1. Introduction
VAT is a system in which the tax is collected on the value added to the goods at each stage of sales.
The dealer selling the goods collects tax on the full price at which he sells the goods. At the end of a
tax period he reduces from the tax so collected by him, the tax which has been charged to by the
dealers from whom he purchased goods during the tax period and deposits the balance to the
Government treasury. In other words the value added to a product by a business is the sale price

Appiah Soccer Summary
#1 Appiah s thesis is about a homogeneous uniformity between an individual s culture and his /her
community. Appiah talks about the cosmopolitanism, the way cultures interact on a daily basis. He
focuses on three main interrelated issues globalization, cultural diversity, and ethical consideration.
Franklin Foer exposes some of the world s social problems. The book travels to many different
settings throughout world and explains the problems that those areas are experiencing. It then shows
how soccer brings the people of the area together as one and helps them forget the problems and to
enjoy life. The major theme in this book is that we are all the same; that we are all human, and

Mitchell, Great source/explanation. In what ways do you see this happening: It also serves as a tool for
rich and powerful nations like the U.S to extend economic and cultural domination over poorer ones.
Brie Poor countries have taken enormous loans from wealthy countries in order to stay afloat. Paying
off the compound interest from this debt prevents them from investing resources into their own
country. For example, between 1970 and 2002, the continent of Africa received $540 billion in loans
from wealthy nations through the World Bank and IMF. African countries have paid back $550 billion
of their debt but they still owe $295 billion. The difference is the result of compound interest.
Countries cannot focus on economic or human development when they are constantly paying off debt;
these countries will continue to remain undeveloped and the rich powerful nations will continue to

Carly Fiorina Research Paper
Many times it is debated what makes the best president for America. Maybe the ultimate leader is
brash and honest like Donald Trump, or the leader believes in helping the middle class, like Bernie
Sanders and Hillary Clinton. The ideal leader, however, is instead a woman with many leadership
characteristics and experience. She is a woman of confidence and of charity. This leader, the sole
candidate that can maintain America s status as a powerful society, is Carly Fiorina. Carly Fiorina is a
confident business leader with experience at Hewlett Packard who also ran many charitable
organizations, such as Opportunity International. Because of this, she is the best candidate to lead the

A Brief Note On Mediates Contact Dependent Homophilic
Dscam:
Mediates contact dependent homophilic repulsion
Dscam diversity underlies a robust cellular recognition mechanism allowing dendrites to distinguish
between surfaces of different cells.
Main arguments is that Dscam mediated self avoidance is a general organizing mechanism operating
throughout Drosophila nervous system.
da neurons associate closely with the epidermis as they extend across the body wall; thus, their
dendrites create a two dimensional meshwork in which developing branches frequently encounter
other dendrites (different from CNS where axons and dendrites form 3D by interaction)
when deficient in Dscam function, individual dendrites do not recognize sister branches and fail to
initiate repulsion, leading to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dscam is required for proper segregation of sister axon branches (Wang et al., 2002), and analogous to
the self avoidance control in da neurons, specific isoforms do not appear to provide instructive cues
for this segregation event. It has been argued that this reflects a role for Dscam in mediating self
recognition and repulsion between these axons
In da neurons, dendrite selfavoidance defects were separable from growth, branching, and targeting
errors and were fully penetrant. Thus, our data directly implicate Dscam in self avoidance and
demonstrate this role at the level of interactions between individual branches.
Mechanism:
identical Dscam ectodomains on the surfaces of isoneuronal dendrites recognize each other and induce
a subsequent repulsive signal that is mediated by domains in the cytoplasmic tail.
How: o First, identical Dscam isoforms expressed in two cell populations in vitro induced their
aggregation in an isoform specific manner, showing that Dscam provides cells with the ability to
distinguish between different cell surfaces. o Second, ectopic (in an abnormal place or position)
expression of identical Dscam isoforms on the dendrites of different cells, which normally overlap,
promoted growth away from each other.
From in vitro adhesion to in vivo repulsion
Our data suggest that the dendrites of da neurons convert an initial Dscam dependent cell surface
interaction into a repulsive response, which leads to dendrite separation and receptive

Similarities Between Mccarthyism And The Crucible
I have here in my hand a list of 205 State Department employees that were known to the Secretary of
State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping
the policy of the State Department , McCarthy s speech in the State Department, ( McCarthyism the
Red Scare , History.com). The Red Scare era was a haywire of communist infiltrations during the Cold
War, in the 1950s. On February 9th, 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy a republican of Wisconsin,
accused originally 205 state department employees of being a part of a communist party. McCarthy s
speech sparked an uproar of nationwide hysteria about the renegade people in the American
government. Overall, McCarthy accused 224 people for being involved with a communist party. One
of the 224 people, Arthur Miller, an american playwright who wrote The Crucible to warn the
american people against the government misinformation. The Crucible is about the salem witch trials
in 1692. He compared the witch trials in The Crucible to the McCarthy investigations. The Crucible, a
play, written by Arthur Miller is an allegory for the Red Scare in the McCarthy Era, which took place
in the 1950s, because of the false evidence provided, the false accusations, and the hearsay in the
courts. During the Red Scare Era, McCarthy accused people of crimes they did not commit, he
falsified evidence trying to frame them for being apart of the communist infiltration. McCarthy
accused 224 people of communism,

was used to block the participants sight in the study phase (see Figure 1). Figure 1: Representation of
the paradigm used in this experiment. Design and Procedures A standard recognition memory test was
implemented with SIOR paradigm in this experiment. Each participant completed 52 trials. 26
participants provided 1342 trails in this experiment. Only half of 1342 trails were evaluated in the
analysis. This study focused on the proportion of responses of each participant when he/she chose a
different location as their partner s previous response. The analysis compared participant s response to
the same location to their partner with the chance of 50 percent. If a significant different was shown in
the hypothesis that participant s preferences were not by chance of 50 percent, the study might
conclude that participant preferred a different location compared with their partner s previous action.
The effect of SIOR was quantified as the number of responses of a participant with the choice of a
different location compared with their partner. 26 participants were randomly assigned in pairs to form

Conflict Theory And Social Interactionism In Orange Is The...
Orange is the new black is a Netflix original series about the functional ability of a woman s prison in
upstate New York. Integrity, power, and privilege all work together to create many of the situations
that arise. Litchfield prison is made up of white male officers, and different racial groups that are
clearly divided. For each race, loosely made up of: blacks, latinos, whites, others , and a group of
older women known as the golden girls , there is a sector of living. Blacks in one block, with a
bathroom only for them, whites in another, etc. Conflict theory and symbolic interactionism are both
excellent theories to examine this series by. Conflict theory, a multi part theory about both race and
gender, is applicable to Orange Is The New Black because of the degrading treatment of the women
and the denial of their basic feminine needs. Symbolic interactionism can be applied to most situations
that occur in the show. Through these theories social interactions in Orange Is The New Black can be
looked at and better understood.
Privilege can be applied to many different situations throughout the show. Racial privilege, gender
privilege, class privilege, etc. A common theme of privilege throughout Orange Is The New Black is
racial privilege. This is shown through the cleanliness of the living quarters and punishment given
across races. SHU (solitary confinement) is much more readily handed out to black inmates over any
other race. In one episode, a screwdriver goes

Similarities Between Thor And Scavengers
Once upon a time, Thor and Loki were traveling to Jotunheim, the giant kingdom, in this chariot
pulled by magic immortal goats. They had to go through Midgard, the human y place. They spent the
night at this farmer Egil s house. Egil had these kids, Roskva and Thjalfi. So Thor slaughtered his pet

together in a pile after they were done eating so he could bring the goat s back to life later, because

The Juvenile Justice System Is Creating A Criminal Class
Such reactions and critiques of the juvenile justice system enforce the notion that the juvenile system
is creating a criminal class. Black s theory states that patterns of relationships between the parties
involved in a case predict the styles and forms of social control, relationships between intimates would
result in more informal handling of cases. Law and formal control arise when informal control is weak
and unavailable. Legal control by the state develops when social control of families, schools, and
communities is inadequate. Cases are treated more or less formal or informal depending on the
amount of family control over juveniles (Staples, 1987). It is no surprise that blacks are
overrepresented in the juvenile justice system like they are in the adult system, hence the idea of the
juvenile system as just a second class mini criminal court (Sampson and Laub, 2003). Changes to the
juvenile court came about as the same time changes occurred to American families, more specifically,
divorce. In homes where children were living with both biological patterns, there was more social
control and less need for law. In single parent households, there is less social control. The growth of
formal social control with the decline of informal social control can account for increasing numbers of
juveniles entering the juvenile justice system. The number of black children living with both
biological parents until seventeen years old dropped from 52% in the early 1950s to one

if King was going to win or lose because he was getting dizzy, so he probably wouldn t be able to last

moment. The resolution of A Piece of Steak is when Tom King loss the fight and cried. When he was

Unforgiven Death Penalty
Capital punishment turns the state into a murderer (Jesse Jackson). The state of Kansas and many
other states allow capital punishment to exist on the grounds of the United States. Capital punishment
also known as death penalty is a subject worth discussing because of its unjust act upon humans.
Capital punishment is an act that uses racism in many occasion. According to [Justice Department]
figures, nearly 80 percent of inmates on federal death row are Black, Hispanic, or from another
minority group (Campaign to End the Death Penalty). In fact racism is still going on today in the
world including the United States. The imposition of the death penalty is racially biased: Nearly 90%
of persons executed were convicted of killing whites, although people of color make up over half of
all homicide victims in the United States (National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty). Death row
in the U.S. has always held a disproportionately large population of people of color relative to the

Passage two quote is from Coraline by Neil Gaiman. The main idea of Coraline is that getting
everything a character wants is not a good thing for the character. In Coraline the main character
speaks this quote from passage two, to the other Mr. Bobo and explains receiving everything she
wants; toys, undivided attention by her parents and never being bored is not good. As she would be
losing her independence also not working towards her goals. Therefore, a character getting everything
they want is bad because your independence is lost due to always striving for the next best and not
being happy. In passage two from part A, the quote is from My Last Duchess by Robert Browning.
Power is very important to the protagonist the Duke in the short story, My Last Duchess, as he needs
and holds power. However, before this quote, the Duke had told the envoy how he planned his wife s
murder. The envoy upon hearing this is wanting to leave the Duke, but the Duke says together down,
sir . Furthermore, making the envoy feel equal to the Duke, but ultimately the protagonist is displaying

Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler
Both Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler were pioneers and both had a phenomenal impact on the world
of psychology. However, while they were raised in the same era, came from the same city and were
educated at the same university, they had decidedly different views regarding personality theories
(Schultz, 1990, p. 120). Freud and Adler were both colleagues in the psychoanalytic movement that
Freud started. However, because of personality differences and vastly contrasting views about
personality theories (Mosak Maniacci, 1999, p.6) Adler left to begin his own faction, which he called
Individual Psychology. It is my intention to briefly describe the main areas of their theories, compare
and contrast their ideas of personality development, explore what types of experiences contributes to
unhealthy development and what types of interventions they would have each prescribed to patients
experiencing difficulties in their lives. However, while both Freud and Adler continue to influence
many areas of contemporary personality psychology, only one of them can truly be called a
humanitarian. Personality Development Freud believed that an individual s personality is formed
through five psychosexual developmental stages. The oral stage which is formed in the first year of
life is preoccupied with oral activities. The anal stage involves bowel function and control, and occurs
during the second year of life. The phallic stage which occurs at approximately the third year to the

Mrs Sowerberry s Influence On The Character Of Dr Fagin
Noah Claypole is the perfect example of how environment can corrupt children : he is an apprentice of
Mr. Sowerberry and was often ridiculed by other boys. As a result he started bullying others too, and it
is no surprise that he later joins Fagin. Among the young female characters, Nancy would be the
counterpart to Rose. She too have been corrupted by Fagin who drove her into prostitution. But unlike
the Artful Dodger, she kept a sense of what is good and bad : even this degraded being felt too proud
to betray a feeble gleam of the womanly feeling which she thought a weakness, but which alone
connected her with that humanity, of which her wasting life had obliterated so many, many traces
when a very child. Dickens seems to imply that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This novel is indeed quite a political statement : children characters are shown unfit for a harsh
environment and the only outcome for them is to die at a young age, like Dick or Nancy. Dickens is
thus arguing that the Original Sin is a belief that belongs to the past, and that children should be
protected from misery, labour and mistreatment. However, Oliver doesn t die and his inherent
goodness and innocence seem to remain uncorrupted by the people he encounters and the course of
events. Dickens may have made a symbol out of Oliver, the ideal of the Romantic child if kept from
corruption. Oliver is what the other misfortunate children of the novel could have been. He is what
they should have been : good, innocent and pious. Oliver twist was a popular novel among the middle
class at the time it was published : although Victorian poor children were exploited in factories, mine
and workhouses, literary Victorians who were mostly middle class had a certain affection for orphans
and pauper children. Dickens specifically targeted his middle class audience to trigger its compassion
for unfortunate children beyond literature, thats is to say into reality. It is no coincidence that Maylie
and Rose, two middle class characters, realize that Oliver doesn t have the

The term Fenians applied to members of various Irish organizations that took place in the USA, that
launched many raids into Canadian territory, from 1866 to 1871. Although they were a USA based
organization, The United States did not support them. Fenians were part of an 1857 movement to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Fibre Composites And...
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Composite materials are the engineering materials made from two or more constituent materials they
remain separate and distinct on a macroscopic level but forming a single component or Composites
can defined as materials that consist of two more chemically and physically different phases separated
by a distinct interface(matrix phase and dispersed phase). The different systems are combined
judiciously to achieve a component with more and more useful structural or functional properties non
attainable by any of the constituent alone. Matrix phase is the primary phase having a continuous
character. Matrix is usually more ductile and less hard phase. It holds the dispersed phase and shares a
load with it. Dispersed (reinforcing) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

understanding the phenomena that take place during combustion often require close collaboration

and heat transfer, rheology, etc.). Fire retardants are combined with polymer resins to reduce their
flammability, decrease production of volatiles and inhibit

Case Study 1: Breast Cancer
Situation: The client is a 50 year old female teacher who was notified of an abnormal screening
mammogram. Diagnosis of infiltrating ductal carcinoma was made following a stereotactic needle
biopsy of a 1.5 x 1.5 cm lobulated mass at the 3:00 position in her left breast. The client had a
modified radical mastectomy with lymph node dissection. The sentinel lymph node and 11 of 16
lymph nodes were positive for tumor. Estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors were both
positive. Further staging work up was negative for distant metastasis. Her final staging was stage IIB.

her breast cancer. Her last treatment with doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, and 5 fluorouracil was
approximately 12 days ago. She came to the emergency room with a 2 day history of fever, chills, and
shortness of breath. On arrival, she is disoriented and agitated. Vital signs are 86/43, 119, 28, 39.8° C,
SaO2 85% on room air. Laboratory data include WBC 1.2 thou/cmm, Hct 24.9%, Hgb 8.7 g/dl,
platelets 125 thou/cmm. Differential WBC count shows 37% granulocytes, 60% lymphocytes, 3%
monocytes. Chem 14 is within normal limits, with the exception of BUN 28 mg/dl, creatinine 1.6
mg/dl, and lactic acid 2.4 mg/dl. Chest x ray demonstrates diffuse infiltrates in the left lower lung.
Granulocytes include neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.
Bands, or stabs, are immature neutrophils.
Nongranulocytes include lymphocytes and monocytes.
The formula for absolute granulocyte count (AGC) is:
AGC = Granulocyte count (%Neutrophils + %Bands)/100 X WBC
AGC = 0.37 X 1200 = 444/cmm
10. The client s AGC is 444/cmm. What is the significance of an AGC of 444/cmm?
An AGC of less than 500/cmm puts a patient at a severe risk of infection.
Some labs still report both neutrophils and bands, so this calculation is necessary. Modern labs report
straight granulocyte.

Eating Disorders And Substance Abuse Essay
Eating Disorders And Substance Abuse
Common Eating Disorders:
The two most common eating disorders are bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa. Both disorders,
primarily affect young women, therefore the majority of the research on eating disorders has been
done with women subjects. The onset of bulimia is between adolescence and early adulthood while
the onset of anorexia is between early and late adolescence. Not only is the onset different but the
disorders are unique. Bulimia nervosa is characterized by loss of control over eating which leads to
food binges. These episodes are interspersed with episodes of purging, such as vomiting or laxative

Comparably high rates were found in binge eating/purging anorexics (Lilenfeld 1996).
The figures are defined as high because in the general population the rate of alcohol abuse or
dependence in women is twelve percent and ten percent for other drug abuse or dependence. The only
area where drug or alcohol abuse does not appear to be related to eating is with anorexia nervosa. In
this area alcohol abuse appears to be less than the general population.
In another compilation of studies by Schuckit, Tipp, Anthenelli, and Buchotz differing statistics were
found as to whether there was increased alcohol abuse among women with bulimia. One group of
studies regarding bulimia stated that between one fourth and one half of individuals with bulimia
drank one or several times per week or had evidence of a problem with street drugs . Another stated
that between fourteen and over fifty percent of individuals met the criteria for alcohol dependence. Yet
another study found only a twelve percent rate of severe alcohol problems among a group of women
with bulimia. This evidence states that there is no proof for substance abuse increase in bulimia
because the rate in the general

Mr Birling s Responsibility In An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls was written in 1945 the year the second world war ended but set shortly before the
first world war in 1912 because he wanted to show the class divide before the war and the arrogance
that the upper class or upper middle in Mr Birling s case had and to try to stop us from going down
that path again like the Inspector did with Eric and Sheila. Priestley uses the play to show others his
socialist views and how he wants everyone to work together and look out for one another.
Priestley opens the play in the Birling s dining room dessert plates and champagne glasses, ect.., and
then replacing them with decanter of port, cigar box and cigarettes many of the things on the table
such as the champagne glasses and the port shows that the Birling s must have been wealthy as they

Reduced Access To Health Care Essay
The rapidly rising cost of health care in the United States has made access to medical care difficult for
many citizens. Additionally, the number of uninsured is increasing because of job loss and reduction
of employee benefits. This trend is projected to continue. The negative effect of reduced access to
health care may have alarming effects on the economic well being of the nation. The passage of the
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) marks the beginning of significant
transformation in the United States health care systems. After multiple attempts to reform health care

A series of events has recently occurred to cause the passage of PPACA. Economics are explicitly
linked to health care. In the United States, health care coverage is provided primarily through an
employer based system. This system began in the depression era when pay was federally frozen.
Companies, in an attempt to lure scarce workers, used benefits packages including health care as bait.
Described as a uniquely American private social security health care system, the employer sponsored
system is the cornerstone of United States health care system (Blumenthal, 2006). This system has left
many un or under insured. Blumenthal states (2006), The United States dependence on employer
sponsored insurance means that the protection of its citizens against the costs of illness depends
directly on the ability of private businesses to manage and absorb health care expenses that have
defied all efforts to contain them. Recently, economic downturn and the need to reduce expenses to
better compete on the global market has caused many companies to both reduce their insurance
benefits package and their work force causing many to lose their health care coverage. The employer
based system merged with the economic downturn, unaffordable health care costs for businesses, and

Theme Of Friendship In The House Of Cather
In life, there are several things that cannot be bought in a store, such as friendship. There are several
views on the purpose of friendship. The House of Mirth is a novel by Wharton that revolves on Lily
Bart attempting to find a husband as a way to have a successful life and provides insight on upper
class society in the late 1800s and early 1900s. O Pioneers! is a novel by Cather about how Alexandra
Bergson connects to the land and others and how Emil Bergeson s romance with Marie Shabata
evolves. Both Wharton and Cather view friendship as a means to support and comfort. However,
Wharton also sees friendship as a way to achieve certain things while Cather perceives friendship as a
way to combat loneliness.
For both Wharton and Cather, friendship serves as a vehicle for support and comfort.
Although Mrs. Trenor tends to take advantage of Lily, Mrs. Trenor gives Lily advice on how to find a
spouse. Mrs. Trenor advises Lily, Don t wear your scarlet crêpe de chine for dinner, and don t smoke if
you can help it, Lily dear! [The House of Mirth 45] ... And Mrs. Trenor, glowing with her sex s
eagerness to smooth the course of true love, enveloped Lily in a long embrace. [The House of Mirth

higher probability of getting married. The fact that Mrs. Trenor yearns to help Lily find a husband

Reflection On Science Lesson
on November 1, 2017, I taught my second science lesson at Maverick Elementary School. It took
place during my Kindergarten class usually scheduled science lesson. This week my class was going
over the 5 senses, so my lesson fit perfectly into their curriculum. My lesson was about using the 5
senses to predict what an unknown object was in a closed bag. I chose to do this lesson because my
students were learning how to use senses as a tool of observation to identify properties and patterns of
organisms, objects, and events in environment (TEK K.4B). My objective was for the students to use
their senses to identify an object and describe the different properties of objects accurately.
Strengths and Weaknesses of Lesson I think one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, I think my lesson went pretty well, despite a few minor hiccups.
Changes I Would Make
If I could make changes to my lesson to make it more effective, I would probably have the students
switch the bags at the tables. For this lesson, I only gave each table one bag. I feel like the lesson
would have been more fun and exciting, if I let the students guess what the unknown objects were in
each of the table s bags. However, I only gave each table one bag for time s sake. Also, if I could make
an additional change to the lesson, I would probably make it harder to open the brown paper bags.
Even though I stabled the paper bags shut and told everyone not to open their bags until I gave the
word, two out of the five tables opened their paper bag. I believe this lesson would have been more
effective, if there was some way to make it harder to open the paper bags.
How the Objective of Lesson was Met After all was said and done, I believe that I met the objective of
the lesson. The lesson s objective was for the students to be able to describe the properties of an object
and use their senses to identify an object accurately. In order for the students to do this lesson, they
had to touch/feel the bag, smell the bag, and hear what was inside of the bag. The students also had to
circle the descriptive words on their worksheets that describe the object. When the students had to

Summary Of Alexander The Man, The Conqueror
Zeus, I just finished reading what this John Wiseman, wrote about you. He s so full of himself. He

Great and the proliferation of the Greek culture everywhere. I think I will sent him a signed copy of,
Alexander the Great: the Man, the Myth, the Conqueror by Mark Darius. Now Darius knows how to

William Penn Essay
William Penn
William Penn was born and raised in England, but he is well known for what he did in the Americas.
First and foremost, William Penn was a religious nonconformist and writer: he wrote numerous
religious books over his lifetime. Second, Penn is responsible for the holy experiment : the colony of
Pennsylvania. He was a Quaker advocate, and as a proprietor had the opportunity to practice the
Quaker Peace testimony.
Penn was interested in religion from the time he was a child. When he was twelve years old he had the
opportunity to hear testimony from a traveling Quaker minister, Thomas Loe. Penn was touched by
Loe s message, and sought the authentic Christian message rather then focusing on institutional
religion. At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wanted to get the word out about his religion and he wasn t going to be discouraged. After William
was released, he wrote Innocency with Her Open Face, and wrote a number of other works on his
Quaker faith.
In 1681, Penn and 11 other Quakers brought the Proprietary rights to east New Jersey. King Charles II
owed Penn s father, Admiral Sir William Penn, and in return Penn persuaded the king to grant him a
vast province on the west bank of the Delaware River (Samuel, 2000). It was named Pennsylvania,
which means Penn s woods, after his father. Penn decided that his colony was going to be different
from the rest of the colonies in that they were going to be a Quaker based colony. He believed in a
divine right of government and formed the government of Pennsylvania as a holy experiment in
governing. This type of government is considered being ahead of its time as it set forth a
representative form of government. The penal system was designed to reform not just punish, and all
prisoners except capital prisoners were entitled to bail, work houses were substituted for dungeons and
the death penalty was limited to murder and treason . Also, Penn instituted public education and
designed Philadelphia and other towns to promote health and fire safety. Being that Penn was in
charge of the colony, he was given the opportunity to practice the Quaker Peace Testimony. He
realized that a lot of the land that he was living on

It also shows the inner mystery of women that people cannot see or understand. In the first stanza
Pretty women under where my secret lies, she talks about all women accepting and loving themselves
just the way they are. Women should not try to compare themselves with what they see on TV or in
magazines. They should take pride in the amazing features that they were born with, even though what
we see in the media is describing as the idea image. This image of a perfect woman is not real. In
society today, there is no such thing as the perfect woman or man. Everyone has flaws or different
features that set us apart from one another. In the second stanza I walk into a room just as cool as you
please, talks about how a woman describes her body to show self assuredness. Every action she
describes how a woman can move a room as if she has complete control of that room. It shows that
she knows what she is doing and has every intention of it. She knows that she may not be a coca cola
bottle or a petite woman, but she is beautiful and can steal people attention if she wants to. This leads
to the third stanza My inner mystery. A woman inner mystery is our confidence. We are confident
when a man approaches us and talks to us. We are also confident in what we do and believe. When
people say that they cannot see what we have to offer, we say our beauty. We feel like we can offer a

Appiah talks about the cosmopolitanism, the way cultures interact on a daily basis. He focuses on three main interrelated issues globalization, cultural diversity, and ethical consideration. Franklin Foer exposes some of the world s social problems. The book travels to many different settings throughout world and explains the problems that those areas are experiencing. It then shows how soccer brings the people of the area together as one and helps them forget the problems and to enjoy life. The major theme in this book is that we are all the same; that we are all human, and although there may be many problems that it seems like cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also serves as a tool for rich and powerful nations like the U.S to extend economic and cultural domination over poorer ones. http://eds.b.ebscohost.com.pegleg.park.edu/eds/detail/detail?sid Mitchell, Great source/explanation. In what ways do you see this happening: It also serves as a tool for rich and powerful nations like the U.S to extend economic and cultural domination over poorer ones. Brie Poor countries have taken enormous loans from wealthy countries in order to stay afloat. Paying off the compound interest from this debt prevents them from investing resources into their own country. For example, between 1970 and 2002, the continent of Africa received $540 billion in loans from wealthy nations through the World Bank and IMF. African countries have paid back $550 billion of their debt but they still owe $295 billion. The difference is the result of compound interest. Countries cannot focus on economic or human development when they are constantly paying off debt; these countries will continue to remain undeveloped and the rich powerful nations will continue to extend their ... • 6. A Brief Note On Mediates Contact Dependent Homophilic Dscam: Mediates contact dependent homophilic repulsion Dscam diversity underlies a robust cellular recognition mechanism allowing dendrites to distinguish between surfaces of different cells. Main arguments is that Dscam mediated self avoidance is a general organizing mechanism operating throughout Drosophila nervous system. da neurons associate closely with the epidermis as they extend across the body wall; thus, their dendrites create a two dimensional meshwork in which developing branches frequently encounter other dendrites (different from CNS where axons and dendrites form 3D by interaction) when deficient in Dscam function, individual dendrites do not recognize sister branches and fail to initiate repulsion, leading to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dscam is required for proper segregation of sister axon branches (Wang et al., 2002), and analogous to the self avoidance control in da neurons, specific isoforms do not appear to provide instructive cues for this segregation event. It has been argued that this reflects a role for Dscam in mediating self recognition and repulsion between these axons In da neurons, dendrite selfavoidance defects were separable from growth, branching, and targeting errors and were fully penetrant. Thus, our data directly implicate Dscam in self avoidance and demonstrate this role at the level of interactions between individual branches. Mechanism: identical Dscam ectodomains on the surfaces of isoneuronal dendrites recognize each other and induce a subsequent repulsive signal that is mediated by domains in the cytoplasmic tail. How: o First, identical Dscam isoforms expressed in two cell populations in vitro induced their aggregation in an isoform specific manner, showing that Dscam provides cells with the ability to distinguish between different cell surfaces. o Second, ectopic (in an abnormal place or position) expression of identical Dscam isoforms on the dendrites of different cells, which normally overlap, promoted growth away from each other. From in vitro adhesion to in vivo repulsion Our data suggest that the dendrites of da neurons convert an initial Dscam dependent cell surface interaction into a repulsive response, which leads to dendrite separation and receptive ... Similarities Between Mccarthyism And The Crucible I have here in my hand a list of 205 State Department employees that were known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping the policy of the State Department , McCarthy s speech in the State Department, ( McCarthyism the Red Scare , History.com). The Red Scare era was a haywire of communist infiltrations during the Cold War, in the 1950s. On February 9th, 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy a republican of Wisconsin, accused originally 205 state department employees of being a part of a communist party. McCarthy s speech sparked an uproar of nationwide hysteria about the renegade people in the American government. Overall, McCarthy accused 224 people for being involved with a communist party. One of the 224 people, Arthur Miller, an american playwright who wrote The Crucible to warn the american people against the government misinformation. The Crucible is about the salem witch trials in 1692. He compared the witch trials in The Crucible to the McCarthy investigations. The Crucible, a play, written by Arthur Miller is an allegory for the Red Scare in the McCarthy Era, which took place in the 1950s, because of the false evidence provided, the false accusations, and the hearsay in the courts. During the Red Scare Era, McCarthy accused people of crimes they did not commit, he falsified evidence trying to frame them for being apart of the communist infiltration. Two home buttons were placed in front of the participants on the table and connected to the computer. A barrier was used to block the participants sight in the study phase (see Figure 1). Figure 1: Representation of the paradigm used in this experiment. Design and Procedures A standard recognition memory test was implemented with SIOR paradigm in this experiment. Each participant completed 52 trials. 26 participants provided 1342 trails in this experiment. Only half of 1342 trails were evaluated in the analysis. This study focused on the proportion of responses of each participant when he/she chose a different location as their partner s previous response. The analysis compared participant s response to the same location to their partner with the chance of 50 percent. If a significant different was shown in the hypothesis that participant s preferences were not by chance of 50 percent, the study might conclude that participant preferred a different location compared with their partner s previous action. • 9. Conflict Theory And Social Interactionism In Orange Is The... Orange is the new black is a Netflix original series about the functional ability of a woman s prison in upstate New York. Integrity, power, and privilege all work together to create many of the situations that arise. Litchfield prison is made up of white male officers, and different racial groups that are clearly divided. For each race, loosely made up of: blacks, latinos, whites, others , and a group of older women known as the golden girls , there is a sector of living. Blacks in one block, with a bathroom only for them, whites in another, etc. Conflict theory and symbolic interactionism are both excellent theories to examine this series by. Conflict theory, a multi part theory about both race and gender, is applicable to Orange Is The New Black because of the degrading treatment of the women and the denial of their basic feminine needs. Symbolic interactionism can be applied to most situations that occur in the show. Through these theories social interactions in Orange Is The New Black can be looked at and better understood. Privilege can be applied to many different situations throughout the show. Racial privilege, gender privilege, class privilege, etc. A common theme of privilege throughout Orange Is The New Black is racial privilege. This is shown through the cleanliness of the living quarters and punishment given across races. SHU (solitary confinement) is much more readily handed out to black inmates over any other race. • 18. The Juvenile Justice System Is Creating A Criminal Class Such reactions and critiques of the juvenile justice system enforce the notion that the juvenile system is creating a criminal class. Black s theory states that patterns of relationships between the parties involved in a case predict the styles and forms of social control, relationships between intimates would result in more informal handling of cases. Law and formal control arise when informal control is weak and unavailable. Legal control by the state develops when social control of families, schools, and communities is inadequate. Cases are treated more or less formal or informal depending on the amount of family control over juveniles (Staples, 1987). It is no surprise that blacks are overrepresented in the juvenile justice system like they are in the adult system, hence the idea of the juvenile system as just a second class mini criminal court (Sampson and Laub, 2003). Changes to the juvenile court came about as the same time changes occurred to American families, more specifically, divorce. In homes where children were living with both biological patterns, there was more social control and less need for law. In single parent households, there is less social control. The growth of formal social control with the decline of informal social control can account for increasing numbers of juveniles entering the juvenile justice system. This system has left many un or under insured. Blumenthal states (2006), The United States dependence on employer sponsored insurance means that the protection of its citizens against the costs of illness depends directly on the ability of private businesses to manage and absorb health care expenses that have defied all efforts to contain them. Recently, economic downturn and the need to reduce expenses to better compete on the global market has caused many companies to both reduce their insurance benefits package and their work force causing many to lose their health care coverage. • 35. Theme Of Friendship In The House Of Cather In life, there are several things that cannot be bought in a store, such as friendship. There are several views on the purpose of friendship. The House of Mirth is a novel by Wharton that revolves on Lily Bart attempting to find a husband as a way to have a successful life and provides insight on upper class society in the late 1800s and early 1900s. O Pioneers! is a novel by Cather about how Alexandra Bergson connects to the land and others and how Emil Bergeson s romance with Marie Shabata evolves. Both Wharton and Cather view friendship as a means to support and comfort. However, Wharton also sees friendship as a way to achieve certain things while Cather perceives friendship as a way to combat loneliness. For both Wharton and Cather, friendship serves as a vehicle for support and comfort. Although Mrs. Trenor tends to take advantage of Lily, Mrs. Trenor gives Lily advice on how to find a spouse. Mrs. Trenor advises Lily, Don t wear your scarlet crêpe de chine for dinner, and don t smoke if you can help it, Lily dear! [The House of Mirth 45] ... And Mrs. Trenor, glowing with her sex s eagerness to smooth the course of true love, enveloped Lily in a long embrace. [The House of Mirth 46] By Mrs. Trenor providing tips to Lily about how to find a husband, she guides Lily to have a higher probability of getting married. • 36. Reflection On Science Lesson on November 1, 2017, I taught my second science lesson at Maverick Elementary School. It took place during my Kindergarten class usually scheduled science lesson. This week my class was going over the 5 senses, so my lesson fit perfectly into their curriculum. My lesson was about using the 5 senses to predict what an unknown object was in a closed bag. I chose to do this lesson because my students were learning how to use senses as a tool of observation to identify properties and patterns of organisms, objects, and events in environment (TEK K.4B). My objective was for the students to use their senses to identify an object and describe the different properties of objects accurately. Strengths and Weaknesses of Lesson I think one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall, I think my lesson went pretty well, despite a few minor hiccups. Changes I Would Make If I could make changes to my lesson to make it more effective, I would probably have the students switch the bags at the tables. For this lesson, I only gave each table one bag. I feel like the lesson would have been more fun and exciting, if I let the students guess what the unknown objects were in each of the table s bags. However, I only gave each table one bag for time s sake. Also, if I could make an additional change to the lesson, I would probably make it harder to open the brown paper bags. Even though I stabled the paper bags shut and told everyone not to open their bags until I gave the word, two out of the five tables opened their paper bag. I believe this lesson would have been more effective, if there was some way to make it harder to open the paper bags. How the Objective of Lesson was Met After all was said and done, I believe that I met the objective of the lesson. The lesson s objective was for the students to be able to describe the properties of an object and use their senses to identify an object accurately. In order for the students to do this lesson, they had to touch/feel the bag, smell the bag, and hear what was inside of the bag. The students also had to circle the descriptive words on their worksheets that describe the object. When the students had to circle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Summary Of Alexander The Man, The Conqueror Zeus, I just finished reading what this John Wiseman, wrote about you. He s so full of himself. He stated there was more than one Zeus solely on the primes you were worshiped, as the King of Gods and men, differently from Asia Minor to Sicily. I guess he forgot to read the chapter on Alexander the Great and the proliferation of the Greek culture everywhere. I think I will sent him a signed copy of, Alexander the Great: the Man, the Myth, the Conqueror by Mark Darius. Now Darius knows how to write a book. He wrote that you might have been Alexander s father and ancient Greek religion did have an influence on the countries Alexander conquered: 200,000 sq. miles of land. In her mind, she chuckled when she thought; Wiseman would probably say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, there was that problematic setback when Lycaon invited you to a banquet in your honor and then he tricked you. It angered you so much you were ready to strike out with your thunderbolt and rid earth of all mortals when you remembered what the oracles had said about the earth being destroyed by fire, you held back, and persuaded you brother Poseidon to flood the entire earth instead. You were set to clean house when the other Olympian gods and goddess persuaded you not too destroy all the mortals; because, if you did there would be no one around to worship you are them. Therefore, you let two live Deucalion and Pyrrha and they became the proud parents of the new mortal race. Zeus, though out the centuries writers have called you, the God of gods who had erotic escapades or amorous conquest. Wiseman used the ink in his pen, like bullets in a gun, with each word, he wrote he fired shot after shot at you until you hemorrhage all over the page. He has the audacity to depict you as a scandalous womanizer and rapist. Wiseman is a mythomaniac and has crossed the line. Don t let him get away with this character assassination crap. • 38. William Penn Essay William Penn William Penn was born and raised in England, but he is well known for what he did in the Americas. First and foremost, William Penn was a religious nonconformist and writer: he wrote numerous religious books over his lifetime. Second, Penn is responsible for the holy experiment : the colony of Pennsylvania. He was a Quaker advocate, and as a proprietor had the opportunity to practice the Quaker Peace testimony. Penn was interested in religion from the time he was a child. When he was twelve years old he had the opportunity to hear testimony from a traveling Quaker minister, Thomas Loe. Penn was touched by Loe s message, and sought the authentic Christian message rather then focusing on institutional religion. At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wanted to get the word out about his religion and he wasn t going to be discouraged. After William was released, he wrote Innocency with Her Open Face, and wrote a number of other works on his Quaker faith. In 1681, Penn and 11 other Quakers brought the Proprietary rights to east New Jersey. King Charles II owed Penn s father, Admiral Sir William Penn, and in return Penn persuaded the king to grant him a vast province on the west bank of the Delaware River (Samuel, 2000). It was named Pennsylvania, which means Penn s woods, after his father. Penn decided that his colony was going to be different from the rest of the colonies in that they were going to be a Quaker based colony. He believed in a divine right of government and formed the government of Pennsylvania as a holy experiment in governing. This type of government is considered being ahead of its time as it set forth a representative form of government. The penal system was designed to reform not just punish, and all prisoners except capital prisoners were entitled to bail, work houses were substituted for dungeons and the death penalty was limited to murder and treason . Also, Penn instituted public education and designed Philadelphia and other towns to promote health and fire safety. Being that Penn was in charge of the colony, he was given the opportunity to practice the Quaker Peace Testimony. He realized that a lot of the land that he was living on ... It also shows the inner mystery of women that people cannot see or understand. In the first stanza Pretty women under where my secret lies, she talks about all women accepting and loving themselves just the way they are. Women should not try to compare themselves with what they see on TV or in magazines. They should take pride in the amazing features that they were born with, even though what we see in the media is describing as the idea image. This image of a perfect woman is not real. In society today, there is no such thing as the perfect woman or man. Everyone has flaws or different features that set us apart from one another. In the second stanza I walk into a room just as cool as you please, talks about how a woman describes her body to show self assuredness. Every action she describes how a woman can move a room as if she has complete control of that room. It shows that she knows what she is doing and has every intention of it. She knows that she may not be a coca cola bottle or a petite woman, but she is beautiful and can steal people attention if she wants to. This leads to the third stanza My inner mystery. A woman inner mystery is our confidence. We are confident when a man approaches us and talks to us. We are also confident in what we do and believe. When people say that they cannot see what we have to offer, we say our beauty. We feel like we can offer a lot with our beauty and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
