Texas Tick Fever Research Paper
What became known as Texas tick fever probably arrived in North America sometime in the
seventeenth century carried by cattle brought by Spanish colonists from the West Indies. It was
transmitted by the cattle tick which required 200 or more frost free days per year for survival.
Therefore, its spatial extent was the southern states. Initially, southerners were not terribly
concerned about the disease since cattle was rarely a primary economic investment in the southern
United States. Antebellum Texas was an exception since it dominated the national cattle industry.
By the 1850s farmers in states such as Missouri were turning back cattle drives from Texas for fear
of infecting their herds. In some instances there were violent confrontations, assaulting and even
killing some of the cowboys. Eventually northern states intervened to protect their herds, instituting
quarantine laws against southern cattle. In 1892 the federal government delineated a quarantine
line that followed the northern border of permanent fever infestation. The accompanying
regulations stated that cattle could only be moved to northern markets between... Show more content

The use of arsenic dips were adopted nationally in the 1910s. Arsenic was cheap and easy to use.
It did not cling to the cattle and did not adversely affect their health or appearance. Dipping
provided an effective way to eradicate the tick, but required the construction of expensive dipping
vats. The construction of vats, enforcement of quarantines, inspection of heards, and treatment of
all stock in a particular area all required a high level of cooperation between government agencies
and farmers. This cooperation did not always exist. Small scale and middling farmers resented the
requirement to expend money and effort to treat their cattle when they percieved no advantage and
some very obvious disadvantages (Strom

Jim Crow Law Impact
You know if we were to look back and how we were in 1955 living in Jim Crow, living in
segregation, living in segregated schools, it s hard to believe that it was America, but it really
was. (Anna Deavere Smith). But today, however, we almost vanquished all of Jim Crow law today.
But before it was all just Racismaround the blacks, voting prevention for the blacks, and justice for
all black citizens. Racism is a true hatred to one raceor gender to another person. Or in many people
s definition, Mr.Radley shot at a Negro in his collard patch. (Harper Lee 54). Because of racism,
people may even attack other people just because of their race and or gender. Isis members want

In 1696, black people were able to vote without any problems at all. Our lives begin to end the
day we become silent about things that matter. (Martin Luther King Junior). This impacted
many lives when it came to this one law. If you did not receive any felony and or went to prison,
you had the right to not vote at all! The worst part was that if you were a black person trying to
vote right there, then you would be receiving a felony for even voting. Yet this happens almost
all day in the same way! Sure black people have the rights to vote, but they go to prison more
likely because of how the racism impact their lives today. Jim Crow has affected many lives and
even right now! But what reason is because of unfair trials and being guilty from thin air. During
Atticus case, he had to face a negro named Tom Robinson who was Framed for Rape and abuse.
Atticus had it in the bag, yet the judge tossed him in prison. There s something in our world that
makes men lose their heads they couldn t be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it s a white
man s word against a black man s, the white man always wins. They re ugly, but those are the facts
of life. (Harper lee 220). Somehow this still keeps on going for black people

Indigenous Australian Aboriginals and the Colony of Britain.
Indigenous Australians are believed to have arrived onto Australian mainlands across the sea of

century other Dutch navigators explored the western and southern coasts of Australia, numerous
European explorers followed, however, in 1770 Lieutenant James Cook explored the East Coast of
Australia representing Britain returning with accounts favouring colonisation at Botany Bay, New
South Wales. Seventeen years after Cook s touchdown on the east coast of Australia, the British
government decided to establish a colony at Botany Bay.

Things You Need To Know Before Buying A New Computer
Buying a new computer is a difficult task, filled with jargon and lots of competitors trying to get
you to part with your hard earned money. It can be extremely tricky to know what kind of
computer to get, and which computer will best serve your needs, especially with new tablets and
netbooks hitting the market every day.
The most important question you will need to ask yourself is: what do I need or want a computer
for? What tasks do I want to be able to accomplish? It can be very easy to get seduced by offers
of higher performance and state of the art graphics, but if you never use the computer to its full
potential, then that is simply money wasted. Conversely, if you wanted to use a computer for

Designed to be a static unit, desktops are usually much heavier and larger than laptops or
netbooks. However, this allows for them to be comparatively faster and more powerful than a
similarly priced laptop. If you need or want power on a budget and do not need to work on the
move regularly, a desktop is a great choice. The extra power possible also makes desktops a good
choice for gamers and media creators, too. The design of most desktops also makes it possible to
upgrade units with more memory, higher powered graphics and sound, and more processing
power, if you know what you are doing. This also means that many hardware malfunctions if you
are unlucky enough to experience any can be fixed simply for the price of the part and labour.
The largest disadvantage of desktops is the lack of portability. Many people need the ability to
take their work with them, and this can be a severe limitation. Unlike a laptop, you may have to
buy a monitor for a desktop separately, and they can be more difficult to set up. In smaller homes
or if you need to travel frequently, dedicating a space to a large computer might also be an issue,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ontv Channel
4 Advantages:
Of the most significant advantages of ONTV channel is that it put an end to the era where the
government monopolies media, especially with the availability of alternative channels, since the
last nineties, shrinking economic role for governments in most Arab countries, in the light of
market trends in the economy of the future, moreover, The remarkable flow of media across the
channel in the growing strength of the impact of public opinion. Also, there was a magnificent
change in the professional performance of the Arab media level because of the competitions
between channels.
5 Disadvantages:
In contrast, ONTV has also some disadvantages, as the channel focuses on local events, which,
despite its importance, its not that association with the Arab media side, therefore, it is out of the
competition in this area.

Violent Crime-Related Deaths In America
Two point six million Americans die each year, and it is of the utmost importance to understand
how and why. Cancer, heart disease, stroke, suicide, accidents, abortion, and homicide are all
common ways people in america die. With that many deaths, it is understandable to see why it is
such a prevalent topic for discussion. From the 662,435 abortions to the mere 15,046 homicides,
death is always a part of a major political debate. Violence related deaths are not properly
represented in the media, they cost less overall but more individually, there are far fewer than that
of other causes, and violent crimerelated deaths can be decreased significantly. They are, simply put,
irrelevant in comparison to the other ways Americans die.
Violent crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Presently there is no cure for cancer, but there are many measures that can be taken to prevent a
violent crime. Cities all across the country have experimented with ways to reduce the amount
of violence in their areas. A key term to know, in order to better understand this topic, is a hot
break in. A hot break in is when a burglar enters a home, while the occupants are still in the
building. Of the break ins in America, only 13% were hot , while Canada had a 48%, and
Britain with a 59%. Many assume this to be due in some part to the gun ownership of America.
Criminals in America are worried more about getting themselves killed breaking into a house,
than in those other countries. An example of violence prevention, is the case of Kennesaw,
Georgia. In 1982 the city was facing a serious home invasion and homicide epidemic. Their
crime rate was 25% higher than that of the state average at the time. The mayor passed an
ordinance requiring every home to have a gun. Within 2 months of the ordinance being passed,
burglaries had dropped 89%, and homicides had been significantly reduced. The mayor then
released a statement stating that, Gun ownership for home protection is considerably more
beneficial to the entire community than all other anti burglary measures. Another prime example
of a plan that effectively reduces violent crime, is Orlando, Florida. In the late 1960 s, there was
a serious rape epidemic. The city created a program training women in self defense tactics and
firearm use. While rape increased in the country and Florida, the amount of rapes dropped 88%,
and as a favorable side effect, burglaries dropped 22%, and there was a quantifiable decrease in
homicides. An unfortunate example of the increasing legislation to limit the rights of those who
seek to defend themselves is that of Amanda Collins. In October 2007 she had concealed carry
permit, but the

Sammy, you don t want to do this to your Mom and Dad, he tells me. It s true, I don t. But it
seems to me that once you begin a gesture it s fatal not to go through with it (323). This statement
made by Sammy after quitting his job, was made towards the end of John Updike s story A amp;P .
Sammy had quit his job, a job that his parents helped him to get. Sammy opened up a whole new
world; a world that I don t think Sammy was ready for. He made a quick and irrational decision,
rather if it affected his life or not we would never know. One could make the assumption that yes

Take Sammy for example, just because he quit his job that his parents helped him to get, this
didn t mean that he would have never be successful in life. Sammy lived in a small town in New
England; there were not a lot of large businesses there, just a small quaint town. If I had of been
in the same predicament, and had quit my job. I would have moved to a bigger town that
offered a broader working experience, a broader lifestyle. That opportunity would have given me
a way to make a better life for myself. With Sammy being so socially incompetent that would
have given him a better opportunity to interact and become more sociable with other people.
Sammy s experience gave me a personal insight to an experience I once had while being
employed at Kroger. The location of the Kroger I was working at was just about to have a grand
opening. We had all gathered to the front of the store to have a store meeting to prepare for the
opening. Our manager at the time was speaking to us and just telling us about how he was
expecting everyone to be on his or her tasks. He wanted to make sure that no one had any
questions or concerns of their jobs. A couple of questions were asked to the manager and he
answered them one by one accordingly. All of a sudden he begins to express his feelings of how
we would like for us to act, saying things like, Act like you all have some type of manners . I am

Trauma In The Sorrow Of War
Specifically in American soldiers, Almost 31 percent of Vietnam veterans [...] have been affected
by PTSD ( PTSD ). This means many soldiers have gone through a traumatic experience during
their time of war. Merriam Webster defines trauma as A disordered psychic or behavioral state
resulting from severe mental or emotional stress or physical injury ( Trauma ). Kathleen M. O
Connor, a professor at Columbia Theological Seminary, states, Trauma Theory refers to a loose,
interdisciplinary conversation that investigates the lingering consequences of violence upon
individuals and communities (O Connor). The Sorrow of War by Bao Ninh can be analyzed
through a Trauma lens by asking what the causes and effects are of trauma, and if there are any
signs of addiction to trauma. Kien, the main character of the novel, goes through many grim events
that ultimately lead him to develop certain defense mechanisms and a type of addiction.
Trauma Theory reveals that Kien s sorrow is derived from the Vietnamwar and events that
happened because of it. Maja Milatovic, a course coordinator at ANU college in Australia, states
that Trauma Theory has [...] connections to wider socio political frames such as survivor
narratives (Milatovic). The Sorrow of War can be read as a survivor narrative because Of the entire

Reversely, the listed issues can be used to improve the risk control. The risk of unconsciously
selling the wrong product to customers is strongly related to the risk of wrong or incomplete
information for customers. On the one hand, salesmen do not receive clear instructions or are
not properly informed about the products they sell. On the other hand, customers failed to
double check policies they take out. This is due to misleading of salesmen, regardless whether
unconsciously or not; individual sales material, which ought to be replaced by official display
material of RA; and the total trust into salesmen. This risk is hard to control since it would
indirectly suppose that RA s salesmen are not trustworthy. The impact of occurrence is rather low

This is done to prevent other individuals, who may be able to see the user s computer screen,
from viewing the password as plain text. In order to insure the correct amount of keystrokes by
the user, the star or dot remains on the screen. However, the text is not displayed for the world to
see. Hidden input controls are extremely useful when performing data entry tasks with a database
driven web application. Often, the forms used to edit data are in reference to an entry within the
database that has an integer primary key. This key is usually arbitrary integer that increments
automatically, provides indexing, and has absolutely no meaning to the user. When the user selects
to update the data, it is important that the systems knows what ID is being updated. However,
there is no reason to display this ID to the user. In order to submit the ID of the edited database
record along with the modified form fields, the ID can be assigned to a hidden input control. Data
integrity with input controls is achieved both by the nature of the controls themselves and basic
script validation techniques. As far as scripting is concerned, each data field can be easily verified
upon submit before sending the data to the server. For the types of input controls chosen, selecting
inappropriate input controls can result in data integrity issues. A text input control is rather straight

The Creation Of Israel By John F. Kennedy

Global Perspectives

The Creation of Israel Israel was not created in order to disappear Israel will endure and flourish.
It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor
demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom.
These are John F. Kennedy s thoughts and opinions upon the creation of Israel. In the time leading
up to the creation of Israel, the Jews had endured much suffering through the terrible acts of the
Holocaust. Jews have proven to rise from the despair and the suffering that they had to endure and
they ultimately created something stupendous: their own country. There have been many obstacles
in the way for the Jews to do this, the biggest being the Arab Palestinians. The Arab Palestinians
objected to the Arab Jews forming a nation and if it were not for the help of the United States,
Israel would have never been able to overrule the power of the Arab Palestinians and take over the
land for themselves. With tremendous support from the United States, the creation of Israel
exemplifies the joyous and magnificent accomplishment that not only Arab Jews accomplished, but
all Jews. In the time leading up to the creation of Israel, the Jews were motivated to establish their
own country in the territory of Palestine with the support of other countries around the world. There
were many contributions that lead to the creation of

Florida Vs Arizona Essay
Two seemingly similar places Arizona and Florida are two seemly similar places, but when you
compare the two they have very different pros and cons. Florida is a humid place, and Arizona
is a dry heat. Florida is normally sunny as well as Arizona but it gets much more rain then
Arizona because it s basically an island state. If you re looking for a bigger difference in seasons
Arizona is great because the winters are colder, and there is snow in the northern area of
Arizona, while you won t ever get any in Florida. If you re looking for a relatively warm place
all year round Florida is great. Being that Arizona is a desert state the humidity and rainfall is
much lower. The average high in Arizona summers is a strikingly high 104 degrees while
Florida s average high is 92 degrees. The winter s high median in Arizona is 48 degrees while
Florida stands at 50 degrees. Usually in Arizona the wettest month is March with around 1 and
Florida s wettest month is usually June with around 7 . Arizona is the smaller state of the two

Authoritarianism
Left and Right: Two Sides of the Same Coin Throughout history, different forms of government
have been used to control and lead the masses. One of the most powerful of these forms is
Authoritarianism which often aims to consolidate rule for one individual. This is shown through
the leaders Francisco Franco and Mao Zedong, who represent both sides of the political compass,
and they both gained authority using extremely similar methods. By using these two leaders it is
possible to see how whether left or right wing, Authoritarian leaders rise and control power in
similar ways. Authoritarianism is not bound to a single ideology or group, thus is can be used by
both left and right wing politicians. An example of the later is Francisco Franco... Show more

Mao founded the Chinese Communist Party and would later establish the People s Republic of

crucial later in his life. A pivotal point before the Chinese Civil War was the setting up of a
revolutionary base in 1931 by Mao. This base was forced out of Kiangsi in 1934 and Mao s
followers left with him, thus beginning the Long March which ended in 1935. After the Long

Difference Between Baby Cribs And Bassinet
What s The Difference Between Baby Crib and Bassinet?
Deciding what you should purchase for the nursery of yours can take on overwhelming
proportions. Do you actually require a changing table? What is the importance of a rocking chair?
Does the purchase of a swing merit the space that it occupies?
However, among the most vital decisions that you ll require to make regarding nursery furnishings
is picking the place where your baby is going to sleep.
Infants spend a great part of their time sleeping, and thus your little one is going to use up much
time in the sleeping space of theirs! Moreover, looking after the safety of your baby even as they
are fast asleep is a key consideration with any newborn.

In order to establish the correlation between Starbucks organizational culture and its management s
competency, it is imperative to fully comprehend what is meant by a key management competency
and precisely what it may entail. Through studying management and its characteristics as defined
by those considered experts in the subject matter, I have found that there are typically four primary
management competencies that are usually identified as core competencies. Those management
skills are conceptual, interpersonal, technical and political (Robbins, DeCenzo, Coulter, 2015, p.
11). At a high level, these management competencies require one to have the skillset to evaluate
and make a clear diagnosis of a situation, have the ability to professionally work well with others,
have a great depth of knowledge and expertise in reference to their specific job area and also have
the skillset to establish and foster relationships essential for professional growth, internally and
externally.

The Identity of Black Women in the Post Bellum Period 1865 1885
Throughout history, the black woman has always had a multitude of responsibilities thrust upon her
shoulders. This was never truer than for southern black women in the period between 1865 and

One of the first things that the black woman attempted, after gaining her freedom, was to obtain
a job. These women learned quickly, however, that they would not be equals just because they
were now free. The job opportunities available to black women, like many other aspects of their
lives, would be of much less quality than the jobs offered to the rest of the population. They
would be low paying, involve extended hours, and would put them in constant danger; black
women would have to negotiate the literal rough terrain of Atlanta and the social consequences it
imposed on their everyday lives as they struggled to earn a living for their families and searched
for peace of mind. They would have to persevere in their quest to work and support their household.
After the Civil War, all black citizens of the Unites States were allegedly free. The thirteenth
amendment banning slavery had been passed and the reconstruction of the South was moving
along swiftly. This promised freedom, however, was far from what was expected. There were
many laws and forces at work to keep blacks in some type of involuntary servitude. Some of the
laws that limited black freedom included making it a crime to hire away a worker who had been
under contract with a different employer (so called enticement laws), various contract enforcement
statutes that bound the black worker to their employer, and vagrancy statutes in which unemployed

How Peacekeeping Operations Evolved Over Time Essay
International peacekeeping efforts are a relatively new feature in military strategy. They have
their roots in earlier conflicts, most notably the First Schleswig War between Denmark and
Prussia in 1849 1850. A combined force of 3,800 troops from both Sweden and Norway with the
intent of maintaining law and order and keeping the peace were assembled, while an armistice was
worked out. This set the precedent for peacekeepingoperations that would become more
commonplace in the twentieth century. After the First World War
, the League of Nations was
established, the predecessor of what would later become the United Nations. The League was
established in large part to hopefully avoid another world war as devastating as the Great War,
as it was called. The League of Nations ultimately disbanded, giving way to the United Nations,
but peacekeeping operations increased and evolved to encompass broader and more complex
conflicts, including civil wars, which were ignored by the League out of respect for a nation s
sovereignty. This brief summary will address how peacekeeping operations evolved over time and
how these operations, or a specific operation, shapes the view of peacekeeping operations by the
American people. The League of Nations was established as a means to ensure international peace
and security through collective consultation and action. The early peacekeeping operations largely
depended on precedents, which established the rules and strategies to be followed in

actuary actually makes a good living when it comes to working, annually they make about
$97,070 so they make a pretty fair amount, especially for all the work that is put into it. The

The Effects Of Animal Testing On Human Society
The use of animal testing has been going on for a long time. Although there have been many
cases where people try to stop it or try to convince people that it is wrong in today s society it is
still happening all over the world. This research paper will talk about how in today s society is
racing to discover cures for diseases. How humans have made advancements in the world we
have also established the scientific evolution. By doing so our ethics and morals have failed to
progress. The knowledge that we gain throughout the years is remarkable but it is our
responsibility to use it wisely and ethically. We heartlessly torture and kill animals that we
consider lesser beings. For something as simple as eye makeup hundreds of animals are tortured
and blinded by test that are being done to them in laboratories where they are hardly being fed,
often forced to live in filth, sometimes they even remove their vocal cords to keep them quiet. We
pour cosmetic products into their eye and body parts to determine if it will have a harmful effect on
humans. Animals posses the same emotions and feelings as humans and without any care they are
subjected to pain. Mankind fails to give animals respect they deserve, they are treated with lifeless.
Something that needs to be changed.
Animal testing has been going on for centuries and it will probably continue that way if we don t
share the truth. Humans do not think that animals are on the same level as them so they treat them

INTRODUCTION
The Vedic periodalso referred to as the vedic age was that period in the Indian History during
which the Vedas, the oldest scriptures of Hinduism were composed. The Indo Aryans, settled in
North India were very closely related to the Vedic Age and its inception. They played a key role
in bringing in specific religious traditions and customs which is commonly referred to as the Vedic
Civilization. In the civilizations early days, it was a tribal and pastoral society based in the
northwestern parts of the Indian Subcontinent. It spread to the Ganges Plain after 1200 BCE
shaped by the increasing settled agriculture, a hierarchy of four social classes and the unfolding of
monarchial, state level polities.

Child Labor And Sweatshops In The United States
In the United States, child labor and sweatshops are illegal, and society frowns upon any business
that exploits children in the production of goods. Though most would say that they would not
support a company that uses child labor to produce its goods, almost everyone has, in fact,
knowingly or unknowingly, supported these businesses in one way or another. Children are
involved in the production of many of the everyday goods we import from overseas, including the
manufacturing of clothes, shoes, toys, and sporting equipment, the farming of cocoa, cotton,

The Pros And Cons Of Globalization
Abstract
Globalization can be viewed as a system of interactions or global relationships between economies
and people from all different countries over the world. Globalization can be contended as a device
for financial development, headway and thriving through co operation between the created and
creating nations. Those in favor of globalization argue that the advantages of globalization conveys
to creating countries outperforms the negative effects caused by globalization, and possibly even
going above that to express that it is the best bet for developing these new national to flourish and
emerge. Be that as it may, the genuine inquiry to be asked is in the matter of what degree are the
positives contended upon without considering the negative parts of globalization towards creating
nations.
Globalization can be seen as a two edged sword, since it affects and influences all ages of
individuals, monetarily, politically, naturally, and socially. Globalization has its advantages, by
connecting a large number of individuals around the globe, making them presently more engaged
in light of globalization, however there are many other issues that can arise from social and
financial improvement on a global scale. Along these lines, my paper will debate that development
and advances given by globalization to developing nations is useful in here and now, yet over the
long haul, it will just bring upon negative effects and difficulties because of the obstructions

What Is The Similarities Between The Scarface And The...
I. Introduction
Scarface is a crime drama film that is famously known for being one of the most violent and
profanes films during its time of release. Focusing on the rise of Tony Montana (Al Pacino) on
the criminal ladder and becoming more psychotic as his career as the leader of his drug empire
progresses, leading to his eventual downfall. Directed by Brian de Palma, written by Oliver Stone
and with performance of the cast with the lead Al Pacino, Scarface became a cult classic among the
masses.
The Godfather is a mob film focuses on the Corleone Family, with its head Vito Corleone(Marlon
Brando) trying to find a suitable heir to his empire, while war is breathing down the neck of other
crime families. Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) then steps in to organize the family back to shape.
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based from the novel of the same name written by Mario
Puzo. It received critical acclaim by critics and was cited as an influence by real life mobsters due
to its rather realistic portrayal of gangster life and Cosa Nostra.
Even with the similarities of theme, both movies have a parallel between how it portrays itself, and
it further widens the gap due to its difference of timelines.

Classical Music And Its Influence On The Modern World
There are many types of music in the world, with many different artists, backgrounds, and stories
to tell. Every genre holds within itself a message, and this message shows a glimpse of the past
as well as the possibilities of the future. People everywhere love music for these reasons and
more, and I love one style of music in particular: a style that brings me comfort, makes me
question the world, and gives me insight as to who I am. Classical music describes a genre that,
for me, means more than just notes on the page or in the air; the music speaks to a deep and
wonder seeking part of me that cannot quite be described using words. The true evolution of
primitive music began around 1750 during the Classical Era in Europe, with the pioneering works
of Mozart and Haydn, as well as many others. Deriving from these great composers, the genre
further evolved during the Romantic and Modern Eras by encompassing a deeply emotional and
expressive side unlike anything heard before. Indeed, these periods of music entail a vast and rich
history of pieces written to please royalty, soft and haunting works of lost love, and vast orchestral
suites that try to capture the majesty of the natural world. Such vast detail and eloquent
composition allows the listener of classical music to immediately be transported to another time,
another world, and especially another mindset. Other genres of music may contain hints of these
same elements, but none can fully compare to the true qualities

Conflict Resolution Within The Workplace
It is imperative that leaders develop problem solving methods to address conflict resolution within

conflict within the workplace. A description of a workplace conflict at my current place of

The Importance Of Print Media Advertising
Today, the increase in the popularity of social networking has changed advertisements on the
internet. We are seeing new forms of advertising taking place in the form of apps for phones which
are connected to online websites. With advertising seemingly expanding every day businesses
wonder, is print media advertisingstill effective?
The facts seem to point toward print media advertising still being very effective depending on the
company s goal. According to Ian Linton from Chron.com and Manohar (2013), Print media
advertising is a form of advertising that uses physically printed media, such as magazines and
newspapers, to reach consumers, business customers and prospects.
With its many forms it is no wonder why print media is still used by many companies, although
it has seen a significant decrease. In fact, nowadays it would seem that newspapers and other
forms of print media would not be the way to advertise for your company, but a key idea is
missing. According to an article found on contentmanagementsoftwares.net, there are over 1,600
different national newspapers in circulation every day plus all of the local newspapers. This is a
downside because there is a huge velocity of advertisements, but it is still a cheap and effective
way to reach the consumer.
Rebecca Harnden, CEO of Humboldt Light Dep, LLC, offers this tip to get new small businesses
in front of pre qualified leads cheaper than regular print runs.
Contact your local newspaper and ask if they have any upcoming special event features.
Newspapers run special inserts during the weeks of special events. The cost for printing in one
of these special inserts or handouts is usually much less expensive than running an ad in the
regular newspaper, since less people will see it. However, the people who do see it will be
interested in your product or service.
She offers this example, if you are a wedding planner, run an ad in a seasonal industry specific
newspaper insert or in a newspaper produced program distributed at a bridal fair. You know the
people who see your ad will be brides or know a bride to be, making your campaign much more
effective for much less money! According to Forbes.com, print media advertising is not dead and it

In 1995, when the ACA was in the process of revising its code of ethics, I proposed a model rule
based on the Hatherleigh article. The ACA adopted the proposed rule with minor changes. This
rule, which set precedent for state laws (such as the Florida statute mentioned above) and other
professional codes of ethics in counseling and psychology (such as the American Mental Health
Counselors Association code), permitted disclosure under certain conditions. This rule, which I
named the Contagious, Fatal Diseases rule, states, A counselor who receives information
confirming that a client has a disease commonly known to be both communicable and fatal is
justified in disclosing information to an identifiable third party, who by his or her relationship with
the client is at a high risk of contracting the disease. Prior to making a disclosure the counselor
should ascertain that the client has not already informed the third party about his or her disease and
that the client is not intending to inform the third party in the immediate future. (ACA, B.1.d) In
developing and defending the provisions of this rule, I used broad standards of moral conduct from
two venerable traditions in ethics: (1) Kantian Ethics and (2) Utilitarian Ethics. According to the
Kantian tradition, moral propriety requires that persons be treated as ends in themselves and not

Comparing Nozick s Experience Machine And The Matrix
In this essay I shall discuss how the film, The Matrix (1999), engages in a form of cinematic
philosophy. Specifically, I will discuss how the film can be seen as making an objection to the
position held by Sidgwick (1907), who asserts that, positive states of consciousness, or, pleasure, is
ultimately the only thing inherently valuable, which in turn becomes the basis of his utilitarian
ethics. In doing so, I consider The Matrixto be a cinematic adaptation of Robert Nozick s (1974)
experience machine thought experiment, which the filmmakers bring to life, developing it into a
narrative that pulls heavily on our moral emotions. However, although the film makers skilfully
elicit the appropriate emotional responses from viewers, ensuring... Show more content on

Furthermore, the specific differences can be explained when we consider the needs of a
narrative in order for it to be successful (Carroll 1996). In Nozick s original thought experiment,
we are asked to imagine being presented with the experience machine while we are in the midst
of a life in the real world, with entrance into the experience machine being entirely voluntary,
where we will not be used by others for their own purposes (Nozick 1974: 43). Whereas, in The
Matrix, individuals are born into the Matrix with the truth of the real world kept from them, and
there they are used as mere means for the ends of the machine rulers. In Nozick s construction,
the fact that we are already living life in the real world when asked to consider plugging in ,
even if it leads to an existence filled with pleasure, works to activate aspects of our psychology
which skews our responses in favour of his argument (Lazari Radek Singer 2014: 258).
Specifically, we are prone to status quo bias, where it has been shown that people have a
preference to stay in their current situation when faced with the prospect of change (De Brigard
2010). And, loss aversion , where individuals have a tendency to be unwilling to give up what they
already have, even if what they can get offers greater benefits (Kahneman Tversky 2000: 163).
Moreover, when researchers modify the thought experiment to allow for these psychological
factors, they end up with results that conflict with Nozick s judgement, thereby undermining his
position (Lazari Radek Singer 2014: 257 259). Thus, although people might intuitively agree with
Nozick, it is not because they so strongly value life in reality over pleasure. Instead, their answers
are heavily influenced by

security), has imposed positive and negative effects on many countries and cultures. This paper
focuses on tourisms impact on Jamaica and the consequences dams have had in Thailand. For both
countries globalization has had both advantages and disadvantages.
Tourisms Effect on Jamaica Globalization through tourismhas had a significant effect on Jamaica.
Originally, tourism was intended to profit the country by tourist spending. It was believed the
economy would grow from an increase in job availability. Also, the conjecture of most Jamaicans
was the hotels generated tourist spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there were advantages for the Thailand people, for many Thai it has had more negative
than positive effects. Major Challenges in balancing the benefits of clean electricity, water storage
and flood control from the dams against negative impacts. These include population displacement,
obstruction to fish movements up and down the river, and changes in water and sediment flow .
(Richardson, Michael 2009). The disadvantages began to out way the advantages. Building of Pac
Moon Dam and other Dams have affected Thailand in several other adverse methods. It severely
decreased fish up to 60%. According to the Foundation for Ecological Recovery, the rivers
fishing industry alone is worth up to 3 billion annually, and the existing dams are already
decreasing that profit. (Blake, Haley 2009). Whole species became extinct. The river had 50
different rapids that flowed with river dependent fish. Riverbank vegetation, Bamboo, and
mushrooms began to disappear. Liver fluke, Blood fluke, and Schistosomiasis increased due to
stagnant water. Villagers were dependent on income generated from fish, bamboo and
mushrooms. Food and income deteriorated. Many Villagers moved away. Their lives and
livelihood depended on the river. The people of Pac Moon Dam had already experienced the ill
ecosystem change from past dams built as expressed in

National Alliance On Mental Illnesses
There are many organizations that have a huge impact on society, the one I chose to write about is
the National Alliance on Mental Illness, also referred to as NAMI. NAMI is the most popular
mental health organization. Members of this organization work hard to better the lives of those
affected by mental illnesses. The National Alliance on Mental Health has four priorities, those are
educating, advocating, listening, and leading. Mental health is a growing topic that is hard to
ignore, this is because organizations like the NAMI have offered many educational tools in hopes
of teaching society what mental illnesses are and how to help people struggling with mental
illnesses. This organization advocates for others suffering mental illnesses,... Show more content on

The NAMI has shown society how serious mental illnesses are, if one of these many illnesses is
left untreated it can lead to even more serious things. Anxiety and Depression are a deadly
combination and unfortunately, 20% of the teen population experiences and over 25 million
Americans experience it every year. Both of these mental illnesses are hard to handle and often
end in suicide, 90% of people who commit suicide have a mental disorder and 50% of these
suicides are caused by depression. Every day around 121 people kill themselves and with society
s help, we can end this. Also, both of these mental illnesses can lead to eating disorders and other
serious health issues. Once everyone realizes how serious mental illnesses are, the more help these
people will

Adoption And Abortion In The Film Cider House Rules
In the film Cider House Rules, the doctor offers two taboo services, one that is legal and the
other that is not. The movie takes place around the early 1940 s when abortion was still illegal.
Dr. Larch is a physician that offers women the choice of adoption or abortion for babies they have
decided they are unable to keep. In many ways, adoption and abortionmight seem like complete
counterparts, however, they do have a few similarities that allow them to coexist. They are each an
alternative to becoming a parent. Whichever the womanchooses, she will not be pushed into
raising a child before she is ready. Each of these allows the woman to continue to follow her
career and educational goals. These goals women have in mind won t have to be put on hold to
raise a child. Both of these choices are an emotional processes that can be challenging. While these
choices may be somewhat different, neither is an easy choiceto make. Homer Wells, who is the
main character, is faced with many moral dilemmas as his life develops. Homer is an orphan
who was born at the orphanage and Dr. Larch takes him under his wing as a young boy. Dr.
Larch teaches Homer to be a doctor and perform deliveries, among various other procedures. As
Homer becomes a mature physician, he makes the decision not perform abortions because he feels
it is unethical. He considers every life to be precious, and is grateful that his mother made the
decision to leave him at the orphanage instead of aborting him. I feel

What are the different threats to the sustainability of Synthes` competitive advantage?
Synthes has several threats to consider in the near and upcoming future. The first threat we can talk
about is with regards to imitation. Imitation is a big deal in the internal fixation device industry.
Synthes has become the leader in this market due to several competitive advantages, for example
the affiliation with AO, which surgeons take as a sign of confidence. These advantages have been
able to sustain them with huge market share and very high sales during the last 20 years. They have
also created other competitive advantages within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The threat level is still low because the first trial of bioresorbable failed and the second
generation has not yet fully convinced surgeons. But most doctors seem open to the idea or
already use some of the bioresorbable derivatives to substitute some of Synthes` products today.
The difference from the first generation bioresorbable products to the second one improved
drastically and the third generation could eventually be almost as effective as today s solutions.
If Synthes is not fully prepared there could be a very big threat to the company not only in sales
but also reputation because they are known for being the top dog and always offering the newest
products for internal fixation. A company with a similar strategy (affiliation to AO, good sales
reps, high quality product) could not only imitate but also substitute if the product part were to be
able to be effective and accepted by doctors. Although there are threats in a competitive industry
such as this one, we believe that Synthes has enough actual and probable competitive advantages
to sustain throughout time as a leader in the internal fixation industry. When we discuss the S
Curve for Synthes, we could see that bioresorbable technology is slow and improving poorly
because it is not understood quite well. If anybody gets it right we could see the acceleration
process and this is where Synthes would be highly

How Bill Gates Is The Man He Is Today
The best way to predict the future is to create it . This is correctly stated by Peter Drucker, and
upheld by all visionaries who created history in the world of technology. The 20th century marked a
major turning point in computer advancements that changed the world forever with Microsoft
leading the way. Bill Gates, the co founder of Microsoft, always envisioned Microsoft to be a leader
in the computer industry, and that is exactly what he accomplished. Today, Microsoft has not only
touched and changed the life of the common man, but it has revolutionized the business, medical,
production and communication sector of the work world. Through taking risks, and believing in
both himself and his product, Bill Gates is the man he is today.... Show more content on

Within this environment it is essential for entrepreneurs to be innovative and prepared. Having a
strong willed attitude allows an entrepreneur to build on their business strategies because their
mind is not deterred from what they want to accomplish. The element of success behind Gates
strategy of being strong willed is definitely due to his personal character. When Gates first
developed Microsoft he was determined to get his company to the top of the technological
industry. Dear Love stated in his book His competitive spirit and personal drive to succeed was
legendary (Dear Love, 89). This exemplifies how Bill Gates truly did have the drive to complete
tasks at hand, and this was all apart of who he was as a person. Having a strong willed attitude is
an essential step to becoming successful in whatever you wish to pursue, just as Bill Gates has
displayed in his many years of success. Overall, Gates being head strong and confident about his
software is definitely what allowed him to rise to the top. He believed in his product, which made
everyone else believe in it too.
Determination is a key element to the strategy of anyone who wants to become successful. If you
are not determined to succeed you are less likely to do so. Bill Gates was always determined to
make his software company into the huge corporation it is now. Dear Love in his book writes,

Avram In The Odyssey
In this parsha we meet our first forefather Avraham, who is commanded by Hashem to leave his
land, his birthplace and fathers house to go to a land he will inherit. This happens about 2000
years before the common era, and Hashem promises to make him into a great nation and bless
him throughout the world. Avraham becomes a man with a historic mission, to become the father
of a new nation which would through its suffering and pain, profoundly influence our
civilization. Who was this man Avraham, whom Hashem chose to enter into an everlasting
covenant? Avraham was the son of a pagan, and grew up in an environment of evil. But he rose
above this environment and created a way of life and religion we call our heritage. He chose to
be different to become the first Hebrew, (which means literally from the other side ), he spoke
with moral standards of his time, and pursued his quest for a better and more meaningful way.
Avraham showed that a person can make a new beginning. By example, by deed, by holding to an
ideal, one person can touch another he,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rashi explains: he educated them l mitsvot (in the commandments). And it was probably not the
first time he did this. At God s command Avraham leaves Haran with his wife, Sarai, his nephew,
Lot, v et hanefesh asher asu b charan ( and the persons/souls they had acquired/made in Haran
[12:5]). Onkelos translates this as the souls they brought into the realm of the Torah, and Rashi
brings the Midrash that Abraham converted the men and Sara the women. The Chizkuni, a
commentator from 13th France, goes one step further. He says about this phrase ( the souls they
made in Haran ) kan matchil matan Torah, the Giving of the Torah starts here. Not with Moshe at
Sinai, but with Avraham, the mechanech (educator), back in

  • 2. Texas Tick Fever Research Paper What became known as Texas tick fever probably arrived in North America sometime in the seventeenth century carried by cattle brought by Spanish colonists from the West Indies. It was transmitted by the cattle tick which required 200 or more frost free days per year for survival. Therefore, its spatial extent was the southern states. Initially, southerners were not terribly concerned about the disease since cattle was rarely a primary economic investment in the southern United States. Antebellum Texas was an exception since it dominated the national cattle industry. By the 1850s farmers in states such as Missouri were turning back cattle drives from Texas for fear of infecting their herds. In some instances there were violent confrontations, assaulting and even killing some of the cowboys. Eventually northern states intervened to protect their herds, instituting quarantine laws against southern cattle. In 1892 the federal government delineated a quarantine line that followed the northern border of permanent fever infestation. The accompanying regulations stated that cattle could only be moved to northern markets between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The construction of vats, enforcement of quarantines, inspection of heards, and treatment of all stock in a particular area all required a high level of cooperation between government agencies and farmers. Presently there is no cure for cancer, but there are many measures that can be taken to prevent a violent crime. Cities all across the country have experimented with ways to reduce the amount of violence in their areas. A key term to know, in order to better understand this topic, is a hot break in. A hot break in is when a burglar enters a home, while the occupants are still in the building. Of the break ins in America, only 13% were hot , while Canada had a 48%, and Britain with a 59%. Many assume this to be due in some part to the gun ownership of America. Criminals in America are worried more about getting themselves killed breaking into a house, than in those other countries. An example of violence prevention, is the case of Kennesaw, Georgia. In 1982 the city was facing a serious home invasion and homicide epidemic. Their crime rate was 25% higher than that of the state average at the time. The mayor passed an ordinance requiring every home to have a gun. Within 2 months of the ordinance being passed, burglaries had dropped 89%, and homicides had been significantly reduced. The mayor then released a statement stating that, Gun ownership for home protection is considerably more beneficial to the entire community than all other anti burglary measures. Another prime example of a plan that effectively reduces violent crime, is Orlando, Florida. In the late 1960 s, there was a serious rape epidemic. The city created a program training women in self defense tactics and firearm use. While rape increased in the country and Florida, the amount of rapes dropped 88%, and as a favorable side effect, burglaries dropped 22%, and there was a quantifiable decrease in homicides. After the First World War , the League of Nations was established, the predecessor of what would later become the United Nations. The League was established in large part to hopefully avoid another world war as devastating as the Great War, as it was called. The League of Nations ultimately disbanded, giving way to the United Nations, but peacekeeping operations increased and evolved to encompass broader and more complex conflicts, including civil wars, which were ignored by the League out of respect for a nation s sovereignty. This brief summary will address how peacekeeping operations evolved over time and how these operations, or a specific operation, shapes the view of peacekeeping operations by the American people. The League of Nations was established as a means to ensure international peace and security through collective consultation and action. The early peacekeeping operations largely depended on precedents, which established the rules and strategies to be followed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By doing so our ethics and morals have failed to progress. The knowledge that we gain throughout the years is remarkable but it is our responsibility to use it wisely and ethically. We heartlessly torture and kill animals that we consider lesser beings. For something as simple as eye makeup hundreds of animals are tortured and blinded by test that are being done to them in laboratories where they are hardly being fed, often forced to live in filth, sometimes they even remove their vocal cords to keep them quiet. We pour cosmetic products into their eye and body parts to determine if it will have a harmful effect on humans. Animals posses the same emotions and feelings as humans and without any care they are subjected to pain. Mankind fails to give animals respect they deserve, they are treated with lifeless. • 30. Classical Music And Its Influence On The Modern World There are many types of music in the world, with many different artists, backgrounds, and stories to tell. Every genre holds within itself a message, and this message shows a glimpse of the past as well as the possibilities of the future. People everywhere love music for these reasons and more, and I love one style of music in particular: a style that brings me comfort, makes me question the world, and gives me insight as to who I am. Classical music describes a genre that, for me, means more than just notes on the page or in the air; the music speaks to a deep and wonder seeking part of me that cannot quite be described using words. The true evolution of primitive music began around 1750 during the Classical Era in Europe, with the pioneering works of Mozart and Haydn, as well as many others. Deriving from these great composers, the genre further evolved during the Romantic and Modern Eras by encompassing a deeply emotional and expressive side unlike anything heard before. Indeed, these periods of music entail a vast and rich history of pieces written to please royalty, soft and haunting works of lost love, and vast orchestral suites that try to capture the majesty of the natural world. Such vast detail and eloquent composition allows the listener of classical music to immediately be transported to another time, another world, and especially another mindset. Other genres of music may contain hints of these same elements, but none can fully compare to the true qualities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We are seeing new forms of advertising taking place in the form of apps for phones which are connected to online websites. With advertising seemingly expanding every day businesses wonder, is print media advertisingstill effective? The facts seem to point toward print media advertising still being very effective depending on the company s goal. According to Ian Linton from Chron.com and Manohar (2013), Print media advertising is a form of advertising that uses physically printed media, such as magazines and newspapers, to reach consumers, business customers and prospects. With its many forms it is no wonder why print media is still used by many companies, although it has seen a significant decrease. In fact, nowadays it would seem that newspapers and other forms of print media would not be the way to advertise for your company, but a key idea is missing. According to an article found on contentmanagementsoftwares.net, there are over 1,600 different national newspapers in circulation every day plus all of the local newspapers. This is a downside because there is a huge velocity of advertisements, but it is still a cheap and effective way to reach the consumer. Rebecca Harnden, CEO of Humboldt Light Dep, LLC, offers this tip to get new small businesses in front of pre qualified leads cheaper than regular print runs. Contact your local newspaper and ask if they have any upcoming special event features. Newspapers run special inserts during the weeks of special events. The cost for printing in one of these special inserts or handouts is usually much less expensive than running an ad in the regular newspaper, since less people will see it. However, the people who do see it will be interested in your product or service. She offers this example, if you are a wedding planner, run an ad in a seasonal industry specific newspaper insert or in a newspaper produced program distributed at a bridal fair. Specifically, I will discuss how the film can be seen as making an objection to the position held by Sidgwick (1907), who asserts that, positive states of consciousness, or, pleasure, is ultimately the only thing inherently valuable, which in turn becomes the basis of his utilitarian ethics. In doing so, I consider The Matrixto be a cinematic adaptation of Robert Nozick s (1974) experience machine thought experiment, which the filmmakers bring to life, developing it into a narrative that pulls heavily on our moral emotions. However, although the film makers skilfully elicit the appropriate emotional responses from viewers, ensuring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the specific differences can be explained when we consider the needs of a narrative in order for it to be successful (Carroll 1996). In Nozick s original thought experiment, we are asked to imagine being presented with the experience machine while we are in the midst of a life in the real world, with entrance into the experience machine being entirely voluntary, where we will not be used by others for their own purposes (Nozick 1974: 43). Whereas, in The Matrix, individuals are born into the Matrix with the truth of the real world kept from them, and there they are used as mere means for the ends of the machine rulers. In Nozick s construction, the fact that we are already living life in the real world when asked to consider plugging in , even if it leads to an existence filled with pleasure, works to activate aspects of our psychology which skews our responses in favour of his argument (Lazari Radek Singer 2014: 258). Specifically, we are prone to status quo bias, where it has been shown that people have a preference to stay in their current situation when faced with the prospect of change (De Brigard 2010). And, loss aversion , where individuals have a tendency to be unwilling to give up what they already have, even if what they can get offers greater benefits (Kahneman Tversky 2000: 163). Moreover, when researchers modify the thought experiment to allow for these psychological factors, they end up with results that conflict with Nozick s judgement, thereby undermining his position (Lazari Radek Singer 2014: 257 259). Thus, although people might intuitively agree with Nozick, it is not because they so strongly value life in reality over pleasure. Instead, their answers are heavily influenced by ... • 41. Synthes Case Synthes Case Study Team S Santiago Sanchez Villalba Bharat Pawar Morris Li Jose Llanos Tiia Paananen What are the different threats to the sustainability of Synthes` competitive advantage? Synthes has several threats to consider in the near and upcoming future. The first threat we can talk about is with regards to imitation. Imitation is a big deal in the internal fixation device industry. Synthes has become the leader in this market due to several competitive advantages, for example the affiliation with AO, which surgeons take as a sign of confidence. These advantages have been able to sustain them with huge market share and very high sales during the last 20 years. They have also created other competitive advantages within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The threat level is still low because the first trial of bioresorbable failed and the second generation has not yet fully convinced surgeons. But most doctors seem open to the idea or already use some of the bioresorbable derivatives to substitute some of Synthes` products today. The difference from the first generation bioresorbable products to the second one improved drastically and the third generation could eventually be almost as effective as today s solutions. If Synthes is not fully prepared there could be a very big threat to the company not only in sales but also reputation because they are known for being the top dog and always offering the newest products for internal fixation. A company with a similar strategy (affiliation to AO, good sales reps, high quality product) could not only imitate but also substitute if the product part were to be able to be effective and accepted by doctors. Although there are threats in a competitive industry such as this one, we believe that Synthes has enough actual and probable competitive advantages to sustain throughout time as a leader in the internal fixation industry. When we discuss the S Curve for Synthes, we could see that bioresorbable technology is slow and improving poorly because it is not understood quite well. If anybody gets it right we could see the acceleration process and this is where Synthes would be highly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
