order to represent opposed forces or ideas that are central to the entirety of the work. This journey
back in time, to a prehistoric earth illustrates Marlow s physical journey as well as relates to his
emotional and spiritual experience. Marlow characterizes events, ideas, and locations that he
encounters in terms of light or darkness. Marlow continuously equates light with knowledge and
civility and darkness with mystery and savagery. When he begins his narrative, Marlow evokes light
and, therefore, civility, with reality, believing it to be a tangible expression of man s natural state.
Similarly, Marlow uses darkness to depict savagery as a vice having escaped with nature. However, as
he proceeds deeper into the heart of the African jungle and begins to understand savagery as a

Opening day isn t even here yet, and already we have enough controversy to last us the whole season.
At a time when we d much rather be thinking about the smell of fresh cut grass, hot dogs and pennant
dreams, we re forced to deal with a far darker issue. Now more than ever, there is alarming suspicion
concerning apparent steroid drug use in Major League Baseball. As an avid baseball watcher and
player of the game for twelve years this scandal is of great concern to me. In the time to come I will be

Secondly, using steroids has unfairly helped players smash records, making them huge stars. One of
the biggest records broken was the single season home run record, by Mark
Mcguire. Although he has not been accused of using steroids, he did admit to using a non steroid

Can a machine made by intelligent minds have an intelligent mind of its own? This was the question
that was being asked in the 1950s. A man by the name of Alan Turing decided to venture out and
analyze this question for himself by coming up with a thought experiment in which he called the
imitation game. This is a game that involves three players. One of each gender and one who plays the

For example if we were to turn our attention to the animal kingdom and look at chimpanzees, few
people would deny the notion that chimpanzees can think, but chimpanzees can t pass the Turing Test.
If we were to look at dogs, we can see that they are intelligent by being emotionally there for their
owners and being able to learn a myriad of different tricks, but they can t pass the Turing Test. Using
