The film industry is arguably one of the most impactful sectors in modern society.
Sitcoms and comedy shows make us laugh, psychological thrillers help us see the
world from an improved perspective, and historical films help us understand where
we’ve come from as a people. Every video and every film reflects society and
transforms opinions.
Cinema is an edited reality and a mirror of society. While society decides morality,
films are desperate to connect with the audience and fulfil what the society fancies.
In turn, the film affects the society; thus cinema and society reflects each other,
"Directors are coming out with much more bolder subjects
which are touching the reality. Cinema is a reflection of our society, what is
happening (around) us.
 Movies On Crime Against
Women
Cinema is not just about fictional tales or entertainment; it is also a reality check for the society. filmmaker to take a
keen interest in crime against women in reality to try to sensitize viewers on crime.
It's debatable whether films fan crime in the society, but movies do daringly unravel harsh realities on the big screen.
Except that sometimes, the truth is harsher than what is shown.
Be it the crime committed in some murky lanes, dingy shanties or nightlife hot spots or in the highest strata of
society, filmmakers do not hesitate from showing the truth.
Reacting to the rise in the crime against women, people have often blamed women for venturing out unescorted,
especially after sunset - and inviting trouble. Recently, in "Highway" director Imtiaz Ali touched upon a similar issue
by showing how the protagonist, played by Alia Bhatt, is sexually abused by her own uncle.
Rajkumar Gupta had successfully brought on the big screen the Jessica Lal murder case through "No One Killed
Jessica". Model Jessica Lall was gunned down in a restaurant in the capital in 1999 and the director decoded the
sequence of events for the audience in the film.
It's not that filmmakers' focus only on women-centric topics, they scrutinize different types of crime - for
instance, "Shootout At Lokhandwala" took a closer look at the Mumbai crime world and real life
gangsters Maya Dolas gunned down by the police.
The thriving coal mafia in Jharkhand was the theme of Anurag Kashyap's series "Gangsof Wasseypur",
while Tigmanshu Dhula, in the biopic "PaanSingh Tomar", showed how athlete Paan Singh Tomar
turned into an outlaw.
As well as Director Rahul Dholakia movie “Raees” RaeesAlam and his business after ACP Majmudar
decides to get the better of him. In order to survive and keep his trade thriving, Raees must overcome
these obstacles.And Recently, scam 1992.
So, movies are indeed a mirror of society!
 Movies Teach Us
History
Most history movies are fact-based and, even for the few that are fictional, they still
depict a realistic and fantastic picture of how the world was before the invention of
the audiovisual devices that we know today. They connect the modern world with
past generations.
 Movies Based On Real Life
Stories
Movies are a powerful medium to create awareness about events that have gone
down in history. Some of these movies are based on events that have created a
lasting impact and deserve to be glorified through visual media, while other
incidents are gruesome in nature but still need to be talked about to bring out the
truth of the crime or the attack. Let’s take a look at our list of movies inspired by
real-life incidents that did justice while taking on the task of depicting what really
happened.
 Movies That Inspire You
A good movie will entertain, educate, and inspire the viewer in many
ways. Think of the impact that songs have on people, for example. They
make us think. They make us compassionate. They inspire us to help
others and to do good to and for humanity.
 Romantic And Family
Movies
Romantic movies, on the other hand, remind us why love is important and why it is worth fighting for.
They make us cry and laugh at our own romantic flaws, consequently helping us understand our
partners and family members more. They make life worth living- they make us feel alive.
 Movies With Hard Hitting
Social Message
Back in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, the leading man in Bollywood films would often be seen fighting
against inequality in the system. After Raj Kapoor in Awara (1951) and Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Angry Young
Man’ of Zanjeer (1973) and Deewar (1975) took on the establishment, becoming a symbol of that gap
between the promise and the delivered. In the same decades, Sharmila Tagore and Meena Kumari fronted
women-centric subjects in Anupama (1966) and Pakeezah (1972) respectively.
People need to be reminded about the importance of formal education as well as co-curricular school
activities such as art and sports . School-related films underline this importance and give education
stakeholders ideas on how to improve education systems in different parts of the world.
The movies of that time advocated equality of caste, class, gender, and bridging of the rural-urban divide.
After the social commentary cinema age of Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy, Basu Bhattacharya and others, the
1980s were dominated by escapist cinema.
But in recent years, movies with actors like Akshay Kumar, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Aamir Khan are
tackling subjects as diverse as farmers issue, open defecation, education system, Dark Side of Religion, erectile
dysfunction and same-sex love, again, reflecting the zeitgeist.
film brings us to understand the negative effects of drugs, alcohol, and substance abuse. Crime and action TV
shows also warn us about the dangers of criminal activities, terrorism, and war. Speaking of war, movies help
people understand the atrocity of living homeless and miserably in refugee camps. Movies awaken the senses
of empathy in people who have never experienced civil war firsthand. They help us feel responsible for our
brothers and sisters living in war-torn countries even as much as we’ve never been there ourselves. This is the
awareness that has fuelled the growth of so many charity organizations and trust funds.
Movies On Education
Movies are probably one of the most efficient ways to get across a
message. Films on the education system are rarely explored by
Bollywood, however having said that there have been some movies that
have openly challenged the indian education system, talking about its
flaws and loopholes. Here are some movies that have had an impact on
students and education -
MOVIES ON WOMEN
EMPOWERMENT
Feminism today has become one of the most discussed topics in the country.
When everyone is taking a step to make some contribution to the cause of women-
empowerment, Bollywood is not lagging behind. While Bollywood films mostly
objectify women, there are a few films which revolve around the life of women,
their importance in our lives and give messages that are not just limited to the
bedroom and the kitchen.
Film industry is a mass media, there is bound to be heavy impact on its audience. The influence
of films in our society is bidirectional. Society reflects in movies and in turn movies influence
society
Cinema along with characterizing reality of a society, helps in evaluating social norms /value/
customs /beliefs. Culture itself is not static it is dynamic. As a society moves with time,
connotations of culture take different meaning as well.
Impact Of Movies On
Society
The studies reveal the influence of films on people's beliefs and
opinions, stereotypes and attitudes. Movies can have a
significant impact on gender and ethnic stereotypes [21,22],
change attitudes towards certain groups of people and cause
newly formed opinions on various issues.
Movies are evidently very impactful in today’s world. And because
the positive impacts outweigh the negatives, it is our duty to
choose the right content for the right audience and to protect
young minds from the content that would corrupt their feelings
and opinions.
