Lumumba Chapter Analysis
Fifteen years after it all happened, I sat by my radio...we messengers of goodwill adrift on a sea of
mistaken intentions (323).
Orleanna s comparison between what was going on in the political arena of the Congo and the
private arena of the Price family exemplifies the plot of the two dramas in the novel: the
overarching drama in the Congo, contributing the character like setting of the novel, and the more
intimate drama in the Price s family life. The details about Lumumba s imprisonment is
supplemented by Orleanna s own detailed recollections of her family s struggles: Leah wanting to
hunt, Ruth May being sick, having no food, etc. The details about Lumumba s death next to the
Price s family struggles also enhance the image perhaps even characterization of the setting as a

Kingsolver spends an abundance of both Leah and Rachel s narrations of detailing the horrors of
the hunt. In this selection, sentences like Birds hit the wall of fire and lit like bottle rockets
portray the true chaos of the event. In this instance, Leah s point of view is useful for descriptions
of hunt because she fought right in the middle of it. Leah is surrounded by the fire crackling and
the antelopes who did not leap gracefully. Her intimate first person point of view through the use
of details enhances the reader s understanding of the insanity of the event. In addition, the brutality
of the event as given by gruesome details like dark blood leaked from its delicate black mouth
characterizes the population of the whole in Kilanga as having almost animalistic qualities. Rachel
extrapolates on this point later, but through Kingsolver s details in Leah s narration, the reader
understands the brutish behavior of both the white and the black people of the Congo here; they re
starving, just like animals they re

As such, our company s people resources pose the greatest risk for security breach. Our way to
help mitigate risk in this area is to keep communication lines open in this area and to continually
mandate security knowledge training, with mandatory updates on a regular basis. When the
employees are informed of company policy when facing a security matter, they are better equipped
to act in the best or right way. In this way knowledge is power or at least empowerment to act in
the best interest of the company s information security.
Risk Assessment Insights
In the table above, an Asset Inventory and Risk Assessment is displayed for our local Customer
Care operations. The assets considered are our local IT representative, our contracted security
officers, our local HR representative, our annually mandated information security training, our
PeopleSoft software, our networked servers, our customer services database and application,
and our employee database system. The asset value for each is listed based on the annual cost to
the company for one local call center operation. The IT Rep and HR Rep values are based on
annual salary for having one full time equivalent of each available Monday through Friday. The

Free Will And Fate In King Oedipus The King
Humanity:
Human beings have great knowledge capability and can demonstrate incredible powers of
intellectual penetration and awareness. However, it is unreliable and limited because even the
smartest human being will commit an error. King Oedipus means to show that human beings are
powerless before the gods because they are the ones that created us and sort of path our journey on
Earth. Disaster and error can happen to anyone and human beings must have the best attitude
toward life (Sparknotes).
Decision making process:
Human has the capacity to exert free will even though there is fate. Human s personality will
decide their free will. A wise person will make good decisions in life, a stubborn and ignorant
person will not be so fortunate (Fate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The choice of him of not to blind his past shows that he is not a victim of fate by uncovering an
event of past blindness. Bad ones can be uncover by good choices. Oedipus chooses to accept it
and live with dignity. Camus, the great absurdist philosopher and author said that Oedipus is an
absurd hero where he accepts his choices and not his fate (mstultz72, 2009). He seems to admit his
responsibility (Destiny, Fate, Free Will and Free Choice in Oedipus the KingFree Will).
The prophecy to Jocasta and Lauis is a fate. However, they make a free will decision to leave
Oedipus to die by giving him to the servant, but actually it is starting to fulfill the prophecy (Fate
and Free Will in Sophocles Oedipus the King). If they do not send Oedipus to death, he most likely
will not kill Lauis at the crossroads.
Furthermore, Oedipus chooses to be angry at Teiresias. He insults and bullies the seer into
revealing himself is the killer of Lauis causing the plague that affects the Theban citizens and
living things. Also at Creon where he accuses Creon of getting royal powers for his own and
plotting against him to excel. He threatens Creon with a choice of exile or death as punishment and
fate. However, Oedipus end up being punished by what he said

The Psychological Transformation Of Arthur Dimmesdale

English 10 HH
27 March 2015
The Psychological Transformation of Arthur Dimmesdale It is said that the physical, mental, and
spiritual wellbeing are interconnected among spiritual men. Should the spiritual wellbeing be
compromised, through sin or some such disconnect with God, mental and physical health declines.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, a similar degeneration of health, both physical and
mental, is undergone by the tortured minister, Mr. Arthur Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale is the secret
lover of Hester Prynne, the young, passionate protagonist of the novel. Having sinned, he cannot
reveal himself to the townsfolk, and thus is resigned to suffer with it himself for years. His
subconscious guilt is constantly agitated by Roger Chillingworth, and as he becomes more and
more guilt ridden, he becomes untrusting and frail, melancholy and beaten. His mental and spiritual
health diminish to the point of his untimely death in the finale of the book. Indeed, The Scarlet
Letter is a psychological novel, illustrating the steady dissolution of Arthur Dimmesdale from a
healthy, young, and enthused minister to a frail, sickly, and defeated shadow of his former self due
to his inability to cope with his actions. At the origin of the novel, Arthur Dimmesdale is young,
healthy and enthused; he has no trouble with what he has done, he simply doesn t think about it.
Dimmesdale, the shining young minister of Boston, is described as a man whose eloquence and

Conformity In The Film Without My Daughter
Refusing forced conformity can lead to consequences, and an individual can never conform to
anything, without defecting another.
The well known director Brian Gilbert conveyed and explored the theme of conformity in one of
his memorable movies Without my daughter . The movie is extracted from a real life story of
Betty Mahmoody and her daughter Mahtob Mahmoody. The storyline of the movie revolves
around an American couple, the husband is from an Iranian background and he hasn t visited his
home country for more than 10 years. The story progresses as they visit Iran and her husband;
Moody steals her freedom and forces her to live with him and with his family in Iran. Thus, Betty
and Mahtob are being forced to conform to the rules and regulations ... Show more content on

His idea was conveyed and explored in many scenes of the movie. One of the scenes is when
Moody s father wakes him up early every morning to perform the morning prayer that is
unbreakable part of the muslim tradition. Techniques such as facial expressions, dialogue and the
tone of voice are used to express this idea. When Betty in a sleepy tone asks her husband to stay
in bed, You ve been getting up early every morning. Don t go. He replied to her angrily by saying;
What s the matter with you? We re with my family. They re Sayyeds direct descendants of
Mohammed. Of course, to a sophisticated American that must seem primitive. Betty s facial
expression were filled with sadness and pure confusion as she couldn t identify the reason behind
her husband s reaction and words. This shows that Moody was conforming to his family and
religion, however he wasn t conforming to his old lifestyle in America. Also when Betty asked him
to stay, she wasn t conforming to the Islamic religion and tradition. Again Gilbert achieved his goal
clearly when he showed live evident of conformity in the movie, and this further extents the
confirmation of the idea that an individual can never conform to anything, without defecting

What Is The Sociological Imagination
C. Wright Mills published this book in 1959. The Sociological Imagination is the awareness of
the relationship between personal experience and wider society. His main goal of the book was
to merge two different concepts of social reality, the individual and society. The ability to see
things socially and how they interact and influence each other. Mills emphasized the importance
of seeing the connections between social structure and individual experience and agency. He also
talks about personal troubles and public issues. What we often see and experience as personal
troubles, like being unemployed and not being able to pay yours bill are actually public issues.
These are the result of social problems that goes on in society and affect many

Kendrick Lamar Research Paper
Kendrick Lamar
I think when correlating race and social justice with music my brain goes to Kendrick Lamar
immediately for a few reasons; he is openly mad about the treatment of African Americans in
modern day America, he does excessive community outreach in Compton, and his lyrics combine
soulful African music and new age raps about his struggles in an oppressive society. He is the new
voice of Compton, filling in big shoes for Tupac and Snoop Dogg.
His sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly, explores institutional and internalized racism.
Butterflies are beautiful and full of color. Butterflies are so beautiful, they can t be made any more
so. They can t be manipulated, exploited, controlled, or confined. So why does America keep trying

Lamar mocks Washington politicians with the names of gangs in his native Los Angeles, berating
them as DemoCrips and ReBloodlicans and declaring: They give us guns and drugs, call us thugs.
But underneath the album s bravado lies an introspection. Lamar repeatedly raps about
overcoming depression and finding self love. On Mortal Man, Lamar speaks of his survivor s guilt
at escaping the inner city only to be embroiled at what he described as a new struggle against
discrimination.
One of Kendrick Lamar s singles I emulates self love in a society where that is frowned upon,
especially in the black community. He celebrates himself and encourages others to do so through
this uplifting and cheerful song. It is one of great contrast to many of his other more serious
songs, but it s message is still just as powerful. It s lyrics read, I love myself (the world is a ghetto
with guns and picket signs). It acknowledges the problems of the world while remaining ironically

An Analysis Of Laundrette, By Liz Lochhead
The human race is a species built by imagination and curiosity, which has helped some, but left
many in the dust. Scottish poet Liz Lochhead explores this concept in her poem Laundrette as well
as in many of her other poems. Lochhead accesses the imagination of the reader in order for them to
recognise their instinctive curiosity and need to construct their own realities, which is achieved
through her use of symbolism, literary devices, and structure. Liz Lochhead presents this poem in
an extremely symbolic nature, focussing on the more harsh and negative stereotypes of a laundrette
and its patrons, while also bringing the reader into the poem, thus causing them to reflect more on
themselves. The reader is invited to some extent into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the dark shoves a man into the laundrette, which shows how the man is unhappy
about entering the Laundrette, which the reader can easily imagine. The reader then begins to ask
themselves questions and visualise the reason why the man is visiting the laundrette, and why he
is so unhappy to be there. This innate curiosity which is alive in all people is, to some extent,
what makes this poem so interesting. The personification of the washing machine which sobs
could represent the harsh and difficult lives which the patrons of the laundrette lead, thus the
reader is left with the mental image of a sad and aching machine, causing them to rethink their
own lives. The phrase our own colours whirl can be both examined on a literal level and a
figurative level. On a literal level, this phrase describes clothes whirling around a washing
machine, but on a figurative level could also show that people are watching the other people,
therefore the colours or personas of these occupants whirl together and blend with one another,
including different size, sex, race, and social

Negative Effects On Teenagers
More often now than in the past decades you may hear parents say, they grow up so fast ,
referring to adolescent children. A big reason for this is that mature content is more accessible to
the youth now than it was several years ago. A couple decades ago things like a half naked
actress seen on tv was not something expected, but now stuff like that is becoming the norm .
Kids use to play outside but now they sit inside playing video games and watching TV, Do the
parents know what their children are being exposed to? Children are exposed to sexual materials in
music, movies, television shows, and other forms of media at earlier, premature ages, and this kind
of experience can harm their mental health far beyond their youth.
With access to the internet becoming more widespread, children may intentionally or accidently be
exposed to an indefinite amount of uncensored adult material. Some may argue that they don t
understand what it means, but nonetheless the images they re exposed to can leave an everlasting
impression in their early year memories. Studies have brought forward the information that children
as young as 8 and 9 years old are coming in contact with sexually explicit material through the
internet and other forms of visual media. Researchers are just now investigating the potential
damage that it can do to a young adolescent mind. Researchers believe that early exposure to
mature content, especially sexually explicit material, can lead to the following

Botanical Gardens, Research Paper on California Plants
California is a state of enormous diversity. From the coast to the mountains and the forests to the
deserts, California is full of a wide array of plant life. California is the third largest state in the
United States and thus has a major variation in climate resulting in the many plants found. Not only
are there many plants found here, but many of those plants cannot be found anywhere else. There
are also many nonnative plants that have become a part of the scenery in California. The best way to
understand the state s vegetation is to first understand the floristic provinces.

Most chaparral plants grow mainly in the spring. They take advantage of the winter rains

these plants usually cope by becoming dormant. During this time they are very susceptible to fire.
The evergreen nature of this plant allows it to keep its leaves and not use and energy to create new

The Insanity Of Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe, was especially antisocial, and some would say insane. His insanity was solely
prompted by events in his life. On December 8, 1811, both of Poe s parents died from the
dreadful disease, tuberculosis. Poe s foster mother, with whom he was close with, dies in
Richmond on February 28, 1829 from a long sickness. Upon the date Aug 1, 1831, Poes older
brother Henry dies of either tuberculosis or cholera at the age of 27. Poe s wife Virginia died of
tuberculosis on Jan 30, 1847 (Poe Museum). Poe has been so despondent while the illness
consumed the final months of Virginia s life that friends thought he was going insane. The loss of
his wife extended Poes dependency on alcohol. Some of Poe s beliefs were viewed as ludicrous,
but truly were coherent. Poe expresses these beliefs throughout his stories. These beliefs include,
alcohol can end and destroy one s life, there s nothing to stop death, and that true happiness is not
possible as long as moral evil lurks within the darkness.
Edgar Allan Poe believed that alcohol could end and destroy one s life. He conveyed this belief
throughout Hop Frog, and Cask of Amontillado. In Poe s story Hop Frog, a self righteous king
coerced a jester to drink knowing he was especially not fond of alcohol. The king himself was
intoxicated, and had performed his actions solely for his amusement and attention from his consol
of ministers. Hop Frog became tremendously irritated. His irritation had brought great iniquitous

Interactionist Qualia Dualism

Final
In this paper, I will address three propositions that surface in philosophy. The three are: (a) the
physical is causally closed, (b) Mary learns a new fact when she leaves her room, and (c) qualia
causes behavior. With these three theses, one can accept only two of these. I will examine the
three views one gets if accepts two and denies the third. I will specifically argue that qualia causes
behavior, with the view Interactionist qualia dualism is the most plausible of the three views.
With the three theses not all a through c can be true. If you assume any of the two, the third has to
be false. In order to do so, one needs to reject one of these three all which seem plausible. ... Show

Qualia, such things as sensations like tastes, smells, pains, etc. If one accepts (b) , then qualia are
nonphysical. If one accepts (c), then there is something nonphysical causing something physical
(behavior). We deny (a) because by accepting (c) then something nonphysical is causing behavior.
Therefore, CCP is false. This view is IQD, Interactionist qualia dualism. Qualia causes behavior and
the physical world causes qualia; and qualia are nonphysical.
Someone might think (a) is true because our experience strongly suggests it s true. Someone
might think (b) is true because Mary learns a new fact when she leaves her room and sees
something red for the first time. Someone might think (c) is true because it seems as obvious
that qualia affect the way we behave as whole. I find that qualia causes behavior (IQD) is the
most plausible of the three views. By accepting IQD as the most plausible of the three views, it s
safe to argue that qualia causes behavior and the physical world causes qualia; and qualia are
nonphysical. There is a two way interaction between the physical world and qualia. Things in the
physical world causes qualia and qualia causes states in the physical world, such as behavior.
Lastly, qualia are nonphysical. Our mind and body interact, if I m slouching on a chair and my back

Importance Of Travel To Travel Essay
Family, new experiences and memories are three things I get from buying a ticket to travel.
Buying a ticket to travel outside the country can open so many doors and can teach you a lot
from the other places you visit. My whole life I have been traveling in and out of mexico and
that is my favorite place to go. Growing up getting use to going to Mexico I paid little attention to
what was actually going on when i would travel. Traveling truly meant getting away from reality,
having freedom, and getting to know yourself better. These three things have been developing
every time i would travel and will continue every single time i continue to repeat the pattern. Many
new possibilities can appear just by buying a single ticket that can help you view everything
differently in a matter of time.
Getting the news from my parents that they had already bought the flight tickets was almost as
important as the day of actually getting there. I remember my favorite part was being able to see
the ticket that gave me motivation to perform my best at everything I did the last couple of days
that i was still here because i knew that soon in would be able to spend time with my family.
Spending time with my family has always been by far my favorite thing to do when I am in mexico
because it is not a everyday thing where i can go visit my grandparents. As i spend time with
them i get to learn a lot of where my parents came from and i get to know myself better as well i

Pros And Cons Of Vice President Joe Biden
This week, speculation about a potential presidential run from Vice President Joe Biden has
increased. Maureen Dowd, a columnist for the New York Times wrote that the death of his son,
Beau, has caused him to reconsider running in the 2016 election. She reports that he has been
meeting with friends and family about becoming a candidate. Dowd never named any sources and
the credibility of the report is not good. But it has ignited a debate this week over whether the 72
year old Vice President, will run, should run, and any possible question less certain the media can
ask than Will Hillary win the Democratic nomination? Biden has not ruled out a third presidential
campaign but has done nothing to indicate one either. Aides say many condolence... Show more

Biden is well liked by nearly everyone in Washington and his supportive role in the Obama
administration has helped his stature. He s seen as an authentic and funny guy. While Biden
makes a great Onion headline and uncle, his vulnerabilities make him not a great candidate for
president. Biden s previous presidential campaigns have been terribly executed. In 1988, Biden
plagiarized speeches from a British politician, destroying any chance of a successful campaign.
Biden ran for president in 2008 as well, earning less than one percent of the vote in Iowa. Biden
s foreign policy and national security record is slim at best. Obama s first secretary of defense
wrote that he found him nearly always wrong on issues of foreign policy and national security.
Despite recent drop in polling numbers, over 75 percent of Democrats support Hillary. She s
garnered more endorsements at this stage of the election than any modern era. She s raised 68
million dollars. Biden doesn t have a significant advantage over Hillary in the general election. If
voters are tired of Obama and Democrats, they re tired of Biden as well. His age is also a
hinderance as well. While Americans aren t concerned about a 72 year old executing the duties of
vice president, most don t know what a vice president does. Biden would be 74 on the date of his
potential inauguration. Reagan was nearly 70. If for some reason Clinton bombs out of the race,
Biden is the candidate with the best odds. But until then, the odds of him winning the Democratic
nomination aren t good enough for him to

Allusions In Shakespeare Essay
William Shakespeare was one of England s most prominent author and amongst his ample works
are umpteen reference s to astromical, as well as astrological bodies, such as stars, planets, the
moon, or meteors as well as mythological gods and goddesses ( Hayes 1). Due to the fact that
Elizabethan s firmly believed in this such as zodiac, that made Shakespeare s plays very popular.
A number of Shakespeare s characters speeches include more than a hundred allusions to
astrology and mythology. Astrology played a major role in Shakespeare. In Shakespeare s play
Richard II one of the characters states, These signs forerun the death or fall of kings ( Astronomy

The Exorcist By William Peter Blatty
In William Peter Blatty s novel, The Exorcist, a thirteen year old girl becomes ill. The mother,
Chris MacNeil, believes that her daughter is possessed by a demon after doctors are unable to
diagnose the child. Mrs. MacNeil seeks help from Father Karras after the doctors tell her to go to
a priest. Father Karras, a priest and psychiatrist, declined the idea of performing an exorcismon the
girl after Mrs. MacNeil asked him for the favor. Father Karras tried to reason with Mrs. MacNeil
that the girl, Regan MacNeil, was likely to have a mental illness. Father Karras finally agreed to

Peter Blatty argues that religion is the antidote to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides the doctors who tried diagnosing Regan, Father Karras suggested that Regan had split
personality and tried to explain it to Chris:
The human brain contains, say, seventeen billion cells... we see that they handle approximately a
hundred million messages per second; that s the number of sensations bombarding your body.
They not only integrate all of these messages, but they do it efficiently... Now imagine that the
human body is a massive ocean liner... all of your brain cells are the crew... Now the captain is
you, it s your waking consciousness. And what happens in dual personality is that one of those
crew cells down below deck comes up on the bridge and takes over command. In other words,
mutiny. (Blatty 240)
Father Karras suggests that Regan has multiple personalities rather than being possessed because
he believes that an exorcism is not the solution for what Regan is experiencing. Chris is told that
her daughter is not possessed, but she is sick. In order to find the correct illness, Chris took Regan
to multiple doctors so that they could properly diagnose her. The first doctor that Regan went to
gave her an electroencephalograph, or an EEG, which shows the doctors the pattern of her brain
waves and would indicate abnormal functioning of the brain (Blatty 108). With the test being done
on Regan, the doctor hoped to find symptoms that could match an illness. As a result, the EEG
showed that Regan did not have abnormal functioning due

What do we do? Allison asked.
I don t know, Shelly said.
The security guards captured them. The security guards blindfolded the teenagers and they put
them in handcuffs. The security guards then took the teenagers on a bus. The teenagers had a long
journey. But eventually, they arrived to an unknown location. Even though the teenagers had their
blindfolds on, they knew that they have entered a building.
Eventually, somebody took off the teenagers blindfolds and their handcuffs. They were in a cell
with no windows nor beds. But there were benches to sit on, a toilet, a sink, and carpet on the floor.

Rajput Painting Analysis
Rajput Painting
Throughout the modules of this course we have learned about different elements of Eastern art that
give us the tools to try and understand the complexity that is Indian painting. Indian painting has
dated back many centuries, starting with paintings on pottery coming from the bronze age found in
Baluchistan 3 (17). Since this time until the 17th century (which is when the piece of art I chose),
Indian painting has progressed and developed immensely. I chose art from the Rajput era of
painting, coming from Rajasthan India. Even in the painting I chose for this assignment, you can
see the effects the culture from that time had on the Rajput style of art, in comparison with other
periods of Indian painting. Although there is little information on Rajput painting, the impact this
period had on Indian painting and its development after this period is immense.
Rajasthan India also known as Abode of Princes which contained many distinctive geographical
regions that held different Rajput states each enjoying a nominal independence when they could
escape the attentions of their more powerful neighbors 4 (131). These different states led to the
development of the different styles of Rajput art from the 17th century to the 19th century. Rajput
people lived in a culture that put a lot of emphasis on honour and bravery, their society also
expected these traits not only of men but of women as well 4 (131). The conditions that produced

It s better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all Do you agree?
The saying actions speak louder than words can be applied to this scenario. Many people often
dare to dream but fear stops them from ever moving forward on their goals. The fear of failure,
of not knowing if it is possible to accomplish what may seem like the most unrealistic dream a
person sets out to achieve. One example we can learn from is one of the greatest swimmer the
world has seen, Ian Thorpe.

Speaking from personal experience, failure is the mother of success, and without overcoming the
challenge posed to me, I would not make it a step further. For example, ever since I stepped on the
podium in the primary school swimming nationals, I have always wanted to have the chance to
do it again in the secondary school, scoring more points for my school. This year was the last
year the school nationals where I could have a chance on stepping on the podium once again and
I made use of the opportunity I was given. I started training extremely hard, to a point where I
was at the pool at 5 in the morning and back again after school at 4 in the afternoon for strength
as well as water training. The number of times I would turn up could go up to ten times a week.
This arduous task went on for four to five months and in between, I still had to make sure that I
was keeping up with school curriculum. At the recent national schools, I competed and instead
was placed 5th, missing the podium by a whopping one second. Although I failed to reach the goal

National Schools Swimming Championship would have been my chance to qualify for the games.

which contain high concentrations of F bearing minerals, such as biotite or apatite (Reimann and

significantly lower. As the water samples were taken from surface sources and shallow, hand dug
wells, where the main F source are the highly weathered parent rocks, the low F concentrations
were expectable. However, since surface water and the shallow hand dug wells are the main
drinking water sources of the local population, we assumed the overall F consumption via the rock
water pathway to be low as well.
In contrast, F concentrations in drinking water in basalt areas around Lake Magadi in Kenya, where
dental fluorosis is endemic, are greater than 1.7 mg L 1 (Jones, Eugster, and Reitig 1977). In the

Since the beginning of European colonization in 1788, Aboriginal people have experienced
displacement, have been the targets of genocidal policies and practices, and have had families
destroyed through the forcible removal of children. Decades of colonial exploitation and a
prolonged systematic attempt to destroy Aboriginal people and culture have led to legislations and

Aboriginal people did not have access to amenities, such as cinemas, hotels, cafГ©s and

abuse (**). In the town of Walgett they decided to picket the Walgett Returned Service League
Club (RSL) as a protest against the treatment of Aboriginal people. The media covered the
Walgett RSL protest. The central role of the film camera in this campaign demonstrated the
growing sophistication of activists who recognized the need to show city dwellers what was
happening in country towns. Also captured on tape was the vice president of the RSL who said he
would never allow an Aboriginal to become a member (Curthoys, 2011, 12). Such evidence was
beamed into the living rooms of Australians with the evening news and exposed an endemic racism.
This film footage shocked city viewers and added to the mounting pressure on the government.
The legacy of the Freedom Ride political action was a greater awareness of Aboriginal issues in a
rural context. Perkins and his fellow students had successfully stirred up debate and sparked
discussion around Australia on the state of Aboriginal affairs. Awakening media interest in
Aboriginal affairs was positioned in favor of the Black Australian cause, to the severe
embarrassment of many white townspeople in rural New South Wales. In the ensuing public
debate, urban public knowledge of racial discrimination grew, some

What Is The Reflection Of African American Literature
Ever since I took Hip Hop Cinema last semester with Dr. Tani Sanchez I have been greatly
interested in African American writing and African American culture in general. This course has
allowed me to become a more cultured and informed person which I believe is a character trait that
is vital in current day society. This piece of writing will further explain why I have found this
African Americanliterature course so interesting and describe memorable things in this course
have made me have strong feelings and then I will relate those interests and feelings to pieces of
literature that we have read throughout the course of the semester in order to tie those interests
and feelings to some examples and personal memories. I believe that the things which I saw as
memorable throughout the course will stick with me long after finals week due to the fact that
they are vital to being an inclusive and understanding culture in my opinion. The most
memorable things that I will take away from this course are how poorly the views towards
African Americans have been and still tend to be, how the Harlem Renaissance was able to play
such a big part in the history of African American culture, and how African American writers
were able to showcase a sense of revolution within their specific pieces of writing. The most
memorable thing I took from this course was with regards to how African Americans have been
viewed throughout American history in popular culture, this course has really been able to
show me how poorly African Americans were viewed by people who were not part of the
diverse African American culture. Over the course of the semester as we saw this theme over
and over again, it was clear that I felt a sense of anger over learning about how poorly African
Americans have been viewed in society and that has led me to sad about how so many people
could have such a negative view on a group of people that live on the same streets in the same
cities as they do. The piece of writing which I would like to compare this memorable part of the
course is Going To Meet The Man by James Baldwin. This text is all about a Sheriff named Jess

From the king of Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon Alexander the Great, Through every

PURPOSE STATEMENT
Through scholarly research of Florentine politics and daily life during the rule of the Medici, it is
affirmed that Giralamo Savonarola used religion and fear to inhibit the progression of the
Renaissance in Florence.

Lorenzo and his humanist circle had a great influence on artist in patronized including Botticelli.
During the Middle Ages, the church commissioned most of the art being produced which limited
the subject matter and censorship. Now, however, the Medici were the chief patrons using art as
a political declaration rather than a religious idea. Commissioned by the Medici, Donatello s
David was the first free standing nude sculpture completed since antiquity (Gilmore 83). The work
symbolized the shift of the arts from the church to the political forum. As art and learning thrived,
morals and grace declined in the eyes of the church. Many religious traditionalist viewed Florence
as an evil and godless city. These fundamentalists eagerly waited for a great reformed to restore
Florence to a religious city.
PREACHER AND REFORMER Giralamo Savonarola was born in Ferrara in 1452. He was
brought to Florence by Lorenzo after Pico della Mirandola encouraged him to bring Savonarola
to the city. In Ferrara, Savonarola was a traditionalist and a moralist and renowned as a preacher
and a prophet. Upon his arrival, Savonarola did not intend on reforming the city and returning it to
a religious centered state. Yet, after witnessing the atrocities of Florence, he became a reformer
and an outspoken enemy of the Medici family. Savonarola believed with a passionate conviction
that God ruled the world and he personally felt responsible to turn people away from sin towards

They liked to keep track of their days, and when to pray for their gods. The calendar was very
important to Aztecs, it was an indicator of when to do a sacrifice; the Aztecs highly valued
sacrifices and rituals for their gods. The Aztecs weren t some messed up people, they were
organized, and they had a clean living style. The Aztecs were knowledgeable, they were skilled
at many things and they had religious idols on the calendar to show how much they value their
gods. Their main purpose, stated above, was to know what day to sacrifice, as they thought of
the gods as highly important, and they thought if no sacrifice is made, the gods will die. The
Aztecs needed to be precise at knowing when to do a sacrifice, they didn t want to make the
gods upset if they didn t do their sacrifice on time. Overall calendars were highly important to
Aztecs, and they used calendars in their daily lives, knowing what day to trade (for merchants),
or when to pray was important. Calendars were made out of stone, they were carved and
chiseled. Similar to both the birdcage and the miniature god sculpture, it took a lot of time and
precision. Calendars weren t something to be done fast, it took a lot of time, the Aztecs wanted
to know accurately when to celebrate festivals, do sacrifices, and when to pray. Making the

Lord Byron And William Shakespeare
Since the beginning of time, human beings have found a variety of ways to illustrate their
affections for one another. An intriguing form to present an individual s ideal thoughts across is
the form of poetry, for it displays a deep and mysterious meaning behind the connotation of the
words used. Poetry allows writers to express themselves through the act of writing with the usage
of a few words. However, it is sometimes difficult for a reader to comprehend what the poem is
trying to imply, but that is the beauty behind poetrywhich as a reader, one might have a different
interpretations from another. In an analysis of She walks in beauty by Lord Byron and Sonnet
130 by William Shakespeare, they both have a unique distinction on how the words are used to
project affections to their respective lover. The linguistic style of the poets diverges in their
depiction the physical appearance, emotive feelings, and understanding what the lover means to
them. Lord Byron and William Shakespeare did an incredible job analyzing their counterpart s
physical appearance that was just mind blowing to a reader. Throughout the poem She walks in
beauty by Lord Byron, he uses imagery that allowed him to compare his lover with nature. She
walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies, And all that s best of dark and
bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to the tender light Which heaven gaudy day

destruction. One of these layers, the seventh according to more recent excavators, was no doubt the
city of Priam and Hector. The historicity of the Homeric tale had been demonstrated
archaeologically. M.I. Finley, the World of Odysseus
Introduction
The Trojan War and its characters are detailed in the writings of Homer, Vergil, Dante and many
others. It is a fantastical tale of a decade long siege of a powerful city by a massive pan hellenic
force. However, even though it has proved to be such a rich source of inspiration for writers, poets
and artists throughout history, it is debated whether it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thucydides, much like Heroditus, believed that it had happened, though he does concede that
Homer had changed the story in creating his poetry.
Other authors who have drawn on the Trojan War include Plato, Vergil and Dante. Though the
Trojan War was an event from early Greek history, the Romans too wrote about it. Vergil s
unfinished Aeneid tells the story of Aeneas. Indeed, classical civilisations did not have a monopoly
on the Trojan War Ulysses (Odysseus latinised) appears alongside Diomedes (another leader of the
Achaeans who, amongst other deeds, went inside the famous Trojan Horse) in Dante s Inferno.
Because so many authors have written about the Trojan War, there are conflicting versions of
events. However, we can compare the different versions and conclude that anything that is repeated
in each of the sources actually happened. At the most basic level, we can say that the Trojan War
was a pan hellenic assault on the city of Troy, which after a protracted siege, the attackers were the
victors. (If we do not take it for granted that the Trojan War was an attack on the Trojans, then
there is very little reason for calling it the Trojan War .)
The other problems with the surviving accounts of the Trojan War are the involvement of the gods.
Supposedly Apollo and Poseidon helped build Troy as punishment. Throughout the Aeneid, the
gods aid mortals in their own particular struggles. Obviously, if the Trojan

Corporate Bonds
Corporate bonds have had a long thriving history in the fixed income market. The first corporate
bond issued dates back to the construction of railroads after the conclusion of the Civil War.
Increasing in popularity each year, the corporate bond issuance rate has been on a steady incline
with daily trading in the billions. Corporate bonds are very complex but simple enough to where
everyone can increase their wealth by investing in them. Essentially corporate bonds are debt that a
company issues to the investor. Issued by either a private or public company, companies use these
funds to build facilities, buy equipment and/ or expand their business. These businesses are
typically public utilities, transportation companies, industrial... Show more content on

There are many advantages for corporations, banks, or investors to look into investing or issuing
Eurobonds. One of the advantages is that Eurobonds is that they have no currency exchange risk
because the bond is issued and repaid in U.S. dollars. This is an advantage because the dollar is
the reserve currency of the world. These particular bonds are also more favorable to the issuer
because they are easily transferable and require less investment and effort. The income is for the
most part untaxed and the coupon interest needs to be paid is less than that of other international
bonds. In general, corporate bonds have many advantages to the company and the investor. The
investor is actually safer when they decide to buy corporate bonds in comparison to stocks. When
investing in stocks there is uncertainty in the return you will receive. However when investing in
bonds you know the amount that you will receive in certain increments at a set time. Most bonds
have fixed coupon payments for the duration of the bond. These coupon payments are usually semi
annually, yearly, monthly, quarterly, or at the maturity of the bond. Also the payments are set at the
issuance of the bond so the bondholder receives a known fixed income when they purchase a bond
from a company.

Transcendence in Marilynne Robinson’s Housekeeping Essay
Transcendence in Marilynne Robinson s Housekeeping
William H. Burke suggests that transience in Marilynne Robinson s Housekeeping is a type of
pilgrimage, and that the rigors and self denials of the transient life are necessary spiritual
conditioning for the valued crossing from the experience of a world of loss and fragmentation to
the perception of a world that is whole and complete (717). The world of reality in Housekeeping is
one fragmented, isolated, and arbitrary as glimpses one has at night through lighted windows
(Robinson 50). Many of the characters that precede Ruth in the narrative rebel against something in
this world that is not right. Edmund Foster, her grandfather, escapes by train to the Midwest and his

Nor will they, like Edmund and Helen, submit to a premature death in the water; instead they pursue
a spiritual transience that will lead them to an earthly state of transcendent grace.
The thoughts and emotions that occur in connection with water are triggered by the lake, and
they help Ruth choose transience over any other form of existence. When water floods
Fingerbone, the boundaries are overrun, exposing the impermanence of the physical world, and
the world s own natural push towards transience. Water shifts the margins, warning us that the
visible world only shows us part of the whole or perhaps even a mere reflection of a false reality.
After the fantastic train wreck in which Ruth s grandfather perished, the lake sealed itself over
in ice, changing boundaries again, while it concealed, like a secret, the last traces of the victims
with the illusion of its calm surface. The lake, a source of beauty and darkness, life and death, is
the accumulated past, which vanishes but does not vanish, which perishes and remains (172).
Water carries the symbolic possibility for rebirth the flood causes the graves in the town cemetery
to sink, so that they looked a little like...empty bellies, suggesting that the dead were born into the
receding waters (62). As water and death are so pre eminent in Sylvie s consciousness, in dream,

Ancient Egyptian Tombs
Abstract Studying ancient Egyptian tombs have long been an important source of information
regarding many aspects of Egyptian religion. Walls of New Kingdom tombs are often decorated
with plenty of painted religious scenes. While they were primarily private structures containing
images selected by the person who expected to be housed there for eternity, the funerary
monuments also reflect religious beliefs. While numerous researches focused on many of the
religious scenes depicted on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs, no one focused on the knife
holders scenes. Hence, the current study focused on knife holders scenes depicted on the walls of
both royal and private tombs dating back to the New Kingdom at Thebes. The current study... Show

Crack Act Essay
The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act is a controversial
initiative in the United States that grants minor immigrants residency in the country and ensures
that their educational needs are met. While the act has claimed to be beneficial to a certain portion
of the population, it is widely argued that the program s cost effectiveness and societal effects have
been unproven since its inception, and therefore; an alternative program is needed to fulfill the gap.
The following section includes background information pertaining to the DREAM Act, including
history and facts about its enactment and its effects on program beneficiaries and mainstream
society. Opposing viewpoints are then presented from both sides, ... Show more content on

As a result, the act has been revised many times and remained unpassed since its original
introduction in 2001. The bill came close to passing after debates in the Senate and the House in
2010, coming eight votes short and enduring a filibuster. The bill has been promoted by some
advocates as a way to fulfill the military shortage crisis and has helped some states clarify
residency status for the purpose of funding higher education and setting in state tuition levels
(Forenza and Mendonca 292). Since the act remained unpassed, a more restricted variation known
as DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) came into effect instead, which offered limited
status for alien minors who attended high school or entered higher education. However, these
revisions have not led to any formal policy on educational assistance and/or residency status for
alien minors. Several attempts have been made to include text from the proposed bill into other
pieces of legislation, such as those involving comprehensive immigration reform or within the
Department of Defense (Hing 54). The bill has received favor from military leaders, but has been
criticized by many other social institutions for being too lenient and susceptible to abuse or
violation (Hing 55). The following section includes a discussion of viewpoints

External Changes And Internal Reforms Of The Last 40 Years
This essay will show that the external changes and internal reforms of the last 40 years have led to
the retreat of the liberal democratic state. Perhaps, these changes and reforms have resulted in the
revival of the state, but overall this has not been the case. This is due to the fragmentation and
diminished accountability stemmed from the internal reform, new public management. Although
the issue of Europeanisation is raised when discussing the states retreatment, I will focus on the
topic of globalisation. This is because of the loss of power, sovereignty and nationality the state has
suffered.
The liberal democratic state has been in retreat due to its fragmentation and diminished
accountability caused by the internal reform: new public management (NPM). NPM is an attempt
to reform the public sector through the application of management techniques used in the private
sector. In reality, NPM is a loose concept, consisting of different economic reforms. (Osborne 2009)
While the adoption of NPM has had many advantages, there have been substantial unintended
consequences from this implementation. This internal reform has resulted in a fragmentation of the
state that has led to blurred and diminished accountability. Rhodes explains that within the UK civil
service the role of officials is increasingly constrained by new management systems and political
controls. The obvious outcomes of these changes are fragmentation and diminished accountability.

Rumble Fish By Francis Ford Coppola
Rumble Fish
The novel based American drama movie Rumble Fish was directed by Francis Ford Coppola in
1983 the author of the novel S.E. Hinton also co wrote the screen play. The cinematographer is
Stephen Burum, the music is by Stewart Copeland, and the editor is Barry Malkin and the.
Zoetrope Studios produced the movie with a 10 million dollar budget (Clarke).
The plot is primarily about the struggles of the main two characters, Rusty James (Matt Dillon)
and his older brother the Motorcycle Boy (Mickey Rourke). The film shows their journey of self
discovery fueled by the desire to break away from the toxic environment, and end the constant
internal conflict they experience. I think Coppola s unique approach to film was able to deliver
certain themes in the audience in a way the novel alone couldn t. However, the no movie is
completely free from external inspirations and I was able to draw parallels between some of the
movie s major themes to earlier movies and detect traces of the French new wave. Another movie
influence is the Cabinet of Calgary German expressionist and film noir are the main significant
inspirations on the cinematographic style of Rumble Fish. Traces of those genres can be detected in
the film s storyline, mise en scene, cinematography, and sound.
Like in any well produced film, Coppola began the creative process by first studying the novel and
script, then discussing it with the author to determine which key elements must be transferred

The Global Issue Of The Industrial Revolution
The industrial revolution known for many things including the peak point where human population
hit one billion. It took humans 130 years to hit two billion and as time moved on it took less and
less time, the fifth billion only took 13 years to accomplish (Worldometers). It may have started as
a great thing in the industrial revolution but now in the twenty first century population has become
a global issue. A global issue can be identified because it is not only affecting the whole humanrace,
but also global in the sense that it affects the whole world. War and conflict, poverty, high cost of
living, degradation of the environment, depletion of natural resources, and unemployment all
caused by the ever growing human population. William Halal and Michael Marien identified,
what is known as the Mega Crisis, A global environmental and economic collapse or near collapse,
along with attendant problems of rising prices, mass protests, wide spread psychic stress, and
lawlessness. (Halal and Marien. 2011) and although I admire the work of these authors one aspect
that they tend overlook is the connecting link between all trends leading to the Megacrisis,
overpopulation. Over population is when the number of living humans is compared to the available
resources, such as water and the essentials they need to survive. Imagine in some extraordinary
event the world loses a quarter of its population, many of these trends mentioned and those
identified by Halal and Marien would

  • 2. Lumumba Chapter Analysis Fifteen years after it all happened, I sat by my radio...we messengers of goodwill adrift on a sea of mistaken intentions (323). Orleanna s comparison between what was going on in the political arena of the Congo and the private arena of the Price family exemplifies the plot of the two dramas in the novel: the overarching drama in the Congo, contributing the character like setting of the novel, and the more intimate drama in the Price s family life. The details about Lumumba s imprisonment is supplemented by Orleanna s own detailed recollections of her family s struggles: Leah wanting to hunt, Ruth May being sick, having no food, etc. The details about Lumumba s death next to the Price s family struggles also enhance the image perhaps even characterization of the setting as a complex, dynamic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kingsolver spends an abundance of both Leah and Rachel s narrations of detailing the horrors of the hunt. In this selection, sentences like Birds hit the wall of fire and lit like bottle rockets portray the true chaos of the event. In this instance, Leah s point of view is useful for descriptions of hunt because she fought right in the middle of it. Leah is surrounded by the fire crackling and the antelopes who did not leap gracefully. Her intimate first person point of view through the use of details enhances the reader s understanding of the insanity of the event. In addition, the brutality of the event as given by gruesome details like dark blood leaked from its delicate black mouth characterizes the population of the whole in Kilanga as having almost animalistic qualities. Rachel extrapolates on this point later, but through Kingsolver s details in Leah s narration, the reader understands the brutish behavior of both the white and the black people of the Congo here; they re starving, just like animals they re ... • 6. The Psychological Transformation Of Arthur Dimmesdale Noah Slon Ms. Cella English 10 HH 27 March 2015 The Psychological Transformation of Arthur Dimmesdale It is said that the physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing are interconnected among spiritual men. Should the spiritual wellbeing be compromised, through sin or some such disconnect with God, mental and physical health declines. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, a similar degeneration of health, both physical and mental, is undergone by the tortured minister, Mr. Arthur Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale is the secret lover of Hester Prynne, the young, passionate protagonist of the novel. Having sinned, he cannot reveal himself to the townsfolk, and thus is resigned to suffer with it himself for years. His subconscious guilt is constantly agitated by Roger Chillingworth, and as he becomes more and more guilt ridden, he becomes untrusting and frail, melancholy and beaten. His mental and spiritual health diminish to the point of his untimely death in the finale of the book. Indeed, The Scarlet Letter is a psychological novel, illustrating the steady dissolution of Arthur Dimmesdale from a healthy, young, and enthused minister to a frail, sickly, and defeated shadow of his former self due to his inability to cope with his actions. At the origin of the novel, Arthur Dimmesdale is young, healthy and enthused; he has no trouble with what he has done, he simply doesn t think about it. Dimmesdale, the shining young minister of Boston, is described as a man whose eloquence and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The well known director Brian Gilbert conveyed and explored the theme of conformity in one of his memorable movies Without my daughter . One of the scenes is when Moody s father wakes him up early every morning to perform the morning prayer that is unbreakable part of the muslim tradition. When Betty in a sleepy tone asks her husband to stay in bed, You ve been getting up early every morning. Don t go. He replied to her angrily by saying; What s the matter with you? We re with my family. They re Sayyeds direct descendants of Mohammed. Of course, to a sophisticated American that must seem primitive. Betty s facial expression were filled with sadness and pure confusion as she couldn t identify the reason behind her husband s reaction and words. This shows that Moody was conforming to his family and religion, however he wasn t conforming to his old lifestyle in America. Also when Betty asked him to stay, she wasn t conforming to the Islamic religion and tradition. He is the new voice of Compton, filling in big shoes for Tupac and Snoop Dogg. His sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly, explores institutional and internalized racism. On Mortal Man, Lamar speaks of his survivor s guilt at escaping the inner city only to be embroiled at what he described as a new struggle against discrimination. He celebrates himself and encourages others to do so through this uplifting and cheerful song. • 13. An Analysis Of Laundrette, By Liz Lochhead The human race is a species built by imagination and curiosity, which has helped some, but left many in the dust. Scottish poet Liz Lochhead explores this concept in her poem Laundrette as well as in many of her other poems. Lochhead accesses the imagination of the reader in order for them to recognise their instinctive curiosity and need to construct their own realities, which is achieved through her use of symbolism, literary devices, and structure. Liz Lochhead presents this poem in an extremely symbolic nature, focussing on the more harsh and negative stereotypes of a laundrette and its patrons, while also bringing the reader into the poem, thus causing them to reflect more on themselves. This innate curiosity which is alive in all people is, to some extent, what makes this poem so interesting. The personification of the washing machine which sobs could represent the harsh and difficult lives which the patrons of the laundrette lead, thus the reader is left with the mental image of a sad and aching machine, causing them to rethink their own lives. The phrase our own colours whirl can be both examined on a literal level and a figurative level. A big reason for this is that mature content is more accessible to the youth now than it was several years ago. A couple decades ago things like a half naked actress seen on tv was not something expected, but now stuff like that is becoming the norm . Kids use to play outside but now they sit inside playing video games and watching TV, Do the parents know what their children are being exposed to? Children are exposed to sexual materials in music, movies, television shows, and other forms of media at earlier, premature ages, and this kind of experience can harm their mental health far beyond their youth. With access to the internet becoming more widespread, children may intentionally or accidently be exposed to an indefinite amount of uncensored adult material. Some may argue that they don t understand what it means, but nonetheless the images they re exposed to can leave an everlasting impression in their early year memories. Studies have brought forward the information that children as young as 8 and 9 years old are coming in contact with sexually explicit material through the internet and other forms of visual media. Researchers are just now investigating the potential damage that it can do to a young adolescent mind. On December 8, 1811, both of Poe s parents died from the dreadful disease, tuberculosis. Poe s foster mother, with whom he was close with, dies in Richmond on February 28, 1829 from a long sickness. Upon the date Aug 1, 1831, Poes older brother Henry dies of either tuberculosis or cholera at the age of 27. Poe s wife Virginia died of tuberculosis on Jan 30, 1847 (Poe Museum). Poe has been so despondent while the illness consumed the final months of Virginia s life that friends thought he was going insane. The loss of his wife extended Poes dependency on alcohol. Some of Poe s beliefs were viewed as ludicrous, but truly were coherent. Poe expresses these beliefs throughout his stories. These beliefs include, alcohol can end and destroy one s life, there s nothing to stop death, and that true happiness is not possible as long as moral evil lurks within the darkness. Edgar Allan Poe believed that alcohol could end and destroy one s life. He conveyed this belief throughout Hop Frog, and Cask of Amontillado. In Poe s story Hop Frog, a self righteous king coerced a jester to drink knowing he was especially not fond of alcohol. The three are: (a) the physical is causally closed, (b) Mary learns a new fact when she leaves her room, and (c) qualia causes behavior. With these three theses, one can accept only two of these. I will examine the three views one gets if accepts two and denies the third. I will specifically argue that qualia causes behavior, with the view Interactionist qualia dualism is the most plausible of the three views. With the three theses not all a through c can be true. If you assume any of the two, the third has to be false. In order to do so, one needs to reject one of these three all which seem plausible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Qualia, such things as sensations like tastes, smells, pains, etc. If one accepts (b) , then qualia are nonphysical. If one accepts (c), then there is something nonphysical causing something physical (behavior). We deny (a) because by accepting (c) then something nonphysical is causing behavior. Therefore, CCP is false. This view is IQD, Interactionist qualia dualism. Qualia causes behavior and the physical world causes qualia; and qualia are nonphysical. Someone might think (a) is true because our experience strongly suggests it s true. Someone might think (b) is true because Mary learns a new fact when she leaves her room and sees something red for the first time. Someone might think (c) is true because it seems as obvious that qualia affect the way we behave as whole. I find that qualia causes behavior (IQD) is the most plausible of the three views. By accepting IQD as the most plausible of the three views, it s safe to argue that qualia causes behavior and the physical world causes qualia; and qualia are nonphysical. There is a two way interaction between the physical world and qualia. Things in the physical world causes qualia and qualia causes states in the physical world, such as behavior. Lastly, qualia are nonphysical. Our mind and body interact, if I m slouching on a chair and my back then begins to hurt my only reaction would be to get up and straighten myself onto ... Buying a ticket to travel outside the country can open so many doors and can teach you a lot from the other places you visit. My whole life I have been traveling in and out of mexico and that is my favorite place to go. Growing up getting use to going to Mexico I paid little attention to what was actually going on when i would travel. Traveling truly meant getting away from reality, having freedom, and getting to know yourself better. These three things have been developing every time i would travel and will continue every single time i continue to repeat the pattern. Many new possibilities can appear just by buying a single ticket that can help you view everything differently in a matter of time. Getting the news from my parents that they had already bought the flight tickets was almost as important as the day of actually getting there. I remember my favorite part was being able to see the ticket that gave me motivation to perform my best at everything I did the last couple of days that i was still here because i knew that soon in would be able to spend time with my family. Spending time with my family has always been by far my favorite thing to do when I am in mexico because it is not a everyday thing where i can go visit my grandparents. While Biden makes a great Onion headline and uncle, his vulnerabilities make him not a great candidate for president. Biden s previous presidential campaigns have been terribly executed. In 1988, Biden plagiarized speeches from a British politician, destroying any chance of a successful campaign. Biden ran for president in 2008 as well, earning less than one percent of the vote in Iowa. Biden s foreign policy and national security record is slim at best. Obama s first secretary of defense wrote that he found him nearly always wrong on issues of foreign policy and national security. Rajput Painting Analysis Rajput Painting Throughout the modules of this course we have learned about different elements of Eastern art that give us the tools to try and understand the complexity that is Indian painting. Indian painting has dated back many centuries, starting with paintings on pottery coming from the bronze age found in Baluchistan 3 (17). Since this time until the 17th century (which is when the piece of art I chose), Indian painting has progressed and developed immensely. I chose art from the Rajput era of painting, coming from Rajasthan India. Even in the painting I chose for this assignment, you can see the effects the culture from that time had on the Rajput style of art, in comparison with other periods of Indian painting. Although there is little information on Rajput painting, the impact this period had on Indian painting and its development after this period is immense. Rajasthan India also known as Abode of Princes which contained many distinctive geographical regions that held different Rajput states each enjoying a nominal independence when they could escape the attentions of their more powerful neighbors 4 (131). These different states led to the development of the different styles of Rajput art from the 17th century to the 19th century. Rajput people lived in a culture that put a lot of emphasis on honour and bravery, their society also expected these traits not only of men but of women as well 4 (131). What Is The Reflection Of African American Literature Ever since I took Hip Hop Cinema last semester with Dr. Tani Sanchez I have been greatly interested in African American writing and African American culture in general. This course has allowed me to become a more cultured and informed person which I believe is a character trait that is vital in current day society. This piece of writing will further explain why I have found this African Americanliterature course so interesting and describe memorable things in this course have made me have strong feelings and then I will relate those interests and feelings to pieces of literature that we have read throughout the course of the semester in order to tie those interests and feelings to some examples and personal memories. I believe that the things which I saw as memorable throughout the course will stick with me long after finals week due to the fact that they are vital to being an inclusive and understanding culture in my opinion. The most memorable things that I will take away from this course are how poorly the views towards African Americans have been and still tend to be, how the Harlem Renaissance was able to play such a big part in the history of African American culture, and how African American writers were able to showcase a sense of revolution within their specific pieces of writing. The most memorable thing I took from this course was with regards to how African Americans have been viewed throughout American history in popular culture, this course has really been able to show me how poorly African Americans were viewed by people who were not part of the diverse African American culture. Over the course of the semester as we saw this theme over and over again, it was clear that I felt a sense of anger over learning about how poorly African Americans have been viewed in society and that has led me to sad about how so many people could have such a negative view on a group of people that live on the same streets in the same cities as they do. The work symbolized the shift of the arts from the church to the political forum. As art and learning thrived, morals and grace declined in the eyes of the church. The calendar was very important to Aztecs, it was an indicator of when to do a sacrifice; the Aztecs highly valued sacrifices and rituals for their gods. The Aztecs weren t some messed up people, they were organized, and they had a clean living style. The Aztecs were knowledgeable, they were skilled at many things and they had religious idols on the calendar to show how much they value their gods. Their main purpose, stated above, was to know what day to sacrifice, as they thought of the gods as highly important, and they thought if no sacrifice is made, the gods will die. The Aztecs needed to be precise at knowing when to do a sacrifice, they didn t want to make the gods upset if they didn t do their sacrifice on time. Overall calendars were highly important to Aztecs, and they used calendars in their daily lives, knowing what day to trade (for merchants), or when to pray was important. Calendars were made out of stone, they were carved and chiseled. Similar to both the birdcage and the miniature god sculpture, it took a lot of time and precision. Calendars weren t something to be done fast, it took a lot of time, the Aztecs wanted to know accurately when to celebrate festivals, do sacrifices, and when to pray. Making the calendar took a lot of time, but learning about them took time too. To become a teacher you obviously needed to go to school, but you also highly needed to know about the calendar. An intriguing form to present an individual s ideal thoughts across is the form of poetry, for it displays a deep and mysterious meaning behind the connotation of the words used. Poetry allows writers to express themselves through the act of writing with the usage of a few words. However, it is sometimes difficult for a reader to comprehend what the poem is trying to imply, but that is the beauty behind poetrywhich as a reader, one might have a different interpretations from another. In an analysis of She walks in beauty by Lord Byron and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare, they both have a unique distinction on how the words are used to project affections to their respective lover. The linguistic style of the poets diverges in their depiction the physical appearance, emotive feelings, and understanding what the lover means to them. Lord Byron and William Shakespeare did an incredible job analyzing their counterpart s physical appearance that was just mind blowing to a reader. Throughout the poem She walks in beauty by Lord Byron, he uses imagery that allowed him to compare his lover with nature. She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies, And all that s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to the tender light Which heaven gaudy day denies (Lines 1 6). Thucydides, much like Heroditus, believed that it had happened, though he does concede that Homer had changed the story in creating his poetry. Other authors who have drawn on the Trojan War include Plato, Vergil and Dante. Though the Trojan War was an event from early Greek history, the Romans too wrote about it. Vergil s unfinished Aeneid tells the story of Aeneas. Indeed, classical civilisations did not have a monopoly on the Trojan War Ulysses (Odysseus latinised) appears alongside Diomedes (another leader of the Achaeans who, amongst other deeds, went inside the famous Trojan Horse) in Dante s Inferno. Because so many authors have written about the Trojan War, there are conflicting versions of events. However, we can compare the different versions and conclude that anything that is repeated in each of the sources actually happened. At the most basic level, we can say that the Trojan War was a pan hellenic assault on the city of Troy, which after a protracted siege, the attackers were the victors. (If we do not take it for granted that the Trojan War was an attack on the Trojans, then there is very little reason for calling it the Trojan War .) The other problems with the surviving accounts of the Trojan War are the involvement of the gods. Supposedly Apollo and Poseidon helped build Troy as punishment. Throughout the Aeneid, the gods aid mortals in their own particular struggles. Obviously, if the Trojan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Burke suggests that transience in Marilynne Robinson s Housekeeping is a type of pilgrimage, and that the rigors and self denials of the transient life are necessary spiritual conditioning for the valued crossing from the experience of a world of loss and fragmentation to the perception of a world that is whole and complete (717). The world of reality in Housekeeping is one fragmented, isolated, and arbitrary as glimpses one has at night through lighted windows (Robinson 50). The thoughts and emotions that occur in connection with water are triggered by the lake, and they help Ruth choose transience over any other form of existence. When water floods Fingerbone, the boundaries are overrun, exposing the impermanence of the physical world, and the world s own natural push towards transience. Water shifts the margins, warning us that the visible world only shows us part of the whole or perhaps even a mere reflection of a false reality. After the fantastic train wreck in which Ruth s grandfather perished, the lake sealed itself over in ice, changing boundaries again, while it concealed, like a secret, the last traces of the victims with the illusion of its calm surface. The bill has been promoted by some advocates as a way to fulfill the military shortage crisis and has helped some states clarify residency status for the purpose of funding higher education and setting in state tuition levels (Forenza and Mendonca 292). Since the act remained unpassed, a more restricted variation known as DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) came into effect instead, which offered limited status for alien minors who attended high school or entered higher education. • 47. External Changes And Internal Reforms Of The Last 40 Years This essay will show that the external changes and internal reforms of the last 40 years have led to the retreat of the liberal democratic state. Perhaps, these changes and reforms have resulted in the revival of the state, but overall this has not been the case. This is due to the fragmentation and diminished accountability stemmed from the internal reform, new public management. Although the issue of Europeanisation is raised when discussing the states retreatment, I will focus on the topic of globalisation. This is because of the loss of power, sovereignty and nationality the state has suffered. The liberal democratic state has been in retreat due to its fragmentation and diminished accountability caused by the internal reform: new public management (NPM). NPM is an attempt to reform the public sector through the application of management techniques used in the private sector. In reality, NPM is a loose concept, consisting of different economic reforms. (Osborne 2009) While the adoption of NPM has had many advantages, there have been substantial unintended consequences from this implementation. This internal reform has resulted in a fragmentation of the state that has led to blurred and diminished accountability. Rhodes explains that within the UK civil service the role of officials is increasingly constrained by new management systems and political controls. The obvious outcomes of these changes are fragmentation and diminished accountability. (1994: 151) This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
