2. Ap Biology Lab
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this lab was to practice proper handling of the light microscope,
learn the names and functions of the light microscope parts, acquire skill in using the
light microscope by carefully following all directions, prepare a wet mount, and
locate objects under low and high power magnification. In addition, we will learn to
position objects when viewed with a microscope, adjust the diaphragm correctly to
achieve proper light under low and high power, learn to locate objects at various
places in the depth of field and use stains (iodine) as an aid.
METHODS:
The materials needed for this lab were: a light microscope, lamp (if needed or
available), microscope slide, coverslip, tweezers, preserved insect leg (or a parakeet s

First, we discovered that we should start with low power objective to observe. To
focus the image, use the coarse adjustment knob to adjust it. When looking at high
power objectives, the fine adjustment knob can be used. Also we discovered that
when you move the slide towards you, it appears to move away. When observing
the letter e , we discovered that the images observed under the light are inverted
and reversed. Although we could not easily tell with the feather, threads, and
potato, it became noticeable with the letter e . The e was placed like e , however
when looked into the eyepiece, the e was upside down. This shows that the
microscopes works in an inverted way. We also discovered that to adjust the
amount of light entering the microscope, we could use the iris lever to adjust the
diaphragm. For example, the white thread required little light to see the cotton
fibers, compared to the feather or letter e . Therefore, we learned that by altering
the diaphragm, we can fix many of the problems associated with the observations.
Lastly, we discovered that only one depth can be seen clearly at a time under high
power. When working with the crossed strands of thread, we had to turn the fine
wheel adjustment back and forth while looking through the microscope to focus one
strand. All in all, the lab supported the purpose. We were able to identify, function the
parts of a light microscope, and prepare a wet mount(of a feather, letter e , black and
white thread, and a potato). Furthermore, we located objects using high and low
power objectives, adjusted the diaphragm to attain correct lighting, and used stains
for an easier and more detailed

The Black man has a long history of slavery, violence and general tension in the
United States. Although there have been amendments to legislation to allow for some
equality, there is still progress to be made. In the meantime, civil rights movements
have given birth to organizations such as Nuwaubianism, that aim to keep the Black
community together. Using ethnographic research, techniques such as field
observations, interviews, and literary analysis I will conduct an autopsy of Black
Nationalism relating to the epistemological concepts surrounding Black ... Show more

The heavy symbolism on paraphernalia in the language of Nuwaup make it difficult
for a non member to attain the knowledge they seek without membership or reading
every single publication. I recognized some of the esotericism and secrecy had been
written in between the lines of the publications from structures of secret societies
such a freemasonry and Orders of the Golden Dawn. Although I could not fully
decipher the mission statement and main objectives of Nuwaubianism, I was able to
get an idea of their sentiments toward race and the position of the Black man in
society today. These revelations came in the form of an interview. The interview was
non traditional in the sense that I did very little of the talking. A member of the
organization mistook me for a fellow member and began a conversation concerning
their thoughts on their indoctrination. The conversation was fruitful in that it
provided sentiments on the outside world wrapped in Nuwaubian dogma, uninhibited
by the censorship normally provided to outsiders. According to the interview, a Black
man s capacity to flourish relies heavily on the amount of neuromelanin he possesses.
Animism is the original religion of The Black man and paying homage to your
ancestors takes the place of Christianity. The most surprising revelation was the

Analysis of Undressing Aunt Frieda Undressing Aunt Frieda, is a poem about the
narrator s remembrance of his Aunts life while visiting her on a death bed. The
narrative is in first person, and takes place as the narrator and his daughter are about
to leave the relative. The first half of the poem explores Frieda and her past. The
second half is about how the narrator and daughter have grown and learned from the
aunt. While undressing her aunt, the narrator feels emotions and remembers his past
with Frieda. The poem describes these emotions and memories in a metaphor
explaining unique characteristics of how Aunt Frieda undressed, and how she
impacted the relatives. The poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the remembrance of how he was undressed, the speaker describes how Aunt
Frieda would undress herself. Frieda undressed herself in her younger days. Her
slow removal of clothes seemed like seduction. To the narrator, Frieda undressing
herself represented a time of health, independence and youth, I try to imagine her
healthy, undressing herself (12). The speaker then remembers how her aunt s body
looked naked. She was a petite girl whose body had flaws. Her marks represent the
tough times Frieda had growing up. The poem eludes that it was her inner beauty
that stands out. It mentions two seventeenth century artists, Rubens and
Rembrandt, who have different styles of work. I researched their work and found
that Rubens is known for his very sensual and elegant work. In contrast, Rembrandt
portrayed tragedy especially in his old age. Aunt Frieda s life was not always
glorious, and she endured many tough times. whose scarred beauty Ruben would
surely have missed,/ but Rembrandt, in the loneliness of his dying days,/ might have
been immortalized (16 18). The poem begins to wind down with the undressing of
the newest generation, the daughter. Just like her dad used to as a child, she is
getting tired. The daughter is old enough to understand that a person needs to remove
clothing to get comfortable before sleep she has learned, recently, to undress herself
(21). The narrator has passed the knowledge he has learned from Frieda to
6. Analysis Of The Meal And Everyday Use
One s appearance is the first thing people judge when they come into contact. Some
people immediately wonder about his or her status, weather that person comes
from wealth, what their job is, are they married, do they have children, are the not
wealthy. In the poem, short story, and drama being analyzed, the appearances of the
characters and families are not what one may think. In fact, they are the complete
opposite, one may say even deceiving. Their minds shift and ready, like dunes
(Berger) is an interesting phrase used in Suzanne Berger s The Meal to describe the
state of the children. Berger s The Meal along with Alice Walker
s Everyday Use and
Wendy Wassersteins Workout use carefully selected words, tone and imagery to
portray a pertinent theme of deception in appearances. Suzanne Berger, Alice Walker,
and Wendy Wasserstein all have some sort of family
relationship and the woman of
the family seems to bear the troubles and struggle. Throughout their literary works
these problems help built the story. Alalysis, Oates Indruchova Libora notes that
women in today s society are not as relevant as their counter parts. They do as much,
if not more but do not receive the credit.
Suzanne Berger s The Meal uses a variety of wording to exhibit the amount of
deception depicted in the perfect family being described in her poem. A stanza from
Berger s poem reads Their minds shift and ready, like dunes (Berger), meaning that
the children have been participating in
7. Survival In Hatchet
Eat or be eaten. Life is basically just a big survival game. It s important to survive,
if you don t you will not live. An astonishing example is the USS Indianapolis. The
Indianapolis was a flagship and it had just gotten done delivering parts to another
ship. On it s way back to port, a Japanese submarine shot the Indianapolis with a
torpedo and the ship started to sink. The crew members got on life rafts and were
stranded in the middle of the ocean with little food and water. On the third day of
being stranded sharks went into a frenzied attack eating the crew members. Finally,
on the fourth day they were found. So, with their courageous act of surviving they
lived and got to see there family. They fought to stay alive and that is of great
importance to life. A fascinating example of survival is the book Hatchet. Hatchet is
about a boy who was going to Canada to see his dad. The pilot had a heart attack
while driving the plane. The plane crashed but the boy managed to survive through
the brutal Canadian wilderness for about two months. He had to build shelter, find

society, people are fighting for survival. Citizens in cities are fighting for food

8. Cause And Bad Effects Of Smoking
Smoking
We all know smoking is bad for us. But do you know exactly why? Smoking can
lead to cancer and cancer can lead to death. That can put a big effect on a loved one.
For the people that don t smoke, smoking affects them as well. Smoking is killing
society. Smoking is killing people slowly the ones who quick to light up a cigarette.
Second hand smoke affect society more than the person that s puffing the cigarette.
Smoking has people that don t smoke kick out money for the ones who smoke. It is
proven that the person who inhales the smoke coming out from the cigarette is
more affected than the one who smokes. Second hand smoke can cause you to get
sick than you might have to go to the doctor. You may not have Medicaid and
hospital bills can be sky high. When someone smokes a cigarette, most of the smoke
doesn t go into their lungs. It goes into the air, where anyone nearby can breathe it.
That s why some restaurants smoking is prohibited. Do you have kids at home?
Smoking around your kids increases their risk of developing ear infections, asthma,
and other breathing complications like coughs, shortness of breath. Every family
member in your household is at risk cause of second hand.
When working on a job even when you not puffing a cigarette your colleagues can
still be impacted. The smokers cost businesses an average $5,816 extra dollars each
year. Secondhand smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals. Hundreds of them are toxic
and 70 have been shown to cause cancer in

destroy pipelines, gas lines that can cause fire and zero electricity. Usually there are
aftershocks for weeks or months. For example, the earthquake that happened in San

11. A Brief Look at the Navajo Nation
The times have changed, but the spirit lives on. The Navajo are a Native American
tribe that resides as their own nation in the southwestern part of the United States.
The land consists of desert and mountains, so the Navajo had to learn many skills
to live and adapt with the land. They gathered plants and nuts to eat, hunted
animals for meat, and used the skins to keep warm at night as the temperature in
the desert drops to below freezing. As times changed the Navajo adapted their skills
to benefit them. They got herds of goats and sheep and used wool from the sheep
to weave amazing blankets. Today, the Navajo tribe teaches their cultural traditions
and beliefs to their children and followers. They believe nature is sacred and they
give thanks to the animals and plants they use for food. The Navajo passed on their
beliefs that the people emerged into the world to escape a flood in the lower world.
The Navajo also tell many stories to show respect for nature and the spirits and
neglect the ones of being treated unlawfully. The Navajo Nationallows these people to
try and maintain the lifestyle that their ancestors lived, with some modern exceptions.
Most Navajo peoplelive on the reservations, but sadly, they are poverty stricken.
However, it is a place where they are sheltered from a growing society. Due to all of
this, the Navajo s unique traditions and beliefs, along with its prior mistreatment,
justify the formation of their own nation.

He believes in order to obtain money, one must posses luck. This brings forth the next
example of irony present which is shown on pg.77. In a dialogue with his mother,
Paul asks Is luck money, mother? , and his mother replies No, Paul. Not quite. It s
what causes you to have money. Paul then responds Oh! I thought when Uncle Oscar
said filthy lucker it meant money. This is ironic because Paul interprets filthy lucre as
filthy lucker which he believes means luck but really meant money. It shows that Paul
does not understand that luck is not money and that statement further shows his
misunderstanding between the two concepts.
Religious words and phrases are constantly being declared throughout the story. On
pages 82 and 83 Basset refers to Paul s insight on winning horses in a religious voice
stating It s as if he had it from heaven. On pg.78 after stating he was lucky, Paul said
God told him he was lucky. On pg 80 Basset was as serious as a church . All these
religious examples show that the rocking horse is symbolized as a pagan idol. The
rocking horse is worshipped by Peter, Basset and later by Uncle Oscar who depend
on the horse for their demands.
The fourth and final example of irony is the phrase repeated by Paul throughout the
story, Honour bright . Paul uses this phrase when he is referring to the club or
alliance that Basset and Uncle Oscar have formed with him in regards to his rocking
horse secret. Paul
13. Water Purification Process
Reason for the process
There are many problems in the world that people face today. One of the biggest
concerns is the lack of clean and drinkable water for human use. Over 70% of the
earth is covered with water, so the need for drinkable, usable and clean water is
inevitable. Purified water is also used for medicinal purposes as well industrial. Clean
water is used in making medicine and also used in food products. Water can contain
thousands of contaminants like waste discharges from industrial or municipal use
and runoff from agriculture use. Many chemical industries around the world focus on
the process of water purification. With the help of this process we are able to get
clean water for medical, pharmacological and even third world countries.
History of the process.
There is not only one specific process of purifying water. The method of purifying
water is based on what the water is being used for. The oldest methods of water
purification date back to about 2000 BC. At that time they had some idea of water
purification that involved heat. Boiling water is one of the simplest methods of
making water drinkable. As time went on people began to experiment with sand
filtering. Once the microscope was invented it allowed us to see small material
particles in the water that ultimately furthered the process of water purification. In
the 1700s the first domestic water filters were created, sort of like what we use
today but they were made of wool, charcoal and sponge. A man

Organ Donors Must Not be Paid
Today, medical operations save lives around the world, a feat that surely would
surprise our ancestors. Many operations replace defective organs with new ones;
for new organs to be ready to be implanted there need to be organ donors. We are
not so advanced a society that we can grow replacement organs. Thousands of organ
donors in the United States every year are seen as doing the most noble of deeds in
modern civilization, and most of the time death has to occur before the organ can be
used. Now, though, some are suggesting that organ donors or their beneficiaries
should be paid for their donations. This should not happen, as it creates a strain on the
already tight national budget, forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even in recent years where the United States has had a surplus budget, the
government starts new programs instead of supporting established things that need
considering, such as the foreign debt and Social Security. Can the government really
be expected to have enough money to spend on these and other causes and the
expensive cost of compensation?
In the United States, organ sales are illegal, and conducted only on the black
market and with either unlicensed or underhanded doctors performing the
operations. The law prohibiting selling organs is there primarily to protect a person
s life and pursuit of happiness. What happens when people get paid for donating
organs? A human being only needs one lung and one kidney; many people would
endanger their health by donating organs to get money. A booming industry of
organ sales would emerge, with some people stooping to violent means in order to
forcibly acquire more organs to sell and get rich off of.
Donor doesn t quite describe a person being paid for giving something.
Reimbursement is the key idea, but how can someone truly donate something with
knowledge that he or someone that depends on him will benefit monetarily? A donor
is someone who gives willingly without want of thanks or compensation, a volunteer.
Donors, volunteers, are not in it for the money. A true donor donates his organ
simply because it is saving a life, not because he wants himself or his family to get

There are four Acts passed by Congress that were pivotal for equality in the
American workforce. Until these laws were passed by Congress, people of color and
woman suffered grave injustices in the form of hiring, income, promotion, and
termination. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended the Jim Crow laws of the South that
promoted segregation and many laws of inequality that plagued the southern states in
America. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 helped establish equal pay for women in the
workforce. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 established litigation for
working pregnant women. The Civil Rights Act of 1991 greater enforced the Civil

discriminations to minorities. The learning of these important laws will help an

19. Perception Is Not Reality
Perception is not reality for many reasons. We are living in a virtual reality age of
time in our lives so if we know something you will believe what you know. I think
because of all the technology that we can use like video editing you can make
some that are fake and make it look like it is real. This trick us into believing things
that are not real. If you think that seeing is believing some things can distort how
we look at things from our view. In one of the images in the story on page 79 of,
ВЁMagic and the Brain , it says, ...often induces a false sense of flowing movement
in the concentric rings. It also says in, ВЁMagic and the Brain,ВЁ a job of the

20. How Of A Lab Report
How to Write a Lab Report
The purpose of a lab report is to describe your lab experiment in such detail
(including what was used, when it took place, who was present, how the lab went,
what happened, what results were found, and the overall discussions and
conclusions) that your described experiment or lab could be replicated by someone
of similar education and training who was not present. A lab report should be written
as a description of what you did, not instructions for doing the lab. Another goal
(especially at this level) is to thoroughly explain what you did and what you learned.
When writing a lab report, do not use personal pronouns such as we or I , and so on.
For example, write, The egg was placed in a container rather than I placed the egg in
a container . The report should be written in past tense. Your paragraphs should be
one and a half spaced. Choose a professional font and use a font size of 10, 11, or 12.
ALL WRITING MUST BE YOUR OWN WORDS even if you were working with
other people!
A lab report contains the following components:
Title
The title should be concise (try for less than ten words) and should reflect the
factual content or purpose of the lab / paper. A good title is straightforward and uses
keywords that researchers in a particular field will recognize (such as pH Lab , or
Virtual pH Lab ).
Introduction
The introduction of a lab report states the purpose of your experiment. Your
hypothesis should be included in the introduction, as well
21. Teen Specific Laws Essay
Whether or not there should be teen specific laws is a controversial topic. Some
people may argue that there should be teen specific laws, specifically adults, but
those adults don t listen to reason. Former animator, entrepreneur, TV producer,
and film producer, Walt Disney says, Too many people grow up. They forget. They
don t remember what it s like to be 12 years old. They patronize, they treat children
as inferiors. Children and teens are human beings just like everyone else is;
therefore, teens learn to do things as all human beings do. Teens can only learn to
make good decisions by making them, not by following directions. It is obvious that
teen specific laws are not necessary.
Teen specific laws are unnecessary, they cause an abundance of new and unnecessary
problems. An example of unnecessary laws would be curfew laws. Curfew laws don t
do anything but create more complications. According to the article, Youth Curfews
Popular with American Cities but Effectiveness and Legality Are Questioned, by
USA editor, Tony Favro, Juvenile arrests increase significantly in most cities with
curfews. Do people really want to fix one itsy bitsy problem even if it means a
bunch more problems will appear? Although these laws were originally created to
benefit the society as a whole, one may never know how a teen would respond to the
laws. Moreover, these unnecessary laws may cause teens to act out. According to Dr.

22. Chemical And Biological Properties Of Soil Pollution
It is always difficult to remove contaminations from soils because it contains many
toxic chemicals such as (Pb, As, Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg and Zn). This chemicals mixed
with the soil after burning of industrial waste, electronics waste or uses of agricultural
technology. Then rain water makes it seep deep into the soiland cause soil pollution.
This makes it so difficult and time consuming to remove, particularly when the
affected area is on a large scale. Soil is made of by two components which are
organic and inorganic solid constituent, water and mixture of different gasses present
in various proportions. The mineral component in the soil varies, according to the
parent material which the soils had been developed due to the issue of different type
of climate conditions. Also, soil can also be classified into three different properties,
physical, chemical and biological properties. Physical properties of soil are being
controlled by soil water movement, such as texture and soil structures. The soil
moisture have high tendency in controlling solute movement, salt solubility, chemical
reaction and microbiological activities and most importantly the bioavailability of
metal ions. In this situation, a successful phytoremediationprogram must be
considered as an alternative in the specific site. In the past lots of researchers have
tried different method in order to mitigate or reclaim the heavy metals polluted soils,
but so far phytoremediation is the best of all because it is
23. Anthropogenic Effects Of Upwelling
Organisms have the ability to adapt to certain stresses called a stress response,
however the region in which they are able to cope with stress is only so big. Once
once the threshold is past the organism can no longer cope with the stress and it
negatively affects the organism. Anthropogenic induced climate change are adding
many stress factors on organism that they have to cope with at once. Upwelling
occurs when winds from the North come down, bringing up the nutrient rich waters
up with them. This nutrient is good for the area, however due to other anthropogenic
causes this can be a recipe for disaster.
The East Pacific Coast is an area that experiences upwelling. This area of upwelling
is special, because the Pacific is end of the converobelt of the Meridional cycle.
This means that this water is the most oxygen depleted and most Carbon rich in the
ocean. Increasing CO2 emissions finding their ways into the ocean, and increasing
carbon in the oceans leads to its acidification. Upwelling regions are naturally more

We can measure how certain variables like temperature, ph and oxygen levels affect
on biological processes such a growth rate, reproduction and mortality. The
organism we choose to study can be from different trophic levels to see how these
changes affect the ecosystem as a whole and the food web. We can take
measurements of these factors where they are high and see how they affect the
organism. Additionally, we can test these variables individually in close systems to
see what type of effects it has. In a video we watched in class we saw how rising pH
could affect corals killing them off with coral bleaching and if acidic enough the
coral itself would erode away because it was under the saturated state. Understanding
these effects is essential to preserving our ocean and its
24. Seat Belts Should Be Required
Imagine this, a church bus crashed into a truck the driver and 12 passengers on the
bus died not including the truck driver who died also. But that actually happened in
Concan, Texas. Why? They were all wearing seat belts, the seat belts just prevented
them from evacuating Now that is really sad, this is why I feel there should be no
seat belts on a bus. Seat belts on a bus should not be required because of the expense
they bring and if there is an emergency it would take longer for the person to
evacuate out of the seat belt.
Most buses don t have seat belts because they are expensive. Therefore, Requiring
seat belts on school buses would be one more thing where dollars need to go (

25. Social Classes
Education within social classes have grown exponentially apart over the last couple
decades because many different factors have been presented in today s society.
Education plays an important role in today s classification of social classes, but first
we need to understand the different levels of social classes. Social classesare often
determined by education, occupation, wealth, and your social network. These social
classes are the upper class; top 3% and the wealthiest, the middle class; 50% of the
United States, and the lower/working class; typically people of poverty,
unemployment, and homelessness. Each level of class has different guidelines

These people are least educated and tend to live paycheck to paycheck. It is this class
that you will find people collecting welfare and living in government housing.
Homelessness and unemployment run high in this class. Anyone in this class lacks
proper medical care, adequate housing, clothing and food. Rarely will you find
someone in this class that holds an advanced academic degree, graduated high school,
and are thinking about furthering their schooling into secondary schools past the
mandatory minimum education requirements. The lower class students are usually
labelled in school, as the ones who are uneducated, unmotivated, and predictable
when the schooling gets harder. This leads to the lower class students often feeling
demoralized and uninspired to become better, so they give up without even trying to
succeed. With little to none support from their family, most of these students start
school unable to read, they test poorly, and are often absent a lot more than usual.
Education usually becomes of not of importance within this social group. By the
time, these students are actually eligible for special programs, grants, or loans they
are often unmotivated or disadvantaged and unwilling to accept help from others,
which leads to the decline of education in the lower class, further separating the
educational levels between

Abstract An experiment was undertaken to isolate and identify the seed borne fungi
of Green gram. Seed samples of three Green gram varieties were collected from Pulse
research station, NAU, Navsari. PDA plating method was employed for the isolation
of the fungi and cultural, microscopic study was adopted for the identification.
Altogether nine fungi were found in association Viz., M. phaseolina, A. alternata, C.

Introduction
Green gram (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) is one of the most important pulse crop of
the arid and semiarid tropics (Chen et al., 1987). It is an excellent source of easily
digestible protein. Several factors are responsible for low production of Green gram.
Among them, diseases play an important role (Nene, 1980; Pal, 1996). Many fungal
pathogens, some of which are seed transmitted, often reduce the germination ability
or kill the infected plants or substantially reduce the productive capacity. However,

Gay Men and Adoption Debate
My investigation is based on the issue should gay men be allowed to adopt .
My aims are:
(1) To find out how the media portray gay adoption
(2) To uncover the attitudes of the general public toward gay adoption.
I am interested in this issue because I believe that it is unfair that gay people suffer
more prejudice than straight people when adopting a child. I think they should just be
given the same checks as straight people.
My first aim links into the parts of the syllabus; The Media and Power and Authority.
My second aim links in with The Family, Power and Authority, The Media and

Ultimately the contemporary family is more diverse. Today, more than in the
past, gay couples are more widely accepted, but there is still a longstanding taboo
hanging over the idea of two men bringing up a child. This is less so where there
are two women, because they do not need to adopt, and people also believe that it
is women s natural goal to bring up a child. The debate over gay men adopting is
fuelled by the media who often make people scared of the idea.
Methodology ===========
For this investigation I used a number of methods to create my report. When
distributing my questionnaires I first used a pilot questionnaire to test my style of
questions. From this study I found that some of my questions were badly worded or
contained spelling mistakes. This turned out to be very helpful as a lot of my
questions were very badly worded and could cause some confusion.
When writing my questionnaire, I was careful not to include any questions that may
cause offence to my interviewees. The subject, Finding out the publics attitudes to
gay adoption could raise some problems. For example it was difficult to ask peoples
sexuality because to many people that is a very sensitive and private issue. I also
accepted that asking peoples religion was too much of a personal question. I realise
that these questions

Existence Precedes Essence our demonstrations make our existence. Humankind
alone exists; things are only things (for instance, they don t exist fundamentally).
Creatures and vegetables possess a middle position. Plants sprout, create organic
products, live, and after that kick the bucket. Creatures are conceived, chew their
nourishment, make sounds, take after their impulses, and bite the dust. Neither
plants nor creatures settle on ponder decisions or carry through with responsibility.
This implies we have the decision in all that we do. We are in charge of our fate and
we are what we make of ourselves. The main decision we don t have is that of

29. The Importance Of Negative Body Image
Approximately в…“ of Americans are unfit. Being unfit causes a poor body image,
health issues, and a lower amount of activity, which can result in obesity. Being fit
helps people have a positive body image, health benefits, and higher amounts of
activity. Whether you re fit or not, both can greatly affect you. Being fit and unfit
differs in many ways such as; body image, health, and the amount of activity each
person does. Body image is defined as the subjective picture or mental image of
one s own body, which greatly differs among the fit and unfit individuals. Body
image has a powerful effect on all. Negative body image has grown to almost
epidemic proportions in the past 20 years, with as many as 60 percent of adults in
national studies saying they don t like the way their bodies look (Hausenblas).
Many people are dissatisfied with the way their bodies look, so they turn to
numerous products such as diet pills, and cosmetic procedures. Body image isn t
always negative. Studies show, people who exerciserather than those who don t, feel
much better about their bodies. How does body image affect people? Body image
is both internal and external, the internal is how we personally feel about our
bodies, and external is how society perceives our bodies. Nowadays, how we look
has a huge societal importance, possibly more than it ever has. The media is serving
as a platform on how we should look. When we re constantly on social media and
seeing perfect images of others, it

projects, specifically any acts likely to expose C1 s employees, members, or officers
to criminal or civil liability. As a parent company, C1 has both the option of
establishing (or in this case, maintaining) a C corporation ( C Corp ) or a limited

Love Is Strange shows audiences the love between two old men could be so

to talk about life trivia, which studio are not interested in. But we can see it is some
trivial and real matters that affect audiences and their emotion. It is interesting too.

another big difference is in the original tony is involved with bootlegging and selling

With knowing that this creature was so clearly not a H. sapiens, it leads us into the
bigger question of how did this hominin become dwarfed when compared to other
late Pleistocene hominins. This brings in the question how we should approach
assigning taxonomy. Early on, there was argument for creating a whole genus to
place H. floresiensis because the explanation for their existence was complicated.
(Aiello 2010) H. floresiensis s height and body portion of long arms and short legs
appear to more similar to that of the much older Australopithecines. But as know from

follow our conclusions an H. erectus origin, these older tools were likely from

belonged to a population of earlier hominins present before H. floresiensis. Despite
all this evidence for a H. erectus origin, there an issue of the details which H.

of the H. floresiensis debate is pinning one of these subspecies as the origin

relation for the other members of the Homo genus. But if we truly look at the
genus of Homo critically, it doesn t take much for us to see that the genus itself is
yet to perfectly defined. It the recent times, there has been a lot of changes to ideas
we use to define a member of the genus Homo. There has been debate on where to
change the name of our H. sapiens. The idea would be to define the current modern
day human as a subspecies. For now, Homo appears to be an umbrella term with
species under it that serve as their umbrella terms. This brings to the question of
whether H. floresiensis is subspecies of H. erectus due the fact it displays similar
morphologies. H. floresiensis could easily bear the name Homo erectus floresiensis,
but this is issue of debate. Because of the nature

in using genetically modified organisms (GMOs) would be linked to their benefits.
Many food labels claim to be rid of GMOs, even though most American shoppers
are not educated of what that exactly entails. Altering or replacing genes within a
crop or livestock may seem dangerous; however, fruits are juicier, produce have

Erik Vance found that a Green Revolution had existed before the introduction of
GMOs; people wanted to increase the traits of crops (such as wheat) associated
with human consumption to compensate world population growth. By using
GMOs, pesticides and herbicides weren t necessary to fulfill this concept, and they
were also less harmful to consumers and the environment. GMOs are also much
less expensive than repeatedly buying chemicals to put on crops, making it easily
accessible to poorer countries. Also, by genetically modifying crops, they can
tolerate the effects of natural disasters and have much higher survival rates than
those of unmodified crops. Flood proof rice is already in effect in some countries,
and with positive results. Countries considered to be poor can grow rice totally
submerged in water for up to two weeks, and because the genetics of the rice were
altered directly in rice fields and not labs, government agencies tended to scrutinize

drought and long periods of below freezing weather. GMOs can also help crops and
livestock withstand disease. Several international institutes are developing apples

An example of where this has occurred is in the civilisation that once inhabited
Easter Island. The history of the island has become a symbol of human induced
ecological and subsequent cultural collapse. It was home to the ancient civilisation,
of Polynesian decent and is most well known for the hundreds of Moai stone
statues that were erected across the island by the ancient civilisation (Diamond,
2006) . It is known that the society on Easter Island was a complex society but at
the time that Europeans discovered the island, the population had crashed and was
almost decimated (de la Croix and Dottori, 2008). Ecological collapse is often
regarded as the predominant factor, which caused the societal collapse.
The limits set by Easter Islands geography presented challenges to early human
settlers. The climate is cool, windy and dry compared to other pacific islands. The
cooler waters resulted in a reduced availability of fish and shellfish, one of the main
dietary staples for other civilisations in the pacific at that time(Diamond, 2006).
The accessibility to fresh water was also difficult. The porous volcanic soils caused
the water to percolate quickly. There is only one fresh water stream on the island
and few fresh water springs, offshore and ponds in volcanic craters (Diamond, 2006).

Enquiry based learning provides an opportunity for the children to have ownership
and personalise their learning. These skills enable pupils to ask relevant questions, to
pose and define problems, to plan what to do and how to research, to predict
outcomes and anticipate responses, to test conclusions and improve ideas. (National
Curriculum, 2000). These approaches can be used in foundation subjects and R.E

P.E is a course that focuses on developing physical fitness in the youth and is
required to be taught in both primary and secondary schools. Enquiry based
learning can be implemented in P.E by providing experiences which allow the
children to self learn and self teach which gives them opportunities to practice and
develop problem solving and decision making skills. It is important that enquiry is
used in physical education especially because not only does it improve mental
abilities but also helps with physical development and knowledge of the body in
action. In practice, personalising learning means that a P.E teacher is able to
identify and support a pupil or a group of pupils who have limited understanding of
the lesson . (Armour, 2014). As a teacher, I could start of a lesson by questioning
the pupils with how many different ways can you pass the ball? and through this
question the children will try out different ways on how to pass a ball and begin to
learn through a leading question. With this, you could get the children to play
different games which encourage teamwork, set goals and think of things like how
the body changes with each pass of the ball. It is important to teach P.E through an
enquiry based approach because it allows for differentiation and children to be
challenged, helps them evaluate and analyse their learning and create students who
can be critical thinkers who
38. The Four Roles Of Mentoring And Mentoring In The
Odyssey
The origin of the term mentor dates back to the near end of 18th century BC, when
the Greek epic poem Odyssey, written by Homer, is believed to have been
composed. As the main character, Odysseus, embarks in a 20 year long journey, he
asks his friend, Mentor, to guide his son during his absence. Mentor accepts it, and
acts as a father figure, teacher, role model, leader, and friend to Telemachus (Online

Modern interpretations of mentoring pinpoint four distinct roles which mentors are
expected to play: role modeling, sponsorship, coaching, and counseling the mentee.

Thus they search for different ways of carrying out their activities successfully. Also

since no organization exists without their cooperation.
Meyer and Herscovitch (2001) argue that commitment is an energy that attracts an

they claim that varying levels of dedication result in different behaviors. Thus, it can
be said that commitment also has the potential to affect employees performance and
loyalty to the organizations (Schminke 2011). Although there are many different
concepts of the connection between personal and organizational values, Kristof (as

Coke Zero : Do real men drink diet coke ?
Case Analysis
1. Background :
The Coca Cola Company identified that no company was satisfying young men
needs. Almost 10 years ago, Coke executives set out to change the by introducing
Diet Coke and Diet Coke Plus, and in 2005 they launched a brand that defied the
odds: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pepsi Max was introduced in 1993 in international markets and in the U.S. in 2007.
Despite the accolades, Coke Zero stumbled out of the gate. Big success came only
after Coca Cola adjusted on the fly.
The drink was initially marketed with a tagline of everybody chill a vague
emotional message that didn t work. Consumers were left confused about what the
brand meant. The Coke Zero brand team had studied beer ads for clues to appealing
to young adult men, but the team hadn t clearly explained Coke Zero s reason for
being in the market.
The company sought to boil down Coke Zero s intrinsic value with a message that it
delivered real Coke taste, zero calories. Five years on, the marketing pitch remains
the same.
Coke Zero was initially sold in white cans and bottles. In the feedback from
consumers, Coca Cola researchers noticed a problem. The white packaging connoted
diet drinks, and among the coveted young male demographic, diet connoted female.
The company quickly borrowed an idea from its Australian division and swathed
Coke Zero in black. Within six months, the new marketing and packaging were in
place, and the brand took off.
In 2009, a year in which overall soda sales shrank by about 2 percent, Coke Zero
sales jumped 20 percent in the U.S., from 97 million cases to 116 million,
40. Comparing Crusader Bible And Zulaiha
Humans have always been captivated by beauty. Even though each culture has
different standards for attractiveness, the appreciation of beauty is seen all across
the world. Artists in particular work diligently to capture the beauty around them,
and the culture they identify with plays a major role in how they do so.
Differences are apparent in the Crusader Bible and The Story of Yusuf and
Zulaiha, which were made a few centuries apart in different locations. Both of these
manuscripts were made to illustrate stories from their culture, and by taking the
story of David and Bathsheba on Folio 41 in the Crusader Bible and comparing it
to the image Yusuf summoned by Zulaikha to Serve at a Feast the similarities in use
of space and color are evident. However, as a result of differences in time and
culture they both have different approaches to the use of detail and the depiction of...

The Crusader Bible was first made in France around 1240 for King Louis IX, and
eventually made its way through Italy, Persia, Egypt, and Poland where
descriptions of the stories were written down in different languages. One of the
most popular stories of the Old Testament is found on Folio 41, the story of David
and Bathsheba. On this single page the image of King David seeing Bathsheba
bathing on the roof, having an affair her, and then sending for her husband are
depicted using bold lines and bright colors. David is seen as one of the most
important and well known figures of the Old Testament, so the artist took care to
put more detail into him and Bathsheba, the two main characters of this part of the
story. In every scene David is clearly recognizable because of the crown on his head
and his green and orange robes, which have more detail than other minor

Battle of the Huertgen SFC Nick Deeb SLC Class 15 001 Battle of the Huertgen
During the final months of World War II, the battle of the Huertgen Forest was
widely considered to be the longest battle in the history of the United States
military, as well as one of the most costly in terms of human losses. In those four
months, over 60,000 Soldiers died or were casualties of the brutal engagement. The
U.S. Army knew that the Huertgen was a deep dark forested area that would be used
by the German Army to hide untold numbers of German troops in which to launch
offensives against the Southern flank of the U.S. line of troops moving into the heart
of Germany. On the simple face of looking at the size and density of the Huertgen

Ultimately, it may have even affected the duration of the upcoming Battle of the
Bulge. The terrain of the Huertgen and surrounding area was hugely significant in
this battle. The Huertgen was a dense forest, and it has not yet to this day over
seventy years later recovered from the massive amount of shelling that occurred
during the 4 months between September and December 1944. The Huertgen is
approximately 50 square miles, and was heavy with 100 foot tall trees. It was so
dark that it was difficult to see more than a few meters in front of oneself in certain
areas, thus making travel extremely difficult for the advancing U.S. forces. The
Germans that were waiting the advance of the American troops within the forest in
fortified bunker positions had the renewed determination of fighting on their own
soil. The Huertgen is made up of a deep gorge like valley known as the Kall Valley.
It is beset by two large spurs of high ground where the towns of Schmidt, Vossenach
and Kommershiedt lay. The Americans objective for the advance towards the
Huertgen was to take these towns, destroy the German forces until the Huertgen was
empty of any possible German resistance, thus protecting what would be their
Southern flank on the march towards victory, bringing a quick end to the war. The
American commanders at the highest of echelons felt that the war itself was nearly
over by October 1944 and that the spirit of the German forces were about to break if
they had not

Attention Deficit Disorder
Approximately 3 5% of all American children have an Attention Deficit
Disorder (ADD). ADD is a leading cause of school failure and under achievement.
ADD characteristics often arise in early childhood. As many as 50% of children with
ADD are never diagnosed. Boys significantly outnumber girls, though girls are more
likely to be undiagnosed with ADD. quot;ADD is not an attention disorder, but a

Without enough dopamine and related catecholamines, such as serotonin and
norepinephrine, the frontal lobes are under stimulated and thus unable to perform
their complex functions efficiently. Attention Deficit Disorder is strongly considered
genetically inherited, however, not all cases of ADD may be genetically linked. .
Studies have shown that 20 30% of all hyperactive children have a least one parent
with ADD. The environment is a big influence on a child during pregnancy and after.
Some studies show that a small percentage of ADD cases were influenced by
smoking, drinking alcohol, and using drugs during pregnancy.
Exposure to toxins, such as lead, may also alter the brain chemistry and function. If
you suspect that you are suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder you will need to
discuss it with your medical doctor. In most cases the doctor will recommend that
you visit a psychologist for an evaluation. The psychologist is professionally trained
in human behavior and will be able to provide counseling and testing in areas related
to mental health. The psychologist is not able to prescribe medication to help you,
but may send you to a psychiatrist to prescribe and monitor medication. A neurologist
may be consulted in order to rule out neurological conditions causing your symptoms.

44. Grunge Design Essay
Grunge design is a recent aspect of postmodern design that has been influenced by
past movements historically and culturally. This essay will critically examine the
various historical and cultural ideas of grunge design portraiture analysing the
differences in the concepts and the technical aspects of design that grunge design has
and the past influences on them.
Grunge design started in 1990 s it is based on the essence of destruction similar to
the movement of punk which is where the Grunge movement came from. Grunge
was just seen as a way to experiment with the limits of legibility. (Page 372, Eskilson,
Graphic Design: A History, second edition, 2012). Which suggests why most
grunge inspired work has a disturbed look, as well as being textured and expressive,
the work tends to be very dark with if any subdued colours in the background , with
a main focal point in the image to give it a strong harsh oblique arrangement that
jumps out at the reader. When you look at a piece it looks like it was made quite
quickly because Grunge, like punk, was energetic, disrespectful, angry (or perhaps
just angry seeing) and subcultural in origin. (Page 63, Poynor, no more rules, Yale
University Press, 2003), This is because of the asthetic of grunge design, Grunge
designs have a messy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a clear representation of what punk portraiture is all about; rebellion,
defacing the queens portrait shows the audience that everything isn t to be taken so
seriously which is a very strong move when designing a piece of art work because
of the how much controversy would be involved when it is released. This is often
associated with the values of grunge design

47. Karen Mcgrane Challenges
We all come across challenges that might push us a few steps back, but we can
always figure out various ways to overcome those obstacles if we just think outside
the box and get creative with our work. A web designer by the name of Karen
McGrane, stumbled upon many challenges during her career, but the one that caught
my attention was learning to design around those annoying ads. Some of the methods
she used to design around those ads were by asking to customize text placements,
creating her grid around ads, and thinking differently about her placements. She
wanted to inform why user experience designers should open their hearts to
advertising as a revenue model, and find ways to meet the needs of both users and
advertisers. (McGrane, 2009).
Before the banner died, (McGrane, 2009) Karen, would customize her text
placements in order to work towards solving her problems with ads on the internet. If

Now, when knowing the placement of where an ad was placed, Karen McGrane
was able to build websites that went around these ads to still create something
great. With advertisers getting smarter and smarter on where they placed their ads,
it was time for the web designers to start upping their game as well. Back in the
day, it use to be that the banner was either placed at the top of a web page or the
bottom of a web page, but as you can see times have certainly changed. You can see
ads in various positions on websites now a days and even get those aggravating pop
ups! I learned that you should always package your unit as a sponsorship,
(McGrane,2009) since advertisements like to make it seem as if your work was
brought to you by them. I am actually curious to see how the smart the web will get
in years to come. Computer softwares are steadily changing and being generated,
therefore, there is no telling what the future holds for the web industry, but it is

Bacterial Meningitis
Meningitis, or spinal meningitis, is an inflammation of the fluid and membranes
surrounding the spinal cord and brain. Bacterial meningitis is meningitis caused by a
bacterial infection. This condition can lead to long term complications, such as
seizures, hearing loss, weakness, paralysis, blindness, or cognitive impairment.
CAUSES
This condition is caused by bacteria that reach the membranes covering the brain. The
bacteria may first enter the bloodstream and travel to the brain or they may reach the
brain directly through the nasal cavity or through an open wound in the skull.
RISK FACTORS
This condition is more likely to develop in:

52. Symbolic Interactionism, By Herbert Mead And Charles...
Symbolic interactionism is one of the four major theoretical perspectives in
sociology. It is particularly influential in microsociology, which makes this view of
social behavior unique from the other three major perspectives that focus on large
scale social organizations (Buccieri, September 11 2014). I believe symbolic
interactionismis the most appropriate method for studying sociologybased on my
experience with a brother with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The theory of socialization
within symbolic interactionism places importance on the internalized definitions,
interpretations and meanings of our social interactions (Tepperman, Albanese Curtis,
2013, p. 55). This concept applies to how I understand and interpret the human
behaviour of my brother, through communication and meaningful symbols.
Symbolic Interactionism as the Most Appropriate Method Symbolic interactionism as
a term was coined by Herbert Blumer to further develop the theories of George
Herbert Mead and Charles Horton Cooley. This perspective gives priority to the
importance of understanding the meanings of social action. This framework works
with the belief that human social behaviour is based on symbolic meanings that are
found within a given situation (Tepperman et al., 2013 p.369). Symbolic
interactionism, being a form of microsociology, focuses attention on the smallest
systems of society, being individual people and their interaction. Symbolic
interactionists, like all microsociologists, see society
53. Escape In Romantic Poetry
Repression and the Desire to Escape in Romantic Poetry
Romantic poetry encompasses many things, involving, but not limited to; nature, the
sublime, and strong senses of emotion. Many of the romantic poets wrote about
nature, and how nature strongly relates to that sense of emotion. Of course when you
lack emotion, or you are struck with many negative emotions, romantic poetry shows
that nature itself is the remedy that you may require. Not only does romantic poetry
show that nature can cure, but it shows that an escape to nature is required in order to
understand it, and receive the cure that you seek. It shows that you must abandon
your past struggles, and learn to embrace nature. This begs the question; how does
romantic poetry attempt to show that nature is the cure to the issues that you
currently face? Many of the romantic poets attempt to show that through an escape to
nature, you are able to become enlightened. William Wordsworth s The Ruined
Cottage exhibits a woman (Margaret) who is surrounded by romantics, which is used
to contrast that which are her struggles, and her lack of romanticism. This essay will
look at the desire to escape the struggles that the characters are facing through a
romantic escape to nature. It will display how Wordsworth s The Ruined Cottage
conveys a message of escapism to nature as a cure to hardship through a character
that fails to escape, as well as how John Keats Ode to a Nightingale shows a
character who succeeds with
54. Competitive Behaviors And Practices, By Cathy Davidson,...
Ever since a young age, the youth of the United States are taught that they must
strive to be the best they can be. This would ultimately result in one possessing a
competitive edge, once one enters the selection process of joining one of many
higher institutions of education or the job market. In the essays Project Classroom
Makeover, Biographies of Hegemony, and Rent Seeking and the Making of an
Unequal Society, respectfully by, Cathy Davidson, Karen Ho, and Joseph Stiglitz, the
topic of competitive behaviors and practices is widely addressed and heavily
criticized. Educationis competitive, yet bias. Institutions of higher educationvalue
students based irrelevant factors, something which is unacceptable in the modern,
digital age. This heavily impacts the selection process of candidates, leading the
system to favor unqualified individuals. Prevalent business superpowers, many
residing in Wall Street, pick low hanging fruit. In other words, these firms take very
minimal effort to choose candidates in positions that are extremely competitive and
valuable. They recruit individuals who graduate from top schools and have no other
realistic edge for the company, aside from namesake. Woven into these practices,
many examples of uncompetitive behavior arise as well from other factors of the
system. In this essay, I argue that competitive and uncompetitive behaviors have
molded modern America, with massive organizations and authorities playing into
these behaviors from all
