Memorable Day Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of a "Memorable Day" can be both a challenging and rewarding
endeavor. The difficulty arises not from the scarcity of events to write about, but rather from the
abundance of choices. The challenge lies in selecting a specific day or experience that not only
holds personal significance but also resonates with a broader audience.
The process of creating a memorable day essay involves introspection, reflection, and careful
consideration of various moments in one's life. It requires the writer to delve deep into their
memories, extracting details that evoke emotions and convey a sense of importance.
Additionally, the task demands effective storytelling skills to captivate the reader's attention and
convey the significance of the chosen day.
Furthermore, the challenge extends to the need for a structured and coherent narrative. Crafting
an essay involves organizing thoughts logically, developing a strong introduction, body, and
conclusion, and ensuring a smooth flow between paragraphs. Striking the right balance between
descriptive language and conciseness is crucial, as it adds depth to the narrative without
overwhelming the reader.
Moreover, the writer must be mindful of the overall tone and voice of the essay. Finding the
appropriate emotional resonance and expression is key to making the essay relatable and
engaging. It requires a delicate touch to convey the personal impact of the memorable day while
allowing readers to connect with the broader themes explored in the essay.
In conclusion, writing an essay on a memorable day is a multifaceted task that demands
creativity, introspection, and effective storytelling. The difficulty lies not in the scarcity of
material but in the process of selecting, shaping, and presenting a narrative that resonates with
both the writer and the audience. However, overcoming these challenges can lead to a profound
and rewarding essay that captures the essence of a significant life experience.

Unromancing The Dream Analysis

Reading 7: Unromancing the Dream Summary
The reading begins with two researchers Aserinsky and Dement, researching into why
humans need sleep. Then, it begins to talk about another two researchers, Allan
Hobson and Robert McCarley. They both came up with a new theory about dreaming,
which was in essence, was that dreams are nothing more than your attempt to
interpret random electrical impulses produced automatically in your brain during
REM sleep. (Hock 2013). Basically what they were saying is that while we sleep, a
part of our brain produces electrical charges in the brain stem. While we sleep most
other parts of the brain are inactive, but the brain stem isn t. Hobson and
Non-Traditional Childbirth
In this week s response we are given the choice to choose to respond on the topic
about a type of non traditional childbirth (i.e. hospital) of our choice that we would
want to know more about and What we learn before we re born from TED talk by
Annie Murphy Paul . This week I am choosing to respond to a type of non traditional
childbirth(i.e. hospital). The type of childbirth I chose to talk about is a water birth.
As interesting as this topic may be and all of the possible childbirths there are this
stood out for me because I believe that it is amazing that a child can be born in a
little pool.
First off, by definition a water birth is a birth in which the mother spends the final
stages of labor in a birthing pool, with delivery
Days Of Heaven Analysis
Days of Heaven
This week s movie was Days of Heaven by Terrence Malick. The movie, shows this
one couple (Brooke Adams and Richard Gere) and a child (Linda Manz) finding
ways of achieving ultimate success and walking away from the extremely labor
intensive environment that they were used too. A solution they think of is by trying
to swindle this rich guy (Sam Shepard) by pretending that the relationship that the
couple had was a brother sister relationship. He doesn t their false pretenses and
marries the female counterpart. In addition, the male counterpart heard that the rich
gut was about to die in a year. However, after a year, he still lives and in turn causes
the couple to turn anxious. Succeeding events after the nonexistent death led to
further division among them and the gradually caring for the rich guy. Yet, with all of
these events he dies because of the male counterpart killing him. Anyways, from this
short summary of the movie, the watcher has a chance to view, look, and understand
the actress and actors in certain shots and angles . Some of these shots range from the
beautiful countryside or the raging inferno both internally and externally of the
characters. Days of Heaven by Terrence Malick uses many various shots to help
emphasize and prolong the memory of characters or nature into the watcher s eye.
One shot that really caught my eyes was when everyone was eating in the gazebo.
The shot that was used here was a long shot a shot that includes an area
The Scary Interview
Interview Exam results are not enough; Cambridge likes to see what it is getting. A
personal statement is also required, which if compelling enough will result in an
invitation to be interviewed. This is the most crucial and scary part of the application
process and is designed to investigate the student s suitability. There are myths
surrounding the interviews. Contrary to widely held views, the admissions tutors
state they do not set out to trick candidates with weird questions, but discuss issues
around the chosen subject and personal statement. Students need to display flexible
minds that are receptive to teaching; they have to be passionate and processes mental
stamina. Being nervous will not count against the student but they do need to voice
and defend opinions with logic. Many successful candidates said they relished the
opportunity to discuss their opinions with a world leading authority, finding it both
challenging and invigorating. Choosing a college The university prospectus, has in
the past, informed potential applicants that the college they choose is not that
important because the teaching will be the same. Many students disagree. Teaching
may well be similar but it is still vital that students choose a college they will feel
comfortable in: after all for undergraduates this is going to be home for at least three
years. Ranges of unique colleges, large and small, are available for consideration
from the very old with medieval roots to cutting edge modern

25 August 2017 While it is up to the student to make sure they keep up their grades
and complete all their school work, a well managed learning environment will
motivate a student to do well, unlike an unwelcoming and unsafe one. This gives
students who attend a healthy and safe school an academic advantage. Creating better
programs and effective policies will improve student s attitudes and performance in
class.

This will negatively affect the teacher s first years of being an educator when their
own classroom management program isn t teaching all the necessary methods. A
teacher who has to improve classroom management methods will affect the students

management is addressed in multiple courses reveals far too great a degree of
incoherence in what teacher candidates learn and what they are expected to do in PK

they scored differently on different tests. While students with ADHD scored lower in
working memory, they had scored higher on the creativity index. The article even

Explain The Four Stages Of Estrous Cycle
Estrus is the period of sexual receptivity for a female animal. The estrous cycle has
four stages: proestrus, estrus, metestrus, and diestrus. Proestrus is the first stage, and
lasts approximately three days. During this stage of estrus, follicle growth begins due
to the decrease in progesterone and increase in follicle stimulating hormone and
estrogen. The corpus luteum is disintegrated, and the endometrium(the uterine lining)
begins developing. After proestrus, is estrus, which lasts approximately twelve to
eighteen hours. Estrus is the time when animals are considered to be in heat . The
female animal shows signs of behavioral estrus (standing to be mounted, mounting
others, frequent urination, a winking vulva, and the occasional... Show more content

It stimulates follicular development and estrogen synthesis. It sends a positive
feedback to the ovaries. Estrogen originates from the granulosa cells in the follicle. It
regulates gonadotropin releasing hormone, luteinizing hormone, and follicle
stimulating hormone, and also increases sexual behavior. Estrogen sends a positive
feedback to the surge center in he hypothalamus. Prostaglandin F2 alpha originates
from the uterus endometrium. It destroys the corpus luteum and causes contractions
in the uterus, as well as abortion. Progesterone originates from the corpus luteum
/placenta. It maintains pregnancy, inhibits gonadotropin releasing hormone, and also
prevents estrus and ovulation. Progesterone sends a negative feedback to the
hypothalamus. Thanks to the six main hormones gonadotropin releasing hormone,
luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, estrogen, prostaglandin F2 alpha,
and progesterone female animals go through the period of sexual receptivity called
estrus. The estrous cycle has four cycles: proestrus, estrus, metestrus, and diestrus. All
species of animals must go through the estrous cycle in order to
Cosmetic Chemistry Personal Statement
When people fall in love with people, I fall in love with cosmetic. My desire to
learn more about cosmetic began when I found out there are many makeup
products contain animal ingredients or its by product. From there, I started to do
more research and studies on the components in a cosmetic product. As a Muslim
who is a makeup enthusiast, it is uncommonly important for me to wear makeup
that is free of animal and alcohol content. At that point, I thought to myself, what if
I create my own halal cosmetic line. I have always loved the idea of creating
something by myself and it gives me a huge sense of gratification upon actually
completing it. Also, the opportunity to be involved in something which makes a
difference to the world is something I greatly desire. I believe there s no other way
to feel these achievements than when I am a cosmetic chemist. The course I have
chosen will able to give me the pathway to realise my ambition as a cosmetic
chemist. My main aspiration is to create my own halal cosmetic brand which is
animal free and vegan friendly. I do not have a favourite subject because I enjoy
learningfrom a various educational field. However, I do find myself more enthusiast

Newman Sociology
According to author Newman Sociology is defined as an systematic study of
human societies (Newman, 2010, p. 6). Sociology comprises of a set of complex
theses that not only construct the textbook, but will guide the reader towards a

decisions, interactions, and so on (Newman, 2010, p. 6) the above list produce a

Effects Of Cigarette Smoking
Cigarette smoking is one of the strong sources of killer diseases in the Philippines
and other countries worldwide. Young and adult men and women are engaged in
smoking due to cases such as peer pressure, poor religious beliefs, stress, etc. As the
trend ascends, harmful effects on one s health rises directly. In order to lessen the
motivation of smoking, countries implement laws. One of the ways to inform and
to make Filipinos hesitate, if not, quit smoking is through the graphic health
warnings (GHWs) included in the cigarette packaging. Cigarettes are considered
deadly and very addictive. With no warnings associated for its usage, rise of death
from smoking related diseases will continue going up. Not only the smokers are at
risk, but people exposed to second hand smoke are susceptible to negative effects of
tobaccoconsumption. It can be considered as passive smoking, increasing the
possibility of having cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and harm in children s
health as its harmful effects. In order to discourage consumers and inform people of
its negative effects, the government provides regulations to tobacco products. It is a
struggle for the government of a country to make sure it has healthy citizens and
environment. Providing programs to control people s involvement to cigarettes is a
must. Through these applications, it can promote wellness to people affected as such
may interrupt the appeal and ease of access to such products. Firm and cohesive ideas

Public Health Problem Is Carbon Monoxide ( Co ) Poisoning
One public health problem is carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a gas that
has no odor nor color and can lead to sudden sickness or mortality (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2011). CO is formed whenever fossil fuel
is burned in in an automobile, generator, furnace, grill, or anywhere else (CDC,
2011). As a result, the CO emitted from these sources may build up in spaces that
are closed off or semi closed. Consequently, those individuals, as well as animals,
found in these locations become poisoned from the emission (CDC, 2011). Therefore,
there are number of leading stakeholders involved with preventing this from
happening. There are a number of stakeholders involved in the prevention of CO
poisoning. Some of the key stakeholders involved in the prevention of CO poisoning
includes group/organizations like the CDC, Underwriters Laboratories and the
Consumer Products Safety Commission, Air Conditioning Contractors of America,
and consumers (CDC, 2011). Each one plays a particular role in preventing CO
poisoning. The CDC has several functions in preventing poisoning from CO. This
would include surveillance, research, and education (CDC, 2011). The CDC provides
monitoring, evaluations, and offers observation information in addition to working
with nationwide information resources and partnering with states to increase
surveillance of CO poisoning outside of mortality (CDC, 2011). Additionally, the
CDC participates in several events associated with
The Culture Of The Egyptian Culture
The word culture is a term that is used quite often, but what does it mean exactly? If
you were to ask a group of philosophical anthropologists whose job it is to study
culture, you may get a different definition from each of them. However, even though
definitions of culture may differ, many of them do emphasize similar things. The
definition of culture is the beliefs, customs arts, of a particular society, group, or time.
A particular society that has its own beliefs, ways of life, which would include such
things as language, beliefs, values, customs, laws. What is particularly interesting
about cultures is that each culture, no matter where it is found, shares at least five

The Nile River has portrayed a huge role in Egypt throughout history. Historically
the Egyptians were among the first to record data from the Nile River. The Nile

The focus should be to advertize BAM as a Product that fits small firm needs instead
of marketing it just as a low cost solution . This strategy would reflect better on the
Loctite brand and would not jeopardize existing equipment (sold to large firms)
sales. 2) Combine BAM advertisements with the Super Bonder adhesive
advertisement. This would help to promote joint sales as well as help reduce
advertisement costs. The selling point for small firms is low cost equipment that
optimizes use of high quality adhesive and reduces total cost. By eliminating
clogging, providing faster application and reducing assembly errors (Exhibit 8),
BAM will be positioned as the product that reduces mess and helps small firms
save on labor and adhesive costs (more under pricing strategy). 3) Include
brochures on Bond A Matic with 1 lb packages of Super Bonder adhesives with 10
packs of 1 oz Super Bonder bottles. Include product information highlighting
benefits such as anti clogging, no mess/waste (and others in Exhibit 8), a response

that come from brochure response. 4) Include one year limited warranty (include
warranty registration card) instead of 30 day free trial to reduce return expected
costs. This plan would also go well with the Loctite brand image. 5) Offer bulk

Japanese Motivations for the Attack on Pearl Harbor
A. Plan of the Investigation This investigation asks the question, what was the
motivation of the Japanese government behind the air attack on Pearl Harbor? To
assess these motivations, the significance of Pear Harbor, the result of the attack, the
overall intentions of the Japanese government, as well as the relations with them and
the United States are being identified and evaluated in this investigation. In addition,
the attack itself must be evaluated to have a full understanding of the attack and its

C. Evaluation of sources
The novel Pearl Harbor Ghosts: The Legacy of December 7, 1941 by Thurston
Clarke is an in depth look into the impact of the events leading up to the attack on
Pearl Harbor. Clarke graduated from Yale University, Columbia University and the
School of Oriental and African Studies. He has written 12 books, all but one being
non fiction. He often writes about historical and modern events. This sources
purpose is to analyze events leading to the day of the attack on Pearl Harbor
through the accounts of those that experienced it. The value of this book comes
from its clear focus on detail and accuracy. The facts in this novel are all told from
the perspective of those who were present. Clarke s insight and research blends in
with these accounts to give a full view of the event. These points are,
unfortunately, a hindering factor of the source. The major limitation of this source
is it s narrow point of view. Interviewees are always in some respect sympathetic to
the U.S. Also, the author doesn t state when he was given his information. This
means some interviews could have been recorded years after the event, making
them less credible. A much different piece of work is The Pacific War, 1931 1945: A

Progressivism and populism were two of the biggest and most popular reform
movements in American society. Even though the ideologies are similar in certain
aspects, they are very different in terms of sources of support and objectives.
Progressivism was mostly supported by the middle class citizens, while Populismwas
formed by Western farmers and involved the common people more. All in all, the
two movements were very important reform movements that shaped later American
ideologies. Populism was started in the late 19th century by agrarian people of the
South. Those with farming background believed the government was favoring banks
and industry, so they formed this reform movement It was mostly supported by the
poor sections of the rural South. On the other hand, Progressivism arose in the
beginning of the 20th century. It was supported by the middle class, who were angry
with the corruption of the rich and the appeasement of the poor by the government.
The two reform movements were created by two different types of people, and also

It was also a down up movement, which largely involves the masses in the idea and
decision making departments. Because of this, social groups or organizations for
the masses were formed, like the Grange and Farmers Alliance. Progressivism arose
as a response to the vast changes brought by modernization, such as the growth of
large corporations and railroads, and fears of corruption in American politics. One of
the main objectives of this movement was to encourage efficiency. Even though they
strived for modernization like the Progressivists, the way of achieving the goals was
Racism In The United States
Racism takes place every single day whether people realize it or not. For example,
African Americans sometimes face more strict punishment for crimes than white
people, people portraying all races to be equal, and even asking somebody what they
are could be taken as a racist comment. It is often said that racismis a belief or attitude
that anyone who unfairly judges another based on raceis considered racist. Most
people have the ability to choose if they want to be a risist or not. It is their own
choice. Being your own person is what helps influence their thoughts about racism.
For instance, according to the documentary 13th director, AVa DuVernay, she tends to
focus the main point on the fact that people who have power are the main

ever gives the casual passer by a brief glimpse of its gorgeous site, keeping most of
its vast spaces a secret. Hidden behind the college owned houses and high walls, is
a lush and green site complete with a lake containing giant fish and cherished
ducks; neither ever having featured on the hall menu. There is some dispute with
Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford as to who produces the most intelligent mallards in
the country. The informal gardens, known as the Paddock, provide the social
epicentre in the warmer weather and students are allowed to work and play on the
grass. This contrasts with the formal Front Court, which is sacrosanct and only
ducks and the occasional fellow are allowed to venture. The snowmen that appear,
as if by magic, in the bleak mid winter nights are tolerated as long as they deliver
their essays on time. Strong equal opportunities policy The college is right in the city
centre next to the bus station and is home to 140 postgraduates and 487
undergraduates, in a roughly equal gender divide. Women were first admitted in
1979. Emmanuel boasts an excellent academic record, which results in around five
times as many applications as there are places. It has a strong equal opportunities

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, an estimated
eighteen million acres of forest are lost each year. Forests are disappearing 2.4 acres

Pollution comes in many different forms such as air, water and soil. Air pollution
occurs when wood and other substances are burned and release dangerous gases
causing global warming. When these gases are released into the air, it gets in the
clouds causing it to mix with the water. Because of this it, acid rain

women have to their suffering. The Virgin Suicides illustrates the five Lisbon sisters

Lux blames the boys for their deaths and hints through her behavior that they are
going to kill themselves: I ve got to get some fresh air. You guys have got me all
worked up. She smiled then, a loose, clumsy smile, genuine, unpretty (Eugenides
206). Lux is frustrated with the boys because of their inability to understand the girl s
struggles as seen when she says, you guys have got me all worked up. This explains
how their naivety in the situation, that has detrimental effects, shows how uncaring
they are of the girls. Furthermore, the boy s description of Lux leaving to get fresh air
by using verbs such as clumsy smile and unpretty, display how the boys cannot
understand the internal hardship but only focus on their outer appearance. As a
result, the Lisbons all kill themselves because the men directly show that they cannot
understand or help the girls, causing the women to realize how men perceive them
and their choice to solve it (death).
Furthermore, the boy s description of the Lisbon girls reveals their perception of
women through sex and love. At the end of the novel the boys demonstrate how the
divide in gender prohibits them in understanding the Lisbons girls struggle. The boys
describe the Lisbons possessions by oversexualizing them, capturing their detachment
from the emotion of the girls and focusing on the physical aspects: Bedrooms filled

Essay about Sam Phillips, the Father of Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll has come a long way since 1952 when music business icon Sam
Phillips created it. Sam Phillips is considered the father of Rock and Roll. He went
against the social normality of segregated music, and produced music that he felt
should be made. Even when faced with career ending criticism, Phillips continued on
making history. Not only is Sam Phillipsresponsible for the being the origin of the
seemingly everlasting Rock and Rollmovement, he segregated music amidst all kinds
of cultural disruption with civil rights. Sam Phillips is considered a musical
revolutionary who, despite adversity, changed the world forever.

Elvis Presley was signed to Sun Records in 1954. This was monumental for
Phillips s stand on racial boundaries in music. Elvis drew national attention to Sun
Records which, in part, sparked slight popularity for other Sun artists such as
Howlin Wolf, B.B. King, and Roscoe Gordon (Sun Records 1). This point in time
is known as the origin of Rock and Roll. Contrary to what Rock and Roll is now, it
was only popular within a certain demographic of people for a long time
Furthermore, Sun Records and Sam Phillips went under fire by local radio stations
and parents everywhere. Phillips s creation, Rock and Roll, caused an outrage. It
was seen as provocative towards young people, which was its most popular
demographic. Music from artists such as Elvis, King, and Gordon were banned from
radio stations and televisions (Impact of Rock Roll on USA 5). Criticism from other
well known music moguls didn t stop Sam. Nevertheless, Phillips kept on putting out
influential, black music. Despite the hardening Civil Rights movement in the 1950 s,
songs by African Americanartists slowly became extremely popular. In 1958, the
first black artist reached the top of the billboard hot 100. This marked the climax of
Phillip s goal to make popular music from an unpopular race. Sam Phillips s
persistence on creating popular black records and the equality protests go hand in
hand. The exposure of the protests and music gave new
How Did Civilization Influence The Inca Civilization
During the time of 1300 C.E. a civilization called the Incas began their lives in the
range of the Andes Mountains. The Incas influenced and impacted the certain parts of
the world with their way of living and the aspects that made them a unique culture.
The Incas had various different cultures that were recognized as intelligent and
creative. This civilization formed a very strong government which had a substantial
impact on the types of governments following this one. In charge of the Incas was
Pachacuti, who was known for being a very powerful leader. Pachacuti used various

Anil s Ghost Essay
In the novel Anil s Ghost by Micheal Ondaatje, characters develop deep relationships
and unveil dramatic secrets through a series of traumatic events. Anil s Ghost is set in
a time of political conflict in Sri Lanka, revealing unfolding mysteries, murders, and
never ending brutality. Each character uncovers the truth about one another, taking
pieces of his or her own life, to reflect upon various hardships.
During the civil war era, the protagonist, Anil Tissera, a high specialized
anthropologist is sent to uncover several murders occurring in her country of Sri
Lanka. During her various discoveries, she reflects back on her life and uncovers
some of her darkest secrets. One of them beginning with Cullis. He is a writer but also

turned up from Sri Lanka in bangles and stilts (Ondaatje 142). It had been the only
time where she felt wanted by him. He had focused all of his attention on her, which
she liked, while it lasted. Throughout Anil s struggles, this was a breaking point. It
was the the part of her life that affected her the most surrounding the various
discoveries she has made. In the story her strong feelings of who and who not to trust
are shown later on in the novel.
Anil s life takes her to Colombo where her work has her partnered with Sarath
Diaysena. He has been asked by the government to help Anil identify skeletons. Her
interactions with Sarath create questions of trust in her mind. Anil becomes
suspicious of Sarath after a discussion with his landlord about Sarath s wife. Sarath
explained that his marriage had ended in tragedy with his wife s death. As Sarath
uncovers mysteries that are a result of violence, more mysteries cloud around his
personal life. From experience, part of his distrusting and odd behavior came from
the unexpected death of his beloved wife, who also held a small secret. At the time of
the erupting conflicts, she committed suicide.

Dame Mary Gilmore is an Australian socialist poet and journalist, her first volume
of poetry was published in 1910, as she was regarded as one of Australia s most

historical background of war, as well as revealing Gilmore s attitudes, values and

disconsolate, relatable, or sympathetic towards whoever it effected. These
emotions are shown in the second and first stanzas, When is says must the young

sympathy for the soldiers fighting at war, it forces reader to be positioned to
imagine what it was like in the soldier s shoes. The second example is There are

poem creates sadness. This is evident because the action of crying involves tears
which are linked to the emotion of sadness. There are 6 evident poetic devices,
alliteration, imagery, perspective, repetition, stanza, and rhyme. Alliteration,
repetition and rhyme are shown throughout the whole entire poem, whereas
perspective and imagery is only shown a couple of times during the whole poem.
Imagery and point of view is shown in the first lines of each stanza while Alliteration,
repetition, stanza and rhyme are apparent in each line of each stanza. Hence, Poetic

Gravestone of a Woman with Her Attendant The Gravestone of a Woman with her
attendant is a sculpture created by an unknown artist and is now on display at the
Getty Villa in Malibu, California. The sculpture is of a womanseated in a cushioned
armchair, reaching out to lightly touch the top of a box or chest held by her
attendant. We can tell from the sculpture that the women is of a higher class
because of how her hair is done, the significant amount of jewelry, and the decorated
throne that she lounges in. This sculpture is an extremely detailed Grecian
gravestone made from a thick slab of colorless marble around 100 B.C. The woman

With the sculpture straight ahead, the audience sees a profile view of the scene;
however, the artist created the sculpture with enough space and depth to be able to
view the front of the woman s face from a side angle. The artist created the seated
woman with much detail; her nose, chin, slightly opened mouth, pronounced brow
line and inset eyes show this. She reaches for the chest with her right arm in a very
delicate manner as her left arm lays on the throne for support. The woman s female
servant is standing in front, below her, holding an opened box or a chest. The box
the servant holds is not defined, but we can assume that is some sort of a chest
holding valuables to the seated woman, presumably something the woman would
be buried with. The attendant is significantly smaller than the seated woman, which
can suggest that the servant is of much less importance or is younger than the high
class woman. The servant wears a robe somewhat alike to the seated woman, but
with less detail and decoration. The robe the attendant wears seems like there is
less fabric draping her body below the midriff and there is also no fabric wrapped
around her forearm like the woman on the thrown. Another difference between the
two women is the missing shoes on the servant, which also symbolizes less
importance. We can see this from her exposed he poking out from underneath the
draping robe. The servant s hair is also messy and not held back like the woman
Sophocles Antigone
The Two Protagonists of Antigone
In the classic model of dramatic structure, two characters move the action of the play
from introduction to climax to resolution with their conflict. One of these characters
is the protagonist; the other is the antagonist. The protagonist is generally regarded as
the good guy, and the antagonist is the bad guy. In Sophocles play Antigone, the lines
between protagonist and antagonist are blurred. In the Greek tradition, the title
character is the protagonist, but in this play, the supposed antagonist Creon also
displays characteristics of the protagonist.
Webster s Dictionary defines protagonist as one who takes the leading part in a
drama; hence, one who takes lead in some great scene, ... Show more content on

However, the way his actions work and feed the conflict throughout also make Creon
fit our definition of a protagonist. After Antigones capture, the play centers on
Creon. He boasts of his decision to the town leaders (the Chorus in this play), and
he argues with Tiresias about his actions and leadership ability. Tiresias endless
enforcement of truth forces Creon to face his mistakes, even though his pride is
hurt: It s a dreadful thing to yield . . . but resist now? / Lay my pride bare to the
blows of ruin? / That s dreadful too. (page 661).
Not only does Creon possess too much pride, but he is also stubborn, not unlike
Antigone. However, Creon s pride and stubbornness are related. He does not want
to admit to himself or others that he could be wrong, so he makes the same
mistakes over again. He could have pardoned Antigone, or reversed his edict after
his point was made clear, but no, he does not. Perhaps he is afraid of admitting that
he is capable of making mistakes in light of his less than perfect predecessors
(Laius, Oedipus, Eteocles, and Polynices, none of whom make very good role
models for aspiring kings). Maybe he has been king long enough that he has
developed a large ego and does not recognize his own mortality. Either way, his pride
and stubbornness reflect in nearly every action that Creon makes in Antigone.
Creon undergoes a full realization in the play, which is

These effects of mind wandering has been shown to be inefficient towards learning
and this is due to the fact that while we are engaged in mind wandering our attention
is on our internal thoughts and feelings therefore mind wandering impairs the ability
to integrate any new information from the external environment (Smallwood et al.,
2007). Relating this principle to myself it was clearly evident to me that meditation
serves as an antidote for a wandering mind it is beneficial in gaining wisdom about
oneself, experiencing positive emotions and improving day to day learning
(Moneyham and Schooler, 2013).
For the amount of time that I was engaged in anchoring my mind to the current
moment I noticed that there was a constant battle between myself and my mind,
meaning there was strong urge to latch onto the thoughts and find meaning in them
rather than just allowing myself to observe these thoughts. According to Chodron
(2013) there are five reasons to meditate and one of the reasons is to cultivate
attention towards every moment in our lives, which is important as she state that we
have allot of resistance to just being there! (Chodrom, 2013, p. 4).
During meditation I always felt uncomfortable and I just could not maintain the
natural posture of the body, it really would hurt to have a straight spine without any
the back support. According to Trungpa (2007) if mind and body are
The Historical Background Of Yuri Gagarin
Intro. Yuri Gagarin is still a hero and national icon in the Russia today. His
achievement can be argued as having one of the greatest effects on Soviet culture.
The young man who on April 12, 1961 became the first person in space and to
circle the Earth in the Vostok rocket. When he returned to Earth, he was born
twice, there was his original, physical birth in 1934, and his second birth as a
public figure in 1961. This event is also a prime example of how technology has
played a crucial role in modern life. To understand the significance of the Gagarin s
accomplishment, it is important to look at historical background in the Soviet Space

Soviet rocket development can be credited to Korolev s. His contribution of the R
7 rocket is arguably the most important innovation of the entire Soviet Space
program. Gagarin would not have flown into space without Korolev; a genius,
unmatched by the engineers at NASA. After the successful launching of Sputnik,
the Soviets began to consider using the R 7 to launch the first live organism in
space; a dog named Layka. It required Korolev to modify the structure of the R 7 to
encompass a small cylinder. The successful first test of the combination of capsule
and rocket cemented opinions that Korolev s R 7 was the only method to get a
human into space. It also demonstrated what the Soviets eventually wanted which
was launch a man in space. And in 1960, Korolev submitted his proposal for a
human to fly in Space. When Sergei Korolev was promoted to Chief Designer of the
Soviet Space program, he became colleagues with Gagarin because Gagarin made a
good impression by asking pertinent questions. Korolev s relationship with Gagarin
was very close, initially taking him under his wing calling him my little eagle.
Interestingly, Korolev was unsure that Gagarin could
Persuasive Speech About Youth Suicide

children. I know too many people here in the Manitou Springs school district.
There were two youth who took their lives in one year. I mean it hits home across
the nation of course across the globe. You study suicide rates for a variety of other
causes across the globe, but it s everywhere. El Paso Countyhas one of the highest
rates of youthsuicide so yeah I mean I would feel like I was actually providing true
public and community service by just doing as much as I possibly could to support
families in order to prevent that and to just bring some awareness to that. Half of it is
just awareness and the ability to have the conversation around it
Andrew: I think that that s huge Nicole and I think that s something that should
really be talked about and needs to be talked about. I also think as we re looking
over not just messaging, but also fundraising networks, we ve certainly seen an
increase in youth homelessness in Manitou and neighboring Colorado Springs and I
think as you stated there s been an increase youth suicide and just coming from my
experience as a gay man I think there s some connections there. There would be a lot
of people in the LGBTQ community interested in helping people who are =
committed to those sort of issues with first being that LGBTQ youth make up about
forty percent of the homeless population and thus are more prone to teen suicide so I
mean looking for different demographic and groups whether it be looking at the
LGBTQ community or the Latino community or whatnot I think you know it is not
just good for outreach and messaging to those communities, but also potentially
fundraising bases as well.
Nicole: Absolutely. I m so glad you brought that up because Urban Peak is an
organization we have down here. It s an amazing organization that deals with youth
homelessness and I know the director and communicate with her regularly. In fact, I
just saw her at an event. Citizens Project is another one that I attend their annual

and outspoken of the LGBTQ community so that s a great point we have several

One particularly sensitive method for analysis of pure solvent (applicable to wells
containing DNAPL) involves combustion of the chlorinated hydrocarbon sample
with CuO, precipitation of AgCl and formation of CH3Cl for analysis on IRMS [10].
Isotopic ratios are expressed in the delta notation, Оґ, which represents the per mil
variation of the isotopic ratio standard. For carbon, the 13C/12C ratio is established
by the Pee Dee Belemnite international standard and 37Cl/35Cl ratio is compared to
the Standard Mean Ocean Chloride (SMOC) standard by the following equation:
Оґ13C or Оґ37Cl = (Rsample/Rstandard 1) * 1000. Comparison of the deltas for
both compounds as part of a multi isotopic approach will provide greater confidence
in the determination of the plume source by providing a more fine tuned view of
chlorinated solvent signatures compared to single isotope analysis, particularly under
consideration that Оґ37Cl values are typically within a much smaller range than that
of Оґ13C.

idea and he started a unique police group that was officially called SAVAX. The
CIA trained these people and they were not really big fans of the Iranian people.
This group had special skills that one police officer normally wouldn t have, all of
the members of SAVAX also had the talent of spying which was used for listening in
on the Iranian citizens.
The shah of Iran became really sick with lymphoma and President Carter allowed
him to gain access into the U.S. for medical treatment. This action caused a lot of
commotion in Iran and caused the Iranian Hostage Crisis. With the shah still sick,
it was hard to manage what was back in Iran. The speed of change in Iran was too
hard to get command. The shah was in trouble, reaping the harvest of years of brutal
and unpopular policies, including the use of secret police that controlled dissent with
arbitrary arrests and torture. It was obvious that the shah had lost all control of his
people of Iran, but the president had hoped for an alliance of opponents to be formed.

INTRODUCTION
During my undergraduate work back in Venezuela, I wanted to make news reports
because I admire the power and beauty of truth. Although I learned how to produce
news and consider myself a journalist, I was missing something. I wanted to work
with stories based on realities, that would stay on the screen for a longer period
than two to three minutes the standard news time per package. Moreover, I wanted
to combine the power of reality content and the elegance of cinema something that
is not relevant in the T.V. world due to the need for immediacy. Furthermore, I
wanted to express a personal voice through my work, which led me to start a
filmmaking career to learn how to produce documentaries. In the fall of 2013, I

Immigrant Stories is a 40 minute documentary that seeks to address the
misinterpretation of immigration in the United States. It is directed to two groups: non
immigrants who dream about being immigrants based on an American Dream or
what they watch in the media, and Americans who perceive immigration as a
negative issue due to misconceptions.
As mentioned previously, I am an international student and I consider myself a
migrant which, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO), can be understood as, any person who lives temporarily or
permanently in a country where he or she was not born, and has acquired some
significant social ties to this country (UNESCO Par.1), consequently, the producer of
Immigrant Stories is directly related to the subject.
Accordingly, Michael Moore, a well known American filmmaker, suggests in his
article Michael Moore s 13 Rules for Making Documentary Films, It s important to
make your films personal. ... People want to hear the voice of a person (Par. 24), a
story about the American dream from the perspective of immigrants is a theme
selected following a personal interest on immigration, which is the first topic
discussed.
The second topic of the documentary is The American dream. Before coming to the
United States, I knew the perspective of internationals regarding this subject.

What Are The Economic Impact Of Modern Ballet
During its development as an individual art, modern ballet has an impact on key
stakeholders and the wider society children, students, schools and colleges,
individuals, sponsors, spectators.
Over the years, modern dance has had different impacts on key stakeholders and the
wider society. Early contemporary dance identified itself in opposition to ballet as
students were often forbidden from taking modern ballet classes. However, over the
decades, modern dance and ballet began to influence each other.( DanceMotionUSA,
2010). During the earliest stage of modern ballet s development the wave of
enthusiasm for the performances and choreographies of Maud Allan and Ruth St.

According to a study made by NEA, the average annual income modern dance
choreographers earned from their artistic work in 1989 in New York was $6000,
while their personal expenses totaled $13,000 (Horwitz, 2014). Including money
earned in other occupations, the average income of a dancer reached only $22,000.
Few years later, the situation has not changed much. The difference is that dancers
are much more dedicated to work under economic conditions as the human stimulus
to create new modern ballet techniques and improve themselves is so stronger that
people will resist significant hardship to pursue it (Horwitz, 2014). On the contrary,
many inexperienced and young dancers enter the dance field with unrealistic career
expectations, undertaking on a life of personal instability, financial uncertainness
and physical risk. Moreover, young dancers often take student debts in order to
participate in contemporary dance art system. According to Brooklyn Commune
Report, the choice of people to pursue job careers with relatively lower incomes but
larger psychic incomes is becoming less common for the population today, as for
those who choose a career in ballet, the negative economic impacts of their lifestyle
and its quality is much more higher than it was 40 years ago (Horwitz,

Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant: Motivating in Good Times and Bad
There had been several rough quarters at the Engstrom Auto Mirror plant in
Richmond, Indiana, a privately owned business that manufactured mirrors for trucks
and automobiles and employed 209 people. For more than a year, plant manager Ron
Bent and his assistant, Joe Haley, had focused their Friday meetings on the troubling
numbers, but the tenor of their May 14, 2007, meeting was different. Both men
sensed that they now faced a crisis at the plant. Bent was talking animatedly to Haley:

Scanlon worked with the mill owner to enlist the plant workers in identifying ideas
for increasing productivity. Ultimately, the plant was saved. Although Scanlon was
oriented to helping small, distressed companies, variants of his gainsharing plan
have been adopted by a diversity of organizations. The heart of these plans is the
concept of participative management. Scanlon believed that individuals will work
hard to help achieve their organization s goals so long as they have an opportunity
to take responsibility for their actions and apply their skills. A key tactic is to
communicate financial and other business data through all levels of the organization.
While this is a symbolic motivator for many workers, the tactic also has a practical
basis: everyone is encouraged to suggest ways to improve the plant s productivity.

not only a sports job, but more a broad job which requires experience and one of the

How Did Ho Chi Minh Contribute To The Administration
Of...
Representatives of eight countries with Vietnam represented by two delegations,
one made out of supporters of Ho Chi Minh, the other of supporters of Bao Dai met
in Geneva to discover an answer. They closed with an understanding as indicated by
which Vietnam was to be partitioned at the seventeenth parallel until races, planned
for 1956, after which the Vietnamese would set up a bound together government. It
is difficult to assess Ho s role in the Geneva negotiations. He was represented by
Pham Van Dong, a faithful associate. The balance displayed by the Viet Minh in
tolerating an allotment of the nation and in tolerating control of less region than they
had vanquished amid the war takes after the example set up by the man who had
consented to the 1946 arrangements with France. Be that as it may, this adaptability,
which was likewise a reaction to weights applied by the Russians and Chinese, did not
accomplish everything for the Viet Minh. Hanoi missed out in light of the fact that
the races that were to ensure the nation s reunification were put off inconclusively by
the United States and by South Vietnam, which was made on an accepted premise as
of now. The control displayed by the Viet Minh in tolerating an allotment Ho Chi
Minh s administration got to be harsh and unbendingly totalitarian. Endeavored
agrarian changes in 1955 56 were led with insensible ruthlessness and suppression.

Restrictions on Free Speech in Malaysia
Protecting Free Speech, by using Restrictions?
It is undeniable that the citizens of Malaysia have been granted the freedom of
speech, assembly and association, as stated in the Act 10 of the Federal Constitution.
Quoted from the Federal Constitution, every citizen has the right to free expression
and speech. However, freedom of speech is an issue which has been discussed and
argued for a long time, not only in Malaysia but all around the world. It is discussed
that how free a speech can be. Does freedom of speech mean that we can simply talk
something bad about the ruler without any evidence? Liberty (2014) defines that the
freedom of speech includes the right of every citizen in communicating and
expressing in any medium, holding opinions, receiving information ideas and
participating in demonstration and protest without the interference of the country or
government.
Although by judging solely from the definition, political expression which covers the
matters of public interest seems acceptable, it is undeniable that under the Act 10 of
the Federal Constitution, clause 2 has stated that the parliament can impose law to
restrict the freedom of speech. Such restrictions are said to protect the security of
Malaysia, privileges of Parliament and the public order. Besides, Art 10 (4) also
stated that the law can restrict the questioning of any matter, status, privilege and
sovereignty. InterNations (2014) has also explained that there are also limitations of
civil freedoms

Beauty Pageants Controversy

beauty. There were protests to ban beauty pageants in the past because it showed that
the appearance of women determined their beauty, rather than their personality.
Beauty contests should be banned because it damages the contestants health. Child
beauty pageants causes them to develop eating disorders due to them having to wear
makeup and tight clothes. Since they are forced to wear makeup to impress the

Self Knowledge And The Influence Of Empathy In Seventh
Grade
It was the first day of sixth grade. I was walking with my friend Mikey at the time.
Because we had all of our classes together, we became close fast. We were walking
to our fifth period class, A.T, knowing we had the ominous Mr Livingston . We
were discussing in nervous whispers the rumors we had heard. Oh, I heard that he s
very intimidating Mikey stated. Yeah, I heard that too, but I heard by the end of
this quarter, we will like him I added on. For the most part, we were right. But I so
much more than like him. For the past three years, I went through Mr Livingston,
Mrs Benson, Mrs Barrington, Mrs Nealon and Mr Albano. The other teachers taught
us knowledge about marine biology, the civil war, logic, factorials, and much more.
But Mr Livingston was different. All of his units were leading up to this huge unit,
and one colossal question. Who am I and what do I want to become. From teaching
us about civil disobedience in sixth grade, to teaching us all about empathy in seventh
grade, to teaching us... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Self knowledge is knowing and understanding oneselves way of thinking and
motives. Examining your life, is gaining self knowledge, and if you do not do this,
your life is not worth living. By looking into your own life, you begin to
understand your actions, and why you behave like you do. This allows you to
understand how people perceive your actions, and how they affect other people.
Self knowledge also allows people to know their strengths and weakness, and play
to their strengths. If someone goes through this process, and knows that they aren t
the best with helping people figure out what they need, but they excel in design.
Instead of going into a job at technical support, they would become an architect.

Black Phosphorus Research Paper
Black Phosphorus was discovered in 1914. There was little known about it when it
was first discovered but that has changed in the past few decades. Researchers are
looking into using black phosphorus as a semiconductor, in electronics, optics, and
LEDs. Many factors are to be considered when thinking of using black phosphorusas
a semiconductor, the cost, if large scale synthesis is possible while to being to
complicated or expensive. Black Phosphorus has the potential to be a great
semiconductor because of its large tunable band gap. These are qualities that are

A Brief Biography of Paul Poiret Essay example
Part 1:
Paul Poiret was born on April 20th, 1879 in Paris, France. His contributions to
twentieth century fashion has earned him the title in many people s eyes as the
King of Fashion , because he established the principle of modern dress and created
the blueprint of the modern fashion industry. Poiret s designs and ideas led the
direction of modern design history. He was born into a working class family and his
natural charisma eventually gained him entry into some of the most exclusive
ateliers of the Belle Г‰poque. Jacques Doucet, one of the capital s most prominent
couturiers, hired him after seeing promising sketches he had sold to other
dressmakers. Furthermore, he was hired by the House of Worth and was put to work

Art deco included luxury items as well as mass produced products, but both wings
had the intention to create modern and anti traditional designs that illustrated wealth
and elegance.
Part 2 Comparison 1:
Figure 1 created by Paul Poiret, and figure 2 created by Coco Channel were both
designs based on art deco style. Both of these designers came about in the early
20th century as the role of woman in society was changing. In figure 1 Poiret
created The Fancy Dress costume in France for his The One Thousand and Second
Night party in 1911. This resplendent design included his signature Lampshade
tunic and harem pants as well as a jeweled buster using metal, silk, and cotton. Most
of this design was created with sea foam green silk gauze, which then was
interwoven with silver and blue thread, and then turquoise, pink, and peach beading
that was symmetrically placed. Both designers diverged from the confining and tight
fitting corsets and aimed to create comfortable yet elegant clothing that mirrored the
free and self sufficient attitudes rising in woman. Both of the designers designs
have dropped waste lines. However, Poiret s radical design uses opulent and
luxurious fabric and materials and is focused on the decorative aspect. His design is
created to be one of a kind and uses many vibrant colors, rich embellishments, and
embroideries. Poiret resisted the practicality, rationalization, and stylistic
simplification that Chanel adapted to create. In figure 2
Pure Econom Ic Loss And Consequential Economic Loss
There is a fundamental distinction between Pure Econom ic Loss and
Consequential Economic Loss, as Pure Eco nomic Loss occurs independent of
any physical damage to the person or property of the victim. What is common to
both types of claims is that in order to successfully claim or even have a leg to
stand on there must be proof of a duty of care having been broken. As long as you
can show the defendant has breached their duty of care and you have suffered
foreseeable damage then you can recover. The problem with Pure Economic Loss
is that the classes of people who can recover is very limited. The Courts have tried
to keep it this way in order to keep the number of claimants as low as possible. The
fear is that if claims for purely economic loss are allowed then it would encourage
more claims of this type. Chief Justice Cardazo from America stated Recovery of
economic loss in the absence of physical damage or per sonal injury would expose
defendants to liability in an in determinante time to an indeterminante class. This
general rule applies in Scotland, meaning that if there is no liability for causing
Pure Economic Loss, this is be cause of the Courts reluctance to open the
floodgates to an infinite number of claims. The rules for how the Courts respond to
these claims are set out in Common Law which has evolved over the years, where
patterns have formed and have now established one of the vital legal frame works
for Delict Law in Scotland. A crucial case

  • 2. Unromancing The Dream Analysis Sharrieff Turner Psychology 101 Professor Stone May 21, 2016 Reading 7: Unromancing the Dream Summary The reading begins with two researchers Aserinsky and Dement, researching into why humans need sleep. Then, it begins to talk about another two researchers, Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley. They both came up with a new theory about dreaming, which was in essence, was that dreams are nothing more than your attempt to interpret random electrical impulses produced automatically in your brain during REM sleep. (Hock 2013). Basically what they were saying is that while we sleep, a part of our brain produces electrical charges in the brain stem. While we sleep most other parts of the brain are inactive, but the brain stem isn t. Hobson and
  • 3. Non-Traditional Childbirth In this week s response we are given the choice to choose to respond on the topic about a type of non traditional childbirth (i.e. hospital) of our choice that we would want to know more about and What we learn before we re born from TED talk by Annie Murphy Paul . This week I am choosing to respond to a type of non traditional childbirth(i.e. hospital). The type of childbirth I chose to talk about is a water birth. As interesting as this topic may be and all of the possible childbirths there are this stood out for me because I believe that it is amazing that a child can be born in a little pool. First off, by definition a water birth is a birth in which the mother spends the final stages of labor in a birthing pool, with delivery
  • 4. Days Of Heaven Analysis Days of Heaven This week s movie was Days of Heaven by Terrence Malick. The movie, shows this one couple (Brooke Adams and Richard Gere) and a child (Linda Manz) finding ways of achieving ultimate success and walking away from the extremely labor intensive environment that they were used too. A solution they think of is by trying to swindle this rich guy (Sam Shepard) by pretending that the relationship that the couple had was a brother sister relationship. He doesn t their false pretenses and marries the female counterpart. In addition, the male counterpart heard that the rich gut was about to die in a year. However, after a year, he still lives and in turn causes the couple to turn anxious. Succeeding events after the nonexistent death led to further division among them and the gradually caring for the rich guy. Yet, with all of these events he dies because of the male counterpart killing him. Anyways, from this short summary of the movie, the watcher has a chance to view, look, and understand the actress and actors in certain shots and angles . Some of these shots range from the beautiful countryside or the raging inferno both internally and externally of the characters. Days of Heaven by Terrence Malick uses many various shots to help emphasize and prolong the memory of characters or nature into the watcher s eye. One shot that really caught my eyes was when everyone was eating in the gazebo. The shot that was used here was a long shot a shot that includes an area
  • 5. The Scary Interview Interview Exam results are not enough; Cambridge likes to see what it is getting. A personal statement is also required, which if compelling enough will result in an invitation to be interviewed. This is the most crucial and scary part of the application process and is designed to investigate the student s suitability. There are myths surrounding the interviews. Contrary to widely held views, the admissions tutors state they do not set out to trick candidates with weird questions, but discuss issues around the chosen subject and personal statement. Students need to display flexible minds that are receptive to teaching; they have to be passionate and processes mental stamina. Being nervous will not count against the student but they do need to voice and defend opinions with logic. Many successful candidates said they relished the opportunity to discuss their opinions with a world leading authority, finding it both challenging and invigorating. Choosing a college The university prospectus, has in the past, informed potential applicants that the college they choose is not that important because the teaching will be the same. Many students disagree. Teaching may well be similar but it is still vital that students choose a college they will feel comfortable in: after all for undergraduates this is going to be home for at least three years. Ranges of unique colleges, large and small, are available for consideration from the very old with medieval roots to cutting edge modern

A teacher who has to improve classroom management methods will affect the students school experience as well. Our intensive analysis of programs in which classroom management is addressed in multiple courses reveals far too great a degree of incoherence in what teacher candidates learn and what they are expected to do in PK 12 classroom settings (National Council on Teacher Quality, Training our Future Teachers). Proestrus is the first stage, and lasts approximately three days. During this stage of estrus, follicle growth begins due to the decrease in progesterone and increase in follicle stimulating hormone and estrogen. We can tell from the sculpture that the women is of a higher class because of how her hair is done, the significant amount of jewelry, and the decorated throne that she lounges in. This sculpture is an extremely detailed Grecian gravestone made from a thick slab of colorless marble around 100 B.C. The woman wears a robe that is very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the sculpture straight ahead, the audience sees a profile view of the scene; however, the artist created the sculpture with enough space and depth to be able to view the front of the woman s face from a side angle. The artist created the seated woman with much detail; her nose, chin, slightly opened mouth, pronounced brow line and inset eyes show this. She reaches for the chest with her right arm in a very delicate manner as her left arm lays on the throne for support. The woman s female servant is standing in front, below her, holding an opened box or a chest. The box the servant holds is not defined, but we can assume that is some sort of a chest holding valuables to the seated woman, presumably something the woman would be buried with. The attendant is significantly smaller than the seated woman, which can suggest that the servant is of much less importance or is younger than the high class woman. The servant wears a robe somewhat alike to the seated woman, but with less detail and decoration. The robe the attendant wears seems like there is less fabric draping her body below the midriff and there is also no fabric wrapped around her forearm like the woman on the thrown. Another difference between the two women is the missing shoes on the servant, which also symbolizes less importance. We can see this from her exposed he poking out from underneath the draping robe. The servant s hair is also messy and not held back like the woman
  • 34. Sophocles Antigone The Two Protagonists of Antigone In the classic model of dramatic structure, two characters move the action of the play from introduction to climax to resolution with their conflict. One of these characters is the protagonist; the other is the antagonist. The protagonist is generally regarded as the good guy, and the antagonist is the bad guy. In Sophocles play Antigone, the lines between protagonist and antagonist are blurred. In the Greek tradition, the title character is the protagonist, but in this play, the supposed antagonist Creon also displays characteristics of the protagonist. Webster s Dictionary defines protagonist as one who takes the leading part in a drama; hence, one who takes lead in some great scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the way his actions work and feed the conflict throughout also make Creon fit our definition of a protagonist. After Antigones capture, the play centers on Creon. He boasts of his decision to the town leaders (the Chorus in this play), and he argues with Tiresias about his actions and leadership ability. Tiresias endless enforcement of truth forces Creon to face his mistakes, even though his pride is hurt: It s a dreadful thing to yield . . . but resist now? / Lay my pride bare to the blows of ruin? / That s dreadful too. (page 661). Not only does Creon possess too much pride, but he is also stubborn, not unlike Antigone. However, Creon s pride and stubbornness are related. He does not want to admit to himself or others that he could be wrong, so he makes the same mistakes over again. He could have pardoned Antigone, or reversed his edict after his point was made clear, but no, he does not. Perhaps he is afraid of admitting that he is capable of making mistakes in light of his less than perfect predecessors (Laius, Oedipus, Eteocles, and Polynices, none of whom make very good role models for aspiring kings). Maybe he has been king long enough that he has developed a large ego and does not recognize his own mortality. Either way, his pride and stubbornness reflect in nearly every action that Creon makes in Antigone. Creon undergoes a full realization in the play, which is

Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Essays In the short story, Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, by Tim O Brien, the author shows that no matter what the circumstances were, the people that were exposed to the Vietnam War were affected greatly. Instead of getting married like they had planned, she wants to just live together for a while to see what it s like. Everything about her was changing. She was no longer bubbly, she rarely laughed, and she was going off on her own more and more. One night she never came home. She had spent all night with the green berets on ambush. When Mary returned, she was hardly recognizable. Mark was fed up, he made her wash her hair and clean up. Things seemed to be all right. But there was a great deal of tension between them. Finally, Mark started talking about sending her back home. Mary Anne was gone the next morning along with the 6 other green berets. When she returned, her appearance had completely changed. It was then, Rat said, that he picked out Mary Anne s face. Her eyes seemed to shine in the dark not blue, though, but a bright glowing jungle green. She did not pause at Fossie s bunker. She cradled her weapon and moved swiftly to the Special Forces hooch and followed the others inside. When Mark entered the green berets hooch, he first thought he saw the same old sweet Mary Anne. These effects of mind wandering has been shown to be inefficient towards learning and this is due to the fact that while we are engaged in mind wandering our attention is on our internal thoughts and feelings therefore mind wandering impairs the ability to integrate any new information from the external environment (Smallwood et al., 2007). Relating this principle to myself it was clearly evident to me that meditation serves as an antidote for a wandering mind it is beneficial in gaining wisdom about oneself, experiencing positive emotions and improving day to day learning (Moneyham and Schooler, 2013). For the amount of time that I was engaged in anchoring my mind to the current moment I noticed that there was a constant battle between myself and my mind, meaning there was strong urge to latch onto the thoughts and find meaning in them rather than just allowing myself to observe these thoughts. According to Chodron (2013) there are five reasons to meditate and one of the reasons is to cultivate attention towards every moment in our lives, which is important as she state that we have allot of resistance to just being there! After the successful launching of Sputnik, the Soviets began to consider using the R 7 to launch the first live organism in space; a dog named Layka. It required Korolev to modify the structure of the R 7 to encompass a small cylinder. The successful first test of the combination of capsule and rocket cemented opinions that Korolev s R 7 was the only method to get a human into space. You study suicide rates for a variety of other causes across the globe, but it s everywhere. El Paso Countyhas one of the highest rates of youthsuicide so yeah I mean I would feel like I was actually providing true public and community service by just doing as much as I possibly could to support families in order to prevent that and to just bring some awareness to that. Half of it is just awareness and the ability to have the conversation around it Andrew: I think that that s huge Nicole and I think that s something that should really be talked about and needs to be talked about. I also think as we re looking over not just messaging, but also fundraising networks, we ve certainly seen an increase in youth homelessness in Manitou and neighboring Colorado Springs and I think as you stated there s been an increase youth suicide and just coming from my experience as a gay man I think there s some connections there. For carbon, the 13C/12C ratio is established by the Pee Dee Belemnite international standard and 37Cl/35Cl ratio is compared to the Standard Mean Ocean Chloride (SMOC) standard by the following equation: Оґ13C or Оґ37Cl = (Rsample/Rstandard 1) * 1000. Art deco included luxury items as well as mass produced products, but both wings had the intention to create modern and anti traditional designs that illustrated wealth and elegance. Part 2 Comparison 1: Figure 1 created by Paul Poiret, and figure 2 created by Coco Channel were both designs based on art deco style. Both of these designers came about in the early 20th century as the role of woman in society was changing. In figure 1 Poiret created The Fancy Dress costume in France for his The One Thousand and Second Night party in 1911. This resplendent design included his signature Lampshade tunic and harem pants as well as a jeweled buster using metal, silk, and cotton. Most of this design was created with sea foam green silk gauze, which then was interwoven with silver and blue thread, and then turquoise, pink, and peach beading that was symmetrically placed. Both designers diverged from the confining and tight fitting corsets and aimed to create comfortable yet elegant clothing that mirrored the free and self sufficient attitudes rising in woman. Both of the designers designs have dropped waste lines. However, Poiret s radical design uses opulent and luxurious fabric and materials and is focused on the decorative aspect. • 53. Pure Econom Ic Loss And Consequential Economic Loss There is a fundamental distinction between Pure Econom ic Loss and Consequential Economic Loss, as Pure Eco nomic Loss occurs independent of any physical damage to the person or property of the victim. What is common to both types of claims is that in order to successfully claim or even have a leg to stand on there must be proof of a duty of care having been broken. As long as you can show the defendant has breached their duty of care and you have suffered foreseeable damage then you can recover. The problem with Pure Economic Loss is that the classes of people who can recover is very limited. The Courts have tried to keep it this way in order to keep the number of claimants as low as possible. The fear is that if claims for purely economic loss are allowed then it would encourage more claims of this type. Chief Justice Cardazo from America stated Recovery of economic loss in the absence of physical damage or per sonal injury would expose defendants to liability in an in determinante time to an indeterminante class. This general rule applies in Scotland, meaning that if there is no liability for causing Pure Economic Loss, this is be cause of the Courts reluctance to open the floodgates to an infinite number of claims. The rules for how the Courts respond to these claims are set out in Common Law which has evolved over the years, where patterns have formed and have now established one of the vital legal frame works for Delict Law in Scotland.
