Australian Government Intervention
Australia s government has helped to intervene within the market when issues have arisen. The
more efficient allocation of resources and income is an initiative designed to assist the society.
Unfortunately, it can also cause costs to the community and market which can be seen from side
effects of their policies. The tight and loose monetary policies that are used can cause
unemployment and inflation which are both a cost for the economy. The government also imposes
tariffs which causes unfairness for consumers.
One benefit of government intervention in Australia is the more efficient allocation of resources in
the market. Australia s current policy for this reallocation of resources is to take money from select
industries using taxes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tight monetary policy is used by the government to reduce the level of economic activity. They
do this by creating upward pressure on interest rates and reducing the money supply. The high
interest rates would reduce the demand of money therefore dampening consumer and investor
spending. The drop in aggregate demand would reduce inflation but causes an increased rate of
unemployment which is a cost to society. On the other hand, a loose monetary policy is the
complete opposite where the government is trying to increase the level of economic supply. This
increases inflation for the economy. These two policies are used alternatively to try stabilise the
business cycle but they have a cost of the increasing inflation or unemployment in the

Essay about Achieving Community Development Goals for AGH...
AKH Group has a history of being in business for the last 35 years and it is almost mandatory for
such an established business to work for community development. Therefore, as a consultant I
would like to suggest the following road map for the purpose of achieving the goals of community
development spend its resources constructively for skill developmentand Primary health.
Strategic options:
Community Development is a process strengthening the society in which an organisation operates
with the aim of enhancing the mental and physical capacity of people to enable them to serve the
society in a better way.
As it is mentioned in the case that AKH group is planning to shell out Rs. 10,000 crore for the
purpose of skill development and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At last, hygienic environment should be maintained to keep their employees free from any kind of
ailments.
Cultural Aspects:
Culture is something which cannot be ignored while implementing any kind of strategies in any
kind of organisation. This is because if any organisation ignores the cultural aspect of any given
community then the chance for its survival reduces to minimum.
Therefore, before spending such huge sums on nation building a thorough study of the cultures and
the sub cultures relating to the particular community is an absolute necessity to ensure its
successful implementation.
This is particularly because in case a skill development programme requires all the ladies to work
for longer shifts in order to enhance their capabilities but in a particular culture women are not
allowed to work after dark then in that case such a development programme cannot be implemented
because such a policy is against the norms of that culture.
Therefore, any organisation should be most careful while studying the culture of a particular
community because it is its most sensitive part particularly in a country like India.
Economy:
Economic situation of a country and the organisation opting for such developmental programmes is
of utmost importance.
First and the foremost aim of any business is its survival. Therefore,

though the letter was from the 1940s, and there were many documentations of that time, my
mind was filled with awe of the historical relevance these letters could hold. These letters could
be a gateway to tens or hundreds of minds of women and men who have personal experience
with World War II. These letters were an entryway into the lives of those who had gone through
years and years of strife, of conflict. These letters give insight into the lost shadows of people
from the past, letting us forever memorialize and treasure their memories. I shout, completely
disregarding the goat, who lurches with fright, and flees into the thin trees in the distance. We
must gather these notes! Eleanor looks up with wide eyes, and nods jerkily in response.
Stooping along the sides of the road, we maniacally collect tens, and later hundreds of letters

The Effects Of Fitness Programs On The Workplace
It is very true that if one works and does not refresh, that person will be ineffective. Just as the
saying suggests that jack becomes dull out of working without any break of playing. It is very
true and applies to each and every person in the society more so those who are productive and
are indulged in business activities. Therefore even companies should allow the employees to be
exercising during work time so as to avoid workers who are dull as well. For a company to be
productive and prosperous, it has to spare some little work time to incorporate fitness programs in
its operations. Fitness programs in a workplace are very effective since with exercisethe employees
are less likely to become sick. It has been established that individuals who are physically fit are
more resistant to diseases associated with poor health lifestyles. A workforce which falls sick
less often will always be at work and thus will increase on the productivity of the business (Bird
et al. 20). Through regular exercise the employees will be able to sustain and increase their
energy throughout the day. The revived energy will enable them to stay focused on the
operations of the company as they try to bring the best out of themselves. Allowing the
employees to exercise in the workplace is very mandatory because it will help them to develop
self confidence. Individuals who exercise regularly are able to become physically fit and this
boosts their confidence and self esteem (Kerr, Griffiths and Cox

Music, Customs, And Lighting
The live performance I decided to go and see was called Celebrating 20 Old New Borrowed
Blue. This production was put up by the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company also known as
MET dance. During this production, there were four different choreographic works, Stirring
Simple Gifts in Shades of Blue , A Tribute to the Jazz Man called Steven Boyd Tribute, Air , and
lastly New Second Line (2006). All four of these works were equally great, but the two that
significantly stuck out to me were Air and the New Second Line (2006) . Throughout this paper, I
will delve to describe the different type of elements amongst the two different works of art, for
example, choreography, music, customs, and lighting. Air was uniquely put together; the audience
was able to see the choreographer s concept very clearly. Before this choreographic works were
presented, there was a lady that came on the intercom providing us with safety instructions as if we
were on a plane getting ready to take off. This signified the attention to which this performance was
accorded. Once the curtain opened and the dancers began to enter the stage, everything started to
take place. The dancers entered in unison though in a line from a far right entrance to the corner
that was open seemingly to give attention to the theme. Though early, I noticed that the exit was
different from the entrance as it was on the opposite side somehow in line with the movement of an
airplane. The background for this piece was

Disability In The Workplace Essay
For this assignment, I decided to assess and identify how a place in the community can enable or
hinder participation for people experiencing disability in my workplace, Sportchek east. I was
curious to see how my workplace compared to the standards towards helping to enable the
experience of someone experiencing a disability. Sportchek is a company that sells athletic wear and
sports equipment. At the beginning of this assignment, I thought that Sportchek was, for the most
part, accessible. But I was incorrect and naive in my assumption.

Transportation
Since Sportchek is attached to a mall, Regina s public transit system does have a stop located on
the side of the mall and a stop behind as well. The bus is easy to use and wheelchair accessible,
enabling people who experience disability to get around and be able to shop where they like. The

Argumentative Paper Euthanasia
Should Euthanasia be legalized?
Because of remarkable advances in medical technology pharmacology that can artificially prolong a
patient s life, the field of medical ethics has been confronted with a new controversy: the
legalization of euthanasia and physician assisted suicide. The word Euthanasia comes from the
Greek word for eus which means godly or well, and thanathos which literally means death (F.A.
Davis Company, 2001, p. 476). Before its contemporary use, the word euthanasia meant a peaceful,
quiet way to depart from earth. However, in modern times, this concept has sparked an incredible
controversy. Today, the word euthanasia also commonly, but wrongfully, used for the practices of
physician assisted suicide (PAS).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Literally the oath reads ...that I will exercise my art solely for the cure of my patients, and will
give no drug, perform no operation for a criminal purpose, even if solicited, far less suggested
(North, 2002). In addition, they assert, that euthanasia and PAS violates their principals of
nonmaleficence (the belief of not inflicting harm on an individual) (Beauchamp Childress, 1989, p.
194) and beneficence (positive acts of preventing harm, removing harm, and promoting good)
(1989, p. 121). Additionally they claim that such crucial end of life decisions can be reduced by
proper and suitable palliative care, and efficient pharmaceutical pain management (Hendin, 2004, p.
9). Opponents of euthanasia and PAS also maintain that the sanctity of life overrules the right to
personal freedom and choice. Religion and cultural background play a major role in those attitudes.
Some claim that the concept that an individual has a right to die is rejected on the basis that death
is inevitability, not a right (Ledger, 2007, p. 81). Others quote the six commandment of the
Christian faith that states thou shall not kill (murder) (Exodus 20:6). Christians believe that human
life is sacred. The Catechism of the Catholic Church number 2281 denounces the act of suicide as a
contradiction to the natural inclination of the human being to preserve and perpetuate his life
(Catholic Online, 2008). In

Pandas
Did you know that Giant Pandas can die from being overweight? There are endangered species all
over the world, one of them is the Giant Panda. Pandas are a fascinating creature and an interesting
animal to learn about. Pandas are mostly vegetarians but they do eat some meat. They mostly eat
bamboo and leaves. On (wwf.panda.org) it says that pandas mainly eat bamboo their second
chose are leaves and some meat. A panda s main diet is bamboo, but they eat one percent of meat
which is smaller prey like, mice, rats, pikas, and other small rodents. Meat is not their main food
they eat meat so they get protean. Giant pandas also like to eat stems and shoots of various bamboo
species. They eat plants because that is how they get their energy. ... Show more content on

They live in the mountains because of the farming, forest clearing and other developments. They
also live in the mountains because they feel safe and there is nothing to hurt them. According to the

Pandas have different lifespans when they live in the wild.
The difference between pandas in the wild and in captivity. The captive ones can live up to 30
years. According to (www.livescience.com) they live longer in captivity than they do in the wild.
When they live in the wild they often die from being overweight. However they don t always live
the same length as they do in the wild. The ones out in the wild live between 15 20. According to
Christina Stevens on Pet.On.Me, Pandas live longer in captivity because they are provided with the
right amount of food they need a day, in the wild they are not (http://animals.mom.me).

Article Review of VoIP Definition and Solution
VoIP Technology
This essay evaluates an analysis presented in an article discussing voice over Internet protocol
(VoIP) technology. The article, VoIP Definition and Solutions, written by PCWorld and CIO author
and editor Thomas Wailgum, describes how VoIP works, its capabilities and its applications. The
article examined the treatment of VoIP topics including its definition, objectives, systems and
solutions.
The term voice over IP refers to a technology that carries voice calls over an IP network by
digitizing and packetizing voice streams. Closely related to IP telephony and Internet telephony,
VoIP technology allows analog communications to be routed over data networks that include wide
area networks (WANs), local area networks (LANs), and the Internet. Combining voice and data on
one network can offer the Army potential telecommunications savings and efficiencies, but there
are challenges that come with maintaining network capability, reliability, flexibility and security.
Callers connect to VoIP technology in three ways. One method uses a regular telephone, along
with a fast Internet connection, and for the individual soldier placing a call, an analog telephone
adapter or ATA. The ATA converts analog voice signals into digital packets of data to be sent over
the Internet. This application of VoIP technology is easy to set up and use, and is frequently used
by VoIP consumers.
The Army, which has many users on traditional telephones, would need to use a specialized

Life, Liberty, And Pursuit Of Happiness In The Declaration...
The United States, one of the most powerful nations in the world, was founded less than two
hundred and fifty years ago. Since 1776, the year when the thirteen original colonies ratified the
Constitution, three cornerstone ideas have been the drivers of the country s progress Life, Liberty,
and Pursuit of Happiness. Found in the Declaration of Independence, which was written by Thomas
Jefferson, these three concepts have been crucial in the lives of all Americans throughout the
existence of this nation. Liberty, which includes personal and economic freedom, was the main
reason why the colonies decided to break away from the United Kingdom in the eighteenth century.
The U.S. went through many economic booms, various recessions, and several major economic
depressions throughout its history. Yet, here it is, mostly unscathed and in full glory, still
dominating the world stage in economic and foreign affairs. However, in the past two three
decades, the economic conditions have changed adversely, especially for the younger generations. It
is an undeniable fact that the consumer and labor markets have undergone tremendous adjustments,
partly due to people s changing lifestyles, as well as globalization. According to Janet Yellen , the

Geography And The World Of Geography
Before starting this course, I had a preconceived notion that I would learn about geographical
features and memorize places all around the world. I did not expect to learn about topics such as
globalization, political geography, or industries and services. I was surprised at what all we learned
in such a short period of time. I gained a new prospective and information about the world around
me. Throughout the semester, my understanding and knowledge about geographyhas drastically
changed from before this course. This course has made me think about topics and things that I
have never reflected upon. I have had this standard premonition of geography as just places or
maps, but there is so much more. I enjoyed learning about the different races, history of gender
equality, and religions of the world the most. Geography has influenced my political, social, and
economic views of the world. One of the topics in this course, geographies of languages, was one
that interested me in learning more. One of the reasons that it interested me was because I am a
Spanish major and I love learning new languages and cultures of the world. Languages are one of
the most complex, yet interesting social aspects of life. Without languages, we would have no way
to communicate, therefore we would not be a social society whatsoever. There were multiple facts
about the languages of the world I did not know about. One of them were the types of languages:

mission comes from the article A general model of organizational values in educational
administration : the phrase organizational values could be applied in reference to groups or
organizations, such values are thought of as being known, understood, and expressed in context of
the behavior and experience of individuals. (Mueller, 2014, pg.649) The reason why I picked this
quote is that it agree with the fact that people derive their workplace values from the behavior and
experiences of those that lead them. What this means is that the leader and their actions does
determine what the behaviors of the organization are. How this relates to the leadership of the
Englewood Fire Department modeling the values of its workers is through the behaviors of the
leader Chief Elmer Bergman. The chief has been a hard working yet optimistic man who tries to
not let the failures get to him instead using those experiences to learn and be better at his job.

Lower East Side Sociology
The Lower East Side formerly once joined with the East Village is home to many working class
families, many of whom are foreign born. Over the past 50 years, this neighborhood has gone
through many changes, both negative and positive. Located in Manhattan, the Lower East Side is
surrounded by 14th street, the East River, Bowery, and the Brooklyn Bridge. This area today has
faced gentrification and has also faced many housing developments that threaten the character of the
community. The LES has gone from once considered a slum to be one of the trendiest
neighborhoods today in New York City. One of the first groups that settled in the Lower East Side
in the 19th century were Germans. Due to the German immigration, the Lower East Side became...

The rise of juvenile delinquencies was at its highest between 1951 and 1960 in the Lower East
Side compared to all of the New York City neighborhoods (Mele, 2000, p.138). Heroin
contributed to the surge of crime in the LES and its use was very popular among the poor.
Crime was rampant in the LES and it was mostly evident around avenues east of Avenue B
where most Puerto Ricans lived. When the Puerto Ricans first entered the Lower East Side, they
became scapegoats to the LES s crime problem. They were labeled as criminals of the
neighborhood. Gang violence was very prominent and active which was due to common turf
wars between minority youth gangs (Mele, 2000). They were also blamed for the reappearance
and spread of the slum present already in the Lower East Side. By 1953, as Puerto Ricans in
migration peaked, slum committees were pressed to deal with the growing Puerto Rican problem
. To deal with the Puerto Rican problem , there was an urban renewal project put into place called

neighborhoods into other poor areas when they couldn t discourage Hispanic migration to the

The Benefits Of Learning Computers And Computer Science
One way in which computers and computer science has become so widespread is due to it being
easy to learn and integrate into schools. The basics of computer science can be learned fairly
quickly as the majority of computer programming is simple logic. It is so easy to learn that in
Tennessee schools have begun teaching student the basics of computerprogramming as early as the
third grade. This just goes to show how learning computer programmingcan be just as easily taught
as basic maths and sciences. Computer programming does not need to be limited to its own subject.
In Tennessee computer programming has been integrated into both its science and maths classes.
Through a simulation software called ViMap, third and fourth grade teachers were able to teach a
class on how butterflies adjust their behavior depending on their recent food consumption. This
shows that adults as well as children are able to learn and use computer programming skills in
order to benefit their lives.
The benefits of learning computer programming are not limited to using computer programming
itself. Another reason learning computer programming can be beneficial is the way computer
programming forces someone to think. Jeannette M. Wing, a consulting professor of computer
science at Carnegie Mellon University and a corporate vice president of Microsoft Research
believes that computational thinking is a fundamental skill every person should have.

In 1945 Kurt Vonnegut witnessed a horrific series of bombings that led to the destruction of the
German city of Dresden, where he was taken as a prisoner of war. The controversial fire storm raid,
carried out by bombers of the Royal Air Force and US Air Force, took casualties of up to a quarter

Although drastic presentations such as space and time travel potentially hinder the plausibility of
the storyline and detach the reader from the text, it is this exact element in Slaughterhouse Five that
returns the reader back into the story, bringing closer the relationship between the reader and
Vonnegut himself. In this sense, this experimental form of narrative creates another Chrono
Synclastic Infundibulum: a place in the novel where both the reader and the author coexist. With
this new form of storytelling Vonnegut commits himself to a novel that could possibly fail.
However he takes this risk in order to produce a novel that reflects his personal experiences more
closely than if he had abided with conventional styles. By inserting the readers and himself into the
novel, Vonnegut thus subjects the readers to his personal experiences more directly; the act of
reading Slaughterhouse Five becomes a simulation of Vonnegut s past in Dresden.
While Slaughterhouse Five was a novel intended to reflect Vonnegut s personal experiences in
Dresden, the delivery of the storyline suggests that the novel is anything but an autobiography.
Instead, with space and time travel placed into the novel without any scientific explanation
Slaughterhouse Five reads like a

Saudi Arabia Is A Monarchy Built On The Foundation Of Islam
Saudi Arabia is located in the region of the Middle East and North Africa with a population of
28.3 million people. Our government is conflicted in regards to a difficult position in the debate
over climate change and the proposal to limit our carbon omissions by 15 percent in the next five
years. Our country, Saudi Arabia, has the world s largest oil reservesand an economy exclusively
centered on the export of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are known to be the major drives of climate
change, thus causing a problematic deliberation for our government. Our country has an arid

Each province includes its own council that is responsible for advising the governor as well as
dealing with the development aspect of the province. As Saudi Arabia is an Islamic State, our
judicial system is based on Islamic Law, with our King being the highest court of appeal (Sims,

Although we believe limiting carbon omissions by 15 percent in the next five years will reduce
our oil exports and contribute to a catastrophic decline for our economy, we are willing to
consider should there be a national enforcement mechanism. We are willing to pursue international
initiatives to contest the issues of climate change, although we are one of the largest oil
producing countries. In order to comply, we demand reimbursement in case of a future offset in
losses in oil revenue. We as a country understand the effects of global warming and the fact that
our future is deteriorated because of it. However, many of our people do not recognize climate
change as an immense issue that needs to be addressed. Many often believe that our climate in
Saudi Arabia is tremendously hot already; there is no point in limiting our carbon omissions, as the
chance of lost revenue is present. Additionally, with a growing economy, we will not have the

Attending The Alcoholic Anonymous Meeting At Holy Trinity...
I chose to attend the Alcoholic Anonymous meeting at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church on the
north side of Chicago. I chose to visit a church because I wanted to see if there was a religious
aspect thrown into the session. The name of the session was called Big Book Stop Study. This
session occurs every Monday at 7:00pm, as an open meeting. The meeting lasted for an hour. The
session was led by three members, Kyle, Tamara, and Melissa. There was fourteen participants
within the group. I was very apprehensive about attending a meeting because I didn t want to be
seen as an alcoholic. For that very reason, I understand how hard it may be for some to admit to
their alcoholism, due to the negative connotation that comes with the name. To some, that may
seem like a short span of time. However, upon visiting this particular session I saw progression in
each participant. I was very pleased with what I witnessed as a visitor.
The session began with a moment of silence and a serenity prayer. Kyle read the protocol, preamble,
traditions, and outline for the night. He even identified 10 step promises that they understand as
promises that come with overcoming alcoholism. He explained everything that would occur, and
why it was chosen to occur. Kyle identified the different steps that are taken within the group to
recovery from alcohol. After learning about the agenda for the day, Kyle introduced himself while
everyone went around the table and introduced themselves. I noticed that while

Animal Pollution
The environment which we live in is polluted every single day. The carelessness of humans today is
further damaging the ecosystem in some ways, more identifiable than others. Factory farming is a
system of rearing livestock using intensive methods, by which poultry pigs, or cattle are confined
indoors under strictly controlled conditions (Merriam webster). The animals are forced into the
participation of the supply and demand through cities and towns. Many may be oblivious to the fact
that the animalindustry is a leading factor of pollution. The global movement of intense meat
production is negatively affecting climate changes, ocean pollution and the animal food chain.
The process of meat production is causing the earth s climate to unnaturally change. Factory farms
use a variety of toxic chemicals to feed, grow and execute the animals. One of the chemicals used
on factory farms is Carbon Dioxide. Burning fossil fuel (oil and gasoline) releases a considerable
amount of carbon dioxide. Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel, oil or natural gas,
formed from the remains of dead plants and animals. It takes, on average 11 times as much fossil
fuel to produce a calorie of animal protein as it does to produce a calorie of grain protein. In the
end, more carbon dioxide is released during the production of meat rather than the manufacturing of
vegetables and plants (Peta, p.1) Another toxic chemical that is often released into the atmosphere

Movie My Favorite Movie
I love watching movies. Their ability to transport you to another world for two hours and make
you care about people that aren t real is the most unrecognized form of magic. I m not a critic, so
any movie will do, as long as I m interested enough to watch it. Many movies stick in my mind,
whether it s a hilarious joke, an awesome fight scene, or simply a unique plot. There is one movie,
however, which stands out among them all. A filmI had never heard of before viewing called
Prisoners. From start to finish, I was invested in the characters and their goals. I felt their fear and
desperation. I was in the movie, not sitting on my living room couch. The movie Prisoners was
suspenseful, chilling, and memorable, so there is no doubt in my mindthat it is my favorite movie,
and I will likely remember it for the rest of my life. The backbone of any good movie is the story.
The story is the rope that the movie uses to drag you in, to make you feel for the characters, to
make you more than a simple movie viewer. Prisoners was about Keller Dover, an average man
with a teenage son and a young daughter. They have friends down the street, another family just
like them. Life isn t perfect, but it s far from anything worth complaining about. Then. the
unthinkable happens. The young girl goes missing. From that moment on, both the police and
Keller search for her, but they use methods that are drastically different from each other. This poses
a question to the audience: How far would you go for the people you love? The way the movie
portrayed the desperation of Mr. Dover and the detective assigned to the case was perfect. As
time went on, doubt and fear began to take over the minds of everyone involved. As they mystery
was slowly unraveled, many twists and turns prevented the solution from being obvious. I was
constantly thinking about what might have happened, and I was still nowhere near to close. The
emotions felt by everyone who feared for this innocent girl and wondered where she was exploded
on the TV screen. It was suspenseful, heart wrenching, and everything you could want from a
movie. Truly, an excellent story propelled Prisoners into my mind and my heart, more than earning
my favor. Besides a great storyline,

The global sales growth of natural products in 2014 was almost 10% (Klineblogs, 2015). Whole
Foods stores continue to provide natural healthcare and beauty products which serves to not only
provide for the needs of current customers but may offer incentive to bring more buyers into the

store fronts in Canada and the United Kingdom bring the total international store count to 19 as of
October 2015 (Whole Foods, 2015). Branching into international territories offers increased brand
recognition and awareness. Providing localized offerings and increasing awareness of natural
products creates brand attention in geographic markets that were previously untouched. This raises
brand exposure and identification which greatly increases the potential for market gains. Opening
operations creates diversification of business risk to a small degree. The stores in Canada and the

One very famous director which has earned the right to be titled an Auteur is Quentin Tarantino.
Tarantino writes, directs and sometimes even acts in his own films and specialises in action as
well as adventure. A majority of his films are all from the top of his head and they usually
consist a lot of blood, gore and violence. He intends to use the same characters in more than one
film, for example he uses Uma Thurman as his leading lady in more than one movie and another
example would be Samuel L. Jackson who he casted in Pulp Fiction (1994) and Django
Unchained (2012). Another technique from Tarantino would be the colour, font and pictures
within his film posters. Most of his action film posters use a lot of red in the title with big bold
font to make the typo stand out, he also uses a lot of red in the foreground or the background of his
posters to symbolise the amount of bloodshed in
The film lastly would be the props that he uses, usually a weapon and normally a gun or sword.
Tarantino always uses the same fundamental themes and techniques in order to print his signature
on his work. Most of his films narratives consist of the theme of racism and the rational and
continues use of the N word, the overuse of foul language and the cinematography of his mise en
scene including the position of the camera, his tracking techniques and his long takes.

Character Analysis Of The Pit And The Pendulum
The Pit and the Pendulum Character Analysis Essay Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum
uses horror and suspicion to build up not only the storyline, but the persona of the narrator in
which is also the prisoner. The characteristics of the prisoner ties within the story to create trippy
feelings of fearand unassertiveness of whether or not he is truly safe. From the trials that the
prisoner has faced, his characteristic of resourcefulness, pessimistic, and terror are revealed and
play a salient part of his slick escape. The prisoner exemplifies resourcefulness which is shown
through his actions of survival. Despite his unstableness, he still manages to remain clever in
such a frightening situation. Poe asserts that the prisoner is resourceful considering he uses the
hem of his robe to plot out his area: I tore a part of the hem from the robe, and placed the
fragment at full length, and at right angles to the wall. In groping my way around the prison, I
could not fail to encounter this rag upon completing the circuit. (Poe 3). Being that he uses his
resources to find his way around the tomb, he learns that he is among a treacherous pit which
could mean death. This action alters the whole course of the story due to the possibility of the
prisoner falling into the pit. The prisoner continues to show signs of resourcefulness in the
toughest situations: Observing that I remained without motion, one or two of the boldest leaped
upon the frame work and smelt at the surcingle. This seemed the signal for a general rush. Forth
from the well they hurried in fresh troops. They clung to the wood, they overran it, and leaped in
hundreds upon my person. (Poe 8). Using the rats as a pathway to his freedom from the pendulum,
his quick thinking saved his life. With that being said, the prisoner uses his traits of resourcefulness
to escape without letting fear block his tactics. Poe reveals the prisoners aspect of showing
pessimistic traits through his thoughts of seeing the worst outcome of events. The prisoner states,
It was not that I feared to look upon things horrible, but that I grew aghast lest there should be
NOTHING to see. At length, with a wild desperation at heart, I quickly unclosed my

Terrace House Fire Essay
Following the tragic event of the great fire of London in 1666, the legislation regarding new
buildings in the metropolis became stricter and several laws and measures addressed fire
prevention issues. Many of these guidelines were changed several times over the years following
various building acts. Apart from the obvious benefits on fire protection, the legislation formed to
a large extent the streetscapes and vistas in the neighbourhoods of the capital and other cities in
the 18th and 19th centuries onwards. Building acts and by laws did not just deal with structural
issues; on the contrary they were often mostly focused on health and sanitation issues that were
vital in the Victorian period. Ensuring more available free spaces, decent living conditions,
constructions of good quality, ventilation and natural lighting were very significant issues that
were not considered as given at the time. Features that appear to be typical for terrace houses
came as a result of different chapters in building acts and also appear for the two case studies we

William Shakespeare s Jabberwocky And Lear s Limericks...
When everything in our reality seems like unreal, it can be difficult to distinguish between sense
and nonsense. Everyday we seem to read another tragic headline about people getting assaulted
for being their true selves, countries being torn apart because of hate and intolerance and
innocent children getting killed in the crossfire. The frightening part is when these horrors that
never make any sense become normal to us. It begs the question, has the world gone mad or
have we? Growing up can be a difficult and confusing experience for all. As we grow older and
realize the world is more than what is right in front of us. We ask questions to try and make
sense of the world as we grow from the simplicity of childhood to the complications of adulthood.
As we mature, our perceptions of the world change drastically. A child s closed off world view is
challenged as he begins to ask questions and explore. What seemed simple before is much more
intricate now. The use of nonsensein both Carroll s Jabberwockyand Lear s limericks from The
Book of Nonsense force us to challenge nonsensical situations so we can grow and adjust to the
harsh realities of our world by realizing that things are not always what they seem. Both authors do
this effectively through the absence of meaning and the use of juxtaposition.
The absence of meaning in both Carroll and Lear s poems is significant, even though it may seem
like the opposite. When reading these poems for the first time, the reader may be

potassium and chloride cotransporters in the loop of Henle and distal tubules. Lasix causes
rapid diuresis, decreasing vascular volume, increased urinary excretion and decreased cardiac
output and blood pressure (Adams Urban, 2016). The routes that Lasix is supplied are, PO, IV

The research question that I am interested in answering is whether a combined prolonged
exposure (PE) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) approach is useful in treating veterans
with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The ideal study would include four groups: one to
receive PE, one to receive CPT, one to receive both PE and CPT, and one that does not receive an
intervention. The groups would consist of an equal 50/50 male to female ratio (half of the
participants would be male, half would be female) to control for gender. The participants would be
contacted based on information gathered about veterans with PTSDby the local U.S. Department of
Veteran s Affairs offices in Orange County, California.
In this scenario, the independent variable is the type of treatment and the values are the treatment
groups. The dependent variables are the patient s measurable PTSD symptoms, including frequency
of dissociative reactions, recurrent distressing dreams, negative alterations in cognitions and mood,
and marked alterations in arousal and reactivity (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The
demographic variables in this study are age and ethnicity. The control variables are gender,

Reflective Essay On Shutter Island
Dennis Lehane s novel, Shutter Island (2010), is about a man that was living one life when in
reality he was living a totally different life. Many times, people as well as leaders are living a life
in their mind that maybe different from what actions they are carrying out or what others think
of them. A method to determine if you are performing to the level you believe you believe you
are is to have the opinion of others. For example, you may look in a mirror and see yourself and
you appear great, when someone sees you they notice the hair you cannot see is out of place.
Without their feedback, or notification, you would be unware of the messed up hair you cannot see
from where you look. Getting feedback from others at your level, above your lever, and below your
level will give you what is called 360 degree feedback. (Heathfield, 2017). National College for
School Leadership gives us a tool to use giving us a chance to receive 360 degree feedback to
determine if our image matches what others see.

When I took the first discovery questionnaire I reflected on what image or metaphor I would use
to describe myself. One image that kept coming to mind was one of rescuer. I have this image of
myself that I am here to save everyone that I can. This is not true only of my personal life trying
to save my parents, spouse, kids, and grandchild from harm and hurt but also in my professional
life. Being a leader I feel I have to try to save others from the damaging effects of criticism. So, in
an ideal world I would be able to protect everyone. I have even been referred to at work as a mother
hen trying to protect others from making a mistake. During the second discovery, I was slightly
surprised in how I saw myself compared to how others see me not only as a coworker but also as a
spouse and a friend. First, as stated above, I considered myself a protector wanting to prevent
others from making mistakes I have made. My family agreed that I am a protector but also a
provider, I was somewhat surprised when I got a review from a coworker that felt I was
untrusting and overshadowing. I had to reflect on that for a while to value the feedback they were

Nirvana In Hinduism
The ultimate goal of Buddhism is to reach the state of
Nirvana. Nirvana is a conceptual state in which one has realized his or her oneness with the

Quiet Title Action Case Study
We ve already talked about what easements are and how they affect your property as well as how
to create one, but there s one more major issue that we haven t covered. In some instances, you may
need to terminate a real estate easement. Is it possible?
The simple answer to the question is yes, it is possible under certain circumstances.
Some easements have been in place for many, many years. In this case, it could be effective to
institute a lawsuit known as a Quiet Title Action. This is an action that can be initiated in order to
quiet the title and remove or terminate the easements. This is a good method to try when the
property is old, the description of the property is old, there s never been title insurance, and some
of the boundaries are described as fence lines that belong to property owned by neighbors. The

museums were created for the purpose of preservation and interpretation of the material culturethey

In Big Black Good Man , the author, Richard Wright, describes how the good black man, Jim, is a
different man from the impression the porter, Olaf, has of him. Olaf thinks that Jim is a black,
suspicious, good for nothing, and dangerous man, while Jim is a very nice, gentle, and grateful man.
Jim is a black, six and a half foot tall sailor seeking a room from Olaf, a porter who is five feet
seven inches. On their first encounter, Olaf has a stereotypical notion about Jim because of his race
and stature. He does not want to give Jim a room. To Olaf, the man s intense skin tone and size is
an insult to him. Meanwhile, the big black good man seems to be a good man from the start. He
is cordial in their conversation, nice and trustworthy, and he answers politely. The black good man
is a man of trust, judging from him entrusting two thousand six hundred dollars in a stranger s hand
without any documentation. He is an amiable man, refusing to let Olaf carry his bag, because he
believes it is too heavy for him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He asks him how long he intends staying, evidently wanting to do away with him as soon as he
can. He proves his discrimination in every aspect of their encounter by referring to him as an
inanimate object, a thing, a wild or dangerous animal, and a giant that can be violent. Olaf also
makes derogatory statements that are extremely discriminating. Olaf s prejudice is also very
obvious in the sense that he has difficulty obliging his request for a woman companion. Olaf
believes that no woman will be able to handle Jim. So Olaf warned Lena, the prostitute, about Jim
and how big he is, even questioning her on her way home. Meanwhile Jim appears to be a kind
and very gentle man. Otherwise Lena would not have seen him for those 6 days. Jim and Lena
even continued their relationship by writing to each other, and Jim even learns where she lives on

A Comparison Of A Doubt And Strangers On A Train
In Shadow of A Doubt, the audience is hit with a thriller about Young Charlie who shares the name
of her favorite uncle, whom she has a special bond with. She feels that her handsome uncle is the
only one that understands her and makes her feel bigger than the small town she lives in. However,
when Uncle Charlie arrives, things start changing between the two Charlies. A series of unusual
clues connecting to the Merry Widow Murderer are very similar to her Uncle Charlie and his nice,
charming, loving behavior changes to something more sinister. Young Charlie starts to find out that
her charming uncle that she loves very dearly is not what he seems to be. While feeling broken, she

Strangers on A Train, Bruno and Guy, are two men who are supposedly total opposites. This is
very similar to the two Charlies in Shadow of a Doubt. They share the same message, while both
of the characters in both stories are linked to the world of darkness and death. Just like Shadow of
a Doubt, there are two women wearing glasses and a pair of drinks that are doubles. In the
beginning of the story, it had its moments of doubling. It also shares the theme of psychological and
sexual pathologies, stated in The Art of Alfred Hitchcock. The idea of the Guy Bruno homosexual
engagement is daring for its time. This helps the narrative s broader reference of the theme of two
aspects of one personality. Guy didn t share the feelings Bruno had for Guy. Bruno came across as
obsessed. This is different from Shadow of a Doubt, but the psychological idea was there. The two
men symbolize balancing features of human

Self-Determination in the Basque Country Essay examples
Self Determination in the Basque Country
The Basques, settled on the Franco Spanish border, are a people who do not have a country that
exists as an entity of its own. They are not recognized internationally. Their borders are not
respected, and their culture is repressed. Thus the history of the Basque Country is one of
contentious protest against imposed conditions, unremitting effort in defense of its identity and a
relentless search for a means of democratizing public life. They have not been able to practice or
pursue the right to self determination as stated in the international covenants on human rights

One could be shot for speaking the language or gathering in small numbers. Torture was also very
common with at least 100 cases reported annually and these numbers hold to present day. However
in recent years, through the medium of Basque at private language schools known as ikastolaks,
progress has been slow, but constant. Nevertheless, the number of individuals who use it daily or
at least have a working knowledge of language are still sadly disproportionate. (Astrain)
Although the language is slowly being reintroduced to communities, repression continues because
they do not enjoy any political unity, but rather an excess of political institutions and functions.
Therefore, the Basques are deeply dissatisfied with both their lack of territorial unity and the
inferior status of their language, as well as frustrated by the lack of a more participatory democracy.
It is said that, The Basques on either side of the Franco Spanish border vote in elections for no
fewer than a dozen different institutions, (Astrain 6). They want to maintain their cultural integrity
and be able to decide their own future, but this is increasingly difficult when there is no cohesion.
Furthermore, the Basque Country has never been taken into consideration

Attachment Theory Paper
Attachment Style and Romantic Relationships Research Paper Attachment theory has been of
interest to many fields of study, from psychology to ethology, even biology and evolution. The
developmental implications of the theory can be applied to different personalities, why we actively
seek partners or long term relationships, or simply to explain why an infant may cry when its
mother leaves the room. Although the initial implications were intended to explain the response of
children when separated from their caregivers, research has proven its application to adult
relationships, showing patterns of behavior based on attachment theoryterminology. This paper
explores the different aspects in which attachment theory is applied in adult relationships, such as
finding a partner, predictability, and evolutionary purpose of caring for offspring. This paper also
analyzes the spiritual application of attachment theory, and what it means to have a secure
attachment with God.

The name suggests the purpose of this theory, Bowlby wanted to explain the bonds infants
develop with a primary caregiver as well as the previously mentioned negative reactions or distress
in their separation with them (Hazan Shaver, 1987). Bowlby observed that in separation, an infant
will go through a series of predictable emotional reactions, such as protest, despair, and detachment
(Hazan Shaver, 1987). In protest, the child may actively search for their mother, cry, and resist any
attempts of comfort from others. In despair, the infant shows passivity and sadness. Finally, in
detachment, the child may seem defensive and can be avoidance of the mother when and if she

To make this treat you will need, a small bowl and hand mixer or standing mixer, one cup

I personally have chosen graham crackers and pretzels.
First, using the small bowl and hand mixer, you will need to mix together the butter and
cream cheese for about two minutes or until fluffy. Then you add in the brown sugar, powdered
sugar, salt and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly. Now using the spoon or spatula you will fold in
the chocolate chips. Your dish should now be ready to be served. If you are preparing in
advance, you will need to refrigerate until time to serve. It must return to room temperature
before serving.
Cookie dough dip is a fun way to spend time with family, or even a quick dish to throw

assata shakur
Brandon Ross September 3, 2014 Africana Studies, SP12 Assata Shakur Paper Assata Shakur is
a very strong and determined individual that refused to give up her beliefs and ideas to receive
her freedom. When she was incarcerated, treated like an animal, beaten to a bloody pulp and
lost all basic human rights, she only grew more stronger and determined. Shakur was a political
prisoner and suffered because of her Black Panther Black Liberation Army affiliation. She spent
six years in prison for crimes that she was not proven to have done or had any connection to.
Most people would have given up and sold out to get their freedom back, she didn t because she
simply took it back! Shakur s life changed dramatically on the night of... Show more content on

Her time in the hospital became better as her body healed and the abuse from the officers
stopped. A short time later Shakur was transported from the hospital to Middlesex County jail. It
seemed like the middle of the night...A wheelchair was waiting for me. I figured they were
taking me to jail said Shakur describing the experience. (Assata 45) Shakur s status as a political
activist would affect her greatly in prison. The federal authorities wanted Shakur isolated from
all the other prisoners because they did not want her to spread her radical ideas to any of the
other prisoners which could possibly result in a revolt. Her cell was isolated from all the other
prisoners and was patrolled by guards at all times. In prison, Shakur was subjected to the
nihilistic ideas that she encountered on the outside. During this time blacks were treated as lower
class citizens. Society wanted to keep African Americans in the same ghettos and isolate us from
the nicer neighborhoods (domestic colonialism). They did this by racial profiling (Assata Shakur
s arrest on the turnpike), police highly populating certain areas and raising prices to live in certain
areas. These methods create a sense of self worthlessness inside of a person which often lead to
crime. This trend often leads to African Americans being arrested and incarcerated. Once in prison,
the system has now taken the little power that the person once had (the right to vote, speak etc.)

What Is The Communist Manifesto
The Communist Manifesto
The communist Manifesto is the author s way of interpreting the goals of Communism, as well as
the theory underlying this movement. Two major points of the manifesto explain how class
relationships are defined by an era s means of production. Also, the manifesto incorporates how
class struggles, or exploitation of one class by another, are motivating force behind all historical
developments. If those two points are not followed then a revolution occurs and a new class
emerges as the ruling one. This outcome represents the march of history which is driven by
economic variables. The Manifesto argues that this development is inevitable, and the capitalism is
inherently unstable. Elimination of social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the reading was worth my time. Most readings that I am forced to read do not peak my
interest. This work on the other hand was enjoyable because it was filled with information
regarding the work of communism. This book has to be considered one of many famous literary
works. It is hard to argue that the text is not worth reading. I don t believe in the ideas expressed
in the text, but I respect the impact that the novel has had on society. Communism was viewed as
such a scary topic for most of history and it was interesting to read about it. I am not sure why the
author came up with these ideas. I do know that he was the basis for the idea of communism. It is
hard to say that the author did not contribute to my understanding of the topic because if he did not,
then I would be considered an idiot. It is almost like getting a basketball lesson from Michael
Jordon and not improving your game. The way in which the text was represented made it easy to
understand. The four section format was broken down in a way so it had easy access. The most
important thing that I obtained from the text is how much I am proud to be an American. I love
the form of government that we have. A democracy is something that I am proud to be apart of. It
also makes me proud of our government that we went out to stop the spread of communism. All

The, By Vilhelm Moberg
Willie, a mere boy, swelled with superiority as he contemplated the hilarity of those silly old
folks, fooled by an owl and believing in ghosts.4 The belief in the Sinkhole spöke possibly lived
on beyond the sighting of the owl, as old timers recalled stories of jötunn, the ancient Norse race
of giants, with their powers of shape changing and their inclination for trickery. If they could
change into wolves, as they did in the Norse tales, they certainly could transform into an owl.5 In
his two volume history of the Swedish people, the eminent writer Vilhelm Moberg, relates that
during his childhood in SmГҐland, an isolated and backward province, he met elders that not only
believed in fairies, but actually saw them.6 Willie probably encountered similar mind sets, since
his birth occurred seven year prior to Vilhelm Moberg s and numerous people from SmГҐland
immigrated to east central Minnesota.7 Willie normally concluded the telling of the Sinkhole
spöke tale with a prideful proclamation, My generation was the first modern generation. My
generation was the first not to believe in that stuff. 8 Egged on by the allure of the Sinkhole spöke
tales and not willing to be a passive bystander, Willie stepped into the scene alongside the spöke
and attempted to harass and frighten the gullible adults. After capturing fireflies and coated his
thumbnails with their natural luminescent substance, he lurked on the edge of the Sinkhole road
waiting for unsuspecting travelers.

The Cultures Of The French And The Micmac Indians
When Europeans encountered the Native Americans, the encounter was fraught with difficulties for
both sides, for the Native Americans more so than the Europeans. Europeans conquered the Native
Americans, forced them into labor, and spread diseases which the Native Americans had no
resistance to. In addition to this the Europeans considered themselves superior to the Native
Americans. Despite this, the Europeans and Native Americans, both had things the other wanted
and so they often engaged in trade with each other. However, the Native Americans thought that,
despite not having the luxuries the Europeans had, they were better off than the Europeans. This
sentiment is exemplified in Your People Live Only Upon Cod by French priest Chrestian LeClerq
who was traveling with the Micmac Indians. It is a documented response by an unknown Micmac
leader to European, particularly French, claims of superiority. In analyzing this document, we will
find that the cultures of the French and the Micmac were vastly different. We will also discover
what the Micmac and the French thought of each other. To begin, we must first talk about the
various comparisons that the Micmac chief makes in Your People Live Only Upon Cod . The first
comparison is that of the living arrangements and the differences between the French and the
Micmac when it came to this. According to the Micmac chief the French had ...houses of stone and
of wood which are tall and lofty... , but he questions why they need such

was verbally abusive to a manager who was criticising his quality of work. As a Union
representative, this report outlines and addresses the role of union, the rights of the employees in
this case, and the dispute resolution process, which will include negotiation, mediation, conciliation

In this case, the rights of the casual worker were breached by his manager in the workplace and
those rights were Anti Discrimination and Unfair Dismissal which are considered as legal
workplace rights of employees. This report also addresses the ten minimum National Employment
Standards which are rights that are entitled to employees. This report also lists the rights of a
Casual worker as the employee is a Casual worker.
This report also addresses the dispute resolution process and different steps to solve a the dispute
between two parties. Those steps are known as Negotiation, Mediation, Conciliation and
Arbitration. Most of these steps require a third party who helps in offering advice or examining
the dispute within the workplace or making an agreement for two parties to agree on. There are
some disadvantages in the process of these steps and they can end up in a failure to resolve the
dispute and if that happens, then the two parties move onto the next step.

Various Accounts of The Arthurian
Legend
Morgaine speaks.... In my time I have been called many things: sister, lover, priestess, wise woman,
queen. So begins Marion Zimmer Bradley s account of the Arthurian legend, which places unusual
emphasis on the character of Morgaine, otherwise known as Morgan Le
Fay. But who exactly is Morgan and how does she vary in the different accounts of the
Arthurian legend? In order to assess how Morgan Le Fay is depicted throughout history, it is first
important to establish who she is and what part she plays in the legend. Five different texts:

The original full retelling of the Arthur story, Monmouth s The History of the
Kings of Britain, has few female characters. Morgan Le Fay is once such decided absence.
Not only does she play no part whatsoever in the legend, but she is never even mentioned.
Mordred, who is often her son by an incestuous relationship with Arthur, is instead the son of Anna
and her husband, Loth, the King of Lothian. Anna is as close as Monmouth gets to a Morgan like
character. She is the sister of Arthur, and daughter of Igraine and Uther.
She gives birth to Mordred, who is the means by which Arthur s death comes about, and
Gawain, one of Arthurs most loyal and trusted knights. Le Morte D Arthurby Malory shows an
entirely different perspective as to the role and person of Morgan Le Fay in the Arthurian legend.
She is one of Arthur s three sisters, the others being Morgause and Elaine. Morgause marries King
Lot of Lothian and has four sons including Gawaine while Elaine marries King Nentis. Arthur has
an incestuous relationship with Morgause and she gives birth to Mordred. Meanwhile
Morgan is continually conspiring against Arthur in an attempt to avenge his father s poor treatment
of Igraine. Morgan steals Arthur s sword Excalibur and gives it to her lover
Accolon, who challenges Arthur so that he might become High King. Accolon is fatally wounded.
Morgan also attempts to sabotage Arthur s knights several times. Mort Artu, a

The Beauty of the Mundane in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary, it is difficult to know what to think of Monsieur Binet and
his lathe. His constant devotion to such an unrewarding pursuit would seem to act as the bourgeois
backdrop to Emma Bovary s quest for eternal passion and excitement, a polar opposite with which
Emma can stand in sharp contrast. However, it turns out that Binet and his lathe have more in
common with Emma and her rampant desires than what would first appear obvious. Binet s lathe
still serves as a background with which to compare Emma s quest for love and riches, but instead
of acting as a complete antithesis to everything she does, the lathe is meant to be subtly different ...

In this one sentence Flaubert not only gives example of how the works are repetitive, with
similar plots, and dying horses on every page, but he also manages to capture the clichГ©d,
melodramatic style of romance novels that makes them all seem the same. The repetitiveness
extends into real life as well, as Emma s love affairs constantly lose their fire and begin to
become routine, or, as Rodolphe notes, the charm of novelty, falling down slowly like a dress,
expose[s] only the eternal monotony of passion, always the same forms and the same language
(154).
The feeling of superiority that the lathe gives Binet fits more obviously with Emma s action and
character. He uses his lathe with the jealousy of an artist and the egoism of a bourgeois (60). He
feels that his craftsmanship and dedication to the lathe make him superior to those deprived souls
that do not have one. We see these feelings firsthand when Binet suggests to Leon that he should
take up the lathe as a solution to his problems. When Leon admits that he knows nothing about
lathes, Binet replies That is true, and strok[es] his chain, with a look that mingle[s] disdain and
satisfaction (94). The lathe fulfills Binet s bourgeois

  • 3. Australian Government Intervention Australia s government has helped to intervene within the market when issues have arisen. The more efficient allocation of resources and income is an initiative designed to assist the society. Unfortunately, it can also cause costs to the community and market which can be seen from side effects of their policies. The tight and loose monetary policies that are used can cause unemployment and inflation which are both a cost for the economy. The government also imposes tariffs which causes unfairness for consumers. One benefit of government intervention in Australia is the more efficient allocation of resources in the market. Australia s current policy for this reallocation of resources is to take money from select industries using taxes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tight monetary policy is used by the government to reduce the level of economic activity. They do this by creating upward pressure on interest rates and reducing the money supply. The high interest rates would reduce the demand of money therefore dampening consumer and investor spending. The drop in aggregate demand would reduce inflation but causes an increased rate of unemployment which is a cost to society. On the other hand, a loose monetary policy is the complete opposite where the government is trying to increase the level of economic supply. This increases inflation for the economy. AKH Group has a history of being in business for the last 35 years and it is almost mandatory for such an established business to work for community development. Therefore, as a consultant I would like to suggest the following road map for the purpose of achieving the goals of community development spend its resources constructively for skill developmentand Primary health. Strategic options: Community Development is a process strengthening the society in which an organisation operates with the aim of enhancing the mental and physical capacity of people to enable them to serve the society in a better way. At last, hygienic environment should be maintained to keep their employees free from any kind of ailments. Cultural Aspects: Culture is something which cannot be ignored while implementing any kind of strategies in any kind of organisation. This is because if any organisation ignores the cultural aspect of any given community then the chance for its survival reduces to minimum. Therefore, before spending such huge sums on nation building a thorough study of the cultures and the sub cultures relating to the particular community is an absolute necessity to ensure its successful implementation. This is particularly because in case a skill development programme requires all the ladies to work for longer shifts in order to enhance their capabilities but in a particular culture women are not allowed to work after dark then in that case such a development programme cannot be implemented because such a policy is against the norms of that culture. Therefore, any organisation should be most careful while studying the culture of a particular community because it is its most sensitive part particularly in a country like India. Economy: Economic situation of a country and the organisation opting for such developmental programmes is of utmost importance. First and the foremost aim of any business is its survival. (http://www.radiolab.org/story/91518 goat on a cow/) 02, April, 1941 Well, mom, I hope you don t mind me calling you this.... H holy...did you notice that? What...? Eleanor shouts. You you you you must look at that! There was a a I craned my head towards where Eleanor pointed, but I couldn t catch a glimpse of what made her so excited. I turned my head back to watch the road carefully, annoyed by her sudden outburst. She continued to stutter, overwhelmed with astonishment, P P Peter, we should turn around! While shaking my arm, Eleanor shifted until her entire body was supported by her foot, and extended her entire left arm towards the back. There is... she lets out a burst... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My husband has written much about how much of an inspiration you are to him and his fellow troops... Moving closer to Eleanor, I read the letter over her shoulder. 13th, March, 1941 Even though the letter was from the 1940s, and there were many documentations of that time, my mind was filled with awe of the historical relevance these letters could hold. These letters could be a gateway to tens or hundreds of minds of women and men who have personal experience with World War II. These letters were an entryway into the lives of those who had gone through years and years of strife, of conflict. These letters give insight into the lost shadows of people from the past, letting us forever memorialize and treasure their memories. I shout, completely disregarding the goat, who lurches with fright, and flees into the thin trees in the distance. We must gather these notes! Eleanor looks up with wide eyes, and nods jerkily in response. Stooping along the sides of the road, we maniacally collect tens, and later hundreds of letters filled with personal accounts of the past, which framed at least a small part of this world to what it finally evolved into. We are so lucky. Afterwards, a run back to my car, and grabbing a plastic bag which I fill my letters, I feel alive. 1912! 1937! 1897! Eleanor screams out ecstatically. As time drags from minutes to hours, Eleanor and I comb along the side of the road until we can find no more letters. However, I am mournful, knowing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Music, Customs, And Lighting The live performance I decided to go and see was called Celebrating 20 Old New Borrowed Blue. This production was put up by the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company also known as MET dance. During this production, there were four different choreographic works, Stirring Simple Gifts in Shades of Blue , A Tribute to the Jazz Man called Steven Boyd Tribute, Air , and lastly New Second Line (2006). All four of these works were equally great, but the two that significantly stuck out to me were Air and the New Second Line (2006) . Throughout this paper, I will delve to describe the different type of elements amongst the two different works of art, for example, choreography, music, customs, and lighting. Air was uniquely put together; the audience was able to see the choreographer s concept very clearly. Before this choreographic works were presented, there was a lady that came on the intercom providing us with safety instructions as if we were on a plane getting ready to take off. This signified the attention to which this performance was accorded. Once the curtain opened and the dancers began to enter the stage, everything started to take place. The dancers entered in unison though in a line from a far right entrance to the corner that was open seemingly to give attention to the theme. Though early, I noticed that the exit was different from the entrance as it was on the opposite side somehow in line with the movement of an airplane. The background for this piece was ... Disability In The Workplace Essay For this assignment, I decided to assess and identify how a place in the community can enable or hinder participation for people experiencing disability in my workplace, Sportchek east. I was curious to see how my workplace compared to the standards towards helping to enable the experience of someone experiencing a disability. Sportchek is a company that sells athletic wear and sports equipment. At the beginning of this assignment, I thought that Sportchek was, for the most part, accessible. But I was incorrect and naive in my assumption. Facility Exterior Transportation Since Sportchek is attached to a mall, Regina s public transit system does have a stop located on the side of the mall and a stop behind as well. • 10. Argumentative Paper Euthanasia Should Euthanasia be legalized? Because of remarkable advances in medical technology pharmacology that can artificially prolong a patient s life, the field of medical ethics has been confronted with a new controversy: the legalization of euthanasia and physician assisted suicide. The word Euthanasia comes from the Greek word for eus which means godly or well, and thanathos which literally means death (F.A. Davis Company, 2001, p. 476). Before its contemporary use, the word euthanasia meant a peaceful, quiet way to depart from earth. However, in modern times, this concept has sparked an incredible controversy. Today, the word euthanasia also commonly, but wrongfully, used for the practices of physician assisted suicide (PAS).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Literally the oath reads ...that I will exercise my art solely for the cure of my patients, and will give no drug, perform no operation for a criminal purpose, even if solicited, far less suggested (North, 2002). In addition, they assert, that euthanasia and PAS violates their principals of nonmaleficence (the belief of not inflicting harm on an individual) (Beauchamp Childress, 1989, p. 194) and beneficence (positive acts of preventing harm, removing harm, and promoting good) (1989, p. 121). Additionally they claim that such crucial end of life decisions can be reduced by proper and suitable palliative care, and efficient pharmaceutical pain management (Hendin, 2004, p. 9). Opponents of euthanasia and PAS also maintain that the sanctity of life overrules the right to personal freedom and choice. Religion and cultural background play a major role in those attitudes. Some claim that the concept that an individual has a right to die is rejected on the basis that death is inevitability, not a right (Ledger, 2007, p. 81). Others quote the six commandment of the Christian faith that states thou shall not kill (murder) (Exodus 20:6). Christians believe that human life is sacred. The Catechism of the Catholic Church number 2281 denounces the act of suicide as a contradiction to the natural inclination of the human being to preserve and perpetuate his life (Catholic Online, 2008). • 13. Article Review of VoIP Definition and Solution VoIP Technology This essay evaluates an analysis presented in an article discussing voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) technology. The article, VoIP Definition and Solutions, written by PCWorld and CIO author and editor Thomas Wailgum, describes how VoIP works, its capabilities and its applications. The article examined the treatment of VoIP topics including its definition, objectives, systems and solutions. The term voice over IP refers to a technology that carries voice calls over an IP network by digitizing and packetizing voice streams. Closely related to IP telephony and Internet telephony, VoIP technology allows analog communications to be routed over data networks that include wide area networks (WANs), local area networks (LANs), and the Internet. Combining voice and data on one network can offer the Army potential telecommunications savings and efficiencies, but there are challenges that come with maintaining network capability, reliability, flexibility and security. Callers connect to VoIP technology in three ways. One method uses a regular telephone, along with a fast Internet connection, and for the individual soldier placing a call, an analog telephone adapter or ATA. The ATA converts analog voice signals into digital packets of data to be sent over the Internet. This application of VoIP technology is easy to set up and use, and is frequently used by VoIP consumers. The Army, which has many users on traditional telephones, would need to use a specialized ... Since 1776, the year when the thirteen original colonies ratified the Constitution, three cornerstone ideas have been the drivers of the country s progress Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness. Found in the Declaration of Independence, which was written by Thomas Jefferson, these three concepts have been crucial in the lives of all Americans throughout the existence of this nation. Liberty, which includes personal and economic freedom, was the main reason why the colonies decided to break away from the United Kingdom in the eighteenth century. The U.S. went through many economic booms, various recessions, and several major economic depressions throughout its history. Yet, here it is, mostly unscathed and in full glory, still dominating the world stage in economic and foreign affairs. However, in the past two three decades, the economic conditions have changed adversely, especially for the younger generations. I did not expect to learn about topics such as globalization, political geography, or industries and services. I was surprised at what all we learned in such a short period of time. I gained a new prospective and information about the world around me. Throughout the semester, my understanding and knowledge about geographyhas drastically changed from before this course. This course has made me think about topics and things that I have never reflected upon. I have had this standard premonition of geography as just places or maps, but there is so much more. I enjoyed learning about the different races, history of gender equality, and religions of the world the most. Geography has influenced my political, social, and economic views of the world. One of the topics in this course, geographies of languages, was one that interested me in learning more. One of the reasons that it interested me was because I am a Spanish major and I love learning new languages and cultures of the world. Languages are one of the most complex, yet interesting social aspects of life. Without languages, we would have no way to communicate, therefore we would not be a social society whatsoever. • 20. The Benefits Of Learning Computers And Computer Science One way in which computers and computer science has become so widespread is due to it being easy to learn and integrate into schools. The basics of computer science can be learned fairly quickly as the majority of computer programming is simple logic. It is so easy to learn that in Tennessee schools have begun teaching student the basics of computerprogramming as early as the third grade. This just goes to show how learning computer programmingcan be just as easily taught as basic maths and sciences. Computer programming does not need to be limited to its own subject. In Tennessee computer programming has been integrated into both its science and maths classes. Through a simulation software called ViMap, third and fourth grade teachers were able to teach a class on how butterflies adjust their behavior depending on their recent food consumption. This shows that adults as well as children are able to learn and use computer programming skills in order to benefit their lives. The benefits of learning computer programming are not limited to using computer programming itself. Another reason learning computer programming can be beneficial is the way computer programming forces someone to think. Jeannette M. Wing, a consulting professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University and a corporate vice president of Microsoft Research believes that computational thinking is a fundamental skill every person should have. Although drastic presentations such as space and time travel potentially hinder the plausibility of the storyline and detach the reader from the text, it is this exact element in Slaughterhouse Five that returns the reader back into the story, bringing closer the relationship between the reader and Vonnegut himself. In this sense, this experimental form of narrative creates another Chrono Synclastic Infundibulum: a place in the novel where both the reader and the author coexist. With this new form of storytelling Vonnegut commits himself to a novel that could possibly fail. However he takes this risk in order to produce a novel that reflects his personal experiences more closely than if he had abided with conventional styles. By inserting the readers and himself into the novel, Vonnegut thus subjects the readers to his personal experiences more directly; the act of reading Slaughterhouse Five becomes a simulation of Vonnegut s past in Dresden. Factory farming is a system of rearing livestock using intensive methods, by which poultry pigs, or cattle are confined indoors under strictly controlled conditions (Merriam webster). The animals are forced into the participation of the supply and demand through cities and towns. Many may be oblivious to the fact that the animalindustry is a leading factor of pollution. The global movement of intense meat production is negatively affecting climate changes, ocean pollution and the animal food chain. The process of meat production is causing the earth s climate to unnaturally change. Factory farms use a variety of toxic chemicals to feed, grow and execute the animals. One of the chemicals used on factory farms is Carbon Dioxide. Burning fossil fuel (oil and gasoline) releases a considerable amount of carbon dioxide. Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel, oil or natural gas, formed from the remains of dead plants and animals. It takes, on average 11 times as much fossil fuel to produce a calorie of animal protein as it does to produce a calorie of grain protein. Their ability to transport you to another world for two hours and make you care about people that aren t real is the most unrecognized form of magic. I m not a critic, so any movie will do, as long as I m interested enough to watch it. Many movies stick in my mind, whether it s a hilarious joke, an awesome fight scene, or simply a unique plot. There is one movie, however, which stands out among them all. A filmI had never heard of before viewing called Prisoners. From start to finish, I was invested in the characters and their goals. I felt their fear and desperation. I was in the movie, not sitting on my living room couch. The movie Prisoners was suspenseful, chilling, and memorable, so there is no doubt in my mindthat it is my favorite movie, and I will likely remember it for the rest of my life. The backbone of any good movie is the story. The story is the rope that the movie uses to drag you in, to make you feel for the characters, to make you more than a simple movie viewer. Prisoners was about Keller Dover, an average man with a teenage son and a young daughter. They have friends down the street, another family just like them. Life isn t perfect, but it s far from anything worth complaining about. Then. the unthinkable happens. The young girl goes missing. From that moment on, both the police and Keller search for her, but they use methods that are drastically different from each other. This poses a question to the audience: How far would you go for the people you love? The way the movie portrayed the desperation of Mr. Dover and the detective assigned to the case was perfect. As time went on, doubt and fear began to take over the minds of everyone involved. As they mystery was slowly unraveled, many twists and turns prevented the solution from being obvious. I was constantly thinking about what might have happened, and I was still nowhere near to close. The emotions felt by everyone who feared for this innocent girl and wondered where she was exploded on the TV screen. It was suspenseful, heart wrenching, and everything you could want from a movie. • 29. Character Analysis Of The Pit And The Pendulum The Pit and the Pendulum Character Analysis Essay Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum uses horror and suspicion to build up not only the storyline, but the persona of the narrator in which is also the prisoner. The characteristics of the prisoner ties within the story to create trippy feelings of fearand unassertiveness of whether or not he is truly safe. From the trials that the prisoner has faced, his characteristic of resourcefulness, pessimistic, and terror are revealed and play a salient part of his slick escape. The prisoner exemplifies resourcefulness which is shown through his actions of survival. Despite his unstableness, he still manages to remain clever in such a frightening situation. Poe asserts that the prisoner is resourceful considering he uses the hem of his robe to plot out his area: I tore a part of the hem from the robe, and placed the fragment at full length, and at right angles to the wall. In groping my way around the prison, I could not fail to encounter this rag upon completing the circuit. (Poe 3). Being that he uses his resources to find his way around the tomb, he learns that he is among a treacherous pit which could mean death. This action alters the whole course of the story due to the possibility of the prisoner falling into the pit. The prisoner continues to show signs of resourcefulness in the toughest situations: Observing that I remained without motion, one or two of the boldest leaped upon the frame work and smelt at the surcingle. This seemed the signal for a general rush. Forth from the well they hurried in fresh troops. They clung to the wood, they overran it, and leaped in hundreds upon my person. (Poe 8). Using the rats as a pathway to his freedom from the pendulum, his quick thinking saved his life. With that being said, the prisoner uses his traits of resourcefulness to escape without letting fear block his tactics. Poe reveals the prisoners aspect of showing pessimistic traits through his thoughts of seeing the worst outcome of events. The prisoner states, It was not that I feared to look upon things horrible, but that I grew aghast lest there should be NOTHING to see. Terrace House Fire Essay Following the tragic event of the great fire of London in 1666, the legislation regarding new buildings in the metropolis became stricter and several laws and measures addressed fire prevention issues. Many of these guidelines were changed several times over the years following various building acts. Apart from the obvious benefits on fire protection, the legislation formed to a large extent the streetscapes and vistas in the neighbourhoods of the capital and other cities in the 18th and 19th centuries onwards. Building acts and by laws did not just deal with structural issues; on the contrary they were often mostly focused on health and sanitation issues that were vital in the Victorian period. Ensuring more available free spaces, decent living conditions, constructions of good quality, ventilation and natural lighting were very significant issues that were not considered as given at the time. Everyday we seem to read another tragic headline about people getting assaulted for being their true selves, countries being torn apart because of hate and intolerance and innocent children getting killed in the crossfire. The frightening part is when these horrors that never make any sense become normal to us. It begs the question, has the world gone mad or have we? Growing up can be a difficult and confusing experience for all. As we grow older and realize the world is more than what is right in front of us. We ask questions to try and make sense of the world as we grow from the simplicity of childhood to the complications of adulthood. As we mature, our perceptions of the world change drastically. A child s closed off world view is challenged as he begins to ask questions and explore. What seemed simple before is much more intricate now. The use of nonsensein both Carroll s Jabberwockyand Lear s limericks from The Book of Nonsense force us to challenge nonsensical situations so we can grow and adjust to the harsh realities of our world by realizing that things are not always what they seem. Both authors do this effectively through the absence of meaning and the use of juxtaposition. The research question that I am interested in answering is whether a combined prolonged exposure (PE) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) approach is useful in treating veterans with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The ideal study would include four groups: one to receive PE, one to receive CPT, one to receive both PE and CPT, and one that does not receive an intervention. The groups would consist of an equal 50/50 male to female ratio (half of the participants would be male, half would be female) to control for gender. The participants would be contacted based on information gathered about veterans with PTSDby the local U.S. Department of Veteran s Affairs offices in Orange County, California. In this scenario, the independent variable is the type of treatment and the values are the treatment groups. The dependent variables are the patient s measurable PTSD symptoms, including frequency of dissociative reactions, recurrent distressing dreams, negative alterations in cognitions and mood, and marked alterations in arousal and reactivity (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). • 37. Reflective Essay On Shutter Island Dennis Lehane s novel, Shutter Island (2010), is about a man that was living one life when in reality he was living a totally different life. Many times, people as well as leaders are living a life in their mind that maybe different from what actions they are carrying out or what others think of them. A method to determine if you are performing to the level you believe you believe you are is to have the opinion of others. For example, you may look in a mirror and see yourself and you appear great, when someone sees you they notice the hair you cannot see is out of place. Without their feedback, or notification, you would be unware of the messed up hair you cannot see from where you look. Getting feedback from others at your level, above your lever, and below your level will give you what is called 360 degree feedback. (Heathfield, 2017). National College for School Leadership gives us a tool to use giving us a chance to receive 360 degree feedback to determine if our image matches what others see. Analysis When I took the first discovery questionnaire I reflected on what image or metaphor I would use to describe myself. One image that kept coming to mind was one of rescuer. I have this image of myself that I am here to save everyone that I can. This is not true only of my personal life trying to save my parents, spouse, kids, and grandchild from harm and hurt but also in my professional life. Being a leader I feel I have to try to save others from the damaging effects of criticism. So, in an ideal world I would be able to protect everyone. I have even been referred to at work as a mother hen trying to protect others from making a mistake. During the second discovery, I was slightly surprised in how I saw myself compared to how others see me not only as a coworker but also as a spouse and a friend. First, as stated above, I considered myself a protector wanting to prevent others from making mistakes I have made. My family agreed that I am a protector but also a provider, I was somewhat surprised when I got a review from a coworker that felt I was untrusting and overshadowing. In some instances, you may need to terminate a real estate easement. Is it possible? The simple answer to the question is yes, it is possible under certain circumstances. Some easements have been in place for many, many years. In this case, it could be effective to institute a lawsuit known as a Quiet Title Action. This is an action that can be initiated in order to quiet the title and remove or terminate the easements. If they could change into wolves, as they did in the Norse tales, they certainly could transform into an owl.5 In his two volume history of the Swedish people, the eminent writer Vilhelm Moberg, relates that during his childhood in SmГҐland, an isolated and backward province, he met elders that not only believed in fairies, but actually saw them.6 Willie probably encountered similar mind sets, since his birth occurred seven year prior to Vilhelm Moberg s and numerous people from SmГҐland immigrated to east central Minnesota.7 Willie normally concluded the telling of the Sinkhole spГ¶ke tale with a prideful proclamation, My generation was the first modern generation. My generation was the first not to believe in that stuff. 8 Egged on by the allure of the Sinkhole spГ¶ke tales and not willing to be a passive bystander, Willie stepped into the scene alongside the spГ¶ke and attempted to harass and frighten the gullible adults. The Cultures Of The French And The Micmac Indians When Europeans encountered the Native Americans, the encounter was fraught with difficulties for both sides, for the Native Americans more so than the Europeans. Europeans conquered the Native Americans, forced them into labor, and spread diseases which the Native Americans had no resistance to. In addition to this the Europeans considered themselves superior to the Native Americans. Despite this, the Europeans and Native Americans, both had things the other wanted and so they often engaged in trade with each other. However, the Native Americans thought that, despite not having the luxuries the Europeans had, they were better off than the Europeans. This sentiment is exemplified in Your People Live Only Upon Cod by French priest Chrestian LeClerq who was traveling with the Micmac Indians. In my time I have been called many things: sister, lover, priestess, wise woman, queen. So begins Marion Zimmer Bradley s account of the Arthurian legend, which places unusual emphasis on the character of Morgaine, otherwise known as Morgan Le Fay. But who exactly is Morgan and how does she vary in the different accounts of the Arthurian legend? In order to assess how Morgan Le Fay is depicted throughout history, it is first important to establish who she is and what part she plays in the legend. Five different texts: Geoffrey of Monmouth s The History of the Kings Of Britain, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The original full retelling of the Arthur story, Monmouth s The History of the Kings of Britain, has few female characters. Morgan Le Fay is once such decided absence. Not only does she play no part whatsoever in the legend, but she is never even mentioned. Mordred, who is often her son by an incestuous relationship with Arthur, is instead the son of Anna and her husband, Loth, the King of Lothian. Anna is as close as Monmouth gets to a Morgan like character. She is the sister of Arthur, and daughter of Igraine and Uther. She gives birth to Mordred, who is the means by which Arthur s death comes about, and Gawain, one of Arthurs most loyal and trusted knights. Le Morte D Arthurby Malory shows an entirely different perspective as to the role and person of Morgan Le Fay in the Arthurian legend. She is one of Arthur s three sisters, the others being Morgause and Elaine. Morgause marries King Lot of Lothian and has four sons including Gawaine while Elaine marries King Nentis. Arthur has an incestuous relationship with Morgause and she gives birth to Mordred. Meanwhile Morgan is continually conspiring against Arthur in an attempt to avenge his father s poor treatment of Igraine. Morgan steals Arthur s sword Excalibur and gives it to her lover Accolon, who challenges Arthur so that he might become High King. Accolon is fatally wounded. Morgan also attempts to sabotage Arthur s knights several times. Mort Artu, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Beauty of the Mundane in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary, it is difficult to know what to think of Monsieur Binet and his lathe. His constant devotion to such an unrewarding pursuit would seem to act as the bourgeois backdrop to Emma Bovary s quest for eternal passion and excitement, a polar opposite with which Emma can stand in sharp contrast. However, it turns out that Binet and his lathe have more in common with Emma and her rampant desires than what would first appear obvious. Binet s lathe still serves as a background with which to compare Emma s quest for love and riches, but instead of acting as a complete antithesis to everything she does, the lathe is meant to be subtly different ... (28) In this one sentence Flaubert not only gives example of how the works are repetitive, with similar plots, and dying horses on every page, but he also manages to capture the clichГ©d, melodramatic style of romance novels that makes them all seem the same. The repetitiveness extends into real life as well, as Emma s love affairs constantly lose their fire and begin to become routine, or, as Rodolphe notes, the charm of novelty, falling down slowly like a dress, expose[s] only the eternal monotony of passion, always the same forms and the same language (154). The feeling of superiority that the lathe gives Binet fits more obviously with Emma s action and character. He uses his lathe with the jealousy of an artist and the egoism of a bourgeois (60). He feels that his craftsmanship and dedication to the lathe make him superior to those deprived souls that do not have one. We see these feelings firsthand when Binet suggests to Leon that he should take up the lathe as a solution to his problems. When Leon admits that he knows nothing about lathes, Binet replies That is true, and strok[es] his chain, with a look that mingle[s] disdain and satisfaction (94). The lathe fulfills Binet s bourgeois ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
