The Matter Of Whiteness By Richard Dyer Essay
Epiphany Samuels
Final
#1
The last line in the introductory chapter of The Matter of Whiteness written by Richard Dyer states
Thus it is that the paradoxes and instabilities of whiteness also constitute its flexibility and
productivity, in short, its representational power boils down to the unusual nature (some
contradictory) that makes white people who they are and what they do allows. This unusualness
allows for white people to be free (of labels, of master etc.) and thus maintain power. A quote my
argument enhances Switzerland north of Germany and Scotland (1987: 209). Such places had a
number of virtues the clarity and cleanliness of the air the rigor demanded by the cold the
Enterprise required by the harness of the terrain and climate the sublime Soul elevating beauty of

discipline and spiritual evolution and even the white body
This quote creates the idea that being white is being made perfectly by God like a Snowy
Mountain (21) even made perfectly in his image. These virtues that are being spoken about in the
idea of a white character energy, enterprise, discipline, spiritual evolution these are words and
phrases that coincide with godliness. I will use two as an example, number one, If is said that God

The Migrant Worker Lifestyle Can Be Largely Explained As A...
The migrant worker lifestyle can be largely explained as a subculture. These people have their
own values and behaviors that distinguish themselves from the average American. The migrant
workers work for little pay, and believe that hard work will pay off for them. They travel north
and south and across the United States following the harvests of different crops so they can
work and get paid. The one thing that sets this apart from the larger culture is that they are not
following around the easiest or the highest paying work. They are following some of the hardest
and lowest paying work that can be found. This is what sets their values and behaviors apart
from the rest of the United States. These people live and grow up in a completely different world
than the average American child. They start working at in their preteen years and do not stop
working until their bodies won t let them anymore. The children do not get forced into labor that
early although many are. They choose to do it on their own because they have a desire to help
their family out. This is not common among the average American household. In fact, most of the
country would rise in an uproar if white children were found to be doing this sort of work, but it
seems an exception has been made for these ones. The lifestyle that these people live is very
different from the one the average American lives which makes their lifestyle a subculture inside
our larger American culture. Their experiences in life give

I d like to get more specific and discuss mental illnesses in schools. Justification/Why should we

religions, mental illnesses were thought to be a punishment or a demonic possession. Currently,
the taboo has not gone away and people are still suffering. More often times than not, people are
underdiagnosed, dismissed, or the stigma creates too much societal pressure to say anything.

Vision Of An Ideal World

What is an ideal world
An ideal world is a widely discussed topic among religions and other people in general. Some
believe that there really is an ideal world waiting for us. And others just think that those kinds of
thoughts about an ideal world are just out right crazy. The whole point of an ideal world is to
achieve peace and perfection on earth or after death. This world is a good happy place for everyone
to live. Just showing it would be a wonderful place to live in, which is why many religions and
people believe in it. Perfection is very hard to achieve this is why some people are sceptical about
an ideal world actually existing. Now whatever side you are on I am going to discuss what an ideal
world really is and the beliefs about it. By clearing this up I hope to help others decided whether
there really is an ideal world or if it s just a myth.
When describing an ideal world everyone has their own thoughts on what is going on and what it
looks like. Your ideal world depends on your thoughts and what you believe is perfect or right.
According to the website CareerRide.com in the article What is your vision of an ideal world? an
ideal world is a mix of multiple things that come together as one to work in harmony. They said
these things are equality, rebuild, education, no religion, no terrorism, harm free, and stress free .

This night calls to me for something is amiss in the air. I felt the subtle shift upon my rising and
now I ready myself to seek it out. Going to my weapons room selecting what I will need for the
night, the wariness in me grows. It feels as if there is something in the night seeking... but for
what or for whom...this is unclear. Adorning my weapons I make my way to the entrance,
scanning the area as I go. Getting ready to emerge into the night I suddenly feel it... the evil
whispering on the wind, the sudden sense of wrongness all around. Once outside, off in the
distance, the trees begin to part and the ground begins to blacken from evil s touch. Quickly

The Tv Show How I Met Your Mother Essay
In the TV show How I Met Your Mother, Robin Scherbatsky is a 30 year old woman that does
not portray the typical lady on most situational comedies. Being strong headed and loud
mouthed, Robin is continuously breaking gender roles by working her way up the business
world, not wanting to be a mom, and definitely not being weak or fragile. However, the problem
in society is that most women aren t as bold as Robin. Most women don t have the job security
or ability to be audacious to stand up to their boss or even just saying a powerful statement.
Society is faced with a question of can women be as successful as men in the workplace? Women
are unable to thrive in the workplace because they re expected by society to be submissive and
servile. Society is changing how women are raised, and not for the better. People often genderize
babies from the moment they are born. Right from birth, hospitals make it a point to identify the
genderof a baby by wrapping the newborn in either a blue blanket for a boy or a pink blanket for
a girl. This is because society assumes that just because someone is female, they would like the
color pink. Society is pushing parents to identify children based on gender early on, which also is
the beginning of how gender roles from. For example in the article Learning to be Gendered,
Penelope Eckert looks at the role that the gender of a baby has on the parents and how the parents
in return treat the child differently. In an experiment conducted in the

Facing The Loss Of A Loved One And The Grieving Process
Facing the Loss of a Loved One and the Grieving Process
Introduction
From the moment we come in this world grief becomes an inevitable part of our lives. We grief
for various reasons, the loss of loved ones, diagnosis of a terminal illness, loss of a job,
relationships, property among other things we deem important to us.
Medicinenet.com defines grief as the normal reaction to a loss. Emotional reactions of grief can
include anger, guilt, anxiety, sadness, and despair, while physical reactions can include sleeping
problems, changes in appetite, physical problems, and or illness.
While grieving is a natural emotional reaction to loss, grief can be functional or dysfunctional.
During the grieving process the intense pain of the loss gradually fades and allows the person to
begin to heal and return to his or her regular life. This process may take a few months, this
however, is normal and is considered uncomplicated or functional grief. Complicated grief or
dysfunctional happens when the individual experiences the pain and intense sadness for a prolong
period of time, this usually results in the individual s inability to function. This may also manifest
itself in actual physical symptoms.
Case Study

unusual for the normally rambunctious child, her parents accredited it to being winter

Abolish Exclusionary Rule
I am arguing in favor to abolish the exclusionary rule, as opposed to the alternative, which is to
continue to believe that the exclusionary rule is part of people s Constitutional right to protect
against illegally obtained evidence in a criminal trial that allows criminals to go free. For those
who are not familiar with the exclusionary rule, the exclusionary is a very debatable topic in the
United Statesand Supreme Courts. The supposed purpose of the exclusionary rule is under the
constitutional law that evidence illegally obtained will be inadmissible in criminal trials. Most
people argue that the abolishment of the exclusionary rule allows citizens to be deprived of life,
liberty, or property and it would not uphold people s Constitutional

Utilitarianism In Beowulf
The movie Beowulf can be viewed in many different lights satirical, sad, beautiful, and some
may even dare to say, complete garbage. Renowned, American film critic, Roger Ebert wrote a
comical review for the movie and Marsha Sinkevich wrote a pointed response to his viewpoint.
Ebert believes the movie adaptation of the poem is strictly satirical, ment for laughter, and should
be taken for nothing else but pure enjoyment. Sinkevich wrote a response to to Ebert s review
stating that she believed the movie was, storytelling at its best. Personally, I agree more with Ebert.
I don t think the film did any justice to the epic poem, Beowulf, and should be seen as a comedy. In
Robert Ebert s review he writes, When Beowulf slays Grendel, the hero immediately strips naked,
because if Grendel wears no clothes, then he won t...which leads to a great deal of
Austinpowerism. This deviates from the actual poem in a mediocre attempt to add humor. In
reality, Beowulf simply fought Grendel without weapons he was fully clothed, and protected in a
blanket of silver armour. If the film showed the battle as it actually occurred in the epic poem, I
would have found it much more enjoyable and I assume others, including Ebert, would have too....

For example, Marsha Sinkevich replied to Ebert s review saying, I found the film moving,
dynamic, and even with the blood and guts, very poetic and sad. The only truth in her statement
is that the movie is sad, viewers watch Hrothgar plumet to his suicidal death; an event which did
not occur in the original poem. However, since this scene does not follow the actual events of
Beowulf, I feel a false sense of sadness is created. All in all, the movie deviates so much from the
original poem that it becomes dreadful to watch, especially if the viewer appreciates the actual

Tevye s Fiddler On The Roof
The definition of a fiddler is as follows: a person who plays the violin, especially one who plays
folk music. However, in the play Fiddler on the Roof , the word fiddler has so much more
meaning. It means tradition, balance, and it is also a representation of the people of Anatevka.
The fiddler in the play shows up fairly often. And every time it adds meaning to the play. At the
very beginning, Tevye tells us that the fiddler is a representation of the people of Anatevka: But
in our little village of Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to
scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2) And it is completely true.
Throughout the book it is evident that Tevye especially struggles to keep his balance while he tries
to keep... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking of balance, that s the other thing that the fiddler represents. When Tevye comes back
from the bar, and after speaking to the constable (Pg. 54), the fiddler comes into the scene and
...he circles Tevye, and they dance off together. (Pg. 54). In the book, that s all it says. However,
in the movie you can see the fiddler beckoning Tevye and they begin to dance off together, but
the music slowly begins to spin out of control as the fiddler dances off the stage with Tevye and
the next scene begins. This indicates that the story is going to spin out of control. So that is how
the fiddler represents balance, because the music spinning out of control represents them losing
balance. The music that the fiddler plays represents their balance. Which ties into the first quote I
mentioned, where Tevye explains that each person in Anatevka is a fiddler on the roof trying to
scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2.) So, what the music sounds
like is how balanced they are. If they are beginning to fall off the roof, the music gets more intense
because the fiddler is

Wto Is The Acronym Of World Trade Organization
WTO is the acronym of World Trade Organization that was established in January 1995.
According to the World Trade Agreement, the objectives of the WTO are to: Increase standards
of living for its members Attainment of full employment The growth of real income and effective
demands The expansion of production of and trade in goods and services. Although these are
some of the objectives, there are some limitations to these objectives, which makes it difficult for
some participating countries, while making things better for some countries. There are two ways a
in which a country can become a member of the WTO. 1.Original membership Under Article XI of
the WTO agreement, allowed contracting parties who were a member of GATT 1947 to join the
WTO by accepting the terms and conditions set by the WTO agreements and the Multilateral Trade
Agreements (MTA). The second way of becoming a member of WTO is not that simple. There is a
process in which applying countries must follow. This is through accession as set out in Article XII
of the WTO agreement. This agreement states most importantly that A)Any state or separate
custom territory possessing autonomy in the conduct of its external commercial relations and the
other matters provided for in this agreement and the multilateral trade agreement may accede to this
agreement on the terms to be agreed between it and the WTO . B)Decision on accession shall be

Gender Stereotypes In Aladdin
The aim of this essay is to investigate the race, sexuality and gender stereotyping that is expressed
through the Disney film Aladdin and how these elements affect the characters. These elements will
be represented within the characters personality and back story which is then visually represented
in the characters design.
In this Disney film there is a great importance to know the history in the world during the time that
this film was established. The history during 1991 is shown through the characters. The filmmakers
established Aladdin in 1991 Gulf War that lasted six months. Conflict was present between Iraq and
34 countries in the U.N. inclusive of the United States, trying to recover order to Kuwait.

Jasmine steals an apple for a penniless boy, the shop vendor then grabs her hand threatening to cut it

Not only do the stereotypes expressed through the characters and the play a vital role, but the
representation through body structure, style and design help create and grant these characters to be
more unique and individualistic. This allows them to contrast with other background characters and
the environment in which they live.
The way in which Disney films help maintain a respectable name for the hero is through justifying
the characters negative actions. This is present in Aladdin as he is portrayed to be a thief as he
steals a loaf of bread, just before he was about to eat the bread he then sees two children scratching
through trash to feed themselves. Aladdin in turn, gives the children the bread therefore justifying
his actions of thievery. The reasoning behind his actions help to reduce his Arabic decent and the

Description Of A Visit To Visit A Museum
Last time I went to the Art Institute of Chicago. I had a wonderful experience there. However,
final is coming. I have no time to go outside to visit some famous museums. I choose museums
online tour to satisfy my desire. Louvre museum is my dream museum. I choose Louvre as my

line 1 and 7. The Louvre is open every day (except Tuesday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. the price of the
ticket is €15. You can get free tickets if you are teachers of arts. I think the Louvre is crowded
because it s the world s most visited museum.
The Louvre has several missions, it stated in its website. We can simply divide the missions into
four parts.
Firstly, we know that the Louvre is a royal palace, the Louvre has embraced the history of France
for eight centuries. It is a universal museum from 1793. The Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of
Samothrace, and the Venus de Milo are all in the Louvre. It defines itself as a universal museum.
Secondly, the Louvre is universal both in wealth of its collections and the diversity of its
visitors. There are lots of visitors from all over the world. From its data in 2012, we know that 69%
visitors are overseas, there are 15% American visitors, 7% Chinese visitors and 6% visitors from

Andy Warhol Influence
Andy Warhol is considered to be one of the most impactful artists to work in the later
half of the 20th century. His work challenged the institution of art in so many ways, from the
integration of popular culture iconography to his method of production in his Factory ; Warhol
confronted what made art art , and redefined it throughout the span of his career. Personally,
Warhol was obsessed with celebrityand mass reproduction of commodities of any kind. This
infatuation greatly influenced the way he worked, by using screen print, and appropriating
images from pop culture of the 60 s, he was able to gain the infamy he so adored. The infamous

notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who
influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the
institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like Fountain (1917) and Etant
donnes (1946 66). These works, unlike Warhol s, had meaning and confronted topics like
voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp,
however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the
factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in
the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the artist s hand
within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either
way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern
celebrity faces.

Paying Students For Good Grades
In schools students have low grades and other issues. One of those issues is that they don t have
enough motivation to learn and do their work. Their attendance is poor, they miss a great portion
and that doesn t allow them to learn what needs to be learned. Some schools have a low ranking
and a low percentage of student success. In order to fix the issue, some schools have created a
program called money for grades. The program is about the school paying their students for earning
excellent grades. However, paying students for excellent grades can result in negative
consequences. Implementing the program does not allow the students to really learn, it stresses

Essay on Negro Spirituals
Negro Spirituals
Spirituals, a religious folk song of American origin, particularly associated with African American
Protestants of the southern United States. The African American spiritual, characterized by
syncopation, polyrhythmic structure, and the pentatonic scale of five whole tones, is, above all, a
deeply emotional song. Spirituals are really the most characteristic product of the race genius as yet
in America. But the very elements which make them uniquely expressive of the Negro make them
at the same time deeply representative of the soil that produced them. Spirituals were long thought
to be the only original folk music of the United States, and research into its origin centered mainly
on the nature and extent of its African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While work songs dealt only with their daily life, spirituals were inspired by the message of Jesus
Christ and his Good News (Gospel) of the Bible, You can be saved . They are different from hymns
and psalms, because they were a way of sharing the hard condition of being a slave. Many slaves in
town and in plantations tried to run to a free country , that they called my home or Sweet Canaan,
the Promised Land . This country was on the Northern side of Ohio River, that they called Jordan .
Some negro spirituals refer to the Underground Railroad, an organization for helping slaves to run
away.
The Spirituals are spiritual. Conscious artistry and popular conception alike should never rob them
of this heritage, untrue to their tradition and to the folk genius to give them another tone. That they
are vulnerable of both crude and refined secularization is no excuse. Even though their own makers
worked them up from the quot;shout quot; and the rhythmic elements of the sensuous dance, in
their finished form and basic emotional effect all of these elements were completely sublimated in
the sincere intensities of religious seriousness. To call them Spirituals and treat them otherwise is a
travesty. Emotionally, African slave songs were far from simple. They are not only spread over the
whole length of human moods, with the traditional religious overtone skillfully insinuated in each

What Does Forgetting A Memory Represent
Possible thesis: Current situations are a result of the past, but the true events of the past are subject
to distortion from time and human manipulation.
Historical Background
Setting: Macondo
Founded by Jose Arcadio Buendia, the town of Macondo experiences growth and decay throughout
the course of the novel. Initially the world untouched by humanity at large and was so recent [that]
many things lacked names (Marquez 1). This state purity quickly disappears as ripples of political
unrest begin to affect Macondo, inciting a revolution. The town s isolated nature makes it fall
victim to the imperialistic hegemony of outsiders (Gray). Macondo acts as symbol for much of the
political and economic unrest that Latin American countries experienced in the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries.
Setting: Ayemenem
It s set in twentieth century Kerala region of India. This area still contains a strong Marxist
sentiment due to Chinese Communist influences; this contributes to political uncertainty, taking the
forms of protests and banners. Kerala also contains a larger Christian population than many other
regions, leading to complex interaction between those of other faiths.

First, she started the lesson by writing on the blackboard parts del dia , el matГ , la tarda and la nit
. In order to explain the meaning of such words she showed the gesture of waking up and then she
turned on and off the light of the room twice. The teacher continued to explain the meaning of the
words with drawings on the blackboard: a sun next to the word sol , a star next to the word estrella ,
a moon next to the word lluna and a cloud next to the word nГєvols . Second, she opened a book
and read the first two lines. To explain the meaning of what was just read she moved around the
classroom and illustrated verbs trough actions. For example, to explain the word perdre (to lose)
she acted as she was looking for something around the room. Next she asked the students, again in
the target language, to read aloud a couple of sentences one by one. After each student read the
teacher used gestures and pictures to explain what was written in the text. In order to explain the
word paГs she made an example in Catalan using students personal factors: Italia es un paГs .
While reading the book she showed images that represented what was happening in the story; each
line had a different image that helped with

Autistic Child Training
In order for a parent training session to be successful, there are many essential elements that should
be considered. The parents are the most important members to include to be a part of an ABA

they are: the individual training format and the group training format. After reading the notes, I

Ronald Reagan s Economic Policies
Although he was a generally controversial president, Ronald Reagan s policy decisions to
stimulate economic prosperity, known as Reaganomics, were legitimately beneficial to the
United States of America. First, in order to substantiate the success of Reagan s economic policy
decisions one must first grasp the varying levels of importance for each aspect of his plan. As
Reagan s policies were substantial decisions that defined his presidency and alienated an entire
population of more economically liberal people, it makes sense that an understanding of his
emphasis on certain decisions would lead to a more persuasive argument. Next, the negation of
well formed and logical criticisms of Reagan s economic policies also lend to the support of their
benefits and success. Acknowledging a sensible counterargument and addressing specific points of
critical analysis serves to further enhance the argument for the success of Reagan s decisions.
Furthermore, strong economic growth and the curbing of federal domestic power reinforce the
accomplishments of Reaganomics. Though the U.S. did see economic growth, Reaganomics was not
purely an economic plan, as cuts in government power, not including the military, benefitted the
average American citizen. Moreover, Ronald Reagans economic decisions regarding Soviet foreign
policywere also extremely beneficial to the United States. The tough decisions to further the
national deficit proved a worthy sacrifice in pressuring the collapse

Edna s Search For Identity In The Awakening
The Awakening
Theme:
Do not give into the pressures of society and search for your own identity
Edna lives in a society that expects women to only take care of children and be an obedient wife.
However, Edna feels trapped and does not want to be only limited to being a good wife. One day,
she meets a young man named Robert who helps Edna awaken and she gradually begins to want to
search for her own identity. Therefore, she has sexual awakenings with Alcee, so she can try to
figure out herself. In addition, Edna has another awakening due to her time with Adele and she tries
to find her identity by expressing herself through art in the Pigeon House.
Being an individual against society leads to rejection, loneliness, and isolation.
Edna Pontellier was the only woman in the Grand Isle to try to go against the rules of society
which was to be an obedient. She desired to find her individuality and become independent due to
feeling trapped by just being a wife every day. Therefore, she goes through sexual awakenings

A Priority Based Compromise Fuzzy Goal Programming...
A Priority based Compromise Fuzzy Goal Programming Approach for Channel Allocation Problem
Abstract
Some companies produce and sell all of their own products through their own internal channels and
some use multiple external channels to distribute goods to consumers. Many authors have
presented mathematical model for channel allocation problem. Tsai et al (2008) presented a mixed
integer fuzzy goal programming model for channel allocation problem considering three different
fuzzy goals. In this paper we use the weighted root power mean method of aggregation for
obtaining a priority based solution of channel allocation problem where preferences are defined in
terms of weights.
Keywords: Channel Allocation problem, Compromise fuzzy goal programming, multiobjective
optimization, weighted goal programming.
1.Introduction
Firms distribute their product through multiple distribution channels which include direct and
indirect channels. The channel in which distribution function is grouped by a supplier and one or
more of intermediaries, is known as an indirect channel. However, a direct channel distributes
products from producers to the users directly without introducing any intermediaries. Many reasons
can be presented for the firms to adopt multiple channel strategy because advances in information
and manufacturing technology have encouraged multiple channels. However, multiple channels for
distribution of the products in the market arise many challenges and one of them is the

Gypsy Rose Lee Research Paper
Gypsy Rose Lee will always be remembered through the musical hit Gypsy, composed by
Stephen Sondheim and Jule Styne. The most important character which carries the musical all
the way to the end is Gypsy s mother Mama Rose. The musical has come back to Broadway
many times in different forms Today s most recent version of Gypsy is the 2008 musical
featuring Patti Lu Pone as Mama Rose. Patti blows most of the past performers out of the water.
But Ethel Merman will always be remembered as the original Mama Rose. Ethel Merman portrays
Mama Rose as a tough and energetic mother who wants nothing more for her daughters than fame
on the big stage. My second favorite is Bette Midler s performance in 1993, who has such a strong

Trust In Julius Caesar Essay
I m not entirely sure who has been able to guess this minor fact about me, although I think it may
be only slightly obvious. I have serious trust issues. Where they stem from one could only guess. It
could be from humanity s uncanny ability to show a magnificent display of its love for betrayal
and watching those around me find their role of Julius Caesar. In my long and (quite frankly)
emotionally disappointing career as a student, I have watched friends psychologically destroy and
humiliate each other time and time again. Frequently, people are destroyed by the information they
provide to others while under the illusion of trust. I find that the simplest solution to never getting

As safe as my closed off character keeps me, I sometimes wonder if I should be so okay with

It might just be in my head, but anyone reading this piece (or really anything I write) might be

Igor Stravinsky Nationalism
Nationalism in music refers to a musical movement originating in the 19th century. It served as a
reaction to German music which dominated the musical scene at the time. It focused particularly
on folk traditions of the composer s national heritage, as well as subjects of national life and
history. It also allowed composers such as Stravinsky to form a greater presence in the musical
scene. (Curran 2016 Nationalism in Music) The early music of Igor Stravinsky often shows
nationalistic traits that reflect his Russian upbringing and influences. In his later compositions he
moves beyond this, keeping continuity through a smooth transition in style from a Russian style of
writing to a neoclassical style. (Szabo 2011, p. 2). This can be seen by... Show more content on

The first is the Russian period which extends to the late 1910s. His works in this period show
nationalist traits (as evident by the name) and include works such as L oiseau de feu (The
Firebird) (1910), Petrushka (1911) and Le sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring) (1913).
Second is the neoclassical period which starts in the early 1920s and ends in the early 1950s. This
period sees Stravinsky move beyond nationalism in his music and includes works such as Octet for
Wind Instruments (1923), Oedipus Rex (1927) and Symphony in C (1940). The third and final
period of Stravinsky s works is the serialism period and includes works such as Canticum Sacrum
(1955), Agon (1957) and Requiem Canticles (1966) (Griffiths; Szabo 2011; Taruskin White;
Walsh). The transition between the Russian and neoclassical period is an important time as it
highlights shifts in Stravinsky s compositional techniques and interests. Examples of the
transitional works of Stravinsky include Les Noces (The Wedding) (1917), Histoire du Soldat
(The Soldier s Tale) (1918) and Pulcinella (1920) (Szabo 2011, p. 1). While all periods of
Stravinsky s works have been mentioned, the serial period shall not be discussed in this essay as it

Radioactive Fission Research Paper
In late December in 1938, a chemist going by the name of Otto Hahn discovered radioactive
fission between the element Uranium. He had started off by causing impact between it and causing
a Uranium atom to split into two. When that happened it was known as a process called fission, a
topic known little about in 1930 s. When a radioactive element such as Uraniumenters the process
of fission it splits the atom causing a specified amount of energy to foil out. Just the split of one
atom during their experiment caused an entire grain of sand to jump in the air. Imagine what 50

Steve Mcqueen Trauma
Outsider Perspectives Into Trauma: Steve McQueen s Hunger (2008) The concept of trauma cinema
is problematic. There are issues which arise concerning the exploitation and misrepresentation of
trauma narratives. As a result, the notion of a filmmaker operating from a position outside of
trauma having any insight into trauma is contentious. The nature of trauma is such that it makes it
so that this is essentially an impossible task an outsider perspective being incapable of engaging in
trauma cinema. This is the view which I seek to challenge. I will argue instead that it is an outsider
perspective which is uniquely positioned to trauma in such a way that it is maximally effective

I will argue instead that an outsider perspective is in fact an asset in trauma cinema, especially in
the case of a collective trauma. This is because in the case of a collective trauma, like national
conflict, there are lines of allegiances drawn and narratives which subsequently conform to these.
In other words, renarrativisation tends to affirm existing mythologies where trauma cinema
requires the rupturing of mythologies . (Beckett, 2001; 47) How this is facilitated can be in the
form of an outsider perspective, this which is able to move beyond the immediate scar tissue
(Beckett, 2001; 47), having been unencumbered by loyalties to a particular narrative or political
sympathy. An outsider perspective can reveal new perspectives this being the aim of trauma
cinema. In this way an outsider perspective can be an asset, it being able to engage in multiples
sides to a conflict, with disregard to politicised narratives which hinder from progress. Through this
type of cinematic experience, a traumatised individual is allowed to critically work through an
experience of trauma, this process facilitated by the insight of the filmmaker who operates from a
position without from the situation of

The Impact of Lowering the Drinking Age on State...
The legal drinking age in the United States will always be a point of contention. No one can
settle upon a drinking age that everyone is in agreement with; should it be 18 or 21? Ages 18
and 21 are the most popular options, yet neither one has 100% of the vote. With the current legal
drinking age in America standing at 21, meaning that people under the age of 21 cannot purchase
or consume alcoholic food or beverages, there is the question of whether or not to lower it to 18
or 19 years old. This paper will argue that the drinking age should be lowered, and examine its
impact on State University. Almost everyone has an opinion on what the drinking age should be.
Some people believe that it should stay at 21. However, others argue... Show more content on

The answer to these questions would greatly impact the future of campuses nationwide. The
State University campus is dry, meaning there is neither alcohol nor paraphernalia allowed on
the campus at any time regardless of age. In the same city, however, Christian Brothers
University is a wet campus that allows all students 21 and older to have alcohol in their dorms
and around campus. A major question that should be considered is how schools such as these two
would be affected in their policies if the drinking age were lowered. One side to this debate is that
the legal drinking age should be lowered from 21 to around 18 or 19 years old, and that young
adults should be allowed to drink in controlled environments. This idea is presented by Ruth Engs,
a professor of Applied Sciences at Indiana University. She states that environments such as taverns,
pubs, restaurants and official university functions can be considered to be controlled
environments. In these situations responsible drinking could be taught through role modeling and
educational programs. Mature and sensible drinking behavior would be expected (Engs). In her
article, Engs uses phrases such as forbidden fruit, and a badge of rebellion against authority to
describe how teens view drinking. In her opinion, if the drinking age were to be lowered, young
adults would no longer feel the pressure to drink in order to be cool.

How St Clare Of Assisi Changed Society And The Catholic...
Good morning Mr Campbell and class today I will be talking about how St Clare of a Assisi is a
radical reformer and how she changed society and the Catholic Church
Biography
Chiara Offreduccio born on July 16, 1194 Assisi, Italy. St Clare of Assisi being her name now due
to her being canonized in 1255, was born into a wealthy family that own a house on the top of the
hill in Assisi. Clare being the eldest sister she followed by example by the teaching of Jesus. We
believe that when Clare was little she would have be able to hear and see the mass from her room
as she not able to go to mass therefore she is called the patron saint of television. On palm Sunday
1212 St Clare of Assisi ran to Rome with St Francis Xavier to preach the word of the Lord and the
Order of Poor Ladies, a group of poor women that dedicated their life to God and wanted to be
recognised to the Catholic Church. St Clare of Assisi died August 11 1253, feast day on August 11

St Clare of Assisi is called a radical reformer, therefore her actions and the challenges that she has
faced in her life has had a impact to society and the Catholic Church. Back then society was very
sexist. For example women were not allowed to enter events or do anything without permission
from the husband, St Clare of Assisi believed that all people should be allowed in the Catholic
Church therefore she went off to Rome and created the Order of Poor Ladies. Many people
believed that women were supposed to stay and home and do household jobs and this made a
drastic turn for society and the Catholic Church. One of the hardest hurdles that she had to
overcome was changing the public perception on the role of women in society. Fortunately she
had St Francis Xavier on her side and soon enough people agreed and this lead to one of the
biggest changes in the Catholic

The Type Of A Vector
A vector is a molecule of DNA used as a vehicle to carry foreign DNA to be expressed or
replicated within cells, including viruses and plasmids. Viruses are obligate intracellular
parasites that can only replicate inside a host cell, which are composed of nucleic acids enclosed
by a protein coat called a capsid (Wessner, D. R. 2010). For example, a viral vector is commonly
used to transfer genetic material into a cell. Vectors were discovered and developed to synthesis
and produce proteins for therapeutic use in humans, such as insulin secretion in diabetic patients.

For instance, a technique known as gene therapy is the transfer of genes into a patient s cell as a
drug to treat or prevent a disease. Gene therapy can include replacing a mutated gene, removing a
gene or the addition of a new gene (Hulot et al, 2016). A gene must be transferred from one
plasmid to another in order to give that organism a selective advantage e.g. antibiotic resistance.
However, Bacteria have been industrialized that are resistant to antibiotics such as penicillin
which is a result of the misuse of antibiotics. Resistance arises as changes or mutations within the
bacteria s genes develop, which help bacteria grow that are resistant to antibiotics and therefore
have an advantage. From researching journals, I found that Pseudomonas Aeruginosa resistance
poses threats to human and animal health as the body no longer has the defences to protect
against the bacteria. Altogether 77 isolates were tested and out of 77, 13 where negative for the
presence of class 2 integrase gene (Olga et al, 2016). Only the most beneficial bacteria are
selected to carry plasmids and so natural section is an important factor so that only those of the
greatest advantage are selected. There are various different types of plasmids some of which
include F plasmids for expression of the sex pilli, resistant plasmid that provides resistance against
antibiotics or poisons, col plasmid which contain proteins that kill or

The Film The Princess Bride
The film The Princess Bride can be associated with many different genres. The story expresses
many different genre elements, such as romance, action, and a comedy. Even though the movie
shows all of these characteristics, I believe the movie should be mainly characterized as a
fairytale. The film shares many characteristics with fairytale and fantasy movies, which I will list
and discuss. I will be taking a closer look at the movie, and show how it compares to other fantasy
and fairytale movies.
One of the most obvious example of the movie being the fairy tale, is the involvement of royalty in
the story. One of the main characters in the story, is Buttercup, who is a princess. Buttercup is a
princess all the way through the film, and almost becomes a queen. Another main character is
Prince Humperdinck, who is the prince of florin, the son of the king. Prince Humperdinck and
Buttercup are stereotypical fairy tale characters. Humperdinck is the main antagonist of the story, ...

The main way magic is invoked is with Miracle Max, who used to work for the King. When
presented with the almost dead Westley, he brings him back from the point of death using magic.
This is one of the only times magic is used in the story. There are some other magic elements such
as giants, and witches.
The film s ending contains one that is familiar to many fairy tales. In the final battle, everyone
collides and battles it out. Indigo fights the man who killed his father in a long duel, and eventually
comes out victorious. Buttercup and Westley meet Prince Humperdinck in the castle, and Westley
defeats him. After Westley s victory, him and Buttercup decide to let Humperdinck go. After the
battle in the castle, the main conflicts in the story are solved. After the battle ends, they all meet up
and ride into the sunset. This ending is alike to fairy tales in numerous ways.

Masterpieces Always Come With Good Reasons And Fantastic
Masterpieces always come with good reasons and fantastic story telling. On one hand, a good
reason or a logic progress with facts makes a work more convincing; on the other hand, those
fantacies and make ups show a writer s reflection on facts and reasons he or she received, and are
extensions of those facts and reasons, rendering the work interesting and even more convincing. In
three famous and classic works, On Liberty, Hard Times, and The Communist Manifesto, we can see
how writers combine facts with fictions and compose excellent works.

He even chooses such a noble man, to show that we, who do not possess so much wisdom and

Furthermore, Mill writes that It is a bitter thought, how different a thing the Christianity of the
world might have been, if the Chritian faith had been adopted as the religion of the empire under
the auspices of Marcus Aurelius instead of those of Constantine (On Liberty, John Stuart Mill,
Page.28). Here, Mill makes up a different outcome with the historical fact, that the noble emperor
did not persecute Christianity but supported it. Undoubtly, Mill wants to demonstrate that
Christianity could develop better under the support of Marcus Aurelius with his wisdom and virtue

In conclusion, Mill, from two aspects, fact and fiction, stresses his arguement and makes his
arguements more convincing and impressive to readers.

Since the 1940s, motorization has increased rapidly around the world, particularly private vehicles.
The trend has created both economic and individual benefits. The development resulted in the
prosperity of the metropolis, while regional areas declined steeply in scale. In Japan, the least

Although Japan s target was a reduction of 6% from 1990 levels by the year 2012, it might be

A heated debate about the influence on car businesses has become another argument against the

II and taken the major role in the economy (University of Tokyo, 2004), would lose the power
and might be difficult to compete with foreign companies. On the positive side, it has been
asserted that the changes could be a large number of opportunities for the Japanese motor vehicle
industry because the new technologies, such as electric cars and hybrid ones, could be developed
(Nakamura,2010). These cars could provide not only cheaper charging costs and repairing fees for
drivers but also reductions in air

Sexism In The Wild
Even when the founding fathers began to rise up, there was still a common stereotype of women
being weak and powerless. Described in her letter, Abigail Adams says the truth about men back
then that could be applied to the average common man today. I desire you would Remember the
Ladies, [...]. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. (Kylene G. Beers
111). Even back then women had troubles fitting in with the tyrants that men are, there has been
little change in the status quo. This means there must be a call for change, to get rid of sexism.
Sexism is everywhere, even in online communities for video games. League of Legends, a fast
paced real time strategy game published by Riot Games, upholds the title of one

Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism Essay
Vaccines have been used to prevent diseases for centuries, and have saved countless lives of
children and adults. The smallpox vaccine was invented as early as 1796, and since then the use
of vaccines has continued to protect us from countless life threatening diseases such as polio,
measles, and pertussis. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2010) assures that vaccines
are extensively tested by scientist to make sure they are effective and safe, and must receive the
approval of the Food and Drug Administration before being used. Perhaps the greatest success story
in public health is the reduction of infectious diseases due to the use of vaccines (CDC, 2010).
Routine immunization has eliminated smallpox from the globe and... Show more content on

This led to the support of various unproven vaccine autism theories by parents in both the UK and
America. After findings of intestinal disease in children with autism, Wakefield claimed that
separating the MMR into three different vaccinations would be safer. Since then, Wakefield s
research has been discredited, he was charged with serious professional misconduct by the General
Medical Council for violating several ethical practices, and he was investigated for failing to
disclose conflict of interest a pending patent on a rival measles vaccine (Gross, 2009). Although
false, many still believe wholeheartedly that vaccines are harmful.
Wakefield s Study
In the 1998 article in the Lancet, Wakefield studied 12 children who, after a period of apparent
normality, lost acquired skills, including communication (Wakefield, Murch, Anthony, Linnell,
Casson, Malik, Berelowitz, Dhillon, Thomson, Harvey, Valentine, Davies, Walker Smith,1998). All
12 children were reported to show behavioral symptoms after receiving the vaccination. After
receiving the vaccination, the features associated with exposure collectively included fever
/delirium, rash, self injury, repetitive behavior, loss of self help, convulsion, gaze avoidance,
diarrhea, disinterest, lack of play, vomiting, and recurrent viral pneumonia. In 8 of the 12 children,
the beginning of behavioral problems was linked to the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination by
either the parents or by the child s

The Doctrinal Cycle Of Federalism
Federalism is when states or provinces share power with a national government. The United States
government functions by applying the principles of federalism. The doctrinal cycle of federalism
is when the state gain power for a while and then the power is disbursed to the national government
for a while. The power is given back and forth between the states and the national government
creating a cycle of federalism. The ideology of the Supreme Court is an important factor for
determining what level of Congress will hold the power. A liberal Supreme Court is more likely
to let the national government hold more power, while a conservative court is more likely to let
the states hold more power. There are three types of federalism which are cooperative, dual, and
new. The ideology of the Supreme Court affects what type of federalism that the country will live
under.
Cooperative federalism is when all three levels of government collectively interact to solve
common problems. In cooperative federalism there is a strong national government and the
Supreme Court allowed Congress to grow and become more powerful. The court s ideology
during this time was more liberal, which impacts how the court will decide on cases that are
presented to them. The McCulloch v. Maryland case was about Congress creating The Second
Bank of the United States, in the state of Maryland. Maryland at the time passed legislation that
would impose a tax on the bank. James W. McCulloch, a cashier at the

North American Craton Research Papers
North American Craton The North American Craton, or the core of the North American continent,
makes up much of the interior of present day Canada and the United States. This area is home to
the earliest tectonic activity responsible for the creation of North America, dating back billions of
years ago. In the beginning, volcanic island chains, found near ancient oceanic plate subduction
zones, slowly formed and thickened into new continental crusts. Eventually these continents, due to
their size, became more buoyant than their surrounding ocean basins; thus, allowing them to begin
gradually growing outward over time with the addition of new material via subduction,
sedimentation, and continental collision. The center of the North American... Show more content on

The oldest sedimentary rocks found here were originally deposited when North America was still
located near the equator, beginning around ~350 million years ago. During this time, periods of
shallow sea flooding left various sands and muds across much of the craton, which eventually
formed into sandstone, limestone, and shale. The landscapes of the national parks on the platform
were later shaped by the interaction of these sedimentary layers with the environmental conditions
in which they became located. Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, for example, is the result of
groundwater slowly dissolving the ancient subsurface limestone, creating the largest cave system on
earth with over 346 miles of known passageways today. Similar formations can be seen in places
like the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Regions of this type are generally characterized as
karst topographies. There are also younger areas of the platform where erosion can be seen but,
more predominantly at the surface level, like Badlands National Park in South Dakota, for
example. The gradual uplift of the Rocky Mountains to the West led to the formation of several
sedimentary layers in this region, beginning around ~100 million years ago. Over time river and
wind processes have left the distinctive strata of silt and shale

Spectroscopy Research Paper
Astronomers can use the light given off by stars for many things. With the light given off by stars
they can see the distance that the star is located from earth. They can also use the light given off
by stars to see what that star is composed of. When something is so hot that it glows, for example
stars, it shows features that can help you decide what it is made of. This is because different things
give off a different spectrum of lightwhen they are burnt to the point that they glow. Each product
gives off a different spectrum, this can be compared to be almost like a fingerprint. Cool gases
will also absorb various wavelengths of light and produce a spectrum with dark lines at different
places. With this in effect, you may observe what the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Absorption lines are created when light from something hot like a star passes through a cooler gas,
cancelling out the emission lines the chemicals in the gas would normally create. When you look
at the spectrum of a star, for example, you can see absorption lines because the star s outer
atmosphere is cooler than the central part, explains Watson. in such an analysis of chemical
abundances, the wavelength of each line is treated as fixed. However, this is not true when the star
is moving towards us (the lines are observed at shorter wavelengths, or blueshifted, than those
measured in the laboratory) or moving away from us. If the spectrum of a star is red or blue
shifted, then you can use that to infer their velocities along the line of sight. During the first half of
the 19th century, scientists such as John Herschel, Fox Talbot, and Willam Swan studied the
spectra of different chemical elements in flames. Gradually, the idea that each element produces a
set of characteristic emission lines has become established. Each element has several prominent,
and many lesser, emission lines in a characteristic

Airborne Express Harvard Business case Essay
______________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary:
Airborne Express the current underdog in the express mail business has been able to compete with
market leaders due to innovation and optimization strategy. The company built on cutting cost and
emphasizing reliability now faces pressure from the leaders UPS and FedEx to change their pricing
strategy. This change from standard rate pricing to distance based pricing puts Airborne in a
dilemma in which they must choose to match the competition which will make them lose what sets
them apart in the market or stay with the current strategy. Changing will increase their flexibility
and could open them up to new consumers while staying the same ... Show more content on

Such new moves by both gorillas like companies may sweep the corners of the market described
by some industry analysts. For years, the industry set the prices without consideration of
distance, which means, a same sized letter from New York to New Jersey has the same cost as if
the letter is shipped to California from New York. In 1996, UPS officially moved to distance based
pricing, and Federal Express followed same action in 1997. There is no denying that what actions
Airborne take is significant affecting the development of the company, while facing this big change
in industry.
Section 2: The problem/Opportunity: Airborne Express has long differentiated itself in the
market by structuring itself as a big business only carrier. They have specialized in large unit
deliveries through metropolitan areas. Everything they do is aimed to optimize the delivery
process and slash cost where ever possible. However, Airborne is now faced with a huge
decision. They must decide whether to step away from their differentiation strategy to match the
new pricing tactics of the market UPS and FedEx or to continue the old norm of delivery pricing.
The new distance based pricing strategy threatens Airborne s consistent strategy to cut prices.
Clients will seek to ship packages at the lowest cost. The short distance deliveries will be ruled by
UPS and FedEx since they are the once who are

Qualitative Analysis Long Term Debt The advantage of a long term debt financing option, in
this case, is the attractive rate of interest Metropolitan Life is willing to offer. However, their
offer comes with some conditions: An upfront free of 200,000 common shares is required. In
terms of operations, the capital budget would not be able to exceed the forecasted budget. No
acquisitions could be made without the approval of Metropolitan Life. No change could be made
to the current compensation packages of the firm s executives until 50% of the debt was repaid.
Their debt equity ratio would be constrained to 1.20. They would not be able to raise any more debt
without the insurance company s approval. While the interest rate... Show more content on

However, if Granite were to offer an IPO, they would have to undergo a thorough process of
examining all financial records, operations by the investment bank who was willing to
underwrite the offer as well as the securities commission, responsible of examining every IPO.
The process would take around three to six months. As well, the company would have to issue an
additional six million shares to cover the $50 million investment required. The advantage of a
IPO is the ability to acquire the necessary funds easily, which is something to consider if in the
future the company would like to expand or had a project that needed indispensable funds than the
company had available right away. It seems that the option of IPO is the better fit for the company.
This type of financing would allow not giving up too much control. It would also require them to
act in the best interest of their shareholders. These shareholders would want to see the stock price
increase and make a better return on their investment. Therefore, if the company believes it can act
in such a way and make decisions that would attract future investors, the initial public offering
seems to be the best option for the company at the

The Greek and Roman Mythos Analysis
The greeks believed that chaos and peace go hand in hand for peace can only exist with the
presences of chaos and vice versa, like many myths it carries a violent beginning which relates to
human nature. The Roman religion was more practical and less poetical than the Greek religion.
Every Roman god had something to do, some useful duty to perform. The Greek and Roman
Gods worshipped by the two nations had similar roles and duties. However, their names were
different. The religion of the Romans differed in some aspects from that of the Greeks, so much
as it was basically a state religion, and It was more of a ritual and a ceremony. It included most of
the gods of the Greek Pantheon, but was more comprehensive. The gods of both religions possess
human qualities such as jealousy, betrayal, love, and peace overcoming ... Show more content on

The Greeks and the Romans were both willing to receive legends and tales from other nations,
and to incorporate them as well as they could with their own. Therefore in the mythology of the
Romans you usually find a Latin and a Greek name for one imagined divinity. so Zeus of the
Greeks, in Latin becomes pater a father. Jupiter Kronos of the Greeks is known as Vulcanus in
Latin. Areas of the Greeks is Mars, Poseidon of the Greeks is Neptunus, Aphrodite of the Greeks is
Venus. Interestingly enough The Romans found in Greek literature a god of fire and crafting called
Hephaistos, they transformed his name to their own old god Vulcanus, who had the same

The American General Election Cycle
With the American general election cycle in full swing, one of the fundamental issues in play is
the role of government. What is the place of Government? What should elected officials be
doing? Do they simply protect personal liberties, or do they also establish safeguards and
guidelines for various economic activities? Ask any two people and you ll likely receive two
different answers, so nuanced and complex is the issue. Policy can give incentives to business to
act a certain way both domestically and abroad. Tax incentives in one region may cause a corporate
to relocate (this happened to one of my favorite guitar manufacturers recently, as they moved
production from Canada to California!). A central bank s tweak in monetary policy to shift the cost
of lending could ultimately move interest rates for consumers looking to take out mortgages or
automobile loans. As we witnessed in 2008, the housing market is of international concern and a
large central bank wields enormous power. While we like to call the Western economy a free
market, there exists a multitude of government policies that impact the freedoms and movements of
the economy, for better or for worse. I will present two specific examples of government economic
intervention for your consideration, one that has helps economic activity and another that hurts it.
In the early 20th century, a heated Presidential race was underway between Taft, Wilson, and
Roosevelt. An important issue in this particular election was

  • 2. The Matter Of Whiteness By Richard Dyer Essay Epiphany Samuels Final #1 The last line in the introductory chapter of The Matter of Whiteness written by Richard Dyer states Thus it is that the paradoxes and instabilities of whiteness also constitute its flexibility and productivity, in short, its representational power boils down to the unusual nature (some contradictory) that makes white people who they are and what they do allows. This unusualness allows for white people to be free (of labels, of master etc.) and thus maintain power. A quote my argument enhances Switzerland north of Germany and Scotland (1987: 209). Such places had a number of virtues the clarity and cleanliness of the air the rigor demanded by the cold the Enterprise required by the harness of the terrain and climate the sublime Soul elevating beauty of mountain vistas even greater nearness to God above and the presence of the whitest thing on earth snow. All these virtues could be seen to have formed the white character its energy, enterprise, discipline and spiritual evolution and even the white body This quote creates the idea that being white is being made perfectly by God like a Snowy Mountain (21) even made perfectly in his image. These virtues that are being spoken about in the idea of a white character energy, enterprise, discipline, spiritual evolution these are words and phrases that coincide with godliness. I will use two as an example, number one, If is said that God made the word out of nothing in seven day which takes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Migrant Worker Lifestyle Can Be Largely Explained As A... The migrant worker lifestyle can be largely explained as a subculture. These people have their own values and behaviors that distinguish themselves from the average American. The migrant workers work for little pay, and believe that hard work will pay off for them. They travel north and south and across the United States following the harvests of different crops so they can work and get paid. The one thing that sets this apart from the larger culture is that they are not following around the easiest or the highest paying work. They are following some of the hardest and lowest paying work that can be found. This is what sets their values and behaviors apart from the rest of the United States. These people live and grow up in a completely different world than the average American child. They start working at in their preteen years and do not stop working until their bodies won t let them anymore. The children do not get forced into labor that early although many are. They choose to do it on their own because they have a desire to help their family out. This is not common among the average American household. In fact, most of the country would rise in an uproar if white children were found to be doing this sort of work, but it seems an exception has been made for these ones. The lifestyle that these people live is very different from the one the average American lives which makes their lifestyle a subculture inside our larger American culture. • 7. Vision Of An Ideal World Mackenzie Phillips Intro to philosophy T T 9:30 class 10 09 17 What is an ideal world An ideal world is a widely discussed topic among religions and other people in general. Some believe that there really is an ideal world waiting for us. And others just think that those kinds of thoughts about an ideal world are just out right crazy. The whole point of an ideal world is to achieve peace and perfection on earth or after death. This world is a good happy place for everyone to live. Just showing it would be a wonderful place to live in, which is why many religions and people believe in it. Perfection is very hard to achieve this is why some people are sceptical about an ideal world actually existing. Now whatever side you are on I am going to discuss what an ideal world really is and the beliefs about it. By clearing this up I hope to help others decided whether there really is an ideal world or if it s just a myth. When describing an ideal world everyone has their own thoughts on what is going on and what it looks like. Your ideal world depends on your thoughts and what you believe is perfect or right. According to the website CareerRide.com in the article What is your vision of an ideal world? an ideal world is a mix of multiple things that come together as one to work in harmony. • 9. The Tv Show How I Met Your Mother Essay In the TV show How I Met Your Mother, Robin Scherbatsky is a 30 year old woman that does not portray the typical lady on most situational comedies. Being strong headed and loud mouthed, Robin is continuously breaking gender roles by working her way up the business world, not wanting to be a mom, and definitely not being weak or fragile. However, the problem in society is that most women aren t as bold as Robin. Most women don t have the job security or ability to be audacious to stand up to their boss or even just saying a powerful statement. Society is faced with a question of can women be as successful as men in the workplace? Women are unable to thrive in the workplace because they re expected by society to be submissive and servile. Society is changing how women are raised, and not for the better. People often genderize babies from the moment they are born. Right from birth, hospitals make it a point to identify the genderof a baby by wrapping the newborn in either a blue blanket for a boy or a pink blanket for a girl. This is because society assumes that just because someone is female, they would like the color pink. Society is pushing parents to identify children based on gender early on, which also is the beginning of how gender roles from. Renowned, American film critic, Roger Ebert wrote a comical review for the movie and Marsha Sinkevich wrote a pointed response to his viewpoint. Ebert believes the movie adaptation of the poem is strictly satirical, ment for laughter, and should be taken for nothing else but pure enjoyment. Sinkevich wrote a response to to Ebert s review stating that she believed the movie was, storytelling at its best. Personally, I agree more with Ebert. I don t think the film did any justice to the epic poem, Beowulf, and should be seen as a comedy. In Robert Ebert s review he writes, When Beowulf slays Grendel, the hero immediately strips naked, because if Grendel wears no clothes, then he won t...which leads to a great deal of Austinpowerism. This deviates from the actual poem in a mediocre attempt to add humor. In reality, Beowulf simply fought Grendel without weapons he was fully clothed, and protected in a blanket of silver armour. If the film showed the battle as it actually occurred in the epic poem, I would have found it much more enjoyable and I assume others, including Ebert, would have too.... The only truth in her statement is that the movie is sad, viewers watch Hrothgar plumet to his suicidal death; an event which did not occur in the original poem. However, since this scene does not follow the actual events of Beowulf, I feel a false sense of sadness is created. • 13. Tevye s Fiddler On The Roof The definition of a fiddler is as follows: a person who plays the violin, especially one who plays folk music. However, in the play Fiddler on the Roof , the word fiddler has so much more meaning. It means tradition, balance, and it is also a representation of the people of Anatevka. The fiddler in the play shows up fairly often. And every time it adds meaning to the play. At the very beginning, Tevye tells us that the fiddler is a representation of the people of Anatevka: But in our little village of Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2) And it is completely true. Throughout the book it is evident that Tevye especially struggles to keep his balance while he tries to keep... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Speaking of balance, that s the other thing that the fiddler represents. When Tevye comes back from the bar, and after speaking to the constable (Pg. 54), the fiddler comes into the scene and ...he circles Tevye, and they dance off together. (Pg. 54). In the book, that s all it says. However, in the movie you can see the fiddler beckoning Tevye and they begin to dance off together, but the music slowly begins to spin out of control as the fiddler dances off the stage with Tevye and the next scene begins. This indicates that the story is going to spin out of control. So that is how the fiddler represents balance, because the music spinning out of control represents them losing balance. The music that the fiddler plays represents their balance. Which ties into the first quote I mentioned, where Tevye explains that each person in Anatevka is a fiddler on the roof trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2.) So, what the music sounds like is how balanced they are. If they are beginning to fall off the roof, the music gets more intense because the fiddler is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The teacher spoke Catalan (the target language) from the very first moment she arrived in class greeting the students with the words bona tarda . First, she started the lesson by writing on the blackboard parts del dia , el matГ , la tarda and la nit . In order to explain the meaning of such words she showed the gesture of waking up and then she turned on and off the light of the room twice. The teacher continued to explain the meaning of the words with drawings on the blackboard: a sun next to the word sol , a star next to the word estrella , a moon next to the word lluna and a cloud next to the word nГєvols . Second, she opened a book and read the first two lines. To explain the meaning of what was just read she moved around the classroom and illustrated verbs trough actions. For example, to explain the word perdre (to lose) she acted as she was looking for something around the room. Next she asked the students, again in the target language, to read aloud a couple of sentences one by one. After each student read the teacher used gestures and pictures to explain what was written in the text. Ronald Reagan s Economic Policies Although he was a generally controversial president, Ronald Reagan s policy decisions to stimulate economic prosperity, known as Reaganomics, were legitimately beneficial to the United States of America. First, in order to substantiate the success of Reagan s economic policy decisions one must first grasp the varying levels of importance for each aspect of his plan. As Reagan s policies were substantial decisions that defined his presidency and alienated an entire population of more economically liberal people, it makes sense that an understanding of his emphasis on certain decisions would lead to a more persuasive argument. Next, the negation of well formed and logical criticisms of Reagan s economic policies also lend to the support of their benefits and success. Acknowledging a sensible counterargument and addressing specific points of critical analysis serves to further enhance the argument for the success of Reagan s decisions. Furthermore, strong economic growth and the curbing of federal domestic power reinforce the accomplishments of Reaganomics. Though the U.S. did see economic growth, Reaganomics was not purely an economic plan, as cuts in government power, not including the military, benefitted the average American citizen. Moreover, Ronald Reagans economic decisions regarding Soviet foreign policywere also extremely beneficial to the United States. A Priority based Compromise Fuzzy Goal Programming Approach for Channel Allocation Problem Abstract Some companies produce and sell all of their own products through their own internal channels and some use multiple external channels to distribute goods to consumers. Many authors have presented mathematical model for channel allocation problem. Tsai et al (2008) presented a mixed integer fuzzy goal programming model for channel allocation problem considering three different fuzzy goals. In this paper we use the weighted root power mean method of aggregation for obtaining a priority based solution of channel allocation problem where preferences are defined in terms of weights. Keywords: Channel Allocation problem, Compromise fuzzy goal programming, multiobjective optimization, weighted goal programming. 1.Introduction Firms distribute their product through multiple distribution channels which include direct and indirect channels. The channel in which distribution function is grouped by a supplier and one or more of intermediaries, is known as an indirect channel. However, a direct channel distributes products from producers to the users directly without introducing any intermediaries. Many reasons can be presented for the firms to adopt multiple channel strategy because advances in information and manufacturing technology have encouraged multiple channels. However, multiple channels for distribution of the products in the market arise many challenges and one of them is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It served as a reaction to German music which dominated the musical scene at the time. It focused particularly on folk traditions of the composer s national heritage, as well as subjects of national life and history. It also allowed composers such as Stravinsky to form a greater presence in the musical scene. (Curran 2016 Nationalism in Music) The early music of Igor Stravinsky often shows nationalistic traits that reflect his Russian upbringing and influences. Second is the neoclassical period which starts in the early 1920s and ends in the early 1950s. This period sees Stravinsky move beyond nationalism in his music and includes works such as Octet for Wind Instruments (1923), Oedipus Rex (1927) and Symphony in C (1940). The third and final period of Stravinsky s works is the serialism period and includes works such as Canticum Sacrum (1955), Agon (1957) and Requiem Canticles (1966) (Griffiths; Szabo 2011; Taruskin White; Walsh). The transition between the Russian and neoclassical period is an important time as it highlights shifts in Stravinsky s compositional techniques and interests. Examples of the transitional works of Stravinsky include Les Noces (The Wedding) (1917), Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier s Tale) (1918) and Pulcinella (1920) (Szabo 2011, p. 1). There are issues which arise concerning the exploitation and misrepresentation of trauma narratives. The nature of trauma is such that it makes it so that this is essentially an impossible task an outsider perspective being incapable of engaging in trauma cinema. This I will demonstrate with Steve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will argue instead that an outsider perspective is in fact an asset in trauma cinema, especially in the case of a collective trauma. This is because in the case of a collective trauma, like national conflict, there are lines of allegiances drawn and narratives which subsequently conform to these. In other words, renarrativisation tends to affirm existing mythologies where trauma cinema requires the rupturing of mythologies . (Beckett, 2001; 47) How this is facilitated can be in the form of an outsider perspective, this which is able to move beyond the immediate scar tissue (Beckett, 2001; 47), having been unencumbered by loyalties to a particular narrative or political sympathy. An outsider perspective can reveal new perspectives this being the aim of trauma cinema. In this way an outsider perspective can be an asset, it being able to engage in multiples sides to a conflict, with disregard to politicised narratives which hinder from progress. No one can settle upon a drinking age that everyone is in agreement with; should it be 18 or 21? Ages 18 and 21 are the most popular options, yet neither one has 100% of the vote. With the current legal drinking age in America standing at 21, meaning that people under the age of 21 cannot purchase or consume alcoholic food or beverages, there is the question of whether or not to lower it to 18 or 19 years old. The State University campus is dry, meaning there is neither alcohol nor paraphernalia allowed on the campus at any time regardless of age. In the same city, however, Christian Brothers University is a wet campus that allows all students 21 and older to have alcohol in their dorms and around campus. A major question that should be considered is how schools such as these two would be affected in their policies if the drinking age were lowered. One side to this debate is that the legal drinking age should be lowered from 21 to around 18 or 19 years old, and that young adults should be allowed to drink in controlled environments. This idea is presented by Ruth Engs, a professor of Applied Sciences at Indiana University. She states that environments such as taverns, pubs, restaurants and official university functions can be considered to be controlled environments. In these situations responsible drinking could be taught through role modeling and educational programs. Mature and sensible drinking behavior would be expected (Engs). In her article, Engs uses phrases such as forbidden fruit, and a badge of rebellion against authority to describe how teens view drinking. In her opinion, if the drinking age were to be lowered, young adults would no longer feel the pressure to drink in order to be cool. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has been also claimed that the automobile industry, which has been protected by the Japanese government since World War II and taken the major role in the economy (University of Tokyo, 2004), would lose the power and might be difficult to compete with foreign companies. These cars could provide not only cheaper charging costs and repairing fees for drivers but also reductions in air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Described in her letter, Abigail Adams says the truth about men back then that could be applied to the average common man today. I desire you would Remember the Ladies, [...]. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. (Kylene G. Beers 111). Even back then women had troubles fitting in with the tyrants that men are, there has been little change in the status quo. This means there must be a call for change, to get rid of sexism. • 43. Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism Essay Vaccines have been used to prevent diseases for centuries, and have saved countless lives of children and adults. The smallpox vaccine was invented as early as 1796, and since then the use of vaccines has continued to protect us from countless life threatening diseases such as polio, measles, and pertussis. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2010) assures that vaccines are extensively tested by scientist to make sure they are effective and safe, and must receive the approval of the Food and Drug Administration before being used. Perhaps the greatest success story in public health is the reduction of infectious diseases due to the use of vaccines (CDC, 2010). Routine immunization has eliminated smallpox from the globe and... After findings of intestinal disease in children with autism, Wakefield claimed that separating the MMR into three different vaccinations would be safer. Since then, Wakefield s research has been discredited, he was charged with serious professional misconduct by the General Medical Council for violating several ethical practices, and he was investigated for failing to disclose conflict of interest a pending patent on a rival measles vaccine (Gross, 2009). Although false, many still believe wholeheartedly that vaccines are harmful. Wakefield s Study In the 1998 article in the Lancet, Wakefield studied 12 children who, after a period of apparent normality, lost acquired skills, including communication (Wakefield, Murch, Anthony, Linnell, Casson, Malik, Berelowitz, Dhillon, Thomson, Harvey, Valentine, Davies, Walker Smith,1998). All 12 children were reported to show behavioral symptoms after receiving the vaccination. After receiving the vaccination, the features associated with exposure collectively included fever /delirium, rash, self injury, repetitive behavior, loss of self help, convulsion, gaze avoidance, diarrhea, disinterest, lack of play, vomiting, and recurrent viral pneumonia. In 8 of the 12 children, the beginning of behavioral problems was linked to the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination by either the parents or by the child s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Doctrinal Cycle Of Federalism Federalism is when states or provinces share power with a national government. The United States government functions by applying the principles of federalism. The doctrinal cycle of federalism is when the state gain power for a while and then the power is disbursed to the national government for a while. The power is given back and forth between the states and the national government creating a cycle of federalism. The ideology of the Supreme Court is an important factor for determining what level of Congress will hold the power. A liberal Supreme Court is more likely to let the national government hold more power, while a conservative court is more likely to let the states hold more power. There are three types of federalism which are cooperative, dual, and new. The ideology of the Supreme Court affects what type of federalism that the country will live under. Cooperative federalism is when all three levels of government collectively interact to solve common problems. In cooperative federalism there is a strong national government and the Supreme Court allowed Congress to grow and become more powerful. The court s ideology during this time was more liberal, which impacts how the court will decide on cases that are presented to them. The McCulloch v. Maryland case was about Congress creating The Second Bank of the United States, in the state of Maryland. Maryland at the time passed legislation that would impose a tax on the bank. James W. • 45. North American Craton Research Papers North American Craton The North American Craton, or the core of the North American continent, makes up much of the interior of present day Canada and the United States. This area is home to the earliest tectonic activity responsible for the creation of North America, dating back billions of years ago. In the beginning, volcanic island chains, found near ancient oceanic plate subduction zones, slowly formed and thickened into new continental crusts. Eventually these continents, due to their size, became more buoyant than their surrounding ocean basins; thus, allowing them to begin gradually growing outward over time with the addition of new material via subduction, sedimentation, and continental collision. The center of the North American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The oldest sedimentary rocks found here were originally deposited when North America was still located near the equator, beginning around ~350 million years ago. During this time, periods of shallow sea flooding left various sands and muds across much of the craton, which eventually formed into sandstone, limestone, and shale. The landscapes of the national parks on the platform were later shaped by the interaction of these sedimentary layers with the environmental conditions in which they became located. Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, for example, is the result of groundwater slowly dissolving the ancient subsurface limestone, creating the largest cave system on earth with over 346 miles of known passageways today. Similar formations can be seen in places like the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Regions of this type are generally characterized as karst topographies. There are also younger areas of the platform where erosion can be seen but, more predominantly at the surface level, like Badlands National Park in South Dakota, for example. The gradual uplift of the Rocky Mountains to the West led to the formation of several sedimentary layers in this region, beginning around ~100 million years ago. Over time river and wind processes have left the distinctive strata of silt and shale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Spectroscopy Research Paper Astronomers can use the light given off by stars for many things. With the light given off by stars they can see the distance that the star is located from earth. They can also use the light given off by stars to see what that star is composed of. When something is so hot that it glows, for example stars, it shows features that can help you decide what it is made of. This is because different things give off a different spectrum of lightwhen they are burnt to the point that they glow. Each product gives off a different spectrum, this can be compared to be almost like a fingerprint. Cool gases will also absorb various wavelengths of light and produce a spectrum with dark lines at different places. With this in effect, you may observe what the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Absorption lines are created when light from something hot like a star passes through a cooler gas, cancelling out the emission lines the chemicals in the gas would normally create. When you look at the spectrum of a star, for example, you can see absorption lines because the star s outer atmosphere is cooler than the central part, explains Watson. in such an analysis of chemical abundances, the wavelength of each line is treated as fixed. However, this is not true when the star is moving towards us (the lines are observed at shorter wavelengths, or blueshifted, than those measured in the laboratory) or moving away from us. If the spectrum of a star is red or blue shifted, then you can use that to infer their velocities along the line of sight. During the first half of the 19th century, scientists such as John Herschel, Fox Talbot, and Willam Swan studied the spectra of different chemical elements in flames. Gradually, the idea that each element produces a set of characteristic emission lines has become established. Each element has several prominent, and many lesser, emission lines in a characteristic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such new moves by both gorillas like companies may sweep the corners of the market described by some industry analysts. For years, the industry set the prices without consideration of distance, which means, a same sized letter from New York to New Jersey has the same cost as if the letter is shipped to California from New York. In 1996, UPS officially moved to distance based pricing, and Federal Express followed same action in 1997. There is no denying that what actions Airborne take is significant affecting the development of the company, while facing this big change in industry. Section 2: The problem/Opportunity: Airborne Express has long differentiated itself in the market by structuring itself as a big business only carrier. They have specialized in large unit deliveries through metropolitan areas. Everything they do is aimed to optimize the delivery process and slash cost where ever possible. However, Airborne is now faced with a huge decision. They must decide whether to step away from their differentiation strategy to match the new pricing tactics of the market UPS and FedEx or to continue the old norm of delivery pricing. The new distance based pricing strategy threatens Airborne s consistent strategy to cut prices. Clients will seek to ship packages at the lowest cost. The short distance deliveries will be ruled by UPS and FedEx since they are the once who are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The advantage of a IPO is the ability to acquire the necessary funds easily, which is something to consider if in the future the company would like to expand or had a project that needed indispensable funds than the company had available right away. It seems that the option of IPO is the better fit for the company. This type of financing would allow not giving up too much control. It would also require them to act in the best interest of their shareholders. These shareholders would want to see the stock price increase and make a better return on their investment. The Roman religion was more practical and less poetical than the Greek religion. Every Roman god had something to do, some useful duty to perform. The Greek and Roman Gods worshipped by the two nations had similar roles and duties. However, their names were different. The religion of the Romans differed in some aspects from that of the Greeks, so much as it was basically a state religion, and It was more of a ritual and a ceremony. • 50. The American General Election Cycle With the American general election cycle in full swing, one of the fundamental issues in play is the role of government. What is the place of Government? What should elected officials be doing? Do they simply protect personal liberties, or do they also establish safeguards and guidelines for various economic activities? Ask any two people and you ll likely receive two different answers, so nuanced and complex is the issue. Policy can give incentives to business to act a certain way both domestically and abroad. Tax incentives in one region may cause a corporate to relocate (this happened to one of my favorite guitar manufacturers recently, as they moved production from Canada to California!). A central bank s tweak in monetary policy to shift the cost of lending could ultimately move interest rates for consumers looking to take out mortgages or automobile loans. As we witnessed in 2008, the housing market is of international concern and a large central bank wields enormous power. While we like to call the Western economy a free market, there exists a multitude of government policies that impact the freedoms and movements of the economy, for better or for worse. I will present two specific examples of government economic intervention for your consideration, one that has helps economic activity and another that hurts it. In the early 20th century, a heated Presidential race was underway between Taft, Wilson, and Roosevelt. An important issue in this particular election was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
