Land In The Grapes Of Wrath
John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath is one of the most well know and important
novels in American Literature. The Grapes of Wrath shows the economic hardship
that the Dust Bowl brought to farmers on the Southern Plains. The Dust Bowl was
caused by a drought and forced tenant farmers (farmers who occupy and farm land
that is owned by someone else) to leave their land and head west in search for work.
One of the most important themes of the novel is the great significance of land and
its role in the lives of the tenant farmers. Many characters in the novel reveal their

Steinbeck compares Grampa to a frantic, mischievous, and impatient child who,
drank too much when he could get it, ate too much when it was there, talked too
much all the time, (Steinbeck 78). The scene when Grampa races Granma provides

White Man Impact
Impact of the White Man on Western United States During the late eighteen
hundreds, the Western United states began to change. This was due to the settlement
of the white man expanding for many reasons; population had increased, food was
becoming more of a necessity due to shortages, and it was becoming cramped in the
southern states. Also, due to the idea of the Manifest Destiny, which is the belief that
it was the white man s right to take the land no matter what it takes. Farmers, trappers,
miners, and pilgrims traveled across the country in search of better lives to support
their families along with their country. Americans are not the most friendly and
sharing people, especially when settlements of the white man began in the Western
United States. Conflicts between native americans and americans began to occur.
Americans did not picture themselves living side by side with the indians. This
resulted in the government reserving the plains region to indians in 1834.
Understandingly, the native americans mostly resisted relocation which resulted in
small battles. Eventually the indians agreed after the Wounded Knee Massacre of
1890 which killed around 300 natives. Whites tried to assimilate the indians and make
them white, this resulted in native american schools where they were mostly taught

Woodrow Wilson s The League Of Nations
The League of Nations was established in 1919 after the deadly and devastating
conflict of World War I. The nations of the world needed a way to rebuild and regain
trust in one another after this worldwide atrocity. President Woodrow Wilson believed
that an international peacekeeping organization, such as the League of Nations, could
achieve this monumental goal. President Wilson was convinced that the League
could prevent another wWorld wWar, preserve peace, and promote total disarmament
among nations. Wilson went to the Treaty of Versailles
negotiations with a Fourteen
Point Plan for peace, but he sacrificed almost all of his plans so that the League of
Nations could be established. This organization, however, would never live up to the
President s dreams for its success. Despite Woodrow Wilsons support for the League

Pictograms is a visual language aim to establish the most important type of
communication using visual language to transcending language barriers. For
instance, it was stated, Languages allow us to communicate with each other in a
relatively effortless way because they rely on many types of conventions (e.g.,
morphological, syntactic, semantic, phonetic) (Nakamura Zeng Treitler, 2012, p.

He was treated like a prisoner who committed a heavy crime. He was captured and
then eventually burned at the stake. He was willing to sacrifice his life so that we
could be able to read the bible in a language we could understand. He tried to
translate the bible in English from the original Greek texts because the Latin bible

Juror s Duty In Twelve Angry Men
Twelve Men are on jury duty. The judge explains to them the case, a case where
supposedly a son murdered his father. It seems obvious that the boy did it, and they
all vote guilty; besides, Juror 8. He points out some things that didn t particularly
set well with him, but of course all the other jurors just tell him to give it up so
they can do other things. So, he for the foreman to take a vote that he ll stay out,
and if everyone votes guilty; then, it s over and he ll vote guilty, but another juror
votes not guilty. So, they argue for awhile until a point is brought up that the knife
the murderer used was unique, and that only the boy could have used it, but that was
proven false when Juror 8 pulls out an exact copy of it. After that another... Show
But that statement made the third juror made saying he d kill the 8th juror, but
earlier in the play that s exactly what the boy said to his father hours before the
killing, and to the audience it shows how things can be used as an exaggeration.
So, once that happens the votes are tied. Juror 8 now breaks apart the fact that the
boy couldn t remember the movies he supposedly saw, but says in that kind of
state of trauma it could be difficult. They also discuss how the murderer used a
switchblade the wrong way, and that there was no way that the boy would use it
the wrong was as he was very experienced. Juror 8 goes on and sees if it was also
actually possibly for the other witness (the woman) to actually see the murder. They
test it as well and find it also highly unlikely that she put on her glasses in time
enough for her to see. So, all that s left on the guilty verdict is 10 and 8, and 10
changes his verdict to not guilty after being quickly shut down about his comments.
So, now that only 8 is left, they have a somewhat difficult time convincing him, but

Sports Effect in Society
In today s world, sports play a huge role in society. Through sports we find people
being physically active through first hand participation. We also find a united
community as people band together with fellow fans to cheer on their favorite
teams. Professional and college sports also allow economic impact by providing
jobs, from the janitor at the stadium to the general manager of the team. Through
close examination and research we can show that sports have a positive effect on
many aspects of society.
Healthier Life Most to all sports require a certain level of physical activity. Some
more than others, but overall sports gets your heart pumping a little bit faster. The
U.S. Department of Health suggest adults to have 150 minutes of physical
exercise a week to prevent diseases such as diabetes, and other heart diseases. This
applies to teenagers too. As more people participate in sports programs they take
better care of their bodies. Such as not smoking or drinking. This resulting in less of
a chance in getting diseases later in life. Researchers at the U.S. Department of
Health also suggests kids should get at least 60 minutes of physical exercise each
day. We see professional sportshelping to do so through their programs. For example:

Romeo seems like a passionate, romantic and excitable young man. He seems to like
the idea of being in love, although I would suggest the feelings he has for Juliet begin
only as infatuation and grow throughout the balcony scene.
In the beginning of the scene Romeo is portrayed as determined, wary and possibly

In the beginning of the scene we see Romeo climbing the orchard wall in complete
darkness, but when he enters the swimming pool area the fairy lights illuminate the
immediate vicinity, coupled with the floral trellis this makes the setting quite
romantic.
You get a sense of the era because the house is traditional in style, from the authentic
continental windows to the ageing balusters on the balcony. The size of the house,
together with the presence of a swimming pool gives the impression that Juliet comes
from a very affluent background.
The costumes seem appropriate for the period; Juliet wears a simple plain white
dress, possibly portraying virginity and virtuosity and Romeo wears the costume of a
knight, which could signify valour and gallantry. In contrast we see the security guard
sporting a very modern outfit complete with baseball cap, earpiece and headset.
