Rhetorical Devices In The Jungle
Rhetorical Analysis of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle The Jungle, being a persuasive novel in nature, is
filled with different rhetorical devices or tools used by Sinclair to effectively convey his message.
Sinclair s goal of encouraging change in America s economic structure is not an easy feat and Sinclair
uses a number of different rhetorical devices to aid him. Through his intense tone, use of periodic
sentencing, descriptive diction and other tools of rhetoric, Upton Sinclair constructs a moving novel
that makes his message, and the reasoning behind it, clear.Sinclair s use of periodic sentences allows
him to cram details and supporting evidence into his sentence before revealing his interpretation of the
evidence. Take for example, Here ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Exposure Therapy Compared to Other Therapies
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), specifically exposure therapy, has garnered a great deal of
empirical support in the literature for the treatment of anxiety disorders (Gerardi et al., 2010).
Exposure therapy is an established PTSD treatment (Chambless Ollendick, 2001) and so is a
benchmark for comparing other therapies (Taylor et al, 2003). Exposure therapy typically involves the
patient repeatedly confronting the feared stimulus in a graded manner, either in imagination or in vivo.
Emotional processing is an essential component of exposure therapy (Gerardi et al., 2010). Exposure
therapy in the virtual environment allows the participant to experience a sense of presence in an

The patients used it this design were outpatients referred in 1992 through 1995 by professionals,
Victim Support, police, ambulance, fire services, and even the subjects themselves. The criteria that
had to be met in order for the subjects to be used in this study were as followed: PTSD for 6 or more
months; age of 16 to 65 years; and absence of melancholia or suicidal intent, organic brain disease,
past or present psychosis, antidepressant drug (unless the patient had been receiving a stable dose for 3
or more months); and diazepam in a dose of 10 mg/d or more or equivalent, ingestion of 30 or more
alcohol units a week, and past exposure or cognitive therapy for PTSD (Marks et al., 1998). The
therapist used a procedure manual and 4 treatment manuals which covered each session in each
treatment condition. The sessions were audiotaped and each individual session lasted either 90
minutes or 105 minutes in Exposure Combined with Cognitive Restructuring (EC) therapy. The
therapists that were used were a nurse therapist and a clinical psychologist. In sessions 1 through 5 of
Exposure Therapy subjects were asked to imagine their previous trauma memories. Patients were
asked to talk in first person tense about what they experienced, and then were asked to imagine and

Edgar Allen Poe s Tell-Tale Heart
What would you call a murder? Do you think that killing an old man for some unnecessary reason a
murder? I for one think that the narrator is a dangerous man and is guilty of murdering the old man. In
Edgar Allen Poe Tell Tale Heart , the narrator had mental issues because he heard voices, plotted to
kill and he cut up a body.
But would if he wasn`t in the right mind because of his disease? Even if that was the case, as long as
he is still free, he could do bad things. He killed an innocent old man just because he had an
intimidating eye. Most people would`ve just avoid looking at it. Be this man killed him because of it.
This guilty man actually planned and stalked this old man for days before killing him. That means that

Confirmation Letter To The Bishop
Dear, Your Excellency,
I, {****}, a member of [*PARISH NAME AND LOCATION*], ask you, Bishop Grahmann, to
confirm me as a member of the Roman Catholic Church. I would like to receive the sacrament
because I want to become an active member and participant in the Catholic Church. After I have
received it, I will be recognized as a full member of the Catholic Community, enabling me to be
involved in the parish with more depth. As a confirmed individual, I will be better able to participate
in many events within my church community. Receiving Confirmation will also allow me to be closer
to God.
My preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation has been incredible. There were times when it

But usually it is because God has something better in store for us. During my preparation, I was able
to discover more about my true self. It was as if I was looking at myself from above. I deepened my
faith and felt closer to God every moment I heard something new.
I have chosen {******} to present me to you on the day of my Confirmation and to witness my
commitment. I made a choice to be Confirmed because it is something I feel strongly about. When one
choses to be confirmed, one is saying that the reason one goes to church is because one wants to, and
not because one is being taken there. By choosing to be Confirmed, I am also choosing to love Jesus
forever.
You will seal my commitment to Jesus and his church by anointing me with oil and by calling me by
my name. The name I wish to be called at my Confirmation is Augustine. I have chosen that name
because, like Saint Augustine of Hippo, there were times when I had doubts of what my faith was
about. But ever since I ve been preparing for my Confirmation, my eyes have opened and I no longer
believe because I ve been told to believe. I ve felt God with me. I ve noticed everything that God does
for me. And I m anxious to share that feeling with others who have wandered away from the path to
our Lord.
I understand that the gifts of the Holy Spirit will help me build up the church, and I wish to share in

The Pros And Disadvantages Of Modern Test Taking

Modern Test Taking
There have been many studies done to figure out which of the many testing styles allow students to
both retain more information and help elevate some of the pre exam stress, while at the same time not
putting too much work on the professor. Out of all the styles that have been tested, two of the most
common styles that constantly rival each other are the open book test vs. the closed book tests. Many
teachers still cling to the traditional closed books test.
A closed book test is a test where students are expected to study their note before a test is given and
try their very best to memorize everything that they can fit into their heads in order to successfully
pass the test, then go into the exam with nothing but the pencil in their hand and the test on their desk.
An open book test, is a test that allows students to bring either their notes or something that can be
written on such as a sheet of paper or a note card that was given to the student before the exam.
Both of these exam types have a wide range of both advantages and disadvantages.
One of the most common disadvantages that is often mentioned for closed book exams is the fact that
as far as the real world is concerned, closed book test are unrealistic. For many subjects the idea of
doing a task with nothing but the sole information in someone s head would be seen as not only absurd
but actually careless. An example of this absurdity and

Frankenstein and the Environment
The environment has a lot to say in Marry Shelly s Frankenstein. It seems to reflect somewhat what is
going on emotionally with Victor in the story. Victor finds solace in solitude with nature, and appears
to use it as a coping mechanism to escape from the horrors of his life. Nature also ties into how the
monster Victor has created feels, but in a much different way than it does for him. Victor becomes ill
sometime during the story after he leaves home and goes off to study at college. It is assumed by his
father that he will feel better after being with his family and Elizabeth, the woman who he will later
marry. But really all Victor wants is to take a breath of fresh air alone, showing how he truly feels
about solitude and the environment. It makes the reader wonder what he really cares about, and if he
even misses his family. We passed a fortnight in these perambulations: my health and spirits had long
been restored, and they gained additional strength from the salubrious air I breathed, the natural
incidents of our progress . . . Throughout everything that happens to Victor in the book. Including the
death of his mother, brother, Elizabeth, and his father. All that seems to calm him is his return to
nature. I discovered more distinctly the black sides of Jura, and the bright summit of Mount Blanc; I
wept like a child: Dear mountains! my own beautiful ale! how do you welcome your wanderer? Your
summits are clear; the sky and lake are blue and placid. Is this to

was illegal to manufacture or distribute beer, wine, or other intoxicating malt or vinous liquors it was
not illegal to possess it for medicinal or sacramental use. The provision allowed Americans to possess
alcohol in their homes and partake with family and guests as long as it stayed inside and was not
distributed, traded or even given away to anyone outside the home. Another interesting provision to
prohibition was that alcohol was available via a physician s prescription. For centuries liquor had been
used for medicinal purposes, in fact many of the liquors we know today were first developed as
miracle cures for various ailments. Liquor and wine licensed for medicinal purposes often wound up
in the hands and stomachs of healthy citizens. Because of this established belief that liquor could cure
and prevent a variety of ailments, doctors were still able to prescribe liquor to patients on a specially

Social expectations mold individual circumstances. Edie, a fifteen year old housemaid in the lower
class of society has qualities and talents that demonstrate a skill set of aristocracy. Have a house
without pie, be ashamed until you die is a quoted statement that Edie s mother used to say to her that
Mrs. Peebles was not very familiar with. Edie was astonished when Mrs. Peebles admitted that she

An interrogation erupted and Ms. Kelling soon dug out answers from Edie, who was not going to lie,
or deny that any intimate action took place. Instead of releasing her anger at Mr. Watters, who left
without warning and cheated on her, she instantly addresses her anger to Edie with curses along with
many other demeaning words. Ms. Kelling speaks to Edie as she should have known she was going to
take such actions with Mr. Watters, as she said I am not surprised, I knew by the look of her as soon as
I saw her . Ms. Kelling is judging Edie based on her social class, calling her a little country tramp ,
inferring that all women of that class are good for nothing and worthless. When someone is
knowledgeable and feels acquainted with dealing amidst a certain stage or point in life, they tend to be
more successful than someone who feels out of place or inexperienced. In the story, Edie stated that
her parents made the effort and sent her to high school, but she could not cope with the atmosphere
after a year of trying which resulted in her failure. Edie is a smart girl, although shown as naive in the
story, she shines in places where even the educated might not. She illustrates her experience in
cooking and creativity, where people even of a higher class cannot show. People who are educated
may look down at others and expect them to fail at certain things that they believe cannot be done by
someone who is not knowledgeable.

Anti War Movement Essay
Anti War Movement
During the year of 1965 the Vietnam War made an impact of negativity on the United States. Anti war
protests began to roar and break out in December of 1969 when the government held a draft lottery
where they would pull drafting cards to send men over to Vietnam to fight. Because so many
Americans were against the war it caused protesters to burn their drafting cards. While the vietnam
war lasted a little over 8 years, making it the 6th longest It had only been heard of for a short time

That accord brought victory to the table for America and South vietnam. The United States decided to
back up the victory by making a pledge to provide the South Vietnam with any surplus they may ever
need to defend themselves against the North.
Unfortunately in the following year of 1974 Nixon resigned his years in office due to the charges he
knew that later would come against him. Because of Nixon resigning office, three months later, during
the November congressional elections, the democrats brought victory to the new congress. The issue
then was that the majority of the new members used their power to defund the pledge we made to
South Vietnam back in 73. Or course there were people fighting this. President Ford gave a speech
directly to congress, begging them to not rid of the promise we made to South Vietnam. Many of the
congress members left the room during the speech given by the president. So many congress workers
didn t support the Pledge because in earlier years many of them were protesters against the war
therefore, they wouldn t support the aid. Which in reality caused more pain to South Vietnam when
North vietnam invaded them once again, and we stayed out, we went back on our word and the south

Analysis Of Boo Radley
He just might be watching all the townspeople through their windows. Staring in the dark night. All
anyone knows of him is what they have heard through rumors. Is all the gossip true, or is Boo Radley
just a tall tale? In literature, authors use dynamic characters to leave readers asking questions and
wanting more. Similar to how Harper Lee uses Boo Radley in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, to
display tension throughout the story, by having him slowly transform from an ominous monster, to a
true mystery, and eventually, a hero. From the start of the novel, Boo is automatically perceived as a
horrific beast that preys on the innocent people of Maycomb County, yet everything anyone knows of
the man is based off speculation. For instance, the narrator provides her questionable knowledge of
Boo when she informs readers that he is, a malevolent phantom that is auspiciously known for lurking
in the night to [peep] in [residents] windows (Lee 10). If this rumor about Boo is true, readers should
have a growing concern for all the people in the town, especially because no one has a clue what Boo
s appearance resembles. He has not left his home in the light of day for countless years. This man
could be real trouble. Later, rumors seem to be confirmed by town gossip, Miss Stephanie Crawford
when she recalls a time when she awoke in the middle of the night to find Boo s skull of a face staring
right at her through her window (Lee 16). Even though Miss Stephanie is known to be

Popper Falsification
Popper termed the idea of falsification as a means of separating science from non science. The
separation of science and non science became known as the problem of Demarcation. He believed that
any theory was scientific on the basis that such theories could have possible evidence to suggest that
the theory was wrong. Conversely, a notion would be deemed unscientific if no contradictory evidence
could be gathered. An example of Demarcation is the separation of Einstein s theory of relativity and
Freud s psychoanalytic theory (section 2). Popper saw Einstein s theory as making predictions that
could potential be incorrect and that such examples would falsify the entire theory. Conversely, Freud
s psychoanalytic theory was capable of explaining most of human behavior without contradictory
evidence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, using observations cannot completely verify a theory, it would only verify what a
scientist would be looking for. On the other hand, searching for counterexamples to a theory can
falsify the theory. In addition, falsification allows more questions to be raised to search for
contradiction evidence. This search for falsification of a theory is consequently a better methodology
for separating science from non science(section 3). In addition, Popper believed all scientific theories
as being tests for falsification and not verification. This extends into the idea that no theory is a
universal truth, but only that contradictory evidence has not been found for such a

Social Shaming In Colonial America
Vigilante justice and social shaming were forms of protest used especially in colonial America. Some
of the brutal methods included tar and feathering, foot whipping, and pillories. Another example is
found in the book Scarlet Letter, in which a woman who is accused of adultery is forced to wear a red
A on her clothing to signify her shameful status. In more modern times, public shaming is much more
widespread and acknowledged. For example injustices can be published on the Internet so everyone
around the world can see it. This could result in boycotts, hostile arguments and angry articles. For
example, due to the controversy in Baltimore and Ferguson surrounding the questionable violence of

Essay about Frankenstein by Mary Shelly
Authors often use stories as their journals. They use characters to represent multiple people in their
lives or major events that affected them psychologically. Authors use the unconscious mind that
manifests in actions and Mary Shelley is no exception. In her famous novel about a creation and his
creator, the unconscious transformation through adolescents in her life is visible. Some of her own
adolescent issues were infused into the creature s character. People could look at Frankenstein as a
dramatic journal entry, allowing Shelley to be able to write about personal issues as she was
navigating the tricky waters between being a teenager and adulthood. The creature is the storyteller
that tells her story about the loss of her mother, her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the replacement mother came, Shelley had now not only lost her mother, but also her father.
Shelley uses the creature to express her feeling of isolation from society and her father. When Victor
finally finishes making his creature, the psychological horror of what he has done drives him into the
streets pacing them with quick steps, as if [he] sought to avoid the creature whom he feared (Shelley
36). Victor s initial abandonment of the creature correlates to Wollstonecraft s death because of the
shock at birth or creation that causes emotional turmoil. Even though Victor s abandonment of his
progeny is different to Wollstonecraft s, the emotional damage relates to each other. When Victor
again denies his creation for a second time three years later, it is a direct correlation to Godwin s
withdrawal from the household after remarrying. It is no coincidence that Victor s first denial of the
creature happens only three years before the creature approaches him a second time, the same amount

The Importance Of Student In School
In school I have always been a relatively successful student, and I was always considered one of the
smarter kids by my parents and a lot of the other students. In about sixth grade when they started to
split the grade up into certain classes for the advanced kids and the kids that weren t considered
advanced. I was in the classes with all the kids that weren t considered advanced. At the time though, I
didn t realize what they were doing or that I wasn t actually considered a smart kid by the school, I
just knew all my friends were in classes I wasn t in, and it really upset me. I got put in the classes with
a bunch of kids I didn t like, or just people I didn t know, and had never seen before. I still had the bus
where I got to see a few of my friends, but other than that, they just weren t around. All of fourth grade
year I hadn t struggled at all, and everything came relatively easy to me. It was just really easy. I knew
I wasn t a dumb kid, but up until then my parents had always had to help me. They carried me through
school, they had just been my own personal teacher and were always there if I needed any help at all.
This was definitely weird to me that I didn t need them anymore that year. About half way through the
school year, I was talking to one of my friends about school and how easy it had been going so far this
year. He then started telling me how hard he thought it was and how he was really struggling, I just
kind of blew it off, and was thinking he

Tuberculosis ( Tb ) Is The Disease Of The Lung Caused By A...
2.1 TB burden and epidemiology
Tuberculosis (TB) is the disease of the lung caused by a slow growing intracellular pathogen called
Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) (1). In 2014, there were 9.6 million cases of active TB disease
worldwide, and 1.2 million TB related deaths according to World Health Organization (WHO) (2).
The burden of the disease can be appreciated with the knowledge that one third of the world
population is latently infected with M.tb, and 5 10% of exposed individuals develop active disease and
are able to spread the infection to more people every year (3,1). To reduce this burden, effective
strategies are required in both preventative and therapeutic areas of research.
2.2 Primary infection and host defense in TB
2.2.1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have shown that the recruitment of antigen presenting cells (APCs) is delayed for up to day 7 post
infection which can be attributed to the lack of pro inflammatory cytokines, in particular, TNF α
which is critical for the control of mycobacterial infection (5). Delayed influx of APCs to the airway
lumen impairs the ability of the host immune system to control the bacterial infection in a timely
manner. Once there is a high influx of APCs at the site of pathogen entry, antigens or mycobacteria are
transported from the lung to the draining lymph node (DLN). The migration of APCs to DLN is
mediated by the upregulation of expression of chemokine receptor CCR7 that allows APCs to respond
to CCL19 and CCL21 chemokine gradients which are constitutively expressed in the LN (3,5,8).
Normally migration of DCs occurs within few hours after infection; for example in case of influenza,
the required time is 20 hours, whereas in the case of TB infection it takes between 8 10 days, implying
that this delayed migration is the limiting step towards the initiation of adaptive immune responses.
2.2.2 Initiation of adaptive immunity
Cellular immunity plays a critical role in the control of M.tb infection. It has been shown that CD4+T
helper 1 (Th1) cells play a central role in protection against TB disease, primarily through the
production of macrophage activating cytokines such as IFN γ and TNF α (9 11). In the process of
primary infection,

Hip Hop, A Popular Genre Of Music
Hip Hop is a subcultural movement that formed in the early 1970s by African American, Caribbean
and Latino youths. It wasn t until the late 1980s that it became popular outside of the African
American community and by the 2000s it became the most popular genre of music. However, the
subculture has evolved through out the years and the comparison between then and now is growing
increasingly big. Hip Hop in the 80s consisted of music, dance, creativity and artistry. It also allowed
people an avenue to express themselves and deliver a sense of their surroundings and backgrounds
whether that was positive or negative. As well as this bringing communities together, it also drove
them apart as expressing yourself got competitive and with hip hop being a music form. People would
start to offend each other through lyrics, by pointing out disadvantages. This culture was now so
competitive that violence started to outbreak due to people taking it to serious and this brought so
much bad attention towards it, to be a rapper was basically classing yourself as a criminal.
Unfortunately, how most people remember hip hop may be distorted through the prevalence of
violence in the hip hop culture, whether heard in lyrics, seen from artists or in the media s
representation of artist beef. (Janeé, L. 2015) The fashion statement within this subculture was heavily
frowned upon due to its strong relation to gangs and how they dressed. It consisted of over sized
tracksuits, hoodies, baggy jeans

Argumentative Essay On Guns On Campus
Guns on campus?
Would school shootings be reduced if guns were allowed on college campus or would it make more
school shootings. Not very many people believe that guns were allowed to be carried around with
them throughout the day let alone a school campus, surprising adults and staff at colleges students are
allowed to have guns on college campuses in Georgia and Arkansas. Some people on these college
campuses feel that they need a gun to put a hold on school shooters or just for defending themselves.
But others feel that it jeopardizes the campus. It makes them feel in more insecure because the
students do not know who may have a gun on campus which makes students frightened to just be on
campus. With that information guns on college grounds is a controversial topic because some people
feel the need to protect themselves by having a gun on campus and others feel the need to leave the
guns and weapons to the authorities by not having guns on campuses.
One reason why guns should be legalized on a college campus is for protecting yourself and you other
peers. There is an argument going on whether or not guns should be considered on campus. In
Georgia, guns are allowed on campus and a few people state their opinion on this controversial topic.
In the article Georgians have the right to defend themselves by Mandi Ballinger The author says it is
their own decisions to defend and protect themselves (Ballinger 1). What this quote means is that

The Role Of Journalists On The Media
Imagine a world in which you did not have access to any news the only thing you consider current
events is what you yourself see and what you hear from others. Obviously, this world would be very
problematic. We all rely on the news media to connect us to the entire world, which is why the role of
journalists is essential. Journalists have the very important duty of reporting on current events
accurately and objectively. Along with written text, pictures also tell a story, which presents a
continuous ethical issue for many journalists. Although newspapers and magazines routinely publish
photos, there are many ethical values that journalists must consider before publishing those photos,
such as the impact a photo or video could have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are typically three types of news stories journalists look for: natural events or disasters, a
person, group, or organization completing some newsworthy act, and when journalists themselves
develop their own story through beat reporting ( News ). Once these stories have been found, it is
imperative that journalists report on these events both accurately and objectively. This balance is
imperative for journalists to maintain because according to Greenberg and Wheelwright, a key aspect
of journalistic ethics is the management of readers expectations (514). Although the field as a whole
has been transforming due to the online news media, considering what is newsworthy for the general
public has always been a main concern for journalists. As a result of this transformation, trust in the
news media has drastically decreased over the past several years for a variety of reasons, which is why
a revival of essential journalistic values, such as honesty and integrity, is needed.
Along with using written text to tell a news story, pictures also play an important role in journalism.
The popular phrase a picture is worth a thousand words is often true in this field. When thinking back
on a previous news story, readers will most likely remember the visual portrayal of a news story rather
than the written text. According to recent research, as

used around the world most for transportation of people instead of goods. Their electric motors are
powered from a receiver that remains in contact with a wire supplying the electricity that runs parallel

of what the organization wants to achieve and thus should illustrate what end result the job should

Prioritizing an analysis based on which jobs play a key role in achieving the goals of the organization
is one example of how to determine which jobs get analyzed first. There could be other reasons
however for why an analysis is taking place. Perhaps the working environment or technology has
changed. Or perhaps increasing diversity is a driver for performing an analysis to assist in determining
how to make jobs more appealing to other groups of people not traditionally within them. Where is the
data? There are a variety of sources that can be used to find information about particular jobs. The
most common are the employees currently in the job being analyzed or the manager the job would

China s Threat to the Us Economy
China s Threat to the United States Economy
For the last twenty eight years, China has been quickly growing into one of the largest economies in
the world. China has accomplished this feat, in part, by radically changing their policies on trade and
free market interactions with other countries. During this process, China has bought approximately
one hundred trillion dollars of United States debt in the form of Treasury bills, notes, bonds, and
Inflation Protected Securities (Amadeo). This debt has given China leverage against the United States
which has enabled China to keep the value of the United States dollar high, while keeping the value of
the Chinese yuan low. As the inflation of the dollar continues to negatively affect the ... Show more

Instead, China could use their debt leverage to impact foreign trade policies and more importantly
domestic political policies that budget how the United States spends its tax dollars (Elwell 22). China
has become a perceived threat to the U.S. economy because of the increasing trade deficit between the
two countries, their ability to undercut production costs of similar products produced in the United
States, and the amount of leverage that China has over the United States due to amount of money that
has been lent by China. Although the United States has taken steps to close the trade deficit, such as
convincing China to raise prices on their exports, there is still a considerable gap (Prasad). The United
States government continues to print money that they simply can t afford, therefore, relying even more
heavily on China sustaining the value of their currency. Unless the United States is able to close the
trade deficit and regain control of our economic flexibility, the problems caused by foreign countries
owning our debt will remain eminent.

The Reality Of Hollywood Schools Vs. Reality
Hollywood schools vs reality
A person might be afraid of the mean girl group, or about what the dumb jocks say. Hollywood makes
it seem different than what the reality actually is. Maybe that s why high schoolers may be a little
disappointed when they don t see chandeliers, fog machines, or sparkling lights at their prom. Some
kids are afraid of the first day of middle school. They re are preparing themselves for that harsh mean
girl click they may have seen on tv. Or may be afraid that the boys in the older grade than them would
shove the in their locker. While bullying is very real, and everyone should take it for caution, some
things may not be what they seem as portrayed in Hollywood. Bullying is a serious thing and the state
of New York has even taken it to the extents of finning a parent up to $250 or 15 days in jail. The
popular movie, Mean Girls, made in 2004, stars a girl named Cady, and which she is friends with
unpopular people. She groups up with the Plastics to get closer with her enemies. In the end hope to

real, but bullying in real life is much more subtle nowadays.

was right. Was I just expecting to make it through training with my eyes closed? I had to forget about
how scared I was and carry on with what I had to do. Once I got to the platform I thought that there
would for sure be some push ups waiting for me, but I was wrong. Private, do you really think that
you re cut out to be a soldier if you face your fears with your eyes closed? No Private! You have to
face and overcome those fears. Personal Courage. Private. One of your Army Values. Don t ever forget
it and you ll be a great Soldier someday. Those words from my Drill Sergeant stuck with me all

Economics Elasticity Essay
Businesses know that they face demand curves, but rarely do they know what these curves look like.
Yet sometimes a business needs to have a good idea of what part of a demand curve looks like if it is
to make good decisions. If Rick s Pizza raises its prices by ten percent, what will happen to its
revenues? The answer depends on how consumers will respond. Will they cut back purchases a little
or a lot? This question of how responsive consumers are to price changes involves the economic
concept of elasticity.
Elasticity is a measure of responsiveness. Two words are important here. The word measure means
that elasticity results are reported as numbers, or elasticity coefficients. The word responsiveness
means that there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it is greater than one, economists say that demand is elastic.
Products which have few good substitutes generally have a lower elasticity of demand than products
with many substitutes. As a result, more broadly defined products have a lower elasticity than
narrowly defined products. The price elasticity of demand for meat will be lower than the price
elasticity of pork, and the price elasticity for soft drinks will be less elastic than the price elasticity for
colas, which in turn will be less elastic than the price elasticity for
Pepsi.
Time plays an important role in determining both consumer and producer responsiveness for many
items. The longer people have to make adjustments, the more adjustments they will make. When the
price of gasoline rose rapidly in the late 1970s as a result of the OPEC cartel, the only adjustment
consumers could initially make was to drive less. With time they could also move closer to work or
find jobs closer to home, and switch to more fuel efficient cars.
The concept of elasticity can help explain some situations that at first glance may seem puzzling. If
American farmers all have excellent harvests, they may have a very poor year financially. They may
be better off if they all have mediocre harvests. If a bus company decides it needs more revenue and
tries to get it by raising fares, its revenues may decrease rather than increase.

The s Mini Research Paper Essay
Santa Iglesia Advanced English 1, Per. 7 14 November 2016 OMS Mini Research Paper The word
man has a very simple definition: an adult male ( The Definition ). However, there are many symbols
and meanings being it. A Native American picture known as Man in a Maze, originally called I itoi,
depicts a man standing at the entrance of a maze. At the center is the man s dreams where God greets
him and passes him into the next world. The center is not easy to reach, for there are many twists and
turns in the maze itself. The maze symbolizes life and the difficulties man has to go through to reach
the end and move on. In this instance man is naive, but represents strength, and must go through the
challenges faced through existence in order to find the way to the finish ( The Symbol ). Another
simple, yet very complex word beyond its basic definition, is old . The book definition of old is to
have existed for a long time ( I Found ). The word old is associated with wisdom because a lot of
experience is thought to be gained during long periods of time. When combining the two words, old
and man, a new and very intricate symbol is made. Old man symbolizes wisdom of humanity and the
power of great knowledge. The phrase old man is also associated with high status and special powers
because with great wisdom comes significant respect from less experienced individuals (Cirlot). Joe
DiMaggio was a famous baseball player for the Yankees and was nicknamed Yankee Clipper who

Decrease In Violent Crimes In England
In England the statistics on violent crimes and sexual offences show a positive picture of steady long
term decline in violent crimes over the past twenty years (Eisenstat 1999) . In England the number of
violent crimes has fallen from 3.8 million in 1995 to about 1.3 million in 2013. Even though there has
been a drop in domestic violence, it still remains a problem in the world today. Women are more
commonly known for being victims of domestic violence. There is a percentage of twenty two percent
that are abused by non sexual partners, twenty one percent of stalking, and twenty percent experience
sexual abuse (Eisenstat 1999) Men also experience stalking at ten percent and non sexual partner s
abuse at nine percent. In the United States

Human Cloning Is Not More Difficult Than Cloning
Human cloning involves removing the nucleus of a human egg and replacing it with the nucleus of an
existing person (Glannon, p. 89). It is the genetic duplication of an existing person (CGS). Identical
twins are a naturally occurring cloning (Science Daily). Several countries worldwide have bans on
human cloning (Kilner). The U.S. government has cut funding for cloning research (Kilner).
Arguments in favor of human cloning point out the benefits of advancing technology, while those
against question the effect it has on human dignity and even the clone itself.
Although the clone has the DNA of the donor, the clone will have epigenetic effects. Epigenetic
disturbances refer to the altered physical structures of the DNA, but not the DNA sequence itself
(Epigenetics). Cloning technology has produced clones of several mammals, including sheep, mice,
goats, and horses (AMA). Cloning humans is technically more difficult than cloning other mammals
(Cloning Fact Sheet). The process is still extremely inefficient and rarely produces viable cells. Those
usable cells are unlikely to survive until birth (AMA). So far, animal cloning research has caused
death and deformities of the clone (Kilner). Dolly, a cloned sheep, aged rapidly and had to be
euthanized at six years old (Glannon, p91). We can assume that human cloning will also have a dismal
failure rate (AMA). It would be considered unethical to attempt to produce human clones due to the
potential physical harm to the cloned child

During The Mid.-Nineteenth Century, Victorian England Was
During the Mid. nineteenth century, Victorian England was divided into distinct social classes. The
three social classes included the working, middle, and upper leisure class. As the Industrial Revolution
advanced, the working class became very isolated from the leisure class and often had low paying jobs
such as a blacksmith, tradesman, and farmer. The wealthy ladies and gentlemen of the leisure class
lacked awareness that their frivolous lifestyle was built on the laborious work of the working class.
Charles Dickens wrote Great Expectations to criticize the social classes during Victorian England.
Great Expectations follows the story of working class Pip as he attempts to fit in with upper class
society while coveting for the affection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herbert signifies that being a gentleman comes from within, and someone s integrity, like the varnish
of wood, can always be uncovered. Herbert and Matthew Pocket are true gentlemen because of their
behavior and moral integrity, not their upbringing. Whereas Compeyson is a counterfeiter, who uses
his wealthy leisure class appearance to deceive others into thinking he is less guilty than the lower
class criminals. Additionally, when Herbert brings Pip to the Pocket household, Pip notices that Mrs.
Pocket had been raised with high expectations herself but was perfectly helpless and useless (188).
Dickens ridicules the social privilege and snobbery that is idolized in Victorian society when the self
centered Mrs. Pocket spends all her time reading books about titles and nobility. Due to the fact Mrs.
Pocket is a negligent mother, her children tumble over her feet, and also play with dangerous toys,
with the Pockets maid rescuing them from accidents. She has no skills, morality, and she lives her
entire life fixated on the false idea that she was meant for greater things. Finally, when Pip and
Herbert join a social club for gentlemen called Finches of the Grove, Pip mentions that the members
would dine expensively once a fortnight, to quarrel among themselves as much as possible after
dinner, and to cause six waiters to get drunk on

Routine Activities Theory
According to the routine activities theory, the cause of crime should not be attributed to social causes,
such as poverty, inequality, and unemployment, rather it holds that crime is the result of opportunity.
The more opportunity there is for crime, the more likely that crime will occur in that specific area.
However, in order for there to be an increased opportunity for crime, the three necessary conditions of
this theory must be present: a likely offender, a suitable target, and the absence of capable
guardianship. Consequently, the routine activities theory is a strong explanation for crime in Ames,
Iowa. According to Area Vibes, Ames has crime rates that are 25% lower than the Iowa mean and 37%
lower than the nation s mean. Yet, while Ames has relatively low crime rates, crime is not non
existent, and poverty, unemployment, and inequality are unsuccessful attempts to explain it. Home of
Iowa State University, Ames ranked third in the nation for Best College Town last year, and the area
continues to grow not only in population, but also in diversity and opportunity as over 35,000 students
pour in from all over the world every year. Thus, it seems that crime in Ames is best explained by the
growing opportunity for crime as the routine activities theory holds, rather than unfavorable social
conditions. In a community with relatively low crime rates, it can be difficult to point out areas in
Ames that are at the most risk for crime. However, after looking at crime data and

Essay on Exposure Therapy Compared to Other Therapies Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), specifically exposure therapy, has garnered a great deal of empirical support in the literature for the treatment of anxiety disorders (Gerardi et al., 2010). Exposure therapy is an established PTSD treatment (Chambless Ollendick, 2001) and so is a benchmark for comparing other therapies (Taylor et al, 2003). Exposure therapy typically involves the patient repeatedly confronting the feared stimulus in a graded manner, either in imagination or in vivo. • 11. The Pros And Disadvantages Of Modern Test Taking Will Powers Dr. Lenore English 100 26 October, 2017 Modern Test Taking There have been many studies done to figure out which of the many testing styles allow students to both retain more information and help elevate some of the pre exam stress, while at the same time not putting too much work on the professor. Out of all the styles that have been tested, two of the most common styles that constantly rival each other are the open book test vs. the closed book tests. Many teachers still cling to the traditional closed books test. A closed book test is a test where students are expected to study their note before a test is given and try their very best to memorize everything that they can fit into their heads in order to successfully pass the test, then go into the exam with nothing but the pencil in their hand and the test on their desk. An open book test, is a test that allows students to bring either their notes or something that can be written on such as a sheet of paper or a note card that was given to the student before the exam. Both of these exam types have a wide range of both advantages and disadvantages. One of the most common disadvantages that is often mentioned for closed book exams is the fact that as far as the real world is concerned, closed book test are unrealistic. For many subjects the idea of doing a task with nothing but the sole information in someone s head would be seen as not only absurd but actually careless. An example of this absurdity and ... Victor finds solace in solitude with nature, and appears to use it as a coping mechanism to escape from the horrors of his life. Nature also ties into how the monster Victor has created feels, but in a much different way than it does for him. Victor becomes ill sometime during the story after he leaves home and goes off to study at college. It is assumed by his father that he will feel better after being with his family and Elizabeth, the woman who he will later marry. But really all Victor wants is to take a breath of fresh air alone, showing how he truly feels about solitude and the environment. It makes the reader wonder what he really cares about, and if he even misses his family. We passed a fortnight in these perambulations: my health and spirits had long been restored, and they gained additional strength from the salubrious air I breathed, the natural incidents of our progress . . . Throughout everything that happens to Victor in the book. Including the death of his mother, brother, Elizabeth, and his father. All that seems to calm him is his return to nature. Is all the gossip true, or is Boo Radley just a tall tale? In literature, authors use dynamic characters to leave readers asking questions and wanting more. Similar to how Harper Lee uses Boo Radley in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, to display tension throughout the story, by having him slowly transform from an ominous monster, to a true mystery, and eventually, a hero. From the start of the novel, Boo is automatically perceived as a horrific beast that preys on the innocent people of Maycomb County, yet everything anyone knows of the man is based off speculation. For instance, the narrator provides her questionable knowledge of Boo when she informs readers that he is, a malevolent phantom that is auspiciously known for lurking in the night to [peep] in [residents] windows (Lee 10). If this rumor about Boo is true, readers should have a growing concern for all the people in the town, especially because no one has a clue what Boo s appearance resembles. The separation of science and non science became known as the problem of Demarcation. He believed that any theory was scientific on the basis that such theories could have possible evidence to suggest that the theory was wrong. Conversely, a notion would be deemed unscientific if no contradictory evidence could be gathered. An example of Demarcation is the separation of Einstein s theory of relativity and Freud s psychoanalytic theory (section 2). Victor s initial abandonment of the creature correlates to Wollstonecraft s death because of the shock at birth or creation that causes emotional turmoil. Even though Victor s abandonment of his progeny is different to Wollstonecraft s, the emotional damage relates to each other. When Victor again denies his creation for a second time three years later, it is a direct correlation to Godwin s withdrawal from the household after remarrying. It is no coincidence that Victor s first denial of the creature happens only three years before the creature approaches him a second time, the same amount of years before Shelley s father remarried. Tuberculosis ( Tb ) Is The Disease Of The Lung Caused By A... 2.1 TB burden and epidemiology Tuberculosis (TB) is the disease of the lung caused by a slow growing intracellular pathogen called Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) (1). In 2014, there were 9.6 million cases of active TB disease worldwide, and 1.2 million TB related deaths according to World Health Organization (WHO) (2). The burden of the disease can be appreciated with the knowledge that one third of the world population is latently infected with M.tb, and 5 10% of exposed individuals develop active disease and are able to spread the infection to more people every year (3,1). To reduce this burden, effective strategies are required in both preventative and therapeutic areas of research. 2.2 Primary infection and host defense in TB 2.2.1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have shown that the recruitment of antigen presenting cells (APCs) is delayed for up to day 7 post infection which can be attributed to the lack of pro inflammatory cytokines, in particular, TNF α which is critical for the control of mycobacterial infection (5). Delayed influx of APCs to the airway lumen impairs the ability of the host immune system to control the bacterial infection in a timely manner. Once there is a high influx of APCs at the site of pathogen entry, antigens or mycobacteria are transported from the lung to the draining lymph node (DLN). The migration of APCs to DLN is mediated by the upregulation of expression of chemokine receptor CCR7 that allows APCs to respond to CCL19 and CCL21 chemokine gradients which are constitutively expressed in the LN (3,5,8). Normally migration of DCs occurs within few hours after infection; for example in case of influenza, the required time is 20 hours, whereas in the case of TB infection it takes between 8 10 days, implying that this delayed migration is the limiting step towards the initiation of adaptive immune responses. 2.2.2 Initiation of adaptive immunity Cellular immunity plays a critical role in the control of M.tb infection. It has been shown that CD4+T helper 1 (Th1) cells play a central role in protection against TB disease, primarily through the production of macrophage activating cytokines such as IFN Îł and TNF α (9 11). • 25. Hip Hop, A Popular Genre Of Music Hip Hop is a subcultural movement that formed in the early 1970s by African American, Caribbean and Latino youths. It wasn t until the late 1980s that it became popular outside of the African American community and by the 2000s it became the most popular genre of music. However, the subculture has evolved through out the years and the comparison between then and now is growing increasingly big. Hip Hop in the 80s consisted of music, dance, creativity and artistry. It also allowed people an avenue to express themselves and deliver a sense of their surroundings and backgrounds whether that was positive or negative. As well as this bringing communities together, it also drove them apart as expressing yourself got competitive and with hip hop being a music form. People would start to offend each other through lyrics, by pointing out disadvantages. This culture was now so competitive that violence started to outbreak due to people taking it to serious and this brought so much bad attention towards it, to be a rapper was basically classing yourself as a criminal. This balance is imperative for journalists to maintain because according to Greenberg and Wheelwright, a key aspect of journalistic ethics is the management of readers expectations (514). Open your eyes Private! What if you re out in the war zone. You re just going to be walking around with your eyes closed because you re scared? At that point I realized he was right. Was I just expecting to make it through training with my eyes closed? I had to forget about how scared I was and carry on with what I had to do. Once I got to the platform I thought that there would for sure be some push ups waiting for me, but I was wrong. Private, do you really think that you re cut out to be a soldier if you face your fears with your eyes closed? No Private! You have to face and overcome those fears. Personal Courage. Private. One of your Army Values. Don t ever forget it and you ll be a great Soldier someday. Those words from my Drill Sergeant stuck with me all throughout training and will be for the rest of my ... • 43. Economics Elasticity Essay Businesses know that they face demand curves, but rarely do they know what these curves look like. Yet sometimes a business needs to have a good idea of what part of a demand curve looks like if it is to make good decisions. If Rick s Pizza raises its prices by ten percent, what will happen to its revenues? The answer depends on how consumers will respond. Will they cut back purchases a little or a lot? This question of how responsive consumers are to price changes involves the economic concept of elasticity. Elasticity is a measure of responsiveness. Two words are important here. The word measure means that elasticity results are reported as numbers, or elasticity coefficients. The word responsiveness means that there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it is greater than one, economists say that demand is elastic. Products which have few good substitutes generally have a lower elasticity of demand than products with many substitutes. As a result, more broadly defined products have a lower elasticity than narrowly defined products. The price elasticity of demand for meat will be lower than the price elasticity of pork, and the price elasticity for soft drinks will be less elastic than the price elasticity for colas, which in turn will be less elastic than the price elasticity for Pepsi. Time plays an important role in determining both consumer and producer responsiveness for many items. The longer people have to make adjustments, the more adjustments they will make. When the price of gasoline rose rapidly in the late 1970s as a result of the OPEC cartel, the only adjustment consumers could initially make was to drive less. With time they could also move closer to work or find jobs closer to home, and switch to more fuel efficient cars. The concept of elasticity can help explain some situations that at first glance may seem puzzling. If American farmers all have excellent harvests, they may have a very poor year financially. They may be better off if they all have mediocre harvests. If a bus company decides it needs more revenue and tries to get it by raising fares, its revenues may decrease rather than increase. • 44. The s Mini Research Paper Essay Santa Iglesia Advanced English 1, Per. 7 14 November 2016 OMS Mini Research Paper The word man has a very simple definition: an adult male ( The Definition ). However, there are many symbols and meanings being it. A Native American picture known as Man in a Maze, originally called I itoi, depicts a man standing at the entrance of a maze. At the center is the man s dreams where God greets him and passes him into the next world. The center is not easy to reach, for there are many twists and turns in the maze itself. The maze symbolizes life and the difficulties man has to go through to reach the end and move on. In this instance man is naive, but represents strength, and must go through the challenges faced through existence in order to find the way to the finish ( The Symbol ). Another simple, yet very complex word beyond its basic definition, is old . The book definition of old is to have existed for a long time ( I Found ). The word old is associated with wisdom because a lot of experience is thought to be gained during long periods of time. When combining the two words, old and man, a new and very intricate symbol is made. Old man symbolizes wisdom of humanity and the power of great knowledge. The phrase old man is also associated with high status and special powers because with great wisdom comes significant respect from less experienced individuals (Cirlot). Joe DiMaggio was a famous baseball player for the Yankees and was nicknamed Yankee Clipper who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Decrease In Violent Crimes In England In England the statistics on violent crimes and sexual offences show a positive picture of steady long term decline in violent crimes over the past twenty years (Eisenstat 1999) . In England the number of violent crimes has fallen from 3.8 million in 1995 to about 1.3 million in 2013. Even though there has been a drop in domestic violence, it still remains a problem in the world today. Women are more commonly known for being victims of domestic violence. There is a percentage of twenty two percent that are abused by non sexual partners, twenty one percent of stalking, and twenty percent experience sexual abuse (Eisenstat 1999) Men also experience stalking at ten percent and non sexual partner s abuse at nine percent. • 46. Human Cloning Is Not More Difficult Than Cloning Human cloning involves removing the nucleus of a human egg and replacing it with the nucleus of an existing person (Glannon, p. 89). It is the genetic duplication of an existing person (CGS). Identical twins are a naturally occurring cloning (Science Daily). Several countries worldwide have bans on human cloning (Kilner). The U.S. government has cut funding for cloning research (Kilner). Arguments in favor of human cloning point out the benefits of advancing technology, while those against question the effect it has on human dignity and even the clone itself. Although the clone has the DNA of the donor, the clone will have epigenetic effects. Epigenetic disturbances refer to the altered physical structures of the DNA, but not the DNA sequence itself (Epigenetics). Cloning technology has produced clones of several mammals, including sheep, mice, goats, and horses (AMA). Cloning humans is technically more difficult than cloning other mammals (Cloning Fact Sheet). The process is still extremely inefficient and rarely produces viable cells. Those usable cells are unlikely to survive until birth (AMA). So far, animal cloning research has caused death and deformities of the clone (Kilner). Dolly, a cloned sheep, aged rapidly and had to be euthanized at six years old (Glannon, p91). We can assume that human cloning will also have a dismal failure rate (AMA). It would be considered unethical to attempt to produce human clones due to the potential physical harm to the cloned child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. During The Mid.-Nineteenth Century, Victorian England Was During the Mid. nineteenth century, Victorian England was divided into distinct social classes. The three social classes included the working, middle, and upper leisure class. As the Industrial Revolution advanced, the working class became very isolated from the leisure class and often had low paying jobs such as a blacksmith, tradesman, and farmer. The wealthy ladies and gentlemen of the leisure class lacked awareness that their frivolous lifestyle was built on the laborious work of the working class. Charles Dickens wrote Great Expectations to criticize the social classes during Victorian England. Great Expectations follows the story of working class Pip as he attempts to fit in with upper class society while coveting for the affection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Herbert signifies that being a gentleman comes from within, and someone s integrity, like the varnish of wood, can always be uncovered. Herbert and Matthew Pocket are true gentlemen because of their behavior and moral integrity, not their upbringing. Whereas Compeyson is a counterfeiter, who uses his wealthy leisure class appearance to deceive others into thinking he is less guilty than the lower class criminals. Additionally, when Herbert brings Pip to the Pocket household, Pip notices that Mrs. Pocket had been raised with high expectations herself but was perfectly helpless and useless (188). Dickens ridicules the social privilege and snobbery that is idolized in Victorian society when the self centered Mrs. Pocket spends all her time reading books about titles and nobility. Due to the fact Mrs. Pocket is a negligent mother, her children tumble over her feet, and also play with dangerous toys, with the Pockets maid rescuing them from accidents. She has no skills, morality, and she lives her entire life fixated on the false idea that she was meant for greater things. Finally, when Pip and Herbert join a social club for gentlemen called Finches of the Grove, Pip mentions that the members would dine expensively once a fortnight, to quarrel among themselves as much as possible after dinner, and to cause six waiters to get drunk on ... • 48. Routine Activities Theory According to the routine activities theory, the cause of crime should not be attributed to social causes, such as poverty, inequality, and unemployment, rather it holds that crime is the result of opportunity. The more opportunity there is for crime, the more likely that crime will occur in that specific area. However, in order for there to be an increased opportunity for crime, the three necessary conditions of this theory must be present: a likely offender, a suitable target, and the absence of capable guardianship. Consequently, the routine activities theory is a strong explanation for crime in Ames, Iowa. According to Area Vibes, Ames has crime rates that are 25% lower than the Iowa mean and 37% lower than the nation s mean. Yet, while Ames has relatively low crime rates, crime is not non existent, and poverty, unemployment, and inequality are unsuccessful attempts to explain it. Home of Iowa State University, Ames ranked third in the nation for Best College Town last year, and the area continues to grow not only in population, but also in diversity and opportunity as over 35,000 students pour in from all over the world every year. Thus, it seems that crime in Ames is best explained by the growing opportunity for crime as the routine activities theory holds, rather than unfavorable social conditions. In a community with relatively low crime rates, it can be difficult to point out areas in Ames that are at the most risk for crime. However, after looking at crime data and ...
