Michael Corleone s Transformation
In this paper I will argue that in his film, The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola orchestrates the
filmic elements (especially: editing and mise en scГ©ne) to give the audience an intimate view of
the complex world of a Mafia Don: Coppola s techniques sensitively portray the life and
transformation of Michael Corleone; he leaves his status as a family outsider to become king of the
underworld.
Michael is the son of Vito Corleone, Don of the Corleone Crime Family1. The story of The
Godfather is the story of both Vito and Michael. Vito passes away and leaves his throne to
Michael, who steps out of a seemingly innocent world ordinary American life to receive his father s
crown and to assume control of the Corleone Family. As my thesis... Show more content on

He is fat and he moves slowly, though thoughtfully. In a distinct contrast, Al Pacino s Michael
resembles a nervous and self conscious prince. He sulks at the table. He speaks quickly in a high
voice and emphasizes his words like an adolescent.
Though marked, their physical differences are not as important as the differences between their
worlds, their settings. Vito appears in an almost pitch black room. The only things in the room
which are lit are Vito s face, his desk, a lamp in the background and the face of any one of Vito s
four suppliants. And the seclusion of the this world is depicted by the size and sounds of the office:
though it is not claustrophobic, the room is quite small; and there are no background sounds, only
the main conversation.
In sharp contrast, Michael appears with Kay as opposed to the entirely male world of his father.
His father is inside a dark office, while Michael is outside at a lively Italian wedding reception.
Children are running everywhere, men and women are dancing, eating, and drinking. The setting is
bright, colorful, open, and full of music and laughter.
The distinctions between these two settings are polar, as are the characteristics of these two men
who epitomize their respective worlds. Michael lives in traditional America; he attended an Ivy
League school; he is a decorated war hero. Vito lives in the underworld; he is

How Change Is Necessary For The Sake Of The Business
Rough Draft Submission
There comes a time in many organizations when change is necessary for the sake of the business.
Knowing the importance and implications of organizational change and admitting the fact that the
change is required for its success as well as understanding that sometimes that change involves the
replacement of a leader can play a key role in implementing these changes. When a business is not
meeting the required expectations it is important to do the research to find out exactly where the
inaccuracies are coming from and move forward from their with the transformation. To meet the
highly competitive shifting environment of business and trends, there is a continuous need for
organizations to change their business model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the identifying of the situation, is where the leader will find their natural style (Fiedler,
Mahar, 1979).
The time for change has come to the Pemancar Company. Pemancar is an automotive part
production company that was established in the late 1970 s and is located in Peninsular,
Malaysia. Through the years the company has been owned by several different state and federal
government agencies. In the mid 1980 s the company was taken over by KL Corporation
(KLCorp), this corporation is one of Malaysia s leading conglomerates. Also since the KLCorp
acquired Pemancar, the company has made an agreement with a Japanese company that would
ensure that Pemancar would be equipped with the latest technology as well as the expertise of their
production. The Pemancar Company employs approximately 1700 employees between the seven
different departments; the employees carry the positions of operators, clerical staff, supervisors,
and management (Abdullah, 2012).
Pemancar is the largest plant in the northern part of Peninsular, Malaysia and has received
recognition for both the national and international levels including several quality and
management awards while under KLCorp. The plant operates twenty four hours a day, seven
days a week with an average of 345 days a year. Even though it was a small business under
KLCorp, it was still considered as one of the best model plants with high profits. Between the

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Tropical...
Tropical Rainforest More than half of the world s tropical rainforests can be found in Central
and South America, however they are also present in south eastern Asia and Africa. All of the
world s tropical rainforests can be found at the approximate location of 20 degrees latitude, also
known as the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. These types of
areas exist because of the specific climate, soil types, and diversity present in these regions. This
specific area falls in the equatorial and tropical zone and are therefore their climates are controlled
by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and it s low pressure centers around the equator.

Below the understory there is a woody shrub layer and non woody herb layer (citation). An
adaptation present in many trees native to this area is the drip tip . This is advantageous because if
water is allowed to sit on leaves and then the hot sun returns it can easily burn the leaves causing the
trees to be stressed and often defoliate. The other limiting factor that determines the type of
vegetation present in the tropical rainforest is soil. The tropical rainforest possesses well developed
soil, however it maintains no visible O and A horizons. Thus attributing to the nutrient poor soil
quality. Soil in tropical rainforest also has relatively low soil productivity. This is because as
one organisms dies the nutrients left behind that would normally replenish the soil, are quickly
(if not immediately) re uptake into neighboring trees, fungi, and similar organisms. The soil can
be described as sandy and loamy and it s appearance is red/orange in color with a prevalence of
Aluminum and Iron with a pH of approximately 4.5 5.5 all of these characteristics classify the
soil as an Oxisol. The tropical rainforest is considered a carbon sink because it uses more CO2
than it produces. There is an estimated 17 kilograms of carbon per square meter stored in
rainforests. They are deemed the 2nd largest carbon sink for soil and the largest carbon

The Pros And Cons Of Fingerprinting And Blood Testing
Fingerprinting and blood testing are two types of assessments to make a positive identification of
a criminal. Since everybody s fingerprints are diverse, it is easy to compare them through a
computerized program that forensic scientists use. In order to prove if the DNA of a victim and a
criminal match, there are steps that must be followed carefully and correctly.
There are many reasons why fingerprinting is used as an important methods for identification (Hall,
2015). As stated by Hall (2015), A fingerprintconsists of several identifiable characteristic, such as
loops, arches, whorls, islands, and bifurcations. The arrangement, frequency, and design of these
features are among the many characteristics used to distinguish prints from one another (p. 510).
Everybody s fingerprints are the same. Fingerprints are kept in Federal and state agencies of the
within the law. When someone commits a crime, a forensic scientist takes fingerprints and match
them through the database in computers. Since fingerprinting does not go against the Fifth
Amendment, a search warrant is not required. Fingerprints can be matched with someone s hair
down the color of their eyes. Another type of type of recognition to identify someone is through
blood tests, and it is used in the U.S. Benches. The individuals who has this procedure done may
feel pain and get sick from the procedure.
Since this procedure constitutes a search as outlined in the Fourth Amendment, authorization from

Hubble Telescope Research Paper
The Hubble, has given us nothing less than an ontological awakening, a forceful reckoning with
what is the telescope compels the mind to contemplate space and time on a scale just shy of the
infinite. implied Ross Anderson, an engineer. With this one telescope, created by a normal
astronomer, scientists and astronomers are able to see space as never seen before. They are able to
make mind boggling observations that contemplate space to an infinite scale. Thousands of
discoveries about space have been observed through this lense and without the magnitude of high
level instruments compiled into this large instrument most of these observations would never have
been discovered. As proposed by Floyd E. Bloom a researcher, on izquotes.com, As... Show more

As stated on nasa.gov, Hubble has made more than 1.2 million observations since it s missions
began in 1990. Hubble has also expanded astronomers knowledge about the universe and space as a
whole. The most famous observation made by this telescope was that of galaxies beyond our own,
Milky Way, and discovering that the universe is much larger than further predicted. Before this
telescope, ground based telescopes could only see into our galaxy and could not reach any
further. Therefore, it was thought that the Milky Way was the only galaxy included in space and
the universe. Due to the fact, Hubble s telescope, expands and allows for the study across a wider
light spectrum, astronomers can see beyond further predicted. Another famous observation,
studied by astronomers was that of the study of uncharted territories of the cosmos. As proposed
on hubblesite.org, It became increasingly clear to astronomers that Earth s atmosphere distorted
starlight, which made it difficult to obtain razor sharp views of celestial objects. The idea of
placing a telescope in space, above Earth s turbulent air, had been kicked around for several years.
But scientists pondered how to transport a telescope into space. That was until, Hubble s creation
that displayed imagery of the cosmos. Once again it had accomplished a feat that had troubled
ground based telescopes. In

Analysis Of The Book Deaf By Mark Drolsbaugh
In 1997, Mark Drolsbaugh printed a book titled Deaf Again. In this book, Mark narrates his life
story from a hearing child to deaf adult and all of his hardships. Mark was a hearing child born
to deaf parents. As he matured, his hearing began to worsen and soon he was labeled as deaf,
communicating became harder. He would make mistakes in class and be ridiculed for it. He did
not understand the reason for the ridicule and eventually stopped putting effort in his studies. A
pediatrician told his parents to look into speech therapy and hearing aids for him. His parents felt
he would be happier if he connected more with his hearing side than subject him to a life ruled by
his disability. However, his parents were fluent in ASL and regularly communicated with each other
by signing. His guardians felt being taught to sign would hinder his development. As he aged, he
experienced a larger disconnect from the hearing world, resulting in an isolating feeling. Eventually
Mark learned ASL and gradually let the Deaf culturebecome a bigger part of his life. As his
involvement in the Deaf culture grew he found a comradery that he had never had before. Soon, he
began to see the value that came from communication and relationships with others above all else.
Mark mentions how his parents decided against teach him to sign when he was a child. This was
because they felt it would be hindrance to his speech development and limit his educational
progress. This is a common occurrence in the

On this assignment we are going to research all energy sources and their drawbacks, we are also
going to explore on some the negative ramifications that even the clean hydropower have,
additionally we are going to weigh those against the possible consequences of developing nuclear
power, a controversial alternative to fossil fuels. We will discuss the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear
disaster as well as the 20th century Chernobyl nuclear meltdown in drawing conclusions about risk
versus reward of nuclear energy use.
As we all can see all energy sources have drawbacks even the clean hydropower, some of the
advantages of clean hydropower energy are as follow: Nuclear power generation does emit

Maximal Oxygen Uptake And Vo2max Is The Highest Rate At...
Maximal oxygen uptake or Vo2max is the highest rate at which the oxygen can be taken up and
utilized by the body during severe exercise (Bassett Howley, 2000). Vo2max is wide ly used both
in sports and clinical practice and its measurement allows us to assess cardi orespiratory fitness,
one of the most powerful markers of health (Mayorga Vega, Aguilar Soto Viciana 2015; Bruce,
Kusumi Hosmer 1973). Vo2max also provides essential di agnostic and prognostic information
for clinical populations, such as patients with heart failure (Sartor, Vernillo, de Morree, et al.,
2013). The most precise method for the assessment of maximal oxygen consumption is the
direct measurement which is considered the gold standard (Noonan Dean, 2000). However, the
use of this method is limited in several settings such as in sports clubs, schools, or in large scale
research studies (Pescatello American College of Sports Medicine, 2014) because it requires
appropriate and expensive equipment, supervision by trained personnel and a max imal level of
exertion which cannot be achieved by all the individuals and especially those who may be limited
by pain, fatigue, abnormal gait, impaired balance or those with cardio vascular problems(Evans,
Ferrar, Smith, et al., 2015). As a consequence, many indirect tests have been developed for use in
sports, clinical and home settings but there are sundry fac tors which must be considered when we
select one of them. Such factors are the population that we

Genide And The Rwandan Genocide
Genocides have always been present throughout history, whether it is Julius Caesar s slaughter of
the Gauls during his conquest between 58 BCE and 54 BCE or the Rwandan Genocide in the late
20th Century. Even though they have been around for thousands of years, the term, genocide only
recently received a formal definition. In 1948, during the aftermath of World War II and the
Holocaust, the United Nationscame together to establish a concrete definition for the term genocide.
Their definition stated genocide as:
acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious
group, as such:
a.Killing members of the group;
b.Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
c.Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical
destruction in whole or in part;
d.Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
e.Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
This definition is still applicable to events that occurred before its creation though, and one event
in particular definitely falls into these criteria. The Australian Aborigines disappearance is much
more than a group of people simply disappearing, it is actually a genocide spread across
hundreds of years, starting in the late 1780 s and formally being acknowledged and apologized for
in 2008. This is definitely a genocide, going by the criteria established by the UN Convention. The

Essay on The Use of Sound in the Graduate
The use of sound in The Graduate
The movie The Graduate was a pioneer for the film industry in regards to its use of popular music
as non diegetic sound throughout the film. The Simon and Garfunkel sound track fit in very
nicely to set the tone of the film and give the audience clues as to what the characters were
feeling. Aside from the non diegetic sound the diegetic sound was also used very effectively to
express character emotions, in particular Ben s emotions. Ben s disconnect from society as a whole
could have been discovered in the scene in which his father is having him present his birthday
present; the use of sound was so strong it would not be difficult to completely understand the scene
even without the visuals.

We know that he wants to be heard, but is brushed to the side. We also can assume that he is
locked in this scuba gear but is unable to make any verbal communication nor is he able to
accept any verbal communication. The plunge into the water could have signified a parallel to
his actual feelings. He is now completely disconnected from anyone around him and when he
tries to resurface to get back to the world something forces him to go back under once again
prohibiting his ability to speak for himself, much like how he was repeatedly disregarded and
pushed away by his father earlier in the scene. Finally when we open our eyes up we see that
everything assumed from just the audio is pretty true. In fact we learn that it was his father who
kept pushing him under the water and preventing him to resurface where the rest of the party was.
In my other movie watching endeavors I have found that being underwater is very symbolic of a
disconnection from society. One example in particular is found in the movie Old School in which
Will Ferrell s character is hit with a tranquilizer dart and ends up trying to get help from the people
at the party he is at but inadvertently falls into a swimming pool. Interestingly enough the song The
Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel begins to play. I found this interesting because The
Graduate also uses the same song at other points to illustrate Ben s inability to communicate with
the outside world. I think that had

very few who has continued to produce movies even if sometimes her films fail to break even at
the box office, because according to her, filmmaking is her passion and mission in life. The things
that she achieved without the help of anybody aside from her husband gave rise to the
development of her self esteem. Now she is ready to reach self actualization after surpassing all the
stages of the hierarchy of needs presented by Abraham Maslow.
Acceptance of self, others, is the nature of Mother Lily Monteverde that helped her reached self

Candide in El Dorado
The Meaning of El Dorado and its contrast with the rest of the world: El Dorado appears to be the
perfect utopia, for others it represents an unrealistic place to live. For Voltaire this world meant
his entire desire and dream about the perfect society. Many critics note that El Dorado is only a
huge extravaganza because it consisted of contradictory statements. The meaning of El Dorado is a
vision of the perfect society and represents a false paradise impossible to attain or approach by the
destructive humannature. El Dorado contrasts with the rest of the world because at the time

The real society in which Voltaire lived is composed for many institutions that he attacks in
various opportunities such as the church and the monarchy. For example, when Candide arrived
to El Dorado and he sees that all the people believe in the same thing and there s not a priest, no
hierarchy, and all the people are equal. That s a good strike from Voltaire to the church claiming
that everybody must be equal. According with Dalnekoff, El Dorado is a foil to the societies
through which Candide has passed and will pass where the inquisition imposes a reign of terror,
and poverty, corruption and oppression are everywhere to be found. (Utopia and Satire)In contrast
of El Dorado with the contemporary system, we found that in the contemporary system much
oppression and abuses have been committed and in El Dorado the inhabitants are very virtuous;
they were a society with absence of many institutions.
A very questionable point in Candide and his extraordinary optimism is why if he believes that
everything obeys a divine pattern and all is for the best, why didn t he remain in El Dorado?.
Dalknekoff states that the motives given by Candide for departing are hardly worthy of
commendation. His desire to be richer than all those around him is certainly deplorable. (
Impossible dream) As Dalknekoff said, motives that move all human beings are money and the
desire for superiority.

In law enforcement, protecting lives, safeguarding property, and reducing crime is constantly

The Great Man Theory Of Leadership Essay
Leadership Theories To comprehend the part of a leader, we should first comprehend being a
leader. Through research, I ve discovered that there are a wide range of hypotheses in regards to
leadership. For this specific task, I ve investigated The Great Man Theory of Leadership, The Trait
Theory of Leadershipand The Role Theory of Leadership.
The Great Man Theory of Leadership The Great Man Theory of Leadership came in the mid
nineteenth century. Advanced by Thomas Carlyle, The Great Man Theory of Leadership
fundamentally underpins the possibility that awesome leaders are conceived not made. As
indicated by the site www.leadership central.com, this specific hypothesis sees extraordinary
pioneers as the individuals who are foreordained by birth to wind up a leader. The conviction was
that extraordinary leaders will rise when gone up against with the proper circumstance. Carlyle, an
essayist and instructor, promoted this hypothesis in his book On Heroes, Hero Worship, and the
Heroic in History . Carlyle faced resistance from the English thinker Herbert Spencer. Spencer
trusted that heroes are basically the result of their times and their gallant activities, the aftereffect of
social conditions.
The Trait Theory of Leadership The Trait Theory of Leadership came to fruition in the 1930s
1940s. This hypothesis trusts that a man is either conceived or shows certain qualities that will
permit them to exceed expectations in a leadership position. Once more, as per

Micro And Macro Analysis Of Social Theory Of Herbert...
Micro and Macro Analysis in the Social Theory of Herbert Marcuse. The themes outlined in
Herbert Marcuse s Eros and Civilisation and One Dimensional Man have roots in both Marx s
political economic theory and Freud s psychology. In explaining the existence of society, Marcuse
shows how the motivations of the individual maintain the social world, but are also shaped by
structural forces. Through an extension of Marx s argument and the application of Freud s
psychology, Marcuse explains how the creation of the one dimensional man maintains social order
and suppresses civil unrest. Yet, the revolution Marx envisages could be a possibility, once liberated
from one dimensional thought. Both micro and macro social analysis is used by Marcuse, without
an attempt to create a meta theory. Providing a Marxist critique of society, Marcuse argues for
human choice and compliance within existing social structures.
Through the discussion of socialisation , repressive desublimation and surplus repression this
essay will demonstrate how Marcuse s theoretical approach was influenced by classical theorists
Marx and Freud, as well as consideration of the key debate in sociology regarding the primacy of
structural forces or personal agency in understanding and explaining the social world. This can
subsequently be traced to contemporary theorists, notably, Giddens development of structuration
theory and Archer s understanding of society as a reflexive ongoing process.

Essay On Is Golf A Sport
Global Perspectives 2015/2016
IS GOLF REGARDED AS A GAME OR A SPORT?
I was a pitcher, and my dad played in college. The hardest day of my life was telling him I was
going to quit to focus more on golf. But with golf, I felt like the game can t be perfected, and that
motivated me.
Jordan Spieth, Current World No.1 (2015)
What is golf?
Golf is a club and ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls in a 9 or 18 hole course
by playing as few strokes as possible.
What makes golf a unique game?
Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.
Arnold Palmer, former 7 time major champion.
Though from the introduction golf may seem like an easy sport to learn, but there are its difficulties
to it.

In a website by thesportster.com, it tells 10 reasons why golf should NOT be regarded as a sport.
In a debate created by ProCon.org, which calls itself as a nonpartisan research organization devoted
to critical thinking on controversial issues, it asked that question.
For this, they have presented 12 arguments of both sides of the issue. Within the 12 arguments
there was the argument of whether golf is a game or a sport in dictionary definition. Merriam
Webster defines sport as a physical activity engaged in for pleasure: a particular activity (as an
athletic game). But Merriam Webster defines a game as an activity engaged in for diversion or
amusement, which better suits the definition as a game rather than a sport.
To counter that argument, a British Medical Journal s studies show that the golf swing uses at
least 17 muscle groups in the coordinated movement of the hands, wrists, arms, abdomen, and
legs. But the website also states that if golf can be played while drinking and smoking, then it is
not considered a sport. The website shows a picture of an overweight John Daly playing a shot while

Oedipus (Aristotle 1961, p. 1453a). Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero comprises the character
Oedipus. Oedipus displays several qualities as a tragic hero to included the cause of his
downfall. Even though Oedipus is not known as a wise scholar, he did have the ability to outwit
the Sphinx and solve the riddle. This story of the Sphinx adds to his respect and sets up an
emotional feel to like Oedipus character. Oedipus earns sanctification as a King by saving the
natives of Thebes, which gains him more influence as he comes a consecrated King of the city.
Even the Priest addresses Oedipus by saying, Great Oedipus, O powerful King of Thebes
(Sophocles 425, p. 860). Oedipus character has sainthood like status. Even with his this status,
Oedipus has a treacherous ethical wrongdoing. He is in an incest relationship with his mother,
despite not knowing she was his mother. Using Aristotle s definition, Oedipus s downfall does not
stem just from his evil. This downfall stems from his pride and a combination of different issues.
One issue that contributes to Oedipus downfall is his anger. Oedipus becomes very angry when the
blind prophet warns him by saying, Am I to bear this from him? Damnation Take you! Out of this

Relationship Between Growth Opportunities And Amount Of...
relationship can be observed by comparing the small companies, where SOCO has $0.8bn retained
earnings and zero debt, while JKX has almost $0.4bn and some debt in their capital structure.
4.3. Growth Empirical studies suggest a negative relationship between growth opportunities and
amount of leverage. The market to book ratio (calculated as market value of equity over book
value of equity) is used as proxy of the growth opportunities available to a firm (Niu, 2008).
Growth opportunities are mainly intangible and thus not suited to serve as collateral or to be
liquidated. Hence firms with high growth potential might not prefer, or not even be offered, to raise
additional capital through debt financing (Jensen and Meckling, 1976).
Furthermore, due to agency conflicts, managers of companies with high leverage (debt controlled)
may forgo positive NPV projects, because the returns of such project will be transferred to debt
holders rather than shareholders. Therefore, highly leveraged companies might have low amount of
investment opportunities and thus a lower growth rate (Myers, 1984).
Rajan and Zingales (1995) support this inverse relationship and suggest, that firms with high
market to book ratios suffer under higher bankruptcy costs. The shares of such companies are
overvalued and thus the company may prefer issuing stock. This equity may be raised at lower
costs, due to the signals that a high market to book ratio is sending to the market. Therefore firms
with a high

My First Experience Of Heartbreak
Think back to the first time you experienced heartbreak; Was it when you broke up with your first
girlfriend/boyfriend? Was it when a loved one passed away? When I was fourteen, my dog, my best
friend passed away and this was my first experience with heartbreak. I had always wanted a dog, a
golden retriever, to be more specific. When I was eleven years old my dream came true; I was
surprised by my parents with a dog. We became fast friends, getting closer over the years. When
Tucker, my fourteen year old golden retriever, died my heart broke into as many pieces as a
fourteen year old girl s heart could. Experiencing heartbreak is a deep suffering that you feel will
never go away, but the memories of happiness seem to ease the pain over time.
I remember the first time I met my four legged best friend very clearly. It was mid March and an
unusually warm day. My allergies were terrible that day, my nose was red and my eyes were
puffy and watery. I was sitting in my room when the phone rang, it was my mom; she instructed
me to go outside to the van. I followed her directions, not knowing what to expect, when the van
door opened; a beautiful, red haired, golden retriever jumped out and ran straight to me. I
wrapped my arms around him, which took a bit of effort because he was so overweight. I looked
up at my mom, who was smiling, and asked in disbelief Is he mine? to which she replied, Yes, his
name is Tucker. I was crying tears of joy, which were combined with tears due to

Comparing the Mormon Religion to Catholic and Protestant Faiths
The Mormon religion is very unique in many of its doctrine. While technically a Protestant faith, the
Mormons generally share more doctrine with the Catholics. Because of its unique nature, I will be
analyzing the Mormon faith, its history, organization, and doctrine, in comparison with the beliefs
held by both Catholics and Protestants.
Establishment
On April 6, 1980, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints (aka the Mormon Church) was
founded. [It is interesting to note that according to Mormon doctrine (Doctrine and Covenants
20:1), April 6 is the birthday of Jesus Christ.] 10 years prior to this event, in 1820, fourteen year

Both Martin Luther and John Wesley shared the belief that Catholic faith had strayed from the
truth as is seen in their respective quotes: I have sought nothing beyond reforming the Church in
conformity with the Holy Scriptures. . . . . . . I simply say that Christianity has ceased to exist
among those who should have preserved it. (Luther and His Times, E.G. Schweibert) and It does
not appear that these extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghost were common in the Church for more
than two or three centuries. We seldom hear of them after that fatal period when the
Emperor Constantine called himself a Christian; . . . From this time they almost totally ceased; . .
. The Christians had no more of the Spirit of Christ than the other Heathens . . . . This was the
real cause why the extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghost were no longer to be found in the
Christian Church; because the Christians were turned Heathens again, and had only a dead form
left. (The Works of John Wesley, vol. 7)
While the Mormons agree with other Protestants that the Catholic Church had become corrupt with
its indulgences , purchase of church offices, etc., the Mormons differed somewhat in their solution
to this problem. The Protestants sought to reform the problems they saw evident in the Catholic
faith. The Mormons, however, believing that all faiths upon the Earth had fallen away from the true
church established by Christ, sought to restore

Comparing The Tolkien s The Hobbit
The contrast between different types of leadership appears in the chapter Flies and Spiders in
J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit. The chapter starts off with the group no longer having Gandalf lead
them through the perils that lie in the Mirkwood. Thorin helps lead the group past a deadly river
that cannot be touched and helps them until he is captured by elves. Bilbo battle spiders and saves
the dwarves on multiple occasions in Thorin s absence. In this chapter you see a new contrast in
Throrin and Company. No longer having Gandalf Thorin picked up the mantle of leadershipand lead
by command. Bilbo then assumed the role of leadership in Thorins absence and lead by putting
others first, putting himself on the line. As the story progresses you have these two types of
leadership contrasting throughout the story. Ultimately in the end Bilbo s was of leadership proved
to be better.
When entering the Mirkwood Gandalf left the group leaving Thorin to lead the group through
the woods. Thorin leads the group by command through Mirkwood usually delegating who
should do what in the group. As the group is trying to find their way across the river on pages
132 133 Thorin takes command of the situation. Once the group had a solid plan Thorin
delegates the order of travel Who shall cross First said Bilbo I shall said Thorin, and you will come
with me and Fili and Balin. That s as many as the boat will hold at a time. (133) Thorin goes on

Individuals who have suffered the chickenpox infection develop lifetime immunity as they are
unlikely to be infected by it again. However, the virus remains dormant in the body and it can start
reactivating later in life (Golas, Bennett, White, Skarf, Lesser, Nagel, Gilden 2015)..
Signs and symptoms of chickenpox
It is important to understand that anyone who has not had chickenpox or received the chickenpox
vaccine can be infected by the disease. Chickenpox infections usually do last a period of about 5 10
days. The common symptom of chickenpox is a rash that turns into itchy, fluid filled blisters that in
the end turn into scabs.
Other signs and symptoms, which may before the rash, include:
high fever
tiredness
loss of appetite
headache
Once the chickenpox rash appears, it goes through three phases:
Raised pink or red bumps, which break out over several days. They may first shows up on the
face, chest, and back before spreading to other parts of the body, which may include inside the
mouth, eyelids, or genital area.
Fluid filled blisters, this forms from the raised bumps. They may take about one day prior to
starting breaking and leaking.
Crusts and scabs, which cover the broken blisters and take several days to heal.

The Schlieffen Plan Created By General Alfred Von Schlieffen
The Schlieffen Plan created by General Alfred Von Schlieffen in 1905 in WWI was believed to
be a foolproof operation intended for German victory over the French and Russian alliance by
holding off Russia with minimal strength and swiftly defeating France by a massive movement
through the Low Countries. Failure of precise instruction led to Britain declaring war on
Germany. The Schlieffen plan was an ineffective approach on the Germans behalf as Britain, the
rivalry country to Germany, had mobilized their troops to help France against Germany in
accordance to the alliance treaty withholding Britain, Serbia and Russia (Entente Alliance). There
are abounding reasons of failure however time, direction and change come in as the most logical
to the argument. Timing had to be everything, using the Schlieffen Plan, the German army had to
defeat France before Russia could mobilize. The plan was made on the assumption that Germany
would mobilize its units, send them to France and defeat France before Russia could finish their
mobilization. For this to result germany had to mobilize first, however during the war had Russia
mobilized their troops first in response to Austria Hungary s planned attack on Serbia. Now when
the Germans began sending their men to France while Russia were close to finishing their
mobilization. So when the Germans were approaching Paris, the Russian s quickly attacked into
Germany s eastern front which was guarded by only a few soldiers, since most

According to the National Center for Assisted Living, (2001) assisted living facilities are typically
stand alone facilities, but can often be a part of another facility within the long term continuum of
care such as a nursing home, senior housing complex, retirement community, or independent
living apartments. Assisted living facilities are different in appearance than nursing homes and
other facilities in that they tend to offer a more home like environment. These residences may be
condominiums, a residential house, or apartments with personalized decorations and room
layouts. They typically offer common areas for dining and activities. Approximately half of ALF
s are non profit, with the other half being for profit facilities. Very few assisted living facilities
are government run. Because licensing regulations vary from state to state, ALF s can be known
by various names including residential care, board and care, domiciliary care, personal care etc.
Assisted living facilities offer different levels of care depending on the amount of assistance the
resident requires. Most of these providers are licensed at level three, which means they can accept
patients with low, moderate, or high care needs (University of Maryland,

I could have died. I only remember bits and pieces of that cold, brisk New Year s Day. I recall

me. Once we got home, I ran upstairs to get changed into my riding clothes. I had gotten new
riding pants and boots for Christmas and was eager to break them in. After all three of us
changed our clothes, we bundled up and headed out to the barn. It is a cute little red barn with a
tin roof, built in the 1800 s with three stalls, one my dad added in, and a huge hayloft. I was so
excited that I was bouncing on the balls of my feet while waiting for my dad and brother to grab
their halters. I was gripping my horses purple halter and lead rope tightly in my hands. I looked

brother s. (Technically I didn t pay for my two horses, but my dad lets me call them mine.) One

Urinary Bladder Research Paper
My organ is the urinary bladder for the organ paper. The function of the urinary bladder is a
storage container temporarily for urine, until it is expelled through the urethra. The elasticity of
the bladder is unmatched as it has the ability to increase in size to make room for increases in
urine volume from 600 to 800 ml at maximum capacity. The reason for this elasticity is due to the
visceral muscles and transitional epithelium located in the walls of this hollow organ, that allows
this distensibility enabling it to fill and empty multiple times every day. Another function of the
bladder is to aid in expelling urine from the body by contracting the detrusor muscle as well as the
relaxing of the urethral sphincter; the external urethral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cardiovascular system plays an immensely important role in the urinary system, without proper
blood supply to the kidneys there would be no filtration and no urine to pass into the bladder.
Proper blood supply is essential and renal failure would be catastrophic to the process of urination.
Maintaining healthy renal arteries and veins is very important also to the respiratory system which
keeps the tissues oxygenated, without this the tissue could not perform the duties required or even
stay alive. The immune system could undesirably affect the kidneys as well, which would impede
the flow of urine to the bladder. Acute or systemic inflammation on the urinary system would
directly affect the bladder as well, this is why we need the immune system to keep this
inflammation at bay. Kidney damage from this would directly affect all the systems mentioned
here, so it is very important to keep the immune system healthy not just for the sake of the urinary
system but almost every system of the human body. The urinary system although often overlooked
is extremely valuable and required to stay alive and maintain homeostasis. So is the bladder and if

COMPARE AND CONTRAST BOURDIEU S APPROACH
TO THE AGENCY/STRUCTURE DICHOTOMY
WITH THAT OF GIDDENS
In recent years, several authors have attempted to deal with the problem of the relationship between
agency and social structure. This has manifested itself in the theory of structuration. Anthony
Giddens structuration theory is one of the best known and most articulated efforts to integrate
agency and structure. His theory proposes a duality of structure, in that agency and structure cannot
be seen as independent of one another. Pierre Bourdieu is another important theorist to contribute to
this agency structure debate. His theory of habitus and field is concerned principally with
overcoming the opposition between objectivism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giddens response to this apparent problem is to emphasize the difference between option and
feasible option (Thompson, 1989). An individual who has only one option is not an agent, for
there is no possible way in which that individual could have done otherwise. But an individual
who has only one feasible option is an agent. This is because the option is only limited to one in
that given the individual s wants and desires, there is only one option that the individual would
regard as reasonable to pursue (Thompson, 1989). A possible course of action would not be an
option for an agent if it had no relevance to anything that the agent wanted. Giddens manages to
preserve the link between structure and agency by defining agency in such a way that any
individual in any given situation could always be an agent.
The core of the structuration theory lies in the ideas of structure, system, and duality of structure.
Structure only exists in and through the activities of human agents. It is what gives form and shape
to social life, but it is not itself that form and shape. Without this structure, social systems would not
exist. Giddens does not deny the fact that structure can be constraining on action, but he feels that
sociologists have exaggerated the importance of this constraint. Furthermore, they have failed to
emphasize the fact that structure

History Of The Campaign Finance
History of The Campaign Finance in the U.S
Campaign finance in the United States is the financing of electoral campaigns at the federal, state,
and local levels. At the federal level, campaign finance law is enacted by Congress and enforced by
the Federal Election Commission (FEC), an independent federal agency. Although more campaign
spending is privately financed, public financing is available for qualifying candidates for President
of the United States during both the primaries and the general election. Eligibility requirements
must be fulfilled to qualify for a government subsidy, and those that do accept government funding
are usually subject to spending limits on money.
To gain votes from recently enfranchised, unpropertied voters, Andrew Jackson launched his
campaign for the 1828 election through a network of partisan newspapers across the nation. After
his election, Jackson began a political patronage system that rewarded political party operatives,
which had a profound effect on future elections. Eventually, appointees were expected to
contribute portions of their pay back to the political party. During the Jacksonian era, some of the
first attempts were made by corporations to influence politicians. Jackson claimed that his charter
battle against the Second Bank of the United States was one of the great struggles between
democracy and the money power. While it was rumored that The Bank of the United States spent

location to retire would consider Jacksonville. Certain businesses knowing the attitudes and culture
of beach and retirement type cities can use this information to determine if their businesses will
thrive in the First Coast. This information also indicates the overall culture of the city.
Sociographics Jacksonville s sociographics are not easily identifiable on the website. The
Chamber gives great indication of the type of easy living there is in Jacksonville, but the site
leaves little room to determine if the sociographics of the city are

Punishment and Sentencing Paper
Punishment and Sentencing Paper
CJA/224
Garrett LeGrange
September 17, 2010
There are many different philosophies that are in use in the court systems when determining what
sort of punishment will be imposed on someone who is found guilty of committing a crime. These
philosophies are in use in both the adult courts and juvenile courts. The juvenile court system is
similar to the adult courts, but there are many differences between the two. Both court systems try
and keep crime from happening and both courts sentence those found guilty to some sort of
punishment through the punishment philosophy that the court determines is a suitable approach
for preventing future crime. Deterrence is the first punishment philosophy. Deterrence is ... Show

This philosophy s thought is that the victim of a crime is part of the sentencing process. This means
that persons found guilty of committing crimes must compensate the victim of their crime.
Restoration is the attempt to make the victims of crimes whole again. This philosophy makes the
attempt to make someone guilty of a crime actually pay for their crime to the victim. The juvenile
court system has a higher concentration on rehabilitating offenders so that they do not end up in
adult courts. In the juvenile system, rehabilitation is the most used philosophy so that the children
in the courts may have the opportunity to live a life outside of prison. Adult courts do try and
rehabilitate those that are found guilty of committing crimes, but more often than not, rehabilitation
is combined with incarceration. Adult courts also differ from juvenile courts because in adult courts
there is a presentation of evidence to try and determine guilt. Juvenile courts on the other hand
examine the actions of a juvenile and try and determine how to rehabilitate the individual. The
sanctions that serve as a guide for judges are probably one of the most important tools that can be
used in courts. Adult and juvenile courts can both use sanctions to their advantage. When sanctions
are used properly, they can be a very good deterrent for those thinking about committing a crime.
These sanctions can be many different things assigned to crimes to help and deter

Student Athlete Identity
Homework in all my classes, two tests the next day, an essay to finish, and a soccer game in
Noblesville. This is all in one day. You miss 100% of the shots you don t take. said by the famous
Wayne Gretzky. Students all around the globe work hard to juggle being an athlete and a student
simultaneously. The foremost reason my cultural identity is centered on being a studentathlete is
because it can be extremely overwhelming and the only way to stay on top of the game is to stay
on schedule. There are many different results that occur from being a student athlete such as the
character traits, and the passion that you pick up along the way. In order to be an effective student
athlete not only must a person be willing to spend the time and effort practicing, but that person
must also be prepared for all of the obstacles that can come along the way such as; stress, character
flaws, and even weak mental strength. Being a student athlete is the most prominent thing in my
life, which is why it makes up the biggest characteristic of my cultural identity. Some of you may
have had first hand knowledge with being a student athlete... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When I got to high school last year, this became an concern, I began having missing assignments
and my grades started to drop dramatically, but after a month or so I started to get back on track
when I figured out a decent balance with sports. Like I said I also needed to find a way to
balance a social like with these two things as well. Because I selected soccer and decided to
become a student athlete, I had to accept the fact that I would have to miss out on some activities
others around me got to do. I realized that I would not be able to go to every party, and I was
okay with that. I am still able to do some of these things though. Like I ve mentioned it s all about

Battle Of Britain
The Battle of Britain was an extremely important piece of history that was almost completely
exclusive to air battles between the Royal Air Force and the German Luftwaffe. Luckily for Great
Britain, its air defense system was one of the most effective of its time. Luckily for Germany, the
Luftwaffe contained numbers that were far superior to Great Britain s, in terms of men and also the
amount of planes used in battle and in bombings. The Battle of Britainwas also the first big battle to
use radar on Great Britain s coast to its full potential. One of the biggest attacks planned by Hitler
was the attack on London, which ended up turning the battle in Great Britain s favor. And so the
Battle of Britain was known as exclusive to air battles,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Luftwaffe s attacks were one hundred percent focused on their military supplies, but it all
changed when the Royal Air Force launched a retaliatory attack on Berlin, Germany. This
retaliatory attack angered Hitler to the point that he dropped the progress made on the British air
bases and changed his targets of attack to the British cities. These bombings on the British cities
later became known as the London blitz(http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/blitz.htm) and the
biggest city by far that was targeted was London herself. As the weeks went on, London
sustained more and more bombings, of course, the citizens of the British cities suffered
tremendously, being quite powerless. Though this kept taking its toll on Great Britain s citizens
the Royal Air Force had the tension of the attacks on their bases relieved and began its recovery.
The Royal Air Force had time to repair the airfields that were out of commission and severely
damaged. With these repairs completed on the air bases, the Royal Air Force was more than ready
for the next German attack. The attack fleet came soon enough and they came with around one
hundred and twenty planes. The biggest attack in the Battle of Britain so far. The Germans
obviously wanted the city of London in ruins with an attack force like that, and if they did take out
the rest of london that would surely

Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper
Feminism, Womanhood, and The Yellow Wallpaper
The Victorian period in American history spawned a certain view of women that in many ways has
become a central part of gender myths still alive today, although in a diluted way.
In this essay, some characteristics of this view of women, often called The Cult of True Womanhood
, will be explored with reference to Thomas R. Dew Dissertation on the Characteristic Differences
Between the Sexes (1835). Some of the feminist developments arising in conflict with this ideal
will also be traced. Then, in accordance with my view that literature and culture is often
interrelated, I will proceed by with an analysis of Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow
Wallpaper as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, it was believed that this was so, and some explained this as an expression of
gratitude for the civilizing effect religion had had on them! This is of course connected with the
ideal of purity, now that women were no longer primitive slaves of passion, they had no sexual
pleasure or desire, and were thus pure and chaste. This period was on other words also a period of
sexual repression and prudery.
Needless to say, women found their confinement within the domestic circle to be like a prison,
and the protectiveness Dew describes with such glee was restrictive, posing a real problem
concerning the use of one s time. What were women to do? Dew, as an educator, suggests that
studies could be pursued, but only to cultivate ...all those feminine graces and thus reinforce the
very culture women presumably wished to escape! No wonder the first universities for women,
which started in the 1830s, were not widely attended. Especially with attitudes like that expressed
by a prominent physician in 1870: Why destroy a good housewife by making an ordinary
grammarian?
It must be noted that the values and ideas expressed here, are distinctive of an urban, WASP,
middle class ideology. In contrast, we see that the Western states had a completely different view
of women. They were not settled yet in the Victorian age, and women had to work just as much as
men, both on the land and inside the house, there was in many ways more

The City Of The United States
Also known as the Show Me State, Missouri is known for their capital, Jefferson City. The
beautiful Bluebird is their state s bird with the gorgeous Flowering Dogwood tree that fills the
lands. They have a population of over five million people and land approximately seventy thousand
square miles across. The Show Me State is also known for their Gateway Arch that draws several
tourists and residents all year long. The Arch in St. Louis is the country s tallest manmade
monument. It was built at an incredible 630 feet when completed in 1965. The Gateway Arch is to
commemorate the importance of settling in the West following the Louisiana Purchase.

This would authorize the people of the territory to form a constitution and a state government and
this was the goal they hoped to achieve. They also set out for the admission of the territory to be in
the Union and on equal footing with the original states. By 1819, Congress was considering
allowing legislation. This would authorize Missouri to frame a constitution for the state. Missouri
wanted admission from the Union and the Northern states opposed it. They felt as if the Southern
states that were slaveholding had too much power already. Also, the Constitution allowed states to
count each slave as three fifths of a person. They determined population with these numbers
which raised the amount of Congressional representatives the state could have. Thus, the South
had an advantage in Congress. After the first petition was applied, a debate occurred over the
government s right to restrict slavery. Since popular support in northern states for the restriction
of slavery remained high, northern politicians had strong incentives to oppose the admission of
any new states with slavery (Forbes, 2007). The Missouri Compromise came about in 1820. It
was an effort for the Senate and House of Representatives to seek a balance of power between the
slave states and the Free states. After a debate, the Missouri Compromise was passed in February
of 1821. This served notice to the North that Southerners did not want slavery to end and they
wanted to expand it. Because of the

  • 2. Michael Corleone s Transformation In this paper I will argue that in his film, The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola orchestrates the filmic elements (especially: editing and mise en scГ©ne) to give the audience an intimate view of the complex world of a Mafia Don: Coppola s techniques sensitively portray the life and transformation of Michael Corleone; he leaves his status as a family outsider to become king of the underworld. Michael is the son of Vito Corleone, Don of the Corleone Crime Family1. The story of The Godfather is the story of both Vito and Michael. Vito passes away and leaves his throne to Michael, who steps out of a seemingly innocent world ordinary American life to receive his father s crown and to assume control of the Corleone Family. He sulks at the table. He speaks quickly in a high voice and emphasizes his words like an adolescent. Though marked, their physical differences are not as important as the differences between their worlds, their settings. Vito appears in an almost pitch black room. The only things in the room which are lit are Vito s face, his desk, a lamp in the background and the face of any one of Vito s four suppliants. And the seclusion of the this world is depicted by the size and sounds of the office: though it is not claustrophobic, the room is quite small; and there are no background sounds, only the main conversation. In sharp contrast, Michael appears with Kay as opposed to the entirely male world of his father. His father is inside a dark office, while Michael is outside at a lively Italian wedding reception. Children are running everywhere, men and women are dancing, eating, and drinking. The setting is bright, colorful, open, and full of music and laughter. The distinctions between these two settings are polar, as are the characteristics of these two men who epitomize their respective worlds. Michael lives in traditional America; he attended an Ivy League school; he is a decorated war hero. Vito lives in the underworld; he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tropical Rainforest More than half of the world s tropical rainforests can be found in Central and South America, however they are also present in south eastern Asia and Africa. All of the world s tropical rainforests can be found at the approximate location of 20 degrees latitude, also known as the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. These types of areas exist because of the specific climate, soil types, and diversity present in these regions. An adaptation present in many trees native to this area is the drip tip . This is advantageous because if water is allowed to sit on leaves and then the hot sun returns it can easily burn the leaves causing the trees to be stressed and often defoliate. The other limiting factor that determines the type of vegetation present in the tropical rainforest is soil. The tropical rainforest possesses well developed soil, however it maintains no visible O and A horizons. Thus attributing to the nutrient poor soil quality. Soil in tropical rainforest also has relatively low soil productivity. • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Fingerprinting And Blood Testing Fingerprinting and blood testing are two types of assessments to make a positive identification of a criminal. Since everybody s fingerprints are diverse, it is easy to compare them through a computerized program that forensic scientists use. In order to prove if the DNA of a victim and a criminal match, there are steps that must be followed carefully and correctly. There are many reasons why fingerprinting is used as an important methods for identification (Hall, 2015). As stated by Hall (2015), A fingerprintconsists of several identifiable characteristic, such as loops, arches, whorls, islands, and bifurcations. The arrangement, frequency, and design of these features are among the many characteristics used to distinguish prints from one another (p. 510). Everybody s fingerprints are the same. As stated on nasa.gov, Hubble has made more than 1.2 million observations since it s missions began in 1990. Hubble has also expanded astronomers knowledge about the universe and space as a whole. The most famous observation made by this telescope was that of galaxies beyond our own, Milky Way, and discovering that the universe is much larger than further predicted. Before this telescope, ground based telescopes could only see into our galaxy and could not reach any further. Therefore, it was thought that the Milky Way was the only galaxy included in space and the universe. Due to the fact, Hubble s telescope, expands and allows for the study across a wider light spectrum, astronomers can see beyond further predicted. Another famous observation, studied by astronomers was that of the study of uncharted territories of the cosmos. As proposed on hubblesite.org, It became increasingly clear to astronomers that Earth s atmosphere distorted starlight, which made it difficult to obtain razor sharp views of celestial objects. The idea of placing a telescope in space, above Earth s turbulent air, had been kicked around for several years. But scientists pondered how to transport a telescope into space. That was until, Hubble s creation that displayed imagery of the cosmos. Once again it had accomplished a feat that had troubled ground based telescopes. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of The Book Deaf By Mark Drolsbaugh In 1997, Mark Drolsbaugh printed a book titled Deaf Again. In this book, Mark narrates his life story from a hearing child to deaf adult and all of his hardships. Mark was a hearing child born to deaf parents. As he matured, his hearing began to worsen and soon he was labeled as deaf, communicating became harder. He would make mistakes in class and be ridiculed for it. He did not understand the reason for the ridicule and eventually stopped putting effort in his studies. A pediatrician told his parents to look into speech therapy and hearing aids for him. His parents felt he would be happier if he connected more with his hearing side than subject him to a life ruled by his disability. However, his parents were fluent in ASL and regularly communicated with each other by signing. His guardians felt being taught to sign would hinder his development. As he aged, he experienced a larger disconnect from the hearing world, resulting in an isolating feeling. Eventually Mark learned ASL and gradually let the Deaf culturebecome a bigger part of his life. As his involvement in the Deaf culture grew he found a comradery that he had never had before. Soon, he began to see the value that came from communication and relationships with others above all else. Mark mentions how his parents decided against teach him to sign when he was a child. This was because they felt it would be hindrance to his speech development and limit his educational progress. This is a common occurrence in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Maximal Oxygen Uptake And Vo2max Is The Highest Rate At... Maximal oxygen uptake or Vo2max is the highest rate at which the oxygen can be taken up and utilized by the body during severe exercise (Bassett Howley, 2000). Vo2max is wide ly used both in sports and clinical practice and its measurement allows us to assess cardi orespiratory fitness, one of the most powerful markers of health (Mayorga Vega, Aguilar Soto Viciana 2015; Bruce, Kusumi Hosmer 1973). Vo2max also provides essential di agnostic and prognostic information for clinical populations, such as patients with heart failure (Sartor, Vernillo, de Morree, et al., 2013). The most precise method for the assessment of maximal oxygen consumption is the direct measurement which is considered the gold standard (Noonan Dean, 2000). However, the use of this method is limited in several settings such as in sports clubs, schools, or in large scale research studies (Pescatello American College of Sports Medicine, 2014) because it requires appropriate and expensive equipment, supervision by trained personnel and a max imal level of exertion which cannot be achieved by all the individuals and especially those who may be limited by pain, fatigue, abnormal gait, impaired balance or those with cardio vascular problems(Evans, Ferrar, Smith, et al., 2015). • 10. Genide And The Rwandan Genocide Genocides have always been present throughout history, whether it is Julius Caesar s slaughter of the Gauls during his conquest between 58 BCE and 54 BCE or the Rwandan Genocide in the late 20th Century. Even though they have been around for thousands of years, the term, genocide only recently received a formal definition. In 1948, during the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust, the United Nationscame together to establish a concrete definition for the term genocide. Their definition stated genocide as: acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: a.Killing members of the group; b.Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; c.Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; d.Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; e.Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. This definition is still applicable to events that occurred before its creation though, and one event in particular definitely falls into these criteria. The Australian Aborigines disappearance is much more than a group of people simply disappearing, it is actually a genocide spread across hundreds of years, starting in the late 1780 s and formally being acknowledged and apologized for in 2008. This is definitely a genocide, going by the criteria established by the UN Convention. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on The Use of Sound in the Graduate The use of sound in The Graduate The movie The Graduate was a pioneer for the film industry in regards to its use of popular music as non diegetic sound throughout the film. The Simon and Garfunkel sound track fit in very nicely to set the tone of the film and give the audience clues as to what the characters were feeling. Aside from the non diegetic sound the diegetic sound was also used very effectively to express character emotions, in particular Ben s emotions. He is now completely disconnected from anyone around him and when he tries to resurface to get back to the world something forces him to go back under once again prohibiting his ability to speak for himself, much like how he was repeatedly disregarded and pushed away by his father earlier in the scene. Finally when we open our eyes up we see that everything assumed from just the audio is pretty true. In fact we learn that it was his father who kept pushing him under the water and preventing him to resurface where the rest of the party was. In my other movie watching endeavors I have found that being underwater is very symbolic of a disconnection from society. One example in particular is found in the movie Old School in which Will Ferrell s character is hit with a tranquilizer dart and ends up trying to get help from the people at the party he is at but inadvertently falls into a swimming pool. Interestingly enough the song The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel begins to play. People who inherit the sickle cell trait from their parents, for example, may not ever display any symptoms of the disease and live normal lives ( Sickle Cell , 2015). In addition, a study by Appelbaum and Scurich (2014) revealed that sharing a defendant s genetic predispositions could be stigmatizing. Through research, I ve discovered that there are a wide range of hypotheses in regards to leadership. For this specific task, I ve investigated The Great Man Theory of Leadership, The Trait Theory of Leadershipand The Role Theory of Leadership. The Great Man Theory of Leadership The Great Man Theory of Leadership came in the mid nineteenth century. Advanced by Thomas Carlyle, The Great Man Theory of Leadership fundamentally underpins the possibility that awesome leaders are conceived not made. As indicated by the site www.leadership central.com, this specific hypothesis sees extraordinary pioneers as the individuals who are foreordained by birth to wind up a leader. The conviction was that extraordinary leaders will rise when gone up against with the proper circumstance. Carlyle, an essayist and instructor, promoted this hypothesis in his book On Heroes, Hero Worship, and the Heroic in History . Carlyle faced resistance from the English thinker Herbert Spencer. Spencer trusted that heroes are basically the result of their times and their gallant activities, the aftereffect of social conditions. The Trait Theory of Leadership The Trait Theory of Leadership came to fruition in the 1930s 1940s. This hypothesis trusts that a man is either conceived or shows certain qualities that will permit them to exceed expectations in a leadership position. Once more, as per ... • 20. Micro And Macro Analysis Of Social Theory Of Herbert... Micro and Macro Analysis in the Social Theory of Herbert Marcuse. The themes outlined in Herbert Marcuse s Eros and Civilisation and One Dimensional Man have roots in both Marx s political economic theory and Freud s psychology. In explaining the existence of society, Marcuse shows how the motivations of the individual maintain the social world, but are also shaped by structural forces. Through an extension of Marx s argument and the application of Freud s psychology, Marcuse explains how the creation of the one dimensional man maintains social order and suppresses civil unrest. Yet, the revolution Marx envisages could be a possibility, once liberated from one dimensional thought. Both micro and macro social analysis is used by Marcuse, without an attempt to create a meta theory. Providing a Marxist critique of society, Marcuse argues for human choice and compliance within existing social structures. Through the discussion of socialisation , repressive desublimation and surplus repression this essay will demonstrate how Marcuse s theoretical approach was influenced by classical theorists Marx and Freud, as well as consideration of the key debate in sociology regarding the primacy of structural forces or personal agency in understanding and explaining the social world. This can subsequently be traced to contemporary theorists, notably, Giddens development of structuration theory and Archer s understanding of society as a reflexive ongoing process. Merriam Webster defines sport as a physical activity engaged in for pleasure: a particular activity (as an athletic game). But Merriam Webster defines a game as an activity engaged in for diversion or amusement, which better suits the definition as a game rather than a sport. • 23. Relationship Between Growth Opportunities And Amount Of... relationship can be observed by comparing the small companies, where SOCO has $0.8bn retained earnings and zero debt, while JKX has almost $0.4bn and some debt in their capital structure. 4.3. Growth Empirical studies suggest a negative relationship between growth opportunities and amount of leverage. The market to book ratio (calculated as market value of equity over book value of equity) is used as proxy of the growth opportunities available to a firm (Niu, 2008). Growth opportunities are mainly intangible and thus not suited to serve as collateral or to be liquidated. Hence firms with high growth potential might not prefer, or not even be offered, to raise additional capital through debt financing (Jensen and Meckling, 1976). Furthermore, due to agency conflicts, managers of companies with high leverage (debt controlled) may forgo positive NPV projects, because the returns of such project will be transferred to debt holders rather than shareholders. Therefore, highly leveraged companies might have low amount of investment opportunities and thus a lower growth rate (Myers, 1984). Rajan and Zingales (1995) support this inverse relationship and suggest, that firms with high market to book ratios suffer under higher bankruptcy costs. The shares of such companies are overvalued and thus the company may prefer issuing stock. This equity may be raised at lower costs, due to the signals that a high market to book ratio is sending to the market. Therefore firms with a high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The elasticity of the bladder is unmatched as it has the ability to increase in size to make room for increases in urine volume from 600 to 800 ml at maximum capacity. The reason for this elasticity is due to the visceral muscles and transitional epithelium located in the walls of this hollow organ, that allows this distensibility enabling it to fill and empty multiple times every day. This has manifested itself in the theory of structuration. Anthony Giddens structuration theory is one of the best known and most articulated efforts to integrate agency and structure. Pierre Bourdieu is another important theorist to contribute to this agency structure debate. His theory of habitus and field is concerned principally with overcoming the opposition between objectivism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Giddens response to this apparent problem is to emphasize the difference between option and feasible option (Thompson, 1989). An individual who has only one option is not an agent, for there is no possible way in which that individual could have done otherwise. But an individual who has only one feasible option is an agent. This is because the option is only limited to one in that given the individual s wants and desires, there is only one option that the individual would regard as reasonable to pursue (Thompson, 1989). A possible course of action would not be an option for an agent if it had no relevance to anything that the agent wanted. Giddens manages to preserve the link between structure and agency by defining agency in such a way that any individual in any given situation could always be an agent. The core of the structuration theory lies in the ideas of structure, system, and duality of structure. Structure only exists in and through the activities of human agents. It is what gives form and shape to social life, but it is not itself that form and shape. Without this structure, social systems would not exist. Giddens does not deny the fact that structure can be constraining on action, but he feels that sociologists have exaggerated the importance of this constraint. Furthermore, they have failed to emphasize the fact that structure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. History Of The Campaign Finance History of The Campaign Finance in the U.S Campaign finance in the United States is the financing of electoral campaigns at the federal, state, and local levels. At the federal level, campaign finance law is enacted by Congress and enforced by the Federal Election Commission (FEC), an independent federal agency. Although more campaign spending is privately financed, public financing is available for qualifying candidates for President of the United States during both the primaries and the general election. Eligibility requirements must be fulfilled to qualify for a government subsidy, and those that do accept government funding are usually subject to spending limits on money. To gain votes from recently enfranchised, unpropertied voters, Andrew Jackson launched his campaign for the 1828 election through a network of partisan newspapers across the nation. After his election, Jackson began a political patronage system that rewarded political party operatives, which had a profound effect on future elections. Eventually, appointees were expected to contribute portions of their pay back to the political party. During the Jacksonian era, some of the first attempts were made by corporations to influence politicians. Jackson claimed that his charter battle against the Second Bank of the United States was one of the great struggles between democracy and the money power. While it was rumored that The Bank of the United States spent over $40,000 from 1830 to 1832 in an effort to stop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Punishment and Sentencing Paper Punishment and Sentencing Paper CJA/224 Garrett LeGrange September 17, 2010 There are many different philosophies that are in use in the court systems when determining what sort of punishment will be imposed on someone who is found guilty of committing a crime. These philosophies are in use in both the adult courts and juvenile courts. The juvenile court system is similar to the adult courts, but there are many differences between the two. Both court systems try and keep crime from happening and both courts sentence those found guilty to some sort of punishment through the punishment philosophy that the court determines is a suitable approach for preventing future crime. Deterrence is the first punishment philosophy. Deterrence is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This philosophy s thought is that the victim of a crime is part of the sentencing process. This means that persons found guilty of committing crimes must compensate the victim of their crime. Restoration is the attempt to make the victims of crimes whole again. This philosophy makes the attempt to make someone guilty of a crime actually pay for their crime to the victim. The juvenile court system has a higher concentration on rehabilitating offenders so that they do not end up in adult courts. In the juvenile system, rehabilitation is the most used philosophy so that the children in the courts may have the opportunity to live a life outside of prison. Adult courts do try and rehabilitate those that are found guilty of committing crimes, but more often than not, rehabilitation is combined with incarceration. Adult courts also differ from juvenile courts because in adult courts there is a presentation of evidence to try and determine guilt. Juvenile courts on the other hand examine the actions of a juvenile and try and determine how to rehabilitate the individual. The sanctions that serve as a guide for judges are probably one of the most important tools that can be used in courts. Adult and juvenile courts can both use sanctions to their advantage. When sanctions are used properly, they can be a very good deterrent for those thinking about committing a crime. These sanctions can be many different things assigned to crimes to help and deter ... The Battle of Britainwas also the first big battle to use radar on Great Britain s coast to its full potential. The Luftwaffe s attacks were one hundred percent focused on their military supplies, but it all changed when the Royal Air Force launched a retaliatory attack on Berlin, Germany. This retaliatory attack angered Hitler to the point that he dropped the progress made on the British air bases and changed his targets of attack to the British cities. These bombings on the British cities later became known as the London blitz(http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/blitz.htm) and the biggest city by far that was targeted was London herself. As the weeks went on, London sustained more and more bombings, of course, the citizens of the British cities suffered tremendously, being quite powerless. Though this kept taking its toll on Great Britain s citizens the Royal Air Force had the tension of the attacks on their bases relieved and began its recovery. The Royal Air Force had time to repair the airfields that were out of commission and severely damaged. With these repairs completed on the air bases, the Royal Air Force was more than ready for the next German attack. The attack fleet came soon enough and they came with around one hundred and twenty planes. The biggest attack in the Battle of Britain so far. This is of course connected with the ideal of purity, now that women were no longer primitive slaves of passion, they had no sexual pleasure or desire, and were thus pure and chaste. This period was on other words also a period of sexual repression and prudery. Needless to say, women found their confinement within the domestic circle to be like a prison, and the protectiveness Dew describes with such glee was restrictive, posing a real problem concerning the use of one s time. What were women to do? Dew, as an educator, suggests that studies could be pursued, but only to cultivate ...all those feminine graces and thus reinforce the very culture women presumably wished to escape! No wonder the first universities for women, which started in the 1830s, were not widely attended. Especially with attitudes like that expressed by a prominent physician in 1870: Why destroy a good housewife by making an ordinary grammarian? It must be noted that the values and ideas expressed here, are distinctive of an urban, WASP, middle class ideology. In contrast, we see that the Western states had a completely different view of women. They were not settled yet in the Victorian age, and women had to work just as much as men, both on the land and inside the house, there was in many ways more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They also set out for the admission of the territory to be in the Union and on equal footing with the original states. By 1819, Congress was considering allowing legislation. This would authorize Missouri to frame a constitution for the state. Missouri wanted admission from the Union and the Northern states opposed it. They felt as if the Southern states that were slaveholding had too much power already. Also, the Constitution allowed states to count each slave as three fifths of a person. They determined population with these numbers which raised the amount of Congressional representatives the state could have. Thus, the South had an advantage in Congress. After the first petition was applied, a debate occurred over the government s right to restrict slavery. Since popular support in northern states for the restriction of slavery remained high, northern politicians had strong incentives to oppose the admission of any new states with slavery (Forbes, 2007).
