, for instance, he was one of the main parts in the Battle of
Little Bighorn. He had a great distrust of the white man, he resented them and fought to go against
their domination. When he was a young man he was chosen to be the leader of the Strong Heart
Society. He was a tribal leader and helped extend the Sioux hunting grounds. Sitting Bull also joined
his first war party at the age of 14 and this helped him gain the reputation of bravery in war. The
majority of Sitting Bull s life was involved around the struggles against the expanding of the United
States. Sitting Bull s defense of his land was rooted in history and his culture. At a Sun Dance
ceremony, where a group of Native Americans set up a village, Sitting Bull danced for 36 hours,
slashed his arms for sacrifice, and deprived himself from drinking water because he believed that he
was living for the well being of his people. After his ceremony he claimed that he had saw a vision of
the American army being defeated. The Battle of Little Bighorn was a legendary battle fought between
the Sioux and Cheyenne tribes against General Custer and the 7th Cavalry. The Indians were outraged
as white men tried to take over their sacred land in the Black Hills. The leader of this was George
Armstrong Custer, a man with great ambitions. He set his sights on the

What Does Peter Pan Mean
Peter Pan Literary Analysis Conceptualize having to live without a mother or a role model. This is
what life was like for the lost boys ever since they fell out of their baby carriages and were never
found again. In Peter Pan, by J.M. Barrie, Peter and the lost boys spent their lives in Neverland
without a mother or an adult role model. This is why they took Wendy Darling in as their mother. This
was a substantial point throughout the book which can be identified through the theme: loving mothers
are important for individuals to have. Obviously, people can have other role models in their lives to
thrive, but the term mother is seen specifically in Peter Pan. Loving mothers are important for an
individual to have was seen through the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All throughout the book every person wanted to be loved by a mother, and had lived their lives with a
modicum amount of love. This was shown when Peter talks about how he believes his mother
betrayed him by shutting the window after he had run away because he didn t want to grow up. After
Peter arrives in Neverland, Peter wants Wendy in his life because she is the closest thing to a mother
that he has without having to grow up. When Peter saw Mrs. Darling he states, I m fond of her too. We
can t both have her, lady. Further explaining how Peter loved having Wendy as his mother. The pirates
also admitted that they wanted a mother to love and care for them. When Wendy is captured and tied
up by the pirates, the pirate Smee states, I ll save you if you promise to be my mother. The pirates
wanted to be loved by a mother even though they seemed tough and evil. This can also be seen when
Wendy, her brothers, and the lost boys decide to return home to the Darlings. Wendy and her brothers
miss their loving mother and decide to take the lost boys back with them, hoping that their mother still
loves them and the window will still be open. Mrs. Darling saturninity states, The window must
always be left open for them, always, always. Mrs. Darling s love for her children never ebbed. She
left the window, lingering open as long as possible to show that she cared for them in case they ever
flew back. Finally, when all the children were secured in their home Mr. and Mrs. Darling were
ecstatic, and were delighted to take in lost boys into their home. It says, They stood in a row in front
of Mrs. Darling, with their hats off, and wishing they were not wearing their pirate clothes. They said
nothing, but their eyes asked her to have them. ...of course Mrs. Darling said at once that she would

Following the Nicene Council, the debate continued, including
discussions about the Holy Spirit. Eventually, Theodosius (the new Roman emperor), called a
second council, which was held in Constantinople. The council affirmed the view of the earlier
Nicene Council that Jesus is fully divine, eternal, not created. Moreover, the council accepted the
full divinity of the Holy Spirit, teaching that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy
Spirit is God, yet there is only one God. The Nicene Creed (as translated by the International
Consultation on English Texts, 1975) reads as follows:
We believe in our God the Father, the Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and of all that is, seen
and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from
God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by
the power of the Holy Spirit he become incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our
sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose
again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the
Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no

The Face Of Education And The Changes It Has Undertaken...
The face of education and the changes it has undertaken throughout history in the U.S. is a constant
flow that thus alters the fabric of the American society. To provide an educated workforce for the
future has been the job of educators for centuries, but with a greater immigration movement and
presence, an educator s ability is limited and the fate of such children are left to suffer. Pulling from
America s position as a melting pot of different cultures and people, students should not be subjugated
to poverty and educational ignorance just because of their status as an illegal immigrant, a distinction
made by the choices of their parents and the situations of their past. Illegal immigration is not by
choice to intrude upon another nation, but to secure the individual s rights to better their own life.
Through distance and set conditions, immigrants cannot always obtain the documentation necessary to
cross borders in a timely manner, causing many to cross the border into a new life without being legal.
Upon arriving, the next step is education, preparing to try to fit in with the rest of the society and gain
a stepping stone into success, thus the shift of acceptance in education during the Plyler vs. Doe
Supreme Court case was fundamental to attain change and support for illegal immigrant families.
From the late 1700 s, just after the establishment of the U.S., immigration has been a problem as it
allowed the mixing of multiple cultures and ethnicities in a single

Foreign Aid Effects
The act of cutting spending from other sectors could potentially have a negative impact on the national
security of the United States. One of the most important sectors outside of defense spending related to
boosting the strength of national security is foreign aid. Foreign aid has been used as a tool by the
United States to stabilize weak states and build alliances with states that could potentially become
dangerous adversaries in the future. One of the most significant historic examples of foreign aid was

My Key Point For Success
Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. There is different techniques people
use to make sure they reach success. I have read some stories that all have dealt with someone aiming
for success. The stories I read are A Right To Choose Single Sex Education, Next Term, We ll Mash
You, Raising Smart Kids, A Walk To The Jetty, and ILE. There are four techniques I use to be
successful. The first is knowing my strengths and weaknesses. The second thing I do to reach success
is focusing on myself and not on others or what is going on around me. Another technique for myself
to be successful is to keep in mind what I really want and working towards my goals. My last key

Another thing to reach success is to focus on myself and not what is going on around me. When I was

everything felt too hard for me. Even though I have brothers, they weren t much of a help when it

different mindsets people can have. One of them was a growth mindset and the other was a fixed

As a multinational corporation, the implication of the scandal determines the fate of numerous

though the scandal was global, European consumers were the most affected with diesel cars

such as subsidies towards the production process resulting in lower premiums compared to petrol

The White Bollywood
From Raja Harishchandra (1913) to The Good Road (2013), the cinema of India, an extremely
important part of our cultural identity celebrating its centenary this year. Has been working as an
ambassador of India to a global audience since the day of its inception. In India, it is often seen that
films made in Hindi targeted at a larger audience, commonly known as mainstream movies or
Bollywood films, employ a different grammar of filmmaking than that is used in so called sensible or

If Hollywood has techniques that permit its fictional world to appear internally coherent and invisibly
put together, Indian films are orchestrated by another sensibility of coherence and reality (Jaikumar
25). This another sense of coherence and reality often plays a vital role in the portrayal of characters
belonging to different ethnic backgrounds in the mainstream Bollywood flicks. The reason why non
Indian characters from the subcontinent, i.e. the Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Nepalese, Bhutanese,
Afghans or Sri Lankans are not being considered in this discussion is that the socio cultural gap
between India and her neighbouring countries are relatively less and how they are portrayed in
Bollywood films demands a new discussion altogether due to extremely convoluted bilateral or
multilateral political, social and historical relationships between India and any of these countries.
Unlike the Hollywood, where in the 1930s, white actors had to play Asian roles by putting on extra

Market Structure Of An Economics Perspective Essay
Introduction
Market structure from an economics perspective is defined as the characteristics of the market that
impacts the behavior or way firms operate, which economists use to determine the nature of
competition, and pricing tactics of businesses in the market. Within a market, the market structures are
distinguished by key features, including the number of sellers, homogeneous or differentiated goods or
services produced, pricing power, level of competition, barriers to entering or exit the markets,
efficiency, and profits. The interaction and differences among these features resulted in four market
structures of competition: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly.
Economist assembled the four market structures into two groups; perfectly competitive market and
imperfectly competitive market, which are vastly distinct when it come to the different market
competitions that need to be satisfied.
A major issue for existing firms in some market structures is the entry of new competitors, and this is
because of the potentially unfavorable effects new participants might have on the market s real
revenue and profits. Entry barriers are specifically designed to prevent new competitors from entering
a profitable market freely. Based on the level of barriers, it can be relatively easy or difficult for new
firms to enter the market. Therefore, high entry barriers may have a positive or negative influence a
firm s long run profitability, cost

Opioid Tolerance Research
Biological Mechanisms
The biological mechanisms underpinning the effects of opioid tolerance on local anaesthetic
effectiveness are complicated. It is simpler to consider the effects of local anaesthetics on the body
and the effects of opioid tolerance separately.
When neurons in the body are stimulated they send signals, in the form of action potentials, to the
brain relaying messages. These tell the body how to respond. This is why, for example, the body
recognises a feeling of pain when it is wounded. During this stimulation, there occurs an opening of
activation gates of voltage sensitive sodium channels. This allows sodium to enter the cell, reducing
the cell s negative charge. When a full action potential is generated, there ... Show more content on

The onset of a state of total anaesthesia was measured, along with the amount required to induce such
a state. Researchers found there was a significant increase in the time required to reach total
anaesthesia for opioid tolerant patients. Further, the amount of local anaesthesia required to reach this
state was significantly higher for opioid tolerant patients than for non opioid tolerant patients.
Biological mechanisms suggested to explain this phenomenon included a change in function and
concentration of the opioid receptors in opioid tolerant patients. Similar to the first experiment
mentioned above, the study found the desensitisation of opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord
caused by tolerance to opioids further inhibited the progression of action potentials, resulting in the
need for an increased dosage of local anaesthetic to reach the same level of

Sports Betting Scandal
Sports Betting Scandal Since their very beginning, sports have been immersed in society and often
times gambled on. This gambling increased with the rising popularity of college sports, and came to
the forefront through scandals involving illegal betting and point shaving. One such scandal occurred
just down the road from St. Francis de Sales High School at the University of Toledo. In between the
fall of 2003 and winter of 2006, two gamblers from Detroit bribed athletes from both the University of
Toledo basketball and football teams to shave points while they placed bets totaling $407,500 on the
games. The two gamblers involved were Ghazi Gary Manni and Mitchell Karam, Detroit businessmen
who had previously been involved in illegal schemes. The four UT basketball players that were bribed
and shaved points were Sammy Villegas, Anton Currie, Keith Triplett, and Kashif Payne. The three ...

70 month sentence. All seven of the athletes involved ended up taking guilty pleas. I think these
consequences were justified and fair for the crimes the players and gamblers committed, although
Manni s could have been more lengthy. This scandal helped bring awareness back to illegal betting in
college sports, which many thought had died down. Specifically, this scandal hurt the image of UT
and their athletic programs, but through their investigation they found no other immoral or illegal

A Close Reading Of The Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
A close reading of the Sir Gawain and the Green Knight reveals a very antifeminist view. The poem,
told in four parts, tells of common medieval folklore. The stories seem to be of different plotlines, but
start to intersect in interesting ways that is, the character of Morgan Le Fay begins to frame the stories
together. The half sister of King Arthur, she holds intense hatred for her half brother and his court. It is
her thirst for the downfall of Camelot that makes this character infamous, and, surprisingly, her
success and the strength of her ability that give a bad name to women. Through the examination of
Morgan Le Fay s character, it is clear that a successful woman is always an illusion.
The text blames women for the downfall of men, of society, of common order. It paints the picture that
women are manipulative and that this is how they succeed. This idea first begins with Morgan Le Fay
s appearance early on, where she is not named. Instead, she is described as an ugly old woman and
cast aside until her true power is spoken of almost two thousand lines later. The effect of this
mysterious but harmless introduction, as well as her absence throughout most of the story, leads to her
impression as a manipulative character. It says that the most dangerous women are those who one
would least expect, and that they are always there, always watching, lying undetected and creating
mischief. Later in the story, right before Morgan Le Fay is introduced by name, is a short

courtroom. The attorneys seemed to come and go as they pleased, with no deference or respect for the
proceedings in session.
The first case that was presented involved a man that was currently incarcerated in the Vanderburgh
County jail. The inmate was able to plead his case, telling the judge that he was not able to work
because he was injured, and therefore had no income to pay for child support. After looking at the past
payments the inmate made through the court, it revealed that before he was incarcerated he had made
one payment to the child s mother. He claimed that he was out of work because he had broken his leg,
but failed to provide an statements from his employer stating he was either let go or not able to work
because of an injury. All payments had stopped for whatever reason. The judge found the inmate in
contempt of court for failure to obey a court order. He could not prove to the judge that he deliberately
disobey the court s order to pay child support. In the end, the judge found him irresponsible and
sentenced him to 90 days in jail along with a $1000 fine. After he was sentenced, he was escorted out
of the front of the courtroom by the bailiff.

American With Disabilities Act Into Law
More than fifty six million Americans have one or more physical disabilities. Many of these
individuals are physically able to partake in everyday activities, yet they are excluded from these
opportunities (Crockett). People with disabilities are intentionally isolated by society due to a
stereotypical assumption of their lack of abilities to participate and contribute (Harris 368). They are
viewed as objects of pity, who are unable to work, go to school, or live on their own (Crockett). Ed
Roberts, an individual with a disability, clearly states, [we] are considered the weakest, the most
helpless people in our society, [but] are the strongest, and will not tolerate segregation, [and] will not
tolerate a society which sees us as less than whole people (Laney 21). He wants to reshape the image
that society has on them and prove that people with disabilities are just as capable as everyone else.
George H.W. Bush signed the American with Disabilities Act into law on July 26, 1990. (The
Americans with Disabilities Act: A Brief overview). Bush knew that the act was powerful in its
simplicity and that it would ensure that people with disabilities [were] given the basic guarantees for
which they have worked so long and hard (Americans with Disabilities Act, Medicine 3). The goal
was to help people with disabilities live the American Dream and be identified by their potential and
not their inadequacies (Rodgers 2). Since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into

The Renaissance is studded by the names of the artists and architects, with their creations recorded as

The end of the 14th century was the birth of Renaissance, which meant that Gothic architecture began
to wear off. The Renaissance period spread out across Europe. Along with the changes in politics,
beliefs, and ways of life, architecture and architects were also changing. A group of Italian academics,
some of whom were amateur architects, influenced the birth of Renaissance architecture. Many

The architects of this period solved the problems of heavy roof with few brilliant innovations such as
the flying buttress (a semi arch), piers, etc. The result was amazing: cathedrals could be higher,
thinner, and could have more windows, which led to brighter interiors. In my opinion, this was a good
base to start producing something more magnificent, more interesting, and other types of architecture,
besides just cathedrals.
Architects of the Renaissance period designed a large spectrum of civil structures like palaces,
libraries, villas, fountains, hospitals, bridges, etc. They built urban spaces which looked magnificent
and also a little frightening. The facade gives us a hint of what is happening inside: an enormous
central door indicates power, stonework shows strength, marble shows wealth, and so on. One of the
most recognizable features of Renaissance buildings is elegant interior courtyards surrounded by two
tiers of rounded arcades. One such example of a Renaissance building is the Florence cathedral,

Survey of Cognitive Remediation Practices for Individuals with Schizophrenia: Implementation and

Schizophrenia is a severe and chronic mental illness characterized by substantial cognitive, emotional
and perceptual deficits. The symptoms and dysfunctions of schizophrenia manifest themselves in
varying states of severity across individuals but are often associated with high rates of mortality,
substance abuse, and co morbidity with other mental disorders. In addition to earlier mortality rates
(Crump, Winkleby, Sundquist Sundquist, 2013), symptoms of schizophrenia often interfere with one s
ability to function and perform daily tasks. Cognitive impairment (CI) has specifically been identified
as a critical barrier to functional recovery for individuals and as a result, cognitive remediation (CR)
programs are increasingly employed as treatment interventions to address these issues. Empirical
support for the benefits of CR on cognition in schizophrenia is growing; however, the best

What Is The Theme Of Bread By Sandra Cisneros
BREAD SANDRA CISNEROS I question whether these two people in the story are having an affair,

bread is much like their relationship, actually exactly like it. We were hungry. We went into a Bakery

sourdough loaves shaped like a fat ass (Cisneros 84). It was an affair. They were lusting each other
and finally have to give in and it is Grand, like the Avenue, it fills the backseat, and the whole car
smells of it. Comparing the bread to an ass also takes on a sexual tone. We ripped big chunks with our

a bible story about Jesus forgiving an adulteress. The emotions run very high as the individual s facial
expressions are locked in surprise and anger. Anger towards the woman and utter shock as to Jesus
forgiveness and compassionate heart towards her. Showing Christ bending down to write in the sand
as the pharisees behind him are appalled at what he has to say. He who does not sin may throw the
first stone John 8:7. This reflects reaction to Mannerism, but also the social turmoil of the time.
According to the Council of Trent and the Catholic church artworks should be a clear, intelligible
subject realistically interpreted in order to stimulate piety. This was part of the reason that the artwork
turned towards naturalism, becoming emotionally engaging and intense. This is similar to a
renaissance painting The Rest on the Flight into Egypt with St. John the baptist by Fra Bartolommeo
composed about 1509. This piece on the contrary is

Essay on Orgon s Incompetence in Tartuffe
Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere s Tartuffe is an epic play of hypocrisy, betrayal, and the tale of a
foolish mind. Moliere s choice of protagonist in this play happens to be the most blatantly ignorant
character in the play. Orgon is naive to the villain Tartuffe s hypocritical ways, makes a complete
dunce of himself by uplifting Tartuffe as holy, and failing to pick up the abundance of clues of Tartuffe
being fake. Analyzing this character is rather interesting and at the same time frustrating to read of
someone so ignorant that they fail to see the wolf hiding under the sheep clothing. A fool is a fool
unless they open their eyes to see the truth, and it took Orgon the majority of the play to realize the
truth.
Orgon s ignorance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orgon s family and friends believed by now that there was no hope in helping him realize the deceit
that was going on right under his nose. Orgon decided that giving his daughter to Tartuffe would be
the ultimate gift, and hearing this Elmire decided that it best to try to reason with Tartuffe to make
Orgon keep his promise to Valere with his daughters hand in marriage. Orgon s character is drawn as
that of being naive and ignorant, and displays this when he refers to Tartuffe as blood and tells the
story of Tartuffe when he first met him with him asking for money, and then saying he only needed a
little not the large amount Orgon gave. nd how austere he is! Why, he can detect a moral sin where
you would least suspect. (Moliere 26). In Elmire and Tartuffe s meeting Damis hiding behind the
curtains hears the foul confessions of the holy one s love for Elmire and decides to come our and catch
him. Damis tells Orgon of Tartuffe s confessions and the manipulator that Tartuffe is convinces Orgon
that is just a plot against him. Orgon as angry as he is makes a stupid mistake This very day, I ll give
to you alone Clear deed and title to everything I own (Moliere 48). This mistake alone cost Orgon his
son, and his family s support. Elmire s plan to call out Tartuffe one more time in front of Orgon to
show there was a wolf among them worked, and Tartuffe showed his true colors for Elmire by asking
for acts of true caring if her feelings were true for him made

Comparing Eisenstein And Vertov And Two Filmmakers And...
Eisenstein and Vertov are two filmmakers/theorists that made films to illustrate and emphasize their
film theories. One of Eisenstein s theories is that film should have a dialectic approach to create
conflict. Furthermore, he states that conflict will spark active thinking in the spectator s mind. Another
theory from Eisenstein is the methods of montage. There are five methods, but the one he highlights
the most is the intellectual montage, which helps create an idea through juxtaposition to make the
audience think about the film and social issues. In comparison, one of Vertov theories states that film
is like a medium of movement. Furthermore, he explains the movement is required to create montage
and bring shots together in harmony. Another theory from Vertov emphasizes the camera eye. He
explains how the camera can show the truths of the world better than the human eye. In summary
Eisenstein demonstrates his theory of conflict and intellectual montage in October (1928) and The
Battleship Potemkin (1925). Plus, both films get the audience to think about life and society. In
comparison Vertov displays his theories of movement to create montage and the importance of the
camera eye in The Man with the Movie Camera (1929) to illustrate cinema as a whole and show the
power of the camera eye. To conclude, both Eisenstein and Vertov are able to effectively display their
theories in film. Eisenstein theory about creating conflict between shots is explicitly illustrated in his

Verbal Analysis On Non Verbal Communication
Whilst verbal communication is valuable in successful interactions with others, understanding and
interpreting non verbal elements of communication, such as body language, is equally as important.
As a paramedic, deciphering the non verbal context of the message being expressed can allow the
clinician to identify the emotional state of the person seeking assistance. It has been suggested that an
astonishing 93% of a perceived message is derived from non verbal cues leaving a mere 7% of
message analysis stemming from the actual choice in vocabulary (Borg, 2009). Non verbal
communication transpires continually, many cues are preformed obliviously as unconscious
manifestations of an individual s state of mind; a person can unintentionally appear stressed, anxious,
happy or sad as a result of their thoughts and feelings, consequently it is difficult to have total
conscious control over these non verbal cues being presented (Hartley, 1999). The only way to gain
awareness of these unconscious non verbal behaviours is when someone else brings them to our
attention; this is taking into consideration as a Paramedic who appears concerned may inadvertently
cause unnecessary worry to a patient (Taylor, 2010). Other instinctive forms of non verbal
communication can transpire accidentally which may be illustrate the individual as unprofessional and
through poor communication, for example, defensive body language, such as arm crossing your arms
when it s cold may be perceived by a

Lee Jun Fan s Life and Accomplishments
Lee Jun Fan, more commonly known as Bruce Lee, was born November 27th, 1940, in San Francisco,
California. During this time it was the hour and year of the Dragon, in San Francisco s Chinatown.
Bruce was the fourth child of Lee Hoi Chuen and Grace Ho. Lee Hoi Chuen, Bruce s father, was a
comedic actor in the Chinese opera. Chuen and his wife were on tour in America with the opera
company when Bruce was born. At three months old, Bruce and his family returned to Hong Kong.
On the way back, Bruce became weak from the change in climates and the long ocean trip. From a
young age, Bruce had already appeared in many films as a child actor, studied dance, and wrote
poetry. While in middle school, Bruce would be taunted by English boys in ... Show more content on

One of Bruce s students, Linda Garfield, was a freshman at the University of Washington, later
married Bruce in 1964. Linda and Bruce moved to Oakland, California to open another school,
leaving the Seattle institute with friend Taky Kimura. While teaching gung fu in California, Bruce set
to improve by expanding his knowledge of other styles. In 1964, Bruce s self exploration was delayed
by a challenge from other gung fu teachers from San Francisco. These teachers didn t like that Bruce
was teaching non Chinese people. The terms of the challenge were if Bruce lost, he would stop
teaching non Chinese. Bruce won the fight in three minutes, but was disappointed in himself, for
taking so long and being exhausted. This is the point where Bruce turned in his self exploration in
martial arts and physical fitness, bringing the evolution of Jeet Kune Do. In earlier years, Bruce
became friends with Ed Parker, the man regarded as the starter of American Kenpo. Bruce was invited
by Parker in August of 1964, to Long Beach, California, for Parker s First International Karate
Tournament to give a demonstration. Bruce demonstrated blindfolded chi sao techniques, and his one
inch punch. A well known hair stylist, Jay Sebring, was in the audience that day of the First
International Karate Tournament and saw Bruce s performance. Later, Jay was giving a haircut to

Summary Of Tessa s Impostor
(HOOK) In Impostor by Susanne Winnacker, sixteen year old Tessa was classified to be a Variant that
worked with a section of the F.B.I called the Forces with Extraordinary Abilities, which combated
terrorism. Variants were individuals that had abnormal body abilities. Therefore, Tessa was assigned to
morph into a teenage victim of a murder case named Madison Chambers in Livingston, Oregon. After
Madison officially passed away, Tessa lived with the Chambers and attended the females former high
school to collect evidence to catch the serial killer of four murders. Meanwhile, Tessa s boss, Major
and Tessa s coworker, Alec, were suspicious of Devon, who was Madison s twin brother. However,
Tessa was attentive towards Madison s prior boyfriend named Ryan, who struggled with anger issues
and was in abusive relationships. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, her research depicted that fog would be created at each crime scene. Furthermore, when
Tessa followed Devon to an abandoned house, she found him stabbed by Ryan that claimed he wanted
revenge on Madison for ending their relationship. While Tessa battled with Ryan s Variation, Devon
healed Tessa with his Variation. Ultimately, the Forces with Extraordinary Abilities concluded that
Ryan urged to be a portion of Abel s Army that conducted rebellions and would constantly plan to kill
Tessa s real identity. Therefore, the theme was to trust your personal judgments because they could
greatly influence the people in your surroundings. Susanne Winnacker supported this message when
she incorporated the effects of Tessa s decision to join the Forces with Extraordinary Abilities rather
than Abel s Army, Tessa s transformation into Madison, and Tessa s categorization of the victims,
suspects, and the disguised

Queer Representation Of All Age Media Essay
Queer Representation in All Age Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s
and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media
I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in
hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something
negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected
exactly how homosexuality was portrayed in media at the time. Queer characters and homosexuality
were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst,
something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly reads comics, watches
Saturday morning cartoons and play video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of progress
that has been made in queer representation in all age media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and
lows of LGBTQ representation in all age media and highlight the positive and negative impact of
media representation. Before we can look forward, we must look back at queer representation of the
past. The late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly researched the evolution of queer representation
in cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet. In both the book and its documentary of the
same name, Russo details the earliest portrayal of homosexuality in

Communication Skills For Effective Communication
Criteria:
Based on your examples from each principle of effective communication (General, Interpersonal and
Written), describe the potential barriers (problems) to effective communication in the presentation, as
well. Remember to state the problem and then how this can affect communication.
Introduction
I am going to describe how communication skills are used effectively in the presentation.
General Communication Skills
General communication skills are a way of expression or exchanging ideas and thoughts between
people. We can use the different techniques of communication skills such as cultural differences,
adapting to audience, format of the language, accuracy of the related topic, engaging an audience and
be aware of the time zone. All these skills should be properly used between each others.
Cultural differences
It is known that cultural differences exist between people with different national traditions, languages
and religions. People may behave according to their own beliefs and this may look unusual. People
may misunderstand each other. For example Scottish and English have different accents. The words
are pronounced with a different dialect.
Other countries may have to use different meanings of the same hand gestures during the presentation.
For example same hand gestures can have a lot of different meaning in countries as United States of
America means OK, Japan means money, Russia means zero and in Brazil you can insult someone.
Adapting

Coming Of Age In Mississippi Analysis In the chapter Coming of Age in Mississippi; Anne Moody had always heard about so many people shot dead floating down the river but she never really knew why. She overheard a little about Emmett Till s death as her and her friends were following behind a group of boy s on their way home from school. She thought they were unusually quiet until they started shouting about a fourteen year old boy that got killed by white men because he whistled at her. Mrs. Burke also asked her about the boy and told her, He was killed because he got out of his place with a white woman. Her mother knew better, she knew that Anne would be in big trouble if she said anything to Mrs. Burke about what happened. I guess back then, staying quiet and acting like you don t know anything is better than disappearing. According to Mrs. Burke, Emmett Till had to die because he was a very disrespectful boy that got out of his place with a white woman. He was from up North so she said that the Negro men were more disrespectful up north than there in the south. • 11. The World s Largest Solar Collectors And Energy Storage... We have many different kind of energy source in our world and the ocean is a big part of one of thought energy source. The ocean makes up more than 70% of the Earth s surface and it collects a lot of sun s heat and energy. This will make it the world s largest solar collectors and energy storage system and the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) will probably seems like a great tool to have [7]. This energy source works is by using the solar energy collected from the sun by the ocean and converting that energy into electric energy. The OTEC uses the warm ocean water that was heated up from the sun (around 77 degrees Fahrenheit) to vaporize a working fluid with a low boiling point. The working fluid expands and spins a generator, creating electricity. From there, the vapor is then cooled down from the cold ocean water (around 41 degrees Fahrenheit) that is pumped up from the deep parts of the ocean layer. This cause the vapor to turn back into the working fluid from before and condenses back into a liquid. Because of this, the whole system is reusable and is a continually electricity generating cycle [7]. This is only one type out of three OTEC systems, known as closed cycle system. The other two systems will be explain later on in the paper. This paper will explain different aspects of the OTEC systems, from the different types that are currently being used to the costs and environmental effect to the pros and cons of the OTEC systems. The face of education and the changes it has undertaken throughout history in the U.S. is a constant flow that thus alters the fabric of the American society. To provide an educated workforce for the future has been the job of educators for centuries, but with a greater immigration movement and presence, an educator s ability is limited and the fate of such children are left to suffer. Pulling from America s position as a melting pot of different cultures and people, students should not be subjugated to poverty and educational ignorance just because of their status as an illegal immigrant, a distinction made by the choices of their parents and the situations of their past. Illegal immigration is not by choice to intrude upon another nation, but to secure the individual s rights to better their own life. Through distance and set conditions, immigrants cannot always obtain the documentation necessary to cross borders in a timely manner, causing many to cross the border into a new life without being legal. Has been working as an ambassador of India to a global audience since the day of its inception. In India, it is often seen that films made in Hindi targeted at a larger audience, commonly known as mainstream movies or Bollywood films, employ a different grammar of filmmaking than that is used in so called sensible or parallel cinema while representing or portraying different aspects and sections of society, race, culture, gender and class. If Hollywood has techniques that permit its fictional world to appear internally coherent and invisibly put together, Indian films are orchestrated by another sensibility of coherence and reality (Jaikumar 25). This another sense of coherence and reality often plays a vital role in the portrayal of characters belonging to different ethnic backgrounds in the mainstream Bollywood flicks. The reason why non Indian characters from the subcontinent, i.e. the Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Nepalese, Bhutanese, Afghans or Sri Lankans are not being considered in this discussion is that the socio cultural gap between India and her neighbouring countries are relatively less and how they are portrayed in Bollywood films demands a new discussion altogether due to extremely convoluted bilateral or multilateral political, social and historical relationships between India and any of these countries. Unlike the Hollywood, where in the 1930s, white actors had to play Asian roles by putting on extra make up, Hindi films had white actors playing white characters. • 26. Market Structure Of An Economics Perspective Essay Introduction Market structure from an economics perspective is defined as the characteristics of the market that impacts the behavior or way firms operate, which economists use to determine the nature of competition, and pricing tactics of businesses in the market. Within a market, the market structures are distinguished by key features, including the number of sellers, homogeneous or differentiated goods or services produced, pricing power, level of competition, barriers to entering or exit the markets, efficiency, and profits. The interaction and differences among these features resulted in four market structures of competition: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Economist assembled the four market structures into two groups; perfectly competitive market and imperfectly competitive market, which are vastly distinct when it come to the different market competitions that need to be satisfied. A major issue for existing firms in some market structures is the entry of new competitors, and this is because of the potentially unfavorable effects new participants might have on the market s real revenue and profits. Entry barriers are specifically designed to prevent new competitors from entering a profitable market freely. Based on the level of barriers, it can be relatively easy or difficult for new firms to enter the market. Therefore, high entry barriers may have a positive or negative influence a firm s long run profitability, cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Opioid Tolerance Research Biological Mechanisms The biological mechanisms underpinning the effects of opioid tolerance on local anaesthetic effectiveness are complicated. It is simpler to consider the effects of local anaesthetics on the body and the effects of opioid tolerance separately. When neurons in the body are stimulated they send signals, in the form of action potentials, to the brain relaying messages. These tell the body how to respond. This is why, for example, the body recognises a feeling of pain when it is wounded. During this stimulation, there occurs an opening of activation gates of voltage sensitive sodium channels. This allows sodium to enter the cell, reducing the cell s negative charge. When a full action potential is generated, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers found there was a significant increase in the time required to reach total anaesthesia for opioid tolerant patients. Further, the amount of local anaesthesia required to reach this state was significantly higher for opioid tolerant patients than for non opioid tolerant patients. Biological mechanisms suggested to explain this phenomenon included a change in function and concentration of the opioid receptors in opioid tolerant patients. Similar to the first experiment mentioned above, the study found the desensitisation of opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord caused by tolerance to opioids further inhibited the progression of action potentials, resulting in the need for an increased dosage of local anaesthetic to reach the same level of ... • 30. A Close Reading Of The Sir Gawain And The Green Knight A close reading of the Sir Gawain and the Green Knight reveals a very antifeminist view. The poem, told in four parts, tells of common medieval folklore. The stories seem to be of different plotlines, but start to intersect in interesting ways that is, the character of Morgan Le Fay begins to frame the stories together. The half sister of King Arthur, she holds intense hatred for her half brother and his court. It is her thirst for the downfall of Camelot that makes this character infamous, and, surprisingly, her success and the strength of her ability that give a bad name to women. Through the examination of Morgan Le Fay s character, it is clear that a successful woman is always an illusion. The text blames women for the downfall of men, of society, of common order. It paints the picture that women are manipulative and that this is how they succeed. This idea first begins with Morgan Le Fay s appearance early on, where she is not named. Instead, she is described as an ugly old woman and cast aside until her true power is spoken of almost two thousand lines later. The effect of this mysterious but harmless introduction, as well as her absence throughout most of the story, leads to her impression as a manipulative character. It says that the most dangerous women are those who one would least expect, and that they are always there, always watching, lying undetected and creating mischief. • 33. American With Disabilities Act Into Law More than fifty six million Americans have one or more physical disabilities. Many of these individuals are physically able to partake in everyday activities, yet they are excluded from these opportunities (Crockett). People with disabilities are intentionally isolated by society due to a stereotypical assumption of their lack of abilities to participate and contribute (Harris 368). They are viewed as objects of pity, who are unable to work, go to school, or live on their own (Crockett). Ed Roberts, an individual with a disability, clearly states, [we] are considered the weakest, the most helpless people in our society, [but] are the strongest, and will not tolerate segregation, [and] will not tolerate a society which sees us as less than whole people (Laney 21). Bush knew that the act was powerful in its simplicity and that it would ensure that people with disabilities [were] given the basic guarantees for which they have worked so long and hard (Americans with Disabilities Act, Medicine 3). One of Eisenstein s theories is that film should have a dialectic approach to create conflict. Furthermore, he states that conflict will spark active thinking in the spectator s mind. Another theory from Eisenstein is the methods of montage. There are five methods, but the one he highlights the most is the intellectual montage, which helps create an idea through juxtaposition to make the audience think about the film and social issues. In comparison, one of Vertov theories states that film is like a medium of movement. Furthermore, he explains the movement is required to create montage and bring shots together in harmony. Another theory from Vertov emphasizes the camera eye. He explains how the camera can show the truths of the world better than the human eye. In summary Eisenstein demonstrates his theory of conflict and intellectual montage in October (1928) and The Battleship Potemkin (1925). Plus, both films get the audience to think about life and society. In comparison Vertov displays his theories of movement to create montage and the importance of the camera eye in The Man with the Movie Camera (1929) to illustrate cinema as a whole and show the power of the camera eye. Verbal Analysis On Non Verbal Communication Whilst verbal communication is valuable in successful interactions with others, understanding and interpreting non verbal elements of communication, such as body language, is equally as important. As a paramedic, deciphering the non verbal context of the message being expressed can allow the clinician to identify the emotional state of the person seeking assistance. It has been suggested that an astonishing 93% of a perceived message is derived from non verbal cues leaving a mere 7% of message analysis stemming from the actual choice in vocabulary (Borg, 2009). Non verbal communication transpires continually, many cues are preformed obliviously as unconscious manifestations of an individual s state of mind; a person can unintentionally appear stressed, anxious, happy or sad as a result of their thoughts and feelings, consequently it is difficult to have total conscious control over these non verbal cues being presented (Hartley, 1999). The only way to gain awareness of these unconscious non verbal behaviours is when someone else brings them to our attention; this is taking into consideration as a Paramedic who appears concerned may inadvertently cause unnecessary worry to a patient (Taylor, 2010). Other instinctive forms of non verbal communication can transpire accidentally which may be illustrate the individual as unprofessional and through poor communication, for example, defensive body language, such as arm crossing your arms when it s cold may be perceived by a ... At three months old, Bruce and his family returned to Hong Kong. On the way back, Bruce became weak from the change in climates and the long ocean trip. Linda and Bruce moved to Oakland, California to open another school, leaving the Seattle institute with friend Taky Kimura. While teaching gung fu in California, Bruce set to improve by expanding his knowledge of other styles. In 1964, Bruce s self exploration was delayed by a challenge from other gung fu teachers from San Francisco. These teachers didn t like that Bruce was teaching non Chinese people. The terms of the challenge were if Bruce lost, he would stop teaching non Chinese. Bruce won the fight in three minutes, but was disappointed in himself, for taking so long and being exhausted. This is the point where Bruce turned in his self exploration in martial arts and physical fitness, bringing the evolution of Jeet Kune Do. In earlier years, Bruce became friends with Ed Parker, the man regarded as the starter of American Kenpo. Bruce was invited by Parker in August of 1964, to Long Beach, California, for Parker s First International Karate Tournament to give a demonstration. Bruce demonstrated blindfolded chi sao techniques, and his one inch punch. • 46. Queer Representation Of All Age Media Essay Queer Representation in All Age Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected exactly how homosexuality was portrayed in media at the time. Queer characters and homosexuality were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst, something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly reads comics, watches Saturday morning cartoons and play video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of progress that has been made in queer representation in all age media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all age media and highlight the positive and negative impact of media representation. Before we can look forward, we must look back at queer representation of the past. The late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly researched the evolution of queer representation in cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet. In both the book and its documentary of the same name, Russo details the earliest portrayal of homosexuality in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Communication Skills For Effective Communication Criteria: Based on your examples from each principle of effective communication (General, Interpersonal and Written), describe the potential barriers (problems) to effective communication in the presentation, as well. Remember to state the problem and then how this can affect communication. Introduction I am going to describe how communication skills are used effectively in the presentation. General Communication Skills General communication skills are a way of expression or exchanging ideas and thoughts between people. We can use the different techniques of communication skills such as cultural differences, adapting to audience, format of the language, accuracy of the related topic, engaging an audience and be aware of the time zone. All these skills should be properly used between each others. Cultural differences It is known that cultural differences exist between people with different national traditions, languages and religions. People may behave according to their own beliefs and this may look unusual. People may misunderstand each other. For example Scottish and English have different accents. The words are pronounced with a different dialect. Other countries may have to use different meanings of the same hand gestures during the presentation. For example same hand gestures can have a lot of different meaning in countries as United States of America means OK, Japan means money, Russia means zero and in Brazil you can insult someone.
