Detecting And Protecting Against Inside Threats
Felipe Affonso Kaustubh M. Phaltankar April 18, 2016 Detecting and protecting against inside threats
Introduction Each day our world and our lives depend more on information systems, systems that can
guarantee that our informations are secure and available just for our own purpose. Lots of companies
work just if critical information which is stored on their databases. It is the responsibility of these
companies to guarantee with their costumers that this data is secure. Lots of those companies are
concerned about their databases and try to improve their security however. According to last year s
Internet Security Report from Symantec, almost no company, whether large or small, is immune to
cyber attacks. Five of every six large companies (2500+ employees) were targeted with spear phishing
attacks in 2014, a 40 percent increase over the previous year[1]. Normally, companies are aware of
theses attacks and are trying to invest more and more in security. It s important to point out that
attacks are not just from the outside; breaches and even data leakage can be accomplished by inside
employees. So, it s really important to protect against inside and outside attacks. High tech businesses
rely primarily on two opposing information values: the dissemination of information for innovation
success and the protection of information to retain competitive advantage[2]. These companies know
that just physical security isn t enough anymore, it s necessary to implement different

Mercy Is A Residential Treatment Facility Essay
To start off this journey, you need a little background. Life didn t make much sense when I was a kid.
There was lots of abuse and not so much fun. This all led to a place called Mercy Ministries and that is
where this journey begins. Mercy is a residential treatment facility. I was introduced to the idea of
Mercy in December of 2012, and I was accepted into the program in May of 2013. My entrance date
was June 3, 2013. The first thought I had was when am I going to leave this hellish place. Six months
had past and I received the month of which was going to be my graduation. I could taste the finish
line, I had three months left, I was going to graduate in March. I had no idea what day it was going to
be but I knew that I was going to leave with the victory that God had given me. The next 3 months
would be spent looking for a place of residence I could call home. So I called my best friend. So when
I get out of this place, can I stay with you? Sure, how long do you think you will stay? I will be home
for good, so how long do you want me for? If forever works for you, I would be totally fine having
you for that long. As I hung up the phone with my best friend, I knew everything would be okay. Life
was going to work itself out and I was going to be safe when I went home. The time went on and
March got closer, my time had finally come, A DATE!! March 24, 2014, that is the day I would
graduate. More phone calls with my best friend ensured me that I

Family Guy Character Analysis
Family Guy, an Analytical Review by Caleb Packard
I am not allowed to watch much TV. Therefore, I must be super selective about what I watch. While I
could waste a lot of time watching Duck Dynasty, when it comes to choosing a show, Family Guy is
my top selection. I think the popular cartoon comedy Family Guy, written by Seth MacFarlane, is one
of the best shows still running today.
Among currently running animated sitcoms, there are a few that have current connections to people
and events. Most famous of this genre of shows are South Park and Family Guy. Unlike South Park,
which follows a group of friends at school, Family Guy is about a family. The Griffin family consists
of parents Peter and Lois, their children Chris, Meg, Stewie, and the family dog, Brian. Instead of
showcasing the adventures of an individual struggling to balance impulses and responsibilities, Family
Guy focuses on the dynamics created by family members who are extreme in their personality traits
and very different from each other. Peter, the father, is impulsive, incompetent, and easily excitable.
Lois is the stereotypical responsible mother and wife. Meg is a classic case of a teenage girl struggling
to fit in at high school. Chris is your average awkward and immature teenage boy. Stewie, the
precocious baby, is by far the smartest and most cunning of the cast. Interestingly, the screenwriters
often drop hints that he is gay. He is eager to assume adult responsibilities and motivated to have

Subject heading:gravitation gravitational lensing
1.INTRODUCTION
According to the Einstein s general relativity, lights will bend in the gravity theory. So the light from
background objects such as stars and galaxies will focus because of the action from the foreground
objects, which seems like lens imaging and this kind of astronomical phenomena is known as
gravitational lens. Since the gravity field of foreground objects has nothing to do with the matter s
state and property, we could make use of the gravitational lens to study the matter s distribution of the
foreground objects. The gravitational lens is usually used to observe the small angle deflection of light
in weak gravity field. So far this phenomena has been verified from star to galaxy and from cluster of
galaxies to large scale universe and so many different scales. The gravitational lens seems to be a
camera and astronomers deduce the structure of camera from the properties of the image.Simple
application of the gravitational lens could be concluded to the following three points.
(1)As a cosmic telescope, the gravitational lens makes the remote or dim objects brighter. (2) Because

Changes Continuities of Silk Road Essay
The Silk Road which started in 200 BCE and ended it in 1450 CE has its own changes and
continuities. Trade flourished between the Asian and Europe at the time and as time went on its sole
purpose of trading expanded to many other purposes and affect not only the area it contacted.
Although there were many continuities during the time but it has more significant changes that
occurred and also impact the world. One significant changes of the Silk Road is when it was first
started it mainly started as a way for trade to flourish between Europe and Asia. But the purpose of
this Silk Road has also expanded to transcend different culture and technologies from different places
and caused cultural diffusion along the Silk Road. This happened ... Show more content on

The reason the Chinese won t let the outsiders know how to make these silk is because the process of
it is hard and they depends mostly on trading these silk for the stuff they needed. Another continuities
is the geography of the silk road. The silk road is consist of many route, some is shorter but dangerous
while other is longer but safer. Even though some of the routes have changed and there is more variety
of stuff that s being traded than when it was started (e.g. Gunpowder) and the purpose of the road also
expanded like people use it to spread religion and unfortunately is also been a route where disease
easily spread (e.g. Black plagues) The continuity is the geography of the silk road never changed
because both the European and Asia gained much profit from it that it doesn t need to be change and
the Silk Road remained the major trade route between Far Eastern Chinese and European cultures and
sparked numerous conflicts in its existence.
The Silk Road which have been known as a major trade route in the old world and sparked numerous
conflicts in its existence. It brought the goods and the bads like the plagues, cultural diffusion,
introduction of new technologies and brought new religions to different part of that world. The Silk

Interpretations: Communication: Jace shows that he is below average in communication. The first
piece of evidence for this are his test scores. Jace was given the Vineland II test. On the
communication section of the Vineland Jace received a standard score of 60. In terms of percentile
Jace scored in less than the first percentile. This means that Jace did as well as or better than 1 percent
of the other individuals who took this test. In the Vineland communication is split into different
sections which are written, receptive, and expressive. For receptive and expressive Jace scored below
average. Jace does not have a written score. On the PLS 4 (Preschool Language Test) test0 Jace scored

simple commands by the age of 1. Another milestone for language is to point to something the child
wants. Jace does not point at the object he wants. When he wants something he will pull his mother
into the room. Once his mother is in the room he does not point to the object. Another Milestone is
being able to say several single words. Jace occasionally said mom . He also attempted to say bubbles,
but other than that he said no other words. For milestones of younger kid s children at the age of one

milestones for a one year child is to try to say the words adults around him say. Jace does not mimic
what others are saying. He gives little recognition when others are

Joshua By Ellen G. White Analysis
Moses was dead. The Israelites had no leader and they began to wonder what was going to happen to
them. They shouldn t have been fearful; God was taking care of them. Joshua, who had been the prime
minister fro Moses, had been handpicked by God to fulfill the leadership position. As the story says,
Joshua had been chosen by God to lead the Israelites. He had shown wisdom and discernment in many
situations and he understood the responsibility for leading the people. He was well qualified for the
position! Joshua was well qualified for this position, because he had been faithful before in small
menial tasks that had been given to him. He had been faithful to God in the little things and now
because of the faithfulness God was giving to him this huge responsibility. Reading this made me
think about my own life. Would I be found faithful before God in the little things in life? And would I
be able to take on bigger responsibilities? Ellen G. White says this, Only ... Show more content on

I wonder what he was feeling as he marched back into the land, which he had before. Was he excited
to be back? Was he fearful of what might happen? Or was he completely trusting in God to take care
of him and the Israelites? On of the first battles they fought was the Battle of Jericho and Joshua had
to pray fervently for God to help him and the people with it. God heard and answered their prayer and
delivered the people of Jericho into their hands. After this, Joshua had the people take a stand. Would
they serve God or Baal? Who was going to be their God and who was going to have their heart s
affections? This call is still resounding down through the ages to now. What side are you going to
choose? Are you going to serve God or make your own god? The choice is yours to decide. The choice
is mine. I pray that the answer will come back with a resounding sound saying, The Lord our God will

Regency Gentlemen Amusements Essay
Regency Gentlemen Amusements
The Regency Era, generally referring to the time period of 1800 1820, was undeniably a time of
pleasure seeking and over indulgence. The Regency era represented a time when the current ruler, mad
King George III, was incapable of performing his royal duties. Due to his madness, the King s son the
Prince of Wales, a Regent and heir to the throne, was appointed to govern. The Prince of Wales was
designated Regent in 1811 (Channel4). During this era people of the upper class had a great deal of
leisure time, and their major task seemed to be to entertain themselves. Some of the more popular
amusements of rich and fashionable Regency gentlemen were boxing, cockfighting, and ... Show more

The competition was not finished until one man lay unconscious, and this often took hours (channel
4). Despite the popularity of boxing, cockfighting was still considered to be the period s most
widespread sport.
Cockfighting ranged across all social classes. Tournaments were held between gentlemen, often
geographically based with one area playing another. The cockpits were a common place where all
social classes gathered to place bets and watch the match. Although even the smallest town had a
cockpit, Regency gentlemen were known to hold contests at their own estate. This pastime was a
common practice and even influenced furniture makers to offer cockfighting chairs (GI).
Unlike bare knuckle bouts between people, cocks were precisely paired by weight in all the more
heavily staked cockfights. Human training was elementary when compared to the training of
gamecock. The cocks often had bone or metal spurs strapped over the birds beak to insure a fight to
the death. Cockfighting began to diminish in England only after The Royal Society for Cruelty to
Animals began to bring actions in the late 1830s, based on an 1835 Act against animal cruelty (GI).
With boxing and cockfighting s growing interest, both created an obsession with gambling.

Theme Of Servant Leadership
A trust and servant leader fundamental bases are about being a mentor. As stated below, Research also
indicates that the common theme of the servant leader revolves more around the well being of others
(Savage Austin Honeycutt, 2011, p. 50). This example of a leader is literally being a servant fist and
putting all interest of the employee before you self. Servant leader have certain assets on which to
become servant leaders. As follows, These assets are built upon ten characteristics; Building
community, listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight,
stewardship and commitment (prezi.com, 2018).

Galoob Case Study
Discussion on court rulings: Fair use perspective The district court concluded that Galoob is not liable
for copyright infringement under U.S. Code § 107, a fair use defense against direct infringement claim
of Nintendo s copyrighted works. In determining fair use factors, the court has greatly relied on the
supreme court ruling in the court case Sony v. Universal City Studios. (1984) in the context of
contributory infringement. The doctrine of fair use states that any individual may reproduce a
copyrighted work for a fair use and that the copyright owner does not possess the exclusive right to
such a use. Thus, permitting the holder of the copyrighted material to use it in a reasonable manner
without the consent of the copyright owner. In determining Galoob s fair use of Nintendo s
copyrighted video games, the courts considered the following four fair use factors.

Isolation In Catcher In The Rye
Salinger explores the theme of isolation in Catcher in the Rye. First, on pg 2 Salinger narrates
Anyway, it was the Saturday of the football game. I remember around three o clock that afternoon I
was standing way the hell up on top of Thomsen Hill. You could see the whole field from there, and
you could see the two teams bashing each other all over the place. You could hear them all yelling.
Holden is isolated, aloof, and watching people instead of connecting with them. Next, on pg 153
Holden claims When I finally got down off the radiator and went out to the hat check room, I was

First, I think the Rye Field is a major symbol in this novel because pg 173, Holden told Phoebe about
what he is picturing and Holden said I m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I
have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff I mean if they re running and they don t look
where they re going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That s all I d do all day. I d
just be the catcher in the rye and all. The quote is saying that Holden doesn t want himself and
everyone who entered the adulthood so he is catching everyone who wants to act like an adult but
Holden won t let them act like an adults. I think that Holden is a little brat. He wants to act like he is a
little kid and doesn t want to grow up as an adult. He thinks that he isn t responsible enough to be
treated as an adult because Holden deals with alcohol, sex, and violence. I think maybe that s the
reason he isn t responsible enough to take care of himself. Even though he is a kid, he thinks that he

Corruption Of Inequity And The Injustice In The World Today
Jaylen Lewis

Poem #1
When talking about the inequity and the injustice in the world today; it is important that many have
topics such as police brutality, injustice, and racism are bought up throughout the discussion. Over the
years African Americans have been victims of discrimination, Jim Crow, segregation, and many more
unconstitutional acts of racism and still have overcame it all. Also, there are still crooked people in the
criminal justice system such as police officers, judges, jurors, and many others; understanding that
being African American has a rough price to pay in the United States of America without the
corruption of the criminal justice system and African Americans as a whole need to realize. Lauryn
Hill states you can t handle the truth in a courtroom of lies. Also, In the poem Mystery of Inequity by
Lauryn Hill she examines corruption to talk about crooked lawyers, false indictments, and slavery. In
the poem Mystery of Inequity Lauryn Hill explores corruption to talk about crooked lawyers. Public
defenders are prime examples of crooked lawyers because they are appointed by the judge to represent
alleged offenders if they cannot afford a real attorney. Most of the time if an alleged criminal is
represented by a public defender nine times out of ten he or she is going to be found guilty according
to either the jury or the judge. They are hired by the government but are supposed to work for the
people; which in many cases does not work in the defendant s favor and causes the person to serve
prison time for the crime they did or did not commit at that time. Also, public defenders work with the
prosecutors more than they work with the alleged criminal themselves. This is why public are known
as crooked lawyers and are not supposed to be in used while an alleged criminal is preparing or on
trial because they will most likely ask that person if they want to take a plea deal or also known as a
plea bargain; which is the agreement in any criminal case between the prosecutor and defendant
whereby the defendant agrees to plead guilty to a particular charge in return for some concession from
the prosecutor. This

Internet Safety And The Internet
Internet safety has been an extensive issue for children and adolescents since accuse to the Internet has
become readily available in homes. With Internet use increasing at such rapid rates and a large
proportion of adolescents using the Internet daily, the awareness of Internet safety should be
addressed. The term Internet safety can be defined as the knowledge of maximizing an individuals
safety to private information, and self protection from using the Internet . The impact and influence
that the Internet has on adolescent life is far reaching and research findings by Norris (2007) indicate
that one quarter of the American youth that go online at home, do so in the privacy of their rooms.
Additionally, with the recent trend of wireless connections there has been a profound expansion in
private Internet usage. The diverse means by which adolescents are using the Internet has become
coupled with inherent risks of unsupervised and uneducated use.
The Internet plays a key role in the development of education. According to past research findings,

Communication In The Movie Arrival
What would happen if alien life forms landed on earth? How would we communicate and cooperate
with them? If there was a conflict, how would we fix it? The movie Arrival, directed by Denis
Villeneuve attempts to answer these questions.
The movie begins with an expert linguist Louise Banks, (Amy Adams) losing her only daughter to
cancer at a young age. This is an important key to the storyline, but it gets set aside as soon as twelve
gigantic unidentified space craft appear in different places around the world. Within a day Louise is
summoned by the United States Military to decipher the language of the aliens. Shortly after arriving
at the base, Louise is sent into the large black shell along with a team of men and physics specialist
Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner). The door to the shell only opened every eighteen hours. Once inside,
the pod leads to a luminous chamber with a large glass screen like a movie theater. On the other side
of the glass emerged from the fog; two squid like creatures that were later named Heptapods. Because
the military did not know the language of the aliens, they needed Louise to determine a way to
communicate with these creatures and figure out why they were here. Throughout the movie, Louise
would have memories of the child that died at the beginning of the movie, however, she seemed to be
confused immediately after the flashback.
Although the Heptapods were not showing any signs of aggression, other countries were beginning to

Children With ADHD Research
Children with attention deficit/hyperactivity (ADHD) disorder are normally at risk for other disorders
such as conduct problems. In fact, ADHD is one of the most robust early predictors of conduct
problems. (Lahey, McBurnett, et al., 2000). These conduct problems can turn into adverse outcomes
such as criminality and substance abuse among others. ADHD is defined by the Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM V; American Psychiatric Association, 2013) as
developmentally impulsive behaviors, inappropriate inattention, and motor activity that cause
impairment in social and academic functioning. While little is known about early predictors of the

Interpersonal Conflict Paper
1) Interpersonal conflict can be defined as the interaction of interdependent people who perceive
incompatible goals and interference from each other in achieving those goals . Reese and her mother
have an interdependent relationship, meaning that the people involved in conflict rely on or need each
other in some way and have an actual relationship with each other. They are also interacting, which
means that conflicts are created and sustained through verbal and nonverbal communication. Even
though Reese and her mother are not as close as other members of the family, they still would have to
communicate in some way to realize that Reese s goal to travel over two hours away for college is
farther than her mother is comfortable with. These incompatible goals of distance become the root
cause of their interpersonal conflict.
2) This scenario between Reese and her mother would be considered content conflict within
interpersonal conflict. Content conflict is also considered substantive conflict and is defined as a
conflict that revolves around a specific issue. This disagreement falls within the scope of content
conflict as the two are arguing about the specific issue of exactly how far away Reese should be
allowed to travel for school.
3) Power, or the ability to control the behavior of another, plays a large role in this situation as Reese s
mother probably is feeling some sort of entitlement to make this decision for her daughter. At this

Justice, The Necession Of Justice In Ovid s Metamorphosis
Justice, what is justice? Is justice the administration of law, a way to punish the wrong, create an
example for the spectators? Yes, Indeed, by definition justice is the administration of law, it is to push
the wrongdoers according to laws. However, in Ovid s Metamorphosis, justice is not just at all.
Females are given a harsher punishment than males. Demigods are punished while other gods are not.
In Metamorphosis justice is controlled by the superior (the gods), while the inferior (mortals) are
always punished whether they committed a crime or not. For example, the story of Io, she was a fair
nymph who caught the eye of Jupiter (Zeus), and was punished for many days. This story is one of the
many that Ovid writes about in Metamorphosis, where a human or female was punished without fault.
When people think of justice, they think of an image of scale carried by a blind women, believing
justice to be blind. However in Ovid s Metamorphosis, justice is not blind. As I stated earlier, the story
of Io, a fair nymph who caught the eye of Jupiter, was raped by Jupiter and then turned into a cow
because Jupiter had taken an interest in her. When Ovid writes, Juno... blazing with anger... she wasted
no time in venting her fury by sending a horrible demon to frighten the eyes of Io... a goading terror
was planted deep in her heart, which hounded her over the world in flight... the groans that she uttered,
the tears that she shed... pleading... to grant her the end to her suffering... he is describing the pain of
Io, but she was at no fault. Jupiter should have been punished for not being loyal to juno, but he was
not punished, a human, a female that had no fault was.
Another story that Ovid mentions in Metamorphosis is the story of Myrrha, another female punished
severely for breaking the laws of society. Myrrha was the daughter of Cinyras, a king. Hundreds of
suitors came to fight for her hand, but she was in love with her own father. The fathered welcomed his
flesh and blood to the bed of uncleanness... filled with her father s unhallowed seed... bearing the fruit
of her monstrous crime in her impious womb.., describes the crime Myrrah commits. She was

A Project On Replacing Planning Commission
A Project on
NITI AAYOG REPLACING PLANNING COMMISSION
Sociology II
Winter Semester 2014 15

___________________________________________________________________________
Introduction:
Planning Commission is a very old system and it will have to be rejuvenated, it will have to be
changed a lot. Sometimes it costs more to repair the old house, but, it gives us no satisfaction.
Thereafter, we have a feeling that it would be better to construct a new house altogether and therefore
within a short period, we will replace the planning commission with a new institution having a new
design and structure, a new body, a new soul, a new thinking, a new direction, a new faith towards
forging a new direction to lead the country based on creative thinking, public private partnership,
optimum utilization of resources, utilization of youth power of the nation, to promote the aspirations
of state governments seeking development, to empower the state governments and to empower the
federal structure.
The above quote was said by PM Modi in his speech at Red Fort on 68th Independence Day. He
announced the formation of a new institution to replace 65 years old planning commission on that day.

The Value Of Slave Life
Money from jobs, stocks, and major companies are the bare bones of our economy. People are born,
go to school, go to college, then find a job that can pay enough for comfortable living. On the other
side of the equation, people are born, go to school, then either find a job or live unemployed. It is
known that people will try to put together get rich quick schemes which often led to federal crime.
This intrinsic thirst for money has shown itself once before and has led to violent punishment and
unjustifiable murder. Enslaved people are born to work, making the enslaved people the bare bones of
the colonial south. But the worsening of conditions experienced by slaves was worsened by a single
creation. Around 1792, Eli Whitney applied for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cotton gin created many ripples in the lives of slaves and caused many slaves to believe they were
nothing but animals. They were fed, worked hard, and bred like dogs. If a dog were to disobey his

rewarded if they perform their tricks correctly, but dogs who fall victim to [malnourishment] by
insufficient food and intense labor (Baptist pg. 122) will be beaten or put down . Maybe the point is

A fifty two year old white male visited his physician because he started experiencing shortness of
breath on walking short distances at ground level. He had smoked half a packet of cigarettes daily for
40 years. Physical examination revealed a loud fourth heart sound and a blood pressure of 147/95
mmHg. Chest examination and chest X ray were unremarkable, and ECG showed left atrial
abnormality. The patient had normal serum electrolytes, blood sugar, and kidney function tests. A
stress echocardiogram was ordered to exclude potential coronary artery disease (CAD). His resting
echocardiography showed an ejection fraction (EF) of 60%, normal septal and posterior wall
thickness, and mild diastolic dysfunction [septal early diastolic mitral annular velocity (e ) of 7 cm/s,
early diastolic (E wave) to late diastolic (A wave) transmitral Doppler flow velocity ratio (E/A) of 1.4,
E wave deceleration time of 210 milliseconds, and E/e ratio of 9]. There were no resting segmental
wall motion abnormalities suggestive of ischemia. The patient exercised on a treadmill using Bruce
protocol for 4 minutes and 43 seconds, and achieved 6.6 metabolic equivalent of task (MET) and
maximum heart rate of 148 beats/minute (88% of his maximum age predicted heart rate). At peak

Chemical Weathering Lab Report

Chemical Weathering
Background Information
Chemical weathering occurs when the erosion of rocks and the disintegration of rocks are caused by
chemical reactions with water and substances dissolved in it. This can occur in places where rainfall is
common, it occurs more rapidly at higher temperatures. Since high temperatures and damp areas cause
the chemical weathering process to increase, you can infer that chemical weathering occurs more
frequently in the spring.
There are different types of chemical weathering, the three big ones being solution, hydrolysis, and
oxidation. Solution weathering occurs when sulphuric acid in the air mixes with rainwater turning it
into acid rain. This is most common in highly polluted areas such as China which is a very big country
with a lot of cities and rural manufacturing plants. Acidic rain can remove/damage rocks, limestone is
especially vulnerable to weathering by rain water containing CO2. The next type, hydrolysis
weathering, breaks down rocks by acidic water to produce clay and a soluble salt. The only rock not
affected by hydrolysis is quartz. Finally the last type of weathering is the breakdown of rocks by
oxygen and water called oxidation, which makes rocks less resistant ... Show more content on

Benefits Of Spinach Cells
The goal of this project to use detergents and surfactants to decellularize spinach leaves, leaving just
the extracellular matrix. In addition, the secondary goal is to culture rat cardiac cells and use the
extracellular matrix as a three dimensional scaffolds for tissue growth. Tissue Engineering As stated
by Castells Sala et al. (2013) tissue Engineering is a [developing] scientific field focused on the
development substitutes for tissues by controlling biological, biophysical and/or biomechanical
parameters in the laboratory. The general principles of tissue engineering involve combining living
cells with a natural/ synthetic support or scaffold to build a three dimensional living construct.

(Chan Leong, 2008). Biocompatibility is also an important factor. The material should be biologically
compatible with the host tissue so it does not cause an immune or inflammatory response. (Pluta,
Malina, Sobczak Kupiec, 2012). While the cells grow on the scaffold they generate a matrix around
themselves, the scaffold provides structure and is eventually absorbed by the body; leaving the newly
formed tissue to manage mechanical support. (Pluta, Malina, Sobczak Kupiec, 2012). The scaffold
needs to be absorbed by the surrounding tissue at a rate compatible with the rate of tissue growth, so
the new tissue can function independently and avoid the need for surgical removal. Lastly, to ensure
functionality, the mechanical properties of the Scaffold should compatible with the tissue type. (Pluta,
Malina, Sobczak Kupiec, 2012; Chan Leong, 2008). Designing scaffolds with the mechanical and
physical properties appropriate for the tissue type, specifically for the vascular system, is the most
challenging part of tissue engineering. (Pluta, Malina, Sobczak Kupiec, 2012). No tissue can survive
without being able to move and diffuse nutrients, oxygen, and waste product...So vasculturation, the
process of making something vascular, is key to ensuring the long term survival and function of

Outline The Doctrine Of R2P
OUTLINE THE DOCTRINE OF R2P
Over centuries the international community has witnessed the deadly harm of sovereign states that
have demonstrated acts of colossal inhumanity, such as the atrocities of the Holocaust, Khmer Rouge
and Rwanda. All these episodes have contributed of an introduction to a new paradigm of international
of law, The Responsibly to Protect (R2P). This was adopted unanimously in 2005 by United Nations
General assembly World Summit. The R2P doctrine is based on 3 pillars of responsibility: 1. Each
nation state is obligated to protect its populace from crimes such as genocide, war crimes, ethnic
cleansing and crimes against humanity . 2.The international community has to encourage states to
uphold their role in ensuring R2P is adequately met. 3. If the nation state fails to protect its populace
from these crimes, it therefore it becomes an implication for the international community to
collectively take action. Notably this must be in accordance to article 39 of the United Nations
Charter. Hence, academic scholar Bellamy reinforces this; R2P offers the best change in our own time
to build an international community that is less tolerant of mass atrocities and more predisposed to
preventing them . However it must be noted that the doctrine of R2P is not legally binding.

Europe is nothing without Africa not the other way around. By the early twentieth century most of
Africa, excluding Ethiopia and Liberia had been colonized by European powers. Earlier between the
1870s and 1900 Africa faced many hardships from the Europeans such as imperialist aggression,
conciliatory pressure, invasions from the military, prospective journeys and colonization. Although
African societies put up resistance the scramble for African soil was taken by the Europeans. W.E.B

France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden
Norway (unified from 1814 1905), Turkey, and the United States of America. During the time of the
conference Africa had no only returned to being a local controlled country but an independent country

to be rules established for the involved countries dealing with each other. Therefore the Berlin

Everything roots from the family unit and this can t be ignored. Yoruba families are, like most african
families, dominated by the father. Where the difference lies is the children have a relationship with
their father that emphasis love. The dynamic between love and respect are the differences between the
two groups. Children call their father by gentle names and there s a rigorous amount of cultural
niceties and traditions that children are to learn when interacting with adults. Igbo: Family life is also
the foundation of Igbo culture. More so than Yoruba culture is the power the father has over the
family. Igbo fathers emphasis respect more than love though I wouldn t say the love is more or less in
the cultures. It s more common for igbo children to call their father s more authoritative names like sir,

fathers are served separate from children, and as children become youths they chose to eat separately

Diversity In American Language
America is well known as the land of opportunity, an advocate for multiculturalism, a salad bowl.
People from hundreds of different origins reside in the United States, practicing diverse religions,
sharing culinary traditions, and most importantly, speaking a myriad of languages. On the surface,
America s cultural integration is a model framework; plenty of the country s inhabitants happily
accept its diversity, especially when compared to other regions around the world. However,
historically, such diversity has also been met with resistance, particularly regarding language. The
concept of English purification first appeared in the language s Early Modern period, long before
America even established itself as an independent nation. The effort ... Show more content on

Namely, the internet provides millions of people access to nearly every inch of the world, thus
exposing gamers, bloggers, and mere web browers to foreign sources. As a result, English, whether
intentionally or not, borrows words from these sources to the point that dictionaries struggle to keep
up. For example, an American online poker player explained how his opponent, a Romanian, used the
term fish a bad poker player who gets lucky . Donkey already held the same meaning in English, but
this American player began to use fish with other American players, therefore spreading its use
(Millward 325 326). Furthermore, heavy immigration prevents English purification efforts as well. In
the 19th century, German immigration to the United States increased, contributing educational
loanwords such as semester and kindergarten, food and beverage terms like pretzel and lager, and
accordion and yodel for music. An influx of Yiddish speaking Jews also introduced familiar words like
bagel, pastrami, and matzo (Millward 326 327). Immigrants continue to flock to the United States
from all over the world, bringing their vocabulary with them and consequently squelching purification
attempts. Finally, the constant exchanges of products, information, and research have contributed to
certain cultures gaining recognition for their successes, leading English to adopt words that reflect
such achievements. For example, France is famous for its so called superiority in fashion and food, so
we see loanwords such as chef, gourmet, and restaurant, as well as blouse, lingerie, and suede in
English (Millward 325). Therefore, modern global communication prevents English purification and
renders any attempt ineffective, for loanwords continue to enter the language at significant

As mention before, it is difficult for the players to achieved complete randomization on the moves.
Players will follow some sort of pattern, unconsciously, that the opponents might observe. Therefore,
they can observe the opponents strategy or action history or own payoff history. As a player, we can
observe the pattern being used by our opponents and develop a strategy to counteract the moves. Of
course, this could lead to another learning process for our opponents, for we ourselves, in the end, will

Through this learning process, players will update (increase or decrease) their probability for each

Organ Donation For An Organ Transplant
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services 18 people die each day
waiting for an organ transplant. They also state that one organ donor can save up to eight lives. Those
are significant numbers that should make us very much aware of the monumental impact organ
donation can have on the lives of so many critically ill patients and their families. Although the
tragedy of an accident or horrifying event is sometimes unbearable for the patient and the patient s
family, it may result in what some may call a new hope for those who are awaiting organ
transplantation. Emergency department doctors and nurses play an integral part between life and
death, between trying to save the patient and preserving the option of organ donation in the patient
who cannot be saved.
There are two sources for donor organs. The first source removes organs from recently deceased
people. These organs are called cadaveric organs. A person becomes a cadaveric organ donor by
indicating that they would like to be an organ donor when they die. This decision is usually noted
either on a driver s license or on a health care directive. (Ethics of Organ Transplantation, 2004) The
second source for donor organs is a living person. Living donors are often related to the patient, but
that is not always the case and certainly does not have to be the case. The one factor that must occur
for cadaveric organ donation to be possible is brain death. Brain death is defined as

The Rise Of Pollution Levels
There I was in Shanghai, China, staring at the sun as if I were trying to look at a lamp behind a
curtain. The rise of pollution levels in China has intrigued the minds of people who never even cared
about the environment before. The People s Republic of China is now the largest emitter of CO2 in the
world. But of course, this a global phenomenon: a global phenomenon that in no way started with
China as Alanna Mitchell would agree to. By the end of the 19th century, the powerful duo that was
industrialization and imperialism spread industrial growth from Great Britain to Southeast Asia. From
the opium wars in the mid 19th century to the economic reforms of 1970s, China has been
incorporated into the global economy as the world s manufacturer. And as we know, modern
manufacturing is heavily reliant on fossil fuels. This has put an immense amount of international
pressure on the Chinese to improve their environmental footprint. But sustainable development needs
to start not just with China, but with all major players in the global economy. Mitchell s statement, the
idea that the planet s future might come down to China s choices is hard for the West to fathom (102)
is not only ironic, but a dangerous idea to accept. An historical context of China s industrialization and
urbanization will show you that Western interests in China led to its massive carbon emission. Further,
the root of the problem must be solved the way it started, with help from the West.

Traditional Methods For Evaluating The Capital Investments...
Answer 1
Suggest a methodology to supplement the traditional methods for evaluating the capital investments of
your selected company in the emerging markets to reduce risk. Provide a rationale for your suggested
methodology.
Net present value in conjunction with internal rate of return are the best methods for evaluating the
capital investments of your selected company in the emerging markets to reduce risk.
Net Present Value (NPV) is the difference between the present value of cash inflows and the present
value of cash outflows. NPV is used in capital budgeting to analyse the profitability of a projected
investment or project. A positive net present value indicates that the projected earnings generated by a
project or investment (in present dollars) exceeds the anticipated costs (also in present dollars).
Generally, an investment with a positive NPV will be a profitable one and one with a negative NPV
will result in a net loss. This concept dictates that the only investments that should be made are those
with positive NPV values.
Determining the value of a project is challenging because there are different ways to measure the
value of future cash flows. Because of the time value of money (TVM), money in the present is worth
more than the same amount in the future. This is both because of earnings that could potentially be
made using the money during the intervening time and because of inflation. In other words, a dollar
earned in the future won t be worth as much as one

1800 s. Through the observations from cross pollinating pea plants, Mendel was able to discover the
basic laws of inheritance. Years later genetics would be studied on a multitude of organisms, some
more than others. Drosophila melanogaster or the common fruit fly has been studied in depth for its
great advantages, such as size, reproduction rate, ease of care and inexpensive room and board.
In this experiment we tested to see what the offspring of an unknown cross of an F1 generation would
produce. After observing the F2 generation and recording the data we found some of the Drosophila
showed mutations, two in particular. The mutations were the apterus wings, and sepia eyes. After
collecting our data through observation, a Chi test was conducted resulting in a Chi value of 5.1 and a
p value of .2. Since the p value was greater than 0.05, there was no significant change in the data. This
proved that the Drosophila flies still followed the Mendelian genetics of a 9:3:3:1 ratio.
Introduction: The basis of genetics were established by Gregor Mendel, an Augustinian monk in the
mid to late 1800 s. Through the observations from cross pollinating pea plants, Mendel was able to
discover the basic laws of inheritance. Mendel s experiment was to cross pollinate pea plants and
observe how traits were passed on. He started his experiment with two true breeding pods,

We Choose To Go To The American Spirit Speech Summary
John F. Kennedy s Passionate Appeal to the American Spirit: We Choose to Go to the Moon On
September 12, 1962, John F. Kennedy gave a rhetorically sound speech at Rice University in Houston,
Texas with the intent to rally American support for his space exploration proposition. Kennedy had
proposed his plan to congress a couple months before and this speech was his call to the American
people to stand behind him. While the speech is remembered for its famous line, We choose to go to
the moon, it was a carefully constructed piece of rhetoric. Kennedy s immediate audience extends
beyond the people that were in Rice Stadium that day. His message was intended for the entire
American populace as both a way of informing the people about his plan for space exploration and ...

Kennedy utilizes a form of the known new contract towards the beginning of his speech to show the
audience where they stand in reference to history while creating a sense of urgency. In his approach to
the known new contract, Kennedy conveys where America has been and where America is going.
Kennedy first conveys America s scientific position by stating, Despite the striking fact that most of
the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today... the unanswered and the
unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension. While the first sentence could have been
worded better to express that there are more scientists active than ever before, this section of the
speech conveys that America has many unanswered questions, but it also has the scientific manpower
to answer these questions in order to make space travel a reality. As Kennedy progresses, he
condenses human history into a 50 year timespan with an emphasis on scientific advancements in
order to give the audience perspective by establishing where humankind has been. As he goes from the

Colonialism And Imperialism In Latin America
Throughout the first seven weeks of class, there were numerous readings on the effects of colonization
and imperialism. All the authors wrote about different points, using terms such as formal and informal
colonies, settler mortality rate, modernization and dependency theory, the scramble for Africa, and
more. They each have different arguments but all accurately mention the strong after effects
colonialism and imperialism have on formerly conquered states. These processes are exploitative,
hinder state growth, and create devastating and long term problems.
Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson, and James Robinson explain the reasoning behind the different
types of colonies. They believe that there are two main types of colonies: settler and extractive. ...

Contrasted with formal empires, which have territories directly under control of the colonizer,
informal empires control countries indirectly by using their economies. A notable example of this
would be India during British imperialism. Before India was even a colony, it was controlled through
the British East India Company, which eventually did turn into direct colonization. Informal empires
are generated because many developing countries are forced to rely on a major power in order to be
economically stable. Another author, Walter Rodney, similarly agrees that this system is unfair. His
dependency theory, which counteracts Rostow s modernization theory, states that many struggling
countries will never get to fully develop because rich states will always find a way to get richer,
making poor states poorer. This unjust system is often the lingering effect of imperialism and
colonization because a formerly controlled country still relies on their mother country even after they

Book Of Revelation Research Paper
The majority of Revelation depicts a world at war. The Book of Revelation shows the struggles people
have been through because of sin. God keeps His promises to His people despite what mess they have
created (Class Notes). The Book of Revelation shows that God is the ultimate winner, having the
greatest power, and God s children will also be winners in the end, if they remain faithful to God, by
entering the gates of heaven.
God is the ultimate winner and His love is the greatest power in the world. God defeats all evil and He
will renew the world. The Book of Revelation introduces the restoration when John hears a voice from
the throne in heaven saying, See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they
will be his people,

Theme Of Animal Imagery In A Midsummer Night s Dream
An animal is any living organism other than a human being (OED). When the definition of animals
directly divides them from humankind, examples of half human, half animal creatures are meaningful
yet complicated symbols. A Midsummer Night s Dream plays with the mystical and supernatural by
frequently breaking down the barriers between animals and humans. Fairies are neither human nor
animal, and they live in a world, Fairyland, which is separate from and invisible to humans.
Considering the definition of animal is anything that is not human, the world of fae is unconsciously
rooted in animalistic imagery. This world is also home to other half human creatures such as satyrs,
centaurs, nymphs, mermaids and sprites. A Midsummer Night s Dream thus highlights and breaks
down the barriers between the human and non human world, and with seemingly little purpose. This
essay will analyze the use of animal imagery, particularly through the donkey and serpent, to argue
that animal imagery intensifies the emotions of the play, from exaggerating comedic elements to
accentuating the dark and nightmarish aspects of Fairyland. To provide some context, Shakespeare s A
Midsummer Night s Dream interferes with love through the deception of fairies. When Hermia s
father insists she marry Demetrius, she runs away with Hermia and Lysander. Contrastingly, Helena
chases after an uninterested Demetrius, helplessly in love. The fairies meddle with these two couples
by accidentally casting a love

Essay on Enzymes
Enzymes Enzymes are catalysts. Most are proteins. (A few ribonucleoprotein enzymes have been
discovered and, for some of these, the catalytic activity is in the RNA part rather than the protein part.
Link to discussion of these ribozymes.)
Enzymes bind temporarily to one or more of the reactants of the reaction they catalyze. In doing so,
they lower the amount of activation energy needed and thus speed up the reaction. Most of these
interactions are weak and especially so if the atoms involved are farther than about one angstrom from
each other. So successful binding of enzyme and substrate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the structure of malonic acid allows it to bind to the same site on the enzyme (b). But
there is no oxidation so no speedy release of products. The inhibition is called competitive because if
you increase the ratio of succinic to malonic acid in the mixture, you will gradually restore the rate of
catalysis. At a 50:1 ratio, the two molecules compete on roughly equal terms for the binding
(=catalytic) site on the enzyme.
Factors Affecting Enzyme Action
[IMAGE]The activity of enzymes is strongly affected by changes in pH and temperature. Each
enzyme works best at a certain pH (left graph) and temperature (right graph), its activity decreasing at
values above and below that point. This is not surprising considering the importance of
* tertiary structure (i.e. shape) in enzyme function and
* noncovalent forces, e.g., ionic interactions and hydrogen bonds, in determining that shape.
Examples:
* the protease pepsin works best as a pH of 1 2 (found in the stomach) while
* the protease trypsin is inactive at such a low pH but very active at a pH of 8 (found in the small
intestine as the bicarbonate of the pancreatic fluid neutralizes the arriving stomach contents). [
Discussion]
Changes in pH alter the state of ionization of charged amino acids (e.g., Asp, Lys) that may

  • 2. Detecting And Protecting Against Inside Threats Felipe Affonso Kaustubh M. Phaltankar April 18, 2016 Detecting and protecting against inside threats Introduction Each day our world and our lives depend more on information systems, systems that can guarantee that our informations are secure and available just for our own purpose. Lots of companies work just if critical information which is stored on their databases. It is the responsibility of these companies to guarantee with their costumers that this data is secure. Lots of those companies are concerned about their databases and try to improve their security however. According to last year s Internet Security Report from Symantec, almost no company, whether large or small, is immune to cyber attacks. Five of every six large companies (2500+ employees) were targeted with spear phishing attacks in 2014, a 40 percent increase over the previous year[1]. Normally, companies are aware of theses attacks and are trying to invest more and more in security. It s important to point out that attacks are not just from the outside; breaches and even data leakage can be accomplished by inside employees. So, it s really important to protect against inside and outside attacks. High tech businesses rely primarily on two opposing information values: the dissemination of information for innovation success and the protection of information to retain competitive advantage[2]. These companies know that just physical security isn t enough anymore, it s necessary to implement different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mercy Is A Residential Treatment Facility Essay To start off this journey, you need a little background. Life didn t make much sense when I was a kid. There was lots of abuse and not so much fun. This all led to a place called Mercy Ministries and that is where this journey begins. Mercy is a residential treatment facility. I was introduced to the idea of Mercy in December of 2012, and I was accepted into the program in May of 2013. My entrance date was June 3, 2013. The first thought I had was when am I going to leave this hellish place. Six months had past and I received the month of which was going to be my graduation. I could taste the finish line, I had three months left, I was going to graduate in March. I had no idea what day it was going to be but I knew that I was going to leave with the victory that God had given me. The next 3 months would be spent looking for a place of residence I could call home. So I called my best friend. So when I get out of this place, can I stay with you? Sure, how long do you think you will stay? I will be home for good, so how long do you want me for? If forever works for you, I would be totally fine having you for that long. As I hung up the phone with my best friend, I knew everything would be okay. Life was going to work itself out and I was going to be safe when I went home. The time went on and March got closer, my time had finally come, A DATE!! March 24, 2014, that is the day I would graduate. More phone calls with my best friend ensured me that I ... • 4. Family Guy Character Analysis Family Guy, an Analytical Review by Caleb Packard I am not allowed to watch much TV. Therefore, I must be super selective about what I watch. While I could waste a lot of time watching Duck Dynasty, when it comes to choosing a show, Family Guy is my top selection. I think the popular cartoon comedy Family Guy, written by Seth MacFarlane, is one of the best shows still running today. Among currently running animated sitcoms, there are a few that have current connections to people and events. Most famous of this genre of shows are South Park and Family Guy. Unlike South Park, which follows a group of friends at school, Family Guy is about a family. The Griffin family consists of parents Peter and Lois, their children Chris, Meg, Stewie, and the family dog, Brian. Instead of showcasing the adventures of an individual struggling to balance impulses and responsibilities, Family Guy focuses on the dynamics created by family members who are extreme in their personality traits and very different from each other. Peter, the father, is impulsive, incompetent, and easily excitable. Lois is the stereotypical responsible mother and wife. Meg is a classic case of a teenage girl struggling to fit in at high school. Chris is your average awkward and immature teenage boy. Stewie, the precocious baby, is by far the smartest and most cunning of the cast. Interestingly, the screenwriters often drop hints that he is gay. He is eager to assume adult responsibilities and motivated to have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So the light from background objects such as stars and galaxies will focus because of the action from the foreground objects, which seems like lens imaging and this kind of astronomical phenomena is known as gravitational lens. Since the gravity field of foreground objects has nothing to do with the matter s state and property, we could make use of the gravitational lens to study the matter s distribution of the foreground objects. The gravitational lens is usually used to observe the small angle deflection of light in weak gravity field. So far this phenomena has been verified from star to galaxy and from cluster of galaxies to large scale universe and so many different scales. The gravitational lens seems to be a camera and astronomers deduce the structure of camera from the properties of the image.Simple application of the gravitational lens could be concluded to the following three points. (1)As a cosmic telescope, the gravitational lens makes the remote or dim objects brighter. (2) Because the large scale of the universe s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They shouldn t have been fearful; God was taking care of them. Joshua, who had been the prime minister fro Moses, had been handpicked by God to fulfill the leadership position. As the story says, Joshua had been chosen by God to lead the Israelites. He had shown wisdom and discernment in many situations and he understood the responsibility for leading the people. He was well qualified for the position! Joshua was well qualified for this position, because he had been faithful before in small menial tasks that had been given to him. He had been faithful to God in the little things and now because of the faithfulness God was giving to him this huge responsibility. Reading this made me think about my own life. The cockpits were a common place where all social classes gathered to place bets and watch the match. Although even the smallest town had a cockpit, Regency gentlemen were known to hold contests at their own estate. This pastime was a common practice and even influenced furniture makers to offer cockfighting chairs (GI). Unlike bare knuckle bouts between people, cocks were precisely paired by weight in all the more heavily staked cockfights. Human training was elementary when compared to the training of gamecock. The cocks often had bone or metal spurs strapped over the birds beak to insure a fight to the death. Cockfighting began to diminish in England only after The Royal Society for Cruelty to Animals began to bring actions in the late 1830s, based on an 1835 Act against animal cruelty (GI). Galoob Case Study Discussion on court rulings: Fair use perspective The district court concluded that Galoob is not liable for copyright infringement under U.S. Code § 107, a fair use defense against direct infringement claim of Nintendo s copyrighted works. In determining fair use factors, the court has greatly relied on the supreme court ruling in the court case Sony v. Universal City Studios. (1984) in the context of contributory infringement. The doctrine of fair use states that any individual may reproduce a copyrighted work for a fair use and that the copyright owner does not possess the exclusive right to such a use. Thus, permitting the holder of the copyrighted material to use it in a reasonable manner without the consent of the copyright owner. I remember around three o clock that afternoon I was standing way the hell up on top of Thomsen Hill. You could see the whole field from there, and you could see the two teams bashing each other all over the place. You could hear them all yelling. Next, on pg 153 Holden claims When I finally got down off the radiator and went out to the hat check room, I was crying and all. I don t know why, but I was. Corruption Of Inequity And The Injustice In The World Today Jaylen Lewis Dr. Carrza DuBose Lewis 1 English Composition 102:02 November 12, 2017 Poem #1 When talking about the inequity and the injustice in the world today; it is important that many have topics such as police brutality, injustice, and racism are bought up throughout the discussion. Over the years African Americans have been victims of discrimination, Jim Crow, segregation, and many more unconstitutional acts of racism and still have overcame it all. Also, there are still crooked people in the criminal justice system such as police officers, judges, jurors, and many others; understanding that being African American has a rough price to pay in the United States of America without the corruption of the criminal justice system and African Americans as a whole need to realize. Lauryn Hill states you can t handle the truth in a courtroom of lies. Also, In the poem Mystery of Inequity by Lauryn Hill she examines corruption to talk about crooked lawyers, false indictments, and slavery. In the poem Mystery of Inequity Lauryn Hill explores corruption to talk about crooked lawyers. Public defenders are prime examples of crooked lawyers because they are appointed by the judge to represent alleged offenders if they cannot afford a real attorney. Most of the time if an alleged criminal is represented by a public defender nine times out of ten he or she is going to be found guilty according to either the jury or the judge. They are hired by the government but are supposed to work for the people; which in many cases does not work in the defendant s favor and causes the person to serve prison time for the crime they did or did not commit at that time. Also, public defenders work with the prosecutors more than they work with the alleged criminal themselves. This is why public are known as crooked lawyers and are not supposed to be in used while an alleged criminal is preparing or on trial because they will most likely ask that person if they want to take a plea deal or also known as a plea bargain; which is the agreement in any criminal case between the prosecutor and defendant whereby the defendant agrees to plead guilty to a particular charge in return for some concession from the prosecutor. The movie Arrival, directed by Denis Villeneuve attempts to answer these questions. The movie begins with an expert linguist Louise Banks, (Amy Adams) losing her only daughter to cancer at a young age. This is an important key to the storyline, but it gets set aside as soon as twelve gigantic unidentified space craft appear in different places around the world. Within a day Louise is summoned by the United States Military to decipher the language of the aliens. Shortly after arriving at the base, Louise is sent into the large black shell along with a team of men and physics specialist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner). The door to the shell only opened every eighteen hours. Once inside, the pod leads to a luminous chamber with a large glass screen like a movie theater. On the other side of the glass emerged from the fog; two squid like creatures that were later named Heptapods. Because the military did not know the language of the aliens, they needed Louise to determine a way to communicate with these creatures and figure out why they were here. Reese and her mother have an interdependent relationship, meaning that the people involved in conflict rely on or need each other in some way and have an actual relationship with each other. They are also interacting, which means that conflicts are created and sustained through verbal and nonverbal communication. • 19. Justice, The Necession Of Justice In Ovid s Metamorphosis Justice, what is justice? Is justice the administration of law, a way to punish the wrong, create an example for the spectators? Yes, Indeed, by definition justice is the administration of law, it is to push the wrongdoers according to laws. However, in Ovid s Metamorphosis, justice is not just at all. Females are given a harsher punishment than males. Demigods are punished while other gods are not. In Metamorphosis justice is controlled by the superior (the gods), while the inferior (mortals) are always punished whether they committed a crime or not. For example, the story of Io, she was a fair nymph who caught the eye of Jupiter (Zeus), and was punished for many days. This story is one of the many that Ovid writes about in Metamorphosis, where a human or female was punished without fault. When people think of justice, they think of an image of scale carried by a blind women, believing justice to be blind. However in Ovid s Metamorphosis, justice is not blind. As I stated earlier, the story of Io, a fair nymph who caught the eye of Jupiter, was raped by Jupiter and then turned into a cow because Jupiter had taken an interest in her. When Ovid writes, Juno... blazing with anger... she wasted no time in venting her fury by sending a horrible demon to frighten the eyes of Io... a goading terror was planted deep in her heart, which hounded her over the world in flight... the groans that she uttered, the tears that she shed... pleading... to grant her the end to her suffering... he is describing the pain of Io, but she was at no fault. Jupiter should have been punished for not being loyal to juno, but he was not punished, a human, a female that had no fault was. A Project On Replacing Planning Commission A Project on NITI AAYOG REPLACING PLANNING COMMISSION Sociology II Winter Semester 2014 15 ___________________________________________________________________________ Manthan Jindal ID No. : 214033 ___________________________________________________________________________ Introduction: Planning Commission is a very old system and it will have to be rejuvenated, it will have to be changed a lot. Sometimes it costs more to repair the old house, but, it gives us no satisfaction. Thereafter, we have a feeling that it would be better to construct a new house altogether and therefore within a short period, we will replace the planning commission with a new institution having a new design and structure, a new body, a new soul, a new thinking, a new direction, a new faith towards forging a new direction to lead the country based on creative thinking, public private partnership, optimum utilization of resources, utilization of youth power of the nation, to promote the aspirations of state governments seeking development, to empower the state governments and to empower the federal structure. The above quote was said by PM Modi in his speech at Red Fort on 68th Independence Day. He announced the formation of a new institution to replace 65 years old planning commission on that day. NITI Aayog is a brainchild of Modi led BJP Government. Primarily it aims to increase the role of states in setting up economic policies for them. NITI (National Institution for ... • 25. Chemical Weathering Lab Report Jerry Valente Earth Science 1 11/10/17 Chemical Weathering Background Information Chemical weathering occurs when the erosion of rocks and the disintegration of rocks are caused by chemical reactions with water and substances dissolved in it. This can occur in places where rainfall is common, it occurs more rapidly at higher temperatures. Since high temperatures and damp areas cause the chemical weathering process to increase, you can infer that chemical weathering occurs more frequently in the spring. There are different types of chemical weathering, the three big ones being solution, hydrolysis, and oxidation. Solution weathering occurs when sulphuric acid in the air mixes with rainwater turning it into acid rain. This is most common in highly polluted areas such as China which is a very big country with a lot of cities and rural manufacturing plants. Acidic rain can remove/damage rocks, limestone is especially vulnerable to weathering by rain water containing CO2. The next type, hydrolysis weathering, breaks down rocks by acidic water to produce clay and a soluble salt. The only rock not affected by hydrolysis is quartz. Finally the last type of weathering is the breakdown of rocks by oxygen and water called oxidation, which makes rocks less resistant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The material should be biologically compatible with the host tissue so it does not cause an immune or inflammatory response. (Pluta, Malina, Sobczak Kupiec, 2012). While the cells grow on the scaffold they generate a matrix around themselves, the scaffold provides structure and is eventually absorbed by the body; leaving the newly formed tissue to manage mechanical support. (Pluta, Malina, Sobczak Kupiec, 2012). The scaffold needs to be absorbed by the surrounding tissue at a rate compatible with the rate of tissue growth, so the new tissue can function independently and avoid the need for surgical removal. Lastly, to ensure functionality, the mechanical properties of the Scaffold should compatible with the tissue type. (Pluta, Malina, Sobczak Kupiec, 2012; Chan Leong, 2008). • 28. Outline The Doctrine Of R2P OUTLINE THE DOCTRINE OF R2P Over centuries the international community has witnessed the deadly harm of sovereign states that have demonstrated acts of colossal inhumanity, such as the atrocities of the Holocaust, Khmer Rouge and Rwanda. All these episodes have contributed of an introduction to a new paradigm of international of law, The Responsibly to Protect (R2P). This was adopted unanimously in 2005 by United Nations General assembly World Summit. The R2P doctrine is based on 3 pillars of responsibility: 1. Each nation state is obligated to protect its populace from crimes such as genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity . 2.The international community has to encourage states to uphold their role in ensuring R2P is adequately met. 3. If the nation state fails to protect its populace from these crimes, it therefore it becomes an implication for the international community to collectively take action. Notably this must be in accordance to article 39 of the United Nations Charter. Hence, academic scholar Bellamy reinforces this; R2P offers the best change in our own time to build an international community that is less tolerant of mass atrocities and more predisposed to preventing them . However it must be noted that the doctrine of R2P is not legally binding. Namely, the internet provides millions of people access to nearly every inch of the world, thus exposing gamers, bloggers, and mere web browers to foreign sources. As a result, English, whether intentionally or not, borrows words from these sources to the point that dictionaries struggle to keep up. For example, an American online poker player explained how his opponent, a Romanian, used the term fish a bad poker player who gets lucky . Donkey already held the same meaning in English, but this American player began to use fish with other American players, therefore spreading its use (Millward 325 326). Furthermore, heavy immigration prevents English purification efforts as well. In the 19th century, German immigration to the United States increased, contributing educational loanwords such as semester and kindergarten, food and beverage terms like pretzel and lager, and accordion and yodel for music. An influx of Yiddish speaking Jews also introduced familiar words like bagel, pastrami, and matzo (Millward 326 327). Immigrants continue to flock to the United States from all over the world, bringing their vocabulary with them and consequently squelching purification attempts. Finally, the constant exchanges of products, information, and research have contributed to certain cultures gaining recognition for their successes, leading English to adopt words that reflect such achievements. For example, France is famous for its so called superiority in fashion and food, so we see loanwords such as chef, gourmet, and restaurant, as well as blouse, lingerie, and suede in English (Millward 325). They also state that one organ donor can save up to eight lives. Those are significant numbers that should make us very much aware of the monumental impact organ donation can have on the lives of so many critically ill patients and their families. Although the tragedy of an accident or horrifying event is sometimes unbearable for the patient and the patient s family, it may result in what some may call a new hope for those who are awaiting organ transplantation. Emergency department doctors and nurses play an integral part between life and death, between trying to save the patient and preserving the option of organ donation in the patient who cannot be saved. There are two sources for donor organs. The first source removes organs from recently deceased people. These organs are called cadaveric organs. A person becomes a cadaveric organ donor by indicating that they would like to be an organ donor when they die. But of course, this a global phenomenon: a global phenomenon that in no way started with China as Alanna Mitchell would agree to. By the end of the 19th century, the powerful duo that was industrialization and imperialism spread industrial growth from Great Britain to Southeast Asia. From the opium wars in the mid 19th century to the economic reforms of 1970s, China has been incorporated into the global economy as the world s manufacturer. And as we know, modern manufacturing is heavily reliant on fossil fuels. This has put an immense amount of international pressure on the Chinese to improve their environmental footprint. Provide a rationale for your suggested methodology. Net present value in conjunction with internal rate of return are the best methods for evaluating the capital investments of your selected company in the emerging markets to reduce risk. Net Present Value (NPV) is the difference between the present value of cash inflows and the present value of cash outflows. NPV is used in capital budgeting to analyse the profitability of a projected investment or project. A positive net present value indicates that the projected earnings generated by a project or investment (in present dollars) exceeds the anticipated costs (also in present dollars). Generally, an investment with a positive NPV will be a profitable one and one with a negative NPV will result in a net loss. This concept dictates that the only investments that should be made are those with positive NPV values. Determining the value of a project is challenging because there are different ways to measure the value of future cash flows. Because of the time value of money (TVM), money in the present is worth more than the same amount in the future. This is both because of earnings that could potentially be made using the money during the intervening time and because of inflation. In other words, a dollar earned in the future won t be worth as much as one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Common Fruit Fly By Gregor Mendel Abstract: The basis of genetics were established by Gregor Mendel, an Augustinian monk in the mid to late 1800 s. Through the observations from cross pollinating pea plants, Mendel was able to discover the basic laws of inheritance. Years later genetics would be studied on a multitude of organisms, some more than others. Drosophila melanogaster or the common fruit fly has been studied in depth for its great advantages, such as size, reproduction rate, ease of care and inexpensive room and board. In this experiment we tested to see what the offspring of an unknown cross of an F1 generation would produce. After observing the F2 generation and recording the data we found some of the Drosophila showed mutations, two in particular. The mutations were the apterus wings, and sepia eyes. After collecting our data through observation, a Chi test was conducted resulting in a Chi value of 5.1 and a p value of .2. Since the p value was greater than 0.05, there was no significant change in the data. This proved that the Drosophila flies still followed the Mendelian genetics of a 9:3:3:1 ratio. • 40. We Choose To Go To The American Spirit Speech Summary John F. Kennedy s Passionate Appeal to the American Spirit: We Choose to Go to the Moon On September 12, 1962, John F. Kennedy gave a rhetorically sound speech at Rice University in Houston, Texas with the intent to rally American support for his space exploration proposition. Kennedy had proposed his plan to congress a couple months before and this speech was his call to the American people to stand behind him. While the speech is remembered for its famous line, We choose to go to the moon, it was a carefully constructed piece of rhetoric. Kennedy s immediate audience extends beyond the people that were in Rice Stadium that day. His message was intended for the entire American populace as both a way of informing the people about his plan for space exploration and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kennedy utilizes a form of the known new contract towards the beginning of his speech to show the audience where they stand in reference to history while creating a sense of urgency. In his approach to the known new contract, Kennedy conveys where America has been and where America is going. Kennedy first conveys America s scientific position by stating, Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today... the unanswered and the unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension. While the first sentence could have been worded better to express that there are more scientists active than ever before, this section of the speech conveys that America has many unanswered questions, but it also has the scientific manpower to answer these questions in order to make space travel a reality. As Kennedy progresses, he condenses human history into a 50 year timespan with an emphasis on scientific advancements in order to give the audience perspective by establishing where humankind has been. As he goes from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Colonialism And Imperialism In Latin America Throughout the first seven weeks of class, there were numerous readings on the effects of colonization and imperialism. All the authors wrote about different points, using terms such as formal and informal colonies, settler mortality rate, modernization and dependency theory, the scramble for Africa, and more. They each have different arguments but all accurately mention the strong after effects colonialism and imperialism have on formerly conquered states. These processes are exploitative, hinder state growth, and create devastating and long term problems. Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson, and James Robinson explain the reasoning behind the different types of colonies. They believe that there are two main types of colonies: settler and extractive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contrasted with formal empires, which have territories directly under control of the colonizer, informal empires control countries indirectly by using their economies. A notable example of this would be India during British imperialism. Before India was even a colony, it was controlled through the British East India Company, which eventually did turn into direct colonization. Informal empires are generated because many developing countries are forced to rely on a major power in order to be economically stable. Another author, Walter Rodney, similarly agrees that this system is unfair. His dependency theory, which counteracts Rostow s modernization theory, states that many struggling countries will never get to fully develop because rich states will always find a way to get richer, making poor states poorer. This unjust system is often the lingering effect of imperialism and colonization because a formerly controlled country still relies on their mother country even after they gain ... • 42. Book Of Revelation Research Paper The majority of Revelation depicts a world at war. The Book of Revelation shows the struggles people have been through because of sin. God keeps His promises to His people despite what mess they have created (Class Notes). The Book of Revelation shows that God is the ultimate winner, having the greatest power, and God s children will also be winners in the end, if they remain faithful to God, by entering the gates of heaven. God is the ultimate winner and His love is the greatest power in the world. God defeats all evil and He will renew the world. The Book of Revelation introduces the restoration when John hears a voice from the throne in heaven saying, See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his people, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Theme Of Animal Imagery In A Midsummer Night s Dream An animal is any living organism other than a human being (OED). When the definition of animals directly divides them from humankind, examples of half human, half animal creatures are meaningful yet complicated symbols. A Midsummer Night s Dream plays with the mystical and supernatural by frequently breaking down the barriers between animals and humans. Fairies are neither human nor animal, and they live in a world, Fairyland, which is separate from and invisible to humans. Considering the definition of animal is anything that is not human, the world of fae is unconsciously rooted in animalistic imagery. This world is also home to other half human creatures such as satyrs, centaurs, nymphs, mermaids and sprites. A Midsummer Night s Dream thus highlights and breaks down the barriers between the human and non human world, and with seemingly little purpose. This essay will analyze the use of animal imagery, particularly through the donkey and serpent, to argue that animal imagery intensifies the emotions of the play, from exaggerating comedic elements to accentuating the dark and nightmarish aspects of Fairyland. To provide some context, Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream interferes with love through the deception of fairies. When Hermia s father insists she marry Demetrius, she runs away with Hermia and Lysander. Contrastingly, Helena chases after an uninterested Demetrius, helplessly in love. The fairies meddle with these two couples by accidentally casting a love ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay on Enzymes Enzymes Enzymes are catalysts. Most are proteins. (A few ribonucleoprotein enzymes have been discovered and, for some of these, the catalytic activity is in the RNA part rather than the protein part. Link to discussion of these ribozymes.) Enzymes bind temporarily to one or more of the reactants of the reaction they catalyze. In doing so, they lower the amount of activation energy needed and thus speed up the reaction. Most of these interactions are weak and especially so if the atoms involved are farther than about one angstrom from each other. So successful binding of enzyme and substrate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because the structure of malonic acid allows it to bind to the same site on the enzyme (b). But there is no oxidation so no speedy release of products. The inhibition is called competitive because if you increase the ratio of succinic to malonic acid in the mixture, you will gradually restore the rate of catalysis. At a 50:1 ratio, the two molecules compete on roughly equal terms for the binding (=catalytic) site on the enzyme. Factors Affecting Enzyme Action [IMAGE]The activity of enzymes is strongly affected by changes in pH and temperature. Each enzyme works best at a certain pH (left graph) and temperature (right graph), its activity decreasing at values above and below that point. This is not surprising considering the importance of * tertiary structure (i.e. shape) in enzyme function and * noncovalent forces, e.g., ionic interactions and hydrogen bonds, in determining that shape. Examples: * the protease pepsin works best as a pH of 1 2 (found in the stomach) while * the protease trypsin is inactive at such a low pH but very active at a pH of 8 (found in the small intestine as the bicarbonate of the pancreatic fluid neutralizes the arriving stomach contents). [ Discussion] Changes in pH alter the state of ionization of charged amino acids (e.g., Asp, Lys) that may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
