2. Welfare And Economic Security
Welfare and economic security are issues that have plagued every society, if an
individual is too old to work, disabled, the family bread winner dies, or is
involuntarily unemployed, societies have to deal with this, and usually the
government has to step in to fix this issue (DeWitt 2010). The United States is a
very interesting society to watch deal with a problem such as inequality as social
and economic inequality has marked the American experience (Lewis 1993, pg. 4).
The individualist and self reliant mindset emphasises the idea that individuals have
the equal chance to wind up unequal (Lewis 1993). Equal opportunities for everyone
mean that if you fail to take care of your family, it is no ones fault but your own.
However, this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is reflected in aspects of American life such as private property, the free market,
and welfare. Because of this, there has always been a distrust of government,
gaining too much power and controlling the American way of life too much, and
limiting the result of pure individualism. The gruelling system of checks and
balances was put in place to control this very fear. The prospect of equal personal
opportunity developed in the late nineteenth century, with names such as Ford,
Carnegie, and Rockefeller made it big in their fields, after starting from so little in
life (Lewis 1993). If an individual pursues their own self interests, they will indirectly
promote the good of society (Smith 2013).
The individualistic nature is ingrained deep in the American psyche and lifestyle.
America has always been the land of equal opportunity for all. Society is benign and
what you achieve in life is all on you. When it comes to the free market, the
government is kept at bay, only stepping in to control monopolies from corrupting the
system. When the market is left alone, it will adjust, this is the same mindset
Americans have about themselves, leave people alone and they will adjust and get
through themselves. America is a country based around fear. Fears of an imperial
presidency emerging, of the government gaining too much power, and of the people
rebelling. Inequality of initial opportunity is not taken into account. Parents give their
kids every head start in life that

A little boy jumped into the townpool with no lifejacket on. The lifeguard suddenly
jumped right into the water. The little boy was in the deep end of the water that
was twelve feet. The lifeguard dove in and grabbed the boy out of the water in
seconds. The little boy was alive. He knew how to hold his breath but not swim.
The lifeguard was a hero and saved him. Otherwise, the boy would have died. It is
clear that people should have the right to have rescueservices rescue them when they
put themselves at risk. This is a controversial topic because there are many arguable
opinions about this. Others believe, rescue services shouldn t go out and rescue
them. For example if you re trying to rescue two people you are risking three lives.

4. Diction For Into The Wild
In the book Into the Wild, We learn about Chris McCandless who wanted to set off
on a journey Into the Wild. Chris was a smart young man and decided to set out for
his own life seeking adventure after he graduated college. On the road Chris would
write about his experiences and the things he thought about while being alone or in
nature. To connect the reader with the text more and to understand the theme,
Krakauer added epigraphs from other pieces of writing to the beginning of every
chapter. In the book the epigraphs before every chapter relate to that certain chapter
and helps add more tone to the story. Also the epigraphs can help set the mood of the
chapter and both the content and style of the novel. The first example of how the

in Krakauer 70). The way this epigraph can relate to the theme of the story is that
the way Chris wanted to live his life was simple compared to others. All Chris
wanted to do was get to Alaska and Into the Wild where he can be alone and enjoy
the surroundings which was nature, but as other people who lived normal lives
would want more than what they already have. For example Chris had his Datsun
which was a older car that he enjoyed because it was simple, but his parents wanted
to get rid of the car and buy Chris a better car for his graduation, he denied their
idea simply because he didn t want or need a different car. Chris s insights were a
bit different than most people s because any other kid would have most likely
accepted that gift from their parents. This also shows why Chris wanted to simply
go away and live such a simple life in Alaska, because he wasn t crazy he just had a
simpler insight on life. In conclusion, the epigraphs in the book can show the reader a
different type of tone of the text. These epigraphs helped connect the reading with the
novel and also helped establish a better understanding of the mood. The epigraphs
also inform the reader about the content of the story and
5. Poaching in Africa
Endangered animals all over Africa are on the verge of extinction due to human
greed. It is very difficult to even fathom how many animals are lost each year to
poaching. Animals are being stripped for their parts and left for dead. Poaching has
completely exhausted animal populations in Africa, which damages the environment,
and is affecting people all over the world both socially and through international
relations. Poaching is a growing activity in Africaand it is dangerously depleting
animal populations. Poaching is defined as the illegal killing of endangered and/or
protected animals and could also be considered hurting animals that are on
protected land (Pedersen). If poaching is continued, years of conservation and
development would have been for nothing. For years, groups have put work and
money into keeping animals safe. Many people turn to poaching as an activity
because it s a quick way to make a lot of money as tusks of a single adult elephant
can be worth more than ten times the average annual income in many African
countries . Rhino poaching rates were up 1000% at the beginning of the decade and
is continuing to grow quickly ( The African Poaching Crisis ). Many, many animals
and people are affected by this poaching. Poaching is the result of many other issues.
High demands in Asian markets mean more reward for poachers and without this
demand there would be no reason to poach at all ( Poaching Infographic ). Another
cause of poaching is the

Modernity(ies) and modernizations in Latin America
Despite some authors highlight ancients forms of communication or even proto
communication during pre colonial times in Latin America (Ferreira, 2006),
professional journalism as we currently know it is actually a product of Modernity
(Nerone, 2012). Modernity is, overall, an unfinished western project (Habermas,
1983) and its very conditions of possibility are strongly rooted in colonialism as its
very spatial and material dimensions. So, colonialism fluxes and influxes not only
spread the intellectual project of the Enlightenment at the same time its imperialistic
vocation of domination, but also cultural practices that have been adopted/adapted in
complex and complicated ways by the colonized. Therefore, the introduction of
modern technologies such as press and journalism simultaneously carried out the
ideals of Enlightenment and embedded colonization, exploitation, a global division of
racial labor, and the production of a differentiate humanity (Quijano, 2000).
The concept of Modernity has been highly problematized by Latin American thinkers
(GarcГa Canclini, 1992b; MartГn Barbero, 1995; MartГn Barbero White, 1993;
Quijano, 2000) as a Western construct, a colonial enterprise, and a failed project. In
that vein, GarcГa Canclini (1992) conceives Latin America as a complex articulation
of traditions and modernity(ies), deployed in divergent times experiences, far beyond
a linear conceptualization of progress, and

I currently attend Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology to pursue
an Associates degree through Northwestern State University. I chose this profession
because I always want to help others. I want to play a part in the healing process of
patients. Being able to help people determine things going on inside their body

Technologist is the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations
and administer radiation therapy treatments. They are educated in anatomy, patient
positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation
protection and basic patient care . This definition makes this job seem easy but it is
not an easy job at all. We do so much pushing, pulling, and lifting of patients it is
physically exhausting. When I first chose this profession I did not think there would

because without radiologic technologists we would not be where we are today
with diagnosing tumors, cancer, diseases, surgery and low infection rates in
surgery as well and much more. Radiologic Technologists are very important no
matter what people may think. Many think it is as simple as pushing a button but
there is way more to this job than that, that nobody knows about or understands. We

Being There A Bit More Like Chance
While watching the movie Being There, the viewer begins to notice just how

touching story about a man trapped in a world of which he knows nothing about and
a satirical comedy about the very same man. The book interests its audience, making
them hungry to know more; the movie involves its audience, feeding that hunger for
more details.

Chance s simple ideas about everyday living are so childlike that not f eeling sorry

Narcissistic defence
Narcissistic defences are often seen in psychotic individuals, people who are out of
touch with reality, they are the most prominent defences. Here I have selected
projection and denial as the two narcissistic defence mechanisms in relation to Moses
Sithole.
Projection
When referring to projection we define it as, perceiving and reacting to
unacceptable inner impulses and their derivate as though they were outside the
self (Kaplan Sadock s, 2015, p.161). We can speculate that Moses, put his feelings
of being falsely accused of raping Buyiswa Doris Swakamisaas a wrong doing on to
all his victims (as they all reminded him of her doing wrong unto him), so therefore
he saw them as doing wrong unto him so he needed to ... Show more content on

Through Moses, life he denied ever rapping Buyiswa Doris Swakamisa, his first
rap victim who took him to court. He maintained his innocence through the trial,
furthermore when put on trial for the 40 rapes; 38 murders and five robberies he
pleaded not guilty for all the charges. We could speculate that capable of such
horrible things, could not accept the painful reality of how he hurt these victims,
but projecting his feelings onto them. He denies the truth so that he is able to live
with himself and be okay, because if Moses truelly accepted what he did to 78
families, as a human being I would speculate that he wouldn t be able to live with
himself. Robbing those women of ever becoming a sister, a mother, a
grandmother. He took each and every one of those women s lives because he could
not accept or didn t want to accept the reality that he rapped Buyiswa Doris
Swakamisa and went to jail for it (where he fell a victim to his own crime i.e. in his

11. Essay about The Downfall of Macbeth
Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is the tragic tale of Macbeth, a virtuous
man, corrupted by power and greed. This tragedy can be classified by one of two
theories. One theory suggests that the tragic hero, Macbeth, is led down an
unescapable road of doom by an outside force; namely the three witches. The second
suggests that there is no supernatural force working against Macbeth, which
therefore makes him responsible for his own actions and inevitable downfall.
Macbeth is indeed responsible for his own actions which are provoked by Lady
Macbeth, the witches, his ambition, and an unwillingness to listen to his own
conscience. These forces had no direct control over his actions but simply pointed...

Macbeth then had to make a decision. He willingly chose to follow the path of
death and destruction. Lady Macbeth simply showed him that path. It is easy to
believe that the witches controlled Macbeth and made him follow a path of doom.
The predictions they give, coupled with their unholy ways suggest that they are in
control of him. They are not. It is admittedly strange that the weird sisters first
address Macbeth with, All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee Thane of Cawdor! (I, iii,
49), a title which not even Macbeth is aware he has been awarded. Even stranger is
the third witch calling to Macbeth, All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!
(I, iii, 50). Here it may seem as if the witches are using their supernatural powers to
control Macbeth s future. All they have done is foretold his future. A prophecy is
hardly an invitation to murder. Banquo hears the witches words and tells Macbeth:
The instruments of darkness tell us truths, Win us with honest trifles, to betray s In
deepest consequence (I, iii, 124 126) He is telling Macbeth not to be swayed by the
witches even though one of the prophecies has come true. It is a warning that
Macbeth ignores. He is so enraptured by the prophecies of the witches that he
consciously follows a path of darkness in an effort to fulfil the

Help From the Government What can be done to ensure that privacy and information
security are not violated? To combat this, the U.S government has created laws to
protect privacy and help reinforce information security. Many are starting to see
that with the creation of such laws, some are being enforced with only security in
mind, which means less privacy. At first when these laws were created it was all
about protecting the privacy of the American people. For example, take the Privacy
Act of 1974, which establishes a code of fair information practices that governs the
collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of information about individuals
that is maintained in systems of records by federal agencies. A system of records is
a group of records under the control of an agency from which information is

system of records absent the written consent of the individual, unless the disclosure is

radiation, less ecological diversity and cancer are a few of such harms that the world
has experienced. However, one of the most prominent concerns is the greenhouse

The protocol specifies five gases other than carbon dioxide which need to be
reduced. These greenhouse gases (methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons,
perfluorocarbons and sulphur hexafluoride) are generally referred to as carbon
dioxide equivalents. These six gases, including carbon dioxide, are widely blamed
for the increased intensity of the greenhouse effect. What happens is that, as the
sun s rays hit the earth they are either absorbed or reflected. The ones that are
absorbed heat the earth which cause it to emit infrared radiation. The infrared
radiation travels into the atmosphere where these greenhouse gases trap it, making
it unable to escape our atmosphere. Thus, the air becomes hotter and temperatures
all over the world can rise. It may not appear to be of great concern, but an increase
in temperature as small as five degrees can be devastating for humans. Some of the
main concerns regarding a temperature rise are, the rising of the sea levels which
will lead to island and coastline areas to be swallowed up by water, plants and
animals will no longer be able to live in their given environments and insects will
thrive which will cause the spread of disease. If world leaders though it was hard to
come to an agreement regarding carbon emissions, imagine trying to come up with a
solution to what would inevitably happen if environmental issues such as this

The Tragedy of Frankenstein and his Creature
Ever since its inception in 1818, Mary Shelley s Frankenstein has fueled the
imaginations of thousands of readers through its portrayal of conflicted scientist
Victor Frankenstein, and his neglected creation referred to as the Creature in its first
appearances, and later called the Monster. Though rich in storytelling, perhaps
Frankenstein s most enduring quality is its wide array of themes which touch upon
topics ranging from appearances to free will. It is, however, the themes of life,
consciousness, and existence which prevails as the story progresses. In
Frankenstein , Mary Shelley begs the reader to question the nature of Victor s
responsibility to the Creature, and his role as God or a godlike figure to his
Creation; as well as the state of our moral core during infancy until our introduction to
society.
The nature of Frankenstein s responsibility of the Creature spawns more questions
than it does answers. A child of Frankenstein s creative mind, the Creature is left to
fend off for itself against all impossible odds, which in turn, creates a void filled by
vengeance. The theme is prevalent throughout the story, especially upon first
introduction, where Frankenstein retells the story of his early childhood, and how
responsible his parents were of him, an ... innocent and helpless creature bestowed on
them by heaven, whom to bring up to good... (Shelley, page

they do not want to change. There are many cases that tough lovecauses deaths.
Instead of helping, it is harming a person. Since tough love often comes from a

generally guided by selfish motivations.

someone were to continuously point out a flaw, that is only going to make the
person feel worse about it, especially if they are trying to change it. Robin Tran
said, Tough love has caused irreparable damage to [her] psyche to the point where
[she] no longer believes [her] own feelings. Tough love makes a person feel even
lonelier than they felt before, more ashamed, and like a burden on everyone in
their life. When others who haven t experienced what someone else is going

across more arrogant than compassionate. The Recovery Help Desk writes, All too

In the 18th century, Chinese goods such as silk and porcelain were much desired by
European and had a huge demand in the Western market. In England, tea was the
most desired Chinese good and trade in tea was very lucrative. However, this created
a trade imbalance because Western goods had no market in China. China was a self

Apart from that, the merchants had a hard time getting into Chinese market and had
to deal through Chinese middlemen in Canton. At this point, the British money had

The British merchants were enraged by Zexu s action and demanded compensation
for their seized good. Initially, Superintendent Charles Elliot assured the merchant
traders the British government would be providing compensation for the seized
good. The British government, however, held the Chinese government responsible
for the seized opium. The British soon sent a fleet to China, with a list of demands.
The demands include compensation for the seized goods, right to trade without
middlemen, and an island to use as a base. Initially, the Chinese showed some
resistance and the British began their blockage. The British defeated most of the
Chinese resistance relatively easy and caused the Chinese life. The British moved

Incoming Freshman Advice
When I started high school, I didn t get much academic advice. Everybody told me
have fun, it flies by and boy were they right. What they didn t tell me was the
academic part. If I could go back in time, I wish I would have known and understood
how much you re freshman year really matters. In my experience, I goofed off in
most of my classes freshman year and got the grades I worked for, which were not
the best. Nobody told me that when colleges are looking at you, they can go all the
way back to freshman year and see your grades. I always figured I could have fun and
do whatever I wanted and just clean up my act by my sophomore year to prepare
myself for college. If I could give an incoming freshman

I do not understand why Felicia Hendrix, Probation Officer Manager would
encourage an employee to write a letter making false statements, defaming my
character of being a racist so that she can gain supervision of training Ms. Amibeth

extremely hurtful. I treat everyone the same regardless of their gender, raceor
nationality with professionalism and fairness.
1.I have heard through the gossip mill and Doreen Wyche that Felicia Hendrix told

that I was going to get mine. After evaluating this situation, it appears to be what
Felicia meant as to I was to get mine to get me fired!
5.This situation raises concern about my future career goals as the Probation

discriminated against, harassed and retaliated for performing my job as a Supervisor

In conclusion, my job as the Probation Supervisor is to provide supervision within

making me read most of My First Reader and the stock market quotations from The

more than faint distaste. Miss Caroline told me to tell my father not to teach me

when Ms. Caroline tells him to sit in his seat he snorts and taunts her. She

(renamed On the Origin of Species 13 years later) was published in London,
England. In it, Charles Darwin specified his observations and gave his insight on
what he thought caused evolution. He called it natural selection. Before this, nearly
everyone believed that a single God created every living organism that none of them
had changed a bit since then. Charles Darwins On the Origin of Species influenced
the minds of 1859 and impacted all of science. Charles Darwin was born to Robert

It was on these islands that Darwin noted that various birds, though the same
species, differed based on the different islands they resided on, most notably the

species could change over time, based on their location. Could a species change
because of the land, the climate, all of the things that can affect a species? On the
Origin of Species was a breakthrough at the time. It contained radical ideas that many
people weren t prepared to accept, the most widely known being that humans evolved
from apes. There are many important ideas contained within Darwin s book. The first
and foremost being: Darwin s belief that every species, living and extinct, originated
from one individual species. Following this belief, Darwin concluded that organisms
within a populace must compete for resources to survive. Also, the organisms within
those individual populations will then show deviations, such as differently shaped
beaks for different food sources. With these variations comes the inevitable fact that
certain organisms will gain enhancements that will improve its ability to compete for
resources or survive adversity. Considering this, it is no surprise that Darwin also
theorized that those organisms with beneficial variations were more likely to survive
and pass their characteristics

probation officers are men, it is very rare to see women doing the duties of a man.
Historically, criminal justice agencies have been characterized as male dominated
organizations. However, the presence of females in the criminal justice arena is

Abstract As China rose to become one of the world s largest trading partners
following its accession to the WTO, the country also began to face intense pressure
from the international community to abide by standards on intellectual property
rights. Specifically, China has strengthened its legal framework and amended its IPR
laws and regulations to comply with the WTO Agreement on Trade Related
Intellectual PropertyRights (TRIPS). Copyrightprotection is one area that China has

The firm estimated that China s online video revenue increased 41.9 percent in
2013, reaching about $2 billion. In contrast, China s traditional TV industry has
suffered a sharp decline. In 2012 only 30% of households in Beijing watched TV,
down from 70% three years earlier (The Economist, 2013).
However, the gains from the expanding industry come with high costs. Avoiding
licensing costs from foreign production companies, many Chinese Internet video
companies had become a haven for illicit American shows and hit South Korean soap
operas. The illegal distribution of foreign content on these websites was an undoing
to China s endeavor to ascent to a strong intellectual property country. Amidst
criticisms from the right holders in the international community, China has tightened
its regulations against copyright infringement on online video streaming websites.
Another rationale behind the government s commitment to fighting copyright piracy
is to protect domestic TV stations against the rampant popularity of foreign TV shows
online. The Chinese government hopes that through an enforcement of IPR, China s
TV industry will see a reduce in the invasion of foreign TV shows due to high
licensing costs and thus an increase in the production of domestic popular ones.

Headquarters is in Memphis, Tennessee in the US. The company became well
known for its fast and reliable delivery service around the world. On its first night of
operation FedEx delivered 186 bundles to 25 urban locations in the US with only
389 employees and a 15 Dassault Falcon aircraft. In 1980 FedEx purchased a
system for live updates on the packages. In this system, FedEx drivers share the
current locations from the trucks to provide updates of the packages to the
customers. This information was sent to a central computer of FedEx then the
company improved the update system by introducing FedEx.com webpage. This
webpage allowed the tracking data to be easily accessible. However, recently, FedEx
uses Savvy bundle for packing and tracking the products across couriers. (Baldwin,

Elephant Man
Comparative Analytical Text Essay
The Twins of Siam and The Elephant Man
Essay question:
People who are physically disabled all lead similar lives.
Do the Twins of Siam and the Elephant Man show this to be true?
The Elephant Man is the true story of Joseph Merrick s life from Tim Vicary s novel.
Joseph Merrick was born in London in 1862 and later, he developed a disease that
made him disabled. The Twins of Siam is a short text about Change and Eng, who
were the conjoined twins, born in Thailand in 1811. These characters in both stories
are all disabled and lived in the 18th century. Even though they all experience
physical disabilities, Joseph Merrick s life does not have a lot in common with
Chang and Eng s. While they are all physically disabled and stared at by others,
Joseph s life is more miserable since he suffers more abuse than the twins do.
However, Joseph Merrick and the twins all have some happiness experiences in their
lives, but he experiences more loneliness and misery than Chang and Eng. Although
these three men feel frustrated because of their disabilities, they all find some
activities that they enjoy and make the best of their lives.
While Merrick, Chang and Eng are all physically disabled and stared at by others,
Joseph s life is more pathetic since he suffers more abuse than the twins do.
Unfortunately, Merrick has been humiliated and treated terribly by a man called
Silcock in his early days, and he has no way of escaping his miserable life. When

Subsequently, the films we viewed in the class have affected me in four gifts of the
humanities. As a student, my interests have developed around the social issues of
classism and racism in America. Therefore, the course has given me food for thought
via films which tackle social issues causing me to rethink the ways I understand these
issues as well as understand filmrhetoric to gain a deeper knowledge of how society
understood these problems. Cinema also allows viewers to gain a sense of the past,
this is especially true of the course since the films we ve watched were opened 1959
or before. In this way, I have been able to understand historical events (such as the
dust bowl, the great depression, and the red scare) through characters who are
relatable, causing me to understand that though time and geography may differ
between me and these characters, there exist timeless truths of humanity. The
course has also allowed me to extend myself intellectually. Before enrolling in this
course, I had little knowledge about cinema and its place in our society. The course
has provided me with a new found appreciation for the art of film which is an
important subject in academia rather than just an elective. Lastly, I have realized the
idea of the infinite person, via this film course. Through the films viewed in class, I
have found myself relating to characters I regularly would not have. For

qualities after his good friend Caesar was stabbed in the back, literally, by their

The book Gang Leader for a Day by Sudhir Venkatesh is and interesting insight into
the life of a gang member, as well as people who live in the projects. When reading
this book, several sociological things stood out to me, however three things really
captured my mind. Those included social class differences, racial discrimination, and
power conflict theory. The book begins with a college student, Sudhir Venkatesh
going into the projects to interview poor African Americans on how life was for
them. After a run in with the local gangthere, he meets the leader of the gang JT,
who tells him if he wants to get to know the people who live in the projects, he has
to hang out with them. Sudhir takes JT up on his offer and begins to run around
with JT to observe how the gang works, and how people live in the projects. Sudhir
observed JT in most of his gang aspects, including their selling of crack, how they ran
the gang like a business, and how they kept peace with the surrounding neighborhood.

This meant people in the project could not get rid of the gang, and therefore were
subject to its leadership. And the main thing the gang liked to do was tax people.
As a car washer, Michael explained it, he and Kris paid T Bone (a gang member)
15 percent of their weekly revenue. Just as J.T. s foot soldiers squeezed a little
money from squatters and prostitutes, his higher ranked officers supplemented
their income with more substantial taxes. (Venkatesh 88). JT and the gang taxed
anyone and everyone who worked or lived in the projects. It wasn t just the gang

36. Taking a Look at Operation Anaconda
Operation Anaconda was the largest battle fought in Afghanistan by conventional
forces. It took place after US Special Forces aligned with Afghan forces from the
Northern alliance ran bombing campaigns that crushed the Taliban in late 2001. The
operation would take place in the Shahikot valley which had peaks that were
anywhere around 8,000 to 12,000 feet. The high altitude, rocky terrain and the cold
weather prove difficult for air assault missions in the area of operations (AO) and for
conventional forces that were not trained for combat operations at such high altitudes
and cold weather.
In mid January the US Intelligence community noticed the massing of a sizeable Al
Qaeda force moving towards the Shahikot valley in Southeastern Afghanistan.
Planning began for an operation to strike at the Al Qaeda troops before they could
become a hindrance for future operations, the local populace as well block rat routs
out of Afghanistan. But the tribes in this part of Afghanistan were considerably less
friendly to America than the Northern Alliance. The reason for bringing in
Conventional forces for Operation Anaconda, in which previous operations were
mainly Special Operation led was the unreliable Afghan fighters. The lack of
confidence in the Afghan fighters in that part of the country was partly to blame for
the failure to trap the Al Qaeda forces in Tora Bora and expectedly through
inexperience and neglect let Osama Bin Laden (UBL) possibly escape in a rat route

The Atomic bombs released on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan by an American B 29

States and Soviet Union served as allies against the Axis Powers. Though this wasn t
the only alliance standing against Japan, Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria; The
United States and USSR s relationship at this point in history was controversial
because the two nations never completely trusted each other although fighting

(Michiko 385). A civilian who was exposed to the atomic bomb, Yamamoka

was dropped. Her description of the cities ruins gives us an idea of just how brutal
and horrific the nuclear weapon turned to be. Not only did the United States
privately construct such a ruthless weapon, but also used the Atomic Bomb as an
unfortunate way to instantaneously end WWII. The United States decision to
bomb Japan was seen as directed against the Soviet Union because during this time,
Stalin had moved troops to the far East in order to enter war with Japan to secure

40. Similarities And Weaknesses Of The Civil War
The Civil War The North and South had many different weaknesses and strengths at
the beginning of the Civil War in 1861. This essay will compare the political,
economic, social and military strengths and weaknesses of the North and South at the
beginning of the Civil War. There were many reasons for the War of the States to be
fought including, but not limited to slavery, separation of states, the Constitution, and
the way of life. The North and South had many political strengths and weaknesses.
The South had an amazing fighting spirit because they were fighting to preserve their
way of life. They were also defending their home against the northern invaders. While
the North was just fighting to continue the Union, and were not as inspired.
Furthermore the North had the advantage of President Lincoln being from the North,
when the South did not. The South had less states in its Confederacy with only a
mere fifteen states, versus the North who had nineteen states in their Union. Lincoln
believed that secession was illegal under the law of the Constitution and he would
declare war against the rebelling states if necessary. For the first time in American
history, Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus, the right of prisoners to a trial,
ergo the Union could arrest citizens who might have been southern sympathizers. The
North and South had many economic strengths and weaknesses. The South had many

41. Surrogacy Should Be Allowed In The United States
Surrogacy should be allowed in every state in the United States because it is some
womens only option to have a child. The Akanksha Clinic in Gujarat has drawn
praise from Oprah Winfrey for making mother dreams come true. Left unsaid is that
these dreams come at a cost: surrogate mothers from very poor are forced to live in
rooms with 10 to 15 other mothers, away from families, for most of their pregnancy
(Persons, Not Products). Women are so desperate to have children they will go
under terrible living conditions to bear a child for another woman. Some women
have illnesses where they are not able to have children, but still want children. If a
woman is having a hard time conceiving chances are she has an illness that prevents
her from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government does not always make surrogacy safe and surrogacy can be a very
dangerous thing. Surrogacy can get very dangerous because there is always risks
for pregnancies and when something bad does happen the families will argue and
it will be a bad situation which is why it should not be allowed at all (Surrogate
Motherhood). Surrogacy should not be allowed at all it is a danger to our world
and is offensive to religions. Surrogacy is bad for children. When kids grow up
they will be confused on who their real parents are. It can be very scarring for
children because they will wonder why that would ever have to happen and how it
happened. Surrogacy can be very awkward for children when they grow up. It can
lead to a very confusing relationship between the child and the mother and no child
should ever have to go through a damaging experience like that (Surrogate
Motherhood). The act of surrogacy is against many religions beliefs and many
religions do not like surrogacy happening around the world. Church leaders share
these concerns and are working to stymie commercial surrogacy legislation in states
across the nation (Persons, Not Products). Surrogacy is especially bad because
women who bear another child for another woman or person can get money from it
and getting money from another human being for a child is offensive. Churches are
against all kinds of surrogacy and think it is against the bible. They are especially
against commercial surrogacy because it is like slavery. Humans should not be given
to another family involving money it is very inhumane. The Roman Catholic Church
is just one of many religions that does not like the idea of surrogacy. It is very
inhuman, even if it does not involve money. Commercial surrogacy can be found to
be very offensive because a woman should never bear another child for a different
family (Surrogate
42. The Importance Of Operant Conditioning
Operant Conditioning Within the early 19th Century, Edward Throne like conducted
experiments on dogs and cats to determine the way these animals behave under
certain conditions. These studies were conducted through replicating and
standardizing the circumstances that the animals were in through a controlled
environment. As such, this model demonstrated that animals had the nature to learn
when they were presented with certain consequences. In 1938, Burrhus Friederich (B.
F.) developed the core idea of the Operant ConditioningSkinner, which claims that
operant conditioning, was brought about by the response from the operant under
threat (Sakagami, Lattal, 2016). Some factors were involved in the increase of the
operant conditioning especially when Edward Thorndike was examining the behavior
of cats and rats. It was necessary to consider the problem solving abilities of these
animals within puzzle boxes that would otherwise lead the animals in a state of
constraint. Moreover, there was a need to understand the relationship exhibited
between the appropriate reaction to the individual situation and the associated
strengths to the same. Moreover, other factors such as the ability of the animals to
learn under the conditions presented as was later proven by Skinner.
The core principles that are important in understanding the operant conditioning and
how it may result in the retention offer includes the operant variability where the
individual may experience emitted behavioral
43. Graneer Systems
Identification of the Strategic Issue
Graneer Systems needs to determine the attractiveness of the Indian water
purification market and determine the best mode of entry. Graneer needs to
determine what life cycle the industry is in, how many competitors exist and what are
their competitive strategies, what are the forces in the broad environment and how
are they going to inhibit or promote market entry. Graneer also needs to determine the
best product design for entering this market and a pricing strategy.
Listing of Alternative Courses of Action

Also, the sales staff has limited access to large urban areas. The company
introduced another purifier, the PureSip, which is sold in appliance stores.
Aquaguard is also technologically limited as it is wall mounted and requires a
specific voltage. o Ion Exchange has 7% of the market with its Zero B purifying
system. The company does not spend on advertising and suffers from lack of brand
awareness. However, it has been in the industry for 30 years and has intense R D
investments. Ion Exchange could capture more market share by increasing marketing
efforts. o Singer is a US company but a portion of it is owned by Indian investors.
Its water purifier, the Aquarius, uses components developed by NASA and 100%
effective against bacteria, has state of the art design, is portable and requires only
water pressure, and can last 4 to 6 years in the typical Indian household. Singer has
superior distribution channels compared to its competitors, and is an established
brand in India. o Unit sales for all other competitors, and including Singer and Zero
B accounts for around 60,000 units in 2000. Aquaguards and PureSips accounts for
the remaining 190,000 units. o At least 100 candle filter companies. o Chatterjee

metropolitan areas.

A Wonderfulle Hystorie of Ye Rennownned Princesse These days, a burlesque
show is considered a series of ladies dancing and singing in quite a sensual way, but
this idea of burlesque shows has been revisited and revived over the years. In the
nineteenth century, for instance, a burlesque was a type of show that parodied
popular performers, plays, literature, and whatnot in a comically exaggerated way.
Consider today s modern version: Saturday Night Live. In that day, one of the most
popular topics of culture was the Native American culture, due to the considerable
conflict ensuing between the Natives and the American settlers pushing west.
Americans both feared the so called savages and were intrigued by their natural way
of life. From this intrigue, the legend of Pocahontas became a major icon for
literature. John Brougham an actor, manager, and playwright took the popular icon of
Pocahontas, and created a burlesque afterpiece that would live to become both the
most popular burlesque of its kind, and the end all be all of the Indian fascination on
the American stage. The story less than accurately portrays the story of Pocahontas,
including the marriage of Captain John Smith and Pocahontas, but only after he wins
her hand in a card game. Originally, Pocahontas father, Chief Powatan, had
Pocahontas engaged to a Dutchman named Mynheer Rolff, meant to represent the
historical character of John Rolfe,
45. The Dredging And The Effects Of Erosing At Port Phillip
Bay
Since the 2009 dredge project, only one big ship that the dredge was
accommodating for has come into the bay. The purpose of the 2009 dredge was to
allow larger ships come into the bay as it was to shallow, but since then only one has
come through making it almost not worth it considering the effects it s had on the
bay. Effects came on within two weeks
After the dredging in 2009 occurred effects from the procedure were seen within
just two weeks, all being negative. Some longterm effects include loss of beaches
and marine life. Portsea beach for example is no longer a beach and now the
government is spending millions of dollars in sandbags to attempt to stop the beach
from degrading even more. Erosion is slowly destroying the coast and ... Show more

Importantly, light penetration to the beds remained good. Mick Keough says
seagrass has the ability to survive on energy stores within the plant for periods of
time, so if plants had been distressed during dredging, the effect might not show for
years .
Yarra River Toxins
The Yarra River has been around since 1835 and is still around today, in the heart of
Melbourne. Although, there has been a significant build up of toxic from the
CSIRO uranium processing near the Yarra River ( from 1940s to 1960s) and a
40+ year history of contamination of the site at 506 Lorimer St. Over the years the
Yarra had built up a decent amount of chemicals and toxins. The 2009 dredging
project was removing and dumping the toxic sediment from the Yarra into the bays
dumpsites. This evidently decreased the quality of the water and affects the marine
life and their habitats, our beaches and us and people who swim in this now
contaminated water. There is now high levels of toxins in local fish, eels and
mussels. In January 2017, 36 beaches were deemed unsafe to swim in due to high
levels of faecel pollution. This shows how much the water quality is demeaning over
time due to humans and global warming. Source:

The Case for Change at Toyota Motor Corporation Process Identification and
Improvement Plan
____________________________________________________________________________
Unit 1 Assignment 1 MBA 6022 Lynette D. Capella University Abstract This
Process Identification and Improvement Plan will begin with a summary of the
Toyota Motor Corporation and core commitment to safety, quality and volume. It
will also refer to the case study review titled Toyota: The Accelerator Crisis (2010),
by Greto, Schotter, and Teagarden for a synopsis of the accelerator and automobile
recall crisis that affected the company s reputation, image and near financial collapse.
It also identifies two distinct process areas have been targeted for... Show more

Thus, Toyota failed to comply with federal law in its foreign subsidiary and failed
to report such safety defects to the proper government regulators within five
business days. (Greto, M., Schotter, A., TeaGarden, M., 2010) (CNN, 2010) The
President, CEO and grandson of the founding father, Aki Toyoda emphasized I
fear the pace at which we have grown may have been to quick. I would like to point
out here that Toyota s priority has traditionally been the following: First, Safety;
Second, Quality and Third, Volume. These priorities became confused, and we
were not able to stop, think and make improvements as much as we were able to
before, and our basic stance to listen to customers voices to make better products
has weakened somewhat. We pursued growth over the speed at which were able to
develop our people and our organization, and we should sincerely be mindful of that.
I regret that this has resulted in the safety issues described in the recalls we face
today, and I am deeply sorry for any accidents that Toyota drivers have experienced.
(Greto, M., Schotter, A., TeaGarden, M., 2010) Importance to Toyota: Considering
the case study, Toyota s current reputation and status in the global market is marked
with recalls due to defective parts, malfunctions and safety risks numerous lawsuits
and fines
47. The Economic, Military and Political Power of the Union...
The economic, military, and political power of the Union was much greater than the
Confederacy. Still, the war did go on for four years. The Confederacy demonstrated
itself strong many times. Throughout the war the struggles continuously shifted, and
because of that, so did the economic, military, and political strength of both sides.
Although both sides saw accomplishments of military successes, at the end of the
war, the bigger economy of the north, centralized government and overpowering
manpower would eventually lead to a northern victory. In 1863, it was up in the air
because either the Union or the Confederacy could have won the war, but the
Confederacy did not have enough manpower to outlast the Union in a drawn out war.
The Union was seemingly far more advanced in terms of industrialization compared
to the South. The North was in control of about 80% of United States industry
(McPherson, 24). Also, most of the Confederate industry was not located in the Deep
South but rather the Upper South, mostly in Virginia. After Deleware, West Virginia
,
Kentucky and Maryland joind the Uninion, the Confederacy continued to lose large
amounts of possible industry and manpower. The Confederacy lost these states due to
the clever politics of the North such as the state of Maryland, as it was to the
opposition within certain states such as West Virginia. With the loss of these four
states the confederate industry would start to decline and could not compete with the
industry in the
48. What Is The Alter Ego In Peaceful Warrior
Self vs. Alter Ego The film Peaceful Warrior, directed by Victor Salva, is based on
Dan Millman and his journey to become the best. However, Dan struggles to
become the best because of his alter ego. Socrates tries to teach Dan that his ego is
a weakness and could get him hurt. Dan eventually does get hurt but even then, his
stubborn alter ego gets in his way. He must learn to let the stubborn side of himself
go if he wants to succeed. The first event in Peaceful Warrior that shows Dan has a
stubborn alter ego is when he is in the gym practicing. His coach, Coach Garriek is
complimenting everyone in the gym. Then Dan attempts the triple flip before landing
but he fails. Coach Garriek tries to explain to Dan that the trick has never been done
before and he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second event is when Dan gets into a motorcycle accident. Dan is riding his
bike fast down the road. Then a car pulls out in front of him and he crashes. He
lands hard on his leg and he is rushed to the hospital. You did not just break your
leg, you shattered it. The doctor wants to explain it to Dan but he is completely in
denial about the situation. Dan should not have been riding his motorcycle so fast
down the highway. He did it because his stubborn alter ego made him think he
could. The third and final example is when Dan finally talks to Coach Garriek
after six months of recovery. He sees the coach walking by and stops him. Dan
tries to negotiate with Coach Garriek on when he can come back. Coach Garriek
wants Dan to come back but he cannot because of his leg. Dan, I talked to your
doctors, you will never do this again. After the coach said that Dan stormed off. He
goes into the trophy room and stands there and stares at the trophies. He uses his
cane that he has after the accident and smashes all the trophies. Dan should be
patient and wait on the healing process. Dan should let go of his stubborn alter ego if
he wants to succeed.
49. Bowling Ethnography
Heather Dooley 10 Pound Balls We tend to think that bowling is a very simple and
boring sport played by only older men. I did my fieldwork at a bowling alley
during two different leagues to explore the different social interactions among
bowlers. I learned that bowling is not limited to one specific age group or gender. I
also discovered there is a unique hierarchy among the bowlers that is not determined
by their age or gender. This social status is dependent upon their bowling average,
type of ball used, and the weight of their balls. I found there were many other social
interactions that occurred between smaller groups of bowlers such as teammates. I
first entered the field during a Wednesday night bowling league. The... Show more

Some men used them as a way to brag to the other men. They would say the reason
another man is bowling so bad is because he has a bad, cheap ball. I also noticed
the men bowlers would use the weight of their balls to poke fun at the other
bowlers. They will compare their ball s weight to their manhood or manliness. For
instance, Wow, you re only using that little ten pound ball. Did you borrow that
from your girlfriend? Careful carrying that big sixteen pound ball you might not be
big enough for that yet. [pic] There are many different kinds of socialization
among the bowlers. They joke and tease each other, give tips on how to bowl
better and they also play card games with their teammates. There are two different
types of games played among the different leagues. On Wednesday night they play
a game called Kiddy Pot. This is a money game played by the men bowlers only
that corresponds to how well you are playing. If you miss the five pin, throw a
gutter ball, or miss the head pin twice you lose a dollar. If you are hung, which in
bowling terms means four members of your team strike or split during the same
frame but one does not, then the person who misses the strike loses two dollars. If
all five members of the team strike during the frame, the next frame whoever misses
the strike loses a dollar. At the end of the season all of the money lost playing this
50. Weaknesses Of The Articles Of Confederation
The Revolutionary War victory that was won by the American colonies came as a
shock to both Americans and the rest of the world. This near impossible win sparked
inspiration in many countries, including the French who fired up their own bloody
revolution less than ten years later. However, many precarious steps were taken by
the Americans in order to get as far as they did. Published after the Declaration of
Independence and in order to convince France that a government was in the making, a
constitution was appointed by the Second Continental Congress to be written by a
committee. The Articles of Confederationwere finished in 1777 and lastly ratified by
Maryland in 1781. Though the document was needed at the time in order to help
govern the budding nation, the Articles had many flaws that needed new finishing.
Overall, the Articles of Confederation were terribly ineffective at solving any of the
problems, such as debt, that confronted the new United Statesof America after the
Revolutionary War. Because of the lack of congressional authority and the
overwhelming power of the states granted within the document, the Articles of
Confederation highlighted a loose friendship of states as opposed to a tight knit
union. One of the main problems within the Articles of Confederation was the fact
that it purposefully established a weak central government. This was done for the sole
reasoning that it was a belief among the common people that a strong national
government would abuse
51. Similarities Between Humans And Hesiods
These two tales are the accounts of the beginning and creation of the earth and
humans. In genesis it tells the story of how god created the heavens, earth, and
everything that lives on the earth. Then it describes how god created the first man
named Adam, The God decides that Adam needs a companion and creates eve. In
Hesiods thoegony It starts with Chaos and then Cronos ( Chasos son) overthrows
Chaos and then Zeus, Posideon, And Hades overthrowes Cronos. So everything in
genesis begins with God, In the theogony everything begins with Chaos and then
there is a series of sons overthrowing their fathers and then we finally get to Zeus
creating humans. Zeus created five races of man. The first was the golden race, these
men were perfect and eventually
52. Physics Of The Accident Investigation
Based on the annual global road crash statistics, nearly 1.3 million people die in
road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. More than half of all road
traffic deaths occur among young adults ages 15 44. The top causes of vehicular
accidents are distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving and many
more. Having said that, investigations are needed to be able to analyze the causes of
the accident. In such cases, it cannot be denied that science is directly involved to
fully know the extent and circumstance of an accident. Therefore, it is sufficient to
say that specifically, physics, as science, plays an important role in police
investigations. Furthermore, it can be said that policemen are accountable to utilize
physics in their investigations. Investigations begin by surveying the accident site. To
be able to apply Physics into the accident investigations, the first step must involve
getting data from the environment and accident site. As such, necessary variables
must be first obtained to be able to apply certain Physics concepts into the
investigation. Variables can be in the form of (1) primary observations and (2)
measurement variables and evidences from the accident or crashsite. First, to be able
to explicate the needed information to apply Physics concept, police investigators
must first obtain a basic viewpoint of the crash site. Specific observations must be
noted down to be able to complete the variables needed for Physics
53. Arms Of An Angel Ethos Pathos Logos
This short yet powerful commercial video is released by ASPCA in 2007 to raise
the awareness of animal abuse in the US. The commercial starts with a series of
small clips of wounded and dirty animals in cages and boxes, some with visible
scars in their eyes. While these clips are played, Sara McLachlan s song Arms of an
Angel is playing solemnly in the background. The commercial is aimed to persuade
its audience to join and make donations to ASPCA for saving animals that are
abandoned and abused by humans.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the methods of persuasion that are used in this
commercial, and how the use of ethos, pathos, and logos has made the commercial
from ASPCA persuasive and successful.
First of all, the commercial has accomplished successfully of building its ethos
(credibility). The ad is made by ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals), a non profit organization that receives monthly donations for
saving animals from being abused or ignored. (Wikipedia) From ASPCA s website,
you can find its organizational structures, annual financial statements, policies and
positions, etc. It provides a transparent way to process and broadcast organization
resources. By doing this, for a person who is trying to donate, he/she can make sure
the money is spent for a good reason.
This commercial has established more credibility by using a famous singer, Sarah
McLachlan, as the spokesperson. Besides music, McLachlan is an activist for
