Tedtalk s The Illusion Of Consciousness
Nowhere and Nothing
Many people are afraid of Emptiness, however, because it reminds them of Loneliness. Everything
has to be filled in, it seems appointment books, hillsides, vacant lots but when all the spaces are
filled, the Loneliness really begins. (p.147)
By pointing out the paradox where the pursuit of fullness results in emptiness, it forces the audience
to examine situations from their own experience, specifically failures and check whether they have
been going the wrong direction the whole time. It further blurs the boundaries between black and
white, not only does grayscale constitute the majority of our reality, but one is also within another,
they are interconnected and complementary. Resulting in, not coincidentally, the... Show more

At first I tried to define it, my plan was to create a religion, synthesizing the belief that such and
such is supposed to be perfect. After concluding that I needed a universal definition of perfection,
this idea was soon abandoned for being too narrow and I went on the search for a way to
eliminate human influence, thus rendering it objective and is therefore perfect as a matter of fact.
Ultimately realizing that perfection is a human construct and isolating it from humanity would
leave me with nothing, perfection would cease to exist. When I finally accepted the impossible
nature of an objective perfection, creating it became straightforward. A lie must be constructed in
order to make it exist, and when the impossible perfection comes to existence, thankfully as
humans are not omniscient, the lie can be covered up. I have tried to completely ignore the nature
of perfection, making my own rules, and that idea collapsed quickly. By giving in a little and
learning about how the concept of perfection came to be, I decided to alter it, bend it to my need
but inevitably, I was unsuccessful. Only when I went along with its nature without meddlesome,
combative, or egotistical effort (p.68), was I able to attain the otherwise impossible

The Higher Price of Higher Education
The High Price of Higher Education In America s society today, students are expected to follow
the path of day care, grade school, middle school, high school and hopefully college. Growing up in
America today, the importance of education is stressed starting at the earliest stages of
development. In a world with a competitive job market and with citizens who want to make the
most money that they can, a college education is key in success. For some students, financing
college is not a problem. Money should not be a factor in the student s decision making process
when choosing what school to attend, but unfortunately many people are unable to attend the
universityof their choice due to the high costs. Working through college is not... Show more content

If this is the case then there should be documentation of these increases but, academic institutions
have made little effort either on or off campus to make themselves transparent to explain their
finances, (Tuition Rising). There is no documentation that describes what every penny of tuition
pays for. It is only stated that it goes toward administrative costs, faculty salaries, technology,
Federal regulation, endowment, State appropriations, (Tuition Rising). But why are the costs
rising? Patrick M. Callan, president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education,
states that there s not much going on in either private or public higher education that is very serious
about cost control, (Tuition Rising). He believes that Underlying all this is that more kids are
graduating from high school every year, most of them want to go to college, and so it s a seller s
market. Universities raise tuition because they can, (Tuition Rising). This makes us wonder if
universities are tricking us of our money since they have not documented where tuition is going. In
order to avoid confusion from students and parents who want answers, the government should
require institutions to have documentation of what tuition is funding.
Financial aid is a popular choice for students to fund their college education, which presently costs
an average of $15,566 for an undergraduate student

Henry David Thoreau and Martin Luther King, Jr. s Justification of Defying Unjust Laws
In his famous essay, Letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King, Jr. cites conscience as a
guide to obeying just laws and defying unjust laws. In the same way, Henry David Thoreau wrote
in his famous essay, Civil Disobedience, that people should do what their conscience tells them
and not obey unjust laws. The positions of the two writers are very close; they use a common
theme of conscience, and they use a similar rhetorical appeal of ethos. In Civil Disobedience
Thoreau claims that men should act from their conscience. Thoreau believed it was the duty of a
person to disobey the law if his conscience says that the law is unjust. He ... Show more content on

He disagreed with other American people who believed the majority should change the law first
because it is a worse thing to disobey the law than to do what an unjust law says to do. Thoreau
wrote that breaking the unjust laws is better: Break the law. Let your life be a counter friction to
stop the machine (Thoreau, P. 18). However, Thoreau did not think people should be criminals.
He thinks a criminal is a person who disobeys the law but will not be responsible for that. If a
person disobeys an unjust law, Thoreau thinks that the person must do that, so all people can see he
is disobeying the law because it is unjust. Then the person must accept what happens to him for
disobeying the law.
Thoreau wrote that people must be willing to go to jail if they want to change a law by
disobeying the law. Thoreau went to jail instead of paying for his taxes because he believed the
government used the money for unjust things. This is how Henry Thoreau thinks people can
change unjust laws. He thought that if people willingly would to go to jail and quit their jobs,
then the revolution will take a place and reform will come. Thoreau was willing to go to jail to
change unjust laws because of his conscience.
King s position on unjust laws was very close to Thoreau s position on unjust laws. In his famous
letter written when he was in jail, Letter from Birmingham Jail, King wrote to the ministers who
did not like his protests to desegregate the city of

The Role Of Sexuality In African American Literature
Last semester s Honors English lecture was on Sexual Identities in African American Literature.
However, the topics often broadened to other areas, one of the most recurring being that of female
sexuality and whether literature depicted it as pure and nearly asexual or tainted and virulent. I
think this topic is a pressing issue in today s culture; many states are fine tuning abortion, rape, and
gender identification laws as I write this. I also saw much attention being paid to this topic in two
of the novels we read this semester: Mary Wollstonecrafts The Wrongs of Woman, or Maria, and
Mary Robinson s The Natural Daughter. However, I found the relationship between female
sexuality and its relation to the concepts of sensibility or rationality... Show more content on

He tried many times to persuade her to stay and be financially cared for by him, but Martha
refused to give any credit to the reputation that followed her everywhere; she would never
pretend to be anyone but whom she actually was and therefore put her sexuality on hold. She
loved Lord Francis, but Mr. Morley was her husband (268). Even when her sister Julia becomes
Mr. Morley s mistress, Martha will not, in the smallest instance, violate the proprieties of
wedded life (278). It is not until two events occurred that Martha was willing to allow her
sexuality to become primary: one, her husband dies with full knowledge that he was wrong
about Martha and had ruined her for nothing, and two, Martha learns that Lord Francis is not
Fanny s deceiving father, but the child s uncle, brother to Fanny s biological mother (293 5). As
speedily as the decencies of life would permit, Lord Francis solicited and received the hand of
Mrs. Morley (296). For the character of Martha, rationality and forthrightness far outweigh the
sensibility of and desire to act on her sexuality. She denies herself a relationship with the man she
loves for years because of the vows she made to her husband. She would rather experience the
pain of loneliness and self denial than be left with personal guilt and shame for breaking the vows

The Olympian Oscar Pistorius’s Fame
The twenty seven year old amputee Olympian, Oscar Pistorius accused of murder.Involving his late
model and law grad girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on the night of Valentines day last year.Through his
murder trial Mr.Pistorius has proven through his statements to be an overprotective person in
certain situations.Mr.Pistorius to have an unstable mind, and last still fearful of the situation at hand.
Oscar Pistoriusis obviously guilty of harming this innocent victim and her family. Mr.Pistorius has
a troubling past when it comes to crime, if it wasn t facing charges in court, it was witnessing and
hearing stories of crime being done to his family. Pistorius picked up the habit of keeping a gun
under his bed, due to his mother. So at the night of the murderhe believed it was intruder he had
this to say: I was was too scared to switch a light on. I grabbed my 9 mm pistol from underneath
my bed (Westfall,2014,para,3).Pistorius must have been waiting on a moment like this and didn t
know how to handle himself when the results of the aftermath shed a new light. In a statement in
court , Mr.Pistorius view of crime is to be mindful of crime, cautious when it comes to intruders ,
and to be offensive when coming across a threat(Lyall,2014,para.9). During the night of the murder
Mr. Oscar Pistorius s paranoia obviously worked against him in the night of the incident. The

Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale
Margaret Atwood is the author of both Lady Oracle and The Handmaid s Tale. Both of these
novels follow the conventions of the oppression of women. Lady Oracle is the narrative in
which Joan Foster, the first person narrator, tells the story of her life. Spanning the time period
of the early 1940s through 1970s, Joan s story describes her growing up in Toronto, becoming an
author of gothic romances, marrying and faking her suicide to escape the complicated turmoil of
her life. The Handmaid s Tale takes place in a city what used to be in the United States, now
called the Republic of Gilead. In this alternative future state, the democratic government has been
overthrown and replaced by an authoritarian one. In this book, the narrator, Offred, acts as the
reader s eyes and ears. People who have read this novel see Gilead as she sees it; they interpret it
as she interprets it; and their only knowledge of it comes from the information she gives to them.
Margaret Atwoods The Handmaid s Tale and Lady Oracle both portray the theme of the roles of
women in society. This will be discussed by analyzing and contrasting the conflicts that Offred and
Joan are faced with, and how they react to these conflicts. Each of these novels, The Handmaid s
Tale and Lady Oracle, have a main character that deals with sexism and oppression. Although they
both deal with the expectations of women from their society, both of their situations are different
and they choose to handle them in dissimilar

Downsizing Healthcare
Downsizing Medical Care in the United States
Mary Carnahan
HA 303: Public Policy in Health Care
August 5, 2015
Introduction For one reason or another hospitals are closing their doors. In this paper we will look
at how the downsizing of hospitals is affecting medical care in the United States. Why have some
of these hospitals closed?
High Point Community Hospital Closing I personally haven t seen or heard of any hospitals
closing down in my area recently but I do remember back in 1985 High Point Community
Hospital, now High Point Regional (since 1996) closed their doors only to move next door to the
new hospital which offered 351 private beds, in 1985 the hospital had only had 100 private beds.
A little side note, my oldest son one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my community High Point Regional went from a hospital with room for 12 patients and
employed four nurses and a housekeeper. The cost of a week s hospitalization was between $10
and $15 (High Point Regional 2015), in 1904 to 351 private beds for medical and surgical patients
serving over 120,000 patients each year, and 15 operating rooms. So I think in this case High Point
Regional is growing with the community.
Is Downsizing of Hospitals Affecting Medical Care in the United States? I also think a lot of
these community hospitals are downsizing and/ or closing is because with the new technologies
coming across the board, the smaller hospitals cannot afford the upgrades like the hospitals in
the big cities. Case in point, I use to live in Pennsylvania and in the county I lived in there are a
lot of very small towns. The hospital that was in our town Spangler Memorial was what everyone
call a Band Aid hospital because they were not equip for major surgeries or baby

The World Of The Vietnam War
The year is 1965: the skate board is the latest craze in kids toys; the miniskirt makes its
appearance; hypertext is introduced for linking on the Internet; Kellogg s Pop Tarts pastries are
created; Sonny Cher make their first TV appearance in American Bandstand ; rights activist
Malcolm X is shot dead; the Gemini 3 launched the first US 2 man space flight; and the first United
States combat forces arrive in Vietnam. This was not the start of the Vietnam War since the war
actually started in 1955, pitting Communist North Vietnamagainst anti Communist South Vietnam.
The United States believed it had to protect South Vietnam from Communist take over and is the
reason the U.S. supplied South Vietnam with millions of dollars in military aid as well as with
military advisors from the start of the war. Eventually, the US had no other choice but to send
troops to war and it became the first war Americans opposed publicly and passionately, making
the US involvement in the Vietnam War a shameful venture rather than a noble cause. Although
the Vietnam War was the first televised war, it is unclear if Vietnam War films are able to give
an honest portrayal of the Vietnam War experience, or if truer reality of the war can be found
only in textbooks. The Vietnam War was so much a part of American life that it could not be
ignored, and with war films losing their appeal after World War II, it s hard to know if the Vietnam
War would be actually portrayed on the big screen. The

The Red Wheelbarrow Rhetorical Devices
William Carlos Williams used many different forms of rhetorical devices to portray his overall
tone or message for certain lines of his poems. In The Red Wheelbarrow , William s used
alliteration, imagery, and form to present his theme. The overall theme of this modern poem
explains the ties between the natural world and man. The wheelbarrow acts as a symbol of strength,
describing how nature takes care of the world without the presence of man. The author specifically
articulated this poem s stanzas in order to step outside the lines of most poems. Throughout the
poem many forms of alliterationare presented. In line 1 the repeating s sound is strategically placed
to create the sound of rain as the reader deciphers the poem. The

Effects of Strip Mining on the Appalachian Environment Essay
Coal mining, in particular, strip mining has become the latest casualty of the growing green
movement in the United States. What is strip mining? Encyclopædia Britannica Online defines
strip mining as the removal of vegetation, soil, and rock above a layer of coal, followed by the
removal of the coal itself ( strip ). Most Americans don t realize the impact this material of
biological origin that can be used as a source of energy ( fossil ), or fossil fuel, has on their
everyday lives or the nation s economy. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration,

Deforestation s accompaniment is erosion. Since much of strip mined land lacks proper restoration,
weather causes further loss of soil and vital nutrients needed for native vegetation to grow.
Mountain Top Mining and Valley Fills Report published by the EPA cites KA Harper and others
educated and conducting studies in the fields of biology, environmental studies, and renewable
sources. According to Harper, the change in mineral content of land affected by surface mining
prohibits growth of indigenous plant life and allows foreign plant life to invade, changing the areas
ecosystem (Harper). Water contamination is the next major concern of environmental groups. The
Environmental Protection Agency, the governmental regulatory agency created in 1970 to manage
the enforcement of environmental policy, states its concerns in a letter to the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers in 2009 (United). Specifically addressing mines in West Virginia and Kentucky, the EPA
expressed serious concerns over water pollution from strip mining ( EPA ). The rupture of an ash
dike at the Tennessee Valley Authority s Kingston Fossil Plant in Roane County, TN on December
22, 2008 granted credibility to the EPA s concerns. In an article published by in Environmental
Health Perspectives, Rhitu Chatterjee comments on the poisonous substances contained in ash

Examples Of Man V Beast
Man v. Beast: Survival Instincts (Rough Draft) White Fang knew the law well: to oppress the
weak and obey the strong. (White Fang). Survival is essentially the battle of life and death or living
to see the light of another day. In order to continue through life, sacrifices are made in order to
preserve one s own life, whether it be through taking another or thievery. Such is the practice of the
wild that humans often refuse to partake, instead confining themselves within civilization so they
might never have to stain their hands with that of their brethren. However, it is humannatureto gain
more power where one already has it, and humans are sent against one another in war and forced
to engage in combat in order to save themselves. Survival is one of the cruel aspects of life in

London was known for his devotion to the idea of naturalism, or nature s constant triumph over
man (Murphy, Donna). Being that animals are accustomed to the demands of nature, they
easily adapt to their role in the world. However, humans, who have moved from nature to a more
civilized society, have lost their way in terms of surviving in the wild. We have become so
dependant on the comforts of civilization that if it were to all be taken away from us, we would
fall to nature s hands. Those who have committed themselves to furthering their knowledge of
nature, know very well the damage nature can deal. It is these people who know their limits and
usually choose not to push their luck with obstacles they know they cannot pass. Some might
call this cowardice, others may call it being too cautious or playing on the safe side. However,

Poverty In Poverty And Poverty
As a main theme in Hunger and Shame, child malnutrition is a serious problem that has affected
many different societies. Child malnutrition is a complicated concept that often has many causes;
each society is different and must be studied closely to fully understand the reason for such a
horrific epidemic. Focusing on the Chagga population, many factors catalyzed the epidemic
including environmental, cultural, and global. Coffee is a major cash crop of Chagga farmers (p.
xi) and a large portion of the economic profit, but what happens when drought and coffee berry
disease hit the Chagga society. Environmental problems such as these became a large problem
facing many people of the Chagga. Much of the rich farm land on Mt. Kilimanjaro inhabited
coffee trees and therefore leaving less space for individual gardens. When coffee berry disease and
drought affected the production of Tanzanias major export, people such as the Chagga were left with
a food shortage, therefore introducing another environmental problem: famine. Although families
could maintain home gardens with the small amount of land available, it rarely was enough to
satisfy the whole family. Yet Chagga farmers were not permitted to convert coffee farming land
into land for personal farming. Another large cause of sickness came from the bacteria ridden
water. Women did not boil the water upon giving it to their young. A lot of people have heard don

The Weight Of A Healthy Lifestyle
The Weight of a Healthy Lifestyle The human race is obsessed with perfection. Different forms
of media filled with rhetoric force human beings to have a certain expectations for themselves.
These expectations can be unrealistic and impossible to obtain. Human beings have been known
to go to extreme lengths and basically force their body to shape a certain way. This is unhealthy.
Even if someone needs to lose some extra pounds there is a correct way to do so. However, there
are also ways to lose weight that do not benefit the overall healthof one s body. In a human s search

Sometimes eating disordered people do not even realize what negative things they are doing to
their body. Sometimes weight loss can turn into an addiction. An eating disorder is defined as a
pathological obsession with getting and staying thin . Regardless of size, sex, or race there is
some form of media, or peer pressure that influence people s thinking. This pressure is not of a
physical nature. It all deals with one s mental state. Images of an ideal body is ingrained into the
mind starting at a young age. Thinner and thicker people both can develop eating disorders from
a thin ideal. Often the disorders that are associated with thinner people are disorders such as
anorexia and bulimia. These disorders do not let the body consume or digest food. In the case of
bulimia which is defined as an eating disorder characterized by at least biweekly cycles of

Play And Literacy
The thought of school and play don t generally belong in the same category. Although people don t
find play important in a classroom, play is very important especially in the early childhood setting.
In early education classrooms students begin exploring, experimenting and mastering the
beginnings of numeracy, literacy and even science. While children are talking and playing with one
and another they are learningthose concepts. Oral language and written are spread throughout
classrooms. When talking is not an occurrence in the classroom students are listening to directions,
identifying their cubbies, cleaning up and responding to questions which is all considered play.
In order to meet the academic requirements play does not need to be nonexistent in the
classroom. According to research play, high quality play can and does have a huge advantage
on the development of their literacy and language skills. One of the greatest effects on the
development of literacy and language is dramatic play. Being able to have the usage of multiple
props and objects, roles and themes as well as being able to create a scenario is one of the best
ways to provide and allows students to practice language as well as literacy. In order to promote
the levels of language and literacy all elements need to be present to the students in the classroom.

The Role Of Achievement Motivation
CHAPTER FIVE
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, RECOMMENDATIONS AND
SUGGESTIONS FOR FURTHER STUDIES
5.1 SUMMARY
Over the years there has been hue and cry on industrial development in Nigeria. But the focus was
mainly on the governments contribution and its activities like intervention policies and program to
realize this goal. Furthermore, huge budgetary allocation designated, and plunged into the sector
notwithstanding, only modest success, if any had been recorded. Consequent upon this, this
research topic was thought out, to depart slightly and investigate into some of the impediments, and
X ray the human variables in realizing this objective. Hence, The role of achievement motivation in
industrial development in Nigeria . Volumes of literatures were reviewed, and data was collected
and analyzed. The research work was aimed at finding out the extent to which the need for

Examples Of Sexism In Metropolis
Science fiction s presence in film is nearly as old as film itself. With humble beginnings, film
pioneers such as the French George MГ©liГЁs set the genre in motion. At first, simple pastiches to
Jules Verne pervaded, whether it be adventurous astronauts on a trip to the moon or the maiden
voyage of a (then) futuristic airship. Then, come the German avant garde, the expressionist
masterpiece Metropolis proved that the science fictionfilm could go beyond the trivial and occupy
a place of legitimate artistic worth. Metropolis also marks the first feature length film to feature a
robot though the word is never used. Instead, Maria is a Maschinenmensch, a machine human, a

She has breasts, sex appeal, she dances, she winks her smoky eye. Other robots in film, like the
Terminator, portray what are perceived as definitively masculine characteristics. Roy Schwartzman,
in writing for Studies in Popular Culture, calls this trend of sexualizing what should be sex less
robots engenderneering. (75) In reality, robots, defined as machines that operate autonomously,
have no need for sexual characteristics. Real robots have no gender characteristics because, as of
now, unlike in film, the robot s existence is limited to strictly industrial and scientific applications.
Should robots hit the mainstream and enter our homes as maids or nannies (Г la Rosie in The
Jetsons), their designs may incorporate more markedly human qualities. In order for consumers to
feel more comfortable around their new robot friends, they may give them names and choose to
gender the personality that is programmed into them. (Schwartzman 83) Maria in Metropolis has no
need for gender; she is only a simulated she and, within her mechanical core, lacks desire, spirit,
empathy, love, malice, etc. Maria tells us that in the 1920s, robots were still being seen as
mechanical humans that require a personality and gender identity, despite robots in reality having
nothing at all with their human creators. But the more autonomous machines become, the greater
the need for talking about them in anthropological terms. Jump forward 40 years in film history to

Country s Imperialism:
Catalonia
The country of Catalonia, located in Europe, is a country that every single person would like to

coming to their spiritual, physical, and mental health. However, the country is going to imperialize
the country of Spain because the people of Catalonia are demanding to be just like Spain. The
country is going to travel on small boats until they reach the coast of Barcelona, Spain. The main

In addition, Catalonia has gained political power from conquering Spain. For instance, the people

Gender Discrimination
Our social justice issue is gender discrimination. Gender Discrimination is a major thing going
on in our world today. Therefore, gender discrimination happens in things such as sports,
education, health, employment, laws, and in different countries. Gender discrimination was a
major thing in the past, and is still a major thing today. Men continually think women are weak,
and so women are targeted more in crimes. They also think that women won t stand up for
themselves, and women continually let men bring them down because they aren t brave
enough. In jobs they believe women won t work, and that women aren t capable enough to do
the job, so women end up getting paid less or have to work ridiculously short hours. Today in our
century, women are targeted more than men because they are considered weak. Being labeled
weak makes women are more vulnerable to at least one form of abuse. 1 in 3 women are abused
in some form at a time of their life by a man. Women are targeted for crimes, such as home break

well. Women are also being killed all the time. In India, women are burned to death if they can t
meet financial requirements, while men aren t. In Egypt, women are killed if they do something

Tort Law Reform And The Law Of Negligence

A Tort is a legal construct and is not to be confused with a wrong in the general sense. It only

Difference Between Modern And Modern Society
Over time, man has divided into two organized and civilized societies that have adopted different
cultures and trends. Over time this led to the formation of the traditional society, then the modern
society. This essay will be focusing on the difference between those two society s. Many
comparisons can be made between the two, but I will be focusing on the difference in Family,
social class, and technology. In a traditional society, customs and the improvement of society as a
whole is its primary focus, while in a modern society the focus is on individual success and free
will. Although there are many advantages and benefits to having a traditional society, I am more
sympathetic to modern society because now people have more freedom to choose for example
whether it be their clothing, occupation, or spouse.
To start off, in a traditional society, the family is the basic unit and obligations towards the
family never change regardless of age. Men and women had specific gender roles in the family.
Men were the breadwinners in the family whereas women had the domestic role of being the
caregivers and looked after the children and household chores. The women s role had to be a
more submissive one whereas in a modern society they are granted many freedoms that they did
not have in the past. In a modern society it is common for women to make some of the decisions,
especially when it comes to money. Most modern women wish to move away from those traditional
gender roles and instead

We memorize items through what is known as the Information Processing Model, one of the many
models scientists use to interpret our memory. The Processing Model operates like a computer
where we receive an input for the result of an output. Our sensory memory is what commences the
Information Processing Model. Sensory memory is the temporary register of all the information
your senses are taking in , and each of the five senses endures for a certain amount of time (Khan
Academy). We have a total five senses, although the most studied amongst them are our haptic
memory (touch), our iconic memory (visual), and echoic memory (audio). When the information
lasts long enough, the sensory information then gets delivered to our working memory or
otherwise known as our short term memory. Working memory is just whatever you are thinking
about right at this . Our working memory can hold round and about 7 pieces of information at a
time although people with physiological ailments such as dementia greatly suffer in this area
making it hard for them to simply be attentive, recall instructions, etc. We use our working memory
in classrooms, working environment, etc. For example, when I read and try to comprehend a
passage during my reading or literature exam to answer the questions, I would simply be utilizing
my working memory. Our working memory processes information according to the type of input
that was initially received. Our working

Gender Roles In Gold Diggers And Swing Time
From Fortunes to Pennies: The Sexual Economics of Ginger Rogers Both Gold Diggers of 1933
(Busby Berkeley, 1933) and Swing Time (George Stevens, 1936) feature the now infamous
Ginger Rogers in two very different roles. In Gold Diggers, she plays a supporting role as the
chorus girl Fay Fortune, whereas in Swing Time, she is the top billed star playing the show
business hopeful Penny Carol aside her perennial film and dance partner, Fred Astaireas show
business veteran Lucky Garnett. These two Ginger Rogers roles provide insight into the
socioeconomic roles women played in the societal landscape of the 1930s. By analyzing the same
actress in two roles, one leading and one supporting, in two film musicals produced three years
apart, we can isolate exactly what characteristics were fit for a leading ladyat that point in film
history. Upon close examination, many of the changes made from the supporting role of Fay to the
leading role of Penny can boil down to two overarching themes: sexual repressionand heterosexual
coupling. A simple way to begin tracking this evolution is by considering the wardrobes of the
two characters. Penny s wardrobe is very conservative. Her legs are almost always covered, even
to the point of frustration as it often obscures the view of her spectacular dancing and intricate
footwork. Also, she tends to wear very plain fabrics, and she is especially fond of white, which
symbolically portrays the virginal, pure personality we associate with Penny.

Supply And Demand Of A Good Or Service
Supply and demand is a fundamental factor in shaping the character of the marketplace. A
demand refers to the specific quantity of a product /good or service that people are willing and

people are willing and able to offer for sale at given price level. There are various factors that

there is a change in factors other than price, results in the shift of demand curve. For example, if

price level leading demand curve to shift to the right. Similarly, if there is a fall in the disposable
income of the consumers or rise in the prices of close substitute of a good or decline in consumer

Dispositional, Biological, and Evolutionary Psychology
University of Phoenix
Dispositional, Biological, and Evolutionary Psychology
Personality theory has come a long way since its beginning in psychology. Many theorists have
based their work on theorists before them, but made changes that indicate that the characteristics of
the individual affects the ideas behind their work (Feist, Feist, amp; Roberts, 2013). Comparing
dispositional, biological, and evolutionary theories indicates the similarities and differences
between the theories; as well as their strengths and weaknesses. The use of these theories has led to

Focusing on how our mind works, is designed, and how our mind interacts to our environment
evolutionary psychology sees behavior as an adaptation (Feist, Feist, amp; Roberts, 2013).
Evolutionary psychology, once again looks at humans not just from a psychoanalytical perspective,
not just a biological perspective, but from both as well as an environmental perspective (Feist, et al,
2013). It is broad in its application without denying theories of others.
What will you find common among all of the theories mentioned above is the use of drives to
motivate human behavior. Dispositional theories assert that humans look to the future for
motivation (Wilderdom.com, 2005). These theories look at current events and goals, as opposed
to the past, to establish their behavior. Biological psychology does not attribute humans much
free will (Wilderdom.com, 2005). It focuses on what has been predetermined for the person
based on biology through genetics, or structure, for example. Evolutionary psychology views
behavior as a product of evolutionary drives for power and sex (Wilderdom.com, 2005). This
outlook is similar to Freudian views on sex and aggression, but instead of being based
subconscious thought it is now based on an evolutionary need to adapt and overcome.
Critiques on Theories
The challenge for any of these theories is to be scientifically tested. Dispositional theories have
done a lot to expand the field of personality and have been very useful at initiating

The research market In B2B, Wright states that the pressure to get industrial products with the right
benefits to market ahead of the competition is the main concern (Wright 2004). Secondary
researches such as the market, the trends are more used than primary researches as organisations
activity is based on economic and industrial trend. In B2B, there is a focus on making the products
matching the consumer demand. Secondary researches are needed but primary researches about
consumers psychology are more important as their wants and needs are changing over the years.

Gothic Criticism In Northanger Abbey, By Jane Austen
Jane Austen is the first great woman writer in English and, arguably, England s first great
novelist. She is one of those literary artists, who not only laid the foundation of novel, but also
give it to a new direction. A supremely comic writer and moralist, Austen redefines novel as a
delicate instrument to reveal human nature. She is one of the few novelists in the world literature
who is regarded as a classic and yet is widely read. She wrote six major novels, however, only four
novels were published during her life time that established her reputation in literary circle
anonymously. Her earliest novel Northanger Abbeyand last completed novel Persuasion were the

As Catherine; a young woman s mind can be easily influenced by such things. Her near
obsession reflects that of the society of her time. Through using Gothic themes and motifs,
Austen creates an effective atmosphere but rather than creating a horrific and mysterious story
from them, she clearly depicts the effects the genre had on young women during their time of
writing. She shows the societal opinion of the Gothic, her own opinion of Gothic novelists, and
how the genre can influence one s imagination. For Catherine, Northanger Abbey symbolizes an
imagined ideal. As soon as she enters the abbey, she begins to think of herself as the heroine of a
Gothic novel. Unlike Bath, which is simply a pleasant tourist town, the Abbey is a place of
mystery and perhaps even adventure, at least in Catherine s mind. She makes the mistake of
applying Gothic novels to real life situations; for example, later in the novel she begins to suspect
General Tilney of having murdered his deceased wife. When the Abbey turns out to be
disappointingly normal, Catherine uses her memory of the abbeys from her novel reading to make
it more frightening. She soon learns that the world is not all melodrama and eventually matures and

eliminating other areas. However, nothing has been set in stone yet, and the wheels of progress
definitely turn slow. Even in a company the size of Brian s.
Human Resources
As so much time has been spent on the other areas I spoke of, no system has ever really been put
into place for human resources. The human resources department consists of one person, who is
also the bookkeeper. When an application comes in, it goes to her and she sorts out the one who
just do not have the qualifications we need. She then calls and sets up interviews for these
people. From this point, it is a bit of a jumble, but typically it hits the same basics. The candidate
speaks to the manager of the area looking for personnel, and usually approves or disapproves of
him/her on the spot. Then the ball goes back into the bookkeeper court and she sends them for a
drug test, issues an employment packet, and a timeport that will record their hours for payroll. This
same one woman is also our benefits coordinator, accountant, bookkeeper, office manager, and any
other projects that come down the pike that the receptionist is unable to handle.
Again, this is an outdated system, which is extremely unfair to the В‘girl Friday . At this time, this
structure works without an overly stressful amount of workload on her. It will not be

Electrophoresis Analysis
Agarose gel electrophoresis used for the separation of the fragments was based on the migration of
the negatively charged DNA to the positively charged anode. DNA has a uniform mass/charge
ratio therefore allowing the molecules to be separated by size within an agarose gel such that the
distance travelled is inversely proportional to its molecular weight. The rate of migration is
controlled by the following; size of DNA molecule, agarose concentration, DNA conformation,
voltage applied presence of ethidium bromide, type of agarose and electrophoresis buffer.

Controversies On The Existence Of God
Existence of God
Major issues and controversies on the existence of God
Name: Yasin Eroglu
Student Number: 213483441
Course Name and Code: The Nature of Religion: An Introduction, AP/HUMA 1860 6.00
Teacher Assistant: Irfaan Jaffer
Due Date: April 14, 2015 Beliefs cannot be validated, and for this reason, people believe in what
they choose to. This paves way to question the existence of God, the existence of an omnipotent
and omniscient being. Given that the Divine is beyond sensory experience, there are questions
and controversies regarding His existence. Views on God s existence can be placed on a
spectrum: on one end, those who accept a divine power, and on the other, those who reject it. In
this essay, I argue that God exists.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, belief in God requires faith. Faith is needed in order for one to accept the existence of
the Divine. The existence of God is controversial (and unlikely) for one who has no basis of faith.
This is because reason cannot explain faith. Reason cannot explain the existence of something
that it has no basis for. This relates back to Descartes cogito ergo sum, meaning, I think, therefore
I am. Although Descartes was concerned with knowledge of the individual, this can relate to
God. To think that there exists a God inherently assumes that there is such a force in the universe.
Given that religion is a collective practice and an act of obedience to God performed by many
people for centuries, it seems horrendous to assume that so many people have been wrong about
their experience and belief. One can come to this conclusion through deduction by moving from
general to specific; millions of people cannot simply be wrong in believing that there is a

Traditional Tales As A Reflection Of Culture
Traditional tales are a reflection of the culture in which they are told due to various aspects such as
their concern with goddesses, gods, and other supernatural creatures that relate to humans. The
importance of myths being traditional tales and a reflection of culture displays the civilization and
society of a myth and its truths. Humanculture conserves historical records through the human
language. It is known that humans were passing oral stories soon after they developed the ability
of speech, resulting in important supernatural events and dates to be told before the present day,
though they are accepted as imaginative creations similar to Greek tragedies. . 1P. Ian. Myth in the
Ancient World (Palgrave, 2012), p. 11. They also do not have a known author, which results in the
inevitability of multiple versions of a specific story being told. By means of this, ancient traditions
reflected numerous elements of culture.
A substantial amount of the traditional tales have been rewritten in various forms and have also
become printed literature. The tales are extremely important within a society because it carries
culture in which is a reflection of a certain society. Due to this, myths express many differences
such as social practices, the beliefs of the creators, and the wisdom behind each story. This allows us
to understand that there is much more to myths than inspiration and entertainment, in fact, they
express the spiritual truths of mankind. Albeit the fact that

Don t Bother Me By James Taggart And Hank Rearden
Don t bother me, don t bother me, don t bother me. James Taggart, President of Taggart
Transcontinental Railroad and one of the last descendants of the distinguished Nat Taggart,
exists in a constant state of irritation. He snaps at any interruption; he whines at any setback; he
dissolves into hysterics when faced with a problem of any size. More often than not, he foists
accountability and responsibility for action upon his capable sister and Vice President, Dagny.
Bother and its avoidance are a central part of Taggart s existence. His bother comes to him in
many forms, simultaneously referring with different shadings to different circumstances;
however, they are all symptoms of his deepest, greatest bother. If his bother is felt as annoyance
and perplexity, he is bothered by the idea of business and its embodiment in the competent
industrialists Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden. Taggart is first introduced as he swats at these
bothers; Eddie Willers, that honorable feudal serf of the Taggarts and their railroad, had
approached him with concerns about a wreck on his Rio Norte Line and its consequences (15).
Naturally, he ducks that responsibility, pleading don t bother me and instead taking the opportunity
to argue with Eddie over the ethics of his railroad. He has no use for the particulars of business
when, it seems to him, there are more important things in the world than making money (17). This
vaguely moral realm is one where the primary virtues are the

Gandhi s Early Self Identification
Early days
Mahatma Gandhi was the primary leader of India s independence movement and also the architect
of a form of non violent civil disobedience that would influence the world.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Gandhi, was born to Putlibai on October 2nd,
1869 in Porabandar,India. His father, Karamchand Uttamchand Gandhi served as the Diwan chief
minister of Porbandar state.
The Indian classics, especially the stories of and king Harishchandra, had a great impact on
Gandhi in his childhood. Gandhi s early self identification with truth and love as supreme values is
traceable to these epic characters. On 21 January 1879, Mohandas entered the local district school
in Rajkot, not far from his home. At school, he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mavji Dave, a brahmin priest and family friend, advised Gandhi that he should qualify as a
barrister in London, after which he would be certain to achieve the diwanship. Initially, Putlibai
did not want her youngest son to leave India and travel across the ocean, thereby losing his caste
according to believes at that time. But somehow Gandhi convinced and got the permission to
leave. On 10 August 1888, Gandhi left Porbandar for Bombay (Mumbai). Upon arrival in the port,
he was met by the head of the Modh Bania community, who had known Gandhi s family for a
while. Having learned of Gandhi s plans, he and other elders warned Gandhi that he would be
excommunicated if he did not remain in India. Gandhi did not change his intentions to leave for
England, therefore being daclared and outcast. While in London his mother died, but his family
kept the news from him.
South Africa
Gandhi was 24 when he arrived in South Africa in 1893 to work as a legal representative for the
Muslim Indian Traders based in the city of Pretoria. He spent 21 years in South Africa, where he
developed his political views, ethics and political leadership skills. Indians in South Africa
included wealthy Muslims, who employed Gandhi as a lawyer, and impoverished Hindu
indentured labourers with very limited rights. He believed that he understood India better by
getting to know and leading Indians in South Africa. He faced several challenges in South Africa.
He majorly faced the

Everything has to be filled in, it seems appointment books, hillsides, vacant lots but when all the spaces are filled, the Loneliness really begins. (p.147) By pointing out the paradox where the pursuit of fullness results in emptiness, it forces the audience to examine situations from their own experience, specifically failures and check whether they have been going the wrong direction the whole time. At first I tried to define it, my plan was to create a religion, synthesizing the belief that such and such is supposed to be perfect. After concluding that I needed a universal definition of perfection, this idea was soon abandoned for being too narrow and I went on the search for a way to eliminate human influence, thus rendering it objective and is therefore perfect as a matter of fact. Ultimately realizing that perfection is a human construct and isolating it from humanity would leave me with nothing, perfection would cease to exist. When I finally accepted the impossible nature of an objective perfection, creating it became straightforward. A lie must be constructed in order to make it exist, and when the impossible perfection comes to existence, thankfully as humans are not omniscient, the lie can be covered up. I have tried to completely ignore the nature of perfection, making my own rules, and that idea collapsed quickly. By giving in a little and learning about how the concept of perfection came to be, I decided to alter it, bend it to my need but inevitably, I was unsuccessful. Only when I went along with its nature without meddlesome, combative, or egotistical effort (p.68), was I able to attain the otherwise impossible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Higher Price of Higher Education The High Price of Higher Education In America s society today, students are expected to follow the path of day care, grade school, middle school, high school and hopefully college. Growing up in America today, the importance of education is stressed starting at the earliest stages of development. In a world with a competitive job market and with citizens who want to make the most money that they can, a college education is key in success. For some students, financing college is not a problem. Money should not be a factor in the student s decision making process when choosing what school to attend, but unfortunately many people are unable to attend the universityof their choice due to the high costs. If this is the case then there should be documentation of these increases but, academic institutions have made little effort either on or off campus to make themselves transparent to explain their finances, (Tuition Rising). There is no documentation that describes what every penny of tuition pays for. It is only stated that it goes toward administrative costs, faculty salaries, technology, Federal regulation, endowment, State appropriations, (Tuition Rising). But why are the costs rising? Patrick M. Callan, president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, states that there s not much going on in either private or public higher education that is very serious about cost control, (Tuition Rising). He believes that Underlying all this is that more kids are graduating from high school every year, most of them want to go to college, and so it s a seller s market. Universities raise tuition because they can, (Tuition Rising). This makes us wonder if universities are tricking us of our money since they have not documented where tuition is going. In order to avoid confusion from students and parents who want answers, the government should require institutions to have documentation of what tuition is funding. Financial aid is a popular choice for students to fund their college education, which presently costs an average of $15,566 for an undergraduate student ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry David Thoreau and Martin Luther King, Jr. s Justification of Defying Unjust Laws In his famous essay, Letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King, Jr. cites conscience as a guide to obeying just laws and defying unjust laws. In the same way, Henry David Thoreau wrote in his famous essay, Civil Disobedience, that people should do what their conscience tells them and not obey unjust laws. The positions of the two writers are very close; they use a common theme of conscience, and they use a similar rhetorical appeal of ethos. In Civil Disobedience Thoreau claims that men should act from their conscience. Thoreau believed it was the duty of a person to disobey the law if his conscience says that the law is unjust. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He disagreed with other American people who believed the majority should change the law first because it is a worse thing to disobey the law than to do what an unjust law says to do. Thoreau wrote that breaking the unjust laws is better: Break the law. Let your life be a counter friction to stop the machine (Thoreau, P. 18). However, Thoreau did not think people should be criminals. He thinks a criminal is a person who disobeys the law but will not be responsible for that. If a person disobeys an unjust law, Thoreau thinks that the person must do that, so all people can see he is disobeying the law because it is unjust. Then the person must accept what happens to him for disobeying the law. Thoreau wrote that people must be willing to go to jail if they want to change a law by disobeying the law. Thoreau went to jail instead of paying for his taxes because he believed the government used the money for unjust things. This is how Henry Thoreau thinks people can change unjust laws. He thought that if people willingly would to go to jail and quit their jobs, then the revolution will take a place and reform will come. Thoreau was willing to go to jail to change unjust laws because of his conscience. King s position on unjust laws was very close to Thoreau s position on unjust laws. However, the topics often broadened to other areas, one of the most recurring being that of female sexuality and whether literature depicted it as pure and nearly asexual or tainted and virulent. I think this topic is a pressing issue in today s culture; many states are fine tuning abortion, rape, and gender identification laws as I write this. I also saw much attention being paid to this topic in two of the novels we read this semester: Mary Wollstonecrafts The Wrongs of Woman, or Maria, and Mary Robinson s The Natural Daughter. She loved Lord Francis, but Mr. Morley was her husband (268). Even when her sister Julia becomes Mr. Morley s mistress, Martha will not, in the smallest instance, violate the proprieties of wedded life (278). It is not until two events occurred that Martha was willing to allow her sexuality to become primary: one, her husband dies with full knowledge that he was wrong about Martha and had ruined her for nothing, and two, Martha learns that Lord Francis is not Fanny s deceiving father, but the child s uncle, brother to Fanny s biological mother (293 5). As speedily as the decencies of life would permit, Lord Francis solicited and received the hand of Mrs. Morley (296). For the character of Martha, rationality and forthrightness far outweigh the sensibility of and desire to act on her sexuality. Lady Oracle is the narrative in which Joan Foster, the first person narrator, tells the story of her life. Spanning the time period of the early 1940s through 1970s, Joan s story describes her growing up in Toronto, becoming an author of gothic romances, marrying and faking her suicide to escape the complicated turmoil of her life. The Handmaid s Tale takes place in a city what used to be in the United States, now called the Republic of Gilead. In this alternative future state, the democratic government has been overthrown and replaced by an authoritarian one. In this book, the narrator, Offred, acts as the reader s eyes and ears. People who have read this novel see Gilead as she sees it; they interpret it as she interprets it; and their only knowledge of it comes from the information she gives to them. Margaret Atwoods The Handmaid s Tale and Lady Oracle both portray the theme of the roles of women in society. This will be discussed by analyzing and contrasting the conflicts that Offred and Joan are faced with, and how they react to these conflicts. This was not the start of the Vietnam War since the war actually started in 1955, pitting Communist North Vietnamagainst anti Communist South Vietnam. The United States believed it had to protect South Vietnam from Communist take over and is the reason the U.S. supplied South Vietnam with millions of dollars in military aid as well as with military advisors from the start of the war. Eventually, the US had no other choice but to send troops to war and it became the first war Americans opposed publicly and passionately, making the US involvement in the Vietnam War a shameful venture rather than a noble cause. Although the Vietnam War was the first televised war, it is unclear if Vietnam War films are able to give an honest portrayal of the Vietnam War experience, or if truer reality of the war can be found only in textbooks. At first, simple pastiches to Jules Verne pervaded, whether it be adventurous astronauts on a trip to the moon or the maiden voyage of a (then) futuristic airship. Then, come the German avant garde, the expressionist masterpiece Metropolis proved that the science fictionfilm could go beyond the trivial and occupy a place of legitimate artistic worth. Roy Schwartzman, in writing for Studies in Popular Culture, calls this trend of sexualizing what should be sex less robots engenderneering. (75) In reality, robots, defined as machines that operate autonomously, have no need for sexual characteristics. Real robots have no gender characteristics because, as of now, unlike in film, the robot s existence is limited to strictly industrial and scientific applications. Should robots hit the mainstream and enter our homes as maids or nannies (Г la Rosie in The Jetsons), their designs may incorporate more markedly human qualities. In order for consumers to feel more comfortable around their new robot friends, they may give them names and choose to gender the personality that is programmed into them. (Schwartzman 83) Maria in Metropolis has no need for gender; she is only a simulated she and, within her mechanical core, lacks desire, spirit, empathy, love, malice, etc. Maria tells us that in the 1920s, robots were still being seen as mechanical humans that require a personality and gender identity, despite robots in reality having nothing at all with their human creators. But the more autonomous machines become, the greater the need for talking about them in anthropological terms. Over time this led to the formation of the traditional society, then the modern society. This essay will be focusing on the difference between those two society s. Many comparisons can be made between the two, but I will be focusing on the difference in Family, social class, and technology. In a traditional society, customs and the improvement of society as a whole is its primary focus, while in a modern society the focus is on individual success and free will. Although there are many advantages and benefits to having a traditional society, I am more sympathetic to modern society because now people have more freedom to choose for example whether it be their clothing, occupation, or spouse. To start off, in a traditional society, the family is the basic unit and obligations towards the family never change regardless of age. Men and women had specific gender roles in the family. Men were the breadwinners in the family whereas women had the domestic role of being the caregivers and looked after the children and household chores. The women s role had to be a more submissive one whereas in a modern society they are granted many freedoms that they did not have in the past. In a modern society it is common for women to make some of the decisions, especially when it comes to money. Most modern women wish to move away from those traditional gender roles and instead ... In Gold Diggers, she plays a supporting role as the chorus girl Fay Fortune, whereas in Swing Time, she is the top billed star playing the show business hopeful Penny Carol aside her perennial film and dance partner, Fred Astaireas show business veteran Lucky Garnett. These two Ginger Rogers roles provide insight into the socioeconomic roles women played in the societal landscape of the 1930s. By analyzing the same actress in two roles, one leading and one supporting, in two film musicals produced three years apart, we can isolate exactly what characteristics were fit for a leading ladyat that point in film history. Upon close examination, many of the changes made from the supporting role of Fay to the leading role of Penny can boil down to two overarching themes: sexual repressionand heterosexual coupling. A simple way to begin tracking this evolution is by considering the wardrobes of the two characters. Penny s wardrobe is very conservative. Her legs are almost always covered, even to the point of frustration as it often obscures the view of her spectacular dancing and intricate footwork. It is broad in its application without denying theories of others. What will you find common among all of the theories mentioned above is the use of drives to motivate human behavior. Dispositional theories assert that humans look to the future for motivation (Wilderdom.com, 2005). These theories look at current events and goals, as opposed to the past, to establish their behavior. Biological psychology does not attribute humans much free will (Wilderdom.com, 2005). The Bacterial Culture And Growth Results Bacterial culture and Growth Isolates were resuscitated from storage by culturing on glucose yeast extract agar and single colonies of the isolates inoculated on glucose yeast extract broth incubated at 28oC in a rotatory shaker at 180 rpm showed that growth saturation at 0.8 O.D was after 24 hr of incubation showed that Rhodococcus species are aerobic Biochemical Assay Determination of concentration of crude extract was based on Bradford Coomassie brilliant blue assay which forms a complex between the protein dye and protein in solution which causes a shift in the maximum absorption of light that passes the dye from 465 to 595 nm (Bradford, 1976). The amount of light that passes through the protein solution is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DNA has a uniform mass/charge ratio therefore allowing the molecules to be separated by size within an agarose gel such that the distance travelled is inversely proportional to its molecular weight. The rate of migration is controlled by the following; size of DNA molecule, agarose concentration, DNA conformation, voltage applied presence of ethidium bromide, type of agarose and electrophoresis buffer. • 44. Controversies On The Existence Of God Existence of God Major issues and controversies on the existence of God Name: Yasin Eroglu Student Number: 213483441 Course Name and Code: The Nature of Religion: An Introduction, AP/HUMA 1860 6.00 Teacher Assistant: Irfaan Jaffer Due Date: April 14, 2015 Beliefs cannot be validated, and for this reason, people believe in what they choose to. This paves way to question the existence of God, the existence of an omnipotent and omniscient being. Given that the Divine is beyond sensory experience, there are questions and controversies regarding His existence. Views on God s existence can be placed on a spectrum: on one end, those who accept a divine power, and on the other, those who reject it. In this essay, I argue that God exists.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, belief in God requires faith. Faith is needed in order for one to accept the existence of the Divine. The existence of God is controversial (and unlikely) for one who has no basis of faith. This is because reason cannot explain faith. Reason cannot explain the existence of something that it has no basis for. This relates back to Descartes cogito ergo sum, meaning, I think, therefore I am. Although Descartes was concerned with knowledge of the individual, this can relate to God. To think that there exists a God inherently assumes that there is such a force in the universe. Given that religion is a collective practice and an act of obedience to God performed by many people for centuries, it seems horrendous to assume that so many people have been wrong about their experience and belief. One can come to this conclusion through deduction by moving from general to specific; millions of people cannot simply be wrong in believing that there is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Traditional Tales As A Reflection Of Culture Traditional tales are a reflection of the culture in which they are told due to various aspects such as their concern with goddesses, gods, and other supernatural creatures that relate to humans. The importance of myths being traditional tales and a reflection of culture displays the civilization and society of a myth and its truths. Humanculture conserves historical records through the human language. It is known that humans were passing oral stories soon after they developed the ability of speech, resulting in important supernatural events and dates to be told before the present day, though they are accepted as imaginative creations similar to Greek tragedies. . 1P. Ian. Myth in the Ancient World (Palgrave, 2012), p. 11. They also do not have a known author, which results in the inevitability of multiple versions of a specific story being told. By means of this, ancient traditions reflected numerous elements of culture. A substantial amount of the traditional tales have been rewritten in various forms and have also become printed literature. The tales are extremely important within a society because it carries culture in which is a reflection of a certain society. Due to this, myths express many differences such as social practices, the beliefs of the creators, and the wisdom behind each story. This allows us to understand that there is much more to myths than inspiration and entertainment, in fact, they express the spiritual truths of mankind. Albeit the fact that ... • 46. Don t Bother Me By James Taggart And Hank Rearden Don t bother me, don t bother me, don t bother me. James Taggart, President of Taggart Transcontinental Railroad and one of the last descendants of the distinguished Nat Taggart, exists in a constant state of irritation. He snaps at any interruption; he whines at any setback; he dissolves into hysterics when faced with a problem of any size. More often than not, he foists accountability and responsibility for action upon his capable sister and Vice President, Dagny. Bother and its avoidance are a central part of Taggart s existence. His bother comes to him in many forms, simultaneously referring with different shadings to different circumstances; however, they are all symptoms of his deepest, greatest bother. If his bother is felt as annoyance and perplexity, he is bothered by the idea of business and its embodiment in the competent industrialists Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden. Taggart is first introduced as he swats at these bothers; Eddie Willers, that honorable feudal serf of the Taggarts and their railroad, had approached him with concerns about a wreck on his Rio Norte Line and its consequences (15). Naturally, he ducks that responsibility, pleading don t bother me and instead taking the opportunity to argue with Eddie over the ethics of his railroad. He has no use for the particulars of business when, it seems to him, there are more important things in the world than making money (17). This vaguely moral realm is one where the primary virtues are the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
