The Economic And Social Welfare Of The Indian Ocean
1. This project is set up in Sri Lanka which is an island nation and in the Indian Ocean located in the
southern part of the Indian subcontinent. The project mainly focuses on Colombo where the
commercial capital of Sri Lanka is. According to the Global Challenges in Engineering (Baillie
Armstrong, 2016), the population of Colombo was 5.36 million in 2002. Benefit from the open market
policy published by new government, the economic condition was improved significantly. The
population of Colombo increased dramatically, too. But at the same time, large number of lower class
people in Colombo and increasing waste disposal are the problems that Colombo Municipal Council
has to face with. Waste collectors are such a group of people who are identified as lower class and
taking main part jobs of waste recycling in Colombo because of poor regulation and supervision of
waste disposal and waste recycling system. Our project aims to better the economic and social welfare
of waste collectors of Colombo through better waste management, or in other words, to improve the
living standard and efficiency of the waste collectors in the informal waste sector. The ideal result of
this project is to provide them with better living standards, higher income levels, a more efficient
method of recycling waste, and finally to reduce the waste by our design and teamwork
2.1 As mention above, the project locates on Colombo, the economic center and the biggest city of Sri
Lanka. It is a coastal

Barbaric Nomads Analysis
There are many ancient sources stating that the Huns themselves were barbaric nomads. Ammianus
Marcellinus, a Roman writer states in the History of Rome, that The nation of the Huns surpasses all
other barbarians in wildness of life... They fight in no regular order of battle... It must be owned that
they are the most terrible of warriors because they fight at a distance with missile weapons having
sharpened bones admirably fastened to the shaft. When in close combat with swords, they fight
without regard to their own safety . Marcellinus sees how the Huns fighting style is completely
different to that of the Romans and therefore finds it to be extremely terrible. The exaggerated
language and bias of this piece is clear and as a Roman writer, ... Show more content on

For example, Jordanes, a 6th Century Roman bureaucrat, describes how [Attila] was indeed a lover of
war, yet restrained in action; mighty in counsel, gracious to suppliants, and lenient to those who were
once received under his protection . Furthermore, Attila refused to be seduced by wealth as Priscus
explains how Attila ate nothing but meat on a wooden trencher... his cup was of wood, while to the
guests were given goblets of gold and silver. His dress, too, was quite simple, affecting only to be
clean. The sword he carried at his side, the latchets of his Scythian shoes, and the bridle of his horse
were not adorned, like those of the other Scythians, with gold or gems or anything costly . Both of
these accounts document how humble Attila could be, Huns valued gold, and would often brag about
their wealth, but, as these two accounts document, Attila acted modestly about his wealth.
Furthermore, Priscus observed Attila with his son and noted a tenderness, as he wrote: He drew him
close... and gazed at him with gentle eyes . As Roman writers Priscus and Jordanes gain nothing by
writing positively about Attila, and therefore we can assume that these accounts are fairly

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
Radio Frequency Identification Radio frequency identification (RFID) can be loosely linked all the
way back to WW2 as a method of tracking allied planes versus enemy fighters during aerial combat
(Roberti, 2005). In the PBSC class MAN4504, this technology was worshiped as a way to ring up an
entire cart of groceries with one simple hovering swipe over top of all the merchandise contained
within the cart. However, control freak school officials have recently gotten the idea that the RFID
system might be amply used as a way to keep track of students. But, the problem with this somewhat
big brotherish type of philosophy is that it can, indeed, be construed as an invasion of privacy. If one

The City-Soul Dichotomy In Plato s Republic
In the Republic, the city soul analogy serves as the starting point from which Plato builds the dialogue,
and its implications phantasmically loom in the background of the work s political and philosophical
deliberations. At the end of Republic II, Socrates, in an effort to impugn Thrasymachus commendation
of injustice, asserts that a just soul and a just man will live well, and an unjust one badly. (Republic
353e) Socrates therefore believes that the just live better lives than those who are unjust, and to
demonstrate this to his main interlocutors he considers a city in which justice is applied. Socrates
general approach is to draw out the fundamental concept of political justice, and, through the vehicle
of the city soul analogy, relate this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this is found in Republic IV as the soul is proven to be partitioned into three
independent components: reason, spirit, and appetite, all of which have direct counterparts in the class
structure of Socrates city. The analogy s significance is also showcased in Republic VII, as an accurate
depiction of justice s intrinsic value in the individual is derived through the interlocutor s investigation
of the conventions in Socrates city. Justice is ultimately found to possess universal qualities, one of
which includes being a product of the pursuit of the form of the good. Further consistencies between
the city and soul are evinced by Republic VIII and IX where Socrates finds equivalence among the
specific dynamics of various political systems and natural constitutions of the soul. With these
examples in mind, we must turn to the text of the Republic in order to gain a more comprehensive
understanding of the message Socrates was seeking to communicate through his analogy of city and

Hurricanes And Tornadoes
Tornadoes and Hurricanes
For a start, much damage comes from hurricanes and tornadoes, but they cause tons of damage like
lifting up a house or picking up other things that are super heavy you wouldn t imagine. A tornado and
a hurricane can reach up to 5 wind speeds or 6EFs causing a house to lift up just leaving the pavement.
That s very serious and strong for a storm. These two types of storms have interesting elements, like
how much it takes to repair, how many of these storms hit each year, and the variety of sizes the
tornadoes get up to. These two types of storms are very interesting to learn about and you might want
to know a few things about them.
Beginning, I have been in a tornado and it wasn t fun, it was very scary. Firstly, tornadoes and
hurricanes cost over millions of dollars to repair for a house or a garage. A hurricane can cost up to 15
billion dollars to put into repair and tornadoes can cost up to 500 million. Secondly, according to
Hurricanes in the U.S, hurricanes killed over 1000 people and roughly 100 billion dollars in damage.
In Hurricanes in the U.S over 1000 people in 2005 were killed and over 100 billion dollars to repair in
damage. Next, tornadoes are very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

interesting facts about hurricanes and tornadoes are that they can be up to 500 miles wide and nine

Abstract. The Free Radical Chlorination Of 1-Chlorobutane
Abstract
The free radical chlorination of 1 chlorobutane resulted in a mixture of at least 4 different possible
products from the reaction. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry helped in figuring out which of
the products are most abundant in the sample product created as well as in discovering the ratio of
relative reactivities of the hydrogens. This experiment showed that the ratio of relative reactivities was
found to be 1.0 : 3.5 : 6.2 : 2.4, which indicates that the secondary hydrogens are more reactive than
the primary hydrogens and that reactivity further increases the further away the hydrogen is from the
chlorine on the 1 chlorobutane. The results agree with the conjecture that the primary hydrogens are
less reactive than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radicals are further formed in the propagation step, and are combined during the termination step.
Since any of the radicals can combine in the termination step, a radical initiated reaction can produce a
mixture of products.3 The purpose of this experiment is to obtain a mixture of isomeric
dichlorobutane in order to discover the relative reactivities of 1 chlorobutane through radical initiated
chlorination. Instead of heat or light, the initiator used in the experiment is 2,2 azobis (2
methylpropionitrile).4 Identification of the products obtained in the experiment was done through the
analysis of data from mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, and physical properties (e.g. boiling
point and molecular weight).
Experimental
In a 25 mL round bottom flask, 1 chlorobutane (5 mL, 4.32 g, 0.046 mol), sulfuryl chloride (1.6 mL,
2.7 g, 0.02 mol), 2,2 azobis (2 methylpropionitrile) (0.03 g), and a boiling chip were added. After a
condenser and gas trap were attached to the flask, the mixture was heated to a gentle reflux in a steam
bath for 20 min. The flask was then allowed to cool down quickly in an ice bath for a short time
before a second portion of the 2,2 azobis (2 methylpropionitrile) (0.03 g) was added to the flask. The
mixture was refluxed for another 10 min. before the flask was cooled in a beaker of water. The
reaction mixture was then poured into a small separatory funnel already filled with water (10 mL),

company should report earnings so that they would appear to have met earning estimates for the 2010
financial year. The CFO, Terry Reed, was concerned with how failure to meet earning estimates would
affect bonuses, stock options, and the share price of Excello stock. On December 201, 2010, the

In the first scenario, the company transfers the product to an off site warehouse owned by Excello by
December 31 and holds it there until January 11 when it would be shipped to Data Equipment. The
second scenario would transfer the product to Data Equipment by December 31 and agree that the
customer could return it for a full refund after it has arrived at Data Equipments warehouse. The third
option has Excello offering Data Equipment a 10 percent discount to take the product by December
31. The first scenario would be unethical because it does not comply with GAAP or the AICPA Code
of Professional Conduct because Excello still has ownership of the goods. The goods are being sent to
an off site warehouse that is owned by Excello Telecommunications. It would be unethical for the
company to choose this because the transfer of ownership has not occurred. A transfer of ownership
would only occur when Data Equipment has the goods in their possession. Excello would legally still
have legal title of the goods since it was stored in their warehouse. Failure to comply with this
principle could cause a lot of negative consequences for everyone that has a public interest in the
company. Second scenario would not be beneficial to the company and it would also not be ethical to
take this approach. If Data Equipment returns the goods before the financial reports are released,
disclosure of the goods being returned must be

Science, Technology and America’s Military Essay
Science, Technology and America s Military When it comes to the latest and fastest computers there is
one place that all that technology can be found, the United States Military. There is no doubt that the
U.S. Military is one of, if not the most technologically advanced armed forces in the world. Over our
countries development we have changed from a grind it out fighting machine, to a more advanced,
rapid tactical corps to meet the different battle situations found in today s world. [1] This
transformation has taken place largely in the last century with the advancement of computer
technology helping to reshape the battle field to our advantage. Our nation is constantly looking for

The simulators used today are extremely accurate as to the limitations of people and equipment, and as
advances in technology improve so do the simulators, as they become more and more realistic.
Computer game technology is also responsible for these improvements; today s video game consoles
have many times the computing power than the military s simulators a few years ago.2 The army has
even developed its own video game based on the simulators it uses for combat training. Americas
Army is more than just a shoot em up game; it is built to portray a real soldiers life, everything from
basic training to choosing a career. According to one of the games designers, Lt. Col. Casey
Wardynski, the game took over two years and around $8 million dollars (USD) to develop, but the
main point of the game is education of real Army life, and is said to be the most realistic game ever
developed. Simulators cannot however depict every aspect of military life, dealing with other team
members, salty commanders, and there is nothing to simulate being cold, tired and hungry at the end
of the day. All in all however, simulators are a vital part of today s military training and operations. In
the near future, if it is not already possible, I would not be surprised if a simulator can be developed
for any situation by simply inputting a given situation, and the soldiers will be able to use the
simulator before going into the actual combat situation.

quality for a person to have. It encompasses many things, but at its core, honesty and the soundness of
moral character. In literature it is a recurring pattern that the most outstanding characters are ones with
enduring integrity. The novel featured has made a unique mark on modern literature. Its author,

whereas reality is not so ideal. Radio Host: And sadly so. Now what about the title, the Alchemist , do
you think it was titled to represent the character s importance or does it have a symbolic meaning?
Speaker: I personal don t think the Alchemist was titled solely because of the character. The Alchemist
is an ancillary annselary character in the book, but the emphasis of the title is the symbolic meaning of
alchemy transforming one element to another of more value. It represents the process of purifying one
s character, to eliminate the bad, leaving the final result of a person with integrity. Radio Host:
Integrity really is a prominent quality in many characters in the novel. It s what makes Santiago such
an intriguing character, and you witness his development as the book progresses. Did he waver in his
integrity at any point? Speaker: Generally, any good character with depth in personality will face some
sort of opposition that leaves them a bit dumbfounded causing them to doubt their instinct. I d say the
first major conflict that Santiago faced was the incident where he misplaced trust and was robbed of
all his gold. At this point he gave up hope, and took on the notion that his dreams were distant and
unachievable. Even after he was able to continue his quest, the fear of failure made him hesitant.

Essay On The Reconstruction Plan
After the Civil War there was nothing for the soldiers to do so they went back home. In doing so
Lincoln announced his Reconstruction plan called the Ten Percent Plan, which needed ten percent of
the Southern states to take an Oath of Loyalty in order to be admitted back into the Union. This
aroused some disagreement between the Republicans and the President. The North wanted Lincoln to
punish the South severely for their acts but he denied them and said that he was going to forgive and
forget and acted like they never had seceded from the Union. The Republicans were angered when
they heard that the South basically got off free without a punishment and wanted the South to have to

With the North in power the South could do nothing but try to regain their freedom, when Abraham
Lincoln was killed by John Wilkes Booth they noticed that it was going to be even harder since there
was no President on their side anymore. When Andrew Johnson came into power the North were
happy because they thought that he was anti South, but he was not. Johnson went along with Lincoln s
Ten Percent Plan giving the South some support. The North at this act planned to impeach Johnson
from Presidency but the farthest that they got was limiting his power. Johnson did not get impeached
but instead was saved by the Seven Martyrs who took the risk of being shunned by friends and family.
The North now having a lot of power decided to help the freed slaves by passing the Fourteenth
Amendment which prevented high confederate officials from holding office. They also insisted that
the South give the freed slaves the right to vote. The North being mostly Republicans had power of the
South and wanted to have the strong hold on the Reconstruction plan. This was a hard time for the
South but a great time for the

Selfishness Is Being Selfish
A person who does a good deed for the sake of one s gratification, a person who puts personal
obligations before others, and a person who lacks the value of human life, is a person whose forehead
is stamped with a single word: selfish. Selfishness may present itself in times of danger, especially
when the decision comes to saving oneself or saving another along the way. Twenty first century
society dictates that when one is in a situation, such as being in a burning building, they are morally
obligated to do what is seen as right. As the fire engulfs the building from all sides, deep red flames
can be seen. The fire isn t only burning, but it s burning with such intensity like the fearsome fire
breathing mythological creature, Chimera. The Chimera, a hybrid of a lion, goat, and snake, is viewed
with fear or intrigue, similar to selfishness itself, so this begs the question; is selfishness ultimately
immoral, or can it be ethical?
In Examined Life, philosopher Slavoj Zizek discusses the trait that most human beings possess: being
selfish. As the documentary begins, Zizek can be seen scouring a junkyard, disclosing his philosophy
on ecology. As stated by Zizek, ecology addresses genuine problems that society is aware of but
continues to turn a blind eye. Furthermore, Zizek dives into the misconception that people continue to
make about waste and trash; people believe that waste and trash are one in the same, however, waste
disappears, but trash doesn t. While digging around

Four Practical Principles Of Vocabulary Education
Vocabulary is one of the most important contributors to children s learning. The higher the levels of
vocabulary knowledge a child has, the more they will understand and the faster they will learn.
Vocabulary learning begins at home. From an article I read in college Four practical principles for
enhancing vocabulary instruction , research has shown that the level of vocabulary instruction
received by children beginning at home has a huge bearing on both the success of children s personal
and academic development. Children from low income families and non English speaking families
face a large deficit in English vocabulary knowledge when beginning school (Manyak et al., 2014).
This deficit in turn becomes a major barrier and obstacle to reading success, and thus there is an
urgent need for teachers and schools to improve the quality of vocabulary instruction.
A lot of these children are unable to comprehend the vocabulary which they ... Show more content on

The average student knows 40,000 words (Manyak et al., 2014) so it is obvious that students need to
know more words than teachers can teach. One strategy would be to choose between 12 and 15 target
words to teach each week, depending on the level of word knowledge a word takes to understand.
There are four pragmatic principles for enhancing vocabulary instruction (Nosal, 2012). These are:
1) Establish efficient yet rich routines for introducing target words (Nosal, 2012) teaching individual
words takes time, especially if you have a large number of words to teach. Time can be saved if
successful routines are used. Having a routine saves vital learning time.
2) Provide review experiences that promote deep processing of target words (Nosal, 2012) give the
children experiences of the words that allow and encourage them to use and understand each word, the
children should be exposed to each word in multiple

he or she is male or female by age 3 but they fail to recognize that gender is stable and constant

up to be a mother.) (2) Gender Stability a child understands that their gender is

Against Legalizing Homosexual Marriages Essay
Against Legalizing Homosexual Marriages
The legalized marriage of individuals with the same gender is drawing more attention these days.
When asked, most people want to avoid the subject of homosexuality altogether or they have a very
strong opinion on it. The debate over whether the United States should allow homosexual couples to
marry legally is giving rise to a new social dilemma in our country. This question has courtrooms
nervous, churches wavering and equal rights activists angry. Courtrooms should be nervous though.
Our courts, which have mishandled abortion, may be on the verge of mishandling homosexual
marriages (Wilson 34). The judges of the Supreme Court of Hawaii might possibly legalize gay

According to Jet Magazine, in March of 1996, USA Today/CNN did a gallop telephone poll of 1,008
adults and came to some interesting conclusions.
The number of people who believe homosexuality is acceptable has gone up 10 percentage points
since 1982 . . . 44 percent of the people surveyed found homosexuality to be acceptable. But, while
leading an alternative lifestyle is more acceptable to many, the poll also showed that 68 percent of the
respondents think marriages between homosexuals shouldn t be recognized by law or have the same
benefits as traditional marriages (8).
These respondents were all adults, but what about children? How are they affected?
Children are our nation s most valuable assets. It is one thing to be born into a heterosexual family,
and then many years later find out that one of the parents is homosexual. It is considerably different to
be adopted as an infant and learn from the beginning years that drastic differences exist between most
other children and yourself. The long term effect on children in these circumstances is still a very new
area of research, so there is not much data available. However, we know that young children tease one
another unmercifully; adding this dimension does not seem to be a step in the right direction (Wilson
38).
Adoption of children by gay couples is an area where homosexuals believe they can make significant
strides in their struggle to legalize homosexual marriage. Gay rights activists

An Observational Study Design That Could Be Appropriately...
An observational study design that could be appropriately used by an APN to study the above research
question is a cross sectional study design. Important questions to make this study applicable, is it
appropriate; is the characteristics between prevalent and incident cases a factor; have other
explanations been ruled out?
According to Curley Vitale (2012), the cross sectional study determines the exposure and outcomes at
the same time. It provides a snap shot at one point in time. The information obtained was about the
relationship of Tuberculosis and the White Ethnic group of males during a single point in time, 1993
and 2011. Cross sectional studies are applicable for screening the hypothesis due to the fact they
require a small time frame and minimal resources to manag e.
Cross sectional study design has been utilized to comprehend the prevalence of diseases, treatments,
services and outcomes. Cross sectional study strengths contain surveys that are inexpensive and takes
a shorter time to complete, and can provide descriptive data about the population of people involved in
the study. The study can be useful for assessing risk factor prevalence rate, a means to compare
groups, has the ability to study fatal diseases within a smaller population, and can study multiple
exposures (Curley Vitale, 2012).
Cross sectional weaknesses are unable to measure or determine exposures exactly because the
outcome and exposure is done simultaneously. There can be bias of variable

Discrimination can appear at the time of recruitment, or at work, with regard to working conditions
such as work hour, leave, pay, training; and dismissal, termination, retirement or discrimination to
customers. It is also important to not only to have clear guiding policy that indicates the commitment
of the organization to provide equal employment opportunity for anyone who applied for a job but
also endeavors to implement it. Adamson attempting to threaten to fire anyone who discriminated is a
strategy on itself to implement his policy.
However, there is sill more work to do, there is sill some discrimination lawsuits that Denny s face.
However, I do not think it is an indication that Denny s new policies and practices are not working.

it has been improving in managing diversity. The public image of Denny s is still associated with their

Perfection In Dead Poets Society
Did you know, in today s society, everyone suffers. Why? Because of the idea that there is a perfect
way to be a human. The three stories, Dead Poets Society, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings ,
and Those Who Walk Away from Omelas show how the ideas of perfection create suffering in society.
In Dead Poets Society, Neil, one of the main characters, is stuck between meeting his father s
standards of life, and doing what he wants to do. Neil s father wants him to become a doctor, or a
lawyer, or have a professional career. He basically forces Neil to do this, so Neil doesn t have any

Everyone in the city is happy, and nothing can go wrong in their lives. But one child, who is trapped in
a closet underneath the city is unlike the people above. The child is malnourished, feeble minded, and
in poor shape overall. People from above come down to the closet once in awhile just to look at the
poor child. Some kick and abuse the child, while others reluctantly feed it. After the visit, some of the
people are angry, and confused about why this child has to suffer, and a few leave the city because of
the treatment of the child. The child could symbolize the people who are different than the majority of
society. Because of the difference between the majority and minority, the minority is treated terribly.
Since being different is detrimental to society s ideals of perfection, Society will treat the people who

of how society treats people who a different in a negative

Essay on Economics Assessment of Brazil
Brazil is one of the most prominent emerging economies in the world, indeed Brazil forms part of the
BRIC group of emerging economies alongside Russia, India and China. Brazil does differ from some
of its emerging economy counterparts in many ways, unlike China (but similar to Russia and India)
Brazil has a democratic form of government and the centre left Worker s Party (Partidos dos
Trabalhadores (PT)) has governed Brazil since 2003. Unlike other emerging economies, the Brazilian
economy is dominated by the services industry which contributes 67 per cent of Brazilian GDP and
employs 70 per cent of Brazil s 100.77 million strong labour force. The other key sectors of the

inequality has remained quite high in Brazil and the decrease that has occurred in income inequality,
measured by the Gini index as having decreased from 52.3 in 2000 to 47.7 in 2008 is largely
attributable to the social justice programs of the Brazilian government rather than the direct impact of
global market forces. The most notable of these programs is the Bolsa Familia conditional social

Violent Media Argument Analysis
My argument synthesis essay
Violent media is good for kids is a fascinating article written by Gerard Jones. He makes an argument
about how many forms of creative violence help many more children than they harm by giving them a
tool to master their rage. At thirteen years of age he explains how forms of violence have been
insightful and impactful for him. Growing up alone and afraid Gerard was taught by his parents that
rage was something to be overcome and that violence was wrong. He was placed in a small school he
felt was wrong for him, but then he withdrew from his loneliness when he became introduced to
Marvel comics. Specifically, a character in the Marvel comics he felt he could relate to named the

That rage in the rapper s lyrics helped her in a way which she felt she could be powerful and
invulnerable in her mind. That same girl later in her life avoided the use of drugs that sank many of
her peers and succeeded through college as a writer and political activist.
Jones is not making an argument saying that violent entertainment is harmless. He knows it inspired
some people to real life violence. He argues that it has helped many people for the many people that it
hurt before and that it can help even more if people learn to utilize it well. He believes that parents
highest priority with their kids is to prevent them growing up into violent thugs, but modern kids are
more likely to grow up too passive, distrustful of themselves, and too easily manipulated. He believes
that when parents try to protect their own kids from their own feelings and fantasies, they shelter them
not from violence but against power and selfhood. Jones urges us to consider helping our kids with
their fantasies rather than trying to hide them or take them away.
When life imitates video is another article written by John Leo who opposes the argument given
before by Gerard Jones. John s argument is that If we want to avoid more massacres we should be
taking the social effects of killing games more seriously. He mentions the Colorado Massacre as
suspects Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris used pistol grip shotguns as

McLachlan says Will you be an angel for a helpless animal. (BC SPCA) In this part of the video,
Sarah McLachlan is suggesting that if we donate we will help animals who have been beaten, starved,

In addition to all the examples of pathos, they express a lot of ethos in the ad. This is mostly shown
through Sarah McLachlan. Not only does McLachlan speech throughout the video in a soothing tone
but she is also the one singing Angels in the background of the video. They don t directly say it, but
you can tell from the context that Sarah McLachlan is a huge advocate for the BC SPCA company.
This is most likely because she is seem sitting on the couch petting a rescued dog and you can hear the
sadness and pain in her voice. Sarah McLachlan is a famous person and when people see the
commercial and recognize her they will want to help and donate just like she is. Sarah McLachlan is
probably a role model to many and a lot of people want to follow in the footsteps of their role model.
The people who see this commercial they will trust it because of Sarah McLachlan. The positive to
this is that more people will want to donate to BC SPCA.
The next important technique used is logos because of all the facts in this video. The very first fact
shown is Every single hour in BC, an animal is violently abused (BC SPCA) this makes people think
of how many animals actually get hurt so often and angers them. The other fact shown is Every day,
innocent animals are abused, beaten, and neglected; and they are calling out for help. (Sarah

Literary Elements In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
Marigolds Essay Do you remember of your childhood and can describe detail by detail everything?
The author Eugenia Collier uses flashback, imagery, and diction to help create the voice of Lizbeth.
This story was written as a flashback because Lizbeth the main character was remembering all and
telling it. She explained some of the things in detail and used a lot of wording too. In all the story
Lizbeth used literary elements.
In the beginning of the story Lizbeth says, When I think of the home of my youth, all I seem to
remember is dust... (Collier 1). This quote is a evidence of how Lizbeth is using flashback to start the
story. She is going back to her youth life and starts to remember everything. After that she is having
some memories that make her feel something. Whenever the memory of those marigolds flashes
across my mind, a strange nostalgia comes with it and remains long after the pictures has fared
(Collier 2). In this quote she is having memories of the marigolds and I think she feels nostalgia
because of the incident that happened back then. Although in some of the parts of her story you ...

In most of the story the characters are describing things in detail that we can imagine. For example, I
remember fishing for minnows in a muddy creek and watching sadly as they eluded my cupped hands,
while Joey laugh uproariously (Collier 8). In this quote Lizbeth is using words to describe all the
memory that she is remembering. Almost at the end of the story when Lizbeth was destroying Mrs.
Lottie s marigolds a quote that is describing imagery is I leaped furiously into the mounds of
marigolds and pulled madly, trampling and pulling and destroying the perfect yellow blooms (Collier
58). I choose the quote because when I read it I can picture that in my mind and that is what imagery
is. The author used many more words to create imagery in the short story

The Character Of Belle From Beauty And The Beast
Comparing yourself to a fictional character may not be something that has ran through your mind, but
it does not hurt to try it. A fictional characters may have very similar characteristics to you that you
never realized while watching shows or movies. The three fictional characters that most represent my
personality are Belle from Beauty and the Beast for her caring attitude towards others, Regina George
from Mean Girls for her confidence in her actions, and Minnie Mouse from Mickey Mouse Club
House for her friendliness. Belle is an ordinary girl from a small town who then becomes a princess in
the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast, although we have different lifestyles, we also have
similarities; we both are caring and love our fathers. In the beginning of the movie, Belle is shown as a
very humble girl who lives in a small town with her father. Belle is always kind to the townspeople
even though she seems odd to them. Belles father Maurice is also different from the rest, he likes to
create inventions which makes him odd to the rest of the townspeople. Despite the rude comments the
townspeople make about her father, Belle loves him unconditionally and cares about him. Belles
caring personality separates her from the rest of the arrogant young girls from her town. Like Belle, I
like to care a lot about my father. My father is the most important person in my life, he is my role
model. He may not be the most perfect father in the world, but to me he is the best I could

The poem The Tyger by William Blake
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not, and it
shall be given to him. These wise words of King James verse (1:5) of the bible portrays an underlying
message that although we should follow in God s path, we are not expected to follow blindly.
Likewise, in the poem The Tyger by William Blake, it s theme is a reflection of what this quote
implies. Throughout this poem, Blake explores the possibility of questioning God while using the
structure of the poem, as well as the irony of God s character, and several sound devices in hopes of
communicating a message, that to question God is only human nature.
First of all, the structure of Blake s poem really contributes to emphasizing it s theme. Roughly the
poem is divided into three major parts, the author starts by describing a tiger, a ferocious and deadly
animal. He slowly transitions into questioning the creation of the Tyger, which he purposely and
carefully organizes as context to the third stage where he will prove what he is trying to convey
through this poem. And what shoulder, and what art. Could twist the sinews of thy heart? (11 120)
This quote, taken from the second part of this poem s structure displays an example the kind of
questions Blake would ask about the tiger s creation. It supports the theme by helping to create
suspense to really magnifying the third part of the poem s structure by making the reader really think,
which is essential in

Essay on The Indoor Air Quality of Natatoriums
The indoor air quality of natatoriums has become a significant health hazard, particularly regarding

systems, Heating Ventilating Air Conditioning, are designed to control the air temperature. They have
many different uses, for example, regulating the humidity and fresh air turnover rate. However, they
do not clean the air . As said in the USA Swimming article The Air Quality Issue, ...air quality is

Some of the physical symptoms attributed to disinfection byproducts include coughing, eye and nose
irritation, anemia, stomach discomfort, damaged hair and skin. Severe symptoms include wheezing or
aggravating asthma. It has also been found that the routine breathing of irritants may increased
sensitivity to other types of irritants such as fungi and bacteria. Improperly balanced chlorinated pools
can actually cause severe asthma. These findings may explain why swimmers are more prone to
exercise induced asthma than athletes in other sports. Results show that nitrogen trichloride or
trichloramine is a cause of occupational asthma in swimming pool workers like lifeguards and swim
instructors, says Dr. K. Thickett of the Occupational Lung Diseases Unit at the Birmingham
Heartlands Hospital. In Dr. Thickett s study, his subjects either stopped taking inhaled corticosteroids
altogether, or their asthma symptoms decreased significantly once they were placed in an environment
away from the swimming pools. Dr. Thickett s study has been supported by research from other
European and Australian sources. Outdoor aquatic facilities have plenty of fresh air and UV light,
which means they are not as susceptible to the chloramine problem. Chloramine formation can be
accelerated by a wide variety of aquatic activities.

Reaction Paper On Birth Control
In between the years of 1914 up until 1921 of the birth control pill was starting to be developed.
Activist Margaret Sanger opens the first birth control clinic in Brownsville, Brooklyn, and starts the
American Birth Control League, the precursor to Planned Parenthood. A few years later, in 1934, an
Endocrinologist Gregory Pincus uses a test tube and a rabbit to help develop a contraceptive device.
About seventeen years later, specifically in 1951, Sanger meets Pincus at a party in New York, and
this is where Sanger persuades Pincus to help out with work on a birth control pill. Meanwhile, in that
same year another chemist from Mexico city, named Carl Djerassi, creates a similar pill. He does this
by synthesizing hormones from Mexican yams. Even though pill has been invented, Djerassi isn t
equipped to test, to produce, or to even distribute it. This in turn means that Sanger and Djerassi are
competing in a way. About a year later, in 1952 Gregory Pincus tests progesterone in rats. From this
experiment Pincus figures out that it actually works. Afterwards, he meets gynecologist named John
Rock. Rock already began testing a chemical contraception for women. The next year, Katherine
McCormick who is a biologist, a women s rights activist, writes Pincus a check for $40,000 to conduct
research into furthering research about the pill. From this large amount of money, Rock and Pincus are
able to conduct the one of the first human trials. The trials is based off of fifty women that

She Ain T Right Essay
The happiest, most exciting memories I hold on to are often accompanied by a country song, whether
it be playing in the background, or roaring over the speakers. Songs are written for people to feel and
relate to the emotion the songwriter and singer put behind the lyrics. Growing up having my dad be
my role model and most influential person in my life, I often find myself in things that remind me of
him or our memories, along with songs that describe a girl who is fearless and lives on the edge at
times, as if there are no consequences. For me, this is especially true listening to the song She Ain t
Right, by Lee Brice, which highlights my personality and strength I got from my dad, my sense of
fearlessness, and my constant seeking out of adventure.
Growing up, I was, and am, my dad s little sidekick. We are best friends. Naturally, being such a
daddy s girl, I picked up his habits, which include being expressive via curse words and not filtering
my thoughts before saying them out loud. She Ain t Right begins with a line She got her Daddy s
tongue and temper, sometimes her mouth could use a filter. These words could not resonate with me
any more! There have even been several times I catch myself asking, Woah, is that my voice in my
head, or Dad s? The very first time I ever heard my dad curse was in Target at the checkout. I can t

Biohazards of Sewage Sludge Essay
Wastewater can come from a variety of sources like homes, businesses, industries, runoff from roads,
lawns and fields and is treated by municipal wastewater treatment facilities (Product, cornell). The
solid material that remains after the treatment of wastewater is known as sludge (charac, cornell).
Sludge can be employed in many different ways, it can be used as a soil additive or growing medium,
sent to a composting facility, incinerated or landfilled (Char, cornell).
Biosolids are derived primarily from a combination of primary, secondary, and tertiary sewage
sludges. Biosolids do not contain the coarse grit and screenings removed from raw wastewater during

These various routes or pathways of contact can result in either acute or chronic disease if the
exposure is high enough. For pathogens, the primary concern is acute diseases of a short term duration
(i.e., gastroenteritis or flu like symptoms), while for the various potential chemical contaminants, risks
are derived from chronic exposure via ingestion.
Pathogens that may be present in biosolids applied to land pose a disease risk only if there are routes
of exposure that deliver an infective dose. The principal means of exposure is through ingestion or
inhalation. Absorption through the skin is considered to be a minor route of exposure unless a field
worker suffers a cut or other puncture to the skin and is exposed. The degree of harm caused by
bacterial toxins varies with the mode of entry into the body.
It seems there is a correlation between the amount of biosolids applied and frequency of
contamination. A 1984 study showed that 22.4mg/ha applied to Sassafras sandy loam soil was the
upper limit to ensure that groundwater was not contaminated (Higgins, 1984). Doses below 22.4mg/ha
of land are acceptable for the provision of nutrients to plants, while anything above diminished the
water quality to below American federal standards (Higgens, 1984). Heavy metals and coliforms

The Early Modern Atlantic Economy Edited by J. McCusker...
On one hand a group of historian argues the notion that Brazil and the Caribbean experienced a sugar
revolution while on the other hand another group argues that there was no such thing as a sugar
revolution, what Brazil and Caribbean experienced was simply a sugar boom. In order to assess which
group of historians is more accurate, one must first understand the concept of a sugar revolution and
what factors must be present in order for a sugar revolution to occur. The concept of a sugar revolution
is one that states there was a drastic change from the cultivation of tobacco to the cultivating of sugar
cane, changing the country`s economy, politics and social structure within a short period of time.

When sugar cane was introduced those planters who owned small plots of land either had to sell their
land, merge their land with another planter and enter into a partnership or buy more land in order to
grow sugar cane. Sugar cane could only be grown on large plots of land which ranged from 150 acres
to 500 acres in Barbados and in Jamaica 300 acres to 5000 acres. The type of labour also changed
within the Caribbean islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Nevis, Antigua and Montserrat from free labour to
slave labour. Tobacco cultivation required a very small labour force, but with sugar as the new cash
crop a large labour force was needed in which the Dutch provided by bringing African slaves.
Therefore the white populations of these countries declined while the black populations increased due
to the sugar revolution. Even though the governments of these Islands made efforts to keep the black
to white ratio ten to one, according to Greenwood, Robert, Hamber, S, Dyde, Brian the ratio became
extremely difficult to maintain during the years passed .
This population change occurred during the early years of the sugar revolution up to the mid 1700s. In
Barbados there were 18 000 whites and 5 500 blacks in 1645 and by 1660 there were 20 000 whites

Epilepsy Drug Therapies
Introduction:
This paper will focus on the history of epilepsy, the causes of the disease specifically its genetic link
and the evolution of drug therapies. My interest in this topic stems from working with people with

understand that the disease carries a stigma and many people still hide that they have the condition
which why it s important to educate people about it.
According to Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, in the United States, it is estimated that more

Unredeemed Captive by the Yale historian named John Demos. The Mohawk Indians captured and

journey from Massachusetts to Canada. The journey claimed the lives of many as a result of the harsh

Should Kids Get Allowances
Do you think that kids should get allowance for doing chores or get an allowance no matter what? In
my opinion, I believe that kids should get an allowance for good behavior and doing chores. I believe
this because your kid can get a reward, learn to have good behavior, and your parents mostly likely
comes home from a hard day of work and needs help cleaning the house.
Getting an allowance for doing good rewards your kid a lot in his/hers future. It also definitely helps
with future behaviors. Kids know if they are doing really good for doing chores, they most likely get a
reward. It teaches them to work hard and then they get an allowance. That can help for jobs and other
opportunities. This is a good reason for getting an allowance.

along with; it was wonderful. However, that was not enough. When I became older, I decided to go to
high school. I had no idea about who I want to in my life be because everything was different. After a

  • 2. The Economic And Social Welfare Of The Indian Ocean 1. This project is set up in Sri Lanka which is an island nation and in the Indian Ocean located in the southern part of the Indian subcontinent. The project mainly focuses on Colombo where the commercial capital of Sri Lanka is. According to the Global Challenges in Engineering (Baillie Armstrong, 2016), the population of Colombo was 5.36 million in 2002. Benefit from the open market policy published by new government, the economic condition was improved significantly. The population of Colombo increased dramatically, too. But at the same time, large number of lower class people in Colombo and increasing waste disposal are the problems that Colombo Municipal Council has to face with. Waste collectors are such a group of people who are identified as lower class and taking main part jobs of waste recycling in Colombo because of poor regulation and supervision of waste disposal and waste recycling system. Our project aims to better the economic and social welfare of waste collectors of Colombo through better waste management, or in other words, to improve the living standard and efficiency of the waste collectors in the informal waste sector. The ideal result of this project is to provide them with better living standards, higher income levels, a more efficient method of recycling waste, and finally to reduce the waste by our design and teamwork 2.1 As mention above, the project locates on Colombo, the economic center and the biggest city of Sri Lanka. • 3. Barbaric Nomads Analysis There are many ancient sources stating that the Huns themselves were barbaric nomads. Ammianus Marcellinus, a Roman writer states in the History of Rome, that The nation of the Huns surpasses all other barbarians in wildness of life... They fight in no regular order of battle... It must be owned that they are the most terrible of warriors because they fight at a distance with missile weapons having sharpened bones admirably fastened to the shaft. When in close combat with swords, they fight without regard to their own safety . Marcellinus sees how the Huns fighting style is completely different to that of the Romans and therefore finds it to be extremely terrible. The exaggerated language and bias of this piece is clear and as a Roman writer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Jordanes, a 6th Century Roman bureaucrat, describes how [Attila] was indeed a lover of war, yet restrained in action; mighty in counsel, gracious to suppliants, and lenient to those who were once received under his protection . Furthermore, Attila refused to be seduced by wealth as Priscus explains how Attila ate nothing but meat on a wooden trencher... his cup was of wood, while to the guests were given goblets of gold and silver. His dress, too, was quite simple, affecting only to be clean. The sword he carried at his side, the latchets of his Scythian shoes, and the bridle of his horse were not adorned, like those of the other Scythians, with gold or gems or anything costly . Both of these accounts document how humble Attila could be, Huns valued gold, and would often brag about their wealth, but, as these two accounts document, Attila acted modestly about his wealth. Furthermore, Priscus observed Attila with his son and noted a tenderness, as he wrote: He drew him close... and gazed at him with gentle eyes . As Roman writers Priscus and Jordanes gain nothing by writing positively about Attila, and therefore we can assume that these accounts are fairly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Radio Frequency Identification Radio frequency identification (RFID) can be loosely linked all the way back to WW2 as a method of tracking allied planes versus enemy fighters during aerial combat (Roberti, 2005). In the PBSC class MAN4504, this technology was worshiped as a way to ring up an entire cart of groceries with one simple hovering swipe over top of all the merchandise contained within the cart. However, control freak school officials have recently gotten the idea that the RFID system might be amply used as a way to keep track of students. But, the problem with this somewhat big brotherish type of philosophy is that it can, indeed, be construed as an invasion of privacy. If one is at all familiar with the Constitution that our ... • 5. The City-Soul Dichotomy In Plato s Republic In the Republic, the city soul analogy serves as the starting point from which Plato builds the dialogue, and its implications phantasmically loom in the background of the work s political and philosophical deliberations. At the end of Republic II, Socrates, in an effort to impugn Thrasymachus commendation of injustice, asserts that a just soul and a just man will live well, and an unjust one badly. (Republic 353e) Socrates therefore believes that the just live better lives than those who are unjust, and to demonstrate this to his main interlocutors he considers a city in which justice is applied. Socrates general approach is to draw out the fundamental concept of political justice, and, through the vehicle of the city soul analogy, relate this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of this is found in Republic IV as the soul is proven to be partitioned into three independent components: reason, spirit, and appetite, all of which have direct counterparts in the class structure of Socrates city. The analogy s significance is also showcased in Republic VII, as an accurate depiction of justice s intrinsic value in the individual is derived through the interlocutor s investigation of the conventions in Socrates city. Justice is ultimately found to possess universal qualities, one of which includes being a product of the pursuit of the form of the good. Further consistencies between the city and soul are evinced by Republic VIII and IX where Socrates finds equivalence among the specific dynamics of various political systems and natural constitutions of the soul. The Free Radical Chlorination Of 1-Chlorobutane Abstract The free radical chlorination of 1 chlorobutane resulted in a mixture of at least 4 different possible products from the reaction. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry helped in figuring out which of the products are most abundant in the sample product created as well as in discovering the ratio of relative reactivities of the hydrogens. This experiment showed that the ratio of relative reactivities was found to be 1.0 : 3.5 : 6.2 : 2.4, which indicates that the secondary hydrogens are more reactive than the primary hydrogens and that reactivity further increases the further away the hydrogen is from the chlorine on the 1 chlorobutane. Instead of heat or light, the initiator used in the experiment is 2,2 azobis (2 methylpropionitrile).4 Identification of the products obtained in the experiment was done through the analysis of data from mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, and physical properties (e.g. boiling point and molecular weight). Selfishness may present itself in times of danger, especially when the decision comes to saving oneself or saving another along the way. Twenty first century society dictates that when one is in a situation, such as being in a burning building, they are morally obligated to do what is seen as right. As the fire engulfs the building from all sides, deep red flames can be seen. The fire isn t only burning, but it s burning with such intensity like the fearsome fire breathing mythological creature, Chimera. The Chimera, a hybrid of a lion, goat, and snake, is viewed with fear or intrigue, similar to selfishness itself, so this begs the question; is selfishness ultimately immoral, or can it be ethical? In Examined Life, philosopher Slavoj Zizek discusses the trait that most human beings possess: being selfish. As the documentary begins, Zizek can be seen scouring a junkyard, disclosing his philosophy on ecology. As stated by Zizek, ecology addresses genuine problems that society is aware of but continues to turn a blind eye. The author Eugenia Collier uses flashback, imagery, and diction to help create the voice of Lizbeth. This story was written as a flashback because Lizbeth the main character was remembering all and telling it. She explained some of the things in detail and used a lot of wording too. In all the story Lizbeth used literary elements. In the beginning of the story Lizbeth says, When I think of the home of my youth, all I seem to remember is dust... (Collier 1). This quote is a evidence of how Lizbeth is using flashback to start the story. She is going back to her youth life and starts to remember everything. After that she is having some memories that make her feel something. Whenever the memory of those marigolds flashes across my mind, a strange nostalgia comes with it and remains long after the pictures has fared (Collier 2). In this quote she is having memories of the marigolds and I think she feels nostalgia because of the incident that happened back then. Although in some of the parts of her story you ... Almost at the end of the story when Lizbeth was destroying Mrs. Lottie s marigolds a quote that is describing imagery is I leaped furiously into the mounds of marigolds and pulled madly, trampling and pulling and destroying the perfect yellow blooms (Collier 58). A fictional characters may have very similar characteristics to you that you never realized while watching shows or movies. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Belle from Beauty and the Beast for her caring attitude towards others, Regina George from Mean Girls for her confidence in her actions, and Minnie Mouse from Mickey Mouse Club House for her friendliness. Belle is an ordinary girl from a small town who then becomes a princess in the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast, although we have different lifestyles, we also have similarities; we both are caring and love our fathers. In the beginning of the movie, Belle is shown as a very humble girl who lives in a small town with her father. Belle is always kind to the townspeople even though she seems odd to them. Belles father Maurice is also different from the rest, he likes to create inventions which makes him odd to the rest of the townspeople. Despite the rude comments the townspeople make about her father, Belle loves him unconditionally and cares about him. Belles caring personality separates her from the rest of the arrogant young girls from her town. Like Belle, I like to care a lot about my father. My father is the most important person in my life, he is my role model. He may not be the most perfect father in the world, but to me he is the best I could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The poem The Tyger by William Blake If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not, and it shall be given to him. These wise words of King James verse (1:5) of the bible portrays an underlying message that although we should follow in God s path, we are not expected to follow blindly. Likewise, in the poem The Tyger by William Blake, it s theme is a reflection of what this quote implies. Throughout this poem, Blake explores the possibility of questioning God while using the structure of the poem, as well as the irony of God s character, and several sound devices in hopes of communicating a message, that to question God is only human nature. First of all, the structure of Blake s poem really contributes to emphasizing it s theme. Roughly the poem is divided into three major parts, the author starts by describing a tiger, a ferocious and deadly animal. He slowly transitions into questioning the creation of the Tyger, which he purposely and carefully organizes as context to the third stage where he will prove what he is trying to convey through this poem. And what shoulder, and what art. Could twist the sinews of thy heart? (11 120) This quote, taken from the second part of this poem s structure displays an example the kind of questions Blake would ask about the tiger s creation. It supports the theme by helping to create suspense to really magnifying the third part of the poem s structure by making the reader really think, which is essential in ... The lack of regulations and legislature has made this situation worse. HVAC systems, Heating Ventilating Air Conditioning, are designed to control the air temperature. As said in the USA Swimming article The Air Quality Issue, ...air quality is directly affected by the water quality, i.e. bad water = bad air! Some of the physical symptoms attributed to disinfection byproducts include coughing, eye and nose irritation, anemia, stomach discomfort, damaged hair and skin. Severe symptoms include wheezing or aggravating asthma. It has also been found that the routine breathing of irritants may increased sensitivity to other types of irritants such as fungi and bacteria. Improperly balanced chlorinated pools can actually cause severe asthma. These findings may explain why swimmers are more prone to exercise induced asthma than athletes in other sports. Results show that nitrogen trichloride or trichloramine is a cause of occupational asthma in swimming pool workers like lifeguards and swim instructors, says Dr. K. Thickett of the Occupational Lung Diseases Unit at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. In Dr. Thickett s study, his subjects either stopped taking inhaled corticosteroids altogether, or their asthma symptoms decreased significantly once they were placed in an environment away from the swimming pools. Dr. Thickett s study has been supported by research from other European and Australian sources. Outdoor aquatic facilities have plenty of fresh air and UV light, which means they are not as susceptible to the chloramine problem. Chloramine formation can be accelerated by a wide variety of aquatic activities. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Activist Margaret Sanger opens the first birth control clinic in Brownsville, Brooklyn, and starts the American Birth Control League, the precursor to Planned Parenthood. A few years later, in 1934, an Endocrinologist Gregory Pincus uses a test tube and a rabbit to help develop a contraceptive device. About seventeen years later, specifically in 1951, Sanger meets Pincus at a party in New York, and this is where Sanger persuades Pincus to help out with work on a birth control pill. Meanwhile, in that same year another chemist from Mexico city, named Carl Djerassi, creates a similar pill. He does this by synthesizing hormones from Mexican yams. Even though pill has been invented, Djerassi isn t equipped to test, to produce, or to even distribute it. This in turn means that Sanger and Djerassi are competing in a way. About a year later, in 1952 Gregory Pincus tests progesterone in rats. From this experiment Pincus figures out that it actually works. Afterwards, he meets gynecologist named John Rock. Rock already began testing a chemical contraception for women. The next year, Katherine McCormick who is a biologist, a women s rights activist, writes Pincus a check for $40,000 to conduct research into furthering research about the pill. Songs are written for people to feel and relate to the emotion the songwriter and singer put behind the lyrics. Growing up having my dad be my role model and most influential person in my life, I often find myself in things that remind me of him or our memories, along with songs that describe a girl who is fearless and lives on the edge at times, as if there are no consequences. For me, this is especially true listening to the song She Ain t Right, by Lee Brice, which highlights my personality and strength I got from my dad, my sense of fearlessness, and my constant seeking out of adventure. Growing up, I was, and am, my dad s little sidekick. We are best friends. Naturally, being such a daddy s girl, I picked up his habits, which include being expressive via curse words and not filtering my thoughts before saying them out loud. Sludge can be employed in many different ways, it can be used as a soil additive or growing medium, sent to a composting facility, incinerated or landfilled (Char, cornell). For pathogens, the primary concern is acute diseases of a short term duration (i.e., gastroenteritis or flu like symptoms), while for the various potential chemical contaminants, risks are derived from chronic exposure via ingestion. Pathogens that may be present in biosolids applied to land pose a disease risk only if there are routes of exposure that deliver an infective dose. The principal means of exposure is through ingestion or inhalation. Absorption through the skin is considered to be a minor route of exposure unless a field worker suffers a cut or other puncture to the skin and is exposed. The degree of harm caused by bacterial toxins varies with the mode of entry into the body. It seems there is a correlation between the amount of biosolids applied and frequency of contamination. A 1984 study showed that 22.4mg/ha applied to Sassafras sandy loam soil was the upper limit to ensure that groundwater was not contaminated (Higgins, 1984). Doses below 22.4mg/ha of land are acceptable for the provision of nutrients to plants, while anything above diminished the water quality to below American federal standards (Higgens, 1984). When sugar cane was introduced those planters who owned small plots of land either had to sell their land, merge their land with another planter and enter into a partnership or buy more land in order to grow sugar cane. Sugar cane could only be grown on large plots of land which ranged from 150 acres to 500 acres in Barbados and in Jamaica 300 acres to 5000 acres. The type of labour also changed within the Caribbean islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Nevis, Antigua and Montserrat from free labour to slave labour. Tobacco cultivation required a very small labour force, but with sugar as the new cash crop a large labour force was needed in which the Dutch provided by bringing African slaves. Therefore the white populations of these countries declined while the black populations increased due to the sugar revolution. Even though the governments of these Islands made efforts to keep the black to white ratio ten to one, according to Greenwood, Robert, Hamber, S, Dyde, Brian the ratio became extremely difficult to maintain during the years passed .
