My Experience In My Family
The environment in which I was raised was very thrilling. My family and close friends have had
such an impact on my life and I ll always be so grateful for them. They are very encouraging and
always keep an open mind. I ve learned so much within my seventeen years of life. As I ve been
growing up they ve helped me realize that It s okay if it s not right just keep moving and don t
take the melancholy parts of life too hard, always learn to be and have a sanguine attitude. They
re always proud of me no matter what I do or who I am. Growing up it was a must to have a
celebration no matter where or what it was. Every weekend my dad would go outside and blast
music up until two or three in the morning. He always told me that life is kind of like a party so
I need to learn to enjoy it. These celebrations meant so much to me because we d always end up
having hearty profound conversations. We d always talk about how either he s so proud of me or
he share stories of his childhood and tell me i m doing what he can t. I think that s why it means
so much to me because the fact that I m making my parents proud and doing what they can t means
the world to the both of us and I feel honored that, that s what I m doing. Just last night I told my
parents that I was thinking about enlisting into the Air Force. In my head I thought that they d be
taken aback and startled by me even thinking about it but, their reaction was completely different
than what I expected. Both, my mom and dad,

What Is The Theme In Sestina
Hidden between the thirty nine lines of Sestina, lay some major themes in literature. Even when the
September rain falls and in the failing light , the house is still a secure and warm place. But where
is this sense of comfort in Sestina? It appears that even though both the grandmother and the child
are in the chilly house, they are far apart from each other. She busies herself and tries to hide her
emotions while it draws in the other end of the kitchen. The grandmother s actions create a sense of
secrecy and hint that she hides something. Despite the brief moments of contact when showing the
picture the child drew, the two characters are mentally immersed in their own worlds. Another

She successfully creates a mournful tone by putting tears as one of the six final words. The
mood is led by feelings of sadness and sorrow. However, the reader does not know why. Bishop
keeps this sense of secrecy by revealing the grief but not the reason behind it. She uses visual
imagery to establish a simple, falsely harmonic domestic scene. The tension in the house is hidden
behind the silence in it. Bishop personifies the objects in the house to break it. Furthermore, the
words of the objects might clarify what is the reason for the grandmother s mood: It was to be.
Says the Marvel Stove. I know what I know, says the almanac. Apparently, something
predetermined has happened which relates to the theme of change, discussed in the previous
section. This theme is closely related to the role of the almanac. Its function is to predict the
weather for the next year. Additionally, its importance in the poem shows the role of the weather
in the grandmother s life. The hanging almanac is associated with a bird using the simile birdlike .
The anaphora hovers suggests that it has control over the child and the grandmother. Again, with
the use of vivid language, Bishops includes the almanac in the scene: the little moons fall down
like tears/ from between the pages of the almanac . The moons which resemble tears add up to the
sense of sadness in the poem. Additionally, the

The Story Of The Aphorism
Until lions tell their stories, tales of hunting will glorify the hunter. African Proverb The Aphorism
Until lions tell their stories, tales of hunting will glorify the hunter. , stood out to me among the
other aphorisms because it really reflects how we perceive stories, as well as the people who tell
them. In the same manner, it demonstrates how hearing both sides of a story is crucial to making
an accurate judgement while remaining unbiased. Studying this aphorism in a literal sense, we
would see precisely the bias in the perceptions we all have. When hunters disclose the stories of
their kills, they never mention anything that would make them seem any less god like among their
peers. They make a point to seem as virtuous, and honorable

A Humean Critique of Descartes Essay
A Humean Critique of Descartes
Montreal has big potholes. Lots of them. If one is to truly understand the philosophy of Hume and
Descartes, one must understand what they would do with crummy roads as civil engineers in
Montreal. Hume would probably repave the roads based on the success of past designs and the
results of empirical data. Descartes, on the other hand, would probably leave nothing unscathed
after attacking the problem with reason, scrapping the existing roadmap and re building roads with
new foundations and new directions. This allegory underlines a central question of a Hume
Descartes comparison: if Hume s road to knowledge needs improvement, does Descartes know
where to start or where he is going? The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes used relations of ideas as the foundation for his method for acquiring knowledge.
Descartes writes that disciplines which rely on composite things are doubtful, and arithmetic and
geometry contain something certain and indubitable (Descartes 61). For example, 2+3=5 is a
relation of ideas because 2+3 #8800;5 is a contradiction. The Discourse on Method constitutes a
series of demonstrative reasonings. For Descartes, knowledge is clarity and distinctness, and
demonstrative, mathematical reasoning pave the way toward this knowledge. Descartes thought
that logical deduction from first principles could uncover a whole series of truths about the world.
Hume rejects the use of relations of ideas to acquire knowledge and instead turns to
accumulation of data. Hume writes that demonstrative reasoning fails to uncover the relation
which governs our understanding of matter of fact: cause and effect. A priori reasoning which
ignores experience cannot draw any inference concerning real existence and matter of fact
(Hume17). This is the central proposition of the Inquiry: causes and effects are discoverable, not
by reason, but by experience (17). For Hume, empiricism paves the way to knowledge and
custom, the codified accumulation of knowledge, serves as the great guide of human life (28).
Knowledge is simply a belief reinforced by experience a far cry from the Cartesian certainty and
clarity. The collection of

as Don t Speak , Sunday Morning , and Hey You! , chronicle the ups and downs of their relationship.
During mid 1995, No Doubt and rock band Goo Goo Dolls went on tour opening for alternative

Salems lot was a book with a lot of different things going on. This book had a creepy setting to it,
they lived in a place that was dark and unusual. Eventually they start to realize what is going on in
the town of Jerusalem. Everything started to go from bad, to even more bad, to worse. Later on in
the book, they start to confront the vampireand get rid of the, but it turns bad. In this book there is
a lot going on that is supernatural. Something that is supernatural would be how there are
vampires. The vampires in this book give it a creepy setting and they were saying how they want

Salinger s Short Story Analysis
Salinger s dialogue that reveals his character s innermost workings, and he does so despite the
swarm of academics that rally against him. High school writing classes across the country are
fighting the perceived menace of the word said. They print lists of alternate verbs, hang posters
that say Said is Dead, and push students to page through thesauruses, creating an unbearable tide
of big word writers afraid to use a four letter word. In this rising tide Salinger s writing is all the
more refreshing, for he is the patron saint of Said. People don t sputter in Salinger s short stories.

There s an unwritten law that people in a certain social or financial bracket can name drop as
much as they like just as long as they say something terribly disparaging about the person as soon
as they ve dropped his name that he s a bastard or a nymphomaniac or takes dope all the time or

Franny s response is a series of fragments and broken off sentences that span two pages. Two
concepts are communicated simultaneously. First, the content of Franny s speech. Second, the
back last or second guessing that goes on within Franny s head. The first is the more well known
and more controversial of the two. Franny has been critiqued for so called shallow concerns. John
Updike famously referred to Franny as, a pretty college girl passing though a plausible moment of
disgust in his New York Times review of Franny and Zooey
. He calls Franny pretty to demean her
intelligence. He calls her girl to demean her perspective. His use of plausible indicates that he
finds her character understandable. John Updike may be a wonderful author and an eloquent
reviewer, but he will never understand Franny. I understood her when I read Franny for the first
time. There is no trick to it, it is simply that she was speaking for me. Updike, well, perhaps Lane
was speaking for him. Throughout lunch Lane tries to teach, tame, and turn Franny into what he

Exchange Rate Volatility Measure And Relative Price
3.2 Exchange Rate Volatility measure and relative price An important issue in this topic is how to
choose the appropriate technique to estimate the exchange rate volatility. However, wide variety of
measures have been discussing in the literature, but there is no right or wrong measure of
exchange rate volatility. Mckenzie (1999) provides a brief over view of different methods to
measure exchange ratevolatility, such average absolute difference between the previous forward and
current spot rate, variance of the spot exchange rate around its trend, absolute percentage change of
the exchange rate and the moving average of the standard deviationof the exchange rate. A moving
standard deviation of nominal or real exchange rate seems to be the most commonly used method
in the empirical literature. Hence, we will construct the moving average standard deviation of the
monthly real exchange rate volatility with the same spirit as Serenis and Tsounis (2014) and a
moving standard deviation of real exchange rate can be expressed as:
Where R_t is logarithm of nominal or real exchange rate and m is the number of periods which
can be range from 4 to 12.In this paper, we will use the moving average of the standard deviation
of exchange rate as the measure of exchange rate volatility by using the real exchange rate and the
order m is set to be 12. Koray and Lastrepes (1989) have shown that the moving average of the
standard deviation of the exchange rate captures the variation in the

Affluenza, The Truman Show
In everyday life you are exposed to media. The media uses techniques such as: propaganda, product
placement, and facts to alter how you view a certain thing. You may not realize how the media
twist and turns such little details to change your perception. My personal view on many things were
changed in time as little as a week. We watched Affluenza, The Truman Show, and many
documentary s that showed how the mediacan change how you think. One technique that many
Medias use is advertisement. They use advertisement to get you to buy whatever they are trying to
sell. Most advertisements use statistics that are realistic, scare tactics, product placement, and
some even show bias toward another. In the Truman Show, Truman s wife was advertising coco
and a knife. She kept repeating that, that was what Truman drank and used to cook with. She made
sure the label was facing forward when she was talking about it, this is an example of product
placement. This technique of using advertisement was to pull the viewers watching the show to go
out and buy the items. They may also squeeze in sponsors that you may not even realize. For
example in the movie elf Coca Cola was hidden throughout the movie, but was never talked about
generally. It catches many eyes and promotes the product itself without having to even mention it....

cool if you don t have it. This technique causes many people to go and buy the new item because
it s newer and They will be accepted if they buy it . Affluenza also explain how people seek self

What Is The Atomic Bomb Inhumane
One major argument for the use of the atomic bomb was that it would save thousands, if not,
millions of U.S. and Japanese lives. With a U.S. invasion set for November of 1945, it was
predicted that nearly a million U.S. soldiers would be lost, and the entire population of Japan s
main inland would suffer causalities. We believed that thousands of civilian lives were worth our
own. The sacrifice of these individuals was worth it all. Where does morality come into play? How
does one decide what lives matter and which ones do not? I believe that the atomic bomb was
inhumane, more so for the long term environmental, social, and health effects which took place.
The destructive effects of the bomb had three phases: a fireball that hit temperatures

Influence of the Western War on Current US Action
How western war influence current US action Afghanistan Iraq
Introduction
Cambridge Illustrated History of Warfare: The Triumph of the West published in 1995, edited by
Geoffrey Parker has explained a number of factors that have played a part in the dominance of the
western way of war. The western way included in here is more about the dominance of the western
culture or the European culture in wars as compared to the other factors that may include
technology or finance. Five main foundations according to Parker can define the western way of
war. These factors include being superior in military and war based technology, superior military
training and discipline, increased reliance on military theory, an increased competition between
European states that lead to increased military innovation and lastly, military innovation by
adoption of new and better technology (Parker, 2005, p. 67).
The five foundations of western war have helped US in gaining victory over countries like Iraq and
Afghanistan. The main aim of the paper will be to highlight how these five main factors play
important roles in the dominance of a country over another during a war. How the countries like
Iraq and Afghanistan are failing against the more powerful US army based on Parker s five
foundations of a western war will be considered in the paper.
These days one of the most important ongoing wars includes war against terrorism initiated by US
against the militants in Iraq and Afghanistan. One

In the play much a do about nothing by Shakespeare Don John is played as the bastard brother of
Don Pedro. In most of Shakespeare s comedies there will always be an evil man and in this play
Don John is the evil character. In this scene Don John tells Claudio that his bride to be (Hero) is
not a pure women. He does this because he fought a civil war against his brother (Don Pedro)
and Claudio was the main here of this war, he lost the war and seeks revenge. Shakespeare makes
the scene dramatic by adding unnecessary words to a character speech a

may think I love you not. Let that appear hereafter, and aim better at me by that I now will

your ensuing marriage surely suit ill spent labor ill bestowed. This quotation is another form
dramatic irony because he tells his brother how much he loves him and that after he tells him
this news he will trust him more and will see him as a better person. At this point the audience
knows that he is trying to lie his way into tricking poor Claudio that Hero has been sleeping with
men. This makes some audience members angry and for some others it makes them happy
because the climax of the play is about to begin. I came here to tell you I ll make this short, since
she s already been talked about for too long the lady is unfaithful. Shakespeare deliberately
shortens Don John s speeches to not give away a lot of information about his evil plan so that he
leaves the audience questioning. This quotation also shows the male vs. female honor because
Benedick has affairs with many women and no man complains only Beatrice does, but when Hero
is accused of having an affair with another man when she is not even wedded her wedding would
get cancelled. This is because in the 17th century women were meant to be

The Reality Of Time And Space
It is paradoxical to have a course, which revolves round the corrosiveness of faulted Western
notions of time and its depiction through abstraction, identify itself with an abstract title but argue
for the concreteness and tangibility of the portrayal of time and space. A Place Beyond Time does
just that. Containing a vastly abstract title, A Place Beyond Timemay at first glance appear to
properly relate time as a tangent notion with space. Upon further contemplation, however, it
becomes patent that A Place Beyond Time possesses a conspicuous absence present in its
philosophy of aloofness from intangibility. And although the name of the course attempts to tackle
and manifest the complications of abstract and concrete time, it is through its lack of definition
and precision, lack of possession, and lack of sensation of repetition that A Place Beyond Time
fails to properly capitalize on this dilemma. In scrutiny, A in A Place Beyond Time appears to breed
the idea of time in any place any where, albeit inaccurate. Which place? True, however, that the use
of A allows for intrigue and mystery. In any other circumstance, other than specificity, the use of A
is better. Perhaps, through the use of a, the title indeed attempts to capture suspense and mystery to
represent the obscure connections of space and time in the abstract. That of which it effectively
executes. The course title, nevertheless, does not zero in on specificity and detachment from
generic description. The

Essay about Why we dropped the Atomic Bomb
Why we dropped the Atomic Bomb The dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
in August of 1945 was a definite turning point in the Pacific War of World War II. Earlier that year,
Germany had been defeated and the world then turned its attention to the Pacific war. Most history
books state the argument that the dropping of the atomic bombson Japan was necessary to stop the
war in order to save thousands of lives of American troops that were planning to invade Japan. Had
the bombs not been employed (so the wisdom goes), an enormous number of American troops
would have perished in an inevitable amphibious operation against the Japanesemainland.

The B 29, an aircraft designed to fly long distances without refueling, began to systematically bomb
Japan. It was the B 29 that flew the atomic bombs to Japan. This aircraft took the war home to

The B 29 firebombings on Tokyo and the effective blockade of supplies for Japan by the
American submarines weakened the Japanese empire. Meanwhile, the Americans troops and
back home were fed the idea that the Japanese would never surrender and the war would go on
forever. But in fact, the Japanese had sent peace feelers to the West as early as 1942, only six
months after the December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. More would come in a flood long before
the fateful use of the atomic bombs. (McManus 1)
Even before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese were divided into two groups.
The peace party included the Emperor Hirohito and officers in the navy. The war party , headed
by Army leader Tojo, included fanatical military members, believed that Japan s empire should
cover all the islands of the pacific and were responsible for the attack on the navy base in Pearl

The First Mutual Insurance Company
Benjamin Franklin helped to establish in 1752, what it would be the first mutual insurance

a system that would compensate their citizens in case any injury, accident or loss happen to them. It
wasn t until 1735 the first underwrote fire insurancecompany was created; in Charleston, South

The New Public Management Approach to Regulations
Laws, laws, laws, are something that America has strived to uphold over the years in order to be
successful. That will be the first subject of our questions today. I will give insight to whether NPM
can coincide in a regulatory environment where legal and political approaches are often controlling.
In order to answer this question, we must first look at what actually foster s the regulatory
environment.
Since the origins of regulations here in America, I believe federal organizations have had the very
best intentions. During the industrial revolution, America was dramatically changed forever. From
an economical and technological standpoint, we would never interact the same way again. The text
illustrates a fantastic point about agriculture stating, We depend upon farmers and food handlers;
however, we do not personally know these individuals. (Rosenbloom) During the Industrial
Revolution, markets just became too unpredictable; therefore, the federal government decided to
step in to become that third party watch dog. Personally, it is only fair that a third party looks out
for our safety. Most of the time we think of federal regulation as product safety, however, it is much
more than that. Government regulations are involved in several different sectors, including: market
failure, environmental protection, employment regulation, administration of regulation, political
patterns, majoritarian politics, interest group politics, client politics, entrepreneurial politics, and

Analysis Of East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
Steinbeck s own family and their dreams was a great inspiration for his multi generational novel
East of Eden. His maternal grandfather Samuel Hamilton emigrated from Ireland in the 19th
century to buy land, build a ranch and raise his family in Salinas Valley. From an online article
John Steinbeck s Derry Roots we find out that Samuel Hamilton was born at Ballykelly on 7
October 1830... Samuel emigrated at the age of 17, at the height of the Great Famine, to New
York where he married a young Irish girl, Elizabeth Fagan in the summer of 1849. They came to
California and set up a ranch in the foothills of the Salinas Valley. When Samuel came to
California, all the fertile land was taken. As Steinbeck writes in the first chapter of East of... Show

While the book progressed, the focus switched from the Hamiltons to the Trasks. As the title of
the book suggests, East of Eden was an allegory to a book of Genesis, namely the story of Cain and
Abel. The siblings rivalry for a love of their father transcends through generations. Adam vs.
Charles, Aron vs. Cal. Many of critics attacked Steinbeck for having showed all the symbols too
obviously and therefore the novel is not convincing. As Warren French points out, The
theological disputation is interesting as an exposition of Steinbeck s ideas, but these lack
consistency and might be more appropriately discussed in an essay than a novel (156). Owens
argues that East of Eden may be a much more subtle and complex construction than we are at
first prepared to believe, one deserving of more careful scrutiny than we have yet brought to
bear (74). The most memorable character is Aron and Cal s mother, the amoral Cathy/Kate. She
represents everything evil. Kate is manipulative and is not afraid to kill anyone who stands in
her way. It has been said that Steinbeck s second wife Gwyn was in a way an inspiration for Kate s
character. Kate was a contrast to Samuel s character. Steinbeck s grandfather is here portrayed as a
wise and kind family man, a dreamer, always willing to help. Samuel Hamilton becomes a force
for good, a kind of savior, water witch, grail knight, and non teleological visionary all rolled into
one (Owens 66).

Bokanovsky s Process By Aldous Huxley
One of the most interesting fictional thought created in the novel, is the process of cloning
people. In the perspective of Aldous Huxley, he believes that the world would be better off
without the process of growth. Therefore, he created a technique (Bokanovsky s Process) that
would fasten the advancement of growth and bring sophisticated people into its society. As a
reader, I noticed how Huxley symbolized social stability as the Bokanovsky s Process. The author
utilizes symbolism when the Bokanovsky s Process is described as an abstraction that insure
everyone s (in the caste) equality. The purpose of this procedure was to enforce the government, in
order to control the population and the functions of the people in their society. I believe this quote,
was brought into this novel in order to reveal the ugly truth behind society. The government
believes that they can create a perfect world by controlling the citizens both mentally and physically.

The Ecstasy of Reason Essay
In the Bacchae, Euripides questions the authority of god versus man and man s allegiance to the
gods. Pentheus is caught in a unique struggle of maintaining authority in his own kingdom and
keeping allegiance to his favored god Apollo. The appearance of Dionysus in Thebes raises a
conflict for Pentheus in that he can not accept the authority of a god other than the one he has
chosen to revere within his kingdom. Pentheus resists Dionysussupreme authority as a show of
solidarity with Apollo and the laws of reason versus Dionysus and the disruption of civil order.

Pentheus as a leader. The prospect of expressed female sexuality infuriates Pentheus who refers to

As diverse characters of the planet, we entirely perceive our surroundings through our very own
paradigm, which is shaped based on identity. When seeing the world through a paradigm one is
effectively viewing and interpreting through a certain filter. For example, if a scientist is
observing an art piece, he may not be able to perceive it through the artist s paradigm and in
order to be a critic of the art, he must understand what the illustrator is trying to portray. Because
art can vary from a detailed painting in such dull colors to a bright coloured rectangle, and to look
at it through a scientific paradigm he will not understand the story behind the art piece. This
rectangle could represent someone s entire life, as would the detailed painting. And for one to
view it through an extremely different paradigm, they may not see past the pretty picture or plain
rectangle . Our religion and where we are raised is a major ingredient to formulating our identity. It
is also why one person may perceive, as kissing in public to being extremely wrong, where as one
may not even notice it. Within the Iranian and Middle Eastern culture, numerous perceive situations
through the rights and wrongs of the Holy Quran. Research also claims that many of the passages

Factors Affecting Vermont s Economy
Vermont used to be a state whose main source of economic value was in the land; Although
Vermont s economy does still largely depend on agriculture and farming, other industries such as
manufacturing and the service industry have taken the lead.
According to the 1960 Census report, Vermonters main fields of employment included
manufacturing, service jobs (yes, tourism), health care, grocery stores, educational institutions, and
government jobs. And analyzing more recent statistics only points in favor of this conclusion. Jobs
that were once considered to be popular in Vermont, such as agricultureand logging, now only
account for 3.4 percent of the labor force.
This, however, does not mean that Vermont is doomed to be uprooted from its identity, which
boasts its green image and the Made in Vermont labels. In fact, in many ways this comes as good
news: Vermont s economy no longer needs to be completely dependent upon the exploitation of
the state s relatively poor soil and few mineral sources. Another positive result that has come out of

Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight On The Beaches
Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech is arguably one of the most
memorable and inspirational speeches by a top leader in the Second World War. Churchill
delivered the speech to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on
June 4, 1940, approximately four weeks after he was made prime minister of Great Britain. The
speech itself was a report for the House of Commons on how the warfront proceeded, regarding
all aspects of the British armed forces. Prior to the speech, Britain had suffered a major military
loss in France and Belgium, after assisting Belgian people to defend their country from German
intrusion. Unfortunately, the British s attempt to protect Belgium was unsuccessful as King
Leopold of Belgium later surrendered to Nazi Germany, leaving thousands of French and British
soldiers stranded at the harbour of Dunkirk in northern France. Due to the British Expeditionary
Force (BEF) having to be rescued from France, Churchill believed that it would be a perfect time
to broadcast the inspirational speech to his people. Churchill s speech clearly highlighted the urgent
need of winning the war and recalled the disgraceful rescue of the BEF from France. In the speech,

deregulation, the trucking companies from both countries didn t compete with each other directly.
They were engaging in inter line agreements. In these agreements, a firm based in one nation would
handle freight till the border crossing and hand over to another firm based in the other country to

the borders. Thus, both U.S and Canadian trucking firms were directly competing with each other

Analysis Of Half A Day By Naguib Mahfouz
Time was a system created to help us organize our lives, but isn t it just a ticking clock telling us
how much we have left? In order to the get the most out of our lives, we use must use it wisely. In
Half a Day by Naguib Mahfouz, he shows the reader that you must live life because it will quickly
passyou by. He demonstrates this by having the character experience new things, time passing
quickly, and showing evolution. When the young boydoesn t want to go to school, he is forced to
experience something new. As he approaches the new school he is attending his father tells him
Today you truly begin life. (Mahfouz 85). The significance of this quote is that the young boy is
trying something new. If he wouldn t push himself to experience this new thing, he wouldn t be
taking advantage and using what all life has to offer. Go in by yourself. (Mahfouz 85) says his
father. Because his father is trying to push him to do new things, this shows that the author was
trying to convey that you have to venture out, even if on you own. You have to experience new
things to truly live life before the clock stops ticking and you run out of time. Dry your tears and
face life joyfully. (Mahfouz 86). When one of the woman at the new school make this comment, it
shows the young boy that he has to face life and enjoy it rather than shy away from the new things.
She direct states that you must live joyfully , so that shows me that the author wanted the boy to

Why is United States Voter Turn out so Low
Question 4) What are some explanations for why voter turnout is so low in the U.S. compared to
other wealthy, literate and democratic countries?
INTRODUCTION Voter turnoutis the rate by which people vote in elections. The simplest way to
calculate a given election s turnout rate is to compare the actual number of voters with the voting
age population. Voter turnout in the United States is among the worlds lowest. (E.S. 371) The
graph below taken from an article written for the Huffington Post in 2012, illustrates how poor
United States voter turnout has been as compared to other industrialized nations. Our voter turnout

The Decline of Social Capital in the United States This factor is often overlooked as a reason
impacting voter turnout but it is important nonetheless. The term social capital has been subject to
various definitions over time. Basically, what this term refers to is the variety of social ties
between individuals, and the differing connections that arise between individuals as a result of
participating in various activities and organizations. It should be noted that membership in civic
organizations has steadily declined since the late 1950s. This decline in social capital means that
people participate in group activities less, trust others less, and are generally more cynical, just to
name a few of the symptoms.
Many scholars believe that falling civic organization membership and the general decline in our
Social Capital has negatively impacted voter turnout. (Kaufmann. 145) To summarize, people in
the United States are less involved with other groups and other people as a whole, so it is only
logical to feel they would be less involved or interest in our political and governmental future.
The weakening of our political parties Unlike parties in many other countries, political parties in
the U.S. are relatively weak in terms of their ability to mobilize voters to register and ultimately
vote on election day. This inability to mobilize voters has direct correlation to the fact that
membership and affiliation in political

Nasa Curiosity Mission
The topic of Mars has long been of interest to astronomers and science fiction enthusiast alike. The
premise of another planet supporting life excites people like no other. In 2004, The United States
National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, began preliminary science experiments
and instrument proposals for the MarsScience Laboratory (MSL) and a robotic space probe mission
to Mars. After long testing and development stages, the mission birthed a rover, Curiosity, which
was launched in November 2011 and subsequently landed August 6th 2012. As we speak Curiosity
is collecting invaluable data for our understanding of mars including: habitability, climate and

The Curiosity rover is an amazing piece of machinery, and it must be to accomplish the objectives
that it plans to. NASA obviously had the greatest minds and engineers on this project as is evident
by its construction. The rover is powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator, akin to the
rovers of previous Mars missions. A Radioisotope power system is a generator that produces
electricity from the natural decay of plutonium 238, which is an isotope. Heat given off by the
natural decay of this isotope is converted into electricity by thermocouples, providing Curiosity
with constant power during all seasons and through the day and night. Extra heat given off called
waste heat can be used via pipes to warm systems, freeing electrical power for the operation of the
vehicle and instruments. This is crucial as the temperature on Mars can vary from 127 to 40
degrees C. Additionally there are two computers in board the rover called the Rover Compute
Element. The computers contain radiation hardened memory to deal with the extreme amounts of
radiation in space. The rover s computers are constantly self monitoring to keep the rover
operational, such as by regulating the rover s temperature. Communication is also a vital part of the
mission which is why Curiosity is equipped with telecommunication by several means. The first is
an X band transmitter and receiver that can communicate directly with Earth. Another is a UHF

The Problem Of World Hunger
Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because of rampant
starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on various media. World Hunger
is one of the main problems that a large portion of the global population faces today. Hunger varies
with severity but in this case it is the want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a
problem that has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns
because it is barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating
factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate
changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is povertyas poverty always has led to people going
without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in
third world nations and developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need
for food. Whether a country is rich or poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing
with poverty and hunger. Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are
young children. Hunger is a very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied.
As a matter of fact, people all over the world mainly concentrated in developing countries die
because of hunger and starvation on a daily basis. With the growth of population, the number of
hungry people also increases at a disproportionate rate.

What Is The Cautionary Tale Of The Three Brothers
As for many years, J.K. Rowling takes the world by storm with her Harry Potter series from the
year 1998 2017. As a reader, you have known if you have read the Harry Potter series, in the
second to last novel of the series Deathly Hallows Part 1 . It displays a brief and cautionary tale
known as The Tale of Three Brothers . As there are many fans that retell this famous short story
that can be found on YouTube, however, I had chosen this film adaptation The Tale of the Three
Brothers OFFICIAL ADAPTATION Newscom HD published by Felicity Giles and link it to the
Harry Potterseries. This tale had played a major role in the Harry Potter series including Deathly
Hallows Part 1 where this tale was first mentioned. Since it had a connection to the famous
artifacts known as the Deathly Hallows , which has a symbol of a triangle that has a circle and a
vertical line within the shape, which will be explained further. The tale was known as a brief
cautionary tale for children in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. However, this tale conveys
multiple deep messages discussing morals, death, mental issues, social issues, and emphasizes its
use of symbolism and personification.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

who cheated Death by building a bridge with magic. As a result, Death congratulated the three

The American Nightmare
The American Nightmare It was an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I
have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again (Fitzgerald
6). In The Great Gatsby, the narrator, Nick Carraway, was describing his neighbor s goal of
marrying a woman named Daisy. Gatsby, however, did not realize the futility of his dream which
ended up costing him his life. The Great Gatsbywas written by Fitzgerald in 1925 and takes place
in the summer of 1922. The belief that anyone could get rich through hard work was still alive at
the time and is evident in the novel as both Gatsby and Carraway are newly rich characters.
Fitzgerald himself grew up in a well off family, similar to Carraway. Later on, Fitzgerald joined
the Army during World War I, as did Gatsby and Carraway. Gatsby was a successful officer in the
Army when he met a woman named Daisy who would then be the only concern in his life.
Carraway was a somewhat successful bond salesman who lived next door to Gatsby and liked to
believe he was a fair and honest man. Daisy was a woman who, in simple terms, was a gold
digger. Daisy s only concern was to stay in the upper class, so she married a rich man instead of
Gatsby, which crushed his dream. If The Great Gatsby centered around Gatsby s failed dream, the
quick gain of money, and selfishness, then the novel may be a criticism of the American Dream.
The Great Gatsby takes place in the summer of 1922 around Long Island, New

Desertification typically occurs as a result of poor management by human populations. In earlier
times of history, desertification was not seen as a widespread issue, because most humans led
hunter gatherer lifestyles that caused them to frequently relocate. Thus, the land was not

over farming and deforestation. However, in more recent history, desertification has become much
more significant as agriculture based societies became more widespread and the need to produce

A Critical Concerns Surrounding The Tallit s Male...
When we walk into the sanctuary of any synagogue, the first sights we most likely see are the aron
hakodesh, the eternal lamp, and every man in the congregation wearing a tallit, the ritual prayer
shawl worn during weekday and Shabbat morning services. Now, we might also see women
wearing the tallit, too. In more recent years, women in synagogue have begun to wear the tallitas a
movement towards egalitarianism, taking religious practice into their own hands and projecting a
personal style to boot. In this paper, we will explore the critical concerns surrounding the tallit s
male dominated origins, the move by women to wear the tallit on practical and symbolic levels,
and the tallit as a method of personal expression.
The Origins of the Tallit
Based on the sea of tallitot we observe on men and women s shoulders in synagogue, we might think
that the tallit has Biblical roots. Understanding where the tallit, and the commandment to wear it,
come from, however, requires both closer analytical and physical examination. The actual
commandment is to wear tzitzit, or fringes, on the corners of our garments:
Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations
fringes in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of
blue. (Numbers 15:38)
This passage, which also appears in the blessings of the Shema, commands the wearing of tzitzit as
a reminder to fulfill the mitzvoth and commandments in

The Pursuit Of Happiness Movie Analysis
Fatoumata samake
Film:The Creative Medium
12/01/2017
Life is a struggle for the single father Chris Gardner known as Will Smith. He and his young son
known as Jaden Christopher Syre Smith got evicted from their apartment with no place to go.
The Pursuit Of Happiness directed by Gabrielle Muccino. The Pursuit Of Happiness was released
in 2006 and it is 117 minutes long. The genre of the movie is Biography and drama. The important
theme in this movie is about the American Dream. It is a very common dream that we all share.
The dream is to being successful and happy. To fulfill that dream in America you need to have
courage and the abilities to achieve your dream.
The Pursuit Of Happiness is based on a true story about a man called Chris Gardner. Chris
Gardner is a great example for somebody that wants to Pursuit his American Dream. The Pursuit
Of Happiness is about how Chris Gardner is willing to make sure he achieves his happiness. For
living, Chris Gardner is a salesman who sells bone density scanners. Eventually he figured out
that nobody wanted to buy it because it is a luxury device in the medical business. Sometime in
the beginning of the movie, there is a scene where we see Chris Gardner approaching and trying to
talk to Mr.Twistle. We see a long shotof them both which shows us that they both are dressed in
suits, which means that they both might be office workers. The long shot then drifts and
became a mid shot. The director could have purposely done that to show that Mr.Twistle is in a
hurry and has no time to speak with Chris. Chris Gardner and Mr.Twistle got in the same cab.
While they are in the same taxi together, we see that Chris is talking to Mr.Twistle but the close
up of Mr.Twistle s face shows that he s not interested in what Chris is saying. This is because
Twistle is just playing with a Rubik s cube. We then see an over the shoulder shot which shows
that it could mean that Chris is desperately wanting to talk to Mr.Twistle. Mr.Twistle then says to
Chris I m sorry, this thing is impossible. The extreme close up of Chris s face shows that he is
determined to do whatever it takes to talk to Mr.Twistle . Again, in the taxi part of the scene we
are only really shown mid shots and close

To be sincere I never thought about it. What is the appendix?
The appendix is a pouch the size of a finger part of the large intestine and placed in the lower right
abdomen. It is not yet fully understood its operation, although some theories suggest that it plays a
secondary role in the immune system, is the widespread view that it is totally unnecessary. The
removal of the appendix does not seem to have any effect on a person s health. What causes
appendicitis? Obstruction of the lumen (the inside of the Appendix) can cause appendicitis. The
mucus produced recedes into the lumen causing the multiplication of bacteria normally found in the
appendix. The consequence is that the appendix swells and becomes infected.
Sources of obstruction can be: feces, parasites, abnormal growth of the lymphatic tissue (for
example due to the Crohn s disease), foreign bodies or stones (grapes, cherries, peppers) tumors. An
inflamed appendix probably burst if not removed. Bursting would spread the infection throughout
the abdomen, causing peritonitis.
To whom it may happen? All subjects can be appendicitis, but is most common in people between
10 and 30 years of age.
What are the symptoms of appendicitis? Most people with appendicitis classic symptoms that any
doctor can easily identify. The main symptom is abdominal pain, usually sudden, often inducing a
person to wake up at night: you hear

Human Impact On No2 And Company Comparison
Human Activity Impact on NO2 and CO Comparison
Lynn Dietrich
Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars
Abstract
Human activity can change the world incredibly fast. We have to monitor those changes the best we
can in order to understand any damage that is being done. We use satellites and specialized
instruments to monitor the changes in our atmosphere. The levels of pollution that humans are
responsible for has to be monitored so that any danger can be avoided. We have to study the
components of the atmosphere to understand what is harmful and what is not.
Human Activity Impact on NO2 and CO Comparison OMI, or Ozone Monitoring Instrument, is an

It is formed when hydrocarbon fuels are burned (Thompson). CO is mainly produced by industrial
processes, some fires, and internal combustion engines (Blakemore and Jennett, 2016). Like NO2,
the highest levels of carbon monoxide will be found in places with large cities and industries.
Carbon monoxide has local and global effects. High amounts are dangerous to people s health
locally. CO can be spread by winds throughout the troposphere, having a global effect (Ichoku).
Carbon monoxide is being studied to see its role in atmospheric chemistry and the ability of the
atmosphere to cleanse itself of harmful pollutants (Ichoku). Humans are the source of a huge
amount of pollution. Human activity has caused nitrogen dioxide levels to rise. This rise has
increased pollution levels and has hurt the atmosphere. Human activity has also caused carbon
monoxide levels to rise, but unlike NO2, carbon monoxide can easily be spread around the world by
wind. The spread of carbon monoxide has added to pollution and hurt the atmosphere. Human
activity can have a very drastic effect on our world in a relatively short amount of time. With the
help of satellites and monitoring instruments, we can see those effects and try to act on the data
before any major damage is done. As humans continue to pollute the environment, scientists
continue to monitor the constant changes in the atmosphere and other components to try and

Changing Voting System In Canada
At this time, the Majority Liberal Government is looking into changing the voting system in
Canada, moving away from a system that has led to their victory many times in Canadian history.
Canada utilizes the plurality election system, colloquially known as First Past the Post (FPtP)
which is named after a term used in English racing. The term FptP is quite literal in its name as

  • 2. My Experience In My Family The environment in which I was raised was very thrilling. My family and close friends have had such an impact on my life and I ll always be so grateful for them. They are very encouraging and always keep an open mind. I ve learned so much within my seventeen years of life. As I ve been growing up they ve helped me realize that It s okay if it s not right just keep moving and don t take the melancholy parts of life too hard, always learn to be and have a sanguine attitude. They re always proud of me no matter what I do or who I am. Growing up it was a must to have a celebration no matter where or what it was. Every weekend my dad would go outside and blast music up until two or three in the morning. He always told me that life is kind of like a party so I need to learn to enjoy it. These celebrations meant so much to me because we d always end up having hearty profound conversations. We d always talk about how either he s so proud of me or he share stories of his childhood and tell me i m doing what he can t. I think that s why it means so much to me because the fact that I m making my parents proud and doing what they can t means the world to the both of us and I feel honored that, that s what I m doing. Just last night I told my parents that I was thinking about enlisting into the Air Force. In my head I thought that they d be taken aback and startled by me even thinking about it but, their reaction was completely different than what I expected. Both, my mom and dad, ... • 3. What Is The Theme In Sestina Hidden between the thirty nine lines of Sestina, lay some major themes in literature. Even when the September rain falls and in the failing light , the house is still a secure and warm place. But where is this sense of comfort in Sestina? It appears that even though both the grandmother and the child are in the chilly house, they are far apart from each other. She busies herself and tries to hide her emotions while it draws in the other end of the kitchen. The grandmother s actions create a sense of secrecy and hint that she hides something. Despite the brief moments of contact when showing the picture the child drew, the two characters are mentally immersed in their own worlds. Another Bishop s poem that deals with the themeof home... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She successfully creates a mournful tone by putting tears as one of the six final words. The mood is led by feelings of sadness and sorrow. However, the reader does not know why. Bishop keeps this sense of secrecy by revealing the grief but not the reason behind it. She uses visual imagery to establish a simple, falsely harmonic domestic scene. The tension in the house is hidden behind the silence in it. Bishop personifies the objects in the house to break it. Furthermore, the words of the objects might clarify what is the reason for the grandmother s mood: It was to be. Says the Marvel Stove. I know what I know, says the almanac. Apparently, something predetermined has happened which relates to the theme of change, discussed in the previous section. This theme is closely related to the role of the almanac. Its function is to predict the weather for the next year. Additionally, its importance in the poem shows the role of the weather in the grandmother s life. The hanging almanac is associated with a bird using the simile birdlike . The anaphora hovers suggests that it has control over the child and the grandmother. Again, with the use of vivid language, Bishops includes the almanac in the scene: the little moons fall down like tears/ from between the pages of the almanac . The moons which resemble tears add up to the sense of sadness in the poem. Additionally, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Story Of The Aphorism Until lions tell their stories, tales of hunting will glorify the hunter. African Proverb The Aphorism Until lions tell their stories, tales of hunting will glorify the hunter. , stood out to me among the other aphorisms because it really reflects how we perceive stories, as well as the people who tell them. In the same manner, it demonstrates how hearing both sides of a story is crucial to making an accurate judgement while remaining unbiased. Studying this aphorism in a literal sense, we would see precisely the bias in the perceptions we all have. When hunters disclose the stories of their kills, they never mention anything that would make them seem any less god like among their peers. They make a point to seem as virtuous, and honorable ... • 5. A Humean Critique of Descartes Essay A Humean Critique of Descartes Montreal has big potholes. Lots of them. If one is to truly understand the philosophy of Hume and Descartes, one must understand what they would do with crummy roads as civil engineers in Montreal. Hume would probably repave the roads based on the success of past designs and the results of empirical data. Descartes, on the other hand, would probably leave nothing unscathed after attacking the problem with reason, scrapping the existing roadmap and re building roads with new foundations and new directions. This allegory underlines a central question of a Hume Descartes comparison: if Hume s road to knowledge needs improvement, does Descartes know where to start or where he is going? The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Descartes used relations of ideas as the foundation for his method for acquiring knowledge. Descartes writes that disciplines which rely on composite things are doubtful, and arithmetic and geometry contain something certain and indubitable (Descartes 61). For example, 2+3=5 is a relation of ideas because 2+3 #8800;5 is a contradiction. The Discourse on Method constitutes a series of demonstrative reasonings. For Descartes, knowledge is clarity and distinctness, and demonstrative, mathematical reasoning pave the way toward this knowledge. Descartes thought that logical deduction from first principles could uncover a whole series of truths about the world. Hume rejects the use of relations of ideas to acquire knowledge and instead turns to accumulation of data. Hume writes that demonstrative reasoning fails to uncover the relation which governs our understanding of matter of fact: cause and effect. A priori reasoning which ignores experience cannot draw any inference concerning real existence and matter of fact (Hume17). This is the central proposition of the Inquiry: causes and effects are discoverable, not by reason, but by experience (17). For Hume, empiricism paves the way to knowledge and custom, the codified accumulation of knowledge, serves as the great guide of human life (28). Knowledge is simply a belief reinforced by experience a far cry from the Cartesian certainty and clarity. The collection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

High school writing classes across the country are fighting the perceived menace of the word said. They print lists of alternate verbs, hang posters that say Said is Dead, and push students to page through thesauruses, creating an unbearable tide of big word writers afraid to use a four letter word. In this rising tide Salinger s writing is all the more refreshing, for he is the patron saint of Said. People don t sputter in Salinger s short stories. They don t pled or moan or ramble. She broke off again (25). Franny s response is a series of fragments and broken off sentences that span two pages. Two concepts are communicated simultaneously. First, the content of Franny s speech. Second, the back last or second guessing that goes on within Franny s head. The first is the more well known and more controversial of the two. Franny has been critiqued for so called shallow concerns. John Updike famously referred to Franny as, a pretty college girl passing though a plausible moment of disgust in his New York Times review of Franny and Zooey . He calls Franny pretty to demean her intelligence. He calls her girl to demean her perspective. His use of plausible indicates that he finds her character understandable. John Updike may be a wonderful author and an eloquent reviewer, but he will never understand Franny. I understood her when I read Franny for the first time. • 11. Exchange Rate Volatility Measure And Relative Price 3.2 Exchange Rate Volatility measure and relative price An important issue in this topic is how to choose the appropriate technique to estimate the exchange rate volatility. However, wide variety of measures have been discussing in the literature, but there is no right or wrong measure of exchange rate volatility. Mckenzie (1999) provides a brief over view of different methods to measure exchange ratevolatility, such average absolute difference between the previous forward and current spot rate, variance of the spot exchange rate around its trend, absolute percentage change of the exchange rate and the moving average of the standard deviationof the exchange rate. A moving standard deviation of nominal or real exchange rate seems to be the most commonly used method in the empirical literature. Hence, we will construct the moving average standard deviation of the monthly real exchange rate volatility with the same spirit as Serenis and Tsounis (2014) and a moving standard deviation of real exchange rate can be expressed as: Where R_t is logarithm of nominal or real exchange rate and m is the number of periods which can be range from 4 to 12.In this paper, we will use the moving average of the standard deviation of exchange rate as the measure of exchange rate volatility by using the real exchange rate and the order m is set to be 12. Koray and Lastrepes (1989) have shown that the moving average of the standard deviation of the exchange rate captures the variation in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Affluenza, The Truman Show In everyday life you are exposed to media. The media uses techniques such as: propaganda, product placement, and facts to alter how you view a certain thing. You may not realize how the media twist and turns such little details to change your perception. My personal view on many things were changed in time as little as a week. We watched Affluenza, The Truman Show, and many documentary s that showed how the mediacan change how you think. One technique that many Medias use is advertisement. They use advertisement to get you to buy whatever they are trying to sell. Most advertisements use statistics that are realistic, scare tactics, product placement, and some even show bias toward another. In the Truman Show, Truman s wife was advertising coco and a knife. She kept repeating that, that was what Truman drank and used to cook with. She made sure the label was facing forward when she was talking about it, this is an example of product placement. This technique of using advertisement was to pull the viewers watching the show to go out and buy the items. They may also squeeze in sponsors that you may not even realize. For example in the movie elf Coca Cola was hidden throughout the movie, but was never talked about generally. It catches many eyes and promotes the product itself without having to even mention it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 13. What Is The Atomic Bomb Inhumane One major argument for the use of the atomic bomb was that it would save thousands, if not, millions of U.S. and Japanese lives. With a U.S. invasion set for November of 1945, it was predicted that nearly a million U.S. soldiers would be lost, and the entire population of Japan s main inland would suffer causalities. We believed that thousands of civilian lives were worth our own. The sacrifice of these individuals was worth it all. Where does morality come into play? How does one decide what lives matter and which ones do not? I believe that the atomic bomb was inhumane, more so for the long term environmental, social, and health effects which took place. The destructive effects of the bomb had three phases: a fireball that hit temperatures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Influence of the Western War on Current US Action How western war influence current US action Afghanistan Iraq Introduction Cambridge Illustrated History of Warfare: The Triumph of the West published in 1995, edited by Geoffrey Parker has explained a number of factors that have played a part in the dominance of the western way of war. The western way included in here is more about the dominance of the western culture or the European culture in wars as compared to the other factors that may include technology or finance. Five main foundations according to Parker can define the western way of war. These factors include being superior in military and war based technology, superior military training and discipline, increased reliance on military theory, an increased competition between European states that lead to increased military innovation and lastly, military innovation by adoption of new and better technology (Parker, 2005, p. 67). The five foundations of western war have helped US in gaining victory over countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. The main aim of the paper will be to highlight how these five main factors play important roles in the dominance of a country over another during a war. How the countries like Iraq and Afghanistan are failing against the more powerful US army based on Parker s five foundations of a western war will be considered in the paper. At this point the audience knows that he is trying to lie his way into tricking poor Claudio that Hero has been sleeping with men. This makes some audience members angry and for some others it makes them happy because the climax of the play is about to begin. I came here to tell you I ll make this short, since she s already been talked about for too long the lady is unfaithful. Shakespeare deliberately shortens Don John s speeches to not give away a lot of information about his evil plan so that he leaves the audience questioning. A Place Beyond Time does just that. Containing a vastly abstract title, A Place Beyond Timemay at first glance appear to properly relate time as a tangent notion with space. Upon further contemplation, however, it becomes patent that A Place Beyond Time possesses a conspicuous absence present in its philosophy of aloofness from intangibility. And although the name of the course attempts to tackle and manifest the complications of abstract and concrete time, it is through its lack of definition and precision, lack of possession, and lack of sensation of repetition that A Place Beyond Time fails to properly capitalize on this dilemma. In scrutiny, A in A Place Beyond Time appears to breed the idea of time in any place any where, albeit inaccurate. Which place? True, however, that the use of A allows for intrigue and mystery. In any other circumstance, other than specificity, the use of A is better. That will be the first subject of our questions today. I will give insight to whether NPM can coincide in a regulatory environment where legal and political approaches are often controlling. In order to answer this question, we must first look at what actually foster s the regulatory environment. As the title of the book suggests, East of Eden was an allegory to a book of Genesis, namely the story of Cain and Abel. The siblings rivalry for a love of their father transcends through generations. Adam vs. Charles, Aron vs. Cal. Many of critics attacked Steinbeck for having showed all the symbols too obviously and therefore the novel is not convincing. As Warren French points out, The theological disputation is interesting as an exposition of Steinbeck s ideas, but these lack consistency and might be more appropriately discussed in an essay than a novel (156). Owens argues that East of Eden may be a much more subtle and complex construction than we are at first prepared to believe, one deserving of more careful scrutiny than we have yet brought to bear (74). The most memorable character is Aron and Cal s mother, the amoral Cathy/Kate. She represents everything evil. Kate is manipulative and is not afraid to kill anyone who stands in her way. It has been said that Steinbeck s second wife Gwyn was in a way an inspiration for Kate s character. Kate was a contrast to Samuel s character. Steinbeck s grandfather is here portrayed as a wise and kind family man, a dreamer, always willing to help. Samuel Hamilton becomes a force for good, a kind of savior, water witch, grail knight, and non teleological visionary all rolled into one (Owens 66). Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight On The Beaches Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech is arguably one of the most memorable and inspirational speeches by a top leader in the Second World War. Churchill delivered the speech to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on June 4, 1940, approximately four weeks after he was made prime minister of Great Britain. The speech itself was a report for the House of Commons on how the warfront proceeded, regarding all aspects of the British armed forces. Prior to the speech, Britain had suffered a major military loss in France and Belgium, after assisting Belgian people to defend their country from German intrusion. Unfortunately, the British s attempt to protect Belgium was unsuccessful as King Leopold of Belgium later surrendered to Nazi Germany, leaving thousands of French and British soldiers stranded at the harbour of Dunkirk in northern France. Due to the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) having to be rescued from France, Churchill believed that it would be a perfect time to broadcast the inspirational speech to his people. Churchill s speech clearly highlighted the urgent need of winning the war and recalled the disgraceful rescue of the BEF from France. In the speech, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The battle of Dunkirk was considered to be a significant loss as Churchill presumed perhaps 20,000 or 30,000 men might be re embarked. The main purpose of this study was to understand the nature of cross border market and to study the impacts of deregulation and Free trade agreements on the market. Before deregulation, the trucking companies from both countries didn t compete with each other directly. They were engaging in inter line agreements. In these agreements, a firm based in one nation would handle freight till the border crossing and hand over to another firm based in the other country to handle freight from there onwards. After deregulation, these firms could establish operations across the borders. Thus, both U.S and Canadian trucking firms were directly competing with each other for market share in both territories. In order to the get the most out of our lives, we use must use it wisely. In Half a Day by Naguib Mahfouz, he shows the reader that you must live life because it will quickly passyou by. He demonstrates this by having the character experience new things, time passing quickly, and showing evolution. When the young boydoesn t want to go to school, he is forced to experience something new. As he approaches the new school he is attending his father tells him Today you truly begin life. (Mahfouz 85). The significance of this quote is that the young boy is trying something new. If he wouldn t push himself to experience this new thing, he wouldn t be taking advantage and using what all life has to offer. Go in by yourself. (Mahfouz 85) says his father. Because his father is trying to push him to do new things, this shows that the author was trying to convey that you have to venture out, even if on you own. You have to experience new things to truly live life before the clock stops ticking and you run out of time. Dry your tears and face life joyfully. (Mahfouz 86). When one of the woman at the new school make this comment, it shows the young boy that he has to face life and enjoy it rather than shy away from the new things. INTRODUCTION Voter turnoutis the rate by which people vote in elections. The Decline of Social Capital in the United States This factor is often overlooked as a reason impacting voter turnout but it is important nonetheless. The term social capital has been subject to various definitions over time. Basically, what this term refers to is the variety of social ties between individuals, and the differing connections that arise between individuals as a result of participating in various activities and organizations. It should be noted that membership in civic organizations has steadily declined since the late 1950s. This decline in social capital means that people participate in group activities less, trust others less, and are generally more cynical, just to name a few of the symptoms. Many scholars believe that falling civic organization membership and the general decline in our Social Capital has negatively impacted voter turnout. (Kaufmann. 145) To summarize, people in the United States are less involved with other groups and other people as a whole, so it is only logical to feel they would be less involved or interest in our political and governmental future. The weakening of our political parties Unlike parties in many other countries, political parties in the U.S. are relatively weak in terms of their ability to mobilize voters to register and ultimately vote on election day. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Curiosity rover is an amazing piece of machinery, and it must be to accomplish the objectives that it plans to. NASA obviously had the greatest minds and engineers on this project as is evident by its construction. The rover is powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator, akin to the rovers of previous Mars missions. A Radioisotope power system is a generator that produces electricity from the natural decay of plutonium 238, which is an isotope. Heat given off by the natural decay of this isotope is converted into electricity by thermocouples, providing Curiosity with constant power during all seasons and through the day and night. Extra heat given off called waste heat can be used via pipes to warm systems, freeing electrical power for the operation of the vehicle and instruments. This is crucial as the temperature on Mars can vary from 127 to 40 degrees C. Additionally there are two computers in board the rover called the Rover Compute Element. The computers contain radiation hardened memory to deal with the extreme amounts of radiation in space. The rover s computers are constantly self monitoring to keep the rover operational, such as by regulating the rover s temperature. Communication is also a vital part of the mission which is why Curiosity is equipped with telecommunication by several means. The first is an X band transmitter and receiver that can communicate directly with Earth. Another is a UHF Electra Lite software defined radio ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

World hunger is a problem that has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is povertyas poverty always has led to people going without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in third world nations and developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. Whether a country is rich or poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing with poverty and hunger. Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are young children. Hunger is a very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied. In The Great Gatsby, the narrator, Nick Carraway, was describing his neighbor s goal of marrying a woman named Daisy. Gatsby, however, did not realize the futility of his dream which ended up costing him his life. The Great Gatsbywas written by Fitzgerald in 1925 and takes place in the summer of 1922. The belief that anyone could get rich through hard work was still alive at the time and is evident in the novel as both Gatsby and Carraway are newly rich characters. Fitzgerald himself grew up in a well off family, similar to Carraway. Later on, Fitzgerald joined the Army during World War I, as did Gatsby and Carraway. Gatsby was a successful officer in the Army when he met a woman named Daisy who would then be the only concern in his life. When we walk into the sanctuary of any synagogue, the first sights we most likely see are the aron hakodesh, the eternal lamp, and every man in the congregation wearing a tallit, the ritual prayer shawl worn during weekday and Shabbat morning services. Now, we might also see women wearing the tallit, too. In more recent years, women in synagogue have begun to wear the tallitas a movement towards egalitarianism, taking religious practice into their own hands and projecting a personal style to boot. In this paper, we will explore the critical concerns surrounding the tallit s male dominated origins, the move by women to wear the tallit on practical and symbolic levels, and the tallit as a method of personal expression. The Origins of the Tallit Based on the sea of tallitot we observe on men and women s shoulders in synagogue, we might think that the tallit has Biblical roots. Understanding where the tallit, and the commandment to wear it, come from, however, requires both closer analytical and physical examination. The actual commandment is to wear tzitzit, or fringes, on the corners of our garments: Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations fringes in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of blue. The removal of the appendix does not seem to have any effect on a person s health. What causes appendicitis? Obstruction of the lumen (the inside of the Appendix) can cause appendicitis. The mucus produced recedes into the lumen causing the multiplication of bacteria normally found in the appendix. The consequence is that the appendix swells and becomes infected.
