Essay On Henry Rifle
The original Henry rifle was a sixteen shot .44 caliber rimfire, lever action, breech loading rifle
patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860 after three years of design work.[1] The Henry was an
improved version of the earlier Volition Repeating Rifle. The Henry used copper (later brass) rimfire
cartridges with a 216 grain (14.0 gram, 0.490 ounce) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g, 0.056 oz.) of
gunpowder. Production was very small (150 to 200 a month) until middle of 1864. Nine hundred were
manufactured between summer and October 1862; by 1864, production had peaked at 290 per month,
bringing the total to 8,000 manufactured.[2] By the time production ended in 1866, approximately
14,000 units had been manufactured. For a Civil War soldier, owning a Henry rifle was a point of
pride.[3] Letters home would call them Sixteen or Seventeen Shooters, depending whether a round
was loaded in the chamber.[citation needed] The US Government purchased about 3,140 (early ...

muzzleloader armed Confederates who had to face this deadly sixteen shooter , it was called a rifle
that you could load on Sunday and shoot all week long. [6] Those few Confederate troops who came
into possession of captured Henry rifles had little way to resupply the special ammunition used by the
weapon, making its widespread use by Confederate forces impractical. The rifle was, however, known
to have been used at least in part by some fifteen different Confederate units in Louisiana, Texas, and
Virginia, as well as the personal bodyguards of Confederate President Jefferson

Singapore Is A Third World Country Located On The Southern...
Singapore healthcare system Singapore is a third world country located on the southern tip of the
Indian Ocean and the South China Sea (Moh.gov.sg, 2015). It is a well developed country within
Southeast Asia. The territory is an island shaped like a diamond. In late 1960, the island expanded due
to land retrieval. Singapore core principles are a meritocracy, multiculturalism, and secularism
(Moh.gov.sg, 2015). The country is a parliamentary republic, and the officials languages are English,
Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil. The ethnic groups that makes up the country are Chinese, Malays,
Indians, Eurasians, Caucasians and others. Buddhism is the religion and after Buddhism is Christianity
(Moh.gov.sg, 2015). Islam, Taoism, and Hinduism are religions in Singapore. The country is diverse in
many aspects such as culture and religion. The government ensures that Singapore healthcare is
affordable by implementing Medisave, MediShield, Medifund and ElderShield (Hwee Sing, Yee Wei
and Vrijhoef, 2014). Out of pocket expenses may be small, but cost do accumulate over time. Patients
are treated like private patients even within a public system. Private sectors offer services to religion
patients, privately insured and public patients if they can afford the cost because the out of pocket cost
is ridiculously expense. Singapore healthcare today is acceptable and reasonable. Singaporeans are
required to have a saving plan which is Medisave (Hwee Sing, Yee Wei and Vrijhoef, 2014). Medisave

The Street Gang In LETB
In LETB, Harry is scapegoated by the roving street gang. Harry commits the horrendous act of
molesting a young boy, however that is not grounds for dismissing his death as justice according to
Girard s theory. This is further proved because Selby has the street gang murder him. Throughout the
section Strike , they show constant disdain for Harry and use him for beer and food. The importance
of the street gang s role as the scapegoaters , is that they show homosexual tendencies throughout the
novel . However here, they call Harry a freak and abuse him (176). After they crucify him, they go
into the bathroom of the Greeks, seemingly happier than they had been since they beat a sailor up in
Another Day, Another Dollar . In both the incident with the sailor and with Harry, questions of
masculinity and impotence were the forefront causes for the street gang s violence. This suggests that
Selby shows their inability to come to terms with their own sexuality; and how it is much easier to
strike out than accept their feelings, as seen in above in the chapter on Hypermasculinity . The rape of
the prostitute Tralala is also suggestive of this, as it seems to include most of the males in Sunset Park.
They come together to violently rape her, seemingly to take out their own feelings of inferiority and
impotence on her. Like with Girard s sexually aggressive goat , Tralala is chosen because she is seen
as an abject woman. In the conservative conforming world of 1950s America ,

Essay On Baroque And Renaissance
Unit 4 Written Assignment
Revival and Rebirth in Europe: The Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo
Introduction
The three stylistic periods, following the original classical era, the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo
saw many changes in art. This was influenced by many factors, such as scientific development,
revolution in the case of the Rococo as well as one of the key factors that the church was no longer
such a key patron of the arts.
These factors would have had a profound influence on have art developed during these three periods
preceding the classical era of art. This paper will discuss the relationship between growing scientific
knowledge and art. Scientific developments at the time had a profound influence on how art itself
developed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there was certainly an application of realism involved, certainly in easel art. For example,
Dutch realist painting. However, it certainly used knowledge acquired through scientific research from
previous eras.
The realist approach continued to flourish in much later eras until the 1700s, even though art didn t
benefit from such scientific developments. Previous knowledge was essential right up until the 1700s
(Encyclopedia of Art History, n.d.).
Conclusion
The relationship between art and science become fundamental in the renaissance era. This relationship
became mutually beneficial, not only did science help create techniques such as linear perspective or
knowledge of the human anatomy, but science benefited with knowledge. This is due to artists being
heavily involved in such research to perfect art, hence the term scientific realism.
Art has been a motivation, driven by the desire to make art increasingly more realistic. There are three
key developments in science which have aided this realism. Perspective, Geometry and the research

Popular Toys Effect On Children
Popular toys have an effect on the media. Take for example, Toy Story a popular childrens movie that
featured many toys as protagonist in the story and see how the movie had an effect on the toys that
were being sold. If it was not for the movie, then the Toy Story toys would not have sold nearly as
well as if they were in the movie. According to the article,Social media firestorm awakens toymakers
to an absent Rey, it states,š Twitter exploded with the hashtag #WheresReyš.In the movie Star Wars:
The Force Awakens Rey was the leading character in the movie. Fans who have watched the movie
knew this because they went and watched the movie. From the trailers it seemed as if Rey was going
to be a small character in the movie where she actually was the hero that went and saved the day.
Exampling from the article stated above, Disney was holding back on the Rey toys to avoid giving
away a key plot point to the fans of the Star Wars movie.

Maya Schloemer s The Outsider-Personal Narrative
By: Maya Schloemer My son, Oliver, dashed across the open field giggling and staggering as he went
along. Frequently sliding over the vivacious, damp grass underneath his bare feet, but not seeming to
care much. It had been years since I have seen him, and yet, he hasn t changed at all which is quite
baffling considering he had been growing briskly since infancy, I had wanted to stay with my family
while he was maturing but after the war started to become more dreadful, about the period Oliver
turned four, I decided to fight for my people and join the Delaware Continentals. At this point, all
hope had been lost for my primary ambitions of raising a child. The worst part of this is that I can t

some time to exhaust. The day was gloomier than I thought it would be. The air was humid as if it had
just rained for days and you could feel the thickness in it. Past the trees of the nearby woods, thick,
and gray fog lined the ground, Much of the knowledge the lady shared was in fact, true. It surprised
me about how much I had forgotten or didn t know these past years. For instance, the battle only
lasted for an hour total with America winning. What surprised me the most though was when she
showed us the wall of the twelve American soldiers who had died during the battle, which was a
drastically small amount compared to the British s about one hundred and ten. On the wall, my
friends, practically brothers, who I fought with. Studying the people s names and remembering until

Anti Warfare Counterinsurgency Manual Version
Sendero Luminoso is an insurgent organization whose goal is the seizure of power to implement
communism in Peru, to this end, it uses revolutionary violence (terrorism, sabotage and guerrilla
warfare). The 1989 Peruvian Army ME 41 7, Non Conventional Warfare Counterinsurgency Manual
version was the unique official military source that detailed the SL ideology, doctrine, organization,
structure, tactics, techniques, and procedures used by this terrorist group; however, SL has changed,
and the Peruvian Army does not release valid and official information. Nevertheless, 1989 ME 41 7
version mentioned that SL performs informational campaigns using agitation and propaganda,
developing mass agitation; distribution of brochures and flyers; mobilizing rallies and marches using
existing broadcasting bodies (newspapers, radio stations, TV., and others.) The Black Book of Sendero
Luminoso Insurgency (known as the Black Book) is one of the primary sources to analyze the SL
development from 2001 to 2008. This book mentions the SL tactics, procedures, and specific aspects
of their method of indoctrination. Forms of struggle are ambushes, assaults, selective annihilations,

White Noise Essay
In his award winning novel White Noise, Don DeLillo critically observes and illustrates everyday life
of the postmodern American family. Within this critique, DeLillo examines the pervasiveness of
technology and its unavoidable interaction with the human experience of reality. This technological
influence is dramatized throughout the novel in many ways; for example, one method utilized by
DeLillo to expose the reader to the ubiquity of technology comes from frequent interludes to the text,
which serve little purpose other than to accommodate trivial technological sounds and discourse.
These interjections, coming from technological sources such as household appliances, the radio,
television and vehicles, not only engage the reader in an immediate ... Show more content on

It is through this reorganization and shifting of discourse that technological and scientific discourses
gain enigmatic qualities and perceived authority. This authoritative role of discourse witnessed in the
Gladney family is relation to the Jack s eldest son Heinrich, who embodies an authoritative role in the
family merely because he is the possessor of scientific discourse (Conroy 205). Furthermore, his status
is maintained even though it is impossible to know whether the information Heinrich puts forth is
factual (205). Evidence for this can also be found in the scene at the boy scouts camp, when Jack and
Babette observe Heinrich lecturing information on the toxic event (DeLillo 134). In Conroy s analysis
of this scene, he depicts Heinrich as some form of profit, by likening the scene to Jesus s appearance
in the temple (205). Furthermore, while being a possessor of scientific discourse (and not by
possessing a traditional German name) is the defining feature of Heinrich s character and status, other
members of the Gladney family are also privy to technology s influence on their personal

and they were eliminating every single possibility for these creatures to cause destruction anywhere.

This is the banner statement or scientific ethics in all of mankind. If people stopped to think about if
they should other than that they could, we might would save ourselves a lot of trouble. Jurassic Park is
but one example; abortion and cloning are two big one in the world today. The people created Jurassic
Park only wanted money and the credit for making a scientific dream a reality. They became power
hungry and money thirsty; and it came to them after some work in a shiny box ready to be presented
to the world. Donald Gennaro, the lawyer, states, We re gonna make a fortune off this place. (21:29)
Proverbs 16:16 How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgement than silver! the people
of Jurassic Park did not think about what would go wrong; even if it is negative several lives could
have been saved. Thinking about the most miniscule details could have saved the park and made it
thrive; but they were arrogant and would not look past the outstanding work they were doing
scientifically. Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will
happen at the right time. Real world issues facing us today are cloning and abortion; in my opinion,
abortion is more of a cruel act. To think about a life being stripped without its own opinion is

INSIDE APPLE ESSAY
Inside apple is a book where the author lets us discover the whole new strategic world of Apple
directed first by Steve Jobs. It introduces the original way Apple manages its company. We learned
that the business strategy model Apple is using is completely different from what we learned in
school. We ve always learned that a company has to have free flow information contrary to Apple that
faces a large secretly managerial structure. By the time you finish reading the book, you will have a
completely different idea of what you thought about apple, and you will probably be afraid of working
for that firm. The author shares with us many interviews he has done to Apple employees and they

One of the main ideologies the book explains about Steve Jobs is that he created something not with
the thought of earning revenues, but to create history. I do not think I agree with that, because even
though a business is created to cover society s needs, the main goal of a company or business is
always to create revenues to its stakeholders. That is one Steve s idea I would not follow if I had to
make a decision within my company.
I liked the idea of Steve Jobs repeating things to his employees because it transmits the exact idea he
wants them to know. I believe it is a great way to have everything under your control. At Apple there s
never confusion as to who is responsible for what because the company owns a great information flow
about the individual responsibilities. He does the same thing with his customers, taking an example
from the book, in 2000, when he launched the new iPod, the person responsible to talk to media used
to repeat many times 1,000 songs in your pocket , slogan used to promote the first generation of iPod s
large storage capacity and compact design. The company was known for always repeating what it is
important, and in every interview they had, they always repeated the main idea they wanted the
customer to know, in order for him not to be confused with many information flowing among

Ancient World Exhibitions
Although the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts collection holds many treasures from a variety of
eras and cultures, three pertained most to this course. Within the Ancient World exhibit, a Cycladic
Idol, a Roman copy of Greek artist Praxiteles s statue of Aphrodite, and a Red figure Krater are on
display. All three artworks trace the progression of Greek culture and the later Romans who imitated
much of Greek culture and art. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, or MFA, is curated both by
era and by culture. For example, the Ancient World room contains art from a particular time period
and a variety of cultures; however, the Art of the Americas room is made up of art from a specific
culture over a large amount of time. All of the works mentioned above were placed within the Ancient
World room. The curator chose to place the statue of Aphrodite on a pedestal in the center of the room,

Japanese Exclusionism Pros And Cons
The reasons for immigration to the land of opportunity called America in the early years of our
country are clear. America was seen as a place where an individual could start over with an equal
chance of success or failure, offered jobs, no matter what country he or she came from. This proved to
be true for Irish immigrants, German American immigrants, English and black immigrants that came
to America. However, this was not the same for many of the Japanese immigrants. One of the many
challenges Japanese immigrants faced when they arrived in the United States was the efforts of
politicians, intellectuals, and community leaders to label Japanese an undesirable race. Known
collectively as the anti Japanese exclusion movement, these efforts ranged from introducing
discriminatory legislation that discouraged further Japanese immigration, encouraging and enforcing
boycotts of Japanese businesses, and spreading propaganda that offered a multitude of reasons to
justify the exclusion of Japanese from the United States. The Anti Japanese Exclusion Movement
came on the heels of the earlier Chinese exclusion movement. When Chinese laborers began
immigrating to the U.S., especially the West Coast, in the mid nineteenth century in pursuit of work,
other groups (some of which consisted of European immigrants) sought to exclude Chinese on the
premise that as Asiatics or Mongolians they were inherently unassimilable. In particular, these
exclusionists objected to the class background and what they argued was the questionable morality of
these immigrants who were mostly laborers and (in the case of women) prostitutes, arguing that as non
Christians these immigrants lacked basic morals and as such would be detrimental to American
society. Using tactics ranging from brute violence to more subtle legal means particularly the Page
Law and 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act these groups succeeded in barring most Chinese immigration.
By identifying Chinese as inherently undesirable and therefore not worthy of being allowed into the
U.S., and by laying the groundwork for associating Asia with a paranoid vision of the impending
onslaught of Asian invaders (also known as yellow peril), the anti Chinese exclusion movement

How Did The Second Sino-Japanese War Affect The Growth Of...
Sometimes known as the beginning of World War II, the Second Sino Japanese War is regarded as a
significant event in the growth of Japan before World War II. Millions died, both Chinese and
Japanese, civilians and soldiers alike. The Chinese nationalist and communist governments adjoined

eventually surrendered the land to the Chinese, and no payoff was made. The Second Sino Japanese

Japan is a fairly large country, ranking high on the list of biggest to smallest list of all countries in the
world. The Japanese had also already seized Korea in the First Sino Japanese War, increasing Japanese
territory. The Japanese conquest for land led them to also sign the Tripartite Pact, deciding to split land
they conquered. The Japanese kept trying for more land, but eventually, even the the land they had

Nonexistent Knight Essay
Italo Calvino who was born was born on October of 1923 and died September 19 of 1985 was an
Italian journalist, and writer of short story and novels. His books are a mix of low and high culture,
real science with fantasy, history and contemporary life. In the satirical novel The Nonexistent Knight
the story told is of a Knight named Agiluf, who does not possess a body but exists inside a suit of
armor through his will. As Agiluf goes on a quest to prove that the princess of the Scottish king s

The use of medieval romantic literature gave him a backbone as to what he can set the story in and

As he took his ideas he made them not subject or bound to the normality s that these characters should
have. It made them unique and dynamic in which how different they were made them special and

This monstrous disaster unleashed a raging tsunami that wiped out the east coast of Japan. The

dangerous for civilians to be outdoors. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 were a series of
four coordinated attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda that place in New York City and
Washington D.C. taking the lives of 2,996 people. The U.S. Mexico border has approximately more
than 7,000 deaths from people attempting to cross the border since 2000.
In the midst of the terror, one can learn lessons to last them a lifetime. The people who lived through
these events went through a series of obstacles, both mentally and physically. For all three of these
occurrences, there were a vast amount of family members lost, which is never an easy pill to swallow.
Nothing defeats the mental hardship of leaving one s grandmother behind in order to escape and
survive a tsunami. In the midst of these disasters, there were instances of both selfishness and
selflessness. From loss of

Naked Preferences And The Constitution
Because the Constitution i s rooted in civil republicanism, its clauses must reflect accompanying
notions of civic virtue . In Naked Preferences and the Constitution, Professor Cass R. Sunstein
identifies a unifying theme across the various clauses of the Constitution: the prohibition of the
distribution of resources or opportunities to one group rather than another solely on the ground that
those favored have exercised the raw political power to obtain what they want. Sunstein calls this type
of prohibited evil a naked preference. When naked preferences are prohibited, any government action
must be justified by reference to some legitimate public value. Ensuring that government action avoids
naked preferences and upholds recognized public values is how the courts prevent the danger of
factional tyranny. When a group is treated differently than another solely because of a raw exercise of
political power, a naked preference is at work. Self interested groups are thus prohibited from seeking
to obtain wealth or opportunities at the expense of other groups or individuals solely by this raw
exercise. A legitimate public value may be any justification for government that goes beyond the
exercise of raw political power. One of the key considerations is what sort of alleged public values the
courts will accept as legitimate. At this juncture, courts have a few options; the test for smoking out
naked preferences may be weak, strong, or, perhaps,

Family Dynamics In The World
1. In the world there are many different family structures and dynamics that exist. The book uses a
circle to help readers understand the dynamic structure between parent and child, parent and marital
relationship, and child and marital relationship. Different cultures have different family dynamics,
along with changes in their environment. For example, during the great depression many people
moved from small farms to cities in hopes of better pay jobs; technology has also changed the family
dynamic because many parents are relying on television to help raise their kids than ever before. Adult
lifestyles have also changed drastically over the decades, leaving many adults single than ever before.
The book gives this rise in single adults to the fact that more and more adults are waiting to get
married. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

drastically increased with 75 percent of adults live together before marriage (Santrock 447). This
lifestyle does not usually last long, with 1 out of 10 lasting longer than five years, but when there is a

parents nagging at us, his believed that it was not morally right to live together before marriage, while
my dad said that we should live in sin for a while before even thinking about marriage; and many
couples experience what my husband and I experienced. Cohabitating before marriage sounds like a
good idea because you can get a feel for how the person lives when no one is watching, but cohabiting
can actually be more harmful to your marriage than if you were to move in together after marriage. A

Essay on Great Britain Rise as the Global Leader of the...
When examining the bloody and often tumultuous history of Great Britain prior to their ascent to
power, one would not have predicted that they would become the global leader of the 18th century.
Prior to the Treaty of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War, the Spanish and the Holy Roman
Empire held much of the power in Europe. Only with the suppression of Catholicism and the
development of national sovereignty did Great Britain have the opportunity to rise through the ranks.
While much of continental Europe was seeking to strengthen their absolute monarchies and
centralized style of governing, in the 17th and 18th centuries Great Britain was making significant
political changes that reflected the ideals of the Age of Enlightenment. ... Show more content on

Under the Bill of Rights, Parliament would have a say over the direction the monarchy was taking the
country, that the royal power to suspend and eliminate laws was abolished, that the monarchs were
prohibited to levy taxes and the monarchy could not maintain a standing army in peacetime without
first going through Parliament (Glorious Revolution) . The addition of the Bill of Rights to England s
constitution pushed them forward into a political system not dominated by the interests and whims of
the monarchy. William and Mary not only changed the religious course of Great Britain and the idea
of divine right but also allowed the ideas of personal liberties and social welfare, encouraged by the
Enlightenment, to gain momentum. In addition, William and Mary moved forward with their
government by implementing new, modern economic policies which placed more focus on the
merchants of the time. While William and Mary were busy ruling the British empire, John Locke was
busy producing new ideas on how government should treat its people and vice versa. Chiefly
influenced by the political mishap that led to the Glorious Revolution, Locke published his
revolutionary work Two Treatises. In this essay, Locke argued that the reason for the whole existence
of governmental authority is to protect the civil liberties and freedoms of the governed. Locke s named

Mental Illness And Its Effects On The Quality Of Life
As medicine has advanced, so too has the quality of life. Although correlation does not imply
causation and other factors are also responsible for the increase in the quality of life, there is no doubt
that we have become better than ever at diagnosing and treating many ailments. Ethically, though,
there may be problems with the process of diagnosing many diseases, particularly those that have
psychological roots. The predicament arises because there are otherwise no notable physical signs
(e.g. fever, rash, aches and pains) for many mental illnesses, as is the case for many pathological
diseases. A specific illness fitting the criteria of no physical signs is depression. The statistics behind
the disease are horrifying. As a mental health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This paper attempts to argue that the latter statement is reasonable, and the ethics involved with over
diagnosis lead to negative consequences.
In my opinion, due to the loose definition of the disease, financial involvement of pharmaceutical
companies and the relationship between access to drugs due to the ailment and drug addiction, the
increase in diagnosis impacts the credibility of those who suffer from the debilitating disease and
decreases the vote of confidence amongst those responsible for diagnosis.
Traditional wisdom suggests that it s always better safe than sorry when it comes to treating diseases.
This technique is often practiced so long as the different treatment options do no interfere with each
other. For example, when the body is under attack of a bacterial infection, a regimen of antibiotics
treat for any number of bacteria that may be attacking the body. Or in the case of cancers, it is always
better to take part in a screening, even if the outcome is malignant. There is an obvious advantageous
outcome from this procedure that leads to either peace of mind or proactive measures. When dealing
with the complex and conscious organ of the brain, though, treatments are often harmful to the patient.
Antidepressants are the most common form of treatment for depression. The method of action of these
medicines involves

Patrick Gillespie s Let Poetry Die
Patrick Gillespie, in his article Let Poetry Die, argues that poetry is dying, and we should let it. He
explains that the public lost interest in poetry because modern poets refused to accept their criticism.
This caused the quality of poetry to decrease. Gillespie believes that the solution to this problem is to
[l]et [p]oetry [d]ie [s]o that it can be reborn (Gillespie 4). Gillespie s first claim in his article is that
poetry is being forgotten by the public.
He claims that as far as the public is concerned, poetry died with the modernists, for only a few
passing pedestrians could name a poet from the last 50 to 60 years (Gillespie 1). He then states that if
you [a]sk anyone to name a novelist of the last half century, ... names will come tumbling, but if you
[a]sk anyone to name a contemporary poet, ... you will be lucky to scrape by with John Ashbery
(Gillespie 1). Even though John Ashbery is considered one of the greatest poets of the 20th century, he
is unknown to most people. Gillespie believes that the public is forgetting poetry. ... Show more

He states that the Poetry Foundation was headed toward irrelevance, at best, and oblivion at worst, but
a large donation by Ruth Lilly helped the foundation and is the only reason it is what it is today

Poetry Foundation should not have been saved by Lilly s donation. He then continues to criticize Lilly
s contribution, claiming that it thwarted [t]he survival of the fittest, for the Poetry Foundation is
surviving and flourishing because of Lilly s wealth, not because of any intrinsic or hard earned merit
(Gillespie 2). Gillespie believes that the Poetry Foundation does not deserve to survive, for it exists

Christianity and Rastafarianism A Discussion of Six Similarities Christianity and Rastafarianism are
both rooted in Judaism and draw from the Hebrew sacred scriptures. Rastafarianism evolved as a
reaction to the Christianity that was imposed upon African American slaves and their descendents.
There are several other aspects in which these two religions are similar, the purpose of this paper is to
explore some of those similarities. The Christian religion began around 2000 years ago in Judea,
which is now Israel. Christianity began with Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples. Jesus traveled from

November 2nd, 1930 is the living God incarnate, called Jah. He is the black Messiah that will lead the
world s people of African origin into the Promised Land of full emancipation and divine justice. This
is partly because of his titles King of Kings, Lord of Lords and Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
These titles match those of the Messiah mentioned in the book of Revelation, in the Christian New

Rastafarian Bible, begins with, From the beginning there was God and he spake and all things were
made that are made . Both of these sacred texts go on to state that God made man for his glory and
then made woman for man, God called the man Adam and the woman Eve. (Holy Piby) Both of the
sacred texts also agree that God rested on the seventh day and said that men should also use the
seventh day as a day of rest. Third Similarity Worship Practices: Christian worship centers on
meetings or services held on Sunday. These services consist of Biblical readings, communion, and
music either with or without instrumental accompaniment, prayer, a teaching from the Bible in the
form of a sermon and a collection of tithes. Other forms of worship, such

The Irish Easter Rebellion 1916 Essay
The 1916 Irish Easter Uprising
Ever since the occupation of Ireland by the English began in 1169, Irish patriots have fought back
against British rule, and the many Irish rebellions and civil wars had always been defeated. To quash
further rebellion, the Act of Union was imposed in 1800, tying Ireland to the United Kingdom of
England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Laws discriminating against Catholics and the handling of the
Irish Potato Famine of 1845 50 led to increased tension and the proposal of introducing Home Rule
gained support.
In 1913 there was a general strike of workers in Dublin led by James Connolly of the Irish Transport

It was a call for a blood sacrifice in order to free Ireland from British rule. In organising an uprising,

St. Patrick s Day (17th March), Connolly took his Citizen Army on a tour of key Dublin sites which
could be used as strategic strongholds during an uprising.
However, there were many difficulties in organising and executing such a rebellion and one thing the
rebels needed were weapons. Sir Roger Casement had organised for a shipment of as many as 200,000
rifles to be smuggled into Ireland on a neutral German freighter, the Aud. But when Casement arrived
in Ireland on a German submarine he was arrested immediately and the freighter was intercepted by
the Royal Navy and scuttled itself. Another attempt was made to gain large quantities of arms and
ammunition during the actual uprising from the arsenal at Phoenix Park known as Magazine Fort.
However this was not very successful and the rebels seized only a few rifles.
Throughout the organisation of the rebellion, Eoin MacNeill, leader of the minority Volunteers had to
be kept in the dark about the I.R.B. s plans because he believed that his Irish Volunteers should only

Motif Of Sight In Tangerine By Edward Bloor
Tangerine is a realistic fiction novel written by Edward Bloor and is a novel about a dysfunctional
family with white lies covering bitter truths. The motif used in the novel is the motif of sight. In many

ABSTRACT This article establishes the case for public relations as a critical component of an
organization s strategic management processes and of the subsequent strategic management of public

Thus, we added what we called the excellence question: how must public relations be practiced and
the communication function organized for it to contribute the most to organizational effectiveness?
The theoretical answers that we developed to these two research questions as well as our empirical
con rmation of the theory show the importance of an organization viewing public relations as a critical
component of its strategic management processes and of the subsequent strategic management of
public relations. The results of our research further con rm the importance of strategic public relations
in effective organizations: involvement of public relations in strategic management consistently was
the best predictor of excellent public relations.

HIV And The Treatment Of HIV In West Africa
The virus penetrates the host body, weakens the immune system and can cause a life threatening
disease called AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) (Masthead, 1962).
The world health organization estimated that there were approximately 36.7 million people infected
with HIV at the end of 2016 (World Health Organization, 2017). There are two types of HIV, i.e. HIV

some West African countries. They are different in genetic and structural level where HIV 2

Subsequently these dendritic cells move towards lymph node (Altfeld and Gale Jr, 2015) and alert the
immune cells about the virus. For early stage of HIV infection, the innate response can play a vital
role in preventing mucosal transmission before HIV infection is established.
The necessary elements of innate immunity are called Natural killer (NK) which can also be stated as
CD3 CD56+ lymphocytes. They help to communicate between dendritic cells and T cells. The main
roles of NK cells are to control the chronic HIV infection and in HIV defense (Anon, 2017).
While the viral replication is restricted by immune response, adaptive immune system is activated to
fight against the virus. Adaptive immune systems are antigen specific immune response and are more
complex than innate. They recognize the antigen first and create a mass of immune cells which are
specially designed to attack that antigen. If the same type of antigen attacks on future, they also
include a memory for more efficient.
The body triggers two types of adaptive immunity, if HIV infection invades the target cell. One of the
major adaptive immune response is cellular response. After the target cells are infected by the HIV, the

an education, a loving home, and a sense of self worth even when the white community wants to pay
them to abandon these ideals. Throughout the play, Hansberry conveys a sense of anger and disgust.
No family should have to make the choices that confront the Youngers as their dreams are repeatedly

Brooke Herndon Case Study
I am honored to write this letter of recommendation in support of Brooke Herndon, who is applying
for the McKnight Scholars Leadership Program. I have gotten to know Brooke very well recently, as I
have been friends with her family for years. Her uncle Randy Hoff has been a faithful and
hardworking employee of mine, and I have found that Brooke possesses those same traits. Brooke
shows exemplary skills in academics and leadership. She has been very successful in her studies,
consistently finding a spot on her school s Honor Roll. Both her commitment to her education and her
ability to lead can be seen her achievements in high school band. Through her practice and dedication
to the activity, she earned a spot Texas Region II band, and was

Joint Operational Warfare
According to Milan Vego in, Joint Operational Warfare: Theory and Practice, he defined Operational
Art as, a component of military art concerned with the theory and practice of planning, preparing,
conducting, and sustaining campaigns and major operations aimed at accomplishing strategic or
operational objectives in a given theater. (p. I 4) Even though I am not in the business of defining the
term Operational Art, I would still suggest amongst all of the various definitions that I have read this
one definition by Vego appears to be practicable and serves its purpose well. For any military action,
there must be planning, sustaining, executing of a mission such that theater objectives are met. In
other words, a belligerents Center of Gravity must be identified through means of military and policy
actions to obtain success.
This paper will explore the concept of technology, eliminating the operational art as one of the
intermediate components to military art with a focus on amphibious assault. It is not well ... Show

The United Kingdom put its defense under review and decided to reduce the money burden their
Royal Navy put on the British people (White paper, p. A 2). It was considered by their leadership that
smaller platforms of ships like destroyers and frigates could handle littoral combat if needed. So, the
United Kingdom decided to phase out the HMS Intrepid and the HMS Fearless (White Paper, pp.10
11). This of course didn t work out well because the United Kingdom ended up going to war with
Argentina in 1982. Through insurmountable odds, the United Kingdom s Royal Navy, was able to
piece its navy back together and make ships ready for one of the best maritime amphibious assaults
ever conducted since World War

Brooke Gladstone s The Influencing Machine
In, The Influencing Machine, author Brooke Gladstone explains that the changing media does not
change our brains if we do not let it. This goes against all the fears of technology thus far, essentially
making us humans the artificial intelligence. Take, for instance, a schizophrenic. When they do not
take their medicine dark and twisty thoughts are allowed to creep up inside their heads. Alot of times
they see and hear things that are not actually there. This makes them feel like somebody, or some
outside force is causing all of the problems. In actuality, it is themselves. Now, take something that is
a bit more relatable to people. Say you are walking down the street and see a registered sex offender.
Alot of people dont want to see that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were afraid the words and symbols were too complex for the human mind and it would cause
their brains to become too overloaded with information. When the children grew up, they would
ultimately find themselves in the insane asylum. In 1613 Barnaby Rich spoke that books overcharged
the world to where the information from everyday would not be able to be comprehended. Then, the
alphabet was feared that it would cause forgetfulness. People would essentially trust the written words
more than they would orally and it would cause problems. Danny Crichton, in his article, Fear Not
The Robot, tells that this fear is typical. It is like a revolving door. Every few years the fears come
back. Typically they are caused by books and articles. Google s self driving cars have driven almost a
million miles. People are suggesting that their next invention will be self driving diesels. Then the fear
is that the response system will not be up to par and vehicle accidents will increase ten fold. Along
with that, jobs will be put in jeopardy. Taxi drivers will be slowly laid off, and truck drivers will be
plucked

Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their
twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence for
murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and
her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age, race,
and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom.
The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The
Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical black
man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main character and
everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does give advice, it is not
his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a lesson from a white
character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common black/white race
relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative stereotypes with positive
realisms in cinema.
Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race
relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience
identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually

Analysis Of A Clean Well-Lighted Place
Ernest Hemingway uses his unique writing style to captivate audiences with A Clean, Well Lighted
Place. Mainly through a few short pieces of carefully crafted dialogue that not only establish setting
and push the thin plot but also convey the central theme of existentialism. Hemingway s use of plot is
brilliant. Hemingway has a way of structuring his stories as to not confuse the reader. Hemingway s
plot keeps the story moving at a quick pace, and makes the story read smoothly. A Clean, Well Lighted
Place is a short story that contains mostly of dialogue. It is hard to identify what it is about
Hemingway s plot that works so well. Barbra A. Archana states, The simple story line is so deftly
handled with controlled techniques that the outcome leaves an indelible effect. The mere four page
story, evocatively chiseled and crafted, remains a chilling little masterpiece (Archana 3). Barbra A.
Archana s thoughts can help a reader of Hemingway s work appreciate his work s plot. In Hemingway
s story, the reader first sees an old deaf man sitting by himself in a café drinking away his troubles.
The story tells us that the old man had recently attempted to hang himself, but failed when his niece
saved him. Hemingway has a way of making A Clean, Well Lighted Place more than just a simple
story. The focus of the story is two waiters, differing in age. The two waiters spend the story trying to
predict the reasons that were contributing to the old man s depression. The story begins in a unique
way. It begins in such a way that there is no way the reader can predict the upcoming conflict. As the
plot moves forward the reader learns more about the old man. The reader, at first imagines a conflict is
about to arise between the drunken, old man and a couple of tired waiters, but the real conflict is much
more philosophical in nature. As the waiters discuss the old man s pitiable life, the reader becomes
aware of their opposing views of life. By the end of the story, the reader is no longer focusing on the
old man or the younger waiter but rather on the older waiter and the existential concepts he comes to
embody. Much of A Clean, Well lighted place takes place in a single setting. The café is as the title

Essay on themes in Things Fall Apart and Second Coming
Similar Themes in Things Fall Apart and The Second Coming
The novel Things Fall Apart examines African culture before the colonial infiltration. Achebe s novel
forces us to examine the customs and traditions that make up an informal culture. At times we may
find some their practices appalling, but Achebe makes us realize that the traditions and customs are
what essentially hold the Ibo together. Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart with the intention of changing
the common view of African culture. He wrote the novel from an insider s perspective, revealing that
African culture was not solely based on barbaric and mindless rituals. Achebe reveals the affects of the
colonial infiltration on African societies. Through his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Achebe portrays the life of the Ibo tribe before the first touch of the white men. Before the colonial
infiltration the Ibo had a very cyclic view of time. Their beleifs and rituals were practiced the same rit
at the same time every year. Where as the white man s traditions and view of time were much more
linear. Right from the Ibo s first encounter with the whites, the reader can observe the cycle as being
unchangeably altered. It is the coming of thei missionaries which brings the disruption. After
thousands of years of unviolated and untouched traditions, Okonkwo returns after just seven years of
exile and finds his village turned upside down. In addition, the Ibo people fail to recognize him as a
leader. Their new religon and government and trading stores were very much in the people s eyes and
minds, the talked and though about little else.. The whites swept away the Ibo tradition and heritage.
Here, Okonkwo can be seen as the falconer as depicted in Yeats poem. He was once looked upon as a
respected leader, but now the falcon the Ibo people do not hear the falconer, Okonkwo.
The disruption of the Ibo cycle is

  • 2. Essay On Henry Rifle The original Henry rifle was a sixteen shot .44 caliber rimfire, lever action, breech loading rifle patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860 after three years of design work.[1] The Henry was an improved version of the earlier Volition Repeating Rifle. The Henry used copper (later brass) rimfire cartridges with a 216 grain (14.0 gram, 0.490 ounce) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g, 0.056 oz.) of gunpowder. Production was very small (150 to 200 a month) until middle of 1864. Nine hundred were manufactured between summer and October 1862; by 1864, production had peaked at 290 per month, bringing the total to 8,000 manufactured.[2] By the time production ended in 1866, approximately 14,000 units had been manufactured. For a Civil War soldier, owning a Henry rifle was a point of pride.[3] Letters home would call them Sixteen or Seventeen Shooters, depending whether a round was loaded in the chamber.[citation needed] The US Government purchased about 3,140 (early ... To the amazed muzzleloader armed Confederates who had to face this deadly sixteen shooter , it was called a rifle that you could load on Sunday and shoot all week long. [6] Those few Confederate troops who came into possession of captured Henry rifles had little way to resupply the special ammunition used by the weapon, making its widespread use by Confederate forces impractical. The rifle was, however, known to have been used at least in part by some fifteen different Confederate units in Louisiana, Texas, and Virginia, as well as the personal bodyguards of Confederate President Jefferson ... Singapore healthcare system Singapore is a third world country located on the southern tip of the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea (Moh.gov.sg, 2015). It is a well developed country within Southeast Asia. The territory is an island shaped like a diamond. In late 1960, the island expanded due to land retrieval. Singapore core principles are a meritocracy, multiculturalism, and secularism (Moh.gov.sg, 2015). The country is a parliamentary republic, and the officials languages are English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil. The ethnic groups that makes up the country are Chinese, Malays, Indians, Eurasians, Caucasians and others. Buddhism is the religion and after Buddhism is Christianity (Moh.gov.sg, 2015). Islam, Taoism, and Hinduism are religions in Singapore. The country is diverse in many aspects such as culture and religion. The government ensures that Singapore healthcare is affordable by implementing Medisave, MediShield, Medifund and ElderShield (Hwee Sing, Yee Wei and Vrijhoef, 2014). Out of pocket expenses may be small, but cost do accumulate over time. Patients are treated like private patients even within a public system. Private sectors offer services to religion patients, privately insured and public patients if they can afford the cost because the out of pocket cost is ridiculously expense. Singapore healthcare today is acceptable and reasonable. Singaporeans are required to have a saving plan which is Medisave (Hwee Sing, Yee Wei and Vrijhoef, 2014). Medisave ... • 4. The Street Gang In LETB In LETB, Harry is scapegoated by the roving street gang. Harry commits the horrendous act of molesting a young boy, however that is not grounds for dismissing his death as justice according to Girard s theory. This is further proved because Selby has the street gang murder him. Throughout the section Strike , they show constant disdain for Harry and use him for beer and food. The importance of the street gang s role as the scapegoaters , is that they show homosexual tendencies throughout the novel . However here, they call Harry a freak and abuse him (176). After they crucify him, they go into the bathroom of the Greeks, seemingly happier than they had been since they beat a sailor up in Another Day, Another Dollar . In both the incident with the sailor and with Harry, questions of masculinity and impotence were the forefront causes for the street gang s violence. This suggests that Selby shows their inability to come to terms with their own sexuality; and how it is much easier to strike out than accept their feelings, as seen in above in the chapter on Hypermasculinity . The rape of the prostitute Tralala is also suggestive of this, as it seems to include most of the males in Sunset Park. They come together to violently rape her, seemingly to take out their own feelings of inferiority and impotence on her. Like with Girard s sexually aggressive goat , Tralala is chosen because she is seen as an abject woman. In the conservative conforming world of 1950s America , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is due to artists being heavily involved in such research to perfect art, hence the term scientific realism. Within this critique, DeLillo examines the pervasiveness of technology and its unavoidable interaction with the human experience of reality. This technological influence is dramatized throughout the novel in many ways; for example, one method utilized by DeLillo to expose the reader to the ubiquity of technology comes from frequent interludes to the text, which serve little purpose other than to accommodate trivial technological sounds and discourse. Furthermore, his status is maintained even though it is impossible to know whether the information Heinrich puts forth is factual (205). Evidence for this can also be found in the scene at the boy scouts camp, when Jack and Babette observe Heinrich lecturing information on the toxic event (DeLillo 134). In Conroy s analysis of this scene, he depicts Heinrich as some form of profit, by likening the scene to Jesus s appearance in the temple (205). One of the main ideologies the book explains about Steve Jobs is that he created something not with the thought of earning revenues, but to create history. That is one Steve s idea I would not follow if I had to make a decision within my company. I liked the idea of Steve Jobs repeating things to his employees because it transmits the exact idea he wants them to know. I believe it is a great way to have everything under your control. • 16. Japanese Exclusionism Pros And Cons The reasons for immigration to the land of opportunity called America in the early years of our country are clear. America was seen as a place where an individual could start over with an equal chance of success or failure, offered jobs, no matter what country he or she came from. This proved to be true for Irish immigrants, German American immigrants, English and black immigrants that came to America. However, this was not the same for many of the Japanese immigrants. One of the many challenges Japanese immigrants faced when they arrived in the United States was the efforts of politicians, intellectuals, and community leaders to label Japanese an undesirable race. Known collectively as the anti Japanese exclusion movement, these efforts ranged from introducing discriminatory legislation that discouraged further Japanese immigration, encouraging and enforcing boycotts of Japanese businesses, and spreading propaganda that offered a multitude of reasons to justify the exclusion of Japanese from the United States. The Anti Japanese Exclusion Movement came on the heels of the earlier Chinese exclusion movement. When Chinese laborers began immigrating to the U.S., especially the West Coast, in the mid nineteenth century in pursuit of work, other groups (some of which consisted of European immigrants) sought to exclude Chinese on the premise that as Asiatics or Mongolians they were inherently unassimilable. In particular, these exclusionists objected to the class background and what they argued was the questionable morality of these immigrants who were mostly laborers and (in the case of women) prostitutes, arguing that as non Christians these immigrants lacked basic morals and as such would be detrimental to American society. Using tactics ranging from brute violence to more subtle legal means particularly the Page Law and 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act these groups succeeded in barring most Chinese immigration. By identifying Chinese as inherently undesirable and therefore not worthy of being allowed into the U.S., and by laying the groundwork for associating Asia with a paranoid vision of the impending onslaught of Asian invaders (also known as yellow peril), the anti Chinese exclusion movement ... • 22. Naked Preferences And The Constitution Because the Constitution i s rooted in civil republicanism, its clauses must reflect accompanying notions of civic virtue . In Naked Preferences and the Constitution, Professor Cass R. Sunstein identifies a unifying theme across the various clauses of the Constitution: the prohibition of the distribution of resources or opportunities to one group rather than another solely on the ground that those favored have exercised the raw political power to obtain what they want. Sunstein calls this type of prohibited evil a naked preference. When naked preferences are prohibited, any government action must be justified by reference to some legitimate public value. Ensuring that government action avoids naked preferences and upholds recognized public values is how the courts prevent the danger of factional tyranny. When a group is treated differently than another solely because of a raw exercise of political power, a naked preference is at work. Self interested groups are thus prohibited from seeking to obtain wealth or opportunities at the expense of other groups or individuals solely by this raw exercise. A legitimate public value may be any justification for government that goes beyond the exercise of raw political power. One of the key considerations is what sort of alleged public values the courts will accept as legitimate. At this juncture, courts have a few options; the test for smoking out naked preferences may be weak, strong, or, perhaps, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When examining the bloody and often tumultuous history of Great Britain prior to their ascent to power, one would not have predicted that they would become the global leader of the 18th century. Prior to the Treaty of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War, the Spanish and the Holy Roman Empire held much of the power in Europe. Only with the suppression of Catholicism and the development of national sovereignty did Great Britain have the opportunity to rise through the ranks. The addition of the Bill of Rights to England s constitution pushed them forward into a political system not dominated by the interests and whims of the monarchy. William and Mary not only changed the religious course of Great Britain and the idea of divine right but also allowed the ideas of personal liberties and social welfare, encouraged by the Enlightenment, to gain momentum. Traditional wisdom suggests that it s always better safe than sorry when it comes to treating diseases. These awesome rats also have the legs of a kangaroo. They can jump 9 feet in one jump. They jump this high to avoid predators. I would love to be able to jump that high when I see a rattler. Kangaroo rats, like many desert creatures, are nocturnal. This gives them a higher risk of getting eaten by the many other nocturnal predators. But with their many adaptations, the night is best to scavenge for food so that they can stay cool when out and about. Because of the need for constant cool body temperature, they plug the entrance of their burrow with soil during the day to maintain a normal body temperature. This behavior helps with Homeostasis. Kangaroo rats are often seen in groups or colonies in the desert wasteland. But there is no social order of any sorts, they keep to themselves unless in mating season. Their burrows are spaced out from each other at certain distance depending on the abundance of food in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although Walter lost the money and also her dream, Ruth forgave him and encouraged him to start everything over. Like Ruth and Walter, we initially think that any offer of cash is a blessing for the Youngers because it represents a chance to abandon their dingy apartment and begin a new life. But Hansberry shows that no price is high enough for freedom. The black characters she describes must defend their right to an education, a loving home, and a sense of self worth even when the white community wants to pay them to abandon these ideals. Throughout the play, Hansberry conveys a sense of anger and disgust. No family should have to make the choices that confront the Youngers as their dreams are repeatedly ... • 41. Joint Operational Warfare According to Milan Vego in, Joint Operational Warfare: Theory and Practice, he defined Operational Art as, a component of military art concerned with the theory and practice of planning, preparing, conducting, and sustaining campaigns and major operations aimed at accomplishing strategic or operational objectives in a given theater. (p. I 4) Even though I am not in the business of defining the term Operational Art, I would still suggest amongst all of the various definitions that I have read this one definition by Vego appears to be practicable and serves its purpose well. For any military action, there must be planning, sustaining, executing of a mission such that theater objectives are met. In other words, a belligerents Center of Gravity must be identified through means of military and policy actions to obtain success. This paper will explore the concept of technology, eliminating the operational art as one of the intermediate components to military art with a focus on amphibious assault. It is not well ... This of course didn t work out well because the United Kingdom ended up going to war with Argentina in 1982. This goes against all the fears of technology thus far, essentially making us humans the artificial intelligence. Take, for instance, a schizophrenic. When they do not take their medicine dark and twisty thoughts are allowed to creep up inside their heads. Alot of times they see and hear things that are not actually there. This makes them feel like somebody, or some outside force is causing all of the problems. In actuality, it is themselves. Now, take something that is a bit more relatable to people. Then, the alphabet was feared that it would cause forgetfulness. People would essentially trust the written words more than they would orally and it would cause problems. Danny Crichton, in his article, Fear Not The Robot, tells that this fear is typical. It is like a revolving door. Every few years the fears come back. Typically they are caused by books and articles. • 43. Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence for murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age, race, and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom. The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical black man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main character and everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does give advice, it is not his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a lesson from a white character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common black/white race relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative stereotypes with positive realisms in cinema. Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of A Clean Well-Lighted Place Ernest Hemingway uses his unique writing style to captivate audiences with A Clean, Well Lighted Place. Mainly through a few short pieces of carefully crafted dialogue that not only establish setting and push the thin plot but also convey the central theme of existentialism. Hemingway s use of plot is brilliant. Hemingway has a way of structuring his stories as to not confuse the reader. Hemingway s plot keeps the story moving at a quick pace, and makes the story read smoothly. A Clean, Well Lighted Place is a short story that contains mostly of dialogue. It is hard to identify what it is about Hemingway s plot that works so well. Barbra A. Archana states, The simple story line is so deftly handled with controlled techniques that the outcome leaves an indelible effect. The mere four page story, evocatively chiseled and crafted, remains a chilling little masterpiece (Archana 3). Barbra A. Archana s thoughts can help a reader of Hemingway s work appreciate his work s plot. In Hemingway s story, the reader first sees an old deaf man sitting by himself in a cafĂ© drinking away his troubles. The story tells us that the old man had recently attempted to hang himself, but failed when his niece saved him. Hemingway has a way of making A Clean, Well Lighted Place more than just a simple story. The focus of the story is two waiters, differing in age. The two waiters spend the story trying to predict the reasons that were contributing to the old man s depression. The story begins in a unique way. It begins in such a way that there is no way the reader can predict the upcoming conflict. As the plot moves forward the reader learns more about the old man. The reader, at first imagines a conflict is about to arise between the drunken, old man and a couple of tired waiters, but the real conflict is much more philosophical in nature. As the waiters discuss the old man s pitiable life, the reader becomes aware of their opposing views of life. By the end of the story, the reader is no longer focusing on the old man or the younger waiter but rather on the older waiter and the existential concepts he comes to embody. Much of A Clean, Well lighted place takes place in a single setting. The cafĂ© is as the title ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Achebe s novel forces us to examine the customs and traditions that make up an informal culture. At times we may find some their practices appalling, but Achebe makes us realize that the traditions and customs are what essentially hold the Ibo together.
