Dr. Ben Carson s Life
Ronald Dolan
9/22/15
Dr. Mera Ford
Dr. Ben Carson The sound of tearing cloth and a twisted metal sound resonates in his head. The knife
had bit into his friend when he lashed out toward his friend over the use of a simple radio. He felt as
light as a feather as he ran home from the scene of the crime. Inside his closet he clutches a bible.
After wiping his tears away the young child looks down to the bible, opens it, and reads Better a
patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city Proverbs 16:32
(CEB). (Ben Carson Bio.com) His anger and fear subsides from his fit of rage where he tried to stab
his friend. Benjamin Solomon Carson at this time was a young frustrate boy who needed help and
found it through the bible. He was lucky that the knife had hit his friend s belt buckle just right so that
the boy was unharmed. This experience, which he considers a miracle, turned a young unruly boy onto
a completely different path of life. Dr. Ben Carson has become someone of great stature and an icon to
all people struggling in the United States. He is a true example of how someone can come from a life
of poverty and hate to a life of love. Dr. Carson had his defining moment at a very young age. Along
with moment was an extremely supportive mother and brother. Carson started off that school year
with terrible grades and had little help to change those grades. It was up to him to pull them up, which
he did. He graduated with honors from his high

Letter To Meyer s English Class
I m writing this letter to my future self for Ms. Meyer s English class and to be placed in the Freshman
Time Capsule to open when I m a senior. To begin with, I moved to Hartford the night before school
started. Kennedy and I fought long and hard about this topic and ultimately, it wasn t our decision. We
were told that we had a say in the discussion, but everything we said was disregarded and trust me, if I
could, I would move back to Watertown in a heart beat. Sadly, there s only about a handful of nice
people that I ve met so far who don t judge me on my appearance or make me feel like insecure about
myself or my actions. I understand that I can be difficult to handle, especially considering how loud
and opinionated I can be at times, but

The Security Has Become A Hot Button Issue
National security has become a hot button issue here in the United States. Rather than representing
other nations, opposing forces represent different ideologies. Enemy personnel may appear as anyone
or come from anywhere, even from the United States. These enemies have a potential to acquire
dangerous weapons and cause detrimental amounts of damage to our nation. To save the country from
these extreme life threatening circumstances, where there is clear and specific evidence, torture is
ought to be reasonable so as to spare innocent lives. Most people in a civilized nation disagree with
torture. However, in compelling and threatening circumstances it may be allowed. Here is the reason,
Many terrorist organizations take advantage of the situation and make an entryway for an assault.
Without the usage of torture, it would take extra time and open doors for another strike later on.
Through the use of torture, the CIA gained useful data by interrogating two terrorist group leaders,
Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah, both of them gave significant data, after agents used
torture. (Gordon n.p.) Zubaydah showed the way to Khalid Mohammed, who was found to be the
mastermind behind 9 11 attacks. (Gordon n.p.) The usage of torture helped gain useful information
about terrorist organizations accountable for the assaults and it opened a way to stop possible assaults
driven by Al Qaida later on. (In Debate n.p.) Present and former U.S. authorities have claimed they

Symbolism In Lot Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Lot of the Lottery
Brittney Hale
ENGL 1302
Ms. Mary Elle Young
10 03 17
Shirley Jackson s The Lottery , is a story that is filled with symbolism. The author uses symbolism to
help her represent the human race as cruel no matter how righteous he or she may see themselves, or
how perfect their way of life may seem to be. The story is very effective in making the reader question
the unnecessary nature humans express, especially when it comes to tradition or violent behavior.
Jackson effectively expresses her beliefs concerning mankind s true nature that is commonly masked
behind tradition. The author portrays how inhumane and cruel people can be when it comes to their
values and everyday life. Jackson presents the theme of this short story with a major use of
symbolism. Symbolism is shown throughout the setting of The Lottery, objects, contestant s names
and numbers.
The author makes it well known to the reader that the black box is the central theme of the passage.
The box symbolizes, at first, that something more ominous is to come. Jackson s choice of the color
black is a perfect example for the story, it symbolizes death and complete darkness. A town person s
fate lies in the hands of this inanimate object. The black box is an excellent representation of the
sacrifice the citizens are willing to give to keep up with traditions. The author not only used the color
of the box to symbolize what was happening in the town, but also the condition of the box. The no
longer completely black but splintered box portrays the decaying of the original religious ideals the
lottery (Jackson 230) was founded upon. Even though the citizens felt uneasy about the box, and
would even keep their distance from the stool with the black box on it (thoughtco). They do not
question the origin of the black box, but they accept it as a way of life.
The names of the character play a significant role in developing the story. Quite a few of the names
are more obvious than others, such as Delacroix, which translates as of the cross . Others, such as
Adams, make the reader think more in depth about them. One of the main characters, Mrs. Delacroix,
appears often in the story. She is a companion of Tessie, the

Disadvantages Of Macloan Microloans
To start a business there can be few major financial options available and most of it would be greatly
used, provided the risk analysis is done A 2012 National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)
study says about 79% of small business owners manifested in their credit cards to start their business.
And it is rather convincing that in average 4 out of 5 small business owners are using credit cards. One
fine example to this financial source is the founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergery Bin have used
their credit cards to start their business. However, there are some disadvantages to this method, as if
done in a right way then it would be beneficial. As such planning of the business structure and risk
analysis are important.

with a heavy debts on their shoulders and they are able to pay back the loans at the agreed time
without additional issues. For example, if the entrepreneur is to open a small bakery shop based in
their own shop house, with expected turn around less than RM10000 per month, then microloans

leukocytes, white blood cells. You can live without your spleen, if the removal of the spleen is a
necessity, the other organs in the body adapt and increase their ability to fight infection and remove
redundant red blood cells. The spleen is divided into two main compartments, red pulp and white pulp.
surrounded by a dense fibrous covering called the splenic capsule. White pulp, is the infeciton
combating lymphoid tissue where white blood cells are produced and mature. This pulp is made up of
periarteriolar lymphoid sheathes, and lymphatic nodules. The sheathes surround central arteries within
the spleen and contain T lypmhocytes that attack foreign bodies as blood is filtered into the spleen.
The lymphatic nodules are where B Lymphocytes predominate, producing antibodies to coat
pathogens and flag them for removal by scavanger leukocytes. The splenic artery delivers blood to the
spleen where it is filtered by red pulp. The red pulp is made up of cords of conective tissue and wide

high numbers are mostly because of a big litter that was unplanned. Removing a pet s reproductive
organs is a great way to battle animal overpopulation. The price of spaying or neutering has a range of
about $45 $175. That is not too much relative to caring for a whole litter of kittens or puppies. There
are other great reasons to spay and neuter animals besides the fact that it doesn t contribute to
overpopulation. For instance, spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, which is fatal

How Does Elizabeth Proctor Create Tension In The Crucible
The historical events occurring in The Crucible are portraying the Salem witch trials that took place in
the Province of Massachusetts Bay during 1962. Arthur Miller the writer of this astonishing play, with
these unforgettable characters remaking this time in history. Fear pushes these Puritans to show the
true selves while facing the accusers in the court before the merciless judges. Dwelling in the heart of
Abigail Williams is revenge and shame, as Elizabeth Proctor is full of righteousness and faith being

Pro Gun Control Debate
As we engulf ourselves in politics for the election year, there has been frequent source of debate
between the candidates; gun control. In the words of Patrick J. Charles of Britannica, gun control is
...politics, legislation, and enforcement of measures intended to restrict access to, the possession of, or
the use of arms, specifically firearms. Even taking away the political importance, gun control is a hot
topic that is in every Americans mind as fear for personal safety is on the rise. This has been created
by increased media attention and coverage of mass shootings, which seem to occur more frequently as
time goes on. This has lead to the question: can we use laws and enforcement to reduce the violence?
It shows creating laws to control or ban the purchasing and use of firearms is the most probable to be
the solution to reducing gun violence while coinciding with proper firearm education. The event that
sparked the modern debate of gun control occurred on July 20, 2012 when James Holmes used
weapons with high capacity magazines to open fire on a sold out movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado,
and accumulated 74 casualties, including 12 deaths. Colorado unfortunately is no stranger ... Show

Impact of Globalisation on International Public Policy Essay
Introduction
Agreements on International Public Policy have never been as abundant as in the last century. In the
meantime, Globalisation has become a major phenomenon around the world, at various levels. So, it
will be interesting to know if globalisation makes agreements on International Public Policy easier or
harder.
Looking towards history, Globalisation has deeply affected both national and international way of
governance. Focus will be made on the economical and political aspects of globalisation and its effects
on IPP1 in those fields.
Globalisation has been very difficult to define clearly, and many scholars tried to give a accurate
description. To link globalisation to IPP, let s see how agreements on IPP evolved ... Show more

Internationalization refers to the increasing importance of international trade, international relations,
treaties, alliances.2.
Regionalisation means a less interconnected world , with a stronger regional spirit. (Mercosur for
example).
A definition of Globalisation would be that : Globalisation typically refers to the process by which
different economies and societies become more closely integrated3.
Another definition would be that: Globalisation describes a process by which national and regional
economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through the global network of trade,
communication, immigration and transportation. 4
According to those definitions, globalisation seems to be a process that creates an international market
for goods and services, that creates a rise of standardised norms and social behaviour, that facilitated
centralisation of international politics through supranational entities such as the United Nations, the
World Bank or the World Trade organisation.
Looking towards history, markets has been increasingly integrated to a global market, which was
followed by the spread of ideologies (liberalism, democracy, capitalism, human right).

Abg Analysis Lab
Arterial blood gas analysis (ABG analysis) is a method used to measure the levels of oxygen and
carbon dioxide in the blood, these values are often reported as the partial pressure of oxygen and
carbon dioxide respectively (1). AGB analysis is also used to directly measure blood pH, with the
blood pH and partial pressure of carbon dioxide, one is able to calculate the concentration of
bicarbonate in the blood. ABG analysis can also be used to measure hemoglobin, lactate and
electrolyte levels contained, but is most commonly used to measure oxygen, carbon dioxide and pH
levels. As the name suggests, a sample of arterial blood is used to do the analysis. Arterial blood is
used because it allows the physician to measure the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide that are

Due to the lack of insulin patients with type I diabetes are unable to use glucose as their primary
energy source, as a result their body switches to fat metabolism as its source of energy. As a result
acidic ketones are produced as metabolic byproduct, this can be directly detected as a decrease in pH
on ABG analysis. Patients with moderate to severe DKA have a blood pH ranging from 6.9 7.2,
lowered bicarbonate levels and a carbon dioxide partial pressure in the rage of 15 20mmHg. The the
cause of our patient her partial pressure of carbon dioxide was 15mmHg, bicarbonate was low and a
blood pH of 7.14, these values suggest that the patient has metabolic acidosis and that the diagnosis of
DKA is likely correct. While ABG analysis can be used to diagnose DKA several studies suggest that
the ABG test results rarely effect a physicians diagnosis, treatment and management of the condition

to serve as a substitute to arterial pH analysis and is less painful for the patient

Media Credibility In Social Media
Surveys indicate that in 2016, most Americans, 62%, used social media to access news (Pew Research
Center, 2016). Nearly 80% of American journalists use social media (Lee, 2015). Social media has
become a source for both creating and obtaining news (Yamamoto, Nah, Chung, 2017). As technology
changes how people receive news, it also changes how they evaluate credibility (Lee, 2015). Research
into media credibility has evolved over the years, a simplified definition of media credibility might be
believability, accuracy, and trustworthiness (Calvo Porral. Martínez Fernández, Juanatey Boga, 2014).
Media credibility focuses on the believability of the news channel. Source credibility focuses on the
senders of the messages (Bucy, 2003).
Several theorists have posited in the evaluation the perception of credibility. The current study aims to
concentrate on methods social media users may develop to evaluate the credibility of the news they
access online as well as how familiarity affects the user s perceptions of credibility. Research indicates
that social media users evaluate credibility based on familiarity with the brand (Calvo Porral. Martínez
Fernández, Juanatey Boga, 2014). In other words, if a social media user is familiar with The New
York Times, they are more likely to trust the news posted on social media if it comes from the New
York Times. Brand familiarity allows social media users to quickly examine logo, site presentation,

This means that when the user is searching for a specific page through a search engine such as Google,
they will be able to find what they are looking for swiftly and will not have to search through other
pages to find what they want. This means that meta tags allow better navigation and accessibility to
information for users.
Meta tagging can be used in order to aid user access to information, as it helps people find the website
based on the topic of information. This is done effectively when all of the keywords are included in
the meta data when the website is being built. For example, when a website is being designed to
promote itself such as a cricket club, words in relation to the club would be used such as cricket,
batsman, sponsor, club name etc. these words would all be included within the meta rage because
these words are related to the topic of the page and would therefore allow people to find the website
and its information a lot more quicker and easily.
Meta tagging is necessary for aiding users to find a website and being able to access the information
that it contains. Meta tagging makes finding websites a lot easier because you do not need to know the
specific URL of the web page that you are trying to search for. This is due to the fact that the user can
use the information that is already provided to them in order to find a link to that webpage that they
are searching for. This will make navigating on the internet a easier

Education Is Not Well Defined As Well
According to Labaree (1997) a public good is one where benefits are enjoyed by all the member of the
community, whether or not the actually contributed to the production of this good . On the other hand,
economic literature states that a good can be considered public if it is not excludable and nonrival. The
first characteristic means that if an individual consume this good the other people are not excluded
from consuming it. The second means that when one person consumes the amount available to other
people does not reduce the quantity available for others (Varian, 1992).
It is hard to set education as a public good. Because, the way we discuss education is not well defined
as well. Sometimes people discuss education in country level (or as a system), in the school level or in
the classroom level. Note that the concept of public good can be different in each case. For instance, in
classroom level it seems difficult to accept education as a public good. If a classroom has a limited
size, we are excluding people when we decide to put a group in that class. The nonrival attribute does
not seem to be true in the classroom level as well. Suppose the classroom has a student that demands
teacher all the time, the education available for other students in the classroom can be reduced.
Nonetheless, Labaree discuss education as a system. In this case, the characteristic of a public good
fits better. If policy makers decide to provide a new seat in one school, it seems that

The Influence Of Art On The Good And The Bad
With great power, comes great responsibility , are the well known words uttered by Spider Man s
uncle, Ben Parker. It is not just a great quote from a movie, it also happens to be a universal idea
focusing on the moral and ethical considerations that an individual who yields a certain level of power
must make. This idea reins true in every aspect of life to include the vast world of art. Art is, without
question, very powerful. Art has the ability to influence people and cause change in their lives in both
the good and the bad. According to the Chicago Sun Times actor Bill Murray s life was saved once by
Jules Breton s famous painting Song of a Lark. The actor admitted that the painting stopped him from
having suicidal thoughts and gifted him a new hope for life(cite needed). This is a positive example
and this goes without saying there are negative ones as well. In other aspects Art also wields the power
to generate and manipulate emotion, which can then be harnessed to cause animosity and hatred
amongst mankind as done by the Nazi Party s propaganda films of World War II. Joseph Goebbels,
who was Nazi Germany s Minister of Propaganda prior to and during the war, used film as a machine
to generate an anti semetic campaign to influence the German people and rally them in support of a
master race. One such film, Der Ewige Jude (The Eternal Jew), 1940, which was a major project of
Goebbles, was created with the intent to paint the Jewish race as a parasitical bunch that

The Movie, The Matrix, Written and Directed by the...
The movie The Matrix, written and directed by The Wachowski brothers, can be seen as the ultimate
Marxist metaphor. Its basic premise is that the world as we know it is fake; it is a computer simulated
dreamworld , mimicking our own world of the late 90s, called the Matrix. In charge of the Matrix
itself is a seemingly malevolent sentient machine species. Even worse, the sole purpose of this
simulation is to control humanity, which has been enslaved inside the simulation for several hundreds
of years. It was a matter of survival for the Machines, as the humans in the days before the Matrix
attempted to destroy the Machines by blocking their power source the sun. So, in order for their
species to continue living humanity was enslaved within the Matrix and their bioelectric energies were
harvested and used to power the Machine civilization. Clearly if Karl Marx heard this story he would
fall in love with it, assuming that he could stomach both the violence in the movie and Keanu Reeves
acting*.
Many aspects of the plot of The Matrix have clear correspondence to elements of Marx s Social
Conflict theory. According to Marxist criticisms of Capitalism, there are two major social classes, the
Bourgeoisie and the Proletariat. The Bourgeoisie, or the elite, are the wealthy people, the business
owners, and the politicians. They are the people in charge. This elite class controls the Proletariat. The
Proletariat, or non elite, is the working class. They make up the workforce

Injustice League In King Lear
Injustice League Many people believe in a balance between good and evil, the good being rewarded
and the horrible getting punished. But this is sadly not always the case. In the play King Lear, by
William Shakespeare, the titular character King Lear is betrayed by his daughters and begins to
embark on somewhat of a mental reform. He begins to see things and people for who they really are.
Not only that, but he also takes on the philosophical view that the more powerful you are, the less
consequences you will face for your actions. Even during the late 1500s, Shakespeare was able to see
and write about a social injustice system that is still very real today. In the modern day, many
celebrities and people in power, whether it be socially or economically, are not held to the same
accountability as regular people. Their wealth and famousness act as a kind of shield that protects
them from the consequences that their actions would normally entail. One man who has escaped any
conviction for numerous accusations and proven crimes is the musician R. Kelly. He has been tried
with an abundance of pedophilia, rape, sexual misconduct, and abuse charges. His most recognized
trial being about an alleged sex tape with a 14 year old girl. According to an article by Variety, Over
the years Kelly has had multiple accusations of sexual misconduct leveled against him, including a
2008 case where he was acquitted on 14 charges of making child pornography; that

More repairs to the lighthouse were in the works when the American Revolution intervened. In July
1775, Boston Harbor and the lighthouse were under the control of the British. On July 20, American
troops under Major Joseph Vose landed at the lighthouse and took lamps, oil, and some gunpowder,
and burned the wooden parts of the tower. After leaving the island they had to outrun an armed British
schooner, and two Americans were wounded. An eyewitness described the flames of the lighthouse
ascending up to Heaven, like grateful incense, and the ships wasting their powder.
As the British worked to repair the tower, 300 American soldiers under Major Benjamin Tupper
landed at the island on July 31. They easily defeated the British guard and again burned the
lighthouse. As they tried to leave, they found their boats stranded because the tide had gone out. This
gave British vessels time to reach the scene. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American troops at Nantasket in Hull helped by firing a cannon at the British boats, landing a direct

Alfred W. Crosby s Article The Columbian Voyages, The...
In his article The Columbian Voyages, the Columbian Exchange, and Their Historians , Alfred W.
Crosby seems to think that much of the Columbian voyages and what came out of them was
detrimental to many cultures, most of all the Native Americans. Crosby brings up many institutions
and ideologies to re enforce his opinion, such as the slave trade and the conquest of many Native
American cultures. One of the major effects of the Columbian exchange was the decimation of the
Native American population. Crosby attributes this to many factors, the conquest of the Europeans, the
cultural vacuum created by European attempts to Christianize the Amerindians, and the introduction
of new and lethal micro organisms into the ecosystem. More commonly ... Show more content on

This in turn would lead to more consumption at the top of the food chain, eliminating the predators to
creatures at the lower end of the food chain. This would cause their numbers to rise, which would lead
to irreparable damage to the ever fragile ecosystem.
Another reason that disease is needed was defined by Thomas Malthus. His concept is called the
Malthusian Law, which states that the population will increase geometrically while the food supply
will increase arithmetically. This, simply put, means that the population will grow enormously faster
than the food supply will. Predictably, this leads to starvation and death. Disease, as a natural check,
prevents this from happening. As the population is checked, the supply of food can keep up with the
growth of population, keeping the ecosystem balanced. If disease was not a prevalent factor to check
the growth of population, then the Malthusian Law certainly would be.
However, checking the growth of population is not the only reason the disease is needed. Exposure to
viruses can also help future generations of humans live longer and more fruitful lives. Strange as it
may sound, being exposed to a particular virus can help one s children become better equipped to deal
with it. This because human beings, as all living things, are constantly evolving. As the world around
them changes, the physiology of the human changes as well. Each generation is

Consumer Boycotts
Question 1: Naomi Klein, among others, is a big advocate of consumer boycotts as a means of
ensuring ethical labor conditions in the supply chains of major brands. Describe the logic by which
consumer boycotts are supposed to work.
The logic behind boycotts is to get a company or an establishment to change something about the way
they do business. For example in this article clothing brands where at the center of boycotts to end the
working conditions that where in the sweatshops that made their products. Boycotts work because it
hits a business right where it hurts, their wallets. People boycotting a company for doing something
that they see as an ethical issue will result in them not buying or using their products or services. They
will also tell their friends not to buy or use their products as well. So the company either has to live
with the reduced sales from the boycott or change they way they produce their product. The more
people that join in on a boycotts the more a boycott will be successful. An example of a boycott is
when people said they would not shop on Black Friday because they did not like the fact that these

Research Paper On Teenage Wasteland
When raising a child parents should consider what type of parent they are going to be to their children.
They should decide on which approaches they are going to make in regards to how their child is going
to act. There is no guarantee to know how a child is going to behave as they grow older; it is important
that parents take the steps necessary to ensure that they can help and try to avoid losing their
relationship with their children. A parent s role in raising their children is appreciation,
encouragement, guidance, trust, and acceptance. It is not easy to raise a child, and not all kids are
going to turn out the way their parents expect them to. So, it is up to the parent to set a foundation so
that their children can feel as if their parents will make efforts to understand the trials and tribulations
that they face.
One of the many roles of parents is making sure that their kids know that they are accepting their child
s interests. It is important for parents to show their kids that they are accepted and loved
unconditionally. Parents can be hands on in their children s life by learning who their kids have
become and what their interests are. In the short story Teenage Wasteland by Anne ... Show more

Transformation of Hero in Raiders of Lost Ark
Raiders of the Lost Ark is the 1981 film that follows renowned archeologist and professor Indiana
Jones as he races against time and Nazis to uncover one of the greatest treasures believed to be in
existence, the Ark of the Covenant. In this film, Indiana Jones fulfills the role of the hero and as such
must fulfill certain tasks that will prove his heroic qualities. In The Hero s Journey of Self
Transformation: Models of Higher Development from Mythology, David Hartman and Diane
Zimbermoff explore the traits and characteristics that define a hero and demonstrate the
transformation that his or her ego will undergo in order to become a more complete person. In Raiders
of the Lost Ark, Professor Indiana Jones is recruited by the United States government after they
intercept Nazi radio transmissions referencing Jones mentor, Dr. Abner Ravenwood. It is at this time
that it is revealed that Dr. Ravenwood was a renowned Ark of the Covenant scholar and that he spent
his entire life attempting to find this mythological treasure. Despite Jones insistence that he agrees to
find the treasure before the Nazis get to it simply because of its historic value and states that he does
not believe in the supernatural. By the end of the film, Jones initial beliefs are completely transformed
as he witnesses, first hand, the power of the Ark of the Covenant; after witnessing what the Ark does

Music Is All Around Us
Music is all around us. At the start of the 21st century, technology in industrialised societies provides
us with easy access to a vast amount of recorded music. We can listen to our favourite music at home,
in the car, on the train; on home stereos, personal stereos, and through our computers. We are also
often surrounded by music which we have not chosen, at the shops, waiting for a train, even at the
doctor s.
Research is beginning to show how music has the power to change the way we feel, think, and behave.
We know that music can lift our mood, and certain kinds of music can temporarily boost specific kinds
of intelligence. Listening to our favourite music can even help us tolerate high levels of pain.
What do we know about how young children engage with music? There has been quite a lot of
research looking at the very early years. We know that babies can remember music from even before
birth. My own study with the Child of Our Time group in 2001 showed that exposure to a particular
piece of music before birth had long lasting effects, as the babies seemed to prefer listening to that
music up to 15 months after birth. Other studies have explored the features of maternal singing,
showing how this can make the baby feel calm.
There are also studies of babies responses to music in the lab that show them to be really very
sophisticated listeners. In their first year, babies can notice all kinds of small differences in musical
sequences, and are even better than

1.How has land reform contributed to the rapid industrialization of Taiwan?
Land reform contributed greatly to industrialization of Taiwan because the people were able to own
land due to their governments property ownership program. Since the citizens were allowed to own
their own piece of land, this encouraged them to make their land better and more sustainable
financially speaking. The government gave them this land, which was a catalyst for development.

10. How has the workplace practices of Nike impacted positively on other workplaces in Vietnam?
Nike has caused places such as Vietnam s wages to go up, as well as their standard of living. An
increase in their economy can be seen, and this is due to competition.
11. How has Nike encouraged the growth of small businesses in Vietnam?
Nike has encouraged the growth of small businesses in Vietnam through means of competition and
globalization. If the factory stays in the country long enough, wages will raise. This competitive
atmosphere allows for businesses to thrive.
12. Will multinationals leave countries such as Vietnam once wage rates improve?
What is the reaction of multinationals to this sort of argument?
Multinationals are exposed to competitions, and today consumers own the corporations. Poverty rates

The Qualities Of Brando s Acting
Both authors examined the qualities of Brando s acting that made his acting memorable. Neves
investigated Brando s acting style in the 1954 film On The Waterfront. Neves delved into how Brando
s method acting approach strengthened his role and focused on the psychological complexity Brando
gave to the character. Whereas Krasner wrote about Brando s role in the 1951 film A Streetcar Named
Desire and explored specific details in his acting technique, such as his usage of mumbling and his
rebellious wardrobe choices. Neves points proved to be the strongest, with his extremely in depth
analysis and use of psychology to explain Brando s character s actions. In the future, historians could
analyze how Brando s acting improved and became more memorable as he became older. Altogether,
there were many reasons for Brando s memorability, as shown by Neves arguments that the method
style enhanced his acting, and as shown in Krasner s arguments that precise details in his acting made
him memorable, and further information on his memorability could be gained by studying how his
acting became better over time.
Neves addressed the question of Brando s memorability by examining his acting in the 1954 movie
On The Waterfront. Neves uses hearings by Elia Kazan (director of On the Waterfront) by the House
Committee of Un American Activities as a primary source. This source was useful because it allowed
Neves to gain information on the film s background, in the director s own words.

Life, Liberty, And Pursuit Of Happiness In The Declaration...
The United States, one of the most powerful nations in the world, was founded less than two hundred
and fifty years ago. Since 1776, the year when the thirteen original colonies ratified the Constitution,
three cornerstone ideas have been the drivers of the country s progress Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of
Happiness. Found in the Declaration of Independence, which was written by Thomas Jefferson, these
three concepts have been crucial in the lives of all Americans throughout the existence of this nation.
Liberty, which includes personal and economic freedom, was the main reason why the colonies
decided to break away from the United Kingdom in the eighteenth century. The U.S. went through
many economic booms, various recessions, and several major economic depressions throughout its
history. Yet, here it is, mostly unscathed and in full glory, still dominating the world stage in economic
and foreign affairs. However, in the past two three decades, the economic conditions have changed
adversely, especially for the younger generations. It is an undeniable fact that the consumer and labor
markets have undergone tremendous adjustments, partly due to people s changing lifestyles, as well as
globalization. According to Janet Yellen , the U.S. Federal Reserve Chairwoman s, statement to
Congress, the [country s] financial conditions have worsened and the United States economy has
become less supportive of growth in recent years (Web). The combination of these various factors and

Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Essay
In an original draft of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson attacked King George III
and the institution of slavery, writing, He has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating
its most sacred rights of life and liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him,
captivating carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere or to incur miserable death in their
transportation thither, a report that suggests many Americans saw slavery as an abominable practice
(Jefferson). This was not the case. Thomas Jefferson himself owned slaves, but like many slaveholders
in early America, he knew slavery was wrong. In order to justify the horrible treatment of slaves,
slaveholders became convinced that slaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking on the degradation of slaves, Howard Zinn wrote, The slaves were taught discipline, were
impressed again and again with the idea of their own inferiority to know their place, to see blackness
as a sign of subordination, to be awed by their master, to merge their interest with their master s,
destroying their own individual needs (Zinn, 35). These tactics began as soon as slavery became
widespread in America, a time when Africans were not yet seen as ethnically inferior to whites.
However, as time went on and methods for keeping Africans under control stayed the same, the ideas
slaveholders pushed into the minds of slaves made their way into the public opinion, and became
accepted by society. This is certainly true in the case of Harriet s mistress Mrs. Flint, who, Harriet
says, Seemed to think that slaves had no right to family ties of their own; that they were created
merely to wait upon the family of the mistress (Jacobs, 34). Mrs. Flint had most likely grown up in a
household with slaves, and been around them her whole life. The way she treats her slaves would have
developed from the way she saw her parents treat slaves, so she saw nothing wrong with the idea that
they were only there to serve herself and her family. Thinking back on her experiences with Dr. Flint,
Harriet remembers, When

  • 2. Dr. Ben Carson s Life Ronald Dolan 9/22/15 Dr. Mera Ford Dr. Ben Carson The sound of tearing cloth and a twisted metal sound resonates in his head. The knife had bit into his friend when he lashed out toward his friend over the use of a simple radio. He felt as light as a feather as he ran home from the scene of the crime. Inside his closet he clutches a bible. After wiping his tears away the young child looks down to the bible, opens it, and reads Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city Proverbs 16:32 (CEB). (Ben Carson Bio.com) His anger and fear subsides from his fit of rage where he tried to stab his friend. Benjamin Solomon Carson at this time was a young frustrate boy who needed help and found it through the bible. He was lucky that the knife had hit his friend s belt buckle just right so that the boy was unharmed. This experience, which he considers a miracle, turned a young unruly boy onto a completely different path of life. Dr. Ben Carson has become someone of great stature and an icon to all people struggling in the United States. He is a true example of how someone can come from a life of poverty and hate to a life of love. Dr. Carson had his defining moment at a very young age. Along with moment was an extremely supportive mother and brother. Carson started off that school year with terrible grades and had little help to change those grades. It was up to him to pull them up, which he did. He graduated with honors from his high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To begin with, I moved to Hartford the night before school started. Kennedy and I fought long and hard about this topic and ultimately, it wasn t our decision. We were told that we had a say in the discussion, but everything we said was disregarded and trust me, if I could, I would move back to Watertown in a heart beat. Sadly, there s only about a handful of nice people that I ve met so far who don t judge me on my appearance or make me feel like insecure about myself or my actions. • 4. The Security Has Become A Hot Button Issue National security has become a hot button issue here in the United States. Rather than representing other nations, opposing forces represent different ideologies. Enemy personnel may appear as anyone or come from anywhere, even from the United States. These enemies have a potential to acquire dangerous weapons and cause detrimental amounts of damage to our nation. To save the country from these extreme life threatening circumstances, where there is clear and specific evidence, torture is ought to be reasonable so as to spare innocent lives. Most people in a civilized nation disagree with torture. However, in compelling and threatening circumstances it may be allowed. Here is the reason, Many terrorist organizations take advantage of the situation and make an entryway for an assault. Without the usage of torture, it would take extra time and open doors for another strike later on. Through the use of torture, the CIA gained useful data by interrogating two terrorist group leaders, Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah, both of them gave significant data, after agents used torture. (Gordon n.p.) Zubaydah showed the way to Khalid Mohammed, who was found to be the mastermind behind 9 11 attacks. (Gordon n.p.) The usage of torture helped gain useful information about terrorist organizations accountable for the assaults and it opened a way to stop possible assaults driven by Al Qaida later on. (In Debate n.p.) Present and former U.S. authorities have claimed they found key data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Symbolism In Lot Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson Lot of the Lottery Brittney Hale ENGL 1302 Ms. Mary Elle Young 10 03 17 Shirley Jackson s The Lottery , is a story that is filled with symbolism. The author uses symbolism to help her represent the human race as cruel no matter how righteous he or she may see themselves, or how perfect their way of life may seem to be. The story is very effective in making the reader question the unnecessary nature humans express, especially when it comes to tradition or violent behavior. Jackson effectively expresses her beliefs concerning mankind s true nature that is commonly masked behind tradition. The author portrays how inhumane and cruel people can be when it comes to their values and everyday life. Jackson presents the theme of this short story with a major use of symbolism. Symbolism is shown throughout the setting of The Lottery, objects, contestant s names and numbers. The author makes it well known to the reader that the black box is the central theme of the passage. The box symbolizes, at first, that something more ominous is to come. Jackson s choice of the color black is a perfect example for the story, it symbolizes death and complete darkness. A town person s fate lies in the hands of this inanimate object. The black box is an excellent representation of the sacrifice the citizens are willing to give to keep up with traditions. The author not only used the color of the box to symbolize what was happening in the town, but also the condition of the box. The no longer completely black but splintered box portrays the decaying of the original religious ideals the lottery (Jackson 230) was founded upon. Even though the citizens felt uneasy about the box, and would even keep their distance from the stool with the black box on it (thoughtco). They do not question the origin of the black box, but they accept it as a way of life. The names of the character play a significant role in developing the story. Quite a few of the names are more obvious than others, such as Delacroix, which translates as of the cross . Others, such as Adams, make the reader think more in depth about them. One of the main characters, Mrs. Delacroix, appears often in the story. She is a companion of Tessie, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Pro Gun Control Debate As we engulf ourselves in politics for the election year, there has been frequent source of debate between the candidates; gun control. In the words of Patrick J. Charles of Britannica, gun control is ...politics, legislation, and enforcement of measures intended to restrict access to, the possession of, or the use of arms, specifically firearms. Even taking away the political importance, gun control is a hot topic that is in every Americans mind as fear for personal safety is on the rise. This has been created by increased media attention and coverage of mass shootings, which seem to occur more frequently as time goes on. This has lead to the question: can we use laws and enforcement to reduce the violence? It shows creating laws to control or ban the purchasing and use of firearms is the most probable to be the solution to reducing gun violence while coinciding with proper firearm education. The event that sparked the modern debate of gun control occurred on July 20, 2012 when James Holmes used weapons with high capacity magazines to open fire on a sold out movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado, and accumulated 74 casualties, including 12 deaths. Abg Analysis Lab Arterial blood gas analysis (ABG analysis) is a method used to measure the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood, these values are often reported as the partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide respectively (1). Nearly 80% of American journalists use social media (Lee, 2015). Social media has become a source for both creating and obtaining news (Yamamoto, Nah, Chung, 2017). As technology changes how people receive news, it also changes how they evaluate credibility (Lee, 2015). Research into media credibility has evolved over the years, a simplified definition of media credibility might be believability, accuracy, and trustworthiness (Calvo Porral. Martínez Fernández, Juanatey Boga, 2014). Media credibility focuses on the believability of the news channel. Source credibility focuses on the senders of the messages (Bucy, 2003). Several theorists have posited in the evaluation the perception of credibility. The current study aims to concentrate on methods social media users may develop to evaluate the credibility of the news they access online as well as how familiarity affects the user s perceptions of credibility. Research indicates that social media users evaluate credibility based on familiarity with the brand (Calvo Porral. Martínez Fernández, Juanatey Boga, 2014). • 18. Education Is Not Well Defined As Well According to Labaree (1997) a public good is one where benefits are enjoyed by all the member of the community, whether or not the actually contributed to the production of this good . On the other hand, economic literature states that a good can be considered public if it is not excludable and nonrival. The first characteristic means that if an individual consume this good the other people are not excluded from consuming it. The second means that when one person consumes the amount available to other people does not reduce the quantity available for others (Varian, 1992). It is hard to set education as a public good. Because, the way we discuss education is not well defined as well. Sometimes people discuss education in country level (or as a system), in the school level or in the classroom level. Note that the concept of public good can be different in each case. For instance, in classroom level it seems difficult to accept education as a public good. If a classroom has a limited size, we are excluding people when we decide to put a group in that class. The nonrival attribute does not seem to be true in the classroom level as well. Suppose the classroom has a student that demands teacher all the time, the education available for other students in the classroom can be reduced. Nonetheless, Labaree discuss education as a system. In this case, the characteristic of a public good fits better. If policy makers decide to provide a new seat in one school, it seems that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Influence Of Art On The Good And The Bad With great power, comes great responsibility , are the well known words uttered by Spider Man s uncle, Ben Parker. It is not just a great quote from a movie, it also happens to be a universal idea focusing on the moral and ethical considerations that an individual who yields a certain level of power must make. This idea reins true in every aspect of life to include the vast world of art. Art is, without question, very powerful. Art has the ability to influence people and cause change in their lives in both the good and the bad. According to the Chicago Sun Times actor Bill Murray s life was saved once by Jules Breton s famous painting Song of a Lark. The actor admitted that the painting stopped him from having suicidal thoughts and gifted him a new hope for life(cite needed). This is a positive example and this goes without saying there are negative ones as well. In other aspects Art also wields the power to generate and manipulate emotion, which can then be harnessed to cause animosity and hatred amongst mankind as done by the Nazi Party s propaganda films of World War II. Joseph Goebbels, who was Nazi Germany s Minister of Propaganda prior to and during the war, used film as a machine to generate an anti semetic campaign to influence the German people and rally them in support of a master race. One such film, Der Ewige Jude (The Eternal Jew), 1940, which was a major project of Goebbles, was created with the intent to paint the Jewish race as a parasitical bunch that ... • 20. The Movie, The Matrix, Written and Directed by the... The movie The Matrix, written and directed by The Wachowski brothers, can be seen as the ultimate Marxist metaphor. Its basic premise is that the world as we know it is fake; it is a computer simulated dreamworld , mimicking our own world of the late 90s, called the Matrix. In charge of the Matrix itself is a seemingly malevolent sentient machine species. Even worse, the sole purpose of this simulation is to control humanity, which has been enslaved inside the simulation for several hundreds of years. It was a matter of survival for the Machines, as the humans in the days before the Matrix attempted to destroy the Machines by blocking their power source the sun. So, in order for their species to continue living humanity was enslaved within the Matrix and their bioelectric energies were harvested and used to power the Machine civilization. Clearly if Karl Marx heard this story he would fall in love with it, assuming that he could stomach both the violence in the movie and Keanu Reeves acting*. Many aspects of the plot of The Matrix have clear correspondence to elements of Marx s Social Conflict theory. According to Marxist criticisms of Capitalism, there are two major social classes, the Bourgeoisie and the Proletariat. The Bourgeoisie, or the elite, are the wealthy people, the business owners, and the politicians. They are the people in charge. This elite class controls the Proletariat. But this is sadly not always the case. In the play King Lear, by William Shakespeare, the titular character King Lear is betrayed by his daughters and begins to embark on somewhat of a mental reform. He begins to see things and people for who they really are. Not only that, but he also takes on the philosophical view that the more powerful you are, the less consequences you will face for your actions. Even during the late 1500s, Shakespeare was able to see and write about a social injustice system that is still very real today. In the modern day, many celebrities and people in power, whether it be socially or economically, are not held to the same accountability as regular people. Their wealth and famousness act as a kind of shield that protects them from the consequences that their actions would normally entail. After leaving the island they had to outrun an armed British schooner, and two Americans were wounded. As the British worked to repair the tower, 300 American soldiers under Major Benjamin Tupper landed at the island on July 31. They easily defeated the British guard and again burned the lighthouse. One of the major effects of the Columbian exchange was the decimation of the Native American population. In The Hero s Journey of Self Transformation: Models of Higher Development from Mythology, David Hartman and Diane Zimbermoff explore the traits and characteristics that define a hero and demonstrate the transformation that his or her ego will undergo in order to become a more complete person. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Professor Indiana Jones is recruited by the United States government after they intercept Nazi radio transmissions referencing Jones mentor, Dr. Abner Ravenwood. It is at this time that it is revealed that Dr. Ravenwood was a renowned Ark of the Covenant scholar and that he spent his entire life attempting to find this mythological treasure. Despite Jones insistence that he agrees to find the treasure before the Nazis get to it simply because of its historic value and states that he does not believe in the supernatural. By the end of the film, Jones initial beliefs are completely transformed as he witnesses, first hand, the power of the Ark of the Covenant; after witnessing what the Ark does to the Nazis that wish to use it for their own evil ... In their first year, babies can notice all kinds of small differences in musical sequences, and are even better than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These tactics began as soon as slavery became widespread in America, a time when Africans were not yet seen as ethnically inferior to whites. Mrs. Flint had most likely grown up in a household with slaves, and been around them her whole life. The way she treats her slaves would have developed from the way she saw her parents treat slaves, so she saw nothing wrong with the idea that they were only there to serve herself and her family.
