The Four Seasons By Antonio Lucio Vivaldi
Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, outstanding composer of The Four Seasons and more specifically Gloria in
Excelsis Deo, was born March the 4th 1678 and died July 28th 1741. Vivaldi was born in Venice,
Italy: a city in northeastern Italy sited on a group of one hundred seventeen small islands separated by
canals and linked by bridges. He died in Veinna, Austria, the capital and largest city of Austria, and
one of the nine states of Austria, Vienna is also Austria s primary city.
Antonio Vivaldi is a well known composer of the Baroque music style. Baroque music ranges from
1600 1750 where Vivaldi neatly falls into. Baroque music established opera, cantata, oratorio,
concerto, and sonata as musical genres and the vocabulary used for the music is still common in our
musical vocabulary today. Baroque music is a large piece of what we deem classical music . The
music style is what enlarged our size, range and instrumental complexity of the music. Common
composers of the Baroque style are Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Alessandro
Scarlatti, Domenico Scarlatti, Antonio Vivaldi, Henry Purcell, Georg Philipp Telemann, Jean Baptiste
Lully, Arcangelo Corelli, Tomaso Albinoni, François Couperin, Denis Gaultier, Claudio Monteverdi,
Heinrich Schütz, Jean Philippe Rameau, Jan Dismas Zelenka, and Johann Pachelbel.
Antonio Vivaldi composed aforementioned The Four Seasons a four part musical series from 1717 to
1721, as well as his two most well known operas Argippo and Bajazet.

Political Racism And The Consequences
Racism and the consequences
The Republicans have used the voting rights laws to create gerrymandered bleached white districts
that favor radical right wing conservative Republicans. While jamming minorities into a few districts
primarily black that preclude whites from even running for office in those districts because minorities
will not generally vote for white democrats if a black is running. Hence the complete control of both
houses of the legislature by the radical Republicans. That is why you don t see many white Democrats
in the legislature.
In addition, in statewide elections the vote s falls about 50 50 between Democrats and Republicans
and therefore you should have about the same ratio in both houses of the legislature. We don t

The Legacy Of The Sierra Club Adams
As Adams pursued his work in both art and conservation the various lines of his life were beginning to
converge revealing both the unity and the disjunction of his ideas. 137 His impact was felt on both
spheres of influence. Using modern techniques of mass communications, Adams brought a vision of
idealized wilderness to a broad audience and linked the environmental movement with nationalism
and a romantic view of nature. The sustained popularity of his photographs illuminates a continuing
public fascination with the wilderness landscape as both a place of beauty and a symbol of national
identity and ideals. (Pacific 42) Most leaders within the conservation movement continued to share his
ideal assuming that economic growth and wilderness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Adidas International Global Media Manager
Brand in the hand is a new marketing strategy developed by Adidas International global media
manager. This new campaign is based on the merging of cell phones and wireless internet. This
campaign presents company background information, data on the penetration of mobile devices such
as cell phones, the growth of global mobile marketing practices, and several mobile marketing
communications campaigns that Adidas launched in 2004, such as a mobile news ticker for the 2004
European soccer championship. Introduces a specific campaign Respect M.E. featuring Missy Elliott,
a popular female hip hop artist, and discusses the company s mobile marketing strategy to support
Elliott s new line of sportswear.
What is Adidas position in the athletic shoe market?
Starting out post World War II, Adidas was an important provider of the national German soccer team.
Later, Adidas they changed their marketing approach to expand their products to fringe sports, such as
high jumping and bobsledding. By the 1990s, Adidas secured their global sales on soccer footwear. In
1998, Adidas began to focus on the U.S market. By sponsoring some famous basketball players such
as Kobe Bryant and by doing so Adidas was able to gain doubled market share.

Edward Gibbon s Declaration Of The Reign
Edward Gibbon s declaration of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being the most happy and
prosperous time in the history of the human race bases its claims on what could be viewed as
superficial aspects of the empire. When studying the Roman Empire, it s difficult to not admire the
stunning works, such as the House of Fawn in Herculaneum or Hadrian s Villa. The wealth needed to
create such places indicates the prosperity within the empire during this time. Gibbons claimed
understanding on happiness and prosperity seem to have less to do with the personal lives of the
human race and more with what physically surrounded the human race during this period of reign. The
claim by Gibbons seems to focus on the benevolent paternalism that ... Show more content on

If you were a prisoner of war coming to see the Forum in attempts to assimilate into this most happy
and prosperous society, you were faced with images of your ancestors as captives. The forum catered
to a specific class of Roman citizens and did not act as a place where the average Roman man or
woman felt represented. In addition to the works of Trajan, Hadrian s Wall can also superficially
symbolize the happiness and prosperity of the Roman Empire as asserted by Gibbons. The emperor
Hadrian built Hadrian s Wall after returning from his visit to Britain. The construction of the wall was
an attempt by Hadrian to set up permanent borders for the Roman Empire and show the strength that
the Roman Empire had during the reign of Hadrian by doing so. The construction of the wall, while
showing strength and wealth, also can symbolize the empires struggle with its borders, and even more
so, citizenship. The wall itself symbolized the Roman Empire s tensions with the peoples surrounding
the empire. The wall showed how the empire needed a structural device to maintain some level of
peace within the empire. The idea of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being a time of prosperity
can also be understood when looking at the changing roles of women within the empire. Women
during this time period were treated differently than the woman before them. While it s difficult to
assert definitively whether or not women were more respected during this

The Case Involving Bmw And Dollar General
I have already talked about the case involving BMW and Dollar General, presenting Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission s revised guidance regarding usage of conviction records in
hiring decisions. And this shed some light on discussed issues, but in order to attain wide, broad
standpoint, other cases should be examined.
In their article Callier, Huss and Juengst present this controversial case revolving around the problem
of criminal records and hiring. Recently, University of Akron enacted the policy that would require
blanket criminal background checks for all prospective UA employees, excluding student employees.
The mere fact that this policy was set should already interest and alert a thoughtful reader; however,
this is not the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe there two main interconnected problems: the issue of ethicality and legality. It is acceptable
to collect genetic DNA samples. To put it bluntly, is it okay to do so? The answer is no. Here is the
explanation why.
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOP) insists that when it comes to issue of getting
genetic information, aim to discriminate is insignificant and it does not matter whether or not one
intended to discriminate. I agree that such practice is not right, especially from an ethical standpoint.
But it seems wrong even from legal viewpoint. The commission argues An employer who asks for
information and then acquires genetic information as a result of that request, runs in violation of GINA
. Therefore, it is unlawful thing to do. This is legal issue. What about ethical side?
Although I grant that there is no obligation that an employer receives an information to discriminate or
there is no such a rule that the employer obtains information to have genetic information, I still
maintain that this is not right thing to do, because it may entail amplification of discrimination. EEOP
supports my disagreement: the fact that they re acquiring genetic information to begin with violates
the rule itself . Again, it is confirmed that University s policy go against GINA and now ethical aspect
is present. The problem here is that by collecting DNA samples, University of Akron creates basis for

Marriage and Individuality
God created marriage as a union between man and woman. A woman, while still having a mind of her
own and control over her own life, is under the authority of her husband. This frightens some women,
who fear oppression at the hands of their husbands. While it is true that some men abuse the system
that God set up for man and woman, not all men act as such. The Bible states monogamy is what God
laid down as a foundational law of marriage,
[...the Creator made them male and female...] For this reason a man will leave his father and mother
and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh ? So they are no longer two, but one
flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. (Mathew 19.5 6).
Although many women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harriet finds Phoebe, an old friend from her years in college, interesting, because her marriage is like
a dream. She has not changed a bit, and although she has children, she and her husband continue to go
gallivanting about the world in search of adventure (Sayers, 14 15). Though Phoebe and her husband
are not very successful parents, Phoebe s marriage is one of the success stories that begin to change
Harriet s mindset about the concept of marriage from it being repulsive to it being something
desirable. Marriage is works through compromise between the husband and wife; a woman who does
not wish to be a housewife, but prefers to work can discuss her feelings with her husband in order to
generate a resolution that leaves both the adults and the children happy with the result.
Marriage is a union of two people, melding their old lives with their new one. Mark and Jane insist on
maintaining entirely separate lives, which keeps their marriage from working (That Hideous Strength,
12). Lord and Lady Wimsey are able to live happily as a married couple because they communicate
with one another (Talboys, 32). When a couple is united, they can combat any force that comes against
them. In Talboys, Harriet s whole opinion on the institution of marriage has shifted. She and her
husband, Lord Peter Wimsey, get along very well, and she is still able to write, and he, detect criminal
proceedings with uncanny accuracy. She has come to the realization that she

Science In The 1600s
Thought history scientists finding have been ignored, only to be discovered that their information was
beneficial. In the 1600s and 1700s, many astronomers and mechanics were focused on finding a way
to find the longitude of a ship s position at sea. John Harrison, a self taught carpenter and clockmaker
was able to create a solution, but no one with enough power to enforce his studies would listen to his
ideas. Similar to this, when Nicolaus Copernicus discovered that the earth revolved around the sun, no
one believed him because the belief at the time was that the earth was the center of the universe.
Despite no one appreciating what the two had discovered, several years after they had died, their
theories surfaced again and people began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First off, the two men worked in different fields of science. John Harrison worked in geography and
Copernicus worked in astronomy. Geography is the study of land and the relationships between the
land and the communities living in the area. If one studies geography, they also study the physical
properties of the land and how the people and animals use the land. Astronomy is the study of
astronomic objects, space and the physical universe. Besides this difference, Harrison had an
immediate successor to continue pressing the ideas of using clocks to solve the longitude issue.
Copernicus, on the other hand, had no one to help him continue his work once he had died; no one
wanted to be associated with his work because the Church had renounced it. Both men faced struggles
during their scientific career, but Harrison s work was able to continue to grow while Copernicus s
work came to a halt for several

Stylistic Devices In The Giant Wistaria
Final Analysis Writers of works of literature have long employed various stylistic devices to execute
their literary objectives. Some of these stylistic devices include but are not limited to the use of
settings, theme, and characters. Furthermore, such works can be analyzed, understood and interpreted
through the lens of theories such as Feminism, Post colonialism, and Existentialism. The use of
various stylistic devices in service of the exploration of various literary theories serves to make
literature vibrant, richer, and much more useful to the society in which the work is produced. Through
the use of the mentioned stylistic devices, writers are able to demonstrate links that exist between their
works of literature and theories such as Feminism, Post colonialism, and Existentialism.
Analyzing The Giant Wistaria Using the Feminism Theory Feminism, as a movement, can be defined
as the struggle that seeks to do away with institutionalized patriarchy. Additionally, it has the aim of
championing for the social, political, economic, and cultural equality between the sexes. In doing this,
feminism permeates all levels of society and cannot, therefore, be restricted to specific disciplines.
This is how ideas of Feminism abound in literature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

demonstrated in his short story. Equally, the experience of Philip Jeyaretnam in post colonial
Singapore has also influenced his short story. In all these short stories, the writers made use of various
stylistic devices that would work in service of the greater philosophical underpinnings of the theories
of Feminism, Post colonialism, and

Slavery And The United States
In modern society, people often try for minority groups to feel equal to majorities, however, when
slavery existed, blacks were undermined and denied many freedoms entitled to them under the
Constitution. There were many topics argued about, but slavery caused the most dispute within the
country. In the 1850 s, the pro slavery South and the anti slavery North collided when the case of Dred
Scott, a black slave who attempted to gain liberation, was brought to court. The North and South had
vastly different views on the subject of slavery, Scott had resided in the free state of Illinois with his
master, illegally, after being taken from the slave state of Missouri. His residency in Illinois, which
was a free state, automatically nullified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because he had been held as a slave illegally, and ultimately denied the nullification of his status, he
was therefore entitled to petition his liberation and gain freedom.
Based on the slavery laws in Illinois where he resided, Dred Scott should have been liberated as he
had legal standing to file a lawsuit against the government. His freedoms had been denied and when
he was held illegally as a slave in the state of Illinois, these facts were not acknowledged when he
proposed his freedoms, and therefore, had every right to petition his liberation. Debate of the
constitutionality of The Missouri Compromise caused controversy within the Dred Scott case. The
Missouri Compromise came about in 1818, when Missouri petitioned to become a slave state. At the
time, there were 22 states, 11 slave and 11 non slave states; there was balance of representation in
senate. The house of representatives, however, proposed an amendment that would ban the
importation of slaves, and eventually all slavery. This bill was passed, and then moved on to senate
where a modified version was passed that did not contain any restrictions on slavery. The house
refused to accept the modifications made, and the bill was never passed. In 1819, Maine petitions for
acceptance into the union but as a free state. When both petitions passed, Missouri was then
reconsidered. Slavery

The Importance Of Romantic Love
Love is a tricky thing. I, as I m sure many of us, grew up with the notion that happiness was an outside
job, that I was not actually in charge of my own happiness. For me, I learned, through some really
terrible examples, that I needed to depend on others to feel happy, fulfilled, whole, and so romantic
love became very sticky. It became a game of trying to figure out what I needed to say and do to try
and get the other person to do what I thought I needed them to do in order for me to feel safe, to feel
that my needs would be met, to feel happy.
Just typing that last sentence feels complicated. And that s exactly what romantic love became.... a
very complicated strategical endeavor. The only thing that this (very Ego) strategy ends up doing is
creating resentment. I would resent my partners for not doing what I wanted them to do and they
would resent me for requiring so much of them and putting unjust pressure on them. It was not a good
plan at all!
Eventually as I started down my path to self discovery I caught on to the whole make yourself happy
thing. I got better and better at it with time and practice, but there was still a rub when it came to
romantic love. I was still coming into romantic love full of need. Maybe it didn t start out that way but
it always seemed to end up that way.
And then the resentment would set in.
For me it took a really significant life event to begin come out of the game . I remember the exact day
many, many months later,

The Communist Manifesto By Sigmund Freud
Sigmund Freud, was a neurologist that mainly focused on psychoanalytical theories for psychology.
His most famous research was done during the late 19th and early 20th century, in which during this
time he wrote one of his most famous works Civilization and Its Discontents. In this book of his,
Freud manages to draw on many Enlightenment ideals and challenges some of these notions through
his theoretical analysis on the subconscious mind. In this book of his, Freud proposes that individual s
minds are divided into three distinct parts comprised of the ego, super ego, and the id. In his analysis
on these three parts of the mind, Freud encourageous individuals to regard their mind in emotional

In this paper of his, Marx tackles many Enlightenment ideals but also challenges many with his
analysis on class struggle (bourgeoisie vs. working class), capitalism, and the development of society
as a result of these struggles. Marx s main proposal in The Communist Manifesto is that of historical
materialism , which is basically self divided into two parts: historically and materialistic. Historically,
Marx defines history as a change from the past to present in which the present relies on analysis of the
past to ensure progress. Furthermore, Marx regards that relations in the past have continually been
subject to historical change consequent upon the change in historical conditions .7 The analysis of the
past is consequent with the present as it is dependent with progress. Without analyzing the past, Marx
is stating that society in general will not learn from the class struggles that so aptly occupied society
during that time. The materialistic aspect of this, is prominent through Marx s explanation that the
economy of a society does not necessarily lead to distress and chaos in society, furthermore the
economy of a society is not to blame. In many ways Marx says that following every historical period,
the prevailing mode of economic production and exchange, and the social organization necessarily
following from it, form the basis upon which it is built up [...] .8

Lessons Learned From My Peers
The first feedback I received from my peers was very crucial into the development in my final essay.
In my draft, I had two short essay. One about how dirt bike riding was important to me, and the other
on how someone who affected me wrongfully but developed me into the person I am today. Out of
five of my peers, they all chose the essay to do with my bullying. My peers thought that the first two
paragraphs on my essay needed to be taken out because it was lot of plot. They wanted me to get
straight to the point like I was in the third paragraph. They wanted me to make a stronger thesis and
install more imagery into the essay. My grammar needed improvement and so did my vocabulary.
They loved when I talked about how this experience shaped me today and how it has helped me a
better person overall. My peers noticed and really liked the fact that I mentioned that I am happy with
myself no matter what someone says about me. My instructor really liked the story of the essay but

The feedback I did use was to delete the paragraphs that did not explain the story or were just boring
and just get straight to the point like I did in the last paragraph. I also decided to accept the feedback
on adding a specific event that had in my life and how it really changed me. I accepted the feedback
on adding stronger words as well. I denied the comment or feedback on how I should delete the essay

Employment For Former Prisoners Essay
Former prisoners face larger barriers because US current policies are preventing or decreasing their
chance of obtaining certain jobs that will dominate the market in the next twenty years. According to
the U.S. Department of Justice, nearly every person in jail, and 95 percent of state prison inmates, will
someday be released; however, about 68% may return to prison (goodwill). Former incarcerated
individuals are often ineligible to obtain any financial assistance that will allow them to enroll in post
secondary institutions, which is required by many high demand industries. According to transitional

Consequently, former incarcerated individuals will become in danger of remaining a permanent lower
class because they have many limitations on the type of jobs that will be available to them, which
mostly pays minimum wages. To make matters worse, many former incarcerated individuals do not
obtain much education, which will diminish their ability of facing the challenges of 21st century
workforce and reduce any chance for a high quality of life. Many inmates may possibly entered prison
without obtaining any high school credentials, which could be one of the reasons that recidivism
remains prominent. Three quarters of state prison inmates are dropouts, as are 59% of federal inmates.
In fact, dropouts are 3.5 times more likely than high school graduates to be incarcerated in their
lifetime (AYPF). Many of these prisoners may have been incarcerated for a long period of time;
consequently, causing their skills to become more obsolete compare to skills that were required before
they entered the penal system. The development of technology, scientific, and medical programs may
not be as prominent and sophisticated as it was before their arrest, especially since United States just
recently proposed implementing 21st century courses in secondary institutions. State prisoners
average a tenth grade education and score below their grade level on cognitive tests (Western 2008).

How Did Norse Mythology Change The World
The Norse used to believe that it was an honor to die in battle and that if you did so you would be
rewarded in the afterlife in Valhalla. The modern portrayal of Norse mythology however view death as
a heavy loss and try everything in their power to save lives. Changing the world was another concept
that the new and old Norse myths differ on. The old Norse believed they could not change fate but
simply postpone it and the modern Norse believe that they can change fate and take control of it. The
modern Norse try not to fight if they can; Odin from the Thor movie wanted peace but Odin from the
myths would have fought to the death. So through the themes of loss, resolve, and fate we can see that
the concept of heroism change throughout the years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

John Keynes And Friedrich Hayek
John Keynes and Friedrich Hayek where two of the most influential economic minds of the 20th
century. Each of these men s ideas had a great impact on the economy of numerous countries and
helped countries find economic success different times. Keynes and Hayek had opposite ideas on what
created a working economy that would be successful and avoid economical depressions like that of the
United States great depression and the European depressions that resulted from the two World Wars.
Keynes believes that the best way to maintain a strong economy was to have government
micromanage any and all aspects of the economy. He believes that in order to maintain full
employment of citizens, countries must spend money to create jobs and to help struggling companies.
Hayes believes that this was not the answer and would only result in more problems. Hayes felt that a
market will be able to take care of its self and in order to ensure this government needed to avoid
intervention to allow for a free economy to develop. During the time of war Keynes ideas were more
successful because the government was able to make a large quantity of jobs for people through goods
needed for the war. Since Keynes ideas were so widely used and accepted at this time, Hayek s ideas
were rejected and considered bad because the purposed to do the opposite. After the good 30 years
Keynes economic ideas began to show flaws through inflation and unemployment rates. This issue

Analysis Of The Tuesday Wars By S. D. Hollings
Some books are so different even though they are in the same time period.
The authors of these book, S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders, and Gary D. Schmidt, The Wednesday Wars,
did a great job at making these books. The main characters, Ponyboy and Holling, are well thought
out. The Outsiders is a book about a boy who is a gang and have lost his parents. The gang is a part of
the Greasers, the poor kids, who are always attacked by the Socs., the rich kids. One day Ponyboy and
Johnny are attacked and Johnny kills one. They run away where they save kids from a burning church.
They get burns and are rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile Ponyboy and Greasers are having a rumble
with the Socs. After the rumble Johnny dies in the hospital and Dally is killed by police because he
wanted to die. The Wednesday Wars is about a 7th grader who thinks his teacher hates him. He doesn t
have parents who care about him and sister thinks he has no guts. He learns that Mrs. Baker is actually
nice when she helps him practice for events such as the play and track meet. His dad however is only
thinking about business and not about his kids. Holling eventually stands up to him. The characters
have plenty of differences between them from their parents, to the personality, but they have the same

The Importance Of Crop Biodiversity
Crop Biodiversity is a very important to the world we know. As populations grow around the world
people are going to consume more food. This can cause a problem without crop biodiversity. Crop
biodiversity is the outcome of the interactions among genetic resources, the environment and the
management systems and practices used by farmers. This is the result of both natural selection and
human interventions and human inventive developed over millennia. Crop diversity helps when trying
feeding growing populations with smaller amount of cropland. Crop biodiversity is used in several
different ways like pest control, pollination, pollution and sediment regulation, maintenance of the
hydrological cycle, erosion control, and climate regulation and carbon sequestration.
Crop diversity in pest control has made a big impact on growing crops in areas that are dominated by
pests that would eat up a crop as soon as it flowers. Crop biodiversity has made crops able to
withstand roundup and different types of pesticides, which keep pests off the crops while they are
growing. Thus letting crops grow to their full potential in area of the country that before crop diversity
wouldn t have been able to happen. This helps in utilizing land for growing crops to feed growing
populations when good land is being utilized for building structures.
Crop biodiversity is also used to keep food safety obtainable in the growing world of food safety
programs like the FDA. The FDA ensures every crop being

Examples Of Flashback In My Antonia
The book, My Antonia, can be a historical text due to the constant flashbacks the narrator of the story
tells in a nostalgic fashion. The first such example in the book where the narrator has a flashback is
when he and Jim Burton run into each other on a train and the conversation that follows about a
Bohemian girl they both knew. During that burning day when we were crossing Iowa, our talk kept
returning to a central figure, a Bohemian girl whom we had both known long ago. More than any
other person we remembered, this girl seemed to mean to us the country, the conditions, the whole
adventure of our childhood (Cather, 1918, p. 2). In this quote, the narrator focuses on a figure in his
and Jim Burton s childhood that had a major effect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story, there is a part where Jim and Antonia are sitting on a roof, watching an electrical storm,
talking about life. Presently we saw a curious thing: There were no clouds, the sun was going down in
a limpid, gold washed sky. Just as the lower edge of the red disc rested on the high fields against the
horizon, a great black figure suddenly appeared on the face of the sun. We sprang to our feet, straining
our eyes toward it. In a moment we realized what it was. On some upland farm, a plough had been left
standing in the field. The sun was sinking just behind it. Magnified across the distance by the
horizontal light, it stood out against the sun, was exactly contained within the circle of the disk; the
handles, the tongue, the share black against the molten red. There it was, heroic in size, a picture

The Influence Of The Art Of Art
Art is an expression of free speech in a sense. However, some seek to influence and sensor an
individual s artistic expression. Socrates believes that banning certain works of art from his ideal city
is the best course of action for everyone. I will argue that Socrates is correct in his assessment that
controlling the flow of art is for the betterment of society. By banning certain works of art, the souls of
the young can be molded into an image that loves truth and honesty. Socrates says So our first task, it
seems, is to supervise the storytellers: if they make up a good story, we must accept it; if not, we must
reject it. (Republic II, 377B). The objection is that such policies suppress the individuals right to
autonomy, and to decide for themselves what is virtuous and what is not. Nonetheless, Socrates
believes that restricting art is the best course of action. The influence of the bad art and the good art
will take effect in the mind of the individual throughout society. Such as the stories of the gods,
Socrates believes that the gods must be represented in a good light. Then kids will emulate good
hearted behavior. If their mothers read stories about the horrible crimes the gods committed, then the
children might grow up to believe that such immorality is normal and acceptable. If those children
grow up to become adults and leaders of society, then society would become callous and unjust. An
unjust city is the antithesis of an ideal city, which is what Socrates

Existentialism In Mrs. Dalloway s Waiting For Godot
As a result of both World Wars, many who had been disillusioned by romanticized ideas of war were
shocked by the abrupt pain and loss they experienced. Due to the excruciating catastrophe of War,
people lost faith in religion and humanity and ultimately felt as though life lacked a meaningful
purpose. This pessimistic view of life brought upon the emergence of existentialism as a prominent
philosophical belief in society. Many Existentialists believed that our lives are ultimately meaningless
and that our existence is comprised entirely of our actions; we must acknowledge that our lives occur
while we are waiting for our inevitable deaths. Mrs. Dalloway and Waiting for Godot both exemplify
through their characters that human life and experiences are comprised of the small moments in which
we are collectively waiting for something. This idea of waiting for something is essential to the human
experience because many existentialists of the eras, in which these stories were written, ultimately
believe that a reality in which evils can occur, such as a World War, could not possibly have a caring
God and that our existence must be made up solely of the actions that are performed in the time spent
waiting, Becket would argue naively, for something to occur.
Mrs. Dalloway takes place in an England which was recovering from the ravishes of the first World
War. Following the war, many people began to lose faith in organized religion because they could not

Fingerprint Identification
1. INTRODUCTION In order to protect users of computer systems and to secure network based
transactions, demand is increasing for improved user authentication procedures to establish the
identity of an actual user and to bar access to a terminal to anyone who is unauthorized. Personal
identification using biometrics, i.e., a person s physical or behavioral characteristics has come to
attract increased attention as a possible solution to this issue and one that might offer reliable systems
at a reasonable cost. While traditionally this technology has been available only with such expensive,
high end systems as those used in law enforcement and other government applications, today many

3. FINGERPRINT SENSING TECHNOLOGY:
A Fingerprint is a pattern of fine ridges and valleys (spaces between ridges) on the surface of a finger
and fingerprint sensor makes a digitized image of it. The sensing resolution is 500ppi (pixel per inch;
also known as 500dpi, i.e., dots per inch) in most cases, which is equivalent to 20 pixels in 1
millimeter. The obtained image size is typically in the range of between 300*300 and 512*512 pixels,
which makes the area covering the fingerprint between 15 to 25 millimeters square.
FINGERPRINT SENSING TYPES:
a. Conventional prism Type Optical Sensor
Optical sensors using a prism have long been used as a common (and formerly the only) capture
device. In them, the light from an LED illuminates a finger placed on a prism and its reflected image
is captured by a small, optical sensing device (e.g., a CCD or CMOS imager chip), as in Fig.2. This

One s identity is the most important lesson to be learned. It is vital part of life knowing who you are in
order to live a fulfilled life. Without knowing your identity, and the way you perceive life, it is
difficult for others to understand you, along with a struggle to live a happy life. In Sylvia Plath s The
Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood struggles to find her own identity, and in the process, she develops a
mental illness which helps her discover the person she is on the inside. In her search for identity,
Esther often compares herself to others. One sign of depression is the feeling the need to compare

At the beginning of the novel, Esther describes her life as a tornado. I felt very still and very empty,
the way the eye of a tornado must feel, moving dully along in the middle of he surrounding
hullabaloo. (3) Esther feels as if the world is going crazy and spinning around her, yet she is standing
still in the eye of the storm, not knowing which direction to move in. When Buddy Willard comes to
visit in chapter five, they talk about a poem, however, Esther is day dreaming about an imaginary
conversation she wishes the would have. Throughout the novel, Esther struggled with what she felt
how a woman in her society should act. At times, she feels as if there is no point to college because
most women only become secretaries anyway. She feels as if she should be learning short hand and
other techniques she should be learning for the secretary roll, however she does not want to. Esther
wants to be a writer, however, during the time of the novel, society gave women the role as housewife.
Esther felt pressure to settle down and start a family. No matter what accomplishments Esther
achieves in her life, it doesn t matter too much because they will not do her much in her later life.
Everyone expects Esther to marry buddy and start a family. Once she becomes a mother, it would be
assumed that she would give up her passion for writing. This discourages Esther because she is not
sure that is what she wants with her life. The role models in the novel have a

The book of Genesis contains various creation, flood and patriarchal narratives. Genesis was written
in a certain time and place, to a certain audience, with a certain meaning intended by the original
author. However, Genesis wasn t the only source in regards to creation, flood and patriarchal
narratives throughout the Near East during this time. In fact, the accounts in Genesis took place at a
later time than some of the other literature in the Near East. It also could be argued that the authors of
Genesis were influenced by the culture in their writings. The goal will be to show how each kind of

Why or why not? The short answer to this question is yes. Genesis s flood story can be thought of as
written by other couple sources, authors J and P (Hays 90). Author J is the older manuscript and
Author P is the redactor. Author J is identified because of the use of Yahweh. Author P is likely the
priestly redactor that would not use the holy name of Yahweh. Priest would instead us the word Lord.
Another way source division is identifiable is through doublets that seem to occur throughout the
Genesis narrative. Some of the doublets contradict one another therefore leading one to believe there
are more than one author. For example, Author J states that seven pairs of ritually clean and one pair
of unclean animals were taken aboard the Ark then 40 days of rain ensued. The later redactor, Author
P , seems to transpose a different (Babylonian) account of 2 pairs of animals and 150 days of rain
(Hays 91) Best explanation is that P and J has been harmonized over time, both full stories, then
redaction by a later

The Supreme Court Of Canada Decision Essay
Introduction You have asked me to summarize the Supreme Court of Canada decision in Doré v
Barreau du Québec, 2012 SCC 12, SCR 395 and analyze whether the Law society is likely to sanction
Evan Frank. Although the Rules of Professional Conduct place limitations on certain conduct to
ensure professionalism, the expressive rights of lawyers must be given due respect and the likelihood
of Mr. Frank s sanction will depend on a fair balance of expressive value of the content in the letter,
with the public s expectation of professionalism. Case summary: Doré v Barreau du Québec During a
criminal proceeding where the appellant, Mr. Doré was the defence council in the Superior court of
Quebec, he was subject to personal attacks by Justice Boilard. Taking offence from the personal
attacks, he wrote a letter to the judge, which included attacks on the judge s professionalism, social
skills, and shaming him as a judge. (Doré, at Para. 10) A complaint was filed against Mr. Doré, by the
Syndic du Barreau for violation of article 2.03 of the Code of ethics of advocates, R.R.Q. 1981, c. B 1,
r.1, and oath of office. The article stated that the conduct of an advocate must bear the stamp of
objectivity, moderation and dignity (Para. 13) which the judicial council concluded that Mr. Doré
violated. The Judicial council, rejecting Mr. Dore s claim that the letter was private, concluded that
Judge Boilard s conduct did not justify the content in letter. (Doré, at para.16) The issue before

In the quot;Custom House, quot; written as an introduction to The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne gives an
autobiographical description of his life and times. The detailed descriptions of the scenes and people
not only prepare the reader for the author s style, but also aim at recreating the author s past. The
preface concentrates on the author s period of service at the Custom House during which time he came
into contact with several people and had the opportunity to study human behavior. The description of
his co employees and others shows the author s deft hand at characterization, which is revealed during

CHAPTER 1: The Prison Door
The first chapter gives a description of the dark and gloomy nature of the prison that was established
in the quot;vicinity of Cornhill quot; by the early settlers. The prison is described as an quot;ugly
edifice quot; and quot;black flower of civilized society quot;. Weeds grow in front of the gloomy
structure, where a group of Puritans, dressed normally in their dull clothing, has gathered. The only
positive image in the whole setting is a single rosebush that stands beside the weeds. It foreshadows
that there will be some brightness amidst this quot;tale of human frailty and sorrow. quot;
Notes
The purpose of this opening chapter is to set the scene for the novel in seventeenth century
Boston. A crowd of Puritans has gathered at the prison and as always, they wear quot;sad colored
quot; clothing. The description of the dark and gloomy prison sets the mood for the entire story and
foreshadows the situations of Hester Prynne and Arthur Dimmesdale. She is outwardly
quot;imprisoned quot; for her sin through her alienation and isolation; he is inwardly quot;imprisoned
quot; by his mental anguish and deterioration. Hawthorne obviously chooses to begin his

good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful
than it was before the building was built (Frank Lloyd Wright). Throughout the centuries, architecture
has fascinated everyone. History is inscribed in buildings and they can express the political and
economic power of a nation. Although time has gone by, buildings have not. You can still idolize
ancient Egyptian and Greek architecture and see how the events that occurred at that time influenced
them. Although buildings from as far as the ancient times are still standing strong today, they had few

Previously, metals weren t in sufficient quantities and in consistent enough quality. This meant that
buildings were limited to materials found in nature, such as stone, clay, timber, limestone, and
concrete. However, not only did the Industrial Revolution change the world, but it also changed
architecture. During this century, the worldwide production of iron was 825,000 tons, and by 1900, it
rose up to nearly 50 times more. The most commonly used form of iron was steel, which was not only
stronger and versatile, but was also tensile and had compressive strength greater than any other
material previously used before. Although steel allowed architects to design much taller buildings with
a lot more interior space, there was one major flaw that prevented architects from doing so. To cement
a new friendship, especially between foreigners or persons of a different social world, a spark with
which both were secretly charged must fly from person to person, and cut across the accidents of place
and time (Elisha Graves Otis). Elevators have been known to exist since the Roman era. They were
created with a basic pulley system that were operated by either humans, animals, or water power. For
example, Rome s Coliseum had 12 elevators that hoisted up the gladiators and wild animals from one
stage floor to the next. In England, elevators were powered by a steam machine or a hydraulic pump
and were used to bring up the monarch s food more

ARGUMENT: THE RELEASE FROM THE BODILY EGO
Many recent studies on visual culture highlight the representation of the body in photography as a
signifier of social constructions. Photography however has always played an important part in the
construction of the subject, a perspective that I suggest in what follows, one that combines analytical
concepts with aspects of the phenomenology of perception, indispensable for the understanding of art
works and of our relation to them.
By contrast with the overexposure of the body in commercial photography, photographers in ... Show

of the self. Instead of showing old people , her photographs become carriers of optical distortions,
signifiers of self perception and self representation. Rather than an instrument more or less adapted to
the necessities of life, the body is shown as something concurrently solid, stable, and changing,
movable. A paradox epitomized in the phrasing of the philosopher Marc
Richir as: an inner statue, infinitely labile and moving, ephemeral and changing in its manifestations.
(11)
An art photography perspective on aging connected to time, movement, and change neither documents
nor sentimentalizes but, I would argue, contributes to a creative rethinking of aging. Significantly, I
will not approach aging as a state (documented by the photographic image) but as a process of growth
(that is, of subject construction, and of shaping, adapting subjectivity to new parameters). In this
dynamics of change and becoming rather than a destructive agent, time is conceived of as a formative
category and a source of creativity.
How can photography visualize aspects of aging that do not merely correspond in a documentary way
to visible realities? How are such complex psychic structures as those related to aging translated into
visual patterns? These are the

Exercise is one of the quickest and easiest ways to lose weight; and it s favorable to you. If you re

The Pelagic Zone
The pelagic zone of the ocean is also commonly called the open ocean. In depth in extends from the
surface, down to the deepest trenches. However, it does not include the coasts, near shorelines. The
pelagic zone consists of five layers; the epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathypelagic, abyssopelagic, and the
hadopelagic subzone. The first zone, the epipelagic zone, also known as the euphotic zone extends
from the surface of the water to 200 meters. This is the most commonly explored and known portion
of the pelagic zone. This is where we scuba dive, fish, go on our cruises, or boat commercially. This
portion of the ocean is home to most of the fish and mammals we know the best. Such as, sharks,
dolphins, sea turtles, seals, corals, rays, jellyfish, sailfish, whales and many other creatures. These all
trace back to the photosynthetic planktons that form the basis of the food chain in this layer. The
epipelagic subzone is also characterized by it s abundance of light. allowing for the necessary
photosynthesis to take place. The next layer of the pelagic zone is the mesopelagic, this subzone
extends from 200 1000 meters deep. There is very little light, not enough for photosynthesis. This
layer, also called the twilight zone is home to fish such as; big scale fish, ctenophores, firefly squid,
hatchet fish, snipe eels and siphonophores. These fish have some odd adaptations, one example would

Theme Of Corruption In Animal Farm
George Orwell the author of Animal Farm and Barry Levinson director of the Cinematic production
Wag the Dog both explore in their texts the corruption of society. Various key ideas are explored to
expose Corruption and highlight how powers use manipulation and half truths to gain and retain
control. To make their ideas prudent to the audience, Orwell and Levinson make use of various literary
and filmic techniques, most prominent of these in both texts is the use of Irony. These texts influence
the audience directly to consider the potential foley of human forms of governance which is timely to

The Author George Orwell and the Directer Barry Levinson express in their texts Animal Farm and

the narrative perspective of the working animals where as Levinson exposes the already set corruption
through a narrative perspective of the fixers. This third person limited perspective allows the irony in

Advantages Of Statutory Damages
The United States is an outlier in the global copyright committee in giving the plaintiffs in copyright
cases the option to elect, any time before the final judgment, to receive an award of statutory damages.
The statutory damages may be granted to an amount between the ranges of $750 to $150,000 per
infringed work. As the name suggests, Statutory damages are damages whose amount or range is set
by law, usually not taking into consideration the actual harm suffered by the plaintiff. Statutory
damages to the defendants can be seen as a multiplier of liability, especially in cases whereby claims,
or parties, are aggregated. On the other hand, statutory damages is a procedural advantage for the
plaintiffs as it allows them to simplify their proofs and awards them damages without the need to
proffer evidence of actual injury. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

provisions can accelerate lawsuits. Statutory damages can be beneficial at times because the damages
might be hard to quantify or prove. Simplifying plaintiff s proof can be an additional incentive to

U.S Slavery History and North Korean Life
Slavery was, and is, the mistreatment of people as property. Slavery in British colonies dates all the
way back to 1619 when African Americans first arrived in Jamestown, Virginia. As soon as the
African Americans arrived they were no longer considered to be human . Slaves were property;
therefore they could be traded and sold. Slaves were cruelly whipped if they did something their
master did not approve of. Some slave owners were so violent that they whipped their slaves until they
bled and then they would rub salt into the wounds. Morosely, slaves were so horribly mistreated, some
chose to take their own lives over continuing to be a slave. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued the

The North was extremely hard. Many houses were 10 to 20 miles apart, which meant slaves had to
move fast! Harriet Tubman helped 300 slaves achieve freedom within 19 trips. North Korea also has a
very helpful underground railroad. The North Korean Underground Railroad is a horrendous path
across China that leads to South Korea. It is a treacherous path because China sends about 200 North
Korean refugees back to North Korea each day. As soon as North Koreans are sent back, they either
end up in jail, in a prison camp or are killed. Similar to white people helping African American slaves
escape to freedom, many Chinese and South Korean people try and help North Koreans escape as
well. China does not want refugees to live in their country. Surprisingly, 300 thousand North Korean
refugees live in China because they managed to escape. Along the dangerous journey through China,
there are houses and helpers for those escaping North Korea. It is a shame that some people and
countries are afraid to help North Koreans because of all the powerful weapons that North Korea has
acquired. In conclusion, underground railroads have helped, and still are, helping many individuals
and families have a better life. Thankfully, as soon as slaves reached Canada, or any free Northern U.S

A Brief Note On The National Fire Protection Association
In 1970 s a person home will be engulfed in flames in 17 minutes, today, three minutes, what
changed? In the 1970 s homes were almost made to prevent the spread of fire. The National Fire
Protection Association or NFPA were making stronger codes and stricter standers for homes. Today
they are still in effect, but a fire in today s home can spread five times quicker. The reason why today s
home catches on fire quicker is how the house is made of, the house layout, the furniture in the home,
and how to prevent such a fire.
In 1970 s homes were not made with engineered lumber. Engineered lumber is made from wood,
chips, sawdust and glue. The lumber is used in 65% of construction. Plywood is the biggest couplet
for engineered lumber. The European Science and Research Institute did a test to see what plywood
burns faster. They tested many different types of wood that was plywood; however what burned the
most was the modified plywood. Even the pine plywood that was runner up was not even close to how
fast the modified plywood was burning. During the 70s the plywood people used was the local wood
around them. For example cypress plywood is used mainly in Florida and Hemlock was mainly used
in and around Tennessee. While today most homes are made of this designed wood that can burn
faster. What s even a bigger problem is that firefighters don t want to go into a modern home because
of wooden I beam joints. I beam joints hold the floor together and if it fails the floor collapses.

US, a motel in Georgia refused to allow African American customers into their 216 room motel even
after the Civil Rights Act. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation in public places and banned
employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. The motel sued
United states because they thought the prohibition of racial discrimination contained in Title II of the
Civil Rights Act represented an invalid exercise of Congress s constitutional power to regulate
interstate commerce. Since the motel was a private business they believed that congress had no right
to make them choose their customers. The question that was answered in this case was did Congress,
in passing Title II of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, exceed its Commerce Clause powers by depriving
motels, such as the Heart of Atlanta, of the right to choose their own

The Effects Of Slavery On American South And Its Entire...
Between 1800 and 1865, slaves lived in the Southern States and worked in the tobacco, wheat, rice,
corn and cotton plantations. Essentially, slavery was an economic institution with far reaching benefits
to slaveholders, since the value of slave labor was considerably more than the cost of their
maintenance. Demands for democratization, respect for human dignity and American Civil War
presented a major turning point in the institution of slavery as farmers turned to lesser labor intensive
production methods such as the use of Eli Whitney s Cotton Gin. This paper analyzes different ways
in which institution of Slavery affected the development of American South between 1800 1865, and
the lives of people living in the region. In doing so the paper considers economic, political, social and
cultural implications of the institution.
Although slaves and slaveholders were significantly different, the Institution of Slavery negatively
impacted the American South and its entire population.
Economic Effects Prevalence of a less diversified southern economic approach was a condition that
negatively impacted the economic progress. With cheap labor from slaves, the South prevalently
practiced agriculture at the expense of market economies. While significant in farming, slave labor
made farmers more complacent in agricultural production. The situation inevitably led to reluctance in
establishing sustainable trade networks with other States in the North. As Wright (2006)

Gall Gun Double Peace Essay
Houdai Kudoki, the protagonist of Gal*Gun: Double Peace, is just an ordinary student until one day
he catches the attention of a trainee angel named Ekoro. Although she simply means to give him a
small boost in popularity, an untimely interruption by a passing demon girl causes her to blast Houdai
with an extra powerful shot. Houdai finds himself suddenly being irresistible to every girl in the
academy, but this turns out to be more of a curse than a blessing. Not only does the constant attention
from every girl drain his energy, but he only has until sundown to find his one true love or he will end
up alone forever. To make matters even more complicated there is a demon girl running around
causing mischief with two demon hunters hot on her trail. With the help of players, Houdai must
escape the throngs of adoring girls, track down the love of his life and help thwart the demon girl.
Houdai only has one way to protect himself from the legions of adoring girls rushing at him to profess
their love and that is by shooting them with his Pheromone Gun. With enough shots or a direct hit in
their weak spots, the girls experience euphoria and crumple to the floor in poses that ticks all the fan
service boxes. Dishing out euphoria also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Completing all the side quests, which involves finding lost items for various girls, will take a long
time and you can even analyze the bust size of every girl in the game if you are really a completionist.
The game also features a beginner and expert difficulty level, although even the latter feels a little too
easy compared to other on rail shooters. Overall, we had a lot of fun with the game although it is
obviously not for the easily offended. For a dose of ecchi, but always humorous, on rail shooting

Analysis Of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid
Have you ever read a book where you read all about a lousy teenagers problems? Maybe even his
whole life. His crazy embarrassing family, and his weirdo friends. Diary of a Wimpy Kid. A great
book written by the one and only Jeff Kinney. Greg Heffley, the main character, is a wimpy kid and
most likely will never change his ways. Someone tries to tell Gregs father, Frank. Frank tries to get his
son to man up a little bit and signs him up for sports and clubs. Which, obviously did not work. ... I
got down off the deck and started climbing up the tree... I couldn t believe my ears. I guess dad felt
like he owed me for saving him yesterday, and this was his way of paying me back (Kinney 109 and
113). The theme of the novel is to be strong because someone will do something about it. The passage
above connects to this theme because Greg had to man up to climb the tree to retrieve his baby
brothers blanket after he threw it into a tree off of the deck. Afterwards, his father did not want to take
a turn playing a game because he did not want to sit next to someone that he did not like. Therefore
Greg took his place and basically saved his life for the day. Although Greg s ways may never change
he definitely made some progress with manning up on that day. One setting from this novel that is
important to this book is the Heffley household. It is important to the book because if it weren t for the
Heffley house, many events would not have happened. Like Greg s dad finding out his

Ranger Battalion Is The United States Army
I was in 3rd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, U.S. Army Special Operations Command
(U.S.A.S.O.C.). Ranger Battalion is the United States Army s premier direct action raid force. Being
in Ranger Battalion is unlike anything I had ever previously known, this tight knit brotherhood of
modern day Spartan warriors has bonds that even death cannot break. I deployed in a classified
location in Afghanistan to capture or kill wanted terrorists of our nation. My platoon and I stepped off
the plane and immediately got slapped in the face by the smell of burning jet fuel mixed with human
waste. The weirdest part was looking around at what the terrain was like, it reminded me exactly of
Arizona. Everyone in my platoon grabbed all our equipment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The air crewmen got on the mini gun which shoots 6000 rounds per minute and started shooting
precisely into the village, where the gunfire came from to allow us the freedom to maneuver. The air
crewmen gave us the 30 seconds till landing command, and we touched down with ferocity. We
prepared ourselves. They lowered the ramp and we took off sprinting towards the objective like
Rangers always do. Making sure I stayed in the formation, adjacent to my squad leader. We sprinted to
the target compound at an ungodly pace. We ran into the wall, which allowed us to stop all our
forward momentum on a dime. While simultaneously stacking up on the outer wall. I ran up ahead of
the stack and placed the wall charge explosive that I had built. I backed away seven feet which was the
minimum safe distance for my charge, and boom! My explosive charge created a perfect door sized
entry hole in the wall. Then I took out my flash bang grenade, pulled the pin, and threw it through the
entry hole which temporarily stuns enemies with an extremely bright flash and loud noise. Since I was
the one closest to the entry I went in first. As I took one step into the breach, I had three other rifle
barrels over top of my shoulder, covering my every move as all four of us breached and cleared the
compound. I button hooked left and proceeded to clear my corner first, then turning up and scanning
the rest of the compound for enemy combatants. I found a large cache of

  • 2. The Four Seasons By Antonio Lucio Vivaldi Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, outstanding composer of The Four Seasons and more specifically Gloria in Excelsis Deo, was born March the 4th 1678 and died July 28th 1741. Vivaldi was born in Venice, Italy: a city in northeastern Italy sited on a group of one hundred seventeen small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. He died in Veinna, Austria, the capital and largest city of Austria, and one of the nine states of Austria, Vienna is also Austria s primary city. Antonio Vivaldi is a well known composer of the Baroque music style. Baroque music ranges from 1600 1750 where Vivaldi neatly falls into. Baroque music established opera, cantata, oratorio, concerto, and sonata as musical genres and the vocabulary used for the music is still common in our musical vocabulary today. Baroque music is a large piece of what we deem classical music . The music style is what enlarged our size, range and instrumental complexity of the music. Common composers of the Baroque style are Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Alessandro Scarlatti, Domenico Scarlatti, Antonio Vivaldi, Henry Purcell, Georg Philipp Telemann, Jean Baptiste Lully, Arcangelo Corelli, Tomaso Albinoni, François Couperin, Denis Gaultier, Claudio Monteverdi, Heinrich Schütz, Jean Philippe Rameau, Jan Dismas Zelenka, and Johann Pachelbel. Antonio Vivaldi composed aforementioned The Four Seasons a four part musical series from 1717 to 1721, as well as his two most well known operas Argippo and Bajazet. ... Political Racism And The Consequences Racism and the consequences The Republicans have used the voting rights laws to create gerrymandered bleached white districts that favor radical right wing conservative Republicans. While jamming minorities into a few districts primarily black that preclude whites from even running for office in those districts because minorities will not generally vote for white democrats if a black is running. Hence the complete control of both houses of the legislature by the radical Republicans. That is why you don t see many white Democrats in the legislature. In addition, in statewide elections the vote s falls about 50 50 between Democrats and Republicans and therefore you should have about the same ratio in both houses of the legislature. We don t ... • 4. The Legacy Of The Sierra Club Adams As Adams pursued his work in both art and conservation the various lines of his life were beginning to converge revealing both the unity and the disjunction of his ideas. 137 His impact was felt on both spheres of influence. Using modern techniques of mass communications, Adams brought a vision of idealized wilderness to a broad audience and linked the environmental movement with nationalism and a romantic view of nature. The sustained popularity of his photographs illuminates a continuing public fascination with the wilderness landscape as both a place of beauty and a symbol of national identity and ideals. • 6. Edward Gibbon s Declaration Of The Reign Edward Gibbon s declaration of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being the most happy and prosperous time in the history of the human race bases its claims on what could be viewed as superficial aspects of the empire. When studying the Roman Empire, it s difficult to not admire the stunning works, such as the House of Fawn in Herculaneum or Hadrian s Villa. The wealth needed to create such places indicates the prosperity within the empire during this time. Gibbons claimed understanding on happiness and prosperity seem to have less to do with the personal lives of the human race and more with what physically surrounded the human race during this period of reign. The claim by Gibbons seems to focus on the benevolent paternalism that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you were a prisoner of war coming to see the Forum in attempts to assimilate into this most happy and prosperous society, you were faced with images of your ancestors as captives. The forum catered to a specific class of Roman citizens and did not act as a place where the average Roman man or woman felt represented. In addition to the works of Trajan, Hadrian s Wall can also superficially symbolize the happiness and prosperity of the Roman Empire as asserted by Gibbons. The emperor Hadrian built Hadrian s Wall after returning from his visit to Britain. The construction of the wall was an attempt by Hadrian to set up permanent borders for the Roman Empire and show the strength that the Roman Empire had during the reign of Hadrian by doing so. The construction of the wall, while showing strength and wealth, also can symbolize the empires struggle with its borders, and even more so, citizenship. The wall itself symbolized the Roman Empire s tensions with the peoples surrounding the empire. The wall showed how the empire needed a structural device to maintain some level of peace within the empire. The idea of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being a time of prosperity can also be understood when looking at the changing roles of women within the empire. Women during this time period were treated differently than the woman before them. While it s difficult to assert definitively whether or not women were more respected during this ... In their article Callier, Huss and Juengst present this controversial case revolving around the problem of criminal records and hiring. I believe there two main interconnected problems: the issue of ethicality and legality. It is acceptable to collect genetic DNA samples. To put it bluntly, is it okay to do so? The answer is no. Here is the explanation why. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOP) insists that when it comes to issue of getting genetic information, aim to discriminate is insignificant and it does not matter whether or not one intended to discriminate. I agree that such practice is not right, especially from an ethical standpoint. But it seems wrong even from legal viewpoint. The commission argues An employer who asks for information and then acquires genetic information as a result of that request, runs in violation of GINA . Therefore, it is unlawful thing to do. This is legal issue. What about ethical side? Although I grant that there is no obligation that an employer receives an information to discriminate or there is no such a rule that the employer obtains information to have genetic information, I still maintain that this is not right thing to do, because it may entail amplification of discrimination. EEOP supports my disagreement: the fact that they re acquiring genetic information to begin with violates the rule itself . Again, it is confirmed that University s policy go against GINA and now ethical aspect is present. The problem here is that by collecting DNA samples, University of Akron creates basis for ... • 8. Marriage and Individuality God created marriage as a union between man and woman. A woman, while still having a mind of her own and control over her own life, is under the authority of her husband. This frightens some women, who fear oppression at the hands of their husbands. While it is true that some men abuse the system that God set up for man and woman, not all men act as such. The Bible states monogamy is what God laid down as a foundational law of marriage, [...the Creator made them male and female...] For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh ? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. (Mathew 19.5 6). Although many women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harriet finds Phoebe, an old friend from her years in college, interesting, because her marriage is like a dream. She has not changed a bit, and although she has children, she and her husband continue to go gallivanting about the world in search of adventure (Sayers, 14 15). Though Phoebe and her husband are not very successful parents, Phoebe s marriage is one of the success stories that begin to change Harriet s mindset about the concept of marriage from it being repulsive to it being something desirable. Marriage is works through compromise between the husband and wife; a woman who does not wish to be a housewife, but prefers to work can discuss her feelings with her husband in order to generate a resolution that leaves both the adults and the children happy with the result. Marriage is a union of two people, melding their old lives with their new one. Mark and Jane insist on maintaining entirely separate lives, which keeps their marriage from working (That Hideous Strength, 12). Lord and Lady Wimsey are able to live happily as a married couple because they communicate with one another (Talboys, 32). When a couple is united, they can combat any force that comes against them. In Talboys, Harriet s whole opinion on the institution of marriage has shifted. She and her husband, Lord Peter Wimsey, get along very well, and she is still able to write, and he, detect criminal proceedings with uncanny accuracy. She has come to the realization that she ... In the 1600s and 1700s, many astronomers and mechanics were focused on finding a way to find the longitude of a ship s position at sea. John Harrison, a self taught carpenter and clockmaker was able to create a solution, but no one with enough power to enforce his studies would listen to his ideas. Similar to this, when Nicolaus Copernicus discovered that the earth revolved around the sun, no one believed him because the belief at the time was that the earth was the center of the universe. • 10. Stylistic Devices In The Giant Wistaria Final Analysis Writers of works of literature have long employed various stylistic devices to execute their literary objectives. Some of these stylistic devices include but are not limited to the use of settings, theme, and characters. Furthermore, such works can be analyzed, understood and interpreted through the lens of theories such as Feminism, Post colonialism, and Existentialism. The use of various stylistic devices in service of the exploration of various literary theories serves to make literature vibrant, richer, and much more useful to the society in which the work is produced. Through the use of the mentioned stylistic devices, writers are able to demonstrate links that exist between their works of literature and theories such as Feminism, Post colonialism, and Existentialism. Analyzing The Giant Wistaria Using the Feminism Theory Feminism, as a movement, can be defined as the struggle that seeks to do away with institutionalized patriarchy. Additionally, it has the aim of championing for the social, political, economic, and cultural equality between the sexes. Slavery And The United States In modern society, people often try for minority groups to feel equal to majorities, however, when slavery existed, blacks were undermined and denied many freedoms entitled to them under the Constitution. There were many topics argued about, but slavery caused the most dispute within the country. In the 1850 s, the pro slavery South and the anti slavery North collided when the case of Dred Scott, a black slave who attempted to gain liberation, was brought to court. Because he had been held as a slave illegally, and ultimately denied the nullification of his status, he was therefore entitled to petition his liberation and gain freedom. Based on the slavery laws in Illinois where he resided, Dred Scott should have been liberated as he had legal standing to file a lawsuit against the government. His freedoms had been denied and when he was held illegally as a slave in the state of Illinois, these facts were not acknowledged when he proposed his freedoms, and therefore, had every right to petition his liberation. Debate of the constitutionality of The Missouri Compromise caused controversy within the Dred Scott case. The Missouri Compromise came about in 1818, when Missouri petitioned to become a slave state. At the time, there were 22 states, 11 slave and 11 non slave states; there was balance of representation in senate. The house of representatives, however, proposed an amendment that would ban the importation of slaves, and eventually all slavery. This bill was passed, and then moved on to senate where a modified version was passed that did not contain any restrictions on slavery. The house refused to accept the modifications made, and the bill was never passed. In 1819, Maine petitions for acceptance into the union but as a free state. • 12. The Importance Of Romantic Love Love is a tricky thing. I, as I m sure many of us, grew up with the notion that happiness was an outside job, that I was not actually in charge of my own happiness. For me, I learned, through some really terrible examples, that I needed to depend on others to feel happy, fulfilled, whole, and so romantic love became very sticky. It became a game of trying to figure out what I needed to say and do to try and get the other person to do what I thought I needed them to do in order for me to feel safe, to feel that my needs would be met, to feel happy. Just typing that last sentence feels complicated. And that s exactly what romantic love became.... a very complicated strategical endeavor. The only thing that this (very Ego) strategy ends up doing is creating resentment. I would resent my partners for not doing what I wanted them to do and they would resent me for requiring so much of them and putting unjust pressure on them. It was not a good plan at all! Eventually as I started down my path to self discovery I caught on to the whole make yourself happy thing. I got better and better at it with time and practice, but there was still a rub when it came to romantic love. I was still coming into romantic love full of need. Maybe it didn t start out that way but it always seemed to end up that way. And then the resentment would set in. For me it took a really significant life event to begin come out of the game . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this paper of his, Marx tackles many Enlightenment ideals but also challenges many with his analysis on class struggle (bourgeoisie vs. working class), capitalism, and the development of society as a result of these struggles. Marx s main proposal in The Communist Manifesto is that of historical materialism , which is basically self divided into two parts: historically and materialistic. Historically, Marx defines history as a change from the past to present in which the present relies on analysis of the past to ensure progress. Furthermore, Marx regards that relations in the past have continually been subject to historical change consequent upon the change in historical conditions .7 The analysis of the past is consequent with the present as it is dependent with progress. Without analyzing the past, Marx is stating that society in general will not learn from the class struggles that so aptly occupied society during that time. The materialistic aspect of this, is prominent through Marx s explanation that the economy of a society does not necessarily lead to distress and chaos in society, furthermore the economy of a society is not to blame. In many ways Marx says that following every historical period, the prevailing mode of economic production and exchange, and the social organization necessarily following from it, form the basis upon which it is built up [...] .8 ... Each of these men s ideas had a great impact on the economy of numerous countries and helped countries find economic success different times. Keynes and Hayek had opposite ideas on what created a working economy that would be successful and avoid economical depressions like that of the United States great depression and the European depressions that resulted from the two World Wars. Keynes believes that the best way to maintain a strong economy was to have government micromanage any and all aspects of the economy. He believes that in order to maintain full employment of citizens, countries must spend money to create jobs and to help struggling companies. Hayes believes that this was not the answer and would only result in more problems. Hayes felt that a market will be able to take care of its self and in order to ensure this government needed to avoid intervention to allow for a free economy to develop. During the time of war Keynes ideas were more successful because the government was able to make a large quantity of jobs for people through goods needed for the war. • 20. Analysis Of The Tuesday Wars By S. D. Hollings Some books are so different even though they are in the same time period. The authors of these book, S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders, and Gary D. Schmidt, The Wednesday Wars, did a great job at making these books. The main characters, Ponyboy and Holling, are well thought out. The Outsiders is a book about a boy who is a gang and have lost his parents. The gang is a part of the Greasers, the poor kids, who are always attacked by the Socs., the rich kids. One day Ponyboy and Johnny are attacked and Johnny kills one. They run away where they save kids from a burning church. They get burns and are rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile Ponyboy and Greasers are having a rumble with the Socs. After the rumble Johnny dies in the hospital and Dally is killed by police because he wanted to die. The Wednesday Wars is about a 7th grader who thinks his teacher hates him. He doesn t have parents who care about him and sister thinks he has no guts. He learns that Mrs. Baker is actually nice when she helps him practice for events such as the play and track meet. His dad however is only thinking about business and not about his kids. Holling eventually stands up to him. The characters have plenty of differences between them from their parents, to the personality, but they have the same kinds of friends. Ponyboy and Hollings parents are completely different. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy says to Randy that his parents were really nice but they died in a car accident. My parents are dead. I live here with just Darry and Soda, my brothers (Hinton, 140) He had good parents but they died and now he has Darry as a parent making sure he does well in school and about his health too. The first such example in the book where the narrator has a flashback is when he and Jim Burton run into each other on a train and the conversation that follows about a Bohemian girl they both knew. During that burning day when we were crossing Iowa, our talk kept returning to a central figure, a Bohemian girl whom we had both known long ago. More than any other person we remembered, this girl seemed to mean to us the country, the conditions, the whole adventure of our childhood (Cather, 1918, p. 2). Socrates believes that banning certain works of art from his ideal city is the best course of action for everyone. I will argue that Socrates is correct in his assessment that controlling the flow of art is for the betterment of society. By banning certain works of art, the souls of the young can be molded into an image that loves truth and honesty. Socrates says So our first task, it seems, is to supervise the storytellers: if they make up a good story, we must accept it; if not, we must reject it. (Republic II, 377B). The objection is that such policies suppress the individuals right to autonomy, and to decide for themselves what is virtuous and what is not. Nonetheless, Socrates believes that restricting art is the best course of action. The influence of the bad art and the good art will take effect in the mind of the individual throughout society. Such as the stories of the gods, Socrates believes that the gods must be represented in a good light. Then kids will emulate good hearted behavior. If their mothers read stories about the horrible crimes the gods committed, then the children might grow up to believe that such immorality is normal and acceptable. If those children grow up to become adults and leaders of society, then society would become callous and unjust. An unjust city is the antithesis of an ideal city, which is what Socrates ... Existentialism In Mrs. Dalloway s Waiting For Godot As a result of both World Wars, many who had been disillusioned by romanticized ideas of war were shocked by the abrupt pain and loss they experienced. Due to the excruciating catastrophe of War, people lost faith in religion and humanity and ultimately felt as though life lacked a meaningful purpose. This pessimistic view of life brought upon the emergence of existentialism as a prominent philosophical belief in society. Many Existentialists believed that our lives are ultimately meaningless and that our existence is comprised entirely of our actions; we must acknowledge that our lives occur while we are waiting for our inevitable deaths. Mrs. Dalloway and Waiting for Godot both exemplify through their characters that human life and experiences are comprised of the small moments in which we are collectively waiting for something. This idea of waiting for something is essential to the human experience because many existentialists of the eras, in which these stories were written, ultimately believe that a reality in which evils can occur, such as a World War, could not possibly have a caring God and that our existence must be made up solely of the actions that are performed in the time spent waiting, Becket would argue naively, for something to occur. Genesis s flood story can be thought of as written by other couple sources, authors J and P (Hays 90). Author J is the older manuscript and Author P is the redactor. Author J is identified because of the use of Yahweh. Author P is likely the priestly redactor that would not use the holy name of Yahweh. Priest would instead us the word Lord. Another way source division is identifiable is through doublets that seem to occur throughout the Genesis narrative. Some of the doublets contradict one another therefore leading one to believe there are more than one author. For example, Author J states that seven pairs of ritually clean and one pair of unclean animals were taken aboard the Ark then 40 days of rain ensued. The later redactor, Author P , seems to transpose a different (Babylonian) account of 2 pairs of animals and 150 days of rain (Hays 91) Best explanation is that P and J has been harmonized over time, both full stories, then redaction by a later ... Courts have explained that under the Copyright Act, the statutory damages serve as a punitive sanction of infringers, under Truth In Lending Act (TILA) statutory damages deter general illegalities which are only rarely uncovered and punished, and under the Electronics Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) statutory damages acts as punitive, as well as compensatory ... • 39. U.S Slavery History and North Korean Life Slavery was, and is, the mistreatment of people as property. Slavery in British colonies dates all the way back to 1619 when African Americans first arrived in Jamestown, Virginia. As soon as the African Americans arrived they were no longer considered to be human . Slaves were property; therefore they could be traded and sold. Slaves were cruelly whipped if they did something their master did not approve of. Some slave owners were so violent that they whipped their slaves until they bled and then they would rub salt into the wounds. Morosely, slaves were so horribly mistreated, some chose to take their own lives over continuing to be a slave. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery once and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This network of helping hands aided in hundreds of slaves escaping to freedom each year. Escaping to The North was extremely hard. Many houses were 10 to 20 miles apart, which meant slaves had to move fast! Harriet Tubman helped 300 slaves achieve freedom within 19 trips. North Korea also has a very helpful underground railroad. The North Korean Underground Railroad is a horrendous path across China that leads to South Korea. It is a treacherous path because China sends about 200 North Korean refugees back to North Korea each day. As soon as North Koreans are sent back, they either end up in jail, in a prison camp or are killed. Similar to white people helping African American slaves escape to freedom, many Chinese and South Korean people try and help North Koreans escape as well. China does not want refugees to live in their country. Surprisingly, 300 thousand North Korean refugees live in China because they managed to escape. Along the dangerous journey through China, there are houses and helpers for those escaping North Korea. It is a shame that some people and countries are afraid to help North Koreans because of all the powerful weapons that North Korea has acquired. In conclusion, underground railroads have helped, and still are, helping many individuals and families have a better life. Thankfully, as soon as slaves reached Canada, or any free Northern U.S state, they were completely free. A few slaves feared that their owner was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. A Brief Note On The National Fire Protection Association In 1970 s a person home will be engulfed in flames in 17 minutes, today, three minutes, what changed? In the 1970 s homes were almost made to prevent the spread of fire. The National Fire Protection Association or NFPA were making stronger codes and stricter standers for homes. Today they are still in effect, but a fire in today s home can spread five times quicker. The reason why today s home catches on fire quicker is how the house is made of, the house layout, the furniture in the home, and how to prevent such a fire. In 1970 s homes were not made with engineered lumber. Engineered lumber is made from wood, chips, sawdust and glue. The lumber is used in 65% of construction. Plywood is the biggest couplet for engineered lumber. The European Science and Research Institute did a test to see what plywood burns faster. They tested many different types of wood that was plywood; however what burned the most was the modified plywood. Even the pine plywood that was runner up was not even close to how fast the modified plywood was burning. During the 70s the plywood people used was the local wood around them. For example cypress plywood is used mainly in Florida and Hemlock was mainly used in and around Tennessee. While today most homes are made of this designed wood that can burn faster. What s even a bigger problem is that firefighters don t want to go into a modern home because of wooden I beam joints. I beam joints hold the floor together and if it fails the floor collapses. ... The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. The motel sued United states because they thought the prohibition of racial discrimination contained in Title II of the Civil Rights Act represented an invalid exercise of Congress s constitutional power to regulate interstate commerce. Since the motel was a private business they believed that congress had no right to make them choose their customers. The question that was answered in this case was did Congress, in passing Title II of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, exceed its Commerce Clause powers by depriving motels, such as the Heart of Atlanta, of the right to choose their own ... • 43. The Effects Of Slavery On American South And Its Entire... Between 1800 and 1865, slaves lived in the Southern States and worked in the tobacco, wheat, rice, corn and cotton plantations. Essentially, slavery was an economic institution with far reaching benefits to slaveholders, since the value of slave labor was considerably more than the cost of their maintenance. Demands for democratization, respect for human dignity and American Civil War presented a major turning point in the institution of slavery as farmers turned to lesser labor intensive production methods such as the use of Eli Whitney s Cotton Gin. This paper analyzes different ways in which institution of Slavery affected the development of American South between 1800 1865, and the lives of people living in the region. In doing so the paper considers economic, political, social and cultural implications of the institution. Although slaves and slaveholders were significantly different, the Institution of Slavery negatively impacted the American South and its entire population. Economic Effects Prevalence of a less diversified southern economic approach was a condition that negatively impacted the economic progress. With cheap labor from slaves, the South prevalently practiced agriculture at the expense of market economies. While significant in farming, slave labor made farmers more complacent in agricultural production. The situation inevitably led to reluctance in establishing sustainable trade networks with other States in the North. As Wright (2006) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Analysis Of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Have you ever read a book where you read all about a lousy teenagers problems? Maybe even his whole life. His crazy embarrassing family, and his weirdo friends. Diary of a Wimpy Kid. A great book written by the one and only Jeff Kinney. Greg Heffley, the main character, is a wimpy kid and most likely will never change his ways. Someone tries to tell Gregs father, Frank. Frank tries to get his son to man up a little bit and signs him up for sports and clubs. Which, obviously did not work. ... I got down off the deck and started climbing up the tree... I couldn t believe my ears. I guess dad felt like he owed me for saving him yesterday, and this was his way of paying me back (Kinney 109 and 113). The theme of the novel is to be strong because someone will do something about it. The passage above connects to this theme because Greg had to man up to climb the tree to retrieve his baby brothers blanket after he threw it into a tree off of the deck. Afterwards, his father did not want to take a turn playing a game because he did not want to sit next to someone that he did not like. Therefore Greg took his place and basically saved his life for the day. Although Greg s ways may never change he definitely made some progress with manning up on that day. One setting from this novel that is important to this book is the Heffley household. It is important to the book because if it weren t for the Heffley house, many events would not have happened. Ranger Battalion is the United States Army s premier direct action raid force. Being in Ranger Battalion is unlike anything I had ever previously known, this tight knit brotherhood of modern day Spartan warriors has bonds that even death cannot break. I deployed in a classified location in Afghanistan to capture or kill wanted terrorists of our nation. My platoon and I stepped off the plane and immediately got slapped in the face by the smell of burning jet fuel mixed with human waste. The weirdest part was looking around at what the terrain was like, it reminded me exactly of Arizona. Everyone in my platoon grabbed all our equipment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The air crewmen gave us the 30 seconds till landing command, and we touched down with ferocity. We prepared ourselves. They lowered the ramp and we took off sprinting towards the objective like Rangers always do. Making sure I stayed in the formation, adjacent to my squad leader. We sprinted to the target compound at an ungodly pace. We ran into the wall, which allowed us to stop all our forward momentum on a dime. While simultaneously stacking up on the outer wall. I ran up ahead of the stack and placed the wall charge explosive that I had built. I backed away seven feet which was the minimum safe distance for my charge, and boom! My explosive charge created a perfect door sized entry hole in the wall. Then I took out my flash bang grenade, pulled the pin, and threw it through the entry hole which temporarily stuns enemies with an extremely bright flash and loud noise. Since I was the one closest to the entry I went in first. As I took one step into the breach, I had three other rifle barrels over top of my shoulder, covering my every move as all four of us breached and cleared the compound. I button hooked left and proceeded to clear my corner first, then turning up and scanning the rest of the compound for enemy combatants. I found a large cache of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
