support systems are developed and used on regular missions. However, determining
the most suitable life support system for missions on Mars presents a challenge that
this paper will solve. This article compares different life support systems using the
Equivalent System Mass (ESM), which measures the relative cost of hardware
based on its mass, volume, power, and cooling requirements. Bioregenerative
systems are more practicable and secure for longer missions as they avoid the cost of
constant food supply. However, the ESM shows that the higher initial cost of
bioregenerative systems makes it way more expensive than the Physical/Chemical
systems for long duration missions. For short duration missions, the least expensive
life support uses direct provision of water, oxygen and food from Earth. As Mars
missions aren t brief, the physical/chemical life support system is the most suitable.
The ESM breakeven analysis confirms these well known and widely accepted results.

family learns to survive without her, and in the end Julie and her family have a

The first act does a nice job in showing Julie s ordinary world. Her husband is
financially in trouble and this event forces Julie to get a job. However, it s still not
clear what the goal for Julie is.
Thus, there needs to be a stronger first act break that leads into the second act. This
should involve something to do with spying or computer crimes. By the end of the
first act something should occur that locks Julie into a goal to spy on her boss or
on Derek. Maybe she accidentally receives a suspicious email at the end of the first
act and this locks her into spying.
The second act should be driven by her goal (spying) and the suspense should
intensify as the story progresses. Right now, because the goal for Julie isn t well
defined, the structure feels a bit fragmented as if it s has no direction. The audience
isn t sure what they are rooting for.
It s not until the second half, after page 54 that the goal for Julie becomes clearer and
the stakes rise i.e. being framed and her life is in danger. Make sure to place
emphasizes on what s at stake for Julie.
However, the actual crime involving software, selling it to China, the back door etc.
does get a bit convoluted and challenging to follow. It s not clear who Kim is really
working for and why she would betray her friend.

Joseph Conrad s s novel Heart of Darkness portrays an image of Africa that is dark
and inhuman. Not only does he describe the actual, physical continent of Africa as so
hopeless and so dark, so impenetrable to human thought, so pitiless to human

true human life. Conrad lived through a time when European colonies were scattered
all over the world. This phenomenon and the doctrine of colonialismbought into at his

Comparing Divergent And The Maze Runner
My two novels, Divergent and The Maze Runner, have many similarities that I
would like to discuss. Firstly, both novels focused on being thrust into a brand new
world that the characters were not used to. Thomas(The Maze Runner

Thomas started from a person who was scared, confused, and curious, into the one

hand, Tris was a quiet Abnegation girl who was struggling to fit into Dauntless.

being The Social Contract and The First and Second Discourses, which we read
and discussed in class. In this book we got to take a look at some of Rousseau s
famous political writings. In his writings, Rousseau addresses many controversial
topics about society, which caused him to make enemies and he eventually had to
flee. One topic in particular that Rousseau discussed was in his book The Social
Contract where he wrote about the idea of the death penalty and how he supports it.
The death penalty is controversial and should not be allowed due to the fact that our
government is killing a person who was convicted for doing a similar crime. The
Social Contract was written in 1762 and addresses the legitimacy of political
authority. One specific topic that Rousseau writes about to discuss political
authority is the power of the sovereign in book II of The Social Contract. Rousseau
describes the sovereign as the law or authority. In The Social Contract, Rousseau
