The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Iliad
The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Iliad are two extremely different stories, The Iliad being a tale of war
(specifically the Trojan War) while the Epic of Gilgamesh is a true Epic in the sense that it is a
journey, all about the development of the characters. While there are many different themes
throughout both books, one of the most important themes is the way that friendship develops both of
the people involved and the way that it ties into the story overall. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu
and Gilgamesh start off as polar opposites while in the Iliad, Achilles and Patroclus are great friends
from the very beginning. In each of the stories, one of the friends dies and it leaves a permanent mark
on the other that changes his behavior in a way that sets the stage for the rest of the story. However, I
think that the greater change of the two happens in Achilles since the death of his friend leads him to
completely change character, from the man who allows his friend to take his place while he cowers in
fear to the man who leads the charge that wins the war. Gilgamesh on the other hand, continues the
journey that he and Enkidu started but even until the end he struggles with his selfish nature. Prior to
Enkidu and Patroclus their deaths, the friendships in each of the stories already have a profound effect
on Gilgamesh and Achilles. At the beginning of the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is a tyrannical ruler
in the land of Uruk. At the beginning of the story, we learn that he two

Preparations. 4.3.2.1 Slide Culture Preparations In order to accurately identify many fungi it is
essential to observe the precise arrangement of the conidiophores and the way in which spores are
produced (conidial ontogeny). One plate of nutrient agar commonly potato dextrose is recommended,
however, I used nutrient agar as typical usage. Firstly, cut out an agar block (7 x 7 mm) small enough
using a sterile blade to fit under a coverslip. Using a sterile straw to make a circle out of the fresh agar
and fit under a glass slide. Flip the block up onto the new fresh plate and inoculate the four sides of
the agar block with spores or mycelial fragments of the fungus to be grown. Place a flamed coverslip
centrally upon the agar block then incubate the plate at 26oC ... Show more content on

also dissolves the adhesive glue holding the flag to the applicator stick. Place the flag onto a small

Sexual Education. Sexual Education Has Always Been An...
Sexual Education Sexual education has always been an extremely heated topic among parents,
teachers, lawmakers, and everyone in between. It has led to several court cases, new rules and laws,
and different and very creative ways of teaching sexual intercourse and the potential repercussions to
preteens and teens. Most students probably started talking about sex on the playground or while they
were hanging out with friends well before they should have been speaking about it. In today s society,
sex is easily attainable through the internet. Mass media is the number one contributor to literally
anything you want to know, watch, and learn about sex. Throughout the semester, we have learned
many different ways to teach, controversial court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Europe, educators contemplated bringing sex education to the classrooms as early as the late 19th
century. In America, schools first began to implement sex education in the mid 1920s. In a book that
talks about the social, political, and local goals of schooling, the author states, Originally sex
education was promoted in 1926 by the National Education Association s committee on Character
Education as a means of combatting the decline of the family and regulating sexual impulses for the
good of society (Moral Values and Sex Education). In other words, schools wanted to teach students
how to control their sex drive, but almost increase in making families. In my opinion, I don t think that
makes much sense. Sex education is just as controversial in other countries as it is in the United
States. Fascists in Italy and Germany thought Marxists were the ones that thought of this type of
education. Several parents told their children they came from Santa Clause, the gooseberry tree, and
even fished out of the river. Although a lot of open minded, progressive countries thought sex was too
contentious of a subject to be taught in schools, many of the citizens did not want to be the ones that
had to teach their children about the birds and the bees. Joseph Zimmerman who wrote about the
global history of sex education stated, It was left to the schools and teachers to help dispel any cultural
myths surrounding sex (Zimmerman). In America, when teachers

Graduate School Admission Essay Sample
No one in my immediate family has ever even had the good fortune to apply to a graduate school, but
I have always contemplated going to graduate school even before I began my undergraduate career.
That is the kind of person I am always strategizing my next plan of action. More importantly, I have
always understood the importance of having a master s degree. While I have always had my heart set
on attending graduate school, I was previously unsure about the specifics of how I would earn my
master s degree. Now I am confident that getting a Master of Health Administration from Johns
Hopkins University would help me accomplish much more than simply my career goals.
There are 3 fundamental reasons why I am applying to this program. First, this program would help
me achieve my career goal. I have taken a keen interest in healthcare consulting and I would
appreciate a job at a company like McKinsey, Deloitte, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Healthcare

By the time I graduate I will have been a part of the Zhu lab for 2 years. At the Zhu lab, I have been
assigned to numerous projects, but the one that stands out is Drug Transporter Mediated Drug Drug
Interaction between Metformin and LCZ696 . I was involved in every part of this project; my
colleagues and I designed this experiment, conducted it, troubleshot it, analyzed the results, and even
presented our findings at a symposium. The project used techniques like mass spectroscopy, high
perfromance liquid chromatography, and tissue cultures to observe the drug drug interaction. While
there were numerous obstacles because I had never participated in a project like this, and there were
times when the experiment was not working and we had to troubleshoot the problem, at the end of the

Islamic Observation Paper
For this ritual project, I decided to observe the ritual of going to mosque and performing their prayers.
The reason I decided to choose an Islamic practice for this project was in part because of the recent
increase in Islamophobia both in the States and in Canada. I was also very interested to maybe observe
some of the differences and similarities in Islamic practices compared to Christian practices as I have
grown up in a very traditional Christian (Pentecostal) household and have never really had the
opportunity to experience, first hand, a religious ceremony foreign to my own. Additionally, when
going to the mosque for this ritual, I had my best friend, Kimia, come with me as she grew up in a
Muslim household and has attended mosque ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regarding performativity, the first thing in this ritual that I both observed and had to take part in was
the wearing of the scarf over my head. This could be seen as a costume required by this ritual which
was followed by only the women. There were also specific musical cues spoken that indicated what
position had to be assumed and when. In terms of performativity, this could possibly be referred to as
a performative speech act if the words have the power to change something in the current state. There
was almost a role that was taken on by all the people engaging in the ritual. As soon as they walked in
the room, and even after the ritual was over, there was a sense of solemnness and reverence that
people exhibited while in that space. When it comes to liminality, this whole ritual exhibited a process
that could be categorized under the three stages of liminality; separation, transition and incorporation.
From the very beginning the ritual began with two distinct forms of separation. As we entered the
building we were separating ourselves from society and entering a space in which people of a shared
community came to participate in a ritual. Not only were we separated from society by entering the
building, but we were also separated from the men that were a part of this ritual. Additionally, this
stage of separation was also seen and experienced physically through the process of putting on the
scarf on our heads. This scarf magnified the weight of the separation of sexes because now there was a
tangible marker of what we signified in this process. While the men resided in a larger room, the
women were kept in a much smaller room in the back. The process of transition is a bit harder to
solidify because there does not seem to be a set point in the ritual where a profound change occurs, but
rather the process of the movements itself works together as part of

The term a good man or a good woman in the story means to be someone that The grandmother
believes to have the same values and beliefs that she had in her younger years. She refers to Red

KFC Distribution Strategy
Distribution strategies of KFC China
KFC, a fast food restaurant brand originated from USA has become the largest foreign fast food
restaurant in China. According to the research, there are more than 4600 KFC restaurants in 500
different cities in China in the year 2014 which is much more than McDonald s 1000 restaurants.
(KFC China official) KFC China is held in a high repute and it has a positive impression by the
Chinese customers and the main reason KFC China can become such successful is the moderate,
sagacious distribution strategies they have.
KFC China had begun to expand their outlets to the second and third tier cities in China because of the
rapid development of China s economy. The growth rate of China s GDP (gross domestic product) is
above 7% per year in the past ten years and the income level is also increasing steadily. (National

The main limitation is their costumer s feeling and impression about KFC. What KFC China ought to
do is to research for is the local s citizens favor and their economic capability. There will be no
customers if there isn t suitable menu. They will go to their local restaurant instead of this new foreign
restaurant. Another concept they have to consider is the economic capability in different regions. The
research says the average consumption per person is about 20 Yuan in China.(BBC) Its normal in the
metropolitan but it might be a bit high for some second or third tier cities in the situation that there
revenue per day is only around 50 Yuan. The location for the restaurant is also an important factor for
the profit directly. Where the location is, is it available or not, what s the rent or price of it are all the
limitations and problems that KFC China have to discuss

In Tokyo, 50% of their hospitals were in financial deficit. Hospitals and doctors in Germany are found

Taiwan are thought to be two countries who don t spend enough on their healthcare system, leaving it
in jeopardy financially. Another challenge these countries face is what price to put on their healthcare.
The countries that do require premiums struggle to find the appropriate monthly premiums to charge (

well being of their citizens is the main concern of the government. These countries want each citizen
to have healthcare because they genuinely care about them and they want to see them live long and

Things That Make Friendships Last a Lifetime
There is a type bond that is made between a set people who want to go farther than being just
acquaintances. A healthy friendship contains respect, people who respect each other by means of equal
fashion. Friends should often care about the well being of the other person. Many friendships also
include acts, whether they are acts of kindness that work towards the best interest of the other without
requiring materialistic items in return. A healthy friendship also contains honesty.
An act of kindness between friends can be seen when a young man who recently broke up with the
girlfriend he was living with at that time and had nowhere else to go. The man s one buddy, who
ended up discovering that his friend was on the verge of being homeless decided to go over and help
him move out of his house into his house. The man s friend did not offer his assistance in the matter
because he was asked but rather because it was the right thing to do at the time. He never asked for
anything in return because he was helping a friend and it s the correct thing to do when you or
someone you know needs help the most. Another example of this type of occurrence is when you are
walking down the street and you take notice to somebody struggling carrying something, you out of
common courtesy ask if they need help. They may not always take it but they will appreciate the
thought. As humans, some of us

Persuasive Essay On The Good Life
The Good Life What is the good life? my friend asked me in a feeble attempt to produce ideas for his
Philosophy paper. Aside from the obvious answer of using material items to generate happiness, the
question drove me consider what made someone s life inherently good. A few days after our
conversation, I read Open Door by Rebecca Solnit. This passage helped me to eventually answer his
question. Throughout Open Door, Solnit defines, exemplifies and reasons, and explores the ideas of
losing one s self in order to achieve the good life. Understanding what it means to lose one s self is
imperative in order to comprehend the rest of this passage. The idea of losing yourself is, a voluptuous
surrender, lost in your arms, lost to the world, utterly immersed in what is present so that its
surroundings fade away (Solnit 16). Taking part in losing yourself will allow you to find answers to
what is unknown to you. The journey to the unknown and the unknown itself are transformative;
however, many individuals do not care for the unknown or are unaware of it. Those who do not care
for the unknown typically fear for what it will bring. In today s society, adults restrict their children to
playing indoors rather than developing an adventurous and imaginative persona outside of the house,
for they believe their children will hurt themselves. Solnit expresses her concern for this generation by
wondering what will come of placing this generation under house arrest (Solnit 7). She

Margot Heinemann s Characteristics In King Lear
William Shakespeare s King Lear is the tragic story of a king s descent from power as the life that he
had once had crumbles before him. It is a story that relies heavily on the relationships between its
characters and how they change. Lear is slowly driven insane throughout the course of the play as he
unintentionally rids himself of the positive relationships while relying upon negative ones. However, it
is Margot Heinemann s argument that the play not only relies on interpersonal drama, but also the
politics of England in her essay, Demystifying the Mystery of the State : King Lear and the World
Upside Down . In her essay, Heinemann provides an in depth analysis of how the politics of England

Edgar fearlessly challenges his brother at the end of the play, telling him to draw his sword and

reader is surprised to see Edgar reaching this position because he had fallen so far. He was originally
in the good graces of his father, but then he had to go into hiding and act like a crazy beggar because
his father wanted him dead. He then transforms from a crazy beggar to a noble swordsman for the end
of the play so that he can defeat his brother in an attempt to save those who are in danger. This scene
is incredibly powerful to the reader because of the Upside Down World effect which is caused by
Edgar s resolution to not give up on England and to save those who are important to

The Treaty Of The European Union
On Thursday, June 23rd, 2016, the United Kingdom invoked Article 50 of the Treaty of the European
Union and voted to whether or not to leave the European Union. This June 2016 referendum, which is
most commonly known as Brexit, had the largest voter turnout in the United Kingdom since the 1992
General Election, roughly 33.5 million voters. The referendum resulted fifty two percent in favor of
leaving the European Union. The separation process is difficult. By just agreeing to the negotiations to
separate from the European Union, there has been significant political and economic impacts affecting
the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. The day following the vote that favored leaving the
European Union, the Pound, Britain s currency, went from $1.50 to $1.28, the lowest it s been in over
three decades (Kottasova). In an effort to not deal with the EU negotiations, David Cameron, the
United Kingdom s Prime Minister, resigned from his position on July 13th, effectively ending his six
year holding on the position. Brexit is an example of when nationalism and frustration mix together
and motivates a society to make a decision possible which was unforeseeable prior. It can be deduced
that the three contributing factors to the success of the Brexit vote are Economics, Nationalism, and
Political Elitism. Understanding the history of the relationships between the European Union, political

John Brown s actions were modern day terrorist acts with the Pottawatomie Creek Massacre and raid

His purposes to the attacks were unjustified, just unreasonable, ridiculous. It was no doubt for a good

Moments later an altercation occurred between Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin, which left Trayvon

The prosecution s theory of the case as they outlined in their opening statement was the Zimmerman

Programme Music
During the Romanic period, there were many advances in regards to instrumentation, and the size of a
typical orchestra increased in size and range, adding in more instruments to the wind, brass and
percussion sections. Symphonie Fantastique, by Hector Berlioz, was no exception, and was written for
an extensive orchestra of 220 players, including, piccolos, flutes, oboes, horns, clarinets, bassoons,
cornets, trumpets, trombones, tuba (or ophicleides), timpani, bells, a wide variety of percussion, bells,
violins, violas, cellos and double basses. Through this symphony, various instruments have
programmatic purposes to develop the scene, such as the pizzicato strings in the 4th movement,
representing the head bouncing after he was decapitated, and the clarinet in E flat and bassoons in the
5th movement, depicting bubbles rising in a cauldron.
Both movements 4 and 5 were through composed, featuring various musical fragments and themes.
Movement 4 features two key themes in addition to the idée fixe, whilst Movement 5 centred around 3
musical themes; the Beloved (Harriet), the Great Shout, and the Fearsome Crowd. An idée fixe is a

Billie Jo s Piano Playing In Out Of The Dust By Karen Hesse

Dust Bowl caused hardships that they had to experience and work through. I am going to explain how
Billie Jo s piano playing is tied to other good and bad things in hers and the families life. Her piano
playing is positive in the beginning, separated in the middle, and rediscovered in the end.

Mcmahan s Epistemic Limitations
I now turn my attention towards McMahan s general proposition concerning epistemic limitations in
regards to another aspect that is beyond an individual s control. He suggests that a soldier is
epistemically unjustified for accepting beliefs based on little evidence because it conforms to a
distorted ideology that they have of the world. He states that a unjust soldier that is acting ...based on
factual beliefs for which there is little or no evidence but that he accepts it uncritically because the
factual beliefs cohere well with the way his distorted ideology says that the world ...has little or no
epistemically‐based excuse for participating in his side s unjust war (McMahan 138). Once again, on
the surface, McMahan appears to have a sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will admit that this is a strong counter, as it is reasonable to claim that the soldier with distorted
views should both acknowledge that his racist views would conflict with his behavior during the war.
It is also reasonable to say that the soldier should attempt to resolve his conflict before going into an
unjust war. That being said, human beings, by nature, are creatures of habit. Just as it takes years for
us to develop our traits, we also develop behaviors and practices that stay with us for a prolonged
period of time, perhaps for the rest of our lives. Most of our views and practices are established at an
early age, so if you ve been practicing something for so long, it eventually becomes a part of your
belief system. It will be extremely difficult to abandon an idea that you have in your belief system. As
such we can see that these distorted ideologies, albeit not healthy or helpful in our relationships with
others over time, is extremely hard to permanently get rid

Patience In Macbeth
The seemingly lost virtue of patience happens to be one of the most important qualities to determine a
person s outcome in life. Both main characters in Macbeth and Thank You Ma am struggle to grasp
the importance of patience. However, the results of their flaws of this trait are immensely different.
The stories of Macbeth and Thank You Ma am have strikingly similar themes of needing patience,
despite the different eras in which they were written. In Macbeth, the main character, Macbeth, is
unable to resist the temptation of having the throne, but during this quest he becomes mentally insane.
Early on in the story, he hears of his prophecy to become king. The witches that tell him of this
prophecy say, All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His desire to steal the purse was driven by the strong want to buy blue suede shoes. This desire of the
shoes can be compared to Macbeth s desire of the throne. Both characters did evil deeds to reach their
ultimate goal. Roger, however, is unable to successfully steal the purse and learns an important lesson
through his failure. After Roger s failed attempt, the story explains the woman s initial actions, ... she
reached down, picked the boy up by his shirt front, and shook him until his teeth rattled (Hughes, 1).
This quote shows her aggressive behavior that masked her knowledgeable and caring personality.
Roger is made to go back to her house to clean up and have a meal. The theme of patience is learned
during his visit to her house, The woman did not watch the boy to see if he was going to run now, nor
did she watch her purse which she left behind her on the day bed. But the boy took care to sit on the
far side of the room where he thought she could easily see him out of the corner of her eye (Hughes,
3). This quote expresses the amount of respect and trust built by both Roger and the woman in this
short amount of time. She later explains to him that she understands his motive to steal as she has
done wrongful deeds as well. She finished her talk with him by saying, And next time, do not make

Zombies Classification Essay
A Zombie is defined as a reanimated corpse that has been turned into a creature capable of movement
but not of rational thought, which feeds on human flesh. For most, Zombies are a fictional part of
favorite tv shows or movies. Although there are many different types of zombies, most can be
categorized into three groups: Stereotypicals, Oldies, and Uniques. Stereotypical zombies are your
movie zombies. These include runners, stalkers, walkers, and herds. Runners are the fastest type of
zombies. They get the name Runners for a reason, because they can run. Walkers are zombies that
obviously walk. They aren t able to run, but can still move at a reasonable pace. Stalkers are zombies
that are not able to run, but move faster than walkers. They are your speed walkers, and go the speed
of someone skipping. A herd is a group of zombies that travel together. They are the stereotypical
group that takes over a camp or traps survivors. Herds consist of Runners, Walkers, and Stalkers. ...

The are less mobile and sometimes are not able to move at all. Oldies include Crawlers, Lurkers, and
Bonies. Crawlers are zombies who have lost legs or half their body. They are unable to move or move
very slowly by crawling on the ground. They are not as dangerous as stereotypicals, but can sneak up
on you if you are not careful. Lurkers are actually smart for being dead. They pretty much just sit and
wait, acting dead until someone comes near. Once someone approaches they bite them or try to. They
can be very dangerous due to their persona of being a corpse. Bonies are decomposed zombies who
are at their final straw. They pretty much do nothing unless you re dumb enough to just hand them
your flesh. They are probably the least dangerous zombie, but they have probably bit a few

Dilemmas In Montana 1948
In the novel Montana 1948, by Larry Watson, we witness this through the eyes of David a 12 year old
narrator, the sickness and death of his beloved caretaker Marie Little Soldier by the doing of his Uncle
Frank whom he has always looked up to. An important character central to the story is David s father
Wesley the sheriff of Bentrock who is brave, courageous, conflicted and, protective of his family. A
message Wesley helps us understand a thought provoking message that it is difficult to choose
between family and doing the right thing.

By having multiple roles in the community and being the Sheriff of Bentrock, it puts Wesley in an
even tougher position. Wesley is seen as a well respected member of the community, but during the
novel he becomes very conflicted with himself and has to face one of the biggest decisions of his life
when he has to chose between family or justice. He overcomes this conflict with himself by making
the right decision no matter what anyone else thinks or is trying to tell him. There is plenty of
description of Wesley at the beginning and through the novel. His conflict can be seen When he
challenges gail Are you telling me this because i m Frank s brother? Because i m your husband?
Because i m Marie employer? ... Or because i m the sheriff? . This shows us that he is not sure what to
believe anymore or what to do. Another time that we are shown Wesley s internal conflict is when he
locks Frank in the basement instead of taking him straight to the police. He knows that Wesley needs
consequences for his actions, but he is not sure how to do it, he just wants to do what s best for
everyone, but sometimes that isn t always possible. The technique of dialogue is used to show us the
conflict Wesley has with himself and the true battles that he has to be able to face justice. We are
shown all the barriers that he has to overcome and how this has shaped him into a person. Through the
aspect of Wesley s conflict, Watson has helped to understand the concept of how hard it actually is to
chose between family and the law, sometimes it is harder than we think to do the right

Write An Essay On Being A Minority
What does the word minority mean to me and tell a situation in which the actions of myself or of

There are many inequalities in our society based on race and ethnicity. Minority consists of group that
makes up then less than half the total population, and are treated differently based on their race and
ethnicity. Minorities are people of color, low income, and women. To be a minority means that you are
lefts with the jobs that no else wants, you have limited access to medical care, and are caught up with
stress which leads to bad addictions and poor eating habits. We have the belief that we all have an
equal opportunity in life including equal access to quality education. In schools where there is a larger
group of minorities usually get less funding for their school which does not help children reach their
full potential. Another issue that minorities encounter is that they are usually placed in the lower
paying jobs. The cost of education can be too much for a minority which usually leads them to have
lower paying jobs which stops them from pursuing a better future. I have also seen that minority
students are being underestimated because many believe they are not intelligent enough. Over the past

The Search for Inhabitable exoplanets
Throughout the history of humanity, numerous scientists have been intrigued by the search for
inhabitable exoplanets. To date, such ventures are still in the developmental stages and the discovery
of life beyond earth and the solar system , regardless of how primitive it may be, may soon be
regarded as a fundamental breakthrough in astronomy (Jones Mukai, 2007). The fundamental
properties to be considered if a place is habitable are: presence of organic materials, water and energy
sources. Habitability of the planet also takes into consideration, nearness of the planet to the sun, the

2011). The closest known exoplanet orbiting star is called Epislon Eridani, which is 63 trillion miles
away it is close to 14,000 times away from Neptune, the farthest planets in our solar system (Horner
Jones, 2010). Due to the great distance, exoplanets cannot be viewed directly since the amount of light
they reflect is too faint to be detected from a far off distance (Horner Jones, 2010). Alternatively,
scientists infer the presence of an exoplanet from the changes in wavelength of light illuminating from
the star, this may be caused by the gravitational pull from an orbiting planet or the regulation of
brightness of the star due to transiting planets. When Fermi Paradox was proposed initially, most
people thought planets were rare. Nevertheless, since then the astrological tools have discovered the
existence of numerous exoplanets. However, with each new discovery of an earth like planet for
instance Epislon Eridani, it becomes less likely that there could exist a planet apart from the Earth that
can support life. Using methods such as those stated above, scientists have been able to discover
hundreds of exoplanets and the first detection was in 1995. Once they detect one, they begin
evaluating it to ascertain whether it can support life. Further, they analyze the light spectrum that
radiates from the star in order to reveal the properties of the planet. The hunt is still on for planets,

New York Jets 2013 third round draft pick Brian Winters is set to become a free agent on March 9, and
it would be in general manager Mike Maccagnan s best interest to retain his services.
Despite struggling in his first two seasons as a Jet, in 2015, Todd Bowles decided to switch him from
left guard to right guard in which Winters blossomed.
Per Pro Football Focus, the 25 year old had a pass blocking efficiency of 99.4, tied for the best

Along with fellow guard James Carpenter, who also ranked high with an overall blocking grade of

Winters is one player that the Jets need to keep as he has turned into one of the top young offensive

him hitting free agency. As a consequence of Winters suffering a torn rotator cuff late in the 2016

Addressing the offensive line s needs is essential for the Jets if they wish to possess a potent offense

in turn help entrepreneurs to start up new business where risk is high without hesitation as fear of
failure is reduced with government and social culture support.
Since traditional large employers including the government and the old economy player may find it

Eight Interlocking Theoretical Concepts On Personality And...
Eight Interlocking Theoretical Concepts
Bowen s theory is influenced by eight interlocking theoretical concepts to explain the family unit s
emotional functioning (H. Goldenberg L. Goldenberg, 2013). The interlocking concepts explain the
process of emotions within the family system as they are developed throughout the generations
(Wineck, 2010). One must fully understand each concept individually in order to fully grasp the
impact within the family unit (H. Goldenberg L. Goldenberg, 2013). Concepts one through five were
Bowen s original theoretical viewpoints (Baege, 2006). According to Bowen (1976), his sixth concept
was rooted in Walter Toman s Family Constellation: It s Effect on Personality and Social Behavior
publication from 1961. In 1975, the final two concepts were developed and added to complete the
entire eight interlocking theoretical concepts (Bowen, 1976). Bowen never published or created any
work on a ninth concept; however, spirituality was mentioned as a possibility for a ninth concept.
Spirituality concept is an undeveloped concept with promise, particularly within the field of addiction
studies. Underneath every concept is the basic assumption that chronic anxiety prompts the
development of each concept premise (H. Goldenberg L. Goldenberg, 2013). These interlocking
constructs are known as differentiation of self, triangles, nuclear family emotional system, family
projection, process, emotional cutoff, multigenerational transmission process, sibling

When someone refers a tattoo by a body art, I know that they somewhat either have some themselves

Introduction. As One Looks Through Recent Histories Of
Introduction As one looks through recent histories of the media, it quickly becomes apparent that there
has been an influx of controversies regarding the freedom of the press. Considering the age of
America, and the state of current technology, it is understandable why it is now reaching such
discrepancies. In particular, the decisions leading up to the conviction of Theodore Kaczynski, known
as the Unabomber, is one of much dispute. By taking a closer look that this case s situation, values
applied, principles upheld, and loyalties owed, one might be able to have a clear understanding of
what ethical decisions should have been taken in regard to the media.

Combined, these two realizations opened up the door for much commentary by journalists. This
situation became apparent, and while the action of publication could not be taken back, there was still
significant discussion about the decision making process.
Values Applied Proceeding from understanding of the situation is a close examination of the values
associated with the case. As defined by Merriam Websters Dictionary, the word value is something (as
a principle or quality) intrinsically valuable or desirable, (Webster). In application to the case, values
can be seen by all three parties of interest(the public, the media, and the government). Clearly, the
public is concerned largely about safety and the overarching goal to bring the Kaczynski to justice.
Safety an be seen as the value of nonviolence which falls under the category of morals. While the
public can not be assured that Kaczynski will not continue his bomb making with the publication of
the manifesto, they can be reasonable assured that the bomb making will continue if it is not
published. To this end, they value the preservation of life. On the other hand, the media has a different
set of values. Both The Washington Post and The New York Times have the desire to be [independent]
from the government, [and] from hostile groups who make threats, (Christians 55). Both are

Another threat comes from smaller expeditions that are becoming increasingly common by individuals
and small parties. Antarctica requires careful planning and a series of fail safe rescue procedures if
anyone gets into difficulty. These smaller expeditions sometimes fail to do this adequately and resort
to humanitarian requests for aid from shipping or nearby national bases when they get into difficulty.
In recent years for example a small helicopter (totally unsuitable for the task) crashed into the sea off
the Antarctica Peninsula requiring rescue.
There have so far been no major pollution incidents or losses of life in Antarctica as a result of

Introduction to the Neighborhood Situated on the Monongahela River is the neighborhood of
Southside Flats. Within its boundaries is one of the entertainment hubs of Pittsburgh. The main
thoroughfare of E Carson St. is inhabited with bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. The early history of
the neighborhood saw it as a beacon of industry with its proximity to rivers and railways. At the end of
the nineteenth century, it would boast a steelworks factory that employed a sizable portion of the
Southside residents. Many of these residents were immigrants from Eastern Europe and brought many

in the article A Third World City in the First World : Social Exclusion, Racial Inequality, and
Sustainable Development in Baltimore by Mark Levine which addresses the issues of Baltimore in its
quest for more tourism but is hindered by its high crime rate. The plight of Baltimore is also
highlighted in the television program The Wire.
Summary of Demographic and Crime Profile When looking at the population numbers of Southside
Flats and Allegheny County, there are not many differences. The differences are that the neighborhood
has relatively few African Americans living within it (around 2.5%, while Allegheny County has 12%)
(U.S. Census 2000). This is likely due to the history the neighborhood has as a destination for people
of Eastern European descent, which would account for the over 95% of the neighborhood that is white
(U.S. Census Bureau). Another disparity that appears is the number of home owners. The census
information shows that 67% of residents in Allegheny County own their home; Southside Flats data
shows that homeownership is about 42% (U.S. Census Bureau 2000). The biggest difference comes in
median household income. The median income for residents of Southside Flats is just under $25,000,

thing, but they can no longer be on Wilton drive so, they put it on alternate things. Female: We used to
do all of this stuff in Hayden Park, but now Hayden Park is a whole different animal from what it was
back in the day when our children were growing up and we did these things. So, now they are done at
the elementary school or they are done at [inaudible] [01:17:58] park reserve, which have the people
in Wilton manors don t even know where it is. Marty: Right. Female: And we have a library that has
children s hour. Marty: Let me ask this. Female: Anyway, we have to get out of here. Marty: I have a
couple more minute of your time here, I said I got 90 minutes and we have about 8 minutes left. So,
are there any other obstacles, that you can envision, that would stand in the way of us achieving this

Advantages Of Gravel And Stone Mulch
Gravel and stone mulches can be very effective, especially in gardens where organic mulches would
be too expensive or impractical. They are generally better at retaining heat in cold climates, along with
keeping valuable moisture in the garden soil. The disadvantages of using stone based mulch is that it
is heavy and difficult to remove, can be quite costly, and usually requires professional assistance to
install the mulch in your garden. Here are a few tips on working with gravel or stone garden mulch.
Gravel and stone garden mulch: Advantages Gravel and stone garden mulch is used to help the soil
retain moisture and heat. If you live in a cold climate, stone mulch may work better to keep heat

Disease resistance of newer varieties is also often better than that found in their older counterparts.
There are good standard varieties that can not be ignored, however. A comparison of a favorite variety
with a new introduction is a worthwhile gardening experience. There is no test quite as meaningful as
a comparison in your own garden. As you plant a garden this season, most likely you have a supply of
seeds left from last year or even previous years. Whether to plant these seeds depends on both the type
of seeds and the way they have been stored. Seeds stored properly from last year may germinate well
in the garden this year. Most garden seeds may be kept for one to two years and still germinate well.
The ability to germinate drops off faster in some others. Among those with the shortest life are sweet
corn, okra, onion, parsley, parsnip and salsify. Although these seeds may germinate reasonably well
after one year, the germination rate and vigor is seldom adequate after two years. Among seeds with a
slightly longer life and good germination up to three years are bean, carrot, English pea and southern
pea. Most other vegetable seeds will germinate well up to their fourth or fifth year when kept in cool,
dry storage conditions. In a germination test, we may find that when testing a group of old seeds, a
large number of seed will germinate. Still, when seeds from this same group are planted into the
garden, germination is poor. As seeds age, they may still be viable, but lose vigor. When exposed to
the less favorable germination conditions outdoors, the weaker seedlings may not survive long enough
to emerge from the soil. When using old seeds, plant more thickly than recommended. This not only
helps to get rid of the old seed faster, but improves the chances for having an adequate stand of plants.
It is better to thin plants when germination is good rather than attempting

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Iliad The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Iliad are two extremely different stories, The Iliad being a tale of war (specifically the Trojan War) while the Epic of Gilgamesh is a true Epic in the sense that it is a journey, all about the development of the characters. While there are many different themes throughout both books, one of the most important themes is the way that friendship develops both of the people involved and the way that it ties into the story overall. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu and Gilgamesh start off as polar opposites while in the Iliad, Achilles and Patroclus are great friends from the very beginning. In each of the stories, one of the friends dies and it leaves a permanent mark on the other that changes his behavior in a way that sets the stage for the rest of the story. However, I think that the greater change of the two happens in Achilles since the death of his friend leads him to completely change character, from the man who allows his friend to take his place while he cowers in fear to the man who leads the charge that wins the war. Gilgamesh on the other hand, continues the journey that he and Enkidu started but even until the end he struggles with his selfish nature. Prior to Enkidu and Patroclus their deaths, the friendships in each of the stories already have a profound effect on Gilgamesh and Achilles. At the beginning of the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is a tyrannical ruler in the land of Uruk. At the beginning of the story, we learn that he two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One plate of nutrient agar commonly potato dextrose is recommended, however, I used nutrient agar as typical usage. Firstly, cut out an agar block (7 x 7 mm) small enough using a sterile blade to fit under a coverslip. Using a sterile straw to make a circle out of the fresh agar and fit under a glass slide. Flip the block up onto the new fresh plate and inoculate the four sides of the agar block with spores or mycelial fragments of the fungus to be grown. Sexual Education Sexual education has always been an extremely heated topic among parents, teachers, lawmakers, and everyone in between. It has led to several court cases, new rules and laws, and different and very creative ways of teaching sexual intercourse and the potential repercussions to preteens and teens. Most students probably started talking about sex on the playground or while they were hanging out with friends well before they should have been speaking about it. In Europe, educators contemplated bringing sex education to the classrooms as early as the late 19th century. In America, schools first began to implement sex education in the mid 1920s. In a book that talks about the social, political, and local goals of schooling, the author states, Originally sex education was promoted in 1926 by the National Education Association s committee on Character Education as a means of combatting the decline of the family and regulating sexual impulses for the good of society (Moral Values and Sex Education). In other words, schools wanted to teach students how to control their sex drive, but almost increase in making families. In my opinion, I don t think that makes much sense. Sex education is just as controversial in other countries as it is in the United States. Fascists in Italy and Germany thought Marxists were the ones that thought of this type of education. Several parents told their children they came from Santa Clause, the gooseberry tree, and even fished out of the river. Although a lot of open minded, progressive countries thought sex was too contentious of a subject to be taught in schools, many of the citizens did not want to be the ones that had to teach their children about the birds and the bees. Joseph Zimmerman who wrote about the global history of sex education stated, It was left to the schools and teachers to help dispel any cultural myths surrounding sex (Zimmerman). The reason I decided to choose an Islamic practice for this project was in part because of the recent increase in Islamophobia both in the States and in Canada. I was also very interested to maybe observe some of the differences and similarities in Islamic practices compared to Christian practices as I have grown up in a very traditional Christian (Pentecostal) household and have never really had the opportunity to experience, first hand, a religious ceremony foreign to my own. This could be seen as a costume required by this ritual which was followed by only the women. There were also specific musical cues spoken that indicated what position had to be assumed and when. In terms of performativity, this could possibly be referred to as a performative speech act if the words have the power to change something in the current state. There was almost a role that was taken on by all the people engaging in the ritual. As soon as they walked in the room, and even after the ritual was over, there was a sense of solemnness and reverence that people exhibited while in that space. When it comes to liminality, this whole ritual exhibited a process that could be categorized under the three stages of liminality; separation, transition and incorporation. From the very beginning the ritual began with two distinct forms of separation. As we entered the building we were separating ourselves from society and entering a space in which people of a shared community came to participate in a ritual. Not only were we separated from society by entering the building, but we were also separated from the men that were a part of this ritual. Additionally, this stage of separation was also seen and experienced physically through the process of putting on the scarf on our heads. This scarf magnified the weight of the separation of sexes because now there was a tangible marker of what we signified in this process. While the men resided in a larger room, the women were kept in a much smaller room in the back. The process of transition is a bit harder to solidify because there does not seem to be a set point in the ritual where a profound change occurs, but rather the process of the movements itself works together as part of ... Many friendships also include acts, whether they are acts of kindness that work towards the best interest of the other without requiring materialistic items in return. Aside from the obvious answer of using material items to generate happiness, the question drove me consider what made someone s life inherently good. A few days after our conversation, I read Open Door by Rebecca Solnit. This passage helped me to eventually answer his question. Throughout Open Door, Solnit defines, exemplifies and reasons, and explores the ideas of losing one s self in order to achieve the good life. Understanding what it means to lose one s self is imperative in order to comprehend the rest of this passage. The idea of losing yourself is, a voluptuous surrender, lost in your arms, lost to the world, utterly immersed in what is present so that its surroundings fade away (Solnit 16). Taking part in losing yourself will allow you to find answers to what is unknown to you. The journey to the unknown and the unknown itself are transformative; however, many individuals do not care for the unknown or are unaware of it. Those who do not care for the unknown typically fear for what it will bring. In today s society, adults restrict their children to playing indoors rather than developing an adventurous and imaginative persona outside of the house, for they believe their children will hurt themselves. This June 2016 referendum, which is most commonly known as Brexit, had the largest voter turnout in the United Kingdom since the 1992 General Election, roughly 33.5 million voters. The referendum resulted fifty two percent in favor of leaving the European Union. The separation process is difficult. By just agreeing to the negotiations to separate from the European Union, there has been significant political and economic impacts affecting the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. Although there are many different types of zombies, most can be categorized into three groups: Stereotypicals, Oldies, and Uniques. Stereotypical zombies are your movie zombies. These include runners, stalkers, walkers, and herds. Runners are the fastest type of zombies. They get the name Runners for a reason, because they can run. Walkers are zombies that obviously walk. They aren t able to run, but can still move at a reasonable pace. Stalkers are zombies that are not able to run, but move faster than walkers. They pretty much just sit and wait, acting dead until someone comes near. Once someone approaches they bite them or try to. They can be very dangerous due to their persona of being a corpse. Bonies are decomposed zombies who are at their final straw. They pretty much do nothing unless you re dumb enough to just hand them your flesh. He overcomes this conflict with himself by making the right decision no matter what anyone else thinks or is trying to tell him. There is plenty of description of Wesley at the beginning and through the novel. His conflict can be seen When he challenges gail Are you telling me this because i m Frank s brother? Because i m your husband? Because i m Marie employer? ... Or because i m the sheriff? . This shows us that he is not sure what to believe anymore or what to do. Another time that we are shown Wesley s internal conflict is when he locks Frank in the basement instead of taking him straight to the police. He knows that Wesley needs consequences for his actions, but he is not sure how to do it, he just wants to do what s best for everyone, but sometimes that isn t always possible. The technique of dialogue is used to show us the conflict Wesley has with himself and the true battles that he has to be able to face justice. Minority consists of group that makes up then less than half the total population, and are treated differently based on their race and ethnicity. Minorities are people of color, low income, and women. To be a minority means that you are lefts with the jobs that no else wants, you have limited access to medical care, and are caught up with stress which leads to bad addictions and poor eating habits. The closest known exoplanet orbiting star is called Epislon Eridani, which is 63 trillion miles away it is close to 14,000 times away from Neptune, the farthest planets in our solar system (Horner Jones, 2010). Due to the great distance, exoplanets cannot be viewed directly since the amount of light they reflect is too faint to be detected from a far off distance (Horner Jones, 2010). Alternatively, scientists infer the presence of an exoplanet from the changes in wavelength of light illuminating from the star, this may be caused by the gravitational pull from an orbiting planet or the regulation of brightness of the star due to transiting planets. When Fermi Paradox was proposed initially, most people thought planets were rare. Nevertheless, since then the astrological tools have discovered the existence of numerous exoplanets. However, with each new discovery of an earth like planet for instance Epislon Eridani, it becomes less likely that there could exist a planet apart from the Earth that can support life. Using methods such as those stated above, scientists have been able to discover hundreds of exoplanets and the first detection was in 1995. Once they detect one, they begin evaluating it to ascertain whether it can support life. Further, they analyze the light spectrum that radiates from the star in order to reveal the properties of the planet. Eight Interlocking Theoretical Concepts Bowen s theory is influenced by eight interlocking theoretical concepts to explain the family unit s emotional functioning (H. Goldenberg L. Goldenberg, 2013). The interlocking concepts explain the process of emotions within the family system as they are developed throughout the generations (Wineck, 2010). One must fully understand each concept individually in order to fully grasp the impact within the family unit (H. Goldenberg L. Goldenberg, 2013). Concepts one through five were Bowen s original theoretical viewpoints (Baege, 2006). According to Bowen (1976), his sixth concept was rooted in Walter Toman s Family Constellation: It s Effect on Personality and Social Behavior publication from 1961. In 1975, the final two concepts were developed and added to complete the entire eight interlocking theoretical concepts (Bowen, 1976). Bowen never published or created any work on a ninth concept; however, spirituality was mentioned as a possibility for a ninth concept. A comparison of a favorite variety with a new introduction is a worthwhile gardening experience. There is no test quite as meaningful as a comparison in your own garden. As you plant a garden this season, most likely you have a supply of seeds left from last year or even previous years. Whether to plant these seeds depends on both the type of seeds and the way they have been stored. Seeds stored properly from last year may germinate well in the garden this year. Most garden seeds may be kept for one to two years and still germinate well. The ability to germinate drops off faster in some others. Among those with the shortest life are sweet corn, okra, onion, parsley, parsnip and salsify. Although these seeds may germinate reasonably well after one year, the germination rate and vigor is seldom adequate after two years. Among seeds with a slightly longer life and good germination up to three years are bean, carrot, English pea and southern pea. Most other vegetable seeds will germinate well up to their fourth or fifth year when kept in cool, dry storage conditions. In a germination test, we may find that when testing a group of old seeds, a large number of seed will germinate. Still, when seeds from this same group are planted into the garden, germination is poor. As seeds age, they may still be viable, but lose vigor. When exposed to the less favorable germination conditions outdoors, the weaker seedlings may not survive long enough to emerge from the soil.
