Professional Practice And How Does It Differ Between...
Introduction What is professional practice and how does it differ between patient facing versus
laboratory based clinical scientists? Is there in fact a difference? Professional practice is one of the 5
domains of good scientific practice which define the standards and values all healthcare professionals
should strive towards. Furthermore professional practice can be further divided into professional
practice, probity, working with colleagues and training and developing others. As can be imagined all
clinical scientists, whether in a patient facing role or not, will need to embody each of these to be an
effective healthcare scientist. Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H I) is the branch of Clinical
Science (Blood sciences) involved in HLA typing and screening for solid organ and haematopoietic
stem cell transplants (Histocompatibility) and the genetics of major histocompatibility complex
associated disease (immunogenetics). Clinical scientists within this field have limited patient
interactions yet must still embody professional practice. Each of the following statements will
examine aspects of professional practice and how they impact on clinical scientists within H I.
Clinical scientists lead the way in innovation The central tenet of professional practice and the core of
the NHS constitution is to make the patient your first consideration. While this includes concepts such
as exercising duty of care and keeping scientific skills relevant and up to date, it also

Beliefs And Attitudes Toward The Native Americans
Though a lot of individuals saw the Native Americans as savages, I see them just as protectors and
defenders of their land. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were living
peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never seen before
invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when the invaders
came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then began to
brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you wouldn t
comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how many of
their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native Americans
became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all captured by a
different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course, Smith s,
Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and attitudes toward
the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the three that was
captured was Mr. John Smith.
While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a
surge of Native Americans. The Native Americans, that was the Powhatan s Tribe, killed John Smith s
men, but spared his life after Smith gave them a fascinating object which was a compass. After
capturing him,

Post-Industrial Society Video Analysis
While the labor of the average man throughout America has arguably stayed the same, the same
cannot be said for their role in that labor. The drudgeries of the farmyard become replaced with the
drudgeries of the assembly line, to be replaced by the drudgeries of the cubicle, and so on and so
forth. The video post industrial society does a great job briefly explaining this, citing the post industrial
society being no longer focused on the production of things, rather on the creation of ideas and
philosophies. While the video remains mostly factual and neutral, at the very end it s talking points
would sound very similar to an article proclaiming the post industrial world as a myth .This article
argues against those yearning for the days of industrialization, imagined as a world where ... Show

On a similar note, this self proclaimed post industrial age has brought one major change, the need for
specialized education. The ability for a man or women to support themselves and their family is now
unattainable in developed and industrialized countries with only muscle jerks and repetition, with
robotics and cheap labor making nearly anyone in those industries replaceable, and therefore, poorly
paid in comparison to labor. As the value of education became clear, children would no longer be
forced to work for the majority of the day in dangerous and dilapidated coal mines, but instead spend
twelve years being prepared for future careers in areas that would arguably, be much more beneficial.
The career opportunities of a young adult rose from the family farm or the factory in the middle of
town to organizations all around the world. As a result of this, the American dream of being able to be
whatever you wanted rose rose from the cynicism of the industrial

Jonathan Sewall vs John Adams
Jonathan Sewall and John Adams were close friends and agreed on many issues. British policies
towards the American colonies during the 1760s and 1770s, however, was not one of them. Sewall, a
staunch supporter of authority, defended British policies. John Adams, on the contrary, believed the
policies to be unjust and thus challenged British authority. Sewall believed that the colonial challenge
to British authority threatened the very way of life in the colonies while Adams thought that British
authority provided a bigger threat. Each man s view of the cause of the revolution also differed.
Sewall defended British Authority by stating that, Man is a social Animal and that without authority
and rules there can be no society. He also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Others had strong connections to Parliament and the King and believed that Britain had the right to tax
the American colonies and thus they supported the Crown faithfully throughout the war.
IV
When people write persuasive essays and articles they often use images and wording to help express
what they wish to get across to the reader. Jonathan Sewall and John Adams were very skilled in doing
this and could thus write extremely convincing arguments. Both used vibrant details when describing
their ideas so that they would be presented in a clear and favorable light.
Sewall and Adams were able to vividly describe images, in order to create a picture in the minds of the
readers. Sewall used dramatic words to describe his feelings such as, It is in vain to think any longer
of drawing them to such a pitch is the Frenzy now raised, that the Colonists will never yield
Obedience to the Laws of the parent State, till, by Experience, they are taught to fear her power.
Adams also used his diction to his advantage when defending his position. But it is honestly
confessed, rather than become subject to the absolute authority of parliament, in all cases of taxation
and internal polity, they will be driven to throw off that of regulating trade. By using words like these,
both Sewall and Adams, were able to express their ideas more effectively to their intended audience.

Biological Determinism Summary
In his introduction, Gould enlightens us on the views of Socrates. All people should be educated and
belong to one of three classes within society; rulers, auxiliaries and craftsmen. Socrates believes
firmly that if this organization is upheld then society will be stable. It was said by Glaucon, that
Socrates prophecies may be disseminated through the generations. This was in fact the case due to his
claims being advanced by the science of the times (Gould, 1996). This book according to this
introduction looks to discuss this science of biological determinism. Biological determinism is an idea
that sees all human behavior as innate. It postulates that we function as a matter of our genetics, brain
size and biology and not society or culture.

Mr Hale s Sisterhood
Feminism is the want for equality amongst all of the peoples. It works to defeat problems that plague
this planet, including misogyny. The fight for women s rights is one that has been going on for years
on end. Set in the early 1900 s, this short story, with the characters of Mr. Hale, Mr. Peters, Mr.
Wright, and the country attorney, clearly demonstrates misogynistic feelings though the characters
actions and words. Mr. Hale and his son found Mr. Wright strangled in his own home, so the men of
the story spent their time trying to prove Mrs. Wright was the culprit. This leads to pushing their wives
to the side. In the end, the clever women figure out the mystery, and keep it from their misogynistic
counterparts. Susan Glaspell s short story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wright s demise doesn t compare to the demise of women s rights. Both the topics of sisterhood and
abuse are prominent in the short story, but fall in suit with the main topic of feminism. The short story
doesn t just show characters with feminist ideas; it also shows why the world needs more feminists.
The irony and the dialogue of the men validate Glaspell s feminist ideals, and how necessary they are
for society to grow. Part of feminism is to eliminate internal and external misogyny. However, people
can be quick to reveal their sexism through what they say. Mr. Hale showed it when saying (Glaspell
15). This comment is made because as the men are inspecting the scene of the crime, the women are
peering around the Wright s kitchen. The men view this as trivial to the investigation, though they
never had faith in the women to help them anyways. Its stated with a good natured air of superiority
because Mr. Hale s misogyny is so internalized that he thinks it s a fair thing to say. Nonetheless, the
author includes it to provoke the reader to look at the situation from both Mrs. Hale s and Mrs. Peters
points of view. It s meant to make the reader as frustrated and uncomfortable as the women are, for it s
an unfair judgment to make. By assuming that women only care about nominal aspects, it shows a
downright disrespect for women, and proves that these men think nothing of the women s intellect. Yet
in everyday life, this kind of thing still happens. Our society is still

What Is My Commitment Essay
My Commitment
The best day of my life was the day that I became a dad. Becoming a dad taught me so much. Most
importantly it taught me how to be committed to someone and an idea that you don t even know. I
remember when my girlfriend told me that she was pregnant. Although we had been seeing each other
for a while and not practicing safe sex, the idea of her carrying my child shocked me. She called me
up on a Thursday and asked me to come over her place because she wanted to show me something. I
had no idea what this something was. My girlfriend Natalie was always up to something and my best
guess was that she was going to show me these new pair of shoes that she got on sale. When I arrived
at her apartment, she had a different look on her face. For some reason I thought that the apartment

speaking and in a shaky voice I said, How did this happen? Did you do this on purpose? She looked at
me and I could tell that she was disappointed in me but I also knew that she was mad. She stood there
shaking her head. Then she started walking back and forth. I knew then that not only was she mad but
she was angry. She put her head down to stare at the ground for a moment and when she lifted her
head up she pierced her eyes at mine and she said, How the hell do you think this happened? We had
sex and you didn t use a condom and I didn t make you. Are you that stupid that you don t know how
babies are made? And no stupid, I didn t do this on purpose! She continued to curse at me for the next
fifteen minutes and I just sat there and let her. I didn t say anything, mostly because I didn t want to

Iroquois Creation Myths
Throughout the world myths are used to teach morals and spread information in a way that is
entertaining and delightful to children and adults alike. One popular type of story is the creation myth.
In the story of The World on a Turtle s Back the Iroquois people live in harmony and balance with
nature, whereas the Cherokee in The story of Corn and Medicine work against nature.
These two myths have many similarities but the most important one is the heavy reliance on the small
creatures in their society. Both in the Iroquois and the Cherokee myths there is a little creature that
helps out tremendously by diving to the bottom of the ocean. In the Iroquois myth it is the muskrat
who, dived and disappeared...After a long time, his little body floated to the surface of the ocean, a
tiny piece of earth clutched in his paw (Iroquois myth). In the Cherokee myth a Water beetle dove
below the water and eventually came back with some mud from below (Cherokee myth). Additionally,
in the Iroquois story there are two sons/brothers and they have profound impact on the world around
them, These two brothers, as they grew up, represented the two ways of the world which are in all
people... the right and left (iroquois myth). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book The Screwtape Letters By Quot. Lewis
C.S. Lewis once wrote There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the
devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and
unhealthy interest in them. Throughout history mankind has struggled, relentlessly, to put this concept
into perspective. Lewis, a well respected Christian author, thought it appropriate to develop a work
that would help individuals grasp the notion of devils. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a
powerful satire that develops situational and dramatic irony by allowing the reader to experience
various thought patterns of the devil.
Clive Staples Lewis has become known as one of contemporary society s most distinguished Christian
authors. Throughout his career, Lewis emphasized a continuing Christian experience in almost all of
his major writing, despite an early intolerance for the Church because of its institutionalized nature.
Ironically, the idea for this novel came about at Holy Trinity Church near Headington Quarry.
Actually, to be more politically correct, the letters were conceived shortly after listening to a radio
broadcast by Adolph Hitler the night before. At this time Lewis remarked, Statements which I know to
be untrue all but convince me, at any rate for the moment, if only the man says them unflinchingly.
These events, along with written narratives, were printed in several corresponding letters to his
brother, Warnie Lewis. The narratives would

What Is The Challenge Of The Antimalarials Drug Development
The challenge of the antimalarials drug development is to deliver a drug that should: (i) address drug
resistance issues, (ii) have a rapid onset of action, (iii) be safe, especially in children and pregnant
women, and (iv) cure malaria in a single dose (v) identify novel targets. Artemisinin based
combination therapies (ACTs) currently gold standard in treating uncomplicated malaria, have an
inherent issue of emerging resistance. To tackle this problem, sophisticated cellular and phenotypic
screening methods have identified drug candidates active against different stages of the parasites life
cycle in recent years. (Table 1.0) Following are brief descriptions of such innovative strategies
currently under preclinical development:

The first generation ozonide OZ277, known as arterolane, has been found to inhibit the growth of
chloroquine resistant (K1) and chloroquine sensitive (NF54) parasite strains with an IC50 = 1.6
1.8nM. In 2012, the combination of arterolane maleate and piperaquine phosphate was released as a 3
day treatment in India. The second generation peroxide OZ439 (EC50 = 3.4 4.0nM) featuring an 80
aryl rather than an 80 alkyl group causing higher stability of the O O bond towards Fe(II) increasing
by 50 fold, presumably because of steric reasons, is now in Phase IIa studies. [6, 7]
Tetraoxanes (also stabilizes O O bond), as was employed in the drug development candidate RKA
182, has displayed IC50 values of 4.9 nM against the P. falciparum 3D 7 strain and of 1.9 nM against
the K1 strain (chloroquine sensitive and resistant, respectively). It reduced P. berghei parasitemia in
mice to undetectable levels 24 hours after treatment. This compound is currently in preclinical trials
and although it has greater stability than OZ277, its antimalarial activity is inferior to OZ439. [8, 9]
Phenotypic whole cell screening method has revealed a 2 aminopyridine class of small molecules as a
good starting point to develop new a derivative, MMV390048, which lacked cross resistance with
current drugs used to treat malaria, and has a potential ability to block all life cycle stages of the
malaria parasite. Both genomic and chemoproteomic studies have

Eyewitness Testimony On The Criminal Justice System
Psychological research shows that eyewitness testimony is not always accurate; therefore it should not
be used in the criminal justice system. Discuss.
Word Count: 2,589
There has been considerable interest and study in the accuracy or inaccuracy of the use of eyewitness
testimonies in the current criminal justice system. Results collated by several studies add to the bulk of
literature suggesting that the current usage of eyewitness testimony by the legal system is far from
ideal. Currently, high emphasis is being placed on reviewing and reconsidering eyewitness accounts
(Leinfelt, 2004). In particular, recent DNA exoneration cases have substantiated the warnings of
eyewitness identification researchers by showing that mistaken eyewitness identification was the
largest single factor contributing to the conviction of innocent people (Wells Olson, 2003). In this
essay, the use of eyewitness testimony in the criminal justice system will be explored, with a particular
focus on the impreciseness of this practice.
Although Although theoretically conferencing may be seen as a viable alternative for adolescents to
court proceedings, and indeed some evidence suggests it reduces recidivism, it will ultimately be
concluded that the success of restorative justice programs depends on more than just its ability to
reduce recidivism, and thus it will not always provide a useful alternative to more traditional criminal
justice approaches.

improve the lives of African Americans. As a Civil Rights activist, sociologist, educator, historian,

American Conservatism Essay
American Conservatism
Beginning with Nixon and continuing with Reagan after the radical changes of American culture in
the sixties and seventies, Americans would begin to shift towards more conservative ideas unsure of
the rapid radical change. In the 1994 mid term elections, the American people would elect a congress
of mostly conservatives for the first time in nearly 50 years. At the core of this success would be the
Contract with America. A set of promises and goals devised by conservative congressional
representative Newt Gingrich. In 2000 the Republicans (modern conservative party) would retain the
Congress and capture the White House. Conservatism has been a leading political ideology since the

Historian Russell Kirk believes there are six basic tenets of all conservatism. To begin conservatives
believe in a transcendent order or body of natural law, which rules society as well as conscience.
Political problems at their roots are religious and or moral problems (9). The ideal that religion and
morality can have influence over political and social problems is widely seen in the United States. The
Republicans are often the choice of people with conservative Christian ideology.
Another important tenet of conservatism is a respect for the proliferating variety of human existence,
as opposed to the uniformity aims of most radical systems. Conviction that civilized society requires
orders and classes (Kirk 9). This is reflected in American conservatism belief that economic leveling
in inherently wrong. In the belief that economic leveling is wrong, conservatives also believe strongly
in protecting the rights of private property owners.
In addition, conservatives have a recognition that changes may not be salutary reform. Belief that
custom and convention are checks on radical change that could be harmful to society (Kirk 8). These
tenets are seen in American conservatism. In the fact that American conservative parties have always
been opposed to radical reform, such was the case when Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed and enacted
sweeping government intervention in his New Deal legislation.
In order to better understand conservatism one must consider

from the main story. (Wikipedia) The deeper lying theme that Carroll wanted to incorporate into his
story of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, in my opinion, was not his
psychological or sexual desire for Alice Liddell. What he did mean to express by writing these stories
was his innermost desire to escape from reality in which a relationship between he and Liddell was not
allowed to a fantasy land where everything is backwards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carroll thus displays himself as two different beings through this theme: a serious mathematician
existentialist writer, and the uncanny photographer who enjoys taking nude pictures of little girls,
which are undoubtedly one exactly same person in the world of two universes; since the two realities
can have differences and yet both very real, Carroll s strange personality is not actually strange at all.
Borges The Circular Ruins did not contain the same meaning as Carroll s existentialist ideas; Borges
idea of dreams was strictly one way, in which when one person wakes up, the person who is being
dreamed will vanish. The Circular Ruins questioned about our existence as real or just a fragment of
someone else s imagination, which is supposedly as real as the actual reality of whoever is imagining
us. Carroll s notion of dreams, then, questions a more complex essence of existence: of two possibly
imagined universes imagining each other. Carroll expresses himself and his queer personality (or is it
queer?) through a seemingly harmless book of nonsensical fantasies, and also questions his readers,
and possibly himself, the meaning of life and the universe. What I always thought of as the fun story
with insane poems, in addition to the wonderfully brilliant image of Wonderland portrayed by Disney,
turns out to be quite an amazing text for future existentialists and

Jealousy In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Some argue that Mary Shelley did nothing shy from pouring her soul and heart into the novel
Frankenstein. Mary states that the novel was built off the happier times in her life, yet signs of
negative feelings, anger and jealousy can be found throughout the novel. In the 18th century novel
Frankenstein you can see many incidents where Mary Shelley s life was reflected into the writing. The
novel itself was set in multiple locations such as Geneva and England. These settings have a
connection to Mary Shelley s life. The novel begins with Geneva as the birth place of the protagonist.

The Role Of Dna Analyst On The Rights Of The Defendant
The goals of science are to make sure that the goods and services they provide are of value to the
community, enhance knowledge, discredit false information or beliefs, and most importantly to keep a
record through documentation so that others can benefit from the knowledge obtained as well (1).
The role of the DNA analyst is also, in part, to protect the rights of the defendant. The DNA analyst
contributes to the trial process in that their job is to analyze evidence, according to set guidelines and
procedures can sway jurors or a judge. The results from the analyst s analysis can be entered into the
court in compliance with the defendant s right to view the evidence, a process called discovery. When
they testify, they are in compliance with the defendant s right to confront their accusers. The right to a
fair trial conducted in a competent manner, right to be present at trial, right to an impartial jury, and
right to be heard in one s own defense is a part of the defendant s right to due process.
Discovery is as defined in Butler 2012 is the legal process whereby information and materials relating
to the prosecution of a defendant in an upcoming trial are shared between the prosecution team, for
instance, law enforcement, crime laboratory, prosecuting attorney, and the defense counsel (1). The
guidelines of discovery are outlined by the laws of the federal and state governments. The prosecution

The Critical Issues Of Waste Management For A Large Luxury...
Abstract
This case study discusses the critical issues in waste management for a large, luxury brand spa. It
explains the need for analysis of a team effort to successfully implement strategies for reducing the
carbon footprint. The problem appears to be a lack of communication and resources amongst the
management and staff. The importance of waste management can relate directly to revenue in several
ways including how supplies are utilized, reusing or selling unused equipment, and decreasing waste
to reduce disposal costs. Solutions may include a learning plan for employees and implementation
strategies for management.
Key Words: carbon footprint, waste management, hotels, restaurants, spas, eco labels, industrial waste,
sustainability
Introduction
The generation of waste may be considered one of the largest effects the hospitality and tourism
industry has on the environment. This is in part due to the fact that many of the businesses, which
make up this industry, use massive quantities of consumer goods. The importance of sustainability in
the hospitality and tourism industry as it relates to development and operations is critical as it is one
currently of the most important global issues. Historically, the hospitality and tourism sector has had a
dramatic impact on the environment through energy and water consumption, use of consumable and
durable goods, and solid and hazardous waste creation. False information stating that green operation

The Importance Of Gender Equality In Education
All around the world, generations of children have grown up with a history of male leadership. Gender
equality has always been and continues to be a struggle, but with more awareness being shed on this
problem, it has been improving on a local and global scale. However, governments still lack the
gender diversity in their leadership positions that is needed by today s standards and expectations.
With more activism on a local and global level, future generations will grow up becoming leaders
without limitations due to their gender.
I have been able to grow up in a fortunate environment with a strong sense of equal gender
opportunity, but there was always the absence of equal gender icons to look up to when I was growing
up. Most textbooks and lessons were filled with the accomplishments of male scientists, explorers,
artists, and most of all, leaders. It is essential that we educate children at a young age the importance
for the push towards gender equality in leadership positions. After all, it is difficult for little girls to
believe teachers when say that they can grow up to be anything they want to be when there are male
clad posters of the United States presidents hanging up on the wall behind them. We cannot change the
faces of the past to match our egalitarian expectations, but we can add an equal mix of genders to the
curriculums and environments that all children grow up with to encourage them to change the future.

A. 2 Rhetorical Questions
1. Would you like it if someone came to your house and stole your valuable belongings?
i. I know I wouldn t, and I m sure none of you would either.
2. So why should any country s artifact a valuable belonging of theirs, be put up for display in another

Profit
1. At least Germany was honest in their reasoning with keeping Nefertiti s bust. Countries like
Germany and Great Britain have no right in continuing making profit off of other countries stolen
treasure. They should return its stolen artifacts, and instead, thank the countries for being able to have
made money off of what was not rightfully theirs to begin with. Basically, these countries not only
stole artifacts, but large amounts of money that should have been made by the artifacts countries
themselves.
III. Conclusion
A. Review/Clincher.
1. Cultural treasures should be displayed in the context in which they originated; only then can they be
truly understood. In the case of the Elgin marbles this is an architectural context which only proximity
to the Parthenon itself can provide.
2. If countries were truly interested in studying another s artifacts, they could then borrow the artifacts
on a long term loan an alternative solution.
3. Lastly, if you were also interested in archaeology, you wouldn t want to have to visit a number of
museums all across the world just to see objects from one civilization, would you?
i. Wouldn t it be nice if all Egyptian artifacts were housed in Egypt, all Greek artifacts housed in
Greece, and all other artifacts housed in their

Case Study Of Bhopal Gas Tragedy
HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL PROJECT December 2nd of 1984 marked the eve of one of the world s
most extensive and deadliest industrial disasters, known now, thirty years later, as The Bhopal Gas
Tragedy or The Bhopal Disaster , among others. Essentially: between twenty seven and forty tons of
methyl isocyanate gas and other assorted chemicals leaked from a tank at a plant owned by Union
Carbide India Limited (UCIL), the Indian subsidiary of the American company Union Carbide
Corporation (UCC), itself a subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company (Eckerman). This catastrophic
failure followed the introduction of water into an MIC storage tank, which caused an explosive chain

The plant s placement (near a densely populated area) was noted as hazardous years before the
tragedy, but UCC insisted on the location. The planning board s motivation for their insistence was
primarily that it was cheaper to build using a pre existing plant in the non ideal location as a basis
rather than building an entirely new plant in the more thinly populated area the Bhopal government
had designated for hazardous industry (Eckerman). Had the plant been built in a more sparsely
populated area, casualties and damage from the gas leak might have been drastically reduced. The
tragedy might have been completely averted had UCC opted to use the more expensive production
process (obviating the need for MIC) instead of the cheaper, more dangerous process (as discussed
above). More economies were taken with the safety and security systems (Eckerman), which, properly
installed and maintained, might have kept the tragedy from happening or lessened its effects; although
the company maintained at first that the Bhopal plant was equipped as well as were its plants in other
countries, UCC later admitted that the safety equipment in the plant was subpar

The Interpretation Of A Human
Edmund Carnevale

English Survey of British Literature

The Interpretation of a Human
How do a creature s actions portray them as human or monstrous? In what way do those who are not
human act or look and if not human, then what are they? In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, it is
observed that humans are characterized by showing compassion towards others and having character
flaws, but Victor s creature s grotesque physical appearance causes society to abandon him. Humans
will always have flaws and make mistakes, and this makes them human, but also shows one of the
weaknesses that humans have. When Victor has destroyed the second creature in spite of his first
creation, the malevolent creature shows up and foreshadows that something bad will happen on Victor
s wedding night. This leads Victor to narrate, The prospect did not move me to fear; yet when I
thought of my beloved Elizabeth, of her tears and endless sorrow, when she should find her lover so
barbarously snatched from her (Shelly 156). Victor thinks about himself and is blind to the notion that
his wife might possibly die. This proves that Victor s display of self centeredness is a trait that makes
him human. After Victor had discovered that his creation had been the real murderer of his relative,
William, he is shocked to find out that his cousin Justine Moritz had been accused and he says, My
tale was not one to announce publicly; its astounding horror would be looked upon as madness

The Aeneid A Kind Of Propaganda, Cicero s Second Philippic
Relying on hostile evidence to recreate Marcus Antonius life from his youth until the Battle of Actium
entrains several issues. This essay will discuss Virgil s Latin epic The Aeneid , a kind of propaganda,
Cicero s Second Philippic a piece written with personal and political intentions in mind, and Plutarch s
Rome in Crisis regarding Antony. One must treat these sources with caution, not least because of the
inherent bias present in their writing. It is necessary to take into account the context, type of source
and how the author has shaped material for their own personal or political gain. Limitations.
Virgil shapes material for his own literary and historical purposes, therefore bias is present. The
Aeneid is in part acknowledges Augustus as being key to the Golden Age after Caesar s assassination
(2).The 19 year old grand nephew/adopted son was Caesar s heir and eventually he defeated Cleo and
Antony at Actium in 31 bc (3). In this Euphoria Virgil took to writing patriotic poems such as The
Aeneid (4). After a century of civil war, Augustus victory promises a return of order, prosperity and
peace to Rome.
Augustus ignored Virgil s instruction to burn The Aeneid after his death in 19 BC. This indicates that
Virgil wrote in favour of his patron, ruler of Rome and is hostile towards Antony due to this (5).
Therefore, Augustus is a bringer of peace , consequently Mark Antony is associated with the violence
of civil war.

The Treatment Of Indigenous Australians
Treatment of Indigenous Australians
Indigenous Australians are the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals of Australia,
plummeted from gatherings that existed in Australia and encompassing islands preceding European
colonization. There is incredible assorted qualities among various Indigenous people group and social
orders in Australia, each with its own particular blend of societies, traditions and dialects. In present

European settlement, more than 250 dialects were talked; it is as of now evaluated that 120 to 145 of
these stay being used, and everything except 13 are thought to be endangered. Aboriginal individuals
today generally communicate in English, with Aboriginal expressions and words being added to make
Australian Aboriginal English. Native individuals basically lived as seeker gatherers, chasing and
scavenging for sustenance from the area. Albeit Aboriginal society was by and large versatile, or semi
itinerant, moving as per the changing sustenance accessibility found crosswise over various regions as
seasons changed, the method of life and material societies fluctuated incredibly from locale to district,
and there were lasting settlements and agriculture in a few ranges.
English colonization of Australia started with the entry of the First Fleet in Botany Bay in 1788. One
prompt outcome of British settlement was a progression of European pandemic

Examples Of What Your Nails Can Say About Your Health Essay
What Your Nails Can Say About Your Health
What Your Nails Can Say About Your Health
Nails are not just an aesthetic feature of your body, they can tell a lot about your physical health!
When the nails start to grow in a different shape or even change their colour, it usually is a sign that
something might be wrong with your health. American Academy of Dermatology agrees to this,
according to their study Nails often reflect our general state of health. Changes in the nail, such as
discoloration or thickening, can signal health problems including liver and kidney diseases, heart and
lung conditions, anemia, and diabetes. In many cases, the changes to your nails can point to some
undiagnosed disease(s).

away or grow out on their own. You just need to be cautious about them and try not to put excess
pressure on the nails! In case the white spots don t go away eventually, you might consider getting
medical help because it can be a fungal nail infection (known as Onychomycosis).
Pitted Nails
Pitted nails i.e. nails with multiple pits or dents are common in people with skin diseases like psoriasis
and eczema.
Solution for Pitted Nails If you are yet to be diagnosed with any such skin condition, then you should
consider visiting a doctor.
Blue Nails
Lack of oxygen in the blood makes the nails turn blue. Lungs and heart related diseases like Asthma,
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Congestive heart failure, hole in the heart, etc, also
play their part in turning the nails blue as an indication. On the other hand, people who reside in colder
regions may get blue nails often, but it s mainly due to the climate and not due to any serious health

The Crystal Structure of Sphingosine
In the PDBID 3V2Y, the crystal structure of the sphingosine 1 phosphate receptor subtype 1 is fused
to T4 lysozyme. Fusion of the third intracellular loop to the T4 lysozyme rendered soluble crystal
junctions (Rosen H et al, 2013) for the rapidly disintegrating microcrystals (Hanson MA et al, 2012).
Structure elements of S1PR1
The structural observations gained from antagonist preserved structures of Rhodopsin like GPCRs
show that the typical orientation of the seven transmembrane domains have significant overlap. The
minute overlap is produced depending on the helix bundle, tilt and the specific interactions
(hydrophobic and electrostatic). This specific overlap is important for co ordinated signaling by the
different GPCRs (Rosen H et al, 2013).
GPCRs possess an extracellular domain consisting of the N terminus and three extracellular loops.
However, a number of prominent features are associated with the Ligand Binding Pocket in the S1P1
receptor. The extracellular region of S1PR1 is significantly ordered. This is due to the N terminus
comprising a well ordered α helix that projects the top of the receptor. This contributes to binding
interactions and forms a helix cap, which occludes access to the amphipathic binding pocket (Hanson
MA et al, 2012). The three loops, namely, ECL1 amidst helices II and III, ECL2 formed between
helices IV and V and ECL3 in helices VI and VII, also make up the extracellular region. Both ECL1
and ECL2 are tightly packed against the

Recently, the Government announced its intention to open up the retail sector to foreign investment. It
is still, however, debating whether to allow 26 per cent or 49 per cent FDI in the sector.
Benefits of FDI in Retail Sector:
Higher competition would lead to higher quality in products and services.
Better lifestyle as better products would be introduced.
Exports would increase due to greater sourcing of major players.
Investment in whole supply chain would increase.
Technology would be upgraded in terms of logistics, production, and distribution channels.
The markets of the sector would flourish and develop.
Employment would increase and skills manpower will develop.
A strong retailing sector would promote tourism.
Economies of scale would help lower consumer prices and increase the purchasing power of the
consumer.
In the long term it will be beneficial in the up gradation of agriculture and small scale medium scale
industries.
Supportive policy
The government has been opening up various sectors and privatize some sectors (telecom, aviation,
insurance and energy). This shows its positive attitude to FDI inflows, Retailing has already been
looked at as a prospective area for FDI. The Government is also promoting investment in supply

Candide Theme Essay
Themes of Philosophy and Religion in Voltaire s Candide
Philosophy and religion are two themes consistently satirized throughout Voltaire s Candide. Voltaire
tells the story of a naïve young man, Candide, hopelessly in love with the selfish and vain Cunégonde.
Candide s quest to reconnect with Cunégonde is accompanied by various misfortunes that counter his
personal optimistic belief that everything is for the best . Candide s encounters force him to reconsider
his optimistic views in order to gain a better understanding of the world surrounding him. Voltaire not

Religious men and leaders place emphasis on worldly ideas rather than genuine faith. In chapter three,
Candide comes across a protestant orator giving a speech on charity. When he asks the orator for
bread, he asks Candide if he believes the Pope is the antichrist. Candide tells the man he is unsure and
that his own answer does not belittle the fact he is hungry. The orator, despite having just finished
speaking on charity, turns Candide away for his beliefs. In this scene, Voltaire is ridiculing the extreme
Protestant sects of his time that were consumed by their hatred of Catholicism and Rome. Religion is
further satirized by the auto da fé, or act of faith, the learned men of Lisbon perform. The men blame
the sins of Candide and Pangloss for the devastating earthquake and punish them via hanging and
flogging. During the punishments, a sermon and religious concert are given. The beautiful religious
music accompanying the horrifying punishments emphasize the hypocrisy of the church s appearance
of holiness and the terrible events it oversees. Shortly after the punishment is carried out, another
earthquake occurs dislodging the rationalization of religion and exemplifying that the sins of man, in
this case Candide and Pangloss, are not the cause of disastrous

literature, marital tactics and theology. According to the Venetian envoy Bartolomeo Contarini,
Suleiman was friendly, good humored, enjoyed reading, knowledgeable and made good judgments.
Suleiman s early leadership started in his late teens. During his father s rule, he became governor of

The virgins all lived in the palace and the living spaces they lived in soon became the harem. The
harem is where only the most beautiful women lived. Their duty was to bear the sultan sons. His wife
was named Roxellana. She was a daughter of an impoverished Christian priest from Ukraine. She was
a part of the harem gaining her way to the top by being the favorite of the sultan. Suleiman fell in love
with her and she gave him six sons and two daughters. Suleiman the Magnificent is an absolute ruler
which means that he took all power in his empire. During his rule, Suleiman expanded his empire into
Europe. He extended the empire in Greece, Bulgaria, Egypt, Hungry, Macedonia, Romania, Jordan,
Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, some of Arabia, and a considerable amount of the Northern Africa s
coastline. He was very proud. In the presence of the Sultan, you could not sit or wear anything that the
sultan was wearing. Suleiman has made many important cultural accomplishments in his lifetime. He
created Constantinople into a showplace. This was a very important place to mingle and honor their

Retinoid Inhibits Nrf2 Signaling Pathway through Retinoic...
Retinoids, natural and synthetic signaling molecules that are structurally related to vitamin A.
Compounds such as retinol, retinal, retinoic acid, retinyl esters and other derivatives are considered
under the group of retinoids. Retinoids are significantly considered to be the most prominent
regulators of several essential biological functions. For instance, active derivative of retinol
(metabolite of Vitamin A) such as retinoic acid (RA) plays a major role in vision, cell differentiation,
tissue homeostasis, apoptosis, organogenesis, regulation of immune system and embryonic pattern
formation(1). In addition RA is also considered to be a potent chemopreventive and tumor suppressive
agent because of its apoptotic and anti oxidant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These isoforms are formed because of differential usage of promoters and alternative splicing (8). As
most, nuclear receptors including retinoid receptors possess similarities in their structural
organization. Based on homology with other nuclear receptors, RAR and RXR receptors consists six
conserved regions known as A F. The N terminal region contains two domains (A/B) are designated as
AF1 and they are the least conserved domains and highly variable in length which exhibit a ligand
independent transactivation activity. So far, there is no three dimensional structure has been predicted
for A/B domain. (9). Central region C possess DNA binding domain (DBD) which is said to be the
most conserved region and possess similarity in their structure. DBD contains an important short motif
known as P box which is responsible for direct DNA interaction and detection of specificity for DNA
binding. DBD also possess additional sequences that are required for the homo or heterodimerization
of nuclear receptors. A pair of zinc fingers present in domain C is critically responsible for DNA
specific contacts and interaction. Domain D is the less conserved domain among nuclear receptors
which acts as a flexible hinge in between two domains such as C (DBD) and E (LBD) domains. In
addition, domain D possesses the nuclear localization signal (NLS) that regulates the sub cellular
distribution of nuclear receptors. The E region contains ligand binding domain (LBD) is

Analyzing M. Night Shyamalan s After Earth
Danger is real, but fear is a choice. As intriguing and captivating as this catch phrase sounds, the film
as a whole may not fit that classification. While M. Night Shyamalan s After Earth (2013) is
ineffective in reaching some of its audiences as anticipated, others seem to have enjoyed the movie
thoroughly. The film opens with a promising story where humans are forced to escape a polluted Earth
inhabited by an alien race that is trained to exterminate them and retreat to Nova Prime, a new home,
to find refuge. General Cypher Rage, played by Will Smith, plays a fearless warrior who has superior
ghosting ability to mask his fear which makes him invulnerable to the aliens. His son Kitai, played by
Jaden Smith, is an eager cadet wanting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A generic plot is a major reason for that. After Earth in the end proves to be a misfire at the box office
because of its dry and predictable story. M. Night Shyamalan is known for having twists in his stories,
but this film does not seem to follow that successful formula, and it eventually costs him. Throughout
the film, only three major things happen: a plane crash, Kitai running to retrieve the beacon, and a
fight that brings the movie to an end. Evidently, it is not possible to say that the film has no high
points, but as soon as it looks like the storyline is progressing, it ended and moved on to the next
scene. There is an instance in the film where Kitai is running from lethal dogs. When suddenly they
fence him from all corners; this build up turns into a that s it moment when Kitai escapes through a
little gap between the trees. Shyamalan seems to find little loopholes that he can use to save some time
instead of thinking of a more innovative way to get through obstacles. As soon as evening took over
Earth, the temperature drops rapidly. Kitai is fast asleep in the midst of the jungle, not knowing of the
danger that surrounds him. Nonetheless, this dangers does not prove to be a big deal for Shyamalan
because in a matter of seconds a gigantic bird appears and protects Kitai under its wings. When the
situation appears most intense, Shyamalan resorts to a convenient solution to get the characters out of
threatening situations. Because of this, the film does not

The Between Politics And Religion
1. Islam, as we saw early in this course, began with a fusion of religion and politics. How do the
various approaches to Islam we ve studied traditionalism as represented by the ulama, Sufism,
Islamism, and modernism differ in conceiving of the relationship between the two? Does each
necessarily have a vision of an Islamic engagement with politics and, if so, what does it look like?
The interaction between politics and religion in the Islamic context is one that descends from the
model of the Prophet Muhammad, who served as a transcendental figure and as a community leader at
the same time. Inevitably, then, these two aspects of Muhammad s position interacted to some degree.
Indeed, this intermingling of the political and the religious is seen in the very framework of Islam as
we know it the umma is at once a community defined around a religious identity and a political entity
extant through that religious identity. Nevertheless, Islam remains a diverse religion encompassing a
number of various ideologies frameworks by which the textual and traditional material of the faith are
interpreted and understood. This paper will examine a number of these ideological approaches to
Islam namely traditionalism, modernism, Islamism, and Sufism and explain their visions of how Islam
should relate with politics. Before I delve into this examination, however, it is worthwhile to spend a
moment defining the two terms at the center of the analysis. Within this paper, I

The Challenges Of Amphibians
Amphibians are an endangered group of animals where almost 20.41% species (among the total of 49
species) in Bangladesh has been recognized as threatened (IUCN, 2015), yet an enormous
unrecognized diversity is calling for a taxonomic exploration. But there are several challenges for
amphibian taxonomists as they have remarkable cryptic diversity phenotypic plasticity as well as
many frogs are morphologically similar but can be distinguished by genetic divergences. DNA
barcoding could be a quick means to obtain species identification precisely. The 5 end of COI gene
(cytochrome c oxidase subunit I) is advocated as the universal and ideal DNA barcoding marker for all
species (Hebert et al., 2004b). Nevertheless, frogs have been one of the ... Show more content on

The products were run through the 1.0% Agarose gel with bromophenol blue and the bands were
visualized under UV transluminator. Amplification by polymerase chain reaction method was done
using one pair of 16S rRNA and one pair of COI primer sets. Among them for 16S rRNA gene E.
kalasgramensis, H. tytleri and F. nepalensis were successfully amplified, for COI gene only E.
kalagramensis was successfully amplified. Amplified products were sequenced and the product length
was 553bp, 523bp and 521bp base pair long for 16S rRNA gene for E. kalasgramensis, H. tytleri and
F. nepalensis, respectively and 612 bp long COI gene of E. kalasgramensis. The sequences were
transferred to FASTA format and BLASTED within nucleotide database for the authentication and
matched in a range of 98% 100% for consensus sequence of the three species. GenBank based
identification yielded an alignment E value of 0.0. The overall ampliïŹcation and sequencing success
of the CO1 primers was low compared to the 16S gene. After several attempt COI gene was successful
to amplify only for one species.
For the clarification of the candidate species status, detailed phylogenetic analyses was performed and
a 16S and COI divergence survey were conducted for each family using 16S and COI data from the
DNA database data. Among the examined family, it was observed that for 16S rRNA based
phylogenetic tree all the members formed clade according to their taxonomy. Only

  • 2. Professional Practice And How Does It Differ Between... Introduction What is professional practice and how does it differ between patient facing versus laboratory based clinical scientists? Is there in fact a difference? Professional practice is one of the 5 domains of good scientific practice which define the standards and values all healthcare professionals should strive towards. Furthermore professional practice can be further divided into professional practice, probity, working with colleagues and training and developing others. As can be imagined all clinical scientists, whether in a patient facing role or not, will need to embody each of these to be an effective healthcare scientist. Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H I) is the branch of Clinical Science (Blood sciences) involved in HLA typing and screening for solid organ and haematopoietic stem cell transplants (Histocompatibility) and the genetics of major histocompatibility complex associated disease (immunogenetics). Clinical scientists within this field have limited patient interactions yet must still embody professional practice. Each of the following statements will examine aspects of professional practice and how they impact on clinical scientists within H I. Clinical scientists lead the way in innovation The central tenet of professional practice and the core of the NHS constitution is to make the patient your first consideration. • 6. Beliefs And Attitudes Toward The Native Americans Though a lot of individuals saw the Native Americans as savages, I see them just as protectors and defenders of their land. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were living peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never seen before invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when the invaders came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then began to brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you wouldn t comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how many of their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native Americans became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all captured by a different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course, Smith s, Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and attitudes toward the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the three that was captured was Mr. John Smith. While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a surge of Native Americans. The Native Americans, that was the Powhatan s Tribe, killed John Smith s men, but spared his life after Smith gave them a fascinating object which was a compass. After capturing him, ... The drudgeries of the farmyard become replaced with the drudgeries of the assembly line, to be replaced by the drudgeries of the cubicle, and so on and so forth. The video post industrial society does a great job briefly explaining this, citing the post industrial society being no longer focused on the production of things, rather on the creation of ideas and philosophies. While the video remains mostly factual and neutral, at the very end it s talking points would sound very similar to an article proclaiming the post industrial world as a myth .This article argues against those yearning for the days of industrialization, imagined as a world where ... The ability for a man or women to support themselves and their family is now unattainable in developed and industrialized countries with only muscle jerks and repetition, with robotics and cheap labor making nearly anyone in those industries replaceable, and therefore, poorly paid in comparison to labor. As the value of education became clear, children would no longer be forced to work for the majority of the day in dangerous and dilapidated coal mines, but instead spend twelve years being prepared for future careers in areas that would arguably, be much more beneficial. British policies towards the American colonies during the 1760s and 1770s, however, was not one of them. Sewall, a staunch supporter of authority, defended British policies. John Adams, on the contrary, believed the policies to be unjust and thus challenged British authority. Sewall believed that the colonial challenge to British authority threatened the very way of life in the colonies while Adams thought that British authority provided a bigger threat. Each man s view of the cause of the revolution also differed. Sewall defended British Authority by stating that, Man is a social Animal and that without authority and rules there can be no society. Others had strong connections to Parliament and the King and believed that Britain had the right to tax the American colonies and thus they supported the Crown faithfully throughout the war. IV When people write persuasive essays and articles they often use images and wording to help express what they wish to get across to the reader. Jonathan Sewall and John Adams were very skilled in doing this and could thus write extremely convincing arguments. Both used vibrant details when describing their ideas so that they would be presented in a clear and favorable light. Sewall and Adams were able to vividly describe images, in order to create a picture in the minds of the readers. Sewall used dramatic words to describe his feelings such as, It is in vain to think any longer of drawing them to such a pitch is the Frenzy now raised, that the Colonists will never yield Obedience to the Laws of the parent State, till, by Experience, they are taught to fear her power. Adams also used his diction to his advantage when defending his position. But it is honestly confessed, rather than become subject to the absolute authority of parliament, in all cases of taxation and internal polity, they will be driven to throw off that of regulating trade. • 9. Biological Determinism Summary In his introduction, Gould enlightens us on the views of Socrates. All people should be educated and belong to one of three classes within society; rulers, auxiliaries and craftsmen. Socrates believes firmly that if this organization is upheld then society will be stable. It was said by Glaucon, that Socrates prophecies may be disseminated through the generations. This was in fact the case due to his claims being advanced by the science of the times (Gould, 1996). This book according to this introduction looks to discuss this science of biological determinism. Biological determinism is an idea that sees all human behavior as innate. It postulates that we function as a matter of our genetics, brain size and biology and not society or culture. ... • 10. Mr Hale s Sisterhood Feminism is the want for equality amongst all of the peoples. It works to defeat problems that plague this planet, including misogyny. The fight for women s rights is one that has been going on for years on end. Set in the early 1900 s, this short story, with the characters of Mr. Hale, Mr. Peters, Mr. Wright, and the country attorney, clearly demonstrates misogynistic feelings though the characters actions and words. Mr. Hale and his son found Mr. Wright strangled in his own home, so the men of the story spent their time trying to prove Mrs. Wright was the culprit. This leads to pushing their wives to the side. In the end, the clever women figure out the mystery, and keep it from their misogynistic counterparts. Susan Glaspell s short story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wright s demise doesn t compare to the demise of women s rights. Both the topics of sisterhood and abuse are prominent in the short story, but fall in suit with the main topic of feminism. The short story doesn t just show characters with feminist ideas; it also shows why the world needs more feminists. The irony and the dialogue of the men validate Glaspell s feminist ideals, and how necessary they are for society to grow. Part of feminism is to eliminate internal and external misogyny. However, people can be quick to reveal their sexism through what they say. Mr. Hale showed it when saying (Glaspell 15). This comment is made because as the men are inspecting the scene of the crime, the women are peering around the Wright s kitchen. The men view this as trivial to the investigation, though they never had faith in the women to help them anyways. Its stated with a good natured air of superiority because Mr. Hale s misogyny is so internalized that he thinks it s a fair thing to say. Nonetheless, the author includes it to provoke the reader to look at the situation from both Mrs. Hale s and Mrs. Peters points of view. It s meant to make the reader as frustrated and uncomfortable as the women are, for it s an unfair judgment to make. By assuming that women only care about nominal aspects, it shows a downright disrespect for women, and proves that these men think nothing of the women s intellect. • 15. Analysis Of The Book The Screwtape Letters By Quot. Lewis C.S. Lewis once wrote There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. Throughout history mankind has struggled, relentlessly, to put this concept into perspective. Lewis, a well respected Christian author, thought it appropriate to develop a work that would help individuals grasp the notion of devils. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a powerful satire that develops situational and dramatic irony by allowing the reader to experience various thought patterns of the devil. Clive Staples Lewis has become known as one of contemporary society s most distinguished Christian authors. Throughout his career, Lewis emphasized a continuing Christian experience in almost all of his major writing, despite an early intolerance for the Church because of its institutionalized nature. Ironically, the idea for this novel came about at Holy Trinity Church near Headington Quarry. Actually, to be more politically correct, the letters were conceived shortly after listening to a radio broadcast by Adolph Hitler the night before. At this time Lewis remarked, Statements which I know to be untrue all but convince me, at any rate for the moment, if only the man says them unflinchingly. These events, along with written narratives, were printed in several corresponding letters to his brother, Warnie Lewis. The narratives would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Challenge Of The Antimalarials Drug Development The challenge of the antimalarials drug development is to deliver a drug that should: (i) address drug resistance issues, (ii) have a rapid onset of action, (iii) be safe, especially in children and pregnant women, and (iv) cure malaria in a single dose (v) identify novel targets. Artemisinin based combination therapies (ACTs) currently gold standard in treating uncomplicated malaria, have an inherent issue of emerging resistance. To tackle this problem, sophisticated cellular and phenotypic screening methods have identified drug candidates active against different stages of the parasites life cycle in recent years. The first generation ozonide OZ277, known as arterolane, has been found to inhibit the growth of chloroquine resistant (K1) and chloroquine sensitive (NF54) parasite strains with an IC50 = 1.6 1.8nM. In 2012, the combination of arterolane maleate and piperaquine phosphate was released as a 3 day treatment in India. The second generation peroxide OZ439 (EC50 = 3.4 4.0nM) featuring an 80 aryl rather than an 80 alkyl group causing higher stability of the O O bond towards Fe(II) increasing by 50 fold, presumably because of steric reasons, is now in Phase IIa studies. [6, 7] Tetraoxanes (also stabilizes O O bond), as was employed in the drug development candidate RKA 182, has displayed IC50 values of 4.9 nM against the P. falciparum 3D 7 strain and of 1.9 nM against the K1 strain (chloroquine sensitive and resistant, respectively). It reduced P. berghei parasitemia in mice to undetectable levels 24 hours after treatment. This compound is currently in preclinical trials and although it has greater stability than OZ277, its antimalarial activity is inferior to OZ439. [8, 9] Phenotypic whole cell screening method has revealed a 2 aminopyridine class of small molecules as a good starting point to develop new a derivative, MMV390048, which lacked cross resistance with current drugs used to treat malaria, and has a potential ability to block all life cycle stages of the malaria parasite. Eyewitness Testimony On The Criminal Justice System Psychological research shows that eyewitness testimony is not always accurate; therefore it should not be used in the criminal justice system. Discuss. Word Count: 2,589 There has been considerable interest and study in the accuracy or inaccuracy of the use of eyewitness testimonies in the current criminal justice system. Results collated by several studies add to the bulk of literature suggesting that the current usage of eyewitness testimony by the legal system is far from ideal. Currently, high emphasis is being placed on reviewing and reconsidering eyewitness accounts (Leinfelt, 2004). In particular, recent DNA exoneration cases have substantiated the warnings of eyewitness identification researchers by showing that mistaken eyewitness identification was the largest single factor contributing to the conviction of innocent people (Wells Olson, 2003). In this essay, the use of eyewitness testimony in the criminal justice system will be explored, with a particular focus on the impreciseness of this practice. Although Although theoretically conferencing may be seen as a viable alternative for adolescents to court proceedings, and indeed some evidence suggests it reduces recidivism, it will ultimately be concluded that the success of restorative justice programs depends on more than just its ability to reduce recidivism, and thus it will not always provide a useful alternative to more traditional criminal justice approaches. On February 23, 1868, William Edward Burghardt DuBois was born to Alfred Alexander DuBois and Mary Sylvina Burghardt DuBois. Born and raised in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, DuBois was educated alongside Caucasian children and taught by white teachers as well. In 1885 he migrated to Nashville, Tennessee to attend Fisk University ( W.E.B DuBois. ). While at Fisk, DuBois encountered irrational racism and Jim Crow laws for the first time. American Conservatism Essay American Conservatism Beginning with Nixon and continuing with Reagan after the radical changes of American culture in the sixties and seventies, Americans would begin to shift towards more conservative ideas unsure of the rapid radical change. In the 1994 mid term elections, the American people would elect a congress of mostly conservatives for the first time in nearly 50 years. At the core of this success would be the Contract with America. A set of promises and goals devised by conservative congressional representative Newt Gingrich. Historian Russell Kirk believes there are six basic tenets of all conservatism. To begin conservatives believe in a transcendent order or body of natural law, which rules society as well as conscience. Political problems at their roots are religious and or moral problems (9). The ideal that religion and morality can have influence over political and social problems is widely seen in the United States. The Republicans are often the choice of people with conservative Christian ideology. Another important tenet of conservatism is a respect for the proliferating variety of human existence, as opposed to the uniformity aims of most radical systems. Conviction that civilized society requires orders and classes (Kirk 9). This is reflected in American conservatism belief that economic leveling in inherently wrong. In the belief that economic leveling is wrong, conservatives also believe strongly in protecting the rights of private property owners. In addition, conservatives have a recognition that changes may not be salutary reform. Belief that custom and convention are checks on radical change that could be harmful to society (Kirk 8). These tenets are seen in American conservatism. In the fact that American conservative parties have always been opposed to radical reform, such was the case when Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed and enacted sweeping government intervention in his New Deal legislation. In order to better understand conservatism one must consider ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Alice in Wonderland Dream Analysis Dream Analysis of Alice in Wonderland Who s who and what s real; are we who we claim we are, and is reality really real or is everything just a fragment of what we think is the universe? A dream sequence is a technical term used mostly in film and television to set apart a brief interlude from the main story. (Wikipedia) The deeper lying theme that Carroll wanted to incorporate into his story of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, in my opinion, was not his psychological or sexual desire for Alice Liddell. What he did mean to express by writing these stories was his innermost desire to escape from reality in which a relationship between he and Liddell was not allowed to a fantasy land where everything is backwards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carroll thus displays himself as two different beings through this theme: a serious mathematician existentialist writer, and the uncanny photographer who enjoys taking nude pictures of little girls, which are undoubtedly one exactly same person in the world of two universes; since the two realities can have differences and yet both very real, Carroll s strange personality is not actually strange at all. Borges The Circular Ruins did not contain the same meaning as Carroll s existentialist ideas; Borges idea of dreams was strictly one way, in which when one person wakes up, the person who is being dreamed will vanish. The Circular Ruins questioned about our existence as real or just a fragment of someone else s imagination, which is supposedly as real as the actual reality of whoever is imagining us. Carroll s notion of dreams, then, questions a more complex essence of existence: of two possibly imagined universes imagining each other. Carroll expresses himself and his queer personality (or is it queer?) through a seemingly harmless book of nonsensical fantasies, and also questions his readers, and possibly himself, the meaning of life and the universe. What I always thought of as the fun story with insane poems, in addition to the wonderfully brilliant image of Wonderland portrayed by Disney, turns out to be quite an amazing text for future existentialists and ... It explains the need for analysis of a team effort to successfully implement strategies for reducing the carbon footprint. The problem appears to be a lack of communication and resources amongst the management and staff. The importance of waste management can relate directly to revenue in several ways including how supplies are utilized, reusing or selling unused equipment, and decreasing waste to reduce disposal costs. Solutions may include a learning plan for employees and implementation strategies for management. Key Words: carbon footprint, waste management, hotels, restaurants, spas, eco labels, industrial waste, sustainability Introduction The generation of waste may be considered one of the largest effects the hospitality and tourism industry has on the environment. This is in part due to the fact that many of the businesses, which make up this industry, use massive quantities of consumer goods. The importance of sustainability in the hospitality and tourism industry as it relates to development and operations is critical as it is one currently of the most important global issues. However, governments still lack the gender diversity in their leadership positions that is needed by today s standards and expectations. With more activism on a local and global level, future generations will grow up becoming leaders without limitations due to their gender. I have been able to grow up in a fortunate environment with a strong sense of equal gender opportunity, but there was always the absence of equal gender icons to look up to when I was growing up. Most textbooks and lessons were filled with the accomplishments of male scientists, explorers, artists, and most of all, leaders. It is essential that we educate children at a young age the importance for the push towards gender equality in leadership positions. After all, it is difficult for little girls to believe teachers when say that they can grow up to be anything they want to be when there are male clad posters of the United States presidents hanging up on the wall behind them. Had the plant been built in a more sparsely populated area, casualties and damage from the gas leak might have been drastically reduced. The Interpretation Of A Human Edmund Carnevale Mister Lister English Survey of British Literature 30 October 2016 The Interpretation of a Human How do a creature s actions portray them as human or monstrous? In what way do those who are not human act or look and if not human, then what are they? In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, it is observed that humans are characterized by showing compassion towards others and having character flaws, but Victor s creature s grotesque physical appearance causes society to abandon him. Humans will always have flaws and make mistakes, and this makes them human, but also shows one of the weaknesses that humans have. When Victor has destroyed the second creature in spite of his first creation, the malevolent creature shows up and foreshadows that something bad will happen on Victor s wedding night. This leads Victor to narrate, The prospect did not move me to fear; yet when I thought of my beloved Elizabeth, of her tears and endless sorrow, when she should find her lover so barbarously snatched from her (Shelly 156). Victor thinks about himself and is blind to the notion that his wife might possibly die. This proves that Victor s display of self centeredness is a trait that makes him human. After Victor had discovered that his creation had been the real murderer of his relative, William, he is shocked to find out that his cousin Justine Moritz had been accused and he says, My tale was not one to announce publicly; its astounding horror would be looked upon as madness ... Fusion of the third intracellular loop to the T4 lysozyme rendered soluble crystal junctions (Rosen H et al, 2013) for the rapidly disintegrating microcrystals (Hanson MA et al, 2012). Structure elements of S1PR1 The structural observations gained from antagonist preserved structures of Rhodopsin like GPCRs show that the typical orientation of the seven transmembrane domains have significant overlap. The minute overlap is produced depending on the helix bundle, tilt and the specific interactions (hydrophobic and electrostatic). This specific overlap is important for co ordinated signaling by the different GPCRs (Rosen H et al, 2013). GPCRs possess an extracellular domain consisting of the N terminus and three extracellular loops. However, a number of prominent features are associated with the Ligand Binding Pocket in the S1P1 receptor. The extracellular region of S1PR1 is significantly ordered. This is due to the N terminus comprising a well ordered α helix that projects the top of the receptor. This contributes to binding interactions and forms a helix cap, which occludes access to the amphipathic binding pocket (Hanson MA et al, 2012). Candide tells the man he is unsure and that his own answer does not belittle the fact he is hungry. The orator, despite having just finished speaking on charity, turns Candide away for his beliefs. In this scene, Voltaire is ridiculing the extreme Protestant sects of his time that were consumed by their hatred of Catholicism and Rome. Religion is further satirized by the auto da fĂ©, or act of faith, the learned men of Lisbon perform. The men blame the sins of Candide and Pangloss for the devastating earthquake and punish them via hanging and flogging. During the punishments, a sermon and religious concert are given. The beautiful religious music accompanying the horrifying punishments emphasize the hypocrisy of the church s appearance of holiness and the terrible events it oversees. Shortly after the punishment is carried out, another earthquake occurs dislodging the rationalization of religion and exemplifying that the sins of man, in this case Candide and Pangloss, are not the cause of disastrous ... Before knowing The Monster as Wolfheart, Elsa looks up to him in the Land of Almost Awake as a brave, loyal, and selfless fighter. She remembers the tale of Wolfheart returning from the forest when Miamas needed him the most. And that was the moment of Wolfheart return from the forests. Maybe because Miamas was teetering on the edge of extinction and needed him more than ever (Backman 94). This directly relates to the reality of Wolfheart being Elsa s superhero in the times that she needed a brave soldier. Her idolization of Wolfheart s bravery continues through the novel as Wolfheart proves to be a superhero in Elsa s reality. Wolfheart s heavy fists rain down ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Retinoid Inhibits Nrf2 Signaling Pathway through Retinoic... Retinoids, natural and synthetic signaling molecules that are structurally related to vitamin A. Compounds such as retinol, retinal, retinoic acid, retinyl esters and other derivatives are considered under the group of retinoids. Retinoids are significantly considered to be the most prominent regulators of several essential biological functions. For instance, active derivative of retinol (metabolite of Vitamin A) such as retinoic acid (RA) plays a major role in vision, cell differentiation, tissue homeostasis, apoptosis, organogenesis, regulation of immune system and embryonic pattern formation(1). In addition RA is also considered to be a potent chemopreventive and tumor suppressive agent because of its apoptotic and anti oxidant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These isoforms are formed because of differential usage of promoters and alternative splicing (8). As most, nuclear receptors including retinoid receptors possess similarities in their structural organization. Based on homology with other nuclear receptors, RAR and RXR receptors consists six conserved regions known as A F. The N terminal region contains two domains (A/B) are designated as AF1 and they are the least conserved domains and highly variable in length which exhibit a ligand independent transactivation activity. So far, there is no three dimensional structure has been predicted for A/B domain. (9). Central region C possess DNA binding domain (DBD) which is said to be the most conserved region and possess similarity in their structure. DBD contains an important short motif known as P box which is responsible for direct DNA interaction and detection of specificity for DNA binding. DBD also possess additional sequences that are required for the homo or heterodimerization of nuclear receptors. A pair of zinc fingers present in domain C is critically responsible for DNA specific contacts and interaction. Domain D is the less conserved domain among nuclear receptors which acts as a flexible hinge in between two domains such as C (DBD) and E (LBD) domains. In addition, domain D possesses the nuclear localization signal (NLS) that regulates the sub cellular distribution of nuclear receptors. The E region contains ligand binding domain (LBD) is ... • 47. Analyzing M. Night Shyamalan s After Earth Danger is real, but fear is a choice. As intriguing and captivating as this catch phrase sounds, the film as a whole may not fit that classification. While M. Night Shyamalan s After Earth (2013) is ineffective in reaching some of its audiences as anticipated, others seem to have enjoyed the movie thoroughly. The film opens with a promising story where humans are forced to escape a polluted Earth inhabited by an alien race that is trained to exterminate them and retreat to Nova Prime, a new home, to find refuge. General Cypher Rage, played by Will Smith, plays a fearless warrior who has superior ghosting ability to mask his fear which makes him invulnerable to the aliens. His son Kitai, played by Jaden Smith, is an eager cadet wanting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A generic plot is a major reason for that. After Earth in the end proves to be a misfire at the box office because of its dry and predictable story. M. Night Shyamalan is known for having twists in his stories, but this film does not seem to follow that successful formula, and it eventually costs him. Throughout the film, only three major things happen: a plane crash, Kitai running to retrieve the beacon, and a fight that brings the movie to an end. Evidently, it is not possible to say that the film has no high points, but as soon as it looks like the storyline is progressing, it ended and moved on to the next scene. There is an instance in the film where Kitai is running from lethal dogs. When suddenly they fence him from all corners; this build up turns into a that s it moment when Kitai escapes through a little gap between the trees. Shyamalan seems to find little loopholes that he can use to save some time instead of thinking of a more innovative way to get through obstacles. As soon as evening took over Earth, the temperature drops rapidly. Kitai is fast asleep in the midst of the jungle, not knowing of the danger that surrounds him. Nonetheless, this dangers does not prove to be a big deal for Shyamalan because in a matter of seconds a gigantic bird appears and protects Kitai under its wings. When the situation appears most intense, Shyamalan resorts to a convenient solution to get the characters out of threatening situations. Because of this, the film does not ... • 50. The Between Politics And Religion 1. Islam, as we saw early in this course, began with a fusion of religion and politics. How do the various approaches to Islam we ve studied traditionalism as represented by the ulama, Sufism, Islamism, and modernism differ in conceiving of the relationship between the two? Does each necessarily have a vision of an Islamic engagement with politics and, if so, what does it look like? The interaction between politics and religion in the Islamic context is one that descends from the model of the Prophet Muhammad, who served as a transcendental figure and as a community leader at the same time. Inevitably, then, these two aspects of Muhammad s position interacted to some degree. Indeed, this intermingling of the political and the religious is seen in the very framework of Islam as we know it the umma is at once a community defined around a religious identity and a political entity extant through that religious identity. Nevertheless, Islam remains a diverse religion encompassing a number of various ideologies frameworks by which the textual and traditional material of the faith are interpreted and understood. This paper will examine a number of these ideological approaches to Islam namely traditionalism, modernism, Islamism, and Sufism and explain their visions of how Islam should relate with politics. Before I delve into this examination, however, it is worthwhile to spend a moment defining the two terms at the center of the analysis. Within this paper, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Challenges Of Amphibians Amphibians are an endangered group of animals where almost 20.41% species (among the total of 49 species) in Bangladesh has been recognized as threatened (IUCN, 2015), yet an enormous unrecognized diversity is calling for a taxonomic exploration. But there are several challenges for amphibian taxonomists as they have remarkable cryptic diversity phenotypic plasticity as well as many frogs are morphologically similar but can be distinguished by genetic divergences. DNA barcoding could be a quick means to obtain species identification precisely. The 5 end of COI gene (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I) is advocated as the universal and ideal DNA barcoding marker for all species (Hebert et al., 2004b). Nevertheless, frogs have been one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The products were run through the 1.0% Agarose gel with bromophenol blue and the bands were visualized under UV transluminator. Amplification by polymerase chain reaction method was done using one pair of 16S rRNA and one pair of COI primer sets. Among them for 16S rRNA gene E. kalasgramensis, H. tytleri and F. nepalensis were successfully amplified, for COI gene only E. kalagramensis was successfully amplified. Amplified products were sequenced and the product length was 553bp, 523bp and 521bp base pair long for 16S rRNA gene for E. kalasgramensis, H. tytleri and F. nepalensis, respectively and 612 bp long COI gene of E. kalasgramensis. The sequences were transferred to FASTA format and BLASTED within nucleotide database for the authentication and matched in a range of 98% 100% for consensus sequence of the three species. GenBank based identification yielded an alignment E value of 0.0. The overall ampliïŹcation and sequencing success of the CO1 primers was low compared to the 16S gene.
