Uganda In The 1960 s
The Republic of Uganda has gone through an economical transformation after its independence from
Britain in 1962. Although independence brought change, Uganda struggles as it tries to find its place
on the long list of countries with a successful economy. The everyday life of Uganda show its
centuries old traditions and history. Culture is much like a log cabin, individual logs put together make
the cabin complete. The individual pieces alone are important but when they are together, they create
something unique. The individual details in culture include the languages spoken, the daily customs,
the multiple religions, the type of government, social classes if existent, history of the country, and
geographical location. While each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before their independence from the British in 1962, the Ugandan Army trained to higher standards
than practiced today. The Ugandan Army earned international admiration during World War I and
World War II. The decline in standards came amid political and economical struggles during the 1960
s. After Uganda gained its independence, the military took another turn for the worst. The morale in all
military forces plummeted because British officers retained most command positions. In 1986 the
countries leader vowed to improve the education standards for military recruits, improve the standards
of discipline, and override regional loyalties that slowed the pace of military improvement. By 1990,
there was very little progress made towards those goals. The most recent notable accomplishment of
the military was in 2012 when they were able to capture Caesar Acellam, a top military leader in the
Lord s Resistance Army. The notable Joseph Kony belongs to the Lord s Resistance Army. The
recruitment process is very similar to that of the United States. The Ugandan military has always been
an all volunteer force, both before and after their independence. In the recent years, women have been
able to enlist, but not hold positions of command. The minimum age for enlistment is seventeen and
the maximum age allowed is twenty five. All military recruits must have an education level equivalent
to that of a seventh grader. During the 1970 s, there was a brief period where enlistment became
mandatory along with the educational requirement suspended. The contractual requirement is either
five or nine years, although this is normally ignored allowing service members to get out early.
According to Flood, After independence, life for the common soldier became desperate, and
increasingly so in the 1970 s and 1980 s . (213) Soldiers in today s Ugandan Army sometimes rely on
theft, bribery, and extortion

Character Analysis Of Mrs. Dalloway, By Virginia Woolf
Written by Virginia Woolf, Mrs. Dalloway is a fictional novel that concentrates on the daily
encounters of Clarissa Dalloway and her flashbacks. Woolf s stream of consciousness technique and
third person narration gives the reader an insight into the doings and feelings of the various characters
in the novel. Woolf s commentary focuses on the oppression that resulted from World War I. This is
seen primarily in Septimus Warren Smith, who suffers from shell shock and serves as a double of
Clarissa. On a Wednesday in June, Clarissa, who is currently 52 years old, introduces the readers to a
plethora of streets in Westminster and also the up scale guests who will be attending her party that
evening. Clarissa is known for her lavish parties, thrown for the purpose of allowing important people
to chat, while maintaining her upper class image that was gained through her marriage with Mr.
Dalloway. The plot of the novel is simple, yet readers know intricate details about the characters
through their thoughts. In Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf uses Clarissa s isolation, her realization of
life and death, and the relationships between the characters in a single day during the post World War I
era to express the feelings and thoughts of Clarissa, who hears the striking of Big Ben and reflects
upon her past. Mrs. Dalloway, although married to Richard Dalloway and living in an apartment with
Sally Seton, displays signs of isolation and loneliness. Her parties are a way for her to

The Virginia Statue For Religious Freedom Essay
In 1832, a contractor that went by the name of Philip Duffy owned a stretch of a railroad line about
thirty miles west of Philadelphia, Mile 59. He hired countless Irish Catholic immigrants to work for
him and continue to build the line for the Philadelphia and Columbia railroad, now connecting
Philadelphia to the Main Line. Not only were the working conditions terrible, with the wooded hills
and ravines, but less than two months after the workers came to Philadelphia, they were assumed to
have died from the Cholera outbreak that was a worldwide pandemic for the second time.
On June 23, Duffy met an arriving bark called the John Stamp on the Philadelphia docks that had
sailed from Derry in April with a shipload of Irish laborers, mainly Catholics from Donegal, Tyrone,
and Derry. He acquired his work crew for mile 59 primarily from the men of the John Stamp. The site
eventually was named Duffy s Cut for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe the societal events have shaped our views on certain religions, but it does not mean that we
need to belittle and destroy what keeps people together, what gives them a reason to be. In the Virginia
Statue for Religious Freedom, Thomas Jefferson stated that
No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry
whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall
otherwise suffer, on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to
profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in
no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.
If that was an established idea, and later written in the First Amendment of the National Constitution,
is it not our duty as Americans to allow people to believe in what they want? Atheist, Agnostic, or
whatever you believe, it is right for you and no one should be put down because of

The United States Congress On The Rights Of The Child (...
The United States Senate should ratify the United Nation s human rights treaty, The Convention on the
Rights of the Child (CRC). The CRC is the most widely ratified human rights treaty with over 193
states parties ratifying it (unicef.org). The CRC was adopted by the UN General Assembly on
November 20th, 1989 and promotes the rights of children worldwide (childrightscampaign.org). The
treaty recognizes that children have certain unalienable rights. These rights are to develop physically,
mentally, and socially to their fullest potential (ohchr.org). These rights also include the ability to
express their opinions freely and to participate in decisions affecting their future (ohchr.org).

Protecting State Sovereignty The concern of the US government being undermined by a UN
committee should be nonexistent. The United States Supreme Court s decision in 1957 ruled that no
international law could override the country s Constitution (oyez.org). After the case, Reid v Court,
Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black stated The United States is entirely a creature of the Constitution.
Its power and authority have no other source...When the Government reaches out to punish a citizen
who is abroad, the shield which the Bill of Rights and other parts of the Constitution provide to protect
his life and liberty should not be stripped away just because he happens to be in another land.
This decision results in the CRC not having any overriding power to the rights given and protected by
the Constitution. The United States executive branch also gave its signature of approval and support of
the CRC in 1995 (Bova 174). In sum, the United States government would still be in complete control
of its laws and citizens. Although, states that have ratified the treaty are required to to report to the UN
Committee on the Rights of the Child every five years, the United States has been doing so since 2003
when it ratified the two aforementioned explicit protocols of the CRC. Neither the CRC committee

Essay Dualism in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho
The characters in Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho (1960) each have a dual nature that is masterfully
portrayed through character development and use of mirrors throughout the film. The very first shot in
Psycho is zooming in from an open view of the city where it is a bright and sunny day. As the shot
zooms in further and further it comes into a dark and shaded room that shows Marion Crane (Janet
Leigh) and Sam Loomis (John Gavin) having an affair in a undisclosed hotel. This is dualistic image is
just one example of many that Hitchcock has placed in this film. Marion Crane is the first main
character that is focused upon for the first half of Psycho. All that Marion Wants, after all, are the
humble treasures of love, marriage, home, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marion s death is very symbolic and dualistic in a multitude of ways. The fact that Marion is
nonetheless murdered after her self realization suggests that neither she nor the society that produced
her is recuperable (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] Once Marion had made that
fatal mistake to become a criminal, she was destined to die as a criminal, with no chance of salvation.
This is very dualistic of the ending of the frontier, which was right around the time Psycho was
produced. the movement of the film is steadily downward and inward, away from the feeling of
daylight, abundance, and expanse to a nightmarish claustrophobia that exteriorizes the unconscious
mind. (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] The image of the West being a gigantic
open expanse was coming to an end and Hitchcock showed that the frontier was finished and there
was no chance of it coming back. Hitchcock places a large amount of dualism between the characters
of Marion, Sam, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), and Lila Crane (Vera Miles). The first couple, Sam
and Marion, engenders the second, Norman and Marion: Norman has thus taken the place of Sam. Yet
he has actually, diegetically speaking, taken the place of Marion, given the mirror dialectic between
the sexes and their psychic structurations. (Deutalbaum, Poague 357) [Bellour 357] The couple of
Marion and Sam never got a chance to be married, but as the film goes through the

palpitations makes even the most avid McDonald s patron want to stop eating their harmful food.
During a checkup after experiencing the heart palpitations, Dr. Isaacs tells Spurlock Your cholesterol
is now 225 and your liver is inflamed. The doctor advises him to stop eating McDonald s food. It is
shocking to see that after only two weeks on a McDonald s diet an individual can become severely ill.
Dr. Isaacs tells Spurlock You are pickling your liver much like an alcoholic does when drinking. My
advice is to stop. Stop this fatty diet. Two weeks later Spurlock s final weigh in indicates that he has
gone from 185.5 lbs. to 210 lbs. He has gained a total of 24.5 lbs., which has increased his total body
fat from 11% to 18%. It is astonishing to see that thirty days of a fast food diet can cause so much
damage to an individual s body. The unhealthy effect fast food has on the body is no longer deniable
to individuals who have seen the film. Schools play a vital role in the health and well being of their
students. Spurlock gives viewers a look into three different schools and the nutrition they supply their

Tet Offensive Tactics
While serving in the Marine Corps infantry, it was drilled into my head that in order to win on the
battlefield, one needed to strike faster, harder, and more aggressive than the enemy. These tactics have
proven to be very efficient on the front lines, and have won countless battles for many U.S. troops.
Though our actions on the front lines may be very effective, they are not the only deciding factors in
winning the war. Without the support from the people back home, our battlefield objectives would be
very hard to obtain. America learned this lesson first hand during the Vietnam war, and more
specifically, during the attacks of the Tet Offensive.
Technically, the Tet Offensive was a battlefield win for U.S. troops, however, it resulted ... Show more

I will begin by giving a brief explanation of how the U.S. got involved in the Vietnam War, along with
some of the motives that sparked the conflict. In order to understand the full picture of the Vietnam
war, I believe that it is important to know why America was there in the first place. Next, I will be
discussing the events of the Tet Offensive and the battles that followed. The massive attack launched
against U.S. troops during the Tet Offensive caused a shift in the war that had many negative
outcomes for America. Following the events of the Tet Offensive, I will discuss the media s role in the
conflict. The Vietnam War was the first American war to be broadcasted for all to see. This brings me
to my next, and final point, the public s opinion. The availability of combat footage led to the spark of
many antiwar movements. Many antiwar protests took place at universities, such as the University of
South Carolina, and in the nation s capital. I hope that by sharing my point of view on the subject, I
will help to connect the dots between the Tet Offensive, carried out by the North Vietnamese, and
America s less than victorious withdrawal from the Vietnam

Testing Various Disinfectants On Bacteria Covered...
Disinfectants vs. Bacteria This project involves testing various disinfectants on bacteria covered
toothbrushes to see which method is most effective. The three main methods of disinfectants are
hydrogen peroxide, U.V rays to kill bacteria, and antibacterial soap. Learning what is in the various
disinfectants that eliminate bacteria is beneficial to understanding the experiment. Bacteria are single
celled organisms that reproduce quickly. Pathogens are bacteria that cause sickness. Once the body is
infected with pathogens, those bacteria reproduce and grow inside of cells in the body. As they grow,
certain bacteria can make toxins; those toxins can damage the body s cells. Symptoms of a sickness
can be caused by those toxins. Pathogens can be spread from one person to another through physical
contact or contact with bodily fluids. Bacteria however can be killed by sterilization, cold
temperatures, antiseptics, disinfectants, and pasteurization. The antibacterial soap mentioned is a
disinfectant that reduces bacteria, which therefore reduces chance of infection. Hydrogen peroxide is
an antiseptic that reduces bacteria. The difference between antibacterial soap and normal hand soap is
triclosan or triclocarbon. Triclosan is an antibacterial compound in antibacterial soap and a potent
synthetic chemical. The text states, Triclosan is classified as a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent
because it is effective against a wide range of microbes; the term antimicrobial implies

Prior to the collapse, Dew and I had joined Bally s gym downtown at 15th and Market. Our goal was
to stay healthy and spiritual. Our minds were focused on the after hustling aspect of life and more into
accepting Islam once we got finished in the game. I would bring a Yusuf Ali Quran with me to the
gym and sit in the jacuzzi and sauna and just read some small chapters until I was ready to leave. My
mind was at peace. I met one Muslim brother who used to sell perfumes who used to drop science on

Back up North Philly was a whole different story. The grind was much more relaxed although you had

They only wanted peace on the block. They would salute you, embrace you, and even help you out.
They would warn you from the cops, stick up boys, or even from their own friends. Most people on

Essay on Crossing Boundaries- Maos Last Dancer
Crossing boundaries is pushing yourself past the limits. There are many people that cross various
boundaries, whether it is a physical boundary, cultural boundary or a mental boundary. This is seen in
the prescribed text, the film Mao s Last Dancer directed by Bruce Beresford. In this we see not only
the main character Li cross boundaries but also, the minor characters, Ben and Teacher Chang.
Crossing boundaries also heard in the Song Love Story by Taylor swift. This song relates back to the

boundaries. There are many reasons why people cross boundaries, perhaps to prove a point to

After all the hard work put into the ballet dancing because he wanted to prove he was better then what
they all thought he was, Li becomes stronger and by far the best ballet dancer after pushing himself to
his best. This fable shows that anyone can push themselves to be better then they think.
While Li is in America he finds a beautiful girl Elizabeth, who he thinks is the one for him. The beach
scene we see of Li and Liz is a very important scene, this shows us a close up of the two of them, and
Li lets Liz know how he feels free in America and that when he dances in China, its only Political

scene shows relaxation and this is shown by the diegetic sound of the seagulls and the beach water in
the background. This scene also shows that Li s English is much more fluent and he understands a lot
more. Everything is then going well for Li, his ballet is going just the way he never expected it to be,
which was fantastic and he had his girl. But then the Chinese government sent a request for Li to go

The Lokia And Like The Leaves By Graciela Huinao And Two...
Scars that can t be seen, are the hardest to heal. This phrase can be connected to the two literary
poems, The Lokia, written by Graciela Huinao and Like the Leaves poet by Humberto Ak abal. In The
Lokia, expresses the grief of the Native Americans of losing their properties to the Europeans.
Similarity, the second poem Like the Leaves, illustrates that a tree is a figure of a Native American
losing their culture and themselves to the injustices of their society. Both of these two poems are then
connected to a historical text, Canada s Hidden History, My Mother and Me, authored by Gabrielle
Scrimshaw. In Canada s Hidden History, My Mother and Me communicate the injustice events of the
Native Americans has to endure; only lived the role of a bystander. In the two literary poems, The
Lokia, written by Graciela Huinao and Like the Leaves by Humberto Ak abal, the two authors used
symbolism to convey the scars of the Native American society, which it can never be healed. The two
poems, however, advocate becoming an upstander that stands against the injustices. The Loika, who
can only sing in sorrow, is a representation of the scars in the Native Americans that can t do anything
to stop the conqueror. The Loika sings, for the loss of its home, property, and resources. Huinao
expresses, Loika, why do you sing, if your voice wavers? I sing for my tree, for the morsels of food,
for my land, For what was mine yesterday. I sing for the sorrow of losing these things... (Huinao,

Cialdini s Six Weapons Of Influence
In Social Psychology, there are six principles of compliance that describe the tactics people use to
persuade or influence others. Also referred to as Cialdini s six weapons of influence, these six
approaches include reciprocation, commitment and consistency, social proof, friendship/liking,
authority, and scarcity. Of course, one can find examples of these persuasive techniques in everyday
life situations. However, if there is a single location where one can find examples of these principles
occurring at the same time, it would be at farmer s market. This past Sunday, I visited the Chattanooga

He also asked me if I liked each sauce, and asked for my thoughts about how each sauce tasted.
Naturally, since I love hot sauce, I agreed that all the sauces were delicious. Since I agreed to tasting
each sample and giving positive feedback I made it seem as though I was committed to the position
that supported the notion that each sauce was excellent. That would have made it more likely for me to
buy a full bottle of at least one sauce. This vendor also used the foot in the door technique in that he
had me agree to a small request (sampling hot sauce), and then presented me with a larger request
when he asked me if I would like to buy a full bottle. After this encounter, I was very convinced to
buy a bottle, but I did not do so. This was because I did not need hot sauce and I wanted to spend my
money on other things. However, if I had the extra money, I would have bought the hot sauce.
Scarcity The next vendor I stopped at was selling dog collars and leashes. I ended up buying a faux
Gucci dog collar for my dog because the vender used the principle of scarcity to convince me to buy
the collar. Initially, I approached the second booth with the intention of buying a cheaper, more basic
dog collar with no design. Then, when I encountered the fake Gucci dog collar, I was amused and
thought it was cool. However, as I was about to put to it back, the vendor came up to me and told me

The Product Gross Margin ;
There is a new commission based on the product gross margin , but neither commission will be paid

Intersectional Theory Paper
Theoretical Approach The conflict perspective is one way to analyze why health care disparities occur
in a nation as wealthy as the United States. Johnson and Rhodes discuss how this perspective looks at
who holds the power in society and how this affects distribution of scarce resources (2015). In
addition, this perspective shifts the focus from the individual s responsibility to how social institutions
disperse resources. The conflict perspective highlights the United States fee for service model and
how this commodifies healthcare. This creates a two tier health care system in which powerful and
wealthy people enjoy better healthcare outcomes than people who lack funds and power. This tiered
system leads to health care disparities (Henslin, 2011). Intersectionality is a conflict perspective theory
that created a framework for further analyses of where health care disparities originate. Lisa Bowleg
describes intersectionality theory as a way for understanding how multiple social identities such as
race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and disability intersect at the micro level of
individual experience to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically, African Americans have been exploited by the United States healthcare system. This is
evidenced by the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment (Chaitoff, Wickizer, White, 2011). In this experiment
African American males were left untreated to observe the disease process of syphilis. This continued
for many years and eroded the trust of African Americans in the healthcare system. This can be used
as a framework for why African Americans do not utilize healthcare services at the same rate and do
not trust healthcare providers (Chaitoff et al., 2011). This lack of utilization and trust translates into
healthcare disparities by waiting for acute crisis to seek out care instead of preventative treatment

Briony s False Testimony
Atonement, by Ian McEwan, follows the lives of two lovers Cecilia Tallis and Robbie Turner who are
separated following Briony s false testimony. After accusing Robbie of raping Lola, Robbie is sent to
prison which then leads to his involvement in World War II, and Cecilia distances herself from her
family. Following the conviction, Briony continuously attempts to seek atonement, although, she is
unable to change the past. Similarly, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn revolves around Nick and Amy
Dunne s troubled marriage. After Nick s affair with Andie, Amy attempts to seek revenge by
disappearing and falsely accusing Nick of her murder. Nick is forced to defend his innocence to avoid
his execution and is spared this upon Amy s return after her staged ... Show more content on

A person s unreliability leads to the physical and mental isolation of their loved ones. Robbie is sent to

was a statement of fact. ´It was Robbie´ (McEwan, 166). Briony leads everyone to believe that Robbie
is a maniac and her narrow minded perspective makes it factual. Robbie is no longer given the
opportunity to pursue a medical degree as a result of her unreliability, and instead becomes physically

Persuasive Essay Dropout
In the United States alone, approximately 1.2 million students dropout of high school every year. That
means that 7,000 teenagers are dropping their high school education every day. I believe that this is
partially because the dropout age is currently sixteen years old in the majority of states. This alarming
number would only grow if the legal dropout age dropped down to fourteen years old, which is what
many are speculating could happen sometime over the next few years. I think that we could and
should avoid this problem altogether by keeping the dropout age at sixteen years old, if not raising it
to eighteen years old.
My first and primary reason for believing that the dropout age should continue on as 16 years old, if
not older, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many high school dropouts come to regret their decision to dropout later in life once their brains
become more developed. In fact, a study states that more than 74% of people that dropout of high
school come to regret their decision. I believe that if the dropout age to eighteen years old there will
be a significant change in the dropout rate. At that age, the PFC isn t completely there, but it is
definitely more developed. At eighteen years old, one has a better view on life and is able to make a
life altering decision with a clearer head.
According to PBS, the average high school dropout makes approximately $20,241 every year, which
is $10,386 less than someone with a bachelor s degree. This leads me to my second point those who
dropout of high school are practically guaranteed to lead to a less well off lifestyle. The same source
states that the national unemployment rate as of August 2015 was 8.1%. However, this measured to
12% of American citizens who dropped out of high school and only 4.1% with a college degree.
Personally, I believe that most high schoolers don t have a clear view of the future. Many of those that
dropout of high school don t realize how desperately this is going to effect their lives twenty years
from now. This isn t only affecting them, but our country s economy. According to a 2013 study from

Compare And Contrast Greek And Persian Empires
The Greece and Persian Empires There were four great multicultural Empires in our world s history
Ancient Greece, The Roman Empire, Persia and China. I am going to focus on Ancient Greece and the
Persian Empire, what geographical features did each region offer to help the people build these great
empires, what were some of the cultures of this empires, and what changes did they have over time?
Going further into details on the Persian Empire, who were two of the leaders and what contributions
did they make to Persia, what methods did they use to expand the region and gain power? How did the
political system change over time?
Ancient Greece is found to be on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, due to its location it was
possible to trade with other parts of the area and not depend solely on crops grown in the area. The
region of the Mediterranean where Greece is found is on the coast of the Aegean Sea it contains
rugged mountains, and valleys. Being on the coast made the use of ships necessary this also put the
people of Greece at risk for land attacks from armies bigger than the Greek armies. Also the region
was at risk for volcanos, large ocean storms, and catastrophic earthquakes that could destroy cities
without notice. In Persia there were two groups of people who settled the in the region who left a
major impact on the area s history the Medes and the Persians. The Medes were found in the Zagros
Mountains, and the Persians were found lower in the plains along the

Questions On Rational Number Assessment
Rational Number Assessment
Charizma Laughton Australian Catholic University
Teacher report on your student s Rational Number Knowledge and any misconceptions (300 words)
Montana demonstrated a number strategies and skills throughout the rational number interview. She
used appropriate language when referring to fractions. For example, two thirds rather than two over
three and she was able to divide 3 pizzas equally between 5 people using a partitioning method
(cut/divided the 3 pizzas into 5 equal pieces and shared 1/5 a pizza 3 times between the 5 girls). She
was also successful in identifying which decimal was larger when given a choice between two. For
example, selected 0.87 being larger than 0.087 because the number closest to the decimal point is
larger 8 is larger than 0 .
However, when it came to constructing decimals, Montana seemed to view decimal place value in a
different way; she added a zero after the decimal place for tenths, and added three zeros after the
decdimal point when making thousands. For example, two tenths was constructed as .02, twenty seven
tenths as .0.27 and twenty seven thousandths as .00027. The numbers are seen as whole numbers, but
in reverse order. This misconception occurs again when asked to write 6/100 as a decimal and she
wrote .006.
Montana is working towards using effective strategies for comparing fractions. She identified that 2/4
and 4/8 were both halves, therefore, the same (equivalent fractions); she used a

Essay on Censorship and Freedom of Speech
Censorship may be protection from inappropriate materials, but it also limits free speech. For the
limitation of free speech, it is reasonable why people are emphatically against censorship. It is
understood that there is a need to filter some of the materials released in today s society, but too much
is being done by people who have no right meddling with everyone s rights. Civilization has always
been plagued by a never ending battle being fought over what is deemed right and wrong. In today s
culture, censorship oppresses everything in the media. From movies and music to television and even
news stories, most of the content viewed today has been filtered one way or another. Restrictions have
been in place since early societies have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, censorship is in place in more ways than you can imagine. As mentioned previously, movies,
music, television, and more are filtered one way or another. Some people go to such lengths as illegal
means of spreading materials deemed inappropriate for a certain viewing audience. When the United
States was established, the first amendment guaranteed the rights to free speech and free press.
However, it has never been interpreted to mean that all forms of expression are legal (Zorea). The
common misconception is that people believe that all forms of expression are legal, but that has never
been the case, and probably never will be. Intellectual freedom is important because it allows people
to express their ideas or beliefs however they feel is appropriate (Intellectual Freedom Manual). With
censorship, that freedom is stifled and breaches the right everyone has for that intellectual freedom.
Also affecting that freedom is the influence that outside sources can have on your own thoughts and
actions. People tend to rely more on television and other electronic media to give them false ideas or
impressions. Currently, censorship in music is possibly the most relevant form of censorship. One of
the more disturbing signs of censorship in music is a condition nearly snuck into the USA PATRIOT
Act that would allow the government to hack private citizens computers to delete what they consider
to be illegal MP3 song files (Blecha 179).

Analysis Of John Hawthorne s White Whale
Nathaniel Hawthorne is a standout amongst the most productive symbolists in American writing, and
an investigation of his images is important to comprehension his books. As a rule, an image is
something used to remain for something else. In writing, an image is frequently a solid article used to
speak to a thought more theoretical and more extensive in degree and significance regularly an ethical,
religious, or philosophical idea or quality. Images can go from the clearest substitution of one thing for
another, to manifestations as monstrous, complex, and puzzling as Melville s white whale in Moby
Dick. A moral story in writing is a story where characters, articles, and occasions have a shrouded
importance and are utilized to present some widespread lesson. Hawthorne has an immaculate climate
for the images in The Scarlet Letter on the grounds that the Puritans saw the world through moral
story. For them, basic examples, similar to the meteor streaking through the sky, got to be religious or
good understandings for human occasions. Items, for example, the framework, were formal images for
such ideas as sin and contrition. While the Puritans made an interpretation of such customs into good
and severe activities, Hawthorne turns their understandings around in The Scarlet Letter. The Puritan
group sees Hester as a fallen lady, Dimmesdale as a holy person, and would have seen the hidden
Chillingworth as an exploited person a spouse deceived. Rather, Hawthorne

Relative Clause Essay
Introduction
A relative clause is a dependent clause that functions as an adjective; that is, it modifies a noun or

A relative clause will meet three requirements :
First, it contains a subject and verb.
Next, it begins with a relative pronoun (who, whom, whose, that, or which) or a relative adverb (when,
where, or why).
Finally, it functions as an adjective, answering the questions What kind? How many? or Which one?

Literary Analysis of the Tragedy of Julius Caesar
Literary Analysis of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar William Shakespeare wrote his play The Tragedy of
Julius Caesar, so that his readers could have an idea of the lives, wars, and conflicts during the roman
times. Shakespeare may have written the play because of his interest in history. He studied the
writings of the historian Plutarch, who was alive at the same time as Caesar and wrote about his life.
He also needed a job and money, and he had a fear of Queen Elizabeth dying. Shakespeare loved her
and he feared that when she died the arts would flourish, so he wrote stories for her. When a reader

President Obama Signed Into Law The Patient Protection And...
A little over five years ago, President Barack Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act. This was a huge win for the Democratic party, after failing to successfully
reform healthcare during the Clinton Administration. The vast majority of the focus on the bill went to
the major provisions. However, the seldom mentioned COOP program began to make headlines this
year. This program allowed for the creation of state and region wide health insurance cooperatives.
These co ops were to be owned and run by its stakeholders with the intention of providing quality
insurance at a more affordable price. Originally designed to be a replacement for the polarizing public
option, nearly half of the co ops in the program failed in quick succession. There were two primary
causes. From the start the program was fundamentally flawed and the funding that the co ops were
promised simply did not materialize. This leaves Democratic leaders at a crossroads. They can either
fight to fix and save the program, or scrap it and look for something better. Without intervention, the
COOP program will continue to deteriorate and consumers could be hurt. It is vital that the right
lessons are learned from the COOP experiment.
The concept of a health insurance cooperative is not by any means a new one. In fact, Group Health
Cooperative, founded approximately 70 years ago in Seattle, serves as an example of the success that
the cooperative model can provide. The idealized version of

I notice the purpose of this book was to wrote
about Deaf people in a new and different way. The book main focus is that Deafpeople have a
condition that they can t hear. The culture of Deaf people is what both authors want to begin yo betray.
What I found interesting while reading is that the majority of indidivauls within the community of
Deaf people do not join it at birth. While reading these chapters I ve seen both auhtors try to present
the culture from the inside to discover how Deaf people describe themselves and how they think about
their lives.
In chapter 1, two Deaf sisters Helen and Vicki were interviwed by Carol. Their interview stood out to
be the most in the chapter because it showed children spend their time learning what things are
supposed to mean. As Carol interviewed the two Deaf sisters and they both argued about Michael
being deaf or hearing it made me question why they both had a different answer if their both deaf.
Also when Vicki mentioned Michael being Deaf and hearing I noticed you can;t be Deaf and hearing.

The Representation of Children in the Media Essay

I am writing about how children are represented in the media, after a group investigation carried out to
see how they are portrayed in different papers; local newspapers, tabloids and broadsheets. We were
looking to see if newspapers showed positive or negative images of children and how they portrayed
them in general.
In local papers there are usually articles of local news from around the area, items for sale and

and usually contain news about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You often get emotional views of people s life, if sometimes good or bad has happened to a famous
person. You also get a biography or diary about someone s life and how they lived, mostly successful
people or important people who have died. Tabloids do tend to run sensational emotional stories.
Broadsheets are similar to tabloids, but most of the broadsheets present a more balanced view of the
news. They fund to be not as sensational and more factual and informative.
Local papers have more pictures then any other kind of paper, they have more pictures of children,
and the readers are able to see children of their own or children that they know of. In the most positive
pictures you see children achieving or being brilliant. In some pictures you will see children as
victims, but often they will have happy endings. They also show brave little angels that have helped
their community and someone shown as accessories to local heroes or famous people e.g. David
Beckham and his son s Brooklyn and Romeo.
Tabloids often don t have many pictures of children, and it is unusual to see a child achieving
something in a tabloid. The international stories are often extreme and very emotive. The children are
either devils or angels. Tabloids are biased and

movement. That s what needs to be the main focus for this team place emphasis on pace and move the

There is nothing wrong with this team. I mean they re still 33 12 and still maintain the best record in

The main difference between Labov s Speech Community and Ekert s Community of Practice is that
the Community of Practice is defined by more than the linguistics codes that are being used. It is
focused on the concept of doing valuable actions that will embrace the community. In order to be part

Describe the 3 types of membership within a CoP (Wenger, 1998) giving one example of each from
your own personal experience. The three types of membership within a Community of Practice are full

participates in the practices of the community. For example, when a participant is part of a group
project in college, and does all the assignments, attends the meetings and collaborates well with the
other participants, this student is a full participant in his/her community. A peripheral participation has
only partial participation in the process. This sometimes can be seen as a process of learning. For
example, when a person is in a process of learning how to swim, he first watches how it is done and
then tries to do it. Thus, he becomes partial participant. The marginal participation differs from the
peripheral participation by the access in the community. The marginal participant is somewhat
sidelined from the process. For example, when a group of friends are planning to go out to a club, only
the ones that have 21 can go, due to the restrictions of age. The ones that are under 21 are

Key Differences Between Feudalism And Capitalism
Q3. Drawing on Heilbroner, explain the key differences between feudalism and capitalism. Explain
how Heilbroner discusses the rise and establishment of capitalism?
In this short essay, I will explain few key differences between feudalism and capitalism based on
Heilbroner s book. They are as follows: the property rights (Land), the system of wage and labor
(Workers), and the existence of competition. Additionally, I will discuss the rise of capitalism based on
Heilbroner point of view.
Both feudalism and capitalism are defined by many scholars in various ways. In both of these models,
the high class takes advantage of the lower class. Feudalism is an obligational socioeconomic
hierarchical system that structuring the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no property law and decisions likely favored the king and the rich and were thus unfair. As
for capitalism, the land is considered a commodity that can be bought and sold. The legal framework
includes universal enforcement of property rights. Property right not only exists, workers get
standardized legal protection for their property. Landlords own the land and tenants must pay rent.
Second:Workers
In feudalism, the system of wage labor didn t exist. The serf lives off the land and is forced to work in
return, they get food and protection. They don t have a work contract or wages. They do not have the
option to leave, and they work even if the conditions are unbearable. When the land is transferred to
another lord, the serf will have a new lord to obey. Unlike feudalism, in capitalism work is a contract
based between employer and worker, so does have a system of wage labor. Workers had freedom
whether to terminate their contract or not. If the worker does not like their current job, the worker had
some flexibility to decide what to do next, stay or leave. As Adam Smith states If profits or wages are
too low in one trade area, there will be an evacuation of capital and labor until the supply is better

Essay about Why Similarity Doesn t Mean Equality
In David Schmidtz s article Are All Species Equal? he discusses species egalitarianism and if it has
any application or standing in the philosophical discussion of environmental ethics. One of the given
arguments equates speciesism to racism. These two terms, down to their basic definitions, are so
fundamentally different that it is difficult to compare them. Racism is the discrimination of a race of
people based on the culture, physical features and tone of speech among other things. The parameters
in which racism occurs and what determines superiority of one group of people over another is
challenging to translate over into the realm of speciesism. For how are we to determine which traits
are superior? In the Jim Crow era white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not the case, if we were to apply the previous parameters and were to compare oranges to
chimpanzees we simply couldn t. Chimpanzees don t have pollination patterns. The commonality that
arises from making all these decisions about what traits are superior is that the ranking, whatever you
decide it to be, will be subjective and inconsistent. With a lack of a solid system in place, it the
prospect loses credibility. If we equate all species as being equal then to rank them almost completely
undermines the whole notion of being equals in the first place. There are no feasible ways for the
ranking system to be effective. Consider the following situation. A dog and a lizard are drowning in a
pond. Who do you save and how do you decide? Do you consider the lizard s scaly skin and that it
eats flies? Do you weigh that against the dog s agility and general loyalty towards its owner and that
we easily form bonds with them? If we were to decide to save the dog would we be considered to be
committing speciesism? Especially in no win situations such as these the answer is no. We can forgo
the entire idea of species egalitarianism by recognizing and celebrating the differences in life rather
than categorically claiming all are equal in respect. We can t compare parts not because they do not
matter, but because they are all so different.
If we grant the argument that all species are equal then let us refer back to the apples versus oranges

Introduction Of Rail And Wallangarra
Introduction: Rail and Wallangarra
The earliest presence of rail travel in Australia began in 1854, first developed within states to link
major settlements with various resources. The idea of intercolonial transportation began circa 1855: a
network of railways systems crossing the country and connecting major settlements. Railways slowly
expanded as settlements developed further inland, with rail essential in bringing farm and mining
produce to capital cities and ports. Wallangarra, a town situated on the New South Wales border,
200km south west of Brisbane, was one of the first Queensland settlements to establish intercolonial
rail transportation in 1887, and it may have been one of the busiest. Its efforts in connecting two
colonies New South Wales and Queensland post federation held significance in the town s progress
into the 20th century.
Now a heritage listed building and site, the Wallangarra Railway Station has seen an array of change
and excitement in its 100 Years. An inquiry into just how important the station was during colonial
trade and transportation as well as the town s development as a result of its presence was undertaken
through a local site study of the Railway s building and surrounding area. The findings of this inquiry
will be discussed in the following discourse.
1. Colonial and Intercolonial Trade and the Beginning of Wallangarra
In order to understand the purpose and need for the Wallangarra Railway Station [and subsequent

Winter Blast Short Story
You know that moment when you cross the finish line and the adrenaline and excitement rushes over
you? And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I persevered, I accomplished my goals. That
is exactly how I felt two years ago when I crossed my finish line... It started on a chilly February
morning at my church s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had tried to persuade
me all morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the hill.
Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked as she pulled on
her tennis shoes.
I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I crawled out of bed.
After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin and headed towards
the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant opening. We gazed upward as we entered
the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes were many stories up, climbing through the obstacle
courses.
The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It made me feel as
though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes above shook with the wind being
brought in through the holes in the wall.
New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my group of friends
over to the man talking.
After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking. My name is Westley
and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the safety rules you need to know in
order to climb; things like how to attach your harness to the overhead ropes and how to climb up to
the next story.
After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were released to go up to the
first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest as I neared the rope ladder going up to
the first level. I took a deep breath.
Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I slowly climbed
higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep breath and climbed onto the
platform. As I stood up, a climbing instructor attached my harness clamps to the overhead rope.

Intercultural/International Communication
10 June 2012
Cultural conflict and popular culture are two experiences in life that assist in defining intercultural
communication and how its influence affects our daily intercommunication. Cultural conflict is
inevitable as we live out our daily lives in the identities we have selected for ourselves, the identities
relating to our ethnicity and in those identities others have selected for us. These identities are bound
to conflict with another individual s identities which is why there is a need for understanding what
intercultural communication is and how it can be enhanced becomes vital to peaceful living around the
world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Popular culture was demonstrated when the granddaughter was texting during the grandmother s
funeral services; with the gang interaction and the music they played; the encounter on the corner with
the Caucasian teenager walking with Sue and they were stopped by the three African American males
and harassed physically and verbally with race and gender stereotypes and age when Walt came to the
rescue. Walt had a quite a few verbal stereotypes for all of them in addition to using his gun to break
up the conflict. Popular culture
Of the five types of Cultural Conflict the three most significant conflicts in intercultural
communication in the film Gran Torino are found in conflict in values, conflict in goals, and cognitive
conflict. Conflicts in values are the differing ideologies as in philosophy and principles. Two examples
of conflict in values found in the film Gran Torino are:
1. Walt and the priest had different ideologies on life and death. The priest kept approaching Walt with
the offer of confession which he had promised Walt s wife before she died. Walt did not think much of
religion, attending church or confession or the priest. The priest resolved to get Walt into confession
with his philosophy, principles and outlook on life as his religion dictated.
2. Ethnic types of conflict were shown at the family barbeque. Walt accepted Sue s invitation to

Historical Significance Of The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War is a blank page in the history of the U.S. foreign policy. As a matter of fact, there
have been many public and congressional debates about the American intervention in Vietnam and the
morality of the political decision that proved to be fatal for both countries. Undeniably, the Vietnam
War belongs in the period of the Turbulent Sixties which along with other tremendous political events
such as the Civil War, divided the American society for decades. Until today the memory of the war
still haunts the American conscience. Thus, the purpose of the essay is to examine the significance of
the Vietnam War as a collective memory in the American society. Specifically, the main focus will be
on how the remembrance of the Vietnam War, as well as the U.S. policy has been constructed in the ...

From the late twentieth century on, cultural historians and psychologists have stressed the importance
of the memory in an attempt to provide insight to the traumatic past and the process of reconciliation,
both in the political as well as the cultural domain. Furthermore, memory is considered of high
importance when it comes to the formation of identity either for individuals, groups or a nation as a
whole. According to Marita Sturken s statements in her book Tangled Memories: The Vietnam War,
the AIDS Epidemic, and the Politics of Remembering, memory is crucial to the understanding of a
culture precisely because it indicates collective desires, needs, and self definitions (2). Additionally,
memory and history are distinct from cultural memory, which is a field of contested meanings that
interacts with American cultural elements in order to produce concepts of the nation, particularly in
events of trauma, where both the structures and fractures of a culture are exposed (Sturken

  • 2. Uganda In The 1960 s The Republic of Uganda has gone through an economical transformation after its independence from Britain in 1962. Although independence brought change, Uganda struggles as it tries to find its place on the long list of countries with a successful economy. The everyday life of Uganda show its centuries old traditions and history. Culture is much like a log cabin, individual logs put together make the cabin complete. The individual pieces alone are important but when they are together, they create something unique. The individual details in culture include the languages spoken, the daily customs, the multiple religions, the type of government, social classes if existent, history of the country, and geographical location. While each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before their independence from the British in 1962, the Ugandan Army trained to higher standards than practiced today. The Ugandan Army earned international admiration during World War I and World War II. The decline in standards came amid political and economical struggles during the 1960 s. After Uganda gained its independence, the military took another turn for the worst. The morale in all military forces plummeted because British officers retained most command positions. In 1986 the countries leader vowed to improve the education standards for military recruits, improve the standards of discipline, and override regional loyalties that slowed the pace of military improvement. By 1990, there was very little progress made towards those goals. The most recent notable accomplishment of the military was in 2012 when they were able to capture Caesar Acellam, a top military leader in the Lord s Resistance Army. The notable Joseph Kony belongs to the Lord s Resistance Army. The recruitment process is very similar to that of the United States. The Ugandan military has always been an all volunteer force, both before and after their independence. In the recent years, women have been able to enlist, but not hold positions of command. The minimum age for enlistment is seventeen and the maximum age allowed is twenty five. All military recruits must have an education level equivalent to that of a seventh grader. During the 1970 s, there was a brief period where enlistment became mandatory along with the educational requirement suspended. The contractual requirement is either five or nine years, although this is normally ignored allowing service members to get out early. According to Flood, After independence, life for the common soldier became desperate, and increasingly so in the 1970 s and 1980 s . • 3. Character Analysis Of Mrs. Dalloway, By Virginia Woolf Written by Virginia Woolf, Mrs. Dalloway is a fictional novel that concentrates on the daily encounters of Clarissa Dalloway and her flashbacks. Woolf s stream of consciousness technique and third person narration gives the reader an insight into the doings and feelings of the various characters in the novel. Woolf s commentary focuses on the oppression that resulted from World War I. This is seen primarily in Septimus Warren Smith, who suffers from shell shock and serves as a double of Clarissa. On a Wednesday in June, Clarissa, who is currently 52 years old, introduces the readers to a plethora of streets in Westminster and also the up scale guests who will be attending her party that evening. Clarissa is known for her lavish parties, thrown for the purpose of allowing important people to chat, while maintaining her upper class image that was gained through her marriage with Mr. Dalloway. The plot of the novel is simple, yet readers know intricate details about the characters through their thoughts. In Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf uses Clarissa s isolation, her realization of life and death, and the relationships between the characters in a single day during the post World War I era to express the feelings and thoughts of Clarissa, who hears the striking of Big Ben and reflects upon her past. Mrs. Dalloway, although married to Richard Dalloway and living in an apartment with Sally Seton, displays signs of isolation and loneliness. Her parties are a way for her to ... • 4. The Virginia Statue For Religious Freedom Essay In 1832, a contractor that went by the name of Philip Duffy owned a stretch of a railroad line about thirty miles west of Philadelphia, Mile 59. He hired countless Irish Catholic immigrants to work for him and continue to build the line for the Philadelphia and Columbia railroad, now connecting Philadelphia to the Main Line. Not only were the working conditions terrible, with the wooded hills and ravines, but less than two months after the workers came to Philadelphia, they were assumed to have died from the Cholera outbreak that was a worldwide pandemic for the second time. On June 23, Duffy met an arriving bark called the John Stamp on the Philadelphia docks that had sailed from Derry in April with a shipload of Irish laborers, mainly Catholics from Donegal, Tyrone, and Derry. He acquired his work crew for mile 59 primarily from the men of the John Stamp. The site eventually was named Duffy s Cut for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Essay Dualism in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho The characters in Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho (1960) each have a dual nature that is masterfully portrayed through character development and use of mirrors throughout the film. The very first shot in Psycho is zooming in from an open view of the city where it is a bright and sunny day. As the shot zooms in further and further it comes into a dark and shaded room that shows Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) and Sam Loomis (John Gavin) having an affair in a undisclosed hotel. This is dualistic image is just one example of many that Hitchcock has placed in this film. Marion Crane is the first main character that is focused upon for the first half of Psycho. Marion s death is very symbolic and dualistic in a multitude of ways. The fact that Marion is nonetheless murdered after her self realization suggests that neither she nor the society that produced her is recuperable (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] Once Marion had made that fatal mistake to become a criminal, she was destined to die as a criminal, with no chance of salvation. This is very dualistic of the ending of the frontier, which was right around the time Psycho was produced. the movement of the film is steadily downward and inward, away from the feeling of daylight, abundance, and expanse to a nightmarish claustrophobia that exteriorizes the unconscious mind. (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] The image of the West being a gigantic open expanse was coming to an end and Hitchcock showed that the frontier was finished and there was no chance of it coming back. Hitchcock places a large amount of dualism between the characters of Marion, Sam, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), and Lila Crane (Vera Miles). The first couple, Sam and Marion, engenders the second, Norman and Marion: Norman has thus taken the place of Sam. Yet he has actually, diegetically speaking, taken the place of Marion, given the mirror dialectic between the sexes and their psychic structurations. (Deutalbaum, Poague 357) [Bellour 357] The couple of Marion and Sam never got a chance to be married, but as the film goes through the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tet Offensive Tactics While serving in the Marine Corps infantry, it was drilled into my head that in order to win on the battlefield, one needed to strike faster, harder, and more aggressive than the enemy. These tactics have proven to be very efficient on the front lines, and have won countless battles for many U.S. troops. Though our actions on the front lines may be very effective, they are not the only deciding factors in winning the war. Without the support from the people back home, our battlefield objectives would be very hard to obtain. Next, I will be discussing the events of the Tet Offensive and the battles that followed. The massive attack launched against U.S. troops during the Tet Offensive caused a shift in the war that had many negative outcomes for America. Following the events of the Tet Offensive, I will discuss the media s role in the conflict. The Vietnam War was the first American war to be broadcasted for all to see. Many antiwar protests took place at universities, such as the University of South Carolina, and in the nation s capital. • 9. Testing Various Disinfectants On Bacteria Covered... Disinfectants vs. Bacteria This project involves testing various disinfectants on bacteria covered toothbrushes to see which method is most effective. The three main methods of disinfectants are hydrogen peroxide, U.V rays to kill bacteria, and antibacterial soap. Learning what is in the various disinfectants that eliminate bacteria is beneficial to understanding the experiment. Bacteria are single celled organisms that reproduce quickly. Pathogens are bacteria that cause sickness. Once the body is infected with pathogens, those bacteria reproduce and grow inside of cells in the body. As they grow, certain bacteria can make toxins; those toxins can damage the body s cells. Symptoms of a sickness can be caused by those toxins. Pathogens can be spread from one person to another through physical contact or contact with bodily fluids. Bacteria however can be killed by sterilization, cold temperatures, antiseptics, disinfectants, and pasteurization. The antibacterial soap mentioned is a disinfectant that reduces bacteria, which therefore reduces chance of infection. Hydrogen peroxide is an antiseptic that reduces bacteria. The difference between antibacterial soap and normal hand soap is triclosan or triclocarbon. Triclosan is an antibacterial compound in antibacterial soap and a potent synthetic chemical. The text states, Triclosan is classified as a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent because it is effective against a wide range of microbes; the term antimicrobial implies ... This phrase can be connected to the two literary poems, The Lokia, written by Graciela Huinao and Like the Leaves poet by Humberto Ak abal. In The Lokia, expresses the grief of the Native Americans of losing their properties to the Europeans. Similarity, the second poem Like the Leaves, illustrates that a tree is a figure of a Native American losing their culture and themselves to the injustices of their society. Both of these two poems are then connected to a historical text, Canada s Hidden History, My Mother and Me, authored by Gabrielle Scrimshaw. In Canada s Hidden History, My Mother and Me communicate the injustice events of the Native Americans has to endure; only lived the role of a bystander. In the two literary poems, The Lokia, written by Graciela Huinao and Like the Leaves by Humberto Ak abal, the two authors used symbolism to convey the scars of the Native American society, which it can never be healed. Of course, one can find examples of these persuasive techniques in everyday life situations. However, if there is a single location where one can find examples of these principles occurring at the same time, it would be at farmer s market. That would have made it more likely for me to buy a full bottle of at least one sauce. After this encounter, I was very convinced to buy a bottle, but I did not do so. This was because I did not need hot sauce and I wanted to spend my money on other things. The conflict perspective highlights the United States fee for service model and how this commodifies healthcare. This creates a two tier health care system in which powerful and wealthy people enjoy better healthcare outcomes than people who lack funds and power. This tiered system leads to health care disparities (Henslin, 2011). Intersectionality is a conflict perspective theory that created a framework for further analyses of where health care disparities originate. Lisa Bowleg describes intersectionality theory as a way for understanding how multiple social identities such as race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and disability intersect at the micro level of individual experience to ... This is evidenced by the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment (Chaitoff, Wickizer, White, 2011). In this experiment African American males were left untreated to observe the disease process of syphilis. This continued for many years and eroded the trust of African Americans in the healthcare system. This can be used as a framework for why African Americans do not utilize healthcare services at the same rate and do not trust healthcare providers (Chaitoff et al., 2011). This lack of utilization and trust translates into healthcare disparities by waiting for acute crisis to seek out care instead of preventative treatment (Chaitoff et al., ... That means that 7,000 teenagers are dropping their high school education every day. I believe that this is partially because the dropout age is currently sixteen years old in the majority of states. This alarming number would only grow if the legal dropout age dropped down to fourteen years old, which is what many are speculating could happen sometime over the next few years. She used appropriate language when referring to fractions. For example, two thirds rather than two over three and she was able to divide 3 pizzas equally between 5 people using a partitioning method (cut/divided the 3 pizzas into 5 equal pieces and shared 1/5 a pizza 3 times between the 5 girls). She was also successful in identifying which decimal was larger when given a choice between two. For example, selected 0.87 being larger than 0.087 because the number closest to the decimal point is larger 8 is larger than 0 . However, when it came to constructing decimals, Montana seemed to view decimal place value in a different way; she added a zero after the decimal place for tenths, and added three zeros after the decdimal point when making thousands. For example, two tenths was constructed as .02, twenty seven tenths as .0.27 and twenty seven thousandths as .00027. The numbers are seen as whole numbers, but in reverse order. This misconception occurs again when asked to write 6/100 as a decimal and she wrote .006. Montana is working towards using effective strategies for comparing fractions. She identified that 2/4 and 4/8 were both halves, therefore, the same (equivalent fractions); she used a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the limitation of free speech, it is reasonable why people are emphatically against censorship. It is understood that there is a need to filter some of the materials released in today s society, but too much is being done by people who have no right meddling with everyone s rights. Civilization has always been plagued by a never ending battle being fought over what is deemed right and wrong. In today s culture, censorship oppresses everything in the media. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, censorship is in place in more ways than you can imagine. As mentioned previously, movies, music, television, and more are filtered one way or another. Some people go to such lengths as illegal means of spreading materials deemed inappropriate for a certain viewing audience. When the United States was established, the first amendment guaranteed the rights to free speech and free press. However, it has never been interpreted to mean that all forms of expression are legal (Zorea). The common misconception is that people believe that all forms of expression are legal, but that has never been the case, and probably never will be. Intellectual freedom is important because it allows people to express their ideas or beliefs however they feel is appropriate (Intellectual Freedom Manual). With censorship, that freedom is stifled and breaches the right everyone has for that intellectual freedom. Also affecting that freedom is the influence that outside sources can have on your own thoughts and actions. People tend to rely more on television and other electronic media to give them false ideas or impressions. Currently, censorship in music is possibly the most relevant form of censorship. One of the more disturbing signs of censorship in music is a condition nearly snuck into the USA PATRIOT Act that would allow the government to hack private citizens computers to delete what they consider to be illegal MP3 song files (Blecha 179). ... • 27. Analysis Of John Hawthorne s White Whale Nathaniel Hawthorne is a standout amongst the most productive symbolists in American writing, and an investigation of his images is important to comprehension his books. As a rule, an image is something used to remain for something else. In writing, an image is frequently a solid article used to speak to a thought more theoretical and more extensive in degree and significance regularly an ethical, religious, or philosophical idea or quality. Images can go from the clearest substitution of one thing for another, to manifestations as monstrous, complex, and puzzling as Melville s white whale in Moby Dick. A moral story in writing is a story where characters, articles, and occasions have a shrouded importance and are utilized to present some widespread lesson. Hawthorne has an immaculate climate for the images in The Scarlet Letter on the grounds that the Puritans saw the world through moral story. For them, basic examples, similar to the meteor streaking through the sky, got to be religious or good understandings for human occasions. Items, for example, the framework, were formal images for such ideas as sin and contrition. While the Puritans made an interpretation of such customs into good and severe activities, Hawthorne turns their understandings around in The Scarlet Letter. The Puritan group sees Hester as a fallen lady, Dimmesdale as a holy person, and would have seen the hidden Chillingworth as an exploited person a spouse deceived. Rather, Hawthorne ... This was a huge win for the Democratic party, after failing to successfully reform healthcare during the Clinton Administration. The vast majority of the focus on the bill went to the major provisions. However, the seldom mentioned COOP program began to make headlines this year. This program allowed for the creation of state and region wide health insurance cooperatives. These co ops were to be owned and run by its stakeholders with the intention of providing quality insurance at a more affordable price. Originally designed to be a replacement for the polarizing public option, nearly half of the co ops in the program failed in quick succession. There were two primary causes. From the start the program was fundamentally flawed and the funding that the co ops were promised simply did not materialize. This leaves Democratic leaders at a crossroads. They can either fight to fix and save the program, or scrap it and look for something better. Without intervention, the COOP program will continue to deteriorate and consumers could be hurt. It is vital that the right lessons are learned from the COOP experiment. The concept of a health insurance cooperative is not by any means a new one. Explain how Heilbroner discusses the rise and establishment of capitalism? In this short essay, I will explain few key differences between feudalism and capitalism based on Heilbroner s book. They are as follows: the property rights (Land), the system of wage and labor (Workers), and the existence of competition. Additionally, I will discuss the rise of capitalism based on Heilbroner point of view. Both feudalism and capitalism are defined by many scholars in various ways. In both of these models, the high class takes advantage of the lower class. Feudalism is an obligational socioeconomic hierarchical system that structuring the relationship ... As for capitalism, the land is considered a commodity that can be bought and sold. The legal framework includes universal enforcement of property rights. Property right not only exists, workers get standardized legal protection for their property. Landlords own the land and tenants must pay rent. Second:Workers In feudalism, the system of wage labor didn t exist. The serf lives off the land and is forced to work in return, they get food and protection. They don t have a work contract or wages. They do not have the option to leave, and they work even if the conditions are unbearable. When the land is transferred to another lord, the serf will have a new lord to obey. Unlike feudalism, in capitalism work is a contract based between employer and worker, so does have a system of wage labor. Workers had freedom whether to terminate their contract or not. If the worker does not like their current job, the worker had some flexibility to decide what to do next, stay or leave. As Adam Smith states If profits or wages are too low in one trade area, there will be an evacuation of capital and labor until the supply is better adjusted to the demand (Heilbroner, 1999) In regard to buying and selling of labor power. In feudalism, buying and selling labor power wasn t an option. A serf was born into the land and couldn t leave the manor and sell their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Essay about Why Similarity Doesn t Mean Equality In David Schmidtz s article Are All Species Equal? he discusses species egalitarianism and if it has any application or standing in the philosophical discussion of environmental ethics. One of the given arguments equates speciesism to racism. These two terms, down to their basic definitions, are so fundamentally different that it is difficult to compare them. Racism is the discrimination of a race of people based on the culture, physical features and tone of speech among other things. The parameters in which racism occurs and what determines superiority of one group of people over another is challenging to translate over into the realm of speciesism. For how are we to determine which traits are superior? In the Jim Crow era white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is not the case, if we were to apply the previous parameters and were to compare oranges to chimpanzees we simply couldn t. Chimpanzees don t have pollination patterns. The commonality that arises from making all these decisions about what traits are superior is that the ranking, whatever you decide it to be, will be subjective and inconsistent. With a lack of a solid system in place, it the prospect loses credibility. If we equate all species as being equal then to rank them almost completely undermines the whole notion of being equals in the first place. There are no feasible ways for the ranking system to be effective. Consider the following situation. A dog and a lizard are drowning in a pond. Who do you save and how do you decide? Do you consider the lizard s scaly skin and that it eats flies? Do you weigh that against the dog s agility and general loyalty towards its owner and that we easily form bonds with them? If we were to decide to save the dog would we be considered to be committing speciesism? Especially in no win situations such as these the answer is no. We can forgo the entire idea of species egalitarianism by recognizing and celebrating the differences in life rather than categorically claiming all are equal in respect. We can t compare parts not because they do not matter, but because they are all so different. If we grant the argument that all species are equal then let us refer back to the apples versus oranges ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Introduction Of Rail And Wallangarra Introduction: Rail and Wallangarra The earliest presence of rail travel in Australia began in 1854, first developed within states to link major settlements with various resources. The idea of intercolonial transportation began circa 1855: a network of railways systems crossing the country and connecting major settlements. Railways slowly expanded as settlements developed further inland, with rail essential in bringing farm and mining produce to capital cities and ports. Wallangarra, a town situated on the New South Wales border, 200km south west of Brisbane, was one of the first Queensland settlements to establish intercolonial rail transportation in 1887, and it may have been one of the busiest. Its efforts in connecting two colonies New South Wales and Queensland post federation held significance in the town s progress into the 20th century. Now a heritage listed building and site, the Wallangarra Railway Station has seen an array of change and excitement in its 100 Years. An inquiry into just how important the station was during colonial trade and transportation as well as the town s development as a result of its presence was undertaken through a local site study of the Railway s building and surrounding area. The findings of this inquiry will be discussed in the following discourse. 1. Colonial and Intercolonial Trade and the Beginning of Wallangarra In order to understand the purpose and need for the Wallangarra Railway Station [and subsequent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Winter Blast Short Story You know that moment when you cross the finish line and the adrenaline and excitement rushes over you? And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I persevered, I accomplished my goals. That is exactly how I felt two years ago when I crossed my finish line... It started on a chilly February morning at my church s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had tried to persuade me all morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the hill. Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked as she pulled on her tennis shoes. I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I crawled out of bed. After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin and headed towards the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant opening. We gazed upward as we entered the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes were many stories up, climbing through the obstacle courses. The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It made me feel as though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes above shook with the wind being brought in through the holes in the wall. New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my group of friends over to the man talking. After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking. My name is Westley and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the safety rules you need to know in order to climb; things like how to attach your harness to the overhead ropes and how to climb up to the next story. After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were released to go up to the first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest as I neared the rope ladder going up to the first level. I took a deep breath. Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I slowly climbed higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep breath and climbed onto the platform. As I stood up, a climbing instructor attached my harness clamps to the overhead rope. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Walt did not think much of religion, attending church or confession or the priest. • 47. Historical Significance Of The Vietnam War The Vietnam War is a blank page in the history of the U.S. foreign policy. As a matter of fact, there have been many public and congressional debates about the American intervention in Vietnam and the morality of the political decision that proved to be fatal for both countries. Undeniably, the Vietnam War belongs in the period of the Turbulent Sixties which along with other tremendous political events such as the Civil War, divided the American society for decades. Until today the memory of the war still haunts the American conscience. Thus, the purpose of the essay is to examine the significance of the Vietnam War as a collective memory in the American society. Specifically, the main focus will be on how the remembrance of the Vietnam War, as well as the U.S. policy has been constructed in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the late twentieth century on, cultural historians and psychologists have stressed the importance of the memory in an attempt to provide insight to the traumatic past and the process of reconciliation, both in the political as well as the cultural domain. Furthermore, memory is considered of high importance when it comes to the formation of identity either for individuals, groups or a nation as a whole. According to Marita Sturken s statements in her book Tangled Memories: The Vietnam War, the AIDS Epidemic, and the Politics of Remembering, memory is crucial to the understanding of a culture precisely because it indicates collective desires, needs, and self definitions (2). Additionally, memory and history are distinct from cultural memory, which is a field of contested meanings that interacts with American cultural elements in order to produce concepts of the nation, particularly in events of trauma, where both the structures and fractures of a culture are exposed (Sturken ...
