Common Core Standards Literature Review
Literature Review What is the common core? The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) defines
the knowledge and skills in English language arts and mathematics that students need for success
in college and careers upon high school graduation (Santos, Darling Hammond, Cheuk (2012)).
The common core was created, to provide clear academic benchmarks with more concise academic
standards for essential learning that will prepare students to be college and career ready (Liebtag,
E. (2013)). The common core standards have then, been introduced and applied to most schools in
the U.S, and although it may have its controversies, the major issue, is its effect on ELL (English
Language Learners) students. ELs currently constitute 10 percent of the U.S.... Show more content

According to Duguay, A., Massoud, L., Tabaku, L., Himmel, J., Sugarman, J. (2013, September),
As educators have examined the standards more deeply, concerns have arisen about their
implementation in classrooms with diverse groups of students, including English learners . Not
only this, but the concept of math also has its visible adversities. According to Robertson, K.
(2009), Although it is easy to assume that many English language learners (ELLs) will excel in
math because math is a universal language and students may have had prior educational experience
that included mathematical instruction, that assumption can lead educators astray . Many teachers
are struggling with the, increasingly rigorous grade level content instruction; by content area
teachers, many of whom are newly incorporating language development techniques in their subject
area classes (Duguay, A., Massoud, L., Tabaku, L., Himmel, J., Sugarman, J. (2013, September)).
The common core may be the stepping for detailed curriculum, but it is seeming that, it cannot be
tailored to all of the diverse populations of our nation (Liebtag, E. (2013)). The expectations of the
common core exacerbate the academics for ELL students. According to, HAKUTA, K., SANTOS,
M., FANG, Z. (2013), when ELs are isolated for direct language instruction,

Abstract
The application of Field programmable Gate Array(FPGA) in the development of electronics
circuit control scheme has drawn much attention lately due to its shorter design cycle, lower cost
and higher density. This paper presents an FPGA based gate signal generator for single phase
multilevel inverter employing an sinusoidal PWM switching strategy to control its output voltage.
The XILINX FPGA based single phase multilevel PWM inverter was constructed by adding a bi
directional switches to the conventional bridge topology. The inverter can produce three and five
different output voltage levels across the load. FPGA is chosen for the hardware implementation of
switching strategy mainly due to its high computation speed that can ensure the accuracy of the
instants that gating signals are generated. VHDL language is used
to model the inverter switching strategies The PWM pulses was downloaded in
FPGA(XC3S400PQ208) from Spartan 3. In addition to FPGA, Xilinx/modelsim software was used
for simulation and verification of the proposed

Elementary Secondary Education Act Of 1965 And Its...
Education is valued as one of the most important aspects of socio economic group mobilization and
social elevation in the United States. Operating under a human capital ideology education in the
U.S. is a means to provide education to individuals in an effort for continued economic
advancement for our nation. However, as times change educationfails to completely change with it.
Secondary educationis no longer seen as a means to earning financial stability. Primary education
encompasses complexity of issues that still remain to be addressed wholly. With the creation of the
U.S. Constitution states are given power to construct education. Educational reform continues to be
complex with ever changing politicians and platforms failing to have the time to create long lasting
systematic changes but also not fully grasp educational challenges collectively. Educational reform
such as Elementary Secondary Education Act of 1965 and its versions No Child Left Behind Act
and Every Child Succeeds Act 2015 has changed the way students learn and teachers teach. The
need for continued educational innovations is of the utmost importance. We as a society continue to
strive for creating organizational policies and pedagogies that not only enhance research but a allow
for a greater society understanding and applicability to enhance education for millions.
Innovation is a term I ve frequently heard in the realm of business and technology implying new

Summary Of Rodman Philbrick s Freak The Mighty
Rodman Philbrick s Freak The Mighty is about a tall twelve year old boy named Maxwell Kane,
who is a learning disabled and lives with his grandparents after his father, went to jail. He was
always getting bullied at school. He had no friends. Until one day, a boy who had a small body
for his age had an ornithopter (an aircraft that flaps its wings) that was stuck in a tree. Maxwell
got the ornithopter from the tree and returned it to the little boy. He introduced himself as Kevin
but Maxwell thought of calling him Freak instead, because of his intellectual brain. Freak was a
very smart twelve year old who had to use crutches to walk. Maxwell had a feeling that they would
get along very well. They had a long conversation between each other... Show more content on

Max was scared and he kept dreaming about the moment when his father steps into the house to
kidnap him away. On the night of Parole, that dream had become reality. Max s father kidnapped
Max away quietly from his grandparents and took him away to Loretta s house. Every night, he
would tie up Max s hands and legs. He would also put tape over Max s mouth to avoid him from
screaming. Max had to go through a lot of pain. Whenever Killer Kane would ask Max a
question about trusting him, Max had to always answer with a yes, because he was too scared
to say no. Max had to go through so much trouble with his father. One night, Max s father left
Max tied up because he had to meet Iggy who was his best friend. Loretta came to the rescue and
untied Max and told him that Iggy is distracting Killer Kane so Max can escape. Out of nowhere,
Killer Kane tried to choke Loretta to the death, but then Max screamed out that he saw him kill
his mother the same way he was trying to kill Loretta. Killer Kane was angry so he grabbed Max
by the collar and pushed him away. Freak came to the rescue with a gun that had sulfuric acid
and squirted it out at Killer Kane. Max quickly took Freak and escaped while Killer Kane chasing
after them. Killer Kane could not escape as Iggy called the cops to take him away.
Finally, it was Freak s birthday where he had received a computer as his gift, which was very
exciting! Suddenly, Freak had a major seizure. After having a seizure on his birthday, Freak was
admitted into the hospital, where he gives Max a blank book, telling him to write the story of

A Trip To The Railway Essay
So they all sat down on a great flat grey stone that had pushed itself up out of the grass; it was one
of many that lay about on the hillside, and when Mother came out to look for them at eight o clock,
she found them deeply asleep in a contented, sun warmed bunch.
They had made an excellent fire, and had set the kettle on it at about half past five. So that by eight
the fire had been out for some time, the water had all boiled away, and the bottom was burned out
of the kettle. Also they had not thought of washing the crockery before they set the table.
But it doesn t matter the cups and saucers, I mean, said Mother. Because I ve found another room I

That thought was double, and consisted, like the bits of information in the Child s Guide to
Knowledge, of a question and an answer.
Q. Where shall we go?
A. To the railway.
So to the railway they went, and as soon as they started for the railway they saw where the garden
had hidden itself. It was right behind the stables, and it had a high wall all round.
Oh, never mind about the garden now! cried Peter. Mother told me this morning where it was. It ll
keep till tomorrow. Let s get to the railway.
The way to the railway was all down hill over smooth, short turf with here and there furze bushes
and grey and yellow rocks sticking out like candied peel from the top of a cake.
The way ended in a steep run and a wooden fence and there was the railway with the shining metals
and the telegraph wires and posts and signals.
They all climbed on to the top of the fence, and then suddenly there was a rumbling sound that
made them look along the line to the right, where the dark mouth of a tunnel opened itself in the
face of a rocky cliff; next moment a train had rushed out of the tunnel with a shriek and a snort,
and had slid noisily past them. They felt the rush of its passing, and the pebbles on the line jumped
and rattled under it as it went by.
Oh! said Roberta, drawing a long breath; it was like a great dragon tearing by. Did you feel it fan us

African Americans In The Help By Kathryn Stockett
One of the most inspirational and well known activists for blacks none as Rosa Parks once said I
have never been what you would call just an integrationist. I know I ve been called that...
Integrating that bus wouldn t mean more equality. Even when there was segregation, there was
plenty of integration in the South, but it was for the benefit and convenience of the white
person, not us ( Parks ). This quote is from a time when the color of peoples skin was more
important than who the people really were and a time where most blacks were treated terribly, the
1960s. For years, many authors have tried to write books that captured just how poorly African
Americans were treated. The Help by Kathryn Stockett is one of the few books written by a... Show

The entire book was written to show the relationship between black maids and their white
bosses. Racism is shown throughout the entire book from many different people. One example
of racism is when a worker knocks on the door of a white woman s house to ask for water and
where to go to the bathroom. The door was answered by a black maid named Minny but the fear
in his voice is obvious when he says Beg a pardon, he say, but where... He stand there a minute,
look down at his feet. Where might I go to make water? (Stocket 23) Something as simple as
using the bathroom was a big problem for black workers because they knew if a white person
were to catch them, they would be punished. Just because of the color of their skin, black people
were treated poorly and could not even use the same bathroom. Another example of racism and
discrimination is when a white woman, Miss Hilly tells everyone that Minny is a stealing maid
who cannot be trusted. Because it is the words of a white woman against a black, everyone turns
their back on Minny and she struggles to find a job. This is shown when Minny says She telling
everbody in town I m stealing! That s why I can t get no work! That witch done turned me into the
Smart Mouthed Criminal Maid a Hinds County (24). Whites had so much control over the African
Americans that if they did not like someone, they could say anything and be believed. Both racism

Character Changes In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
Imagine if you were in a happy relationship and then you got slaughtered by a frozen lamb leg.
Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl is a story about a husband and wife, and their relationship.
Throughout the story, Mary and Patrick go through many changes. In Lamb to the Slaughter by
Roald Dahl, Mary undergoes many character changes, mainly motivated by Patrick leaving her,
Patrick s death, and covering up her crime. Mary starts off the story very happy. She has the
picture perfect life, as She loved him for the way he sat loosely in a chair, for the way he came
in a door, or moved slowly across the room with long strides. She loved intent, far look in his eyes
when they rested in her, the funny shape of the mouth, and especially the way he remained silent
about his tiredness, sitting still with himself until the whiskey had taken some of it away (Dahl 1).
Mary loves her husbandso much, she thinks that everything is perfect, she has the perfect
husband and the perfect baby on the way. Everything is perfect until Patrick says, I ve got
something to tell you (Dahl 2). Patrick tells Mary that he is leaving her, he will give her money
and make sure she and the baby were taken care of, but he is leaving. Mary is not happy, Her first
instinct was not to believe any of it, to reject it all. It occurred to her that perhaps he hadn t even
spoken, that she herself had imagined the whole thing (Dahl 2). Mary is devastated, her life is
falling apart and she is trying to keep it all together. This is where we see a big change in Mary.
She goes to get meat for supper, when she returns Patrick says, For God s sake, he said, hearing
her, but not turning round. Don t make supper for me. I m going out. At that point, Mary
Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of
lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head (Dahl 2).
Mary has been pushed over the edge here, she was so frustrated and betrayed that she reacted
rashly. Her character just completely shifted. She was so happy with the perfect life, now she
doesn t have a husband and she s a murderer. She has to think about what is going to happen next

Mangonada Margaritas
Mangonada Margaritas. Yep, you read that right! All of the flavors of a mangonada blended into a

drink made with lime juice, chili lime seasoning, and chamoy sauce. So I incorporated those same
ingredients in my margarita! It s sweet, with a little bit of heat, and some tequila to wake things up

I love chamoy sauce, but if you ve ever read the label on the back of the bottle you will see
ingredients that I do not particularly care to consume. So I decided to make my own organic
chamoy sauce in order to make my Mangonada Margaritas. And it was a total success! To make

In 1928, Stalin implemented the First Five Year Plan, which was meant to guide the economy
into rapid industrialization. As a result, in 1928, collective farms were established all over the
country, in an attempt to increase food supply for urban communities and raw materials.
However, famine once again ravaged the state, causing the deaths of millions. Starting in 1936
and continuing until 1938, Stalin orchestrated a series of campaigns of political repression and
persecution, sentencing over a million people to forced labor camps, known as Gulags, or to be
executed. This became known as The Great Purge, or The Great Terror. Stalin revealed the new
Soviet Constitution in 1936. In 1939, the Treaty of Non Aggression between Germany and the
Soviet Union was signed in Moscow. The secret details of this non aggression pact divided
eastern Europe in to German and Soviet spheres of influence. As a result, on September 1st and
17th, Poland was invaded by Germany and the Soviet Union. The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia
and Lithuania were annexed by the USSR. Finland, which according to the pact fell in the Soviet
sphere of influence, resisted diplomatic tries to move back it s border, thus resulting in the Winter
War, in which the Finns ceded portions of Karelia to the Soviet Union. On June 22nd, 1941,
Germany broke the non aggression pact and invaded the Soviet Union

Tacoma Narrows Bridge
The Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State had taken three years to complete its building
process. It experienced a terrible fate as it collapsed only four months after final construction.
During its short existence only vertical vibrations of the bridge were noticed, and the bridge
became famously known as Galloping Gertie due to the swaying of the roadway under high wind
conditions. A positive correlation was observed between the wind s speeds and the bridges
vibrations in certain tests, yet contradictory results are also in existence which prove no
correlation between the two. Tourists who paid the bridge toll to venture across the swaying
bridge, encompassed by seemingly disappearing vehicles, often considered this bridge a roller
coaster ride with a riding fee tacked on.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a replacement for the ferry system in place to venture across the Tacoma Narrows, the 2,800
feet long bridge was created. However, in an attempt to make the bridge more cost effective, it was
built with an unusual design for a suspension bridge an extremely thin frame of only thirty nine
feet. This created sufficient space for only two lanes on the roadway. Originally, the bridge was
supposed to be made more sturdy through the addition of trusses, yet there were inadequate funds.
As a result, a cheaper alternative 8 foot girders were added on. They were included on the entire
expanse of the bridge. However, there was not a sufficient stiffening effect created on the bridge by
these girders. There was not enough research in existence on aerodynamic stability for suspension
bridges, and wind tunneling/aerodynamic lift was thus not properly accounted

How does the poet vividly convey ideas concerning the influence that nature has upon man?
Compare and Contrast at least two poets from cluster one giving detailed close analysis throughout.
(Comparison of Overlooking the River Stour by Thomas Hardy and Landscape by Michael
Longley.)
Equally Overlooking the River Stour by Thomas Hardy and Landscape by Michael Longley portray
to the reader that nature can consume and influence mans behaviour. They also both highlight how
easily things can come and go through our lives unnoticed and insignificant, without realising its
value until it s lost.
Longley s use of simile is very effective when conveying to the reader the influence of nature upon

The use of pathetic fallacy not only sets the mood but also allows the reader to appreciate how
easily the weather affect us as humans and cause a change in our moods. In contrast Longley uses
the structure of his poem to show how nature has occupied him; towards the end of the poem
enjambment is used to represent how his thoughts have been lost in natureAnd the otter s
skidmarks melting into the water this not only uses the enjambment to represent how broken and
dismembered his thought are but uses the metaphor to show how his thought are being washed as
he is absorbed deeper and deeper into nature and its complexity.
Longley s poem however uses several different techniques to show natures effect on man, the use of
sibilance within Landscape vividly conveys how nature can influence someone s thoughts. Within
stanza oneLike skeins of sheep s wool: is a bulls horn silting depicts how before the poet was at
peace in nature all his complicated thoughts were tangled and intertwined, however now they are all
started to crumble into nothing. This technique is used to emphasise a point due to the use of
intense sounds, such as s which allows the reader to further think and articulate themselves around
the point as the techniques use makes the stanza far more predominant.
As a whole Longley s poem landscape has a far more rounded ending.

Nursing Homes: Why they should be closely monitored
Is it worth putting your loved ones in a nursing home facility? According to Centers for Disease

neglected, or financially exploited. Family members of an elderly person might assume that
because they are paying such a large amount of money for assistance and a room in the facility, that

The Beauty And Richness Of Autumn By John Keats
At one time or another, every person has experienced the beauty of summer. In this time of the
year, nature is full of life, the weather is at its finest, and the paramount joys of life can be
experienced to their fullest. Then the fall comes, the trees turn lovely shades of red and yellow, and
the wind offers a nice chill breeze for relief. Unfortunately, seasons change and the beauty that
people once experienced vanishes. People focusing only on the material and petty aspects of life,
rather than the beauty around them, will let life pass them, missing out on the true wonders of the
world. In his poem To Autumn, John Keatsutilizes imagery to express the importance of indulging
in the beauties of nature, while alive, because humans are mortal beings bound by the limits of time.
Throughout the beginning of the poem, Keats touches on the beauty and richness of autumn. He
accomplishes this by introducing distinct fall imagery. For example, Keats writes in lines 5 and 6,
To bend with apples the moss d cottage trees; And fill all fruit with the ripeness of to the cores
(414). Having the trees branches being bent by the weight of the apples and the fruit being ripe to
its core, the narrator points to the plumpness and maturity of the fruit. Typically, fruit reaches this
fullness in autumn when it is ready to harvest. Keats uses this delectable and pleasant image of the
fruit to not only demonstrate the mouthwatering joys nature has to offer during this season, but to

Archetypal Theory In Pygmalion
Ever since we were little children we have been able to see the world around us. We noticed that
there are colors and images but we never truly knew what they meant. Then, we were brought
into school where we were then taught what color is what color and how there are two types of
colors: light and dark. We were taught that the light colors usually mean happiness while the
darker colors represent sadness. Colors and images are how the idea of Archetypal Theory came to
be, helping us discover a deeper meaning within the text. After watching the movies My Fair Lady,
Princess and The Frog, and reading the book Pygmalion, I was able to discover how colors and
images help us better understand the character s journeys from rags to riches. At the beginning
of all three of these stories the characters start out as some nobodies, but then through the
archetypal theory thrown into these pieces so we see how they transform into becoming happy
and wealthy people near the end of the stories. At the beginning of all three of these stories, colors
help us understand who the characters really are. For all of these pieces we are able to see how
dirty and poor both Eliza and Tiana are starting off as. In Pygmalion, Eliza is described as having a
brown skirt with a coarse apron. Her boots are much the worse for wear. She is no doubt as clean as
she can afford to be (Shaw 1. 13). If we dig deeper into the meaning of this quotation we can see
what these colors truly mean. George Bernard

Sacrifice is one of the roots in life. To have one thing, another has to be sacrificed. Just like with

what the Bible says about marriage. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is

rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes

the opposite. He is arrogant, rude, irritable, resentful of their marriage, points out all of Orleanna s
wrongdoings, and it can be inferred that Nathan might hit his wife if she does something that he is

Food as an Important Symbol in the Importance of Being...
Answer 3: Food plays an important part in any situation; it can make or break the problems. In
the Importance of Being Earnest, food plays a very vital role in helping create movement in the
plot. The play, importance of being earnest by Oscar Wilde uses food as an essential motif
/symbol of an act of working out problems. Set in the Victorian erathe tea time custom is vastly a
part of the play.
From the very beginning where Algernon is questioned about the cucumber sandwiches he claims I

that became increasingly popular in Victorian England was the tradition of taking afternoon tea.

The fight for food amongst the two lead roles could symbolize their want for similar things that
may not be food, but it being the Victorian era they are not saying it out loudly but are expressing
their views in other matters. (Metaphorizing each situation). It is very pathetic of the characters as
they live in aristocracy and are expected not to have food problems; this also shows their lavish
greedy nature. Further it reflects on their insecure positions. Every time the scene of tea time is
portrayed, a conflict occurs. For example when Gwendolyn and Cecily come to know of their
marital status, conflict occurs over them being engaged to the same man.
The theme of honorable vengeance is seen when Cecily ignores Gwendolyn s requests about tea

displaying her anger and want for vengeance. This adds to the aforementioned point about how
style and expectations of society dictate every action and feeling by the characters.
Gwendolyn is characterized as someone who believes fashion comes before morals and everything
one does should be fashionable, no matter what their class is. Cake is rarely seen in the best houses

Relationship Between Catullus And Lesbia
Option 2: Catullus and Lesbia s Relationship
Introduction
Lesbia is the subject of Catullus s most passionate and seemingly sincere poems. The relationship
between Catullus and Lesbia is tumultuous to say the least. His poems about Lesbia and their
relationship display a wide range of emotions which change from a relationship of tenderness and
love, to one of uncertainty, to one of sorrow and disappointment. They rapidly fall in and out of
love with another. Their affections for one another are fickle and constantly changing. They have a
mercurial kind of love. Catullus obviously loved Lesbia deeply, but he also feels intense dislike,
disappointment and contempt towards her. Through it all, it seems as though Catullus longs for

He has succumbed to his weakness for her. Catullus describes his love and jealously as a sort of
illness, to see and hear Lesbia talking to another man ravishes his senses, causing his ears to
ring, his eyes to go black and fire to snake through his limbs. Catullus expresses his suffering in
physical terms. The symptoms he lists indicate an intense psychological state of anxiety He has
become jealous of a man who is interacting with her. He describes his feelings of agony when he
sees her. The relationship at this point is not reciprocal. Catullus describes how her presence
leaves him feeling weak and speechless. Once again he is besotted with her. Catullus describes
how dense darkness blinds him when he sees Lesbia. The darkness here may be the blind love
that many experience when they are madly in love with someone to the point that they cannot
see their faults. He also warns himself against leisure for he knows that brooding over her will
only lead to his demise. Otium is dangerous only so far as Catullus is concerned. It is not bad in
itself but because of the use to which Catullus puts it, he has gone beyond the proper bounds. He
uses his otium to think about Lesbia, but he goes too far and is brought to suffer. The exemplum of
lines 15 16 underscores this pain: otium has destroyed even kings and cities; it can destroy
Catullus, too. There is no humor

Working as a police officer is associated with a lot of stress and tension. Officers encounter
countless dangers on the job and have a lot of pressure put on them to fairly serve and protect
communities. All these aspects of police work shape police subculture and how officers use their
powers. Typically, police culture is associated with cynicism, social isolation, and secrecy. Police

Describe How Jesus Presented As A Worker Of Miracles
Explaining the Term Miracle
The word miracle comes from the Latin miraculum , which means, to marvel at, to
wonder. A miracle therefore is a happening which amazes us and arouses wonder.
When we say miracle we mean an event which is so mysterious that cannot be explained by
scientific methods; something that we believe cannot occur naturally. A miracleinvolves a breach or
violation of the laws of nature. Usually miracles are thought of as something that has a religious
significance. Christians believe that a miracle is a sign of the power of God.

Describe How Jesus was Presented as a Worker of Miracles, giving Examples from the gospels.
Jesus never, throughout his ministry, performed miracles for his personal gain. This is shown
particularly in the temptations in the desert [LK 4:1 13], where he was given the decision of
performing miracles to make himself powerful, famous, or happy.
When he first began to perform miracles he simple did so because of his love of man, and his
want to do good, not to prove who he was and reveal his identity as the Messiah. At that time he
actual tried to hide his real identity to the people, this was known as the messianic secret. There
are many examples of him performing miracles because of his want to do good, while trying to
hide his identity, for example; a number of cures [Lk 4: 4 41, the cure of the leper [Lk 5:12 16],
when he actually told the cured man not to tell of this miracle, and also the cure of the demoniac
[8:26 39], where he told the demon to be silent when it began telling people of Jesus identity.
Later on in his ministry he began to perform miracles in public. This I believe was not only
because he wanted to help the ill, the poor or possessed, but also to establish faith in people, or to
strengthen faith in his followers, and also to reward those with faith. Examples of these are; the
curing of the centurion s

The present study attempts to analyse the governing factors behind the delays in construction of
highway projects in India. Ahmedabad, largest city in the state of Gujarat and the adjoining
areas are considered for fetching the data required in the present work. Pre designed
questionnaire is prepared and used as a research tool for collecting information pertaining to
frequency of occurrence of non value adding activities in highway projects with respect to
construction practices. Seventy seven samples are being collected and the same are used here for
the analysis. Fuzzy Logic based Delay Prediction Models (FL DPM) are developed to predict the
delay in construction of highways for different levels of control over the three categories of
predictor variable i.e. Human Resource, Equipment and Material. The developed models are
observed to predict the delay in projects satisfactorily as validated by the collected responses. These
models find application in Indian infrastructure industry where a huge uncertainty prevails right
from the planning phase to the execution of the project. The findings here can facilitate
dissemination of research and practice of Lean Construction concept among stakeholders of the
Indian construction sector which is believed to mitigate various losses that accompanies the
conventional approaches, particularly in the execution of highway projects.

The Pros And Cons Of Facebook A Virtual Community
Nowadays, people connect each other by social media. Facebook, a virtual community, is one of
the most popular social websites. Most of the other websites allow users to create an account in
an expressway by logging their Facebook account. For example, Tinder requires daters to use
their Facebook account to create profiles instantly. Connecting to Facebook, the users are ready
to use Tinder. It makes a profile of photos and information gotten by his or her Facebook account.
Also, Facebook helps players to save games. Since the players started connecting Facebook during
playing games, it automatically records the information, scores, or the process of the game that has
been playing for a long time, so the players feel comfortable to play without worrying losing all the
data. However, is it a real community? Web sites and social mobile apps are popular and necessary
for people to connect over the world, so website designers and mobile programmers get high
salaries. Thus, we cannot deny that virtual communityis a real community because of three
advantages: supporting users to get what they need, providing the sense of stability, and accepting
us for who we are.
First of all, a virtual community becomes a real community by serving people s needs. Facebook

high value of error observed in these results must still be accounted for, as well as the
shortcoming of or results compared to those from the USDA. Firstly, it is possible that this
apparent lower value observed here may be a result of loss of sample in the transportation,

loss of sample from the anticipated 0.9343 g leading to lower amount of iron being analytically

Abstract
This paper will explore the role of labor unions within the Unites States. The effectiveness of Unions
and how they are important for the stability of the American economy. Unions provide many
benefits to employees due to the working relationship with management and politicians in the U.S
Congress. Some of the benefits that provided by unions are, paid vacations, pensions, an 8 hour
work day with breaks and social security benefits. Unions are continually fighting with politicians
and the State Government for better benefits. Will discuss the role of HRM s employee relations
within the organizations and what role the government should play.
Increased Role of U.S. Labor Unions In the United States unions have impacted the workforce by
creating better benefits for all works. Unions work to improve the working conditions in the
workplace by working with the organization to make sure they are following the labor laws of the
State and Federal Government. Labor unions date back to the eighteenth century and the industrial
revolution in Europe. (Union Plus, n.d.) Unions exploded in the United States around the
nineteenth century with the founding of the National Labor Union (NLU) in 1866. (Union Plus,

world, where a person has overdosed and died from marijuana alone. One could even say
marijuana heals more people than it actually kills. This is why marijuana should have never
been placed within a category of heroin which has ruin a countless number of lives. Keeping
marijuana illegal only will make things worse not any better. Children in low income families
and rundown neighborhoods look up to people dealing drugs more than hard working citizens.
They would rather follow the actions of the dealers than work a nine to five because of the glitz
and glamor that drug dealers possess. By legalizing and taking control over the marijuana
industry the black market for marijuana will begin to shrink. Violence and arrests for marijuana
would also begin to decline since there d no longer be a strong incentive to rob or kill over
something that could be purchased at the store. Most of the stigma of violence related to
marijuana comes from the lifestyle that comes with illegal drug dealing. Having an illegal market
for marijuana only makes the gangs and black market dealers better off. This is probably the
reason gangsters were originally for prohibition and even help enforce it against their competition.

Examples Of Deterioration In The Black Cat
Deterioration of Morals and Mind in The Black Cat In Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat, the
unnamed narrator recounts the way his life has fallen apart due to a series of terrifying incidents
he has with his pet cat, Pluto. As the story develops, his actions grow more grotesque and
immoral as he tries to rid himself of the animal. In one of these instances, a fire forces the narrator
to move from his well tended house to a smaller, run down building, which represents the
deterioration of his state of mind. In this way, Edgar Allan Poeuses elements of setting to suggest
that when people disregard their conscience, the resulting moral and mental decay will end in their
retribution. At the beginning of the story, the narrator resides in a well tended house, which acts as
a symbol for his fairly healthy state of mind. He describes his house as his entire worldly wealth
(139) and states that he has a servant,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is too late, and his conscience does not survive his worsened state of mind. Thus, the
inner workings of his mind, symbolized by the walls of his house, start to break down, which, in
turn, kill the conscience. Consequently, his conscience is burned into his mind as a faint
impression of guilt, symbolized by the bas relief on the single standing wall at the head of his bed.
Moreover, the use of eyes as a prop strengthens the connection of the cat and his conscience. It is a
common saying that eyes are windows to the soul, which becomes the reason why the narrator
gouges out Pluto s eye. He does not want his conscience to affect his soul, so he takes out one of
its eyes to prevent it from truly seeing his soul. Even though he feels slightly guilty after his violent
act, it was, at best, a feeble and equivocal feeling, and the soul remained untouched

A Knight s Code Of Chivalry
A knight s Code of Chivalry was a system of morals that they lived by. Knights were very
respected people because they lived by that code. A person s morals or personal code can reflect
a person s character. I realized mine throughout the time I spent taking care of my great
grandmother. My personal code is to always be generous, kind, and considerate. Kindness can
always go a long way. I try and live my life by treating others the way I would want to be treated.
It s not a bad thing to be considerate of other people and what they care about or their feelings. At
the beginning of my freshman year my great grandmother had a stroke while at home. This stroke
left her unable to walk, talk or eat on her own. After recovering in the hospital

Assess The Difference Between Conductive Reasoning And...
The first concepts I learned about in this chapter are the deductive and inductive reasoning. As
developing techniques such as both deductive and inductive reasoning is an important portion of
becoming a critical thinker. So what is deductive reasoning? Deductive reasoning is structured in
such a way as to give as to give us certainty about what it true in a given situation. The conclusions
certainty is established when deductive arguments contain true premises reasons stated in the
correct form (Diestler 2012). So basically, deductive reasoningis taking some set of data or facts
and using that to come up with other deducting facts. When using deductive reasoning its
sometimes knows as the top down approach which is sometimes used for research... Show more

Therefore, you start to think out of the box and having different opinions it can allow you to have
better decision making skills in choosing better life choices for yourselves. In the video that was
shown during the lecture about decision making named How To Make Better Decisions (https:/
/youtu.be/QW AUTh6WOY) a mathematician believes he can solve complex human problems by
using math. In decision making mathematics share the same language, in you have problems that
need to be solved. Therefore, you look at the factors that you re going away against each other so
solve the problem with using math. In the example is trying finding a suitable girlfriend using
numbers. The experiment was to see if the math could predict the volunteers which consist of the
four nerdy science guys could get numbers from girls from a bar setting. The conclusion the
volunteers were a success. Also, something that was discovered was with this simply analyzing
the decision before hand seem to have given the guys more confidence to approach and talk to
girls at the bar. The only person who was not successful was one of the guys Levi who reject the
magic numbers and failed at the experiment in this performance. I don t always think that math can
always be used, but you can if you want to make a logical decision then you make choose math to
help you with the decision making. One thing that can helps me in making better decisions is

Joseph Smith Beliefs
History books have called Joseph Smith an American religious leader who founded the modern
day Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). This religious institution is based on
Smiths visions and the followers of the LDS church are called Mormon s. His vision was for the
restoration of the early Christian church and a new way of life to live by. While Smith visions
and ethics have been controversial at times, millions still follow his teachings and the religious
culture he started in 1830. Today the Mormon Church has over 15 million followers and has
grown to touch many parts of the world with its 83 thousand missionaries. (A Prophet) Visionary

This was because of the controversial views from the main stream Christian beliefs at the time
and lack of diversity in the era of early religion in America. According to Thomas N. Barnes
Center (2012a) the diversity Smith faced caused an ethical dilemma on which way to handle
this situation. Instead of giving to the main stream religion of the era, Smith moved his new
church and followers west to so they could continue to follow what they believed and the vision
Smith had instilled in them. (p. LM01SG 5) However, ultimately in 1844 Joseph Smith was
jailed in Illinois because of his teachings and beliefs and was shot to death during a jail mob.
Joseph Smith Jr. was only 38 years old at the time of his death, but his teachings and beliefs of
the Mormon Church still endure today. (Joseph Smith). His vision has been controversial at times,
but none the less, millions still follow his vision and the religious culture which Smith started
continues to endure and grow in this present day all over the world. Ethical Leader Ultimately
Joseph Smith Jr. was murdered because the main stream Christians in the 1800 s did not believe
his values and beliefs were ethical. However, even though his teachings and beliefs were
considered taboo to some then, they have endured to become and build one the largest church s in
the world today. (Joseph Smith) Joseph Smith was ethical because his beliefs and

Pansette As An Accomplice In The Case Of Martin Guerre
In Natalie Z. Davis reconstruction of Martin Guerre s famous case of identity theft, Guerre s eight
year absence allowed for Pansette to authentically impersonate him for three years. . However,
following his dispute with his uncle, Pierre Guerre, over the family inheritance, Pansette was
accused of being an impostor, ultimately leading to his execution. Concluding the case, the court
declared Bertrande and the Guerre familyvictims in the trial. Unlike the participants of the case,
Davis does not conform to the idea of Bertrande as a mere victim, but rather, an accomplice
motivated by socioeconomic status. Critics often question whether Davis interpretations trespass
the boundaries of a historian. Yet, in order to evaluate Davis as a historian,... Show more content on

The key passage for critics explicitly states Davis beliefs of Bertrande as an accomplice, But the
obstinate and honorable Bertrande does not seem a woman so easily fooled, not even by a
charmer like Pansette. By the time she had received him in her bed, she must have realized the
difference; as any wife of Artigat would have agreed, there is no mistaking the touch of the man on
the woman. Either by explicit or tacit agreement, she helped him become her husband (Davis, 44).
The main argument is that Davis assumptions fail to take into account the ages of Bertrande and
Martin during their marriage, as well as Bertrande s long abstinence as a possible reason for her
memory failure. Yet, Davis arguments are far from imaginative, in fact, they are derived from the
the thoughts of the French peasantry, including those of Judge Coras himself, She had shared her
bed with the prisoner for more than three years, during which long interval it is not likely that the
said de Rols would not have recognized him for a stranger... (Davis, 79). Contrary to the arguments
of critics, Davis does not fail to demonstrate historical proof for her assumptions, as it is important
for history to take into account the psychology of the

ENERGY IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Abstract
This report discusses the role of energy in sustainable development goals. The report highlights on
the target set by the United Nations and the time frame given to achieve these targets. Some of the
challenges hindering sustainable development especially in the poor sections of the population and
measures needed to be taken have also been identified. It concludes with the primary principles and
basic practices needed to be taken in order to achieve the sustainable development goals.
Introduction
Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland report,
1987). This really emphasizes on the needs and the idea of limitations often related to the world
s poor on how to bridge the gap of needs and the environment (including climate) now and the
future. Basically, it elaborates on the equality of the life between the rich and the poor (that is,
how the poor can be on par with the rich) in terms of standard of living. Also, it draws attention to
the use of green technologies in order to build a better and brighter future. I believe this cannot be
achieved easily, therefore the possibility of achieving this can be very low, but with strong
initiatives and plans, the bridge can be narrowed. An effective tool for this can

The Historical Context of The Bhagavad Gita and Its Relation to Indian Religious Doctrines
The Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the most famous, and definitely the most widely read, ethical text of
ancient India. As an episode in India s great epic, the Mahabharata, The Bhagavad Gita now ranks
as one of the three principal texts that define and capture the essence of Hinduism; the other two
being the Upanishads and the Brahma Sutras. Though this work contains much theology, its kernel
is ethical and its teaching is set in the context of an ethical problem. The teaching of The Bhagavad
Gita is summed up in the maxim your business is with the deed and not with the result. When

The conflict between the Pandavas and the Kauravas brewed gradually when the Kauravas
refused to return the kingdom to the Panadavas and honor the agreement after the fourteen year
exile, and escalated to a full scale war when the Kauravas refused to even grant Yudhisthir s
reduced demand for a few villages instead of the entire kingdom. As the battle is about to begin,
Arjuna, himself an acclaimed warrior, wonders how he could kill his own blood relatives with
whom he had grown up as a child. He puts the battle on hold and begins a conversation with Krishna
, one of the ten but most important incarnations of the Universal Hindu God, Vishnu. The
Bhagavad Gita begins here and ends with Krishna convincing Arjuna that in the grand scheme of
things, he is only a pawn. The best he could do is do his duty and not question God s will. It was
his duty to fight. In convincing Arjuna, the Lord Krishna provides a philosophy of life and restores
Arjuna s nerve to begin the battle a battle that had been stalled because the protagonist had lost his
nerve and needed time to reexamine his moral values.
Even though The Bhagavad Gita (hereafter referred to as the Gita) is one of the three principal
texts that define the essence of Hinduism, and since all over the world Hindus chant from the Gita
during most of their religious ceremonies, strictly speaking the Gita is not one of the Hindu
scriptures. In light

The Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Essay
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the
United States among teens and young adults (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2015). HPV is known to attack epithelial cells and as many as 75% to 80% of males and females
can become infected in their lifetime (Merck Sharp Dohme Corp., 2012). There are many
different strains some of which cause no symptoms and others that can cause genital warts, as well
as various types of oropharyngeal and/or anogenital cancers. There are currently three vaccines
licensed by the FDA since 2006 Cervarix, Gardasil, and Gardasil 9. These vaccines are a 3 dose
series recommended for routine use among girls and boys at ages 11 and 12, and ages 13 26 for
those who have not previously been infected. Although these vaccines do not protect against all
HPV strains, they do protect against the two most common high risk (cancer causing) strains
types 16 and 18. In addition to preventing types 16 and 18, the Gardasil vaccine protects against
the two most common low risk (genital warts causing) strains and the Gardasil 9 vaccine protects
against five additional cancer causing strains, as well as the other strains previously mentioned.
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015)The purpose of the Bauldur Felskov et al
(2014) study was to assess the efficacy of the HPV vaccineagainst cervical lesions by comparing the
incidence trends before and after the vaccination program was first implemented.

Taking a Brief Look at the Work of Carlos Ghosn
When Carlos Ghosn becoming the new CEO, the managers and employees was not happy about it
because they don t know what is his intentions. He whom was known as the Le Cost Killer did not
even blink an eye when changing the current organizational culture and the internal processes of
Nissan. The main reason of the resistance in Nissan was because of Ghosn s Brazilian ethnicity
and also his Lebanese heritage and the difference in culture way of approaching the problems are
really different from the people of Japan. Everyone knows that the Japanese managementculture is
the masculine(manly) type with large power distance and that the Japanese peopleare really
obedient towards the higher ups (Hofstede). Carlos whom previously had shown a proactive
management type of style at Renault where he managed to improve the cost efficiencies and
because of his good management record, he was being headhunted to become the CEO of Nissan.
In a country like Japan, one usually assume that the new CEO should be someone who knows the
local culture and customs of Japan but in this case however Carlos was probably aware of the fact
that regardless of his shortage of knowledge about the culture itself, he had an advantage for having
worked on four different countries with different cultures and was able to overcome the cultural
differences.
Back in 1991, Nissan was capable of producing good quality cars but the company itself had
ignored the customers needs of stylish and innovative cars .

The Tragic Hero Of Shakespeare s Hamlet
[insert introduction here] Macbeth and Hamlet are both tragic heroes whose fall from greatness
disturbs the order of their kingdoms.
A tragic hero is a character, one of high esteem, whose internal imperfection leads to their downfall.
Both Macbeth and Hamlet are well known and of high social class when an unexpected calamity
hits. Hamlet, the son of the king of Denmark, is a charismatic prince most immediate to [the]
throne (Shakespeare, Ham I.ii.109). It can be inferred that he lives a rather extravagant and
convenient lifestyle. That is, until his father dies and his uncle takes both the throne and Hamlet s
mother as wife. From Hamlet s perspective this is a calamity for two reasons: Hamlet was heir to
the throne, and his mother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His reaction upon learning this fate is twofold: Macbeth can wait patiently for legitimate royalty, or
he can give into his black and deep desires, and steal the throne from Duncan (X). Hamlet s fate, on
the other hand, is to set right the murder of his father(x). It both cases, neither of the characters fates
are what killed them, but rather their tragic flaws. While Macbeth ultimately succumbs to his
unchecked ambition and rashly murders any potential and unlikely threat to the throne, Hamlet
procrastinates and fails to fulfill his revenge in a timely, simplistic manner. Because of his
uncontrolled ambition, Macbeth blindly trusts the witches who promise inviolable royalty, murders
his closest friend, and kills the family of his nemesis. Hamlet, on the other hand, weary of the
legitimacy of the supernatural, puts on an antic disposition and delays his revenge as he searches
for confirmation of the ghost s accusations (x). Hamlet s procrastination causes him to miss
multiple opportunities at revenge. For example, he chooses not to kill a vulnerable, praying
Claudius (x). In this way, Macbeth and Hamlet fall victim to their own actions. Had Macbeth been
satisfied with just his throne, he would not have risen any suspicion amongst the others. Similarly,
had Hamlet acted in a timely manner and killed Claudius the moment he was made aware of his

  • 2. Common Core Standards Literature Review Literature Review What is the common core? The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) defines the knowledge and skills in English language arts and mathematics that students need for success in college and careers upon high school graduation (Santos, Darling Hammond, Cheuk (2012)). The common core was created, to provide clear academic benchmarks with more concise academic standards for essential learning that will prepare students to be college and career ready (Liebtag, E. (2013)). The common core standards have then, been introduced and applied to most schools in the U.S, and although it may have its controversies, the major issue, is its effect on ELL (English Language Learners) students. ELs currently constitute 10 percent of the U.S.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Duguay, A., Massoud, L., Tabaku, L., Himmel, J., Sugarman, J. (2013, September), As educators have examined the standards more deeply, concerns have arisen about their implementation in classrooms with diverse groups of students, including English learners . Not only this, but the concept of math also has its visible adversities. According to Robertson, K. (2009), Although it is easy to assume that many English language learners (ELLs) will excel in math because math is a universal language and students may have had prior educational experience that included mathematical instruction, that assumption can lead educators astray . Many teachers are struggling with the, increasingly rigorous grade level content instruction; by content area teachers, many of whom are newly incorporating language development techniques in their subject area classes (Duguay, A., Massoud, L., Tabaku, L., Himmel, J., Sugarman, J. (2013, September)). The common core may be the stepping for detailed curriculum, but it is seeming that, it cannot be tailored to all of the diverse populations of our nation (Liebtag, E. (2013)). The expectations of the common core exacerbate the academics for ELL students. According to, HAKUTA, K., SANTOS, M., FANG, Z. (2013), when ELs are isolated for direct language instruction, ... ISBN: 978 981 07 6260 5 doi:10.3850/ 978 981 07 6260 5_25 FPGA BASED SINGLE PHASE MULTILEVEL INVERTER Ms. Anuja Murar Nazare Student M Tech (Digital Systems ) Rajarambapu Institute of Technology, Rajaramnagar 415416 Email ID:anu.333.me@gmail.com Abstract The application of Field programmable Gate Array(FPGA) in the development of electronics circuit control scheme has drawn much attention lately due to its shorter design cycle, lower cost and higher density. This paper presents an FPGA based gate signal generator for single phase multilevel inverter employing an sinusoidal PWM switching strategy to control its output voltage. The XILINX FPGA based single phase multilevel PWM inverter was constructed by adding a bi directional switches to the conventional bridge topology. The inverter can produce three and five different output voltage levels across the load. FPGA is chosen for the hardware implementation of switching strategy mainly due to its high computation speed that can ensure the accuracy of the instants that gating signals are generated. VHDL language is used to model the inverter switching strategies The PWM pulses was downloaded in FPGA(XC3S400PQ208) from Spartan 3. In addition to FPGA, Xilinx/modelsim software was used for simulation and verification of the proposed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Operating under a human capital ideology education in the U.S. is a means to provide education to individuals in an effort for continued economic advancement for our nation. However, as times change educationfails to completely change with it. Secondary educationis no longer seen as a means to earning financial stability. Primary education encompasses complexity of issues that still remain to be addressed wholly. With the creation of the U.S. Constitution states are given power to construct education. Educational reform continues to be complex with ever changing politicians and platforms failing to have the time to create long lasting systematic changes but also not fully grasp educational challenges collectively. Educational reform such as Elementary Secondary Education Act of 1965 and its versions No Child Left Behind Act and Every Child Succeeds Act 2015 has changed the way students learn and teachers teach. The need for continued educational innovations is of the utmost importance. We as a society continue to strive for creating organizational policies and pedagogies that not only enhance research but a allow for a greater society understanding and applicability to enhance education for millions. He was always getting bullied at school. He had no friends. Until one day, a boy who had a small body for his age had an ornithopter (an aircraft that flaps its wings) that was stuck in a tree. Maxwell got the ornithopter from the tree and returned it to the little boy. He introduced himself as Kevin but Maxwell thought of calling him Freak instead, because of his intellectual brain. Every night, he would tie up Max s hands and legs. He would also put tape over Max s mouth to avoid him from screaming. Max had to go through a lot of pain. Whenever Killer Kane would ask Max a question about trusting him, Max had to always answer with a yes, because he was too scared to say no. Max had to go through so much trouble with his father. One night, Max s father left Max tied up because he had to meet Iggy who was his best friend. Loretta came to the rescue and untied Max and told him that Iggy is distracting Killer Kane so Max can escape. Out of nowhere, Killer Kane tried to choke Loretta to the death, but then Max screamed out that he saw him kill his mother the same way he was trying to kill Loretta. Killer Kane was angry so he grabbed Max by the collar and pushed him away. Freak came to the rescue with a gun that had sulfuric acid and squirted it out at Killer Kane. • 6. A Trip To The Railway Essay So they all sat down on a great flat grey stone that had pushed itself up out of the grass; it was one of many that lay about on the hillside, and when Mother came out to look for them at eight o clock, she found them deeply asleep in a contented, sun warmed bunch. They had made an excellent fire, and had set the kettle on it at about half past five. So that by eight the fire had been out for some time, the water had all boiled away, and the bottom was burned out of the kettle. Also they had not thought of washing the crockery before they set the table. But it doesn t matter the cups and saucers, I mean, said Mother. That thought was double, and consisted, like the bits of information in the Child s Guide to Knowledge, of a question and an answer. Q. Where shall we go? A. To the railway. So to the railway they went, and as soon as they started for the railway they saw where the garden had hidden itself. It was right behind the stables, and it had a high wall all round. Oh, never mind about the garden now! cried Peter. Mother told me this morning where it was. It ll keep till tomorrow. Let s get to the railway. The way to the railway was all down hill over smooth, short turf with here and there furze bushes and grey and yellow rocks sticking out like candied peel from the top of a cake. The way ended in a steep run and a wooden fence and there was the railway with the shining metals and the telegraph wires and posts and signals. They all climbed on to the top of the fence, and then suddenly there was a rumbling sound that made them look along the line to the right, where the dark mouth of a tunnel opened itself in the face of a rocky cliff; next moment a train had rushed out of the tunnel with a shriek and a snort, and had slid noisily past them. They felt the rush of its passing, and the pebbles on the line jumped and rattled under it as it went by. Oh! said Roberta, drawing a long breath; it was like a great dragon tearing by. • 8. African Americans In The Help By Kathryn Stockett One of the most inspirational and well known activists for blacks none as Rosa Parks once said I have never been what you would call just an integrationist. I know I ve been called that... Integrating that bus wouldn t mean more equality. Even when there was segregation, there was plenty of integration in the South, but it was for the benefit and convenience of the white person, not us ( Parks ). This quote is from a time when the color of peoples skin was more important than who the people really were and a time where most blacks were treated terribly, the 1960s. For years, many authors have tried to write books that captured just how poorly African Americans were treated. The Help by Kathryn Stockett is one of the few books written by a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The entire book was written to show the relationship between black maids and their white bosses. Racism is shown throughout the entire book from many different people. One example of racism is when a worker knocks on the door of a white woman s house to ask for water and where to go to the bathroom. The door was answered by a black maid named Minny but the fear in his voice is obvious when he says Beg a pardon, he say, but where... He stand there a minute, look down at his feet. Where might I go to make water? (Stocket 23) Something as simple as using the bathroom was a big problem for black workers because they knew if a white person were to catch them, they would be punished. Just because of the color of their skin, black people were treated poorly and could not even use the same bathroom. Another example of racism and discrimination is when a white woman, Miss Hilly tells everyone that Minny is a stealing maid who cannot be trusted. Because it is the words of a white woman against a black, everyone turns their back on Minny and she struggles to find a job. This is shown when Minny says She telling everbody in town I m stealing! That s why I can t get no work! That witch done turned me into the Smart Mouthed Criminal Maid a Hinds County (24). Whites had so much control over the African Americans that if they did not like someone, they could say anything and be believed. Both racism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Character Changes In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter Imagine if you were in a happy relationship and then you got slaughtered by a frozen lamb leg. Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl is a story about a husband and wife, and their relationship. Throughout the story, Mary and Patrick go through many changes. In Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl, Mary undergoes many character changes, mainly motivated by Patrick leaving her, Patrick s death, and covering up her crime. Mary starts off the story very happy. She has the picture perfect life, as She loved him for the way he sat loosely in a chair, for the way he came in a door, or moved slowly across the room with long strides. She loved intent, far look in his eyes when they rested in her, the funny shape of the mouth, and especially the way he remained silent about his tiredness, sitting still with himself until the whiskey had taken some of it away (Dahl 1). Mary loves her husbandso much, she thinks that everything is perfect, she has the perfect husband and the perfect baby on the way. Everything is perfect until Patrick says, I ve got something to tell you (Dahl 2). Patrick tells Mary that he is leaving her, he will give her money and make sure she and the baby were taken care of, but he is leaving. Mary is not happy, Her first instinct was not to believe any of it, to reject it all. It occurred to her that perhaps he hadn t even spoken, that she herself had imagined the whole thing (Dahl 2). Mary is devastated, her life is falling apart and she is trying to keep it all together. This is where we see a big change in Mary. She goes to get meat for supper, when she returns Patrick says, For God s sake, he said, hearing her, but not turning round. Don t make supper for me. I m going out. At that point, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head (Dahl 2). Mary has been pushed over the edge here, she was so frustrated and betrayed that she reacted rashly. Her character just completely shifted. She was so happy with the perfect life, now she doesn t have a husband and she s a murderer. She has to think about what is going to happen next As the wifeof a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Descriptive Essay About Mangonada Margaritas Mangonada Margaritas Mangonada Margaritas. Yep, you read that right! All of the flavors of a mangonada blended into a classic frozen margarita. If you aren t familiar with a mangonada it is a Mexican frozen mango drink made with lime juice, chili lime seasoning, and chamoy sauce. So I incorporated those same ingredients in my margarita! It s sweet, with a little bit of heat, and some tequila to wake things up a bit. I love chamoy sauce, but if you ve ever read the label on the back of the bottle you will see ingredients that I do not particularly care to consume. So I decided to make my own organic chamoy sauce in order to make my Mangonada Margaritas. And it was a total success! To make my homemade chamoy sauce I used HEB s recipe. I adapted ... It experienced a terrible fate as it collapsed only four months after final construction. During its short existence only vertical vibrations of the bridge were noticed, and the bridge became famously known as Galloping Gertie due to the swaying of the roadway under high wind conditions. A positive correlation was observed between the wind s speeds and the bridges vibrations in certain tests, yet contradictory results are also in existence which prove no correlation between the two. However, in an attempt to make the bridge more cost effective, it was built with an unusual design for a suspension bridge an extremely thin frame of only thirty nine feet. This created sufficient space for only two lanes on the roadway. Originally, the bridge was supposed to be made more sturdy through the addition of trusses, yet there were inadequate funds. As a result, a cheaper alternative 8 foot girders were added on. They were included on the entire expanse of the bridge. • 15. The Beauty And Richness Of Autumn By John Keats At one time or another, every person has experienced the beauty of summer. In this time of the year, nature is full of life, the weather is at its finest, and the paramount joys of life can be experienced to their fullest. Then the fall comes, the trees turn lovely shades of red and yellow, and the wind offers a nice chill breeze for relief. Unfortunately, seasons change and the beauty that people once experienced vanishes. People focusing only on the material and petty aspects of life, rather than the beauty around them, will let life pass them, missing out on the true wonders of the world. In his poem To Autumn, John Keatsutilizes imagery to express the importance of indulging in the beauties of nature, while alive, because humans are mortal beings bound by the limits of time. Throughout the beginning of the poem, Keats touches on the beauty and richness of autumn. He accomplishes this by introducing distinct fall imagery. For example, Keats writes in lines 5 and 6, To bend with apples the moss d cottage trees; And fill all fruit with the ripeness of to the cores (414). Having the trees branches being bent by the weight of the apples and the fruit being ripe to its core, the narrator points to the plumpness and maturity of the fruit. • 17. Archetypal Theory In Pygmalion Ever since we were little children we have been able to see the world around us. We noticed that there are colors and images but we never truly knew what they meant. Then, we were brought into school where we were then taught what color is what color and how there are two types of colors: light and dark. We were taught that the light colors usually mean happiness while the darker colors represent sadness. Colors and images are how the idea of Archetypal Theory came to be, helping us discover a deeper meaning within the text. After watching the movies My Fair Lady, Princess and The Frog, and reading the book Pygmalion, I was able to discover how colors and images help us better understand the character s journeys from rags to riches. At the beginning of all three of these stories the characters start out as some nobodies, but then through the archetypal theory thrown into these pieces so we see how they transform into becoming happy and wealthy people near the end of the stories. At the beginning of all three of these stories, colors help us understand who the characters really are. For all of these pieces we are able to see how dirty and poor both Eliza and Tiana are starting off as. In Pygmalion, Eliza is described as having a brown skirt with a coarse apron. Her boots are much the worse for wear. She is no doubt as clean as she can afford to be (Shaw 1. 13). If we dig deeper into the meaning of this quotation we can see what these colors truly mean. The theme of honorable vengeance is seen when Cecily ignores Gwendolyn s requests about tea and bread and butter. Catullus expresses his suffering in physical terms. The symptoms he lists indicate an intense psychological state of anxiety He has become jealous of a man who is interacting with her. He describes his feelings of agony when he sees her. The relationship at this point is not reciprocal. Catullus describes how her presence leaves him feeling weak and speechless. Once again he is besotted with her. Catullus describes how dense darkness blinds him when he sees Lesbia. The darkness here may be the blind love that many experience when they are madly in love with someone to the point that they cannot see their faults. He also warns himself against leisure for he knows that brooding over her will only lead to his demise. Otium is dangerous only so far as Catullus is concerned. It is not bad in itself but because of the use to which Catullus puts it, he has gone beyond the proper bounds. He uses his otium to think about Lesbia, but he goes too far and is brought to suffer. Firstly, it is possible that this apparent lower value observed here may be a result of loss of sample in the transportation, measuring, and funneling of the ash across multiple measuring devices, which may cause some loss of sample from the anticipated 0.9343 g leading to lower amount of iron being analytically measured. Additionally, the filtering step of the procedure was somewhat of a challenge considering that elution was a very slow process that required series of washes using the 15 mL of HCl. These washes needed to be quick since we had a limited amount of time to complete these experiments, and so it is possible that some sample may have been lost in the interest of completing the experiment in time. Simple methods to resolve these issues would be to repeat the experiment with an adequate amount of time, as well as a more controlled environment where sample loss may be minimized, perhaps a fume hood. • 41. Examples Of Deterioration In The Black Cat Deterioration of Morals and Mind in The Black Cat In Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat, the unnamed narrator recounts the way his life has fallen apart due to a series of terrifying incidents he has with his pet cat, Pluto. As the story develops, his actions grow more grotesque and immoral as he tries to rid himself of the animal. In one of these instances, a fire forces the narrator to move from his well tended house to a smaller, run down building, which represents the deterioration of his state of mind. In this way, Edgar Allan Poeuses elements of setting to suggest that when people disregard their conscience, the resulting moral and mental decay will end in their retribution. Moreover, the use of eyes as a prop strengthens the connection of the cat and his conscience. It is a common saying that eyes are windows to the soul, which becomes the reason why the narrator gouges out Pluto s eye. ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT ENERGY IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS Abstract This report discusses the role of energy in sustainable development goals. The report highlights on the target set by the United Nations and the time frame given to achieve these targets. Some of the challenges hindering sustainable development especially in the poor sections of the population and measures needed to be taken have also been identified. It concludes with the primary principles and basic practices needed to be taken in order to achieve the sustainable development goals. Introduction Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland report, 1987). This really emphasizes on the needs and the idea of limitations often related to the world s poor on how to bridge the gap of needs and the environment (including climate) now and the future. Basically, it elaborates on the equality of the life between the rich and the poor (that is, how the poor can be on par with the rich) in terms of standard of living. Also, it draws attention to the use of green technologies in order to build a better and brighter future. Though this work contains much theology, its kernel is ethical and its teaching is set in the context of an ethical problem. As the battle is about to begin, Arjuna, himself an acclaimed warrior, wonders how he could kill his own blood relatives with whom he had grown up as a child. He puts the battle on hold and begins a conversation with Krishna , one of the ten but most important incarnations of the Universal Hindu God, Vishnu. The Bhagavad Gita begins here and ends with Krishna convincing Arjuna that in the grand scheme of things, he is only a pawn. The best he could do is do his duty and not question God s will. It was his duty to fight. In convincing Arjuna, the Lord Krishna provides a philosophy of life and restores Arjuna s nerve to begin the battle a battle that had been stalled because the protagonist had lost his nerve and needed time to reexamine his moral values. Similarly, had Hamlet acted in a timely manner and killed Claudius the moment he was made aware of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
